Barack Hussein Obama and God’s Judgment Upon America
“And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.”
Back in early 2008, I got busy — determined to find out everything I could about Obama. I read things that alarmed me. The more I read, the more questions I had, and the more alarmed I became.
I first saw this man when he was the keynote speaker at the Democratic National Convention in 2004. I had never before heard my sons talk about politics until that night. It was like a spell was cast over them.
‘American Sniper’ Review: A Patriotic, Pro-War On Terror Masterpiece
“American Sniper” opens during the worst days of Fallujah in Iraq. Kyle (Bradley Cooper) is the eye in the sky watching his fellow warriors through a sniper scope and protecting them when necessary with the kind of precision shooting that will quickly make him a legend (and target).
Through a door, an Iraqi woman emerges with a boy who can’t be older than 10. They walk towards a group of Marines. She hands the boy a large grenade. Kyle has been told by his superiors that what happens next is his call.

Paralyzed Bride Takes Miracle Walk Down the Aisle
Take a break from bad news . . .
Tami Martin’s dreams of walking down the aisle probably varied from the average woman.

Martin broke her back in a car wreck in 1999, according to USA Today, and struggled for years in physical therapy. Doctors told her she would never walk again.

(CN) — A man in the UK is sharing his story of spending 12 years trapped in his body after also being in a coma for two of those years.

Alabama Officials Pass Resolution Declaring Winfield a ‘City Under God’
(CN) — Officials in an Alabama city recently passed a resolution declaring the municipality of Winfield a “city under God.”
The resolution was passed in late December at the prompting of Mayor Randy Price, who urged city council to make the statement and take a stand for Christ.
“I feel like we need to stand up for what is right,” he told AL.com. “Our forefathers said ‘One nation under God’ and we went so far away from that. There are not enough godly people involved in day-to-day decisions.”

Two Dead, Hundreds Injured as Filipino Crowd Throngs Idol Being Marched Through Streets
(CN) — Two people are dead and hundreds more were injured as the result of massive throngs that followed and sought to press up against a centuries-old statue of Christ that was marched through the streets of Manila as part of an annual Roman Catholic celebration called the Feast of the Black Nazarene.
While the large number of those filling the streets could not be counted with surety, police in the Philippines estimate that at times more than half a million Filipinos participated in the procession, which takes place every Jan. 9th in the city. Roman Catholics carry white cloths and seek to touch the wooden carving of Jesus carrying the cross out of their belief that it possesses healing powers.

Pastor Exhorts Montana Lawmakers to Obey God Rather Than Men
(CN) — A Wisconsin pastor presented a sermon before the Montana legislature this past weekend, teaching on what is known as the Doctrine of Lesser Magistrates, a historic and biblical doctrine that dates back to the times of Moses and Daniel.
Matt Trewhella, pastor of Mercy Seat Christian Church in Milwaukee, had been invited by the group Project Liberty Tree to present this year’s election sermon at the Montana state house in Helena following the release of his book “The Doctrine of Lesser Magistrates.” The book focuses on the refusal of civil magistrates to obey laws that are immoral or ungodly, believing that divine laws trump human commands.

Is the Bible enough? Is it sufficient? There are a lot of books on the market lately that appear to be personal testimonies of people who have actually visited heaven. The problem is, these experiences are outside of what Scripture tells us about heaven, and there is no way to validate them. But Christians have […]

The Rubber Sword of Toothless Truth
Jan 13, 2015 11:01 am | Scott Alan Buss
It looks awesome from a distance. Sounds great, too – whistling through the wind as its proud owner swings it here , there and everywhere, like a skilled and dangerous soldier or knight. But, at the end of the day, it’s just a toy. The wannabe soldier is merely pretending. His sword is a fake; an imitation without an edge. […]

Jan 13, 2015 10:16 am | A.Spreeman
When people die in their rebellion against God, the Bible is very clear about their fate. But while it is still today, do we care enough to roll up our sleeves and content for the faith – even when the unbelievers are hateful toward you? Our guest Robert Meyer shares a personal testimony in an […]

College-proofing your student
Jan 12, 2015 08:49 am | A.Spreeman
We’ve heard the heartbreaking stories from parents who send their student – faith intact – off to University, only to see those young adults come home with a very different world view that reinvents Jesus, or even brushes Him aside. A huge percentage of young people walk away from anything to do with God as […]

WVW-TV Why America is Decreasing, Who is Bringing Her Down, and How the Financial, Religious, and Political Power is Shifting to a Euro-Centric Empire (Part Two)
In this program Brannon Howse reveals how Georgetown Professor and mentor of Bill Clinton, Carroll Quigley, explained how Cecil Rhodes would use his vast fortune to begin organizations and scholarship programs, of which Clinton was a recipient, for the purpose of creating a world government.
Rhodes was influenced by his Oxford Professor John Ruskin who desired a world government that he referred to as a British Empire. Ruskin also influenced Sidney Webb who went on to form the Fabian Socialist Society in order to carry out the goal of his mentor John Ruskin. It was from the influence of the Fabian Socialist Society that the Labor Party was created. Is a Revived Roman Empire with a euro-centric influence rising? Was this euro-centric, revived Roman Empire predicted in Daniel 2 and Daniel 7?
Much that God has Satan seeks to duplicate. Satan has a false church, false gospel, false miracles, and he is seeking to build a false and earthly kingdom. Daniel chapter two tells us that Satan will achieve such a kingdom for a time but that God’s kingdom will crush the kingdom of Satan and the Kingdom of God will last forever.
The historical images, history, contemporary facts, and Biblical insight in this program will keep your attention and make the hour program seem like mere minutes. Yet, most importantly this program will help you to understand, or have reaffirmed, that while the world seems to be spinning out of control the fact is that God has predestined the events that are unfolding.

If you helped us to underwrite the cost of our free Contend 2015 student Worldview Weekend then we want you to join us in rejoicing over the fruit from this Biblical ministry you helped to make possible.
High school and college students are interested in being treated like young adults, they are not interested in gimmicks, and they want to be equipped with biblical truth and we have the testimonies to prove it. We had a full house with students from 25 states. We had a very large stack of handwritten testimonies but we have chosen these to share with you in hopes it will encourage you as so many of you were part of making this conference possible. We did not even take an offering at the conference because we wanted the students to know we had no financial agenda. We even gave them three Biblical worldview books for free. Read This Powerful Testimony:
I came to the Contend conference last year as an unbeliever. I was a sophomore college student majoring in psychology. After, and during the conference, I began to see how messed up my major was, and the foundations of psychology, among many other topics. I began to see the truth and the truth was not secular psychological theory but God’s Word. My mind was imploding and I felt my whole life was a lie. I decided to accept Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior and never looked back. I went back to college with a new worldview, search and seeking the truth; not speculation.
I saw my major for what it was; a lie. Psychology doesn’t truly help people. I also had an eating disorder when I was 12, and struggled with it for many years despite psychiatrists and hospital treatment. After the conference, and seeking truth, I realized my eating disorder came from my sinful, selfish heart, not my parent’s divorce, and not TV shows.
This conference is amazing. It speaks about truth and real current issues. The information is not sugar coated. The speakers tell you how it is. I would recommend this conference to anyone and everyone. I am truly grateful for this conference.
In my neuroscience class they don’t even know how psychiatric drugs work for sure; it is all speculation and a money game with pharmacy companies. My prof admitted this!

The Ineptitude of Moral Equivalence
Last week a newspaper office in Paris was attacked by gunmen who murdered twelve people. The specific targets were the paper’s editorial cartoonists, and the motive for their murder was the fact that they had often drawn cartoons disparaging Mohammad.
While the attack was swiftly condemned by many political leaders—France’s own president called it “an exceptional act of barbarism”—it was also met by many people eager to protect the reputation of Islam. The fact that the murders were done to avenge the reputation of Mohammad and that the politically correct response was to protect Islam’s reputation is ironic indeed.

New Math on College Campuses
The New York Times published a provocative news story called “The New Math on Campus.” No, it’s not about the failure of Common Core to teach arithmetic; it’s about the changing ratio of males to females on most college campuses.
Long ago when I went to college, campuses were about 70 percent male, and until 1970 it was still nearly 60 percent. Today, however, the male percentage has fallen to the low 40s on most campuses.

On the Shoulders of Giants
It was Isaac Newton who famously penned the sentence, “If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.” In saying this, he meant to communicate his respect for and dependence on the great minds that had come before him. Whatever advances he was able to make, he recognized that he stood upon the work of those who had come before him, giving him greater views of the heights he was to ascend.

Worldview Weekend Radio with Host Brannon Howse:
Guest: Dr. John Whitcomb joins us for another episode of Ask Dr. John. Question: Please help me understand Gen. 3:7 and Luke 24:31. In both of these passages it speaks of people whose “eyes were opened”. What does it mean to have one’s eyes opened? If they were not physically blind, how can their eyes be opened? Can we also have our eyes opened if we are followers of Christ? Question: How many people did God speak directly to or through in the Old and New Testaments? Question: My pastor teaches that the gift of prophecy in 1 Cor. 14:1 and following is not the same as teaching, though it is similar. I do not see any difference. What Scripture is there to support or disprove the view that they are different gifts? If they are different, what is the difference?”
Question: How should believers approach those who claim to be Christians but clearly show no evidence of true faith? Should we pray for them and approach them with Scripture, or leave them alone? Question: Can a person who does not believe that the Bible is the final authority be truly saved? Question: At what age are children considered to be of the “age of reason”? What age is no longer considered “innocent”? Question: Will believers have the full knowledge of the Scriptures in heaven? Question: Will the majority of all people who have ever lived be saved or unsaved? Question: How did people find energy to serve God in the Old Testament without the permanent indwelling of the Holy Spirit? Topic: We take your calls.

Encounter God’s Truth with Dr. John Whitcomb:
Today on Encounter God’s Truth, Old Testament teacher Dr. John Whitcomb provides us with an overview of the life of the prophet Daniel one of his Biblical heroes. He and host Wayne Shepherd present this program in the hope that the Lord God will do a work in each of our hearts as we focus on this encouraging example of faith during difficult days. Dr. Whitcomb concludes by showing how Daniel’s prophecies tie to the book of Zechariah which we will study again beginning next week. All the intricate details that we find in both books remind us that God’s Word is true from the beginning to the end. May God bless you as you share this broadcast.

This edition of Crosstalk focuses primarily on the details surrounding the removal of Atlanta Fire Chief Kevin Cochran. Cochran was terminated from his duties following a city investigation. The complaint by Mayor Kasim Reed deals with a pro-family book that Cochran authored for his men’s Bible study that upholds the biblical view of sexuality and contradicts the homosexual agenda. Cochran received a one month suspension without pay in November and then it was announced that he would be fired. Before losing his job, Cochran was required to complete sensitivity training and was prevented from distributing copies of his book on city property.

Steel on Steel with John Loeffler:
In the wake of the tragedy in Paris this week, John takes a look in his boralogue at islamaphobia and how hate speech laws are a farce and an impediment to freedom of speech. He also addresses the need for Islam to modernize and whether the rest of us can survive the violence until then.
First up on the program is Joy Brighton (www.joybrighton.com), former Wall Street trader and author of the book Sharia-ism is Here. She will examine the slow stealthy growth of radical Islam in the United States, and how that growth is being fueled both by political correctness and a general ignorance that there’s a problem.

The Justin Peters Program:
Rest for the Weary – part 3
We are doing a series on Matthew 11:25-30. In last week’s program we discussed the context of our passage, specifically verses 20-24 in which Jesus denounced the cities of Chorazin, Bethsaida, and Capernaum. In today’s program we will talk about Jesus’ public effusion of praise to the Father for hiding the things of the Gospel. From whom did He hide them and why did He hide them? We usually think of God revealing truths, not hiding them. So, what is going on here?

The Remorse of Abortion and the Healing of the Gospel, Lecrae, John Piper, & John Ensor. This is a bit on the long side (37 minutes), but is a fascinating and convicting conversation. Hip hop artist Lecrae joins Pastor John Piper and president of PassionLife John Ensor to candidly discuss abortion, urban life, justice, and race. Here’s is an excerpt from Lecrae’s autobiographical song, “Good, Bad, Ugly.”
Sex on my brain, and death in my veins
Had a main thing, we stayed up ‘til 2 (Smokin’)
Waking and thinking we naked, my body was loving it
Soul was hating it, man
Time and time after time, our bodies were close (the girl was so fine)
Heard a heart beat that wasn’t hers or mine
The miracle of life had started inside
Ignored the warning signs
Suppressed that truth I felt inside
I was just having fun with this, I’m too young for this
I’m thinking me, myself, and I
Should I sacrifice this life to keep my vanity and live nice?
And she love and trust me so much that whatever I say, she’d probably oblige
But I was too selfish with my time
Scared my dreams were not gonna survive
So I dropped her off at that clinic
That day, a part of us died

Five Habits to Keep Your Marriage Strong, Leigh Ann Dutton. Most marriages don’t become beautiful or nasty because of one dramatic event. Instead, they are the sum total of thousands of daily decisions, conversations, and seemingly mundane habits. These aren’t a panacea, and only scratch the surface of what it means to love, forbear, and forgive. But it’s a strong start.
How I Almost Lost the Bible, Gregory Alan Thornbury. “My freshman year…we learned that the Bible was a pastiche of traditions and sources, cobbled together mainly in the second century. … We learned how to do form and redaction analysis, a method of study that assumes the author of a biblical text is motivated by a theological agenda rather than by reporting what he had seen. We simply ‘knew’ that the book we were holding in our hands did not have a direct connection to the apostles whose names were associated with the Gospels and Epistles. For me, this dose of higher criticism was nearly lethal. Any sense that the Bible was divinely inspired and trustworthy, or that the creeds had metaphysical gravitas, started to seem implausible. … I was approaching something close to New Testament scholar Bart Ehrman’s own story of losing faith.”
Five Ways to Protect Yourself from Cold-Hearted Familiarity with God’s Word, Mike Leake. Cold-hearted familiarity: that’s a startling phrase, especially when the topic is God’s Word. Yet for many of us, we can easily be led away from regular time reading Scripture by the devilish little lie, “You already know it.” The diagnosis is clear enough. So what are we to do? Leake offers five answers. They aren’t easy, but follow them and you won’t find yourself yawning at Scripture.
Which Bible Promises Are for Me? Jen Wilkin. The Bible is full of promises, thousands of them. And as Wilkin points out, few thing in life are as comforting as promises made and kept. But how can I be sure that the promise I’m lifting out of Deuteronomy (or Psalms, or Matthew, or Titus) actually applies to me and my situation today? Wilkin offer six common pitfalls to avoid.

Between Perry Noble’s ‘word from the Lord’-derived Christmas Eve sermon, and Beth Moore’s ongoing claims to personal, direct revelation, and others within professing evangelicalism who would affirm their personal conversations with the God of the universe, there has been quite a bit of chatter (actual chatter, not ‘gee, I think that might have been God giving my heart a little squeeze’) about the nature of how God speaks today and whether or not impressions, instincts, and nudges can originate from Him.
‘Don’t put God in a box!‘ is an argument I hear quite often (and, quite frankly, I’d really appreciate it if continuationists, postmoderns, and undiscerning Christians would adopt a new slogan. This one is pretty tired). Well, how about I contain Him not in a box, but a book? A book that, incidentally, He Himself wrote as holy men were carried about by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit (2 Peter 1:21).
God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world. (Hebrews 1:1–2)
For we did not follow cleverly devised tales when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of His majesty. For when He received honor and glory from God the Father, such an utterance as this was made to Him by the Majestic Glory, “This is My beloved Son with whom I am well-pleased”– and we ourselves heard this utterance made from heaven when we were with Him on the holy mountain. So we have the prophetic word made more sure, to which you do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star arises in your hearts. But know this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture is a matter of one’s own interpretation, for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God. (2 Peter 1:16–21)
All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work. (2 Timothy 3:16–17)
Is that okay? Is it okay for me to ‘limit’ God, as it were, within the confines of His holy Word? Look, I get it. Sometimes we just ‘feel led’ (if you’ll forgive the expression) to do or say something, and it turns out that God, in His providential, sovereign plan and timing, ordained that circumstance to further His perfect plan. But that doesn’t mean that God was talking to you personally and directly outside of Scripture. Let’s be careful with our terms, shall we, brethren? Because when we say that ‘God told me’ to do or say or write something, we tread into very precarious waters.
Think with me for a moment—if I say, ‘God told me’ to write this blog post, what does that ultimately imply? It implies that this blog post has all the authority of the written Word of Scripture. ‘No, no,’ you argue, ‘God speaks to me, but I would never elevate that experience higher than the Bible.’
My friend, if you think that God is speaking to you directly and personally, but you do not elevate that as high as Scripture, then you sin. Does God ever speak with less authority? Does He say, ‘Hey, Jim, I want you to make note of this and act on it, but just know that I’m not speaking with my full authority as the Lord of all here’? Really, if you think about it, to view God in this way is to view Him as little more than the pope. The pope, after all, holds quite a bit of earthly authority, but He only speaks ‘infallibly’ when he’s speaking ex cathedra (in Catholic theory and tradition, anyway). Do you see how illogical and ridiculous it is for us to apply the same thinking to the Lord and King of the universe? Worse, do you see how utterly blasphemous it is for us to do so?
Causing further confusion amid these claims to revelation is the fact that the recipients of these alleged ‘words from the Lord’, while claiming to not elevate such words above Scripture, also do not want anyone to question those words. After all, these words and thoughts came from God. Again, this returns us to the issue of authority. Either God speaks authoritatively or He does not. You cannot have it both ways, so pick one. If you believe He speaks authoritatively at all times that He speaks, and you believe that He is still giving revelation today, then buy a Bible with a lot of blank sheets in the back so that you can keep adding to Scripture each time your liver shivers. If you don’t believe He speaks authoritatively, then stop calling Him God and stop waxing eloquent about what you think He told you. In either instance, if you think He is still providing ongoing revelation, you probably should stop talking, open your Bible, and do some prayerful study and examination.
Now…wait…hold on just a minute…is that you, Lord? What’s that? You want the readers to stop listening to the murmurs of their deceitful heart and hungry tummy and instead want them to pause and enjoy their week in review (kind of)? Well, okay then. I can’t argue with that. Here’s your week in review (kind of):
- I am not responsible for the hole that you are about to put into your wall by slamming your head into it with great force. Also, there are no refunds on the 7 minutes of your life that you are about to lose.
- Dan Phillips has joined the forces of The Cripplegate!
- If this is true about David Jeremiah’s Turning Point, I wouldn’t be a bit surprised.
- What is the Gospel? No, really…do you know?
- In light of recent events…
- I definitely agree that taking notes by hand helps you process and retain more information.
- Don’t go to this conference. No arguments! Don’t. Go.
- It’s like Hollywood is trying to redeem itself or something.
- I knew about this awhile ago, but it’s getting some new publicity. And now Tyndale House is going to stop selling the book altogether. Great news. Thankful for Alex Malarkey and his mother, Beth.
- Thankful also for this post by Phil Johnson, where he offers a timeline of the Malarkey fiasco and sets the record straight.
- “Male and female and ‘whatever‘, He created them.” Wait…what?
- Mortification of Spin’s Todd Pruitt weighs in on Beth Moore’s nonsense.
- The sad thing is, you can find a lot of this same Pope-abilia at the local Family Not-So-Christian Store.
- Here’s your weekly dose of adorable (thanks, Rick!).
- Free books!

Discernment: Flatteries of false teachers
We are told in many verses about the false prophets and false teachers coming to deceive the people. They use false words, flatteries, and smooth speech. The antichrist will be the most full version of a false prophet ever, being full of sin. His name will be Man of Sin. (2 Thess. 2:3)
All the false prophets and teachers that come before the Man of Sin will be less potent, but no less dangerous. They use the same methods. Satan sticks with what works.
Sometimes I discuss false teachers with friends. I might mention Beth Moore or Billy Graham etc. One thing that I hear most often when I discuss this with people is “But they talk about Jesus!”
This tells me we need to look at how false teaches deceive by using rhetoric, oratory and speech. Earlier this week I looked at false teachers’ motivations. Now let’s look at their methods.
Be Skeptical of Dr. Oz’s Remedies and Rick Warren’s “Plans”
Dr. Mehmet Oz, who is a renowned cardiothoracic surgeon, author and host of a successful TV show, has involved himself in some, um, questionable cures for what ails you. According to a Fox News report, a recent study showed that “Half of Dr. Oz’s health advice is bad.” Die-hard Oz fans will more than likely ignore the study results and continue tuning into his TV show for advice from him and the panel of doctors that appear regularly, even knowing that Oz and the other doctors often recommend products straight out of Quacksville.
Our idols would never steer us wrong, would they? I mean, Oz wouldn’t allow his fans to purchase remedies that have little basis in fact or that many in the scientific community agree are bogus. Test the “cures” and you will find that, in some cases, what they recommended is on par with the sort of thing you’ll find in a witches brew – bat wings, spider legs and crow bones.
From the Fox News report:
The researchers found that about half of the suggestions offered by these shows either contradicted what other scientific studies had found or had no verifiable evidence at all to stand behind them, and that potential conflicts of interest were seldom mentioned.
The study looked at 40 random episodes from each show—instead of simply, as Belluz points out, “cherrypicking the worst offenders”—to get the fairest assessment. In general, each episode offered up about a dozen health recommendations, so the researchers were able to cull 479 health tidbits from Dr.
Oz’s show and 445 from The Doctors. Most of the shows’ suggestions involved dispensing general medical advice, followed by non-weight-loss dietary tips; the Doctors professionals tended to repeat the mantra of seeking out a health care provider.
But while the benefits of many of the claims were talked about in a general way, specific benefits and magnitude of those benefits, possible drawbacks, and costs were virtually ignored, the study found.
The researchers’ conclusion? “Consumers should be skeptical,” and we should ask ourselves “whether we should expect medical talk shows to provide more than entertainment.” (Dr. Oz’s “magic bean” recently lost the study that supported it.) (Fox News’ link. Emphasis added.)
Meet Mehmet
This is not the first time I’ve reported on Dr. Oz. In early 2011, I wrote a piece to alert the Church that SBC pastor and best-selling author Rick Warren had elicited the help of three doctors to write a plan (Warren is all about plans) to promote health and fitness for his church located in Lake Forest CA. What struck me was that all three doctors hold New Age/New Thought beliefs. Moreover, the trio is involved in what some deem questionable medical practices. One of the docs Warren asked to help with his endeavor to lose much needed weight and start his journey to better health was Dr. Mehmet Oz. The end result was The Daniel Plan.
I noted back in 2011 in my piece titled “Rick Warren Introduces the ‘Devil Plan’” that:
Some Here, Some There — January 16, 2015

BTW, catch me for a full hour on The Janet Mefferd Show today, Friday, from 3pm-4pm Texas time.
- When someone uses “God is not the author of confusion” in reference to feelings of confusion in discerning God’s personal will, you can rest assured that you are in the presence of someone to whom “exegesis” is, at best, a Scrabble word.
- You’re welcome.
- Todd Pruitt brings the goods on Beth Moore, who he calls a prophet for an undiscerning church. Like Pat Robertson, like Todd Bentley, like Perry Noble, like Mark Driscoll, like Joseph Smith, like Ellen G. White, and like a host of others, Moore has “Jesus” tell her things He doesn’t tell anyone else.
- You see, this is why the Sufficient Fire conference is so needed. Go now, find out if any registrations are still available, and come.
- Did I mention Perry Noble? You all know about Noble’s crazy statements about the Ten Commandments and Hebrew. Well now he’s issued an apology of sorts, which in itself is rare enough in the God-tells-me-stuff-He-doesn’t-tell-you set.
- You see, parenthetically, if God tells you stuff straight-up…why bother studying Hebrew?
- Concerning Noble’s apology, Fred Butler has offered his thoughts in a careful, nuanced, helpful post sensitively subtitled It’s All God’s Fault I’m an Idiot.
- Which all just goes to show you that…
- Also, James Duncan responds to Noble’s “apology.”
- Over at The Gate of Crippledness (got my Hebrew on), Steven Ingrino offers a detailed survey of books he does and doesn’t find helpful in expounding the Gospel of Mark.
- At that same blog, the gate was left slightly ajar, allowing this stray entry.
- I will admit I’m small enough that I wondered if delicate souls who have blocked me and removed Pyro from their blogrolls — but who do still read Cripplegate — had a pea under their mattress that day.
- Carl Trueman defends Beth Moore.
- OK, not really. But it was fun writing it, and it was fun picturing Carl’s eyebrows as he read it.
- So the government will test the religion of homeschooled kids and see if they need to jail the parents. Where, East Germany? Nope; right here, in Oba-merica. In Virginia, no less. [See update in comments, below.]
- Here are the doors to the dream church, in many Christians’ minds:
- On Texas in the early days: “Texas seemed to have more Baptists than people…” Texas hasn’t changed. Nor have Baptist math-skills. Interesting read.
- Phil Johnson updates and comments on the controversy surrounding the book The Boy Who Came Back from Heaven, written portentously enough by a gent called Malarkey.
- From Pulpit and Pen comes some very troubling backstory. (h-t Robert Sakovich)
- I invented a cartoon superhero when I was a yoot, trying to draw. His name was Malarkey Man. Little-known fact. You’re welcome.
- In our family, we (or at least I) would call this “yet another unmarketable talent.”
- Lyndon Unger, the Bare-knuck Canuck, continues getting Biblely about “shacking up” (i.e. serial fornication by roommates), in part two of his series.
- I would not be caught dead using (or thinking) the “the Gospel is true because it’s good news) argument. That said, I’m having real trouble understanding how “Your life is short and meaningless and the universe cares nothing for you” is better news than the Gospel.

Fire Chief Kelvin Cochran’s Statement on Being Terminated
Religious leaders gather outside of the Georgia State Capitol to protest a decision by Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed to terminate Atlanta Fire Chief Kelvin Cochran. Supporters believe the decision was based on religion, while the Mayor contends the decision was about judgement and protocol. The chief’s statement begins at 1:20.56.

A false revival is coming. Do you hear laughter?
Today in the modern church a big storm is brewing, and with it we’re seeing:
- More direct revelation and extra-biblical experiences
- More signs and wonders/mysticism
- More merging and melding of religions and movements
- More entertainment-driven services
- More New Age conferences blending with “Christian” leadership
- More false christs
Warren Smith is the author of the book, “Another Jesus” Calling: How False Christs are Entering the Church through Contemplative Prayer.” Is a must read. He is also the author of several pamphlets available at Lighthouse Trails, including the brand new, False Revival Coming Part I: Holy Laughter or Strong Delusion? We’ve reposted it with permission, and it is available for purchase now at Lighthouse Trails Publishing.
One of the names you’ll hear mentioned on today’s program is Rodney Howard Browne, considered the father of the “Holy Laughter Movement.”
Here is a very disturbing clip of what this looks and sounds like:
Browne has not repented, nor has he gone away. For the past several summers (and this July as well), he has been a political darling of the New Apostolic Reformation and Washington D.C. Daughters of the American Revolution event called, CELEBRATE AMERICA DC, with Rabbi Jonathan Cahn, and Michelle Bachman. “We came here on assignment. God told me to go to the United States,” Browne said. “He said, ‘I am sending you as a missionary to the United States.’” He said there is a coming revival and the church must get ready. Source:
Words of Comfort: Intellect and conscience.
“And when they had appointed him a day, there came many to him into his lodging; to whom he expounded and testified the kingdom of God, persuading them concerning Jesus, both out of the law of Moses, and out of the prophets, from morning till evening” (Acts 28:23).
Notice that Paul used both prophecy and the Law of Moses in his evangelism. Prophecy appeals to a man’s intellect and creates faith in the Word of God. As he realizes that the Bible is no ordinary book—that it contains numerous indisputable prophecies that prove its supernatural origin—he begins to give Scripture credibility. However, the Law of Moses appeals to a man’s conscience and brings conviction of sin. A “decision” for Jesus purely in the realm of the intellect— with no biblical knowledge of sin, which comes only by the Law (Romans 7:7)—will almost certainly produce a false convert.

Why “Let Go and Let God” Is A Bad Idea
“Keswick theology is pervasive because countless people have propagated it in so many ways, especially in sermons and devotional writings. It is appealing because Christians struggle with sin and want to be victorious in that struggle now. Keswick theology offers a quick fix, and its shortcut to instant victory appeals to genuine longings for holiness.”
Children Are NOT Born Nice
“The results suggest that altruistic behaviour may be governed more by relationships, even brief ones, than instincts. ‘I think the findings will stir up some controversy, but in a good way,’ Dweck said. ‘People often call something ‘innate’ because they don’t understand the kinds of subtle experiences that can make something, like altruism, flourish.”
Lecrae Brings Reformed Rap to Jimmy Fallon’s Tonight Show… Again
“Jimmy Fallon made good on his promise have the Reformed Christian rapper back on the program, a few months after Lecrae sat in with Fallon’s house band, The Roots. Why I Don’t Date Men Who Are ‘Willing’ To Save Sex For Marriage
“A man who is “willing” to save sex is a man whose choice to abstain from nonmarital sex likely isn’t underlain by much other than the absence of my consent. He’d be as content—or more—dating a woman who doesn’t practice chastity. But I don’t want to marry a man who settled for a chaste woman. I want a man who wants a chaste woman, who holds a high bar for me because he wants me to become the woman God designed me to be.”
9 Things You Should Really Know About Anglicanism
“In Anglicanism, Scripture alone is supreme as the saving Word of God. Reason and tradition play an auxiliary role. This was the view of divines like Thomas Cranmer and Richard Hooker. There is a popular myth that Anglicanism views reason, tradition, and Scripture as a three-legged stool of authorities, but it is quite false.”
The Episcopal Church: See No Evil Hear No Evil
“Millions of dollars spent on property lawsuits look increasingly like money badly spent, and still the coffers fill up with millions of dollars from terminally ignorant Episcopalians still bent on pouring their hard earned money into the institution.”
The Crackup Of The American Family: What To Do?
“The numbers that show that children raised by their two biological (or adoptive) parents do substantially better in every respect in life than those who are not. They do better in school and in higher education, they do better at jobs and economically, they develop more stable and lasting relationships personally.”
New Atheism And The Rectification of Names
“What are the assumptions about faith made by the ”new atheists”? Some are empirically untenable, such as the idea that religion is the major cause of hatred and violence in the world (some of the most horrendous crimes in modern history were committed by regimes and movements with atheist ideologies). Or the idea that religion is mainly believed in by ignorant and prejudiced individuals.”
The “Nones” Are Here… And Have Been for Over 100 Years
“It’s unlikely that the New Atheists are responsible for the growing statistical prominence of “nones” as Sam Harris and Richard Dawkins hit the bestseller lists a good 10-15 years after the uptick in “nones” back in the 1990s. It’s important to recall, however, that the presence of Americans who find Saturday- or Sunday-morning solace in nature or the newspaper goes back quite a bit further.”
What do I do if I don’t love my spouse anymore?
by Matt Slick
If you are a Christian and you don’t love your spouse anymore, then you must learn what biblical love is so that you can love your spouse properly. Human-based love is a feeling. Biblically-based love is an action, a sacrificial commitment to others, and you don’t need to “feel” it to do it. Let’s take a look at what the Bible says about love.
Can my marriage be saved after adultery?

Should Christians attend homosexual weddings?
by Matt Slick
Whether or not Christians should attend homosexual weddings is a sensitive topic. From what I see in Scripture, a Christian should not attend such a wedding since it would risk being a support and approval of something that is against God (Lev. 18:22; Rom. 1:26-27; 1 Cor. 6:9-10). As a Christian, and as an apologist, I must stand firm and represent God properly. Sometimes taking a stand means to reject ungodliness, even if it means being ridiculed.
Can Mary hear our prayers?
by Matt Slick
There is nothing in the Bible that says that Mary can simultaneously hear the prayers of people all over the world, in different languages, spoken and thought, an attribute that God possesses. However, the Catholic Church says she can.
