Theologians and Perry Noble, a Perp Who Doesn’t Like the Police

Polemics Report

On April 30th, Perry Noble, pastor of SBC megachurch NewSpring Church, published a personal reflection in which he expressed his disappointment that Ben Carson will no longer be speaking at the upcoming Southern Baptist Pastors Conference.  In the course of his reflection, Noble decried the existence of “Theological Police” who display “Pharisaical arrogance”.  This “vocal minority,” according to Noble, unwisely demanded that a popular politician and Seventh Day Adventist[1] not speak at the Pastors Conference.  These “theological police,” it should be noted, are the same ones who decry the type of asinine contra-biblical statements often made by Perry Noble himself.  His most recent contribution to the realm of evangelical thought is loaded with them.

In his reflection, Noble wrote:

“No one on the planet had better theology than Jesus, and yet we do not see Him drawing theological lines in the sand and excluding people who do not believe just…

Mockers: They Have Been Warned
Here’s of run-down on some of the scoffing. Keep in mind that we can rejoice in this as it fulfills scripture: “Know this first of all, that in the last days mockers will come with their mocking, following after their own lusts, and saying, ‘Where is the promise of His coming? For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all continues just as it was from the beginning of creation.'”

The End of California?
Of course, there is nothing normal about the fourth year of the great drought: According to climate scientists, it may be the worst arid spell in 1,200 years. For all the fields that will go fallow, all the forests that will catch fire, all the wells that will come up dry, the lasting impact of this drought for the ages will be remembered, in the most exported term of California start-ups, as a disrupter.

If you deposit more than $10,000 in cash, your bank is required to file a form with the authorities reporting the transaction. But the law also makes it illegal to “structure” deposits — depositing cash in amounts under $10,000 to avoid triggering the reporting requirement. But aggressive enforcement of these laws can ensnare small business owners whose only crime is dealing in cash.

Major U.S. Retailers Are Closing More Than 6,000 Stores

Closed - Public DomainIf the U.S. economy really is improving, then why are big U.S. retailers permanently shutting down thousands of stores?  The “retail apocalypse” that I have written about so frequently appears to be accelerating.  As you will see below, major U.S. retailers have announced that they are closing more than 6,000 locations, but economic conditions in this country are still fairly stable.  So if this is happening already, what are things going to look like once the next recession strikes?  For a long time, I have been pointing to 2015 as a major “turning point” for the U.S. economy, and I still feel that way.  And since I started The Economic Collapse Blog at the end of 2009, I have never seen as many indications that we are headed into another major economic downturn as I do right now.  If retailers are closing this many stores already, what are our malls and shopping centers going to look like a few years from now? (Read More….)

According to a piece posted over at Berean Research, UK Green Party leader Natalie Bennett stated that her party would consider allowing polygamous marriages and civil partnerships. The Egyptian government ordered airstrikes against Islamic State targets in response. The terrorists shot dead the first group of captives. In a separate scene, they beheaded the second group on a beach in eastern Libya.

Why Supreme Court Greenlighting Gay Marriage Could Be The Best Thing For Traditional Marriage

If marriage equality wanted to build a more solid foundation for the future of their values, they would be upset at how many judges have overturned popular votes in so many states. They would also want the Supreme Court to show judicial restraint in Obergefell v. Hodges. But judicial restraint will likely be cast aside, those opposed to legal same-sex marriage will be galvanized, society will fall increasingly into sexual anarchy, and the narcissism currently at work will collapse under its own weight.

Pope Francis Calling For Global Wealth Redistribution To Stop Global Warming

Pope Francis is about to release his encyclical about global warming and is expected to advocate for cutting the fossil fuel use that he and others blame for temperature rises.

“And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet.” Revelation 16:13 (KJV)

EDITOR’S NOTE: If your perception of Pope Francis is of a sweet, little old man who likes to mumble prayers in Italian and kiss babies on the cheek, get that thought out of your head immediately. Pope Francis is a shrewd, savvy, highly-motivated political player who is throwing the full weight of the Vatican with it’s 1.3 billion followers behind a Marxist globalist agenda to usher in the New World Order. This pope is the game-changer who just may actually be the False Prophet mentioned in the book of Revelation. And is it any surprise that we see George Soros connected to the Pope’s push? Seriously.

A Vatican declaration authored by the Pontifical Academy of Sciences (PAS) and others who attended a meeting Tuesday on global warming. The document from participants of the meeting pushes for ditching market economies to fight global warming and environmental degradation.

“Fossil fuel exploitation has also taken a huge toll on human well being,” the PAS document reads.

“Market forces alone, bereft of ethical values, cannot solve the intertwined crises of poverty, exclusion, and the environment,” the document adds. “The move to a sustainable world will not be cost-free for all: the options we face are not ‘win-win.’”

pope-francis-calls-for-end-of-free-market-capitalism-stop-global-warming-united-nations-revelation-17-whore-babylon-woman-rides-beast

“Present economic systems have been accompanied by the development of unacceptable gaps between the rich and the poor,” the PAS writes, “the latter still lacking access to most of the scientific and technical benefits that we have developed in the industrial world.”

Like former Pope Benedict, Francis is expected to condemn fossil fuels and push for more “just” economic reforms.

We should be prepared to accept a reallocation of the benefits and burdens that accompany humanity’s activities both within nations and between nations,” according to the PAS document.

Pope Francis made headlines this week by promising to weigh in on the global warming debate, meeting with United Nations officials and scientists to discuss the issue and possible solutions to stemming global temperature rises and predicted ecological catastrophe.

Pope Francis and the George Soros connection

Judging by what participants of the Vatican’s climate meeting wrote, the Papacy could come out hard against market economies that utilize fossil fuels for development. But given the authors of the document, it shouldn’t be surprising.

One of the authors is economist Jeffrey Sachs who now heads up Columbia University’s Earth Institute. Sachs has been heavily backed by liberal philanthropist George Soros. Years ago, Soros donated $50 million to a project co-run by Sach’s nonprofit the Millennium Promise.

Experts predict robots will take over 30% of our jobs by 2025

Posted: 03 May 2015 06:36 AM PDT

There’s a BakeBot robot whipping up fresh cookies at MIT; hospitals are now employing medical robots to assist their doctors; and a robot named Baxter can beat any human at the popular logic game Connect Four, among many other tasks. “Historically what we thought was that robots would do things that were the three D’s: dangerous, dirty, and dull,” explains Ryan Calo, professor at University of Washington School of Law with an expertise in robotics. “Over time, the range of things that robots can do has extended.”

Their abilities will only continue to expand. Ray Kurzweil, director of engineering at Google, anticipates that by 2029 robots will have reached human levels of intelligence. Many people fear a jobless future — and their anxiety is not unwarranted: Gartner, an information technology research and advisory firm, predicts that one-third of jobs will be replaced by software, robots, and smart machines by 2025. Artificial intelligence and robots are not just challenging blue-collar jobs; they are starting to take over white-collar professions as well. Financial and sports reporters, online marketers, surgeons, anesthesiologists, and financial analysts are already in danger of being replaced by robots. FULL REPORT

Scientists warn of chemicals in pizza boxes and carpet care

Posted: 03 May 2015 06:28 AM PDT

A group of environmental scientists issued a warning Friday about commonly used chemicals known as PFASs. The chemicals, which go by the longer names of polyfluoroalkyl and perfluoroalkyl, are found in everything from pizza boxes to carpet treatments, reports the New York Times. “If you got a pastry with your coffee this morning, a PFAS substance probably even lined the waxy paper it was served on,” writes Lynne Peeples at the Huffington Post. (In the case of the pizza boxes, the chemicals help prevent the boxes from getting soaked by grease.)

The warning came May 1 in the journal Environmental Health Perspectives, whose coverage included a statement signed by 200 scientists from 38 countries urging restrictions. (It’s here, known as the Madrid Statement.) A previous type of PFAS, popularized by DuPont years ago in Teflon products, is no longer in use because of concerns the chemicals lingered in bodies and raised the risk of cancer. Texas Governor Deploys State Guard To Stave Off Obama Takeover

Posted: 03 May 2015 06:21 AM PDT

Since General Sam Houston executed his famous retreat to glory to defeat the superior forces of General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna, Texas has been ground zero for military training. We have so many military bases in the Lone Star State we could practically attack Russia. So when rookie Texas Gov. Greg Abbott announced he was ordering the Texas National Guard to monitor a Navy SEAL/Green Beret joint training exercise, which was taking place in Texas and several other states, everybody here looked up from their iPhones. What?

It seems there is concern among some folks that this so-called training maneuver is just a cover story. What’s really going on? President Obama is about to use Special Forces to put Texas under martial law. Let’s walk over by the fence where nobody can hear us, and I’ll tell you the story.

You see, there are these Wal-Marts in West Texas that supposedly closed for six months for “renovation.” That’s what they want you to believe. The truth is these Wal-Marts are going to be military guerrilla-warfare staging areas and FEMA processing camps for political prisoners. The prisoners are going to be transported by train cars that have already been equipped with shackles.

Don’t take my word for it. That comes directly from a Texas Ranger, who seems pretty plugged in, if you ask me. You and I both know President Obama has been waiting a long time for this, and now it’s happening. It’s a classic false flag operation. Don’t pay any attention the mainstream media; all they’re going to do is lie and attack everyone who’s trying to tell you the truth. FULL REPORT

Magnitude 3.9 earthquake strikes Los Angeles area

Posted: 03 May 2015 06:16 AM PDT

A 3.9-magnitude earthquake has been recorded in the Los Angeles area, the US Geological Survey reports. Though the quake was shallow, residents across the basin say they were woken up by the tremor. The shallow earthquake occurred just one mile from View Park-Windsor Hills, California, at 4:07 am on Sunday morning. The quake, which struck at a depth of 5.6 miles, was classified by the USGS as “light”. However, it was still felt over a wide area of the LA basin.

It was the second earthquake in less than a month along the Newport-Inglewood fault. A magnitude-3.5 quake hit the same area on April 12. The Los Angeles Fire Department briefly went into “earthquake mode.” As its helicopters surveyed more than 470 square miles in the area and all 106 fire stations conducted safety checks, the alert was lifted. The current seismic period is, however, a relatively calm one. With not many shocks reaching even magnitude 3 in recent months, because “far less” energy is being released in earthquakes than it is being stored from tectonic plate motions. FULL REPORT

Jonathan Cahn Warns: “A Nation At War Against Its Own Foundation”

Posted: 03 May 2015 06:10 AM PDT

Rabbi Jonathan Cahn, author of the New York Times bestseller, “The Harbinger” and the inspiration behind the “Isaiah 9:10 Judgment” movie, on Wednesday smacked down the Supreme Court’s assumption that it has the authority to redefine marriage. Cahn’s comments followed the hearing in the supreme court where the justices heard arguments on whether the U.S. government would mandate recognition of homosexual “marriage” across the country.

Or not. “The justices of the Supreme Court took up their seats on whether they should strike down the biblical and historic definition of marriage,” he said. “That the event should even take place is a sign this is America of [George] Washington’s warning … a nation at war against its own foundation.” Washington’s warning was the smiles of heaven can never be expected on a nation “that disregards the eternal rules of order and right which heaven itself hath ordained.” He noted the Supreme Court opens sessions with the words, “God save the United States and this honorable court.”

“If this court should overrule the word of God and strike down the eternal rules of order and right that heaven itself ordained, how then will God save it?” he asked. “Justices, can you judge the ways of God? There is another court and there another judge, where all men and all judges will give account. “If a nation’s high court should pass judgment on the Almighty, should you then be surprised God will pass judgment on the court and that nation? We are doing that which Israel did on the altars of Baal,” he said. “We are exchanging our light for darkness.” The comments came at the 2015 “Washington: A Man of Prayer” service at the U.S. Capitol, an event that was livestreamed online. Israel warns of terror attack threat against Jews in Tunisia

Posted: 03 May 2015 06:02 AM PDT

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel had learned of “concrete threats” of terror attacks against Jewish or Israeli targets in Tunisia. The Tunisian government quickly denied the claims, saying no such threats existed. A statement from Netanyahu’s office said: “Information indicates that there are plans for terrorist attacks against Israelis or Jews in Tunisia.”

But a senior official in the Tunisian interior ministry, who asked not to be named, told AFP: “We have nothing on that. There are no threats.” The threats are connected to the Lag BaOmer Jewish festival, which will be celebrated on May 7, Netanyahu’s statement said. It urged Jews not to visit Tunisia during the festival.

Thousands of pilgrims visit the tombs of famous rabbis for Lag BaOmer, including on Tunisia’s holiday island of Djerba, where one of the last Jewish communities in the Arab world still lives. Several thousand Jews from France and Israel make the trip to the island every year, where 19 people died in an attack on the ancient El Ghriba synagogue in 2002 blamed on Al-Qaeda.

The Israeli Counter-Terrorism Bureau said it was advising people against visiting Tunisia in view of the “threats”. The Tunisian interior ministry official insisted the police and army were ready to ensure security. FULL REPORT

North American Craton Displacement Underway

Southern Quebec Canada is reporting a 2.7 magnitude earthquake which was just added to the USGS feeds. In addition, Michigan has now experienced the largest earthquake in State history (since at least 1946). Measuring 4.2 magnitude, this rare event was felt across multiple states, including Indiana, Ohio, and North into Canada. The additional listed Quebec 2.7 magnitude earthquake is worthy to note in light of its location to the other events which transpired over the past 24 hours. This graphic below shows the past 24 hours of 2.5M+ earthquakes in the United States. No doubt the two equidistantly spaced earthquakes FLANKING each side of the Michigan 4.2M event are related to the overall craton edge movement.

We were expecting the area of Southern Quebec to show movement. It would appear this earthquake activity in Quebec hit as part of this 4.2M Michigan event Regardless of which order of events occurred, BOTH earthquakes reside upon the general “edge” of the North American Craton. In this graphic below, the past 7 days of Earthquake activity revels, undeniably, that the whole of the North American plate was displaced this past week (up to May 2, 2015 5pm CDT). Small radioactive leak detected at Japan’s Fukushima nuclear plant

Posted: 02 May 2015 07:24 PM PDT

A small quantity of radioactive water has leaked from a storage tank at Japan’s tsunami-crippled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant, Tokyo daily Asahi Shimbun reported Saturday. A worker at the facility, located in northeastern Japan, found a wet patch measuring 20 sq. centimeters (3 sq. inches) under a storage tank for radiation-contaminated water on Friday morning, Tokyo Electric Power Co. the plant’s operator, said. Seventy microsieverts per hour of beta-ray-emitting radioactivity, far exceeding the recommended maximum exposure of 0.11 microsieverts per hour, were detected on the surface where the water had leaked.

Workers placed sandbags around the tank to prevent the radioactive water from spreading to other areas, the newspaper said. The leak was detected on the same day that tests were launched in preparation for the eventual construction of a 1.5-kilometer-long (0.9-mile) frozen soil wall around the No. 1 to No. 4 reactor buildings, a project aimed at preventing further leaks of radioactive water into the sea. Biblical Expert: Russia Creating “End Times” Beast

Posted: 02 May 2015 05:50 PM PDT

The United States and Russia are engaged in a geopolitical contest over the Islamic Republic of Iran – but both sides are losing, according to documentary filmmaker and New York Times bestselling author Joel Richardson, who warns President Obama that Russian President Vladimir Putin may be empowering one of the great enemies of Israel predicted by the Bible. Richardson, author of the bestselling “The Islamic Antichrist: The Shocking Truth About the Real Nature of the Beast,” says the Iranians know better than almost anyone else how to take advantage of geopolitical competition. “The Iranian regime, unlike nearly any other nation, knows how to play the long game,” he said in an interview with WND. “For the past 30 years, they have been quietly and patiently extending their spidery fingers into various nations and governments throughout the earth, including Russia.”

The Iranian government has been skillfully balancing between the United States and Israel in recent months. The Pentagon recently confirmed Iran’s Revolutionary Guard intercepted a U.S.-flagged cargo ship before seizing a Marshall Islands ship, which was under U.S. protection. However, it has not stopped negotiations between the United States and Iran to secure an agreement on Iran’s nuclear program. Indeed, earlier this week, Secretary of State John Kerry claimed, “We are, in fact, closer than ever to the good comprehensive deal that we have been seeking, and if we can get there, the entire world will be safer.” FULL REPORT

U.S. Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito: If Homosexuals ‘Marry,’ Why Can’t Four Attorneys?

(CN) — During Tuesday’s oral arguments before the U.S. Supreme Court, Justice Samuel Alito questioned an attorney if multiple consenting adults should be allowed to “marry” if those of the same gender are granted the same recognition.

“Suppose we rule in your favor in this case and then after that, a group consisting of two men and two women apply for a marriage license. Would there be any ground for denying them a license?” he asked.

Hillary Clinton: ‘Religious Beliefs … Have to Be Changed’ Toward Abortion

(CN) — Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton spoke favorably about abortion, the contraceptive mandate in Obamacare and homosexuality during a speech at Thursday’s “Women in the World” summit in New York, stating that religious beliefs need to be changed over the issues.“Far too many women are denied access to reproductive health care and safe childbirth, and laws don’t count for much if they’re not enforced,” Clinton said. “Rights have to exist in practice—not just on paper.”

Bruce Jenner Talks Going ‘Transgender,’ Claims God Gave Him ‘the Soul of a Female’

(CN) — In an interview airing on ABC’s 20/20 Friday, former Olympic athlete Bruce Jenner told reporter Diane Sawyer that he believes God gave him “the soul of a female” but a male body so that he would have to work out his gender identity throughout his life.“I’ve tried to explain it this way [to my kids]: God’s looking down, making little Bruce. … He says, ‘Okay, what are we gonna do with this one? Make him a smart kid, very determined. … And then when He’s just finishing, He says, ‘Let’s wait a second,” he told Sawyer. “God looks down and chuckles a little bit, and says, ‘Hey, let’s give him the soul of a female and see how he does with that.’”

GoFundMe Shuts Down Fundraiser for Christian Bakers, Claims Money Was for ‘Illegal Purpose’

(CN) — The popular fundraising site GoFundMe shut down a fundraiser Friday night for a Christian couple that was ordered to pay $135,000 in “emotional damages” to two lesbians, stating that the fundraising effort was for “illegal purposes” because the bakery had been found guilty of “discrimination” for declining to make a cake for their ceremony due to their religious convictions.According to reports, a competitor of Sweet Cakes by Melissa, run by Aaron and Melissa Klein, contacted GoFundMe in seeking to stop the fundraiser, which had raised over $100,000 within a day before being shut down hours later.

Emormous ‘Plasma Snake’ Erupts From The Sun

    Posted: 02 May 2015 06:00 AM PDT

Over the course of April 28–29, a gigantic filament, briefly suspended above the surface* of the sun, broke off and created an enormous snakelike eruption of plasma that extended millions of miles out into space. The event was both powerful and beautiful, another demonstration of the incredible energy and activity of our home star… and it was all captured on camera by two of our finest Sun-watching spacecraft.

Made from data acquired by both NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) and the joint ESA/NASA SOHO spacecraft, the video was compiled by astronomer and sungrazing comet specialist Karl Battams. It shows views of the huge filament before and after detaching from the Sun, and gives a sense of the enormous scale of the event.

At one point the plasma eruption spanned a distance over 33 times farther than the Moon is from Earth! Filaments are long channels of solar material contained by magnetic fields that have risen up from within the Sun. They are relatively cooler than the visible face of the Sun behind them so they appear dark when silhouetted against it; when seen rising from the Sun’s limb they look bright and are called prominences. NORAD Returns to Cheyenne, Warns of EMP AttackPosted: 02 May 2015 05:55 AM PDT

The potential of a devastating attack to the US power grid by nuclear states such as North Korea or Iran has prompted the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) to return to its former location inside Cheyenne Mountain near Colorado Springs, Colorado, two former Reagan-era government officials write in The Wall Street Journal. “Why the return?” write Henry F. Cooper and Peter Vincent Pry. “Because the enormous bunker in the hollowed-out mountain, built to survive a Cold War-era nuclear conflict, can also resist an electromagnetic-pulse attack, or EMP.”

While the Pentagon is moving to shield its global air defense command from being knocked out by an electromagnetic pulse (EMP) attack, the Obama administration has failed to act on urgent recommendations to protect the country’s civilian electronic infrastructure from a similar catastrophe, they write. “An EMP strike, most likely from the detonation of a nuclear weapon in space, would destroy unprotected military and civilian electronics nationwide, blacking out the electric grid and other critical infrastructure for months or years,” Cooper and Pry write. “The staggering human cost of such a catastrophic attack is not difficult to imagine.” The likeliest source of such an attack would be North Korea or Iran, according to Cooper, former director of the Strategic Defense Initiative, launched by the late President Ronald Reagan, and Pry, executive director of the EMP Task Force on National and Homeland Security and a veteran of the Central Intelligence Agency. Is the internet on the brink of collapse?Posted: 02 May 2015 05:44 AM PDT

The internet is heading towards a ‘capacity crunch’ as it fails to keep up with our demand for ever faster data, scientists have warned. Leading engineers, physicists and telecoms firms have been summoned to a meeting at London’s Royal Society later this month, to discuss what can be done to avert a web crisis. The boom of internet television, streaming services and ever-more powerful computers has increased the strain on our communications infrastructure. The cables and fibre optics that send information to our laptops, smartphones and tablets will have reached their limit within eight years, experts warn.

So far, engineers have managed to keep ahead of demand, increasing internet speeds 50-fold in the last decade alone. In 2005, broadband internet had a maximum speed of 2 Megabits per second. Today 100Mb-per-second download speeds are available in many parts of the country. But experts warn that science has reached its limit – that fibre optics can take no more data. The result, according to Professor Andrew Ellis, who has co-organised the Royal Society meeting on May 11, will be higher internet bills. Professor Ellis, of Aston University in Birmingham, told the Daily Mail: ‘We are starting to reach the point in the research lab where we can’t get any more data into a single optical fibre. ‘The intensity is the same as if you were standing right up against the sun. ‘The deployment to market is about six to eight years behind the research lab – so within eight years that will be it, we can’t get any more data in. Israel Will Strike Iran First To Thwart Nuclear AttackPosted: 02 May 2015 05:30 AM PDT

Israel is not in a pleasant situation. Every day, her arch enemy Iran draws closer to refining enough uranium to build 100s of nuclear weapons. Every day the Iranian program becomes more difficult to dislodge – as the uranium is concentrated, the number of centrifuges required to complete the process decreases, allowing the remaining refining operation to be moved to smaller and more covert facilities. America, ostensibly Israel’s ally, is rumoured to have ordered US warships to shoot down Israeli aircraft, should a strike on Iran appear to be in progress. According to Israeli newspapers, President Obama thwarted a planned 2014 Israeli attack against Iranian nuclear facilities, by threatening to shoot down the Israeli bombers.

America is currently sending additional warships to the Persian Gulf – ostensibly to blockade Iranian supply runs to rebels in Yemen, but if rumours of President Obama’s threat against Israel are correct, perhaps also to reinforce US firepower, should Israel decide to mount an attack against Iran. There is no doubt an attack is on the drawing board – the Israeli Defence Force admitted they are training for an attack on Iran, in a recent interview with The Times of Israel. Iran may pose a grave existential threat to Israel – at least Israel believes they do and they appear to have good reasons for their concerns. According to an Israeli report written in 2008, Iran regularly state that Israel will shortly be wiped from the face of the Earth. Regardless of whether the Iranian threats are as bad as is claimed, or whether Iran actually means what they say, the Iranian nuclear programme will provide Iran with the means to fulfill this terrifying threat. Video Surfaces of Christians Singing ‘Who Makes Nations Tremble?’ at Moment Earthquake Rocked NepalPosted: 01 May 2015 08:31 PM PDT

A video has surfaced online of Christians singing about God making the nations tremble at the exact moment that the earthquake rocked the country on Monday.
Three young men had begun singing the hymn “Almighty, Unchangeable God” at a house church meeting.

“Who spread out the clouds before Him? Who fashioned the earth with His hands?” the men sang. “Who created the starry host and formed the earth at His command?” The congregation sat listening quietly. “Who scatters lightning before Him? Commands the rain and snow to fall?” “Who makes the nations tremble?” they sang.

At the exact moment the men sang the line, the room began to shake. “Earthquake,” one woman said calmly to the others, but her voice gaining urgency as she repeated the word. “Earthquake. Earthquake!” Second later, screams rang out as the room shook. The Christians called upon the name of the Lord. “Let’s pray!” one called out. “Lord, You are there!” another said. “Jesus! Jesus!” a third proclaimed. Within a minute, the ground stopped shaking and the people calmly moved outside. Major U.S. Retailers Are Closing More Than 6,000 StoresPosted: 01 May 2015 08:18 PM PDT

If the U.S. economy really is improving, then why are big U.S. retailers permanently shutting down thousands of stores?

The list below comes from information compiled by About.com, but I have only included major retailers that have announced plans to close at least 10 stores. Most of these closures will take place this year, but in some instances the closures are scheduled to be phased in over a number of years. As you can see, the number of stores that are being permanently shut down is absolutely staggering…MORE

Low-flying plane’s late night buzzings puzzle CO residentsPosted: 01 May 2015 08:12 PM PDT

large, low-flying plane has buzzed Durango several times this week after 11:30 p.m., but officials from nearby Air Force bases say they are not running any training missions in the Durango area. The plane, which has lights and propeller engines, has woken residents about 11:30 p.m. and 11:40 p.m. on Sunday and Wednesday, respectively. Some residents have reported hearing it other nights at 1 or 1:30 a.m. It has been seen traveling southeast over the Animas Valley and the city of Durango. The plane is not from Kirtland Air Force Base, in Albuquerque. The base does not send planes to train in Colorado or fly on Sundays, said Jim Fisher, a spokesman for the base.

But it is possible that a visiting military unit was flying in the area, he said. “It could be a whole host of different things,” he said. The base has also gotten complaints about aircraft in Northern Arizona, he said. The plane is also not coming from Cannon Air Force Base near Clovis in eastern New Mexico, said Major Mindy Yu. The base would seem like a logical home for the plane because military officials there train pilots to fly at low altitude in the mountains after dark to simulate Afghanistan terrain. Rubio: Nuclear Deal Will Result in Iran Bombing US CitiesPosted: 01 May 2015 05:30 PM PDT

Florida Senator Marco Rubio has followed up Senator Tom Cotton’s Iran baiting with a warning: the current deal with Iran on its nuclear program will result in war. Rubio said the current deal will prompt Israel to attack Iran. “I would argue that a bad deal almost guarantees war, because Israel is not going to abide by any deal that they believe puts them and their existence in danger,” he told the National Review Institute Ideas Summit. Rubio, who recently announced a bid for the presidency, said Iran will “exploit any loophole in a deal that it can find” and use the arrangement to attack the West.

“We’ll blow up a bomb in one of their cities. We’ll blow up their embassies in Latin America. We’ll kill Americans. We’re going to punish them — a stronger Iran,” he told conservative scholars and donors attending the summit. Earlier this week Tom Cotton tweeted a challenge to Iran’s foreign minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif. Cotton said he wants to debate “Iran’s record of tyranny, treachery and terror.” “Serious diplomacy, not macho personal smear, is what we need,” Zarif tweeted Thursday and congratulated the Arkansas senator on the birth of a new son. ON April 9, Cotton said he favors a military strike on Iran. “The United States military has amazing capabilities,” Cotton told USA Today. Greece braced for weekend of unrest as cash crunch nearsPosted: 01 May 2015 05:21 PM PDT

Greece was braced for the biggest weekend of civil unrest since its radical Left government assumed power, as tensions over the country’s future in the eurozone are set to reach breaking point in May. Athens was gripped by a throng of anti-austerity protests on Friday, to mark the Labour Day holiday across the continent. Several members of the ruling Syriza party, including embattled finance minister Yanis Varoufakis, took part in rallies, repeating they would not forsake their people and cower to the demands of creditors.

In a veiled barb aimed at his paymasters, a defiant Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras tweeted: “We will prevail in our struggles to bolster and protect our rights, our democracy and our dignity”Labour market reforms have emerged as one of the main stumbling blocks in Greece’s three-month bail-out impasse, as European powers have pushed the Leftist regime to reverse its promises to raise the minimum wage. But Greece’s Labour minister Panos Skourletis said the policy would go ahead, calling it a “deep and immovable red line” for the government. Nepal quake death toll at 6,260 as rescue effort, recovery continuesPosted: 01 May 2015 05:15 PM PDT

Fresh croissants emerged from a popular bakery and were quickly snapped up. Farmers delivered fresh produce and lines disappeared at gasoline stations. Slowly, life edged back toward a semblance of normal in Nepal’s quake-hit capital Friday as residents packed up tents and moved indoors. As rescue workers continued to comb the rubble in Kathmandu for survivors, the government said it was giving the equivalent of $1,000 to families of each victim killed in Saturday’s earthquake, and another $400 for funeral costs, according to state-run Nepal Radio.

The death toll from the mammoth quake climbed to 6,260, police said, including those who died in an avalanche on Mount Everest, plus more than 60 elsewhere in the region. The city got a lift Thursday when two survivors, including a 15-year-old boy, were rescued after being buried in debris for five days.

Although poorer sections of the city remained strewn with collapsed buildings, there were visibly fewer tents standing in a central part of Kathmandu that had been packed with people in the first few days after the magnitude-7.8 quake hit amid repeated aftershocks. Krishna Maharjan, a farmer on the outskirts, brought green onions and cauliflower on his bicycle into the city. Texas Ranger Drops Jade Helm Bombshell: “There Are Trains With Shackles On Them”

The reports about the coming Jade Helm 15 operation across the southwest continue to suggest that this is not merely a standard training exercise to prepare our military personnel for foreign engagements as has been suggested by officials.

“But when they shall lead you, and deliver you up, take no thought beforehand what ye shall speak, neither do ye premeditate: but whatsoever shall be given you in that hour, that speak ye: for it is not ye that speak, but the Holy Ghost.” Mark 13:11 (KJV)

A letter sent to Dave Hodges at The Common Sense Show by a concerned Texas Ranger indicates that the government is preparing for a scenario similar to what has been described in William Forstchen’s recent novella Day of Wrath in which ISIS terrorists cross the southern border of the United States and simultaneously attack soft targets across the nation.

But the letter doesn’t stop there. The Ranger, who has kept his identify private for obvious reasons and makes clear that the scope of Jade Helm is so secret that the intent is not completely clear, says that the JH15 mission objectives may go much farther than just preparing for terrorists. According to the law enforcement insider there are trains moving throughout Texas and some of them have been outfitted with shackles, presumably to “transport prisoners of some sort.” The claim adds further credence to a report about Jade Helm dissident roundups and arrests and widespread martial law declarations following an emergency.

    operation-jade-hel-15-boxcars-with-shackles-fema-camps-martial-law

His letter sheds some light on the Walmart store closings, suggesting at least one may be utilized in a national security capacity as a staging point for the Department of Homeland Security, an agency that is apparently not trusted by anyone within the Texas Rangers organization, according to the source.

    The full letter follows:

    Hello Mr. Hodges,

I have been a Texas Ranger for quite some time, and as such, I am privy to much of what is going on with regard to the Midland Walmart store closing, the presence of ISIS on Texas soil and our preparations to combat an insurgent threat.

I will not give you my rank or location because it would not be safe to do so. It is a waste of time to try and trace the IP#, etc., as I have taken steps to ensure that this note cannot be traced back to me.  I understand and  realize that you seem to have a growing issue with people who will not go on the record with their inside knowledge or first-hand observations, but you cannot understand the pressure and scrutiny that some of us are under. I am taking a big risk writing this email to you.

The main reason that I am writing to you is to encourage you to keep writing on the growing threat of infiltration in Texas and I suspect other states as well. The infiltration I am writing about is not just Special Forces that are going to conducting covert drills in our state. that is concerning and I agree with you this involves martial law.  For now I am talking about ISIS and the danger that they pose to all of us. Our intelligence indicates that they have enough manpower & firepower to subdue a small town. The Midland Walmart takeover by DHS is a national security move in which we have been told falls under the Continuity of Government provisions. The Threat Fusion Centers are providing related information on what it is we are facing but the information sharing is only in one direction and that is very concerning.

We expecting an attack on more than one Texas city or town by ISIS and/or any of their partners. I believe the information to be accurate. However, this makes the covert operations of groups like the Navy Seals and others under JH15 highly suspicious. We do not need the insertion of Special Ops into Texas towns and cities. I think that you are probably right about the intention of arresting political undesirables given what we know about JH15. I am of the opinion that whatever the mission objectives of JH15, they have nothing to do with the immediate threat. Therefore, I do not pretend to understand the full scope of JH 15 because there are unfolding operational details which are almost impossible to reconcile with what I already know to be fact based the evidence for what is going on.

Let me drop a bombshell that I have not seen you address. There are trains moving throughout Texas that have shackles inside some of the cars. I have not personally seen them, but I know personnel that have seen this. This indicates that these trains will be used to transport prisoners of some sort. I know from reading your articles that your default belief will be that these are for American political prisoners and will be transported to FEMA detention camps of some sort. We have been told by Homeland that these trains are slated for transporting captured terrorists, non-domestic. We are not sure we can trust this explanation because Homeland is keeping a lot from us and we are growing increasingly uncomfortable with their presence in Texas.

I wanted to tell also you that we believe that Pantex is a high value target for ISIS and much or our preparation is to thwart any action by terrorists against the facility.  I am wondering how in the hell you figured that out. Someone on the deep inside must be talking with you.

Keep writing Mr. Hodges, you and the underground media are making a difference. As I am sure you know, Colorado announced today that JH15 is suspended in that state. Unfortunately, we do not have that prerogative because we believe that we are under the threat of eminent attack here in Texas.

I do believe the ISIS threat is legitimate. But you are also correct to suspect the motives behind the JH15 drills. They are clouded in secrecy and we have been shut out regarding their operational intent. The people of Texas and all of the United States of America should be pushing back against JH15.

I will support the Feds in their preparation against ISIS. But the moment that this action turns against our locals is the moment I will perform my oath of office. I am not alone in this feeling. None of my brothers trust Homeland. We will have to see where this is going but I have a bad feeling.

You do your job and keep writing and I will do my job in upholding the Constitution

    Thank You

The suspicions of the public are quite justified, it seems. The operational commanders for Jade Helm have compartmentalized the “exercise” to such an extent that no one, not the local and state law enforcement officers involved or the majority of military personnel, has any idea what is actually going on.

As noted in the letter, a realistic threat from our southern border certainly exists and as we’ve written previously, Border Patrol and Homeland Security have been capturing suspected terrorist operatives crossing into the United States for years. But the Texas Ranger who penned the letter says this is not necessarily the full scope of the massive Summer exercise.

And given that people within his own organization report seeing shackles in trains, is it completely out of the question to suggest that the government does, in fact, have procedures in place to detain, transport and imprison those suspected of terrorism, or those who may be suspected of being suspected?

When Gerald Celente warned of the Auschwitz Express back in a 2012 interview he wasn’t joking:

First it was the Patriot Act. Now it’s the National Defense Authorization Act. And then it was Obama’s Executive Order giving El Presidente Los Estados Unidos the supreme right to call Martial Law at a potential threat – a potential threat.

Then there’s Big Bro over there, Attorney General Eric Holder, who just passed these guidelines that could let them listen in to what we’re saying right now, listen to you on your cell phone, watch every stroke of your keyboard, and they at the White House could then determine whether or not the algorithms add up to you being a terrorist or a potential terrorist. source

“My Last Day” — the Jesus Anime

9 powerful minutes of animation that begins with a thief behind bars watching the scourging of Jesus, and it ends with the thief dying next to Jesus, and waking to see Him in a beautiful place.

The dying thief: What was so great about his faith?

There are many acts of extraordinary faith in the Bible. The one that has impressed me the most concerns the dying thief on the cross. We could take the approach that he had nothing to lose, so he decided to cast his lot with Jesus. But this makes absolutely no sense of the text and the context.
In this conversion we have a specific fulfillment of Christ’s first words on the cross. No sooner had Christ spoken the words, “Father, forgive them,” had the Father answered that prayer by turning a once-reviling criminal into a Christ-glorifying saint. While the soon-to-be converted criminal was not directly responsible for Christ’s death, he nevertheless joined with those who were and was thus indirectly addressed when Christ asked for God to forgive “them.”
Christ, the sinless one, was numbered with or counted among the transgressors (Isa. 53:12; Luke 22:37), all of whom have a bigger problem than the day-to-day sins they commit. They hate Christ, the God-man. Anyone who has a master other than the Lord Jesus hates him (Lk. 16:13; Gal. 4:8). That these two criminals loathed him is clearly manifested during the crucifixion: “And the robbers who were crucified with him also reviled him in the same way” (Matt. 27:44).
When the criminal who was converted was doing his worst against Christ, Christ was doing his best for this criminal.
The conversion of the one criminal was most extraordinary and testifies to the power of Christ’s prayer and the grace of God. Why?
This criminal’s faith did not come at a time such as when Christ turned water into wine; or performed miracles, such as walking on water, opening the eyes of a blind man, or raising Lazarus from the dead. No! The criminal believed on the Messiah while he was hanging as one cursed upon a tree. The criminal trusted in and boldly defended the one whose disciples had abandoned him. Jesus was at his lowest when this criminal asked to be remembered in Christ’s kingdom.
When he was on the cross, did anyone publicly cry out, as John the Baptist did, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!” (Jn. 1:29)? But this is essentially what the dying thief did. Little wonder, then, that Christ should promise him a place in his kingdom: “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise” (Lk. 23:43).
The criminal acknowledged he was guilty; he acknowledged that Christ was not (“this man has done nothing wrong”); he feared God; but, and here is the key: the criminal did not merely want to be in a better place. He wanted to be with Christ in a better place: “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom” (Lk. 23:42). The criminal believed “against all hope”.
Heaven is a better place because that is where Christ is. Everyone wants to go to heaven, but not everyone wants to go to Christ’s heaven. Not so with this criminal: he saw, with his eyes, Christ at his worst; but with the eyes of faith, he believed that Christ would soon be at his best, and so put his faith in a dying king.
Christ is always – always! – willing to save even the most miserable of sinners. A recognition of guilt (Lk. 23:40) and a confidence in him and not ourselves (Lk. 23:42) will always lead to the most assuring truth a sinner can receive: the Savior welcomes such into his paradise!
“One is saved, and we may not despair; the other is lost, and we may not presume.” Spurgeon

Why Do Christians Worship on Sunday and Not Saturday?

They had made the change because it was on the first day of the week that Jesus Christ forever set that day apart from all the others by rising from the dead. From that point onwards Sunday became a memorial to the turning point in the history of redemption. The Sabbath day from the beginning was the Seventh Day, and hearkened back to the Creation. The original Sabbath pointed to God’s creating work, but the Christian Sabbath points us to God’s redeeming work. It marks the great transition in the bible from redemption promised to redemption accomplished.

John Stonestreet on Restoration and Hope

I feel like a lot of people who want to hold these, orthodoxy and orthopraxy, but they don’t realize the implications of orthodoxy for orthopraxy. It’s like these are two independently settled categories that we can think about separately. You’ve got to think about them together. … You say, “I’m in this cultural moment, what does this truth demand of me?”

Hymns We Should Sing More Often: Hallelujah, Praise Jehovah, O My Soul

Psalm 146, from which this hymn, Hallelujah, Praise Jehovah, O My Soul, is taken, highlights the delightful and hopeful side of spiritual experience: God is to be praised because he is utterly trustworthy, faithful, powerful, compassionate, and just. The psalm begins and ends with “Hallelu Yah!” “Praise Jehovah!” The main body of the psalm encourages us to fully trust the Lord as almighty Creator, deliverer of the oppressed, provider for the needy, and protector of the weak.

Under God: A Review of One Nation Under God: How Corporate America Invented Christian America

If you say that the particular forms of “Christian nationalism” date from the 1950s, fine – as Kruse says, the “ceremonies and slogans.” But to say, as Lehmann suggests, that the underlying ideology was novel in that era is absurd. To appreciate that, think about the inconceivably vast literature over the previous two hundred years about God’s special plans for America; about the religious destinies of the new nation; about the competing theories of divine support in the Civil War; and so many other themes of election and divine providence.

Leaving Home: The Future of the Faith in England

In the last 40 years, what has happened instead, is that the Church of England turned its back on the Spirit and the Scriptures and gave herself to the new secularism. It has preferred egalitarianism to evangelism; it has chosen the struggle for gender parity to the struggle for the Gospel purity.

On the Value of Being Older

by Bill Muehlenberg

OK, a public disclosure is required here before moving on: I am an old guy. So of course I will defend being old, you might think. And perhaps you are right. But there is more to this than just my own increase in years. The Bible speaks much about the value of those who are older.

The simple truth is, with age comes experience, wisdom, maturity, and so on. Or at least that is how it is supposed to go. The young simply lack so much of this. Scripture has much to say about the elderly and their role. Just a few verses can be offered here:

Smearing Sexual Orientation Change

The point, which she apparently missed, is that Jesus extrapolated his position about limiting the number of partners in a sexual union to two based on the twoness of the sexes, “male and female,” which in turn establishes a male-female prerequisite as foundational. Jesus regarded the Genesis creation texts as essential for defining sexual ethics, which texts also depict man and woman as the two parts comprising a sexual whole.

Remembering the Armenians

by Bill Muehlenberg

One hundred years ago a horrific massacre of non-Muslim minorities was launched by Ottoman Turks. More specifically, on April 24 1915, the Ottoman authorities began their program of mass annihilation of the largely Christian Armenian, Assyrian and Greek populations.

It took place over several decades and witnessed the wholesale persecution, torture, rape and murder of at least one and a half million Armenians and others. Barnbabas Fund, which works on behalf of the persecuted church, offers this overview:

Justification is not the result of sanctification.”

Why Is A Central Prayer Gathering In A Church So Important?

“People say prayer changes things but the truth is it doesn’t. God changes things. We live in dependence on a loving heavenly father ‘in him we live and move and have our being’ and that, as a congregation, humbles us. A congregation that makes a priority of praying together can never be proud.”

2 Chronicles 7:14 in Context

by Bill Muehlenberg

One of the most famous and most often recited passages from the Old Testament is 2 Chronicles 7:14. Most Christians know it well and mention it often. It says: “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”

Plenty of believers apply this passage to the situation they find themselves in today. This can be appropriate if done carefully, and done with the context in mind. And that general context is the issue of obedience. The more immediate context is the building of the temple by Solomon (see 2 Chr. 2-5), followed by his prayer of dedication (ch. 6).

Cold Case Christianity: Seven Tips for Good Christian Case Making Conversations (Free Bible Insert)

As an investigator, I made a living conducting interviews. In fact, my agency repeatedly utilized me when they needed someone to confess to a crime. I love talking to people, particularly when the conversation is difficult to navigate. Spiritual conversations can also be difficult on occasion, and if you’ve ever tried to talk to your unbelieving friends or family, you know exactly what I’m talking about. Let me share seven things I’ve learned in over twenty-five years of interviewing. These tips were field tested in suspect interviews and jury presentations. They have direct application if you are trying to determine what people believe so you can share the truth of your Christian beliefs:

Articles of the Week

Reflections from the Supreme Court Sidewalk, Russell Moore. A landmark case is currently being heard in the Supreme Court, the result of which may redefine marriage (to include two people of the same sex). What happens inside the court is immensely important, and will shape American life for many years to come. But as important as all the legal issues are surrounding same-sex marriage, other issues matter more—namely, our attitude toward those with whom we strongly disagree. As Moore says, “We must enough have confidence in our gospel to stand with kindness toward those who disagree with us.”

Hyper-Headship and the Scandal of Domestic Abuse in the Church, Justin Taylor & Jason Meyer. It is a sad truth that many, many women in our churches feel trapped in abusive situations because they need to “respect their husbands.” On the flip side, far too many men twist the idea of male headship into an excuse to exercise dominance and control. We need more voices like that of Meyer, pointing out that not only is this dangerous and harmful, it’s also theologically bankrupt.

How Many Children Should I Have? Amanda Peacock. When it comes to having kids, American Christians tend to “bear more fruit” than most of our non-Christian counterparts (Most…Muslims, for instance, exceed us still). But if you’re married, how many children is really enough to be faithful? Scripture paints a “full quiver” as a blessing, but exactly how many kids makes for a full quiver? Peacock offers several helpful considerations.

Fifty Bible People Confirmed By Recent Archaeology, Lawrence Mykytiuk. Even for me (Chris), this is a bit on the nerdy side. Don’t expect to read through this entire article unless you’re an Old Testament scholar (or, I guess, an archaeologist?). But it’s pretty fascinating to see how many OT names have been verified by extra-biblical inscriptions. Tuck this one away for your church’s next Bible trivia night.

The Most Important Step In Becoming More Like Jesus Christ

Mark Altrogge:

We become like the One we behold in the Word. As we see him stretch out his hand in compassion to heal a leper, we see how we should be compassionate. When we see Jesus have mercy on the woman caught in adultery, we grow in mercy. As we observe Jesus resist the temptations of Satan to love the world, we learn to love the Lord our God as he did. As we gaze on Jesus hanging on the cross, and not revile his enemies but say, “Father, forgive them for they know not what they do,” we learn to trust our heavenly father and forgive our enemies.

“I felt a hypocrite”

The National Post interviews Michael Coren on leaving Catholicism for (liberal) Anglicanism.

Dividends and Drawbacks of Small Groups

Nick Batzig:

During the first five years of church planting, we had one collective mid-week meeting at someone’s home. But as the church grew, the mid-week waxed and waned. One of the biggest mistakes I made was not moving to a small group structure when we were averaging 50-60 people in our worship services. Years ago, my pastoral assistant said to me, “For the church to get bigger it needs to get smaller.” Considering the fact that 75-80% of the people in a church will likely commit–to some degree or another–to a small group, we could have easily had 3 small groups 5 years. We missed the boat, so to speak.

What does it mean to be ‘inclusive’ like Jesus?

Derek Rishmawy:

Whether it’s the dynamics underlying much of the racial tensions built up and released in our cities, or the heated theological discourse on sexuality, we need to come to grips with the realities of inclusion and exclusion. Which is why I decided to recently revisit Miroslav Volf’s justly famous meditation on the subject Exclusion & Embrace: A Theological Exploration of Identity, Otherness, and Reconciliation. It’s a fascinating theological account of the issues of forgiveness, truth, justice, and, yes, exclusions that gains a particular poignancy set in the context of his wrestling with the exclusionary violence that destroyed his own home in the Balkans.

66 Shocking Clickbait Bible Headlines You Won’t Believe

Aaron Earls:

Clickbait headlines are the bane of social media, so I greatly appreciated the chance to mock them with the #ClickbaitBooks hashtag on Twitter. I made Buzzfeed style headlines for The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, The Lord of the Rings, 1984, and Where the Wild Things Are.

I knew I had to do clickbait for the books of the Bible. There’s no better way to show the absurdity of those headlines than by pairing them with something so polar opposite—Scripture.

Letter to the Editor: Prospective Presidential Candidate Scott Walker Gives Jesus Calling Big Boost in Sales

Dear Lighthouse Trails: I have a short note on an article I saw on The Blaze. Prospective presidential candidate Scott Walker mentioned the book Jesus Calling by Sarah Young during an interview pushing up sales of the book.

The gospel is better than amnesty

Good paintings tell stories.

Think of the Last Supper by Leonardo da Vinci. It tells the story of Jesus and his disciples sitting down for the final meal before the crucifixion. Jesus would drink the Passover cup before being sacrificed as the Passover lamb.

The good news of Jesus is more than a story. But it’s not less. It is the most important story on the planet. And it is the truest of true stories. Many have attempted to paint pictures that rightly tell the story of the gospel. Sometimes these paintings are painted with words, instead of paint and a canvas.

These gospel paintings are often necessary because the gospel must be explained. It is a message made up of propositional truth. That means it must be understood. John Piper writes, “the gospel is not only news. It is first news, and then it is doctrine. Doctrine means teaching, explaining, clarifying. Doctrine is part of the gospel because news can’t be just declared by the mouth of a herald—it has to be understood in the mind of the hearer” (Piper, God is the Gospel, 21).

In order for hearer’s to understand the gospel, a number of different word pictures have been painted. Some compare the gospel to paying your speeding ticket, or serving your prison sentence. Like creation itself, the word-pictures available are gloriously endless.

One such picture is that of amnesty. The good news of Jesus is compared to a government, possibly a king, declaring amnesty to those who have committed a crime against the state. The question is whether or not the picture of amnesty is the best picture to paint.

Words of Comfort: Lighthouses

A lighthouse keeper gained a reputation as being a very kind man. He would give free fuel to ships that miscalculated the amount of fuel needed to reach their destination port. One night during a storm, lightning struck his lighthouse and put out his light. He immediately turned on his generator, but it soon ran out of fuel, and he had given his reserves to passing ships. During the dark night, a ship struck the rocks and many lives were lost. At his trial, the judge knew of the lighthouse keeper’s reputation as a kind man and wept as he gave sentence. He accused the lighthouse keeper of neglecting his primary responsibility—to keep the light shining.

The Church can so often get caught up in legitimate acts of kindness—standing for political righteousness, feeding the hungry, etc.—but our primary task is to warn sinners of danger. We are to keep the light of the gospel shining so that sinners can avoid the jagged-edged rocks of wrath and escape being eternally damned. From, The Evidence Bible

  • Interesting, in prepping to preach Ephesians 1:13 about being sealed with the Holy Spirit, to find Lloyd-Jones held that sealing was equivalent to baptism, and was a post-conversion experience. Even more interesting to realize that his reasons and conclusions were very like Sandemanianism (Dallas doctrine/no-lordship/gutless grace). Listen to the sermon here.

Gagnon on Arsenokoites: The Bible on Abusive vs. “Committed” Same-Sex Relationships

God and the Gay ChristianAs the Supreme Court has recently heard arguments regarding a federal mandate that would legalize homosexual “marriage,” it’s important for the church to be equipped to defend their position from Scripture. True Christians are not against gay “marriage” because we are mean-spirited, bigoted misanthropes who love to force our opinions on others. We are against gay “marriage” because God Himself is against it, and He has told us so in His Word, the God-breathed Scriptures (2 Tim 3:16–17). Scripture tells us that to embrace homosexuality as spiritually permissible is to commit (or help others to commit) eternal suicide. And no one who truly loves homosexuals would ever be a part of that.

Because God has spoken on this issue, it falls to the church to herald His Word on the matter. Passages like 1 Corinthians 6:9 and 1 Timothy 1:10 are clear:

  • 1 Corinthians 6:9–10 – Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God.
  • 1 Timothy 1:9–11 – realizing the fact that law is not made for a righteous person, but for those who are lawless and rebellious, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers and immoral men and homosexuals and kidnappers and liars and perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to sound teaching, according to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, with which I have been entrusted.

However, those who would argue that homosexuality and Christianity are not mutually exclusive argue that these clear passages have been mistranslated. The word translated “homosexuals” in each of these verses is arsenokoitēs, and, the argument goes, that original Greek word doesn’t refer to “committed same-sex relationships” but “abusive male-male” relationships. Such an argument has been widely popularized by author John Boswell, whose arguments, though refuted by Robert A. J. Gagnon, are constantly marshaled by liberals as evidence of the compatibility between homosexuality and Christianity.

The Daily Discovery (May 2-3, 2015)

Audio of Mark Driscoll’s Speech at Thrive 2015 Leadership Conference – “Wenatchee the Hatchet has commented on the irony of Driscoll’s reference to the “struck shepherd.”  Driscoll identifies the conflict as being an 8 year conflict that recently went public. He must be referring to the 2007 firing of Petry and Meyers.  See related posts on his speech there, audience reaction, and a former Mars Hill attender reaction to it.”

The Unbreakable Mark Driscoll – “Towards the end of his ministry at Mars Hill, Driscoll was publishing books available for sale and preaching sermons series based upon the themes of these books. In effect, he was using the pulpit of his church to promote his books.”

Perry Noble Sharply Rebukes SBC for Disinviting Ben Carson – “Last week, we gave our concerns with having Seventh Day Adventist, Dr. Ben Carson, speak at the 2015 Pastor’s Conference. We echoed the rightful concerns first articulated at Baptist Twenty-One.”

Theologians and Perry Noble, a Perp Who Doesn’t Like the Police – “On April 30th, Perry Noble, pastor of SBC megachurch NewSpring Church, published a personal reflection in which he expressed his disappointment that Ben Carson will no longer be speaking at the upcoming Southern Baptist Convention Pastors Conference. In the course of his reflection, Noble decried the existence of “theological police” who display ‘pharisaical arrogance’.”

Fire Desired – “Oh! I have heard a man preach a sermon to which an angel might have listened for its faultless truthfulness, but it lacked fire; but I have known another whose ministry was faulty in many respects, rough were his words; the Gospel which he preached was not a full-orbed gospel, but yet he spoke like a man who meant what he said, with his heart boiling over at his eyes, with his soul rolling out of his mouth in one tremendous cataract, and men were moved, and the masses flocked, and thousands listened, and souls were saved because the man was in earnest.”

Is There Evidence For A Literal Adam And Eve?

Does Justice Really Exist?

“If you alter or obscure the Biblical portrait of God in order to attract converts, you don’t get converts to God, you get converts to an illusion. This is not evangelism but deception.” – John Piper

No Rapture In The Gospels?

Q&A-chalkboard

Q.  I pray for the pretrib rapture but prepare for the prewrath rapture. But recently, I just came across an understanding that I hadn’t seen before. The mystery of the harpazo hadn’t been given to the church until about 55 AD by Paul in 1 Corinthians 15. Matthew 24 was a description of Jesus’s Second Coming written many years before Paul’s letters to the Corinthians. So Paul describing what was to happen in the twinkling of an eye as a mystery suggests this was never taught before, even by Jesus. I’m encouraged about the pretrib harpazo. What’s your take on this?

Jade Helm Rumors

Q&A-chalkboard

Q.  The Internet is abuzz with Jade Helm rumors, US military exercises all over the SW and Ca. Some claim it is to round up American resistors, others to fight ISIS at our borders. Is there anything prophetic about this other than the wars and rumors of wars scenario?  Frankly, the lies in the news just makes me sick but I don’t want to have a head in the ground mentality either.

Still Undecided About The Rapture

Q&A-chalkboard

Q.  One day I believe the pretrib rapture argument is sound, the next day I don’t. So, let’s get down to the basics. What difference does it make what I believe about the timing of the rapture? I know it’s going to happen but scripture, as I read it, does not define for certain its timing. If I don’t believe in the pretrib rapture and it happens that way, does that disqualify me from being raptured with those who believe it? Does my doubt about the timing make me unworthy to escape that what is coming upon the whole world?

Must We Believe In A Literal 2nd Coming?

Q&A-chalkboard

Q.  Re: 2 John 1:7.  It is apparent if you read this literally it means any one who denies either the incarnation or the literal bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ is a deceiver who has the spirit of the  antichrist instead of  the Holy Spirit. No confusion on that. My question is where does this leave those who deny a literal physical second coming.

Are People Leaving Christianity In Droves?

Q&A-chalkboard

Q.  I read an article, in which the following was written: “People are leaving Christianity in droves. About 106 million Christians are expected to switch affiliation from 2010 to 2050 while only about 40 million people are expected to enter Christianity. The religiously unaffiliated (atheists, agnostics) are expected to see the largest net gains from switching, adding more than 61 million followers”.   What do you think of reports like this?

Receive vs. Fall Upon

Q&A-chalkboard

Q. In Acts 8:14-17, we read that the Word of God had been received in Samaria and they had been baptized in the Lord’s name but the Holy Spirit had not come upon them until John and Peter came to them and laid hands on them. Since God’s Word cannot contradict itself, what does this mean in light of passages like Ephesians 1:13-14 where we are told we are sealed with the Holy Spirit the moment we believe? I have looked at the context of this passage with regard to Simon the magician and the rest of the Samaritians, but I still feel a bit confused. It’s such an extraordinary passage and puts light on seeking the Lord for the wrong reasons and having a wrong heart. Is this the reason for the delay in the Holy Spirit?

Do You Loathe and Hate Sin?

One sure sign of salvation, and one sure sign of progression in sanctification, is a hatred of sin. This is not only a hatred of sin’s consequences, but a hatred of sin as it is—rebellion against a just and holy God. Here is Richard Sibbes on a true hatred of sin.

If we would make it evident that our conversion is sound we must loathe and hate sin from the heart; now a man shall know his hatred of evil to be true, first if it be universal. He that hates sin truly hates all sin.

Secondly, where there is true hatred it is fixed; there is no appeasing it, but by abolishing the thing it hates.

Thirdly, hatred is a more rooted affection than anger; anger may be appeased, but hatred is against the whole kind.

Fourthly, if our hatred be true, we hate all evil in ourselves first, and then in others. He that hates a toad would hate it most in his own bosom. Many like Judah are severe in censuring others but are partial to themselves (Genesis 38:24).

Fifthly, he that hates sin truly, hates the greatest sin in the greatest measure; he hates all evil in a just proportion.

Sixthly, our hatred is right if we can endure admonition and reproof for sin and not be enraged with him that tells us of it; therefore those that swell against reproof, hate not sin; only with this caution, it may be done with such indiscretion and self-love that a man may hate the reprover’s proud manner. In disclosing our hatred of sin in others, we must consider our calling; it must be done in a sweet temper, reserving due respect to those to whom reproof is offered, that it may be done out of true zeal, and not out of anger nor pride.

A popular reason why people leave Christianity: disappointment with God

WINTERY KNIGHT

Part 2 of a brilliant series by Bradley Wright. This time he explains how people leave Christianity because they expect God to meet their needs and he doesn’t.

Excerpt:

In a study of religious deconversion, we analyzed 50 on-line testimonies posted by former Christians, and in these testimonies we found four general explanations for deconversion. The first explanation, which I wrote about last week, regarded intellectual and theological concerns about the Christian faith. The second, which I elaborate here, regards a failed relationship with God. Almost half (22 of 50) of the writers expressed sentiments that in some way God had failed them by His not doing what they thought He should.

God’s perceived failure took various forms, most of which fall under the general heading of “unanswered prayers.”

One way that people felt that God had failed them happened when He did not respond to requests for help during…

Diligence

The Reformed Reader

The Christian's Reasonable Service, 4 VolumesIt is biblical to say that Christians are called to follow Jesus and live the Christian life with diligence.  I appreciate how Dutch theologian Wilhelmus a Brakel (d. 1711) explained this:

“God has granted man a soul and a body, as well as the ability to be occupied and to glorify him with both.  …After the fall it is also God’s will that man be occupied, and he appoints every man to his labor (1 Cor. 7:20).  God wills that man not only perform his calling, but that he do so diligently.”

Brakel then talks about OT and NT words for diligence, and explains them like this: “This is expressive of dealing with a matter with utmost care and prudence for the purpose of assuring that the project might be executed and turn out well (Acts 18:25, Eph. 5:15, Luke 15:8, Rom. 12:8, etc.).”

“Diligence is the exertion of the…
