Cold Case Christianity: All of Us Ought to Agree on the Fallen Nature of Humans

While the concept of “Human Depravity” is an historic Christian doctrine, it’s also a condition I recognized as an atheist. My career as a police officer and my time as a parent settled the issue for me. If people are “basically good” shouldn’t we be able to verify this claim in the lives of infants? My toddler children needed to be taught about patience, kindness and unselfishness; these virtues were missing from their default nature. And it didn’t take long as a police officer to recognize the depth and complexity of our fallen citizenry. Most people who believe humans are “basically good” simply haven’t spent much time in the world as an experienced law enforcement first responder. So I was grateful when my ministry partner and fellow law enforcement professional, Aaron Brake, posted an article on the doctrine of Human Depravity. Aaron did an excellent job as he established two important truths:

Music Video: Glorious Day – Casting Crowns

One day when Heaven was filled with His praises
One day when sin was as black as could be
Jesus came forth to be born of a Virgin
Dwelt among men, my example is He

Word became flesh and the light shined among us
His glory revealed

Living He loved me, dying He saved me
And buried He carried my sins far away
Rising He justified freely forever
One day He’s coming, oh, glorious day, oh, glorious day

One day they led Him up Calvary’s mountain
One day they nailed Him to die on a tree
Suffering anguish, despised and rejected
Bearing our sins, my Redeemer is He

Hands that healed nations, stretched out on a tree
And took the nails for me

‘Cause living He loved me, dying He saved me
And buried He carried my sins far away
Rising He justified freely forever
One day He’s coming, oh, glorious day, oh, glorious day

One day the grave could conceal Him no longer
One day the stone rolled away from the door
Then He arose, over death He had conquered
Now He’s ascended, my Lord evermore

Death could not hold Him
The grave could not keep Him from rising again

Living He loved me, dying He saved me
And buried He carried my sins far away
Rising He justified freely forever
One day He’s coming, oh, glorious day, oh, glorious day
Glorious day

One day the trumpet will sound for His coming
One day the skies with His glories will shine
Wonderful day, my beloved one bringing
My Savior Jesus is mine

Living He loved me, dying He saved me
And buried He carried my sins far away
Rising He justified freely forever
One day He’s coming, oh, glorious day, oh, glorious day
Glorious day, oh, glorious day

10 Reasons Why The Global Economy Is About To Experience Its Own Version Of “Sharknado”

Have you ever seen a disaster movie that is so bad that it is actually good? Well, that is exactly what Syfy’s new television movie entitled “Sharknado” is. In the movie, wild weather patterns actually cause man-eating sharks to come flying out of the sky. It sounds absolutely ridiculous, and it is. You can view the trailer for the movie right here. Unfortunately, we are witnessing something just as ridiculous in the real world right now. In the United States, the mainstream media is breathlessly proclaiming that the U.S. economy is in great shape because job growth is “accelerating” (even though we actually lost 240,000 full-time jobs last month) and because the U.S. stock market set new all-time highs this week. The mainstream media seems to be absolutely oblivious to all of the financial storm clouds that are gathering on the horizon. The conditions for a “perfect storm” are rapidly developing, and by the time this is all over we may be wishing that flying sharks were all that we had to deal with. The following are 10 reasons why the global economy is about to experience its own version of “Sharknado”… (Read More….)

Todd Bentley gets 34,000 people ‘saved’ in one week without the gospel!

A Twisted Crown of Thorns ®

Todd Bentley is eccentric in his practice. He loves being the charismatic preacher he is and will draw a crowd and will definitely continue to do so. I have watched and listened to his ‘revivals’ all the way from Lakeland to South Korea and now in Uganda. Most of these trail blazing show men draw crowds because they preach a message that most of the people they attract want to hear. He promises sensations, manifestations and signs and wonders and indeed he does get to mesmerise hundreds with his showmanship. But at what cost? It is at the cost of the gospel.

This is what Todd reports in his news letter:

One time in my life, a curse was broken that I didn’t even know was on me. It doesn’t mean that there was a witch doctor or a warlock practicing magic or sorcery like we see in the movies…

Children are so Impressionable… and vulnerable!

A Twisted Crown of Thorns ®

Children believe all things. They trust everybody. They yearn to learn the difference between right and wrong. The greatest beginning point of knowledge is when you introduce the fear of God to them. For the Bible says that the fear of God is the beginning of wisdom. Sadly children of our times many times fall into the wrong hands and they cascade into a life of utter and total hopelessness. We live at a very precarious time when even most education systems and government programmes (and may I add even lukewarm churches) are allowing questionable material to be served up to toddlers as ‘acceptable’ fodder. Kids are impressionableTo those who sow wickedness and call ‘bad’ good and  good ‘bad’ I urge you to remember the words of Jesus:

“If anyone causes one of these little ones–those who believe in me–to stumble, it would be better for them to have a large millstone…

What is to be believed in order to be saved?

Reformedontheweb's Blog

Spurgeon 3I want to do my part to-night as far as my feeble voice will permit me; and I will speak a few words, first, concerning belief; secondly, concerning baptism; and, thirdly, concerning being saved. We shall get the whole text clearly in considering those three points.

I. First, CONCERNING BELIEVING. This is the main point, this is the hinge of salvation, for he that believeth in Christ is not condemned; he that believeth in him hath everlasting life.

Now, concerning believing, let me, ask, first, What is to be believed? Well, you are to believe that you have broken the law of God, and that consequently you are under condemnation; but that God, in his infinite mercy, has sent his Son Jesus Christ into the world that you might live through him. His Divine, Son, his only-begotten Son, was born of Mary, as a man of the substance of his…

Has the end game begun? Privately, senior Israeli officials now warning Iran war could come in 2013. Netanyahu preparing public.

Joel C. Rosenberg's Blog

(Netanya, Israel) — Over the past several weeks, I have been hearing from current and former senior Israeli officials and advisors at the highest possible levels, that the showdown with Iran is entering the critical “end game” phase. I’m hearing from people with direct knowledge of the plans that war could come in 2013.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is beginning to prepare the public in Israel and around the world for a “military option.” This is why he appeared on CBS’s “Face The Nation” on Sunday (see excerpt of transcript below).

The PM called the Iranian a “messianic, apocalyptic” regime bent on genocide, a reference to the Shia eschatology Khamenei holds that Iran must annihilate Israel and the U.S. to usher in the reign of the Twelfth Imam. Netanyahu also called the incoming Iranian president, Hassan Rouhani, a “a wolf in sheep’s clothing” who has bragged in the past about negotiating with the West while secretly advancing nuclear enrichment…

Jesus Christ is God

Possessing the Treasure

by Mike Ratliff

14 God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM”; and He said, “Thus you shall say to the sons of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you.'” (Exodus 3:14 NASB)

In our look at the Bible as the living Word of God and His communication to His people, we understand that it is not just a collection of writings or simply a history. No, the Holy Spirit not only indwells Christians he also indwells Sacred Scripture. When believers read and study the Word of God, The Holy Spirit works through it to accomplish spiritual, eternal work within them. God communicates with His people primarily through His Word. One of the main goals in this is His revelation of Himself to those who love Him.

Jesus Christ is the interpretive key to Sacred Scripture. Any other hermeneutic will lead people into various forms of heresy or unbelief. However, if…

New “Religion-Free” Bible version strips Christianity

We’ve told you about the Queen James homosexual-friendly Bible, The Leftist Green Bible, and the newly-released New Apostolic Reformation (Dominionism/signs and wonders) “The Passion Translation,” all of which make Eugene Peterson’s The Message mess seem nearly orthodox. How about a Bible that tells readers they don’t need to worry about all that sin and repentance stuff, because Jesus just wants you to love?

It sounds like the latest Seeker-Mergent language, but this new Bible project isn’t Christian at all. Now a new Religion Free Bible version will soon make the rounds. It’s not written by one person, but by anyone and everyone who wants to free you from your preconceived notions about what God says. There is an advisory circle of people representing various religious traditions, humanistic worldviews, and various forms of spirituality to offer feedback as it is being written.  The RFB Facebook page is proclaiming that a group of 12 volunteers has just translated the Book of James, and several other books are underway as well.

Fuller Theological Seminary Accepts LGBT Group

The nation’s first LGBT student club sanctioned by a major evangelical seminary is causing  a stir by announcing it will hold several gay rights rallies on campus this fall.

Fuller’s policy, in case you were unaware: Students can “come out” but they can’t have sex, be politically active or challenge a school policy that states homosexual sex is “inconsistent with the teachings of Scripture.”

Nick Palacios identifies himself as a gay evangelical Christian seminarian, and president of the nation’s first LGBT student club sanctioned by a major evangelical seminary. The group, called OneTable, formed last fall at Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, one of the world’s largest multi-denominational seminaries, and has attracted about three dozen students.

The False God of Condemnation – James Emery White

When I was boy, I was stopped by a convenience store employee outside of the doors of the store, and then accused of shoplifting.

“Hey, you, stop right there!”

Startled, I did.

“Show me what is in your pockets.”

Without even thinking, I turned my empty pockets inside out.

He then said, “Okay, get out of here.”

Apparently I had been walking through the store with my hands in my pockets, and left without buying anything.

I cannot begin to tell you how devastating those few seconds actually were. For years, I was paranoid whenever I went into a store, thinking I was being watched, suspected, ready to be accused at any moment.

Ever felt that way?

Maybe not when entering a store, but what about when you think about entering a church?

By now you may have seen the viral video of the Oklahoma pastor who went on a rant and began calling out people – and I do mean calling them out – in regard to his perception of sin in their life.

I do not know whether what he said about the people was true.

I only know it was spiritual malpractice.

You can watch it here.

This is precisely what so many people fear will happen when they come to a church, whether through past experience or simply perception. Sadly, as this video showed, it can happen.

Yes, we can say “it’s in love.” But if it looks like condemnation, feels like condemnation and sounds like condemnation, it’s…probably condemnation. No amount of dressing it up with other intentions redirects the blow.

You may not be surprised to learn from subsequent news reports that the man in the video who was hoping to be married has since left the church. I think it’s safe to assume the young man filming the entire affair, and undoubtedly behind the video’s release, has also left.

Jesus led with grace, not condemnation. He didn’t fail to confront the sin in people’s lives, but he did it in a way that left them following Him – not gunned down in His wake.

One of the more important pastoral words I find myself passing on, time and again, is the difference between conviction and accusation. The Holy Spirit convicts; only the evil one accuses.

One accusation outside a convenience store by a misguided employee marked a young boy for years.

Imagine how scarred people must be when they feel it comes from God’s representatives.

And how important it is to tell them that while it may come from some of God’s people,

…it doesn’t come from God.
