Illegals Will Receive Tax Refunds

Illinois Congressman Luis Gutierrez told The Daily Caller Friday that he didn’t know that illegal immigrants are eligible for tax refunds — even if they haven’t paid taxes. IRS Commissioner John Koskinen told members of Congress Wednesday that illegal immigrants who did not pay taxes will be able to claim back-refunds once they are issued social security numbers.

Mark Levin: ‘Our Rights Do Come From God’

Nationally syndicated radio show host Mark Levin, commenting on Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore’s claim that our rights come from God, pinpointed the fundamental difference between the left and the right. “[T]he left does not believe in fundamental human rights,” says Levin. “They believe in fundamental quote, unquote rights dispensed by government, and this is where the problem rests!”

Feds Extorting Christians With Gestapo-Like Seizures

Everyone acknowledged at the hearing the IRS and federal agents have certainly seized many illegal assets and much dirty money from actual criminals. But what was rankling the lawmakers was how much legal, hard-earned money the IRS and these agents have been seizing from good citizens guilty only of depositing their own money in a way the IRS doesn’t like.

Mainstreaming Jew hatred in America – Caroline Glick

US President Barack Obama is mainstreaming anti-Semitism in America.

This week, apropos of seemingly nothing, in an interview with Mathew Yglesias from the Vox.com website, Obama was asked about terrorism. In his answer the president said the terrorism threat is overrated. And that was far from the most disturbing statement he made.

Still Right on the Black Family After All These Years

For decades research has shown that the likelihood of teen pregnancy, drug abuse, dropping out of school and many other social problems grew dramatically when fathers were absent. One of the most comprehensive studies ever done on juvenile delinquency—by William Comanor and Llad Phillips of the University of California, Santa Barbara, in 2002—concluded that “the most critical factor affecting the prospect that a male youth will encounter the criminal justice system is the presence of his father in the home.”

The Death of The Rule of Law in Alabama

What “rule of law” answers these fundamental questions? Judge Granade has now set herself up to be the chief probate officer in the state of Alabama. She has not defined marriage, and her failure to do so leaves state actors, especially probate judges, without a definition of the institution for which they are issuing state licenses. Worse, she has provided no legal standards—not even a limiting principle—to guide her administration of Alabama family law, which she has now taken upon herself.

Newly Discovered Exoplanet With Extreme Seasons Called A ‘Real Maverick’

Posted: 15 Feb 2015 08:17 AM PST

Newly Discovered Exoplanet With Extreme Seasons Called A 'Real Maverick'Two groups of astronomers working independently in Germany have discovered a massive new exoplanet that’s quite strange–for a few reasons. The newfound exoplanet, dubbed Kepler-432b, was monitored by NASA’s Kepler space telescope from 2009 to 2013 and identified as a planetary candidate in 2011. Using the 2.2-meter telescope at Calar Alto Observatory in Andalucía, Spain and the Nordic Optical Telescope on La Palma in the Canary Islands, the researchers are now confirming that, indeed, it’s a planet.  Analyzing the data from both telescopes, the researchers discovered Kepler-432b is incredibly dense; though it’s around the same size as Jupiter, its mass is six times that of the gas giant. Its orbit around its host star, a red giant with a radius that’s four times that of our Sun, is also unusual. “The majority of known planets moving around giant stars have large and circular orbits,” Dr. Davide Gandolfi, an astronomer at Heidelberg University’s Center for Astronomy in Germany and a researcher involved in the discovery, said in a written statement. “With its small and highly elongated orbit, Kepler-432b is a real ‘maverick’ among planets of this type.” Due to the orbit’s elongated shape, Kepler-432b’s seasons are extreme, with temperatures ranging from 932 degrees Fahrenheit in winter to 1,832 degrees Fahrenheit in summer. A year on the planet corresponds to roughly 52 Earth days, according to the researchers. And the planet is only one of five observed orbiting a red giant host star at such a close distance. Red giants are stars in their last stage of life. They can grow to become anywhere from 10 to 100 times their original size, and as they grow, any planets nearby are at risk of being devoured. So though Kepler-432b has been able to survive near its star so far, it likely won’t be around for much longer.  “The days of Kepler-432b are numbered,” Mauricio Ortiz, a PhD student at Heidelberg University who led one of the two studies of the planet, said in the statement. “In less than 200 million years, Kepler-432b will be swallowed by its continually expanding host star.” Two papers describing the discovery have been published in the January 2015 issue of the journal Astronomy and Astrophysics. Heavy snow, dangerous winds slam New England yet again

Heavy snow, dangerous winds slam New England yet againA storm brought a new round of wind-whipped snow to New England on Sunday, threatening white-out conditions in coastal areas and forcing people to contend with a fourth winter onslaught in less than a month. A blizzard warning was in effect for coastal communities from Rhode Island to Maine into Monday; and a bone-chilling blast of cold, with lows of minus-10 degrees was in the Sunday night forecast in parts of the region.
With more than 6 feet of snow already standing in some areas from previous storms, crews struggled to keep snow-clogged roads clear as fresh snow blew in as soon as they passed. Half a foot of snow had fallen across much of eastern Massachusetts by daybreak Sunday, with Ipswich recording 20 inches, according to the National Weather Service. Before it is all over, southern New England could get several more inches and coastal areas of New Hampshire and southern Maine could see up to 2 feet, weather forecasters said. “The best thing people can do is stay home, stay indoors,” said William Babcock, a weather service meteorologist. Gov. Charlie Baker in Massachusetts and Gov. Gina Raimondo in Rhode Island warned motorists to stay off the roads. Baker said Sunday morning that high tide was not as severe as anticipated, with no reports of major flooding, but warned that winds gusting over 60 mph could bring power outages. “There’s a little bit of deja vu all over again in this,” he said. Transportation officials in the region had taken precautions. Nearly 400 Sunday flights were canceled at Boston’s Logan International Airport, and none was scheduled Sunday morning. The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority canceled all rail, bus and ferry service in the Boston area on Sunday. Babcock said gusts could max out at 75 mph — hurricane territory — on Cape Cod. Officials warned of possible power outages, and north-facing or vulnerable coastal areas could suffer flooding and beach erosion, the weather service said. Ahead of the storm, forces gathered to remove piles of snow and ready for the next round. Massachusetts called up hundreds of National Guard troops to assist with snow removal, and the Hanscom Air Force base outside Boston became a staging area for heavy equipment pouring in from eight other Northeast states to help in the effort. Islam In The Obama White House: Meet Mohamed ElibiaryIN NOVEMBER 2013, ELIBIARY TOOK TO TWITTER TO ANNOUNCE THAT THE U.S. WAS A SHARIAH-COMPLIANT ISLAMIC COUNTRY

EDITOR’S NOTE: Mohamed Elibiary is just one of the many hardcore, radical, Muslim Brotherhood connected Islamists that president Barack Obama has filled the White House with. Elibiary was positioned, of all places, in sensitive areas in Homeland Security. When news of his deep connection with the Muslim Brotherhood leaked out, Obama was forced to remove him. But those connections where well known prior to his appointment, and in fact was the reason for his appointment. Obama’s greatest accomplishment, when all is said and done, may well be that he successfully implemented the Islamization of America.

In 2011, Barack Obama appointed Elibiary, a well known member of the Muslim Brotherhood, to a key position in our Department of Homeland Security. Oh……you didn’t know that? Sorry to be the one to break that news to you. And he’s not the only one. Obama has appointed numerous members of the MB to very sensitive positions in our government.

Back in September of 2014, Mohamed Elibiary was abruptly relieved of his duties at the Department of Homeland Security. There was speculation that he had leaked information to the Brotherhood, but nothing was confirmed. Where he is now and what he is doing should shock and alarm all of us.

I actually had brief conversations with Mr. Elibiary on Twitter. I know — not smart.
I guess I had a brief lapse in judgment. When our president had the secret meeting in the White House with Muslim Brotherhood buddies, and the press was banned, I wrote to Mohamed and asked how the meeting went, since none of the American people knew.

He tweeted back that it went well, and they have scheduled many more meetings. He is very arrogant. He knows I’m a Jew and a Christian.

I really made him mad one day when I said that the Egyptian people ousted Morsi (Leader of the Muslim Brotherhood) because they didn’t want sharia law. He unloaded on me that it wasn’t true, and blamed the whole thing on the Egyptian military.

Aggressive HIV strain leading to AIDS in 3 years discovered in Cuba

Posted: 14 Feb 2015 04:10 PM PST

Aggressive HIV strain leading to AIDS in 3 years discovered in CubaA “much more aggressive than others” strain of HIV have been discovered by an international team of researchers in patients in Cuba. It can progress to AIDS in just three years, sometimes even before patients realize they were infected. The new strain was found by researchers at KU Leuven’s Laboratory for Clinical and Epidemiological Virology, based in Belgium. They took blood results from 73 recently infected patients – 52 of them diagnosed with AIDS, and 22 patients, who progressed to the disease after a normal long period of being infected with HIV, that’s estimated to be in between 5 and 10 years. The scientists thus discovered a new faster-progressing strain of HIV, that’s in fact a combination of three subtypes of the virus. “Here we had a variant of HIV that we found only in the group that was progressing fast,” Professor Anne-Mieke Vandamme, who led the research, told Voice of America. “Not in the other two groups. We focused in on this variant [and] tried to find out what was different. And we saw it was a recombinant of three different subtypes.”  The patients with the aggressive strain had more virus in their blood as well as more of RANTES – defensive molecules, that the immune system develops in response to HIV. Recombinant virus strains originate when a person is infected by two different strains, whose DNA fuse to create a new form. “Engaging in unprotected sex with multiple partners increases the risk of contracting multiple strains of HIV,” the report warns. In November last year an aggressive strain of HIV was discovered in Africa by researchers of Sweden’s Lund University. That strain of the virus was a fusion of the two most common HIV strains in Guinea-Bissau, AFP reported. It has so far only been found in West Africa. RT

At least 1 in 5 suicides globally associated with unemployment

At least 1 in 5 suicides globally associated with unemploymentAround a one fifth of all suicide deaths are down to unemployment concerns research has shown, Swiss scientists have found. This is far higher than other causes such of ending ones life such as economic downturns. The survey, which was conducted by a team of researchers from the University of Zurich’s Psychiatric Hospital, found that suicides associated with unemployment were nine times higher than the number of suicides attributed to the economic crisis. “Every year, around one in five suicides is associated with unemployment,” said the lead author of the study, Carlos Nordt. The study has just been published in the journal The Lancet Psychiatry. Unemployment between 2000 and 2011 was responsible for around 45,000 deaths, while the recession accounted for about 5,000 during the same period. The researchers estimated that there were 233,000 suicide deaths per year, amongst the 63 where the research took place.  Interestingly, the report finds that it is the stigma of losing one’s job, which is the main factor behind unemployment suicides. Also those countries, which have lower unemployment rates, tend to see higher numbers of those out of work choosing to end their own lives. “Our findings reveal that the suicide rate increases six months before a rise in unemployment. What is more, our data suggests that not all job losses necessarily have an equal impact, as the effect on suicide risk appears to be stronger in countries where being out of work is uncommon,” said Dr. Nordt. “It is possible that an unexpected increase in the unemployment rate may trigger greater fears and insecurity than in countries with higher pre-crisis unemployment levels,” he added.  The report covered countries in four continents, though it did not include China or India. It added that a 20 to 30 percent increase in the number of suicides has taken place in just over a decade. Those behind the study used data on suicide and the economy, which had been gathered by the World Health Organization’s mortality database and the world economic outlook database of the International Monetary Fund to come to their conclusions. In 2007 being out of work was linked to 41,148 suicides, while in 2009 that number had risen to 46,131. Therefore the research team was able to deduce that the extra 4,983 suicides were a result of the 2008 economic crisis. MORE

A true history of false flag attacks

Posted: 14 Feb 2015 03:58 PM PST

A true history of false flag attacksThere are many documented false flag attacks, where a government carries out a terror attack … and then falsely blames its enemy for political purposes. (Originally published on WashingtonsBlog.com) In the following 42 instances, officials in the government which carried out the attack (or seriously proposed an attack) admits to it, either orally or in writing:

(1) Japanese troops set off a small explosion on a train track in 1931, and falsely blamed it on China in order to justify an invasion of Manchuria. This is known as the “Mukden Incident” or the “Manchurian Incident”. The Tokyo International Military Tribunal found: “Several of the participators in the plan, including Hashimoto [a high-ranking Japanese army officer], have on various occasions admitted their part in the plot and have stated that the object of the ‘Incident’ was to afford an excuse for the occupation of Manchuria by the Kwantung Army ….”

(2) A major with the Nazi SS admitted at the Nuremberg trials that — under orders from the chief of the Gestapo — he and some other Nazi operatives faked attacks on their own people and resources which they blamed on the Poles, to justify the invasion of Poland.

(3) Nazi general Franz Halder also testified at the Nuremberg trials that Nazi leader Hermann Goering admitted to setting fire to the German parliament building in 1933, and then falsely blaming the communists for the arson.

(4) Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev admitted in writing that the Soviet Union’s Red Army shelled the Russian village of Mainila in 1939 — while blaming the attack on Finland — as a basis for launching the “Winter War” against Finland. Russian president Boris Yeltsin agreed that Russia had been the aggressor in the Winter War.

(5) The Russian Parliament, current Russian president Putin and former Soviet leader Gorbachev all admit that Soviet leader Joseph Stalin ordered his secret police to execute 22,000 Polish army officers and civilians in 1940, and falsely blame it on the Nazis. MORE

First Openly Bisexual governor in American history elected in U.S

Posted: 14 Feb 2015 03:50 PM PST

First openly Bisexual governor in American history elected in U.SOregon Secretary of State Kate Brown (D) will become the first openly bisexual governor in U.S. history when Gov. John Kitzhaber (D) resigns Wednesday. An open LGBT governor has never been elected, although New Jersey did have an openly gay governor briefly in 2004, after Gov. Jim McGreevey (D) came out as gay and admitted an affair with a man he had appointed to a key job. He resigned three months later. Brown is married to husband Dan Little; she has publicly discussed her bisexuality in past campaigns. She is already arguably the highest-ranking bisexual elected official in America; Rep. Kyrsten Sinema (D-Ariz.) became the first bisexual member of Congress in 2013. There are about 525 openly LGBT public officials in office at all levels of government, according to the Gay and Lesbian Victory Fund. Most of them are Democrats, said interim executive director Denis Dison, and only about 20 are Republicans. This will also be the second time in Brown’s career she has taken office because of a resignation. Her start in politics came in 1991 when she was appointed to the state House following the resignation of Rep. Judy Bauman (D), who left office because she was appointed to an executive position. Brown served in the House until 1997, when she won a seat in the Oregon state Senate. In 2008, she was the first woman to serve as Oregon Senate majority leader, and later that year she was elected secretary of state. Brown said in a statement she was “ready” to take office should Kitzhaber resign — as it appeared he would Wednesday, before he reportedly changed his mind. He announced his resignation Friday afternoon. But what would Brown’s Oregon look like? Her six years of secretary of state were described by the Oregonian as “nondescript” — most secretaries of state toil in such relative obscurity — but she touts her push for increased transparency as a highlight of her time as a legislator. Brown cites the creation of the state’s online database of campaign contributions and expenditures and her efforts to reduce fraud in the initiative processes among her accomplishments. MORE

Scientists Warn Oklahoma’s Daily Earthquakes Raise Risk Of Big One

Posted: 14 Feb 2015 03:43 PM PST

Scientists Warn Oklahoma's Daily Earthquakes Raise Risk Of Big OneSmall earthquakes shaking Oklahoma and southern Kansas daily and linked to energy drilling are dramatically increasing the chance of bigger and dangerous quakes, federal research indicates. This once stable region is now just as likely to see serious damaging and potentially harmful earthquakes as the highest risk places east of the Rockies such as New Madrid, Missouri, and Charleston, South Carolina, which had major quakes in the past two centuries.  Still it’s a low risk, about a 1 in 2,500 years’ chance of happening, according to geophysicist William Ellsworth of the U.S. Geological Survey. “To some degree we’ve dodged a bullet in Oklahoma,” Ellsworth said after a presentation to the American Association for the Advancement of Science. But, he added, “This is not to say we expect a large earthquake tomorrow.” During the 90-minute session on human-induced earthquakes, three quakes larger than 3.1 magnitude hit northern Oklahoma. Federal records show that since Jan. 1, Oklahoma has had nearly 200 quakes that people have felt. These quakes started to increase in 2008 and made dramatic jumps in frequency in June 2013 and again in February 2014, Ellsworth said. They are mostly in areas with energy drilling, often hydraulic fracturing, a process known as fracking. Many studies have linked the increase in small quakes to the process of injecting wastewater deep underground because it changes pressure and triggers dormant faults.  Until now, those quakes were mostly thought of as nuisances and not really threats. But Ellsworth’s continuing study, which is not yet published, showed the mere increase In the number of tiny temblors raises the risk of earthquakes that scientists consider major hazards. That’s generally above a magnitude 5 with older buildings and a magnitude 6 for modern ones, Ellsworth said. “The more small earthquakes we have it just simply increases the odds we’re going to have a more damaging event,” Ellsworth said. A 2011 earthquake in Prague, Oklahoma, was a 5.7 magnitude, causing some damage and hurting two people. Some studies said that was a side effect of the drilling process, but other scientists are not convinced. Experts at the science session said Ellsworth’s finding of a higher risk for big quakes makes sense. “We are worried about this, no question about it,” said Rex Buchanan, interim director of the Kansas Geological Survey. Bank Hackers Steal Millions via Malware
In late 2013, an A.T.M. in Kiev started dispensing cash at seemingly random times of day. No one had put in a card or touched a button. Cameras showed that the piles of money had been swept up by customers who appeared lucky to be there at the right moment. But when a Russian cybersecurity firm, Kaspersky Lab, was called to Ukraine to investigate, it discovered that the errant machine was the least of the bank’s problems. The bank’s internal computers, used by employees who process daily transfers and conduct bookkeeping, had been penetrated by malware that allowed cybercriminals to record their every move. The malicious software lurked for months, sending back video feeds and images that told a criminal group — including Russians, Chinese and Europeans — how the bank conducted its daily routines, according to the investigators. Then the group impersonated bank officers, not only turning on various cash machines, but also transferring millions of dollars from banks in Russia, Japan, Switzerland, the United States and the Netherlands into dummy accounts set up in other countries. In a report to be published on Monday, and provided in advance to The New York Times, Kaspersky Lab says that the scope of this attack on more than 100 banks and other financial institutions in 30 nations could make it one of the largest bank thefts ever — and one conducted without the usual signs of robbery. The Moscow-based firm says that because of nondisclosure agreements with the banks that were hit, it cannot name them. Officials at the White House and the F.B.I. have been briefed on the findings, but say that it will take time to confirm them and assess the losses. More

First GMO Apple Approved for Growing in USA

Posted: 14 Feb 2015 12:41 PM PST

First GMO Apple Approved for Growing in USAThe government on Friday approved the commercial planting of genetically engineered apples that are resistant to turning brown when sliced or bruised. The developer, Okanagan Specialty Fruits, says it believes the nonbrowning feature will be popular with both consumers and food service companies because it will make sliced apples more appealing. The feature could also reduce the number of apples discarded because of bruising. But many executives in the apple industry say they worry that the biotech apples, while safe to eat, will face opposition from some consumers, possibly tainting the wholesome image of the fruit that reputedly “keeps the doctor away.” They are also concerned that it could hurt exports of apples to countries that do not like genetically modified foods. “In the marketplace we participate in, there doesn’t seem to be room for genetically modified apples now,” said John Rice, co-owner of Rice Fruit Company in Gardners, Pa., which bills itself as the largest apple packer in the East. The Department of Agriculture, which approved the apples for commercial planting, said on Friday that it had considered these issues. However, it said that under the law, approval is based on whether a genetically modified crop poses a threat to other plants. The department determined that the apples posed no such risk. The so-called Arctic apples — which will be available in the Granny Smith and Golden Delicious varieties — are genetically engineered in a way to suppress the production of an enzyme that causes browning when cells in the apple are injured, from slicing, for example. But over time the apples will still rot and turn brown. In November, the Agriculture Department approved a genetically engineered potato developed by the J.R. Simplot Company that uses a similar technique to prevent browning. More

Islam In The Obama White House: Meet Mohamed Elibiary

When our president had the secret meeting in the White House with Muslim Brotherhood buddies, and the press was banned, I wrote to Mohamed and asked how the meeting went, since none of the American people knew.

I really made him mad one day when I said that the Egyptian people ousted Morsi (Leader of the Muslim Brotherhood) because they didn’t want sharia law. He unloaded on me that it wasn’t true, and blamed the whole thing on the Egyptian military.

His Twitter name is Texas Muslim Republican. I made a comment to him one day about the name being ludicrous. He also called Bobby Jindal a “Bottom Feeder”, which made me angry. He started following me that day. That gave me the creeps and I blocked him.

Freedom Outpost had a good article on Elibiary yesterday:

“Former Homeland Security Advisor & Pro-Muslim Brotherhood Mohamed Elibiary Spews Hate & Bigotry at Christians”

“Mohamed Elibiary has become a favorite punching bag of anyone pointing to the Islamist influence in the Obama administration. He’s done much to bring the attention on himself, as he openly hates conservatives, Christians, and anyone who might stand against Islam or Obama. There is a long train of racists, bigoted comments that he’s spewed, and most of them have been saved for posterity by the world wide web.

Patrick Poole of the PJ Tattler was kind enough to round up a wide range of Elibiary’s abuses in a recent article.

From the PJ Tattler:

Elibiary admitted that his mentor and long-time friend was none other than Hamas terrorist leader Shukri Abu Baker, who is currently serving a 65-year prison sentence. In 2003, Elibiary was listed as a board member for the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) Dallas chapter, which was founded by now-convicted Hamas operative Ghassan Elashi.

In 2008, federal prosecutors declared in a federal court brief that “from its founding by Muslim Brotherhood leaders, CAIR conspired with other affiliates of the Muslim Brotherhood to support terrorists.”

In Dec 2004, Elibiary was a featured speaker at a Dallas rally honoring the Ayatollah Khomeini as a “Great Islamic Visionary,” an event the Dallas Morning News called a “disgrace.”

Immediately after the Fort Hood massacre in November 2009, Dallas Morning News editor Rod Dreher recounted Elibiary’s strident defense of jihadist ideologue Sayyid Qutb, whom the 9/11 Commission identified as the chief architect of Al-Qaeda’s ideology.

In April 2010, he published an op-ed at Fox News pleading with the Obama administration to not kill senior Al-Qaeda cleric Anwar al-Awlaki. In June 2010, he attacked the Supreme Court after they upheld the material support for terrorism statute in an op-ed for the Dallas Morning News.

In June 2011, the IRS revoked the 501c3 tax-exempt status of Elibiary’s Freedom and Justice Foundation forfailing to file the required IRS Form 990s over a period of several years, documents which would reveal the source of his organization’s funding.

In October 2011, I reported exclusively here at PJ Media that Elibiary had downloaded sensitive documents by the Texas Dept. of Public Safety from a secure DHS database, and then unsuccessfully tried to shop them to the media claiming then-Gov. Rick Perry was running an “Islamophobic” operation. Despite multiple claims by top DHS officials that an internal investigation exonerated Elibiary, in Sept 2013 DHS admitted in response to the Judicial Watch FOIA request that no records related to any internal investigation existed, prompting members of Congress to claim DHS was engaged in a cover-up. Texas DPS, having conducted their own investigation, severed their relationship with Elibiary.

After 30 million Egyptians took to the streets to remove Muslim Brotherhood president Mohamed Morsi, leading to his ouster, Elibiary added a Muslim Brotherhood logo to his Twitter avatar in solidarity with the extremist Islamic group.

In November 2013, Elibiary took to Twitter to announce that the U.S. was a shariah-compliant Islamic country.

Elibiary continued his hateful focus on the GOP with a recent attack on Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal (R-LA) by calling him a “bottom feeder” who was appealing to southern segregationists (as if these people actually exist in a great number – he also seems to forget that the segregationists were almost exclusively DEMOCRATS).

This isn’t Elibiary’s first hateful tweet aimed at Christian Republicans either. He’s made bigoted comments toward Christians a sort of sport – where each new tweet attempts to “out-bigot” the one before it.

As you can see from the above tweet, Elibiary seems to harbor a special animosity for Coptic Christians. But the next tweet takes that hate to a whole new level – one where he advocates for a group of people who would wipe the Copts from the earth if they could.

Perhaps the most disgusting thing that Elibiary has ever tweeted was this horrible “defense” of the Muslim Brotherhood from back in April of 2014. Elibiary actually said that the only time Egyptians enjoyed freedom and democracy was under the rule of the Muslim Brotherhood… what he neglected to mention was that during their rule, the Brotherhood was persecuting and slaughtering Christians (primarily Coptic Christians)!

Elibiary’s defense of the Muslim Brotherhood is grotesque, but again, it’s just par for the Obama administration’s course. If Obama and his flacks are tired of being called Muslim sympathizers, then perhaps it’s time that they stop employing people who openly advocate for terrorist groups like the Muslim Brotherhood while simultaneously turning their bigoted and hateful tongues on American Christians.”

Rare Cloud Formations attract multitudes in Grand Teton, Wyoming

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — A bizarre sheet of wispy clouds undulating over the Teton Range enchanted tourists and even veteran employees of Grand Teton National Park. Drivers stopped along the park’s main highway Thursday morning to gaze in awe and shoot photos of the rare phenomenon hovering over Grand Teton mountain. At 13,770 feet above sea level, the Grand Teton is the highest point in the Teton Range. The shape-shifting clouds at times appeared like a billowing handkerchief or seagull with its beak touching the mountain’s summit, park spokeswoman Jackie Skaggs said. She first spotted them on her morning drive to work. “I had to make myself pay attention to the road because I was like, ‘Wow, that is really strange,’ ” Skaggs said Friday. The clouds persisted through the morning before finally dissipating in the afternoon. They were lenticular clouds, a type that forms downwind of mountain ranges in certain conditions. Occasionally, lenticular clouds occur as perfectly symmetrical disks, appearing like giant flying saucers and prompting UFO reports. These particular lenticular clouds resulted from an unusual combination of strong wind and moisture between 13,000 and 14,000 feet, said Riverton-based National Weather Service meteorologist Chris Jones, who got wind of the event from several weather spotters. “We see these clouds get shaped both by the topography of the mountain and also the way the air will flow over the mountains,” Jones said. “It was just in the right place at the right time.” Missoulian

Franklin Graham weighs in on Alabama marriagesPosted: 14 Feb 2015 07:29 AM PST

Franklin Graham weighs in on Alabama marriagesChristian evangelist Franklin Graham, who heads both the relief and development group Samaritan’s Purse and the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, has weighed in on the dispute in Alabama on whether courts can order states to acknowledge and support same-sex marriage as they have in dozens of other states.  His Facebook posting takes the dozens of orders from mostly federal judges across the country that have imposed same-sex marriage on populations that voted against the idea and puts them in perspective. “No earthly court has jurisdiction over the infallible Word of God,” he said. Graham noted the U.S. Supreme Court ruled Monday that the state of Alabama must recognize same-sex marriages in spite of that state’s overwhelming vote to prohibit them. Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore is defying the order, asking state probate judges not to issue licenses to gay couples. “I applaud Justice Moore and the many Alabama judges who are upholding the biblical definition of marriage between a man and a woman,” Graham said. Only a handful of states have imposed same-sex marriage by a state court or legislative action. And voters in most of those states voted against allowing or recognizing homosexual marriage. The U.S. Supreme Court, which includes two justices who already publicly have endorsed homosexual marriage by performing ceremonies, is scheduled to hear arguments in a few weeks. Meanwhile, the Alabama Supreme Court on Friday ordered the state’s probate judges, the only ones in the state authorized to issue marriage licenses, to refrain from issuing licenses to same-sex duos. “I am pleased that the Alabama Supreme Court has ordered an expedited briefing and is proceeding on a fast track,” said Mat Staver, chairman of Liberty Counsel, which filed the action. “I suspect we will hear from the Alabama Supreme Court on our petition very soon.” Eight-two percent of the voters in the state affirmed marriage as the union of one man and one woman, but just weeks ago, federal Judge Callie Granade overruled the vote. Liberty Counsel noted that her ruling does not automatically create a law that validates same-sex marriage, as many are claiming, since she lacks the authority to order all probate judges to issue licenses. The law and constitution in Alabama remains that marriage is the union of one man and one woman, Liberty Council explained. Granade herself noted her order did not extend to the probate judges because they were not subject to an action before her court. To satisfy the homosexual plaintiffs in the original lawsuit who told her to find one probate judge in contempt, she reopened the case after it already was decided to add that judge as a defendant, so she could issue an order against him. Staver told WND the precedent is alarming, as the judge was only added to the case after all the briefings, arguments and the decision. MORE

Religious-rights bill puts teeth in 1st AmendmentPosted: 14 Feb 2015 07:25 AM PST

Religious-rights bill puts teeth in 1st Amendment For the first time ever, a bill proposed in the Utah House of Representatives could place freedom of religion above other constitutionally protected rights and recognize religion as a defense against allegations of discrimination. Sponsored by LaVar Christensen, a Republican, and known as the Religious Liberty Recognition and Protection Act, HB 322, would allow people of faith to sue others for imposing on their beliefs. The bill is a bid to give sweeping protection to religious liberties. Analysts say because it goes further than any other state, it may raise significant constitutional issues and be susceptible to a court challenge on multiple fronts. One of the provisions requires “government and private individuals that impose a law or action that substantially burdens another’s religious liberty to balance certain requirements in order to lawfully enforce or recognize the law or action.” “The proposed act may be subject to challenge in court because it expands religious protections to an extent not currently recognized by the courts,” wrote legislative attorney Eric Weeks in the memo obtained by the Salt Lake Tribune. “Consequently, it is impossible to effectively evaluate its constitutionality or its practical effect on the balance between civil rights and the free exercise of religion.” “We are working closely and very carefully to make sure that these protections are fairly applied and balanced for the benefit of all,” said Christensen. Because the measure restricts actions by private entities and individuals that might influence another person’s religious beliefs, many of Christensen’s colleagues are not in favor of the bill. Lawmakers are looking for a way to balance religious liberties and protections from employment and housing discrimination for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender Utahns, after the LDS church called for a pairing of the two. Top leaders of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced last month they supported both the passage of statewide nondiscrimination protections for gay and lesbian Utahns and the religious freedom of those who oppose homosexuality. The LDS church is caught in an intensifying conflict between LGBT advocates and the religious right. MORE

650 Babies Euthanized in the Netherlands Each Year Under Right to Die lawPosted: 14 Feb 2015 06:53 AM PST

650 Babies Euthanized in the Netherlands Each Year Under Right to Die law Just over a decade on from assisted dying being legalised in the Netherlands, as many as 1 in 33 Dutch people are thought to have died this way, including 650 babies a year, euthanized so that their parents don’t have to witness them struggle with disability or disease. The escalation in death by euthanasia over the last six years has led one Dutch ethicist, who had been in favour of the law when it was first passed, to warn “some slopes truly are slippery.” Earlier this week, eighty prominent Britons wrote to the Telegraph calling for a commitment from all the political parties to revisit the question of assisted dying in the next Parliament, if a vote is not taken on the matter before the general election in May. They wrote: “If there is not enough time for the Bill to complete its stages before the general election then it is imperative that Parliament continues this important debate afterwards.

“We are closer than ever to allowing dying people to have safeguarded choice in how they approach their deaths. Whoever forms the next government must allow time for Parliament to reach consensus on a safeguarded law.” The signatories included actors Eric Idle and Hugh Grant, the philosopher AC Grayling, Members of Parliament Caroline Lucas and the Rt Hon Dame Joan Ruddock, and former Archbishop of Canterbury Lord Carey. However, evidence from the Netherlands, where the first assisted dying law was passed in 2002, has shown that, far from being a method of last resort, assisted dying is fast becoming a ‘lifestyle choice’. People who have chosen to die this way include a 47-year-old divorced mother of two who was suffering from tinnitus, a loud ringing in the ears. She left behind a 13-year-old son and a 15-year-old daughter, the Daily Mail has reported. Her mother told the Mail: “Gaby told the children that she was planning to die, she was in pain and there was no cure for her.

“The euthanasia was agreed by doctors and she said her goodbyes and had time to organise her memorial service. She died a month later. Of course the children miss her badly, but they understand her decision.” Although the law was designed to help terminally ill patients have a dignified death, the right to die has also been granted to a growing number of people who are physically healthy but have psychological problems. Official figures show that 13 patients suffering from mental illness were euthanized in 2011; by 2013 this number had risen to 42 patients. And it is not just adults who are being euthanized. According to the Royal Dutch Medical Association, as many as 650 babies are killed by doctors each year because they are deemed to be in pain or facing a life of suffering. Writing in the National Review, Wesley J Smith, senior fellow at the Discovery Institute’s Center on Human Exceptionalism has called on those who support assisted dying to “stop pretending assisted suicide is about terminal illness and admit it is much more about disability–which is why the disability rights movement remains so opposed as they are the primary targets. It is about allowing killing as an acceptable answer to many causes of suffering, whether terminal or chronic disease, disability, mental illness, or existential despair.”

The scale of the deaths has led former supporters of the right to die to change their minds. One such person is the Dutch ethicist Theo Boer, who, in 2007, said “there doesn’t need to be a slippery slope when it comes to euthanasia. A good euthanasia law, in combination with the euthanasia review procedure, provides the warrants for a stable and relatively low number of euthanasia.” However, earlier this year he admitted “Most of my colleagues drew the same conclusion. But we were wrong – terribly wrong, in fact.” Although the numbers of deaths remained steady between 2002 and 2008, even falling back a little in some years, over the last six years there has been an exponential growth in the number of assisted dying cases. 1,882 were euthanized in 2002, and by 2006 the number had barely risen, reaching 1,923. Yet by 2012, 4,188 cases were recorded, and in 2013, nearly 5,000. Figures aren’t yet available for 2014 but are expected to have topped the 6,000 mark.

This is due in no small part to constant pressure from Dutch Right to Die Society (NVVE) to push the boundaries of acceptability. Under Dutch law, GPs can administer injections to end life. The intention was that a person’s GP, who would have a long term doctor-patient relationship with that person, would have the option open as a last resort. However, the NVVE set up a number of travelling euthanasia “End of Life Clinics”, who either euthanize the person or send them away. On average their doctors see a patient just three times before killing them. Full Story

Oil Could Plunge to $20, and This Might Be ‘the End of OPEC’Posted: 14 Feb 2015 06:48 AM PST

Oil Could Plunge to $20, and This Might Be 'the End of OPEC'The recent surge in oil prices is just a “head-fake,” and oil as cheap as $20 a barrel may soon be on the way, Citigroup said in a report on Monday as it lowered its forecast for crude.  Despite global declines in spending that have driven up oil prices in recent weeks, oil production in the U.S. is still rising, wrote Edward Morse, Citigroup’s global head of commodity research. Brazil and Russia are pumping oil at record levels, and Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Iran have been fighting to maintain their market share by cutting prices to Asia. The market is oversupplied, and storage tanks are topping out. A pullback in production isn’t likely until the third quarter, Morse said. In the meantime, West Texas Intermediate Crude, which currently trades at around $52 a barrel, could fall to the $20 range “for a while,” according to the report. The U.S. shale-oil revolution has broken OPEC’s ability to manipulate prices and maximize profits for oil-producing countries.”It looks exceedingly unlikely for OPEC to return to its old way of doing business,” Morse wrote. “While many analysts have seen in past market crises ‘the end of OPEC,’ this time around might well be different,” Morse said. Citi reduced its annual forecast for Brent crude for the second time in 2015. Prices in the $45-$55 range are unsustainable and will trigger “disinvestment from oil” and a fourth-quarter rebound to $75 a barrel, according to the report. Prices this year will likely average $54 a barrel. BLOOMBERG

US sending around 600 paratroopers to Ukraine to train troopsPosted: 13 Feb 2015 08:54 PM PST

US sending around 600 paratroopers to Ukraine to train troopsA battalion of around 600 American paratroopers will be heading to Ukraine next month to train national guard troops there, a Pentagon spokesman told Fox News Wednesday. The unit heading to the war-torn country is from the U.S. Army’s 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team, based out of Vicenza, Italy. The training is to take place at the Yavariv training center in the western Ukrainian city of Lviv, U.S. Army Europe Commander Lt. Gen. Ben Hodges said, according to The Associated Press. Hodges said the Americans will train the Ukrainians how to better defend themselves against “Russian and rebel artillery and rockets.” Training also will include securing roads, bridges and other infrastructure and treating and evacuating casualties. He spoke during a visit to NATO’s Multinational Corps Northeast Headquarters in the Polish city of Szczecin. The announcement came as fighting raged in eastern Ukraine Wednesday, killing five people at a bus station in the rebel stronghold of Donetsk. Western leaders confirmed that they would take part in peace talks later in the day. Steffen Seibert, a spokesman for German Chancellor Angela Merkel, said she and French President Francois Hollande would travel to the Belarusian capital, Minsk, to attend the four-way summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko. European leaders have warned that there is no guarantee a deal will be reached with Moscow, which the West says is fueling a separatist rising in eastern Ukraine with troops and arms. Germany and France have rushed to mediate after a recent uptick in violence in the region, where fighting has killed at least 5,300 people since April.

In Donetsk, rebel officials said that five people were killed and nine wounded in a shelling attack early Wednesday on a bus station, where an Associated Press reporter saw one body. Donetsk city officials said in a statement that three people had been killed in shelling overnight. Officials in Kiev said Wednesday that 19 troops had been killed and 78 wounded in a day of fighting in Debaltseve, a hotly contested transport hub in the region. Poroshenko posted a statement on his website saying that he had made an impromptu visit to the region early Wednesday. He stopped in the city of Kramatorsk, some 30 miles from the nearest front line, where Kiev says 16 people were killed and 48 wounded in a rocket strike Tuesday. “We demand an unconditional peace,” Poroshenko said. “We demand a cease-fire, a withdrawal of all foreign troops, and closing of the border…. We will find a compromise within the country.”

Later, in comments carried by Interfax-Ukraine news agency, Poroshenko said he was “ready to impose martial law across the country if we are not able to reach an agreement today in Minsk.” At a news conference in Moscow, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that there was “notable progress” in the peace process, but gave no details. Lavrov said the most important goal of the talks would be to implement a cease-fire, and that it would be impossible for Ukraine to re-establish its control over the border with Russia. “In these conditions, to give away the Russian part of the border also would be to cut them [the rebels] off even from humanitarian help and allow them to be surrounded,” Lavrov said. French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius said early Wednesday that “quite a number of problems remain” in negotiations, including the future of eastern Ukraine, guarantees about the Ukraine-Russia border, and the prospects of a possible cease-fire, weapons pullback and prisoner exchange. Fabius said the aim of the talks is to win an accord, but “not just one on paper.” Fox News

Prepare For Stocks To Drop 50%Posted: 13 Feb 2015 08:29 PM PST

Prepare For Stocks To Drop 50%It is only a matter of time before the stock market plunges by 50% or more, according to several reputable experts. “We have no right to be surprised by a severe and imminent stock market crash,” explains Mark Spitznagel, a hedge fund manager who is notorious for his hugely profitable billion-dollar bet on the 2008 crisis. “In fact, we must absolutely expect it.” Unfortunately Spitznagel isn’t alone. “We are in a gigantic financial asset bubble,” warns Swiss adviser and fund manager Marc Faber. “It could burst any day.” Faber doesn’t hesitate to put the blame squarely on President Obama’s big-government policies and the Federal Reserve’s risky low-rate policies, which, he says, “penalize the income earners, the savers who save, your parents — why should your parents be forced to speculate in stocks and in real estate and everything under the sun?” Billion-dollar investor Warren Buffett is rumored to be preparing for a crash as well. The “Warren Buffett Indicator,” also known as the “Total Market Cap to GDP Ratio,” is breaching sell-alert status and a collapse may happen at any moment. So with an inevitable crash looming, what are Main Street investors to do? One option is to sell all your stocks and stuff your money under the mattress, and another option is to risk everything and ride out the storm. But according to Sean Hyman, founder of Absolute Profits, there is a third option. “There are specific sectors of the market that are all but guaranteed to perform well during the next few months,” Hyman explains. “Getting out of stocks now could be costly.” How can Hyman be so sure? He has access to a secret Wall Street calendar that has beaten the overall market by 250% since 1968. This calendar simply lists 19 investments (based on sectors of the market) and 38 dates to buy and sell them, and by doing so, one could turn $1,000 into as much as $178,000 in a 20-year time frame. God’s covenant with Abraham – what theologians call “The Abrahamic Covenant” – is an unconditional covenant. Through the years God reiterates and expands it, but He never changes the unconditional nature of it. Indeed, He cannot change it or He would be a liar and the Bible says in Titus 1:2 and elsewhere, “God… cannot lie.”

President Obama, Historian and Theologian, Ross Douthat, NY Times. There were a number of statements that our nation’s leader made at the National Prayer Breakfast a couple weeks ago, many of which got under the skin of conservative Christians. This is more than the usual belly-aching, as Douthat points out. Obama practiced the old art of using “self-criticism” to actually point his finger at his opponents. He’s not the only one to do that, of course. But it’s a helpful lesson for us: if you’re going to criticize yourself, have the courage to criticize something you actually stand for.

Bema Seat And Judgment Seat

Q&A-chalkboard

Q. I know that there is a judgment seat of Christ and a Great White Throne Judgment in the Bible.  Years ago I recall my Grandfather talking about a Bema Seat Judgment, but I can find nothing in my King James Version about it.  He spoke of its meaning as the same as the Judgment Seat of Christ.  Do you know anything about this?

Q&A-chalkboard

Q.  Re: 1 John 3:6-10.  The Bible speaks clearly here that if a person continues to sin after having obviously made a genuine profession of faith and demonstrated it for years and who is deeply spiritual, that he is lost. How can that be since the person’s prior walk demonstrated very clearly that he was saved.  In fact in spite of sexual immorality the person continues to preach the clear gospel. But since he keeps on sinning this passage says he has never known Christ and the man is positive that he has known him.

Truth-Telling and the News Media

NBC announced Tuesday that it suspended its lead news anchor Brian Williams for six months without pay. Network brass concluded that Williams embellished his experiences covering stories over the years; most notably that he was in a U.S. Army helicopter that was hit by enemy fire during the Iraq War in 2003.I’ve taken more than a passing interest in the story since I share a couple of things in common with Mr. Williams. First, before coming to Ligonier Ministries, I spent nineteen years in a position similar to his, as the lead news anchor for the Christian Broadcasting Network. Second, during an earlier stint as a news anchor for a local station in Jacksonville, Florida, I was suspended without pay. Station management didn’t take kindly to me telling a group of politically active Christians that I believed the news media had a bias against them. So, I can relate to Brian when he admits, “I am presently too much a part of the news.” Some observations regarding the current controversy:

Telling the whole truth

As much as I applaud NBC News for its desire to get to the bottom of this controversy and protect its reputation, I would argue the news media’s problem goes far beyond a news anchor’s embellishment of his wartime experiences. If we’re going to hold one man accountable, let’s also hold every news organization in this country accountable for their failure to tell us the truth about a number of stories, particularly abortion.

It’s my opinion that the bias of many network news organizations exists, not just in the stories they cover, but ones they refuse to cover. It is shameful that none of the networks have told us the truth about the physical and emotional pain caused by the slaughter of millions of unborn babies in this country.

Information vs. Wisdom

Let me encourage you to try an experiment. Watch any newscast on any network tonight and take an inventory of the stories covered. Then ask yourself this question: “How many of these stories have a real bearing on my life?” I suspect your answer will be, “Very few.”

Sola Sisters: Pastor Matthew Trewhella: “Tyrannicide – To Kill A Tyrant”

Posted by Christine Pack

Justin Edwards of airō website has just recently published an excellent article entitled Christian Submission vs Belligerent Discontentment Before Civil Authorities. The article is about Theonomist Matthew Trewhella, and his views on how Christians should live under tyranny. As a side note, Theonomy as a movement within Christendom continues to gather steam and roll along, so I’m glad we have a few Christian men today who are aware of it, and are willing to publicly oppose their views.

Pornography: How It Works and How To Reverse Its Effects (Part 2)

“The work of God in salvation begins a definitive work in us whereby we progress in our sanctification and thus desire all sin, porn included, less and less over time. The Day God Spoke To Katy Perry

“Did God speak to Katy Perry? Does he tell the televangelist to raise money? Did a little boy have a transcendent experience of heaven? If so, we’re compelled to listen. Advice For A New Elder

“As a new elder you will likely feel the pressure to “prove yourself.” Don’t fall into this trap. Jesus has called you to serve, and the church has recognized this calling. The Swimsuit Issue and the Failure of Egalitarianism

“Egalitarianism is the flattening out of differences. It tries to destroy hierarchy in the name of “all men being equal.” In reality it is a fight against gravity, against the way God made the world. One would assume in world devoted to the “advancement of women” that the Swimsuit Issue would slowly fade away and become a relic of a bygone era of male domination.”

Is Your Marriage A Picture Of The Gospel?

“If our marriages aren’t filled with kindness and joy, why would anyone want what we offer? But when they see in us a mutual delight, a gentle and easy trust in one another, they can’t help but ask, “What’s your secret?” And we can tell them that it’s no secret at all. It’s Jesus.”

Obama on Marriage: Bigot or Liar?

But progressives who attack those who disagree with them about marriage as “bigots” should not be able to get away with this smear while simultaneously giving liberal politicians such as Barack Obama a pass. They need to give us an answer: If opposing the redefinition of marriage is bigotry, then what is Barack Obama, a bigot or a liar?

Christians, Crime and the Death Penalty

by Bill Muehlenberg

Ideally, controversial issues should be discussed with careful, logical assessment, with an eye to the facts, and in the case of Christians, with the biblical worldview fully in place. But sadly this is often not the case, and what we tend to get are kneejerk reactions, emotional outpourings, and angry responses – even from Christians at times.

Issues like the death penalty will certainly see such reactions coming forth. And with a very public case now fully in the news, there is plenty of this occurring at the moment. But since so much fuzzy thinking, unbiblical thinking, and downright anti-biblical thinking is being thrown around over this case, let me try to state once more a few basic biblical principles which we must not lose sight of as we think about such cases.

Q & A: DID THE MIRACLES DESCRIBED IN THE BIBLE REALLY HAPPEN?

by Michael Minot

Question: Did the miracles described in the Bible really happen?

My Response: The position skeptics hold is that miracles aren’t possible. They believe the laws of nature are unchangeable and always perform in predictable ways.Because of this skeptics dismiss all of what the Scriptures say, from the beginning to the end, claiming the accounts of these “inconceivable events” taint the entire work.

But most of the hundreds of documented miracles were claimed to be observed by many people. For example, the Bible describes how a man’s walking stick changed into a snake before many witnesses (Exodus 7:10-12). Later, possibly thousands of others witnessed that same stick budding a flower (Numbers 17:1-5). In a different time and place, with many inhabitants inside, the walls of a city fell flat when the attacking army merely gave a great shout (Joshua 2:1-11). On another occasion, after one man died from the heat while standing too close to a fiery pit, three other men, to the amazement of many onlookers, emerged from the middle of the pit unsinged (Daniel 3:19-27).

Some of the more recent miracles documented in Scripture were performed by Jesus—thirty-seven recorded in all.

A review of the biblical accounts of Jesus’ miracles reveals that He almost always performed them in the midst of large crowds or that the results became known to many people. Here’s a few examples.

The first involves the account of the healing of a paralyzed man. The Scriptures claim that Jesus was teaching in one of the houses in Capernaum after returning from healing many people of their various sicknesses and diseases in the surrounding villages. By this time, people from all over Galilee and Judea, including some Pharisees, had come to investigate reports of Jesus’ healing powers. Four men carrying a paralyzed man on a stretcher attempted to reach Jesus. After being unable to reach Him because of the crowds, they carried the man upstairs to the roof of the house where Jesus was teaching and let him down through an opening in the roof. After Jesus healed the paralyzed man, the man stood up, picked up his bed and walked out of the house glorifying God…

When the New Christian Left Twists the Gospel and Perverts Morality

by Dave Sterrett

Almost a decade ago, I remember attending Catalyst Conference in Atlanta, packed with thousands of young evangelical leaders. It was there, that I first heard a young creative pastor named Rob Bell, pastor of the fast growing Mars Hill in Michigan. At the age of 25, I was finishing up seminary, but felt rejuvenated when I heard the line up of Catalyst speakers like Rob Bell, Donald Miller, and Andy Stanley. These teachers were creative but avoiding a lot of the controversial doctrinal issues that I heard from my alma mater Liberty University’s founder Jerry Falwell.

Rob Bell and these Catalyst communicators did not have pulpits, but were either walking, or sitting in comfortable chairs and bar stools. They weren’t talking about politics, or hell, or inerrancy of Scripture, or homosexuality and certainly not abortion. By no means were these guys like James Dobson or Falwell’s Moral Majority.

To me, their teaching seemed like a breath of fresh air compared to the dry doctrine. I felt burnt out on from seminary. There was excitement like the energy of a concert. I was not alone, thousands of those who grew up in non-denominational, Southern Baptist or Church of God congregations were drawn to this new kind of Church. Out of this generation, some sons and daughters of conservative Bible expositors, including Andy Stanley, Jonathan Merritt and Rachel Held Evans would drift away from their father’s evangelical fundamentalism and rise up to become today’s defenders of tolerance, social justice and gay “rights” at bakeries.

Ten years ago, at my first Catalyst conference, I did not agree with everything these younger communicators were saying, but I thought perhaps they could bring more balance. Weren’t these guys like Rob Bell and Donald Miller authentic by asking questions? We were the generation that was more about what we were “for” and not “against.” After all, there was no need for me to also always be discussing controversial things like abortion, gay marriage, doctrine and apologetics. In my young ignorance and piety, I told myself that I appreciated their “tone.”

So as a 25-year-old senior pastor of the SBC Immanuel Baptist Church, I got rid of the pulpit, bought some skinnier jeans began showing Rob Bell’s Nooma videos to the church on Wednesday nights. As I sipped on my Starbuck’s latte and saw an excitement from younger people, I felt relevant. I thought Bell’s teaching was authentic and fresh. But as time passed, I noticed things that concerned me…

Evangelicalism in Crisis?

Alas, “gay evangelicals” fail to recognize the “D-Day” face-off between the only two worldviews on offer and the cosmological significance of Twoism, both for theology (the nature of God) and sexuality (the nature of humanity, made in God’s image). They ignore the place homosexuals have played in pagan religion, as perfectly-adapted shamans throughout the millennia. Without a theological understanding of these issues, the future of the evangelical church in certain parts will be severely compromised.

Will the Real Bonhoeffer Please Stand Up? Part 1

My contact with Bonhoeffer centered primarily on his most evangelical works until I had to choose a thesis topic for the Master of Sacred Theology degree. I finally decided on the Christological substructures of Bonhoeffer’s Life Together. It was a topic that forced me to read wider in Bonheoffer’s corpus. And while working on that thesis I found myself face to face with what appeared to be two different Bonhoeffers; one that was very warmly pietistic and evangelical and the other a liberal German theologian.

Sin, Sleaze and Hyper Grace

by Bill Muehlenberg

One of the biggest problems in the Christian church in the West today is that of antinomianism. The Greek word for law is nomos, and most folks know what the prefix anti means, so this term basically means “against the law” or just plain “lawlessness”

The term can have various meanings, but theologically speaking it has to do with the belief that the Christian has no real obligation to, or involvement with, God’s law and righteousness. Because we are saved by grace alone, we are no longer under the law in any form, and we need not worry about the law and its demands.

Standing Firm in a Scary World

Christian Living for Women

image

This week I have seen so much talk by Christians about Fifty Shades of Grey. Outrage would probably be a better term. I don’t want to discuss the book or the film. In all honesty I am sick of hearing about it. But it does bring to attention an ever pressing matter as to how Christians are to deal with the increasing level of depravity that surrounds us. It is no small matter, we are effected by it, our children are bombarded with it and it’s not just sexual either. News reports of a child beating a baby to death, a girl kidnapped and found dead, people being killed answering ads on craigslist. It just goes on and on…. These matters are not to be taken lightly but they should not overwhelm us either. To deny the increasing movement away from godly conduct in our society would be foolish. But…

What Does President Obama Really Believe?

Eradicate: Blotting Out God in America

obama at prayer brkfst National Prayer Breakfast 2015, USNews photo

The Bible is not ambiguous, but hearing President Obama talk about religion sure can be confusing. Too many American citizens – including people of faith – voted for a man that has become the most divisive and anti-Christian president in our history without knowing much about him. We took him at his word and failed to research the facts.

He professes to be a Christian and yet he doesn’t believe Jesus is God; he is uncertain about Heaven and Hell, takes Scripture out of context, criticizes evangelicals and conservatives, and draws equally from many faiths. He has also shown disrespect for the Founding Fathers while publicly supporting or defending Muslim nations. In Cairo in 2009, the President said “Islam has a proud tradition of tolerance.”

It happened again at the 2015 National Prayer Breakfast, not an appropriate venue to lie about Christianity in order…

Stephen C. Meyer: does the Big Bang cosmology support the existence of God?

WINTERY KNIGHT

Here’s the 66-minute video featuring Dr. Stephen C. Meyer, who holds the Ph.D in philosophy of science from Cambridge University, and other degrees in the hard sciences.

The lecture starts really, really slowly. You can just fast-forward to the 12 minute mark, or you might die of boredom.

Topics:

  • Up until the the last 100 years or so, everyone agreed that the universe was eternal
  • This is at odds with the traditional Christian view that God created the universe
  • Materialism, the view that matter is all there is, requires eternally existing matter
  • Discovery #1: Hubble discovers that the universe is expanding (redshift observation)
  • The expanding universe was resisted by proponents of the eternal universe, like Einstein
  • Some naturalists even proposed speculative static models like the steady-state model
  • However, not of the speculative models fit with observations and experimental results
  • Discovery #2: Penzias and Wilson discover the cosmic microwave background radiation

The Southern Baptist Convention: A Denomination in Tatters

Polemics Report

“He who is faithful in a very little thing is faithful also in much; and he who is unrighteous in a very little thing is unrighteous also in much.” Luke 16:10

What has happened to the Southern Baptist Convention? What is perhaps the United States’ last biblically faithful and conservative denomination is sliding precipitously towards ruin. It’s time to put a stop to this degradation. Why should any Christian give another dime to broadly support its programs?

As Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore boldly defies and oppressive federal government that is hellbent on recognizing, solemnizing, and normalizing the abomination that is homosexual activity, Southern Baptist Convention Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission President Russell Moore suggests the Justice should resign. Russell Moore’s six figure salary is paid by the tithes and offerings put in the plates at Southern Baptist Churches Across America.

Douglas Wilson Schools, Scolds Russell Moore

Polemics Report

Douglas Wilson, renowned theologian, pastor, apologist and sometimes-debater has taken notice of Russell Moore’s “new tone” on homosexuality. Moore, who first gave us the green light to attend gay wedding celebrations after the service to watch them stuff cake in each other’s mouths and open gifts for their sodomy-centered life together (but not the service itself, because of some inexplicable reason Moore has never fully articulated) and has broken bread with homosexuals to “build bridges and foster relationships” and now waves his wagging finger at Alabama judges refusing to issue gay marriage licenses because they’re told to by a federal court that may or may not have authority to issue such a decree.

Wilson takes on Moore’s lecture to the Alabama judges, and Moore himself, by characterizing him as someone who has “brought a knife to a gunfight.” Wilson’s challenge is, in essence, that Moore clearly doesn’t understand the issue here…

There Are No Degrees In Justification

The Reformed Reader

https://reformedreader.files.wordpress.com/2015/02/30f39-holinessbyjcryle2.jpg Christians sometimes have a tendency to make the “gate” or “way” more narrow than Jesus made it (Matt. 7:13).  Not only is this sinful and arrogant, it also portrays the Lord as strict, harsh, unmerciful, and unkind – when in reality he is gentle, meek, merciful, and full of loving-kindness beyond our comprehension.  I appreciate how J. C. Ryle said it (emphases his):

“Never, never let us curtail the freeness of the glorious gospel, or clip its fair proportions. Never let us make the gate more strait, and the way more narrow than pride or love of sin have made it already. The Lord Jesus is very pitiful and of tender mercy. He does not regard the quantity of faith, but the quality: He does not measure its degree, but its truth. He will not break any bruised reed, nor quench any smoking flax. He will never let it…

William Lane Craig lectures on naturalistic alternatives to the Big Bang

WINTERY KNIGHT

Here’s the lecture, which was given in 2004 at the University of Colorado, Boulder.

This lecture might be a little advanced for beginners, but if you stretch your mind first, you shouldn’t tear anything. (Note: standard disclaimers apply if you do tear something!)

The description of the video states:

This is quite simply one of the best lectures William Lane Craig (a philosopher of science) has given. Craig explores the origins of the universe. He argues for a beginning of the universe, while refuting scientific models like the Steady State Theory, the Oscillating Theory, Quantum Vacuum Fluctuation Model, Chaotic Inflationary Theory, Quantum Gravity Theory, String Theory, M-Theory and Cyclic Ekpyrotic Theory.

And here is the description of the lecture from Reasonable Faith:

A Templeton Foundation lecture at the University of Colorado, Boulder, laying out the case from contemporary cosmology for the beginning of the universe and its theological implications. Includes…
