Coeur d’Alene city officials to pastors: perform gay marriages or face jail, fines

WINTERY KNIGHT

From the Alliance Defending Freedom web site.

Excerpt:

Alliance Defending Freedom attorneys filed a federal lawsuit and a motion for a temporary restraining order Friday to stop officials in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, from forcing two ordained Christian ministers to perform wedding ceremonies for same-sex couples.

City officials told Donald Knapp that he and his wife Evelyn, both ordained ministers who run Hitching Post Wedding Chapel, are required to perform such ceremonies or face months in jail and/or thousands of dollars in fines. The city claims its “non-discrimination” ordinance requires the Knapps to perform same-sex wedding ceremonies now that the courts have overridden Idaho’s voter-approved constitutional amendment that affirmed marriage as the union of a man and a woman.

“The government should not force ordained ministers to act contrary to their faith under threat of jail time and criminal fines,” said ADF Senior Legal Counsel Jeremy Tedesco. “Many have denied that pastors…

John McArthur On The Lordship Salvation Controversy

Theologue

The person who brought the Lordship Salvation controversy to the fore-front of evangelical theology was John MacArthur with the publication of his book The Gospel According to Jesus in 1988.  The term ‘Lordship Salvation’ was coined by McArthur’s critics who were proponents of the ‘Free Grace’ theology (called “easy-believism” by critics).

Here is McArthur’s statement on Lordship Salvation today:

“The gospel that Jesus proclaimed was a call to discipleship, a call to follow Him in submissive obedience, not just a plea to make a decision or pray a prayer. Jesus’ message liberated people from the bondage of their sin while it confronted and condemned hypocrisy. It was an offer of eternal life and forgiveness for repentant sinners, but at the same time it was a rebuke to outwardly religious people whose lives were devoid of true righteousness. It put sinners on notice that they must turn from sin and embrace…

Politicians Don’t Represent People, They Are Purchased By Monied Interests

Zwinglius Redivivus

The only reason big business spends so much on elections is because they know that once in office, politicians will do their bidding.  It doesn’t matter who you vote for- at the end of the day, that politician is already bought and paid for and he or she will not represent the interests of the people, just the interests of donors.

This problem isn’t a Democratic or Republican problem, it is a problem with the American political culture.  Big business is winning, thanks to their toadies in Washington.  And there’s nothing you can do about it because there are no honest politicians.  Everyone who runs for public office has an agenda and that agenda has to do only with the acquisition of power and wealth.

Does the church do a good job of equipping Christians to talk to non-Christians?

WINTERY KNIGHT

Most churches these days are not doing a good job of helping Christians to understand how to explain and defend Christianity to non-Christians. They tend to be focused on providing comfort and entertainment, which is why so much of the focus is on compassion, singing and being “nice”. Logical arguments are out. Scientific evidence is out. Historical evidence is out. There is a terrible fear of disagreeing with anyone. Everyone is focused on being “nice” and being “liked” by non-Christians. Instead of teaching people what Christians think is true, we teach people how to recycle cans and how to color pictures of Jesus.

Church is typically a mishmash of mysticism, piety and emotivism. Pastors in particular are often opposed to connecting anything the Bible says to evidence outside the Bible, whether it be research or experiments or philosophical arguments. Even the very best preaching pastors just assert things and then…
