The TPP what you’re not being told
Obama (and GOP congressional leadership) -backed trade bill fails in the House
It’s not over (the House could move to reconsider the bill on Tuesday) but this was a real win and it happened largely because of a bizarre libertarian/conservative/liberal coalition we (and others) had identified which as emerging a couple of weeks ago around the TPP.
Though this vote is only on a piece of the Trans-Pacific trade pact, basically a bone thrown to liberals which allocated money for the retraining of displaced workers, it is an important vote because it means that fast track authority will almost certainly not be granted by Congress. If Dems aren’t going to vote for fast track authority with such money for training, they are very very unlikely to vote for fast track authority without such funds.
And if there is no fast-track authority given, it is unlikely that after debate and amendments the TPP will make it through Congress.
A strange moment in American politics.

The Islamic State’s suspected inroads into America Posted: 14 Jun 2015 09:04 AM PDT U.S. authorities have charged more than three dozen men and women around the country with alleged Islamic State activities. Men outnumber women in those cases by nearly 5 to 1. The average age of the individuals — some have been charged, others have been convicted — is 26. One is a minor. The FBI says that, in a handful of cases, it has disrupted plots targeting U.S. military or law enforcement personnel. Former Christianity Today Editor Praises Tony Campolo’s Call for ‘Full Acceptance’ of Homosexuals Posted: 14 Jun 2015 07:33 AM PDT A former editor of a prominent Christian publication is praising Tony Campolo after he announced this week that he has decided to endorse and speak out for the inclusion of open homosexuals in the Body of Christ—a move that is generating concern among Christians nationwide. “God bless Tony Campolo,” wrote retired Christianity Today editor David Neff on Facebook this week. “He is acting in good faith and is, I think, on the right track.” As previously reported, Campolo, who serves as one of the leaders at Mount Carmel Baptist Church in West Philadelphia—a part of the National Baptist Convention USA and American Baptist Churches USA—made the announcement on Monday. “It has taken countless hours of prayer, study, conversation and emotional turmoil to bring me to the place where I am finally ready to call for the full acceptance of Christian gay couples into the Church,” he wrote in a statement posted to his website. ACLU Seeks to Force Christian Adoption Agencies to Place Children with HomosexualsPosted: 14 Jun 2015 07:28 AM PDT
After the governor of Michigan signed a bill into law this week allowing private adoption agencies to decline certain adoptions on religious grounds, the ACLU has vowed to file suit to force agencies to place children with homosexuals. Republican Gov. Rick Snyder signed HB 4188, HB 4189, and HB 4190 on Thursday, bills that reportedly codify existing state law allowing private adoption agencies with state contracts to decline certain prospects due to their sincerely-held religious beliefs. However, those that decline must provide referrals to other agencies that may provide assistance. The bills had passed both the House and Senate on Wednesday, and moved to Snyder’s desk for signing. In addition to protecting the consciences of faith-based adoption agencies, the bills prohibit the government from punishing or taking any “adverse action” against the agencies for acting in accordance with their convictions. The legislation does not mention homosexuals nor any specific class, people group, or other parameter. Disney ‘Blacklists’ former workers after forcing them to train their foreign replacements Posted: 14 Jun 2015 07:16 AM PDT It’s becoming more obvious than ever before that corporations are the ones writing the laws and pulling the strings of elected officials. The average American has grown apathetic toward the government because they feel they no longer have a voice. The Americans’ voices are drowned out by the will of corporations and their oligarchy type of rule. Another glaring example of this rule by a dominant few can be found in the federal government’s H-1B skilled guest worker visa program. In this program, the government is essentially being used as a vehicle to favor cheap foreign workers over American workers. On the surface, the H-1B visa program looks like a compassionate way to give foreign workers opportunities in America and create competition in information and technology career fields. However, at the end of the day, corporations like Disney are using the program to push skilled and experienced American workers out the door so they can bring in cheaper labor. There’s no competition — just coercion. Loyal American workers are being told to train their foreign replacements or lose their severance pay. There’s no compassion, either. After training their foreign replacements, American workers are let go and even put on “black lists.” FULL REPORT The post Disney ‘Blacklists’ former workers after forcing them to train their foreign replacements appeared first on . |
Drought-stricken California – Thieves hijack water tanks, siphon private wells, illegally tap industrial pipelinesPosted: 14 Jun 2015 07:03 AM PDT
Special law enforcement task forces, believe it or not, are reportedly being deployed throughout California to deal with a new crime wave blossoming in what 10 years ago would have been a rather unlikely economic sector: water. The water wars have apparently already begun, as police battle a growing “gray market” for stolen water, with thieves now hijacking water tanks, siphoning private wells and even digging under city streets to illegally tap into industrial water pipelines, according to reports. Persistent drought conditions followed by one of the worst rainy seasons on record is elevating the value of water resources in the Golden State to that of, well, gold. And a decree by California Governor Jerry Brown for businesses and residents to cut water usage by 25% is only further driving this water rush. “The drought is driving the price of water up and you’re starting to see people who are desperate for it willing to get it any way they can,” stated John Coleman, a board member at the East Bay Municipal Utility District, to The Daily Beast. A tanker truck containing 500 gallons of water was recently stolen from a median where it was idling in Oakland, which is located in Coleman’s jurisdiction. The thief has yet to be identified. Strange Objects Spotted Over Loch NessPosted: 14 Jun 2015 06:55 AM PDT
Forget the fabled Loch Ness Monster. Now we’ve got something else just as strange at Scotland’s famous lake where, according to legend, a prehistoric beast makes its home. Move over, Nessie, UFOs seem to take a liking to your backyard. A tourist unexpectedly photographed what looks like a pair of disc-shaped objects flying above the water of the 22-mile-long freshwater lake. Back on April 29, Alan Betts was vacationing in the Scottish Highlands with his wife, Anna, and her parents. They were at a holiday cottage near Urquhart Castle — a longtime monster hunting location. In fact, you can spend your day in front of a computer screen, from anywhere in the world, looking for Nessie via a live Loch Ness web cam. But on this day in April, it wasn’t Nessie that had its picture taken — it was something else. “Alan is quite skeptical about paranormal things in general. I am not,” Anna Betts told The Huffington Post in an email from the UK. “I believe in what human beings sometimes can’t see or explain. I am quite a spiritual person overall. However, I have been quite skeptical about UFOs in particular — up until now. FULL REPORT The post Strange Objects Spotted Over Loch Ness appeared first on . |
Thousands of dead fish found on a beach in France Posted: 13 Jun 2015 02:04 PM PDT About 10 000 dead fish were found last Friday stranded on a beach in the natural reserve of Moëze-Oléron in St. Froult. For now, the reasons for this mysterious massacre remains unknown. Nature reserve managers had never seen it. It is they who discovered Friday, thousands of dead fish, and even today they are struggling to estimate the extent of the carnage: 10,000 certainly more fish, all washed up on the beach. “The beach where they are stranded is nearly 5 kilometers long and there was a dead fish every ten meters in places but it was 20 or 30 fish were found every ten meters,” explains Pierre Rousseau, Babysitting technician wetland nature reserve Moëze-Oléron. USA Poised to Put Heavy Weaponry in East EuropePosted: 13 Jun 2015 01:45 PM PDT
In a significant move to deter possible Russian aggression in Europe, the Pentagon is poised to store battle tanks, infantry fighting vehicles and other heavy weapons for as many as 5,000 American troops in several Baltic and Eastern European countries, American and allied officials say. The proposal, if approved, would represent the first time since the end of the Cold War that the United States has stationed heavy military equipment in the newer NATO member nations in Eastern Europe that had once been part of the Soviet sphere of influence. Russia’s annexation of Crimea and the war in eastern Ukraine have caused alarm and prompted new military planning in NATO capitals. It would be the most prominent of a series of moves the United States and NATO have taken to bolster forces in the region and send a clear message of resolve to allies and to Russia’s president, Vladimir V. Putin, that the United States would defend the alliance’s members closest to the Russian frontier. FULL REPORT The post USA Poised to Put Heavy Weaponry in East Europe appeared first on . |
China Conducts Fourth Test of Strategic Nuclear Delivery Vehicle Posted: 13 Jun 2015 07:29 AM PDT China this week conducted the fourth successful test of a new hypersonic vehicle which is capable of delivering nuclear strikes and may be able to render US anti-missile defense systems “obsolete.” The test of the Wu-14 hypersonic strike vehicle was carried out Sunday, launched atop a ballistic missile fired from a test facility in western China, the Washington Free Beacon reported. The vehicle executed “extreme maneuvers” that intelligence officials say are meant to test the ability to dodge US anti-missile defense systems. Sunday marked the fourth test in 18 months, after previous experiments last year in January, August and December, the Free Beacon reported. The frequency of the tests show China’s commitment to developing the new weapon. The Wu-14 travels high in the atmosphere on the edge of space while carrying nuclear or conventional warheads. The high-tech vehicle also can travel at speeds of up to 10 times the speed of sound or around 7,680 miles per hour. The Bilderberg conference: world government or mythical secret clique?Posted: 13 Jun 2015 07:24 AM PDT
What was Jürgen Trittin’s business in Chantilly, US in 2012? His fellow Green party members demanded of him at the time. The question itself revealed a certain amount of dissatisfaction, because the answer was well-known: the Green parliamentary party leader had attended the Bilderberg conference. This was viewed as an affront to the party. A left-winger participating in a secret wheeling-and-dealing forum for the rich and powerful – it was unheard of. Trittin, casting around for an explanation, pointed out that green opinions had to be represented in particular where they were not yet getting the support of a majority. Bilderberg attendees subject themselves to specific rules of participation. The most important one is known as the “Chatham House Rule” (in place since 1927, established at the time by the Royal Institute of International Affairs) and obliges every conference attendee to observe absolute confidentiality with respect to conversation content and speakers’ statements. Unsurprisingly, this meeting point of the power wielders draws criticism year after year (the 2015 conference starts on Thursday, 11 June, and ends on Sunday, 14 June), due to its lack of transparency. Officials say avian flu is headed for North CarolinaPosted: 13 Jun 2015 07:20 AM PDT
State officials are taking steps to prevent the avian flu from spreading to birds in North Carolina. On Wednesday, the Agriculture Department addressed the growing concern at the N.C. State Fairgrounds. Avian flu has caused the price of eggs to spike higher than they have in more than 60 years. The biggest threat to the state’s poultry industry will come next fall during the migratory bird season. Scientists believe avian flu is spread by wild waterfowl and because of that, state agriculture officials decided ban all poultry shows and public sales from mid-August to mid-January. Right now the avian flu is spreading from the Northwest to the Midwest, already hitting 20 states. But it could easily move south when wild waterfowl begin migrating in that direction in just a few months. North Carolina’s $18 billion poultry industry isn’t sitting by idly, waiting to see what happens. “We know this is going to affect a number of poultry shows and kids who have planned to exhibit at their county fair or their state fair,” said NC Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler. MERS forces total sealing off of two hospitalsPosted: 13 Jun 2015 07:15 AM PDT
The Ministry of Health and Welfare Thursday sealed off two hospitals for the first time in the outbreak of Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS) to prevent the kind of mass infections that came out of Pyeongtaek St. Mary’s Hospital and Samsung Medical Center. Mediheal Medical Center in Seoul and Changwon SK Hospital in Changwon, South Gyeongsang, have been sealed off from the world. Patients and staff can’t leave and no one can enter or visit the facilities. Each of the staff gave care to patients who were considered highly infectious. Patient No. 98, who was infected with the disease by Patient No. 14 at Samsung Medical Center, was hospitalized at Mediheal Medical Center in Yangcheon District, southwestern Seoul, for three days from June 4. “Patient No. 98 was at Mediheal Medical Center while he was very infectious,” said Seoul Mayor Park Won-soon in a meeting with 25 district governors of Seoul on Thursday. “We need a complete quarantine to prevent it from becoming the second Samsung Medical Center.” Changwon SK Hospital is where Patient No. 115 was treated and currently 37 patients, nine of their relatives and 32 medical staff members are being isolated. Indonesia’s Mount Sinabung unleashes new powerful burstPosted: 13 Jun 2015 06:59 AM PDT
A volcano in western Indonesia unleashed a new powerful burst high into the sky on Saturday, sending hot ash far down the mountain’s slopes, an official said. Authorities have been closely monitoring 2,460-meter (8,070-foot) -high Mount Sinabung on Sumatra, one of Indonesia’s main islands, since June 2, when its status was raised to the highest alert level due to the growing size of its lava dome. Hot ash tumbled down the slopes of the mountain as far as 3 kilometers (2 miles) southeastward on Saturday, said Wendy Cahya, an official at the mountain’s monitoring post. No injuries were reported from the latest eruption, he said. Cahya said that as of Saturday evening, 11 avalanches of hot ash had been recorded, with volcanic ash released as high as 2 kilometers (1.2 miles) into the air. Swarm of earthquakes rattles rural Alabama; reason unclearPosted: 13 Jun 2015 06:53 AM PDT
Jim Sterling didn’t know what had hit his 156-year-old antebellum home when an earthquake struck Alabama’s old plantation region early one morning last November. Startled, he grabbed a gun and ran outdoors. In the pre-dawn chill, Sterling said, he found an odd scene: horses were galloping, cows mooing and dogs barking. “I heard a boom and felt the shaking,” Sterling said. “It really upset me.” More than a dozen weak earthquakes have followed in the seven months since in west Alabama’s rural Greene County, and geologists are trying to figure out what is causing the seismic swarm in an area of the South more prone to tornadoes than earthquakes. “It is interesting that recently there has been more activity there than in the last four decades,” said Sandy Ebersole, an earthquake expert with the Geological Survey of Alabama. Will The World Turn On Israel This September?Posted: 12 Jun 2015 07:23 PM PDT
Israel wishes to delay the signing of a nuclear deal between world powers and Iran, but not solely because such an agreement would be dangerous to the Jewish State. The concern is that immediately following such an agreement, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict will become the UN Security Council’s and European Union’s top priority, and the international community will be freed up to deal with the party it sees as responsible for the stagnation in the peace process – Israel. This is the widely-held assumption in off-the-record conversations among diplomatic sources in New York and in Washington. “A diplomatic attack against Israel is expected soon that will surprise even the pessimists in Jerusalem,” a senior Western diplomat told The Jerusalem Post’s Hebrew-language sister publication, Ma’ariv. “In the Security Council, in western capitals and at EU headquarters, they are just waiting for the Iran deal to be signed and for it to be approved by the American Congress.” The estimate is that the forced period of waiting will end in September. Then, as the UN General Assembly opens, the signal will be given to start the diplomatic attack against Israel. Bird flu in Arizona? 4 AZ facilities quarantined, egg prices on risePosted: 12 Jun 2015 07:07 PM PDT
Bird flu might have found its way to Arizona. The Department of Agriculture is investigating the state’s first potential cases of avian influenza. And consumers are already feeling the impact in the form of rising egg prices. Friday, we found that cartons holding a dozen eggs were priced about a dollar more than usual. However, there does not seem to be a shortage of eggs. The birds in question — 13 quail and chickens and about 40 quail and partridge eggs — were shipped from Iowa, which is one of several states where bird flu has been confirmed. It was first detected there in April and has affected more than 30.7 million birds so far. Iowa has the most reported bird flu detections — 74, as of this writing — and the largest number of affected birds in the U.S. According to the Department of Agriculture birds at the Iowa facility became sick a short time after the Arizona-bound shipment left the site. The initial test results were positive for H5 avian influenza. FULL REPORT

Southern Baptists see another year of declinePosted: 12 Jun 2015 07:00 PM PDT
The Southern Baptist Convention lost more than 200,000 members in 2014 and saw the lowest number of baptisms since 1947. Total membership in the nation’s largest Protestant denomination was just under 15.5 million last year, according to an annual report by Lifeway Christian Resources, the denomination’s publishing arm. That’s down from 15.7 million in 2013. It also marks the eighth straight year of declining membership. The number of baptisms has declined in eight of the past 10 years, according to the denomination. In2014,baptisms declined by more than 5,000 to just over 305,000. Baptisms are an important measure for the denomination because of its strong commitment to evangelism. The statistics were released on Wednesday just ahead of the group’s annual meeting next week in Columbus, Ohio. DAYS OF LOT – Most Americans expect Supreme Court to OK gay marriagePosted: 12 Jun 2015 06:51 PM PDT
Nearly two-thirds of Americans expect the Supreme Court to legalize same-sex marriage nationwide when it rules on the issue within the next few weeks, according to a new poll. Only 25 percent expect the high court to leave existing state bans on gay marriage intact, while 65 percent expect the bans to be overturned, according to the poll conducted by the nonpartisan Public Religion Research Institute. Its nationwide survey of 1,009 adults was conducted from June 3 to June 7. Mirroring the findings of several other recent national polls, the new survey found 55 percent of Americans in favor of allowing gay and lesbian couples to marry legally, and 37 percent opposed. Among those who oppose same-sex marriage, 72 percent say the decision about its legality should be made at the state level. Among those who favor same-sex marriage, 59 percent say the issue should be decided at the national level. At the moment, same-sex marriages are allowed in 36 states. Religious leaders ‘Obey God Rather than Men’ in Open Letter to U.S. Supreme Court
by Marsha West
Christian Examiner reports:
Setting aside theological differences, 85 Protestant, Catholic, Orthodox Christian, and Jewish leaders joined civic and business leaders in signing an open letter to the U.S. Supreme court published in a June 10 ad in the Washington Post, vowing to disobey any court mandate which would force them to operate from any definition of marriage apart from a union between one man and one woman.
“We ask you not to force us to choose between the state and the Laws of God. We are Christians who love America and who respect the legitimate rule of law,” the religious leaders wrote. “However, we will not honor any decision by the Supreme Court which will force us to violate a clear biblical understanding of marriage as solely the union of one man and one woman.”
Girl Scouts Of America Hire An Open Lesbian As New Executive ‘Girl Experience Officer’
As millions of moms consider digging into pocketbooks for Girl Scout cookies this year, they may be interested to know about the hiring of Krista Kokjohn-Poehler in the Girl Scouts executive office in New York City.
EDITOR’S NOTE: With the hiring of an open lesbian to set company policy on “girl experience”, the Girl Scouts of America have sent a very strong message that they fully intend to use their organization to recruit and indoctrinate for the LGBT. Boycotting Girl Scout cookies is no longer good enough. Mothers of America, it’s time pull your daughter out of GSA for good.
Krista Kokjohn-Poehler is an out lesbian married to a woman named Ashley Kokjohn. And, given her sexual preference, it may strike some as odd that her job title is “Girl Experience Officer.”
Her hiring five months ago was largely missed by the coterie of Girl Scout critics around the country who make the claim that the Girl Scouts have drifted leftward in the past 20 years.
According to her LinkedIn profile, as “Chief Girl Experience Officer,” Kokjohn-Poehler will “serve as the chief of girl innovation and be the expert on and organizational voice for girls. Lead the “Girl Experience” team in efforts to take insights from marketplace data and collaborate internally and externally to drive program innovation.”
The main charge leveled by Girl Scout critics concerns the leftward drift of the Girl Scouts, which was founded along conservative religious principles. The leftward drift began in the early ’90s when God was made optional in the Girl Scout promise. This precipitated the founding of American Heritage Girls and the first widespread exit from the Girl Scouts.
It’s time to make the switch to American Heritage Girls:
Penny Nance, former Girl Scout and president of Concerned Women for America said, “In the last ten years the Girl Scouts have lost about a few hundred thousand members, and part of the reason for that is their tone deafness toward the cultural values of American moms.”
Nance tells the story of a run-in her daughter had with Girl Scout hero Gloria Steinem. Nance’s daughter appeared with Steinem on a Nickelodeon panel show talking about women’s issues. Her daughter defended the pro-life position on air. According to Nance, during a break “with no parents present,” Steinem allegedly approached her daughter and bragged about having an abortion and said she was happy about it.
“And these are the types of people celebrated by the Girl Scouts?” asked Nance.
In recent days, top Girl Scout execs, including CEO Anna Marie Chavez, have tried to beat back the ongoing cookie boycott started a month ago that threatens the much needed $700 million annual sales to fund Girl Scout activities. source

(CN) — Republicans in Idaho have proposed a resolution calling for support for using the Bible alongside public school curriculum.
Resolution 2015-P20 was submitted by Idaho County Chairman Marge Arnzen, and uses national and state history as the basis of the motion.
“[I]n 1782, the U.S. Congress voted this resolution: ‘The Congress of the United States recommends and approves the Holy Bible for use in all schools,’ and authorized a loan of money to help the printing and distribution of 10,000 copies to be made available to the public primarily for public schools,’” it notes.
