“Dead broke” Hillary Clinton makes more money in an hour than top-paid CEO

$300,000 an hour for a speech $300,000 an hour for a speech

Astonishing article from the Washington Examiner.

Excerpt:

Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton is drawing a populist bead on lavish Wall Street pay packages as she revs up her march to the 2016 Democratic presidential nomination, but in some respects the fat-per-speech fee she can charge puts her far ahead of the top 10 highest-paid American CEOs.

“I think it’s fair to say that if you look across the country, the deck is stacked in favor of those already at the top. There’s something wrong when CEOs make 300 times more than the American worker…,” Clinton said during her first campaign swing last week at an Iowa community college.

Bashing Wall Streeters is part of Clinton’s strategy of remaking her image to appear more sympathetic to middle class voters, while also appealing to left-wing Democrats who are attracted to Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., and…

After Massacre Video by ISIL, Obama Admits Faith of Victims

The Islamic State franchise in Libya released a 30-minute video over the weekend showing two separate group executions of Ethiopian Christians. If you dive into the madness and try to follow ISIL’s “logic,” it seems these jihadis murdered 30 people for evading the tax on nonbelievers. ISIL filmed a man who says he is a Christian and enjoys living in ISIL territory — he has not yet been killed. But that was offset by images of ISIL destroying churches, desecrating graves and the narrator of the video announcing, “Our battle is a battle between faith and blasphemy, between truth and falsehood.” The Obama administration released a statement admitting that, yes, the Ethiopian Christians were killed because of their beliefs. The office of Obama’s press secretary said, “That these terrorists killed these men solely because of their faith lays bare the terrorists’ vicious, senseless brutality. This atrocity once again underscores the urgent need for a political resolution to the conflict in Libya to empower a unified Libyan rejection of terrorist groups.” Now, if the Obama administration would only admit ISIL committed these murders because of its extreme, Islamic faith. Maybe then it wouldn’t put its hope in more “political resolutions.” More…

Slate Marvels at Obama’s Squeaky Clean Record

Ever wondered what “Obama’s Gift to Hillary Clinton” might be? Well, with that headline, Slate reporter Jamelle Bouie explains, “No modern-day president has left his potential successor a less scandal-plagued legacy than Barack Obama.” Is he kidding? No, he’s not, as he goes on to recount Fast and Furious, Benghazi and the IRS … only to dismiss them entirely as not having anything to do with Obama himself. Never mind that Fast and Furious had a body count in the hundreds; “[U]nlike Iran-Contra or Clinton’s impeachment,” Bouie says, “none of these were consequential for Obama’s presidency.” If nothing else, that’s a tribute to Slate and other Leftmedia rags, which have circled the wagons for Obama to a degree not seen before. Just as belittling scandals doesn’t absolve Obama, ignoring other scandals doesn’t mean they didn’t happen. Bouie fails to mention the wait lists at VA hospitals, Obama’s swap of five jihadis for deserter Bowe Bergdahl, the political favoritism in the GM and Chrysler bailout, giving billions in un-repaid loans to “green” energy companies, or letting the Black Panthers off the hook for voter intimidation. And what about leaving Libya and Yemen in anarchy, and Iraq to the Islamic State? Bouie has no use for any of that because he’s too busy criticizing George W. Bush’s foreign policy. As for Hillary Clinton, well, she has enough unclaimed baggage to start a retail chain, so even if Obama were clean it hardly makes her so.

Study: EPA Preparing to Slash Another 300,000 Jobs

The Environmental Protection Agency is putting the final touches on a rule requiring a 30% reduction of CO2 emissions from fossil fuel-burning power plants by 2030. An independent analysis by The Heritage Foundation predicts “[a]n average employment shortfall of nearly 300,000 jobs,” adding the U.S. may lose half a million jobs in the manufacturing sector and 45% of the jobs in the coal mining industry. As for the EPA, it says collateral damage could cost up to 80,000 jobs. But a new American Action Forum report, whose findings mirror that of Heritage, says the EPA isn’t taking secondary impacts into consideration. All told, nearly 100 power plants may be taken offline, which will have major economic ramifications. “Based on American Action Forum (AAF) research … more than 90 coal-fired power plants could be retired across the country,” write Catrina Rorke and Sam Batkins. “Secondary employment impacts suggest that EPA’s power plant regulation could eliminate 296,000 jobs, about the population of Cincinnati, Ohio, and more than the total number of jobs the economy created in February 2015.” The writers conclude, “EPA might tout the benefits of its proposal, but the significant job losses are just as noteworthy.” Indeed. Unfortunately, all that’s important in the minds of this administration is, as EPA administrator Gina McCarthy explained, “We have a moral obligation to act.” A very contorted moral obligation.

So It Appears a Ukrainian Oligarch Bribed Hillary Clinton…

The decision by the Bill, Hillary and Chelsea Clinton Foundation to stop accepting donations from foreign governments last week came too late to protect the front-running Democrat candidate from a serious accusation of impropriety. Not that it would have helped. The Clinton Foundation only stopped taking the money from governments — not individuals. And Victor Pinchuk, owner of a pipe manufacturing company, is just the kind person who will cause headaches for the Hillary Clinton campaign. In 2011 and 2012, Pinchuk’s company made business deals with Iran, once shipping $1.7 million worth of pipe to the country. Normally, a business deal over $1 million with Iran would trigger sanctions against the company by the State Department. But Hillary Clinton was head of the department, and Pinchuk poured millions of dollars into the Clinton Foundation. It was so much money that Newsweek reports he is the “largest individual contributor to the Clinton Foundation.” Furthermore, Pinchuk and Bill Clinton are supposedly good friends, attending each other’s birthdays. To this day, there are no sanctions against Pinchuk’s Interpipe Group, even though former representative Steve Stockman called for an investigation into the company’s business dealings. Pinchuk may have spent the most money, but he certainly isn’t the only one to give money to the Clintons for more reasons than simple charity. More…

No ‘Equal Pay’ for Michelle Obama?

So-called income inequality has been and will continue to be a “war on women” theme for Democrats, who know little else but pitting one bitter constituency against a better off one. This time, Barack Obama is complaining that his wife isn’t paid well enough. “Let me tell you, now, Michelle would point out first ladies get paid nothing,” he said. “So there’s clearly not equal pay in the White House when it comes to her and me. But before we were in the White House, I wanted to make sure Michelle got paid as much as she could. I want a big paycheck for Michelle. That wasn’t a women’s issue. If she had a bigger paycheck, that made us able to pay the bills. Why would I want my spouse or my daughter discriminated against? That doesn’t make any sense.” There are perfectly legitimate reasons for most of the slight income inequality that does exist, but it’s also not nearly the problem Democrats want you to believe. Not to mention “first lady” isn’t a paid or elected position. More to the point, Obama’s bill-paying sob story must be a reference to Michelle’s stint as vice president of the University of Chicago Medical Center, where she earned a salary of more than $300,000 in 2005 alone and nearly $900,000 between 2004 and 2008. We’d say that falls outside the experience of most middle-class Americans. But next thing you know they’ll be telling us they, too, left the White House “dead broke.”

Helicopter Parents? Helicopter Government Is More Like It

By Arnold Ahlert

2015-04-20-2fb8d65d_large.jpg

Apparently, the brownshirts who masquerade as government officials in Maryland believe doing something utterly outrageous once is worth doing it twice. For the second time in five months, two children, ages 10 and 6, were picked up by police for the “crime” of walking home unsupervised within a mile of their home.

The first incident occurred Dec. 20, when the children attempted to make the trek home from Silver Spring park. Police picked them up and brought them home to parents Danielle and Alexander Meitiv, from whom they demanded identification and warned about the dangers of the world. Montgomery County Child Protective Services (CPS) showed up two hours later and demanded that Alexander sign a safety plan promising he would not leave his children unsupervised until the following Monday, when CPS would follow up. He initially refused, saying he wanted to talk to a lawyer, but ultimately complied — because CPS threatened to remove his children from the home. After the holidays, CPS called and said they needed to come to the home and make further inquiries. Danielle resisted, but a worker showed up anyway. She refused to let him in. Later she was stunned when told by her children’s principal that CPS had interviewed her children at school.

Ultimately, the Meitivs were found responsible for “unsubstantiated child neglect,” meaning CPS would maintain a file on the family for at least five years, leaving open the question of what would occur if the children were allowed to walk home alone again. “We don’t feel it was appropriate for an investigation to start, much less conclude that we are responsible for some form of child neglect,” said Danielle Meitiv after the first incident, even as she wondered if her family would get caught in a “Kafkaesque loop” if her children were stopped walking by themselves again.

Flash forward to Sunday, April 12. Once again, the kids were on their way home from Ellsworth Park at 5 p.m. when they were stopped by officers — in three separate squad cars — three blocks from their house. This time, the kids were kept in a squad car for nearly three hours and away from their frantic parents who expected them home at 6 p.m. Adding insult to injury, the CPS didn’t notify the Meitivs they had their kids in custody until 8 p.m. and wouldn’t let the parents see them until 10:30 p.m. They were allowed to take the children home, but once again had to sign an agreement saying they would not be left unattended until CPS followed up on the case.

During the entire time the kids were held they were not fed, and Danielle told The Washington Post her son said the children were misled into believing the police would take them home. Police also had the parents’ contact info and did not call them or allow their children to do so. Apparently the quaint notion that one is entitled to a phone call didn’t apply here.

What’s really going on? The Meitivs believe in a concept known as “free-range parenting,” as in the effort to raise independent, self-reliant children by incrementally testing limits and allowing them a certain amount of freedom away from overly protective parents. The reason such a seemingly basic parenting approach must be formally conceptualized is due in large part to the explosion of its polar opposite, more familiarly known as “helicopter parenting.” Helicopter parents are those who “hover” over their children. Licensed psychologist Ann Dunnewold aptly describes the phenomenon: “It means being involved in a child’s life in a way that is overcontrolling, overprotecting, and overperfecting, in a way that is in excess of responsible parenting.”

To be fair, there are excesses and extremes in both parenting camps. But the germane question is this: Which style is preferred by the increasing number of big-government, busybody bureaucrats and their seemingly insatiable desire to insert themselves in as many facets of peoples’ lives as they possibly can?

If one knows the answer to that question, it becomes simple to understand why the heavy hand of government has been laid upon the shoulders of Danielle and Alexander Meitiv.

Fortunately, the Meitivs have legal precedent on their side. Meyer v. Nebraska and Pierce v. Society of Sisters were two landmark cases from the 1920s in which the Supreme Court ruled that the 14th Amendment’s Due Process Clause allows parents and guardians “to direct the upbringing and education of children under their control.” In Troxel v. Granville, a case adjudicated in 2000, the Court reaffirmed the “fundamental right of parents to make decisions concerning the care, custody, and control of their children,” further characterizing those decisions as “perhaps the oldest of the fundamental liberty interests recognized by this Court.” None of these rulings mean parental rights are absolute. The state can intervene to protect children from health and safety hazards and to ensure they receive an education. But they must have compelling evidence to do so.

Picking up two elementary school-aged kids walking home by themselves — just as millions of American children used to do before the professional hand-wringers and their government enablers turned life itself into an all-encompassing hazard — doesn’t pass the sniff test. As George Mason University law professor Ilya Somin so rightly explains, if the CPS can force parents to stop children from walking home alone, “it can similarly target every other comparably risky activity, including numerous sports, and even driving the children in a car.”

The DC-based law firm of Wiley Rein apparently agrees. They will pursue “all legal remedies” to protect the Meitivs’ rights, further noting the parents were “rightfully outraged by the irresponsible actions” of the Maryland CPS. “We must ask ourselves how we reached the point where a parent’s biggest fear is that government officials will literally seize our children off the streets as they walk in our neighborhoods,” said attorney Matthew Dowd in a written statement. In a telling indication of their commitment, Wiley Rein will be representing the Meitivs pro bono.

Here’s hoping the “helicopter government” in Montgomery County, Maryland, gets it wings seriously clipped.

OPINION IN BRIEF

The Gipper: “The glistening hope of that lamp is still ours. Every promise every opportunity is still golden in this land. And through that golden door our children can walk into tomorrow with the knowledge that no one can be denied the promise that is America.”

Columnist Star Parker: “[T]he central question moving forward is whether the American public is happy with the socialism they’ve gotten thus far. If they are, most likely they will choose the white female socialist to replace the black male. Republicans will be tempted to make this campaign about Mrs. Clinton’s very dubious character. An alleged feminist who built her career by staying married to a life-long adulterer because he was successful. The storming of our embassy and murder of our ambassador in Benghazi, Libya, under her watch as Secretary of State. Her use of a private email account for official State Department business and then erasing it all. But as politically juicy as all this might be, it would be unfortunate if Mrs. Clinton’s questionable self defined this campaign. This election should be about what kind of America Americans want. When I began my work in public policy over twenty years ago, my goal was to move black America off Uncle Sam’s Plantation to join the rest of America living freely, creatively and prosperously. Never did I dream … [that,] rather than blacks moving off the government plantation, the rest of America would move onto it. … Hopefully Republicans will give voters a real choice in 2016 — a candidate of any race or gender who wants to push back on government, increase personal freedom, and promote traditional family values.”

Economist Stephen Moore: “Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren recently appeared on one of the late night talk shows, beating the class warfare drum and arguing for billions of dollars in new social programs paid for with higher taxes on millionaires and billionaires. In recent years, though, blue states such as California, Illinois, Delaware, Connecticut, Hawaii, Maryland and Minnesota adopted this very strategy, and they raised taxes on their wealthy residents. How did it work out? Almost all of these states lag behind the national average in growth of jobs and incomes. … States are supposed to be laboratories of democracy, right? These laboratories are providing us with concrete evidence that Robin Hood policies don’t help make the poor richer, they make most people poorer. In other words, the blue states have tried the Elizabeth Warren “progressive” agenda and people are voting with their feet by fleeing in droves. The kinds of income redistribution policies that Warren and others endorse can only work by building a Berlin Wall so no one can leave — though I hope I’m not giving them any ideas.”

Comedian Conan O’Brien: “Hillary Clinton is making income inequality a central theme in her campaign. For example, today she pointed out that her husband makes $300 million a year and she has to get by on $200 million a year.”

Iran: We Won’t Allow ‘Foreigners’ to Inspect Our Sites

Posted: 20 Apr 2015 06:25 AM PDT

Iran: We Won't Allow 'Foreigners' to Inspect Our SitesA top Iranian commander on Sunday said that his country will never permit “foreigners” to inspect its military sites. “Not only will we not grant foreigners the permission to inspect our military sites, we will not even give them permission to think about such a subject,” Brigadier General Hossein Salami, the second-in-command of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), was quoted by Press TV as saying. “They will not even be permitted to inspect the most normal military site in their dreams,” he declared. Salami added that a harsh response awaits anyone who talks about such inspections. “Visiting a military base by a foreign inspector would mean the occupation of our land because all our defense secrets are there. Even talking about the subject means national humiliation,” he said, according to Press TV. The comments come amid reports that a final deal between Iran and the P5+1 powers could see Tehran allow international inspectors to visit its military sites. Iran has categorically denied the reports, describing them as mere rumors and as wrong interpretations of the understanding reached in early April in Switzerland. The Islamic Republic has clashed with the West, and particularly the United States, over the interpretation of the framework deal, and took particular exception to an American fact sheet released after the framework deal was reached. Arabic Hackers Infiltrated Israel’s Military Network

Posted: 20 Apr 2015 06:20 AM PDT

Arabic Hackers Infiltrated Israel’s Military NetworkCyber hackers are believed to have infiltrated the computer networks of the Israeli military, security researchers at Blue Coat Systems Inc. reported as quoted in Israel Hayom. According to the firm, the hackers were able to penetrate into associated networks of the IDF through a discreet espionage campaign. Trick emails prepackaged with attack software were sent to accounts registered on the servers. The attack on the Israeli military is just one instance of a wider cyber espionage effort being carried out across the Middle East. Researchers believe the four-month long campaign was most likely launched by Arabic speaking programmers since the default language setting in some of the programming tools was Arabic. Waylon Grange, the security researcher at Blue Coat who discovered the infiltrations, explained that most of the hackers’ software were comprised on pre-existing, widely accessible tools and software, such as remote access to the Poison Ivy Trojan. Netanyahu Invokes Biblical Prophecy to Open World’s Eyes to “Darkness” of Iran

Netanyahu Invokes Biblical Prophecy to Open World’s Eyes to “Darkness” of Iran Commemorating Holocaust Remembrance Day in Israel, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu invoked messages of the Holocaust and biblical prophecy as a warning directed towards the expansionist and violent actions of the Iranian regime. “Seventy years ago, the bells of freedom rang in the free world. The horrific nightmare that had engulfed all humanity in the depths of blood had come to an end in Europe,” the prime minister said in an address at Yad Vashem on Thursday. “Leaders of modern countries realized that it was a propitious time to establish a new world order based on defending liberty, eradicating evil and opposing oppression. They articulated the most important lesson of World War II: democracies must not turn a blind eye to the aspirations of tyrannous regimes to expand,” Netanyahu stated. “A conciliatory attitude toward these regimes only increases their tendency for aggression. And if this aggression is not stopped in time, humanity might find itself in a much bloodier battle.” The prime minister pointed out that “ahead of World War II, the world attempted to appease the Nazis. They wanted quiet at any price, and the terrible price did come.” FULL REPORT

Magnitude-6.8 earthquake off Taiwan sparks house fire and fatalityUPDATE – A strong undersea earthquake that struck between Taiwan and southern Japan on Monday sparked a house fire that resulted in a fatality outside of Taiwan’s capital, authorities said. The quake triggered an advisory for a tsunami of up to 3 feet in Japan that was lifted after just over an hour. It caused buildings in the Taiwanese capital of Taipei to sway, and people there rushed into the streets. A person was killed in a house fire in the Taipei suburb of Xinzhuang that was sparked by the explosion of an electricity transformer box due to the quake, Taiwan’s fire and rescue agency said in a statement, without providing any further details. Taiwan’s official Central News Agency gave the age of the deceased as 84, but offered no other details. One other person was injured in the fire, the government said. Footage from Taiwanese television broadcaster TBS showed signs and lights swinging from the ceiling of a newsroom in Taipei. Fire crews sealed off a multi-level parking lot in central Taipei after the mechanical parking tower failed, damaging 11 cars. The Japan Meteorological Agency said the magnitude-6.8 quake’s epicenter was at a shallow point in seas east of Taiwan and south of Okinawa, near the Yonaguni islands. It said no tsunami was detected. FULL REPORT

California Conditions Becoming Like A Third-World Country

California Conditions Becoming Like A Third-World CountryAs if anyone actually needed another reason to move out of the crazy state of California, now it is being reported that conditions in some areas of the state “are like a third-world country” due to the multi-year megadrought that has hit the state. In one California county alone, more than 1,000 wells have gone dry as the groundwater has disappeared. The state is turning back into a desert, and an increasing number of homes no longer have any water coming out of their taps or showerheads. So if you weren’t scared away by the wildfires, mudslides, high taxes, crime, gang violence, traffic, insane political correctness, the nightmarish business environment or the constant threat of “the big one” reducing your home to a pile of rubble, perhaps the fact that much of the state could soon be facing Dust Bowl conditions may finally convince you to pack up and leave. And if you do decide to go, you won’t be alone. Millions of Californians have fled the state in recent years, and this water crisis could soon spark the greatest migration out of the state that we have ever seen. FULL REPORT

Congo’s ticking time-bomb – one of the most dangerous volcanoes in the world

Posted: 20 Apr 2015 05:51 AM PDT

Congo’s ticking time-bomb – one of the most dangerous volcanoes in the worldCONGO – A time bomb is ticking in eastern Congo. Mount Nyiragongo, an active volcano, could erupt at any moment. The ever-present threat is forcing two uneasy neighbors – DRC and Rwanda – to cooperate with one another. The crater of Mount Nyiragongo contains the largest and most voluminous lava lake in the world, measuring a staggering ten million cubic meters. Celestin Kasereka, who works for the volcanological observatory in Goma, eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, considers Mount Nyiragongo to be one of the most dangerous volcanoes in the world. “Nyiragongo is one of three volcanoes in which the lava lake is still active and it is situated right next to Goma with its one million inhabitants. We have to monitor this volcano,” he said. Keeping a volcano under surveillance is a difficult task. There was a time when the European Union and Switzerland provided funding, but foreign aid for the observatory dried up in 2014. The government of North Kivu province lacks the means to make up for the shortfall and so there are no funds available for data gathering expeditions to the crater, seismographs, access to satellite data, or for public awareness campaigns. The observatory doesn’t even have enough resources to update the public warning signs which show the level of volcanic activity. Their purpose is to tell the population when to prepare for the evacuation of Goma, should an eruption be imminent. Kasereka finds this lack of precautionary measures worrying. “If we can’t monitor the volcano properly, we could be in for a nasty surprise.” FULL REPORT

6.4 magnitude earthquake strikes off the coast of Taiwan

6.4 magnitude earthquake strikes off the coast of TaiwanA shallow 6.4-magnitude earthquake was felt off Taiwan’s eastern coast Monday morning, the U.S. Geological Survey said. No immediate damage or injuries were reported, Taiwan’s China’s News Agency said. The quake was recorded at 9:42 a.m. (9:42 p.m. ET Sunday) about 80 miles south southeast of Keelung, a city of almost 400,000 people. The U.S. Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said there was no threat of a tsunami to Hawaii or U.S. possessions in the Pacific. The quake reportedly shook buildings in the capitol city of Taipei. Taiwan’s national broadcaster, NHK, quoted seismologists as saying several islands in the Okinawa island chain could see waves of 1 meter — lower than the prevailing sea level and therefore posing no threat. The quake was initially reported at magnitude 6.8, but the USGS downgraded it to magnitude 6.6 and then to magnitude 6.4. Extinction Protocol

Egypt Files Suit Against Barack Obama And Hillary Clinton For Conspiring With Muslim Brotherhood

Egypt Files Suit Against Barack Obama And Hillary Clinton For Conspiring With Muslim Brotherhood THE EGYPTIAN COMPLAINT READS THAT “BARACK OBAMA ASSISTED THE MUSLIM BROTHERHOOD IN CRIMES AGAINST EGYPT AND IT’S CITIZENS”

“Let his days be few; and let another take his office.” Psalm 109:8 (KJV)

My favorite expression about Barack Obama is “Everything is calculated.” I read comments and commentaries about how inept he is — that he does not know what he is doing. Ha! Obama knows exactly what he’s doing. Remember when BHO went on the apology tour right after he was elected in 2008? Remember when he told world leaders that America had been involved in too many countries affairs and deserved the name “The world’s policeman?” How in the world do you think that the so-called Arab Spring came about? Obama was a major player in this, and his Puppetmaster, George Soros, supplied the money. The plan was to destabilize the Middles East, and rid the Arabic countries of their secular governments, and replace them with the Muslim Brotherhood. That was the plan. His diabolical plan backfired in Egypt. Not only was his great buddy, Mohamed Morsi, ousted, but he was incarcerated in 2012. He still sits in a jail cell to this day. Egypt also jailed many members of the Muslim Brotherhood, and made it a crime to be part of this terrorist organization. Think about this: Obama has hosted the Muslim Brotherhood in the White House on several occasions. He has not hidden this from the press. FULL REPORT

Huckabee to Christians: Wait to Join The Military After Obama Leaves Office

Posted: 19 Apr 2015 09:16 PM PDT

Huckabee to Christians: Wait to Join The Military After Obama Leaves Office Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee told an Iowa talk radio show host on Saturday that young Christians should wait until President Obama left office before considering military service. He said there is a culture of persecution in the military under Obama, making it a “hostile work environment.” Huckabee was responding to a story in the Washington Times about recent high-profile cases of discrimination against Christians in the military. Michael Berry of the Liberty Institute, a Florida-based public interest law firm representing many of these cases, said Christian parents may discourage their children from serving. Berry’s firm represents a Christian pastor who has ministered to sailors and Marines for almost 20 years, whom the Navy is about to discharge because he counseled sailors on human sexuality that offended a homosexual officer. Huckabee called it “one of the great tragedies of our time”:“This administration has had an open hostility toward the Christian faith. And I know that sounds like a bold statement, Jan, but when you have a president whose administration orders its chaplains to put its Bibles away, not to pray in Jesus’ name, not to counsel people on the issues of sexual morality; when you have this attitude that is more about promoting gay marriage and gay rights in the military than it is about being able to protect religious liberty for those people of faith, it’s going to be hard to find people that are truly devoted people of faith and Christian believers and Orthodox Jews and others. Why would they want to be in a military that would be openly hostile and not just simply bring some scorn to their faith, but would punish them for it?” FULL REPORT

Did Hillary Clinton Use Her Sec’y Of State Office To Sell Favors For Financial Gain?

“You have no reason to remember, but we came out of the White House not only dead broke, but in debt,”

“For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?” Mark 8:36 (KJV)

The book does not hit shelves until May 5, but already the Republican Rand Paul has called its findings “big news” that will “shock people” and make voters “question” the candidacy of Hillary Rodham Clinton.

“Clinton Cash: The Untold Story of How and Why Foreign Governments and Businesses Helped Make Bill and Hillary Rich,” by Peter Schweizer — a 186-page investigation of donations made to the Clinton Foundation by foreign entities — is proving the most anticipated and feared book of a presidential cycle still in its infancy.

The book, a copy of which was obtained by The New York Times, asserts that foreign entities who made payments to the Clinton Foundation and to Mr. Clinton through high speaking fees received favors from Mrs. Clinton’s State Department in return.

“We will see a pattern of financial transactions involving the Clintons that occurred contemporaneous with favorable U.S. policy decisions benefiting those providing the funds,” Mr. Schweizer writes.

His examples include a free-trade agreement in Colombia that benefited a major foundation donor’s natural resource investments in the South American nation, development projects in the aftermath of the Haitian earthquake in 2010, and more than $1 million in payments to Mr. Clinton by a Canadian bank and major shareholder in the Keystone XL oil pipeline around the time the project was being debated in the State Department.

The timing is problematic for Mrs. Clinton as she begins a campaign to position herself as a “champion for everyday Americans.”

From 2001 to 2012, the Clintons’ income was at least $136.5 million, Mr. Schweizer writes, using a figure previously reported in The Post. “During Hillary’s years of public service, the Clintons have conducted or facilitated hundreds of large transactions” with foreign governments and individuals, he writes. “Some of these transactions have put millions in their own pockets.” source

‘The Time Is Coming That Whoever Kills You Will Think That He Is Offering A Service To God’

How do you deal with psychotic religious warriors that believe that they are offering a service to God by killing Christians? Ever since 9/11, we were endlessly told about what a great threat “al-Qaeda” was, but I don’t remember a single time when al-Qaeda ever marched a group of Christians out and beheaded them on camera. ISIS appears to be an entirely different animal than al-Qaeda ever was, and it is about time that we started taking them seriously. But the Obama administration is actually allowing Americans that went overseas to fight for ISIS to come back into the country and resume their normal lives. To me, that is absolutely insane. These are people that believe that they score major points with their god when they kill us. And they especially seem to relish the opportunity to kill Christians. Sadly, this is all part of a rising trend of Christian persecution all over the planet. Christian churches are being burned to the ground in places such as Egypt, India and West Africa, and earlier this month we witnessed a horrific incident during which more than a hundred Christians were mercilessly gunned down in Kenya. It is becoming increasingly dangerous to be a Christian, and it is only going to get worse in the years ahead. (Read More…)

Another Reason To Move Away From California: ‘Conditions Are Like A Third-World Country’

As if anyone actually needed another reason to move out of the crazy state of California, now it is being reported that conditions in some areas of the state “are like a third-world country” due to the multi-year megadrought that has hit the state. Iran’s Nuclear Intentions Are Clear

An Israeli strike would instantly cause things to go from bad to worse. The act of Israeli jets bombing Iranian nuclear facilities may result in American fighters being ordered by the White House to intercede on the side of Iran. Of course, Obama would blow a head gasket—blaming Israel for sabotaging his peace plan.

I’m normally not one to speculate on what God has planned for the near future. The way events have unfolded in such rapid pace, it seems that the Lord is setting things up for a major disaster to occur on Obama’s watch. With a little over a year and a half before Obama leaves office, we’ll soon find out.

Biblical Love: Seeking My Joy in Your Joy

My prayer is that the Spirit of God would so work true, biblical love in the hearts of His people, that I would pursue your good as my good, that you would seek your joy in my joy—that God’s people would seek our happiness in one another’s happiness. Do you know what would happen then? Sacrificial, life-laid-down ministry to one another in the body of Christ would go from merely being our duty, to being our delight.

Basically, I’m helping myself.

RFRA & My Wedding Ring

The way to protect religious liberty is not to bleat for it but to expose the distortions, conjectural ploys, and rabble-rousing used against it. It requires tooth. By contrast, the bishops’ bridge-over-troubled-waters approach signaled to RFRA antagonists that self-serving outbursts really do work. It cooperated with bootlicking politicians in ceding ground that was never in play. Reassurance misapplied is a sentimental concession to demagoguery.

Why gay marriage will fail

by Denny Burk

Peter Leithart has an insightful piece at First Things explaining why gay marriage will ultimately fail. Because it owes to a culture-bound distortion created by heterosexuals (so-called “romantic marriage”), it will ultimately come to the same ruin. His conclusion is spot-on:
Gay marriage may further damage marriage; but heterosexuals damaged marriage nearly beyond recognition all on our own.

Does a God of Vengeance Make Us Vengeful?

by Pastor J.D.

Opponents of Christianity often point out how bloody the Old Testament is. There’s no getting around it: it is. (For that matter, the New Testament isn’t as serene as most people assume.) Israel often participated in and celebrated the victory of God over other nations, victory that usually meant military conquest. As Deborah says, “So may all your enemies perish, Lord! But may all who love you be like the sun when it rises in its strength” (Judges 5:31). Israel savored the stories of God’s deliverance—even God’s vengeance—like a fine wine, sip by sip.

Celebrating God’s vengeance seems out of place to most modern readers. In my experience, stories like this draw out two different objections.

Objection 1: We don’t always see justice served.

Like the end of many action movies today, the violent conclusion to Old Testament stories were meant to illustrate just retribution. The “bad guys” get what’s coming to them, and all the wrongs are righted.

But that’s not the experience of most people. We certainly long for God to right every wrong, but there are simply too many stories out there without happy endings. Not every rapist or murderer is brought to justice. The corrupt seem to frequently get off scot free, while the innocent suffer.

The Rebirth of Martin Luther

by David Huffstutler

In April of 1511, Martin Luther went to Wittenberg, a city of 2,000 to 2,500. Luther received his Doctor of Theology in October of the following year, but for all his accomplishments, certainty of salvation eluded his grasp. He confessed his sins as much as possible, even six hours at a time in the confessional booth. Prayers were no help either. Even Johann von Staupitz, the vicar of his Augustinian order, could not help him with the mystic way: “Since man is weak, let him cease to strive; let him surrender himself to the being and the love of God” (p. 38). Something was still lacking.

Finally in 1513, Staupitz granted to Luther his own chair of Bible in the university, and Luther took up the Psalms in August. He would teach Romans in 1515 and Galatians in 1516. “One may wonder,” it is told, “why Luther had not of this himself,” that is, “to wrestle with the source book of his religion” (p. 42). “The reason is not that the Bible was inaccessible, but that Luther was following a prescribed course and the Bible was not the staple of theological education” (p. 42). Here was the substance of what his biographer calls “the evangelical experience.”

His biographer makes much of Luther’s teaching of Psalms in that “a new picture . . . of Christ” is seen (p. 45). From Ps 22:1 (“My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”), Christ exclaims that He is forsaken, identifying with mankind and thus man’s sin, showing Luther that Christ, while yes the judge, nonetheless “suffers with those whom he must condemn and feels himself with them subject to condemnation” (p. 45). By teaching the Psalms, Luther saw Christ as judge but also his Savior.

As to Romans, the source from which we thank Luther for his cry of “Sola Fide!” in the face of works-salvation, his long-held view of a wrath-ready God who judged the always impure by His perfect righteousness transformed when he saw justice met in Christ who gave His righteousness to him. Romans 1:17 caught Luther’s eye: “For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, The righteous shall live by faith.’” Luther’s words speak of his rebirth:
“I saw the connection between the justice of God and the statement that ‘the just shall live by his faith.’ Then I grasped that the justice of God is that righteousness by which through grace and sheer mercy God justifies us through faith. Thereupon I felt myself to be reborn and to have gone through open doors into paradise. The whole of Scripture took on a new meaning, and whereas before the “justice of God” had filled me with hate, now it became to me inexpressibly sweet in greater love. This passage of Paul became to me a gate to heaven” (p. 48).

The Horrific Costs of Syncretism

by Bill Muehlenberg

In the biblical sense, syncretism has to do with seeking to worship the one true God while also dragging elements of false religions into the mix. It is the vain attempt to worship Yahweh but also worship other gods. It is an attempt to mix true and false religious beliefs and practices.

It cannot work, it does not work, and it only brings about the greatest of evils, and thus punishment from the true and living God. The Bible is full of both warnings against, and examples of, religious syncretism. No one reading all these accounts can ever come away with the idea that God simply winks at syncretism. He judges it utterly harshly – and rightly so.

Seasons of Serving (True Woman 201, part 6)

Early in my marriage, I resented my husband’s opportunities to go “on the road” and minister to others. I felt staying at home meant missing out on the adventure of serving Christ. It took some time for the Holy Spirit to wake me up not only to the responsibility of being a “keeper” in the home, but also the joy of it.

When I realized the high calling of biblical womanhood, all my priorities flip-flopped! I saw my work at home as a God-glorifying, people-serving ministry. Teaching my children became an adventure I relished, and I grew to respect and rejoice in my husband’s position as the provider for our family. Later, in another season of life, I was blessed to serve God in a career while maintaining my homemaking responsibilities. I thank God for teaching me what really mattered.

In this True Woman 201 video, Nancy Leigh DeMoss and Mary Kassian address woman’s distinct responsibility in the home.

Have you ever resented your responsibilities in the home? How might God want to change that?

The Daily Discovery (April 20, 2015)

‘They Are Satan’s Church’: Famed Pastor’s Tough Message for Christian Denominations Condoning Homosexuality – “Famed pastor John MacArthur of Grace Community Church in Sun Valley, California, recently reacted to denominations that have taken more liberal approaches to gay marriage, among other issues, telling TheBlaze that ‘they have no allegiance to the Bible.’”

17 signs that your church is becoming secular – “What does a secular church look like? A good, Bible-based Christian church will always feed its sheep out of God’s Word, and seeks to align itself with what it says. The secular church, on the other hand, follows the ways of the world.”

The Cross and the World – “What is a Christian? Paul tells the Colossians that a Christian is a person who has been translated from the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of God’s dear Son. I no longer belong to the world—I belong to the kingdom of Christ, the kingdom of light, the kingdom of glory, the kingdom of God. Here I am, and the world has nothing to do with me. I am not of it. I am in this other kingdom. Oh, I am still existing in this world, but I no longer belong to it. I have been translated.”

What is Self-Righteousness? – “A thorough study of our Lord’s earthly ministry reveals with certainty the following truth. Our Lord was merciful in every instance to those who were broken, humbled, and spiritually helpless before Him. On the other hand, the proud, the self-righteous, and the self-sufficient He rebuked and shunned, which is thematically summarized for us by James our Lord’s brother in his epistle.”

Behind the Curtain of Research… – “Well, it’s crunch time and I’m half done organizing my 200+ pages of research into outlines for my talks at the upcoming conference. I’ve got 2 done, and I’ve got 2 to go. It’s getting down to the wire, but I’m confident I’ll have something great when it’s all done. This afternoon I’m working on my synthesis of 4 centuries of history into a 45 minute talk. Oh boy!”

New book by Peter Schweizer: Clinton State Department favored foreign donors

WINTERY KNIGHT

Hillary Clinton: secretive, entitled, hypoctritical Hillary Clinton: secretive, entitled, hypoctritical

This is from the radically leftist New York Times, of all places.

They write:

Three Things Our Enemies Cannot Do

The Reformed Reader

Volume four of John Newton’s Works is a nice collection of fifty of his sermons.  This is a great volume to get if you’re looking for solid, brief, and edifying devotional material.  Here’s an excerpt from Newton’s sermon on Romans 8:31.  I’ve edited it slightly and formatted it for this blog:

Whatever men or devils may attempt against us,
there are three things which
– if we are true believers –
they cannot do.

They may be helpful to wean us from the world.
They may add earnestness to our prayers.
They may press us to greater watchfulness
and dependence upon God.
They may afford fair occasions of evidencing our sincerity in the faith,
the goodness of our cause,
and the power of God who is for us.

Such are the benefits that the Lord teaches his people
to derive from their sufferings,
for he will not let them suffer…

What Makes Heaven Rejoice? Part 2 (Luke 15:1-10)

Joe Quatrone, Jr.

Found CoinLuke 15 contains three parables about lost items. In each story, extreme measures are taken to seek the lost; when each is found, there is great rejoicing. These stories are pictures of how God seeks us and the joy heaven experiences when we are found. In Part 1, we examined the first parable Jesus told about a lost sheep and the shepherd who goes out to rescue it. Today, we will look at the second parable.

II. THE LOST COIN: God has Gone to Extreme Measures to Rescue You

In this second parable, it’s not a lamb that has wandered off on its own; it’s a coin that has been accidentally lost. Jewish brides often wore a headdress of ten coins strung across their foreheads. So the coin had great sentimental value because it was part of her wedding vows. That’s why she literally turned her house upside down…

What is Self-Righteousness?

Possessing the Treasure

by Mike Ratliff

17 Because you say, “ I am rich, and have become wealthy, and have need of nothing,” and you do not know that you are wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked, (Revelation 3:17 NASB)

Self-Righteousness: the attempt to meet God’s standards based upon one’s own merits.

A thorough study of our Lord’s earthly ministry reveals with certainty the following truth. Our Lord was merciful in every instance to those who were broken, humbled, and spiritually helpless before Him. On the other hand, the proud, the self-righteous, and the self-sufficient He rebuked and shunned, which is thematically summarized for us by James our Lord’s brother in his epistle.
