Were Chapel Hill Murders a ‘Hate Crime’?

Disturbing news out of Chapel Hill, North Carolina: The New York Daily News reports, “Deah Shaddy Barakat, 23, a graduate student at UNC-Chapel Hill, his wife Yusor Mohammad Abu-Salha, 21, and her sister, Razan Mohammad Abu-Salha, 19, were all found shot to death in a condo near the campus late Tuesday afternoon. Neighbor Craig Stephen Hicks, a vehement 46-year-old self-professed atheist, surrendered to police and has been charged in the triple homicide.” Naturally, the Left’s early storyline is that, because the victims were Muslims, this was a “hate crime” inspired by “American Sniper,” the NRA and Fox News. We’d argue that any time a human being is murdered it’s a hate crime — murder isn’t committed out of love. Religion absolutely motivates some murderers, but, as Barack Obama clearly illustrated recently, for leftists, it’s a one-way street. As for Hicks, he is a leftist who intensely hates all religion, and police say he committed murder over a parking dispute. Kind of undermines the Left’s narrative, doesn’t it? More…

Judge Strikes Down Ban on Interstate Sale of Handguns

Magic happens when the courts start to interpret the Second Amendment using strict scrutiny, which holds the government to the highest standards in justifying laws. Missouri applied this level when it reformed its gun laws in August. Now, a Texas judge ruled the government’s requirement that a citizen purchasing a handgun must do so from an FFL dealer in their residing state violates the Constitution. This was challenged last June, when DC residents Andrew and Tracey Hanson tried to buy a handgun in Texas. In the decision, Judge Reed O’Connor wrote, “The federal interstate handgun transfer ban is unique compared to other firearms restrictions because it does not target certain people (such as felons or the mentally ill), conduct (such as carrying firearms into government buildings or schools), or distinctions among certain classes of firearms (such as fully automatic weapons or magazine capacity). Instead, the federal interstate handgun transfer ban targets the entire national market of handgun sales and directly burdens law-abiding, responsible citizens who seek to complete otherwise lawful transactions for handguns.” This further cement’s AG Eric Holder’s failure to do anything with gun control. Congress Sends Keystone Legislation to Obama

Cue Barack Obama’s veto pen of doom. In a 270 to 152 vote Wednesday, the House sent a bill authorizing the construction of the Keystone XL pipeline to Obama’s desk. The president has warned he would veto the bill because he claims his administration hasn’t had enough time to review the environmental ramifications of the project. And while Obama’s arguments that a congressional authorization violates the separation of powers is rich, coming from the phone ‘n’ pen president, the real reason is that Obama wants to follow the bidding of his Environmental Protection Agency. On the House floor, Rep. Mike Kelly (R-PA) told the chamber, “This is the most federally reviewed pipeline in American history. This is an American issue. Majority of the American people support this. … It’s way past time to say yes.” Unfortunately, when Obama vetoes, Congress doesn’t have the votes to override his veto. This may be the first veto of many from the newly minted president of no. More…

Boehner to Democrats: ‘Get Off Your A–‘

Now that the House has passed a measure to fund the Department of Homeland Security but block Barack Obama’s executive amnesty, Speaker John Boehner had a short but stern message for Democrat obstructionists who are threatening to prevent its passage in the Senate: “The House has done its job. Why don’t you go ask the Senate Democrats when they are going to get off their a– and do something?” In order to pass, the bill needs the support of 60 senators — a feat that is looking unlikely. “Apparently,” said Rep. John Fleming (R-LA), “the strategy now with the Democrat minority is to block everything over there.” And here the Leftmedia has been telling us that Republicans are the “party of no.”

In other news, while Congress dithers, America has imported two immigrants for every job created since 2000.

Cease-Fire in Ukraine May Only Be Temporary Peace

As the Gipper once said, “Trust, but verify.” After a night of talks, France, Germany, Russia and Ukraine worked out a cease-fire agreement that is supposed to take effect this Sunday. For months, Russian President Vladimir Putin has waged a proxy invasion in Ukraine because the country used to be the prized territory of the Soviet Empire. And while the violence that has claimed more than 5,300 lives is set to end, the future is still uncertain for Ukraine. Separatists — proxy Russian troops — made territorial gains since the last cease-fire in September quickly disintegrated. Furthermore, Hot Air’s Jazz Shaw writes, “There are a few things which hold me back from too much optimism here and the first one can be summed up in two words: Vladimir Putin. Any deal with Putin relies on the credibility of his word. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me 7,259 times, fire me and get a new negotiator.” In short, Putin wants this territory. He’s going to grasp for it, using troops or statecraft. More…

The Ambivalent Authorization to Avoid Fighting ISIL

Barack Obama submitted to Congress his request for an Authorization for Use of Military Force (AUMF) against the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant on Wednesday. It’s so pathetic and restricted, however, it should be called the Authorization to Avoid Using Force at All Costs.

For the last six months, the Nobel Peace Prize winner has unilaterally justified limited airstrikes against ISIL (Jihadistan) as an extension of George W. Bush’s 2001 AUMF against al-Qaida and his 2002 AUMF against Iraq. But Obama’s new AUMF will repeal the 2002 one. His proposal bars any “enduring offensive combat operations” (using the word “enduring” is clearly a slap at Bush) and it expires after three years. We thought he was bad with senseless timetables before — now he’s setting them before he even gets started.

Obama has done nothing but burn bridges with Republicans, so it isn’t surprising to see resistance from the GOP-controlled Congress, especially that Obama’s AUMF doesn’t go nearly far enough. Naturally, it goes too far for Democrats, who aren’t willing to blindly follow their leader after he led them to a virtual bloodbath in the midterm elections. Besides, they’ve spent too much political energy since 2003 opposing “Bush’s wars” to eagerly defend this one.

“I have directed a comprehensive and sustained strategy to degrade and defeat ISIL,” Obama wrote in a letter to Congress, saying his AUMF was needed to “show the world we are united in our resolve to counter the threat posed by ISIL.” His attempts to show “resolve” — going so far as to name the airstrikes “Operation Inherent Resolve” — are classic propaganda. His only resolve is to avoid putting too many boots on the ground (never mind the boots in the air), and to hinder his successor with a three-year time limit.

It’s clear to friend and foe alike that Obama’s National Security Strategy is one of weakness. To illustrate that, consider some of the results of Obama’s resolve:

  • Libya is in a state of total anarchy after Obama helped remove Moammar Gadhafi from power with no succession plan. We need only mention Benghazi to illustrate the consequences of that decision.
  • Egypt succumbed for a time to the Muslim Brotherhood after Obama cast aside our imperfect ally Hosni Mubarak. This week, Egypt made a nuclear reactor deal with Russia, building a cozy relationship that won’t benefit the U.S.
  • Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad remains in power after Obama declined to enforce his brash red line regarding chemical weapons. Obama asked for an AUMF to attack Assad in 2013, but it wasn’t long before he ultimately abandoned the idea. Now, 20,000 jihadis are pouring into Syria to join ISIL and Obama is sharing airstrike intelligence with Assad through third parties.
  • Remember when Obama pointed to Yemen as a success story in his foreign policy? Yeah, about that… Just last week, Iranian-backed Houthi rebels completed their takeover of Yemen’s pro-American government, and the U.S., Britain and France are closing embassies. ISIL has gained a foothold there, as well.
  • Three Americans captured by ISIL — James Foley, Steven Sutloff and Kayla Mueller — were killed despite Obama’s rescue attempt. That’s at least partially because he delayed acting on intelligence regarding their whereabouts for at least a month and maybe as long as four months.
  • U.S. relations with Israel have never been worse. Obama sent campaign henchmen to defeat Benjamin Netanyahu in his upcoming election, and Obama plans to snub the Israeli leader in his upcoming visit to DC.
  • Oh, and there’s the minor detail that Obama’s decision to wash his hands of Iraq and pull all U.S. troops out created the vacuum currently occupied by ISIL. Previously known as the “JV team,” Obama now says ISIL “poses a grave threat to the people and territorial integrity of Iraq and Syria, regional stability, in the national security interests of the United States and its allies and partners.”

So how resolved is Obama this time?

His spokesman, Josh Earnest agreed with CNN’s Jim Acosta, who called the AUMF language “intentionally fuzzy.” But Earnest explained that’s “because we believe it’s important that there aren’t overly burdensome constraints that are placed on the commander in chief, who needs the flexibility to be able to respond to contingencies that emerge in a chaotic military conflict like this.”

Obama himself described it as not too hot and not too cold, but just right. “This resolution strikes the necessary balance by giving us the flexibility we need for unforeseen circumstances,” he said.

That’s Obama-speak for he wins both ways. If the AUMF is granted, then he’ll use it to justify anything and everything. If not, then he’ll blame Republicans frequently and loudly that his hands are tied.

To obfuscate his weakness, he started talking tough: “Our coalition is on the offensive, ISIL is on the defensive, and ISIL is going to lose. … With our allies and partners we are going to degrade and ultimately destroy this terrorist group.”

Except he doesn’t have the resolve to do whatever it takes. The U.S. “should not get dragged back into another prolonged ground war in the Middle East,” he declared. “The resolution we’ve submitted … does not call for the deployment of U.S. ground combat forces to Iraq or Syria. It is not the authorization of another ground war, like Afghanistan or Iraq.” As we’ve noted before, Obama’s foreign policy goal is to not be George W. Bush. But for those of us with family members who are active duty military, his ineptitude is a deeply personal offense.

This authorization is nothing but political cover. Obama already has the authority to fight ISIL — a grave and not random threat — but this latest move proves he simply doesn’t want to. If Congress does anything, it should be to pass an unlimited authorization that gives Obama no excuse or cover.

A Blow to Illinois Unions Is a Win for Jobs

While it’s debatable whether anything politically good can come out of Chicago, something good came out of the Illinois state capital of Springfield this week. In a blow to the state’s bloated government unions, newly elected Republican Governor Bruce Rauner signed an executive order Monday allowing state workers to opt out of paying union dues.

At issue is Illinois’ lack of a “right to work” law, meaning workers can be required to pay either union dues or fees as a condition of employment. As a result, most government employees in Illinois have to dish out part of their paycheck to a union as a condition of getting that paycheck. And even those who refuse to join a union are required to pay “fair share” dues. After all, they “benefit” from union contracts.

Citing First Amendment protections of freedom of speech and association, however, Rauner took issue with this practice, saying compulsory payments to unions require some workers to “subsidize and enable union activities that they do not support,” and he ordered the state “to immediately cease enforcement of the Fair Share Contract Provisions.”

Naturally, unions aren’t taking this well. According to the state’s largest public union, “The governor’s proposal to bar public employees from participating in our democracy would further tilt a playing field weighted heavily in favor of big business and the wealthy.” Of course, participatory democracy has nothing to do with this. Instead, unions are downright petrified they’re going to lose their money.

Public unions play leading roles in the Prairie State’s corruption drama. While collecting forced dues from government workers, unions use the dough to lobby the government for more pay and benefits in a relationship Investor’s Business Daily aptly terms “incestuous.” In fact, The Heritage Foundation’s James Sherk notes, “State employees in Illinois make 26 percent more than comparable private sector workers. They enjoy particularly generous retirement benefits.”

Meanwhile, the state’s pension system is the most underfunded in the country, and taxpayers are squeezed, dishing out the second-highest property taxes in the nation in a failed attempt to fund it all.

But it gets even better. To grease the skids, public unions donate heavily to lawmakers’ re-election campaigns, meaning legislators have little impetus to fight union demands. The Illinois Policy Institute reports that between 2002 and 2014, a whopping 86% of state legislators received campaign contributions from government unions, including more than $1 million that went to the state speaker of the house — who also happens to be chairman of the Democrat Party of Illinois.

Of course, this dance doesn’t benefit Illinois residents, who bear the financial brunt of paying for the ongoing rendezvous. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the state’s economic situation is downright abysmal. While nationwide employment growth from 2003 to 2014 was 7.3%, in Illinois, it was 0.2%. And the state ranks consistently low in business climate, too.

Still, unions aren’t going to take this blow lying down. But proving he’s no dummy, Rauner coupled his executive order with a preemptive lawsuit asking a federal district court to uphold the order. There is precedent, too. In the 2014 Supreme Court case of Harris vs. Quinn, the Court raised the question of whether forced payment of union dues is constitutional.

At the very least, however, Illinois’ public unions are now on the defensive and scrambling to keep the money and power that are their raison d’être. If Rauner’s actions are any indication, though, unions are fighting a losing battle.

Japanese poet Matsuo Basho (1644-1694): “Do not seek to follow in the footsteps of the wise. Seek what they sought.”

Historian Victor Davis Hanson: “What are the consequences of lying about or exaggerating one’s past or stealing the written work of others? It depends. Punishment is calibrated by the stature of the perpetrator. If the offender is powerful, then misremembering, misstating and misconstruing are considered minor and aberrant transgressions. If not, the sins are called lying and plagiarizing, and deemed a window into a bad soul. Thus a career can be derailed. … Contemporary postmodern thought sees the ‘truth’ as a construct. The social aim of these fantasy narratives is what counts. If they serve progressive race, class and gender issues, then why follow the quaint rules of evidence that were established by an ossified and reactionary establishment? … The Greek word for truth was ‘aletheia’ — literally ‘not forgetting.’ Yet that ancient idea of eternal differences between truth and myth is now lost in the modern age. Our lies become accepted as true, but only depending on how powerful and influential we are – or how supposedly noble the cause for which we lie.”

FRC president Tony Perkins: “Although it was no secret to anyone who followed Obama’s early career, the candidate-and-later-President was fully on board with same-sex ‘marriage’ from Day 1. Before he was an Illinois senator, the up-and-coming Democrat was clear on a questionnaire about where he stood — only to change his position when it wasn’t politically advantageous. Now, Axelrod is forcing the President out of the closet on his motivations, saying that he deliberately compromised just to advance his career. ‘If Obama’s views were ‘evolving’ publicly,’ they were fully evolved behind closed doors,’ David wrote. … From Benghazi, taxpayer-funded abortion, and ObamaCare to Fast and Furious, religious liberty, and executive authority, it’s become more difficult to find instances when the President has told the truth. The facts are such a foreign concept in this White House that even left-leaning PolitiFact has logged more than four pages of lies from this President. And we wonder why the American people are so cynical about politics! In this case, the President’s ‘evolution’ was a not-so-intelligent design.”

Humorist Frank J. Fleming: “They say if you can reach the end of a rainbow, you’ll find a pot of settled science. I remember when science was something other than just a fetish of dumb people.”

JUDGE RUTH: Americans ready for gay marriage

JUDGE RUTH: Americans ready for gay marriageAmericans are prepared to accept a U.S. Supreme Court ruling legalizing same-sex marriage, Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg said, pointing to what she described as a sweeping change in attitudes toward gays. In an interview Wednesday in the court’s oak-paneled east conference room, Ginsburg also said President Barack Obama’s health-care law, which is under attack in a case before the Supreme Court next month, will be a central part of his legacy. The 81-year-old justice discussed the public’s increasing acceptance of gays against the backdrop of resistance by Alabama officials to a federal court order that took effect Monday and made it the 37th gay-marriage state. With the high court set to rule on the issue by June, she said it “would not take a large adjustment” for Americans should the justices say that gay marriage is a constitutional right.

“The change in people’s attitudes on that issue has been enormous,” Ginsburg said. “In recent years, people have said, ‘This is the way I am.’ And others looked around, and we discovered it’s our next-door neighbor — we’re very fond of them. Or it’s our child’s best friend, or even our child. I think that as more and more people came out and said that ‘this is who I am,’ the rest of us recognized that they are one of us.” The number of gay-marriage states has soared in recent years, largely because of court rulings. Only 12 states permitted such unions in June 2013, when the Supreme Court threw out part of a law that denied federal benefits to legally married same-sex couples. The majority’s reasoning in that case prompted lower courts to strike down bans on gay marriage. More

Where Is the Church on Abortion?

Posted: 12 Feb 2015 07:51 AM PST

Where Is the Church on Abortion?Just weeks ago, I had the privilege of walking in my first March for Life. I was there as a volunteer for The Radiance Foundation—an educational, life-affirming organization that inspires people to live a life of meaning. I had no idea what to expect at the world’s largest gathering of pro-life advocates, who made their way to Washington, D.C., from all over the country and even Canada. I don’t consider myself a pro-life activist—at least not in terms that media often defines it, with anti-abortion banners and staged protests. I am just a Christian woman, raised in a ministry family, surrounded by Christian friends and family, who has always held a strong belief in the sanctity of life. We participated in the first-ever evangelical worship gathering at the March for Life, called OneVoiceDC. This was a nondenominational event—open to all—to pray and worship to end abortion and bring healing to our country, which has allowed legal abortion for 42 years.

Hundreds of people were gathered to pray for an end to abortion in our country; I was personally moved by well-known pro-life leaders who came to the gathering to bow before God and humbly seek the answer to abolishing abortion. However, there was a point in the worship service that I felt such great conviction and I couldn’t stop crying. One of the leaders prayed about the church’s “sin of apathy over abortion.” His words hit me with such great conviction. I kept hearing that phrase over and over again in my head.,I have been guilty of the “sin of apathy” over abortion. It’s that apathetic notion that Abortion is legal and I can’t change things, so why dwell on something I cannot change? That was once me, but tragically it is the state of most of the evangelical church in America.

I grew up in ministry, attending various Protestant churches all my life, and I can’t remember one time where abortion was ever a focus of a sermon or a mission of the church. Of course, I have sat under biblical teaching—preaching forgiveness and grace for sins. I know and have witnessed the healing power of Christ in lives of women and men who were healed from the pain and destruction of past abortions; but I don’t see the church taking up the pro-life cause to end abortion. The sin of apathy has led me to the question: “Where is the church?”

Grappling with my own sin of apathy and questioning why the church has been so silent, I came across a timely book by Online for Life President Brian Fisher titled Deliver Us from Abortion. Like me, he too has questioned and “discovered that the American church, on the whole, is not actively defending and protecting innocent life.” In his introduction he addresses this great concern: More

PSALM 83 WATCH – Iranian Forces Advance Towards Israel

Posted: 12 Feb 2015 07:42 AM PST

PSALM 83 WATCH - Iranian Forces Advance Towards IsraelIranian officers working with the Iranian-backed Hezbollah terrorist organization are fighting their way closer to Israel’s northern border with Syria and could soon be in control of the Syrian side of the armistice line. A government source from Syria’s Ministry of Information confirmed to WND a report Tuesday from a U.K.-based human rights organization which stated Hezbollah and Iranian forces were leading a counterinsurgency targeting rebel strongholds in Quneitra, just on the other side of Israel’s border with Syria.  The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the Hezbollah-Iran axis is also leading battles against Islamist insurgents in Daraa, at the Jordan-Israel border and along the southwest of Damascus province. WND last month was first to report that according to Mideast defense officials, Hezbollah and Iran were planning an imminent counterinsurgency against rebel-held positions inside and near the Syrian sections of the Golan Heights aimed at taking the strategic border territory. Now the source from Syria’s Information Ministry has confirmed to WND that “dozens” of Iranian officers are leading the battle with both strategy and field tactics. The source said Iranian forces are giving instructions to both the Syrian army and Hezbollah, who are carrying out the attacks. “The operation started two days ago and is very big,” Rami Abdulrahman, head of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitoring group, said Tuesday. “Regime troops and their Hezbollah-led allies are advancing in the area linking Daraa, Quneitra and Damascus provinces,” the group stated. On Wednesday, Syrian television for the first time reportedly recognized the contribution of Iranian forces to the counterinsurgency. “The operation launched by the Syrian army is being fought in cooperation with … Hezbollah and Iran,” a Syrian army officer told state television, Agence France-Presse reported. Signs of the End Times Escalating Worldwide!

Matthew 24: 4-8 –  And Jesus answered and said to them: “Take heed that no one deceives you. 5 For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many. 6 And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. 7 For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. 8 All these are the beginning of sorrows.

"Fireballs In The Sky" New Zealand, “Looked Like A Big Fireball,… Explosion In The Sky,… Split Into Three PiecesNEW ZEALAND – Bright flashes and sonic booms in the night sky above the North Island are most likely a chunk of asteroid or a meteoroid bursting through the Earth’s atmosphere and burning up.  Bright lights and explosions in the sky have been reported from Auckland to Nelson, and the Coromandel to New Plymouth, and even people in Christchurch and on the West Coast. The event happened about 10pm. People reported that their doors rattled with the impact. Descriptions of the light ranged from white and orange to green and blue.  The official twitter page for Auckland Civil Defence & Emergency Management said it was “definitely not lightning, most likely a #meteor”. The flash in #Auckland tonight was definitely not lightning, most likely a #meteor #nzmeteorMetService image pic.twitter.com/FU2dHzEBhl — Auckland CDEM (@AucklandCDEM) February 11, 2015 TV presenter John Campbell tweeted “something fast and bright just briefly illuminated the sky west of Auckland. Zipped across the blackness. Extraordinary.” Jean Forbes in South Auckland said after seeing the bright light her “doors shook”. In Hamilton Sam McCreary said: “I was standing outside my place in Hamilton at roughly 10pm and saw what I thought was an explosion in the sky. Looked like a big fireball“. Near Upper Hutt, Andy Wardle said he saw a “green fireball type light heading in the straight down direction.” It “appeared to explode and split into three distinctive pieces. I believe this would have landed somewhere out in the Tasman sea. It may have been a meteor or even perhaps a peice of space junk burning up.” Retired Auckland University lecturer and meteorite expert Dr Joel Schiff said the observations described by those who witnessed and heard the event point to a piece of stone or metal-like debris entering the Earth’s atmosphere. “If it’s seen in various parts of the country it is most likely an object breaking up and burning up as it passes through our atmosphere,” he said. 6 Reasons You Should Never Give Up on Church

Posted: 12 Feb 2015 07:02 AM PST

6 Reasons You Should Never Give Up on ChurchI’ve experienced heaven on earth the past few days. I found it in Durban, South Africa, while visiting one of the most joy-filled congregations I’ve ever encountered in my travels. It’s called His Church, and this 1,000-member multicultural church has many wonderful qualities: a loving pastor (a brave woman, Fiona Des Fontaine) who is committed to preaching God’s Word without compromise; a powerful outreach to the community; a healthy team of pastors who serve with no signs of competition or ego; and a Bible college where many young leaders are being trained. I know there are many churches around the world today that have qualities similar to His Church. Yet many Christians—especially in the United States—are giving up on church because they were hurt by pastors or wounded by other Christians, or because they simply decided to “go it alone.” They are knows as “dones”—people who are “done” with church. “Dones” might watch an occasional church service on television or meet with a few Christian friends over coffee for a casual Starbucks version of “church lite.” They still consider themselves serious Christians, but they want nothing more of pastors, tithing, scheduled meetings or church drama. If you or someone you love has given up on church, I’m not here to condemn you. I’ve had my share of disappointments in church over the years, including some spiritual abuse. But I want to offer six reasons why you shouldn’t let a bad experience end your connection to God’s people. More

Franklin Graham Points to Jezebel Scriptures to Describe America

Posted: 12 Feb 2015 06:59 AM PST

Franklin Graham Points to Jezebel Scriptures to Describe AmericaThe sexual revolution that began in earnest five decades ago with promises of new and liberating sexual freedoms has instead left behind a shattered moral landscape that has undermined the fabric and foundation of our nation. Casting off what was perceived as the puritanical restraints of previous generations, the ’60s and ’70s launched a new era of sexual experimentation. The revolution, publicly inaugurated by 1967’s “Summer of Love” in San Francisco’s Haight-Ashbury district, promised an enlightened age of sexual morality. The new thinking said cohabitation wasn’t really a problem. Divorce wasn’t nearly as harmful as once thought. Promiscuity presented no clear and present danger to the family unit. Same-sex attraction was perfectly normal. Pornography was little cause for concern. Indeed, an entire industry developed around its spurious allure. Fifty years later, we can see that the results have been catastrophic. In many respects the American family is completely unrecognizable, courtesy of a failed sexual revolution that has left a devastating wake of destruction. In certain segments of American culture, more than 70 percent of children are born to single parents and remain in single-parent households. Nationally, more than 1 in 4 children today live in households with only one parent. Demographers predict that by age 18, nearly 50 percent of all children will have lived with just a mom or dad. Nearly half of all marriages end in divorce, and couples who cohabitate before marriage are even more likely to split. Some studies show that the proliferation of pornography available on the Internet has likely contributed to the declining marriage rate.

The freedoms promised by the sexual revolution have instead given way to ever increasing slavery and captivity to sin. The attempt to cast off moral restraint has only opened wide the devil’s destructive, deadly toolbox. “For whatever overcomes a person, to that he is enslaved” (2 Pet. 2:19). The plague of immorality has so swept across the American landscape that there is virtually no place where its corrosive influence is not felt. The pervasive, immoral reach of popular media, which actively promotes every type of sexual misconduct imaginable, constantly agitates against the biblical norms of upright, godly behavior. The Scripture is clear: “But sexual immorality and all impurity or covetousness must not even be named among you. … For you may be sure of this, that everyone who is sexually immoral or impure, or who is covetous … has no inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God” (Eph. 5:3, 5). Today, what our society seems to value most is the freedom to do whatever we want, whatever makes us feel good. Anyone who would try to stop us from doing what we want—even when what we want is destructive to ourselves and to others—is mocked and vilified. But God’s laws and commands are given for our good. Sexuality is a gift from God to be used within His wise restraints. Like the levees that hold back mighty rivers from destructive floods, God’s Word and ways are designed to keep our thoughts, passions and desires in godly bounds. They are for our good, not our harm.

“The body is not meant for sexual immorality,” wrote the Apostle Paul to the Corinthian church, “but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body’” (1 Cor. 6:13). Our bodies, which one day will be redeemed, glorified bodies, are made by God for God. To flaunt His design is, in essence, to commit idolatry by prizing and delighting in what God hates. Our culture, like ancient cultures that ultimately were destroyed in large part due to their own moral depravity, has been severely weakened. A stable family unit committed to the truth and precepts of the Bible was once the foundation and backbone of our nation. That model is now the exception, not the rule. We know that as the end draws near, this world will be characterized by escalating violence and rampant sexual immorality. In Revelation 17 and 18, Babylon represents the “great prostitute” of the earth. It stands for the unbridled pursuit of sensual pleasures. The earth, about to be judged by the King of kings and Lord of lords, has become completely intoxicated by wanton pleasures. “For all the nations have drunk … of her [Babylon’s] sexual immorality” (Rev. 18:3). He said the tanks and other military hardware had crossed the border “despite statements by Russian officials about the absence of Russian military equipment and forces on Ukrainian territory.” Yahoo

Antisemitic Terror Victim Kayla Mueller’s Ironic Allegiance To Islam Was Ultimately Her Undoing

Sadly, Kayla Mueller supported the very terrorists who kidnapped her and held her hostage till the day she died in their charge

Many of you know that I am a Jewish Christian. I’ll never “not” be a Jew. Jesus made me a completed Jew. Having said that, when I read about the death of Kayla Mueller, at the hands of ISIS, it saddened me. The initial reports about her activity in the Middle East were deceptive. I was reading that Kayla went over there in a humanitarian capacity. Once again, the press reports what they’re told to report.

The TRUTH is that this woman was a Jew hater and an Israel hater to the core of her being. She went over there to help Hamas in their ongoing terrorist activities against Israel. She helped Palestinians to harass Israeli soldiers, and was used to block them from their job of keeping Islamic terrorists out of Israel. She aided Hamas in keeping the IDF from tearing down many houses where the terrorist thugs kept their arsenals.

From the International Solidarity Movement (ISM), a terrorist group that aided and abetted Al-Qaeda, HAMAS, Islamic Jihad, and Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigade terrorists (including two British Muslims who blew up “Mike’s Bar” in Tel Aviv):

Abdullah Abu Rahma, coordinator of the popular committee in the village of Bil’in where Kayla joined the protests, told ISM: “Kayla came to Palestine to stand in solidarity with us. She marched with us and faced the military that occupies our land side by side with us. For this, Kayla will always live in our hearts. We send all our support to her family and will continue, like Kayla, to work against injustice wherever it is.” . . .

With the ISM, Kayla worked with Palestinians . . . resisting the confiscation and demolitions of their homes and lands. In the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood of Occupied East Jerusalem, she stayed with the Al Kurd family to try and prevent the takeover of their home by Israeli settlers.

Mueller also praised Palestinians who attacked Israelis with rocks and said she marched “arm in arm” with them and supported their violence. source – Debbie Schlussel

Kayla Mueller died at the hands of ISIS. The irony of this is astounding. Sometimes I think we forget the Scripture in Genesis where the Lord describes the descendants of Ishmael:

“And the angel of the Lord said unto her, Behold, thou art with child and shalt bear a son, and shalt call his name Ishmael; because the Lord hath heard thy affliction. And he will be a wild man; his hand will be against every man, and every man’s hand against him; and he shall dwell in the presence of all his brethren.” Genesis 16:11-12 (KJV)

For those who are not familiar with Scripture, God was describing Arabs.

So, to Kayla Mueller’s family, I do extend my condolences. It is sad when any member of a family dies. I don’t know if Kayla was taught anti-Semitism in her home. She may have been indoctrinated with it in college. Our colleges are being overrun with leftwing liberal Jew hating professors, and of course, the Muslim students on campuses, who by the way, are well funded by George Soros.

That will be a subject of a future article.

“Whoso diggeth a pit shall fall therein: and he that rolleth a stone, it will return upon him.” Proverbs 26:27 (KJV)

Feminist Aborts Male Child Because She ‘Couldn’t Bring Another Monster Into The World’

A feminist blogger has created a massive uproar by detailing her decision to kill her male child in an article entitled “I Aborted My Baby – Because it was a Boy“. She initially believed that she was going to have a girl, and she was making all sorts of plans for her future. But when an ultrasound showed that it was going to be a boy, she decided that she must have an abortion because she “couldn’t bring another monster into the world”. And she says that she would do it again “if the curse returns”. So what would cause a woman to want to kill her own child just because it is a boy? How twisted has feminism in America become if this is the result? (Read More…)

Feds Hold Hearing On Whether They Should ‘Regulate’ Sites Like Drudge, Infowars And The Economic Collapse Blog

The control freaks that run our government always seem to want to “regulate” things that they do not like. And so it should be no surprise that there is a renewed push to regulate independent news websites. Sites like the Drudge Report, Infowars.com and The Economic Collapse Blog have been a thorn in the side of the establishment for years. You see, the truth is that approximately 90 percent of all news and entertainment in this country is controlled by just six giant media corporations. That is why the news seems to be so similar no matter where you turn. But in recent years the alternative media has exploded in popularity. People are hungry for the truth, and an increasing number of Americans are waking up to the fact that they are not getting the truth from the corporate-controlled media. But as the alternative media has grown, it was only going to be a matter of time before the establishment started cracking down on it. At the moment it is just the FEC and the FCC, but surely this is just the beginning. Our “Big Brother” government ultimately wants to control every area of our lives – and this especially applies to our ability to communicate freely with one another. (Read More….)

Who Was Kayla Mueller?

A look at the writings of the ISIS victim shows her support and aid to Palestinian Arab terror groups, her acting as a human shield for them, and her active participation in anti-Israel protests. Rachel Corrie did the same.

Sadly, she was allegedly killed by the Jordanian air raid attacks according to ISIS who held her hostage, although the United States says there is no evidence to that effect. The truth of how Kayla Mueller, 26, died may never be discerned. However, despite the sadness at her needless death, the myth that she was wonderful altruistic young woman should be exposed. This is another Rachel Corrie propaganda story in the making, and the western media is falling for it again, or embracing it on purpose.

Ben Shapiro: Why Jews Vote Leftist

Ben Shapiro takes a clear-eyed look at why American Jews vote with the anti-Israel Left. See the video and transcript.

In 2008, American Jews voted overwhelmingly for Barack Obama. Even though Obama had spent large segments of his prior life hobnobbing with vicious anti-Semites like Jeremiah Wright and Rashid Khalidi, even though he had staffed his campaign with anti-Semites ranging from Zbigniew Brzezinski to Robert Malley, Jews turned out in droves for him. Sarah Silverman harangued young Jews into telling their grandparents that they were racist if they didn’t vote for him; Jeffrey Goldberg, Obama’s designated court Jew – a role he has never relinquished — informed Jews that they were racist if they feared Senator Obama’s positions on Israel.

Israel And The Church

Q.  In the column of Feb. 4th entitled “Three Questions of Matt.24″ in  the section “I’ve Got a Secret” you say that the church  and Israel are two different entities with two different destinies.  The NT tells us that through Christ, Jews and Gentiles become one new man.  So, what are the two different destinies?  Thank you for this clarification.

Words of Comfort: Abandon the ship!

Imagine for a moment that you are standing on the seashore gazing at a large ocean liner. The sun is shining. There is no wind and the sea is calm. To your amazement, about thirty people suddenly dive off the end of the ship and cling to a lifeboat. You shake your head in disbelief at their foolishness. Then without warning, the great ocean liner strikes an iceberg and suddenly sinks, taking all on board with it. Those who looked like fools in abandoning the ship were actually wise, and those who seemed wise by staying on board were, in truth, fools.

The world scoffs at those who abandon the ship of this world and cling to the lifeboat of the Savior. But Christians know that this great pleasure-cruiser will eventually come into contact with the immovable iceberg of the Law of God, sink into hell . . . and take all those on board with it.

5 Ways to Pray for Your Daughters

Tim Challies

As a dad, I pray for each of my kids just about every day, and I take it as both a joy and responsibility to bring them before the Lord. Praying for the kids is a helpful way of training myself to remember that they are his before they are mine, and that any good they experience will ultimately find its source in God himself. And I believe that prayer works—that God hears a father’s prayers for his children, and that he delights to answer those prayers.

One of my most common prayers for my girls is a prayer for their protection. Here are 5 ways that I pray for God to protect them…

Here it is . . .

You wanted to know how it is that a person can change his lifestyle? The answer is simple:

Anyone can change if he is determined to do so. Some change for health reasons (they may stop smoking). Others change in order to please a certain girl—or fellow—as the case may be (they change their language habits, for instance). And, it is true, that there may be certain temporal benefits to the change. Life may be easier. But if the person isn’t a believer, then his change isn’t pleasing to God (Romans 8:8[1]). And in the long run, it isn’t for the better at all. Even a believer (by ignoring the Spirit) may change in the same way—and not please God (cf. 1 Corinthians 3:1-4, where believers were acting like unbelievers). True biblical change is different.

How so?

When a Christian changes in ways that do please God it is by

  1. Doing so because he wants to obey and honor Him. He seeks to make a certain change because it is God’s will for him to do so—as he finds it in the Bible; by
  2. Doing so by replacing sinful ways with righteous ones (or as the apostle Paul put it: by putting off the former and putting on the latter; Colossians: 3:9); by
  3. Doing these things through seeking the help of the Spirit a) enabling him to understand God’s will in the Word; b) empowering him to make the changes involved (cf. Philippians 2:13).

Thus, in essence, it is change that one makes in consort with God Himself. Thus both the motive and the method are of God as well as of the believer.

[1] To be in the flesh is to be without the Spirit of God.

15 Concerns in Children’s Ministries

Girls vs boys

Learning My Children are not Machines

Aaron Earls:

When I push the button on my laptop, it should start up. If it doesn’t, it can’t blame its nonexistent emotions. It should respond immediately and appropriately because that’s what it has been created to do.

In evaluating my parenting, I realized much of my anger with my children arose from my having the wrong perspective about them. I was viewing them as if they were machines.

Can Jobs Be Stolen?

R. Campbell Sproul’s on the right track here: “Jobs are not property, and since jobs are not property, it is impossible to steal them.”

The Act of Rigorous Forgiving

David Brooks:

There’s something sad in Brian Williams’s need to puff up his Iraq adventures and something barbaric in the public response.

The sad part is the reminder that no matter how high you go in life and no matter how many accolades you win, it’s never enough. The desire for even more admiration races ahead. Career success never really satisfies. Public love always leaves you hungry. Even very famous people can do self-destructive things in an attempt to seem just a little cooler.

Why Is the Number of the Beast 666?

Greg Beale:

The problem is that no clear identification can be made linking 666 with any particular ancient historical name. Attempts have been made to alter spellings and incorporate titles to try to make a multitude of names fit, but nothing conclusive has emerged. Most commonly, the number has been identified with Nero, on the basis of a Hebrew transliteration of the title “Nero Caesar.” However, this option flounders on confusion concerning the exact Hebrew spelling of Caesar, and does not fit the fact that John’s readers were largely Greek-speaking, and that Nero had many titles other than Caesar. Additionally, if John were using gematria, he would have alerted his readers by saying something like, “the number in Hebrew (or Greek) is . . .” as he uses the phrases “in Hebrew” or “in Greek” in 9:11 and 16:16, when he wants to draw the readers’ attention to certain significance.

Cold Case Christianity: The Dangers of “Scientism” and an Over-Reliance on Science

If you’re like me, you have non-believing friends who claim that Christians are biased. They know that we, as Christians, believe in the existence of God, so they assume that we are unable to evaluate the evidence properly. Non-believers are convinced that Christians start out with a presupposition that clouds our judgment. In truth, however, many of our “rational”, “science based” friends are far more constrained by their presuppositions.

Remember that ALL of us have a point of view, but this does not necessarily mean we are unfairly biased. Bias has nothing to do with holding a viewpoint. Bias occurs when this viewpoint eliminates certain forms of evidence and evidential conclusions before we even begin the investigation. And while atheists may argue that Christians have this kind of bias, a quick examination of the culture’s reliance on science reveals that just the opposite is true. I bet you’ve heard a friend say something similar to: “I am a science and evidence person. Truth can only be determined empirically, and science is the only way to really know truth.” When people make statements like this, they may be revealing something more than a point of view; they may be exposing a rigid bias that is grounded in an over-reliance on science known as “scientism”. There are three dangers in over estimating the ability of science to determine truth:

President Obama has just submitted his request for Congress to authorize the use of military force against the Islamic State. Does this mean the President is finally getting serious about waging an all-out war to crush the Radical Islamic force commonly known as “ISIS” or “ISIL”? Does he have a strategy to win.

I wish the answer was yes. Unfortunately, I am not convinced. As with his Iran policy, the President appears to want to look like he is taking serious actions, without actually doing anything decisive to solve the grave problems we face.

Let me explain.

First, some facts:

  • “The Obama administration has informed lawmakers that the president will seek a formal authorization to fight the Islamic State that would prohibit the use of ‘enduring offensive ground forces’ and limit engagement to three years,” reports the…

Barna Update | Cyber Church: Pastors and the Internet

How Are Pastors Using the Internet?

Much has changed in the world since 2000, and few can deny that many of those changes have been facilitated by technology. The Internet, in particular—both how much we use it and what we use it for—has dramatically altered the way people live their lives, do their work and engage in their relationships. Pastors are no exception: In the past 15 years, church leaders have significantly increased their use of the Internet and have, by and large, come to accept it as an essential tool for ministry in the 21st century.

In a recent study of American church leaders, Barna Group looked at pastors’ use of the Internet and their attitudes toward it today compared to 15 years ago, at the turn of the century. While many of the trends are what you might expect—increased use, increased acceptance, an increase in the variety of ways they use the Internet—pastors still express caution toward just how much the Internet can do in terms of spiritual guidance and religious experiences.
