Look for the Department of Veterans Affairs hospitals scandal to resurface when President Obama visits Phoenix later this week.

Well, that was short-lived. President Obama’s approval rating is back in the red after a brighter moment this weekend when it was net-positive for the first time since 2013. Obama’s numbers are back down to 44 percent approval and 49 percent disapproval for the three days ending Jan. 4.

Taken together, the average 10-year bond yield of the U.S., Japan and Germany has dropped below 1 percent for the first time ever, according to Steven Englander, global head of G-10 foreign-exchange strategy at Citigroup Inc. That’s not good news. The rock-bottom rates, which fall below zero when inflation is taken into account, show “that investors think we are going nowhere for a long time,” Englander wrote in a report yesterday.

Bill Clinton And The Pedophile: The Sex Scandal That Could Destroy Hillary’s Presidential Ambitions

Why did a convicted billionaire pedophile named Jeffrey Epstein that pimped out underage girls to powerful men have 21 contact phone numbers for Bill Clinton? And why did Clinton fly on “multiple occasions” to the private Caribbean island where Epstein regularly held wild sexual orgies? Let me give you a hint: it was not to discuss politics over milk and cookies. Every once in a while, we get a small peek into the twisted sexual world of the global elite. In this case, a Florida lawsuit that alleges that Britain’s Prince Andrew had sex with a 17-year-old “sex slave” provided by Epstein is making headlines all over the planet. But of potentially even greater importance is what this lawsuit is revealing about Bill Clinton. If it can be proven that Bill Clinton had sex with underage girls provided by Jeffrey Epstein, that could potentially destroy any chance that Hillary Clinton has of winning the presidency in 2016. Oil Falls Below 50 As Global Financial Markets Begin To Unravel

On Monday, the price of oil fell below $50 for the first time since April 2009, and the Dow dropped 331 points. Meanwhile, the stock market declines over in Europe were even larger on a percentage basis, and the euro sank to a fresh nine year low on concerns that the anti-austerity Syriza party will be victorious in the upcoming election in Greece. These are precisely the kinds of things that we would expect to see happen if a global financial crash was coming in 2015. Just prior to the financial crisis of 2008, the price of oil collapsed, prices for industrial commodities got crushed and the U.S. dollar soared relative to other currencies. All of those things are happening again. And yet somehow many analysts are still convinced that things will be different this time. And I agree that things will indeed be “different” this time. When this crisis fully erupts, it will make 2008 look like a Sunday picnic. (Read More….)

THE FOUNDATION

“The people can never willfully betray their own interests: But they may possibly be betrayed by the representatives of the people; and the danger will be evidently greater where the whole legislative trust is lodged in the hands of one body of men, than where the concurrence of separate and dissimilar bodies is required in every public act.” –James Madison, Federalist No. 63, 1788

Harvard Professors Angry ObamaCare Made Their Premiums Rise

Liberal academics at Harvard are as incensed as anybody else that their health care costs for 2015 have headed for the ceiling because of the “Affordable” Care Act. Harvard professor Richard Thomas said the changes were “deplorable, deeply regressive, a sign of the corporatization of the university.” But — get this — these same professors advised the Obama administration as it crafted this policy. The New York Times reports, “In Harvard’s health care enrollment guide for 2015, the university said it ‘must respond to the national trend of rising health care costs, including some driven by health care reform,’ in the form of the Affordable Care Act. The guide said that Harvard faced ‘added costs’ because of provisions in the health care law that extend coverage for children up to age 26, offer free preventive services like mammograms and colonoscopies and, starting in 2018, add a tax on high-cost insurance, known as the Cadillac tax.” National Review’s Patrick Brennan notes the Leftmedia can’t quite explain away this argument for free market health care. Maybe Harvard professors should advise the White House in a new health care policy given their new real-world experience. More…

Cap-and-Trade Stifles New Manufacturing Jobs

The envirofascist group Environmental Defense Fund says the proposed cap-and-trade program is “the most environmentally and economically sensible approach to controlling greenhouse gas emissions.” It’s a statist’s dream to strangle American energy and save polar bears and Al Gore’s reputation. But a study by the National Bureau of Economic Research finds the EPA’s cap-and-trade program in 20 eastern states implemented from 2003 to 2007 shaved the number of manufacturing jobs by 1.3%. “There are several possible causes for the manufacturing job losses caused by cap-and-trade,” The Washington Examiner writes. “Many firms were affected by higher energy costs. But large manufacturing plants that produce their own energy were directly regulated under the cap-and-trade program. ‘Direct regulation may have led existing firms to decrease employment and discouraged new firms from locating in the regulated region,’ the study speculated.” Cap-and-trade contributed to lower wages for new employees and fewer new hires — something that should give the collegiate environmentalists crusading for the cause of global warming pause, as they soon will enter the job market. Housing Market Crash Bells Are Ringing

Is another housing market crash in the works? That’s a question some are pondering as the new director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) implements some of the same policies that rocked the economy shortly after Democrats took control of Congress in 2006. The Washington Examiner writes, “Mel Watt has been the government’s manager of mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac for only a year, but his efforts to boost access to home loans over the past 12 months have the incoming Republican majorities in Congress concerned. Even as credit remains historically tight, Watt’s actions have provoked fears that he is leading the mortgage giants down the same path that led them to fail in 2008 and receive massive taxpayer bailouts.” Among the regurgitated policies? “[P]utting off a fee increase on the insurance that Fannie and Freddie provide on mortgage-backed securities, planning to back loans with down payments as low as 3 percent, and, most recently, directing money toward an affordable housing trust fund decried by conservatives as a ‘slush fund.'” Recall that the so-called fix for the housing market implosion was to centralize more control. Now that the feds have more leeway, the question is: Why are they recycling failed policies? Well, wasn’t this their plan all along — to facilitate bigger government regardless of the consequences? California Gives Illegal Immigrants Driver’s Licenses

The Department of Motor Vehicles in California has gotten even more fun. And when we mean fun, we mean the department is going to have even longer lines because the state just implemented its law allowing illegal immigrants to procure driving licenses. That’s why you go to the DMV, right? “The DMV has hired more than 1,000 workers and opened four new centers to handle the rush,” reports CBS Los Angeles. “The new law allows undocumented immigrants to apply without the fear of being deported, which has long been a concern in the community. The DMV expects nearly 1.5 million undocumented immigrants to apply over the next few years.” As Hot Air’s Jazz Shaw points out, driving is a privilege and “that privilege can be taken away for any of a number of offenses which include driving while impaired, failing to obtain proper registration, inspection and insurance documents or just running too many stop signs.” But yet those who skirt the nation’s immigration laws now have a right to drive. Gingrich: Obama a ‘Tragic Failure of Leadership’

As Barack Obama and Attorney General Eric Holder begin their ride into the sunset, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said this administration has been a “tragic failure of leadership.” Instead of bringing the country together racially, Obama’s White House has divided the nation. “I’m saying the president spends a lot of his time saying things that are divisive, automatically jumps to conclusions about things he doesn’t know,” Gingrich said. “I’m saying the attorney general clearly has given speeches that are divisive. And I’m just suggesting to you, just as a tragic lost opportunity, you would think that six years into the first African-American presidency, there would be a sense of us coming closer together. That hasn’t happened.” But what would be good for the nation isn’t good for the Left, which profits from playing one demographic against the other. More…

GOP Sets Agenda, but Infighting Threatens Delay

2013-09-25-e86f9aed.png

Today, the newly elected 114th Congress convenes, and with it, lots of hype, ambitions, agendas and political drama. Congress will be tasked with passing legislation the president will no doubt oppose, and Republicans will have to keep the infighting to a minimum if they ever hope to stop this administration’s assault on Liberty.

The GOP appears to be ready to go to work, having put forth an agenda that seeks to accomplish what the 113th Congress — derailed by then-Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid — could not. The first order of business for the House is to pass legislation expediting the Keystone XL Pipeline. The Senate is expected to follow suit, with the GOP leadership making it clear that creating jobs and increasing energy production in the United States is a must.

Next on the agenda is ObamaCare. In the GOP weekly address, Rep. Rodney Davis (R-IL) said that the House plans to rework ObamaCare’s definition of a full-time employee. The law sets the bar at 30 hours per week, but Republicans seek a return to the traditional understanding of a 40-hour workweek. Obviously, we would prefer Congress repeal the entire law, but it would be foolish to expect the president to sign legislation undoing his crowning “achievement.” And some reform is going to be necessary given the possibility of the Supreme Court striking down federal subsidies.

A third item on the Republican agenda is to rewrite the unpopular No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB). Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-TN) and Rep. John Kline (R-MN) are leading the way on pushing for legislation that seeks to reduce the federal government’s involvement with education. NCLB is what might be considered low-hanging fruit. Few people like it, and reform would demonstrate Republicans’ seriousness in governing.

With an established GOP agenda, the next hurdle should be getting a few Democrats on board and having the president sign the legislation that arrives on his desk. But before any agenda is put to motion, Republicans must settle their own infighting.

According to Fox News, at least nine conservative Republicans have declared their intent to vote against John Boehner as speaker of the House. Rep. Walter Jones (R-NC) says, “[A]s many as 18 conservatives will look to vote against Boehner.” And so the party begins.

Two representatives, Ted Yoho (R-FL) and Louie Gohmert (R-TX), announced that they will challenge Boehner for his post. They claim Boehner has not taken a hard enough stance against the president, and specifically criticized him for forcing the CRomnibus through without giving members time to read it. They say voters want a change in leadership — something no doubt true among Tea Party conservatives.

The frustration is certainly both understood and well founded. Boehner is not the best man for the job of leading the House, and he has tweaked and angered conservatives along the way.

But his opponents don’t seem to have a viable alternative, and the showy display of disunity will accomplish little except provide fodder for the Leftmedia to report on GOP dysfunction.

Ronald Reagan once offered what he called his 11th Commandment: “Republicans shall not ever speak ill of their fellow Republicans.” Scorched-earth Republican infighting is unwise. Republicans should resolve their disputes quickly and move on to combatting the bigger threat to American Liberty — the Obama agenda.

This new Congress under GOP leadership has two years to do everything within its constitutional power to stop this president’s policies that are, in Obama’s words, “fundamentally transforming” our nation. But they can’t win if they don’t band together. The GOP momentum needs to carry all the way to 2016, when Republicans have the opportunity to gain more seats and even the presidency. So rather than putting on a political sideshow, the GOP needs to get to work.

Tax Filers to Experience ‘Joys’ of ObamaCare

2014-08-04-ab603346_medium.jpg

This year, the IRS will be fully involved in policing health insurance coverage under ObamaCare, with federal tax forms requiring for the first time that taxpayers report their health insurance status to the IRS. Filers will have to state whether they had employer-paid health insurance coverage in 2014 or received subsidies to help pay for their coverage. Those who did not have coverage face fines of $325 or 2% of taxable income.

Citizens will basically be on the honor system, however, as the IRS says reduced staffing and budgets won’t allow it to check up on every tax return. The IRS operating budget has shrunk by $1 billion since 2010, and it has 13,000 fewer employees — a direct result of Republican attempts to stymie ObamaCare’s implementation. The IRS says it won’t reject tax returns that don’t address the health insurance question, but the agency plans to exercise its audit power. Some filers may be required to file additional forms to prove their health insurance coverage or request one of the 30 different exemptions that currently exist. Open enrollment ends on Feb. 15, though, so the window for filing hardship exemptions is rapidly closing.

An estimated 3.4 million people who cashed in on subsidies may learn the hard way that they received too much money to help cover their insurance, resulting in smaller-than-expected refunds or even larger tax bills. “People will file their tax returns and learn they are subject to a much larger penalty for 2015,” Stan Dorn of the Urban Institute told the Associated Press. “And they can do absolutely nothing to avoid that.”

The problem of people being nailed for back taxes due to ObamaCare is not considered to be a transitional one that will go away after a couple of years. In order to determine whether a subsidy is needed or how much it should be, people will have to be able to predict their medical requirements in advance. Coupled with continual and arbitrary rule changes and a fundamentally flawed method for calculating subsidies, this means millions of taxpayers will be subjected to an IRS drubbing every year.

Companies with 100 or more employees will also be compelled to follow the employer mandate in 2015. Human Resource departments will be churning through a bureaucratic nightmare of paperwork to prove adequate coverage for at least 70% of their employees or companies face a $2,000-per-employee fine. Employers with 50 to 100 workers will face the employer mandate in 2016. Smaller companies remain exempt from the mandate.

The employer mandate has forced companies to deliberately avoid hiring more full-time workers in order to escape the mandate. This behavior is considered to be one of the reasons for the meager jobs recovery as companies look for ways to shave costs in a draconian regulatory environment.

The GOP leadership plans to hold votes to change the ObamaCare definition of a full-time employee from 30 to 40 hours, although the move could raise deficits by $73 billion over 10 years because the government would collect fewer penalties.

Republican tweaks and a Supreme Court ruling notwithstanding, ObamaCare remains a horrible and unconstitutional law that costs our economy and our Liberty big time. Its prescription over the next few months is more pain.

TOP 5 RIGHT OPINION COLUMNS

OPINION IN BRIEF

English Poet John Dryden (1631-1700): “We find few historians who have been diligent enough in their search for truth; it is their common method to take on trust what they help distribute to the public; by which means a falsehood once received from a famed writer becomes traditional to posterity.”

Columnist Ed Feulner: “In 2014, federal spending reached $3.5 trillion, and the one-year deficit was $486 billion. These huge numbers represent ‘a small and temporary improvement in the nation’s fiscal situation,’ a recent report by the Heritage Foundation notes. But as the authors point out, that doesn’t mean we’re on the right track. Far from it. A serious effort to cut spending — not just trim a bit here and there — is needed. … To put the problem of overspending in perspective, consider what is perhaps the most striking chart in the Heritage report. It’s titled ‘What if a typical family spent money like the federal government?’ It notes that the median family income is $52,000: ‘If they spent money like the federal government, they’d spend $60,400 a year, which would mean they’d put $8,400 on the credit card each year, despite already being $308,800 in debt.’ This is unsustainable. Does the new Congress realize this? More importantly, do they care?”

Columnist Michael Barone: “How big a problem is family fragmentation? ‘Immense,’ says Mitch Pearlstein, head of the Minnesota think tank Center of the American Experiment. ‘The biggest domestic problem facing this country.’ So big he went out and interviewed 40 experts of varying ideology across the nation and relayed their answers in his book ‘Broken Bonds: What Family Fragmentation Means for America’s Future.’ That’s the good news. The bad news is that none of the experts is confident he has an answer, and neither is Pearlstein. … Some of Pearlstein’s experts call for raising taxes, and some call for lowering them. Republican Sen. Mike Lee of Utah calls for legislative remedies to reverse ‘implicit marriage penalties in our tax code and welfare programs.’ Such policy changes might be useful ‘nudges,’ to use Harvard law professor (and Obama appointee) Cass Sunstein’s term. But perhaps well-off Americans should, as Charles Murray suggests, preach what they practice. Few Americans want to stigmatize single parents. But should we be afraid to tell people there’s a better way?”

When the new, 114th Congress is sworn in on Jan. 6, 2015, Republicans will control both chambers of the legislative body for the first time since the 109th Congress (2005-2006). Yet, despite the sea change in party control, there is relatively little change in the overall religious makeup of Congress, according to a new study by the Pew Research Center. More than nine-in-ten members of the House and Senate (92%) are Christian, and about 57% are Protestant, roughly the same as in the 113th Congress (90% and 56%, respectively).1 About three-in-ten members (31%) are Catholic, the same as in the previous Congress.

The awful ideas of a Radical-in-Chief that are spawning a catastrophe.

Prognosticators from the London Times to Democratic pundit James Carville are predicting that President Obama this year will finish a deal with Iran regarding its nuclear program. With a record of foreign policy failure, Obama is eager for a seeming success, even if the agreement leaves the mullahs with the capacity to quickly build some nuclear bombs at a time of their choosing. Such an outcome would obviously be a strategic disaster, leaving this country and its regional allies vulnerable to an inveterate enemy driven by an apocalyptic ideology.

Unexplained Loud Booms Are Escalating Across The USA in January 2015 And Nobody Knows Why!

Jennifer Whitacker reports 2 loud booms again, the first was louder than the second in Indiana. Just remember that the New Madrid fault lies right under this state. Is the next big one around? Are we close to World War III?Posted: 06 Jan 2015 08:01 AM PST

sm52esQATaWmjz1eX8Al_cloudGlenn and his son Raphe were watching a movie about World War II recently, when Raphe asked his father a difficult question, “Dad, are we headed towards World War III?” Glenn took the opportunity to share with the radio audience his thoughts on the question. With the oil prices hitting a 5 ½ year low and global collapse looming in our future – the world stands in a precarious situation. According to Glenn, the only right thing to do is “to get off of foreign oil and just become energy independent.” Glenn also pointed out that the United States needs more than just energy independence, but to also stock up on gold. This morning, Glenn said, “Russia, China, they’re purchasing gold by the ton. 180 tons last year. What was it is, China or Russia? I think it was Russia. 180 tons of gold was purchased. What are we doing? I don’t even they think we have any gold.” More

North Korea has 6,000-member cyber armyPosted: 06 Jan 2015 07:47 AM PST

8d6bbed4f9f074006a0f6a706700fa29South Korea said Tuesday that rival North Korea has a 6,000-member cyber army dedicated to disrupting the South’s military and government, a dramatic increase from an earlier estimate of 3,000 such specialists. Without elaborating, Seoul’s Defense Ministry also said in a report that North Korea may also have gained the ability to strike the U.S. mainland because of its progress in missile technology demonstrated in recent long-range missile tests. It also said North Korea is advancing in efforts to miniaturize nuclear warheads to mount on such missiles. There is considerable mystery, and outside debate, about the state of North Korea’s opaque nuclear and missile programs, which it has persisted in pursuing for decades despite widespread domestic poverty and heavy international sanctions and criticism. Missouri 7th Grader Allegedly Told to Not Read Bible In SchoolPosted: 06 Jan 2015 07:29 AM PST

holy-bible-864x319Parents are accusing a teacher of violating their child’s First Amendment rights by allegedly refusing to allow him to read his Bible in school. They claim that their son, Loyal Grandstaff, a middle school student at Bueker Middle School in Marshall, Missouri, was told by his teacher that he couldn’t read the book after he brought the Bible in and silently studied it during free time. “I feel like it violated his freedom of religion but also his freedom of speech,” Justin Grandstaff, the 12 year old’s father, told WDAF-TV. Loyal said that he wasn’t being loud and that he wasn’t sharing the book with his peers at the time. “I like to read my Bible because it’s a good book,” the 7th grader told the outlet. “I was just reading, just reading because I had free time. A time to do what I wanted to, so I just broke it out and read.” More

Corn syrup ‘more toxic than table sugar’Posted: 06 Jan 2015 07:21 AM PST

660_sugar_cubesHigh-fructose corn syrup, found in sodas and many processed foods, appears to be more toxic than table sugar, a new study found. Researchers at the University of Utah looked at the effect of the two ingredients on mice. One group was fed a diet with 25 percent of the calories from the equivalent of high-fructose corn syrup. The other, in comparison, consumed sucrose, or regular sugar. Female mice on the fructose-glucose diet had death rates 1.87 times higher than those on the sucrose diet and they produced 26.4 percent fewer offspring. “This is the most robust study showing there is a difference between high-fructose corn syrup and table sugar at human-relevant doses,” said Wayne Potts, senior author of a the study which will be published in the March issue of the Journal of Nutrition. Iceland considers withdrawing EU applicationPosted: 06 Jan 2015 07:13 AM PST

iceland-withdraw-eu-application.siIceland is planning to formally withdraw its EU application, the country’s prime minister told the national radio station. Reykjavik also wants to lift capitals controls imposed on Iceland by Brussels after a financial crisis hit the country in 2008. Despite expected public protests, Iceland is going to make a second attempt to withdraw its application to become a member state of the European Union, Prime Minister Sigmundur Davið Gunnlaugsson said in an interview with Icelandic radio station Bylgjan. “Participating in EU talks isn’t really valid anymore,” PM Gunnlaugsson said as quoted by the Reykjavík Grapevine. “Both due to changes in the European Union and because it’s not in line with the policies of the ruling government to accept everything that the last government was willing to accept. Because of that, we’re back at square one,” he said on Sunday morning. More

Franklin Graham Addresses Hollywood, Sin and DeathPosted: 06 Jan 2015 07:09 AM PST

Walking-dead-screengrabSunday night NFL football has been a favorite television staple for several years, but on at least two occasions this past fall, it was definitely a second viewing choice for millions of Americans. Instead of watching footballs fly, 17 million viewers chose to watch the season premiere of The Walking Dead, a series featuring foul zombies creating endless havoc. Just a few weeks later, nearly 15 million people tuned in to yet another episode, easily surpassing that night’s matchup between the Denver Broncos and the Kansas City Chiefs. That program is just one of numerous television programs that have garnered tremendous followings by fixating on gore and death. At least half a dozen prime time shows are strangely enamored and captivated by it. These shows, when combined with hugely popular video games like Mortal Kombat, demonstrate how obsessed with death our culture has become. However, despite our society’s fascination and obsession with death, there is virtually no understanding of the eternal consequences that death brings. Amazingly, as much as the entertainment industry cranks out movies and programs that are preoccupied with death scenes and motifs, death is not a subject often candidly discussed. I think that’s because we would prefer to portray death on a purely fictional level and avoid its stark reality. More

Author claims “Jesus Never Told Us to Pray for the Sick”Posted: 06 Jan 2015 07:07 AM PST

people-praying-in-darkness-with-candles“Then He called His twelve disciples together and gave them power and authority over all demons and to cure diseases. And He sent them to preach the kingdom of God and to heal the sick … So they departed and went through the towns, preaching the gospel and healing everywhere” (Luke 9:1-2, 6). Jesus told us to heal the sick. He did not tell us to pray for the sick. Healing should not be an isolated, one-chance-in-a-100-or-1,000 type of occurrence. Healing should be everywhere. It is part of the gospel. It is what will open the masses to the gospel. It is God’s dinner bell for sinners to come and be saved. Jesus commanded us to heal the sick.  Certainly praying for the sick is scriptural (James 5: 14-15), especially for those in the church, but isn’t it interesting that in the gospels and Acts no one did so? What does this tell us? It reveals that the church has an authority she does not yet know she possesses. More

Atheists Seek to Dissuade Congress From Taking Oath on BiblePosted: 06 Jan 2015 07:04 AM PST

r-HAND-ON-BIBLE-OATH-large570An atheist organization is seeking to dissuade new members of Congress from taking their oath on the Bible when they are sworn into office today. “On January 6, Congress will take the ceremonial oath of office, during which each member will solemnly swear, or affirm, that he or she will ‘support and defend the Constitution of the United States.’ While members are not required to swear or affirm on a specific text, or any at all, many choose to swear on the Bible,” the Secular Coalition of America recently outlined to supporters. “This year, the Secular Coalition will seek to remind Congress that it was elected to support and defend the Constitution, not the Bible or any other religious text,” it continued. “We will be circulating letters on the Hill and lobbying in person to get as many members of Congress as we can to take the oath on the Constitution.” It is not known whether any of the recipients of the letter will actually heed the group’s request. MARSHA WEST’S COLUMN

Fight the spiritual forces of wickedness — and win!

Some of the news headlines this past week gave me reason for concern. …Satanism…religious liberty…beheadings…gender confusion…ecumenicalism. My tendency is to fret about such things, even though God reminds us in His Word: Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Kill With Kindness and Shoot to Kill—Andrew Wallace

http://www.newswithviews.com/Wallace/andrew138.htm

On December 26, 2014, another black teenager was shot dead by police for pointing a pistol at an Officer, and this was only a few miles from Ferguson, Mo. Even under these circumstances the residents attacked Officers with bricks and explosive devices. Clearly these thugs had no excuse, none whatsoever, to attack the Police with deadly projectiles. Why didn’t the Police shoot them dead on the spot? I guess it is another case of management restraint for political reasons, or political correctness run wild.

Anti-Christian activist: God raped Mary—Matt Barber

http://www.renewamerica.com/columns/mbarber/150105

The not-so-thinly-veiled implication here is that Christianity and, by extension, Christians, especially Christian men, not only fails to condemn rape, but that it actually encourages it. To say that this notion strains credulity is generous. In that the Bible is abundantly clear in both the Old and New Testaments that sexual behavior is only permissible and moral within the loving bonds of natural male-female marriage, it is absurd to suggest, as does Tarico, that the Holy Scriptures somehow condone rape. Let alone Christ’s central admonition that we “do unto others” as we would have them do unto us. Such rubbish betrays this woman’s visceral animus toward Christianity. …

What Makes A Good Year?—Clint Archer

http://thecripplegate.com/what-makes-a-good-year/

As every sommelier worth his saltine crackers knows: good wine comes from tortured grapes. It is a dusty secret Californian vintners accidentally unearthed that the more the grape has to struggle for survival, the higher the quality of wine that can be gleaned.    Thus, arid and gravelly mountainsides are good for nothing, horticulturally speaking, save for some masochistic grapes, notably the Bordeaux varietals. Grapes harvested after a season of longsuffering produce a vintage that insiders will dub “a good year.”

8 Responses to Friendly Fire

Friendly fire is a devastating reality of war. In the velocity of action and unrelenting conflict battlefield weapons can be redirected toward the wrong target with unforgiving consequences. The trauma and scars of physical combat are compounded for everyone involved when the source is someone wearing the same uniform.

What takes place in that regrettable scene on a battlefield is sadly a reality in the church as well. Despite the obvious differences in force of action, there is also a difference in motive. Friendly fire on a battlefield is right intentions in the wrong direction. Friendly fire in the church is wrong intentions in the wrong direction.

When Christians default to sinful assaults on other believers, the glory of Christ is diminished, the gospel message is muted and fellowship is destroyed. Hugh Hewitt recently challenged a room full of leaders to “expect to get hit from behind.” Anticipate that your most scathing, personal assaults will often come from those you partner with in ministry. Those you learn from, recruit, hire, mentor, lead, and serve. It’s not the attacks from unbelievers in the community or even from believers on the periphery of the ministry. It is assaults from those who have direct access to your heart, who for whatever reason, use their access and knowledge to launch accusations, spread gossip and advance slander. Similar to the volley of war, it is anything but friendly.

Seminary can prepare a man for ministry in many ways, but classroom lectures do not warn aspiring pastors to expect false accusations, slander and unfair criticism from fellow alumni, pastors and other ministry leaders with whom we would one day partner. The warnings about ministry perils postured attacks as coming from the outside bloggers or a faceless liberal that might have clandestinely crept into the church. Though by no means am I a seasoned veteran in ministry, the past 12 years have proven Proverbs 19:10, “When there are many words, transgression is unavoidable.”

No New Testament pastor had his character assaulted and sabotaged more than Paul. Time after time, those he sacrificially served, attacked him, accusing him of being in ministry for impure, self serving reasons. It goes with the territory of ministry. When you find yourself in those crosshairs, here is a simple strategy for responding to and recovering from personal attacks:

A Bright Light versus Evangelical Anarchism

“Millennials’ religious practices depend largely on how the actions make us and others feel, whether the activities are biblical or not” (5). Much like liberal cultural elites, they will not tolerate intolerance: “Popular liberal evangelical writers and preachers tell young evangelicals that if they accept abortion and same-sex marriage, then the media, academia, and Hollywood will finally accept Christians. Out of fear of being dubbed ‘intolerant’ or ‘uncompassionate,’ many young Christians are buying into theological falsehoods” (6).

‘Into the Woods’ Movie – A Dad’s Critical Review

The opposite of nominalism is realism. Realism holds that there are absolute, non-changing forms, substances, and ideas in the universe. There are natural, pre-established laws that are real and not man-made. Humans don’t get make up their own definitions. There is no “You decide what’s right. You decide what’s good.” Instead, human persons must discover the true definitions within the fabric of a real world. We don’t create meaning and purpose. We discover what was already real before we showed up.

As Christianity Exits Europe, ‘Criminal Muslims’ Fill Void With Rabid Violence

Sadly, however, within one generation of churches closing throughout Europe, empty pulpits have significantly contributed to the loss of fellowship and traditional continuity communities previously enjoyed. The rise of secularism, multiculturalism, and failed immigration policies created the perfect storm for crime in epic proportions to plague Europe.

Are You Ashamed of the Gospel?

The following is a speech given by Robert P. George at the National Catholic Prayer Breakfast in Washington DC during the last week of May. It is a must read for every Christian and especially those that claim to be a “Christian” and are in opposition to the teachings of the Bible, supporting abortion and same sex marriage. Many such “Christians” are on the same side of the argument as those that are intolerant of conservative Christians and all that is wholesome and good.

CultureWatch: Paying the Cost for Brainless Christianity

by Bill Muehlenberg

Where in the world did we ever get the idea that to be a good Christian means to check our brains in at the doorstep of church? How did we ever get to the place where we glory in a brainless Christianity, and refuse to use the brains God gave us to think his thoughts after him?

Why have we become the most anti-intellectual generation in church history? Why are there so many professed believers who think like pagans, talk like pagans, and therefore act like pagans? I continue to be amazed at the complete lack of a Christian mind in so much of the church today.

We are told in Scripture that “My people perish for lack of knowledge” (Hosea 4:6). Yep, they sure do, and they sure are. We see everywhere today in the West people claiming to be Christians who haven’t a clue about their own faith and their own biblical worldview.

Who Is Speaking For The Persecuted Christians In Iraq?

The brutality of ISIS’ campaign to empty Iraq of its Christian community- the cross worshipers- has driven more than 100,000 Christians from their homes. ICC went to Iraq at the height of the refugee crisis to distribute aid directly to those in need. We are also working with government officials in Washington D.C. and Iraq to ensure that Christians are receiving assistance. ICC is working with local churches in Iraq to provide displaced Christians with food, water, mattresses, pillows, tents, infant formula and basic medical supplies.

Polycarp: Destroyer of Gods

Synopsis from the website:

The Story

Have you ever wondered what happened to the early Christians after the Book of Acts? What trials did they face and overcome? POLYCARP is like a journey to the past, giving us a glimpse of that world.

A young slave girl, Anna, is rescued and adopted by Christians in the 2nd century Smyrna and befriended by their aged bishop, Polycarp. As Anna is taught by Polycarp and her new family, she struggles to reconcile her beliefs with those of the Christians. When the Roman proconsul demands that all citizens worship Caesar to show their allegiance to Rome, Polycarp and the Christians must find courage to stand for their faith against the growing threat of persecution. Anna is forced to come to grips with the truth and choose whom she is willing to live – and die – for.

What should audiences expect?

While not an epic action film, audiences should expect an authentic and heartfelt story that will inspire viewers of all ages. This character-driven period drama is inspired by the true story of Polycarp, and we’re excited to have a role in keeping an important historical character from being forgotten!

Our number one goal is to make this a God-honoring movie. We have sought to make decisions prayerfully, and with good counsel. We believe the story will communicate an important message about being willing to sacrifice all for the sake of Christ. Our prayer is that the Lord would use POLYCARP to touch many lives around the world!

Mistaking Gratification for God

Polemics Report

As it is written:

“There is no one righteous, not even one;
     there is no one who understands;
there is no one who seeks God.
 All have turned away,
    they have together become worthless;
there is no one who does good,
    not even one.”

Romans 3:10-12

There is a fundamental error in the mainstream evangelical Church. It’s the assumption and underlying presupposition that unbelievers outside the Church are desperately seeking for God– that they’ve a God-shaped hole they’re desperately trying to fill.

Christian will look at their neighbors, coworkers and acquaintances, especially those with kind and gracious temperments, and say “Well what about this guy I know? He’s a seeking after God. He’s really searching.”

But that’s not true, and that’s not what’s actually happening.

Instead what they’re really seeing is a mass of humanity searching for peace of mind happiness. They’re seeing people…

Sola Scriptura: The Complete Revelation (Falsified Ministries Article)

Sola Scriptura: The Complete Revelation

by Vince and Lori Williams

with special guest contributor

Joseph McDonald

of Scripture Truth Radio

http://www.ScriptureTruthRadio.com

“All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.”     2 Tim 3:16-17

Forever, O Lord, your word is firmly fixed in the heavens. If your law had not been my delight, I would have perished in my affliction. I will never forget your precepts, for by them you have given me life.

Psalm 119:89, 92-93

Sola Scriptura. This Latin term meaning “Scripture Alone” was one of the main rallying cries – a clarion call – of the Protestant Reformation five centuries ago. For hundreds of years the false religion of Roman Catholicism had made its traditions superior to the Bible. Martin Luther, John Calvin, Jan Hus, John Wycliffe, and William Tyndale are just a few of the many men who fought for Scripture alone as being the final authority for the faith and practice of the Christian. The Bible, and the Bible alone, is the complete, authoritative, true, infallible, immutable, and inerrant Word of God.

Martin Luther nailed his famous 95 Theses (correctly addressing 95 heresies of the Roman Catholic system) on the door of his own Catholic parish, All Saints’ Church, in Wittenburg, Germany in the year 1517, even before he converted to Christianity. The Holy Spirit began drawing Martin to Himself first by opening his natural mind to how the Catholic system was lying to poor German peasants through the sale of indulgences to remit their sins, among other lies. Thus, Martin began his own search through the Bible for himself to see if these Catholic teachings were based on Biblical truth (Acts 17:11).  The result was The 95 Theses, and the beginning of the Protestant Reformation. The book of Romans, specifically Romans 3, clearly spells out the truth, contrary to Catholic teaching, that salvation is a work wholly of God, granted onlyby God (not by priests or popes), onlythrough faith in the person and work of Jesus Christ.

Of course, this challenged the authority of the pope, since the pope was (and is) the self-appointed head of the Roman Catholic “Church”. In fact, all popes, even to this day, also claim authority over the very Word of God (some even claiming to be God).   So taking offense to these accusations, the pope and Roman Emperor literally threatened Martin with the death penalty if he would not retract his accusations.

Martin’s response? A direct refusal to divert from the written Word of God. His last words before the court Council were –

Unless I am convinced by the testimony of the Scriptures or by clear reason (for I do not trust either in the pope or in councils alone, since it is well known that they have often erred and contradicted themselves), I am bound by the Scriptures I have quoted and my conscience is captive to the Word of God. I cannot and will not recant anything, since it is neither safe nor right to go against conscience. May God help me. Amen.”

So why all the talk about Luther’s bold stance against the lies of the Catholic system?

Simply to point out the fact that this occasion in church history was one of huge significance. Not only for the doctrine of justification by faith, through grace alone, but also for the doctrine of Sola Scriptura.  Luther risked his life to point out, in part, that the Scriptures alone are the only source for absolute truth.

Nothing needs to be added, nothing needs to be taken away, and nothing needs to be changed.

We want to make this next point crystal clear: not a book we read, not a song we hear, not a preacher/teacher we listen to, not a movie we watch, or anything else that we hear, read, or see – even if there is a Christian labelnot even if there are Bible verses used – should be believed or taken seriously unless it is proved true by Scripture.

And Scripture alone.

Joseph McDonald, host of Scripture Truth Radio, and an evangelist, wrote the following truth below in an article regarding Scripture as our final authority. As you will read, one of his points is that the authority of Scripture alone is simply logical:

“A simple word study of the Bible will reveal several phrases used by Jesus Christ and His disciples to point to or remind others about the authority of God’s Word: “Have ye not read,” “Have ye never read,” “Did ye never read in the scriptures,” or, as in the title of this article, “What saith the scripture?” These comments or questions were used to correct and overrule the opinions and traditions of men, and Jesus often publicly declared that what men were saying about God or in the name of God did not agree with what was written in God’s Word.   For example, in Matthew 15:6 and Mark 7:13, the Bible says that Jesus plainly told the scribes and Pharisees they had “made the commandment of God of none effect by your tradition.” Also, when people would ask Jesus about His opinions (doing so while hoping to trap Him with His words), Jesus would point them back to the words of scripture, as He did in Matthew 19 and Mark 10 when the Pharisees wanted to argue over the issues of divorce and marriage.

If Jesus Christ would not make an argument on the basis of His opinions, why are we so prone to do so almost anytime we discuss anything with anyone? Why do we have so many conversations where people are saying something like “I just don’t feel like that’s right?” When asked why “that’s not right,” these same people often say something like, “Well, I just feel like it’s wrong.” When asked why it’s wrong, these people will say (again!) that they “just don’t feel like it’s right.” What’s more important to people today: what we think, how we feel, or what is written in God’s Word? In Romans 4, the Apostle Paul quoted a Bible verse (from Genesis 15:6) about Abraham after he asked the question, “For what saith the scripture?”   While he was proclaiming the doctrine of justification by faith, Paul quoted scripture and discussed it at length to show that men cannot be justified before God by doing good works, performing religious rituals, or keeping the Moral Law. In fact, when Paul described the gospel that he had received and preached to the Corinthian church, he defined it as “how that Christ died for sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures” (1 Corinthians 15:3-4). Why do we believe the gospel?

Certainly we should believe that it is “the power of God unto salvation” (Romans 1:16), but why do we believe this? Were we there as eyewitnesses of the birth, death, and resurrection of Christ? Can we somehow prove that His virgin birth, His miracles, and His resurrection from the dead were natural, normal events? Why do we believe that Jesus Christ is the only “mediator between God and men” as it is written in 1 Timothy 2:5? Wait a minute…those quotations from Romans and 1 Timothy, those came from the Bible, right? Isn’t that the reason why we believe the gospel – because that’s what is written in God’s Word?

How can we trust God’s Word for salvation – for eternity – and even think that we can’t trust it as written in every other area of life? Are we walking in the counsel of the ungodly (Psalm 1) or rejecting it? Are we being conformed to this world (Romans 12:2) or are we being transformed by God’s Word? Have we been taken captive by the philosophies and traditions of men (Colossians 2:8) or are we walking “worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God” (Colossians 1:10) as faithful servants of Jesus Christ? Can we say with the Psalmist (119:128), “I esteem all thy precepts concerning all things to be right; and I hate every false way?”

Brethren, we have been told that God’s thoughts and ways are not like ours (Psalm 50:21; Isaiah 55:8). In fact, the Bible says that God’s thoughts and ways are higher than ours (Isaiah 55:9). This is why we should trust in the Lord with all our hearts instead of leaning to our own understanding (Proverbs 3:5). Do we truly believe that the Bible is the Word of God? Do we truly believe that it is “profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works” as it is written in 2 Timothy 3:16-17? If we truly believe in the inspiration and inerrancy and sufficiency of Scripture, we should seek to build all of our thinking in every area of our lives on God’s Word, to reject the humanistic philosophies of this world, and to expose false teaching and false teachers (Romans 16:17; Ephesians 5:11) by comparing what they are teaching about God to what God has written in His Word.” (1)

There are far too many things being taught as truth in the professing church today.

Some examples include eastern Hindu mysticism and “Christian” yoga, which have gained enormous popularity in evangelicalism, much through the acceptance of ancient Roman Catholic practices (2). Following closely behind are those claiming to have traveled to Heaven and back, such as Don Piper, Jesse Duplantis, five year old Colton Burpo (whose father Todd wrote their book), and others (3). Even when the Apostle Paul travelled to the third Heaven, he wasn’t allowed to even speak of the things he saw (2 Corinthians 12:2–4). The New Apostolic Reformation (NAR)(4) and the International House of Prayer (IHOP)(5) have captured the attention of masses of young people, making them believe that uncontrollable shaking, laughter, and convulsions are a sign of being filled with the Holy Spirit.

We could list many other things as well.

None of it is from God. It is deceptive at best, demonic at worst.

There is also Sarah Young, author of the best-selling book Jesus Calling, who claims to have heard, and still regularly hear, God speak audibly.

How To Keep Collegians from Losing Their Faith, Part 3

Apologetics for the Church

[Adapted from J. Budziszewski, “Off to College: Can We Keep Them?,” from Is Your Church Ready: Motivating Leaders to Live an Apologetic Life, edited by Ravi Zacharias and Norman Geisler (Zondervan, 2003).]

What They Need to Hear about the Relation between Faith and Knowledge

Losing_faithIf secular college teachers mention faith at all, they treat it as the opposite of knowledge; they think it means believing things without having any reasons. From this point of view it seems that faith hinders the search for truth; it gets in the way of reasoning. Too many of our college students assume this to be true.

People who say they rely not on faith but on reasoning alone haven’t carefully considered what reasoning is. Reasoning itself depends on faith. How could this be? Easy. Suppose you tried to prove, not by faith but by reason alone, that reason works. You couldn’t do it. The…

How to prepare your kids for the pressure to be “cool”

WINTERY KNIGHT

This is a post from Pastor Matt Rawlings’ blog.

Excerpt:

[…]When any eighteen year old walks on to a secular university (or even many so-called “Christian” ones) they immediately feel pressure.  When a “cool professor” emerges trashing everything the eighteen year old has been taught by his or her parents to hold dear, the pressure intensifies.  If the eighteen year old dares to speak up, the professor will often ridicule the poor kid like a seasoned stand-up comic dealing with a heckler.  The other eighteen year old kids raised in Christian homes will see (or hear about it) and will feel even more pressure to conform.

Here is his recommendation:

We need to continue to train our kids in apologetics but we also need to prepare them spiritually for the battle they will face on college campuses.  They need to know how to engage the spiritual disciplines of prayer…

Rage Against the Machine

hipandthigh

rageMy wife and I are true, cultural subversives. Counter-culture to the core.

We homeschool our children.

I remember one time standing around with our neighbors outside on a Saturday afternoon when we were young parents still living in this condo complex. One of the other young mothers asks my wife about which school we were going to send our oldest son. My wife replies, “We’re going to homeschool him.”

Silence and blank stares.

Like looking into the eye of a chicken.

After about 8 seconds, one guy pipes up, “What’ya gonna do for their social skills?”

I answered, “Nothin.” The looks of dismay were precious.

Now just so I am clear:

Neither my wife, nor I , have anything specifically against public education. (Though our disdain for the creeping progressive leftism infecting public schools grows on a yearly basis). We were both publicly educated, and I actually graduated high school…

Who is judged at the Great White Throne?

Possessing the Treasure

by Mike Ratliff

9 “I kept looking Until thrones were set up, And the Ancient of Days took His seat; His vesture was like white snow And the hair of His head like pure wool. His throne was ablaze with flames, Its wheels were a burning fire. 10 “A river of fire was flowing And coming out from before Him; Thousands upon thousands were attending Him, And myriads upon myriads were standing before Him; The court sat, And the books were opened. (Daniel 7:9-10 NASB)

Before we look at Revelation 20:11-15, take a moment to reflect on the carnage being wrought upon the visible church in our time by the very men who, by their own positions, should be shepherding the sheep. Instead, they are actually doing the very things to bring about the famine of hearing the Word of God and, hence, spiritual darkness seems to be all around us right in the midst of the “Church.” Mysticism in the guise of…

FALSE PROPHETS, FALSE TEACHERS, AND RECYCLED HERESIES

Samuel at Gilgal

Samuel A CainBut false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing upon themselves swift destruction. (2 Peter 2:1 ESV)

Even in this modern age, we live with an abundant supply of false prophets, false teachers, and recycled heresies. Many in the church believe that God’s Holy Word may be manipulated to appeal to a new generation of people. We have preachers on television who distort the Gospel by appealing to men’s pride and wish for the pleasures of materialism. Truth is abandoned in order to enlarge membership rolls.

R. C. Sproul wrote these lines to discuss heresy in our day:

It seems that the only real and intolerable heresy today is the despicable act of calling someone a heretic. If the one accused is guilty of heresy, he or she…
