Shmitah and the Messiah: Could This Be the Year Before His Arrival?
According to the sources, the year after the Shemitah has a special significance relating to the Messiah. There is a possibility, perhaps even a probability, the Messiah will come the year after the Shemitah, though if he does not, it in no way negates or contradicts the Rabbi’s statements. This requires a bit of explanation.

TOP RIGHT HOOKS

Greece Gets Another Handout With a Bailout

For the third time since 2010, Greece may be spared the full-blown consequences of an economic tailspin of its own making, at least for now. Over the weekend, negotiators reached a tentative bailout agreement that, if implemented, would infuse upward of $96 billion (€86 billion) into the country’s floundering economy. Greece would retain its membership with the Eurozone in return for additional, albeit stricter, austerity measures. However, the deal hinges on the approval of Athens’ Parliament, and a history of broken promises have fostered a pessimistic outlook. Entitled and disgruntled Greek citizens recently voted against a referendum, the terms of which, ironically, are an integral part of the new bailout. As The Wall Street Journal reports, “Athens’s Parliament has to pass pension overhauls and sales tax increases that voters overwhelmingly rejected in a referendum just one week ago.” Will that stop lawmakers, who face voters’ contempt, from approving the bailout? “Before the country can get better, it will have to get a lot worse,” notes Investor’s Business Daily. Greece’s GDP has dropped roughly 33% since 2009, yet time and again Greeks have demonstrated how reluctant they are to abandon socialist enslavement. “To grow again, Greece will need to make deeper spending cuts, reduce public pensions, introduce free-market reforms, lighten regulations and tackle endemic political corruption,” IBD adds. That will be a tough sell, but it’s the only way forward.

There’s No ‘Loophole’ in the Background Check System

The New York Times breathlessly reports that Dylan Roof could have been stopped from murdering nine people in Charleston were it not for a flaw in the background check. “A loophole in the check system allowed [Roof] to buy the .45-caliber handgun despite his having previously admitted to drug possession,” the Times reports the FBI to have admitted. (The Times story has since been corrected without notation.) The FBI operates the National Instant Criminal Background Check System, though, listening to Democrats, we know it may be shocking to learn that a nearly universal background check system already exists. What may be even more shocking to the Times is that it wasn’t a “loophole.” It was human error, plain and simple. Someone at the FBI failed to update the system.

The Washington Post, meanwhile, laments, “The disclosure amounts to a heartbreaking admission by the FBI director that the attack on members of a Bible study group at Emanuel AME might have been averted.” Perhaps, but perhaps not. Roof was an alleged druggie who killed nine people. Does anyone think there aren’t other ways of obtaining firearms than passing a background check? Clearly, the lesson here is twofold: First, enforce the law. Second, there are still times the only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun.

Unsportsmanlike Conduct Against the Redskins

The Washington Redskins lost more yardage in their drive to protect their name from perpetually aggrieved leftist busybodies. On Wednesday, a judge canceled the NFL franchise’s federal trademark registrations. U.S. District Judge Gerald Bruce Lee’s ruling upheld a previous decision by the federal Trademark Trial and Appeal Board. But the clock hasn’t run out yet, and Redskins President Bruce Allen promised an appeal. “We are convinced that we will win on appeal as the facts and the law are on the side of our franchise that has proudly used the name Washington Redskins for more than 80 years,” Allen said in a statement. But Lee’s ruling presented an opportunity for the Redskins’ hometown paper, The Washington Post, to give a full hands-on-hips editorial lecture to the team. “The name is going to have to change,” the paper finger-wagged, “and the sooner team owner Dan Snyder puts himself on the right side of history, the better it will be for everyone.” That “right side of history” blather is what leftists always use when they have no other argument for their policy preference. But the Post also issued what we view as a veiled threat: “No matter what a court eventually determines about the ability of the team to peddle its gear, the damage caused by using a hurtful name will continue.” Because they and their fellow race-baiting travelers will never shut up about it. It’s the same with the Confederate flag and those who oppose same-sex marriage — the beatings will continue until you submit.

FEATURED RIGHT ANALYSIS

If You’re White, Shame on You

By Arnold Ahlert

2015-07-13-6a518547_large.jpg
Bless his heart

The leftist-inspired deconstruction of traditional America — and by extension, the dominant white Judeo-Christian culture that formed the basis of it — continues apace. MTV has produced “White People,” a documentary in which five young white people are made to feel uncomfortable about their inherently “privileged” position in society. This claptrap is narrated by Jose Antonio Vargas, an openly gay Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist whose coming out as an illegal alien in a 2011 New York Times column has earned him celebrity status — and apparently, legal immunity.

As the trailer indicates, the documentary aims to “change the way you think about white history” and urges its audience to “all get uncomfortable together” when dealing with racial issues. In a Facebook post accompanied by the picture of the same young white man apparently reduced to tears in the trailer, Vargas spells out his objective: “We cannot have an honest conversation about race in America until we explore and unpack what ‘whiteness’ and ‘white privilege’ mean in America.”

MTV President Stephen Friedman doubles down on this invidious nonsense in a press release. “Whiteness often remains unexamined in conversations about race in this country, even as it acts as the implicit norm against which other racial identities are judged,” he insists. “By shining a spotlight on whiteness, we hope ‘White People’ will serve as a powerful conversation starter that encourages our audience to address racial bias through honest, judgment-free dialogue.”

That would be honest, judgment-free dialogue as long as one concedes white privilege is the baseline from which any conversation about race can proceed. Thus it is completely unsurprising that one of the documentary’s cast members, 21-year-old “Lucas,” is channeling his inner useful idiot, and became, as the press release puts it, “passionate about the topic of race and began teaching white privilege workshops.”

If enough guilty white people visit the film’s website, such workshops may no longer be necessary. It is there they can access the seven-day “bias cleanse” provided by the Kirwan Institute for the Study of Race and Ethnicity. It promises to “provide you with the daily tasks that will help you begin to de-bias yourself.”

Thankfully, following the trailer’s posting on YouTube, “White People” received the barrage of negative comments it so richly deserves. “I’m Asian, and I am offended for white people by this show,” said one person. Another got to the meat of the issue. “What it means to be white? Well for starters that I am somehow a terrible racist by default, simply because I am white. That I should feel bad/guilty/apologetic about issues that happened over 100 years ago to people that I have nothing to do with. That somehow everything is magically in my favor, which it is not. Yep. That’s how it feels.”

What happened — exactly — over 100 years ago? America became one of the first nations on earth to eliminate slavery.

“Today the moral horror of slavery is so widely condemned that it is hard to realize that there were thousands of years when slavery was practiced around the world by people of virtually every race,” black economist extraordinaire Thomas Sowell explains. “Even the leading moral and religious thinkers in different societies accepted slavery as just a fact of life. No one wanted to be a slave. But their rejection of slavery as a fate for themselves in no way meant that they were unwilling to enslave others. It was just not an issue — until the 18th century, and then it became an issue only in Western civilization.”

It is precisely this part of American history the white privilege hucksters choose to ignore, because the redemptive part of America’s historical legacy is inimical to the America-damning agenda promulgated by the Left. It is an agenda that can only thrive in the atmosphere of ginned up racial divisiveness that has become the Left’s calling card.

But not just divisiveness. We are in the midst of “the therapeutic culture’s hostile takeover of the culture,” explains The American Spectator’s Daniel Flynn. “We go for the gut or tug at the heart. Stimulating the mental circuitry strikes as a non sequitur to a generation trained to emote rather than think. The Thought Police put themselves out of business and created a more ominously Orwellian control apparatus: the Feelings Police.”

It is a “police force” comprised entirely of leftists currently dedicated to purging everything with which they disagree from the public square, especially a white Judeo-Christian culture that presents the largest impediment to the “fundamental transformation of the United States” these would-be totalitarians seek to attain.

Toward that end, anything resembling a competing idea becomes either a “microaggression” requiring a “trigger warning,” or something subjected to ad hominem attacks designed to make competing ideas utterly irrelevant, or subservient to name-calling. And when intellectual rigor is abandoned in favor of emotionalism, guilt, or lack thereof, becomes the only currency by which one’s commitment to “the cause” is measured.

And if one feels no such guilt? Shut up and go with the flow — or else.

Radio talk-show host Mark Levin insists, “[W]e’ve had a silent coup in this country.” Levin is wrong. There has been nothing remotely silent about the American Left’s insidious intention to destroy people and ideas with which they disagree. Whether it is the demonization of the Confederate flag, the removal of a Founding Father who appears on our currency, or the severe punishment of bakers who won’t bake the cake, the message is clear: The people who wish to preserve anything resembling American history, culture or tradition are irredeemable bigots who must be exiled to the fringes of “enlightened” society.

And when the Left’s own odious policies actually get someone killed, such as a lawless sanctuary city agenda that enabled a five-time deported illegal alien to snuff out the life of a 32-year-old woman? Defend the bankrupt notion that Rule of Law takes a back seat to accommodating the sensitivities of illegal aliens and their contemptible enablers. And why not? Recent Supreme Court decisions added a patina of legitimacy to “flexible” interpretations of the law, led by a chief justice who conflates advancing the leftist agenda with protecting the “integrity” of the Court.

As for genuine privilege, Vargas, and the 12 million illegal aliens, many of whom are demanding to be accommodated, go right to the top of list.

OPINION IN BRIEF

Jim DeMint & Mike Gonzalez: “For centuries, America welcomed succeeding surges of immigrants with an invitation to join a unique American culture that includes specific principles and virtues. Then, in the 1970s, our elites decided to reverse course, and started promoting sectarianism. We’ve never really had a debate on what is nothing less than a complete overhaul of the organizing principle of this most diverse of nations. The decisions that led us here were bureaucratic and incremental. Congress passed a law here, federal agencies issued a rule there, and the courts made decisions hither and yonder. Before we knew it, we had shifted from more than two centuries of perfecting the melting pot to a system of adversarial multiculturalism. Rather than welcoming legal immigrants as new members of our national family, today’s coercive diversity works differently: Immigrants are immediately categorized into bureaucratic, pan-ethnic ‘minority’ groups such as ‘Hispanic’ or ‘Asian,’ each with an ascribed set of supposed cultural norms to which they are expected to conform. Those who support such balkanization create a divisiveness that not only flouts our proud tradition of legal and ordered immigration — it puts the whole nation at risk.”

SHORT CUTS

The Gipper: “We need true tax reform… But we cannot have such reform while our tax policy is engineered by people who view the tax as a means of achieving changes in our social structure.”

Upright: “However I personally feel about Court decisions, on issues that affect the entire country, I don’t believe a 5-4 decision should settle anything. Criminal cases require 12 people to reach a unanimous decision. Even civil cases require a two-thirds vote. So how is it that a mere 55% of the Supremes are allowed to make final life-changing decisions affecting 100% of 320,000,000 of us?” —Burt Prelutsky

The BIG Lie: “I got involved in public life for civil rights. [Same-sex marriage] is the civil rights movement of our generation. This decision is as consequential as Brown vs. the Board.” —Joe Biden

Non Compos Mentis: “‘The Cosby Show’ lied to its white viewers about the nature of racism, white supremacy, and white privilege in the post-civil rights era United States. It told them of a world of black millionaires — people who were ‘just like them.’ … While unintentional, ‘The Cosby Show’ enabled some of the ugliest Reagan-era fantasies.” —Salon’s Chauncey DeVega

Superiority complex: “A lot of the traits that make the United States exceptional these days are undesirable, like higher violence and less social mobility. Many of these differences can be attributed largely to the South. … Minus the South, the rest of the U.S. probably would be more like Canada or Australia or Britain or New Zealand — more secular, more socially liberal, more moderate in the tone of its politics and somewhat more generous in social policy.” —Politico’s Michael Lind

Dezinformatsia: “[S]hould we … reoccupy the South with Union forces and restart Reconstruction? … [O]r … just let the South go their own way?” —radio talk-show host Thom Hartmann

Alpha Jackass: “[R]ich white people are f—ing insane.” —Hollywood director Joss Whedon (An interesting slam considering that Whedon is both rich and white. So rich, in fact, that he’s worth about $100 million.” —Newsbusters’ Andrew Miller)

And last… “Hillary Clinton told CNN Tuesday she was never subpoenaed to testify on Benghazi. One hour later, House Republicans produced the subpoena they sent her to testify about Benghazi. Democrats won the argument, saying it’s just like Republicans to make fun of a woman who suffered a head injury.” —Argus Hamilton

The Last Days Of ‘Normal Life’ In America

Sheeple - Public DomainIf you have got family and friends that you would like to visit before things start getting really crazy, you should do so within the next couple of months, because these are the last days of “normal life” in America.  The website where I have posted this article is called “End of the American Dream“, but perhaps I should have entitled it “The End of America” because that is essentially what we are heading for.  The debt-fueled prosperity that so many of us take for granted is about to come to a screeching halt, and we are about to enter the hardest times that any of us have ever known.  And I am not just talking about economics either.  Based on all of the intel and information that I have gathered, we are about to enter a “perfect storm” that is going to shake this country in just about every possible way that it can be shaken.  So I hope that you will truly savor this summer – days like this will not come around again any time soon. Germany Never Intended For Greece To Stay In The Euro

No Deal - Public DomainThere never was going to be any deal.  All along, Germany has been seeking to establish conditions that would never be met so that they could force Greece out of the eurozone.  But the Germans had to do this subtly so that they would end up looking “reasonable” and would not turn the rest of the eurozone against them.  So why does Germany want to get rid of Greece?  Well, to be honest, it is because the Germans are sick and tired of paying for Greek mistakes.  In Germany, there is an obsession with having a balanced budget.  They even have a term for it – “the black zero“.  So it absolutely infuriates the Germans that the Greeks can never seem to get their act together and that German citizens have to keep paying for it.  At this point, the amount of money that Germany has already poured into Greece breaks down to more than 700 euros per citizen, and now Greece is going to need a new bailout of somewhere between 82 billion and 86 billion euros over the next three years.  Needless to say, the Germans are fed up with pouring money down a financial black hole, and they know that if they keep bailing Greece out that it is only a matter of time before they will have to bail out Italy, Spain, Portugal, France, etc. (Read More….)

Netanyahu: No stopping deal if ‘death to America’ chants didn’t kill talks

Jewish Home leader Naftali Bennett says the nuclear deal with Iran will be remembered as a dark moment in world history.

“Friends, even in dramatic days for the State of Israel, the sun shines, the birds tweet and a global terror power is born,” he says. “It all looks the same, but nothing will be the same starting today. These are crucial days for Israel.”

Bennett says that the deal about to be signed will transfer half a trillion dollars to a new terror superpower. “They are going to sign an agreement with the world’s most dangerous country and they do it with a country that says quite openly it wants to destroy states and peoples,” he says.

“Sometimes, when we read the history books of the last hundred years, we cannot seem to understand how terrible processes took place, how the world failed to see what is about to happen. Today, we can understand. The Western world is going to commit international hara-kiri and we are trying, with our feeble powers, to stay its hand,” Bennett says.

How the Dominoes Will Fall After ISIS Takes Damascus

Posted: 13 Jul 2015 07:51 AM PDT

For more than four years, the Assad regime in Syria has resisted its people’s cry to be freed from dictatorship. During the last several weeks, the Assad regime has shown signs of vulnerability punctuated by a weakened relationship with Iran. Iranian advisers who had supported Assad for years are now consumed with supporting the Iraqi government in its war against ISIS and the Houthis in Yemen in their war against a Saudi-led coalition of Arab nations. Iran’s economy has been damaged severely after a decade of international sanctions and Iran cannot support the Syrian regime financially forever. Hezbollah, the best trained force fighting for the regime, has lost about a thousand of its best fighters in Syria, the very fighters desperately needed to fight ISIS and al-Qaeda in Lebanon.

For these reasons, Syrian government forces have suffered a series of defeats over the last weeks. The Assad regime now controls no more than 35 percent of the country, leaving the rest to ISIS, the Kurds and the other rebel groups like al-Nusra front. Allepo, Syria’s largest city is almost surrounded completely by the rebels. The Syrian Kurds have increased the territories they control in the north to include most of the border areas with Turkey. Assad is also the de facto mayor of Damascus and the coastal areas. If this trend continues, which is likely to happen, the Syrian regime will probably fall by the end of this year. The two competing forces to occupy Damascus are ISIS and al-Nusra front. FULL REPORT

Submerged volcano cluster found off Sydney

Posted: 13 Jul 2015 07:39 AM PDT

A submerged volcano cluster has been found 250 kilometres off the coast of Sydney. Australia’s new ocean-going research vessel Investigator discovered extinct volcanoes during routine mapping of the seafloor in the search for the nursery grounds of larval lobsters. ‘The voyage was enormously successful, not only did we discover a cluster of volcanoes on Sydney’s doorstep, we were amazed to find that an eddy off Sydney was a hotspot for lobster larvae at a time of the year when we were not expecting them,’ Chief scientist for the voyage Professor Iain Suthers.

The four extinct volcanoes in the cluster are calderas, which form after a volcano erupts and the land around them collapses, forming a crater. The largest is 1.5 km across the rim and it rises 700 metres from the sea floor. The cluster is likely to be 50 million years old. FULL REPORT

Goldman analyst and ex-CIA agent: ‘We are in an extraordinarily dangerous time right now’

Posted: 13 Jul 2015 07:36 AM PDT

The Russia-NATO confrontation is becoming one of the defining aspects of the global strategic landscape. And according to the head of Goldman Sachs’s Office of Global Security, the situation is going to remain tense — or even intensify. Robert Dannenberg, who is also a 24-year CIA veteran, believes that Russia is the top strategic threat from a US perspective.

“We are in an extraordinarily dangerous time right now because both Russia and NATO are starting to exercise substantial military activity in close proximity to each other in Eastern Europe and the Baltics,” Dannenberg said in an interview included in a July 9 Goldman Sachs analyst note. Churches across America pledge massive civil disobedience as Supreme Court forces them to recognize gay marriage

A Christian-themed movement that seeks to reaffirm traditional marriage – that between a man and a woman only – recently took off with a campaign ahead of the U.S. Supreme Court ruling that recognized a right of gays and lesbians to form a legally protected marriage. According to an ad placed in The Washington Post[PDF] by an organization called Defend Marriage, the group has launched a pledge drive which recognizes only marriage as defined by the Christian faith.

The organizers of the pledge drive have pledged to disavow the high court’s decision to uphold lower court decisions conveying the right to marry on homosexual couples. “We ask you not to force us to choose between the State and the Laws of God,” says the group on its website. Citing Martin Luther King, Jr., to make their case As for the Post ad,[PDF] which is also an open letter to the Supreme Court Justices, the group makes a number of declarations: We the undersigned have joined together to present our unified message and plea to the Justices of the United States Supreme Court regarding the matter of marriage. Genetically modified, glow-in-the-dark lamb ‘accidentally’ winds up in French food supply

Is it just an unfortunate case of biotechnology gone wrong, or does the French government’s “accidental” release of a genetically-modified (GMO) ewe into France’s food supply signify something more sinister? This is one of the pertinent questions being asked following a recent announcement by the French National Institute for Agricultural Research (INRA) that one of its GMO test lambs somehow ended up being sold to a private party — which is against the law in France — and secretly placed into the food supply.

The GMO lamb in question had been under investigation as part of a research project looking at human transplants for heart disease. The transgenic ewe was never intended to leave the INRA laboratory, and it most assuredly was never meant to be consumed by humans. Nevertheless, the animal, which was birthed by its GMO mother, was somehow shipped from the facility on August 5, 2014, to a “partner abattoir,” and its carcass was then sold to another private individual on October 28 of the same year. Could America Fall Without a Fight?

Posted: 12 Jul 2015 06:12 PM PDT

Americans tend to think their country is invulnerable to devastating, catastrophic attack – despite Pearl Harbor, despite 9/11 and despite the recent mega-hack of the entire personnel database of the federal government. After all, we have a great military machine that can project force anywhere in the world when necessary. Our soldiers are fearless. They fight in the air, on land, in the sea and in darkness better than any others in the world.

We have sophisticated weapons and technology on our side. But what if the big attack on America is one in which our military can’t defend us at all? More and more, that seems not only like a possibility, but a probability. In fact, we’ve seen some dress rehearsals for this kind of war recently. What this means is that enemies are prepared, willing and able to exploit vulnerabilities of our civilian government infrastructure to avoid a direct head-on confrontation with our strength – our fighting forces. America’s day of reckoning just 60 days away?

Posted: 12 Jul 2015 05:52 PM PDT

Two months from now the biblical Shemitah year will have played out and only then will we know whether it has left any significant event in its wake. In the past, this seven-year cycle has brought collapsing stock markets, tumbling currencies and the shaking of nations and empires. This period of early autumn was the most crucial time on the biblical calendar for the ancient Israelites, with the end of the seven-year cycle described in Deuteronomy as the Shemitah or Sabbath year.

All farmland was to be left in a state of rest and the people were to focus on God and His will for their nation and their lives. This year on Sept. 13, the Shemitah reaches its peak on the last day on the Hebrew calendar, Elul 29, known as the “day of nullification.” All debt and credit were to be wiped away on this day as described by author Jonathan Cahn in his New York-Times bestseller, “The Mystery of the Shemitah,” published in September 2014. But the Shemitah can be a game-changer not only for economies and stock markets but also in geopolitics. Religious Groups Remain Concerned After Obama Admin Releases New Abortion Pill Mandate Rules

Posted: 12 Jul 2015 03:28 PM PDT

Religious groups across the country remain concerned after the Obama administration released its new rules surrounding what has been dubbed the Obamacare abortion pill mandate. According to the revised regulations, women would still be able to obtain contraceptives at no cost to them. But for-profit companies and other similar organizations that object to personally providing coverage must contact either their insurance company or the federal government and advise of their religious objections. If contacting the government, officials will then contact the business’ insurance company and the insurance company will cover the contraceptives at no cost.

“Women across the country should have access to preventive services, including contraception,” HHS Secretary Sylvia Burwell said in a statement. “At the same time, we recognize the deeply held views on these issues, and we are committed to securing women’s access to important preventive services at no additional cost under the Affordable Care Act, while respecting religious beliefs.”

But some pro-abortion groups, as well as Democratic members of Congress, such as Sen. Patty Murray, Wash., expressed opposition to the new rules, stating that they give too much “power over the health care decisions of the women they employ.” Murray opined that the regulations demonstrate why “the Supreme Court’s deeply harmful ruling in Burwell v. Hobby Lobby is completely unacceptable.” FULL REPORT

Texas House Committee Approves Professing ‘Christian’ Lawmaker’s Push to Legalize Pot

Posted: 12 Jul 2015 03:24 PM PDT

A House committee in Texas has approved a bill proposed by a professing Christian who seeks to legalize the recreational use of marijuana statewide. Rep. David Simpson, R-Longview, proposed HB 2165 earlier this year to do away with criminal penalties for the use of pot in Texas, striking any language in the current law that cites marijuana next to controlled substances.

In an op-ed published last month entitled “The Christian Case for Drug Law Reform”, Simpson said that his faith and his criticism of the government “war on drugs” led him to propose the bill. “As a Christian, I recognize the innate goodness of everything God made and humanity’s charge to be stewards of the same,” wrote Simpson. “I don’t believe that when God made marijuana he made a mistake that government needs to fix.” FULL REPORT

“My Last Day” — the Jesus Anime

9 powerful minutes of animation that begins with a thief behind bars watching the scourging of Jesus, and it ends with the thief dying next to Jesus, and waking to see Him in a beautiful place.

The dying thief: What was so great about his faith?

There are many acts of extraordinary faith in the Bible. The one that has impressed me the most concerns the dying thief on the cross. We could take the approach that he had nothing to lose, so he decided to cast his lot with Jesus. But this makes absolutely no sense of the text and the context.
In this conversion we have a specific fulfillment of Christ’s first words on the cross. No sooner had Christ spoken the words, “Father, forgive them,” had the Father answered that prayer by turning a once-reviling criminal into a Christ-glorifying saint. While the soon-to-be converted criminal was not directly responsible for Christ’s death, he nevertheless joined with those who were and was thus indirectly addressed when Christ asked for God to forgive “them.”
Christ, the sinless one, was numbered with or counted among the transgressors (Isa. 53:12; Luke 22:37), all of whom have a bigger problem than the day-to-day sins they commit. They hate Christ, the God-man. Anyone who has a master other than the Lord Jesus hates him (Lk. 16:13; Gal. 4:8). That these two criminals loathed him is clearly manifested during the crucifixion: “And the robbers who were crucified with him also reviled him in the same way” (Matt. 27:44).
When the criminal who was converted was doing his worst against Christ, Christ was doing his best for this criminal.
The conversion of the one criminal was most extraordinary and testifies to the power of Christ’s prayer and the grace of God. Why?
This criminal’s faith did not come at a time such as when Christ turned water into wine; or performed miracles, such as walking on water, opening the eyes of a blind man, or raising Lazarus from the dead. No! The criminal believed on the Messiah while he was hanging as one cursed upon a tree. The criminal trusted in and boldly defended the one whose disciples had abandoned him. Jesus was at his lowest when this criminal asked to be remembered in Christ’s kingdom.
When he was on the cross, did anyone publicly cry out, as John the Baptist did, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!” (Jn. 1:29)? But this is essentially what the dying thief did. Little wonder, then, that Christ should promise him a place in his kingdom: “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise” (Lk. 23:43).
The criminal acknowledged he was guilty; he acknowledged that Christ was not (“this man has done nothing wrong”); he feared God; but, and here is the key: the criminal did not merely want to be in a better place. He wanted to be with Christ in a better place: “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom” (Lk. 23:42). The criminal believed “against all hope”.
Heaven is a better place because that is where Christ is. Everyone wants to go to heaven, but not everyone wants to go to Christ’s heaven. Not so with this criminal: he saw, with his eyes, Christ at his worst; but with the eyes of faith, he believed that Christ would soon be at his best, and so put his faith in a dying king.
Christ is always – always! – willing to save even the most miserable of sinners. A recognition of guilt (Lk. 23:40) and a confidence in him and not ourselves (Lk. 23:42) will always lead to the most assuring truth a sinner can receive: the Savior welcomes such into his paradise!
“One is saved, and we may not despair; the other is lost, and we may not presume.” Spurgeon

Our Desperate Need for Wisdom

By now, you have probably heard of the case in Michigan. A judge sentences three children to juvenile detention for refusing to have lunch with their father. They and their mother claim that the father is abusive. The father claims that the mother is alienating the children from him. I wish that the judge had just a small amount of the wisdom of Solomon. Who is telling the truth? Let me ask it this way, “Who is willing to destroy the children rather than lose the case?”

The Sexual Revolution’s Coming Refugee Crisis

If we are silent about what the gospel says about sexual immorality, we will not only lose our mission, but we will also lose the respect of those we are seeking to reach. They can read texts. All the gymnastics of the revisionists does nothing to silence what honest people read in our Scriptures. When they hear us clearing our throats in embarrassment or explaining away things unfashionable at the moment, they hear from us that we are more afraid of them than we are confident in our gospel. How then can they trust us with words of life that can overpower the grave, when they see that we are not even willing to go against the spirit of the age?

Heidelberg 89: What Is The Dying Of The Old Man?

True sanctification begins with what we used to call “mortification,” which is a one-word way of saying “dying of the old man.” As I wrote under Heidelberg 88, this teaching is not complicated but it is not easy either. Death is never easy if only because it always entails loss. The truth is, to the degree we are Adam’s children, we like sin and we like to sin. It is pleasurable for a while to think evil, vindictive, murderous, or lustful thoughts. It is momentarily satisfying to gratify sinful desires but only for a while. In that way sin is like drug abuse.

In Fiery Speeches, Francis Excoriates Global Capitalism

According the New York Times, the left-leaning pope opposes capitalism:

Pope FrancisHis speeches can blend biblical fury with apocalyptic doom. Pope Francis does not just criticize the excesses of global capitalism. He compares them to the “dung of the devil.” He does not simply argue that systemic “greed for money” is a bad thing. He calls it a “subtle dictatorship” that “condemns and enslaves men and women.”

Having returned to his native Latin America, Francis has renewed his left-leaning critiques on the inequalities of capitalism, describing it as an underlying cause of global injustice, and a prime cause of climate change. Francis escalated that line last week when he made a historic apology for the crimes of the Roman Catholic Church during the period of Spanish colonialism — even as he called for a global movement against a “new colonialism” rooted in an inequitable economic order.

The Argentine pope seemed to be asking for a social revolution.

“This is not theology as usual; this is him shouting from the mountaintop,” said Stephen F. Schneck, the director of the Institute for Policy Research and Catholic studies at Catholic University of America in Washington.

Oregon now offering state-funded sex-change operations to minors without parental consent.

http://www.komonews.com/news/local/Gender-reassignment-for-teens-without-parental-consent-draws-fire-313878211.html?embed

The state of Oregon is now allowing children as young as 15-years old to get state-funded sex-change operations without parental consent. I don’t know if I would have believed this had I not seen it with my own eyes, but it is true. Watch the news report above.

All of this came about after a transgender rights group petitioned the state of Oregon to change its Medicaid policies when it comes to transgender youth. The state decided to take the advice of the transgender rights group. To quote directly from the report:

Now transgender youth as young as 15 years old can get state-funded counseling, puberty suppressing drugs, and even gender reassignment surgery without parental consent.

The fact sheet from Oregon’s confirms that the age of medical consent in Oregon is in fact 15 years old, which means that these children will be able to access state-funded sex-change operations as well as other “services.”

Yes, it is true that some children experience a gender identity at odds with their sexual identity. It is not true that the only way to resolve this conflict is by embracing a so-called transgender identity for these children. Nor is true that the best way to address conflict is by surgically altering the child’s sexual anatomy.

Studies have shown that 70%-80% of children who report having transgender feelings eventually grow out of them (read about it here). That means that the vast majority of younger children experiencing these difficulties resolve these conflicts over time without any intervention. It also means that any medical interventions causing permanent changes to a child’s body is a short-sighted, long-term cruelty for the 70%-80% who grow out of these feelings and who later experience harmful psychological outcomes. According to one study,

Persons with transsexualism, after sex reassignment, have considerably higher risks for mortality, suicidal behaviour, and psychiatric morbidity than the general population. Our findings suggest that sex reassignment…may not suffice as treatment for transsexualism

And now the state of Oregon is not only allowing this for minors without parental consent. They are also paying for it!

This isn’t a brave new word. It’s moral insanity of the highest order.

The Cell Church

Over twenty years ago Sarah Leslie of Discernment Ministries began doing research on the early stages of the New Apostolic Reformation which was being launched by C. Peter Wagner. In her research she covered what she refers to as the networking hierarchical cell church structure. In this piece she tells us exactly what this all means. This is not the local church, says Sarah, “This is also the structure of a city-wide church (ecumenical) as envisioned and described by the cell church architects. It is also the structure of the multi-site church of Leadership Network.” Before we continue, those of you who are unfamiliar with Leadership Network (LN) should know that this group is the foremost training agency for Christian leaders. LN has trained a generation of “change agent” pastors. That’s right. Change agent pastors. That’s why it’s extremely important for the discerning Christian to discover who LR’s leaders are, the people they’ve trained, and the purpose of their training. Speaking of “purpose” one pastor who went through LN’s training is none other than the Purpose Driven Pope, Rick Warren.

Back to what Sarah was saying: “It would become the model for C. Peter Wagner’s hierarchies — now called the 7 mountains (quite literally a pyramid marketing structure) for apostolic dominion.”

What this is about is transforming the Church through an army of modern day prophets and apostles. These people are highly organized — and they mean business.

Much has changed since Sara started her research twenty-five years ago:

For example, we weren’t sure if we were looking at a multi-headed hydra or a one-headed octopus. The downline networks that were forming in Christendom seemed to be independent of one another, yet there was an ongoing call for unity. It seemed destined to culminate in a one-world church. … For example, the false prophets of the NAR had been calling for a merging of streams into rivers for several decades.

It is now quite obvious that the downline networking model functions by stealth, superimposing its own structure on top of an existing model (such as denominations), until it sucks the old life out of it and ends up totally controlling it. Parachurch organizations such as Leadership Network, trained pastors and leaders across a global spectrum in this new model of church governance. The excessive evangelical fascination with leadership has given rise to cult-like status for its superstars and created lockstep blind followers. (emphasis added)

We hope you’ll visit Herescope to read Sarah Leslie’s informative and fascinating piece. She has provided the reader with a number of charts and graphs.

Sure Signs of His Coming

Second, Jesus prophesied that society will be like it was in the days of Noah when He returns. Books have been written on this, but the main focus of this article is on the rainbow. In the days of Noah, God created the rainbow to remind every living creature that He keeps His Word (Gen. 9:13-17). He doesn’t need to be reminded to keep His Word, but every living creature needs to be reminded that He keeps His Word.

In partnership with an experienced Israeli cattle rancher, The Temple Institute has decided to raise a Red Heifer, in accordance with the Biblical commandment.

The Red Heifer was a cow brought to Temple priests as sacrifice, and its ashes were used for ritual purification of those who had come into contact with a corpse.

A prerequisite of the Third Temple, in order for a Red Heifer to be considered kosher for use, it must be raised from birth in Israel under specific conditions and in a controlled environment.

A Fool, is a Fool, is a Fool, is a Fool…

The “low-info” individual and voter loves Barack H. Obama and are oblivious to where he is leading them, for in their hearts they are just like him in one way or another (Rom. 1:18-32, Jude 1:10). These individuals are beyond all reach of logic and common sense. If we were to ever turn this nation around we need these individuals to wake up and be on board, but that will NEVER EVER happen. These are willingly ignorant, godless, immoral, lawless, moral relativistic sheep of Satan’s secularism and oh how they love it so (Jer. 5:30-31, Rom.1:18-32)!

If these groups of Americans have zero problem receiving such a man as Obama, what is ever to stop them under greater squeezing and tribulation (Rev. 6-9) from receiving the Man of Lawlessness who is to come (2 Thess. 2:8-12, Rev. 13).

Baptist Scholar Says Mormonism Is Evolving Towards Christianity

Angel MoroniProphecy News Watch informs us that Roger Olson, theology professor at Baylor University, believes there has been a shift in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS) that could one day lead to the LDS being viewed as a Christian denomination. For that to happen a great deal would have to change. For starters their President and governing body, known as the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, would have to admit that they’ve been dead wrong on what they believe about God…Jesus Christ…and the Holy Spirit. Moreover they’d have to embrace the essential doctrine of the Trinity held by historic, orthodox Christianity — that there is one God who exists as three separate and distinct persons: The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. The LDS teaches that the trinity is three separate gods: The Father, the Son and the Holly Ghost. This view is unbiblical.

And of course the LDS Church hierarchy would have to admit that Joseph Smith was a false prophet, and then they’d have to apologize for leading millions of Mormons down the path that leads to destruction. [crn_link url=”http://www.prophecynewswatch.com/2015/July07/075.html”%5D

12 Questions for a Preacher to Ask after a Sunday

As you evaluate a given Sunday in your ministry, here are some questions to consider:

  1. Did I proclaim the Word clearly? Your goal should have been for your listeners to hear the Word taught and applied in such a way that they may live more for God.
  2. Did I allow anything or anyone to distract me from the task of proclamation? Sometimes we allow silly things to divert our attention.
  3. Did I pray fervently today? The deeper our prayer, the greater our confession that we cannot do ministry on our own.
  4. Did I avoid anybody today? If you did, that’s probably evidence that you need to work on a relationship.
  5. Would someone know how to follow Jesus based on my word today? The Bible is a book of redemption, and your intent should have been to direct people to Jesus through that Word.
  6. Did I stand before God’s people as holy today? Only you and God know the answer to that question, but that question matters.  A lot.
  7. Was I fully prepared? It’s possible that only you and God know that answer, but you probably gave some evidence to your hearers as well.
  8. Did I operate in God’s strength or in my strength? We know the difference. Be honest.
  9. Did I seek man’s applause? Sometimes we long to hear “good sermon” from our members more than “Well done, good and faithful servant” from the Savior.
  10. Did I thank God for little victories today? Anything that goes well in the Lord’s work is His gift to us.
  11. Do I love God’s church more or less after today? If it’s less, spend some time with the Lord dealing with whatever issues you’re facing.
  12. What changes do I need to make based on today? You may not sense any need for change, but every evaluation like this one is an opportunity to improve.

Sweaty Sanctification: the Tightrope of Salvation

Sgt Charles Daniels, a NYPD police officer, got an unusual call in the early morning of August 7, 1974. Someone had spotted a man standing on a wire suspended between the two tallest buildings in the world, the Twin Towers of the World Trade Centre. He ascended to the tower roof by elevator, which took several minutes. In his words, this is what he saw:

I observed the tightrope ‘dancer’—because you couldn’t call him a ‘walker’—approximately halfway between the two towers. And upon seeing us he started to smile and laugh and he started going into a dancing routine on the high wire….And when he got to the building we asked him to get off the high wire but instead he turned around and ran back out into the middle….He was bouncing up and down. His feet were actually leaving the wire and then he would resettle back on the wire again….Unbelievable really….Everybody was spellbound in the watching of it.”

PetitPhilippe Petit, a petite Frenchman, had planned this illegal 45 minute stunt for six years, including taking aerial photos of the towers being built, studying the swaying of the towers, and designing a 200kg cable and a 25kg balancing pole that he would need to traverse the 61m gap. When asked why he risked his life he replied, “When I see three oranges, I juggle. When I see two towers I walk.” Fair enough.

Amazingly all charges were dropped and he was even asked to autograph the roof beam from which he had stepped onto the cable.

The only balancing act that I can think of that deserves more attention is the tightrope Christians need to navigate in their daily walk to Christlikeness: the balance of our responsibility and God’s sovereignty in sanctification.

On one hand, all evangelicals recognize that God is the one predestines us, calls us, draws us, justifies us, sanctifies us, and glorifies us (Rom 8:30). And he does this with remarkable independence. We call it monergism. On the other, more sweaty, hand, we recognize that our Bibles don’t read themselves, our prayer times don’t come pre-scheduled in our calendars, and our fasting, memorization, or meditation doesn’t occur spontaneously without our concerted effort. Spiritual disciplines don’t seem passive when your alarm sounds at 5:30am for a pre-work prayer time, do they?

The Bible doesn’t speak of spiritual disciplines in any kind of comprehensive catalogue or list. But as you read the biblical narrative and biographies of influential Christian leaders, missionaries, martyrs, and other exemplars in the annals of Church history, particular practices begin to emerge and recur in the accounts like a pleasing motif in a symphony.

Putting Your Past in Its Place

One of the many encouraging trends in the biblical counseling movement is an increased emphasis on the place of suffering in our model and practice. Much more is being written and said about the sadness and brokenness of life than ever before. I believe our sympathetic Savior is pleased by this development, and it has certainly given me direction as I contemplate what wise pastoral ministry sounds, looks, and feels like with people in my office who are under severe trial. Six Thoughts about Proper Pastoral Attire for Worship Services

I never expected to write an article on this topic, and I’m still not certain I should. But I’ve received sufficient questions from readers of the blog and listeners of the podcast to indicate I should tackle the issue.

Allow me three caveats before I go further. First, this post is about high-level issues of attire, not the specifics of fashion and dress. I am not qualified to write about the latter. I once tried to subscribe to GQ and was rejected as unqualified. Second, though I am writing about pastors, much of the content could be applied to other church staff. Third, I am only writing to males. I am not about to delve into issues about female attire.

With those caveats, I must disclose a clear bias of mine. I do not like neckties. They are too similar to a hanging noose for my comfort. With those issues cleared, let’s look at six thoughts about pastoral attire.

  1. Understand the demographic context. Most churches in South Florida and Southern California have different expectations about dress than some churches in Mississippi and Alabama. Find out how other pastors dress in the community. Find out how the men in your own congregation dress for worship services.
  2. Understand the church’s expectations. The expectations of churches in the same community typically vary. Because I speak all over the nation, my assistant always asks my host about the expectations of my attire. I would never want the way I dress to be a distraction or stumbling block.
  3. Understand changes in fashion. I have been fascinated to observe the changes toward a more informal dress in many churches. When I became a member of my church ten years ago, about 90 percent of the men attending wore ties. Now I suspect the number is below 10 percent. Such changes may be a signal to you as a pastor that you can dress a bit more informally.
  4. Lead change gradually. The pastor’s attire in a worship service can be a sacred cow for some church members. Don’t let the way you dress become a major divisive issue. For example, if you notice a more informal trend for dress in your church, you may want to move from wearing a tie all the time to leaving the tie off in the summer months. Gradual change can be better tolerated than radical and sudden change.
  5. Don’t put your preferences ahead of your love for others. The biblical principle of the stumbling block (See 1 Corinthians 8) means that we put our own rights on the backburner for consideration of others. It is not a sin to dress without a tie and coat, but it can be a problem for others. The matter becomes sin when our own preferences become our idol.
  6. Understand your members’ emotional attachment to certain forms of attire. I knew a pastor who was called to serve an established church in the South. Previous pastors had all worn suits and ties in the worship services. On his first Sunday, he wore jeans, an untucked shirt, and sandals. He had the shortest tenure of any pastor in the history of the church.

I welcome your input on this issue. Ladies, feel free to share about female attire for church staff as well. You are far more qualified than I to broach that topic.

5 Ways Mission Agencies Stretch the Truth – “I read a lot of e-mails and newsletters from mission agencies, and I get to see how many of them use statistics to recruit staff, missionaries, and donors. Sadly, in my experience, many exaggerate the truth and undermine the good work God does in the world.”

Sex Has Become Pervasive and Tedious – I quite agree with the major point of this article: That it’s time to end the cultural and media obsession with sex and sexuality.

Regarding public policy, Greg explains why many Christians are currently more focused on same-sex marriage than other sins.

Obama response to Christian killing fields ‘horrifying’

ICC Note: George Marlin’s new book, “Christian Persecution in the Middle East: a 21st Century Tragedy” is bringing light to the realities of persecution in the Middle East today. Highlighting specifics historically
Christian communities, Marlin tells the truth of what is actually happening. He condemns the response of the western world to the genocide developing in Syria and Iraq.

06-08-2015 USA (WND Faith): Syrian Christian families are being forced out of their homes by rebel factions operating with the support of the U.S. and its allies in Syria’s civil war while President Obama continues his policy of ignoring a genocide in the making.

According to George Marlin’s new book, “Christian Persecutions in the Middle East: A 21st Century Tragedy,” acts of violence by Islamic groups forced about 150,000 Iraqi Christians to escape to Syria.

Now, the Christians are running out of places to hide in an increasingly Islamic Middle East.

“Christians in Syria and Iraq are generally caught in the middle of these conflicts and find they are targeted by all sides, because they support democratic reform and are perceived to be sympathetic to the West,” said Marlin, chairman of Aid to the Church in Need USA.

‘Horrified’ by Obama response to persecution

He said the response of the Obama administration to the war on Christianity in the Middle East has been abysmal.

“My hope in writing this book was to remind the West that the unthinkable is real and to jolt the conscience of the West, where too many people have been putting their heads in the sand, including the White House,” Marlin said. “I was horrified at their response of the White House when those Coptic Christians were murdered on the beach in Libya, specifically because they were Christians, and our president referred to them as ‘migrant workers from Egypt.’

“Pope Francis said they were murdered solely because of their faith, and no one has stepped up to the plate on this, no one in Europe, no one at the White House, to condemn what is going on and try to effect change.”

Marlin believes part of the lack of response comes from the fact that Europe, and increasingly America, has lost touch with its Christian roots and thus feel no connection with the persecuted Christians of the Middle East.

The Daily Discovery (July 13, 2015)

War Room: A Review of the Movie and the Industry Surrounding It – “War Room is the latest offering from fraternal film makers Alex and Stephen Kendrick. As is the case with their previous films, War Room is marketed to a Christian audience and written from an evangelical worldview. The movie stars Priscilla Shirer and T.C. Stallings as Elizabeth and Tony Jordan, a married couple with one young daughter named Danielle. Though the Jordans are materially prosperous (Tony is a pharmaceutical salesman and Elizabeth is a Real Estate Agent), their marriage is very unhealthy. The couple argues over money, family relations, has an inactive sex life, and pays so little attention to Danielle that the young girl feels isolated and unloved.”

The Cell Church – “Over twenty years ago Sarah Leslie of Discernment Ministries began doing research on the early stages of the New Apostolic Reformation which was being launched by C. Peter Wagner. In her research she covered what she refers to as the networking hierarchical cell church structure. In this piece she tells us exactly what this all means. This is not the local church, says Sarah, ‘This is also the structure of a city-wide church (ecumenical) as envisioned and described by the cell church architects. It is also the structure of the multi-site church of Leadership Network.’”

Ridiculed? We Could Only Wish! – “I believe that the most unreasonable things in all the world are doubt and unbelief; in fact, atheists and infidels are the most gullible persons living. The modern scientist, who does not believe in the first chapter of the Book of Genesis, and who pours scorn upon the New Testament, believes things infinitely more incredible than he can ever detect in Sacred Scripture.”

Reverent Women – “It’s obvious that our world is growing more and more hostile to the truth of God’s Word and the testimony of His church. Lest believers think this is unjust and respond with incredulity, it’s worth reminding ourselves of the world in which the New Testament was written, and the persecution the first-century church had to endure.”

Hope for a Doomed Nation – “You can always count on John MacArthur giving the truth – plain and simple. Not only what the Bible says about how evil mankind is – and how that evil manifests itself – but also what the Bible says about the only way to rectify that evil. We also talk about some of this in our article ‘Where Are They?’”

What is The Gospel?

Unlikely converts: A Former Lesbian Professor’s Journey to Faith

A Twisted Crown of Thorns ®

Interesting testimony of Professor Butterfield :

As a tenured lesbian professor at Syracuse University, Dr. Butterfield had no desire to become part of the heterosexist, patriarchal culture that she perceived to be the identity of Christianity.

Her thinking was challenged by the letter of a local pastor who inquired about her basic presuppositions and asked her questions no one had ever asked her before. What began as an academic exercise to find fault with the Scripture and expose the darker side of Christianity ended with answers and a changed life that resonates in today’s culture.

Confidentiality in Counseling and Church Discipline?

The Reformed Reader

Handbook of Church Discipline When a pastor, elder, or other Christian mentor/counselor in a church is dealing with a another person’s sin issue, is 100% confidentiality biblical?  Jay Adams argues that it is not.  He makes a good case for this in The Handbook of Church Discipline.  Here’s an edited summary of his argument which specifically has to do with church discipline:

The biblical requirement (Mt. 18:15-17) to seek additional help in the ongoing process of discipline means that Christians must never promise absolute confidentiality to any person.  Frequently it is the practice of Bible-believing Christians to give assurances of absolute confidentiality, never realizing that they are following a policy that originated in the Middle Ages and that is unbiblical and contrary to Scripture (there is not a scrap of evidence in the Bible for the practice).

Both individuals and counselors must be aware of the all-important fact that absolute confidentiality prohibits the…

The Mutual Pleasure of Worship

Unfathomable Grace

Good worship pleases the Lord.

His delight is not in the strength of the horse, nor his pleasure in the legs of a man, but the Lord takes pleasure in those who fear him …     (Psalm 147:10-11)

The Lord takes pleasure in his people …     (Psalm 149:4)

Consider this truth, the Lord who needs nothing and is perfectly satisfied in his Trinitarian communion, creates men and women to enjoy. They are made in his image. Redeemed individuals are his workmanship. His children are his delight. He dances over them for they are the apple of his eye. Therefore, in all that we do as Christians, whether we eat or drink or whatever we do, it is our duty and honor to bring him joy, and this is especially true as we assemble for corporate worship in his house. As his holy family, we ought to focus on our holy God and bring our…
