Today is the National Day of Prayer.

In 1775, on the eve of Revolution, the First Continental Congress called for “a day of publick humiliation, fasting, and prayer.” Indeed, our Founders saw a national day of prayer as a fitting observance.

In 1952, Congress established the National Day of Prayer as an annual event by a joint resolution, signed into law by President Harry Truman. The NDP designation (36 U.S.C. § 119) calls for the nation “to turn to God in prayer and meditation.”

Prayer is Almighty God’s prerequisite for true hope and change, and our nation needs an abundance of both right now. The Patriot Post’s National Advisory Board and staff invite you to join us, and millions of our countrymen, in prayer for our nation today at 12:00 local time.


Court Says NSA Record Collection Exceeded Patriot Act Authority

In a win for opponents of the National Security Agency’s massive telephone metadata collection efforts, the Second Circuit Court of Appeals ruled Wednesday the program is not authorized by the Patriot Act. The three-judge panel did not, however, go so far as to declare it unconstitutional. As The Wall Street Journal reports, “The NSA has used the Patriot Act to justify collecting records of nearly every call made in the U.S. and entering them into a database to search for possible contacts among terrorism suspects.” It’s an attempt to collect all the hay, make a stack and then look for needles. But the judges didn’t order a stop to the collection because Section 215 of the Patriot Act, which the NSA specifically cited for its authority, is due to expire on June 1 and is currently under debate in Congress. The House Judiciary Committee has already passed a bill ending the bulk collection in favor of requiring case-by-case consideration.

As we wrote two years ago, the issue with bulk collection is one of trust. Obama’s tenure in the White House has been plagued with scandals — political targeting at the IRS and the EPA, wiretapping of news outlets, the Benghazi cover-up, VA wait lists and Fast and Furious — all of which makes this data collection for a war he doesn’t even want to fight unsettling.

Obama’s Bold New Idea: How About a Missile Defense System?

A few weeks ago, Barack Obama was announcing the rough draft of a nuclear agreement with Iran. It was supposed to prevent, or at least give the West and its Middle Eastern allies warning of, a nuclear breakout from Iran. In the coming week, it appears that Obama’s helping countries belonging to the Gulf Cooperation Council run for the bunkers. CNN reports that the Obama administration will bring up the idea of creating a ballistic missile defense system that would protect the countries from Kuwait, Saudi Arabia to Oman — just in case Iran ever develops a nuclear warhead or two.

The Obama administration’s policy has been to generally discourage the development of missile defense systems. In 2001, the then-State Senator Obama said, “I don’t agree with a missile defense system.” In 2009, his administration traded a missile defense system that protected Poland and the Czech Republic against an Iranian missile attack for an assurance by Russia that it would discourage Iran’s nuclear program. (“Reset!”) It was around this time that former Joint Chiefs of Staff Adm. Michael Mullen announced Iran had enriched enough uranium to fabricate a nuclear warhead. But in April, Russia approved an $800 million sale of its S-300 missiles to Iran, undercutting the West’s ability to knock out the Islamic Republic’s nuclear production facilities in the event it did achieve breakout.

If Obama were serious, he would bolster missile defense in the U.S. and Europe. In February, Iran successfully launched a missile that put a satellite into orbit, which prompted Rep. Mike Rogers (R-AL) to say, “While rogue states like Iran develop sophisticated ballistic missile systems and space satellite programs, President Obama continues to turn his back on any type of long-term strategy for our military and national defense.”

NYPD Mourns Fallen Officer

The New York Police Department is mourning another fallen officer. Brian Moore, 25 and white, died three days after being shot in the face by Demetrius Blackwell, who is black. (According to Investor’s Business Daily, “FBI crime data over the past decade show that African-Americans commit a disproportionately high 40% of all cop-killings — more than three times their representation in the population.”) The reason in Blackwell’s case? Moore and his partner were in their unmarked vehicle when they asked Blackwell if he had a gun in his waistband. Instead of answering, Blackwell drew the stolen firearm and fired on the two, mortally wounding Moore and wounding his partner. The funeral will be Friday. “Officer Moore put his life on the line in order to protect his fellow New Yorkers, and our state is a better place because of him,” Gov. Andrew Cuomo said in a statement. “Like so many of his brothers and sisters in uniform, Officer Moore served with selflessness and courage, and he will be greatly missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.” Yet this 25-year-old won’t receive the level of attention Freddie Gray, also 25, has. The reason is simple: Gray’s death after an injury while in police custody fits a narrative; Moore’s does not.

Who’s Up for Federalizing Police?

If you like the federal government picking your insurance plan, targeting your free speech via the IRS, feeling you up at the airport and planning your kids’ lunch menu, you’ll love its taking over your local police department.

The “Reverend” Al Sharpton recently called for such a takeover, saying in reference to the Baltimore riots, “We need the Justice Department to step in and take over policing in this country. In the 20th century, they had to fight states’ rights to get the right to vote. We’re going to have to fight states’ rights in terms of closing down police cases. Police must be held accountable. I don’t think all police are bad; I don’t even think most are bad. But those that are need to be held accountable.”

And, naturally, Sharpton thinks the best way to “hold accountable” the small minority of police who abuse power is to federalize all police. The federal government has already been arming local PDs with decommissioned military equipment, so why not finish the job?

Sharpton’s idea, as frightening as it is, is hardly original. Back in 2008, then-candidate Barack Obama, who was spouting out campaign promises faster than Hillary Clinton can wipe her hard drive, floated an idea for a national civilian police force, saying, “We cannot continue to rely only on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives that we’ve set. We’ve got to have a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well funded.”

He eventually seemed to drop the idea, but maybe he just had to wait for a more opportune crisis.

And what better way to push a federal police force than to capitalize on Baltimore, Ferguson and New York as justification for Big Brother to step in and save the day? Indeed, less than a month after the shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson, the Justice Department announced an investigation of the Ferguson PD. In December, the DOJ announced an investigation into the death of Eric Garner in New York. And Wednesday, Baltimore Democrat Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake asked the Justice Department to launch a civil rights investigation into her city’s police department following the death of Freddie Gray — a request the Department is “actively considering” and no doubt will jump on.

The guise may be accountability, but the solution is laughable. As University of Tennessee Law Professor Glenn Reynolds points out, federal agencies hardly have a stellar record when it comes to law enforcement. There’s the Secret Service engaging in extracurricular entertainment of the whorish sort; the Drug Enforcement Agency allegedly attending sex parties — with prostitutes funded by drug cartels, no less; and the Capitol Police leaving loaded firearms unattended, including one in a bathroom found by a child. And remember that little scandal called Fast and Furious? Imagine if your local police force smuggled firearms to known drug rings in town. Yeah, that would go over well.

Yet this is just the kind of oversight and “accountability” that federalizing police would bring. Oh, and there’s the minor detail that it’s unconstitutional. The Tenth Amendment clearly states, “The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the states respectively, or to the people.” A federal police force is not one of the delegated powers. And we doubt this was an oversight on the part of our Founders. Of course, given Obama’s view of the Constitution as little more than an inconvenient pamphlet, this would hardly deter him.

Be prepared for the Left to issue more calls for a police takeover, using anything from isolated incidents to larger terror threats to justify it. But unless America wants its police force attaining the same stellar reputation for accountability and justice as the IRS, the NSA and the VA, we’d better be prepared to reject any attempts at a federal takeover.

Aide to Kamala Harris accused of helping mysterious ‘Masonic’ police force

A staffer for California Attorney General and U.S. Senate candidate Kamala Harris (D) has been arrested and accused of participating in a mysterious group that impersonates a police force.

The staffer, Brandon Kiel, is alleged to have been involved in the Masonic Fraternal Police Department, the Los Angeles Times reported.

The group’s website says it “provides services to Masonic Sovereign Grand Masters and their Masonic Jurisdictions, as well as other Fraternities, Sororities and Greek Organizations.” It claims to be active in 33 states and Mexico, and to have links to the Knights Templar, an ancient military order.


‘Jade Helm’ military exercise causing political firestorm in Texas, western states

A massive military exercise planned in states across the American West has touched off a political firestorm, with several top Texas officials now questioning the military’s plans – if only to calm the Internet and constituent furor surrounding it.

The seven-state war simulation exercise, known as “Jade Helm 15,” is planned for this summer. It involves training exercises on private and public land – while such exercises are hardly unique, even the military acknowledges the “size and scope” of this one sets it apart.

The Global Bond Bubble is finally bursting – and here is why

It’s been a tough few days for holders of government debt. The value of sovereign bonds has dipped by $340bn (£223bn) since the start of last week. The correction has followed a tremendous rally in government bond prices, prompted by fears of deflation and central bank bond-buying schemes. Even Bill Gross, the bond trading veteran, has weighed in to say that German 10-years, or bunds, look to be “the short of a lifetime”.But what is prompting the massive sell-off in sovereign notes?

The easiest explanation for falling bond prices is that a climb in commodity values, including in oil and copper, could signal the end to global disinflationary episodes. A steep fall in the price of oil was the catalyst for fears over low inflation and even deflation at the beginning of the year. Now these have started to rebound, and along with them inflation forecasts. Jim Reid, of Deutsche Bank, said that the “sell-off seems to be part of a steady re-pricing of inflation risk, and it was noticeable that oil hit five-month highs yesterday” as Brent closed up at close to $68 a barrel. The costly effects of a virulent H5 strain of avian influenza keeps getting worse. Layoffs have begun in the poultry industry as thousands more birds are being slaughtered. The U.S. Department of Agriculture has now confirmed 122 cases of the disease, which can kill a bird in 48 hours (Tweet This). So far, nearly 24 million chickens and turkeys from more than a dozen states have been affected since December.

The mounting numbers top the previous record outbreak from the 1980s, which hit 17 million birds. And it’s still spreading: Both Iowa and Minnesota reported more “probable” cases this week, including two more commercial egg operations that together house an estimated 3.9 million hens.

Egg producers have been hit hardest. In 2014, 362 million “layer” hens in the U.S. produced 100 billion eggs. With more than 20 million hens now in the process of being culled, nearly 6 percent of the nation’s population has been taken offline. Layer hens are different from “broiler” chickens, which are sold as meat. At least 12 injured in Oklahoma City as tornadoes sweep through PlainsPosted: 07 May 2015 06:21 AM PDT

OKLAHOMA CITY – Authorities are set to survey the damage that was left behind after tornadoes swept through the southern plains, overturning cars and destroying dozens of homes near Oklahoma City Wednesday night. At least 12 people were injured, but no deaths were immediately reported from the twisters that also whipped through rural parts of Texas, Kansas and Nebraska. “We’ll have much better picture of how widespread the damage is when the sun comes up tomorrow,” meteorologist Forrest Mitchell with the National Weather Service in Norman said.

The Oklahoma City area seemed to be the hardest hit. A twister destroyed homes in Grady County and it appeared another tornado touched down in the area later Wednesday when a second storm came through. “We do strongly think there was a tornado on the south side of Oklahoma City,” meteorologist Michael Scotten said after the second storm that hit around 8:40 p.m. The stormed flipped vehicles over vehicles on Interstate 35 and left power lines strewn across the roadway, Scrotten said.

Lara O’Leary, a spokeswoman for Emergency Medical Services Authority, said late Wednesday that the company transported 12 patients from a trailer park in south Oklahoma City to local hospitals. She did not give further details about the extent of the patients’ injuries. MORE

Netanyahu Told Kerry: Don’t Visit Israel to Discuss ‘Peace Process’Posted: 07 May 2015 05:52 AM PDT

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu turned down a proposed visit from US Secretary of State John Kerry following the Israeli elections, saying it would be better to visit after a government coalition is formed. The purpose of the visit may have been to revive the moribund Israeli-Palestinian peace process, pundits say. The deadline for Netanyahu to form a coalition is May 6 at 8 PM. The report came from Israel’s Channel 2 news station. Correspondent Udi Segal suggested that Kerry was seeking reassurances that Israel was willing to move forward on negotiations with the Palestinian Authority. During his campaign, Netanyahu said that there would be no Palestinian state created on his watch. He later clarified that he meant that current conditions were not right for the creation of a Palestinian state.

The Israeli leader’s opposition to focusing at this time on negotiations with the Palestinians, together with strong disagreements between Jerusalem and US President Barack Obama over the Iranian nuclear issue, led the White House to publicly excoriate Netanyahu. Obama said that the US “needs to rethink our approach” towards relations with Israel. US Ambassador to the UN Samantha Power clarified that this could include putting forward anti-Israel resolutions at the UN Security Council. On the Iranian issue, Obama will not meet with Netanyahu in person until a final nuclear agreement is reached, and Kerry dismissed Israeli concerns about the deal as “hysteria.” There have also been intimations that the Obama administration interfered in the Israeli elections. A powerful earthquake rattled Papua New Guinea on Thursday, the fourth strong quake to hit the South Pacific island nation in a week. The temblor prompted officials to issue a local tsunami warning, but it was lifted shortly afterward with no reports of damage. The 7.1-magnitude quake struck about 150 kilometers (94 miles) southwest of the town of Panguna on Bougainville Island at a depth of 23 kilometers (14 miles), the U.S. Geological Survey reported. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said tsunami waves of up to 1 meter (3 feet) were possible within 300 kilometers (186 miles) of the epicenter on the coast of Papua New Guinea. The agency lifted the warning about an hour. There were no reports of damage, said Chris McKee, assistant director of the Geophysical Observatory in the capital, Port Moresby. Because the epicenter was so far offshore, the chance of serious damage on land was less likely, he said.

“The earthquake appears to have not been as big as first estimated,” McKee said. “I think the threat from that event is basically passed now. So we’ll just wait for the next one.” Thursday’s quake was located in a different area of Papua New Guinea than the previous three temblors that rattled the region over the past week, and was therefore an unrelated event, McKee said. So far, the worst outbreak of bird flu in U.S. history has claimed the lives of more than 20 million turkeys and chickens, and the pandemic continues to rage wildly out of control. Once one bird becomes infected, this particular strain of the virus is so virulent that it can virtually wipe out an entire flock in just a matter of days. At this point, scientists think that this virus is being spread by wild birds, but they have no idea how it is getting inside barns and other enclosed facilities so easily.

Considering how important turkey, chicken and eggs are to our food supply, it is quite alarming that scientists don’t really understand what is going on. If this bird flu outbreak is not brought under control, how many birds will eventually die? Right now, it is already in the tens of millions. It was an active seismic day in California, with small earthquakes rattling residents across Northern California and the Inland Empire on Wednesday morning. Although conspiracy theories are tempting, earthquake experts said there’s no reason to think they’re connected. Even the three quakes in Riverside County were too far apart to all be linked. The first two, a magnitude-3.7 and -2.7 that struck shortly after midnight, both were traced back to the San Jacinto fault zone. But the third temblor, a magnitude-3.1 near Corona at 9:11 a.m., occurred in a different fault zone.

Scientists are still studying the details of the third earthquake, which occurred near the Elsinore and Whittier faults, Caltech seismologist Jennifer Andrews said. As for the first two, it seemed like business as usual for the San Jacinto fault zone, a major network of faults in Southern California. “We see relatively small earthquakes [on the San Jacinto fault], but it’s relatively active,” Andrews said. Typhoon Noul is intensifying in the Western Pacific Ocean, and appears to be headed for a collision with the northern Philippine island of Luzon this weekend as a compact but intense storm. The Joint Typhoon Warning Center, operated by the U.S. Navy and Air Force, has shifted the storm’s projected forecast track to potentially make landfall in Luzon, before recurving to the northeast toward Japan early next week. Previous forecasts had shown that Noul would miss the Philippines entirely. As the world’s most disaster-prone nation, however, it has endured everything from typhoons to volcanoes; this year, the Philippines lies in the path of what could be some particularly vicious storms that will be supercharged by unusually mild ocean waters. The overabundance of ocean heat content is in large part related to an El Niño event in the tropical Pacific Ocean, which has boosted ocean surface temperatures in parts of the tropical Pacific, and altered wind and weather patterns.

Tropical cyclones are like giant heat engines. They derive their strength in part from water vapor and heat from warm ocean waters. Typhoon Noul is not expected to become a dreaded super typhoon, such as Haiyan was when it wiped out much of Tacloban, on the island of Leyte, in 2014. That storm was among the strongest-ever tropical cyclones on record to make landfall worldwide, with sustained winds of about 190 miles per hour. Typhoon Noul is projected to peak as a Category 4 storm, and make landfall during the weekend with winds closer to 125 miles per hour, although tropical cyclone-intensity forecasts made more than several hours in advance have considerable uncertainty. Americans Should Prepare Themselves For The Coming Obama-Sponsored ISIS Homeland Terror Attacks

America, you are about to know what it is like to live in a Third World country in the Middle East.


Right from the get go, Barack Hussein Obama told us in no uncertain terms that he was on the side of the Muslims, and that America would soon become Sharia compliant. During the 2008 campaign, like Hitler writing in Mein Kampf, he told us that radical transformation was coming if you elected him:

America, since 1776, has never needed “transformation”, all we have ever needed was good men and women who would stick to the original ideals and principles set forth by our Founding Fathers. Transformation is what you have when something changes, and this is what Obama delivered.

For the past 6 years, Barack Hussein Obama was worked tirelessly both behind the scenes and openly, to allow hundreds of thousands illegal immigrants into this country, as well as importing tens of thousands of Syrian “refugees” from the Middle East and implanting them all though the Midwest. The Bible Belt, our Heartland, is now filled with foreign-born Muslims, almost none of which have been properly processed or accounted for. Mixed in among these “refugees” are hundreds of hardcore ISIS war fighters from the Middle East who have been busy creating terror cells on our soil. This has all been done for one reason and for one reason only, to launch Islamic terror attacks on Americans in America. This past weekend, ISIS terrorists openly launched gunfire attacks on the Mohammad Cartoon contest in Garland, Texas, hosted by Pamela Geller. ISIS officially took responsibility for the attacks. Headline from the NY Daily News just today states that “ISIS threatens controversial blogger Pamela Geller in message boasting of ‘71 trained soldiers in 15 different states.” Are you getting the picture yet?

The ISIS attacks, which have already begun, will gradually increase in number until watching beheadings on the streets of every major American city will become as commonplace as checking the weather report. Why do you think that Obama has made it so hard to purchase new firearms and ammunition? He wants as few people as possible to be able to defend themselves on the streets. There is no new restrictive legislation on firearms; and yet never has the ability to buy reasonably priced ammunition and firearms in quantity been more curtailed. In loudly threatening to enact more gun control after each publicized tragic shooting, the Obama administration has created a climate of fear, which has prompted hoarding, shortages, panic buying, and paranoia, which have accomplished what the federal government could not.

How do you think that the so-called Arab Spring came about? Obama was a major player in this, and his Puppet-master, George Soros, supplied the money. The plan was to destabilize the Middles East, and rid the Arabic countries of their secular governments, and replace them with the Muslim Brotherhood. That was the plan. Did you know that there are two major lawsuits pending in Egypt right now charging both Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton with conspiracy against Egypt in concert with the Muslim Brotherhood?

Just think of how violent the streets of America have become since 2008. Race riots happen every few months in major cites, riots which we have shown you time and again were bought and paid for by George Soros. School shootings and public bombings are off the charts since Obama’s election, they happen so often that you have subconsciously tuned them out, so here is a reminder for you. Don’t just gloss over it, read it. In his years of occupying the desk at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue hide a sinister statistic – America has had 16 mass shootings since he became president, and this weekend’s shooting in California now brings that total to 17. And since this is a list of shootings only, it does not include the Boston Bombing Massacre that Obama used to roll out martial law for a 24-hour period in Boston.


Operation jade Helm 15 is about to launch on America, and the Pentagon is trying oh-so-hard to convince us that we have “nothing to fear”. That’s exactly what Adolf Hitler told the German people in 1932, nothing to fear. Only he was lying, just like Obama and his administration are doing to us at this very moment.

The war is coming, ISIS at the invitation of your president is here and prepared to wage jihad on America in America. This is what you voted for when you elected Obama, this is the change he promised you. We urge to be right with Jesus Christ, because you getting ready to meet Him.

And as shocking as all this is, we haven’t even discussed the Benghazi Coverup, Fast & Furious, Solyndra, Iran’s nuclear weapons, the IRS targeting of Conservatives, the Veterans Administration scandal, Obamacare, or any other of a dozen more egregious attacks on America and Americans. Or Obama’s love for taxpayer-funded abortion and the LGBT agenda. You just keep thinking that Obama is a “lazy clown” who spends all his time on the golf course. That’s exactly the image of him he wants you to have. The Obama we are showing you is one who is a workaholic, highly-motivated, highly-funded end times Anti-American destroyer who will bring this nation to it’s knees in the face of Islamic jihadism if we let  him. He’s got a whole lot done already, wouldn’t you agree?

Our own founding documents warned us this day would come, are we ready?

I cannot say it anymore plainly or passionately than what I have expressed here in this article. What happens next, and what we as citizens allow to happen next is yet to be determined. So let me close with these timely words from a document that Obama despises, the Declaration of Independence:

When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.

The dying thief: What was so great about his faith?

There are many acts of extraordinary faith in the Bible. The one that has impressed me the most concerns the dying thief on the cross. We could take the approach that he had nothing to lose, so he decided to cast his lot with Jesus. But this makes absolutely no sense of the text and the context.
In this conversion we have a specific fulfillment of Christ’s first words on the cross. No sooner had Christ spoken the words, “Father, forgive them,” had the Father answered that prayer by turning a once-reviling criminal into a Christ-glorifying saint. While the soon-to-be converted criminal was not directly responsible for Christ’s death, he nevertheless joined with those who were and was thus indirectly addressed when Christ asked for God to forgive “them.”
Christ, the sinless one, was numbered with or counted among the transgressors (Isa. 53:12; Luke 22:37), all of whom have a bigger problem than the day-to-day sins they commit. They hate Christ, the God-man. Anyone who has a master other than the Lord Jesus hates him (Lk. 16:13; Gal. 4:8). That these two criminals loathed him is clearly manifested during the crucifixion: “And the robbers who were crucified with him also reviled him in the same way” (Matt. 27:44).
When the criminal who was converted was doing his worst against Christ, Christ was doing his best for this criminal.
The conversion of the one criminal was most extraordinary and testifies to the power of Christ’s prayer and the grace of God. Why?
This criminal’s faith did not come at a time such as when Christ turned water into wine; or performed miracles, such as walking on water, opening the eyes of a blind man, or raising Lazarus from the dead. No! The criminal believed on the Messiah while he was hanging as one cursed upon a tree. The criminal trusted in and boldly defended the one whose disciples had abandoned him. Jesus was at his lowest when this criminal asked to be remembered in Christ’s kingdom.
When he was on the cross, did anyone publicly cry out, as John the Baptist did, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!” (Jn. 1:29)? But this is essentially what the dying thief did. Little wonder, then, that Christ should promise him a place in his kingdom: “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise” (Lk. 23:43).
The criminal acknowledged he was guilty; he acknowledged that Christ was not (“this man has done nothing wrong”); he feared God; but, and here is the key: the criminal did not merely want to be in a better place. He wanted to be with Christ in a better place: “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom” (Lk. 23:42). The criminal believed “against all hope”.
Heaven is a better place because that is where Christ is. Everyone wants to go to heaven, but not everyone wants to go to Christ’s heaven. Not so with this criminal: he saw, with his eyes, Christ at his worst; but with the eyes of faith, he believed that Christ would soon be at his best, and so put his faith in a dying king.
Christ is always – always! – willing to save even the most miserable of sinners. A recognition of guilt (Lk. 23:40) and a confidence in him and not ourselves (Lk. 23:42) will always lead to the most assuring truth a sinner can receive: the Savior welcomes such into his paradise!
