The U.S. is in an “inevitable relative decline in worldwide influence” due to the rise of China, India, and other developing economies, former President Jimmy Carter said Tuesday. “As they increase in economic and cultural influence, it will replace a lot of the power and preeminence the U.S. has enjoyed in the past.”

Obama Plans to Debate Islamic State Into Submission

Barack Obama should be more up front with what he’s trying to do to the Islamic State. Why doesn’t he just say he’s practicing a strategy of non-intervention? On Monday, Obama touted the “success” of his strategy to “degrade and ultimately destroy” the Islamic State. Still, he had one caveat: “Our strategy recognizes that no amount of military force will end the terror that is ISIL unless it’s matched by a broader effort — political and economic — that addresses the underlying conditions that have allowed ISIL to gain traction. … Ultimately, in order for us to defeat terrorist groups like ISIL and al-Qaida, it’s going to also require us to discredit their ideology. This broader challenge of countering violent extremism is not simply a military effort. Ideologies are not defeated with guns; they’re defeated by better ideas — a more attractive and more compelling vision.” Clearly, we didn’t win independence from Britain with superior debating skills, nor did we defeat the Nazis or Soviets with speeches. Debate works amidst a civil society, but not when one side is enslaving minorities, burning prisoners alive and beheading others, while vowing further violence against people with whom it disagrees. On the flip side, if Obama believes no further debate can be had and the gloves must come off, there’s always the IRS.

South Carolina Nears Removing Confederate Flag

The nation is one step closer to finally solving the racism Rubik’s cube once and for all. No, not really, but the South Carolina Senate did just vote 37-3 to remove what’s commonly known as the Confederate flag from the capitol grounds. After a formality of a third vote, the measure moves to the state House, and what Republican Gov. Nikki Haley recently said was not “going to be easy” or “painless” will have turned out to be rather easy and relatively painless. The debate over the flag began with the horrific murders of nine blacks at a church in Charleston by a racist thug who took a picture with a Confederate flag. As far as public debate was concerned, that cemented the connection between the flag and racism. It’s one thing to remove the flag from state grounds — a flag put there by a Democrat governor, by the way, and kept there in a compromise supported by slain Rev. Clementa Pinckney. But it’s something else entirely to try to purge the flag from every store shelf, TV show or NASCAR race, while leaving untouched symbols of Nazism and Communism — ideologies that still exist and are still killing people. The bottom line is that the Left is intent on blaming all Southerners — especially Republicans — for slavery and all racism.

No, Polar Bears Won’t Face Existential Threat Within 10 Years

2015-07-02-061f0fb8_large.png

In 2009, then-Sen. John Kerry said, “Scientists project that the Arctic will be ice-free in the summer of 2013.” In that same year, Al Gore reiterated the claim: “Some of the models suggest that there is a 75 percent chance that the entire north polar ice cap during some of the summer months will be completely ice-free within the next five to seven years.” Without ice, polar bears have a tough time surviving, and sadly we had to bid farewell to this wonderful creature a few short years ago because we failed to heed the warning. Actually, no, that’s not at all true. Not only has the Arctic retained a considerable amount of ice in recent summers, but polar bears are thriving. Earlier this year, Dr. Susan Crockford of the Global Warming Policy Foundation discovered, “On almost every measure, things are looking good for polar bears. Scientists are finding that they are well distributed throughout their range and adapting well to changes in sea ice. Health indicators are good and they are benefiting from abundant prey.” With roughly 25,000 polar bears estimated to be roaming the Arctic, up from 5,000 in the ’60s, the alarm should over. But it’s not.

According to a new report from the U.S. Geological Survey, computer models suggest nearly one-third of polar bears could be wiped off the planet in 10 years as greenhouse gas emissions rise. Let’s get this straight: The same scientific lobby that warned decades ago polar bears would be extinct by now — but which instead grew in population — are now telling us that a significant percentage of bears could face eradication within a decade based on computer models. The same computer models that utterly failed to forecast the current 18-year-old global warming hiatus. That kind of logic is enough to make even a polar bear do a facepalm.

Sanctuary Cities and Obama’s Failed Immigration Policies

By Paul Albaugh

2015-07-07-c7fbd02c_large.jpg

Last Wednesday in San Francisco, an illegal immigrant named Francisco Sanchez murdered Kathryn Steinle. While Sanchez alone is responsible for his crime, Steinle just might be alive had it not been for bad immigration policy from the Obama administration, and likewise the city of San Francisco.

The fact is Sanchez should not have been in the United States at all. Sanchez had already been convicted of seven felonies and deported five times before this murder. Yet he chose San Francisco as his dwelling because it’s a “sanctuary city.”

Sanctuary cities for illegal immigrants, that is. Cities like San Francisco that adopt such policies typically don’t necessarily seek out undocumented immigrants, but they also don’t enforce deportation, which yields the same result. These cities — primarily run by Democrats — have a policy in place that benefits illegal aliens at the expense of citizens. Such a policy is detrimental to these communities, as evidenced by this recent killing, and the politicos responsible for this terrible policy should be held accountable.

Democrats, of course, claim creating sanctuary cities is good policy. One such enlightened progressive is Hillary Clinton, who claimed in a 2007 speech at Dartmouth College that sanctuary cities help to ensure the “personal safety and security of all the citizens.” (Note the particular irony of using the word “citizens.”) Furthermore, she claimed that if local police officers acted like immigration enforcement officers, then people would be hiding from the police instead of reporting crime.

We’re still waiting for the Leftmedia to question Hillary on her continued support of this policy, but the noise from Donald Trump’s recent bombast on immigration seems to be drowning that out. It would be a prime opportunity for serious conservative candidates to say something about the failed policy of sanctuary cities, but so far most of them are missing it.

Sanctuary cities aren’t the only problem with immigration policy. There is a massive problem at the federal level too, which is one of the reasons Sanchez wasn’t kept out of the U.S. for good. Yet he is just one of the many illegal immigrants who remain in or return to the U.S. because of a faulty deportation process.

Recent documents from the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) show that “about 900,000 undocumented immigrants, including 170,000 criminals, have been ordered deported ‘in absentia,’ meaning a judge kicked them out without them even knowing it.” How can someone be deported for being here illegally when they don’t even know they have been ordered to leave?

Jessica Vaughn, director of policy studies at CIS, notes, “[E]ven those immigrants who are in court to receive their removal orders are not immediately removed. Instead, they are often told to report in with Immigrations and Customs Enforcement — but often vanish.”

Certainly there could be more and better detention centers to hold these illegal aliens. After all, does anyone really think that someone who is here illegally would turn themselves into Immigration and Customs Enforcement? Apparently the Department of Homeland Security doesn’t see the need for more detention facilities, as it has sought new rules that will loosen detention policies.

According to a recent DHS release, “[O]nce a family has established eligibility for asylum or other relief under our laws, long-term detention is an inefficient use of our resources and should be discontinued.” Can the Department of Homeland Security explain how this bolsters homeland security?

Not surprisingly, Obama spokesman Josh Earnest took to the stage Monday to not only defend the administration’s immigration policies but to blast Republicans for blocking “common-sense” immigration reform.

Of course, Obama’s version of common-sense immigration reform was nonsense. Democrats have made the issue of immigration a divisive one for their own political benefit. Forget security, they are worried about votes.

Republicans, on the other hand, need to do a better job at explaining how they are going to fix immigration policy. And there are basically four points to drive home:

First, the “immigration reform” pledges by Obama and his Democrat lackeys are disingenuous because they would undermine the Left’s entire “living wage” platform. Allowing 5-10 million immigrants to compete for low-wage jobs is certainly not consistent with that agenda.

Second, Obama is willing to trash the Constitution in order to advance his ruinous policies. Republicans need to use his abject abuse of power and the threat it poses to Liberty as a constitutional teachable moment.

Third, any debate about immigration is useless unless it begins with a commitment to securing our borders first. That includes eliminating sanctuary cities. As Ronald Reagan declared, “A nation without borders is not a nation.” Likewise, it must address the issue of so-called “birthright citizenship,” which is a gross misinterpretation of our Constitution’s 14th Amendment.

And last, Republicans need to embrace the fact that Liberty is colorblind. It’s not a “white thing.” Essential Liberty is timeless. And because it transcends all racial, ethnic, gender and class distinctions, it will appeal to all freedom-loving people when properly presented.

In the end, Americans like Kathryn Steinle shouldn’t pay the ultimate price for Democrats’ vote-buying schemes.

OPINION IN BRIEF

Cal Thomas: “The ‘culture wars,’ while well-intentioned, were a mistake from the beginning. Evangelical Christians, whose Leader said, ‘My Kingdom is not of this world,’ thought they could organize people of like mind and like faith and create a voting bloc to elect people who would impose something resembling that other kingdom on people who do not see themselves as members of that kingdom. Given the number of politicians who seem to have difficulty imposing a moral code of any sort on themselves, such a strategy was doomed from the start. Why didn’t they learn from previous ‘moral improvement’ movements that if one wants to change culture, one must first change individuals? For evangelical Christians that can only be done by the transformation of the heart, soul and mind, something that is beyond the power of secular — or even religious — politicians. … The country grows increasingly secular in part because conservative evangelicals gave the impression that being born again means instant adoption into the Republican Party. … [T]his isn’t about surrender; it is about enlisting in a different ‘army,’ using more powerful nonpolitical weapons. Google ‘Beatitudes’ and see what I mean. Practice them and observe the impact they have on the culture.”

SHORT CUTS

Insight: “All our liberties are due to men who, when their conscience has compelled them, have broken the laws of the land.” —English philosopher William Kingdon Clifford (1845-1879)

Upright: “Today the moral horror of slavery is so widely condemned that it is hard to realize that there were thousands of years when slavery was practiced around the world by people of virtually every race. Even the leading moral and religious thinkers in different societies accepted slavery as just a fact of life. … What was special about America was not that it had slavery, which existed all over the world, but that Americans were among the very few peoples who began to question the morality of holding human beings in bondage. That was not yet a majority view among Americans in the 18th century, but it was not even a serious minority view in non-Western societies at that time.” —Thomas Sowell

Gun rights: “The discussion over the debate to own a gun is just ridiculous. As Americans we have the right to bear arms and as humans the right to protect ourselves. I’m sure that the man who shot my husband did not have a gun permit. Criminals will always have guns. The rest of us legally obtain our gun permits. If you don’t want to carry, please don’t. Then, shut the f— up about it.” —former CNN anchor Lynne Russell, whose husband killed an armed assailant last week

And last… “Solution to Supreme Court is make it like jury duty. Grab people off the street to rule based on plain meaning of language in Constitution. The Constitution is a frick’n six page document. Doesn’t require years as a judge to understand anymore than rules to Monopoly.” —Frank Fleming

Bare Supermarket Shelves In Greece Should Be A Huge Wake Up Call To Millions Of Clueless Americans

Supermarket In Greece - Photo posted by Vasilis Dalianis On TwitterWhat you are watching unfold in Greece right now is eventually going to come to your own neighborhood.  Someday, people living all around you will be storming the supermarkets in a desperate attempt to secure the food and supplies that they neglected to store up when they had the chance.  Of course the Greeks never thought that it would happen to them either.  Their civilization had endured for thousands of years, and they were a part of the most powerful economic alliance on the face of the planet.  Most Greeks never imagined that they would be plunged into a multi-year economic depression that would ultimately lead to “bank holidays”, long lines at ATM machines, and people diving into dumpsters in a frantic search for something to sell.  And this is just the beginning of the chaos in Greece – things are going to get much, much worse for them.  Hopefully, this will serve as a wake up call for millions upon millions of clueless Americans out there, because we are on the exact same path that Greece has gone down.  The sad truth is that no amount of “American exceptionalism” is going to prevent us from suffering the consequences of decades of very foolish decisions.  We are steamrolling toward our own version of economic collapse, and when that time arrives you don’t want to be caught totally unprepared for it. The German Siege Of Greece Begins (No, This Is Not A Repeat From 1941)

Siege - Public DomainDid you notice that Greece’s creditors are not rushing to offer the Greeks a new deal in the wake of the stunning referendum result on Sunday?  In fact, it is being reported that the initial reaction to the “no” vote from top European politicians was “a thunderous silence“.  Needless to say, the European elite were not pleased by how the Greek people voted, but they still have all of the leverage.  In particular, it is the Germans that are holding all of the cards.  If the Germans want to cave in and give the Greeks the kind of deal that they desire, everyone else would follow suit.  And if the Germans want to maintain a hard line with Greece, they can block any deal from happening all by themselves.  So in the final analysis, this is really an economic test of wills between Germany and Greece, and time is on Germany’s side.  Germany doesn’t have to offer anything new.  The Germans can just sit back and wait for the Greek government to default on their debts, for Greek banks to totally run out of cash and for civil unrest to erupt in Greek cities as the economy grinds to a standstill. Even those who consider themselves “Christian” will continue to stray from right doctrine, he said, choosing instead to blend in with the ways of Western culture.

He said the world has entered what the apostle Paul called the “falling away” or the apostasy. This period, which marks the beginning of the “end of the age” and the soon return of Jesus Christ, will be similar to the period at the beginning of the age, when pagan Rome viciously persecuted the followers of Jesus.

The McAvany Intel Memo

We live in a time when almost everything coming out of government, the Obama Administration, the Fed, Wall Street, or the mainline media is completely false, deceptive, and manipulative – all self serving lies. It has been said that “truth is the first victim of war,” and that is true. It is also true that “truth is the first victim of socialism, tyranny, and despots” and that is incredibly true in our day as well.

As the political left has almost completely taken over America in recent years, the government/Fed/Wall Street/media lies and distortions have exploded. Think about what Wall Street has told the gullible public over the past 15 years – about the dot-com bubble, about the real estate and credit default derivatives bubbles, and the US economy – all self-serving lies.

Think about what the government told us about WMDs in Saddam Hussein’s hands, about the Ukraine, about its support for the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt, about Benghazi and Libya, about Obamacare, about total surveillance “for our protection,” and 1001 other lies and deceptions – all self-serving lies. Think about the non-stop manipulation in the gold market right up to this very day and all the government/Fed/Wall Street lies and distortions regarding gold and all markets.

Kenyan Lawmakers Warn Obama Against Bringing LGBT Same-Sex Agenda To Africa

Obama should not try to push his gay agenda in Kenya, lawmakers warn

EDITOR’S NOTE: Having turned America into a modern-day Sodom and Gomorrah, US president Barack Obama wants to bring his rainbow gospel to Africa. But the Africans, who are very pro-family, anti-abortion and anti-same sex marriage, have a stern warning for him should he try to do that. They said “we shall tell him to shut up and go home”.  Amen.

NAIROBI – Mobs of Kenyans rallied in Nairobi on Monday against homosexuality and a lawmaker warned U.S. President Barack Obama should not push a pro-gay agenda when he visits the country later this month.

Anti-gay activists including religious leaders and Members of Parliament staged a demo in Nairobi calling on Obama to refrain from discussing homosexuality terming it “abhorrence” against known faiths.

Obama has hailed last month’s U.S. Supreme Court decision to allow same-sex marriage but few share his views in Kenya or other African countries, where more socially and religiously conservative views generally prevail.

African MP’s and religious leaders stage anti-gay protest ahead of Obama visit

“We are telling Mr Obama when he comes to Kenya this month and he tries to bring the abortion agenda, the LGBT gay agenda, we shall tell him to shut up and go home,” lawmaker Irungu Kangata told the demonstrators outside parliament.

Many of the Nairobi demonstrators wore t-shirts with the slogans “Protect The Family March” and “Stand with the Family“. source

Oregon silences bakers who refused to make cake for gay wedding

http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2015/07/06/state-silences-bakers-who-refused-to-bake-cake-for-lesbians.html/

Todd Starnes, host of Fox News and Commentary, once predicted that when gay marriage was legalized, LGBTQIA supports would attempt to silence all dissent. Well, the rainbow dust hasn’t settled yet and the powerful homosexual lobby is moving full throttle to achieve their goals, one of which is to silence anyone who speaks for God. What they don’t realize–yet–is that God always wins. Accroding to Starnes:

the state ordered owners Aaron and Melissa Klein to pay $135,000 in damages to a lesbian couple they turned away in 2013.

The state also slapped a gag order on the evangelical Christian bakers – banning them from speaking publicly about their refusal to participate in or bake wedding cakes for same-sex unions.

Pastors Plan to Protest Unveiling of Satanic Statue in Detroit

Posted: 07 Jul 2015 07:47 AM PDT

A group of pastors in Detroit plan to protest the unveiling of a Satanic statue later this month, which was sought to be placed next to a Ten Commandments monument on the grounds of the Oklahoma state capitol building. As previously reported, the New York-based Satanic Temple issued a news release about its intentions in 2013 following the filing of a lawsuit by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), which asserted that the presence of the Ten Commandments display on government property violated the Establishment Clause of the United States Constitution.

The Satanic Temple said that it offered to to donate a statue of Baphomet to be placed near the Ten Commandments display in order to “appease the ACLU’s concerns.” “The statue will serve as a beacon calling for compassion and empathy among all living creatures,” spokesperson Lucien Greaves explained in his application to the Oklahoma Capitol Preservation Commission. “The statue will also have a functional purpose as a chair where people of all ages may sit on the lap of Satan for inspiration and contemplation.” FULL REPORT

El Nino Gets Reinforced by Cyclones as Event to Last Until 2016

Posted: 07 Jul 2015 07:42 AM PDT

The El Nino forming across the Pacific has been turbocharged by a series of tropical cyclones that helped to shift the direction of trade winds, potentially adding to warming that’s evoking parallels with the record 1997-98 event. Several cyclones, including a rare storm in the Southern Hemisphere this month, resulted in a strong reversal of trade winds near the equator, Australia’s Bureau of Meteorology said on its website on Tuesday. That’s set to increase temperatures below the surface, which then may raise sea-surface temperatures further in the coming months, it said in a fortnightly update.

El Ninos can affect weather worldwide by baking Asia, dumping rain across South America and bringing cooler summers to North America. This year’s pattern, the first since 2010, will probably bring warmer, drier weather to palm oil regions in Southeast Asia, Malayan Banking Banking Bhd. warned on Tuesday. Tropical commodities including palm oil are to be favored over other raw materials such as gold and copper this half as the El Nino raises risks, according to Oversea-Chinese Banking Corp. Children’s Mysterious Paralysis Tied to New Virus

Posted: 07 Jul 2015 07:36 AM PDT

Mysterious cases of paralysis in U.S. children over the last year have researchers searching for the cause of the illness. Now, a new study suggests that a new strain of a poliolike virus may be responsible for some of the cases. So far, more than 100 children in 34 states have suddenly developed muscle weakness or paralysis in their arms or legs, a condition known as acute flaccid myelitis, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Previously, researchers linked a virus called enterovirus D68 (EV-D68), which can cause respiratory illness similar to the common cold, with some of these cases. But only about 20 percent of children with paralysis tested positive for EV-D68, and even in these cases, it wasn’t clear if EV-D68 was the cause of the child’s condition. DONALD TRUMP – ‘Infectious disease pouring across border’

Posted: 07 Jul 2015 07:31 AM PDT

Donald Trump doubled down on his controversial comments about illegal immigration from Mexico on Monday, saying that “infectious disease is pouring across the border.” Trump issued a lengthy — nearly 900 word — statement invoking the death of a San Francisco woman shot and killed last week by a suspect who had previously been deported to Mexico five times. “This is merely one of thousands of similar incidents throughout the United States,” Trump said Monday.

“In other words, the worst elements in Mexico are being pushed into the United States by the Mexican government.”The 2016 Republican presidential candidate said that Mexican drug cartels are using immigrants to smuggle heroin, cocaine and other illicit drugs into the United States.  “The Border Patrol knows this. Likewise, tremendous infectious disease is pouring across the border,” Trump continued. FULL REPORT

Economic hardships in Puerto Rico spur mass exodus to USA mainland

Posted: 07 Jul 2015 07:23 AM PDT

Yessenia Puente is disenchanted with the Isla del Encanto. She became a widow six years ago. Public schools don’t provide a safe environment for her three children. Her income as a hotel manager barely covers living expenses, much less private school tuition. And every two days, she must contend with no running water at home due to water rationing measures imposed by the government in response to a prolonged drought.

So on the same day that a new 11.5 percent consumer tax took effect last week , a moving truck showed up at Puente’s apartment in the Carolina suburb of San Juan to load up her belongings for shipment to Orlando. The boxes were marked with “#1465” — that is the number of families this one moving company, La Rosa del Monte, has packed for Orlando since January. “I’ve been thinking about it for a while because I’ve seen how things are deteriorating,” said Puente, 35. “But with everything happening now, I decided it’s time to go. The system doesn’t work here.” FULL REPORT

Man rips Confederate flag off semi truck — in middle of moving traffic…

Posted: 07 Jul 2015 07:18 AM PDT

Some people are so whipped up over the Confederate flag — and eager to silence the free speech of others — they’re willing to be run over by moving vehicles to do it. Video captures a man running up to a semi in slow-moving traffic on the highway to rip off a Confederate flag from the truck’s tailgate. The Grio, a black news website, grabbed the video from Twitter and posted it, adding James Brown’s “The Payback.”

The video shows the unidentified man trotting behind the truck, struggling to remove the flag. After several moments, he rips it off and gets out of the road. The site reports the truck “appears to be a part of ‘TRIBE Transportation, Inc.,’ a company ironically owned by a Native American woman.” For whatever reason, Grio called the company to tell on the driver and get reaction. The New World Order Message In Terminator Genisys Movie Reveals Global Plan

Posted: 06 Jul 2015 07:43 PM PDT

TERMINATOR GENISYS IS A REAL-TIME WARNING TO A SLEEPING WORLD, DARING US TO WAKE UP AND ADDRESS IT.

“For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty.” Revelation 16:14

Let me start by saying that this is not a movie review in the typical sense. Last night, I took my kids to see Terminator Genisys starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, and as we expected it was a non-stop action thriller. But the message that was contained within the plot was more exciting than anything having to do with the movie itself. Terminator Genisys is a real-time message from the New World Order, and it’s “coming soon to a theater near you”, as the old saying goes. Terminator Genisys is a warning to a sleeping world, daring us to wake up and address it. FULL REPORT

SC Senate votes to remove Confederate flag; House OK still needed

Posted: 06 Jul 2015 07:37 PM PDT

The South Carolina Senate voted Monday to pull the Confederate flag off the Capitol grounds, clearing the way for a historic measure that could remove the banner more than five decades after it was first flown above the Statehouse to protest integration. A second vote will be needed Tuesday to send the proposal to the House, where it faces a less certain future. But Monday’s 37-3 vote was well over the two-thirds majority needed to advance the bill.

If the House passes the same measure, the flag and flagpole could be removed as soon as Gov. Nikki Haley signs the papers. The flag would be lowered for the last time and shipped off to the state’s Confederate Relic Room, near where the last Confederate flag to fly over the Statehouse dome is stored. The vote came at the end of a day of debate in which several white senators said they had come to understand why their black colleagues felt the flag no longer represented the valor of Southern soldiers but the racism that led the South to separate from the United States more than 150 years ago. “My Last Day” — the Jesus Anime

9 powerful minutes of animation that begins with a thief behind bars watching the scourging of Jesus, and it ends with the thief dying next to Jesus, and waking to see Him in a beautiful place.

The dying thief: What was so great about his faith?

There are many acts of extraordinary faith in the Bible. The one that has impressed me the most concerns the dying thief on the cross. We could take the approach that he had nothing to lose, so he decided to cast his lot with Jesus. But this makes absolutely no sense of the text and the context.
In this conversion we have a specific fulfillment of Christ’s first words on the cross. No sooner had Christ spoken the words, “Father, forgive them,” had the Father answered that prayer by turning a once-reviling criminal into a Christ-glorifying saint. While the soon-to-be converted criminal was not directly responsible for Christ’s death, he nevertheless joined with those who were and was thus indirectly addressed when Christ asked for God to forgive “them.”
Christ, the sinless one, was numbered with or counted among the transgressors (Isa. 53:12; Luke 22:37), all of whom have a bigger problem than the day-to-day sins they commit. They hate Christ, the God-man. Anyone who has a master other than the Lord Jesus hates him (Lk. 16:13; Gal. 4:8). That these two criminals loathed him is clearly manifested during the crucifixion: “And the robbers who were crucified with him also reviled him in the same way” (Matt. 27:44).
When the criminal who was converted was doing his worst against Christ, Christ was doing his best for this criminal.
The conversion of the one criminal was most extraordinary and testifies to the power of Christ’s prayer and the grace of God. Why?
This criminal’s faith did not come at a time such as when Christ turned water into wine; or performed miracles, such as walking on water, opening the eyes of a blind man, or raising Lazarus from the dead. No! The criminal believed on the Messiah while he was hanging as one cursed upon a tree. The criminal trusted in and boldly defended the one whose disciples had abandoned him. Jesus was at his lowest when this criminal asked to be remembered in Christ’s kingdom.
When he was on the cross, did anyone publicly cry out, as John the Baptist did, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!” (Jn. 1:29)? But this is essentially what the dying thief did. Little wonder, then, that Christ should promise him a place in his kingdom: “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise” (Lk. 23:43).
The criminal acknowledged he was guilty; he acknowledged that Christ was not (“this man has done nothing wrong”); he feared God; but, and here is the key: the criminal did not merely want to be in a better place. He wanted to be with Christ in a better place: “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom” (Lk. 23:42). The criminal believed “against all hope”.
Heaven is a better place because that is where Christ is. Everyone wants to go to heaven, but not everyone wants to go to Christ’s heaven. Not so with this criminal: he saw, with his eyes, Christ at his worst; but with the eyes of faith, he believed that Christ would soon be at his best, and so put his faith in a dying king.
Christ is always – always! – willing to save even the most miserable of sinners. A recognition of guilt (Lk. 23:40) and a confidence in him and not ourselves (Lk. 23:42) will always lead to the most assuring truth a sinner can receive: the Savior welcomes such into his paradise!
“One is saved, and we may not despair; the other is lost, and we may not presume.” Spurgeon

Thoughts on Study Bibles

But study Bibles also have shortcomings. In order to keep the size of the Bible within a reasonable scope (the ESV Study Bible really pushes the envelope here, at almost 2,800 pages) something has to give. Generally what is lost is commentary on the text itself. Comments on difficult passages are often the first to suffer in this regard. Comments can be terse to the point of being incomprehensible. The comments are usually written by specialists on the various books of the Bible, who sometimes do not have a good sense of what the ordinary reader needs.

The Church Will Survive Gay Marriage If It Sticks To Its Guns

“In the book of First Kings, Elijah faced a wave of persecution and mortal danger beyond anything any American has faced on American soil. He felt alone — terrified that all was coming to an end. He declared to God, “I am the only one left, and now they are trying to kill me too.” God’s response echoes through the ages: No, Elijah was not alone.”

“Respect The Authorities”: Introduction

Something Greater Than Marriage

“Defining marriage as being between a husband and a wife appears unfair to the LGBT community, in part because a life of singleness is seen to be crushingly lonely. Have we in the church inadvertently played into that lie with our idolatry of marriage while being pejorative and silent toward singleness? If singleness is unfair, then it’s no wonder marriage has become a right.”

Good Motives Gone Bad

“There are always the tares that grow alongside of the wheat (Matt. 13:36-43). But one does not structure the church to meet the felt needs and desires of the tares. Oregon silences bakers who refused to make cake for gay wedding

Jul 06, 2015 01:46 pm | Marsha West

Todd Starnes, host of Fox News and Commentary, once predicted that when gay marriage was legalized, LGBTQIA supports would attempt to silence all dissent.  Well, the rainbow dust hasn’t settled yet and the powerful homosexual lobby is moving full throttle to achieve their goals, one of which is to silence anyone who speaks for God.  What they don’t […]

(Christian News Network) At least two outspoken homosexual advocates are calling for churches nationwide to lose their tax-exempt status following last month’s U.S. Supreme Court ruling declaring that all 50 states must legalize same-sex “marriage.” “[N]ow that the U.S. government formally recognizes marriage equality as a fundamental right, it really shouldn’t skew the tax code […]

Many Bible believing Christians are members of the HFIB club.  The acronym stands for hate, fear, ignorance and bigotry.  To be inducted into HFIB all one has to do is oppose homosexual “marriage” or—gasp!—proclaim that homosexuality is a sin against a holy God. The Discipline of Loving God’s Beloved

When God commands us to love our neighbor, he is not instructing us to love what he hates. No, we assume that God tells us to love our neighbor because he loves our neighbor. Jesus uses this very logic in the Sermon on the Mount.

You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ “But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, “that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. (Matthew 5:43-45)

Why should we love our enemies? God the Father does it. If God loves his enemies, we can be sure he loves our enemies too. God loves even those who are hateful to him in behavior and character by showering them with mercy.

Churches Refusing to be Salt and Light (Or, Why So Many Pastors are Gutless Wonders)

OK, so we have some new research just out on the American church scene, and boy am I ever surprised – not. The research data is quite simple: most pastors refuse to speak out on the important issues of the day for fear of being controversial. Um, tell me something I don’t already know.

While it is nice to have a bit of social science data confirming what we already knew, it certainly comes as no surprise. I and others have been saying this for years now. Most churches are filled with spineless wonders who would never rock the boat for any reason.

salt and lightThey will never speak out on absolutely vital issues like abortion or the homosexual agenda for fear of getting folks upset, losing their audience, and worst of all, seeing a big drop in the weekly offering. For these and other reasons the cowards in our pulpits are denying truth and denying Christ.

Although this research has to do with the church scene in America, it would be just as true of other Western nations, including Australia. As Sir Weary Dunlop is purported to have once said, “The problem with Australia is that we have wimps in the pulpits and cowards in the pews.”

So just what does this research have to say? Let me quote from one religious news item on this:

On Thursday, George Barna – research expert and founder of The Barna Group – shared with American Family Radio’s “Today’s Issues” about new information he’s compiling at American Culture and Faith Institute over the last two years, gauging where theologically conservative pastors are at politically.
“What we’re finding is that when we ask them about all the key issues of the day, [90 percent of them are] telling us, Yes, the Bible speaks to every one of these issues. Then we ask them: Well, are you teaching your people what the Bible says about those issues? – and the numbers drop … to less than 10 percent of pastors who say they will speak to it.”
When researchers ask those pastors what else they are willing to do to get their people active in the political process, Barna said “it’s almost nothing.”
“So the thing that struck me has been that when we talk about the separation of church and state, it’s that churches have separated themselves from the activities of the state – and that’s to the detriment of the state and its people,” stated the researcher.
Why the disconnect? According to Barna, the answer is simple. He suggests asking pastors how someone would know if their church is “successful” – which he did.
“There are five factors that the vast majority of pastors turn to [when asked that question],” he explained. “Attendance, giving, number of programs, number of staff, and square footage.
“Now all of those things are good measures, except for one tiny fact: Jesus didn’t die for any of them,” Barna continued. “What I’m suggesting is [those pastors] won’t probably get involved in politics because it’s very controversial. Controversy keeps people from being in the seats, controversy keeps people from giving money, from attending programs.

Here are some of the numbers:

Many theologically conservative pastors agree the Bible speaks to key issues of the day, but research indicates only a handful of them say they will speak to it.
What are the most likely reasons a pastor might refrain from preaching what the Bible says about controversial political issues? (Select up to three)
-Distaste for politics 9.03% (265 votes)
-Threat of punishment by ACLU or IRS 31.86% (935 votes)
-Unfamiliar with those issues 7.53% (221 votes)
-Told to do so by elders/deacons 15.78% (463 votes)
-Denominational constraints 13.15% (386 votes)
-Believes politics, church are separate 23% (665 votes)
Total Votes: 2,935

Wow, those are some rather damning stats. I am not alone in being concerned about the deliberate refusal of most pastors to speak out on some of the things that really matter. Chuck Baldwin has also just written a column on this and is worth quoting:

That 90% of America’s pastors are not addressing any of the salient issues affecting Christian people’s political or societal lives should surprise no one–especially the readers of this column. It has been decades since even a sizeable minority of pastors have bothered to educate and inform their congregations as to the Biblical principles relating to America’s political, cultural, and societal lives. But the part of the research that did somewhat surprise me was this statement by Barna: “What we’re finding is that when we ask them about all the key issues of the day, [90 percent of them are] telling us, Yes, the Bible speaks to every one of these issues. Then we ask them: Well, are you teaching your people what the Bible says about those issues?–and the numbers drop…to less than 10 percent of pastors who say they will speak to it.”
Did you get that? Ninety-percent of America’s pastors say they KNOW that the Bible speaks to all of these issues, but they are deliberately determined to NOT teach these Biblical principles. That is an amazing admission!
It would have been one thing if the pastors had said that these political issues were not relevant to scripture; and, therefore, they didn’t feel called to address them. But the pastors are admitting that, yes, they KNOW that the scriptures DO relate to our current political issues; but they are deliberately choosing to NOT teach those scriptural principles. Holy heads-in-the-sand, Batman!
I confess: this statistic caught me off-guard. So, we can forever dismiss ignorance as justification for pastors remaining silent.
Now, all of the church members out there who have been forgiving of their ministers for not speaking out on the issues by saying things like, “He really doesn’t understand what’s going on,” need to reevaluate their leniency–if they are intellectually honest, that is–and if they truly care about the future of their country.
Church member, admit it: that pastor of yours who refuses to speak out on the issues KNOWS the Bible speaks to these issues, and he is DELIBERATELY refusing to teach those Biblical principles to you and your family.
So, we are not dealing with IGNORANT pastors; we are dealing with DELIBERATELY DISOBEDIENT pastors. They are PURPOSELY CHOOSING to remain silent. Will that make any difference to the Christians in the pews who say they want their pastor to take a stand but are willing to overlook his “ignorance?” Probably not. But, at least, we now know what the real issue is, don’t we?

As to the findings about what pastors regard as success, he says this:

Where do you find anything in the New Testament that measures a pastor’s success by the number of people attending his church? Or by how large his offerings are? Or by how many programs his church has? Or by how many staff members he has? Or by how large his facilities are? In fact, the early New Testament church didn’t even own property or buildings.
When the Apostle Paul listed his ministerial pedigree, here is what it looked like (II Cor. 11):
*Stripes above measure
*In prisons frequently
*In deaths often
*Beaten with rods
*Stoned
*Perils
*Weariness
*Painfulness
*Hunger and thirst
*Cold and nakedness
I don’t see attendance, offerings, programs, staff, or square footage in that list at all; do you?
When Paul wrote his own epitaph, it read, “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.” (II Timothy 4:7). He didn’t say, “I had a large congregation, we had big offerings, we had a lot of programs, I had a large staff, and we had large facilities.”
In the world of Osteen, Warren, and Hybels (and 90% of America’s pastors), the Apostle Paul’s ministry must have been a dismal failure. And how many church pulpit committees would even consider the pastoral résumé such as what the Apostle Paul wrote above?
Please understand this: America’s malaise is directly due to the deliberate disobedience of America’s pastors–and the willingness of the Christians in the pews to tolerate the disobedience of their pastor. Nothing more! Nothing less!
Oh, and get this: according to the survey conducted by Barna, guess what the number one reason is why pastors choose to be “successful” and not “controversial?” You guessed it: fear of the IRS 501c3 tax-exempt status. Who would have thought it? (Yes, that question is deliberately facetious.)

Yes all this simply confirms yet again what many of us have already known for a long time now. The churches are losing big time in the West because we have cowards leading our congregations, and the evangellyfish in the pews are quite happy with things that way.

No wonder we are making almost no difference in the surrounding culture. No wonder much of the church is seen as just a joke. No wonder it is increasingly without any godly influence. We have simply told Jesus we will not obey his clear command to be salt and light.

A disobedient church is never a true church. A disobedient pastor is never a true pastor. A disobedient Christian is never a true Christian.

Repent church.

Former Hillsong Worship ‘Pastor’ Darlene Zschech Now Leading Followers To Rome

Darlene Zschech is a prominent voice in the contemporary praise movement

“Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,” 2 Corinthians 6:17 (KJV)

Darlene Zschech started out as a  “worship pastor” at Hills Christian Life Centre, Sydney, Australia, and has published many popular worship albums under the Hillsong Music label. She is also associated with Integrity Music and the Hosanna label. She and her husband, Mark, are now senior “pastors” of Hope Unlimited Church in New South Wales.

former-hillsong-ccm-singer-worship-pastor-darlene-zchech-sings-for-pope-francis-vatican-rome-renewal-holy-spirit

About meeting the Pope, Zschech said “What a day. All honour and praise to our Father in Heaven. Thank You, Thank You, Jesus.”

Last week, she performed on stage as a headliner at the Vatican’s Renewal of the Holy Spirit rally. On her Facebook page, Zschech breathlessly gushed The prep has begun in Rome. I can feel the prayers. Honoured to be singing this week, with Andrea BocelliDon Moen (Praise & Worship Leader), Noa (Achinoam Nini) with Pope Francis and thousands of worshippers gathering in St. Peter’s Square at the Vatican. This is a celebration of unity and peace in the Renewal of the Holy Spirit. Amazing days for the Body of Christ.”

As a former Catholic for 28 years, I can assure you that the Catholic Church is not part of the Body of Christ. When I went through 12 years of private Catholic school indoctrination, we never called ourselves “Christians”, we always referred to ourselves as Catholics. Now obviously I believe that Catholics can be saved, but I do not think it is possible for that to happen within the Catholic system. Bible doctrine and Catholic doctrine are indeed at odds with each other, I never met a priest or a nun who could tell me for sure that they were going to Heaven when they died. Because unlike the Bible, Catholic doctrine teaches that you cannot know for sure. That’s why they teach the false doctrines of Sacraments, Purgatory, Saint Worship, and pray to Mary, because they are trying to build up as many “good works” as they can to outweigh their bad on Judgment Day. And that is why the vast majority of Catholics will wind up in Hell because they were never saved in the first place.

“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” Ephesians 2:8,9 (KJV)

In all the endless hours of sermonizing and talking put in by Pope Francis, can you show me a 5 minute presentation of Gospel on how to be saved? No, you can’t because he doesn’t talk about those things. So what, I wonder, did Darlene Zschech and the other Laodicean “evangelicals” have to discuss with the Catholics when they arrived starry-eyed in the City of Babylon to pay homage to the Pope? I think that’s a pretty good question. From the looks of things, they just performed Christian rock music, got everyone all hyped up on emotion, and had you fall down and pray to their “generic Jesus” who judges nothing, loves all, and supports same-sex marriage.

Christian, in these last days as we watch denomination after denomination falling under the spell of Mother Rome, you would do well to guard your walk with the Lord and have nothing to do with these Laodicean, prosperity preaching imposters. If you ever get the chance to have an audience with Pope Francis, why don’t you tell him how to get saved? Because Darlene Zschech certainly didn’t tell him that when she had her chance.

Rick Warren Preaching Heresy at Hillsong 2015 Conference

Over at Pulpit & Pen Jeff Maples alerts us to yet another of Rick Warren’s biblical blunders. The question is, why would a Southern Baptist preacher agree to travel to Australia to speak at an event put on by Hillsong Church, when its leaders, Brian and his co-pastor wife Bobbie Houston, have been criticized for their heretical Word Faith teaching?

According to Maples:

At the Hillsong 2015 Conference in Sydney, Australia, where Rick Warren shared a stage with other heretics such as Joseph Prince, Warren teaches that he receives extra-biblical revelations through subconscious dreams. The theme of the Word of Faith conference that Rick is speaking at is “Speak Lord, I’m listening.” This is fitting since all of the speakers at this conference are heretical preachers that claim extra-biblical revelation from God.

He starts out by twisting Exodus 4:3 regarding Moses’ encounter with God, and God commanding Moses to throw down his staff while God miraculously turns it into a serpent, and then pick it back. He says that this passage represents that Christians today need to throw down their income and identity and let God do something miraculously with it. He says:

Hearing the voice of God starts with a willingness to give up his identity, his income, and his influence, for the global Glory of God. When you do that, you are now in a position to hear God speak.

Homosexual Advocate Wants Christian Chaplains Who Oppose Homosexuality Ousted from Military

According to Christian News Network:

A homosexual advocate who works as an activist to fight against Christianity in the military is calling for Christian chaplains who oppose homosexuality to get out of the Armed Forces following last month’s Supreme Court ruling surrounding same-sex “marriage.”

Mikey Weinstein of the Military Religious Freedom Foundation (MRFF) posted an op-ed on the Daily Kos website following the high court ruling, entitled “MRFF Demands Ouster of All Homophobic Military Chaplains.” Weinstein noted that the crux of this organization is “fighting the scourge of fundamentalist Christian extremism” and spoke about this goal in light of the Supreme Court decision.

YouTube Removes “Audacity” Trailer

Christian Headlines reports:

The trailer for “Audacity,” a film addressing homosexuality by Evangelist Ray Comfort, has been removed from YouTube. The Blaze reports that the video site removed the trailer after it had been viewed 130,000 times.

In place of the trailer, a message appears on YouTube that reads, “This video has been removed as a violation of YouTube’s policy against spam, scams, and commercially deceptive content.”

Comfort, who is famous for sharing scripture with strangers on the street, believes that the trailer was taken down because it suggests that no one is born a homosexual.

He said, “The foundation for the gay argument is that homosexuals (like people of color) are born that way, and like someone’s race, should never be discriminated against. The trailer shows a number of people changing their minds about homosexuals being born that way because I asked them two simple questions. It’s pretty unnerving for the ‘I can’t help being gay argument,’ and so they decided to censor us. Or to put it another way, they discriminated against us because of our religion.”

Stop Saying You “Love the Sinner; Hate the Sin”

It is common in Christian circles to hear admonitions to “Love the Sinner; hate the sin.”

More and more I hear this said in the context of LGBT people and gay marriage.

The Sexual Revolution’s Coming Refugee Crisis

This past weekend I met a couple who were married on the Fourth of July and baptized on the fifth. They had been cohabiting for many years and had several children together.

Barack Obama and the Grace of God

President Barack Obama’s remarkable eulogy for Clementa Pinckney, the pastor of the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, one of the nine victims of the recent tragic shooting there, has again called attention to the president’s often misunderstood faith. Obama’s singing of the venerated Christian hymn “Amazing Grace” and focus on the theme of grace has been widely discussed. Sadly, Obama has been called upon to play the role of our national pastor, our comforter-in-chief, numerous times in his six and half years in office—in the aftermath of shootings in Tucson, Aurora, Colorado, Newtown, Connecticut, Boston, the Washington Navy Yard, and Fort Hood, Texas; tornadoes in Joplin, Missouri and Moore, Oklahoma; and an explosion at a fertilizer plant in West, Texas.

Despite his repeated testimony to his Christian faith (Obama has shared his personal faith journey more than any other president), many Americans either profess confusion about his religious convictions or consider them to be irrelevant. It is well known that numerous polls, especially during his first term, report that only half of Americans consider him to be a Christian. The other half either do not know what his faith was or think he is a Muslim. Undoubtedly speaking for many, James Fallow asserted recently in the Atlantic Monthly, “if asked to describe Obama,” he would probably use many other adjectives before he employed “‘religious’ or ‘Christian.’” The president is “much more likely to explain his views” by referring to history, literature, economics, or jurisprudence “than to the teachings of his faith.”

Obama has rarely used faith language or Biblical passages to support his signature health program. He has, however, frequently employed religious rhetoric and scriptural phrases (most notably “my brother’s keeper”) to promote many other policies, including ones pertaining to poverty, immigration, the environment, and gay marriage. Obama even named his 2014 program to create “more pathways to success” for Latino and African-American boys and young men “My Brother’s Keeper Initiative.” Obama has strengthened the Office of Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships, frequently solicited the advice of religious leaders, called on religious groups to help solve the nation’s most urgent problems, and asserted that his faith “informs who I am—as a president, and as a person” and guides his actions.

Read: Blessing vs. Damning America (AP Photo)

Granted, Obama’s faith is complex. It has been shaped by various streams—the African-American church, the Social Gospel movement, mainline Protestantism (especially through his long involvement at Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago), and evangelicalism. Moreover, he has rarely attended church while president. Because they disagree with his policies on abortion, gay marriage, poverty alleviation, and other issues, countless religious conservatives question whether Obama’s faith is genuine. These factors help explain why many Americans are perplexed about the nature of his faith, how much it means to him, and how much it influences his policies.

Given his background and repeated use of Christian language, Obama’s eloquent and moving focus on God’s grace at the funeral service at the College of Charleston is not surprising. The president used his eulogy to urge Americans “to put our faith in action” by working “to feed the hungry, clothe the naked and house the homeless” through both doing charitable acts and creating a more just society. He hoped that this tragedy caused Americans to ask “how we can permit so many of our children to languish in poverty,” “attend dilapidated schools, or grow up without prospects for a job or for a career.”

Obama’s central theme, however, was grace. He lauded Pinckney for understanding “the power of God’s grace” and emphasized that Christianity taught that God’s “grace is not earned. Grace is not merited. It’s not something we deserve. Rather, grace is the free and benevolent favor of God.”

While some commentators seemed befuddled by Obama’s emphasis on God’s grace, it was not new; he has repeatedly accentuated this theme in speeches at national and Easter prayer breakfasts, proclamations of national days or prayer, eulogies, and numerous other occasions. Obama has stressed how God’s grace can help people cope with tragedies, resolve their differences, and work together more effectively.

Click here to read: Barack Obama's church attendance

Obama’s primary focus, however, has been on God’s grace in forgiving people’s sins and deficiencies. At the 2012 National Prayer Breakfast, Obama shared that as he reflected on through a “period of doubt and confusion” and finding “Christ when I wasn’t even looking for him,” he was overwhelmed “by the simple grace of God.” God’s “magnificent grace,” His “Amazing Grace,” Obama declared in 2013, “calls me to ask God for forgiveness for … those times that I’ve fallen short.” On other occasions Obama has thanked God for sending Jesus to earth to atone for human sin. At a 2014 Easter breakfast, he celebrated “the grace of an awesome God” Who “loves us, so deeply that He gave his only begotten Son so that we might live through Him.”

Americans will continue to debate the nature of Barack Obama’s faith for the remainder of his presidency and for years after he leaves office. Many conservative Christians are understandably very upset about Obama’s long-standing support of abortion and his more recent enthusiastic endorsement of gay marriage. Obama has used Biblical rhetoric to justify his positions on these issues, but his stances clash with traditional understandings of scriptural teaching. In evaluating Obama’s faith, we should carefully consider all his words (including those inspiring ones delivered in Charleston) and his varied actions.

Christ + Something Brings Bondage and Destroys Community

Galatians 2:3 is not the kind of verse people often crochet on a pillow or display on the refrigerator at home, but it is one we would do well to cherish: “But even Titus, who was with me, was not forced to be circumcised, though he was a Greek.” Paul’s letter to the churches of Galatia is a treatise on the unconquerable freedom the gospel brings to the lives of believers.

“With one ‘Special Revelation’ the Mormon Church expects its intended coverts to accept the totally unsupported testimony of a fifteen-year-old boy that nobody ever preached Jesus Christ’s gospel from the close of the apostolic age until the ‘Restoration’ through Joseph Smith, Jr., beginning in 1820!

3 Biblical Principles from Charleston

Difficult times present opportunities to model a message that silences many of our critics. The message of trust, obedience and forgiveness, and unity within the body must be consistently modeled. These biblical principles can be seen from the response of many to the Charleston shootings. Continue reading

That “Billy Graham” Rule

Appreciated this piece from Sharon Hodde Miller:

What I struggle with is how these rules can make certain people feel–especially single women, who are already a more vulnerable population in our churches. When applied too bluntly, the rules make single women feel like temptations or seductresses, rather than dignified sisters in Christ.

Will the multisite movement grow-up?

As someone with very serious concerns about the multisite approach—particularly in the mode of having a TV screen for your pastor—I am very glad to have read this:

When the multisite model (defined as one church in two or more locations) works, once-empty pews are filled with worshipers and an older church’s legacy lives on while a larger church expands its outreach. But when things go poorly, multisite churches can become another struggling American franchise, precariously built on the brand of a celebrity pastor—and one step away from collapsing like a house of cards.

Posture in Post-Christendom

Tim Brister:

Christendom is dead. For some, this is a time of lament. For others, it is a time of renewal and revival. I want to offer my reflections on the three different phases of Christianity and culture and the corresponding posture for Christian cultural engagement.

Pastors Who Don’t Delegate

Thom Rainer:

Failure to delegate will always limit a pastor. He will not be able to expand the ministry of the church because that ministry is limited to one person.

Often the pastor who does not delegate gets overwhelmed and essentially stops functioning. At other times, he may move toward workaholism until the inevitable burnout takes place.

Controversy or Complacency

Tim Challies:

But as I read 1 Timothy and hear Paul warn about these controversialists, I hear him sound a second warning as well. This is a warning about a second kind of person who sins very differently but no less seriously. If we have controversy on the one side of the equation, we have complacency on the other. This, too, is a sin and it, too, is very dangerous.

TMS Distinctives: A High View of Christ

Over the past few weeks, the seminary has been posting faculty videos related to its core doctrinal commitments. The three videos in this series center on Christology, and the commitment at TMS to a high view of the Lord Jesus Christ.

In this opening video, Dr. David Farnell addresses the dangerous Christology of the so-called “Search for the Historical Jesus” as contrasted with the reliable eyewitness accounts of the Gospels.

Dr. Farnell also articulates the biblical mandate for preachers to conform to and model the image of Christ.

Dr. Nathan Busenitz discusses what the Bible teaches about true repentance and the lordship of Christ.

Dr. David Farnell examines the redemptive significance of Jesus’ role as our great High Priest.

Dr. Irv Busenitz concludes this series by looking at the theological reality of Jesus’ incarnation.

TEXTS AND APPLICATION: Here is one example of where reading the Bible chronologically has been helpful to me this year. Jonah is first mentioned in 2 Kings 14:25 as a prophet who foretold the expansion of Israel’s territory.

A Biblical Response To The Supreme Court Decision

On Sunday I preached a sermon entitled “A Biblical Response To The Supreme Court Decision.” It’s available in audio and video here. The points were:

1. A Time To Mourn
2. A Time To Learn
3. A Time to Warn
4. A Time To Love
5. A Time To Trust
6. A Time To Stand
7. A Time To Change the Subject

What follows is an outline of the first point, A Time to Mourn.

What Does It Take to Be a Heretic?

Rick WarrenI came across an online article titled, Rick Warren Preaching Heresy at Hillsong 2015 Conference. I often take notice of the heresy accusations aimed at Rick Warren. My most popular post on this blog is Three Reasons Why Rick Warren is a Heretic.

There is no lack when it comes to people accusing Warren of heresy. However, every book, blog post and article that I have read by Warren has represented orthodox Christian theology.

What is the problem with Rick Warren?

In the above article by Jeff Maples, the accusation is that Warren receives extra-biblical revelation. Maples makes the following comment, “Rick Warren has been on a downhill path for a number of years, but this is outright heretical teaching.”

From that quote, you would think that Warren was writing his own Book of Mormon. But that is not what Warren is saying. Rather, Warren is saying that he hears from God in various ways. Is it heresy to believe that God speaks to us in ways outside the Bible?

In order to label this as a heresy, we would want some sort of biblical rejection of hearing from God outside written text. Instead, we find people in the New Testament hearing from God outside of the written text.

Does Warren hear from God? I have no idea. I know that I have experienced what has seemed to be God speaking to me. Not in an audible voice but in something that really seemed to be God.

But what if Warren is wrong? What if God does not speak to him outside Scripture? I still don’t see that as heresy. Some Christians seem to be quite eager to stick on the heresy label. Often it is when another Christian does something they don’t like, has a different style or under/overemphasizes a certain doctrine.

From my reading of the Bible and the Church Fathers, heresy is much more serious than that.

When should we call someone a heretic?

These are the kinds of doctrines that fall into the heresy category: denial of the Trinity, denial of the incarnation, denial of Jesus’ atonement, denial of the resurrection of Jesus and denial of salvation by faith. There may be a few others but not many.

One could listen to Rick Warren at the Hillsong Conference and believe that he is wrong but that would not make him a heretic.

Titled, Not Entitled

Everyone is gifted in one way or another. Whether we are called to serve on the mission field, in the ministry, in the workplace or in the home, God has individually gifted us with the skills and knowledge needed to do His work. When we use our gifts wherever He places us, we glorify His name and reflect His character. However, we all have a sinful tendency to pride ourselves in our title, position and abilities. For those of us who have earned a title by a diligent use of our gifts, this can be an especially difficult spiritual battle. Here are 7 humbling truths that we would do well to remember as we seek to combat pride and continue to honor the Lord with our gifts:

Steve Lawson Thug Life, Calvinist Light Bulb joke, how to twist the bible, Challies graphic, etc.

Here are some dribs and drabs. Nothing too long or involved. From Ray Comfort’s Facebook page:

(Ray Comfort) QUESTION is asked: “What do you say to devoted and faithful gay Christians?” R.J.
RAY COMFORT ANSWERS: “I would say the same thing that I would say to devoted and faithful adulterous people who call themselves Christians. Or to devoted and faithful people who steal or fornicate, and call themselves Christians.I would tell them that hypocrisy is self-deceptive, that we cannot serve sin and call ourselves Christians.I would only say that because I care about those who profess to be saved, but don’t have “the things that accompany salvation.”

I love Tim Challies‘ work with graphical presentations of truth.

“If a truth is worthy to be revealed in the Bible, it is worthy of being preached. And so, I don’t make apology – well, you knew that – I don’t make any apology for preaching the doctrine of predestination or election.” S. Lewis Johnson, sermon The Grandest Epistle

I laughed very hard at this. And again and again and again as I re-told it at church Sunday to my three Calvinist friends there.

John MacArthur preaching through the Sermon on the Mount, Matthew 5, 6, and 7. This is his sermon in the series, “Happiness Is…

Listen, if you’re looking for happiness in the world’s goods, you’re in the wrong place. The tree of happiness doesn’t grow in the cursed earth. It’s not there. Physical things don’t touch the soul. Did you get that? It’s a simple point but I want you to think it through. Physical things don’t touch the soul. You cannot fill a spiritual need with a physical substance. It can’t be done. But people try to do it.

You know, I mean if you’re really miserable in your marriage, go buy a new car. Or if you had a rotten argument with your wife, go out and buy a new suit. You’ll feel better. You cannot fill a spiritual need with a physical substance.

The Bible and Homosexuality: A Q&A with Pastor Don Green

On June 26, 2015, the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) attempted to redefine marriage, effectively legalizing same-sex marriage in all states. Biblical Christians are understandably upset and disturbed, knowing what the decision may eventually mean for their religious liberties in this country.

God Does Not Leave His Saints Under the Tyranny and Bondage of Sin

There is no man on earth who does not sin. But if the Holy Spirit dwells in you, He will cause you to grieve and repent and judge yourself over your sin and will discipline you (as a loving Father would his child) unto repentance to the conformity of your identity in Jesus Christ (1 Cor 11:31-32) … but, because of the grace you have in Christ, you will not abide in sin nor continue in it. He loves you too much to leave you under the tyranny and bondage of of sin.

IN YOUR BODY

So if you profess to be a Christian and are living with your girlfriend/boyfriend or having sex outside of the covenant of marriage, then either repent and ask Christ for the strength to live in godliness (which He will give to the regenerate) … or please do not dishonor the name of Christ by continuing to profess to be a Christian. Abiding in sin and being a regenerate Christian is wholly incompatible. “No one BORN OF GOD makes a practice of sinning, for God’s SEED abides in him, and he cannot keep on sinning because he has been BORN OF GOD.” (1 John 3:9) …”and his commandments are not burdensome. For everyone who has been BORN OF GOD overcomes the world.” (1 John 5:3-4)

Why is the Church Powerless?

Missing the Connection

By Pastor Anton Bosch

Anyone who is half-honest will admit that the church of the 21st century is powerless when compared to the church in the first century and at other times of great blessing. The problem is that making such a statement is akin to saying the emperor has no clothes since most feel quite content with their situation.

I know generalizations are exactly that, and I also freely admit that there are differences between the church in the West and other places where there still is a visible sense of God moving amongst His people. In broaching this topic we also have problems with terms, so allow me to define what I do, and do not, mean by power.

Power is not measured in noise, hype or even large numbers, just as the “anointing” is not measured in shouting, sweat and spit. Power cannot be measured in statistics, budgets, buildings or programs. A telling statement comes from a Third-World believer after visiting churches in the West: “It is amazing what the church in the West has been able to achieve without the Holy Spirit.”[1]

Power must be defined by the Scripture itself, and the definitive text is Acts 1:8: “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” This promise of the Lord Jesus is made manifest by the disciples in the book of Acts as “with great power the apostles gave witness to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus” (Acts 4:33). This power is visible in sinners powerfully transformed, powerful preaching and, yes, powerful miracles. And yes, I am painfully aware that my own church and ministry fall into the category of the powerless!

The Greek word for “power” is dunamis. Many point out that the word “dynamite” stems from this word. While that is true, I do not believe that dynamite is what Jesus had in mind when He used this word, simply because dynamite results in a huge explosion, the release of great power, and then destruction and silence in its wake. The word “dynamo” also comes from the word dunamis. A dynamo generates a constant flow of (electrical) power. The dunamis of the Spirit should not result in a momentary explosion (as in some questionable “revivals”) but in a constant empowering from within – driving the individual and the church forward in the face of difficulties and attacks, empowering lives that powerfully witness to the power of the Gospel and the power of the Cross.

This stands in stark contrast to modern conversions that seem to be more about joining, behavior modeling, and superficial assimilation; preaching that is clever, eloquent and impressive, but that leaves the sinner and the rebel unconverted; and a reliance on medical science, hype and advertising as a replacement for miracles.

The decline in the manifestation of God’s power amongst His people cannot be ascribed to Cessationism, or Hyper-Dispensationalism. That there is a decline is beyond dispute, but the weakening of the church cannot have been part of God’s original design since the power of Acts 1:8 is intimately connected with the Great Commission, which has not yet been fulfilled. If the dunamis was specifically given to empower the witness of the church, and the Great Commission has not yet been withdrawn nor fulfilled, then the power must still be available.

Seven Keys to Recruiting Volunteers in Your Church – Rainer on Leadership #139

Podcast Episode #139

SUBSCRIBE: iTunes • RSS • Stitcher • TuneIn Radio

Today on the podcast we tackle a problem every church has in some form—recruitment of volunteers. Whether you need teachers, small group leaders, ushers, or nursery workers, these seven keys will help you activate and retain volunteers in your church.

Some highlights from today’s episode include:

  • Too many times, we bring members into a church without letting them know the expectations of membership.
  • When looking for volunteers, talk about the “why” and the people impacted by the ministry.
  • Recruiting volunteers needs to be done one-on-one whenever possible.
  • If a church does not have an emphasis on small groups, it will be an unhealthy church.
  • The key to success in any organization is to get the right people and get them in the right place.
  • One of the reason we lose volunteers is because we have them doing things that make them miserable.
  • Find places for volunteers that match their passions and talents.
  • Many times it is helpful to have a point person in charge of all recruitment in the church.

The seven keys recruiting more volunteers in your church are:

  1. Recruiting must begin at new membership or before
  2. Recruiting must have more “why” than “what”
  3. Recruiting is best when it is individual
  4. The most effective recruiting takes place in small groups
  5. Consider recruiting with definitive termination dates
  6. Consider recruiting with alternating assignments
  7. Get the right people on the bus, and the right people in the right seats on the bus (gifts and passion)

Now More Than Ever, It’s Time for the Church to Be a Thermostat

by J Warner Wallace

Sometimes it feels like we, as Christians living in the twenty-first century, are the first to find ourselves surrounded by a culture that seems to reject much of what we believe. Of course, nothing could be farther from the truth. The earliest Christians, struggling to survive in the first century, were surrounded by a far more hostile culture. In spite of the obstacles and challenges, this group continued to grow, unlike the present Church in America, which appears to be shrinking each and every year. What’s the difference between these two groups? One important distinction is simply the response each group expressed (and is currently expressing) toward the culture in which they live(d). The first century Church was a thermostat, while the twenty first century Church (in America, at least) is often little more than a thermometer.

Thermostats control the temperature, while thermometers simply reflect it. The first century Church was well trained by its Master. Jesus told the earliest disciples and followers that they needed to resist the temptation to simply reflect the temperature of their culture:

“You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt has become tasteless, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled under foot by men.” (Matthew 5:13)

Jesus told his followers to set the tone for the world around them. To change the flavor of the culture rather than simply adopt the flavor of their first century environment…

How Did the Early Christians Influence Their Culture?

by Lenny Esposito

Christians are wondering how to deal with the aftermath of the Supreme Court ruling forcing all fifty states to recognize homosexual unions as marriage. The decision was lauded by those on the left as the last word on the question. Corporations changed their social media icons to include the homosexual rainbow colors. Government agencies like the Department of Education and the White House showed their unabridged support for the decision. Many people saw themselves ostracized or compared to bigots or ISIS because of their Christian views, even from friends and family members.

The fallout from this court case clearly shows that Christianity is now an outsider faith. For those in the West, it is a position Christians hadn’t experienced since prior to Constantine’s ascension in Rome. We aren’t used to such a position, but we can look to the actions of those who lived in even greater peril for to understand how to hold fast to our faith and still significantly impact a pagan society.

Learning from the Early Christians

The early church was also an outsider faith, viewed with suspicion and denounced in its first two hundred years, too. But even with life-threatening persecution, the early church not only grew, but changed minds and hearts. Christianity’s critics originally condemned the faith as a dangerous superstition causing sedition. Pliny wrote to Emperor Trajan in AD 112 discussing the Christian problem, reporting “whatever the nature of their creed, stubbornness and inflexible obstinacy surely deserve to be punished.”1

But near the end of the century, views of Christianity began to change. Galen of Pergamon was an influential Roman physician and philosopher. He described Christianity not as a superstition, but as a philosophy. He explains…

A Believing Response to Matthew Vines’ 40 Questions

by James White

Matthew Vines has posted a series of forty questions, found here. I have written up a fairly brief response. I hope it is helpful.

Do you accept that sexual orientation is not a choice?

The very question simplifies the topic to a ridiculous level, Matthew. The desires a human experiences come from many factors—and as one who claims to be a Christian, you should know that the Scriptures do not modify their demands based upon “past experience.” We are created in the imago Dei, and hence have control of our actions. For a small percentage of those who claim a homosexual experience I would say that they have, in fact, always experienced such desires; but I truly doubt this is true for the majority, as their own words have often testified.

Do you accept that sexual orientation is highly resistant to attempts to change it?

As is pedophilia, bestiality, desires toward incest, serial adultery, all sorts of forms of fornication, addiction to pornography, kleptomania, inveterate rage and anger, and addiction to gossip. “But such WERE some of you….”

How many meaningful relationships with lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender (LGBT) people do you have?

This is one of the new twists you have added to the mix, Matthew. I know very few people who are proud of their sin and identify by it. I do not know of any of my friends who say, “I am a man given to anger,” and hence, if someone asked me, “How many meaningful relationships with angry men do you have?” I would not find the question meaningful, especially if the unspoken counterpart to the question was the claim that this means I have no grounds to speak to the sinfulness of anger. I believe it is thoroughly unChristian and anti-Biblical to identify as a “homosexual Christian,” just as I believe it is thoroughly unChristian and anti-Biblical to identify as an “adulterous Christian.” Such a person is in rebellion against the faith, and the relationships I have with those who are in active, open rebellion against the faith is one of witness and calling to repentance and faith, not friendship and harmony.

How many openly LGBT people would say you are one of their closest friends?

None, of course, since friendship with the world is enmity with God, Matthew. Please note, you keep assuming your position in order to promote it. I think this is one reason you have refused to debate your position: this kind of circularity would collapse under cross-examination. You are much wiser to stick to the media-assisted, “progressive” liberal-friendly church monologue.

How much time have you spent in one-on-one conversation with LGBT Christians about their faith and sexuality?

False assumption: that there is such a thing, Biblically speaking, as an “LGBT Christian.” You again assume the conclusion. I do not spend any time in conversation with self-identifying adulterous Christians, fornicating Christians, idolatrous Christians, thieving Christians, etc. and etc. Every Christian I know falls into those sins, but does not then identify themselves by their sin. Christians, Matthew, identify themselves by their Savior from those sins. Also please note, Matthew, how you seem to be incapable of seeing how very enslaved you are to your desires. The rest of us may spend a lot of time discussing the faith with our brothers and sisters. We do not spend time discussing our sexuality. That is your world. It is not ours.

Do you accept that heterosexual marriage is not a realistic option for most gay people?

The only marriage given by God as a gift to His creation is heterosexual, of course—the very term demands a man and a woman, a husband and a wife. We are fully into the world of Newspeak if we pretend otherwise…

A Believing Response to Matthew Vines’ 40 Questions – Alpha and Omega Ministries

Evangelizing Evangelicals

This varied presence aligns with Pope Francis’ commitment to ecumenism. Beyond the recently opened dialogue with Orthodox and Anglican Churches, the Evangelical world is a big challenge for ecumenism, and perhaps one of the most important ones.  Dialogue with evangelical groups, especially Pentecostals, has been called “the fourth ecumenism” by several authors, including the Catholic sociologist Massimo Introvigne, an international authority on religious sects. According to Introvigne, the fourth ecumenism – that of the new Protestant sects born at the beginning of the 20th century – is perhaps the most fruitful ground for ecumenical dialogue.

Attempts at such dialogue have limits: for example, a search for parties to represent the Pentecostals. Although they make up three-quarters of Protestants in some parts of the world and as much as one-third of all Christians, Pentecostals are very fragmented. The diversity within the group presents difficulties for dialogue. This might be why Pope Francis has chosen to foster dialogue specifically with individuals and small groups.

On July 28, 2014, the Pope paid a private visit to the evangelical pastor Giovanni Traettino’s Church in Caserta. The two had met in 2006 and have maintained good relations ever since. That meeting came at the end of a series of meetings Pope Francis had with evangelical leaders in 2014.

Huffington Post Declares That The Holy Bible Is Not The Word Of God

The Huffington Post is the mouthpiece of the Liberal Left and the LGBT Mafia, and as such they are the sworn enemies of Bible believing Christians and the Holy Bible.

“The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever. The wicked walk on every side, when the vilest men are exalted.” Psalms 12:6-8 (KJV)

One of the greatest promises in all the Bible next to passages that deal with our salvation, is God’s absolute and bedrock promise to preserve His words exactly as He spoke them, forever. No matter how wicked this world becomes, no matter the trials we may be going through, we can always count on having access to God’s preserved word as found in the Bible. Whenever I pick up my King James 1611 Authorized Version Holy Bible, I can open to any page I like and know that I am reading the very words of God Himself.

“God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;” Hebrews 1:1,2 (KJV)

The Huffington Post ran an article yesterday, written by a “licensed minister”  Alexander J. Barron, in the “Missionary Baptist” tradition, whose main focal point is that he does not believe that the Holy Bible is the infallible word of God, from God, given to man through the Holy Spirit, and preserved by the Same. The many assertions he makes as to why the Bible is not God’s word are quite groundless and immature, and I will waste not one second of the precious life I’ve been given refuting his nonsense. Read it for yourself here. But trying to destroy your faith in the Bible is not his only goal. As you read through his article, you quickly begin to see his real message, and it’s a doozy.

“For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.” 2 Peter 1:21 (KJV)

Barron states that he is a “Christian that follows the teachings of Jesus of Nazareth, a man, the Lord Savior, and a poor boy born on the chocolate side of Palestine.” In doing so, he drops the “first shoe”. Jesus was born, as God’s Holy Preserved states clearly, in the little town of Bethlehem, located in Israel. Not in some mythical “palestine” which didn’t ever exist. Barron wants you to believe that Jesus Christ is a Palestinian, because that’s Barron’s agenda. He is anti-Israel, anti-Jew, and pro-Palestine which means he is also pro-Muslim. In his official bio, Barron states that he is an avid practitioner of Vipassana, which is New Age meditation and spirit channeling that comes from Buddha.

Spiritually, this man is a mess, and yes, it gets worse.

He drops the “second shoe” when he attempts to prove his case against the Bible by quoting from the “secret teachings” found in the Coptic Gospel of Thomas, not a part of the Holy Bible. The particular verse from Thomas he uses says “”Rather, the kingdom is inside of you, and it is outside of you. When you come to know yourselves, then you will become known, and you will realize that it is you who are the sons of the living father.” Which leads him to the following conclusion: “This scripture repudiates the necessity of an outside entity to validate one’s experience with God. The Bible is a confirmation ground, not a transcript of God speaking to man.” Whew! I think I need a nice, hot washing in the Word of God after wading through all that muck and mire. Click on the video below, speakers on 10, and let some Bible-based preaching clean you up!

That’s My King, Do You Know Him?

The Huffington Post is the mouthpiece of the Liberal Left and the LGBT Mafia, and as such they are the sworn enemies of Bible believing Christians and the Holy Bible. And as hard as it is for me to admit, they unfortunately are the future. God’s word states clearly that in the last days we will be in for a massive spiritual battle.

“This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.” 2 Timothy 3:1-5 (KJV)

Prepare yourselves, Christian, and be ready for what comes next, but know this. God has preserved His Holy Word for us, so keep it close to you at all times, drink it in, lean on it, depend on it, and let God speak to you through it.

The Daily Discovery (July 7, 2015)

Homosexual Advocates Call for Churches to Lose Tax-Exempt Status Following “Gay Marriage” Ruling – “At least two outspoken homosexual advocates are calling for churches nationwide to lose their tax-exempt status following last month’s U.S. Supreme Court ruling declaring that all 50 states must legalize same-sex ‘marriage.’”

Integrity and Personal Holiness – “Do you sometimes struggle to tell the difference between the church and the world? The church is now so adept at compromising with the world that it has forgotten how to be uncompromising. Many modern churchgoers have let the culture influence and corrupt their values, tastes, and practices—blurring the lines between sin and righteousness, and the clarity of God’s truth.”

Are you a member of the HFIB Club? – “Many Bible believing Christians are members of the HFIB club. The acronym stands for hate, fear, ignorance and bigotry. To be inducted into HFIB all one has to do is oppose homosexual ‘marriage’ or—gasp!—proclaim that homosexuality is a sin against a holy God.”

Contemporary Christian Music Pioneer Don Francisco Departs from Biblical Inerrancy – “Two-time Dove Award winner Don 30 Francisco is a singer/songwriter best for songs like ‘He’s Alive, Adam, Adam Where are You’ and I’ll Never Let Go of Your Hand. Surprisingly, Francisco is now scolding Christians who believe that the Bible is without error. In fact if you believe in the infallibility of Scripture, you are ‘dead,’ and need to stop drinking the Kool-Aid, Don says. He posted this message on his Facebook page…”

Rick Warren Preaching Heresy at Hillsong 2015 Conference – “At the Hillsong 2015 Conference in Sydney, Australia, where Rick Warren shared a stage with other heretics such as Joseph Prince, Warren teaches that he receives extra-biblical revelations through subconscious dreams. The theme of the Word of Faith conference that Rick is speaking at is ‘Speak Lord, I’m listening.’ This is fitting since all of the speakers at this conference are heretical preachers that claim extra-biblical revelation from God.”

The Cross Preachers Ignore

“If you alter or obscure the Biblical portrait of God in order to attract converts, you don’t get converts to God, you get converts to an illusion. This is not evangelism but deception.” – John Piper

What Did Satan Actually Know?

You’ve said that Satan didn’t know God planned on Jesus being put to death for our sins or he would have done everything in his power to stop it. Isaiah 53 is a prophecy of Jesus’s payment for our sins, so how is it possible that Satan didn’t know God’s plan of redemption prior to the Crucifixion? Didn’t he read the Bible?

Supreme Court Decision And Our Silence

Not even the Church is making much much protest, it seems that we, as a nation are just accepting it, why? Rhetorical question I know, but I would like your thoughts on it. Are we, I, the Laodicean church? It scares me to my core and all I know to do is keep praying, listening, hoping. I think that court decision may have been the tipping point for America and things will go down hill rapidly. I am comforted by the Lords message to the church of Philadelphia, I have considered myself to be of that church for a long time. I am almost 80 years old and love my Lord Jesus with all my heart and am grateful to Him beyond words.

Am I Right In Considering Leaving My Church?

Over this past year I’ve noticed many changes in my local church. I’ve seen decisions made by the Pastor alone that have both concerned and forced me to take a close look at the way things are changing. Most of these issues do not pertain to the actual preaching of God’s Word  but have caused me to have a deep concern for keeping this Pastor as my local Shepard.  I believe from scriptures, that the biblical foundation of the church is being compromised and I’m considering leaving this congregation over it.  Am I right in considering leaving for these reasons?

What is The Gospel?

Calvin: On Ridding the Church of Wicked Pastors

Zwinglius Redivivus

This is becoming more and more important.  Churches should pay attention and act accordingly:

We recognize no other pastors in the Church than faithful pastors of the Word of God, feeding the sheep of Jesus Christ on the one hand with instruction, admonition, consolation, exhortation, deprecation; and on the other resisting all false doctrines and deceptions of the devil, without mixing with the pure doctrine of the Scriptures their dreams or their foolish imaginings.

To these we accord no other power or authority but to conduct, rule, and govern the people of God committed to them by the same Word, in which they have power to command, defend, promise, and warn, and without which they neither can nor ought to attempt anything.

As we receive the true ministers of the Word of God as messengers and ambassadors of God, it is necessary to listen to them as to him himself…

Hillsong exposed: Private bits and private jets

HAS HILLSONG “BECOME JUDGES WITH EVIL THOUGHTS?”

While our God shows no favouritism (Romans 2:11) and encourages Christians not to show favouritism, the god of Hillsong does. Showing unusual favouritism towards Justin Bieber lately, how has promoting Justin Beiber’s attendance at Hillsong 2015 Conference helped anyone’s Christian walk, let alone Justin’s? In light of the following article how have Hillsong helped Justin Beiber in any way shape or form? The below article informs us of the days after Justin attended the Hillsong Conference.

As well-known missionary/evangelist Paul Washer stated: “We deal five minutes with a person and their conversion and then we spend the next fifty years trying to disciple a goat into a sheep. I’m not saying this because I’m angry. I’m saying this because countless people are being deceived.” Has Justin Bieber been deceived into a false conversion?

As for showing favouritism, God says,

“My brothers, show no partiality as you hold the faith…

A prayer of praise of God and reflection of the Christian’s relationship with Him

Possessing the Treasure

GOD AND MYSELF

LORD GOD ALMIGHTY,
Thy understanding is unsearchable and infinite,
Thy arm cannot be stayed,
Thy agency extends through limitless space,
All works hang on thy care,
With thee time is a present now.

Holy is  thy wisdom, power, mercy, ways, works,
How can I stand before thee
with my numberless and aggravated offences?

I have often loved darkness,
observed lying vanities,
forsaken thy given mercies,
trampled underfoot thy beloved Son,
mocked thy providences,
flattered thee with my lips,
broken thy covenant.

It is of thy compassion that I am not consumed.
Lead me to repentance, and save me from despair;
Let me come to thee renouncing, condemning, loathing myself,
but hoping in the grace that flows even to the chief of sinners.

At the cross may I contemplate the evil of sin, abhor it,
look on him whom I pierced,
as one slain from me, and…
