Barack Obama set a new record for backing down on a “fairness” tax increase noted in his State of the Union. A week after Obama proposed “free” community college paid for by taxing 529 college savings accounts, the White House is dropping the idea of the tax. Both House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) lobbied the president to drop the half-baked proposal, warning Obama it was a political blunder. Jared Bernstein, former economic adviser to Joe Biden, described the tax on 529s as “kicking a ball in your own goal.” Obama must have thought only rich people used 529s, as he put $240,000 into college savings for his daughters in 2007 alone. But according to the College Savings Foundation, the amount sitting in the average 529 is $19,774 — less than a tenth of Obama’s annual contribution. It’s the way 12 million American families prepare for college. You could call it “middle-class economics.” But Robert Tracinski argues that the Left really is anti-middle class: “The truly committed leftist looks upon our private savings as a vast reserve of capital unfairly withheld from its proper function of servicing the needs of the state.” To the Left, all money belongs to the government. Congressional Republicans haven’t exactly been enthusiastic about challenging Barack Obama’s executive amnesty. But never fear — House Speaker John Boehner is borrowing a play from his ObamaCare attack: suing the president. The Daily Signal reports, “For Boehner to proceed, the House would have to approve a resolution authorizing him to take legal action on immigration, as it did last July in connection with a lawsuit over the Affordable Care Act. According to a House GOP leadership aide, legal options include joining an already filed lawsuit from more than half of U.S. states on Obama’s executive action or filing a separate lawsuit.” The problem with legal action, says Heritage Foundation’s John Malcolm, is “Obama is not saying that [illegal immigrants] will never be removed. He’s just deferring action.” That could make all the difference in court if a judge gives Obama a wide berth for “prosecutorial discretion.” On the other hand, Obama’s power grab is quite clear — perhaps even clear enough for a judge to see and strike down. Plus, this allows Boehner to tell conservatives he’s doing everything he can to fight the president’s lawlessness. More…
The Obama administration announced Tuesday that, while it would move to block drilling in significant portions of Alaska, it would seek to open some of the Atlantic Coast to drilling. But lest you celebrate a sane policy shift, The Washington Post reports, “Any drilling would be at least a decade away and likely subject to intense political and legal battles between industry backers and environmentalists worried about the risk of oil spills.” Furthermore, explained Amy Harder of the Wall Street Journal, “Secretary Sally Jewell of the Interior Department stressed that this is the broadest plan that they’re going to consider. When it goes final in the next couple of years, they may whittle it down to something smaller than what they proposed today. … So I think the plan can only get narrower and given the president’s commitment to climate change, I wouldn’t be surprised if they ultimately took it out of the final plan, though at this point it’s far to early to say.” Indeed, the Left’s dedication to fighting climate change will derail many economically sound plans in the coming years.
The United States’ ranking in the 2015 Index of Economic Freedom rose slightly, but no thanks to the Obama administration. The survey conducted by the Heritage Foundation and The Wall Street Journal still declares the U.S. only the 12th freest nation in the world, but there were gains when the government slowed its spending. Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) says it was because Republicans in Congress, influenced by the Tea Party, reined in government. “I think it’s noteworthy that because of a new Republican Congress that took over in 2011,” Ryan said, “we brought some temper to the out of control spending that was happening here in Washington and as a result, it made us more free. That’s a good step in the right direction with many, many steps to follow.” Since Obama took office, the nation’s rank has fallen from 6th place to 12th, even as the rest of the world grows in its overall freedom. It’s a lesson the world is slowly learning and the Left refuses to recognize: The path to prosperity is through Liberty. More…
Speaking in India, Barack Obama returned to one of his favorite themes: climate change. And he needs India’s help. “I know the argument made by some — that it’s unfair for countries like the United States to ask developing nations and emerging economies like India to reduce your dependence on the same fossil fuels that helped power our growth for more than a century,” Obama said. “But here’s the truth: Even if countries like the United States curb our emissions, if countries that are growing rapidly like India with soaring energy needs don’t also embrace cleaner fuels, then we don’t stand a chance against climate change.” He’s right in a sense. Obama can cripple the U.S. economy all he likes, but if India and China don’t go along with his scheme, it’s all for naught in terms of reducing global emissions. But why would they go along? They know their economies can’t afford the huge hit, and, thus, they’
Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker spoke at Saturday’s Iowa Freedom Summit, where he repeated the need for “common sense conservative reform” and the need to “go big and go bold” if Republicans are to win in American politics today. His bold speech met an equally bold reception, and make no mistake: He’s launching his presidential bid.
The Hill headlined the event as “Scott Walker Takes Iowa by Storm,” and Rush Limbaugh complemented Walker’s “pedal-to-the-metal, wall-to-wall conservatism with charisma and bold ideas and solutions based on his own policies.” Walker’s message was music to the conservative crowd’s ears. He preached conservative principles, and his audience loved it.
Walker spoke about his experience with education in the Badger State, saying that now schools can hire the best teachers, and the teachers can be paid commensurate with their performance. He discussed the burden of excessive government and reducing red tape and enforcing common sense regulations. He also spoke about the need for tort reform, concealed carry and the castle doctrine.
Walker is known for his success as a conservative governor in a blue state. He turned the $2 billion budget deficit he inherited into a $1 billion surplus. And he did it the old fashioned way — by cutting taxes and cutting spending. Walker’s policies helped reduce unemployment from nearly 8% to 5.5%, created 100,000 jobs and raised per capita income by 9%. Furthermore, he achieved what most Republicans believed to be impossible: ending teacher tenure and collective bargaining for government employees.
And while he’s been governing his state, he’s also experienced the hellish heat of the Left’s most vicious attacks. Despised by the Leftmedia, he’s been a target any time he’s offended their sensibilities. His ending collective bargaining for public sector workers earned virulent hatred and even death threats against his family.
This may, however, work to Walker’s advantage. Few of his GOP primary opponents will have the experience standing up to a fierce Democrat assault to destroy his governorship and even to jail him.
In 2012, Democrat district attorneys launched a secret investigation of Walker. Their goal was to prove that “John Doe,” the code name they used for the governor, had received illegal campaign contributions. Walker and dozens of his friends and associates were smothered with subpoenas.
The investigation was nothing more than a witch hunt led primarily by Milwaukee DA John Chisholm. The pitch-fork-wielding mob took two shots in court, and two judges threw out charges citing a lack of evidence and misuse of prosecutorial powers.
Striking back, the Wisconsin Club for Growth filed a federal civil rights suit, alleging the DAs’ secret investigation and tactics are an unconstitutional abuse of Walker’s civil rights. But the DAs claim they’re immune from being sued. Meanwhile, the Leftmedia continue running misleading headlines about the “scandal” surrounding Walker.
More well known than the attempt to paint Walker as corrupt was the recall leftists mounted against Walker in 2012. With the media against him and out-of-state interests pouring money in to defeat him, it’s astounding that Walker defeated Tom Barrett by an even wider margin than his original election. In 2014, Walker was again victorious, this time over dishonest challenger Mary Burke.
He beat them in the polls, he beat them in the legislature and he beat them in the courts. Still, they aren’t finished. Walker’s desperate opponents are asking the Seventh Circuit Court to let them reopen the campaign investigation.
While Walker has yet to officially join the 2016 Republican field, we expect him to put up a good fight. He doesn’t have the support of the GOP establishment, which should encourage conservatives. Unfortunately, the lawsuit cost him and the conservative groups that support him a great deal of the money needed to fund his campaign. Walker will definitely appeal to conservative voters, especially over other candidates who are conservatives in name only. But money greases the way to power, and Walker’s lack of it makes his success questionable.
New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady is dominating the headlines amid allegations of cheating in his team’s 45-7 playoff win over the Indianapolis Colts last week. At least he was — Boston still is the subject of most newswires, but for the past two days that was thanks to an ironically well-timed blizzard, not Brady. The real DeflateGate, however, is Barack Obama’s negligence concerning foreign affairs while obsessing over things beyond his control. Last week, Yemen fell hostage to Islamic extremists, the latest in a string of countries whose leadership crumbled to radical uprisings. Nevertheless, terrorism’s expanding influence is not what the president chose to emphasize is civilization’s greatest threat during his State of the Union address. No, that would be a perpetual straw man — global warming.
Shortly after delivering self-congratulatory remarks on his counterterrorism policies, Obama proceeded in his SOTU address to declare, “No challenge — no challenge — poses a greater threat to future generations than climate change.” Really, how crazy must one be to worry about getting blown to smithereens or having your throat slit by maniacal fundamentalists when the oceans might rise a bit within the next century? And here we thought the president already had that situation under control. In 2008, the story was that Obama’s inauguration would mark “the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal.” Six years later, the world is going up in flames, and it’s not because of a man-made fever.
“2014 was the planet’s warmest year on record,” said the lecturer in chief, a statistic that was the conclusion of a new report by NOAA’s National Climatic Data Center. According to NOAA, earth’s average temperature last year was 1.24°F above average — sea surface temperatures were the highest on record (1.03°F above average), while land temperatures came in fourth place (1.80°F above average).
Even if we take the government at its word and assume last year was indeed the warmest — since records began in the late 1800s, it’s important to note — the report lacked two particularly big disclaimers.
For starters, last week the Daily Mail revealed, “The margin of error is said by scientists to be approximately 0.1C. … As a result, GISS’s [Goddard Institute for Space Studies] director Gavin Schmidt has now admitted [government officials believe] the likelihood that 2014 was the warmest year since 1880 is just 38 per cent.” Incredibly, the trumpeted “consensus” appears suddenly irrelevant.
Second, Obama’s ensuing remark is simply unfounded: “Now, one year doesn’t make a trend, but this does: 14 of the 15 warmest years on record have all fallen in the first 15 years of this century.” According to Remote Sensing Systems (RSS) satellite data, the staple of modern temperature recordings, the globe has experienced no observable warming now for more than 18 years. NOAA omitted that inconvenient truth, however, because the nearly two-decade long hiatus doesn’t fit the narrative.
It seems Mother Nature presents a twist every time envirofascists open their petulant mouths — and indeed, drivers on Monday’s snarled I-95 corridor would have enjoyed some global warming. Tom Brady may be tossing under-inflated footballs, but the narcissist in chief has been prematurely spiking the ball ever since he entered the Oval Office, all while destroying our Liberty, one policy at a time. Unless America begins taking seriously the real DeflateGate, the only thing we’ll be left with is a Hail Mary.

OPINION IN BRIEF
Philosopher Bertrand Russell (1872-1970): “The essence of the liberal outlook lies not in what opinions are held, but in how they are held: instead of being viewed dogmatically, they are held tentatively, with a consciousness that new evidence may at any moment lead to their abandonment.”
Economist Walter E. Williams: “This year’s congressional efforts to reduce corporate income tax will create great opportunities for demagogues. The United States has the highest corporate income tax rate among the 34 industrialized nations of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development. The effect of high corporate taxes gives corporations incentives to lower their effective tax rates by engaging in activities that lower their competitiveness and to shift profits to foreign subsidiaries. Demagogues will claim that corporations should pay their fair share of taxes. The fact of the matter, which even MIT economists understand but might not publicly admit, is corporations do not pay taxes. An important subject area in economics, called tax incidence, says the entity upon whom a tax is levied does not necessarily bear the full burden of the tax. Some of the tax burden is shifted to another party. If a tax is levied on a corporation — and if the corporation is to survive — it will have one of three responses or some combination thereof. It will raise the price of its product, lower dividends or lay off workers. The important point is that only people, not some legal fiction called a corporation, bear the burden of any tax. Corporations are merely government tax collectors.”
Columnist Jonah Goldberg: “Over the weekend, the same president who boasted about increased oil and gas production days earlier in the State of the Union address … announced he wants to designate part of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge a wilderness, in effect taking billions of barrels of oil off the table. … A president who believed in negotiating might trade a ban on offshore arctic drilling for opening up ANWR, which would be much safer. He might also consult with Alaska’s political leaders, who passionately oppose Obama’s scheme. If Obama believed in negotiating, he would have used the Keystone pipeline as a bargaining chip. He would trade the higher taxes he (always) wants for tax reform. He would acknowledge that the GOP won an election in 2014 and that its interests matter. But negotiating requires acknowledging that people who disagree with you have a legitimate point of view. And such concessions to reality would take Obama out of his comfort zone. And anything outside of that is a no-go zone for this president.”

Why The Damage To The Economy Caused By The Oil Crash Is Going To Get Progressively Worse
We are really starting to see the price of oil weigh very heavily on the economy and on the stock market. On Tuesday, the Dow was down 291 points, and the primary reason for the decline was disappointing corporate sales numbers. For example, heavy equipment manufacturer Caterpillar is blaming the “dramatic decline in the price of oil” for much lower than anticipated sales during the fourth quarter of 2014. Even though Caterpillar is not an “energy company”, the price of oil is critical to their success. And the same could be said about thousands of other companies. That is why I have repeatedly stated that anyone who believes that collapsing oil prices are good for the U.S. economy is crazy. The key to how much damage this oil collapse is going to do to our economy is not how low prices ultimately go. Rather, the key is how long they stay at these low levels. If the price of oil went back to $80 a barrel next week, the damage would be fairly minimal. But if the price of oil stays at this current level for the remainder of 2015, the damage will be absolutely catastrophic. Just think of the price of oil like a hot iron. If you touch it for just a fraction of a second, it won’t do too much damage. But if you press it against your skin for an hour, you will be severely damaged for the rest of your life at the very least. (Read More….)
What Do They Know? Why Are So Many Of The Super Wealthy Preparing Bug Out Locations?
A lot of ultra-rich people are quietly preparing to “bug out” when the time comes. They are buying survival properties, they are buying farms in far away countries and they are buying deep underground bunkers. In fact, a prominent insider at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland says that “very powerful people are telling us they’re scared” and he shocked his audience when he revealed that he knows “hedge fund managers all over the world who are buying airstrips and farms in places like New Zealand”. So what do they know? Why are so many of the super wealthy suddenly preparing bug out locations? When the elite of the world start preparing for doomsday, that is a very troubling sign. And right now the elite appear to be quietly preparing for disaster like never before. (Read More…)
The McAvany Intel Memo
Into this hostile, highly volatile Middle Eastern region and world of Islam, America inserted a quarter of a million troops in 2003 as we invaded Iraq for the second time in a little over a decade. At that time, MIA wrote that we were entering a Middle Eastern quicksand bog, and embracing an Islamic tar baby that would entangle us for decades and massively exacerbate the Muslim world’s hatred for America. Over 4,500 US troops died (“official numbers” – the true count was probably higher than that); over 100,000 Iraqis (mostly innocent civilians) died, though again the real number was probably multiples of that; and we totally destabilized the region and set the stage for the radical fundamentalist upheaval we are seeing today.
Our first excuse for the invasion, war, and 10-year occupation that would follow was that Saddam Hussein had dangerous weapons of mass destruction (WMDs). However, the only ones he actually had were chemical weapons that Bush Sr. had supplied to Iraq between 1985 and 1990, during the eight year Iran/Iraq war. Those were moved out of Iraq to Syria weeks before the US invaded by truck convoys manned by Russian Spetsnaz troops. (Photos of this transfer were readily available to our government and were even on the Internet.)
A second reason given for the US invasion was that Saddam Hussein was behind 9/11. This was a blatant lie – al-Qaeda was not even in Iraq at that time, and our government knew that Hussein had nothing to do with the World Trade Center attack. A third excuse for the invasion was that Saddam Hussein was a dangerous, evil dictator who, like Hitler, was a threat to the world. This was absurd, since the US has always supported dangerous, nasty dictators – especially if we “owned them,” as we did Hussein – whom we had armed and supported for over a decade as a buffer against radical fundamentalist Iran.
And a fourth reason cited for our invasion was that we wanted to bring democracy to Iraq. This was laughable since, with the exception of Israel, there has never been democracy in the Middle East and America has been supporting strongmen, dictators, and monarchies all over the Middle East and around the world for at least 65 years….

|Mayor de Blasio Refuses to Drop Church Worship Ban in NYC Public SchoolsPosted: 28 Jan 2015 07:31 AM PST
A Christian church is continuing its battle for the unfettered right to rent New York City public school buildings to host worship services during non-school hours, with a conservative legal firm filing a brief with the U.S. Supreme Court that pushes back against the local government’s ban on such rentals. The Alliance Defending Freedom has asked the Supreme Court to review a U.S. Court of Appeals Second Circuit decision that upheld a city policy banning the use of public school buildings for church worship after school hours, according to a press release from the legal firm. The latest legal clash between the house of worship and the New York City government comes nearly one year after Mayor Bill de Blasio received praise from the faithful for seemingly coming to the rescue of houses of worship. At the time, he pledged to overturn the ban that was previously adopted and upheld by former Mayor Michael Bloomberg. “I believe that a faith-based organization has a right like anyone else … to use that space,” de Blasio said at the time, pledging to update city regulations to reflect that sentiment. But he never updated those rules, though the ban remains on hold while the Supreme Court decides whether it will hear a review of the appeals court ruling; the high court has rejected the case in the past, as Christianity Today reported. Beyond not updating the regulations, de Blasio’s administration also submitted a petition to the Supreme Court on January 12, claiming that the city’s policy is permissible and that it doesn’t impose “prohibition, restraint, or burden on religious exercise.” More

|Photos Show China Military Buildup on Island Near SenkakusPosted: 28 Jan 2015 07:27 AM PST
Recent satellite photos of an island off the coast of China confirm Beijing’s buildup of military forces within attack range of Japan’s Senkaku islands. Construction of a helicopter base on Nanji Island was observed by a commercial spy satellite in October. The island is off the coast of Zhejiang province—some 186 miles northwest of the Senkakus, a group of resource-rich islets China calls the Diaoyu Islands. The imagery, obtained from the Airbus Defense and Space-owned Pleaides satellite, reveals China is constructing an airfield with 10 landing pads for helicopters on Nanji Island. Military analysts said the new military base appears to be preparation by the Chinese People’s Liberation Army for an attack or seizure of the Senkakus. “China’s new heli-base on Nanji Island demonstrates that the PLA is preparing for an offensive military operation against the Senkaku/Daiyoutai Islands,” said Rick Fisher, a senior fellow with the International Assessment and Strategy Center. “If you want to rate the level of tension, this is the PLA reaching for its holster. When forces start deploying to Nanji Island, that means the hammer is cocked.” More

|‘A Sense of Urgency’ Compels New Ministry to Stand FIRM With IsraelPosted: 28 Jan 2015 07:24 AM PST
The erosion of support for Israel within the church in recent years—especially among millennials—has not set well with Wayne Hilsden and other pro-Israel leaders. The co-founder and senior pastor of King of Kings Community Jerusalem—a Messiah-centered, Spirit-empowered disciple-making community that reveals the truth face of Jesus to Israel and the nations—Hilsden isn’t mincing words about his view that many leaders in the the evangelical church have failed to pass the torch of truth about Israel to the next generation. Nor is he taking a mandate that he believes God recently gave him to “get Israel back into biblical theology.” That mandate comes in the form of FIRM (Fellowship of Israel Related Ministries), a ministry Hilsden and many other prominent Messianic Jewish and Jewish ministry-related leaders formed in 2014, according to its mission statement, “to unite a global fellowship of biblically sound believers committed to cultivating Messiah-centered relationships that work to bless the inhabitants of Israel and the worldwide Jewish community.” FIRM will initially launch its initiative to the world at its Israel Summit at Resurrection Fellowship Church in Loveland, Colorado, on Feb. 4-6. |Dutch Sheets Tells Story Behind the Appeal to Heaven FlagPosted: 28 Jan 2015 07:18 AM PST
Within the Christian circles of which you and I are a part, you may have seen someone waving a white flag displaying an evergreen tree beneath the phrase, “An Appeal to Heaven.” As of late, this banner has made its way into countless prayer gatherings, prayer rooms, political rallies and government buildings. The Appeal to Heaven flag holds great significance as it relates to the founding of our nation, God’s eternal covenants, and our present hope for America. The first time I saw this flag was at the 2013 Spring Commencement Ceremony of Christ for the Nations Institute, where I formerly served as Executive Director. I invited one of my spiritual sons to serve as commencement speaker. He is a Captain in the United States Army and had just returned from serving as the legal adviser to a Special Operations Task Force in Afghanistan. He served with Army Green Berets and Navy Seals —some of the best-trained units in the world! The Captain delivered a powerfully challenging message to the graduates, but toward the end of his speech, he wanted to make a special presentation to “Papa Dutch”, as he sometimes calls me. To be honest, I was a little uncomfortable with this idea because I did not want the focus to be off of the graduates and on me. However, honored by my spiritual son’s kind intention and trusting his heart, I allowed the presentation to continue. More

|What Do They Know? Why Are So Many Of The Super Wealthy Preparing Bug Out Locations?Posted: 28 Jan 2015 07:08 AM PST
The insider that I mentioned above is named Robert Johnson. He is the president of the Institute of New Economic Thinking, and what he recently told a packed audience in Davos is making headlines all over the planet… With growing inequality and the civil unrest from Ferguson and the Occupy protests fresh in people’s mind, the world’s super rich are already preparing for the consequences. At a packed session in Davos, former hedge fund director Robert Johnson revealed that worried hedge fund managers were already planning their escapes. “I know hedge fund managers all over the world who are buying airstrips and farms in places like New Zealand because they think they need a getaway,” he said. |Air passengers’ bank details to be handed to police under EU anti-terror planPosted: 28 Jan 2015 07:03 AM PST
Every airline passenger flying in and out of Europe will have personal data including their bank card details stored on a police database, under new anti-terror plans. The move by the European Commission would mean all information collected during check-in would be made available to the security services. Civil liberties campaigners said the move would invade the personal privacy of thousands of air travellers, and called for it to be blocked. But supporters of the plan, including most European interior ministers, say it will allow potential jihadists to be monitored as they travel across Europe. More

Why do teens still smoke? On addiction, advertising, and the rise of e-cigarettes
U.S. teen smoking rates have dipped below 10 percent, but public health advocates worry that progress may soon level off, as other surveys suggest teens think light smoking is safe, and e-cigarette use is on the rise. (Carstensen, Fox News)

A No-go Zone for Truth by Cliff Kincaid
Accurately reporting on no-go zones dominated by Muslims in Europe is now a no-go zone. Our media have made a mess of the whole issue and are now afraid to dig themselves out. What a disgrace and disservice to news consumers. Jumping on the pile, the left-wing Politico has published a story accusing Louisiana Republican Governor and possible presidential candidate Bobby Jindal of telling a “lie” about the no-go zones by saying they exist. But the story is itself based on a lie. Things are so twisted that Politico is doing the lying by denying that the no-go zones exist. How did we get in such a mess?

A More Spontaneous and Genuine Evangelism by Jim Elliff
It was not Jesus’ intent to say that the individual Christian must change locations in order to evangelize. But it is most certainly the whole church’s responsibility to see to it that we make disciples where we are, now. Evangelism is not to be done later when the move takes place, or when the trip is taken to another far off country, or when the special evangelistic project commences, though it is certainly inclusive of these.
Does The Grand Canyon Confirm Geological Evolution? By Ken Ham
A recent college basketball broadcast on ESPN TV turned into a quick creation vs. evolution discussion, which included a reference to the Grand Canyon of Arizona as an apparent argument for “evolution.” Bill Walton, a retired NBA basketball player who is now a sportscaster, gave his apparently Christian cohost, Dave Pasch, a copy of Darwin’s The Origin of Species and said, “I want to make sure you believe in evolution.” Pasch replied, “I don’t,” and later offered to bring Walton a book that refutes Darwin’s ideas. Walton later commented, “I believe in science. And evolution. I’ve been to the Grand Canyon.” Though the conversation may have been cut short by a producer, this statement seems to show that Walton thinks the Grand Canyon supports the idea of geologic evolution. But the Grand Canyon actually stands as a testament to catastrophe—the global Flood of Noah’s day!
Making Disciples of All Nations with God’s Inerrant Word by Mike Riccardi
Picture a high school math teacher that casts doubt on the textbook he’s teaching from. How adept at mathematics do you think his students will be? Or imagine a quarterback that doesn’t have confidence in his coach’s playbook. How far can the team progress into the season? These scenarios illustrate the reality of much of the theological education on the mission field today. Liberal Christianity and skepticism regarding the truthfulness of the Bible have been exported from the shores of America, and flown throughout the globe into the remotest regions on the planet. The consequences of the aspersion cast upon the text of Scripture have been devastating to the mission field.
Heaven: From Someone Who’s Been There by Clint Archer
Claims of sight-seeing return trips to Heaven and Hell are still in vogue among publishers today. However, I swear A Visitor’s Guide to Hell (Sterling Ethos, NY, 2014) is not a book vying to join that growing club. Launching from Jesus’ teaching about the rich man in Hell and Lazarus in Heaven the book explores the biblical descriptions of the afterlife.

Encounter God’s Truth with Dr. John Whitcomb:
How are the people of God to relate to the people of this world who do not know the Lord? How would He have you to respond to their sinful behavior in light of His offer of salvation? Bible teacher Dr. John Whitcomb answers that question this week as we continue in Part 3 of his series called, Zechariah: The LORD Remembers. Gods Word is true from the beginning to the end. That certainty is reinforced in this program as we consider how the believers in Judah were to understand and associate with their pagan neighbors in light of their past history and the prophetic future. Whitcomb Ministries presents this message with thanks to Middletown Bible Church in Middletown, Connecticut, where it was first offered to a Bible conference. Host Wayne Shepherd also encourages us to find reassurance in the reality that, The LORD Remembers.

THE FOURTH BEAST OF DANIEL
Chris discusses end time prophecy and the teachings surrounding the fourth beast mentioned in the book of Daniel, and how we are told that the saints shall take away his dominion to consume and destroy it unto the end (Dan. 7:26). But what does this mean? The Reformed view of prophecy generally held that the anti-Christian powers would not be overthrown all at once; but would be consumed gradually one century after another, and then finally destroyed at the Second Coming of Christ. Can we find evidence of this in the pages of history?
The Danger Zone with David Farnell
Part 2 of “Those Who Do Not Learn the Lessons of History.” Older Evangelicals who were encouraged to study in Britain and Europe are now encouraging their students to attend continental schools. These younger students now are more radical and disrespectful, not only of God’s Word, but ironically of the evangelicals who sent them there, reminiscent of Jesus’ Words in Matthew 23:15 “Woe to you scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! You travel on land and sea to make a disciple, and when you make one, they become twice as much as son of hell as yourself!”

More from Beth Moore
Beth Moore made some news a couple of weeks ago when a young woman, aged 22, referred to her as a false teacher. Beth Moore contacted her and exchanged some emails with her trying to understand why. Those emails were made public and were quite telling. The young woman’s husband, Briar, contacted me and asked for some guidance in their interaction with Moore. In this program I will discuss a statement that Moore said which indicates she truly does not understand the logical conclusions and biblical gravity of her claims that God speaks to her outside of Scripture.

Creation Training with Mike Riddle:
Evidence for the Existence of God part 5 In this final session Mike gives powerful evidence for the truthfulness of the Bible. The combination of evidences (manuscript, history, archaeology, prophecy, and science) leaves no doubt that the Bible is God breathed and all of it is good for teaching (2 Timothy 3:16). Mike gives some amazing facts about the Bible and shows that the track record of all those who have opposed God’s Word through ridicule or compromise have been consistently wrong and God’s Word remains unchanged.

Barna releases latest numbers on ‘churchless’ Americans
A new study finds that approximately 43 percent of Americans don’t attend church.
The study also reveals that a vast majority of churchless Americans have attended church but don’t embrace what it means to live out the Christian faith.
According to Barna’s own website on the issue, it found that 33 percent of Americans reported they once attended church.
False Teachers: ‘Words From The Lord’ Cannot Supersede the Bible
False teachers tend to avoid difficult truths such as sin, judgment, and repentance, and focus on what people want to hear, rather than what they need to hear. (Refer to Jeremiah 23.) False teachers provide layers of truth mixed with error, but even a broken clock is right twice a day.
Today, when the truth of God’s Word is spoken, people are often offended because they’ve been conditioned to hear “feel good” messages that do little in calling out sin.
Why the Prosperity Gospel Is the Worst Pyramid Scheme Ever
McDonald was previously involved in the prosperity gospel movement, (i.e. the counterfeit version of Christianity falsely teaching that Christ guarantees health, wealth, and prosperity to those who have enough faith and give enough money to a prosperity gospel ministry). After being enlightened by the truth of Scripture that such a gospel is false, he now shares 3 reasons why it’s really the worst pyramid scheme ever:
The Gospel in Three Directions
by Pastor J.D.
If you were to ask the average Christian, “How can you become more self-controlled, more upright—essentially, more in line with God’s will?” what would the answer be? Greater will power, perhaps. Or maybe more theological knowledge. Having accountability partners. Maintaining a consistent quiet time. The list goes on.
What if you asked the Apostle Paul? His answer would be clear: you change when you experience the grace of God. “The grace of God,” Paul says, “train[s] us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives” (Titus 2:11–12). How does God’s grace do this? By focusing our attention in three directions:
The gospel points UPWARD, redirecting our worship.
Sin problems don’t start as sin problems. They start as worship problems. At the root of all sin, as the Apostle Paul explains, is the colossal mistake of “giving the glory of God to created things” (Romans 1:23). The Hebrew word for glory (kabod) carried the connotation of “weight.” The Greek word for glory (doxa) hints at ideas of majesty and beauty. Put the two together and you get a good idea of the problem: we gave a weightiness and a beauty to things more than we gave to God. As Matt Papa says in Look and Live, sin is simply worship misdirected.
But Is God In It?
by Bill Muehlenberg
There are a million things being done for God every hour – probably more. There is so much activity and busyness and frenzied work being done in and for God’s name. We can be thankful that so much is being done in the name of our Lord.
But we must always ask a few hard questions about our mountain of activity: Is God really calling us to do this? Is God really in this activity? Does God really get glorified by what I am doing? Is God’s presence fully found in our ministry or work for God?
Those are questions we need to constantly be asking. Sure, we have copious amounts of promises in Scripture about God being with us. And in a general sense he of course is with all believers all the time. But is he specifically with us in a specific task? Is he clearly involved in the tasks we are performing?
A clear summary of early Christian beliefs
In his post One of the Clearest (and Earliest) Summaries of Early Christian Beliefs, Dr. Michael J. Kruger quotes and comments upon a description of Christian beliefs written by Aristides, a converted Athenian philosopher, to the emperor Hadrian around 125 A.D. Dr. Kruger concludes:
This is a surprisingly thorough and wide-ranging summary of core Christian doctrines at a very early point in the life of the church. And it was this form of Christianity that was publicly presented to the Emperor. Once again, we can see that core Christian beliefs were not latecomers that were invented in the fourth century (or later), but appear to have been in place from the very beginning.

God’s Grace in the Obstacles We Face
When God places obstacles in our path, it is for our discipline and for our good. It is an act of love toward us as his children. Just as we withhold things from our own children that we know are bad for them, God does the same for us. But unlike us, God’s ways are holy, perfect, righteous, and just. If he withholds something from us or keep us from something, it is for our good. He knows that the things we pursue apart from him will never satisfy us. He knows that what we need is more of him, not for all our wishes to come true.
If the Lord Marks Iniquity, Who Should Stand?
In our day we have witnessed the eclipse of the gospel. That dark shadow that obscures the light of the gospel is not limited to Rome or liberal Protestantism; it looms heavily within the Evangelical community. The very phrase “preaching the gospel” has come to describe every form of preaching but the preaching of the gospel. The “New” gospel is one that worries not about sin. It feels no great need for justification. It readily dismisses the imputation of Christ’s righteousness as an essential need for salvation.
A “Repentant” Lance Armstrong “Would do it again!”
Yet, that’s what an allegedly “repentant” Lance Armstrong wants us to do. He deceived millions of people, told innumerable lies, stole titles from other cyclists, and made megabucks from books about his “miracle” come-back. But he now thinks he should be forgiven, and gives three reasons in this interview with the BBC:
Divine Mathematics of Salvation
Paul ties the everything together at the end of this letter when he explained that the Judaizers were seeking to avoid persecution for the cross of Christ, and were wanting to boast in the flesh (i.e. in human accomplishments). Put basically, it appears that the great error of the Judaizers was not merely seeking to add circumcision to the New Covenant people of God for salvation–it was adding anything the finished work of Jesus for salvation.
The Sin We Don’t Speak Of
In God’s eyes, sin is sin. No amount of human ordering changes that for him. We have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God (Rom. 3:23). This sin is the great equalizer before him. There are no sins that are beyond his reach for cleansing and there are no sins that make us any better or worse in his eyes. Without Christ, the verdict is the same–guilty.
A Word to Famous Pastors
You have been given a public platform. You occupy the stage of various conferences. You help lead national and perhaps international ministries. People listen to you when you speak and write. Those men who pastor 100 souls will be responsible for much. Some of you serve churches of multiplied thousands. You will give an account for those men and women. But there’s more. Because of your influence you will give account for the many who have downloaded your sermons and purchased your books. Are you ready to answer for the influence you have in the lives of men and women you will never meet?
Why the Prosperity Gospel Is the Worst Pyramid Scheme Ever
Don’t get me wrong: I believe wholeheartedly God wants to bless me. I believe God favors me. I believe he wants me to have the best possible life. But I also believe the good news of Jesus is far better than the prosperity gospel. The prosperity gospel climbs over people; Jesus descends to pick us up. The prosperity gospel oppresses the poor; Jesus identifies with the destitute. The prosperity gospel fuels our idol factories; Jesus smashes them with a vision of his glory.
Sheep And Goats, National Or Personal?
Q. I think I understand all the judgments as to when and where they will occur and who will be involved. However, I am having a problem determining exactly what is the judgment of the nations. Is it in conjunction with the Sheep and Goat judgment? Is it called the judgment of the nations because all the people living at the end of the Great Tribulation from their various nations will be called to this judgment? I know that whole nations, as well as individuals, have been judged by the way they have treated the Jewish people. Will whole nations be judged or just on an individual basis within these nations? Thank you for the time you spend answering our questions. It has certainly been a blessing to me.
How Many Trumpets Are There Before The Last One?
Q. Re: 1 Corinthians 15:51-53. Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed— in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality.
So when it says “at the last trump” how many trumpet sounds will there be before it, making it the last trump? No wonder Rosh Hashana is associated with the Rapture. continue reading
Am I Worthy To Serve?
Q. Perhaps you can advise me. I have carried a minister’s license for a lot of years, but have never used it to preach, although I am accused of being preachy. A lot of those years I have felt that I have been called to help spread the word. I currently reside in the Philippines and feel there is a need to fill and that I could fill it with the Holy Spirit guiding. The problem is I am a sinner. Not a terrible sinner. I was a lot worse but God has cleaned me up pretty well. Even so, I can’t seem to overcome the feeling of unworthiness because of the sins I still commit. I know where to find forgiveness for my weakness but still lack to courage to preach. Is this Satan working in me to stop me from sharing my blessings or am I just putting too much me in the equation? Your opinion would be appreciated.
Inability to atone for sin.
Mahatma Ghandi acknowledged the inability of his religion to atone for sin. Despite his moral lifestyle and good works, he admitted, “It is a constant torture to me that I am still so far from Him whom I know to be my very life and being. I know it is my own wretchedness and wickedness that keeps me from Him.” All works-based religions lead to futility and death. It is only in Jesus Christ that sinners can find forgiveness for their sins and deliverance from death and hell.
