The Turning Point of Time: An Easter Meditation from Ravi Zacharias (RZIM)

We often hear the phrase, “the crux of the matter” or “the crux of a situation.” The word “crux” comes from Medieval Latin, and simply means cross. Why has the word “crux” come to be associated with a critical juncture or point in time? Because the Cross of Christ is truly the crux of history. Without the Cross, history itself cannot be defined or corrected.

There is another word we often hear when we are in the throes of indescribable pain, the word, “excruciating.” That, too, derives from the Latin and means “out of the cross.” Across time and human experience, the historical event of the Cross intersects time and space and speaks to the deepest hurts of the human heart.

But we live with more than pain and suffering. We also live with deep hungers within the human heart, such as the hunger for truth, for justice, forgiveness, and peace. As I see it, there is only one place in the world where these hungers converge: it is in the Cross of Christ, where perfect peace and perfect justice became united in one death on a Friday afternoon.

The Cross defines what love’s entailments are. You see, in Christian terms, love does not stand merely as an emotion or even as an expression to just be reconciled to God. In a relationship with God, love ultimately flowers into worship. All earthly relationships as we know them will someday end. It is in worship alone that wonder and truth coalesce, prefiguring the consummation of eternal communion. That enrichment from worship feeds all other relationships and helps us to hold sacred all of life’s needed commitments.

Never has it been more obvious that this world needs redemption—and that redemption is costly. The Cross more than ever, in our language and in our longings, is necessary to bridge the divide between God and us and between ourselves. Without the Cross, the chasm that separates us all from truth, love, justice, and forgiveness can never be crossed. The depths of mystery and love found in the Cross can never be fully plumbed, but it must be the lifelong pursuit of the Christian to marvel at its costliness and to celebrate its meaning.

That is why we celebrate Easter. The Cross stands as the defining counter-perspective to everything this world has to offer. As you observe this Easter weekend, may you be moved to wonder and worship.

Can You Be A Christian If You Don’t Accept the Facticity of the Resurrection?

Romans 10:9 – If you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.

Zwinglius Redivivus

calvin_consistory_1549As the resurrection of Christ is the most important article of our faith, and without it the hope of eternal life is extinguished, for this reason the Evangelists are the more careful to prove it, as John here collects many proofs, in order to assure us that Christ is risen from the dead. It may be thought strange, however, that he does not produce more competent witnesses; for he begins with a woman; but thus the saying is fulfilled, that God chooseth what is weak, and foolish, and contemptible in the world, that he may bring to nought the wisdom, and excellence, and glory, of the flesh, (1 Cor. 1:27.) There certainly was nothing more of earthly grandeur in the disciples than in the women who followed Christ; but as Christ was pleased to reckon them the principal witnesses of his resurrection, on this single ground their testimony is…

Easter, Not a New Beginning

Polemics Report

Pastor Hall contributed the following Easter column to a local newspaper. We think it’s worth sharing…

A certain pastor in Texas, one with a famously characteristic smile and cheerfully optimistic wife toted on his arm, gave an Easter message several years ago in which he said, “If you’ll let go of the old and have a fresh new vision, God can make the rest of your life the best of your life. Today can be your new beginning.”

I noticed this popularized theme of Easter several years ago as I was looking for power-point graphics for an Easter sermon, upon which to put my sermon outline for the congregation to keep up. Nearly every Easter-themed graphic said, “New Beginning” or “Fresh Start” or “Clean Slate” or “Second Chances.” There seems to be a theme, here…and the theme is, Jesus died to give you another chance, a fresh start, a…

When speaking to non-Christians, do you use any of these Christianese terms?

I found this article by J. Warner Wallace and thought it was appropriate because it’s Easter, and there are always questions.

First, the list of Christianese: (not his term)

  • #1. “God has put you (or something) on my heart. / God told me.”
  • #2. “Be ‘born again.’ / Have a spiritual rebirth.”
  • #3. “You need to come to repentance. / Experience a conversion.”
  • #4. “Deal with your sin.”
  • #5. “Invite Jesus into your heart.”
  • #6. “Make Jesus the Lord of your life.”
  • #7. “Have faith.”
  • #8. “Be saved.”
  • #9. “Be washed by the blood of the Lamb.”
  • #10. “Be Sanctified.”
  • Bonus Expression #11. “Enjoy fellowship.”

This article is pretty funny, but it ought to be because I think we really need to shame church Christians when they talk like this.

Here’s the one I liked best:

#5. “Invite Jesus into your heart.”
You mean like a boyfriend? What exactly does…

Islamic terrorists murder nearly 150 mostly Christian students in Kenya

Map of Africa Map of Africa

While the mainstream media was protesting religious freedom laws, they neglected to make a big deal out of a terrorist attack by Islamic terrorists against Christian students in Kenya.

Let’s read about it in the radically leftist New York Times, of all places.

It says:

Elosy Karimi curled up in a crawl space, immobilized by fear.

Her classmates were flooding out of the dorms, in boxer shorts and thin nightgowns. Gunfire was ringing all around her. People were screaming. It was predawn and pitch black.

“If you want to survive, come out!” the militants yelled. “If you want to die, stay inside!”

In the terrifying confusion, Ms. Karimi, 23, decided to risk it inside, she said, and stayed hidden in the ceiling above her bunk bed for the next 28 and a half hours.

“I knew those guys were lying,” she said at the hospital, having…

Chile flood toll rises amid growing fears for missing
Rescue workers in Chile say the death toll from last week’s floods has risen to 25 and could increase further. There is growing concern for the 101 people still missing after last week’s flash floods and mudslides in the Atacama region, which includes the world’s driest desert. President Michelle Bachelet visited the area on Saturday, promising to provide aid to help recovery efforts.

Yemen conflict: Evacuations continue as fighting intensifies
Countries including Pakistan and China are stepping up efforts to evacuate their citizens from Yemen, as its humanitarian situation worsens. A Pakistani aircraft will fly to the capital Sanaa on Sunday to rescue 170 people. Flights from China, Egypt, Sudan and Djibouti are also scheduled, according to the Saudi-led coalition fighting Yemen’s Shia Houthi rebels.

Large Hadron Collider restarts after two-year rebuild
The Large Hadron Collider has restarted, with protons circling the machine’s 27km tunnel for the first time since 2013. Particle beams have now travelled in both directions, inside parallel pipes, at a whisker below the speed of light. Actual collisions will not begin for at least another month, but they will take place with nearly double the energy the LHC reached during its first run.

Report: Iran transfers millions to Hamas for reconstruction of tunnels
Iran has stepped-up its efforts to support Hamas in Gaza, transferring tens of millions of dollars to the Izaddin Kassam Brigades, Hamas’s military wing, to help with rebuilding efforts, the Telegraph reported Sunday. According to the report, the funds have been allocated to the rebuilding of tunnels and restocking of missile arsenals destroyed by Israel during Operation Protective Edge.

The US and Iran are closer in Iraq than people realize — and things are getting ugly
The Obama administration is no longer hiding the fact that the US is serving as the air force for Iran-backed Shia militias fighting ISIS in Iraq. Helen Cooper of The New York Times reports that the US and Iran “have found a template for fighting the Sunni militancy in other parts of Iraq: American airstrikes and Iranian-backed ground assaults” with the Iraqi military serving as a go-between.

‘Mystic’ rabbi issues ominous warning on eve of blood moon
Rabbi Amram Vaknin, described as a “mystic rabbi living in southern Israel,” is urging all Jews to pray and repent as the third Blood Moon of a tetrad cycle approaches, according to a report in Breaking Israel News. He warns that Israel is facing great judgment and potential danger at this time, according to the report. Vaknin predicted that the 44th president would “bring bloodshed (dam) to the Jewish people.” It should be noted that the rabbi made this prediction before President Barack Obama’s election to office, according to Breaking Israel News.

Papua New Guinea, Tonga and Missouri: Earthquakes 28 March-3 April 2015
Some weeks there’s not a lot of earthquake activity — some weeks there is. The week of 28 March-3 April 2015 was one of the latter, with the United States Geological Survey’s real time earthquake map (which shows tremors of all magnitudes in the US and its territories and those of at least magnitude 4 elsewhere) showing a total of just over 1,550 earthquakes, four of them larger than M6.0 and one of M7.5.

Obama’s Economy Lays An Egg Just In Time For Easter
Try as he might, Obama can’t sugarcoat this sour news. Equally curious, one might notice, is the shameless ability of the leftists to declare a loser to be a winner as they smear a thick coating of glossy lipstick on the pig that is the Obama economy.

Iran Deal: US and Allies are the Junior Varsity (Little League?)
It looks like the U.S. is the captain of the junior varsity team. And Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu will not sugarcoat his assessment. This “agreement” which is not a deal, is not even the framework of a deal, is, ultimately, an attempt by the Obama administration to rack up at least one foreign policy “achievement” during its tenure.

North Korea ‘test-fires missiles’
North Korea has test-fired four short-range missiles into the sea off its west coast, say South Korean military officials. In a statement, the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) said the missiles had a range of about 140km (87 miles). They were fired from Dongchang-ri in the north of the country on Friday afternoon local time, it said.

US hiring slows, adding 126,000 jobs in March
Employers in the United States added 126,000 jobs in March – a gain far lower than previous months. The slower gains mark a break from a 12-month streak where employers added over 200,000 jobs each month. Severe winter weather, factory slowdowns, and dull construction activity contributed to the lacklustre numbers.

Kenya’s cities will run with blood
Somali militants vowed on Saturday to wage a long war against Kenya and run its cities “red with blood” after the group’s fighters killed nearly 150 people during an assault on a Kenyan university. In the worst bloodshed in Kenya in nearly two decades, four al Shabaab gunmen went on a killing spree…hunting down and executing students in a campus in Garissa…

A new chapter in the Sunni-Shi’ite war
The Saudi-organized coalition for Yemen and…a regional Arab force show that the Sunni…picked up the gauntlet thrown down by the Iranians. The assembling of a Sunni alliance to challenge the advancement of an Iranian proxy in Yemen, and the subsequent announcement in Sharm e-Sheikh of the formation of a 40,000 strong Arab rapid reaction force, are the latest moves in a war that has already been under way in the Middle East for some time.

World Will Get More Religious by 2050
The world is becoming more religious, as the number of agnostics and others who don’t affiliate with a certain religion shrinks as a percentage of the global population. By 2050, just 13 percent of people in the world will say they are unaffiliated, compared with 16 percent who said the same in 2010, according to a new Pew Research Center survey.

White House officials defend Somalia strategy as counterterrorism model
President Obama has cited the battle against al-Shabab militants in Somalia as a model of success for his relatively low-investment, light-footprint approach to counterterrorism. But this week’s massacre of 148 people at Garissa University College, the deadliest terrorist attack on Kenyan soil in two decades, demonstrates the limits of the administration’s approach and the difficulty of producing lasting victories over resilient enemies.

Analysis: Iran deal’s missing details spell trouble
The landmark nuclear deal reached Thursday between world powers and Iran is being touted as a victory by both Iran and President Obama. But missing details could spell trouble ahead.

Netanyahu says Iran must accept Israel’s existence
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu demanded that Iranian recognition of Israel’s right to exist be written into an emerging nuclear deal, as he convened top officials for talks on Friday.

Crowd hails Iranian nuclear negotiators on return to Tehran
A crowd of well-wishers hailed Iranian negotiators Friday as they returned to Tehran after agreeing the framework of a potentially historic nuclear deal with world powers, Iranian news agencies reported.

Sky spectacle: Lunar eclipse to feature ‘blood moon’
The first of two lunar eclipses visible in the U.S. this year will take place early Saturday morning. NASA explains why the first one is so special.

U.S. negotiators reportedly lowered the bar for their own goals during talks over Iran’s nuclear program in response to resistance from the Tehran team. And, on the heels of a framework deal being announced in Switzerland, France’s top diplomat on Friday admitted his country had initially held out for firmer terms.

The emerging reports indicate the U.S. team, led by Secretary of State John Kerry, gradually backed down over the course of the talks as Iran’s delegation dug in. The Wall Street Journal, citing current and former U.S. representatives at the discussions, claimed the White House had initially hoped to persuade Iran to dismantle much of the country’s nuclear infrastructure when talks started in late 2013, only to be told categorically that Iran would not do so.

The Journal reported that one Iranian diplomat called the nuclear program “our moon shot,” comparing it to the U.S. space program in the 1960s as a symbol of national pride and advancement. From that point, the Journal reports, the U.S. accepted that any possible deal would likely enable Iran to continue to enrich some uranium to produce nuclear fuel and turned their focus to extending Iran’s so-called “breakout time” or the minimum period that Iran would need to build a nuclear weapon.

Bizarre Syndrome Makes Visitors to Jerusalem Go Crazy

Posted: 05 Apr 2015 06:03 AM PDT

Bizarre Syndrome Makes Visitors to Jerusalem Go CrazyAs Christians and Jews around the world prepare to celebrate the holidays of Easter and Passover, many will flock to the city of Jerusalem. Since ancient times, the city has been a magnet for religious pilgrims from some of the world’s largest faiths — namely, Judaism, Christianity and Islam. But for a small percentage of these visitors, their reverence of Jerusalem may become pathological — in other words, a visit to the city may trigger obsessive ideas, delusions or other psychotic experiences. Some psychiatrists have dubbed this condition “Jerusalem syndrome,” and say it happens in people who have no prior history of mental illness. However, others dispute the diagnosis and say the condition is more likely part of a broader psychosis, and is not unique to Jerusalem.  “I’d never heard of it before,” admitted Simon Rego, director of psychology training at Albert Einstein College of Medicine/Montefiore Medical Center in New York City. “You see things like this emerge periodically in the literature, where people think they have found a unique syndrome,” but it may just be the result of an underlying mental illness, Rego told Live Science. Is China a danger to the U.S.?

Posted: 05 Apr 2015 05:58 AM PDT

Is China a danger to the U.S.?Among the most colossal shifts of our time has been the rise of China, from the black hole of Mao’s ruinous communism to a power increasingly to be reckoned with around the globe. But what is today’s China? Is it still communist? Capitalist? Is it friend or foe to the U.S.? Should we fear China’s rise? Resist it? Welcome it? What lies ahead? These are the big questions tackled by PJTV in a special in-depth series of video reports, “Made in China.” Hosted by PJTV’s Bill Whittle, with Scott Ott, this is a three-part exploration of what China has become, where it came from, and what might lie ahead. You can watch a trailer here. This is not your standard “mainstream media” China debate. For insights, PJTV enlisted people who have both firsthand experience with China and great respect for the principles of freedom and free markets; who proceed from the understanding that China’s model of a quasi-market economy coupled with continuing repression by China’s Communist Party is not – as some would have it – a recipe for stability. It is profoundly unstable. In the first segment, PJTV focuses on “China: Still Communist, or Have They Gone Capitalist?” Hillsdale College economics professor Charles Steele explains that China is still trying to walk a line between the two: It certainly has markets, but they are hugely subject to government intervention. Coming from utter destitution under Mao’s communism, the result of even limited freedom to do business and own property has been to lift more people out of poverty than has ever happened before, anywhere in the history of mankind. But China’s continuing political repression has left it with enormous and potentially explosive problems, yet to be solved. Terry Jones of Investor’s Business Daily jumps in to explain why China’s economy is running into growing difficulties, a shrinking work force, and why he believes “What has been called the China Miracle is officially over.” FULL REPORT

'700 CLUB' EXAMINES FUTURE ISLAMIC ANTICHRISTBefore Joel Richardson’s groundbreaking re-examination of Bible prophecy, “The Islamic Antichrist,” hit the New York Times bestsellers list a few years ago, evangelical Christians nearly universally saw scripture’s most feared future leader as a European.  Another eschatological domino fell this week when the ever-popular “700 Club” hosted the author’s review of his findings, which have captured the attention of Christians stunned by what they see happening in the Middle East and the Muslim world lining up precisely with what the the ancient Hebrew prophets had to say about the end times. The author of “Mideast Beast: The Scriptural Case for an Islamic Antichrist” sat down this week with host Gordon Robertson, who was filling in for his father, Pat, to explain how the Islamic “Mahdi,” the Muslim version of the Messiah, may be the same person as the Antichrist of the Bible. “When you look at Islamic tradition, sacred tradition, as they describe their primary messiah figure, the Mahdi, there’s numerous striking similarities with what the Bible describes with the Antichrist,” Richardson said. ‘They believe he’ll rule for seven years, they believe he’ll rule specifically from Jerusalem on the Temple Mount, they believe he’ll be a religious, military, political leader that will cause Islam to be supreme throughout the world, filled with anti-Semitism, anti-Christ, anti-Christian spirit and doctrine. It’s amazing how the two concepts, messianic concepts, really line up in what I call an ‘anti-parallel.’” FULL REPORT

Soaring dollar puts world on sale for Americans

Soaring dollar puts world on sale for AmericansAmericans have long complained that the dollar doesn’t buy much anymore. Suddenly, the dollar’s problem may be that it buys too much — a change that has huge implications across the global economy for consumers, businesses, investors and governments. The U.S. currency’s value has surged over the last nine months, reaching levels against some world currencies last seen more than a decade ago. In Europe, it now costs just $1.09 to buy one euro, down from $1.37 a year ago and almost $1.50 four years ago. To put it another way, an American tourist strolling the streets of Paris this April can buy 25% more croissants, cafe au laits or mini Eiffel towers than a year ago with the same dollars. The greenback’s advance has been even more dramatic against some rivals. With its latest rally, one buck buys 30% more Swedish kronor than a year ago, 40% more Brazilian reais and 61% more Russian rubles. FULL REPORT

Pentagon upgrades biggest ‘bunker buster’ bomb in case Iran talks fail

Pentagon upgrades biggest ‘bunker buster’ bomb in case Iran talks fail The Pentagon has upgraded and tested the largest bunker-buster bomb in the US, powerful enough to disable Iran’s most heavily fortified nuclear facilities in case of failure to reach a nuclear deal, a senior US official told the Wall Street Journal. “The Pentagon continues to be focused on being able to provide military options for Iran if needed,” an unnamed senior US official has been quoted as saying. “We have not taken our eyes off the ball.”  According to the Wall Street Journal report, work on the bunker buster (the so-called Massive Ordnance Penetrator, or MOP) started before the latest round of talks with Iran. The most recent testing took place in mid-January, when the improved bunker buster was dropped at a testing site at an undisclosed location by a B-2 bomber that took off from Whiteman Air Force Base in Missouri, officials told the publication. The Wall Street Journal reported in 2012 that according to Pentagon war planners the 30,000-pound (13,607 kg) bunker buster wasn’t powerful enough to destroy some fortified Iranian nuclear facilities. So work reportedly began to upgrade the bomb’s design and guidance systems. FULL REPORT

Are They Arming for Riots Across America? Homeland Stockpiling “Less Lethal Specialty Munitions”

Are They Arming for Riots Across America? Homeland Stockpiling “Less Lethal Specialty Munitions” One of the biggest stories for years in the alternative media was the mysterious and foreboding purchase by Homeland Security of more than 1.6 billion rounds of ammunition. Thanks to coverage on prominent sites like DrudgeReport, the story reached into mainstream media, prompting official spin and downplaying of the purchase. Now, a new Homeland Security purchase order listed on FedBizOpps also raises an eyebrow or two, given the heated and divided political and social climate at hand. Just look at what happened in Ferguson.  A request for “less lethal specialty munitions” for use by Homeland Security dated March 23, 2015 reads: U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) intends to solicit responses to Request for Information (RFI) 20082225-JTC for Less Lethal Specialty Munitions (LLSM) for use by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). CBP is interested in incorporating commercial and industry practices that support this type of procurement. To accomplish this, CBP intends to make industry a partner in all facets of the acquisition process, specifically by considering existing market capabilities, strengths and weaknesses for the acquisition of this commodity. Does The Bible Show That Jesus Of Nazareth Was Crucified On A Wednesday Morning?

Posted: 04 Apr 2015 04:42 PM PDT

Does The Bible Show That Jesus Of Nazareth Was Crucified On A Wednesday Morning?“For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale’s belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.” Matthew 12:40 (KJV)

All over the world this Friday, Christians and Catholics will be observing Good Friday. The Catholic church teaches that Jesus went to the cross on a Friday and rose from the grave on a Sunday morning. It sounds right, and mostly every one across the board accepts those days and that chronology. Only one problem. It’s completely wrong according to the biblicalaccount of what happened.

The Catholic teaching is based on 1 Corinthians 15:4 which says this: “And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:” 1 Corinthians 15:4 (KJV) They count Friday as one day, Saturday as the second day and Sunday as the third day. 3 days. Only it’s not 3 days, it’s barely a day and a half according to the Jewish calendar.  Jesus did not rise on Sunday morning, the bible says that He already “was risen” by the time Sunday morning rolled around. Read it for yourself: “Now when Jesus was risen early the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had cast seven devils.” Mark 16:9

“In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre.” “He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.” – Matthew 28:1,6

In all the gospel accounts, Jesus is already risen on Sunday morning. There is no account of His rising at that time, it has already happened. So if the Roman Catholic timeline is followed, you would have at the most 30 hours of elapsed time. Not even close enough to the “3 days and 3 nights” that Jesus Himself said would transpire. Chaos In Yemen: Chinese Troops Arrive As US-Armed Rebels Set Sights On Central BankIranian-backed Houthi rebels are now in control of the central Crater district in the key Yemeni port city of Aden despite a seventh consecutive day of bombing raids by the Saudi-led coalition which is keen on preventing the city from falling. Aden is the second largest city in the country with a population of some 800,000 and as noted by The Guardian, is “the last major holdout of fighters loyal to the Saudi-backed President Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi.” Residents have reported the presence of tanks, sniper fire, and patrolling Houthi fighters as the militia moves closer to exerting complete control over the city. Via The GuardianResidents of Aden’s central Crater district said Houthi fighters and their allies were in control of the neighbourhood by midday on Thursday, deploying tanks and foot patrols through its otherwise empty streets after heavy fighting in the morning. It was the first time fighting on the ground had reached so deeply into central Aden. Crater is home to the local branch of Yemen’s central bank and many commercial businesses. FULL REPORT

TEPCO under fire after hiding massive radioactive waste leak at Fukushima for a full yearA major bombshell has dropped concerning the failed cleanup efforts at the stricken Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant in Japan. The shuttered plant’s operator, the Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO), has apparently been hiding for an entire year the fact that radioactive waste has been quietly pouring into the ocean from an onsite drainage ditch. Sputnik News reports that TEPCO, which is also managing remediation efforts at the site (with guidance from the Japanese government), concealed from the public the fact that highly contaminated radioactive water has been flowing from the drainage ditch directly into the ocean. Local fishermen and others have since expressed outrage over the news. “I don’t understand why you (TEPCO) kept silent about the leakage even though you knew about it,” stated Masakazu Yabuki, chief of the Iwaki fisheries cooperative, according to Sputnik. “Fishery operators are absolutely shocked.” FULL REPORT

CDC building 'police state' registry system to track your vaccination status Imagine a world in which the government has free access to your private medical records for the purpose of ensuring your compliance with official vaccination mandates. The United States is on the cusp of such tyranny with an Immunization Information Systems (IIS) program currently being built by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) that will make your vaccination status available to health authorities, healthcare providers and “other authorized stakeholders.” The CDC describes the program as a system of “confidential, population-based, computerized databases that record all immunization doses administered by participating providers to persons residing within a given geopolitical area.” In other words, it’s a vast network of tracking systems that keep tabs on who’s getting jabbed in accordance with official guidelines and who’s choosing to opt for natural immunity instead. As explained by The Greater Good documentary writer and director Leslie Manookian, IIS is a vaccine registry system designed to identify and track areas of so-called “undervaccination” for which intervention by government jackboots is necessary to achieve certain vaccination targets — in this case, that means a 95 percent or higher vaccination rate across the country. Russian ships in old Arctic NATO base set alarms bells ringingPosted: 03 Apr 2015 05:18 PM PDT

Russian ships in old Arctic NATO base set alarms bells ringingRussian ships docked at what was once a secret Norwegian naval base in the Arctic have prompted concern from the NATO country’s former top military leaders, anxious about its resurgent eastern neighbour roaming nearby.  Norway’s jagged Arctic coastline has regained its strategic importance since tensions between Russia and NATO members have spiked to levels not seen since the fall of the Soviet Union. The rocky relations have led some to criticise the shutting down of Olavsvern Naval Base, a massive complex burrowed into a mountain near the northern town of Tromsoe, that has been closed since 2009. Shuttering it was driven by the then seemingly reduced threat from Moscow and its massive Northern Fleet based on Russia’s nearby Kola Peninsula. “We sold the only base worthy of the name that we had up there. It’s pure madness,” former vice admiral Einar Skorgen, who commanded Norway’s northern forces, told AFP. Skorgen and other critics say Norway has robbed itself of a crucial foothold in the far north, forcing its submarines to travel hundreds of extra miles from their bases to defend the region. On top of that, three Russian ships have spent the winter docked deep within the mountain hideaway, once a closely guarded military facility. FULL REPORT

Hundreds of Thousands in Donations Pour in for Pizzeria Forced to Close Over Biblical Marriage BeliefsPosted: 03 Apr 2015 05:10 PM PDT

Hundreds of Thousands in Donations Pour in for Pizzeria Forced to Close Over Biblical Marriage BeliefsHundreds of thousands in donations have poured in out of a show of support to a pizzeria that was forced to close after it faced arson and death threats by homosexual activists and advocates simply for expressing their biblical beliefs on marriage when asked by a local news station. The matter began when reporter Alyssa Marino of ABC 57 News in South Bend set out to interview area business owners about their reaction to the controversy over the recently signed Indiana Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA). Among the businesses that she visited was Memories Pizza in Walkerton, a place that is decorated with crosses and quotes from Scripture, and begins each morning with prayer. The establishment had never turned anyone away, nor were there any complaints about the pizzeria, and owner Crystal O’Connor explained to Marino that if a homosexual couple or someone of another religion came to eat there, Memories Pizza would never deny them service. “I just walked into their shop and asked how they feel,” Marino explained on Twitter. “They’ve never been asked to cater a same-sex wedding.” FULL REPORT

CERN restart expected over EasterPosted: 03 Apr 2015 05:06 PM PDT

CERN restart expected over EasterEngineers have upgraded and remodelled the particle-accelerator LHC. Now a scheduled restart had to be delayed due to a short circuit in an electromagnet. The collection of data in 2015 will probably not be affected. During the two-year reconstruction phase, the particle-accelerator is expected to nearly double the energy levels achieved in its collisions. Physicists said they hoped this would open the door to an even deeper understanding of our universe. “We are all very excited,” CERN director Rolf-Dieter Heuer said at a press conference on March 12. Since its initial launch in 2008, CERN researchers in Geneva have been using the 27-kilometer-long particle accelerator to smash protons together at just under the speed of light. Directly after the collision, the particles break up into their smallest building blocks, like Hadrons and Bosons. One of them is the Higgs-Boson, a particle that was previously only known as a theoretical quantity, but its existence was physically proven just before the LHC was shut down three years ago. The particles are recorded with huge sensors that have a similar function to light-detecting chips in digital cameras. FULL REPORT

Greece draws up drachma plans, prepares to miss IMF paymentPosted: 03 Apr 2015 04:39 PM PDT

Greece draws up drachma plans, prepares to miss IMF payment Greece is drawing up drastic plans to nationalise the country’s banking system and introduce a parallel currency to pay bills unless the eurozone takes steps to defuse the simmering crisis and soften its demands. Sources close to the ruling Syriza party said the government is determined to keep public services running and pay pensions as funds run critically low. It may be forced to take the unprecedented step of missing a payment to the International Monetary Fund next week. Greece no longer has enough money to pay the IMF €458m on April 9 and also to cover payments for salaries and social security on April 14, unless the eurozone agrees to disburse the next tranche of its interim bail-out deal in time. “We are a Left-wing government. If we have to choose between a default to the IMF or a default to our own people, it is a no-brainer,” said a senior official. “We may have to go into a silent arrears process with the IMF. This will cause a furore in the markets and means that the clock will start to tick much faster,” the source told The Telegraph. FULL REPORT

Shocking Passover Blood Moon Predictions By Israeli RabbiPosted: 03 Apr 2015 04:35 PM PDT

Shocking Passover Blood Moon Predictions By Israeli RabbiA mystic rabbi living in southern Israel is urging all Jews to pray and repent as the third Blood Moon of a tetrad cycle approaches. Rabbi Amram Vaknin, who similarly predicted the events of the Gaza flotilla and the Carmel forest fire in 2010, and Operations Pillar of Defense (2012) and Protective Edge (2014), warns that Israel is facing great judgment and potential danger at this time. One of Rabbi Vaknin’s students, Gil Nachman, spoke to Breaking Israel News and, quoting the sage, explained that the numeric value of the Hebrew word for blood, dam, which is 44, alludes to the 44th president of the United States.  Vaknin predicted that the 44th president would bring bloodshed (dam) to the Jewish people. It should be noted that the rabbi made this prediction before President Barack Obama’s election to office. Vaknin believes that only 44 plus one, or 45, can counter the danger represented by the blood moons. This, he says, is Adam, or Man, which in this case refers to the Messiah. FULL REPORT

NY Boy Scouts hires gay leader despite national policyPosted: 03 Apr 2015 04:31 PM PDT

NY Boy Scouts hires gay leader despite national policy The Boy Scouts’ New York chapter said Thursday that it has hired the nation’s first openly gay Eagle Scout as a summer camp leader, a direct and public challenge to the national Scouting organization’s ban on openly gay adult members. The Boy Scouts’ national spokesman, Deron Smith, said there was no change in that national policy, which has been highly divisive. As for any further response to the New York announcement, Smith said, “We are looking into this matter.” The challenge to the national headquarters was laid down by the Boy Scouts’ Greater New York Councils, which announced the hiring of Pascal Tessier, an 18-year-old Eagle Scout. Tessier has been a vocal advocate for opening the 105-year-old organization to gay Scouts and leaders. “We received this application from this young man, and we found him highly qualified on all the merits,” board member Richard G. Mason said by phone. The New York group, like some other local Scouting councils, has said before that it is open to gay employees. FULL REPORT

President Barack Obama speaks the Rose Garden of the White House in Washington, Thursday, April 2, 2015. (AP Photo/Susan Walsh)

Extolling the virtues of his deal with Iran on Thursday, President Barack Obama made a false and extremely nasty assertion: “It’s no secret,” he claimed, incorrectly, “that the Israeli prime minister and I don’t agree about whether the United States should move forward with a peaceful resolution to the Iranian issue.”

It is indeed no secret that Obama and Netanyahu don’t agree on how to thwart Iran’s nuclear weapons ambitions. It is emphatically not the case, however, that Israel’s prime minister opposes “a peaceful resolution to the Iranian issue.” It is emphatically not the case, despite Obama’s insinuation, that Israel’s leader regards military intervention as the only means to thwart Iran.

Netanyahu has not been saying no to diplomacy. His endlessly stated contention is not that war is the only alternative to the deal so delightedly hailed by Obama as “the most effective way to ensure Iran doesn’t get a nuclear weapon.” Rather, in Netanyahu’s insistent opinion, what is needed is simply a different, far more potent deal.

Khalid al-Mansour, George Soros And The Creation Of Barack Hussein Obama

Obama’s links to hardcore anti-American people and groups is so pervasive that had he applied to work at the White House prior to becoming president, he would NOT have received a security clearance.

Questions For Indiana’s Critics

“One of the difficulties in this discussion, from a conservative perspective, is that the definition of “common sense” and “compromise” on these issues has shifted so rapidly in such a short time: Positions taken by, say, the president of the United States and most Democratic politicians a few short years ago are now deemed the purest atavism.”

Thus began one of the most important turns away from evangelical Christianity which has haunted the mainline denominations in America ever since.”

Culture Wars: Let’s Look at the Bright Side

Yes, there is a bright side to the many battles we find ourselves embroiled in. When the battles are raging all around us, that is when the true soldiers come to the fore and are proven in the face of battle. And the battles of course are many, especially the overwhelming onslaught of the militant homosexual juggernaut.

I am here to tell you that the constant promotion, exaltation, glamorisation, aggrandisement, endorsement and elevation of all things homosexual is actually good news. It is good news because this really has become a key litmus test as to where the church of Jesus Christ is at, and who is and is not a genuine disciple of his.

Was the Resurrection a Result of Mass Hallucinations?

There are two facts one must address to disprove Christianity:

  • The historical evidence in favor of the resurrection
  • The rapid growth of Christianity in a hostile environment

In part one of our series we looked at the idea the Jesus’ body was stolen. In part two we considered the possibility that Jesus didn’t really die at all. Today we’ll consider the idea that the post crucifixion sightings of Jesus were mass hallucinations.

This theory was first popularized by David Strauss[1]. It’s the belief that the Apostles experienced mass hallucinations which explain their belief that Jesus rose from the dead. In their grief, guilt, and shock that Christ was killed, they had psychological experiences (collective or subjective) where they believed they saw something that wasn’t there.

Who Are the Main Characters of Genesis? Laura Kranz. Your Sunday School answers are useless! It’s not “Jesus,” “Bible,” or “gospel”! So who are the top ten most referenced characters of the Bible’s first book? I’ll admit: a couple of the folks on this list surprised me…as did a few (Adam? Noah?) that didn’t crack the top ten.

Articles of the Week

Eight Things Christians Need to Do More on Social Media, Neal Samudre. As Samudre points out, “The internet doesn’t have to be a terrible place.” Here are a few tips to help make it that way. (As a further benefit, read this article a second time…and apply everything to in person interactions. No surprise there: kindness, compassion, and wisdom aren’t just in short supply online. They don’t come naturally to any of us, regardless of the venue.)

What You Should Know About “Religious Freedom Restoration Acts,” Joe Carter. If you are the sort of person who cares about contemporary politics and only reads headlines (shame shame), you might be inclined to conclude that the governor of Indiana recently issued a “Final Solution” edict against all gays and lesbians. This is peculiar, considering what actually transpired this week. Let’s lay the vitriol down for a moment and consider, as Carter calmly does, what is actually going on.

How to Treat Gays with Dignity (While Respecting Religious Freedom), Trevin Wax. Carter offers some background on the Indiana law itself. But Wax gives a helpful perspective, reminding both sides in debates like these that their ideological opponents aren’t their mortal foes. This shouldn’t be a zero-sum game, in which we have to choose between religious freedom and legitimate dignity for those in the LGBT community. “We’re Americans,” Wax writes, “We’re better than this.” I pray he’s right.

Google: The Window to Your Soul, Aaron Earls. Google is watching, whether you find that truth terrifying or terrific. But whether we appreciate or fear this online behemoth, we have to agree that Google shows us a side of ourselves that we might not otherwise see. What do our Google searches say about us? (Quite a bit, actually.) And what exactly are we looking for? (Sadly, quite a bit more than Google can offer.)

The Evil Easter Bunny is Going to Sacrifice Your Kids to A Pagan Goddess, So Let’s Show the World That World That We Are Not Happy That Jesus Rose from the Dead, Oy, Vey, Fluffy Matzah Balls… – “Sadly, there has been a great amount of Easter bashing over the internet this year due to claims of Pagan origins and evil symbols. In the attempt to decimate Easter, I fear the gospel has been buried beneath mutilated bunny ears and the remains of shattered chocolate eggs. I find the whole thing strange, because I don’t know anyone who professes to follow Christ and yet sacrifices bunnies on an altar to the god of Ishtar, or bows down to Easter eggs.”

Remove the evil from among you – “As the true Gospel is proclaimed with power it is always accompanied by the Law which is used by the Holy Spirit to reveal to the lost their utter need for a Saviour and the complete helplessness to save themselves from the coming wrath of God upon all sin that has not been covered by blood of Christ through his atoning work on the Cross. Those who have not been justified by faith alone through grace alone through believing the Gospel and receiving Christ as Lord and Saviour are those mentioned in the passage above that are ‘outsiders.’”

So who do you think of when I say “Apostle of God”? – “I’ve been reading and sorting through multiple books, using Jack Hayford’s The Charismatic Century as a jumping off point from which to fill in some historic blanks of the 70’s and 80’s. Jack was definitely a large part of the Charismatic world at that time and personally knew almost every single mover and shaker (ha!) in Pentecostal and Charismatic circles from that era.”

Robert Schuller, Crystal Cathedral megachurch founder, dies – “The Rev. Robert H. Schuller, the Southern California televangelist and author who beamed his upbeat messages on faith and redemption to millions from his landmark Crystal Cathedral only to see his empire crumble in his waning years, has died. He was 88.  Schuller died early Thursday at a care facility in Artesia, daughter Carol Schuller Milner said. In 2013, Schuller was diagnosed with a tumor in his esophagus that had spread to his lymph nodes and began treatment.”

Jesus Became a Curse for Us – “One image, one aspect, of the atonement has receded in our day almost into obscurity. We have been made aware of present-day attempts to preach a more gentle and kind gospel. In our effort to communicate the work of Christ more kindly we flee from any mention of a curse inflicted by God upon his Son. We shrink in horror from the words of the prophet Isaiah (chap. 53) that describe the ministry of the suffering servant of Israel and tells us that it pleased the Lord to bruise him. Can you take that in? Somehow the Father took pleasure in bruising the Son when he set before him that awful cup of divine wrath. How could the Father be pleased by bruising his Son were it not for his eternal purpose through that bruising to restore us as his children?”

Will Bill’s next book be called “Killing The Bible”?

“Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.” John 3:7 (KJV)

For some reason, Bill O’Reilly has been on an anti-Christian rampage lately. He has already displayed his woeful ignorance of the Scriptures with his profit-motivated book and miniseries called “Killing Jesus”. Now he calls born again Christians “disturbing”.

If Bill knew anything about the bible, he would know where the expression to be “born again” first originated. In the third chapter of John, Jesus is talking to Nicodemus and he tells him this:

“Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” John 3:3 (KJV)

Bill mockingly states that “born again Christians believe that if you are not born again, you will go to Hell”. Well, guess what Bill? Jesus believes that, too, and that’s exactly what He told Nicodemus in the bible. But you would have to actually read the bible in order to know it’s in there, I guess.

Understanding the Doctrines of grace in the face of the death, burial, & resurrection of Christ

This Holy weekend we focus on the death, burial and resurrection of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  I offer these thoughts and this sermon by Phil Johnson which is actually a brief overview of church history with a focus on the doctrines of grace, which most people know as ‘Calvinism’. Initially one may wonder how these two streams of thought are intertwined, but as you will see, they are intertwined so tightly that a clearer understanding of Jesus and the faith he secured for us through His death, burial, and resurrection will be made manifest.

Perceiving that Christ is in total control of each and every salvation, through understanding these biblical doctrines, will hopefully do several things in the reader’s and listener’s heart. One, is that the dear reader will never, ever again use the terrible phrase, “decisions for Christ.” We do not decide to become a Christian. The author and finisher of our faith is Jesus Christ. (Hebrews 12:2).

Secondly, on this most precious of weekends, understanding the biblical doctrines of grace will offer a clearer view of Jesus and His love for humanity. Here is a very good teaching by Phil Johnson. He gives an overview of church history which illustrates when the eruption between the two camps originated. It was 410AD. The two camps are: we decide for Jesus vs. God’s sovereignty in salvation AKA Pelagianism vs. Calvinism. Hopefully, you will understand that the opposite camp, Pelagianism, minimizes the seriousness of sin and nullifies the need for Divine grace. This weekend is about grace!

Pelagianism was declared heresy in 430 AD. Yet its ideas remained, modified somewhat, and then was called Semi-Pelaginaism. This also was declared heresy in 529 at the Council of Orange. Still not firmly stamped out, strains of Semi-Pelagianism ideas advanced and nowadays modern Arminianism is the result of those debates from earlier centuries. If you hear the phrases walk the aisle, pray a prayer and decide for Christ, it’s from Arminianism.

The synopsis of Johnson’s teaching is below. I’m sorry, I was not able to find a transcript. It is audio only with powerpoint slides.

I want to emphasize, WE DO NOT DECIDE FOR CHRIST. On this most important of weekends, understand who Jesus is and what His death, burial and resurrection means, by understanding the full expression of His work in authoring and finishing our faith. Phil Johnson biblically lays this out.

Calvinism is not some quirky anomaly in the history of Christianity. It is not a recent departure from  the mainstream that is headed off in some bizarre direction. The truth is these ideas have always belonged to the mainstream of sound theology throughout church history. It is one of the distinctive doctrines of Christianity itself. It is the anchor of sound doctrine that our faith is the result and not the cause of God’s work in our hearts. ~Phil Johnson

Synopsis of the teaching-sermon: The Christian doctrine of ‘Election’ has caused more difficulties to believers than any other. It is indeed one of the most frequently misunderstood of all Biblical teachings. Many have been distressed by what they think this teaching means. But rather than causing Christians concern, this doctrine is actually one that should fill believers with comfort and a much better grasp of the great and sovereign God that they serve. … a very helpful overview of Calvinism and its history, which actually sets the doctrine of election in the context of the Biblical teaching with which it is most commonly associated. Once correctly understood, election is seen to be actually a demonstration of the Lord’s love for his people. These two recordings will be a great help to those who are struggling to understand this most difficult, yet wonderful, doctrine.

Guest introduction by R. Craig Fulford:

Given it is Easter weekend you might expect me to post a tremendously dynamic sermon on the resurrection. But I’m not!

Instead I have chosen to share with all of you a sermon delivered by Phil Johnson entitled “The Story of Calvinism”. Now before you run screaming for the exits, allow me to explain.

For the most part, in today’s Church environment, any mention of the term Calvinism is met with an almost automatic response of “thrown up hands” and criticism. And that has been the result of many years in Biblical doctrine being compromised in favor of the belief that somehow man is in control and can make his own decision about whether or not he will accept God’s grace and His gift of salvation. The belief that a lost and spiritually dead man somehow has the “free will” to control his own salvation is now epidemic.

Phil does a tremendously effective job of diffusing the animus which exists between those who adopt the Arminian (Synergistic) view and those who are committed to the Monergistic (Reformed) view. Or at least he makes a strong attempt in trying to accomplish that goal without sacrificing Biblical truth.

Monergism says that the Holy Ghost acts independently of the human “will” in the work of regeneration. Monergism is the position in Christian theology that God, through the Holy Spirit, works to bring about the salvation of individuals through spiritual regeneration without any cooperation (interference) from the individual.

Synergism is the position of those who hold that salvation involves some form of cooperation between divine grace and human “free will”. Synergism is upheld by the Orthodox and Roman Catholic Churches and by the Methodist, Episcopal, Charismatic and Pentecostal traditions of Protestantism. It is an integral part of Arminian theology and is simply the belief that the human can and might choose to cooperate (influence) with the Holy Ghost in His “work” of regeneration.

It’s important to note that “free will” is never once mentioned in Scripture nor is the concept. I know, neither is the “Trinity” but the truth of that concept is unmistakably taught.

So, you must be asking yourself, are there born again believers in churches that have adopted the Arminian doctrine? And if God has already pre-destined those who will be born again, why should Christians ever bother to witness? I mean, “What difference does it really make”?

Listen to Phil’s message and see the slides to have these kind of very serious questions answered! It only seems appropriate, while our minds are on His resurrection this weekend, to examine what it means to us as sinners in need of a Savior. It is too important that we understand what His sacrifice and victory over death represents to get it wrong!

Particular atonement: Christ’s death had a particular purpose, and a special reference for the elect, so that God’s design was first of all to save them, and Christ’s death secured the guarantee of their salvation. Christ’s death accomplished everything God designed it to accomplish. ~Phil Johnson

Can Angels Marry?

Q.  I tend to think the theory that Nephilim were a result of the fallen angels mating with human women makes sense. Yet, I am still confused by the fact that Jesus Himself said that angels do not marry, nor are they given in marriage in Matt 22:30 while Genesis 6:2 explicitly states that the “sons of God” married the daughters of women.  And the fact that even if they did possess a human male for this process rather than just manifesting themselves as a human, how could the angelic part of the Union be passed on to offspring if life reproduces after its own kind according to Genesis and yet the Angels don’t reproduce?

Faith Plus Works?

Ask a Bible Teacher

Q.  In a question on law and grace, you made this statement:  “During the dispensation of Law, believers had to give evidence of their faith by keeping the Law. During the Dispensation of Grace, also known as the Church Age, this evidence is not required.”

My question is:  that James speaks of our faith as dead without works.  To me this means that our faith is also evidenced by our works –  not that our works save us, our salvation as in the OT is also based on faith.  But in the NT, if we do not have works that evidence our faith as well, then that faith is dead.  Not understanding how you can say this based on James teachings.

Interesting Facts About Easter. Follow Up

Ask a Bible Teacher

Q.  Re: Interesting Facts About Easter.   This was confusing to me.  Your answer says it is not related to Passover in the first few sentences, but in the last sentence states it is 3 days after Passover. Which one is it? I always thought it was 3 days after Passover that Jesus was resurrected. Are you simply saying Easter itself is separate from Jesus’s resurrection and is simply the spring equinox?
