After a violent Islamist took hostages at a Kosher market in France, European police traced the man’s connections across Europe, arresting another man who wanted to buy a car from the jihadi’s wife, and apprehending one more in Germany on suspicion that he had returned from Syria after fighting with ISIL. The investigation came to a head in the Belgium town of Verviers Friday, as Belgium police closed in on a group of jihadis about to launch a terrorist attack in that country. Belgian prosecutor Thierry Werts told reporters after the raid, “This operational cell of about 10 people, some of whom had returned from Syria, was on the point of launching significant terrorist attacks in Belgium. During the search, certain suspects immediately opened fire at special forces of the police with automatic weapons. They opened fire for several minutes. Two suspects were killed and a third was arrested.” CNN now reports there may be 20 such “sleeper cells” across Europe, plotting eminent attacks. Because many of these jihadis are fighters who returned to their home countries after fighting for ISIL in the Middle East. In other words, the fear that ISIL would fragment and take their terror to the West is realized. More…
Pope Francis is no stranger to making waves with what he says, and his pronouncement regarding Islam, the jihadi attack on Charlie Hebdo and free speech is no exception. “One cannot provoke, one cannot insult other people’s faith, one cannot make fun of faith,” the pope declared. “There is a limit. Every religion has its dignity.” We take issue with a couple of things here. Let’s start with “cannot” instead of “shouldn’t.” Certainly, people should be respectful in dialogue and debate, but free speech is a universal right worth defending — even vulgar, unintelligent and pointless speech such as that produced by Charlie Hebdo. More to the point, not all religions have dignity. Any religion that kidnaps girls to deploy them as suicide bombers, that beheads innocent victims, that slaughters playwrights and cartoonists for expressing their beliefs, or that flies airliners into skyscrapers has no dignity.
Duke University prides itself in tolerance. This is probably why the university intolerantly canceled a talk on motherhood in 2010 because the university learned the speakers were pro-life. And then there was the time in 2013 when the open-minded academy kicked Chick-fil-A off campus because three people emailed the administration to complain about the restaurant after its CEO declared his support of traditional marriage. On the other hand, the spirit of inclusiveness compelled the university to announce it would broadcast the Muslim 1 p.m. call to prayer every Friday starting Jan. 16. But after the likes of Franklin Graham asked alumni to pull support from the school, the school backed down and announced that Muslim students will only gather in the quad before using the chapel for Friday prayer, sans an amplified call to prayer. Duke Vice President of Government Affairs Michael Schoenfeld told the Associated Press, “Duke remains committed to fostering an inclusive, tolerant and welcoming campus for all of its students. However, it was clear that what was conceived as an effort to unify was not having the intended effect.” The problem for Duke is that they believe some faiths deserve more inclusivity and tolerance than others. Foreign policy guru Leslie Gelb is no conservative — he’s the former assistant secretary of state for Jimmy Carter. Early on, Gelb championed Barack Obama’s administration and the change it brought from the George W. Bush years. But now, the hope has faded. Late to the party, Gelb writes, “The failure of Obama or Biden to show up in Paris made clear that most of the president’s team can’t be trusted to conduct U.S national security policy and must be replaced — at once. Here’s why America’s failure to be represented at the Paris unity march was so profoundly disturbing. It wasn’t just because President Obama’s or Vice President Biden’s absence was a horrendous gaffe. More than this, it demonstrated beyond argument that the Obama team lacks the basic instincts and judgment necessary to conduct U.S. national security policy in the next two years. It’s simply too dangerous to let Mr. Obama continue as is — with his current team and his way of making decisions. America, its allies, and friends could be heading into one of the most dangerous periods since the height of the Cold War. Mr. Obama will have to excuse most of his inner core, especially in the White House.” But even that won’t be enough if Obama remains his old, stubborn self. Gelb adds, “In the end, making the national security system work comes down to one factor, one man — Barack Obama.” Indeed it does, and that’s why we’re in bad shape until at least 2017. Then again, John Kerry took James Taylor to France to sing “You’ve got a friend,” so that should fix it.
Which of these does a better job of dropping a gunman: bullets or beans? Granted, it’s a stupid question, but since when did anti-gun lefties make sense? According to one Alabama school, beans — or any other canned food item — make an excellent self-defense weapon. “As a result of school shootings throughout the United States and discussing with law enforcement on the best procedure to follow to keep our students safe, we are enhancing our procedure for intruders,” explained administrators of W.F. Burns Middle School in a letter to parents. “The procedure will be the same as we have done in the past with the addition of arming our students with a canned food item.” ‘Cause nothing scares a would-be shooter like a flying can of Green Giant green beans. The officials added, “We realize at first this may seem odd” — you don’t say? — “however, it is a practice that would catch an intruder off-guard.” Here’s a better idea: Arm teachers who can quickly and effectively alleviate the threat. Liberals like to talk about “common sense” reforms; that is, unless it involves putting guns in the hands of good guys. More…
The Democrats’ economic platform continues to take shape as this week they take up the cause of paid family and medical leave. It’s all fine sentiment, though someone has to ask: Who pays for it? That’s why it’s savvy politics.
Barack Obama signed a memorandum Thursday guaranteeing six weeks of paid sick leave for federal workers to take care of a new child or an ill family member, even if workers have not accrued that much time off. He went on to claim that workers in the private sector should be afforded the same opportunity.
White House Senior Adviser Valerie Jarrett also pushed for an expansion of paid leave for workers. “The fact is this is not a partisan issue,” she said. “Adopting polices that are good for working families is both good for business and good for workers.”
In a couple of well-crafted sentences, Jarrett took a policy that used to be decided by private sector employers, elevated to it a federal government issue, and arbitrarily decided this is good for business. It’s not, but more on that later. This is a classic leftist maneuver to reframe the economic discussion in a manner that is beneficial to Democrats. By labeling paid sick leave as a “right” rather than a benefit, they can more easily label anyone who opposes their proposal as an ogre who doesn’t care about families.
As always, Democrats are looking to position themselves as champions of the middle class, particularly ahead of the 2016 election. They have the class warfare playbook firmly in hand, and they’re going to run it step by step. Obama’s offer of “free” community college and congressional Democrats’ latest income redistribution proposal were just the opening screen pass.
The paid leave proposal has been circulating for months, with Labor Secretary Tom Perez rarely missing an opportunity to mention it. The AFL-CIO is also a big proponent. Both repeatedly use a statistic pulled from an International Labor Organization survey that the U.S. is the only developed country in the world that does not mandate paid maternity leave. Jarrett also noted that 43 million private sector workers in the U.S. do not have any form of paid sick leave.
To read these factoids alone, one would be lead to believe that the U.S. is peppered from coast to coast with sweatshops reminiscent of a Charles Dickens novel. But Perez and Jarrett make no mention of just how many of those workers are part-timers or day laborers who rarely receive such benefits. They also seem to forget that virtually every large employer has these policies in place, and many small businesses prefer to handle long-term absences on a case-by-case basis. Of course, the Obama administration would prefer that freedom came to an end. After all, the federal government knows best.
The push for mandatory paid sick and maternity leave has begun in Congress, too. Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) and Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) introduced the Family and Medical Insurance Leave (FAMILY) Act to create a national paid family and medical leave insurance program. The administration also proposes $2 billion in the new budget to help states develop similar programs. Currently only California, New Jersey and Rhode Island offer statewide paid sick leave.
Republicans will be cast as the villains in this battle because they will be the only people to raise the question of how we’re going to pay for it. Like free college, free health care and free wage bonuses, someone somewhere is ultimately going to shoulder the burden for the cost. Ironically, it will likely be the very same middle-class taxpayers the paid leave plan is supposed to benefit.
The National Federation of Independent Businesses panned the proposal. “Our members are opposed to it because of real costs,” said spokesman Jack Mozloom. “And in a philosophical sense, they’re opposed to it because they don’t want the government telling them what to do.” He also noted what should be obvious: When a worker is out due to illness, “The work still has to get done.” In other words, there is a real productivity cost that must be considered.
Democrats have pushed a number of statistics and polls claiming the public is behind them on this issue. With the wind at their backs, they believe they have a political winner. A lot of people supported the latest minimum wage hike too, according to their figures, and look what happened. The federal proposal fizzled and Democrats were crushed at the polls.
The minimum wage is a great example of skewed Democrat economic thinking. James Pethokoukis of the American Enterprise Institute cited a VoxEU study of the impact of the minimum wage in recent years that Democrats would prefer you didn’t see. According to the study, while the minimum wage increased 30% in the late 2000s, it reduced adult employment by 0.7%, amounting to 1.4 million workers, nearly half of whom are age 15-24. The minimum wage raises also reduced average monthly incomes for low-skilled workers by $100 over the first year and $50 over subsequent years. As Republicans stated repeatedly, the effect of a top-down mandate on wages was exactly the opposite as intended.
If you need further proof of the damage Democrat policies have done to American business, you can look at a recent Gallup study pointing out that “business deaths now outnumber business births” for the first time in 35 years. “Until 2008, startups outpaced business failures by about 100,000 per year,” writes Gallup CEO Jim Clifton. “But in the past six years, that number suddenly turned upside down.”
So, while Democrats proudly proclaim a whole list of new “rights” for workers that becomes ever more expensive, the number of businesses that can actually employ those workers continues to shrink. This cannot be a coincidence.
Operation Inherent Resolve launched last fall with the objective of controlling ISIL in both Syria and Iraq through the limited use of force — airstrikes on their strongholds while using coalition forces where possible. There would, however, be no American “boots on the ground,” because Barack Obama stubbornly and politically refused to repeat what he sees as George W. Bush’s greatest error.
Inherent Resolve seems to be having some degree of success in Iraq, where ISIL has been fought to a virtual stalemate after a period last year where it appeared ISIL would be able to march into Baghdad with little resistance. Instead, Kurdish forces have maintained control in the northeastern section of the country while Iraqi troops control much of the rest. The only part of Iraq that seems to be safely in ISIL’s hands is the western frontier bordering Syria.
Since the focus of Inherent Resolve is mostly on Iraq, though, the situation in Syria is deteriorating. While we’ve kept the wolves at bay in the strategic town of Kobani, ISIL has gained ground in Syria to such a degree that around one-third of the nation is considered ISIL territory.
With more and more of the Syrian population under ISIL control, the prospect of recruitment for a push into the major Syrian population centers increases. Tipping the balance toward ISIL also spells trouble for Russian-supported strongman Bashar al-Assad, and could perhaps set off a wider proxy war.
The ISIL expansion is blamed on a lack of “strategic coordination between coalition strikes and moderate forces inside Syria,” said Coalition for a Democratic Syria adviser Mouaz Moustafa, “meaning that the Free Syrian Army and aligned groups cannot use the strikes to retake territory.” Having a safe haven in neighboring Syria also gives ISIL an advantage in Iraq, much as the Taliban was able to use Pakistan as a haven during the American incursion in Afghanistan.
Speaking of Afghanistan, as U.S. forces depart that nation, the influence of ISIL is beginning to show there as well. A renegade general once held at Guantanamo and released in 2007 has surfaced as a leader supporting the nascent ISIL effort in that nation. Mullah Abdul Rauf is reportedly recruiting from the ranks of the Taliban, with skirmishes breaking out between the two sides in Helmand province, which is controlled by the Taliban in their fight against the current Afghan government.
One has to question whether the tactics of Inherent Resolve are succeeding in the face of ISIL’s increasing influence, particularly as their terror spreads to Europe. While al-Qaida in Yemen claimed credit for the Charlie Hebdo attack, a smaller attack in a Paris kosher market and another incident in Belgium were credited to ISIL sympathizers. It’s a shame that our nation’s resolve went wobbly when the current occupant of the Oval Office came to town, but that’s what leading from behind will do.

OPINION IN BRIEF
British novelist C. S. Lewis (1898-1963): “A little lie is like a little pregnancy: it doesn’t take long before everyone knows.”
Columnist David Limbaugh: “According to Gallup CEO Jim Clifton, for the first time in 35 years, the United States is no longer first but 12th (12th!) among developed nations in business startup activity. More businesses are closing than opening. Four hundred thousand businesses are being born each year in America, but some 470,000 are closing. That’s because America, under this president, is a business-hostile zone. What is President Obama planning on doing about this disturbing problem? Two things. First, he will deny the problem even exists as he continues to fraudulently proclaim that America’s businesses are smoking-hot. Second, he will exacerbate the problem with yet new business-killing, energy-killing lawless executive regulations honoring earth goddess Gaia with an involuntary sacrificial offering from the American energy industry. His regulations will dramatically cut methane emissions over the next decade. Based on his record in office and his continuing with these new regulations, it’s hard to tell whether he’s more motivated by his allegiance to environmental cultism or a visceral aversion to business. Or perhaps those interests are so interlocked that we needn’t quibble over which is dominant on Obama’s priority list. … Isn’t it wonderful to have a pro-business president who is staying so focused on the rising global threat of radical jihad?”
Columnist Michael Reagan: “The leader of what we used to call the Free World has been embarrassing the USA on the world stage for years by not going where he should go – or saying and doing things he shouldn’t when he does go somewhere. Let’s see. If memory serves, he didn’t go to Berlin in 2009 for the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Wall or to Poland for celebrations of the collapse of Moscow’s evil empire. And though he didn’t skip the 70th anniversary of D-Day last year in Normandy, he spent most of his time during the solemn ceremony chomping on bubble gum like a 12 year old. The French people were irate at the disrespect. It’s not that Monsieur Obama dislikes France. He also stopped in France in 2009 on what became known as his first ‘Apology Tour,’ where he apologized for America’s past ‘bad’ behavior, including being arrogant toward Europe, using the atomic bomb in World War II and trying to unseat communist dictators in Latin American. Meanwhile, the president has found plenty of time to visit other parts of Western Europe when it suited his political or publicity purposes. Remember when he went all the way to Copenhagen just to lobby for Chicago to be chosen to host the 2016 Olympics?”
Comedian Jimmy Kimmel: “Obama is focused now on cyber security. He’s pushing for new laws to protect companies from hackers. And who better to do that than the people who brought us the ObamaCare website? Not only couldn’t hackers get in, no one could penetrate it.”

What In The World Just Happened In Switzerland?
Central banks lie. That is what they do. Not too long ago, the Swiss National Bank promised that it would defend the euro/Swiss franc currency peg with the “utmost determination”. But on Thursday, the central bank shocked the financial world by abruptly abandoning it. More than three years ago, the Swiss National Bank announced that it would not allow the Swiss franc to fall below 1.20 to the euro, and it has spent a mountain of money defending that peg. But now that it looks like the EU is going to launch a very robust quantitative easing program, the Swiss National Bank has thrown in the towel. It was simply going to cost way too much to continue to defend the currency floor. So now there is panic all over Europe. On Thursday, the Swiss franc rose a staggering 30 percent against the euro, and the Swiss stock market plunged by 10 percent. And all over the world, investors, hedge funds and central banks either lost or made gigantic piles of money as currency rates shifted at an unprecedented rate. It is going to take months to really measure the damage that has been done. Meanwhile, the euro is in greater danger than ever. The euro has been declining for months, and now the number one buyer of euros (the Swiss National Bank) has been removed from the equation. As things in Europe continue to get even worse, expect the euro to go to all-time record lows. In addition, it is important to remember that the Asian financial crisis of the late 1990s began when Thailand abandoned its currency peg. With this move by Switzerland set off a European financial crisis? (Read More.…)
‘Limits On Free Speech’ – The Pope’s Latest Effort To Bring Muslims And Catholics Closer Together
Should criticism of Islam be banned? Should the kinds of cartoons depicting Muhammed that were published by French magazine Charlie Hebdo be against the law? In recent days, there has been a massive outpouring of support for free speech in the western world in the wake of the Charlie Hebdo massacre. But there have also been a few dissenting voices. One of these dissenting voices belongs to Pope Francis. He has publicly stated that “there is a limit” to free speech and that “you cannot insult the faith of others”. So obviously he does not approve of the cartoons of Muhammed that Charlie Hebdo has been publishing. By taking this kind of public stand, the Pope is going to further endear himself to the more than one billion Muslims in the world. Since he was elevated to Pope, he has been doing more than any of his predecessors to build bridges to Islam. So precisely why is he doing this? Why is he working so hard to bring Muslims and Catholics together? Could it be possible that he is laying the groundwork for a future one world religion? (Read More…)
The Perfect Storm for Wall Street Banks
I hate the term “perfect storm” but the attached article makes some great points about bank exposure to energy prices.

The new, “survivors” issue of the satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo has triggered outrage from Muslim communities all over the world, with worshipers staging protests all week. More are set to take place after traditional Friday prayers. Pakistani police fired tear gas and used water cannons on protesters in Karachi, with AFP photo journalist injured in the protests. Earlier on, dozens of Pakistani lawmakers marched near the country’s parliament in Islamabad, calling for “death to blasphemers.” “All political parties are with us… All Muslim countries should condemn these blasphemous cartoons,” Pakistani Religious Affairs Minister Sardar Yousaf said, NBC reported. The Muslim brotherhood in Jordan is preparing to rally in Amman, with spokesman Murad Adaileh saying the group strongly condemned both the killings and the “offensive” against the prophet, AP reported. Egypt’s top religious institution, the Al Azhar mosque, has expressed its outrage at the magazine’s new cartoon, describing it as a “blatant challenge to the feelings of Muslims who had sympathized with this newspaper,” AP reported. But after taking several screen shots, Lundh told the site the feed was mysteriously interrupted. According to Lundh’s text messages, he has found that there are “always some UFOs showing up” and that NASA always cuts the feed when the objects appear. Back in October a pair of UFO hunters saw a strange object near the station during a spacewalk.

|Ex-Muslim Pens Open ‘Wake-Up Call’ Letter to AmericaPosted: 16 Jan 2015 07:22 AM PST
Mark Christian, president and executive director of the Global Faith Institute—and the son and nephew of high-ranking Muslim Brotherhood leaders in Egypt—is a champion of the Christian faith. And this champion, who converted to Christianity about a decade ago, is calling on Americans to wake up to Islamic extremism. Christian has penned an open letter to Americans, spelling out the ideology of radical Islam. Here is the text of the letter: The circumstances we face are dire and we have no coherent way of addressing it until we establish the stark, bright line between Muslims who are willing to respect the religious liberty of others (which must absolutely require the abandonment of vengeance over insults, perceived or real) and those who count us as so many cattle, ripe for slaughter and easily led. Our society can no longer afford to self-censor when it comes to the “hair trigger” that is Islam. Muslims of the former type I described above may be offended, and for this I am sympathetic; but Muslims of the latter type will become enraged and will reveal to all the depth of their incompatibility with civilized society. This is my aim: to force these Muslims to expose their unacceptable radicalism for all to see, but also to reach a self-realization of the depravity of that radicalism that exists within themselves. |Vatican In Full Damage Control Mode After Pope Francis Justifies Islam Attack In FrancePosted: 16 Jan 2015 07:19 AM PST
THE VATICAN IS FURIOUSLY BACKPEDALING AS THEY TRY TO CLARIFY SOME EXTREMELY CONTROVERSIAL COMMENTS BY POPE FRANCIS
When speaking of the Charlie Hebdo murders at the hands of Islamic terrorists, Pope Francis said “You cannot provoke; you cannot insult the faith of others,” the pontiff added. Some say his statement seemed to condone last week’s terror attack at a French newspaper, CBS2’s Tony Aiello reported Thursday. On a flight to the Philippines, the pope took questions, and raised eyebrows. A French reporter asked about the attack at Charlie Hebdo, which was carried out by Muslims outraged over the paper’s mocking of the prophet Muhammad. Francis condemned those who kill in the name of religion, but then said, “If my good friend says a curse word against my mother, he can expect a punch. It’s normal.” This statement has outraged people all over the world still mourning the 15 deaths in France at the hands of Islamic terrorists. Francis was obviously saying that the Islamists were justified in doing what they did because their “prophet” was insulted, hence the reference to his own mother being insulted. More

|‘New York Times’ Launches All-Out Attack on ChristianityPosted: 16 Jan 2015 07:15 AM PST
Apparently, The New York Times is in favor of faith in the public square—if the purpose is to mock it. Editors at theTimes poured gasoline on the fire of Atlanta’s latest controversy with an editorial that should shock even their most liberal readers. Just when you thought the media couldn’t sink any lower, the Times takes on the same First Amendment that gives it the freedom to print these vicious attacks on Christians. In a stunning column on Jan. 13, the newspaper argues that men and women of faith have no place in public management of any kind. The piece, which shows a remarkable disinterest in the facts, claims that Atlanta Fire Chief Kelvin Cochran didn’t have permission to publish his book on biblical morality. Not only did Cochran have permission from the city’s ethics office to publish his book, but he only distributed it in his personal capacity at church—where a handful of his coworkers attend. But the shoddy journalism didn’t end there. Editors insisted that Cochran’s book was full of “virulent anti-gay views”—when in fact, the 162 page book only mentioned homosexuality twice. And both times, the conversation merely echoed the Bible’s teachings on the subject. For that—privately espousing a faith that a majority of Americans share—Kelvin was fired. More

|21 Contrasts Between Commercial and Biblical ChristianityPosted: 16 Jan 2015 07:13 AM PST
After Pentecost (Acts 3 and later), Christ-followers were first involved in something called “the Way” (Acts 24:22). After the gospel progressed to the non-Jewish world with the planting of the church in Antioch, the world called Christ-followers “Christians” because they were made up of both Jews and Gentiles who exhibited a radical devotion to be like Christ (Acts 11:26). Since Christianity was legalized by Emperor Constantine in the Edict of Milan (A.D. 313), Christianity went from being “the Way” to an institution that included nominal members who knew nothing regarding the radical faith of their early forbears. Since that time Christianity has become a popular, commercialized entity with only a remnant of followers with a biblically-based, radical commitment. (By “radical” I do not mean extreme or fanatical with odd anti-social and/or violent behavior; I mean the dictionary definition: “radical: affecting the fundamental nature of something; far-reaching or thorough.”) Unfortunately, what many today deem as radical was considered normal Christianity in the early church, and what is considered normal in the present church would be considered compromising to the early church. |Bestselling Book Pulled by Publisher as ‘Boy Who Came Back from Heaven’ Recants StoryPosted: 16 Jan 2015 07:10 AM PST
The publishers of a bestselling book written by a then-ten-year-old boy who claimed he “came back from heaven” have pulled the book from publication after the boy announced this week that he lied about his story and called upon Christians to repent for buying into “heavenly tourism.” “I did not die. I did not go to Heaven,” Alex Malarkey, co-author of “The Boy Who Came Back from Heaven,” wrote in an open letter. “I said I went to heaven because I thought it would get me attention.” “When I made the claims that I did, I had never read the Bible,” he continued. “People have profited from lies, and continue to. They should read the Bible, which is enough. The Bible is the only source of truth. Anything written by man cannot be infallible.” Malarkey had been involved in a car accident at the age of six, and was in a coma for two months. His book, published by Tyndale in 2010 and co-written with his father, claims that he died and went to heaven, having encounters with angels and ultimately meeting Jesus. The book reached bestseller status, and a documentary was also released about Malarkey’s story. Christian reviewers gave the book high marks. More

|Syrians are now Brazil’s largest refugee community, 1,400 Syrians sought refuge in Brazil last yearPosted: 16 Jan 2015 07:01 AM PST
A total of 1,400 Syrians sought refuge in Brazil last year, making them part of the largest refugee group in the country as they flee a bloody conflict, official figures showed Monday. The steady increase in Syrian arrivals over recent months means they now outnumber Angolans and Colombians in South America’s largest country, National Center for Refugees (CONARE) figures showed. In all, Brazil welcomed 2,320 refugees last year, more than triple the number for 2013 and the highest annual figure registered to date, CONARE said. The center put the total of Syrians at 1,739, compared with 1,071 Angolans and 834 Colombians. More
|Will there be another Presidential Election?Posted: 16 Jan 2015 06:56 AM PST
A woman who says she prophesied the assassination attempt on President Ronald Reagan says God has revealed to her a new, startling warning. “He showed me that if Christians don’t start praying more than they ever have … this next [presidential] election is not going to take place. That it’s going to be suspended. Because evil going to arise,” Glenda Jackson tells Sid Roth of the “It’s Supernatural” show. “Some disasters are going to happen. Things are going to be put in place. The president’s not going to be removed and he’s going to stay in. It’s going to be very bad if we don’t get hold of God,” she said. “The church has got to get back to prayer.” Jackson comes from a lineage of prophecy. Her great aunt, Maria Woodworth Etter, “rocked the world” with her amazing prophecies in the late 1800s. ( Excerpt From WND

The Good News Hiding Beneath the Headlines
As we begin another year, Philip Yancey reminds us: Grace hasn’t vanished.
After listening to several dark reviews of 2014—recapped news of the beheadings in Iraq, the Ebola epidemic, racial strife, airplanes crashed or missing, ongoing violence in Syria, Afghanistan, Ukraine, and several African countries—it’s no wonder we’re glad to put last year behind us. Amid all the fear and anxiety, where can we find some good news?
After a steady diet of cable news, you may be surprised to learn the following:
‘The Boy Who Came Back from Heaven’ Recants Everything
“The Boy Who Came Back From Heaven” actually never went. Alex Malarkey, a young boy who co-authored a book with his father about going to heaven and returning to earth first published in 2010, wrote an open letter to Christian publishers retracting his story.
Obama offers tens of thousands of Muslim refugees homes in U.S
Obama is being quietly applauded by United Nations officials for his agreeing to secretly allow 70,000 Muslim refugees to “legally” enter the U.S. as part of the an international resettlement program, according to the political action committee Combat Veterans for Congress. Besides providing these unscreened Muslim aliens with green cards, Obama and his minions are fast tracking them for U.S. citizenship.
The Daniel Plan – 50 Days of Transformation’s New Age Roots – Part 2
by NTEB Health and Wellness Editor Stephanie A. Buist, ND HC
THE DANIEL PLAN DOES NOT AGREE WITH SCRIPTURE
“Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.” Psalm 1:1 (KJV)
A few days ago I wrote a blog on Rick Warren’s Daniel Plan program. I wrote it based on the program I had been exposed to at a church I attended over the past few years. It always made me uncomfortable when the event rolled around in January. Yet I never took the time to look at the details and compare it to scripture until this year. What I have found is shocking and disheartening. So many people I know are doing this program thinking they are doing something biblical. To be Biblical it should line up with scripture right? Please read Part 1 to understand the background information that lead up to this follow up. There is so much information that this will have to be continued in at least one maybe 2 more posts.
In my previous post I received a lot of comments. Most were encouraging but one challenged me to go to Saddleback.com and listen to the sermons there, accusing me of being wrong about what Rick Warren teaches. That was a great idea. Most churches now have their sermons online for you to listen to later and Saddleback was no exception. Not only did it have it in video form but it also offered sermon notes to be used with the presentation.
Let’s stop right here. It is common to have people criticize you for writing things such as this. They tell you to be careful of what you are doing and tell you not to judge. Many see no issue with churches that have a little leaven in them as long as people are coming to Christ through them. Is that the way we are to look at it? What are God’s standards for absolute truth? Let’s look at some scripture.
- “A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump.” Galatians 5:9 (KJV)
- “But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. 24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.” John 4:23-24 (KJV)
- “Am I therefore become your enemy, because I tell you the truth?” Galatians 4:16 (KJV)
This is just a brief list – for further study on what our responsibility as Christians is in exposing error and protecting the truth. Check out “Is it Right?”
Please also consider listening to :
Chris Lawson and Ray Yungen discuss the serious compromise of Rick Warren allowing New Age doctors and various Alternative Health (New Age) practices on his Saddleback Church ‘Daniel Plan’ website. The dangers of “occultism” and the sympathies of Warren’s New Age doctors (leaders/advisers) are discussed in detail, as is The Daniel Plan website promotion of the “4-7-8 Breath Technique,” a method that comes directly from yogic literature and is used by “occultists” to enter Altered States of Consciousness.
I worked hard in presenting this information to use God’s word as absolute authority. To ask questions that make you think and to use the actual words and concepts presented by the church leaders and program directors themselves.
None of the “experts” that Rick Warren chose to create the Daniel Plan with are Christian:
Rick Warren goes on to explain how he chose his counsel for the creation of the Daniel Plan that has changed to what they are now calling “2.0”. He looked to the New York Times best seller list to pull Dr Mark Hyman and Dr Mehmet Oz into the fold. Dr Daniel Amen was his own personal physician. He selected Dr Hyman because he was skilled with the metabolism and Dr Oz because he was a heart specialist. As I stated in my previous post. These are not men of God. Amen is a psychiatrist who is new age, Hyman who is a Jew that practices Buddhist spiritualism and Oz who is a Muslim who also practices new age methods.

Duke University Cancels Muslim Call To Prayer After Massive Nationwide Reaction Against It
Duke University has canceled its plans to have a Muslim prayer announcement broadcast from Duke Chapel’s belltower on Friday afternoons
“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” Ephesians 6:12 (KJV)
Yesterday. NTEB was one of the very first news outlets to break the story of Duke University forcing their entire campus to listen to the Muslim azam, or call to prayer. Instantly the news spread and was picked up by every news agency out there, leading the fine folks at Duke to cancel their plans to broadcast the azan on campus.
It’s rare, but it happens, we are putting this one in the “victory” column in the fight against creeping Sharia in America. Keep fighting the “good fight”, people, it’s almost time to go Home.
WNCN reports that the university announced its plans to facilitate a weekly call to prayer; but on Thursday, Duke officials acknowledged the decision resulted in unintended backlash.
“Duke remains committed to fostering an inclusive, tolerant and welcoming campus for all of its students,” said Michael Schoenfeld, vice president for public affairs and government relations. “However, it was clear that what was conceived as an effort to unify was not having the intended effect.”
The university said it will instead welcome members of the Muslim community to gather on the quadrangle outside the chapel, before moving to its regular location in the chapel basement.
“It’s a slap in the face to Muslims,” said Khalilah Sabra, with the Muslim American Society.
The chant was intended to announce the start of the Duke Muslim Student Association’s prayer service, which the Muslim chaplain at Duke said “brings Muslims back to their purpose in life.” However after the school announced the weekly broadcast, the university’s Facebook page was flooded with angry comments.
One commenter said they had “totally lost respect for Duke University.” Another said that the university is a “… center for political correctness,” and that it’s “just plain bizarre that [they are] going to do an Islamic call to prayer.”
The plan also drew the ire of evangelist Franklin Graham, who urged Duke alumni to withhold support because of violence against Christians that he attributed to Muslims.
In a statement posted on Facebook, Graham, the head of Samaritan’s Purse and the son of Billy Graham, said, “As Christianity is being excluded from the public square and followers of Islam are raping, butchering and beheading Christians, Jews, and anyone who doesn’t submit to their Sharia Islamic law, Duke is promoting this in the name of religious pluralism. “I call on the donors and alumni to withhold their support from Duke until this policy is reversed.”
Duke, a private school, was founded by Methodists and Quakers and has a divinity school historically connected to the United Methodist Church. Duke has roughly 15,000 students, including 6,500 undergraduates. The school said about 700 students are Muslim. source – WNCN

The Reason Why Far-Left Liberal Atheists Support Islam
by NTEB Feature Story Contributor Geri Ungurean
After reading article after article on this subject, a breakthrough came today, and it was from the Word of God. Why did I not search there first?
I have racked my brain for years, trying to figure out why atheists and far-left liberals support Islam and even push educating our children in public schools about the “Religion of Peace.” The videos of beheadings and mass executions do not affect them. And obviously, their tiresome mantra “Separation of Church and State” doesn’t apply to Islam.
In my articles about Islam, I have said that I believe that Allah is Satan. I also believe that the Islamic jihadists are demon possessed. There are approximately 1.6 billion Muslims on our planet. A little over 300 million of them are jihadists and want us dead.
“We, as infidels in the eyes of our enemy, need to understand the danger we face: A totalitarian ideology – whether its origin is mainstream or marginal – threatens to enslave, dominate, and murder us in order to realize its vision for global conquest.” ~Brigitte Gabriel from They Must Be Stopped
“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” Ephesians 6:12 (KJV)
We are NOT fighting the Muslims. We ARE wrestling against principalities, rulers of darkness and spiritual wickedness — SATAN and his demons!
People have responded to me in shock and anger at calling Allah, Satan. They defend the “god” of the Muslims. And to that I say “Yes! Allah is god, but NOT the God of the Bible. He is the god of this world!
“Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee. By the multitude of thy merchandise they have filled the midst of thee with violence, and thou hast sinned: therefore I will cast thee as profane out of the mountain of God: and I will destroy thee, O covering cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire. Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty, thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness: I will cast thee to the ground, I will lay thee before kings, that they may behold thee.
Thou hast defiled thy sanctuaries by the multitude of thine iniquities, by the iniquity of thy traffick; therefore will I bring forth a fire from the midst of thee, it shall devour thee, and I will bring thee to ashes upon the earth in the sight of all them that behold thee. All they that know thee among the people shall be astonished at thee: thou shalt be a terror, and never shalt thou be any more.” Ezekiel 28:15-19 (KJV)
We know that after Lucifer was cast from heaven to the earth, and his name was changed to Satan.
Let’s look at what the Word of God says about Satan:
“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour.” 1 Peter 5:8 (KJV)
“Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.” John 8:44 (KJV)
“Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out.” John 12:31 (KJV)
“The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” John 10:10 (KJV)
“He answered and said unto them, He that soweth the good seed is the Son of man; The field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom; but the tares are the children of the wicked one; The enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are the angels. As therefore the tares are gathered and burned in the fire; so shall it be in the end of this world.” Matthew 13:37-40 (KJV)
“To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me.” Acts 26:18 (KJV)
A RECENT INVOCATION TO SATAN:
“LAKE WORTH, Fla. – Last Tuesday’s Lake Worth city commission meeting started as they all do. Then things changed. As atheist Preston Smith approached the podium to lead the prayer:
“Our collective atheism — which is to say, loving empathy, scientific evidence, and critical thinking — leads us to believe that we can create a better, more equal community without religious divisions. May we pray together?
“Mother Earth, we gather today in your redeeming and glorious presence, to invoke your eternal guidance in the Universe — the original creator of all things.
“May the efforts of this council blend the righteousness of Allah with the all-knowing wisdom of Satan. May Zeus, the great God of Justice, grant us our strength tonight.
“Jesus might forgive us of our shortcomings while Buddha enlightens us through His Divine affection.
“We praise you Krishna, for the sanguine sacrifice that has freed us.
“After all, if Almighty Thor is with us, who can ever be against us?
“And finally, for the bounty of logic, reason, and science, we simply thank the atheists, agnostics, and non-religious, who now account for one in five Americans, and growing rapidly.
In closing, let us, above all, love one another, not to obtain mythical rewards for ourselves now, hereafter, or based on superstitious threats of eternal damnation, but rather, embrace secular-based principles of morality — and do good for goodness’ sake. And so we prayed. … So what?” source
Did this atheistic person mention “The righteousness of Allah and the all-knowing wisdom of Satan” for a particular reason? I think that it was because the atheist is in reality a Satan worshiper. The rest of this man’s words are sarcastic and silly, but NOT when he spoke of Allah and Satan. Interesting, isn’t it?
I believe that we are in the last of the last days. Satan is unleashing his wickedness in ways that this world has not seen. He is not just masquerading as Allah. He is present at ecumenical meetings of the Vatican. He is instrumental in the deception of pastors in the church, who lead their congregations with lies from the pit of hell. Chrislam is a lie that is being preached as truth in many churches.
Why do the ungodly HATE the Jews with such a passion? The people who are anti-Semitic are godless and therefore they serve Satan. The mainline denominations who despise Israel and are marrying gays, and ordaining them as pastors – these are godless people who are serving Satan. SATAN HATES THE JEWS. He knows that they are God’s Chosen, and that Jesus came through their lineage.
I will never look at Muslims the same way. As a matter of fact, I will not look at atheists the same way. I believe that we are forgetting the power that Satan has while he still roams the earth. Of course we know that God is MORE powerful, but Satan IS powerful, and we see the results of this everywhere we look.
“But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.” 1 Corinthians 15:57-58 (KJV)

Beth Moore Deserves Better
Beth Moore should not be too distressed, however. She clearly enjoys considerable immunity from those who might actually do her real damage: women who know their Bible and their theology and have the public platform to speak out about her. Indeed, it would appear that she is a great example of the way in which a system of patronage shapes evangelicalism in America. Those who should criticize her will not do so because it might harm their platform and their prospects.
Beware the Horrible “But”-Monster
My point is simply to highlight that the most damaging threats (A) are within the church, (B) formally affirm either a “closed Canon” or “the sufficiency of Scripture” (or both), and then (C) in practice and redefinition eviscerate the truth, leaving Scripture drained of its God-given authority and Christians enslaved to forces and vagaries emanating either from their own glands or the mouths of their anointed leaders.
Why Christians Don’t Seek to Avenge Insults against God
Yes, God will accomplish perfect justice in the end. Justice is good, and we rest in that. But the most honored act of all time, for which Jesus was highly exalted by the Father, was not avenging His Name, but dying for those who disgraced it. He didn’t dismiss justice, but instead He upheld it by bearing it on His own shoulders. This central act of Christianity burrowed into our understanding of the virtuous life and slowly infiltrated all of Western culture—so much so that we in the West now take for granted the beauty of patient, gracious, self-sacrificial humility over an immediate exercise of punitive power. We forget that not every culture has seen this as desirable. It’s an echo of Christ, not something men naturally reason to on their own.
“The Boy Who Came Back From Heaven” Recants Story, Rebukes Christian Retailers
“It is only through repentance of your sins and a belief in Jesus as the Son of God, who died for your sins (even though he committed none of his own) so that you can be forgiven may you learn of Heaven outside of what is written in the Bible…not by reading a work of man. I want the whole world to know that the Bible is sufficient. Those who market these materials must be called to repent and hold the Bible as enough.”
An Analysis of Noble’s Unrepentant Apology
Noble doesn’t apologize for the false claim that he heard from God. Even if you think God does give people messages like this, you have to disqualify this one because God surely wouldn’t have asked Noble to proclaim such a huge error. The claim that God told him to preach this message has made it practically impossible for Noble to retract and properly apologize for the sermon. To do so would be to acknowledge that he can be wrong about his claims of divine revelation that are an important source of his authority within the church.
“Gay Christian” Conference Features “Third Way” Pastor
In the aftermath of his decision to move away from orthodoxy, Cortez shared that fellow Christians would ask him, “How can you as a pastor accommodate sin?” Cortez’s response was simply that “in the field” traditional Christian teaching on marriage “is not working.” Cortez said, “We need to think long and hard about the way we are interpreting Scripture, because when I look at Jesus interpreted Scripture it was to give life.”
When The Final Judgment Is Good News
Not only did Christ die for the ungodly, which—contra Pelagius—he used as a synonym for “unrighteous”—but even more scandalously he justifies those who are, in themselves, intrinsically, unrighteous. Not that they should remain unrighteous, not at all. No, Paul makes clear that, having been declared righteous for Christ’s sake alone, we ought to grow in sanctity and righteousness because we have been declared righteous. We know too that there are not two-stages of justification, initial and final. No, believers are as totally justified now as they shall ever be.

According to Christian News Network:
Concerns are being raised after Duke University’s student paper announced this week that the Muslim call to prayer will be broadcast from university’s bell tower each Friday.
“Members of the Duke Muslim Students Association will chant a weekly call-to-prayer from the Duke Chapel bell tower beginning Friday, Jan. 16,” Duke Today outlined in a report on Tuesday. “The chant, called the ‘adhan,’ announces the start of the group’s jummah prayer service, which takes place in the chapel basement each Friday at 1 p.m.”
Genesis And Jasher
Q. I’m wondering if it is accepted to use books other than the original books of the bible for bible study. I ask, because my wife & I are currently attending a Bible study Sunday evenings and the book of Jasher is given as much (if not more) credence than the book of Genesis that we are supposed to be studying. Do you think this is OK?
Attracting People At Any Cost And By Any Method?
Q. We have been attending this Biblically sound church now for some years. The teaching is amazing and accurate. The leaders have announced that they will change the Saturday evening worship service to include more upbeat music (admitting it will sound louder) and occasionally include lasers and smoke during the worship. My problem is that, even though their motives seem to be that they want to attract more young people, I can’t help but think that this is appealing to the flesh, and not allowing the Holy Spirit to draw them to himself. Young people already hear this stuff in the world, and we don’t need to duplicate it in the church. Should we try to attract young people (as the Church has been trying to do for over 20 years now) at any cost and by any method?
What’s Wrong With Me?
Q. I really feel uncomfortable in all the churches I’ve attended bar one when I lived in London. I don’t attend anymore as I work long hrs and also have a health problem that can be very painful and very draining. When I get home at night after working I just want to sit in front of the TV and relax. Is this wrong as a Christian to be spending more time on work, TV, and family than with the Lord? I’m worried that I’ll be one to whom He says. “I never knew you.” I used to be on fire for the Lord. What’s wrong with me?
