South Korea reports fifth MERS death as the number of cases climbs

Posted: 07 Jun 2015 07:32 AM PDT

South Korea said Sunday that 14 more people have been infected with Middle East respiratory syndrome and that a fifth person had died. A total of 64 people have been confirmed as having MERS since a South Korean man infected with the virus returned from the Middle East in May. The outbreak is the largest ever outside the Middle East, where most infections have occurred since the virus was discovered in Saudi Arabia in 2012. The latest fatality was a 75-year-old man who was found to have had MERS after dying, the Health Ministry said.

MERS is a respiratory disease from the same family of viruses as the common cold and severe acute respiratory syndrome, or SARS. There is no vaccine or medical treatment for the virus, which has a death rate of around 27%, according to the World Health Organization. However, in the first case of a possible recovery from the virus in the latest outbreak, one person diagnosed with MERS was discharged from a hospital Friday after her body temperature returned to normal and test results came back negative, the government said. Gay Marriage Debate Approaching Critical Juncture this Summer

Posted: 07 Jun 2015 07:25 AM PDT

This Summer could “Make or Break” America as the debate over gay marriage is approaching a critical juncture. At the end of the month, the Supreme Court will rule on Obergefell v. Hodges, which asks whether same-sex couples have a constitutional right to marry. This will be the second time in just over two years that a landmark ruling is expected on same-sex marriage. In 2013, the Supreme Court ruled in United States v. Windsor that a key provision of the Defense of Marriage Act, or DOMA, was unconstitutional — in effect ruling that the federal government now must recognize same-sex marriages that took place in states where it’s currently legal.

This was a huge win for gay rights advocates, but there were still many states with marriage bans. Same-sex couples sued the government, asking for the same marriage rights as straight couples, such as the ability to file state taxes jointly, have visiting rights at hospitals, and make critical medical decisions for their partner and children. But opponents of same-sex marriage argue that marriage is a union only between a man and a woman. The debate has been brought before several federal appeals courts. These courts, drawing on the Windsor decision, have ruled to strike down gay marriage bans. FULL REPORT

World’s events prompt Christians to watch for ‘Antichrist’

Posted: 06 Jun 2015 07:23 PM PDT

According to Moody Radio’s Up For Debate program, Bible scholars have traditionally held the Antichrist “will be of Roman or European descent.” But in the most recent episode of the popular Christian program, documentary filmmaker, religious teacher and New York Times bestselling author of books including “Mideast Beast” and “The Islamic Antichrist” Joel Richardson advanced a powerful argument for believing the Antichrist will come from the Islamic world. He said the idea really “is not so much a novel view as it’s often cast.”

“When we survey a broad range of opinions surrounding the Antichrist down through history even through the early church, there was the view the Antichrist would come out of Syria or out of the Middle East, although it was believed he would come out of a segment of the Roman Empire,” he said. Richardson blames a “false equation” of “Roman” being perceived as equal to “European” in the eyes of many people interested in eschatology which arose as the European Union was consolidating in the 1980s.

However, as he notes, the Roman Empire extended beyond Europe to the Middle East. Richardson also says Christian leaders throughout history had an understanding of the special significance of the Islamic world. Richardson, whose most recent book is “When a Jew Rules the World: What The Bible Really Says About Israel In the Plan of God,” argues the Bible is focused on Israel and the Middle East, not on Europe. Prophecy, he maintains, will reflect that focus. FULL REPORT

Are Biblical ‘Giants’ Poised For Comeback?

Posted: 06 Jun 2015 07:09 PM PDT

L.A. Marzulli will be the first to admit that his area of biblical research is controversial. Any time you start talking about a hybrid gene pool that led to giants – half human, half angelic spirit beings – walking the earth in ancient times, and alien encounters in modern days, a certain number of people will get up and leave the room. It just sounds too bizarre, he said. But the same bizarreness that repels some will attract others.

That’s why his books make it onto best-sellers’ lists and his DVDs fly off the shelves at Amazon. There is the “Return of the Nephilim” book series and the popular seven-part “Watchers” documentary film series. His upcoming conference, “Nephilim Mounds III,” is Sept. 12-13 at the historic Midland Theater in Newark, Ohio. Speakers include Fritz Zimmerman, Gary Stearman, Russ Dizdar, Chief Joseph Riverwind and Marzulli himself. Part of the conference will involve a Sunday afternoon trip to the Indian mounds at Newark with teaching from Chief Joseph on the ancient Native American legends about heroic battles with giants on the earth. Groundbreaking ‘Frankenstein’ Surgery Will Literally Make Your Head Spin

Posted: 06 Jun 2015 06:53 PM PDT

Here’s something that will make your head spin: A Chinese doctor has been surgically transplanting the heads of mice—and he eventually wants to perform head transplants on humans, too. Surgeon Xiaoping Ren has performed roughly 1,000 head transplants on mice since 2013, and has had more success than anyone else with the surgery, according to a report in the Wall Street Journal. The mice—whose new heads sometimes have different colored fur than their bodies—have lived as long as a day after the operations.

Next, Ren plans to try his technique on monkeys, “hoping to create the first head-transplanted primate that can live and breathe on its own, at least for a little while,” the Journal says. Of course, even if head transplants are eventually possible in humans, the procedure is so ethically controversial that many scientists doubt it will ever be allowed in the U.S., even on an experimental level (part of the reason Ren left his job at the University of Cincinnati for China to conduct his research). Researchers who have tried have been nicknamed “Dr. Frankenstein.” “The whole idea is ridiculous,” New York University medical ethics professor Arthur Caplan told the Journal. FULL REPORT

Farmers Are Pumping So Much Groundwater It’s Making California SinkPosted: 06 Jun 2015 11:10 AM PDT

What happens when your water supply runs dry? You go underground. In a few sections of California, dry season tormented agriculturists are burrowing groundwater wells that dive more profound and more profound into the earth, siphoning without end the water of their neighbors, and bringing about the ground to fall conceivably annihilating the dirt for good. A story in the New York Times’ dry spell arrangement investigates how groundwater used to be a final resort—a reinforcement asset to tap just if things got intense. Following a couple dry years, ranchers have expected to begin penetrating. Be that as it may, one of the greatest issues inside of California’s bigger water information issues is that up until a year ago there was no groundwater regulation by any means. Indeed, even now it will take a couple of years for the constrained enactment to become effective. This is incredibly dangerous amid a dry spell, says Jay Famiglietti, senior water researcher at the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory, where researchers have been measuring the groundwater exhaustion by satellite:

“You bore a well on your property, you coax it out, regardless of the fact that it implies you draw from under your neighbor’s property,” he says. “You’re drawing water from each course.”

Underground water supply isn’t fenced or confined; it is dampness held in the dirt, shakes and mud, and drawn through wells like pop through a straw. In a typical year, Mr. Famiglietti says, 33 percent of California’s water originates from underground, yet this year it is required to approach 75 percent. Since 2011, he says, the state has lost eight trillion gallons from its general water saves, 66% of that from its underground aquifers.

Be that as it may, as the aquifers are drawn down, the ordinarily soaked permeable earth around them begins to dry out, which causes the layers of soil to conservative. Not just does the ground at surface level begin to sink, it really crumples into the aquifer. This is called subsidence, and it can really demolish the water table until the end of time.

A few sections of the Central Valley of California have seen the ground sink up to a foot in the course of the most recent couple of years, as indicated by a guide made for the story.

Significantly additionally alarming is the way that this is really happening in numerous spots, not simply California. Unmonitored penetrating of freshwater sources can happen anyplace, and even monstrous aquifers in territories flush with downpour are in threat of being overdrawn. The greatest water wars without bounds are more prone to be undetectable fights pursued underground. SOURCE

As strains increment in the middle of Russia and the United States, a chilling report proposes that an atomic strike is not past the domain of plausibility. As per the report, various sources have provided details regarding the meeting of US Defense Secretary Ashton Carter at the central station of the US European Command in Stuttgart, Germany, with two dozen different US military commandants and European ambassadors close behind.

The motivation behind this meeting is apparently to talk about how the financial and military crusade that is at present being pursued against Russia will be further heightened. Carter is relied upon to lead an examination that will survey the effect of current financial assents, and also incorporating civil argument on the accomplishment of the NATO system in misusing the emergency in eastern Ukraine.

Most genuine of all, however, is a late report distributed by the Associated Press which proposes that the leader of the US military exertion, the Pentagon, has been effectively considering the utilization of atomic rockets against military focuses in Russia. This may appear like a desperate prospect to anybody mindful of the conceivable results of such an activity, yet the United States organization clearly considers this a conceivable reaction to claimed infringement of the 1987 Intermediate-range Nuclear Forces (INF) bargain.

Reports recommend that three different alternatives are right now being considered by Pentagon big bosses, which incorporate a preemptive organization of atomic rockets against focuses inside Russia. Despite the fact that this would be an especially compelling choice, it is broadly accepted to be on the table nearby two different less exceptional gameplans. The position of against rocket barriers in Europe went for shooting Russian rockets straight out of the sky, and preemptive non-atomic strikes are likewise supposedly under thought.

A Pentagon representative that addresses the Associated Press did not unequivocally affirm the reports, but rather did state that every military choice under thought are intended to guarantee that Russia picks up no critical military point of interest from the charged infringement. In the interim, Russia keeps on denying the proposal that it has disregarded the 1987 Treaty, expressing that its activities have been altogether steady with this enactment.

It ought to be normally underlined that a preemptive atomic strike against Russia could possibly, and some may say definitely, prompt a full-scale atomic war. The results of this are practically endless and unbelievable, yet the completely most hopeful situation would be that countless lives would be lost. Considering that this choice seems, by all accounts, to be on the table, it has not preposterously driven a few sources to portray the outside strategy of Washington and its NATO partners as staggeringly criminal and rash.

While such a great recommendation as a preemptive atomic strike is constantly prone to draw in naysayers, it is vital to declare that there is now critical point of reference of such a demonstration happening. Eras of Americans grew up under the shadow of the Cold War, when the possibility of atomic war appeared an unmistakable plausibility consistently. Around then, what can best be depicted as a twisted atomic war weapons contest between the Soviet Union and the United States was a wellspring of concern everywhere throughout the world, and in spite of the fact that this clearly didn’t at last result in full-scale atomic war, it is a matter of people in general record that this upsetting prospect did to be sure verge on a stunning acknowledgment. Fog ‘Tsunami’ forms off US east coast

Posted: 06 Jun 2015 06:46 AM PDT

Life guards in the US were treated to an awe-inspiring natural phenomenon when fog condensed over the sea to create the appearance of a large tsunami. Captain Jim Freda captured the sight off the coast of Sea Girt in New Jersey on Sunday where warm air converged over the cold waters of the Atlantic Ocean. The cloud formed perfectly along the coast line with winds blowing off the beach carving a smooth curve along the fog bank’s edge.

“It really just takes a perfect balance,” Joe Miketta, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service, told NJ.com. “Ocean temperatures don’t hit their peak around here until August and September, so things are still pretty cold out there. It was just the right combination.” The fog tsunami had the same eerie effect as the “red wave” that appeared off the coast of Western Australia in January 2013. FULL REPORT

Is ISIS Coming to Damascus?Posted: 05 Jun 2015 08:02 PM PDT

Who rises if Assad falls? That question, which has bedeviled U.S. experts on the Middle East, may need updating to read: Who rises when Assad falls? For the war is going badly for Bashar Assad, whose family has ruled Syria since Richard Nixon was president. Assad’s situation seems more imperiled than at any time in this four-year civil-sectarian war that has cost the lives of some 220,000 soldiers, rebels and civilians, and made refugees of millions more.

Last month, ISIS captured Palmyra in central Syria, as it was taking Ramadi in Iraq. A coalition, at the heart of which is the al-Qaida-linked Nusra Front, seized Idlib province in northern Syria and is moving toward the coast and Latakia. Half of Syria has been lost to ISIS, the Nusra front, and other jihadist and rebel groups. All of Syria’s border crossings with Iraq have been lost to ISIS. All of the border crossing with Turkey, excluding Kobani, have been lost to ISIS or rebels linked to al-Qaida. Syria’s border with Lebanon is becoming a war zone. FULL REPORT

Hezbollah vows to displace ‘millions’ in Israel if Lebanon attacked

Posted: 05 Jun 2015 07:50 PM PDT

The head of Lebanon’s powerful Shiite movement Hezbollah threatened on Friday that his group would displace “millions” in Israel if the Jewish state attacks Lebanon. Hassan Nasrallah made the threat in a televised address weeks after an Israeli army official warned that Israel would “have to” target civilian areas in Lebanon in a future confrontation with Hezbollah.

“If they threaten to displace 1.5 million Lebanese, then the Islamic resistance in Lebanon (Hezbollah) threatens to displace millions of Israelis,” Nasrallah hit back. “We are not afraid of your war or of your threats,” he said. “If you assume that we are busy in Syria, then you are wrong — because this changes nothing in how we deal with our enemy.” FULL REPORT

Why Is The EU Forcing European Nations To Adopt ‘Bail-In’ Legislation By The End Of The Summer?

Posted: 05 Jun 2015 07:44 PM PDT

Are they expecting something to happen? As you will read about below, the European Union says that any nation within the EU that does not enact “bail-in” legislation within the next two months will face legal action. The countries that are being threatened in this manner include Italy and France.

If you fast forward two months from this moment, that puts us in early August. So clearly the European Union wants everything to be squared away by the end of the summer. Is there a reason for this? Are they anticipating that something really bad will happen in September or thereafter? Why such a rush? We all remember what happened when major banks were “bailed out” during the last financial crisis. A tremendous amount of taxpayer money was given to the big banks to help prop them up so they wouldn’t fail. This greatly upset a lot of people. FULL REPORT

Obama secretly backing Muslim BrotherhoodPosted: 05 Jun 2015 07:40 PM PDT

President Obama and his administration continue to support the global Islamist militant group known the Muslim Brotherhood. A White House strategy document regards the group as a moderate alternative to more violent Islamist groups like al Qaeda and the Islamic State. The policy of backing the Muslim Brotherhood is outlined in a secret directive called Presidential Study Directive-11, or PSD-11.

The directive was produced in 2011 and outlines administration support for political reform in the Middle East and North Africa, according to officials familiar with the classified study. Efforts to force the administration to release the directive or portions of it under the Freedom of Information Act have been unsuccessful. Self-defense is now ILLEGAL in the UKPosted: 05 Jun 2015 07:34 PM PDT

The United Kingdom has been moving politically to the Left for some time now, but even in our wildest dreams, never could we have imagined that it would become illegal to protect yourself there. As reported by The New American, British subjects seeking advice about what are and are not permissible self-defense instruments found some recently on a police web site. It is sponsored by the British government’s Police National Legal Database.

Q589: Are there any legal self defence products that I can buy?

The police answer: The only fully legal self defence product… is a rape alarm. Now, the site goes on to say that there may be other products, but those have yet to be fully tested and that “if you purchase one you must be aware… there is always a possibility that you will be arrested and detained until the product, it’s [sic] contents and legality can be verified.” FULL REPORT

6.0 magnitude earthquake rattles Malaysia’s tallest mountain – killing two climbersPosted: 05 Jun 2015 07:09 PM PDT

Two people have died and more than 100 have been left stranded after an earthquake near Malaysia’s highest peak, officials say. The bodies of a local guide and a 12-year-old Singaporean girl were recovered from Mount Kinabalu, on the island of Borneo, local media say. The 6.0 magnitude earthquake triggered landslides, trapping 137 climbers on the mountain. Many have been trying to descend with the help of park rangers and guides. Police chief Jalaluddin Abdul Rahman confirmed the two fatalities but would not give any further details.

Initial attempts to rescue the survivors, some of whom are trapped under rocks, had to be abandoned because of bad weather. Helicopters were unable to land and the climbing route was made dangerous by rocks and boulders. Several of those injured have successfully made it down and many more are expected to reach base camp by Saturday morning, according to Sabah Parks director Jamili Nais. The earthquake was so powerful it also snapped off one of Mount Kinabalu’s “Donkey’s Ear” peaks. The tourism minister for Sabah state said that 32 guides were assisting the climbers on their way down, with the group moving “cautiously due to (a) damaged trail. Other than ongoing rescue efforts, our priority is to send food, drinks and warm clothing to those still stranded on the mountain,” he said. Some of the group had climbed to the summit to watch the sunrise as the earthquake struck. FULL REPORT

Parts of Europe see hottest day of the year so far in early-season heat wavePosted: 05 Jun 2015 07:04 PM PDT

Parts of Europe are sizzling on Friday as an early-season heat wave sweeps across the continent. The heat is not particularly intense or dangerous, but it’s pretty early the season for temperatures of this magnitude in northern Europe. Late-afternoon highs were surging into the low 90s, particularly in the Rhine River Valley in southwest Germany and eastern France.

Temperatures are steaming at as much as 25 degrees Fahrenheit above average for this time of year. Accuweather’s Eric Leister says that some cities, including Paris, Amsterdam and Frankfurt, are seeing their hottest temperatures of the year thus far. The heat and humidity was fueling a line of showers and thunderstorms that’s tracking east across northern Europe, with potential to impact the French Open on Friday evening.

The heat wave has likely reached its peak on Friday afternoon, though above-average temperatures will continue to spread south across Europe on Saturday into Sunday, but will regulate to highs closer to normal by early next week. Reuters reports that while the heat is making the tourists sweat in Paris, they don’t necessarily mind the brilliant blue sky. EP

Heat wave coming to Vancouver – city braces for “rare” early bout of record high temperatures

Posted: 05 Jun 2015 06:58 PM PDT

Record-breaking temperatures are on the way for B.C. this weekend. CBC meteorologist Johanna Wagstaffe says it will feel like 30 degrees or warmer on Saturday and Sunday across the southern part of the province. That is rare for this time of year, she says, and will likely break some records. “This is pretty early on in the season to see these kinds of temperatures,” said Wagstaffe. For the next few days, onshore sea-breezes will cap temperatures in the mid-20s near the ocean, according to Environment Canada. Slightly inland, temperatures will hover near 30 degrees. The warm spell is not expected to last past mid-next week. Wagstaffe says it’s important people prepare themselves for the heat and watch for signs of heat stroke.

“Because this is so much hotter than what we’re used to at this time of year, watch for symptoms of heat illness, dizziness, nausea, fainting and make sure to stay hydrated all weekend long.” The B.C. Wildfire Management Branch says fires larger than a campfire are not permitted in mosts part of the province. “We’re just asking people to be very careful with fire use,” said Navi Saini, a spokeswoman with the Wildfire Management Branch. “It’s really important we do keep the human-caused wildfires down, just so we do have resources to respond to the naturally occurring wildfires.” FULL REPORT

Insane heat wave in Alaska put temperatures higher than in Arizona

Posted: 05 Jun 2015 06:54 PM PDT

Alaska, along with the rest of the Arctic, has been warming even faster than other regions of the world due to climate change. That was the findings of a report this spring from the Department of Energy’s Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, which found that the rate of warming will only continue to increase in the coming decades. The signs of rapid warming in Alaska were everywhere this past winter. The Iditarod was moved north 300 miles to Fairbanks because Anchorage had record low snowfall. A ski resort outside of Juneau had to close because of low snowfall and warm temperatures that inhibited snow-making.

Now the 49th state experienced a heat wave at the end of May. Over Memorial Day weekend, while Texas was being inundated with floods, parts of Alaska were warmer than Arizona. On May 23 in Fairbanks, the temperature reached 86 degrees Fahrenheit, while Phoenix topped out at 83 for the day, reports Al Jazeera. Even the town of Bettles, which is north of Fairbanks and falls within the Arctic Circle, recorded a temperature of 82. That same day, Eagle, Alaska hit 91 degrees Fahrenheit, marking the earliest 90-degree day in state history, according to NASA Earth Observatory. And it wasn’t just one unusually warm day. “Between May 16 and May 24, Eagle hit 27 degrees Celsius (80 degrees Fahrenheit) or higher daily—its second longest such streak on record for any time of the year,” says Al Jazeera. “My Last Day” — the Jesus Anime

9 powerful minutes of animation that begins with a thief behind bars watching the scourging of Jesus, and it ends with the thief dying next to Jesus, and waking to see Him in a beautiful place.

The dying thief: What was so great about his faith?

There are many acts of extraordinary faith in the Bible. The one that has impressed me the most concerns the dying thief on the cross. We could take the approach that he had nothing to lose, so he decided to cast his lot with Jesus. But this makes absolutely no sense of the text and the context.
In this conversion we have a specific fulfillment of Christ’s first words on the cross. No sooner had Christ spoken the words, “Father, forgive them,” had the Father answered that prayer by turning a once-reviling criminal into a Christ-glorifying saint. While the soon-to-be converted criminal was not directly responsible for Christ’s death, he nevertheless joined with those who were and was thus indirectly addressed when Christ asked for God to forgive “them.”
Christ, the sinless one, was numbered with or counted among the transgressors (Isa. 53:12; Luke 22:37), all of whom have a bigger problem than the day-to-day sins they commit. They hate Christ, the God-man. Anyone who has a master other than the Lord Jesus hates him (Lk. 16:13; Gal. 4:8). That these two criminals loathed him is clearly manifested during the crucifixion: “And the robbers who were crucified with him also reviled him in the same way” (Matt. 27:44).
When the criminal who was converted was doing his worst against Christ, Christ was doing his best for this criminal.
The conversion of the one criminal was most extraordinary and testifies to the power of Christ’s prayer and the grace of God. Why?
This criminal’s faith did not come at a time such as when Christ turned water into wine; or performed miracles, such as walking on water, opening the eyes of a blind man, or raising Lazarus from the dead. No! The criminal believed on the Messiah while he was hanging as one cursed upon a tree. The criminal trusted in and boldly defended the one whose disciples had abandoned him. Jesus was at his lowest when this criminal asked to be remembered in Christ’s kingdom.
When he was on the cross, did anyone publicly cry out, as John the Baptist did, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!” (Jn. 1:29)? But this is essentially what the dying thief did. Little wonder, then, that Christ should promise him a place in his kingdom: “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise” (Lk. 23:43).
The criminal acknowledged he was guilty; he acknowledged that Christ was not (“this man has done nothing wrong”); he feared God; but, and here is the key: the criminal did not merely want to be in a better place. He wanted to be with Christ in a better place: “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom” (Lk. 23:42). The criminal believed “against all hope”.
Heaven is a better place because that is where Christ is. Everyone wants to go to heaven, but not everyone wants to go to Christ’s heaven. Not so with this criminal: he saw, with his eyes, Christ at his worst; but with the eyes of faith, he believed that Christ would soon be at his best, and so put his faith in a dying king.
Christ is always – always! – willing to save even the most miserable of sinners. A recognition of guilt (Lk. 23:40) and a confidence in him and not ourselves (Lk. 23:42) will always lead to the most assuring truth a sinner can receive: the Savior welcomes such into his paradise!
“One is saved, and we may not despair; the other is lost, and we may not presume.” Spurgeon

“Will I Be Fully Accepted At Your Church As A Gay Man?”

If by “I am a gay man” you mean that you struggle with same-sex attraction, recognizing any sexual activity outside of a covenant marriage between a man and a woman is sinful and that you desire Christian discipleship to walk in line with the Gospel as you struggle with this temptation, then we would rejoice at your honesty and openness and receive you gladly at Ashland. We have faithful and accountable members right now in that very situation and attempting to live celibate lives to the glory of Christ.

Supreme Court Boosts Workers Who Claim Religious Bias

The ruling continued the high court’s practice of providing legal protection for religious beliefs and customs. In recent years, it has allowed employers with religious objections to avoid covering some forms of birth control, upheld the practice of opening local government meetings with a prayer, and allowed a Muslim inmate to keep his beard in prison.

Going against God “just for fun”

by Marsha West

I wrote this piece a few years ago to bring to light the sad fact that more and more Christians were becoming involved in occult practices. Well, nothing has changed since I wrote this. In fact, Christianity is infected with the deadly occult virus, thanks largely to so-called Christian leaders, to include pastors, elders, and Bible […]

The New Transgender Agenda: Cultural Confusion

by Marsha West

Dave Fiorazo, author, speaker and radio host, addresses the Left’s attempt to normalize what the majority of people have always thought of as a sexual perversion: Transgenderism. Bruce/Caitlyn Jenner has been portrayed by the press as courageous for saying publicly that he no longer wishes to be a man; now he wants to be viewed […]

No need for Christ in Alcoholics Anonymous

Many people believe Alcoholics Anonymous or A.A. is a Christian based organization. Well, nothing could be further from the truth. Researcher and blogger John Lanagan has uncovered the occult origins of this organization and has written a book and a plethora of articles to expose A.A.’s beliefs. To discover the truth behind A.A. and its popular Twelve Step […]

This ‘n’ That

  • Um, really, who cares? It isn’t as though we can stop things like this from happening, so why fret over it? Aren’t there more important things to worry about, like proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ to lost sinners?
  • You know, I’m starting to see the value in Creflo Dollar getting that big, fancy jet. And because I’ve seen the light, I’ve decided that, between this blog and Equipping Eve, I have a few “ministry needs” myself. The first of these is that I need a chiropractor on call everyday. Also, I need someone who plays the guitar like this to just sit in the corner and play while I go about my day. Both of these things will keep me relaxed and happy. So, won’t you send me money to fulfill these obvious needs?
  • Yeah, so, more about this later.
  • How do you know if you have the Holy Spirit?
  • And you thought kangaroos were kind and cuddly.
  • But…but…the Holy Spirit told me to!
  • This is a horrible story on multiple levels.
  • Here is your weekly dose of adorable.
  • No, this is not “entry level Christianity,” this is false Christianity and Don Piper needs to repent for his telling of fables.
  • This former transgendered man has a warning for Bruce Jenner.
  • Christian women commend the gospel of Christ in ways that ring like bursting cymbals that pierce the discordant clatter of the world.”

Articles of the Week

How to Be a Godly Man, Peter Sholl. As a general rule, I (Chris) am more than a bit skeptical when presented with advice on how to be a “man” or “woman” of God. Call it Wild-At-Heart Syndrome: we tend to read our cultural idea of manhood or womanhood into Scripture, then stamp our cultural preferences with a divine tag and call them biblical. So I’m not sure why I ventured over to Sholl’s article. Call it blind optimism. For once, I was pleasantly surprised.

How Would Your Church Respond to Caitlyn Jenner? Dr. Stephen Grcevich. I recently wrote a piece attempting to help people through the very confusing maze of terminology surrounding transgender discussions (you can find it here). Nothing has changed since then, except that famed Olympian Bruce Jenner—now Caitlyn Jenner—has emerged as the most famous transgender person in the world (for now). Our churches need to be places where the transgendered feel safe. And as Dr. Grcevich points out, we have a lot to learn about what’s going on deep inside them.

Four Reasons Paper Is Still Superior to Reading on a Screen, Michael Hyatt. Yes, yes, we know. This is ironic. But if a guy with a web-based platform is saying that books are superior to blogs, maybe it’s time we listen.

Smartphones, Tablets, & Christian Parents, Russell Moore. There’s no shortage of lunacy these days, but Moore takes on one of the more dramatic instances of idiocy here—the foolish habits of parents who give their kids unrestricted internet access. No, unrestricted web access is not the same as access to television or wandering around the neighborhood unattended. It’s more like sending our teens to a strip club and hoping they just read their Bibles the whole time. Parents of the world, don’t be dumb. Even if your children ask for a “serpent,” you should know better.

Defending the Biblical Account of Creation
Jun 05, 2015 07:18 am | Mike

The battle for the hearts and minds of our youth is being waged aggressively within the media and public education.  One of the most sinister lies being told is that God did not create all things–rather that life is just a random act of a universe that magically came into existence on its own. Why […]

The Dennis Hastert Example and NSA Control of National Government

Is Bruce/”Caitlyn” Jenner the new face of American Christianity?

What does it look like when a culture dives deep into the Kool-Aid of “We the People” as god in practice? Not Just Acceptance, But Coercion—Christians Now Being Told to Embrace Gay “Marriage” or Else

by Marsha West

Ken Ham and Mark Looy of Answers In Genesis discuss the best approach for Bible believing Christians to take in the growing controversy over gay “marriage.” More and more professing Christians are ignoring what the Bible expressly teaches and are falling in line with the radical gay lobby. Ham and Looy blame this shift on biblical illiteracy. They point out that “with the increasing emphasis on entertainment in church life today, there has been a corresponding dearth of solid Bible teaching and thus a lack of spiritual maturity seen among Christians. Such congregations essentially function as a group of biblical illiterates and are more susceptible to being swept up in anti-biblical thinking of the day, such as supporting gay ‘marriage.’ An ignorance of what the Bible teaches about homosexual behavior combined with a mindset that Christians must be ‘loving’ has led to many churches accepting gay ‘marriage.'” So, how can believers influence a society that no longer takes God’s Word seriously?

How To Think About Israel

by Kevin T. Bauder

The state of Israel is in the news at least weekly, sometimes daily. The United States is still the greatest supporter of Israel, but public perception is that the Obama administration’s backing is less than enthusiastic. In spite of this assessment, the Obama administration was the first to sell bunker-buster bombs to Israel, and it vetoed down a UN resolution that would have declared Israeli settlements illegal on the West Bank.

Given all the controversy, Christians sometimes wonder how they should think about Israel. The problem is especially acute for dispensationalists, who believe that national Israel is still a chosen people of God and will someday be restored to God’s favor. Several observations might help Christian people to adopt a correct attitude toward Israel.

How do we deal with the “I feel argument”

In the present culture it seems that how people feel and how vigorously they pronounce it gives their argument merit. For example, I may feel as if I was born in the wrong era, especially when I fire up the internet each morning to see what new cultural barrier is being breached in the name of “progress”.

Judgment In America?

this would bring God’s judgment on the land. Do you believe this will happen and if so what form might the judgment take, consistent with scripture?

Please Help Me

Q&A-chalkboard

Q. For a very long time now every area in my life has been touched with adversity. I’m in my mid 50’s and still waiting for a mate. I am tormented by temptation so much of the time. My financial situation has plummeted. My health also. Now I just lost my job. I am currently searching for a new church and for ministry to get involved in.

I feel very very displaced in all areas of my life. I feel like Hannah did – I’ve cried out to the Lord. I have others praying for me. I asked the Lord “show me Lord what you want me to know”. I ‘felt’ like the Lord was giving me the scripture “My Grace is sufficient for you”.

I have surrendered my life to the Lord 100% but everything upon everything is just falling apart. I just don’t understand. I feel rejected by God when I see all the people I know moving on with their lives and here I am stuck in a hole (or so it seems) for so many years. Can you help me with this?

Doctors were not sure if our baby would be born healthy or would even make it to term. Our son was born premature, but quite healthy- “a miracle baby”, doctors said. My wife is now cancer free for 7 years- a miracle as well doctors now say.

More On The USA In Prophecy

Q&A-chalkboard

Q. I was reading on another Christian web site some of the reasons why the US is not mentioned in Bible prophecy. One reason is that the US could have such an economic collapse that we wouldn’t be considered a world power any longer. Also possibly Russia or Iran might attack us with EMP weapons prior to their attack on Israel to prevent us from aiding Israel. Then there’s the possibility that the Rapture would have such a devastating effect on the US  we would no longer be considered a world power.

I’ve looked around your web site and don’t seem to find any information on what you think might be the reason the US is not mentioned in Bible prophecy. Could you please discuss what you think is the reason(s) we are not mentioned in Bible prophecy?

The Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ vs the man-made gospel

Possessing the Treasure

by Mike Ratliff

(Galatians 1:11-12 NA28)

11 For I make known to you brothers, the gospel that I preached, is not according to man. 12 For I neither received it from man nor was I taught it, but I received it through a revelation of Jesus Christ. (Galatians 1:11-12 translated from the NA28 Greek text)

The εὐαγγέλιον or euaggelion, which the word “gospel” above translates, means “good message” or “good news.” What Paul stated in Galatians 1:11,12 is vital for us to grasp. Those of us who are in Christ can proclaim this εὐαγγέλιον for it is a message of very good news about something our Lord Jesus Christ has done on our behalf, but…
