Unfaithfulness to the Master (Luke 12:45-48)

Joe Quatrone, Jr.

ignorance-is-no-excusePreviously, we looked at the marks of a good servant. Today, we will consider the mistakes of a bad servant. If Jesus came today, what kind of servant would He find you to be?

THE MISTAKES OF A BAD SERVANT

In the parable, there was another servant who was left in charge to manage some of the Master’s resources, but he makes a terrible miscalculation. In verse 45, the servant says, “My master is taking a long time in coming.” Sometimes Christian servants make the same mistake as well. They act as if Jesus isn’t returning soon.

Some people who claim to be Christians aren’t living lives that are pleasing to the Lord. They act as if this life is all there is. When you tell them Jesus is going to return and they’d better get ready, they just laugh it off. They say, “Live it up! Just have…

GTY Blog: How Do You Raise Christians?

Proverbs 22:6

Code: B150501

by John MacArthur

Is there anything believers can do to guarantee the salvation of their children? No doubt many Christian parents have asked that very question, naturally hoping to see their offspring grow to know and love the Lord, and spared the horrors of hell.

But the truth is that as much as we might like to pass on the spiritual inheritance of our faith, that’s not the means the Lord has chosen to bring people to truth faith and repentance.

The spiritual outcome of your child, taken by itself, is no reliable gauge of your success as a parent. Nor is it an accurate measure of your faith—salvation is non-transferable, regardless of the depth and breadth of your love for the Lord. Sometimes children raised in fine Christian families grow up to abandon the faith. On the other hand, God graciously redeems many children whose parents are utter failures.

What About Proverbs 22:6?

Invariably parents ask about Proverbs 22:6: “Train up a child in the way he should go, even when he is old he will not depart from it.” Isn’t that a biblical promise that if we raise our children right, we can guarantee that they will walk faithfully with the Lord?

That notion is based on a misunderstanding of the nature of the Proverbs. These are wise sayings and truisms—not necessarily inviolable rules. For example, two verses earlier, we read, “The reward of humility and the fear of the Lord are riches, honor and life” (v. 4). That is certainly not a blanket promise that everyone who is humble and fears the Lord will always be rich and receive honor. Too many other verses also teach us that the righteous are inevitably persecuted (2 Timothy 3:12) and often poor (James 2:5).

Furthermore, Proverbs 10:27 says, “The fear of the Lord prolongs life, but the years of the wicked will be shortened.” We know that this principle does not hold true in every case. It cannot be claimed as if it were a binding promise from God to all who fear the Lord.

Likewise, Proverbs 22:6 is a principle that is generally true. The same principle would be true if applied to soldiers, carpenters, teachers, or any other form of training. How a person is trained determines what he becomes. In Jesus’ words, “Everyone, after he has been fully trained, will be like his teacher” (Luke 6:40). The same principle applies to children, who are also, normally, products of their training. This is an axiomatic or self-evident truism.

But Proverbs 22:6 is not a promise for Christian parents to claim that will guarantee their children will never depart from the way of truth. The great Puritan commentator Matthew Henry made these remarks about the truism of Proverbs 22:6,

When they grow up, when they grow old, it is to be hoped, they will not depart from it. Good impressions made upon them then will abide upon them all their days. Ordinarily the vessel retains the savour with which it was first seasoned. Many indeed have departed from the good way in which they were trained up; Solomon himself did so. But early training may be a means of their recovering themselves, as it is supposed Solomon did. At least the parents will have the comfort of having done their duty and used the means.

No Guarantees

As a general rule, parents who follow biblical principles in bringing up their children will see a positive effect on the character of their children. From a purely statistical point of view, children who grow up in Christ-honoring homes are more likely to remain faithful to Christ in adulthood than kids growing up in homes where the parents dishonor the Lord. The truism of Proverbs 22:6 does apply. We’re certainly not to think that God’s sovereignty in salvation means the way we raise our kids is inconsequential. God often uses faithful parents as instruments in the salvation of children.

Ultimately, however, your children’s salvation is a matter to be settled between them and God. Nothing you can do will guarantee your kids’ salvation. To that end you should be praying to God and instructing your children—using all available means to impress the truths of the gospel continually on their hearts. But ultimately a grown child’s spiritual fitness alone is not necessarily a reliable gauge of the parents’ success.

The simple fact is that your best efforts cannot guarantee salvation for your children, but your bad example could be a great hindrance to the work of the gospel in their hearts. While you might not be able to singlehandedly win them to the Lord, your influence runs deep and helps set the course for their lives.

Next time we’ll consider the spiritual value of a strong, parental influence, and the dangers that arise when one is lacking in the home.

The goal of our instruction is love from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith

Possessing the Treasure

by Mike Ratliff

2 To Timothy, my true child in the faith: Grace, mercy and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.
3 As I urged you upon my departure for Macedonia, remain on at Ephesus so that you may instruct certain men not to teach strange doctrines, 4 nor to pay attention to myths and endless genealogies, which give rise to mere speculation rather than furthering the administration of God which is by faith. 5 But the goal of our instruction is love from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith. 6 For some men, straying from these things, have turned aside to fruitless discussion, 7 wanting to be teachers of the Law, even though they do not understand either what they are saying or the matters about which they make confident assertions.
8 But we know that the Law is good…

THE FOUNDATION

“I consider the government of the United States as interdicted by the Constitution from intermeddling with religious institutions, their doctrines, discipline, or exercises. This results not only from the provision that no law shall be made respecting the establishment or free exercise of religion, but from that also which reserves to the States the powers not delegated to the United States.” —Thomas Jefferson, letter to Samuel Miller, 1808

Lynch Officially Takes Up Holder’s Torch

On Monday, new Attorney General Loretta Lynch was sworn in, formally taking over for the contemptuous Eric Holder. And to say she entered the position amid chaos is an understatement. Gangs throughout Baltimore continued to wreak violence and havoc, injuring police officers and destroying property in protest over the death of Freddie Gray, the circumstances of which are still unknown. In response, one of Lynch’s first acts on the job was to send in the troops. “The Department of Justice will send two officials to Baltimore amid clashes in the city between police and citizens,” The Hill reports. We wish we could say she will be an improvement over her predecessor, but all evidence suggests she will continue the Holder legacy. Joe Biden illuminated this concern at Monday’s swearing-in ceremony when he said, “[Lynch] is a woman who is incredibly qualified, just like Eric Holder, who I’ve known and has been my close friend for years and years and years, over 30 years.” He added, “He might be one of the finest attorney generals [sic] we have had. He has been in this environment of such political hostility. He has stood his ground on principle. He has never yielded. And he has been right.” If he was one of the finest attorneys general in American history, why are sights like Ferguson and Baltimore seemingly becoming the norm? Lynch has a lot of work to do — but at least she’d be hard pressed to make things worse.

Arguments Begin in Contentious Same-Sex Marriage Case

Today is a big day for the Supreme Court as the debate over same-sex “marriage” takes center stage. Two and half hours of oral arguments will be presented to the justices, whose decision on America’s biggest social controversy since Roe v. Wade will have monumental implications. And just like Roe v. Wade, as Family Research Council’s Tony Perkins points out, the government meddling in what should be an issue left to the states isn’t going to end the debate. Forty-two years after that dreadful ruling, America has come no closer to unanimously accepting abortion, and the same fate awaits the gay marriage dispute. Speaking on CBS’s “Face the Nation” on Sunday, Perkins explained, “The courts are decided to interpret the Constitution and the constitutionality of laws, not create public policy.” And as Jennifer Marshall of The Daily Signal reports, some 50 million Americans have voted in support of traditional marriage — only to have the courts silence the majority of them. “Only 11 states have redefined marriage democratically,” writes Marshall. “In the 37 states that currently recognize same-sex marriage, 26 have been forced to do so by courts.” Today, Kentucky, Michigan, Tennessee and Ohio will defend their bans on same-sex marriage against 16 plaintiffs, and a decision will be announced before the Court adjourns in June. The Tenth Amendment states, “The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.” The right ruling rests in those 28 words. Russian Hackers Read Obama’s Emails

Regarding the security breach of the White House’s computer network, it might be easier to ask what the hackers didn’t gain access to. In the early part of April, news broke that a group of hackers — probably with some link to the Russian government — compromised the White House email system and accessed Barack Obama’s full schedule. But the White House has remained mum on how deeply the hackers penetrated. According to The New York Times, the hackers were reading some of Obama’s unclassified email messages, the ones where he drafted upcoming speeches, worked out upcoming policy, complained about Congress, talked about staffing changes and, yes, even described his golf game. The Times says Obama’s account itself was not compromised, nor was the classified email system the White House uses. As Noah Rothman writes at Hot Air, “This administration has a problem with information security, and it’s becoming clear that their carelessness is a threat to American national security.” When Obama declared his administration was the most transparent in history, none of us thought he was talking about the Russians. FEATURED RIGHT ANALYSIS

Baltimore Mishandled Seeds of Unrest

By Lewis Morris

2015-04-28-a5661aa7_large.jpg

The city of Baltimore is reeling after a savage night of rioting downtown that led to the burning of stores, looting and violent confrontations with police officers. The violence erupted in the hours leading up to and following Monday’s funeral of Freddie Gray, who died several days after suffering a spinal cord injury while in police custody. Facts are still hazy about Gray’s arrest and injury and just how an initially peaceful demonstration devolved so quickly into full-scale rioting.

Republican Gov. Larry Hogan declared a state of emergency late yesterday and called out the National Guard to assist overwhelmed city law enforcement. “The National Guard represents the last resort in restoring order,” Hogan told reporters. “I have not made this decision lightly.”

Up to 5,000 soldiers could eventually be deployed. There are already at least 100 Maryland State Police officers already in the city, as well as municipal police from surrounding towns and counties. Close to two-dozen Baltimore police officers have sustained injuries in close-quarter confrontations with rioters who assaulted them with rocks, bottles and other objects.

Schools are closed today in Baltimore, and last night’s Orioles game was postponed, with baseball commissioner Rob Manfred suggesting the matchup between the Orioles and Chicago White Sox could be played elsewhere.

Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake ordered a week-long 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. curfew, calling out the rioters as “thugs who only want to incite violence and destroy our city.”

This is a much more decisive Rawlings-Blake than just two days ago, when she said during a press conference in the early hours of unrest over the weekend that “we also gave those who wished to destroy space to do that as well. And we worked very hard to keep that balance and to put ourselves in the best position to de-escalate.”

Rawlings-Blake’s words were quickly clarified by her office in a follow-up statement that said, in part, “There was an effort to give the peaceful demonstrators room to conduct their peaceful protests on Saturday. Unfortunately … that also meant that those seeking to incite violence also had the space to operate.”

In some cases, it is prudent for law enforcement to back off to prevent further confrontation, and it seems the Baltimore Police Department did so at least a few times yesterday. But to come right out and say it, telling rioters and looters what the police will do? That’s absurd!

Whatever Rawlings-Blake meant to say, the opportunity to de-escalate the situation has clearly passed. The scope of the rioting and looting quickly overwhelmed the police, and it is not clear at this point just what their strategy was in the early hours of the mayhem. Sporadic acts of violence over the weekend spread into full-scale chaos Monday afternoon after a number of youths, fresh out of school, joined those already engaged in unlawful activity.

According to a notice by the Baltimore Police Department, there is a credible threat that the Black Guerilla Family, Bloods, Crips and other gangs entered into an agreement to attack police and coordinate looting. Furthermore, some of Baltimore’s outlaw elements may want to take the violence outside the city, targeting white police officers. The West Virginia Intelligence Fusion Center released a memo warning police officers that they might be the target of gang violence. Remember: The man who killed New York City Police Officers Wenjian Liu and Rafael Ramos earlier this year was associated with the Black Guerilla Family gang in Baltimore.

Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD) suggested that the violence was actually perpetrated by out-of-towners. “[A]t the end there were a few people who said, ‘We’re gonna turn this city down [sic], we’re gonna close it down,’ and the next thing you know we had a few people mainly from out of town … start beating up on police cars and throwing all kinds of projectiles.” It may just be that Cummings doesn’t want to admit the fact that Baltimore has a criminal element capable of fomenting such chaos.

Rev. Al Sharpton, never one to miss a race-baiting opportunity, pledged to visit Baltimore to reach out to local church leaders who have been gathering with community leaders to find ways to stop the violence. Unfortunately, if history is any guide, Sharpton’s appearance might distract from that opportunity as he grandstands for the camera and solicits donations for his National Action Network.

And what about the man whose death sparked the rioting? The Baltimore Sun has attempted to piece together a timeline of the arrest of 25-year-old Freddie Gray, looking to discover how he sustained the injuries that led to his death. Like Trayvon Martin and Michael Brown, Gray has been made out to be a martyr at the altar of police brutality, but he was no angel. Gray’s rap sheet includes at least 18 arrests for various offenses. Baltimore police have not shed any light on why Gray was arrested earlier this month, stating only that he was carrying a knife, which was actually discovered after he was arrested.

It can be said that Gray was not a model citizen; however, the Baltimore Police Department is not a model law enforcement agency. The local police department has some problems of its own. A lengthy investigation in 2014 by the Baltimore Sun uncovered numerous incidents of police brutality and resultant civil suits that cost the city $5.7 million over three years.

Unlike Baltimore and Ferguson, Missouri, New York City actually handled the outcry after the death of Eric Garner in Staten Island.

As with civil unrest in Ferguson, Oakland, CA, and other cities around the country, a terrible pattern is playing out in Baltimore, and it looks something like this: In an effort to reclaim the city from criminals and gangs, police have on occasion gone beyond their mandate and sometimes been guilty of the very crimes they attempt to stop. The community, which should welcome and feel protected by the police, instead fear and loathe them because of injustices, either real or perceived. The situation can fester for years until an incident, oftentimes the shooting or death of someone in police custody, pops the top off a pressure cooker.

Not all those arrested are victims, and not all cops are criminals. Far from it. Yet, the media, ever in pursuit of a story, will report any angle that feeds the story. Sometimes facts are optional. Race hustlers like Al Sharpton and naïve liberals like Stephanie Rawlings-Blake don’t help the situation. Cooler heads must prevail and examine the root causes of these issues; otherwise Baltimore will be just another name on a sad and growing list of cities tearing themselves apart.

OPINION IN BRIEF

David Limbaugh: “Forget for a moment the ever-failing economy, the implosion of our foreign policy coherence, and our virtually unilateral withdrawal in the war on terror under Barack Obama’s presidency. If liberty lovers don’t start fighting back soon, we’ll forfeit our freedom of thought and religious expression under the assault of fascist leftist activists in our culture. … The real fight on [social] issues in this nation is no longer about the underlying ‘rights’ involved. It concerns the appalling mission of activists to marshal the coercive power of government and of commercial blackmail to compel other people to agree (and publicly say they agree) with their opinions on issues they deem important. Isn’t it ironic that the people who are pushing for these rights always wave banners of tolerance, love, compassion and liberty? More than ironic, it’s outrageous. And fewer and fewer people of principle are standing up to this tyrannical bullying because, understandably, they don’t want to put themselves in the crosshairs of this gestapo. But history tells us the logical conclusion of this story. Some socially liberal Republicans naively believe that this is only about the social issues themselves, but it’s about liberty. God help us.”

SHORT CUTS

Insight: “[T]he Government is merely a servant — merely a temporary servant; it cannot be its prerogative to determine what is right and what is wrong, and decide who is a patriot and who isn’t. Its function is to obey orders, not originate them.” —Mark Twain (1835-1910)

Non Compos Mentis: “We … have to be very careful about the language we use to talk about [the situation in Baltimore]. I’m not calling these people rioters. I’m calling these uprisings and I think it’s an important distinction to make. This is not a riot. … [R]esistance looks different ways to different people and part of what it means to say black lives matter, is to assert our right to have rage — righteous rage, righteous indignation in the face of state violence and extrajudicial killing. … The city is burning because the police killed Freddie Gray and that’s a distinction we have to make.” —Morehouse College professor Marc Lamont Hill (How can anyone argue that turning a city into a war zone isn’t rioting? Moreover, there’s this thing called “due process.” And until the courts rule otherwise, the police are innocent.)

Dezinformatsia: “I don’t remember seeing anything like this in the United States of America in a long time.” —CNN’s Wolf Blitzer on the Baltimore riots (Was Ferguson really that long ago?)

The annals of the absurd: “Looting [is] a real shame. But FAR MORE shameful is [the] pattern of police violence against [the] black community! Perspective, people.” —CNN contributor and Daily Beast columnist Sally Kohn

The BIG Lie: “[Loretta Lynch] is a woman who is incredibly qualified, just like Eric Holder, who I’ve known and has been my close friend for years and years and years, over 30 years. He might be one of the finest attorney generals we have had. He has been in this environment of such political hostility. He has stood his ground on principle. He has never yielded. And he has been right.” —Joe Biden

Late-night humor: “New York Mayor Bill de Blasio has been positioning himself to challenge Hillary Clinton for the Democratic nomination. Hillary once developed a program to deliver rural healthcare, while de Blasio once dropped a groundhog on its head.” —Jimmy Fallon

Are The Baltimore Riots Being Manipulated?

Baltimore Rioting - YouTube ScreenshotIs it possible that there are people out there that are attempting to inflame the Baltimore riots for their own twisted purposes?  I don’t know if you have noticed, but there has seemed to be lots of unprotected police vehicles parked very close to where all of the protests have been happening.  The police had to know that those vehicles would be prime targets if violence erupted.  So where were the police while those vehicles were being smashed and set on fire?  And why did the mayor of Baltimore say that authorities purposely “gave those who wished to destroy space to do that”?  Yes, Freddie Gray really died.  And yes, the police really did brutalize him resulting in his death, and the outpouring of anger that we are witnessing regarding this episode of police brutality is very real.  But as Rahm Emanuel used to say, “you never want a serious crisis to go to waste”.  In recent days we have seen a whole host of politicians, “civil rights leaders”, and opportunists flock to Baltimore like bears to a honeypot.  We have also seen events unfold in a way that seems almost perfectly staged for television.  Yes, the anger of the rioters in Baltimore is very real, but is that anger being manipulated and used for other purposes? (Read More…)

UN Official Admits That Climate Change Used As A Ruse To Control The World’s Economy

Finally, a UN official comes out with the truth about so-called “Climate Change.” Many of us have known for years that this global warming mantra is a means to an end for the progressives, and now it’s in print.

“Climate Change is an excuse to end the economic development model of the industrial revolution.”

I cannot overemphasize the importance of this link. If you want to understand why the press for “Climate Change” regulations is so strong–despite the fact an increasing number of reports are coming out demonstrating the total falsity and manipulation of the evidence for global warming, let alone a causal link to man—here is your answer.

united-nations-climate-change-global-warming-hoax-un

The Top UN Climate Change Official is optimistic that a new international treaty will be adopted at Paris Climate Change conference at the end of the year. However the official, Christiana Figueres, the Executive Secretary of UNFCCC, warns that the fight against climate change is a process and that the necessary transformation of the world economy will not be decided at one conference or in one agreement.

Leftist/Socialist/Communist/Progressive tyrants see the lie of Climate Change as their way to transform the world economy into their own corrupt image. As with all such plans, it would ensure a small upper-crust of well-paid hacks, attending fancy meetings, and luxuriating at our expense, while the vast majority of the world suffers in increasing squalor and lack, with no hope of rising above it. If you think it’s bad now (and in many places it’s incredibly sad) just wait till this nonsense prevails, and the wealth of the world shrinks into oblivion.

“This is probably the most difficult task we have ever given ourselves, which is to intentionally transform the economic development model, for the first time in human history“, Ms Figueres stated at a press conference in Brussels:

“This is the first time in the history of mankind that we are setting ourselves the task of intentionally, within a defined period of time to change the economic development model that has been reigning for at least 150 years, since the industrial revolution. That will not happen overnight and it will not happen at a single conference on climate change, be it COP 15, 21, 40 – you choose the number. It just does not occur like that. It is a process, because of the depth of the transformation.”

Climate Change is a Gruberistic manufactured lie, designed toward a diabolical end. Many well-meaning people have been sucked into the propaganda vortex, and sincerely believe the world is in danger if we don’t address this “crisis.” Don’t buy it. True science demonstrates the world is NOT warming as the models have predicted, and man’s activities are NOT contributing to some future crisis as the seas rise and ice caps melt, etc., etc., etc.

Yes, we need to take better care of the planet, but CO2 (as one example) is not a problem–in fact, it helps the world be more lush and fruitful. Please… please… if you’re concerned about Climate Change, you need to do more research. Don’t be a useful idiot.

P.S. Please note this link is not to some wild-eye “conspiracy” site… but to the United Nations itself. They are so convinced of their rightness and their power now that they’re not even hiding anymore. [1] – source

“Their inquiry’s central aim will be to establish a comprehensive view of just how far the original data has been “adjusted” by the three main surface records: those published by the Goddard Institute for Space Studies (Giss), the US National Climate Data Center and Hadcrut, that compiled by the East Anglia Climatic Research Unit (Cru), in conjunction with the UK Met Office’s Hadley Centre for Climate Prediction. All of them are run by committed believers in man-made global warming.” [2] – source

OVER 30,000 SCIENTISTS SIGN PETITION CLAIMING GLOBAL WARMING IS A HOAX:

Purpose of Petition: The purpose of the Petition Project is to demonstrate that the claim of “settled science” and an overwhelming “consensus” in favor of the hypothesis of human-caused global warming and consequent climatological damage is wrong. No such consensus or settled science exists. As indicated by the petition text and signatory list, a very large number of American scientists reject this hypothesis.

Publicists at the United Nations, Mr. Al Gore, and their supporters frequently claim that only a few “skeptics” remain – skeptics who are still unconvinced about the existence of a catastrophic human-caused global warming emergency.

It is evident that 31,487 Americans with university degrees in science – including 9,029 PhDs, are not “a few.” Moreover, from the clear and strong petition statement that they have signed, it is evident that these 31,487 American scientists are not “skeptics.”

These scientists are instead convinced that the human-caused global warming hypothesis is without scientific validity and that government action on the basis of this hypothesis would unnecessarily and counterproductively damage both human prosperity and the natural environment of the Earth.

Signer by name and by name and by state and their qualifications are on the website.  [3] – source

The Petition Project features over 31,000 scientists signing the petition stating “there is no convincing scientific evidence that human release of carbon dioxide will, in the forseeable future, cause catastrophic heating of the Earth’s atmosphere“. (OISM)

There are several claims that large numbers of scientists do not agree with the theory ofclimate change, the best known of which is a petition organised by the Oregon Institute of Science and Medicine (the OISM petition). This petition now appears to be signed by over 32,000 people with a BSc or higher qualification. The signatories agree with these statements:

  • The proposed limits on greenhouse gases would harm the environment, hinder the advance of science and technology, and damage the health and welfare of mankind.
  • There is no convincing scientific evidence that human release of carbon dioxide, methane, or other greenhouse gasses is causing or will, in the foreseeable future, cause catastrophic heating of the Earth’s atmosphere and disruption of the Earth’sclimate.

No evidence has ever been offered to support the first statement, and the second statement is in flat contradiction with the scientists who study climate change. There are also valid issues regarding the methodology:

  • The organisers have never revealed how many people they canvassed (so the response rate is unknown) nor have they revealed the sampling methodology, an ironic omission considering how much fuss is made about scientists being candid and making public their methods and data.
  • The petition is, in terms of climate change science, rather out of date.

In the professional field of climate science, the consensus is unequivocal: human activities are causing climate change and additional anthropogenic CO2 may cause great disruption to the climate. [4] – source

Christian Bakery Owners Fined $135,000 For Refusing To Make A Lesbian Wedding Cake

An Oregon judge has awarded Lesbian couple Rachel and Laurel Bowman-Cryer $135,000 for “emotional damages” in a lawsuit against Aaron and Melissa Klein of Sweet Cakes Bakery. They are a Christian couple who declined to provide a wedding cake to the same-sex couple in 2013.

“but this is your hour, and the power of darkness.” Luke 22:53 (KJV)

EDITOR’S NOTE: Under the administration of Barack Obama, the persecution of Christians in America who stand for Biblical truths is rapidly spiraling out of control. This latest case is so egregious that it is startling to me that tens of thousands of patriots are not marching on Washington in protest. And because they are not, Christian persecution will only get worse as the darkness spreads. in 2015, if you are not a supporter of the LGBT, you will pay the price.

In their lawsuit, the two women claimed they felt “mentally raped,” as part of a list of 88 symptoms of emotional distress they experienced at being refused a cake.

The long list of symptoms included “acute loss of confidence,” “doubt,” “excessive sleep,” “felt mentally raped, dirty and shameful,” “high blood pressure,” “impaired digestion,” “loss of appetite,” “migraine headaches,” “pale and sick at home after work,” “resumption of smoking habit,” “shock,” “stunned,” “surprise,” “uncertainty,” “weight gain” and “worry.” The judge apparently found it unremarkable that “loss of appetite” and “impaired digestion” should lead to “weight gain.”

sweet-cakes-bakery-bankrupt-for-refusing-to-make-lesbian-wedding-cake

“The forum concludes that $75,000 and $60,000, are appropriate awards to compensate for the emotional suffering they experienced,” wrote Alan McCullough, administrative law judge for Oregon’s Bureau of Labor and Industries, in his proposed order.

The award will reportedly bankrupt the seven-member Klein family and force Sweet Cakes by Melissa Bakery to shut down. The Kleins’ lawyer, Anna Harmon, said that the damages awarded were not limited to the sale of business assets, but would be taken out of theirpersonal funds.

“The important thing to realize is this,” Harmon said, “This is real money that Aaron and Melissa are going to have to pay that otherwise would be used to pay their mortgage and feed their kids.”

In January of 2013, Laurel Bowman said the bakery would not sell her and her fiancée, Rachel Cryer, a wedding cake. She added that Aaron Klein, co-owner of Sweet Cakes by Melissa, told her that providing them with a wedding cake would be against their religious principles.

This past February, the Oregon Bureau of Labor and Industries (BOLI) announced that the owners of Sweet Cakes by Melissa bakery must pay the lesbian couple damages for refusing to sell them a wedding cake. BOLI spokesman Charlie Burr said there was sufficient evidence that the bakers discriminated against the same-sex couple. source

Outrage As Baltimore Mayor Admits Race Rioting Looters Had Her Permission “To Destroy”

Has the entire country gone absolutely crazy?

Obama and his minions will not rest until there is full-fledged civil war in every city and town and America. Just mere weeks after the end of the George Soros-funded race riots in Saint Louis, we now have the race riots in Baltimore. And this time, the liberal mayor of Baltimore is on tape as admitting she a). told the police to stand down, and b). allowed the race rioters all the “space they needed to destroy” anything they cared to.

Even to the casual observer, at this point it should be obvious that these race riots are preplanned and highly-funded by the Obama war machine, and will continue to popup in every major American city.

This is the “change” this country twice-voted to have in place of a democratic Republic. How’s that working out for you, America? Ashamed of your president yet?

You should be.

As Baltimore Burns, Maryland Residents Anger Rises At City Being Hijacked By Race Baiters

Tonight I am very angry. I’m not sure if this is a righteous anger. If it is not, I will certainly go before the Lord and ask His forgiveness. Why am I angry, you ask? I will tell you…..

EDITOR’S NOTE: These race wars that are now popping up in cities across America have nothing to do with police brutality. No, what we are seeing are the seeds of a new Civil War, planted by Obama’s masters and funded by George Soros. Obama and his minions need Americans to be angry with each other, angry enough to burn, loot, destroy and even kill. This is the “change” Obama promised to give you morons way back in 2008. He is keeping that promise. How do you like it so far?

I went with my husband early today to Johns Hopkins Medical Center in Baltimore, to see an ENT who specializes in Oncology. He scoped my husband’s neck and showed us on a screen a mass, which the doctor said looked like cancer. He said it could be stage 4, because my husband’s lymph nodes are extremely enlarged. The doctor scheduled the biopsy for tomorrow.

I’m angry because we probably will not be able to go to Hopkins tomorrow because of the rioting and violence. It is imperative that my my husband have surgery ASAP and he cannot until the biopsy is done.

baltimore-set-on-fire-race-riots-april-2015

Tonight I watched criminals looting stores and burning police cars. I watched on TV as a beautiful home for seniors which was in the process of being constructed, burn to the ground.

I am angry because I watched criminals throwing bricks and other objects at police officers.

I am angry because the mayor of Baltimore, in the midst of the rioting, said that there would be a curfew TOMORROW night at 10:00. Why not tonight?? Why wait until tomorrow night?

RT reporter beaten and robbed by black mob in Baltimore:

I am angry because Al Sharpton is on his way into town. How is he any different than lawyers who chase ambulances to the scene of horrific accidents? He’s worse. He makes his living, pouring fuel on the fire, as he stokes the flames of perceived racism.

I am angry because the people who looted the CVS did not care one bit about the black man who died. I guarantee that if any of those criminals, with arms filled with stolen goods, would be asked the name of the deceased black man — they would not have had a clue.

I am angry because the race card is played whenever a black man is killed during pursuit by police officers. Baltimore has a black mayor, it is run by mostly black individuals on the City Council, and yet they yell “Racism Racism” GIVE ME A BREAK!!!!

I am angry because I watched a reporter interviewing a man who said he was from the Baltimore City Council. He talked to the reporter about the riots, and said that the anger and rioting went much further that the death of Freddy Gray. He said that black are angry at the poverty and lack of jobs. As soon as the reporter attempted to talk about the looters, the Councilman turned his back and had nothing more to say.

I’m angry because Freddy Gray had a LONG rap sheet:

March 20, 2015: Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance

March 13, 2015: Malicious destruction of property, second-degree assault

January 20, 2015: Fourth-degree burglary, trespassing

January 14, 2015: Possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute

December 31, 2014: Possession of narcotics with intent to distribute

August 31, 2014: Illegal gambling, trespassing

January 25, 2014: Possession of marijuana

September 28, 2013: Distribution of narcotics, unlawful possession of a controlled dangerous substance, second-degree assault, second-degree escape

April 13, 2012: Possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute, unlawful possession of a controlled dangerous substance, violation of probation

July 16, 2008: Possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession with intent to distribute

March 28, 2008: Unlawful possession of a controlled dangerous substance

March 14, 2008: Possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to manufacture and distribute

February 11, 2008: Unlawful possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of a controlled dangerous substance

August 29, 2007: Possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute, violation of probation

August 28, 2007: Possession of marijuana

August 23, 2007: False statement to a peace officer, unlawful possession of a controlled dangerous substance

July 16, 2007: Possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute, unlawful possession of a controlled dangerous substance (2 counts)

Maybe the Jewish students on campuses of universities across the nation should riot because of the anti Semitism which is so widespread, mostly because of the Muslim student body.

Or maybe my people should go to Germany and start riots there for the 6 million Jews who were slaughtered there over 70 years ago. Of course, I’m being facetious. The Jewish people do not handle themselves in such a manner.

So, I am one angry lady, because I cannot go into Baltimore with my husband, whom I love, to get a biopsy which the doctor said is critically important, because we might get caught in the cross fire of these insane riots.

God help us. God help Baltimore. God help the USA.

JESUS PLEASE COME AND GET YOUR BRIDE!!!!

Baltimore Race Riots Are Intentional Distraction From Supreme Court Same-Sex Marriage Hearings

The Supreme Court struggled Tuesday with whether they should force states to recognize same-sex marriages, with justices whose views could determine the outcome of that challenge suggesting they were reluctant to upend such a long-established institution.

Do you think that even for a moment, in your wildest dreams, that the current race riots in Baltimore “just happened” out of the blue? Do you want to know why they are happening right now? Because today, the US Supreme Court begins hearings on deciding if same-sex marriage will become legal in all 50 states. You didn’t know that, did you? Of course not. The media is trumpeting nothing but race riots and burning buildings, with the sole purpose of keeping your attention away from the real issue being decided right now in Washington.

Washington, DC – “The word that keeps coming back to me is ‘millennia,’” Justice Anthony Kennedy, who often casts the deciding vote in an ideologically divided court, said in the first moments of oral arguments in a landmark challenge to state laws prohibiting same-sex marriages. “This definition has been with us for millennia. It’s very difficult for the court to say, oh well, we know better.”

The justices’ eventual ruling on the case — actually six cases consolidated from Ohio, Michigan, Tennessee and Kentucky — will determine whether same-sex marriage becomes legal nationwide, or whether states retain the authority to ban it. A decision is expected by late June.

Obama’s Apocalyptic Betrayals Are Producing a ‘Dangerous’ World

President Obama’s far-reaching efforts to facilitate Iran’s march to nukes amount to nothing less than apocalyptic betrayals of U.S. voters and allies – betrayals that will make the world exponentially more dangerous.

Obama has ignored the countless reasons to doubt that the ayatollahs will make and keep a nuclear accord that prevents them from acquiring nuclear weapons. Here are just some of those reasons:

‘Instead of laughing and mocking, president should be weeping’

Obama took her to task in a half-joking, mocking tone.

“Michele Bachmann actually predicted I would bring about the biblical end of days,” Obama told the correspondents, who erupted in roaring laughter. “Now that’s a legacy. That’s big. I mean Lincoln, Washington, they didn’t do that.”

Bachmann had made her comments about Obama in a recent interview with Jan Markell of Olive Tree Ministries on her show, “Understanding the Times.”

It’s the End of the World, Now What?

What is increasingly perplexing to me, considering all that is transpiring around the world, is the outright rejection and denial by those who claim to be Christian. Now, I expect this from mainstream media, government, and pop culture, but how a denomination (take your pick), rejects 30% of their Bible, only to focus on everything BUT Christ’s soon return, baffles my mind. Consider these events that are rapidly advancing in our day:

However in a day where anti-Biblical behavior is celebrated, where Bruce Jenner is called a Hero (not for winning the decathlon, but for identifying as a woman), it is only a matter of time before politicians began to boldly speak against the Bible.

Hillary Clinton is testing the waters. It is one thing to take anti-biblical positions, but to publicly call Americans to forsake the Bible is too much. Giving an address at the Women in the World Summit last week, she made this statement:

The McAvany Intel Memo

What has gone wrong in America? America is plunging toward a socialist police state (à la the old Soviet Union or Nazi Germany), and the American people remain silent. The powers-that-be in Washington, the Fed, and Wall Street blatantly and openly manipulate all financial markets, and the American people remain silent. The US is in the most serious recession since the 1930s, with the government openly lying about and falsifying all economic statistics, and the American people remain silent.… The machinery for a total police/surveillance state in America, replete with total monitoring of all communications, the military arming of local police, martial law preparations, and military exercises across America are all being openly implemented, and the American people remain silent.

Official reports of long-time US government/CIA horrendous torturing of US citizens and foreigners held without trial or legal counsel at various secret locations around the world have recently come out (and are understood worldwide), and the American people remain silent…. American intelligence agencies (think CIA) – start, fund, arm, and train the incredibly evil ISIS terrorists, not to mention al Qaeda-and then recently conduct a phony bombing war against them, and the American people remain silent. America overthrows moderate/secular Muslim governments across the Middle East in the Obama-orchestrated “Arab Spring,” and intentionally installs radical fundamentalist Muslim governments in Libya, Egypt, Yemen, Tunisia, and is currently working overtime to do the same in Syria, and the American people remain silent. Iran opens fire at and detains US cargo ship in Gulf

Posted: 28 Apr 2015 08:08 AM PDT

BREAKING NEWS – Saudi owned Al Arabiya television said an Iranian “force” seized a US cargo ship in the Gulf on Tuesday and directed it to the Iranian port of Bandar Abbas. The channel said the force had “opened fire” on the US ship, which had 34 US sailors aboard. It gave no further details. The US Fifth Fleet in the Gulf Arab kingdom of Bahrain had no immediate comment on the report. The incident comes amid tensions between the US and Iran over the presence of Iranian ships in the Persian gulf that the US feared were bringing arms to Iranian-backed Houthi Shi’ite rebels in Yemen.

However tensions seemed to have been deflated over the weekend when the Iranians turned their ships around. On Friday, US Defense Secretary Ash Carter told a small group of journalists traveling with him after a trip to California: “The (Iranian) ships have turned around … Obviously what their onward plans are, we don’t know. “It is a welcome event because it does contribute to de-escalation and that’s what we’re trying to suggest to all the parties there, is the best course, and those parties include the Iranians,” Carter said. Army Colonel Steve Warren, a Pentagon spokesman, said earlier the flotilla was in international waters about midway along the coast of Oman on Friday and still headed northeast. Facebook secretly records what you type even when you decide not to post it

Posted: 28 Apr 2015 08:01 AM PDT

If you’re one of the more than 1.3 billion people who use Facebook on a regular basis, you’ve probably experienced occasions when you decided against posting something before you hit “Enter” and assumed that whatever it was that you had typed would be permanently deleted. This is not actually the case, according to Ireland-based tech consultant Priomh O hUiginn, who says that despite Facebook’s claims to the contrary, every comment or status update an individual types is sent to their servers whether one deletes it before posting or not.

“I was inspecting Facebook’s network traffic today in Firefox Devtools,” O hUiginn wrote on his blog, “when I realized that any text I put into the status update box was sent to Facebook’s servers, even if I did not click the post button.” Although Facebook asserts that it does not store this information, O hUiginn is rightly concerned that the social media giant collects the “self-censored” data in the first place. He observed: This is outright Orwellian, and inconvenient. Since I am now aware of this, I am more cautious about what I enter into the text area, however I can’t help but notice the adverse effect of my new found awareness – am I experiencing the censorship of my own thoughts because of a faceless entity such as Facebook that doesn’t care about you? I very much believe that is the case. A recent study regarding self-censorship on Facebook found that 71 percent of the network’s regular users have deleted text before posting it. Facebook’s excuse for collecting these self-censored texts is that it is searching them for the names of other members – a bit like the way that Google and other apps employ an auto-suggest feature. Media reports on warm ‘blob’ in Pacific Ocean pretend it can’t be related to huge plume of radioactive waste

Posted: 28 Apr 2015 07:57 AM PDT

Media outlets are widely reporting on two recent studies in the journal Geophysical Research Letters describing a giant “blob” of warm water that may be responsible for recent ecological and weather anomalies across the United States — from California’s drought to the East Coast’s severe winter to the thousands of dying sea lions washing up along the West Coast.

The “blob” — more precisely, the “warm anomaly” — is a patch of ocean water just off the coast of the Pacific Northwest that is about 1,000 miles across, 300 feet deep, and 3 degrees Celsius (5 degrees Fahrenheit) warmer than usual. It received its nickname from Nick Bond of Washington State University, lead author of one of the new studies. Do the new studies actually explain what the media are claiming? Are there potential explanations that are being ignored? Already, researchers have linked the blob to many of this past year’s alarming ecological occurrences. Warmer water is less rich in nutrients, which scientists say has caused effects including a crash in the population of copepods (tiny animals that form the base of the ocean’s food web) and the starvation of sea lion pups, causing thousands of the animals to strand themselves onshore. The warm water has also caused tropical fish to appear near Seattle. The new study by Bond and colleagues also links the blob to the recent weather disturbances. The researchers claim that the blob actually has an atmospheric cause: an unseasonal ridge of high-pressure air hovering above it. This high-pressure air (instead of the low-pressure air typical for the winter) has been associated with the ocean becoming unseasonably calm and warm, removing a major source of rain for the West Coast and contributing to California’s drought and the West Coast’s warmer-than-usual winter, according to the researchers. Baltimore streets fill with National Guard troops

Posted: 28 Apr 2015 07:44 AM PDT

National Guard troops filled the streets of Baltimore in the early morning Tuesday hours, bringing a semblance of calm to a city that was overrun with protesters who had set their sights on police, injuring 15 so far in the melees. Tuesday’s scene was of spotted looting, with police quickly calming any escalations in violence. Fox News reported authorities were also making arrests with greater speed than the previous evening, when some told members of the media their hands were tied by the city’s mayor, Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, and an order from her office to stand down on the apprehensions for unclear reasons.

Roughly 200 were taken into police custody in recent hours, though their specific charges aren’t yet known. The police who were injured in overnight protests – some by hurled rocks and bottles – were expected to fully recover, though at least one was unresponsive, deemed in critical condition. “We went to bed last night and the entire city smelled like smoke,” said Peter Doocy, from Fox News on Tuesday morning. “We woke up this morning and it’s pretty much the same thing.” MORE

Strong Magnitude 5.8 Earthquake Strikes Southeast Ecuador

Posted: 28 Apr 2015 07:31 AM PDT

A strong earthquake measuring 5.8 on the Richter scale has hit southeast Ecuador causing chaos, though there were no immediate reports of injuries or property damage. Ecuador’s Geophysical Institute said the earthquake occurred at 6:20 a.m. local time (1120 GMT) in Guayaquil, Guayas Province, at a depth of 71 kilometers (44 miles).

Ecuador’s jolt follows just three days after a devastating 7.8-magnitude quake hit Nepal, where more than 5,000 people have so far been reported dead. The quake in the Asian country has also caused heavy material damage in the capital, Kathmandu, and its rural areas. Earthquakes measuring over 5.5-magnitude are quite frequent and often cause damage to buildings and other structures. Temblors measuring from 7.0 to 7.9 on the Richter scale are considered major earthquakes, causing serious damage. They are not very frequent. Quakes of an 8.0-Richter magnitude can totally destroy communities near the epicenter and occur once every 5 to 10 years. Press TV

Finland fires warning shots at ‘foreign submarine’ near Helsinki

Posted: 28 Apr 2015 07:23 AM PDT

BREAKING NEWS – Finland has fired warning shots at a suspected foreign submarine off the coast of Helsinki in the early hours of Tuesday morning, amid growing military tensions with neighbouring Russia. Carl Haglund, Finland’s defence minister, did not say whether Russia was involved, but the incident was reminiscent of a Swedish hunt for a foreign submarine in its waters last October that many thought to be Russian. Mr Haglund told Finnish media that the target has likely left the area, adding that Finland has rarely used such warning charges. “We strongly suspect that there has been underwater activity that does not belong there. Of course it is always serious if our territorial waters have been violated,” Mr Haglund told Finnish news agency STT. “The bombs are not intended to damage the target, the purpose is to let the target know that it has been noticed,” Commodore Olavi Jantunen told Helsingin Sanomat newspaper.

The navy said it noticed an underwater target on Monday and again on Tuesday morning and dropped depth charges the size of grenades. “During surveillance of [Finland’s] territorial integrity, the navy detected a possible underwater object at midday (0900 GMT) on April 27, 2015, within Finland’s territorial waters close to the border outside Helsinki,” the defence ministry said in a statement. A second sighting was made during the night and “a warning was given with light depth charges at three in the morning,” the ministry added. No further sightings were reported after the warning shots and no details have been given of the type of vessel that was detected. The incident comes during an spike in Russian military activity in the Baltic which has prompted non-aligned Finland to announce closer military cooperation with its Nordic neighbours – including Nato members Norway and Denmark. Hillary Clinton Wants Christians to Give Up on Bible Beliefs

Posted: 28 Apr 2015 07:15 AM PDT

Hillary Clinton claims to be Christian. Barack Obama claims to be a Christian. And I am claiming to a brain surgeon! Any takers? You see just saying, “I am brain surgeon,” doesn’t mean I can perform brain surgery. I would need to back it up with a diploma and years of training. In the same way, no American will get elected president claiming, “The Bible is outdated, it’s just a bunch of stories. I am humanistic socialist at heart!” Sure the left will have no problem with that, but you can’t win without independents. So the candidates claim to be Christian—despite having very unchristian positions.

Giving an address at the Women in the World Summit last week, she made this statement: Far too many women are denied access to reproductive health care and safe childbirth, and laws don’t count for much if they’re not enforced. Rights have to exist in practice—not just on paper. Laws have to be backed up with resources and political will. And deep-seated cultural codes, religious beliefs and structural biases have to be changed. MORE

Paypal: Embeddable, Injectable And Ingestible Devices Are The Future For Commerce

Posted: 28 Apr 2015 07:06 AM PDT

The payments firm says people will start inserting security devices into their body to enable their unique bodily characteristics to let them into their PayPal accounts, which are commonly targeted by hackers and phishers. Jonathan LeBlanc, global head of developer advocacy at PayPal, said: “As long as passwords remain the standard methods for identifying your users on the web, people will still continue to use ‘letmein’ or ‘password123’ for their secure login, and will continue to be shocked when their accounts become compromised.” PayPal says that more secure biometric systems built around fingerprints and iris scans are set to become outdated, even before most institutions – including PayPal – adopt them. LeBlanc works with engineers and developers to find and test new technologies.

He says embeddable, injectable and ingestible devices are the future for mobile payments and sensitive online interactions. LeBlanc is currently giving a presentation called Kill all Passwords at various technology conferences around the US and Europe, and says technology is moving towards “true integration with the human body”. He says external body methods like fingerprints are “antiquated,” and that internal body functions like heartbeat and vein recognition using embedded and ingestible devices are the future, to allow “natural body identification.” LeBlanc says internal devices could include brain implants, and that ingestible devices could be powered by stomach acid that runs batteries. Nepal’s PM says quake death toll could reach 10,000

Posted: 28 Apr 2015 06:54 AM PDT

The death toll in Nepal’s earthquake could reach 10,000, Prime Minister Sushil Koirala has said, as survivors’ despair turned to anger at the government’s slow response to the humanitarian crisis unfolding in the country, with food, water and other essentials in desperately short supply. “The government is doing all it can for rescue and relief on a war footing,” Koirala said in an interview with Reuters. “It is a challenge and a very difficult hour for Nepal.” The death toll in Nepal alone rose to 5,057 on Tuesday, according to the country’s Emergency Operation Centre, which said more than 10,000 people have been injured. There are warnings the full extent of the tragedy will not be known until rescue teams have reached “flattened” villages in remote regions.“The death toll could go up to 10,000 because information from remote villages hit by the earthquake is yet to come in,” Koirala said.

In neighbouring India 61 people were killed and China’s official Xinhua News Agency said 25 people had died in Tibet. Eighteen others were killed in avalanches on Mount Everest.Another avalanche hit a village in the district of Rasuwa, north of Kathmandu, on Tuesday, leaving up to 250 people missing. Ghodatabela, about a 12-hour walk from the nearest town, is along a popular trekking route, but it was not clear if the missing included trekkers. Health workers said they feared a major health crisis was unfolding among survivors of the quake who are living in the open or in overcrowded tents with no access to sanitation or clean water. On Tuesday helicopters crisscrossed the skies above Gorkha, close to the epicentre of Saturday’s magnitude 7.8 quake, ferrying the injured to clinics and taking emergency supplies back to remote villages. Aid workers who had reached the region described entire villages reduced to rubble. “In some villages, about 90% of the houses have collapsed. They’re just flattened,” said Rebecca McAteer, an American physician. Udav Prashad Timalsina, the top official for Gorkha, warned that people were not getting food and shelter. MORE

Matt Drudge Warns America Could Fall

Posted: 28 Apr 2015 06:27 AM PDT

Matt Drudge warned that America could fall in the aftermath of riots that tore through Baltimore yesterday as thousands of National Guard troops were called up to deal with potential further unrest. “America, and everyone in it, must take a collective deep breath. The country could fall,” Drudge tweeted. Following widespread looting and arson attacks yesterday afternoon, the riots continued into the night, with many accusing Baltimore authorities of failing to respond quickly enough to the crisis.

Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake waited for around 5 hours to even make a statement as businesses burned and gangs of violent mobs ran riot, prompting Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan to imply that the Mayor had waited too long to call out the National Guard, telling a reporter he was “glad that she finally did” make the decision. During the press conference attended by Rawlings-Blake and other officials, hostility appeared to be targeted more at the media than the rioters, with accusations flying that the press refused to focus on “peaceful” demonstrators. Guess What Happened The Last Time Bond Yields Crashed Like This?

Israel Faces Off Against Syrian-Hizballah Alliance

On the face of it, Israel’s purported third air strike over Syrian territory in five days, this time targeting the Wadi a-Sheikh and Al Abasiya regions of the Qalamoun mountains, was in retaliation for the thwarted Hizballah attack on the Golan. However, DEBKAfile’s military sources give the exchange of blows a different slant: It is more likely to be the onset of a systematic Israeli campaign to wipe out Syrian-Hizballah military bases repositioned on the mountain range as depots and launching-pads for firing long-range missiles into Israel from Syrian territory. ……….. Court Upholds Right of Christian Company Not to Print T-Shirts With ‘Gay Pride’ Messages

by Marsha West

Christian News Network reports:

In the first decision of its kind upholding the rights of a Christian business, an appeals court has ruled that a Christian t-shirt company did not violate the law when it declined to print t-shirts for a local “gay pride” event.

As previously reported, the Gay and Lesbian Services Organization of Lexington (GLSO) had wanted the company Hand On Originals–a company that identifies as “Christian outfitters” on the home page of its website–to print t-shirts for the 2012 Lexington Gay Pride Festival. When manager Blaine Adamson declined the order due to the company’s biblical convictions, GLSO filed a complaint with the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government Human Rights Commission.

Albert Mohler Blog: “In Defense of Marriage, the Rule of Law, and Ordered Liberty”

With the Supreme Court hearing oral arguments on same-sex marriage today, Dr. R. Albert Mohler, Jr. reflects on the significance of Judge Sutton’s defense of traditional marriage in the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit in late 2014. Mohler writes:

“The ruling by the panel of the Sixth Circuit set the stage for the arrival of the issue once again at the United States Supreme Court As Judge Sutton indicated in the opening section to his opinion, he fully expected the Supreme Court to rule in favor of same-sex marriage. In his opinion, he made clear that this would be a mistake and a violation of the Court’s own logic. More importantly, Judge Sutton made clear that he believes that any straightforward reading of the Constitution in terms of its original meaning would allow the states to regulate marriage and to protect natural marriage as the central organizing principle of human society.”

The Rebirth of Martin Luther

“As to Romans, the source from which we thank Luther for his cry of “Sola Fide!” in the face of works-salvation, his long-held view of a wrath-ready God who judged the always impure by His perfect righteousness transformed when he saw justice met in Christ who gave His righteousness to him. Romans 1:17 caught Luther’s eye: “For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, The righteous shall live by faith.”

Why Religious Conservatives Want The Supreme Court To Consider Other Nations In Its Same-Sex Marriage Ruling

Despite the dominant media narrative in the United States, there is no international trend toward same-sex marriage. Of the 193 nations that belong to the United Nations, only 17 have changed the definition of marriage or allowed for unions that disregard male-female complementarity as no longer essential to the meaning of marriage. Out of those 17 nations, only one did so by judicial decree: Brazil. In all other cases, the legalization of same-sex marriage took place through the legislative process.

Gay Marriage, Part Two – Church & Culture Blog

*Editor’s Note: As the Supreme Court prepares to hear arguments on same-sex marriage this week, the Church & Culture Team felt it timely to take a recent address by Dr. White on the matter and turn it into a four-blog series that will be issued Monday-Thursday of this week. This is part two of that series. To read earlier installments, click here.

***************

To address the issue of homosexuality biblically, we have to begin with God’s original design for human sexuality and relationship. This design is found in the book of Genesis, which tells the story of the very creation of humanity:

The Lord God said, ‘It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him’…the Lord God made a woman…and brought her to the man…For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh. The man and his wife were both naked, and they felt no shame.” (Genesis 2:18, 22, 24-25, NIV)

There are four foundational truths to be learned from that passage.

Gay marriage will cause a winnowing of the evangelical ranks. It already is.

Most readers already know how historic today is in our national life. The Supreme Court will hear oral arguments concerning gay marriage. The Justices will render a decision on the matter by the end of June. Given the high court’s precedents in the 2003 Lawrence decision and in the 2013 Windsor decision, most observers agree that the current case is a forgone conclusion. The Supreme Court is poised to declare gay marriage a constitutional right.

Seven Essential Lessons from an Evangelical Scholar in the Secular Academy

by Michael Kruger

There are countless stories of evangelicals who head off to Ph.D. programs in hopes of becoming a professor and having a positive influence in the secular university environment. This is particularly the case in the fields of biblical studies or philosophical theology. And such aspirations are certainly commendable.

Unfortunately, the outcome of such endeavors is not always as expected. While these evangelicals intend to influence the academy, very often the academy ends up influencing them. As a result, many evangelicals end up abandoning the very commitments that led them towards advanced study in the first place.

But even though academic study has led some evangelicals to abandon their commitments, occasionally the opposite happens. Sometimes secular scholars abandon their commitment to liberal thinking and actually become evangelicals. And when this happens, their eyes are opened up to a number of truths that they had never noticed before (or at least refused to notice).

Such is the story of Thomas Oden. Oden received his Ph.D from Yale under Richard Niebuhr and was enamored with the theology of Marx, Nietzsche, Freud, and Bultmann. He interacted with some of the greatest minds of his generation such as Gadamer, Pannenberg, and Karl Barth. He was a classic liberal scholar.

But, then Oden had a change of heart. He tells the story in his book, A Change of Heart: A Personal and Theological Memoir (IVP, 2014). One day a Jewish friend looked him in the eye and reminded him of something very few would dare to say: that he would stand under divine judgment on the last day.

Then his friend said, “If you are ever going to become a credible theologian instead of a know-it-all pundit, you had best restart your life on firmer ground” (137).

Ouch.

The words struck a nerve and Oden began a journey that eventually resulted in a 180 degree turn away from liberalism and towards historic, traditional Christianity. Oden’s story provides a rare glimpse into the world of modern liberal scholarship from the perspective of someone who used to believe all the standard critical views but then changed his mind. Thus, there are a number of lessons we can learn from his journey…

Bruce Jenner Is Not A Woman. He Is A Sick And Delusional Man – “On Friday night, a mentally ill crossdresser named Bruce Jenner was interviewed for two hours during prime time about his plan to gruesomely mutilate his genitals in a macabre pseduo-medical ritual often erronsously described as a ‘sex change.’ He detailed his decision to Diane Sawyer, calmly declaring: ‘For all intents and purposes, I am a woman.’”

Idaho city’s ordinance tells pastors to marry gays or go to jail – “Coeur d‘Alene, Idaho, city officials have laid down the law to Christian pastors within their community, telling them bluntly via an ordinance that if they refuse to marry homosexuals, they will face jail time and fines.”

Andy Stanley Removes Shame from Homosexual Sin – “Imagine a pastor saying something similar about thieves, ‘Our church should be the safest place to talk about anything, including stealing. No more thieves are going to feel like they have to leave our church because they’re shoplifters or because they’re robbers. That ends with us.’”

The Master of the World! – “In these days of man-centered religion, verses like these have been ignored. The pulpits of our land preach a defeated God, a disappointed Christ and a defenseless Holy Spirit. Man has been deified, and God dethroned. Most preachers today hold to the theory that man is a free agent and the determiner of his own destiny. God has been relegated to the background.”

Lloyd-Jones Against Shepherd: Complete Statement – “I am in entire agreement with the view of Phillip E. Hughes, Stanford Reid and Palmer Robertson. Shepherd is wrong about modern evangelistic preaching. Its trouble is not that it preaches justification by faith only, but that it does not preach the glory and the majesty of God, the law, the depths of sin and man’s complete helplessness and hopelessness. It caters psychologically for man’s cry for a friend, or help, or comfort.”

ICC Note: Outspoken Boko Haram lead Abubakar Shekau has remained silent since his video threats ahead of the March 28 Nigerian presidential election that the poll would not proceed, “even if we are dead.” The notorious head of the Islamist terror group based in northern Nigeria has commanded a years-long campaign targeting Christians in the region and subjecting them to murder, kidnapping, forced conversion to Islam, and has coerced young girls into marrying Boko Haram fighters.

Hillary Clinton: let’s use government to force Christians to stop being pro-life

WINTERY KNIGHT

My friend Mary from Marin tweeted this story from Life News.

It says:

In a speech last week, Hillary Clinton lamented that too many women are supposedly denied abortions. The Democratic presidential candidate came under fire for that pro-abortion comment, but she also is drawing widespread condemnation for another remark in the speech.

The comment has Hillary Clinton essentially saying that Christians must be forced to change their religious views to accommodate abortions.

“Far too many women are still denied critical access to reproductive health care and safe childbirth. All the laws we’ve passed don’t count for much if they’re not enforced,” Clinton said, using the euphemism for abortion.

“Rights have to exist in practice — not just on paper,” Clinton argued. “Laws have to be backed up with resources and political will. And deep-seated cultural codes, religious beliefs and structural biases have to be changed,:

Bruce Jenner isn’t a ‘Hero’ or a ‘Trailblazer’

Zwinglius Redivivus

Bruce Jenner is a marketer.  He has a new book coming out about his ‘transition’ and he has, with the aid of ABC (a Disney Company), managed to get a lot of people to think him some sort of role model.  But exactly how is he that?

Is he the first transgendered person?  Nope.  Is he the first to take hormones?  Nope.  Is he the first to experience what he calls ‘confusion’ concerning his sexuality?  Nope.

It’s funny how a book deal can make the entertainment industry (ABC/ Disney) nearly wee itself in gleeful joy as it envisions the millions of dollars it can earn.  It would be very, very interesting to see if there’s any connection between the book’s publisher and the Disney corporation.  Because what says pimping a book on tv before it’s even in print quite like Disney?

Possessing the Treasure

31 And He began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again. 32 And He was stating the matter plainly. And Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him. 33 But turning around and seeing His disciples, He rebuked Peter and *said, “Get behind Me, Satan; for you are not setting your mind on God’s interests, but man’s.”
34 And He summoned the crowd with His disciples, and said to them, “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me. 35 For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel’s will save it. 36 For what does it…

There Will Be Earthquakes: The Crust Of The Earth Violently Roars To Life In Chile And Nepal

Nepal Earthquake 2015 - Photo by Krish DulalJust within the past few days, one of the most dangerous volcanoes in Chile erupted for the first time in 42 years and the nation of Nepal was hit by the worst earthquake that it has seen in 80 years.  Even though the crust of the Earth seems to be shaking more violently than ever, most of the experts continue to assure us that what we are witnessing is “normal” behavior.  But the cold, hard numbers tell a very different story.  As I pointed out in a previous article, the number of volcanic eruptions that are happening right now is greater than the 20th century’s average for an entire year.  Our planet appears to be getting more unstable, and that is not good news for any of us.  In fact, it was recently reported that 150 million Americans live in areas that are prone to earthquakes.  No matter how advanced our technology becomes, the truth is that we are still very much at the mercy of the forces of nature, and what just happened in Chile and in Nepal are clear reminders of this reality. (Read More…)

Obama Joked at Nerd Prom While Baltimore Rioted

Once again, Hollywood celebrities and DC politicians gathered in Washington Saturday for the White House Correspondents’ Dinner — AKA nerd prom. It’s an opportunity for Nancy Pelosi to rub shoulders with the likes of Jane Fonda and for Barack Obama to further his agenda and take down political opponents by dishing out punch lines. This year, the dinner only showed how out of touch the two institutions are with the rest of the nation, because while attendees were slurping down Foraged Wild Mushroom Ragout and Seared Alaskan Halibut protests became violent in Baltimore over the death of Freddie Gray, who died because of injuries he received while in police custody.

While the baseball game at Baltimore’s Camden Yards went into lockdown because of protests outside, three big television networks — CNN, MSNBC and CSPAN — kept their cameras trained on the White House Correspondents’ Dinner because Obama was going to start his jokes soon. Never mind that the latest chapter in the debate over modern day policing was being punctuated by vandalized police cars and smashed storefronts an hour away.

Obama was once again selling the tired issue of “climate change,” trying to make it matter to everyday Americans. “I am determined to make the most of every moment I have left,” Obama said. “After the midterm elections, my advisors asked me, ‘Mr. President, do you have a bucket list?’ And I said, ‘Well, I have something that rhymes with bucket list.’ Take executive action on immigration? Bucket. New climate regulations? Bucket. It’s the right thing to do.” But as executive editor of the Washington Free Beacon Sonny Bunch pointed out in a piece titled “This Is Why They Hate Us,” no one except those inside the Beltway cares about nerd prom.

Clinton Foundation Refiles Taxes as Media Grows Suspicious

On Sunday, the Clinton Foundation admitted it did not properly disclose which foreign governments donated to the organization while Hillary Clinton served as secretary of state. As a result, it is refiling taxes because of the “mistakes.” Acting CEO of the nonprofit Maura Pally issued a statement, saying, “So yes, we made mistakes, as many organizations of our size do, but we are acting quickly to remedy them, and have taken steps to ensure they don’t happen in the future.” This comes as liberal media organizations become increasingly suspicious of Clinton because of reports she favored foreign bureaucrats and oligarchs who donated to the Clinton Foundation during her time as madam secretary. This admission of fault from the Clinton Foundation is a way of damage control. If they own up to it and appear to fix the problem, then maybe they can move past the nasty headlines. But as the talking heads at The New York Times editorial board, ABC’s “World News Tonight,” MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” and CNN all said last week: These allegations are not about to go away. More…

Study Finds Significant Economic Effects of Immigration Surge

A new study from the Congressional Research Service discovered an interesting interrelation between depressed middle class incomes and increased immigration. The Washington Examiner reports that in 1945 the foreign-born population of the United States stood at 10,971,146, but by 1970 it slid to 9,740,000 for a net loss of 1,231,146 foreigners. At the same time, says the CRS, “The reported income of the bottom 90% of tax filers in the United States increased from an average of $18,418 in 1945 to $33,621 in 1970 for an aggregate change of $15,202 or a percent increase of 82.5% over this 25 year period.” In contrast, from 1970 to 2013, the foreign-born population blossomed from 9,740,000 to 41,348,066, a 324.5% increase. However, “The reported income of the bottom 90% of tax filers in the United States decreased from an average of $33,621 in 1970 to $30,980 in 2013 for an aggregate decline of $2,641 or a percent decline of 7.9% over this 43 year period.” There’s no question high-skilled emigrants who go through the system legally contribute positive economic effects. The issue is that our basically open borders has allowed the population of unskilled illegal immigrants to swell, which undoubtedly strangles the overall economy. Border security must be Congress’ top priority to fix the overarching issues affecting America’s middle class.

FEATURED RIGHT ANALYSIS

The Wisconsin Left Tried to Criminalize Free Speech

By Arnold Ahlert

2015-04-27-64947a87_large.jpg

Anyone still wondering how low the American Left will sink in pursuit of its agenda should turn their gaze toward Wisconsin. In a blatant attempt at political intimidation masquerading itself as legitimate investigation, police conducted a series of early morning raids at the homes of several Wisconsin conservatives. Dozens of armed officers showed up for pre-dawn raids with battering rams, swarming into houses and threatening the people inside with arrest if they didn’t cooperate, even as they seized personal property. And on the way out, the invaders gave every person they encountered the same warning: Don’t call your lawyer, and don’t tell anyone about what happened, because a gag order is in place.

How is it that people can be forced to remain silent even as police conducted large, noisy raids more suitable to taking down a drug kingpin right in front of their neighbors? Because law enforcement officials in Wisconsin are allowed to conduct John Doe investigations, defined as “an independent, investigatory tool to ascertain whether a crime has been committed and if so, by whom.” And unlike other investigations that require probable cause to pursue, John Doe investigations are conducted to establish the existence of probable cause itself.

Under the rubric of looking for campaign-finance violations, the investigations were initiated by Milwaukee district attorney John Chisholm, a partisan Democrat — whose wife is a teachers’ union shop steward — and a man determined to find anything that could undermine the political career of rising Republican star Gov. Scott Walker. Walker has thwarted Wisconsin leftists at every turn, winning three elections, including a recall effort, in just four years.

Chisholm’s undertook his first John Doe investigation in 2010, when Walker was Milwaukee County Executive. After three years, it netted all of six individuals who pled guilty to crimes ranging from stealing money from a veterans’ fund, and sending political emails on government time, to violation of state campaign finance laws and contributing to the delinquency of a child. Walker himself? Never even charged.

Undaunted, Chisholm launched a second John Doe investigation shortly after Democrats failed to remove Walker in the recall election in 2012, an act of naked revenge precipitated by the passage of Walker’s “budget repair bill” known as Act 10. Act 10 limited the collective bargaining power of unions — including the teachers union to which Chisholm’s wife belonged. The machination surrounding the passage of Act 10 included Democratic state legislators fleeing the state to prevent a vote on the issue, an effort to affect a liberal majority on the Wisconsin Supreme Court for the purpose of overturning the law after it was passed, and the recall election.

The second probe, led by special prosecutor Francis Schmitz, targeted Walker and 29 conservative groups. Dozens of subpoenas were issued demanding documents related to the 2011 and 2012, campaign, all based on the theory that these groups had illegally coordinated their activities during recall campaigns of Walker and other Republican legislators targeted for supporting Act 10. National Review’s Rich Lowry aptly described what really occurred. “Walker’s opponents weaponized campaign-finance law, literally,” he explains.

One of those groups, Wisconsin Club for Growth (WCFG), and its founder Eric O’Keefe filed suit. In 2014, U.S. District Judge Rudolph Randa granted a preliminary injunction halting the investigation, and hammered prosecutors “for exercising issue advocacy speech rights that on their face are not subject to the regulations or statutes the defendants seek to enforce.” The Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals dismissed the case on appeal, but not because they disagreed with Randa’s interpretation, but because the Anti-Injunction Act prohibited federal courts from intervening in a state criminal investigation based on the cited principles of “equity, comity, and federalism.” Circuit Judge Frank Easterbrook characterized the ruling as victory for states’ rights.

Nonetheless it remain clear O’Keefe’s rights were violated and Section 1983 of the U.S. Code allows citizens to be granted relief under federal law if their rights have been violated by state officials. Last Friday, the Supreme Court began deliberations to determine if O’Keefe v. Chisholm will be heard by the highest court in the land. The Wall Street Journal insists such a hearing is critically necessary because the theory of coordination, allowing “vast investigations to be instigated on the thinnest evidence” it is part of yet another leftist effort to undermine the Court’s 2010 Citizens United ruling that lifted unconstitutional restrictions on spending by corporations and labor unions. That would be the very same Citizen’s United decision that former IRS hack Lois Lerner was bemoaning at Duke’s Sanford School of Public Policy on Oct. 19, 2010 when she stated that the “Federal Election Commission can’t do anything about it; they want the IRS to fix the problem.”

The IRS decided to “fix” the problem by denying or delaying conservative groups’ tax-exempt status, and attempting to coordinate with the Eric Holder-led Justice Department to tamp down revelations regarding that scandal. Wisconsin Democrats chose to fix it by conducting two separate witch-hunts replete with dawn raids and gag orders. In a better world, lots of people would be getting disbarred and/or going to jail. In this one, the American Left will continue its attempt to criminalize speech with which they disagree — by any means necessary — until they are stopped.

Stopped from doing what? Try this, courtesy of National Review’s David French:

“As I finished an interview with one victim still living in fear, still shattered by the experience of nearly losing everything simply because she supported the wrong candidate at the wrong time, I asked whether she had any final thoughts. ‘Just one,’ she replied. ‘I’m hoping for accountability, that someone will be held responsible so that they’ll never do this again.’ She paused for a moment and then, with voice trembling, said: ‘No one should ever endure what my family endured.’”

Here’s hoping the Supreme Court agrees — in no uncertain terms.

BEST OF RIGHT OPINION

OPINION IN BRIEF

Stephen Moore: “[B]illionaire Tom Steyer convened the uber-rich liberal donor base at the Four Seasons Hotel in Seattle — nice — to pontificate about how much they care about polar bears, the Arctic ice caps and rising sea levels. … A Gallup poll found in March 2015 that only 2 percent of Americans perceive the ‘environment/pollution’ as the nation’s ‘most important problem.’ And a Bloomberg poll last year specifically listing climate as a candidate for ‘most important issue’ found only 5 percent of Americans concurring. Polls also show the richer Democrats are, the more they care about climate change. Maybe that’s because green policies hurt the poor and working class — starting most obviously with opposition to modern drilling techniques such as fracking, and with blocking infrastructure projects that would create tens of thousands of high-paying union jobs. … No one on the left, least of all the donors who are funding the climate change scare campaign, seem to care about how the poor will cope with slow growth and higher costs. The Sierra Club’s Lexus liberals can afford a future with less growth, fewer jobs and higher costs for everything. The middle class can’t. Democrats have abandoned the financial interests of these Americans. Republicans really are the stupid party if they can’t win these disenchanted voters.”

And then at the end there were a few people who said, ‘We’re gonna turn this city down [sic], we’re gonna close it down,’ and the next thing you know we had a few people mainly from out of town … start beating up on police cars and throwing all kinds of projectiles. But the fact is that, for the most part, it could have been worse. But again, this whole police-community relations situation … is the civil rights cause for this generation.” —Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD)

Race bait: “With an institution like American policing, that I believe is founded on anti-blackness, on slave patrols, there are things that are so institutionally ingrained in terms of how we police communities, that are anti-black. They may not say specifically in the language, in the words, that they’ll stop and target black people, but when you do this type of proactive policing … these disproportionately [affect] black and brown and poor communities. So, these things are not only racist, they are also classist.” —community organizer Cherrell Brown (Start with giving police a reason not to disproportionately patrol black communities that have disproportionate levels of crime.)

Village Idiots: “What the Clinton Foundation has said is that we will be even more transparent, even though Transparency International and others have said we’re among the most transparent of foundations. I very much believe that that is the right policy. That we’ll be even more transparent. That to eliminate any questions while we’re in this time, we won’t take new government funding, but that the work will continue as it is.” —Chelsea Clinton

Late-night humor: “It’s being reported that Google spent over $5 million on lobbying just during the first quarter of this year. You’d think Google wouldn’t really need to lobby politicians. All they have to say is, ‘We have your search history. Do what we tell you.'” —Jimmy Fallon

Nepal Earthquake Death Toll Rises above 4,000

Nepal Earthquake Death Toll Rises above 4,000 Hundreds of American citizens remain in Nepal, with many of them sheltering in compounds and others trying to leave amid fear and frenzy in the earthquake-ravaged country. The death toll from the 7.8-magnitude earthquake and aftershocks rose above 4,000 today, according to officials. Many streets in Kathmandu were impassable, filled not only with rubble but with the injured and with people unwilling to go into any building, fearing the effects of another aftershock.Ineke Stoneham, press and information officer with the public affairs section for the U.S. Embassy Kathmandu, said hundreds of inquiries — from Kathmandu and through the Washington consular call center — have been made regarding the welfare and whereabouts of American citizens. About 3,000 American citizens reside in Nepal, and 3,000 to 4,000 Americans usually visit Nepal during the current peak tourism season, Stoneham said. About 75 American citizens are sheltering in the embassy, while about 150 others are sheltering at the Phora Durbar compound, Stoneham said. Aadhaar world’s largest biometric ID system

Posted: 27 Apr 2015 08:13 AM PDT

Aadhaar world’s largest biometric ID systemThe Aadhaar card has emerged as probably the world’s largest biometric identification programmes in the world with the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) issuing nearly 82 crore cards. Available data shows that the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) biometric database is way behind with 15 crore and with more Indians expected to register for Aadhaar, it could emerge as the largest programme of its kind globally. Uttar Pradesh had the highest number of enrolments with 10.48 crore cards while Maharashtra had 9.19 crore and West Bengal 6.12 crore up to April 20. Data showed that the UIDAI has issued 81.78 crore cards, covering nearly 67% of the population. The unique ID card programme, which was on the brink of being abandoned after the NDA government was swept to power in May last year, has been pursued vigorously by the Modi administration as it pushed to tackle unwieldy subsidies and roll out its massive Jan Dhan financial inclusion drive. The government persisted with Aadhaar after the former chairman of UIDAI Nandan Nilekani detailed the benefits of the Aadhaar card to PM Narendra Modi. Mysterious ‘god’ cloud and lightning appear over Chilean volcano

Mysterious ‘god’ cloud and lightning appear over Chilean volcanoA Mysterious  “god like” person has appeared in a cloud following the Calbuco volcano eruption in Chile. The photo, which shows a cloud that resembles a human-like figure, is believed to be a sign from the gods by locals after the volcano blew for the first time in 40 years. On Wednesday local time, a state of emergency was declared in the town after the volcano violently erupted, sending ash soaring into the stratosphere. The eruption itself wasn’t anticipated by either the government or scientists.Above the mysterious cloud, the eruption showed one of the most dazzling light displays the world has ever seen. Huge lightning strikes were caused as the volcano erupted due to particles mixing together in liquid and ice states. These then cause an electrical charge to build up, just like it does in a typical thunderstorm. MORE

America’s new LGBT envoy

Posted: 27 Apr 2015 08:00 AM PDT

America’s new LGBT envoyHis job is to promote the human rights of gays and lesbians around the world. When officials at the State Department began mulling the notion of creating a special LGBT envoy, there was some trepidation. A few worried that designating an envoy expressly for the purpose of promoting the rights of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people around the world — an official goal of U.S. diplomacy since 2011 — would stovepipe the issue and lead others at State to neglect it. Others, according to a State employee involved in the process, wondered if including “LGBT” in the title would hurt the envoy’s ability to get meetings with senior officials in countries such as Uganda and Russia, where gays have increasingly come under legal attack. In February, veteran U.S. diplomat Randy Berry was named to the carefully titled position of America’s “special envoy for the human rights of LGBT persons,” and it’s clear he has no intention of being isolated either at State or by any state.
In an interview with POLITICO, the 50-year-old, openly gay diplomat sketched out an ambitious agenda, one he hopes will mean forging ties with activists, companies and governments everywhere, including in places hostile to people such as himself. Of the thousands of positive messages he’s received so far — he can’t think of a negative one — Berry points out that a big chunk came from the Islamic Republic of Iran, whose former president insisted the country had no gays. Surely, he argues, even the most ardent opponents of gays wouldn’t object to having a discussion on whether people in the LGBT community deserve basic human rights. MORE

Top U.S. court appears on cusp of declaring right to gay marriage

Posted: 27 Apr 2015 07:54 AM PDT

Top U.S. court appears on cusp of declaring right to gay marriage The U.S. Supreme Court’s arguments on Tuesday over same-sex marriage will cap more than two decades of litigation and a transformation in public attitudes. Based on the court’s actions during the past two years, a sense of inevitability is in the air: That a majority is on the verge of declaring gay marriage legal nationwide. Justice Anthony Kennedy, the court’s pivotal member on gay rights, has been marching in this direction with opinions dating to 1996. In his most recent gay rights decision for the court in 2013, rejecting a legal definition of marriage limited to a man and woman for purposes of federal benefits, Kennedy deplored that U.S. law for making gay marriages “unequal.” That 5-4 decision did not address a constitutional right to same-sex marriage, but lower court judges interpreted the ruling as an endorsement of it and began invalidating state bans. When states appealed rulings striking down their same-sex marriage prohibitions, the Supreme Court declined to intervene, most notably in October 2014 when it denied appeals in seven cases on a single day.Instead, the nine justices are hearing in Tuesday’s oral arguments an appeal of the sole decision from a regional U.S. appeals court that went the opposite way. Last November, the Cincinnati-based U.S. Court of Appeals for the 6th Circuit upheld gay marriage bans in Ohio, Michigan, Kentucky and Tennessee. MORE

US National Guard’s drills in public aimed at dealing with Domestic “Dissidents”

Posted: 27 Apr 2015 07:39 AM PDT

US National Guard’s drills in public aimed at dealing with Domestic "Dissidents"US Army field manuals admit that public drills are aimed at dealing with political dissidents that need to be “reeducated to gain a new appreciation of US policies,” Paul Joseph Watson, Infowars Editor at Large told RT’s In the Now.

RT: The police in the US are accused more than ever now of militarization. A video has appeared online showing armed national guardsmen conducting exercises near a children’s playground in Virginia. We contacted the infantry brigade – here’s what they told us: coordination was made with the Staunton Police Department, these are freshers who are training on basic military subjects like drill and ceremonies, basic first aid, military courtesies and the guns they carry are replicas. What is wrong with it?

Paul Joseph Watson: What is wrong with that is the fact that they are doing it not on base but in public. And we have to put this in the context of a spate of videoswhich have emerged in the recent weeks with not only National Guard but US Army troops in some cases working with police conducting these public drills which in some cases, not in this case but others, are based around crowd control and civil unrest. And the line they always give us that it’s designed for overseas combat, foreign operations. But if you then read the US Army’s actual manuals that they release, it’s clear that it’s for dual purpose, it’s for “dissidents” on US soil. So the media regurgitate this claim that all these drills are just foreign operations. Yet they are doing it in public, in plain sight, while privately in their own field manuals admitting that it’s to take on “dissidents within the continental US.” That’s why people are concerned about it and a lot of our audience is National Guard or former or current US military. They are concerned about these public drills. They didn’t enlist to police the US people which is a lot of this seems to be geared towards. MORE

New Video Shows Tennessee Cops & National Guard in Riot Control Exercise

New Video Shows Tennessee Cops & National Guard in Riot Control Exercise New video footage has emerged of Tennessee Air National Guard troops training with the Knoxville Police Department to deal with civil unrest, just the latest of a spate of examples of authorities gearing up for domestic disorder. The training exercise, which took place earlier this month, shows Guard troops and police officers taking turns to play the role of rioters, throwing objects and powder at each other during the crowd control drills. The training, which involves troops from the 134th Air Refueling Wing of the Tennessee Air National Guard, is now taking place once a month, according to one of the officials quoted in the video, who also noted that the Knoxville Police Department’s “riot control team” is involved in the exercises. The police officers are training the Guard troops, “in case they ever come in contact with a riot control situation,” according to the official. Another National Guard official interviewed for the piece stated, “We use this training because we know that if we have to use it in the outside world or within a base then we’re ready.” Over the last few weeks, we have featured numerous video clips of training exercises based around riot control and martial-law style scenarios being carried out by police, National Guard and U.S. military forces across the United States. Freak hailstorm pounds the southeast, causes widespread damage to homes and disables SES headquarters

Freak hailstorm pounds the southeast, causes widespread damage to homes and disables SES headquartersA FREAK hailstorm that pelted southeast Sydney on Saturday caused widespread damage and disabled the Randwick State Emergency Service headquarters. Ominous clouds rolled in about 5pm on Saturday and unleashed a deluge of small hail stones and rain for close to an hour. It surprised thousands out and about winding down after record attendance at Anzac Day commemorations across the southeast. In a dramatic turn of events the SES headquarters in Maroubra was forced to relocate to a Randwick City Council depot after its ceiling collapsed. It came as volunteers scrambled in response to 210 calls for assistance. Randwick SES spokesman Terry Pappas said staff were preparing for an influx of call outs during the storm when they noticed water running down from the ceiling. “We heard the hail, which was quite deafening, and we noticed that the ceiling had collapsed in several places and water was running down the corridor,” Mr Pappas said. “And then systemically it caused a collapse in all of the room’s ceilings. The worst call out was a 90 year old deaf lady in Maroubra (the worst hit), who had all of her ceilings collapse while she was inside,” he said. “She literally had nothing left in her house … she lost everything.” On Sunday morning adventurous residents took advantage of the freak weather event to build snowmen. Some used the opportunity to break out toboggans and snowboards. The deluge came just two days after the southeast was battered by its worst storm in 16 years. EP

3 Ways to Stoke the Fire of Personal Revival

Posted: 27 Apr 2015 07:00 AM PDT

3 Ways to Stoke the Fire of Personal RevivalSo many people ask me how I keep my personal passion for God burning so hot all the time. I tell them its very simple; there are three things you must do: Read the Word of God, and pray and fast on a regular schedule. The Word of God is so clear on how we are to keep the fire of personal daily revival going. Lets start off with Mark 1:35, “Now in the morning, having risen a long while before daylight, He went out and departed to a solitary place; and there He prayed.” Before the day even got started the Son of God knew the importance of being ready to face the day and all it had for Him. Your early morning prayer time lets you connect with God first thing in the morning without you waking up late and rushing around. Honestly if you start your day rushed, you’re rushed all day. So wake up early and start your day as Jesus did with the Father. Psalm 119:9-11 says, “How can a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed according to Your word. With my whole heart I have sought You; Oh, let me not wander from Your commandments! Your word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You.” When we have the Word of God hidden in our heart, it will guide us in all our ways, its truly a light unto our path. The Word says people are destroyed for the lack of knowledge. The book of Proverbs is all about knowledge, wisdom and understanding. Get into the Word and remember John 1:1, which says, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” MORE

America Is Ignoring God’s Clear Warning Signs

Posted: 27 Apr 2015 06:56 AM PDT

America Is Ignoring God's Clear Warning SignsAlthough fictitious, these imaginary headlines may be more fact than fiction if America continues to ignore the warning signs. Mandatory Euthanasia Bill: What many call genocide, Congress calls necessary to curtail rising healthcare costs. In the hope of reclaiming financial stability, many legislators plan to sign a mandatory Euthanasia Bill. In defense of the Bill, some State Representatives claim that abortion has helped to offset rising healthcare costs. This new legislation will include those with terminal or chronic illnesses—life will be terminated when rehabilitation is uncertain, and/or when lingering illnesses threaten the economy. Those with extreme religious views, and the elderly, are also being considered. Congress Lowers Age of Sexual Consent: Congress will vote later this year to lower the age of sexual consent to 12. Members have agreed to consider new research indicating that sex between children and adults may be beneficial. Although this new research is absurd and appears extremely problematic and biased, it may have prompted a trend in the lower Courts to assign convicted pedophiles lesser penalties such as community service, or rehabilitation, for committing lewd acts with children. This movement may explain why many judges now offer rehabilitation rather than imprisonment. Even though research confirms that punishment reduces crime, many appear eager to facilitate this new trend. MORE

Obama Says No To Israel’s ‘Right To Exist’ Clause In Iran Nuclear Deal Framework

A State Department official dismissed a plea Friday from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that the Iran nuclear agreement include clear recognition of his nation’s “right to exist,” declaring negotiations are “only about the nuclear issue.”

State Department spokeswoman Marie Harf, in a terse response to a question about Netanyahu’s concerns, told reporters, “This is an agreement that is only about the nuclear issue” — a comment that indicates the Obama administration is not looking to enshrine Israel’s security into a final agreement.

Harf, for her part, suggested the talks are complicated enough already. “This is an agreement that doesn’t deal with any other issues, nor should it,” she said.

Obama administration officials have insisted all along that despite their public disagreement with Netanyahu over the Iran deal framework, the U.S. commitment to Israel’s security is unwavering. Further, White House spokesman Eric Schultz told reporters on Air Force One on Friday that the U.S. would not agree to any deal that would threaten Israel.

The Israeli prime minister, though, made the call for the “right to exist” measure during brief remarks early Friday. He blasted the Iran framework deal and said his Cabinet is uniformly opposed to it. He closed his brief address by demanding that any final agreement include “a clear and unambiguous Iranian recognition of Israel’s right to exist.”

The statement was prompted by reported statements from a top Iranian military official, who was quoted saying “erasing Israel” off the map is “non-negotiable.”

To that, Netanyahu said: “The survival of Israel is non-negotiable.”

Israel’s objections promise to be a major hurdle for the Obama administration as its representatives huddle with those from Iran and five other world powers in pursuit of a final deal by a June 30 deadline. source

Kings Of The North And South Update

Commentary by Jack Kelley

Over the past five years or so I have written several times about the middle eastern kings of Daniel 11 known as the kings of the north and the south. In these studies I’ve shown how these two kings will become prominent again in the end times as the Shiites (king of the north) and the Sunnis (king of the south) vie for supremacy in the Islamic movement. Before getting a look at what’s currently happening in this coming clash, let’s have a quick review of their origins.

A Nation in Trouble

Instead of preaching the way of the Lord, some are preaching the way of political correctness. And instead of growing their church spiritually, they have led their flocks away from God and watched their churches decline.

Now America is reaping the results of this sinful demise in moral character, and the anemic commitments made to our Lord and Savior. We have built wealth without building people spiritually.

Again it involves a satanic evil of hatred, violence, and sadistic cruelty. And again it involves an innocent people marked for destruction—the followers of Jesus, known throughout the world as “Christians,” those who are taught, when struck, to turn the other cheek, when cursed, to bless, and when persecuted, to forgive those who oppress them.

New Christian Zionists Seek Distance From ‘Wild, Crazy Popular Apocalypticism

Many popular Christian books about the end times were based upon some dispensational-type teachings. In the 1970’s, for instance, Hal Lindsey’s The Late, Great Planet Earth was a best selling book, which led to a cottage industry of end times books. There were also popular fictional works, such as Tim LaHaye and Jerry Jenkins’ Left Behind series, which have been made into films. A recent example is Pastor John Hagee’s Four Blood Moons. Christianbook.com currently has a “Prophecy & End Times” section with 1,458 works.

This pop-apocalypticism was also on display recently when former congresswoman and presidential candidate Michele Bachmann said on a radio show that the end times were near and associated that prediction with President Barack Obama’s foreign policy.

The Master of the World!

by Landon

1 Chronicles 29:10-12 “So David blessed the LORD in the sight of all the assembly; and David said: Blessed are You, O LORD God of Israel our father, forever and ever. Yours, O LORD, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty, indeed everything that is in the heavens and the earth; Yours is the dominion, O LORD, and You exalt Yourself as head over all. Both riches and honor come from You, and You rule over all, and in Your hand is power and might; and it lies in Your hand to make great and to strengthen everyone!”

In these days of man-centered religion, verses like these have been ignored. The pulpits of our land preach a defeated God, a disappointed Christ and a defenseless Holy Spirit. Man has been deified, and God dethroned. Most preachers today hold to the theory that man is a free agent and the determiner of his own destiny. God has been relegated to the background.

The God most people believe in has benevolent intentions, yet He is unable to carry them out. He wants to bless men, but they will not let Him. The average churchgoer thinks Satan has gained the upper hand, and that God is to be pitied rather than worshiped. Modern preaching is so lopsided that when we mention God, people immediately think of a babe in a manger, or a dead man on a cross. Much Christian service is rendered to get God out of an embarrassing situation. The God of popular Christianity has a weak smile and a halo.

Complementarian Organizations and Where Women Belong

When we confuse parachurch organizations with the local church, we end up with a muddled mess. We can’t definitively answer a question of “where does a woman belong in a complementarian organization?” because applications about teaching and authority only make sense in context of a community that actually possesses authority. Some would say to simply “err on the safe side” and apply the dynamics of local church ministry to parachurch organizations. But doing this may actually minimize the significance of the local church the same way that calling a woman to submit to all men diminishes the significance of her submission to her own husband.

To “love” someone, according to our society, is to affirm every decision they make and to applaud them just for being them. But this is precisely what love demands.

Ben Witherington’s hard-hitting critique of Rachel Held Evans’ new book

by Denny Burk

New Testament scholar Ben Witherington has penned a fairly hard-hitting review of Rachel Held Evans’ new book Searching for Sunday., which landed on The New York Times
bestseller list last week. Witherington likes Evans personally and even affirms her as a “genuine Christian person.” He is generally sympathetic with some of her complaints about evangelicalism. Nevertheless, he comes down pretty hard on her affirmation sex outside of marriage. He writes:

I wish Rachel had continued her studies in a formal way and been better trained in Biblical interpretation and how to deal with difficult ethical and theological issues. I have seen what happens when Christian college kids come to seminary and realize in their first year of seminary that college has given them just enough reading and training to make them dangerous and half-baked when it comes to understanding the world, the flesh, and the Devil.

Rachel with her keen mind has overcome not only some of her context but some of her education, but it would have been so much better if she had continued that education, not merely by continuing to read, but by having good dialogue partners who are not just pastors, or peers. But alas, this apparently has not happened, and as result, she uses her blog and her books to promulgate her heartfelt convictions, even when, had she run them by some older and wiser professors of faith, she might have thought better of some of the things she has said and is saying. And of course, there are thousands out there in the blogosphere prepared to give the Amen to her pronouncements, thousands who resonate with and feel like her. That sort of affirmation is intoxicating, but it is not the approval of the one person who really needs to pass judgment on what we say— the Lord Jesus Christ.

That Jesus tells us plainly enough that there are only two options for Christians— chastity in singleness, and fidelity in marriage, with the latter clearly enough defined as the relationship between a man and woman (Mt. 19/Mk. 10), who alone have the possibility of sharing a one flesh union in Christ, because of course the image of God is male and female, not male and male, or female and female… There are two callings Jesus offers, and Paul affirms. Not three, four or ten…

… If we don’t believe the grace of God is greater than the power of our sinful inclinations, then we have given up on the power of the Gospel.

Andy Stanley Removes Shame from Homosexual Sin

As a Christian man, I struggle with sin; “Struggle” being the key word. The apostle Paul spoke of the ongoing battle that is a part of every Christian’s life. We can draw comfort from his words, knowing that our experience is not unusual— that we are not failing as Christians because we are engaged in a fight.

I find then the principle that evil is present in me, the one who wants to do good. For I joyfully concur with the law of God in the inner man, but I see a different law in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin which is in my members. (Romans 7:21-23 NASB)

This struggle can sometimes wreak havoc in us mentally, spiritually, and even physically. As a help, we should “lean on” one another. As a man, I find it helpful to talk about my latest sins and temptations with other Christian men. In fact, the bible tells us we should do so in James 5:16, “Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another so that you may be healed. The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much.

Seven Reasons Some Church Members Don’t Want Their Churches to Grow

It is highly unusual to hear church members say that they don’t desire their churches to be obedient to the Great Commission. Indeed, it is common for the members of a pastor search committee to tell a prospective pastor that they are looking for a leader who will guide the church toward growth.

And most church members do desire to see their churches grow . . . until the growth affects them. It is at that point they can become disillusioned and critical.

So what is it about growth that impacts some members negatively? Let me suggest seven reasons.

  1. Loss of familiarity. When a church is growing, it becomes a different church over time. The difference is not necessarily good or bad, but it’s not the same as it was in earlier years. Some church members grieve when they see their churches change. They miss “the good old days.”
  2. Loss of memories. I recently heard a poignant story from a lady whose church was demolishing the old worship center to build a new one to accommodate growth. She and her husband were married in the old worship center. She understandably grieved at the loss of that physical reminder of their wedding.
  3. Loss of comfort. Growth can mean that the closest parking spots are no longer available. Growth can mean that the traffic flow in the parking lot is more difficult. Church members can feel that their creature comforts are compromised by growth.
  4. Loss of power. New people in a church can mean that power bases are diluted. The growth can result in new influencers in the church. Some of the longer-tenured influencers may not like that.
  5. Loss of perceived intimacy. It’s a common response: “I used to know everyone in this church. I just don’t feel as close to members as I once did.” Indeed, growth can mean that all the members may not know each other as they did when the church was smaller.
  6. Loss of worship style. New members and attendees might have different worship style preferences. They often influence church leaders to make changes. Existing members may resent these changes. They might also start worship wars.
  7. Loss of worship time. Growth in the church may necessitate adding worship services or changing times of worship services. Some members may be frustrated that they have lost “their” worship time.

Obedience to the Great Commission often results in growth in the church. But growth in the church is not always received well by some members. Some of these members have an attitude that the church is there to serve them and to cater to their needs. Healthy church members understand they are to be giving and sacrificial members of the body of Christ (1 Corinthians 12). They will rejoice when more members join the fellowship, and when more people become believers in Christ.

Have you experienced the phenomenon of anti-growth members in your church? How did it manifest itself? I look forward to hearing from you.

Dear Bruce Jenner: Please Consider Your Children’s Emotional Well-Being – “America is watching intently as you seek to transition from man to woman. So are your daughters. As a daughter who watched her own father make the same choice, I plead with you to reconsider. My father’s revelation to me that he wanted to become a woman sent my life into a tailspin.”

Make Your Calling and Election Sure – “Why is calling here put before election, seeing election is eternal, and calling takes place in time? I reply, because calling is first to us. The first thing which you and I can know is our calling: we cannot tell whether we are elect until we feel that we are called. We must, first of all, prove our calling, and then our election is sure most certainly.”

Hall of Shame – Always follow your notes! – “Well, I just wrapped up giving four talk on the issue of the Charismatic Renewal movement. Things went pretty well (though as a speaker you never really know how things went; my self perception is always highly inaccurate), but I made one error big enough that I feel the need to point it out and offer some correction.”

Presbyterian Pastor: “I Love Planned Parenthood.” Calls Abortion Business a “Ministry” – “Life News reports on a pastor who loves abortion mill Planned Parenthood…”

Equipping Eve Episode 13: Life Verses and Labyrinths – “One website defines a life verse as “the scripture quote that seems to speak to you directly – the one that holds a personal meaning for you.” What is the danger of committing yourself to one “life verse” that has been divorced from its broader context? Also—what is a prayer labyrinth and are they biblical?”

The Uniqueness of Scripture

The Reformed Reader

One of the attributes of Scripture that we might not think about so much is the fact that it is completely unique.  Scripture is the only clear, sufficient, necessary, authoritative, and perfect source of saving knowledge of our Triune God (Ps. 12:6, 2 Pet. 1:21, John 10:35, Rom. 3:4, 2 Tim. 3:15-17, etc.).  John Murray stated this well in a lecture he gave to an Inter-Varsity Fellowship group in 1960:

“Apart from the Scriptures and the knowledge derived from them, we today would be in complete darkness respecting the content of our Christian faith.  We must not deceive ourselves as to the darkness and confusion that would be ours if there were no Bible.  We depend upon the message of Scripture for every tenet of our faith, for every ray of redemptive light that illumines our minds, and for every ray of hope against the issues of time and eternity. …

Faithfulness to the Master (Luke 12:40-48)

Joe Quatrone, Jr.

TimeTalentTr2012_jpgJesus has entrusted us, as His servants, to do His work and be obedient to the truth we’ve received. In Luke 12:40-48, He is telling us we are all to be managers of important resources. Some people do a good job and others are poor spiritual managers. In verse 35, Jesus begins warning His disciples to be ready for His return. Then, in verse 40, He says,

You also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.”

Peter asked, “Lord, are you telling this parable to us, or to everyone?”

The Lord answered, “Who then is the faithful and wise manager, whom the master puts in charge of his servants to give them their food allowance at the proper time? It will be good for that servant whom the master finds doing so when he returns. Truly I…

GTY Blog: Shade for Our Children

Ephesians 6:4

Code: B150427

by John MacArthur

An old Chinese proverb says, “One generation plants the trees and another gets the shade.” Our generation lives in the shade of many trees that were planted by our ancestors.

In spiritual terms, we derive shade from our parents’ and grandparents’ ethical standards, their perceptions of right and wrong, their sense of moral duty, and above all, their spiritual commitment. Their ideals determined the kind of civilization we inherited from them, and our generation’s ideals will likewise shape tomorrow’s culture for our kids.

There’s no question that society is in a serious state of moral and spiritual decline. So the question that faces Christian parents today is whether we can plant some trees that will shade future generations from what may well be the blistering heat of anti-Christian values in an anti-Christian world. Are we planting the right kind of shade trees, or are we leaving our children totally exposed?

The Demise of Modern Society

It should be obvious to anyone who is committed to the truth of Scripture that our culture is rapidly disintegrating morally, ethically, and above all spiritually. The values now embraced by society are badly out of sync with God’s divine order.

In fact, the only taboo these days is holding to the absolute moral standards the Lord instituted in His Word. Lifestyles of promiscuity, debauchery, rebellion, and lawlessness aren’t merely tolerated—they’re celebrated. Selfishness, greed, and dishonesty are accepted and even expected.

And the standards for the family aren’t any better. Divorce is available on demand for any reason, or for no reason at all. Married women with children are encouraged to work outside the home. Entertainment, and television in particular, dominates home life. The genocide of unborn children is aggressively defended. Gender differences have been downplayed, suppressed, and—as much as possible—eliminated from public discussion. And homosexual marriage is aggressively promoted throughout the culture—to the point that anything less than celebrating it is viewed as bigotry.

In short, our society is waging an all-out war on the biblical standards for morality, and the family is one of the key battlegrounds.

Where Is the Church in All of This?

As the building block of society, the family needs to be protected and defended. But mere moral reform is not the solution for all that ails our secular society. This is not a rallying cry for Christians to be more aggressive in pursuing political action. Far too much of the church’s effort in recent years has been squandered trying to confront anti-family trends, such as abortion and homosexuality, through legislative efforts alone. Reform is no answer for a culture like ours. Redemption is what is needed, and that occurs at the individual, not societal, level. The church needs to get back to the real task to which we are called: evangelizing the lost. Only when multitudes of individuals in our society turn to Christ will society itself experience any significant transformation.

Meanwhile, Christian families have an obligation to plant shade trees for future generations of children. But, frankly, even in the church, the family’s condition looks pretty bleak.

Not that there aren’t positive signs. For nearly three decades there has been a tremendous preoccupation among evangelicals with the need to rescue the family. Christian bookstores are well-stocked with books on marriage and the family. Christian radio is also crowded with family-oriented programming. There is no shortage of Christian programs, seminars, and ministries devoted to the family and parenting.

Despite all the ink and air time such ministries have devoted to the subjects of parenting and the family, though, statistics still show that in general, Christian families are not in much better shape than the families of their non-Christian neighbors. Children from Christian families are not immune to the lure of drugs, gangs, promiscuous sex, and all the other evils plaguing the youth of today. By and large, Christian families are suffering from all the same woes as non-Christian families.

Something is clearly wrong.

Is It Biblical, or Just “Christian”?

Part of the problem is that many of the parenting and family programs being labeled “Christian” today are not truly Christian. Some are nothing more than secular behaviorism papered over with a religious veneer—an unholy amalgam of biblical-sounding expressions blended with humanistic psychology. Even some of the better Christian parenting programs focus far too much on relatively petty extrabiblical matters and not enough on the essential biblical principles. One book I consulted spent chapter after chapter on issues like how to make a chore list to hang on the refrigerator, how to organize your child’s schedule to limit television time, games to play in the car, and similar how-to advice. Such pragmatic concerns may have their place, but they don’t go to the heart of what Christian parents in a society like ours need to address. (That particular book actually had very little that was distinctively Christian, outside the author’s preface.)

Some Christian parenting programs seem to begin well but quickly move away from biblical principles and into other things. Those other things often receive more stress than more vital issues that are truly biblical. Parents who sign up for such programs demand detailed, heavily regimented programs or turnkey parenting systems that work right out of the box. So that is what the experts try to produce. The resulting lists of rules and how-tos quickly supersede the vital biblical principles. The lure in this direction is subtle but strong, and rare is the parenting guru who successfully avoids it.

What we desperately need is a return to the biblical principles of parenting. Christian parents don’t need new, shrink-wrapped programs; they need to apply and obey consistently the few simple principles that are clearly set forth for parents in God’s Word, such as these: Constantly teach your kids the truth of God’s Word (Deuteronomy 6:7). Discipline them when they do wrong (Proverbs 23:13–14). And don’t provoke them to anger (Colossians 3:21). Those few select principles alone, if consistently applied, would have a far greater positive impact for the typical struggling parent than hours of discussion about whether babies should be given pacifiers, or what age kids should be before they’re permitted to choose their own clothes, or dozens of similar issues that consume so much time in the typical parenting program.

Over the next few days, we’re going to closely examine those biblical parenting principles and others, and consider God’s design for the family, and how best to provide shade for your children by training them up “in the discipline and instruction of the Lord” (Ephesians 6:4).

Physicist Victor Stenger debates William Lane Craig: Does God Exist?

WINTERY KNIGHT

This debate took place on March 1, 2010 at Oregon State University.

In this debate, Victor Stenger does affirm his belief that the universe could be eternal in his second rebuttal (1:02:30), thus denying the standard Big Bang cosmology. He also denies the law of conservation of energy and asserts that something can come from nothing in his concluding speech (1:33:50). He also caused the audience to start laughing when he said that Jesus was not moral and supported slavery. There is almost no snark in this summary. Instead, I quoted Dr. Stenger verbatim in many places. I still think that it is very entertaining even without the snarky paraphrasing.

The debate includes 30 minutes of Q&A with the students.

Here is the MP3 file for the audio.

Here’s the video of the debate:

Dr. Craig’s opening speech:

  • The ontological argument
  • The contingency argument
  • The cosmological argument

Christ is both God and man

Possessing the Treasure

by Mike Ratliff

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. (John 1:1 NASB)

14 And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth. (John 1:14 NASB)

If we listen to some today it is as if the Incarnation of Christ was to show Man how to live in such a way that there would be no war, no hunger, no sickness and that the Earth be recovered back to the pristine state of Creation. Was this His mission? If you go to any secular book store either such as Barnes and Noble or even Amazon.com and browse the religious/theology section you will find a large number of books that attempt to blend Jesus Christ into all religions or even non-religious causes.
