As the nation starts paying closer attention to how Jeb Bush talks about education policy-already an Achilles heel for his potential presidential campaign-the former Florida governor is reaching into an old bag of tricks: attacking teachers’ unions, preaching tough love for “little Johnny” who can’t read by the third grade, and insisting that the federal government should have a limited role in setting education policy. The former Florida governor speaks at his second education conference in three months as he faces conservative’s criticism over his support for Common Core standards.
For more than a decade, U.S. law enforcement and intelligence agencies have labored to head off larger plots directed by terrorist groups based overseas. But the recent “lone-wolf” incidents, one or two attackers acting independently of global networks, didn’t trigger the post-Sept. 11 tripwires. That weakness is being exploited by Islamic radicals, who are increasingly encouraging home-grown extremists to act on their own when they get the chance. And law enforcement is concerned because they’re so hard to stop.
The number of Americans renouncing U.S. citizenship increased 37 percent in the three months through December and the annual total reached a record level. People giving up their nationality at U.S. embassies rose to 1,062 in the fourth quarter from 776 in the year-earlier period. The annual total reached 3,415 in 2014, from 3,000 in the year-earlier period.

Guess What Happened The Last Time The U.S. Dollar Skyrocketed In Value Like This?…
Over the past decade, there has been only one other time when the value of the U.S. dollar has increased by so much in such a short period of time. That was in mid-2008 – just before the greatest financial crash since the Great Depression. A surging U.S. dollar also greatly contributed to the Latin American debt crisis of the early 1980s and the Asian financial crisis of 1997. Today, the globe is more interconnected than ever. Most global trade is conducted in U.S. dollars, and much of the borrowing done by emerging markets all over the planet is denominated in U.S. dollars. When the U.S. dollar goes up dramatically, this can put a tremendous amount of financial stress on economies all around the world. It also has the potential to greatly threaten the stability of the 65 trillion dollars in derivatives that are directly tied to the value of the U.S. dollar. The global financial system is more vulnerable to currency movements than ever before, and history tells us that when the U.S. dollar soars the global economy tends to experience a contraction. So the fact that the U.S. dollar has been skyrocketing lately is a very, very bad sign. (Read More….)
American Aid Worker Kayla Mueller Killed at Hands of ISIS ‘Surrendered to God’ During Captivity, Drew Comfort From ‘Deep Christian Faith’
The United States confirmed on Tuesday that 26-year-old American aid worker Kayla Mueller has been killed at the hands of terror group ISIS. President Barack Obama said that Mueller represented what is “best about America,” while her family revealed that she drew comfort from her “deep Christian faith” while in captivity.

TOP 5 RIGHT HOOKS
In an recent interview with Vox, Barack Obama pontificated on the recent jihadi attacks in Paris, which he said was perpetrated by “a bunch of violent, vicious zealots who … randomly shoot a bunch of folks in a deli in Paris.” It was absurd to say the attack was “random” when the Muslim jihadis’ explicit motive was a killing Jews. Obama mouthpiece Josh Earnest struggled mightily to explain his boss’s comments: “The adverb that the president chose was used to indicate that the individuals who were killed in that terrible, tragic incident were killed not because of who they were but because of where they randomly happened to be.” He then told reporters, “There were people other than just Jews who were in that deli.” Earnest repeatedly denied the kosher status of the market had anything to do with the attack. What utterly asinine horse pucky. American cops are clearly racist, according to Obama, but Muslims couldn’t possibly target Jews on purpose. Obama and his underlings have a serious problem denying the role of Islam in the rise of terrorism on his watch. But perhaps even Obama’s cronies realized how ridiculous the whole episode was, later taking to Twitter to “clarify” things. “Our view has not changed,” Earnest tweeted. “Terror attack at Paris Kosher market was motivated by anti-Semitism. POTUS didn’t intend to suggest otherwise.” Somehow, we’re disinclined to believe that.
In other news, it is confirmed that ISIL’s American hostage Kayla Mueller was killed, though details have not yet been released. Obama swears he tried to rescue her, along with journalist James Foley.
According to David Axelrod’s memoir, Barack Obama once told his former adviser, “I’m just not very good at bulls—-ing.” We know; total BS. The subject matter was Obama’s political choice to feign support for traditional marriage during the 2008 campaign. Even Obama’s water carriers at Time magazine were dismayed: “Barack Obama misled Americans for his own political benefit.” Right, this just in. According to Axelrod, “Opposition to gay marriage was particularly strong in the black church, and as [Obama] ran for higher office, he grudgingly accepted the counsel of more pragmatic folks like me, and modified his position to support civil unions rather than marriage, which he would term a ‘sacred union.'” Obama even couched his lie in terms of his faith — “as a Christian…” he said. So he lied about his own faith and principles, but Axelrod says it’s a virtue that he was uncomfortable doing so. Obama then spent the next couple of years “evolving” on the issue so he could appear to have been persuaded by the evidence. Naturally, Obama claims he didn’t mislead voters, he just hadn’t come up with “a sufficient way of squaring the circle” of his personal beliefs and political reality. We don’t buy it. Such deceit on Obama’s part shouldn’t surprise anyone. He knows nothing but politics, and he uses every issue, including family and his supposed Christian faith, for his own political benefit.
Undeterred by their ignominious defeat in the midterm elections, Democrats are bound and determined to keep pushing a losing issue — gun control. Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT), who so thoroughly politicized the murders at Sandy Hook Elementary School, introduced a bill to ban all magazines capable of holding more than 10 rounds. He exploited a recent security crisis on Capitol Hill. Capitol Police claim to have foiled a planned mass murder in the halls of Congress. “Think of the damage that someone could do in the U.S. Capitol with 30 rounds,” Murphy warned. Because he says he hasn’t met “a single hunter or a single person who hunts for sport” who needs more than 10 rounds, he thinks none of us need that many. In fact, if we do, we’re “arming against the government.” That’s an interesting thing to say since the final straw for colonists who launched their bid for independence from Great Britain was Redcoats coming to confiscate ammo and arms. Just saying. More…
As part of Barack Obama’s new National Security Strategy, the administration identified a bogus threat: “Climate change is an urgent and growing threat to our national security, contributing to increased natural disasters, refugee flows, and conflicts over basic resources like food and water.” Asked about the rationale behind putting such emphasis on global warming while downplaying Islamic terrorism, White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said, “The point that the president is making is that there are many more people on an annual basis who have to confront the direct impact on their lives of climate change … than on terrorism.” Pressed to explain further, Earnest doubled down, saying, “When you talk about the direct daily impact, on the daily lives of Americans, particularly Americans living in this country … more people are directly affected by [climate change] than by terrorism.” Obama’s priorities are mixed up by design. Expand the government here, diminish U.S. standing abroad. Mission accomplished.
NBC News anchor Brian Williams lied repeatedly about his experience in Iraq, but also perhaps about other events in his career. Given this unsettling truth, NBC could no longer just ignore the problem. “We have decided today to suspend Brian Williams as Managing Editor and Anchor of NBC Nightly News for six months,” the network wrote Tuesday. “The suspension will be without pay and is effective immediately. … While on Nightly News on Friday, January 30, 2015, Brian misrepresented events which occurred while he was covering the Iraq War in 2003. It then became clear that on other occasions Brian had done the same while telling that story in other venues. This was wrong and completely inappropriate for someone in Brian’s position.” Of course, deceit is nothing new for the Leftmedia, but the Williams episode is really quite astonishing. And it will cost him about $5 million. In related news, Comedy Central’s Jon Stewart announced he will leave the “Daily Show,” so, if things don’t work out for Williams at NBC, maybe the two comics could simply swap roles. More…
Some Republican presidential hopefuls are singing songs that are music to conservative ears. The latest comes from Gov. Bobby Jindal of Louisiana, who along with Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) has released a research paper entitled “America Next.” The Republican pair promote major reforms to undo the government education catastrophe.
Jindal outlined his three-pronged reform plan beginning with an exquisitely apt analogy: “Would you trade your brand-new car for an Edsel? Or your iPhone for an antiquated mainframe computer the size of your living room?”
“[M]any American children,” says Jindal, “face a similar situation each day when they head to school.” They don’t receive a quality education due to “[a]rchaic obstacles — a tenure system first developed early in the last century, and an education bureaucracy in Washington created as part of the Great Society five decades ago.”
“Reform along the principles outlined in this paper,” reads the introduction, “will restore the balance in education toward parents and teachers, and away from the bureaucracies.”
The first objective is education choice — allowing parents to control their children’s schooling. Schools, most teachers and unions resist this idea with every tool at their disposal. Nevertheless, Jindal says money spent on education should “follow the child” rather than following bureaucrats’ demands. “No one cares more, and knows better, about children than the parents who bore and raised them.”
Put parents in charge, and schools must compete to retain children. Good public schools will become better and bad ones fail, while charter and other non-traditional schools thrive. While vocational courses have largely disappeared, these practical courses appeal to many high school students. The same holds for art and technology. Money directed by the parents will result in its being better spent.
More than 60% of staff in the average school district are not teachers. Though educationists want smaller classes, studies have shown that school size is much more important. With parents in charge, the number of small schools would grow dramatically, causing a proportional decline of non-teaching positions, thereby saving taxpayer money. One of the best-received parts of Jindal’s plan is educational savings accounts that give people with modest incomes a chance to send their kids to the best schools.
The second prong of the plan involves backing Big Government’s big nose out of neighborhood schools. Not so long ago, schools operated on a largely neighborhood model and performed far better. As late as the 1960s, a high school diploma was a ticket to the job market where the vast majority of adults established themselves in careers while their college friends were still in school.
But along came the “Great” Society, introducing frequent and ever deeper intrusions into states’ education systems. Federal dollars became the hook that kept schools on the line, and school quality decreased as spending increased. Now, addicted to federal money, schools are coerced into following federal mandates. “Common Core,” says Jindal, “represents Exhibit A of why federal control needs to revert back to states — and ultimately to local school boards wherever possible.” He also urges the reduction of government data collection, restoring student privacy rights and sharing more information with parents.
The third proposal involves “liberating teachers” by ending forced union membership, making evaluations more practical, giving principals more autonomy in running their schools, ending tenure and seniority, and restricting collective bargaining to salaries rather than petty complaints.
States generally require two years of education courses at an accredited college to earn a teaching credential. Yet education courses are notoriously easy and so full of socio-babble that many highly qualified individuals are driven away.
Jindal proposes “reforming training, preparation and certification requirements.” Training should be relevant and meaningful and should require fewer courses. Emphasis should be on preparation. “[We] should remove impediments to entry, but make permanent retention a tougher bar to achieve (referring to teacher tenure).” Teaching shouldn’t be a job that someone takes because there’s nothing else to do. Teaching should be a passion.
The plan concludes that we have “a moral imperative to provide a quality education to each child.” Yet as Jindal admits, these reforms face stiff opposition from unions and their alter egos, the Democrats.
Nevertheless, progress is occurring. Jindal highlights improvements in his own state of Louisiana, including the rising graduation rate in New Orleans and the plummeting number of failing schools. There are other positive signs as well: 10 states have no tenure, charter schools and homeschooling outperform public schools and earn more support every year, and parents finally recognize that schools are failing and want them fixed. If 2016 is good to conservatives, including the election of a conservative president, we just might see some of these reforms after all.
|Donetsk International Airport in December|
Ukraine is filled with the crack of Kalashnikovs and the roar of artillery, and the time is running out to find a peaceful solution that doesn’t embolden Russia.
Russian-backed rebels have pushed Ukrainian troops further east. Last week, the rebels drove government troops from the ruins that were once called the Donetsk International Airport, and heavy fighting continues.
European nations are working for peace. Germany and France have spearheaded the effort, with U.S. backing, trying to make the guns fall silent — the ones that were supposed to fall silent in September. The leaders of those countries jetted to Russia in the last few days to speak to Russian President Vladimir Putin. The talks will culminate with a meeting in Minsk today involving the leaders of Germany, France, Russia and Ukraine.
A violent game of thrones is not an option for German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who said, “I hope that we shall be able to solve this conflict by diplomatic means because I think by military means it cannot be solved.”
In the midst of it all, the United States is suggesting that, if the peace talks fall through, it will stop sending blankets and beans to the beleaguered Ukraine and start sending weapons, such as anti-tank ordinances. Those will be used against the same Russian tanks the Kremlin denies are even in the country.
Early this week, after meeting with Merkel, Barack Obama suggested a new strategy in dealing with Russia. He said, “If, in fact, diplomacy fails, what I’ve asked my team to do is to look at all options. And the possibility of lethal defensive weapons is one of those options that’s being examined. But I have not made a decision about that yet.”
At first blush, the news sounds promising — as if Obama has gotten his spine back and will finally bop the Great Bear on the nose. But not so fast. This is the same Obama who drew the “red line” for Syria and then backed away from his threat. And it’s the same Obama whom Putin has outmaneuvered for years. In short, Obama doesn’t have the spirit to win this showdown.
While Europe and America decide what to do with Putin, he visited Egypt and blamed NATO for the unrest in Ukraine, saying NATO was backing a “coup d’etat in Kiev.” It was part of a larger effort, he alleged, “to tear states which had been parts of the former USSR off Russia and to prompt them to make an artificial choice ‘between Russia and Europe.'”
Putin insists Ukraine is rightfully Russian territory he must control. An old Soviet propaganda poster shows a picture of the western part of USSR, with arteries stretching to the four corners of the country, all coming together at the heart of Russia’s industrial complex — what is now the Donetsk region of Ukraine.
Furthermore, Putin has rhetorically couched this fight in fascist terms. He isn’t fighting for the well-being of Russia. He’s not fighting for the tattered glory of USSR. No, Putin is fighting for “Novorossiya,” or the new Russia, a Russia that began with the Tsars and was only destroyed by the West and NATO a mere 20 years ago.
As for Obama, the Nobel Peace Prize winner just wants the two nations to stop fighting since Russia is, as he likes to say, on the wrong side of history.
In a phone call Tuesday, Obama demanded Putin agree to peace talks, or else more sanctions will come and eventually the U.S. might start funneling weapons to the conflict.
This is probably just a bluff, for Obama would have to show actual resolve if he starts giving RPGs to the Ukrainians. First, Putin and his thugs would be incensed. They would use the developments as a propaganda glut, which would likely escalate the violence in Ukraine. Second, the Ukrainian government is notoriously corrupt and security cannot come to that country without major reforms, reforms that are almost unfathomable in the face of Russian aggression.
But the results of this conflict will have far-reaching consequences for U.S. foreign policy and the relationship Russia has with the rest of the world. “This conflict will determine the future character of Russia — whether Moscow goes into a full revisionist swing or understands that the post-1991 order isn’t going to be reversed,” writes Ulrich Speck, visiting scholar at Carnegie Europe. “In other words, whether Russia will be a nation-state with borders or will aspire to be an empire with a center and a periphery, starting endless conflicts with its neighbors.”
In the end, Obama must decide what stand to take. He may talk tough, but his National Security Strategy is to achieve peace through weakness. That will fail — especially when the man fomenting the violence is one such as Putin.

OPINION IN BRIEF
Author Martin H. Fischer (1879-1962): “A machine has value only as it produces more than it consumes — so check your value to the community. ”
Columnist Michelle Malkin: “Before the nation’s Food Nanny guilt-trips you into ditching boxed dinners on a frazzled night, know this: The first lady profited from cheese dust before she was against it. … In June 2005, a few months after her husband was elected to the U.S. Senate, Mrs. Obama snagged a seat on the corporate board of directors of TreeHouse Foods Inc. Currying favor, the food-processing company put her on its audit and nominating and corporate governance committees despite her complete lack of experience or expertise. For her on-the-job training and the privilege of putting her name and face on their literature, the company forked over $45,000 in 2005 and $51,200 in 2006 to Mrs. Obama – as well as 7,500 TreeHouse stock options worth more than $72,000 for each year. Mrs. Obama raked in that easy money thanks to the worldwide conglomerate’s popular product line of powdered non-dairy creamers and sweeteners, hot and cold cereals, evil macaroni and cheese, skillet dinners, powdered gravy and sauce mixes, powdered drink mixes, powdered soup, and puddings. She certainly didn’t look down her nose at milk dust, cheese dust, juice dust, oatmeal dust or broth dust when it came mixed with a healthy paycheck..”
Economist Stephen Moore: “Mr. Obama proposed no funding next year for private school scholarship vouchers in the District of Columbia. The $20 million annual program, which began under George W. Bush, has proven extremely effective. Thousands of kids have benefited from these scholarships – which typically amount to about $8,000 to $10,000 a year. That’s still about one-third lower than what it costs to ‘educate’ students in the district’s public schools. Almost all students who get the money are blacks and Latinos. … Several years ago, when President Obama tried to shut down the program, black and Hispanic parents locked arms with Republicans in Congress who support the program and marched in front of the Capitol. That was an amazing optic. In the 1960s and 1970s, civil rights leaders and ‘community activists’ fought against laws that prevent blacks from getting in to the public schools. Now, liberals refuse to let them out. … Republicans must go on the offensive on school choice. A quality education is the best anti-poverty program ever invented. This is the best path to reducing income inequality. … Democrats are on the wrong side on this issue. They put unions ahead of kids. Let’s hope Republicans in Congress not only restore funding of this program but expand its budget so that every poor child in Washington, D.C., can get the education that Barack Obama’s daughters do.”
Comedian Jimmy Fallon: “According to a recent survey, 12 percent of Americans say that it’s fine to cheat a little on your taxes. While the other 88 percent know not to talk to a guy with a clipboard asking them if they cheat on their taxes.”

Canada Prospers, America Flounders…
The contrast between the two neighboring countries could not be starker, so what is the real reason for this?
Canada and the United States have a symbiotic relationship. Where one prospers, so should the other. Equally, where one falters, so the other should falter. Yet this is clearly not what is happening and the question needs to be asked, why? There are many reasons, obvious and subtle, but I believe that the primary reason is Israel.
Quite simply, Canada clearly and without hesitation supports Israel, the United States does not. This is an obvious working out of Genesis 12:3, “those who bless you, I will bless; those who curse you, I will curse…”
Obama’s Internet Power Grab
The secret plan to regulate the web.
In a completely unsurprising development, one of the two Republican Commissioners on the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has made it clear the Obama administration’s effort to regulate the Internet is nothing more than another government power grab. “President Obama’s plan marks a monumental shift toward government control of the Internet,” said a statement released by commissioner Ajit Pai. “It gives the FCC the power to micromanage virtually every aspect of how the Internet works.

Congress Finally To Investigate Holder’s Bank Shakedown Settlements
Well, it’s about time.
Truly this administration has charted a bizarre path with regard to the big banks. One day Wall Street and the White House are buddies. The next day the banks are portrayed as villains. It’s been a bizarre tango of money, power, and domestic realpolitik.

Justice Thomas objects to court’s signal on gay “marriage”

According to My Way:
The Supreme Court is inappropriately signaling it intends to clear the way for gay marriage across the nation, Justice Clarence Thomas complained Monday in a stinging dissent to the court’s refusal to block the start of same-sex marriages in Alabama.
Bitterly objecting to Monday’s action, Thomas provided a rare insider’s perspective on the widely held view that the court’s embrace of gay marriage is a done deal.
Katy Perry claims God spoke to her before Super Bowl performance
by Marsha West
Former gospel singer Katy Perry has made it clear that she is not a Christian. She once declared, “I’m not Buddhist, I’m not Hindu, I’m not Christian, but I still feel like I have a deep connection with God.” The “higher power” she says she believes in allegedly spoke to her before her Super Bowl performance. According to Christian Headlines:
She told E! News’ Ryan Seacrest, “It’s funny, I was praying and I got a word from God and He says, ‘You got this and I got you.’ And then I was on top of the lion and a guy, a random guy, just looked on me with a headset that I’ve never communicated with before and he just looked me straight in the eyes and said, ‘You got this.’ And I was like, ‘Oh, this is God confirming I can do this.”

The Federal Election Commission (FEC) is holding a hearing today to receive public feedback on whether it should create new rules regulating political speech, including political speech on the Internet that one commissioner warned could affect blogs, YouTube videos and even websites like the Drudge Report. The hearing is a response to the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling in McCutcheon v. FEC last year, which struck down the FEC’s previous cap on aggregate campaign contributions from a single donor in an election cycle. Before the decision, individuals were limited to a combined total of $46,200 in contributions to all federal candidates, and $70,800 to federal political action committees and parties. Individuals are no longer restricted by aggregate limits, which Chief Justice John Roberts said “intrude without justification on a citizen’s ability to exercise ‘the most fundamental First Amendment activities’.” They may now “contribute up to $2,600 per election to a federal candidate, $10,000 per calendar year to a state party committee, $32,400 per calendar year to a national party committee, and $5,000 per calendar year to a PAC [political action committee],” according to the FEC. The commission, which consists of three Republican and three Democratic members, last considered such regulations in 2005. However, intense opposition from First Amendment groups resulted in rules that were limited to paid advertisements from political campaigns, parties, and PACs. This time around, organizations like the Electronic Frontier Foundation have warned that some Democrats on the commission would like to impose much more burdensome regulations that could serve as the equivalent of spending caps in restricting political speech. Last October, FEC Chairwoman Ann Ravel issued a statement in which she complained that the agency was not doing enough to monitor activity on the Internet. “Some of my colleagues seem to believe that the same political message that would require disclosure if run on television should be categorically exempt from the same requirements when placed on the Internet alone. As a matter of policy, this simply does not make sense,” Ravel said. MORE

|World Leader Appears From Nowhere And Takes Control Of GreecePosted: 11 Feb 2015 08:26 AM PST
A MAN HAS COME ON THE INTERNATIONAL SCENE, AND MANY WHO KNOW THE LORD JESUS CHRIST AS THEIR SAVIOR, ARE TAKING A HARD LOOK AT HIM.
“And the beast which I saw was like unto a leopard, and his feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion: and the dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority.” Revelation 13:2 (KJV)
His name is Alexis Tsipras, and it seems that he meets much of the criteria of the prophesied Antichrist. He was just elected as the Prime Minister of Greece. He is an atheist and a far left winger. His party in Greece is called SYRIZA. He has appeared out of nowhere in the last couple of years, almost magically. He has landed himself in a most precarious situation. Greece is broken. Is he the one to fix it, and also the EU which is struggling and groping at almost anything the revive Europe? All eyes on on this man.
On Sept 17, 2014 Mr. Tsipras met with Pope Francis at the Vatican. He was the first leader of a left-wing party that met the head of the Roman-Catholic church–ever. This is not surprising with this Pope, because he is rabidly ecumenical, and very “Green”, always talking about global warming and people harming the earth. It has been said that Tsipras and the Pope get along famously, and are in one accord. No problem that one claims to be the head of the “faithful” on this earth, and the other, a staunch atheist. Could it be that there are unseen circumstances, not being divulged to the public? I would say, assuredly so.
Terry James of Rapture Ready wrote a piece on the possibility of this man being the Antichrist, but he made strong point at the beginning of the piece, telling Christians that we should be looking for the glorious appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ to Rapture His church from this earth.
Here are two excerpts from Terry James article on “Nearing Midnight”

|Coldest air of winter to roar into central, eastern U.S.Posted: 11 Feb 2015 08:20 AM PST
Two punishing blasts of arctic air will bring the coldest temperatures of this winter to the eastern half of the USA just in time for Valentine’s Day and Presidents’ Day weekend. High temperatures will make it only into the single digits and teens in major cities including Minneapolis, Chicago, Detroit, Pittsburgh and Boston by week’s end, AccuWeather predicts. Overall, temperatures will be about 20 degrees below average for much of the central and eastern U.S. While beleaguered New England will see two rounds of snow — on Thursday and Saturday — precipitation won’t significantly impact most areas affected by the arctic blast. By early Thursday, the first arctic plunge will move into the Midwest and Ohio Valley and will reach the East Coast late Thursday before making it all the way to the Gulf Coast and Florida by Friday, WeatherBug meteorologist Andrew Rosenthal said.
Howling winds will only add to the misery. “The combination of frigid air will not only be painful to endure for short periods of time outdoors but can bring life-threatening conditions for those not properly dressed,” said AccuWeather meteorologist Brian Lada. The bitter cold will reach down into the Deep South, where highs may reach only the 30s. A second shot of even colder air will spread across the eastern U.S. by Sunday and into Monday. New York City may shiver through its coldest day in over two decades Sunday, said Weather Channel meteorologist Nick Wiltgen. Daily record lows will be threatened both Sunday and Monday mornings in parts of the Northeast, Southeast and Great Lakes as the reinforcing cold blast plunges south, the Weather Channel said. The air will get cold enough in central and northern Florida to bring the risk of damage to unprotected sensitive fruits and vegetables, AccuWeather predicts. Frost and freezes are possible as far south as Orlando by Monday morning, according to WeatherBell meteorologist Ryan Maue. More

|Obama: ‘We have to twist arms when countries don’t do what we need them to’Posted: 11 Feb 2015 08:00 AM PST
President Barack Obama has said the reality of “American leadership” at times entails “twisting the arms” of states which “don’t do what we need them to do,” and that the US relied on its military strength and other leverage to achieve its goals. In a broad-ranging interview with Vox, which Obama himself described as a venue “for the brainiac-nerd types,” the US president both denied the efficacy of a purely “realist” foreign policy but also arguing that at times the US, which has a defense budget that exceeds the next 10 countries combined, needed to rely on its military muscle and other levers of power. Lauding the rule-based system to emerge in the post-World War II era, Obama admitted it wasn’t perfect, but argued “the UN, the IMF, and a whole host of treaties and rules and norms that were established really helped to stabilize the world in ways that it wouldn’t otherwise be.” He argued, however, that the efficacy of this idealistic, Wilsonian, rule-based system was severely tested by the fact that “there are bad people out there who are trying to do us harm.” In the president’s view, the reality of those threats has compelled the US to have “the strongest military in the world.” Obama further says that “we occasionally have to twist the arms of countries that wouldn’t do what we need them to do if it weren’t for the various economic or diplomatic or, in some cases, military leverage that we had — if we didn’t have that dose of realism, we wouldn’t get anything done, either.” Obama argues that the US doesn’t have “military solutions” to all the challenges in the modern world, though he goes on to add that “we don’t have a peer” in terms of states that could attack or provoke the United States. “The closest we have, obviously, is Russia, with its nuclear arsenal, but generally speaking they can’t project the way we can around the world. China can’t, either. We spend more on our military than the next 10 countries combined,” he said. Within this context, Obama said that “disorder” stemming from “failed states” and “asymmetric threats from terrorist organizations” were the biggest challenges facing the international community today. Obama also argued that tackling these and other problems entailed “leveraging other countries” and “other resources” whenever possible, while also recognizing that Washington is “the lead partner because we have capabilities that other folks don’t have.” Full Story

|Pentagon deploys A-10 attack jets, 300 pilots to Germany amid Ukraine turmoilPosted: 11 Feb 2015 07:55 AM PST
The US Air Force dispatched a dozen A-10 Thunderbolt II attack jets and about 300 airmen to Germany as part of a military exercise, which is expected to involve NATO allies in Eastern Europe amid simmering tensions over Ukraine. The Cold War-era aircraft, nicknamed the Warthog, on Monday departed Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Arizona for Spangdahlem Air Base in Germany as part of Operation Atlantic Resolve. Lt. Col. Christopher Karns, a spokesman for the Air Force at the Pentagon, said the aircraft would“forward-deploy” to sites in Eastern European NATO states, where the units will participate in training with allied forces to “strengthen interoperability and…demonstrate US commitment to the security and stability of Europe,” he told military.com. The highly reliable A-10 carries a seven-barrel GAU-8/A Avenger Gatling gun that fires 30mm rounds designed to destroy tanks and other armored combat vehicles. The deployment comes as the US House of Representatives introduced legislation authorizing $1 billion in military aid to Ukraine through 2017. If authorized, the package would allow the Pentagon to provide to the Ukraine military “training equipment, lethal weapons of a defensive nature, logistics support, supplies and services.” The provisions of the bill, according to its authors, are designed to protect Ukraine’s “sovereign territory against foreign aggressors,” and defend Ukrainians from attacks by “Russian-backed separatists.” Russia said Tuesday that Washington’s plans to supply Kiev with weapons would further destabilize the situation in Ukraine. Western governments, without finding it necessary to substantiate their claims with physical evidence, continue to accuse Russia of supporting rebels in Eastern Ukraine blaming the crisis on Russia. Moscow has vehemently rejected the claims. At the same time, Moscow is regularly on the receiving end of criticism from Washington even when it holds military exercises on its own territory. In February of last year, as Ukraine was engulfed in chaos not far from Russia’s border, the White House expressed concern that the Russian military held drills. “[W]e are closely watching Russia’s military exercises along the Ukrainian border,” White House spokesman Jay Carney stated. |How Fast Would Contagion Spread If Greece Exits The EurozonePosted: 11 Feb 2015 07:49 AM PST
Perhaps the most curious aspect of this, third, Greece “”exit crisis, is just how completely unnoticed it has gone by the capital “markets”, or rather non-Greek capital markets. Which, considering the changed dynamics of the negotiations, was to be expected. As explained again earlier, this time around it is imperative on the central planning regime to keep stocks and bonds as stable as possible heading into tomorrow’s negotiations with Greece, because should global risk not bat an eyelid, it will mean that Greek leverage is non-existent as the “market” (which courtesy of central banks no longer really exists) does not anticipate any contagion, and is why the S&P has actually been surging in the past week.
There are two problems with this, as UBS laid out yesterday: 1) (lack of) risk no longer reflecting reality doesn’t make sense and 2) “Breaking the deadlock” in negotiations voluntarily may not be easy, “hence, outside pressure—in the form of financial and market dislocations—seems necessary to focus minds.” However, as we noted yesterday, point 2 is only relevant for Europe: Syriza, and largely Greece, no longer cares what the stock market does: only the Eurozone does (and as long as the ECB is there to backstop it in any case, the European “market” isn’t going anywhere). If anything, the only concern of the Greeks is what happens to bank deposits, although by this point anyone who would have pulled their money from the bank already has.
Which means that once again, thanks to central bank intervention, the discounting process is broken, and has been skewed to reach a specific political outcome. However, in the worst case scenario – one in which Greece does exit the Eurozone – it will simply mean that the moment of reality has been at best postponed. And the moment when the can kicking ends and reality can no longer be avoided is the millisecond after Greece announces it has quit the Eurozone. What happens then is why UBS has dedicated an entire section to the contagion risk which is now being thoroughly masked by central bank intervention, and which will only emerge, and with a vengeance, if the worst case does indeed transpire. Needless to say, when it emerges it will be fast. More

|Which countries seek to censor their citizens on Twitter and Facebook?Posted: 11 Feb 2015 07:44 AM PST
Government requests for Twitter users’ account information have increased by 40 per cent around the world, the company has said in its latest transparency report. The microblogging website’s set of data for the last six months of 2014 indicates a growing trend for governments to request user information. Twitter said four new countries – Belize, El Salvador, Kenya, and Russia – made requests, bringing the total to 58 countries making requests. In addition, between July 1 and December 31, Twitter reported an 84 per cent increase in global government and government-sanctioned demands to remove content. Turkey’s police, courts and government agencies made the most content removal requests – 477 in total, up from 186 in the first half of 2014. Russia made 91 requests and Germany came in third with 43 requests. The worrying trend in Turkey comes after Facebook followed a court order in the Turkish capital, Ankara, to remove pages in the country depicting the Prophet Mohammed. Facebook’s latest data for the first six months of 2014 shows only India has made more content restrictions than Turkey, as the chart below shows. Jeremy Kessel, global legal policy senior manager, explained in a blog post that requests from Turkey “generally focused on claimed violations of personal rights (such as defamation) of both private citizens and government officials”. |CNBC Anchors Stunned: ‘There is No Economic Recovery’Posted: 11 Feb 2015 07:25 AM PST
Ricchiuto, Managing Director of Mizuho Securities USA, left anchors Simon Hobbs and Sara Eisen scrambling for words as he reeled off a barrage of factors as to why there is no acceleration in economic activity. The highlights;
“There is no acceleration in underlying economic activity.” “There’s this wrong concept that I keep on hearing about in the financial press about the acceleration in economic growth… It isn’t happening!” “We had a horrible retail sales number, we had a horrible durable goods number, we’re likely to have a very disappointing retail sales number coming forward, this month we have a strong payroll number we say everything’s great – it’s not great….it’s been the same thing for the last five years, there’s no improvement in the economy!” “After a string of dismal data on durable goods, retail spending, and inventories, we get a good jobs number and everyone saying the economy’s good – it’s not good!” “And we can keep on going,” Ricchiuto responded when Hobbs interrupted him. According to Zero Hedge, the clip was also edited to remove host Eisen’s glib response to Ricchiuto’s sobering reality check on the real economic figures. “But the key is that’s not what The Fed is telling us,” she stated. So according to the financial “experts” at CNBC, actual economic numbers are less important than placing blind faith what the Federal Reserve claims is happening in its press releases. Is it really any surprise that CNBC is hemorrhaging viewers because of a lack of transparency and a complete failure to question the Federal Reserve’s monetary policy? INFO WARS

|PROPHECY WATCH – Arab-Israeli peace initiative is the only wayPosted: 10 Feb 2015 09:42 PM PST
Israel’s citizens have been living for decades in an abnormal reality of wars, rounds of fighting and terror attacks. Now we must continue fighting terror and defending the citizens, but at the same time we must also initiate a diplomatic move with the objective of reaching peace, thereby changing the situation from its foundation. Without a peace initiative, our situation will increasingly deteriorate. The fighting and violence will continue, the international pressure for the establishment of a bi-national state will grow, and our isolation process will deepen. The tensions with the United States and European countries will even reduce our influence on the negotiations over the Iranian nuclear program – the biggest danger we are facing. The framework for the peace process should be composed of the “Arab peace initiative” combined with an Israeli peace initiative. According to the Arab initiative, the Arab states will declare that peace is their strategic choice and acknowledge that there is no military solution to the conflict. Israel, on its part, will be required to withdraw to the 1967 lines with agreed upon border amendments. The refugee issue will be solved through an agreement too, and the capital of the Palestinian state will be East Jerusalem. This is an opportunity we must not miss out on, a development whose importance cannot be overstated. Fifty-seven Muslim states are willing to sign peace agreements with Israel. Regional negotiations in order to solve the conflict are a creative idea which will allow regional cooperation in the fields of economy and security, with the Palestinian channel being a leading axis. The moderate Arab states will be able to stimulate the Palestinians to adopt a pragmatic approach for solving the disputed issues. Full Story

|Guess What Happened The Last Time The U.S. Dollar Skyrocketed In Value Like This?Posted: 10 Feb 2015 09:20 PM PST
More

Gender Blending For Boys Is Now In Vogue As Male Dresses Hit The Runway
Suddenly the whole world is unisex. Or is it androgynous? Transitioning?
This is not satire, though it looks like it should be. Major fashion designers, since 2013, have been pushing men’s styles clearly into the female column. It’s called “gender blending” but it’s ultimate effect is more of a transvestite nature than anything else. When you first see this, it’s funny. Really funny. Then after you think about it for awhile it’s just sad. Really, really sad.
Ah…life in the end times.
Another champion of men in dresses, London designer Jonathan Anderson has been a force for gender blending for several seasons with his J.W. Anderson label. Quieter than Westwood, though no less radical, Anderson effectively channels the shock of seeing a flouncy mini-skirt on a man’s albeit ectomorphic body on the runway — enough to catch the attention of LVMH, who’ve installed him at the helm of the Spanish label Loewe. source
Bustiers (yes for boys) came with pockets in-built and were worn like muffs, while pinstripe trousers boasted oversized and outer pockets that spilled from the waist. Torsos were shown off to tight effect through body-hugging knits, which later boasted white picket fence and scissor emblems.
Fluffy coats in pastel shades and leather pleat-skirt tunics further explored Anderson’s “examination of bourgeois kinkyness and boudoir perversity”, as the show notes summed up. source

Left Behind Christians?
Q. I hear all the time that some Christians will miss out on the Rapture and be left behind. Can you tell us who are these Christians? On a scale of 1-10, where is the cut-off? Do I need to be a 10, and never sin to go? Does scripture paint this picture in your opinion?
Saving Them From Hell?
Q. According to 2 Samuel 12:18-23 When David’s baby son died, he didn’t mourn but went back to his normal routine. When asked about it he said, “I will go to him but he will not return to me.” He meant he would see his son in heaven. Why don’t abortion providers use this to claim they’re actually saving most of the babies they abort from growing up and going to Hell by sending them straight to Heaven?
What’s A Christian World View?
Q. In many of your articles I have seen you speak of a “Christian World View” and how few Christians hold such a view. Could you please define it for us? I feel that it is looking at the world through the Bible and it’s prophecies, looking at what is happening in the world news and relating it to prophecy and living in anticipation of what Jesus said would happen in the end times in which we are living. Am I close?
