TOP 5 RIGHT HOOKS

Yep, Bergdahl Deserted

Bowe Bergdahl, the Army Pfc. taken “captive” by the Taliban but freed in exchange for five Taliban Gitmo detainees, will be charged with desertion. Bergdahl deserted his post in 2009 under cover of darkness, carrying with him a knife, a compass, a camera, a diary and some water. Shortly thereafter, he was “captured” by the Taliban, though the Pentagon never classified him as a POW. At least six Americans lost their lives searching for him. Barack Obama insisted then, “Regardless of the circumstances … we still get an American soldier back if he’s held in captivity. Period.” He rightly took it on the chin for the foolish exchange and his stubbornness, and the news of the charges, which come after a months-long investigation, is no surprise. On the other hand, one might be surprised the whole thing wasn’t swept under the rug precisely because it’s such an embarrassment for the commander in chief. The administration defended the swap earnestly at the time, with National Security Advisor Susan Rice insisting Bergdahl served “with honor and distinction.” It’s even more obvious now that he didn’t. But the important thing for Obama was never bringing one of our boys home; it was emptying Guantanamo Bay. If he has to, as he put it, “whittle away” one prisoner swap at a time, so be it. Oh, and the released Taliban commanders are eager to rejoin the battlefield when their year in Qatar is up. But not to worry; State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki says, “Was it worth it? Absolutely.”

Meanwhile, everyone knows Bergdahl’s name. But how many know the names of the six men who died looking for him? Their names are Pfc. Matthew Michael Martinek, Staff Sgt. Kurt Robert Curtiss, Staff Sgt. Clayton Bowen, Pfc. Morris Walker, Staff Sgt. Michael Chance Murphrey and Second Lt. Darryn Andrews.

Saudi Arabia Bombed Yemen and It Can Get Worse

Yemen’s president is in hiding. Classified files from the U.S. Drone program have been seized and handed to Iran. Yemen lies in shambles as al-Qaida, ISIL and rebel groups aligned with Iran wage war. In response, Saudi Arabia pounded its southern neighbor, Yemen, through the night with 100 jets in an effort to loosen the hold the Iranian-backed Houthi rebels have on the country. It’s a move that could spark a proxy war split along sectarian lines. Ten countries supported Saudi Arabia in its campaign, with some like Egypt pledging naval and troop support. The United States also provided intelligence to the Royal Saudi Air Force. But Javid Zarif, Iran’s foreign minister, paused in negotiating with the U.S. over the nuclear deal to state, “The Saudi-led air strikes should stop immediately and it is against Yemen’s sovereignty. We will make all efforts to control crisis in Yemen.” Of all the failed states in the Middle East, Yemen may prove to be the worst, as several nations are pledging military action. And where’s Obama? He’s a butterfly flittering through a hurricane. He still thinks Yemen is a model for U.S. foreign policy success. More…

U.S. Airpower to Support Iranian Forces in ISIL Fight

In Middle East diplomacy, the United States is working seemingly with two different Irans. Sure, there’s the Iran that is backing Houthi rebels in Yemen, that chants “death to America.” But then there’s the Iran that sent troops to fight ISIL in Iraq, and with which the United States is working. Recently, the U.S. military has directed its air power to the Iraqi city of Tikrit, where the Iraqi Army and the Iranian military have stalled in their offensive against ISIL positions. It requires some sort of coordination with Iran, even if only means Iraqi soldiers telling U.S. intelligence where Iranian soldiers are positioned. National Review’s Jim Geraghty wrote this morning, “So we’re offering logistical help to our allies to help them fight Iranian proxies… while we’re helping Iranian forces in Iraq against ISIS… while we’re attempting to reach agreement with the Iranians on their nuclear ambitions.” That pretty much sums up Barack Obama’s foreign policy bungle. The New York Times suggests this arrangement is yet another effort to gain influence with the Iraqi military over Iran’s jockeying. There’s only one Iran with one vision for how its relationship with the United States will develop. The Obama administration better figure out what Iran wants before it gets burned. More…

ObamaCare, Year Five: ‘It’s Working’?

Five years after ObamaCare became the “law of the land,” as Democrats like to remind us, Barack Obama says it’s running smoothly. “This law is saving money for families and for businesses. This law is also saving lives. It’s working, despite countless attempts to repeal, undermine, defund and defame this law,” Obama boasted Wednesday. “It’s not the ‘job-killer’ that critics have warned about for five years.” That is unless you’re one of the millions of people who are being given less work because of the health care law. According to a report in the Washington Examiner, “A new survey by the Society of Human Resource Management released Tuesday found about 14 percent of businesses have reduced part-time hours and another 6 percent plan to do so.” That figure will only rise as employers will be forced to offer insurance to a greater percentage of workers over the coming years. But no matter, a haughty Obama sneered: “We have been promised a lot of things in the past five years that didn’t turn out to be the case — death panels, doom, a serious alternative from Republicans in Congress.” Just because the law hasn’t yet imploded says absolutely nothing about its long-term sustainability. Indeed, it’s like watching a train wreck in slow motion. And Republicans have offered alternatives; the problem is that Democrats treat free-market solutions as a joke. Obama also added, “It’s not the fiscal disaster critics warned about for five years.” Actually, the Congressional Budget Office lowered projected cost estimates because overall enrollment was less than projected. Just a minor caveat.

Bob Costas Resumes Assault on Second Amendment, Framers

Bob Costas, the longtime sportscaster turned outspoken gun control advocate, visited with HBO’s Bill Maher where he inevitably resumed his assault on the Second Amendment and took a shot at America’s Founders. Recalling last year’s domestic violence dispute involving pro football player Greg Hardy, Costas exclaimed, “He threw [his girlfriend] on a couch with loaded shotguns and assault weapons on the couch,” as if the mere presence of firearms made Hardy do it. “Now, is this what the Founding Fathers had in mind?” he continued. “That Greg Hardy should be armed to the teeth? That private citizens should be able to purchase cop-killer, armor-piercing bullets? That you should be able to have an AK-47? I mean, carry it to its logical conclusion: If you’re fearful of a tyrannical government taking away your rights as a citizen, then you oughta have a bazooka. You oughta have a tank. You oughta be able to have nuclear weapons if you can get them before ISIS can get their hands on them.” Now, to his credit, Costas did lash out against political correctness, even among fellow liberals — right after his politically correct attack on the Second Amendment. We’re all entitled to our own opinions, of course. But when it comes to voicing those views on public platforms, leftists have the benefit of avoiding censorship.

RIGHT ANALYSIS

U.S., Israel and Iran: Three’s a Crowd

2015-03-26-10984202_large.jpg

As if meddling in Israel’s elections with an aim to oust Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu wasn’t enough for Barack Obama, in the wake of Netanyahu’s win — and Obama’s loss — the White House has accused Israel of spying on U.S.-Iran nuclear talks. The Wall Street Journal reported this week that current and former U.S. officials claim the spying was part of a larger effort by Netanyahu to gather information on the negotiations in order to build a case against the deal.

Ever the sore loser, Obama, while sidling up to Iran, is apparently hoping to paint our closest ally in the Middle East as the enemy. Ironically, the U.S. learned of this purported spying — wait for it — by spying on Israel. That’s right. The Journal reports, “The White House discovered the operation, in fact, when U.S. intelligence agencies spying on Israel intercepted communications among Israeli officials that carried details the U.S. believed could have come only from access to the confidential talks, officials briefed on the matter said.”

The truth, though, as political analyst Charles Krauthammer points out, is that “the Israelis could easily have gotten it from eavesdropping on the Iranians, and might have gotten it openly from the French, who are in the talks and are quite dismayed by how much Obama and the White House have given away in these negotiations.”

For its part, Israel has denied spying on the U.S., and given Obama’s well-documented penchant for lies, one more added to the mix would hardly be a surprise.

Despite Obama’s huff and bluster, it appears he’s less concerned with spying and more ruffled that Israel might have shared information on the negotiations with Congress. As one senior U.S. official said, “It is one thing for the U.S. and Israel to spy on each other. It is another thing for Israel to steal U.S. secrets and play them back to U.S. legislators to undermine U.S. diplomacy.” Yes, this must be bad for The Most Transparent Administration in History%trade;, which would rather keep Congress in the dark when it comes to negotiating a nuclear deal with a nation whose leader repeatedly says, “Death to America.” Whatever would make us think Congress should be made aware?

And about that Iranian chant, CNN White House correspondent Jim Acosta confronted the administration earlier this week, asking Obama press secretary Josh Earnest why his boss trusts Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who as recently as this past weekend said in a public address, “Death to America.” Earnest ridiculously responded that this is the exact reason negotiations are needed to secure a commitment from Iran to stop the nation from getting nuclear weapons. Of course, this administration would do well to remember just how little “commitments” mean to Iran.

But it doesn’t end there. According to National Journal’s Josh Kraushaar, the White House went on to justify Khamenei’s statement by saying it was “intended for a domestic political audience.” Thank goodness. We thought it was intended for a nation intent on developing nuclear weapons.

Obama’s determination to alienate Israel and equal intent to coddle Iranian terrorists is disturbing to say the least and reveals where his allegiance truly lies. So irate is he over Netanyahu’s re-election and so determined to appease the Iranians that he is not only justifying cheers for America’s demise and threatening to end U.S. support for Israel at the United Nations but also adopting Palestinian talking points regarding Israel. On Monday, White House Chief of Staff Denis McDonough claimed in a speech to the left-leaning J-Street, an anti-Israel Jewish lobbying group, that “an occupation that has lasted for almost 50 years must end.” That the administration would parrot Palestinian claims against Israel — claims emanating from the same source that regularly launches rockets against Israel — is without excuse.

Many have questioned whose side Obama is on, but the time for questioning is far past. By demonstrating his utter disdain for America’s closest and most faithful ally in the Middle East, Obama has made his loyalties clear. It’s now up to Congress and the American people to prevent 2015 from marking the year America turned its back on Israel — and the world.

Imperfect Reform at the VA

2015-03-26-e6757e55_large.jpg
Recovering at a Tampa VA hospital

It’s barely a year since Congress passed legislation to reform the Department of Veterans Affairs, and already we see just how imperfect that reform actually was. The Senate’s Committee on Veterans’ Affairs met with deputy VA Deputy Secretary Sloan Gibson this to iron out reforms. One reform would allow veterans to seek private medical care if they live a certain distance from a VA care facility through the Choice Card program.

A 2014 law stipulates veterans who live 40 miles as the crow flies from a VA clinic of any kind cannot seek private help. They have to go to the government-run clinic.

After the hearing, the department and the committee announced that it has smoothed over the discrepancy. The VA said it would educate veterans about the Choice Card program, and that veterans can seek private medical attention — paid for by the VA — if they have to travel more than 40 miles to get to a VA clinic that handles the procedures they need.

But while this minor speed bump has been leveled, a whole crop of new scandals has risen up in the department.

The VA faces the ire of the chairman of the House Veterans’ Committee because it squandered funds rebuilding the Denver VA Hospital. Budgeted at $328 million, the lone hospital ballooned to over $2.73 billion with no end in sight to the project.

Oh sure, on the surface everything looks peachy. Barack Obama announced the formation of an advisory committee to study the department and suggest reforms. Another day, another study committee is thrown at another government problem.

House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs Chairman Jeff Miller (R-FL) said in a statement, “I’m concerned the administration’s decision to convene an advisory committee composed of outside experts to help improve VA services is a duplicative step that misses the mark. The Veterans Access, Choice and Accountability Act, which the president signed last August, already mandates two top-to-bottom reviews of VA’s health care system.”

And the agency’s inspector general is set to lay into the Philadelphia VA Hospital. According to The Washington Times, the IG will release a report in the coming months accusing the hospital of things like unprocessed claims in its pension management center.

This is what it’s like to reform a large government agency — even after an administration change that vowed to hand out pink slips like confetti. And the 40-mile rule, while it’s about the closest we can probably get to a free market at the bureaucracy, it’s a Band-Aid atop a Band-Aid. How many do we have to apply before we call the whole department fixed?

The nation has a responsibility to take care of veterans injured in her wars — that’s just. Even going back to the Revolutionary War, the Continental Congress promised pensions for Patriots who took up arms against the British and were wounded on the battlefield.

But for as long as veterans have returned from the battlefield, inflicted with wounds from Minie Balls to Agent Orange to PSTD, corruption and bureaucracy have tainted the nation’s care for them. CNN reports that because the states were responsible for paying out pensions after the Revolutionary War, only a few thousand veterans got paid.

When the VA was first created by consolidating several government programs — through a Herbert Hoover executive order in 1930 — it was already festering and the scandals only multiplied as the government expanded.

A decade earlier, after Warren Harding created the Veterans’ Bureau, he appointed Charles Forbes, a friend of his who used every corruption trick in the book to wring money from the fledgling organization, from taking bribes to snatching up land where the VA wanted to build hospitals. Forbes, unlike bureaucrats today, ended up serving time in jail.

Today, everybody is riding the cash cow. Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee Chairman Johnny Isakson (R-GA) said in a statement after the 40-mile rule was ironed out, “The Senate VA Committee’s job, and the members of the Senate’s job, is to get more money if we need to; it is not to make excuses as to why we can’t do things for our veterans.”

And veterans expect the government to keep its promises, even if it’s swimming in corruption and waste. Roscoe Butler, deputy director for health care at The American Legion, told the committee, “The American Legion still strongly believes the VA is the best method for delivering care to veterans. However, we also recognize there are constraints VA must overcome, such as geography and workload that sometimes make this difficult.”

Gee, why couldn’t the private health care system also deliver care whenever and wherever the veterans need it?

Enough of this. It’s time to stop pretending that the VA health care system can ever work. Abolish the whole thing. Sell the hospitals and the Community-Based Outpatient Clinics. Put the money into an endowment for the men and women coming back from war and let them choose when and where they receive care.

Back when the wait-time scandal was still boiling, Mark Alexander wrote, “The VA is a case study in failed government health care delivery — there is no effective way to implement accountability in these huge government bureaucracies. … [T]he VA case study has significant implications for the future of ObamaCare and the Democrats’ ultimate goal of central government managed distribution and delivery of health care services across our nation.”

It is time for the VA to step aside from providing health care to veterans. Think of it this way: Do we really think a bloated bureaucracy is the best way to serve American Patriots?

OPINION IN BRIEF

French lawyer Montesquieu (1689-1755): “Republics end through luxury; monarchies through poverty”

Historian Victor Davis Hanson: “If Obama somehow manages to scare the Iranians into a treaty, he surely will not credit the senators for allowing him the leverage to play good cop to Sen. Cotton’s bad cop. More likely, the Munich-like agreement will fail in the face of outrageous Iranian demands and an even more outraged American public. When it does, Obama will then blame Cotton and his Republican colleagues for undermining his doomed efforts. Such scapegoating is now old hat for Obama, who has blamed factors ranging from George W. Bush to tsunamis for his foreign policy and domestic failures. Republicans, Democrats and all Americans should thank Cotton for reminding the Iranians that under the U.S. Constitution, the Senate must ratify treaties with foreign powers. Cotton will get no credit if the Iranians get worried over his letter, relent and offer needed concessions. But Cotton will endure plenty of blame if Iranian negotiators walk away in fury because a skeptical U.S. Senate would have to approve any sweetheart deal that they pulled over on Obama. In other words, Cotton is not a blunderer — he is a classic lose/lose tragic hero.”

Columnist Cal Thomas: “Here’s some advice, not only for [Sen. Ted] Cruz, but for the other would-be candidates: Instead of nonstop attacks on President Obama, adopt a positive and future-oriented agenda. Cruz and the other candidates can start by considering some uplifting new videos created by Bob Woodson, president of the Center for Neighborhood Enterprise and Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI.), who recently accompanied Woodson on a tour of some of America’s poverty pockets. They spoke with people once considered beyond redemption, but who have turned their lives around. The result is a just released seven-part online video series called ‘Comeback.’ The series highlights stories about drug addicts, alcoholics, abusers, gamblers, prostitutes and others, who with inspiration, motivation and perspiration are now inspiring others to pull themselves up and out of dire circumstances without help from the government. … Focusing on what works is better than ideological bomb-throwing, as even Hillary Clinton suggested in recent remarks. Woodson and Ryan have created something that could shift the political debate for 2016, if Cruz and the other candidates listen and get the attention of those voters who are disgusted with a dysfunctional and costly federal government.”

Twitter satirist @weknowwhatsbest: “Liberal law professor Alan Dershowitz said Ted Cruz at Harvard was ‘off the charts brilliant.’ BHO’s grades there were, well, removed from the charts.”

Russia Has Constructed Massive Underground Shelters In Anticipation Of Nuclear War

Posted: 26 Mar 2015 07:38 AM PDT

Russia Has Constructed Massive Underground Shelters In Anticipation Of Nuclear WarAccording to sources Russia has constructed massive Underground Shelters in anticipation of Nuclear War in the Future! Did you know that the Russians have a massive underground complex in the Ural mountains that has been estimated to be approximately 400 square miles in size? In other words, it is roughly as big as the area inside the Washington D.C. beltway. Back in the 1990s, the Clinton administration was deeply concerned about the construction of this enormous complex deep inside Yamantau mountain, but they could never seem to get any straight answers from the Russians.  The command center for this complex is rumored to be 3,000 feet directly straight down from the summit of this giant rock quartz mountain. And of course U.S. military officials will admit that there are dozens of other similar sites throughout Russia, although most of them are thought to be quite a bit smaller. But that is not all that the Russians have been up to. For example, Russian television has reported that 5,000 new emergency nuclear bomb shelters were scheduled to have been completed in the city of Moscow alone by the end of 2012. Most Americans don’t realize this, but the Russians have never stopped making preparations for nuclear war. Meanwhile, the U.S. government has essentially done nothing to prepare our citizens for an attack. The assumption seems to be that a nuclear attack will probably never happen, and that if it does it will probably mean the end of our civilization anyway. FULL REPORT

Texas Lawmaker Pushes Mandatory Mental Health Screening For Children

Posted: 26 Mar 2015 07:33 AM PDT

Texas Lawmaker Pushes Mandatory Mental Health Screening For Children How would you feel about your state requiring mandatory “Health Screenings” for your children? According to a report from Infowars, A Texas lawmaker has introduced draconian legislation that would force parents to have their children undergo mental health screenings at the behest of teachers, under threat of suspension from school. The bill, introduced by Texas State Representative Jason Villalba (R-Dallas), gives school officials the power to diagnose students with psychological problems, and mandate screenings by health professionals. Parents would then have 30 days to comply with the ruling, or the child will be sent to “an alternative school”. The bill reads: “ …the requirement that the parent or guardian, before the expiration of the 30-day period, to avoid suspension of the student under this section, take the student to the nearest local mental health authority or a physician specializing in psychiatry to receive a mental health screening and a certificate of medical examination for mental illness, as described by Section 533.03522(c), Health and Safety Code, that contains the examining physician’s opinion that the student is not a danger to self or others.” Worse still, teachers would be required by law to inform the police, as well as local mental health authorities, providing the name and address of the student, as well as information regarding the psychological problem. Street Preacher Ordered to Pay for ‘Emotional Pain’ to Gays

Street Preacher Ordered to Pay for 'Emotional Pain' to GaysPersecution for the Gospel sake continues a new report indicates that a Christian street preacher has been convicted of a Public Order offense for using the wrong Bible verse in a public conversation with a man who identifies as homosexual. But the preacher was acquitted of two other Public Order charges.  In a highly unusual judgment, Michael Overd, who regularly preaches on the streets of Taunton, was told by the Judge that he should not have referred to Leviticus 20 to make his point but clearly indicated that he could have used chapter 18 of the book. District Judge Shamim Ahmed Qureshi found that Mr. Overd could have pointed to Leviticus 18:22 which describes homosexual practice as an ‘abomination’ but that reference to Leviticus 20:13 was inappropriate because the chapter refers to the death penalty. Mr. Overd points out that in his use of Leviticus 20 he never referred to the death penalty. “I am being punished for words that never passed my lips,” he commented. FULL REPORT

NBC Show Glamorizes One-Night Stands and HomosexualityNBC has launched another program attempting to redefine what makes a family. “One Big Happy” is described as a show about best friends Lizzy and Luke who are like family. As kids, they saw each other’s parents go through divorce and have ever since formed an inseparable bond. Now, all grown up and still single, they’ve decided to start a family of their own, but in a non-traditional way. Lizzy, who is a lesbian, wants to raise a child with Luke by her side. U.S. banks begin charging customers to hold their deposits

Posted: 26 Mar 2015 07:14 AM PDT

U.S. banks begin charging customers to hold their deposits Natural News is now reporting that U.S Banks may now begin to charge customers to hold deposits. Since the Great Recession of 2008, something strange has been happening to the country’s financial sector, and banking in particular. As in, there is little about the sector that resembles “banking” these days, at least in the sense that most Americans understand it. Even before 2008, Americans were being given fewer and fewer reasons to deposit their money in banks. For example, the amount of interest you could earn on your deposits has been falling for decades. Now, following years of Federal Reserve- and taxpayer-driven bailouts, as well as cumbersome new financial regulations passed in 2010, the banks have had established a revenue flow outside of normal banking activities such as earning interest from loans — so much that they figure they can begin charging for services that define their existence in the first place. As reported by The Wall Street Journal, some big banks like JPMorgan Chase & Co. are going to start penalizing bigger clients for bothering to use them as a place to stash their money. What’s more, the action is liable to cost the big banks a lot of money — money that they apparently can afford to lose because, again, they’re getting fed more by the Fed these days than by customers. Water shortages for Arizona, Nevada and California to begin in 2016 as Lake Mead reservoir plummets

For more than a year NaturalNews and other outlets have been warning of the dire consequences that could befall civil society if drought-related water shortages continue or worsen. We’ve already reported, for instance, that increasingly desperate Californians have been stealing water already, both from city hydrants and from rural farms. We’ve also reported that residents in North Texas have had to resort to drinking water from sewage because of the drought there. And it’s only going to get worse. Now, Nevada is facing “significant possibilities” of major shortages of water if drought on the Colorado River continues into the next two years, says a worrisome forecast delivered recently by a federal government agency. The Price Of Ground Beef Has DOUBLED Since The Last Financial Crisis

Posted: 26 Mar 2015 06:59 AM PDT

The Price Of Ground Beef Has DOUBLED Since The Last Financial CrisisSince the depths of the last recession, the price of ground beef in the United States has doubled. Has your paycheck doubled since then? Even though the Federal Reserve insists that we are in a “low inflation” environment, the government’s own numbers show that the price of ground beef has been on an unprecedented run over the past six years. In early 2009, the average price of a pound of ground beef was hovering near 2 dollars. In February, it hit a brand new all-time record high of $4.238 per pound. Even just 12 months ago, the price of ground beef was sitting at $3.555 per pound. So we are talking about a huge increase. And this hits American families where they really live. Each year, the average American consumes approximately 270 pounds of meat. The only nation in the world that eats more meat than we do is Luxembourg. If the paychecks of American workers were going up fast enough to deal with this increase, it wouldn’t be that big of a deal. But of course that is not happening. In an article just last week, I showed that real median household income is a couple thousand dollars lower now than it was during the depths of the last recession. The middle class is being squeezed, and we are rapidly getting to the point where burgers are going to be considered a “luxury” item. FULL REPORT

USGS upgrades Aleutian volcano alert level: volcano stirring after 28 year slumberAccording to a new report from Extinction Protocol The USGS upgraded the island’s volcano alert level status to “advisory” and its aviation code to “yellow” Wednesday after an increase in seismic activity. Citing increased seismic intensity, the U.S. Geological Survey is upgrading the volcano alert level status for Semisopochnoi, an Aleutian Island volcano, to “advisory,” the US geological agency said in a notice issued Wednesday morning. Semisopochnoi Island or Unyak Island is part of the Rat Islands group in the western Aleutian Islands of Alaska. The island is uninhabited and provides an important nesting area for maritime birds. The island is of volcanic origin, containing several volcanoes including Mount Cerberus. It has a land area of 85.558 square miles (221.59 km2), measuring 18 kilometers (11 mi) in length and 20 kilometers (12 mi) in width. Seismic activity at the Semisopochnoi volcano began in January, but “has increased in intensity over the past few days,” USGS wrote in the notice. “In addition, we have detected brief periods of seismic tremor, which can indicate movement of magma or magmatic gases.” Semisopochnoi is remote even by Alaska standards. It lies on an island of the same name some 127 miles from Adak and 1,283 miles from Anchorage. The volcano last erupted in 1987. SOURCE

Leftists go ballistic over Phil Robertson’s remarks broadcast on Trunews

Leftists go ballistic over Phil Robertson’s remarks broadcast on Trunews“Duck Dynasty” patriarch Phil Robertson’s is going viral yet again, this time for detailing an imagined scene while speaking at a prayer breakfast in Florida. Talking Points Memo, a political blog and journalism site, posted March 24 that Robertson told the story during a speech Friday (March 20). Robertson’s speech was broadcast by the conservative radio program TruNews, but the left-leaning site Right Wing Watch drew attention to the particular excerpt in question. In the speech, Robertson uses a graphic scenario to explain that, without Christianity, people would have no reason to be decent human beings. Robertson has previously made headlines for making anti-gay statements, calling STDs and AIDS a punishment from God for immorality and other statements that once had him booted from the popular A&E TV show that brought the Monroe family to fame. Here’s a transcript of what Robertson said, or you can listen below, but note that he used vivid descriptions of violence, so skip the italicized portion if you’d like to avoid reading it. If you’d rather listen to the audio, the specific excerpt begins about 30 seconds into the recording.  FULL REPORT

CNN And Ron Reagan Team Up To Attack Judeo-Christianity And Promote Atheism (VIDEO)

“I’m Ron Reagan, an unabashed atheist, and I am not afraid of burning in Hell”

“The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.” Psalm 14:1 (KJV)

CNN, has apparently changed the meaning of their initials from the “Clinton News Network” to the “Christ Negation Network.” They’ve got an atheistic bee in their bonnet and are have been on a tear the last few days, featuring programs that support the notion that there is no God.

For instance, on March 21st, they aired a program called The Friendly Atheists Next Door. March 22nd, viewers were treated to What Type of Atheist Would You Be? On March 23rd, they aired Examining the Stigma of Atheism. Earlier today, March 24th, they featured a story about a former pastor turned atheist in which he shares his message of nonbelief.

This evening, they showed a “Special Broadcast” Atheist: Inside the World of Non-Believers. To kick off this sophomoric effort to mock and deny the Creator of heaven and earth, Ron Reagan, the son of President Ronald Reagan, taped the following commercial message:

“I’m Ron Reagan, an unabashed atheist, and I’m alarmed by the intrusion of religion into our secular government. That’s why I’m asking you to support the Freedom from Religion Foundation, the nation’s largest and most effective association of atheists and agnostics, working to keep state and church separate, just like the Founding Fathers intended. Please support the Freedom from Religion Foundation—Ron Reagan. Lifelong atheist. Not afraid of burning in hell.”

“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.” Proverbs 1:7 (KJV)

Let’s take a closer look at this farce of a commercial message. Ron Reagan states he is alarmed by the intrusion of religion into out secular government. HUH?! What parallel universe is this man inhabiting, because in my universe, the only ‘religion’ intruding into our secular government is Islam, but I highly doubt that’s what he’s referring to.

The Freedom From Religion Foundation’s Founder and President is Mikey Weinstein, a self-hating Jew who could very well be the most caustic, rabid Christian hater on the planet. Despite his denials, the Occupant’s administration has contacted him on several occasions asking him to serve as a ‘religious tolerance consultant,’ the irony of which is but a tiny glimpse of Obama’s mental illness. However, Mikey’s crown jewel is his organized attack on Christians in every branch of our armed forces.

He states “I founded the civil rights fighting organization the Military Religious Freedom Foundation (MRFF) to do one thing: fight those monsters who would tear down the Constitutionally-mandated wall separating church and state in the technologically most lethal entity ever created by humankind, the U.S. military.”

This charmer is the person responsible for the persecution of Christians in our military. Soldiers, officers, and even Chaplains have been disciplined, demoted and dishonorably discharged for the grievous crimes of sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ with their fellow soldiers, displaying a Bible on their desk, openly praying, or failing to do a happy dance when asked if they support homosexuals.

U.S. Navy Chaplain, Dr. Wes Modder, a decorated minister who is highly respected by his superior officers, who has a spotless and exceptional record of military service, is facing career-ending punishment because he expressed his faith-based beliefs in private counseling sessions with sailors. If I remember correctly, these sailors were looking for him to endorse their sodomite relationship. When he was unable to do so, they complained.

This is just one example of the insanity our Christian service men and women now face, thanks to the influence of Mikey and his minions. He has stated “Today, we face incredibly well-funded gangs of fundamentalist Christian monsters who terrorize their fellow Americans by forcing their weaponized and twisted version of Christianity upon their helpless subordinates in our nation’s armed forces.”

He has also spewed “those evil, fundamentalist Christian creatures and their spiritual heirs have taken refuge behind flimsy, well-worn, gauze-like euphemistic facades such as ‘family values’ and ‘religious liberty.’

He views evangelical Christians as terrorists. “We are facing a national security threat in this country that is every bit as significant in magnitude, width and breadth internally as that presented externally by the now-resurgent Taliban and al-Qaeda…We are facing an absolute fundamentalist Christianization—a Talibanization—of the U.S. Marine Corps, Army, Navy and Air Force.”

Mikey honey, calm down and take your medication. Your carotid is bulging and you’re foaming at the mouth again. But I digress. Back to Ron Reagan. Again, Mr. Reagan is oh-so-concerned about the intrusion of religion into our secular government, and wants us to support Mikey’s Freedom from Religion Foundation so they can keep the state and church separate, just as the Founding Fathers intended.

Well Scooter, guess what? The phrase “separation of church and state” does not appear in any of our founding documents. Let’s examine the facts, shall we? The First Amendment states “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof…” Before the final wording of this amendment was approved, it was revised nearly a dozen times.

The discussions, which are recorded in the Congressional Records, reveal that the Founding Fathers did not want what they witnessed in England; they wanted Christianity to be America’s religion, but did not want a particular denomination to be dominant. This is clearly shown in subsequent court rulings, such as one in 1799.

In that case, the court declared “By our form of government, the Christian religion is the established religion; and all sects and denominations of Christians are placed on the same equal footing.” Shocked? You shouldn’t be. THAT is the truth of what the Founding Fathers designed for this nation.

In 1801, the Danbury Baptist Association of Connecticut heard a rumor that the Congregationalist denomination was about to be made the national denomination, which upset the Baptists. They sent a letter to President Thomas Jefferson explaining their concerns, and he replied in a letter on January 1, 1802, reassuring them that “the First Amendment has erected a wall of separation between church and state.”

Since then, this phrase has been used by various groups attempting to throw every vestige of Christianity out of our government. One group in 1853 petitioned the House and Senate Judiciary Committee to remove chaplains from congress and the military.

The Committee came to the following conclusion: “At the time of the adoption of the Constitution and the amendments, the universal sentiment was that Christianity should be encouraged, but not any one sect. In this age, there is no substitute for Christianity. That was the religion of the founders of the republic, and they expected it to remain the religion of their descendants. The great, vital and conservative element in our system is the belief of our people in the pure doctrines and divine truths of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.”

However, in 1947, during the case of Everson v. Board of Education, the Supreme Court again looked to Jefferson’s letter, but this time, they took those eight words out of context, saying “The First Amendment has erected ‘a wall of separation between church and state.’ That wall must be kept high and impregnable.” And this twisting of Jefferson’s words took off from there.

Adolf Hitler’s master of propaganda, Joseph Goebbels, came up with a brilliant way to program the population of sheeple into believing what the government told them. “If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it.” That is why very few people today challenge the whole concept of ‘separation of church and state.’ It’s been pounded into our heads since childhood.

Now you can see what a crock it is when the atheistic, God-hating progressives like Ron Reagan and Mikey Weinstein verbally vomit this phrase all over you. It’s a lie and was NOT what the Founding Fathers intended!

In his commercial, Ron states in a mocking voice that he’s not afraid of burning in hell. The Bible says people who hold the beliefs of Mikey and Ron are fools.

I shudder to think of their future, and pray the Lord is able to penetrate their hearts before they’re consigned to take a swan-dive into the Lake of Fire.

Obama Takes Revenge Against Israel By Ordering Secret Nuclear Program Documents Declassified

Obama revenge for Netanyahu’s Congress talk? 1987 report on Israel’s top secret nuclear program released in unprecedented move.

“The LORD shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.” Exodus 14:14 (KJV)

EDITOR’S NOTE: With this latest move, the Obama administration has declared itself to be, if not at war, then certainly at fatal odds with the nation of Israel in general, and with Benjamin Netanyahu in particular. Obama is all done pretending to be a friend to Israel, and the Spirit that controls him is only going to make sure things get worse quickly.

In a development that has largely been missed by mainstream media, the Pentagon early last month quietly declassified a Department of Defense top-secret document detailing Israel’s nuclear program, a highly covert topic that Israel has never formally announced to avoid a regional nuclear arms race, and which the US until now has respected by remaining silent.

But by publishing the declassified document from 1987, the US reportedly breached the silent agreement to keep quiet on Israel’s nuclear powers for the first time ever, detailing the nuclear program in great depth.

obama-reveals-israels-nuclear-reactor-missile-secrets-declassified-dimona

The timing of the revelation is highly suspect, given that it came as tensions spiraled out of control between Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and US President Barack Obama ahead of Netanyahu’s March 3 address in Congress, in which he warned against the dangers of Iran’s nuclear program and how the deal being formed on that program leaves the Islamic regime with nuclear breakout capabilities.

Another highly suspicious aspect of the document is that while the Pentagon saw fit to declassify sections on Israel’s sensitive nuclear program, it kept sections on Italy, France, West Germany and other NATO countries classified, with those sections blocked out in the document. The 386-page report entitled “Critical Technological Assessment in Israel and NATO Nations” gives a detailed description of how Israel advanced its military technology and developed its nuclear infrastructure and research in the 1970s and 1980s.

Israel is “developing the kind of codes which will enable them to make hydrogen bombs. That is, codes which detail fission and fusion processes on a microscopic and macroscopic level,” reveals the report, stating that in the 1980s Israelis were reaching the ability to create bombs considered a thousand times more powerful than atom bombs.

The revelation marks a first in which the US published in a document a description of how Israel attained hydrogen bombs. The report also notes research laboratories in Israel “are equivalent to our Los Alamos, Lawrence Livermore and Oak Ridge National Laboratories,” the key labs in developing America’s nuclear arsenal.

Israel’s nuclear infrastructure is “an almost exact parallel of the capability currently existing at our National Laboratories,” it adds. “As far as nuclear technology is concerned the Israelis are roughly where the U.S. was in the fission weapon field in about 1955 to 1960,” the report reveals, noting a time frame just after America tested its first hydrogen bomb.

Institute for Defense Analysis, a federally funded agency operating under the Pentagon, penned the report back in 1987.

Aside from nuclear capabilities, the report revealed Israel at the time had “a totally integrated effort in systems development throughout the nation,” with electronic combat all in one “integrated system, not separated systems for the Army, Navy and Air Force.” It even acknowledged that in some cases, Israeli military technology “is more advanced than in the U.S.”

Declassifying the report comes at a sensitive timing as noted above, and given that the process to have it published was started three years ago, that timing is seen as having been the choice of the American government. US journalist Grant Smith petitioned to have the report published based on the Freedom of Information Act. Initially the Pentagon took its time answering, leading Smith to sue, and a District Court judge to order the Pentagon to respond to the request.

Smith, who heads the Institute for Research: Middle East Policy, reportedly said he thinks this is the first time the US government has officially confirmed that Israel is a nuclear power, a status that Israel has long been widely known to have despite being undeclared.

I thought we had seen the worst of Barack Hussein Obama’s evilness. This is unprecedented in the history of the United States relationship with their closest ally in the Middle East – Israel.

This proves that Obama would like to see Israel wiped off the map.

I have news for Mr. Obama. That will NEVER happen – no matter how much you want Israel to be destroyed, you cannot fight against God…and win.

Russia Has Constructed Massive Underground Shelters In Anticipation Of Nuclear War

(Read More…)

Superhighway: Russian official proposes road that could connect London to NYC
One of Russia’s most powerful tycoons and a close pal of President Vladimir Putin has proposed a long and winding road that theoretically could connect Great Britain to Alaska, via Mother Russia. And while a nearly 13,000-mile highway sounds like a stretch – a really long stretch – the major roadblock is likely money, not feasibility. “This is an inter-state, inter-civilization, project,” Russian Railways boss Vladimir Yakunin told the Russian Academy of Science, where he presented his plan for the Trans-Eurasian belt Development, which he acknowledged would cost “trillions” of dollars.

Is Obama strong-arming Netanyahu into unity deal with the left?
The Obama administration’s most recent threat to “re-evaluate” the US approach toward the Israeli-Palestinian conflict needs to be exposed for what it is: a backhanded attempt to influence the composition of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s forthcoming ruling coalition and pressure him into a unity deal with left-wing parties.

Recognizing Iran as a Nuclear Threshold State: Implications for Israel and the Middle East
With shrewd strategic perspective, the Iranian leadership has weighed the long term implications of an agreement with the major powers that constitutes international recognition of Iran’s “right” to be a “nuclear threshold state,” and gives it the ability to break out to a nuclear bomb when it so chooses. Consequently, it seeks an agreement (even if its validity is limited to 10-15 years) that in addition to leaving it with access to its nuclear technology also rewards it with both removal of the sanctions and international recognition of its special status in the Middle East.

The hollowing of the U.S. Military

It takes a long time and a lot of space to even noticeably slow all that mass down.

God doesn’t play dice with the Universe but Obama plays dice with Israel
Albert Einstein, genius, brilliant mathematician, and scientist, wrote “God doesn’t play dice with the universe.” Glimpsing at the intricate layers of mathematical and scientific complexities underlying the composition of our material world and of the Universe, Einstein appreciated the amazing rational, logical Mind behind it; the known and unknown laws that govern this Universe, acknowledging a moral Hand inherent in its framing.

The Death Throes of Common Core
Americans are learning the hard way that the federal government should not be permitted to impose one-size-fits-all standards to education. It was never intended to play a role in education and the absence of any mention in the Constitution is proof enough that education was intended to be supervised by the states where the school districts, schools, and parents are closest to the process.

Obama Regime is Precisely What it Accuses America of Being

Pitiable capitulating pro-family leaders, Part 2

Marsha West
March 26, 2015

Before the term pro-family was hijacked by liberals (evangelical was also hijacked) supporters were largely made up from conservative Protestants, Roman Catholics, Mennonites, Mormons, Muslims, and Jews, naming just a few. For the sake of the country, religious conservatives agreed to set aside their differences and pull together a grass roots movement of concerned citizens. These folks put their money where their mouth is in an all out effort to win elections . . . [Click for more]

Choose Your Own Sexual Ethics Adventure

What’s really important—what, in Anderson’s view, is really moral—is that one’s sex life is shaped by our own sense of ethics. Given all this, perhaps it’s not so surprising that Anderson so easily falls into the trap of setting up her own values as a substitute source of authority. If one’s own viewpoint is one’s greatest source of guidance, naturally, to her, her viewpoint is going to look like the best one around. The book’s takeaway is a bit of a Catch 22: If the goal is to create a sexual ethic for ourselves, why consider someone else’s guidelines at all?

Nine Traits of Mean Churches

They may not have used the word “mean” specifically, but the intent was the same. I then collected characteristics of these churches, and I found nine that were common. I call these the “nine traits of mean churches.”

Despite Assurances, Should PCUSA Pastors Worry about Their Future and Same-Sex Marriage?

So, for now the authority to marry same-sex people in Presbyterian churches is permissive and not compulsory. “But,” LaBerge commented, “If this is a genuine justice issue, which supporters of marriage redefinition claim, then how long do you think they’re really going to be willing for the denomination to limp along between two opinions? How long can ministers serve together as real colleagues in ministry when some think others are discriminatory hatemongers and on the contrary, some think others are blessing what the Bible calls sin? That’s a lot of tension for an organization to endure for long.”

The Christian and Common Grace

As much as I may, at times, be quick to think that people are basically good, I confess that there is another side of common grace that confounds me. For he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust (Matthew 5:45). I confess that there are days when I wonder at this verse. I see its truth evident all around me, and I’m frustrated by it. Why should Christians suffer while those who deny God’s existence reap benefits seemingly beyond compare?

Why So Many Young Christians Are Leaving Their Churches — And Coming Back Again

Many of my friends have started returning to their childhood church communities, if for no other reason than it feels more faithful to recommit to what they already know than commit to uncertainty. I am less interested in fidelity to an institution than belonging to the people who make it up.

Huge money is being made behind the scenes, which helps to explain the manner in which even friendly critics are often treated by such organizations. It also explains the comparative silence about these things in the public sphere: the men of stature who could and should speak out are often invested in the racket themselves and thus co-opted for the cause. Their presence on the payroll both reassures the public that all is well and precludes any possibility of appropriate scrutiny.

Five facts about pastors most church members are unclear on – “In my experience, most pastors hesitate to teach the biblical understanding of the role of pastors because to do so might sound self-serving, as though they were trying to carve out a bigger role for themselves in leading the church. This is a serious error for which we are now paying as many congregations are turning the minister into a hired hand, employing him as an errand boy, or treating him as an executive brought in to lead their ‘country club.’”

Christians, You Will Suffer – “I had a brief interaction with an atheist on Twitter a couple of weeks ago that unexpectedly turned to the issue of suffering when she said: You clearly never had a time you were hurt. I don’t mean sick. I don’t mean heart broken. I mean literally a near death experience or rape or abusive relationship…. You can keep floating on a [expletive] cloud thinking Jesus will do everything for you but it’s a lie. What makes you so special?”

Charismania Embraces Glenn Beck – “Recently, charismatic apostle and prophet Dr Chuck Pierce offered Mormon political pundit and commentator Glenn Beck a “new mantle for the future” because of his stand with the nation of Israel.”

In the midst of a controversy over his comments, Robertson was suspended from his own A&E Network Reality show. The outcry over his comments, as well as his suspension, was short. In little time, Phil’s legions of supportive, evangelical Christian fans demanded that he be returned to A&E’s airwaves. He was.”

Rapture References, Part 2

This entry is part 1 of 1 in the series Rapture references

A Bible Study by Jack Kelley

In part one of this series we explored some of the clearest hints from the Old Testament that the Lord has always intended to rapture the Church before the End Times judgments begin. This time we’ll continue with a two part survey of the New Testament. Because Paul was the first to reveal the mystery of the Rapture, we won’t expect to find a clear explanation in the Gospels, but since we already know about it, we’ll be able to spot a couple of hints here and there. Shall we continue?

Effective Prayer (James 5:13–20)

Joe Quatrone, Jr.

Effective PrayerThe gift of speech is a marvelous blessing, if it is used to the glory of God. Prayer is certainly a high and holy privilege. As God’s children, we can come freely and boldly to His throne and share with Him our needs! The mature Christian is prayerful in the troubles of life. Instead of complaining about his situation, he talks to God about it, and God hears and answers his prayers. Perhaps one of the greatest weaknesses in the average church today is in the area of prayer. The reason for this weakness may be traced to insensitivity. James encourages us to pray by describing four situations in which God answers prayer:

1. Prayer for the Suffering (5:13)

As God’s people go through life, they often must endure difficult circumstances that are not the result of sin or the chastening of God. Suffering should elicit prayer. The…

Bergdahl was returned to the United States last year in exchange for five Taliban commanders being held at the detention facility at Guantanamo Bay.

Are Latter Day Saints (LDS) doctrines supported by philosophy, science and history?

WINTERY KNIGHT

This post presents evidence against Mormonism/LDS in three main areas. The first is in the area of science. The second is in the area of philosophy. And the third is in the area of history.

The scientific evidence

First, let’s take a look at what the founder of Mormonism, Joseph Smith, believes about the origin of the universe:

“The elements are eternal. That which had a beggining will surely have an end; take a ring, it is without beggining or end – cut it for a beggining place and at the same time you have an ending place.” (“Scriptural Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith”, p. 205)

“Now, the word create came from the word baurau which does not mean to create out of nothing; it means to organize; the same as a man would organize materials and build a ship. Hence, we infer that God had materials to organize…

Charismania Embraces Glenn Beck

Polemics Report

Recently, charismatic apostle and prophet Dr Chuck Pierce offered Mormon political pundit and commentator Glenn Beck a “new mantle for the future” because of his stand with the nation of Israel.

There are so many angles one could take when it comes to dealing with an issue like this.

One could talk about the strange, adulterous relationship that American evangelicalism that allows a charismatic guy can ‘anoint’ a Mormon political pundit because he ‘stands with Israel’ – a geopolitical issue couched in theological terms. But I frankly do not care for the political – I want to deal with a less well known issue – and for that, we need a brief lesson in Mormon theology.

  1. We believe that a man must be called of God, by prophecy, and by the laying on of…

New SRN Podcast: Biblical Principles That Cut Through Ecumenical New Age Christianity

Here is a new Podcast that will help clarify why Bible believing Christians should have nothing to do with the Contemplative “Centering Prayer” Movement. This movement is undermining Christian churches, Universities and Bible Colleges everywhere. Fr. Thomas Keating, the Pioneer of this modern-day ecumenical, mystical, New Age/New Gospel/New Spirituality movement declares the following – which he has arrived at through his “centering-prayer” method:

• “If you don’t want to become God, you’ve missed the boat. If you’re too humble to think you can become God, if you think you are not worthy, that is a false humility, because it’s not yours to decide.” – Fr. Thomas Keating, Segment 17 of 21, Integral Contemplative Christianity

Mr. Keating’s teaching is not Christian at all. Rather, it is New Age “Cultism.” Contrary to Mr. Keating, the God of the Bible says:

• “I am the Lord, and there is none else, there is no God beside me: I girded thee, though thou hast not known me: That they may know from the rising of the sun, and from the west, that there is none beside me. I am the Lord, and there is none else.” – Isaiah 45:5-6

• “Ye are my witnesses, saith the Lord, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me. I, even I, am the Lord; and beside me there is no saviour.” – Isaiah 43:10-11

Please share this Podcast (and others) with your family and friends. There is no reason why Christians need to be influenced by people who twist Scripture beyond all recognition, and who think that they are, or can become “God. This is the LIE of Satan packaged as “Luciferian Christianity.”

• “And the serpent [Lucifer/Satan] said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.” – Genesis 3:4-5

• “Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.” – 2 Thessalonians 2:3-4

GTY Blog: The Seven Last Sayings of Christ: A Promise of Salvation

Luke 23:40-43

Code: B150325

by John MacArthur

You may have heard stories of immediate answers to prayer. A destitute family thanks the Lord for a non-existent meal, and someone knocks at the door with food. A man with an empty bank account prays for help, and immediately finds an unexpected check in the mail.

Christ’s second utterance from the cross marks the first and immediate, glorious fulfillment of His prayer for His killers’ forgiveness. It shows how generously that forgiveness was bestowed, even on the most unlikely of recipients.

From Mockery to Penitence

As the hours of agony passed on the cross, one of the two thieves who had mocked Christ earlier now had a change of heart. What prompted the change is not mentioned. Perhaps the thief heard and was touched by Jesus’ prayer for mercy, realizing that it applied to him. Whatever prompted his turnaround, it was a tremendous miracle.

The man was undoubtedly one of the most thoroughly degenerate people on the scene. He and his confederate were career criminals, men whose lives had been devoted to thievery and mayhem. The deep-down bad-to-the-bone wickedness of their character was shown by the fact that they used their dying strength to join in the taunting of Christ. They obviously knew of His innocence because the repentant thief finally rebuked his cohort, saying, “This man has done nothing wrong” (Luke 23:41). Yet until one of them repented, they both were heaping ridicule and scorn on Him anyway.

But there came a point when one thief’s taunting turned to silence, and the silence turned to repentance, and the thief’s heart was utterly changed. As he studied Jesus, suffering all that abuse so patiently—never reviling or insulting His tormentors—the thief began to see that this Man on the center cross was indeed who He claimed to be. The proof of his repentance is seen in his immediate change of behavior, as his derisive insults turned to words of praise for Christ.

First he rebuked his partner in crime: “Do you not even fear God, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation? And we indeed are suffering justly, for we are receiving what we deserve for our deeds; but this man has done nothing wrong” (vv. 40–41). In saying that much, he confessed his own guilt, and he also acknowledged the justice of the penalty he had been given. He affirmed the innocence of Christ as well.

Then he turned to Jesus and confessed Him as Lord: “Jesus, remember me when You come in Your kingdom” (v. 42).

That confession of Jesus as Lord and King was immediately followed by the second of Jesus’ seven last sayings: “And He said to him, ‘Truly I say to you, today you shall be with Me in Paradise’” (v. 43).

Blessed Assurance

No sinner was ever given more explicit assurance of salvation. This most unlikely of saints was received immediately and unconditionally into the Savior’s kingdom. The incident is one of the greatest biblical illustrations of the truth of justification by faith. This man had done nothing to merit salvation. Indeed, he was in no position to do anything meritorious. Already gasping in the throes of his own death agonies, he had no hope of ever earning Christ’s favor. But realizing that he was in an utterly hopeless situation, the thief sought only a modest token of mercy from Christ: “Remember me.”

His request was a final, desperate, end-of-his-rope plea for a small mercy he knew he did not deserve. It echoes the plaintive cry of the publican, who “was even unwilling to lift up his eyes to heaven, but was beating his breast, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me, the sinner!’” (Luke 18:13). For either man to be granted eternal life and received into the kingdom, it had to be on the merits of another. And yet in both cases, Jesus gave full and immediate assurance of complete forgiveness and eternal life. Those are classic proofs that justification is by faith alone.

Jesus’ words to the dying thief conveyed to him an unqualified promise of full forgiveness, covering every evil deed he had ever done. He wasn’t expected to atone for his own sins, do penance, or perform any ritual. He wasn’t consigned to purgatory—though if there really were such a place, and if the doctrines that invariably accompany belief in purgatory were true, this man would have been assured a long stay there. But instead, his forgiveness was full, and free, and immediate: “Today you shall be with Me in Paradise.”

That was all Christ said to him. But it was all the thief needed to hear. He was still suffering unspeakable physical torment, but the misery in his soul was now gone. For the first time in his life, he was free from the burden of his sin. The Savior, at his side, was bearing that sin for him. And the thief was now clothed in Christ’s perfect righteousness. Soon they would be in Paradise together. The thief had Christ’s own word on it.

40 Days to the Cross: Reflections from Great Thinkers (Week Five: Thursday )

Thursday

Day 32: If Jesus actually did claim to be God, and if he actually did rise from the dead, what should you do with that information?

Confession: Psalm 103:8–14

Yahweh is compassionate and gracious,

slow to anger and abundant in loyal love.

He does not dispute continually,

nor keep his anger forever.

He has not dealt with us according to our sins,

nor repaid us according to our iniquities.

For as the heavens are high above the earth,

so his loyal love prevails over those who fear him.

As far as east is from west,

so he has removed far from us the guilt of our transgressions.

As a father pities his children,

so Yahweh pities those who fear him.

For he knows our frame.

He remembers that we are dust.

Reading: Mark 14:53–65

And they led Jesus away to the high priest, and all the chief priests and the elders and the scribes came together. And Peter followed him from a distance, right inside, into the courtyard of the high priest. And he was sitting with the officers and warming himself by the fire. Now the chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin were looking for testimony against Jesus in order to put him to death, and they did not find it. For many gave false testimony against him, and their testimony was not consistent. And some stood up and began to give false testimony against him, saying, “We heard him saying, ‘I will destroy this temple made by hands, and within three days I will build another not made by hands.’ ” And their testimony was not even consistent about this. And the high priest stood up in the midst of them and asked Jesus, saying, “Do you not reply anything? What are these people testifying against you?” But he was silent and did not reply anything. Again the high priest asked him and said to him, “Are you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed One?” And Jesus said, “I am, and you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Power and coming with the clouds of heaven.” And the high priest tore his clothes and said, “What further need do we have of witnesses? You have heard the blasphemy! What do you think?” And they all condemned him as deserving death. And some began to spit on him and to cover his face and to strike him with their fists, and to say to him “Prophesy!” And the officers received him with slaps in the face.

Reflection

Admire the self-command of the disciples, who relate these things with exactness. Here, we clearly see their disposition as they truthfully relate the things that seem to be scornful. Disguising nothing, nor being ashamed, they rather account it a great glory (as indeed it was) that the Lord of the universe should endure to suffer such things for us. This shows both His unutterable tenderness and the inexcusable wickedness of those men.… For neither did Christ fail in gentleness, nor they of insolence and cruelty in what they did and said. These things the prophet Isaiah foretold, proclaiming beforehand and by one word intimating all this insolence. For “like as many were astonished at you,” he said, “so shall your form be held inglorious of men, and your glory of the sons of men” (Isa 52:14 [paraphrase]).

… Indeed, they inflicted the blows that are most insulting of all—buffeting, smiting with the palms of their hands, and adding to these blows the insult of spitting at Him. And with words teeming again with much derision they spoke, saying, “Prophesy to us, you Messiah! Who is it that stuck you?” (Matt 26:68 nrsv) because the multitude called Him a prophet.

But another disciple said that they covered His face with His own garment, and did these things, as though they had in the midst of them some vile and worthless fellow.…

These things let us read continually; these things let us hear again; these things let us write in our minds, for these are our honors. In these things do I take a pride, not only in the thousands of dead He raised, but also in the sufferings which He endured. These things Paul puts forward in every way—the cross, the death, the sufferings, the revilings, the insults, the scoffs. And now he says, “Let us then go … bear the abuse he endured” (Heb 13:13 nrsv); and now, “who for the sake of the joy that was set before him endured the cross, disregarding its shame” (Heb 12:2 nrsv).

—John Chrysostom

Homilies of St. John Chrysostom

Response

What does it mean to you that Christ suffered scorn and reproach for your sake? Jesus was brought outside of Jerusalem to die—like a criminal. Paul says “we must go outside the camp and bear the abuse he endured” (Heb 13:13). What does it mean to you—that no matter how much shame you might feel—you must follow Christ? How is this radically present in your life?[1]

Never take your own revenge, beloved, but leave room for the wrath of God, for it is written, “ Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord

Possessing the Treasure

by Mike Ratliff

19 Never take your own revenge, beloved, but leave room for the wrath of God, for it is written, “ Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord. 20 “ But if your enemy is hungry, feed him, and if he is thirsty, give him A drink; for in so doing you will heap burning coals on his head.” 21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. (Romans 12:19-21 NASB)

It is the duty of all believers to serve the Lord by being good soldiers, ready for battle to stand and contend for His Truth no matter the cost, however, there is are right and wrong ways this is done. It is vital for the apologist to know the truth and that is found only in God’s Word. Yes, some godly Christians speak and write truth from God’s Word, but the primary source…
