[So] we, too, must let Judas remain among the apostles and tolerate wicked scoundrels in the true Church. In short, it will always be the case that wherever God establishes a fine, pure church, the devil immediately builds a chapel next door. That is, as this Gospel says, where the father of the house has sown good seed, the enemy comes and sows among it his weeds as well.
Let no one take alarm at this, as I myself did long ago when I had begun to preach God’s Word purely, and yet at once Anabaptists, Sacramentarians, Antinomians, and other sectarians came forth out of our schools and churches. But there was nothing I could do about it, for I knew that the seed was true and good, but before I knew it, the devil had slipped in and cast another kind of seed among the good ones.
