The Seventh Sola: Obama is Who He Is. Get It?

As the mid-terms approach tomorrow, we’ll see if my gut feeling proves true. I don’t believe the hype about a GOP landslide. The reasons are many—voter fraud, media opposition, RINO/moderate/liberal opposition to conservative GOP/Tea Party candidates even to the point of quietly helping the Democrats—dubious polling results, GOP ineptitude on messaging, infighting, etc. I’m just not buying the “wave.” I hope I am wrong.

The one thing I find beyond frustrating is the refusal of many Republicans/conservatives to peg Obama for exactly what he is. Barack Obama is by far the most ideological president we have had in the modern era. Most presidents are forced to compromise to get things done. Not Obama. He sees EVERYTHING through the prism of his ideology, and he is every bit as zealous on his ideology as a Cold-War era communist apparatchik or party leader. His ideology prevents him from compromise, no matter how much he blames the other party for intransigence and refusal to broker. The GOP has tried to compromise with Obama, only to be met with a brick wall. Again, no matter what he SAYS in public, what he actually DOES is the hallmark.

Obama is a socialist/Marxist who is trying to fundamentally change America. He won’t admit to socialism or Marxism, but the “fundamental change” is direct out of his own mouth. Anyone with open eyes can research his background, his mentors, his own statements, etc. to see what the president ultimately believes. And unlike other presidents who have preceded him, Obama really DOES NOT CARE what the electorate thinks. He will do what he wants, and to Hades with everyone else.

Pyromaniacs: “Problem of evil” syllogism, reworked

by Dan Phillips

I’m sure you’re all familiar with some form of this:

  1. If God is all-powerful, He can prevent evil.
  2. If God is good, He would want to prevent evil.
  3. Evil exists.
  4. Therefore, there is no God. (Or: God is either not all-powerful, or He is not good.)

But it’s a loaded syllogism — well, both loaded and unloaded, if you follow my meaning. It snips a couple of Biblical truths, but holds them in isolation from everything else the Bible teaches.

A more honest version would be:

  1. If God can do anything He wishes, He could prevent evil if He wished.
  2. If God is good… I can’t think of a reason why he would not prevent evil.
  3. Evil exists.
  4. Therefore… um, I don’t know why God might choose to permit evil.
That’s a lot more truthful, and it leaves the problem where it belongs: not on God, but on the arguer. Here’s another:

  1. If God can do anything He wishes, He could prevent evil.
  2. If God is good, He would want to prevent evil.
  3. But I don’t believe in God anyway, so I can’t have an opinion on what “evil” is or whether it exists.
  4. Therefore, what’s for dinner?

Or this:

  1. If God can do anything He wishes, He could prevent evil if He wished.
  2. If God is good, He would want to prevent evil.
  3. I have the vague feeling that the Bible says more about God than that He’s almighty and good, but I just really haven’t cared enough to study it out for myself.
  4. Therefore… well, nothing about the God of the Bible. But the God I made up might have issues.

Here’s the best of the lot:

  1. If God can do anything He wishes, He could prevent evil if He wished.
  2. If God is good, He will not allow evil to go unpunished or reign forever.
  3. Evil exists, will be punished, and it both has been and will be dealt with permanently.
  4. Therefore, repent and believe in the Lord Jesus, or be part of that evil that will be judged and dealt with.

(I give more on the subject, here. You must admit: it’s nothing if not red.)

Five reasons why Democrats win elections

It’s election day today, so make sure you vote Republican.

Today, I wanted to highlight a few stories that show how it is that Democrats are able to win elections despite the fact that they are immoral on social issues, incompetent on fiscal issues, and irresponsible on foreign policy.

Voter fraud

Democrats get a big boost from voter fraud. Let me explain how easy this is to do in America.

Filmmaker James O’Keefe has yet again demonstrated just how vulnerable our election system is to fraud.

A Pew Center on the States study in 2012 found that one out of eight voter registrations is inaccurate, out-of-date, or a duplicate. Some 2.8 million people are registered in two or more states, and 1.8 million registered voters are dead.

So O’Keefe decided to take some of the 700,000 “inactive” voters the Voting Integrity Project says are on the rolls in North…

The Myth of the ‘Mission Trip’

5 Pt. Salt

“Youth groups and their leaders love ‘mission trips’ but it’s time for a bit of honesty among the practitioners of such enterprises.  First, they exhibit a kind of colonialism and an attitude of superiority.  That is, the mission trippers leave their affluent homes (mission trips are expensive) and they travel to some impoverished area and spend a few days or a week or a couple of weeks to help out the ‘less fortunate’ because they can’t manage without outside help.  This is really nothing besides imperialism- a holdover from the 19th century era of American expansionism and ‘manifest destiny’.

Second, ‘mission trips’ are thinly veiled vacations for the participants.  To be sure, a few hours each day are spent in a sort of ‘community service project’ or an ‘evangelistic enterprise’ (because, again, the poor wretched natives have never heard the Gospel and they cannot get by without the help of…

How do I get our church to focus on evangelism rather than entertainment?

A Twisted Crown of Thorns ®

outreach-ideasWell, by the time you ask your self that kind of question its very likely you may be in the wrong kind of church or your church has probably missed the point and gone off with the wrong priorities. That being said, it is always a good thing to start thinking about evangelism and having a desire to see others come to a true knowledge of Christ through the gospel. The gospel rightly should be the beginning place for every evangelistic endeavor or discipleship program. In this day and age where churches have resorted to hiring ‘church growth’ gurus to bring about astronomical increase in numbers (with no love for the things of God or commitment) it’s quite encouraging to come across pastors who are keen on evangelism and biblical discipleship.

Missionary and church planter David Cloud (together with his wife Linda) have got a free ebook called Ideas for…

Twenty Ways to Answer A Fool [9]

Does Christianity have a morbid, unhealthy preoccupation with sex and produce sexual misery?

I come again to my review of Chaz Bufe, the Christ-hating anarchist and blues guitar playing atheist, and his 20 Reasons to Abandon Christianity.

He devotes two entire points to the subject of Christians and sexuality. Rather than dealing with them separately, I will combine them together with this one post.

Chaz, as with a lot of anti-theists, has an obsession with the subject of sexual ethics as it pertains to Christianity. His obsession, for example, is witnessed in the second sentence of point 9 when he writes about the numerous “thou shalt nots” relating to sex in the Bible, particular the 10th commandment which forbids coveting your neighbor’s wife. I had no idea that Chaz was a wife-swapping swinger as well.

Under point 9:

Today, judging from the pronouncements of many Christian leaders, one would…

Russell Moore Summoned to Vatican, Happily Wags Tail

Polemics Report

Later this month, Russell Moore – President of the Southern Baptist Convention’s Ethic and Religious Liberty Commission (ERLC) – will be attending a conference at the Vatican meant to bolster a defense of “traditional marriage.” As wonderful as it is that most Southern Baptists and the Bishop of Rome (and self-pronounced “Vicar of Christ on Earth”) agree on marriage, there might be another topic where they disagree so strongly they’ve anathematized one another…the Gospel. Russ, at least, might have heard of it. Apparently, it’s an issue of first importance.

If it concerns you that the SBC’s leading ethicist is partnering with a church widely considered the spirit of antichrist in order to coalesce around a cup with a clean exterior – who like a dog comes when his master whistles – you’re probably not alone. Brannon Howse and Mike Gendron will be discussing this on Tuesday’s Worldview Weekend.

Dever and Driscoll: A Foreboding Harbinger of Mars Hill’s Collapse

Polemics Report

In the last 48 hours or so, a clip from The Gospel Coalition of Mark Dever taking on Strange Fire crashers James McDonald and Mark Driscoll has been making its way around social media. And then, the clip disappeared from from The Gospel Coalition website. Regardless of TGC saying, “This Video Does Not Exist,” the clip has been uploaded to the P&P. Regardless of TGC’s well-wishing for the memory-hole, the clip very much exists.

JD has reviewed this clip and its eery premonitions on Wednesday’s program (already recorded, on account of him out hunting this week). We hope you’ll listen in to see if Mars Hill’s collapse could have been predicted in the departure of Mark Driscoll.

One wonders why TGC would Canerize the video.

I don’t think that Frank Turek will mind me stealing his entire post from Cross Examined.

He writes:

When I hear Christians saying we ought not get involved in politics but just “preach the Gospel,” I show them this satellite picture of the Korean peninsula. South Korea is full of freedom, food and productivity—it’s one of the most Christianized countries in the world. North Korea is a concentration camp.   They have no freedom, no food, and very little Christianity.

What’s the primary reason for the stark difference between these two countries? Politics. The South politically allows freedom, while the North does not.

Ironically, Christians who shun politics to supposedly advance the Gospel are actually allowing others to stop the Gospel. How so? Because politics and law affects one’s ability to preach the Gospel! If you think otherwise, visit some of the countries I have visited—Iran, Saudi Arabia and China…

What doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God. ~ Micah 6:8

November 4, 2014

You see me severely wounded, but not depressed—not unhappy. I believe it has been done according to God’s holy will, and I acquiesce entirely in it. You may think it strange; but you never saw me more perfectly contented than I am today; for I am sure that my Heavenly Father designs this affliction for my good. I am perfectly satisfied that either in this life, or in that which is to come, I shall discover that what is now regarded as a calamity is a blessing.

NEW Bethel Church’s “Apostle” Bill Johnson: A Comedy of Errors

Bill Johnson is no stranger to controversy. For one thing, he claims to be an apostle, as in the unique position held by the twelve apostles of Jesus Christ. He was given this high honor by C. Peter Wagner who holds many titles himself, including president of Global Harvest Ministries, chancellor of Wagner Leadership Institute, convening apostle of the New Apostolic Roundtable, and my personal favorite: presiding apostle of International Coalition of Apostles.

It Is What It Is…Go Vote—Lydia Goodman

http://www.newswithviews.com/Goodman/lydia103.htm I must be clairvoyant. I predicted back in June before the Republican primary run-off election in Mississippi between Thad Cochran and Chris McDaniel that the McDaniel camp would probably drag out challenges to the election results into January if he lost the election. Said half-jestingly, I never knew how prophetic my words would be. Yet here we are on Election Day and there has been no concession, no words of support, and no urging from the McDaniel camp to support the Republican nominee.

It’s been just over a year since the highly publicized and controversial Strange Fire conference.

As a Grace to You employee with a charismatic background, I watched the buildup to the conference with a considerable amount of interest. I am certainly no stranger to the grievous damage caused by reckless false prophecies in the charismatic church. But since none of that spiritual fallout ever touched me personally, my animosity for the movement did not run deep. In fact, the major gripe I had with my old mainstream Pentecostal church was the same gripe I have with the church growth and emergent movements—a failure to rightly preach the gospel.

The West once prided itself in celebrating freedom and promoting genuine diversity. But this is no longer the case. England for example may well be gone. So thorough and so consistent has the Islamisation of the once great Britain been that one is left wondering if it will soon become the first Western locale with a Muslim majority and full islamic law.

Evidence is everywhere, and it certainly does not look very good. Every day the headlines inform us that England is on the verge of becoming a Muslim nation, and those who don’t like it can just pack up and leave. The numbers alone tell us the story. Read more

Place for Truth: The Holy Spirit and the Redeemed Mind

By David Garner

“The pervasive weakness in philosophy and religion is that they tender merely human proposals. They operate in a vicious circularity, because the answers all come from us. Even the confluence of the most brilliant human minds lacks the resources to deliver definitive answers to the harassing questions of our souls. If there are answers, they must come from outside and not from within. They must come from above, not from below. They must come to us, not from us. If there are answers, they must come from an objective and all-knowing authority. In short, they must come from God. Has He spoken? Indeed He has. Before we explore the special way in which He has done so, we must comment on His universal speech. Psalm 19:1 says, “The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.” The Psalmist, looking at the scope of the universe, notes the perpetual, unrelentingly, clear communications from the Creator. God speaks in creation and His governance of the world, and He does not stutter….” Continue reading.

Religious Affections: A New Posture – The Gospel and a New Habit

by David de Bruyn

A posture is a physical pose or position we adopt for varying situations. Running requires one posture. Balancing a basket on your head requires another. Playing the violin needs a different posture. The situation, and the desired action, determines the posture.

In fact, seeing certain things requires a posture: looking up through a telescope, examining an insect on the ground with a magnifying glass, or lining up a sextant with the horizon require different actions with the head, neck, arms, and legs, so that the eyes can see the desired object.

In our study of the Christian life, we have said that our priority is to love God ultimately by seeing and showing His beauty, as we live in his presence. Thusfar, we have considered the new nature that enables us to live in God’s presence and experience communion with him. This new nature is foundational, yet we need something functional on top of the foundation. To live in God’s presence calls for a particular posture of the heart: the life of faith. If we are to live in God’s presence and commune with him so as to love him, it requires a certain stance towards God, a way of thinking and acting and feeling.

The absence of this posture explains failure in the Christian life, for every failure is ultimately a failure of faith. Unbelief is the mother of all sins, and the root of all spiritual malfunction. The cycle of communing with God is maintained to the degree that we adopt the posture of faith. The same cycle is interrupted when our doubt and unbelief triumphs over faith.

Though God works with us responsively, it is safe to say from our study of the position of the Christian life that a loss of communion with God is not so much a matter of God’s withdrawing from us, as it is the spiritual dullness and hardheartedness that our unbelief brings into the relationship. To train the eye of faith is to place ourselves in the prime viewing spot to see the glory of God manifested to us in a relationship of communion.

The Nano-Principle of the Christian Life

The Gospel is at the heart of loving God. The completed work of Christ, and its ongoing work of mortification and vivification are the elemental principles of loving God. Killing the old self-loving life and strengthening the new, Christ-loving life: this is how loving God works at the most basic level. The bird’s-eye view of the Christian faith is loving God, the worm’s-eye view is death and resurrection.

We could think of the posture of the Christian life as two legs needed for balance, or the two balancing halves of communing with God. Read more

Place for Truth: Omnipotence

By Jonathan Master

“Omnipotent is one of the many words which appear in the older versions of the English Bible, but not in the more modern ones. It is also part of the vocabulary of our hymns, but is rarely employed in more modern choruses and Christian songs. It is a word which can only be applied to God Himself. When used of God, it refers to the fact that He is all-powerful, that He is unconstrained by any outside force. He can do anything consistent with His character. Although you will not find omnipotence in your Bible concordance, you will find words which express nearly the same content. Almighty is one such word. And of course, in addition to the word almighty, there are many words and many verses which speak of God’s power – unconstrained….” Continue reading.

It’s Election Day in America. What are two things every Christian should do? (excerpts from “Implosion”)

Joel C. Rosenberg's Blog

vote-cartoonIt’s Election Day in the United States. Enormous, daunting challenges face the American people when it comes to the economy, national security, defending marriage and the sanctity of human life, protecting our religious freedom, our relationship with Israel, and many other issues with moral and spiritual dimensions. Indeed, when it comes to the type of people who will govern state and federal government, the stakes could not be higher. So, what are two things every Christian should do?

Here are excepts from my 2012 book, Implosion

  1. Christians need to pray faithfully and consistently for wisdom and direction for our national leaders.

We may not always be happy with what our leaders are doing and saying, but we need to pray for them anyway. Failing to do so is disobedience to God.

  • As the apostle Paul instructed Timothy and the church he pastored in Ephesus, “First of all, then, I…
