A prayer for humility

Running The Race

Many of you may not know that I have not been abundantly blessed with a spirit of humilty.

I was thinking about this earlier when I ran across the following prayer.

It is my hope that someone finds this as timely and relevent to their needs as I do.

Father, give me a spirit of humility that realizes its ignorance, admits its mistakes, recognizes its needs, welcomes advice, and accepts rebukes.

Help me always to praise rather than criticize, to encourage rather than to disparage, to build rather than to destroy, and to think of people at their best rather than at their worst.

I ask this through Christ our Lord.

Amen!

If you want to dig deeper into God’s Word on the subject of humility, here are a few must read verses.

“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves.”

Equality versus Justice?

Larry Farlow

Equality vs Justice

You may have seen this picture floating around Facebook or Twitter. Every time I’ve seen it posted it receives a bevy of positive comments and “likes.” But is it an accurate representation of justice? Most attempts to boil down complex issues to a bumper sticker or a meme fall short and this is no exception. There’s too much we don’t know about the scenario. I think by answering a couple of questions, we can show this is not a good example of injustice being rectified:

Where did the boys get the boxes?

How did the box redistribution happen?

First of all, where did the boys get the boxes? This matters. Resources don’t just appear out of thin air. Did they earn them (or buy them with their earnings)? Did someone give them to them? Were they already there? If the boys worked to earn the boxes, how is it unjust for…

Some days I long for God…

A Twisted Crown of Thorns ®

IMG_4978.JPGThat’s is absolutely true and more so today. I came across a Puritan poem-prayer that articulates this longing a lot better than I could…

My dear Lord, I can but tell Thee that Thou knowest I long for nothing but Thyself, nothing but holiness, nothing but union with Thy will. Thou hast given me these desires, and thou alone canst give me the thing desired. My soul longs for communion with Thee, for mortification of indwelling corruption, especially spiritual pride.

How precious it is to have a tender sense and clear apprehension of the mystery of godliness, of true holiness! What a blessedness to be like Thee as much as it is possible for a creature to be like its creator! Lord, give me more of Thy likeness; enlarge my soul to contain fullness of holiness; engage me to live more for Thee. Help me to be less pleased with…

Debate: Is The Roman Catholic Priesthood Biblical & Ancient? James White vs Mitchell Pacwa

The Domain for Truth

James White

Here is a Youtube video of a debate between a Reformed Baptist apologist James White and a Roman Catholic priest name Mitchell Pacwa.  The topic of the debate: Is The Roman Catholic Priesthood Biblical & Ancient?

This debate took place May 29th, 2003.

Here’s the description of the debate from Youtube:

James White and Fr. Mitchell Pacwa debate the validity of the Roman Priesthood. Does the New Testament describe an office of priest in the Church today? Does the New Testament teach that there is a Christian Prieshood? Are priests to be unmarried as Rome teaches? Is it true as the Council of Trent declared that a New Testament Priesthood was transformed from the Old? Is it correct to call someone “Father?” What is the priesthood of all believers as mentioned in the New Testament? What are the Biblical offices in the Church today? These questions and many more are answered…
