Three Models for How Christians Can Engage Culture

THINKAPOLOGETICS.COM

Given the current cultural climate, the hot topics that always being talked about are issues such as the same sex marriage and abortion debate. But what I have noticed over the years is that Christians are still struggling to figure out how to exactly engage the culture around them. In other words, should a Christian care about governmental laws? Should they be involved with politics? Should they be trying to impact legislation? Should Christians just pray and let God fight the battles around them? As for myself,  I have invested plenty of time trying to engage the university. Allow me to go ahead and expand on this topic with three models for cultural engagement:

1. The Withdrawal Model: In this model, many Christians are just so disgusted with the evil in the culture that they have decided to separate from it completely. When I say ‘separate’  I mean that these Christians…

Congress is moving to consider a three-month extension of U.S. highway funding after Speaker John Boehner said the House would pass a short-term bill and leave for a summer break without taking up the Senate’s plan.

The problem for gold isn’t just that prices are dropping. For many, the metal also has lost its charisma. Sentiment means a lot in the bullion market, where only about 60 percent of what gets mined or recycled each year is used in jewelry and industrial applications. The rest is sold as coins or bars, so when demand from investors dries up, there can be painful consequences for the bulls who remain.

Days after the U.S. and Turkey announced a breakthrough deal to fight together against the Islamic State, U.S. officials are insisting that — contrary to reports — there are definitely no U.S. plans for a “safe zone” inside Syria. In fact, there really is no “zone,” and there is no plan to keep the area “safe.”

Gun Salesman in Chief Raises Firearm Production by 140%

Barack Obama is proud of his numerous “accomplishments,” but on the issue of gun control, his success rate is admittedly off target. “[T]he one area that I feel that I’ve been most frustrated and most stymied … is the fact that the United States is the one advanced nation on earth in which we do not have sufficient, common-sense gun safety laws,” he lamented last week — a reality made more bitter by the fact Democrats strategically, and unsuccessfully, blame every nefarious shooter’s behavior on the weapons used to inflict harm. Their continuous gratuitous assault on the Second Amendment has America’s gun owners equally if not more frustrated. A new report by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives has found, “[U]nder President Obama, gun production has spiked 140 percent to 10.8 million firearms in 2013, the most recent year for which data is available,” The Hill reported. If the Left’s goal is to reverse gun figures in America, it’s utterly failing. Erich Pratt, a spokesperson with Gun Owners of America, quips, “The ATF report confirms what we already know, that Barack Obama deserves the ‘Gun Salesman of the Decade’ award. People have been rushing to buy firearms because they’re afraid that Obama will take away their Second Amendment rights.” And for good reason. The administration is attempting to prohibit Social Security recipients from owning firearms if they are judged mentally incompetent. “[T]his amount[s] to the largest gun grab in American history,” according to the National Rifle Association. In his final 18 months, Obama will do all he can to ensure his legacy won’t go down as a gun salesman but as a gun confiscator. And that’s all the more reason to remain vigilant.

EPA Extends Deadline on Clean Power Plan

The Environmental Protection Agency is beginning to realize that it might be asking a bit too much from the American economy. Sources at the EPA have told The Washington Post that it is extending the deadline for when coal plants must reduce their greenhouse gas output. The EPA has yet to release the final version of the regulation, but it said coal plants have until 2022 instead of 2020 to conform to the gospel of green and avoid too much stress on the electrical grid. By ceding ground, the EPA admits the Clean Power Plan demanded too much. On a related note, the new ozone standards that the EPA is working on would set the standards so low on the naturally occurring gas that Yosemite National Park and the Grand Canyon would be in violation, according to the National Association of Manufacturers. Things have gone too far when an agency supposedly established to protect the environment finds nature in violation of its decrees.

Obama Spends $6M to Fly Air Force One to Africa

In the age of sequestered military spending — reduced forces, grounded Thunderbirds, Blue Angels stripped of their wings and even blockaded memorials — Barack Obama thinks nothing of pulling nearly $6 million from the Air Force budget to fund the 29-hour Air Force One flight to and from Kenya and Ethiopia. Presidential trips abroad are classified information, and no one quite knows how much Obama spent on this trip to visit his extended family and attend the 2015 Global Entrepreneurship Summit. When he visited Africa in 2013, the trip cost an estimated $100 million. Typically, presidents spend more time abroad in their second term. Currently, Obama is not the executive with the most frequent flyer miles — that platinum membership belongs to Bill Clinton — but Obama is close. Michael Tasselmyer, policy analyst at the National Taxpayers Union Foundation, wrote, “The last official accounting of any Presidential travel was conducted over a decade ago in GAO’s 1999 report on President Clinton’s trips to Africa, Chile, and China. … There are understandable security considerations to keep in mind, but until more information is made available, there can be no public debate on the costs and benefits of international travel.” It’s not so much the travel money, it’s the priorities.

Olympic Size Price Tag Too Much for Boston

By Nate Jackson

2015-07-29-acc6397f_large.jpg

Everybody loves the Olympics, right? The grit, the feats, the glory, the decathlon champ who later decides he’s a woman. All kidding aside, every two years (summer and winter, respectively), the world gathers its best athletes to compete for sport and national pride. But is it worth the price of admission?

Boston and the International Olympics Committee (IOC) came to an agreement of sorts: No, it isn’t worth the enormous cost for Boston to host the 2024 Olympic Games.

It’s revealing that both parties agreed because neither wanted to be liable for the inevitable cost overruns. Boston Mayor Martin Walsh refused to sign a host city contract with the United States Olympic Committee that would put Boston’s taxpayers on the hook for the extra costs (i.e., absolving the IOC), so the committee cut Boston out of the running. Walsh said, “This is me letting the taxpayers of Boston know … that I will not sign a document that puts one dollar of taxpayers’ money on the line for one penny of overruns for the Olympics.”

Walsh is right in a sense; the spectacle of the Olympics is an expensive façade, and there are always cost overruns. Cities and countries spend billions of dollars updating or building infrastructure, with the accompanying traffic delays and detours for citizens, all for two weeks of glory on the world stage. That isn’t to say those two weeks aren’t really fun and glorious…

As a side note, this phenomenon is certainly not limited to the Olympics. American taxpayers fork over billions of dollars in what are essentially subsidies to our own major national sports. For example, the National Football League, a “nonprofit” until it dropped the charade in April, has secured billions for stadiums around the country, which are then replaced a couple of decades later when they’re deemed “outdated.”

The last time the summer Olympics were held in the U.S. was 1996 in Atlanta. But what of the Olympic venues in Atlanta today? Turner Field, formerly known as Olympic Stadium, is home to Major League Baseball’s Braves, but it will be demolished when the team moves in 2017 to another venue built with $450 million in taxpayer money in suburban Cobb County. And Turner Field is the only Olympic venue in Georgia’s biggest city still in operation. So much for the “investment” in 1996.

What about more recent years? Mark Alexander described his first-hand experience at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, which cost China $40 billion:

“China put on its best face, rather like a movie set. Beijing’s new airport is among the world’s finest. Every main Olympic thoroughfare was newly paved, signed, landscaped and lighted. Even the primary rural routes outside the city had makeovers, with fresh paint and greenery covering 100 feet on either side of those roads. Beyond that makeup, however, was the dirt and dilapidation that makes up most of China’s rural areas.

“The new Olympic structures were certainly impressive, though few of the 250,000 people who were ejected from Soviet-era block housing that formerly blighted the Olympic green were adequately compensated. Indeed, many of them did not receive alternate housing.”

Just four years later, Beijing’s shining venues looked no different than much of the rest of the country — worn and abandoned monuments to failed central planning. And the subjects of the “People’s Republic” are certainly no better off, which is why Chinese activists are pushing the IOC to reject Beijing’s 2022 Winter Olympics bid.

Finally, remember when the IOC rejected Chicago’s (and, by extension, Barack Obama’s) bid for the 2016 games? The Windy City blew $100 million on that rejection.

All that said, there is a spirit about the Olympics that’s tough to quantify with a price tag. National Review’s Jay Nordlinger, for one, is sorry to see Boston give up. “Generations ago,” he writes, “when we were a much poorer country than now, we did things like host the Olympics, because we felt we should. We wanted to. Such deeds comported with our sense of ourselves — with the way we thought of our place in the world, and what we had to offer mankind.”

Who can forget the overwhelming national pride after the 1980 USA hockey team defeated the mighty and heavily favored Soviets in the “Miracle on Ice” at Lake Placid? Is there a price tag applicable to such a moment?

Perhaps it’s the utter waste of the last decade in Washington that has left so many Americans feeling like saving rather than spending. Perhaps no one thinks all that much of Barack Obama’s America any more — that was his goal, after all — and they conclude the Olympics just aren’t worth hosting. We’d only note this irony: The Olympics are becoming unaffordable because other nations are driving up the cost with Obama-style “stimulus” bids. America can do better. But it won’t happen in Boston 2024.

OPINION IN BRIEF

Jonah Goldberg: “Basically, working teaches young people how to work. There’s no substitute for it. That’s one reason I find the race to raise the minimum wage across the country so problematic. I understand the good intentions underlying it. But the idea that the minimum wage — at least for young workers — should be a ‘living wage’ is absurd, even immoral. Employers are taking a risk when they hire people with no work experience. Why further discourage that? Subsidize something and you get more of it. Tax it and you get less. There are plenty of ways to subsidize low-skill hiring — an expanded earned-income tax credit, for instance. Instead, a higher minimum wage taxes the employers who hire low-skill workers. That’s nuts. … America is raising a whole generation of ‘leaders’ who see the people they are supposed to represent as abstractions rather than as individuals they have served, worked with or worked for. Just as we want civilian leaders who know what it’s like to wear the uniform, we want policymakers who know what it’s like to work — and hire — in the trenches.”

SHORT CUTS

Insight: “[Tyrannical] power is absolute, minute, regular, provident and mild. It would be like the authority of a parent if, like that authority, its object was to prepare men for manhood; but it seeks, on the contrary, to keep them in perpetual childhood: it is well content that the people should rejoice, provided they think of nothing but rejoicing.” —French historian Alexis de Tocqueville (1805-1859)

Demo-gogues: “Coming from a rural state, I think I can communicate with folks coming from urban states, where guns mean different things than they do in Vermont, where [they are] used for hunting. … I believe that we need to make sure that certain types of guns used to kill people exclusively — not for hunting — they should not be sold in the United States of America.” —Bernie Sanders

Village Idiots: “[Keystone XL] is President Obama’s decision, and I am not going to second-guess him because I was in a position to set this in motion and I do not think that would be the right thing to do.” —Hillary Clinton, who refuses to reveal her position on Keystone

Not a vote of confidence: “[N]othing in [the Iranian nuclear] agreement is based on trust. Nothing is based on an expectation of some change of behavior.” —John Kerry

Cashing in on evil: “Right now, Republicans in Washington are pushing legislation allowing employers to fire single women for getting pregnant — AND they’re leading an ‘investigation’ to undercut Planned Parenthood. This makes my head explode. I’m confident that if we had more women leading in Washington, we would not still be dealing with the right wing’s efforts to trample women’s health care.” —Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) in a fundraising email

And last… “59% of poll respondents said wedding-related businesses with religious objections should be allowed to refuse service to gay and lesbian couples. The other 41% think it’s super smart to eat food made by someone you just finished bullying.” —Fred Thompson

If The American Dream Is To Own A Home, Then It Hasn’t Been In Worse Shape Since 1967

Home House For Sale Mortgage MortgagesThanks to the “Obama recovery”, the rate of homeownership in the United States has fallen to the lowest level in 48 years.  The percentage of Americans that own a home is widely considered to be a key indicator of the health of the middle class, and we have just learned that during the second quarter of 2015 that number dropped from 63.7 percent to 63.4 percent.  It is now the lowest that it has been since 1967.  Unlike a lot of other government economic statistics, this one is fairly difficult to manipulate.  Either someone owns a home or they do not.  And what the homeownership rate is telling us is that the percentage of Americans that can qualify for a mortgage has been falling dramatically.  Just take a look at the following chart.  This is not just a decline – this is a complete and utter collapse… (Read More…)

An Expert That Correctly Called The Last Two Stock Market Crashes Is Now Predicting Another One

Hussman ChartWhat I am about to share with you is quite stunning.  A well-respected financial expert that correctly predicted the last two stock market crashes is now warning that we are right on the verge of the next one.  John Hussman is a former professor of economics and international finance at the University of Michigan, and the information in his latest weekly market comment is staggering.  Since 1970, there have only been a handful of times when a combination of market signals that Hussman uses have indicated that a major market peak has been reached.  In 1972, 2000 and 2007 each of those peaks was followed by a dramatic stock market crash.  Now, for the first time since the last financial crisis, all four of those signals appeared once again during the week of July 17th.  If Hussman’s analysis is correct, this could very well mean that the next great stock market crash in the United States is imminent. Market Manipulation Goes Global (Are you prepared for a hubris driven downdraft?)

Mao cc

It hasn’t GONE global. It’s long been global and on a massive scale. But China is freaking people out.

Play this game if you want. But understand that it is a game which is run by cronies, for cronies, and that cronies are very fallible. Can you handle the kind of downdraft which may come when reality catches up with the hubris of central bankers?

It’s an important question, and one which should be asked when things (in the USA) are still relatively calm.

March of Dimes Admits 5 Local Chapters Donated to Planned Parenthood

(The Daily Signal / Kate Scanlon)  March of Dimes, an organization that seeks to end premature birth, is facing criticism from its supporters for donations local chapters made to Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion provider. The controversy comes amid the release of undercover videos about Planned Parenthood’s alleged sale of aborted fetal body parts. Lawmakers in […]

The McAvany Intel Memo

This writer has long been fascinated by the parallels between the rise of Hitler’s Nazi dictatorship in Germany in the 1930s, and what is happening in America today as we move toward a totalitarian police state. Sadly, today, just as in Germany in the 1930s, most American’s are totally clueless that they are losing their freedom and moving rapidly toward a socialist dictatorship very similar to the Third Reich – except in the present case, a very high-tech police state.

The parallels between Nazi Germany in the 1930s and the psychology of the German people and America and the psychology of the people circa 2015 are very ominous. So gradual was the strangulation of freedom in Germany in the ’30s (i.e., the slow boiling of the frog) that they never even knew they had lost their freedom until near the end of the war. The same thing is happening in America today – and people who try to sound a warning in America today are likewise seen by the government and the great majority as alarmists, extremists, anti-government radicals, and perhaps even “potential domestic terrorists.” As in Nazi Germany, they may one day be locked up, silenced, or worse.

Ted Cruz Challenges Obama To Debate Iran Nuclear Deal Before The American People

Senator Ted Cruz on Monday challenged President Obama to debate the “substance” of the Iran deal.

“Since Obama’s not willing to discuss the substance, I’ll make an invitation right here tonight, which is I invite President Obama at any time and place of his choosing to debate the substance of the Iran deal,” he said on Fox News’s “Hannity.”  “Let’s do it in front of the American people.”

If he’s unwilling to show up, he can send as a proxy John Kerry,” he added. The 2016 presidential candidate starkly opposes Obama’s Iran deal, and said that if it passes through Congress, “the Obama administration will become quite literally the world’s leading financier of radical Islamic terrorism.” source

Liberals Vent Outrage At Killing Of Cecil The Lion But Silent On Abortion Deaths Of Little Babies

To a liberal, one lion’s life has more value than 327,653 human babies in their mother’s wombs.

“Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!” Isaiah 5:20 (KJV)

Liberals in America and abroad are horrified at the hunting death of Cecil the Lion in South Africa by American dentist Dr. Walter J. Palmer. Social media has lit up in outrage over someone who would dare kill the beloved lion for sport. In the headlines today, Palmer is being lambasted as a “coward and a killer” and is receiving multiple death threats. PETA has said on it’s Twitter account that Palmer should “hang himself” for what he did. Wow, truly a hardcore reaction. But evidently, killing human babies is ok.

liberals-outraged-at-death-cecil-lion-say-nothing-about-abortion-planned-parenthood-sells-baby-parts

I am writing this article at 11:48 AM EST on July 29, 2015. Since midnight last night, 1,470 abortions were performed in America with 53, 983 performed worldwide. From the time that I started to type just this very sentence, 30 abortions have been completed with the blood still flowing from their mothers wombs. 30 dead babies in the time it took to write that one sentence! Yet, there is no liberal outrage, no calls for abortion doctors to “hang themselves”, no lit candles and stuffed animal memorials set up anywhere by liberals in any walk of life.

Why not?

Late night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel, when discussing the fate of Cecil the Lion on his show last night, became so overwhelming with emotion that he actually cried on-air. I, too, think it’s a sad thing and I agree Cecil should never have been shot. If there was wrongdoing by the dentist, then he should have to explain that in a court of law. But why can’t liberals have this same kind of reaction at the slaughter of defenseless human beings? Listen as Jimmy Kimmel describes in great, graphic detail how Cecil was killed:

So, Jimmy Kimmel, if you are reading this, in the interest of equal time how about describing this on your show tomorrow night?

The cervix must be dilated before the abortion. Usually Laminaria sticks are inserted into the cervix. These are made of sterilized seaweed that is compressed into thin sticks. When inserted, they absorb moisture and expand, thus enlarging the cervix.  A pliers-like instrument is inserted through the cervix into the uterus. The abortionist then seizes a leg, arm or other part of the baby and, with a twisting motion, tears it from the body. This continues until only the head remains.  Finally the skull is crushed and pulled out. The nurse must then reassemble the body parts to be sure that all of them were removed.

Since the time that I started to write this article at 11:48 AM EST on July 29, 2015, over 500 babies have been aborted worldwide. Where is the liberal outrage for that?

Kerry to Visit Middle East – but Not Israel

Posted: 29 Jul 2015 06:38 AM PDT

United States Secretary of State John Kerry will visit the Middle East next week but will be skipping Israel, his spokesman said on Monday. In his daily briefing, State Department spokesman John Kirby announced that Kerry would be in Cairo on August 2 to discuss bilateral ties with Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry. From there, Kirby added, Kerry will travel to Qatar, where he will meet with the foreign ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council in the capital Doha for discussions of the Iran deal, among other issues.

Asked why Kerry would not be visiting Israel during the trip, the spokesman responded, “It’s just not part of the parameters for this trip. It’s not – it wasn’t a deliberate decision not to go. It’s literally – it’s an around-the-world trip.” Kirby added that Kerry “has been in touch with Prime Minister [Binyamin] Netanyahu many, many times over the last several weeks in terms of discussing the deal and the parameters of it. So it’s not as if we aren’t in constant communication with Israeli counterparts about this.” The last call Kerry and Netanyahu held was on July 16, Kirby said in response to a question from a reporter. Earth Will Only Have 12 Hours To Prepare For Massive Solar Storm

Posted: 29 Jul 2015 06:28 AM PDT

Trains will be disrupted, power will go out, satellite signals will go wonky – that’s what we have to look forward to when the sun next has a melt down, and we’re unlikely to get more than 12 hours warning. In a new government document, the Department of Business, Innovation and Skills has laid out its Space Weather Preparedness Strategy, outlining the risks of unsettled space weather as well as what it plans to do about them.

The document explains that the worst case scenario is a ‘coronal mass ejection’ – huge eruptions on the sun which cause parts of its corona to detach. The corona is the pearly glow around the sun that you can only usually see during a total solar eclipse, made up of plasma and rarefied gases. The worst case scenario is based on the Carrington event of 1859, which caused solar-flare related x-rays and radiation storms. In 2015, a similar event could cause the national grid to fail, satellite operations to shut down, increased radiation on flights and upset to electronic systems. MORE

Why So Many People Think Pope Francis Is the Antichrist

Posted: 29 Jul 2015 06:22 AM PDT

If you type “is Pope Francis antichrist” into Google, you’ll get about 425,000 results in .37 seconds. By way of comparison, if you ask Google the same question about Pope Benedict you only get 137,000 and it takes a little longer—.47 seconds. So why do so many people think—or at least ponder—that the Latin American pontiff is the Antichrist (or at least the end-time False Prophet mentioned in Revelation 19:20)? It could be for some of the same reasons his popularity is declining. His approval rating in the United States has dropped from 76 percent a year ago to 56 percent today, according to Gallup.

Indeed, even Roman Catholics are cooling off to Francis, the first-ever Jesuit pope who emerged as a darling among the evangelical community when he took over for the retiring Benedict. Some Pentecostal onlookers suggested he was Spirit-filled. And Kenneth Copeland and James Robison met privately with the pope in Rome and exchanged high-fives. So what gives? Reuters’ Scott Malone points out: “The decline comes as Francis has changed the focus of his public remarks from that of his immediate predecessors, concentrating less on the Church’s opposition to abortion and gay marriage and spending more of his time discussing social inequity and poverty.” MORE

President Obama to Abortionists: ‘Thank you, Planned Parenthood. God Bless You.’

Posted: 29 Jul 2015 06:16 AM PDT

Planned Parenthood pays no taxes. Under President Obama, made more than $500 million in profits, but they claim to be a “non-profit” organization. They Abort more 800 children every day. And they have from the earliest days targeted minority women. They once had a “Negro Ministers” project designed to recruit black pastors to push first birth control and then abortion in minority neighborhoods. Now, in two startling videos, we have seen Planned Parenthood leaders engaged in a ghoulish traffic in the organs of unborn children whom they have killed.

My colleague at Family Research Council, Tony Perkins, discussed this horror on his recent radio show in an interview with former Pennsylvania senator and presidential candidate, Rick Santorum. “Hearts, lungs, livers” are the sought-after treasures of these scavengers. Deborah Nucatola is Planned Parenthood’s senior director of medical research. Nucatola is seen on this video casually discussing the mechanics of death and dismemberment of children in the womb. Nucatola sips her glass of red wine as she offers this, from John McCormick’s Weekly Standard article: MORE

Satanist Bows to Jesus, Gets Filled With the Holy Spirit and Preaches the Gospel

Posted: 28 Jul 2015 09:41 PM PDT

“He can make your back feel better,” his mother said. And she was right. The “doctor” healed 9-year-old Pedro Ochoa’s back—the excruciating pain was gone! But this was no ordinary Honduran doctor. The man was a self-described “new age white magic” doctor—a Satan worshipper. Little did the young boy know that from that moment on, Satan had plans for Pedro’s life.

Pedro’s father was a businessman who traveled extensively. He divorced Pedro’s mother after she had an affair. Pedro, now 14, and his two younger sisters chose to stay with her. Two months later, Pedro’s mom walked out on the children, leaving Pedro in charge of his sisters and an infant cousin she had been caring for. “I felt so vulnerable,” Pedro recalls. “So incredibly hurt.”

Feeling powerless to change his situation and that he needed protection from the world crashing in around him, Pedro remembered the doctor who healed him through white magic.”When I told him about my situation, the doctor said he could help me,” Pedro recalls. “He told me that he could give me power and a god who is going to care about me and make me rich. He said that I would be able to grow a lot in this religion and become so powerful that I would be invincible if I would study the materials and consecrate myself to this god.” MORE

Genetics Expert Confirms the Reality of Adam and Eve

Posted: 28 Jul 2015 09:36 PM PDT

Modern-day DNA research is confirming the biblical account of Adam and Eve, according to one genetics expert. Answers in Genesis’ Georgia Purdom has recently released a documentary explaining her findings and the scientific support for the records presented in Genesis. “One of the most compelling genetic evidences for an original human couple created by God is mitochondrial DNA research done by creation geneticist, Dr. Nathaniel Jeanson,” Purdom says.

“He clearly shows that the common human female ancestor of us all (biblical Eve) lived within the biblical timeframe of several thousand years ago.” Jeanson has also done research disproving the evolutionary timescale. What the scientific jargon breaks down to is this: If evolution were true, if men and women had been roaming the planet for years, there would be more genetic diversity. Obama Confident He Could Win a Third Term: Is He Prophesying?

Posted: 28 Jul 2015 09:31 PM PDT

Barack Obama told African leaders that he thinks he would win a third term if given the chance to run again. “I actually think I’m a pretty good president—I think if I ran, I could win—but I can’t!” Obama said. But since 1951, a Congressional law has prohibited any person from taking more than two four-year terms. Obama, however, has a track record for bypassing Congress and issuing executive orders. In 2015 alone, the president has issued 13 decrees addressing everything from North Korea to cyber security to court-martialing. With this summer’s Operation Jade Helm—

a massive military training exercise across the southwest—questions arise about the commander in chief’s intentions in office, and if he plans to vacate or declare another executive order giving himself power over the American people. Even the Washington Post picked up on the rumblings of Obama’s potential martial law and the theories behind the exercises. “The idea there was that this was an American response to the imminent start of World War III, since ‘drills are always the way that operations are designed to position men and materials ahead of an operation,’” The Post’s Philip Bump wrote earlier this month. Prophecy: Donald Trump Shall Become the Trumpet

Posted: 28 Jul 2015 09:23 PM PDT

WRITTEN BY JEREMIAH JOHNSON – In His great wisdom throughout the course of human history, God has chosen not only to fulfill His plans and purposes through men and women who have yielded to the sound of His voice, but He has also chosen to accomplish His will through men and women who have ignored and rebelled against Him. One such man was King Cyrus mentioned in Isaiah 45. Isaiah prophesied of Cyrus and speaks as a mouthpiece of the Lord when he declared, “I have even called you by your name [Cyrus]; I have named you, though you have not known Me. I am the Lord and there is no other; there is no God besides Me.

I strengthen you, though you have not known Me, so that they may know from the rising of the sun and from the west that there is no one besides Me. I am the Lord, and there is no other” (Is. 45:4-6). What a powerful and profound prophetic declaration to a man who did not know or serve the Lord! Could God not use the wicked and ungodly to bring about His plans and purposes thousands of years ago and can He not still do the same thing again, especially in the midst of the crisis that we find America in today?  MORE

China Pushes To Rewrite Rules Of Global Internet

Posted: 28 Jul 2015 09:13 PM PDT

As social media helped topple regimes in the Middle East and northern Africa, a senior colonel in the People’s Liberation Army publicly warned that an Internet dominated by the U.S. threatened to overthrow China’s Communist Party. Ye Zheng and a Chinese researcher, writing in the state-run China Youth Daily, said the Internet represented a new form of global control, and the U.S. was a “shadow” present during some of those popular uprisings.

Beijing had better pay attention. Four years after they sounded that alarm, China is paying a lot of attention. Its government is pushing to rewrite the rules of the global Internet, aiming to draw the world’s largest group of Internet users away from an interconnected global commons and to increasingly run parts of the Internet on China’s terms. It envisions a future in which governments patrol online discourse like border-control agents, rather than let the U.S., long the world’s digital leader, dictate the rules. An Expert That Correctly Called The Last Two Stock Market Crashes Is Now Predicting Another One

Posted: 28 Jul 2015 09:04 PM PDT

What I am about to share with you is quite stunning.

MORE

“My Last Day” — the Jesus Anime

9 powerful minutes of animation that begins with a thief behind bars watching the scourging of Jesus, and it ends with the thief dying next to Jesus, and waking to see Him in a beautiful place.

The dying thief: What was so great about his faith?

There are many acts of extraordinary faith in the Bible. The one that has impressed me the most concerns the dying thief on the cross. We could take the approach that he had nothing to lose, so he decided to cast his lot with Jesus. But this makes absolutely no sense of the text and the context.
In this conversion we have a specific fulfillment of Christ’s first words on the cross. No sooner had Christ spoken the words, “Father, forgive them,” had the Father answered that prayer by turning a once-reviling criminal into a Christ-glorifying saint. While the soon-to-be converted criminal was not directly responsible for Christ’s death, he nevertheless joined with those who were and was thus indirectly addressed when Christ asked for God to forgive “them.”
Christ, the sinless one, was numbered with or counted among the transgressors (Isa. 53:12; Luke 22:37), all of whom have a bigger problem than the day-to-day sins they commit. They hate Christ, the God-man. Anyone who has a master other than the Lord Jesus hates him (Lk. 16:13; Gal. 4:8). That these two criminals loathed him is clearly manifested during the crucifixion: “And the robbers who were crucified with him also reviled him in the same way” (Matt. 27:44).
When the criminal who was converted was doing his worst against Christ, Christ was doing his best for this criminal.
The conversion of the one criminal was most extraordinary and testifies to the power of Christ’s prayer and the grace of God. Why?
This criminal’s faith did not come at a time such as when Christ turned water into wine; or performed miracles, such as walking on water, opening the eyes of a blind man, or raising Lazarus from the dead. No! The criminal believed on the Messiah while he was hanging as one cursed upon a tree. The criminal trusted in and boldly defended the one whose disciples had abandoned him. Jesus was at his lowest when this criminal asked to be remembered in Christ’s kingdom.
When he was on the cross, did anyone publicly cry out, as John the Baptist did, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!” (Jn. 1:29)? But this is essentially what the dying thief did. Little wonder, then, that Christ should promise him a place in his kingdom: “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise” (Lk. 23:43).
The criminal acknowledged he was guilty; he acknowledged that Christ was not (“this man has done nothing wrong”); he feared God; but, and here is the key: the criminal did not merely want to be in a better place. He wanted to be with Christ in a better place: “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom” (Lk. 23:42). The criminal believed “against all hope”.
Heaven is a better place because that is where Christ is. Everyone wants to go to heaven, but not everyone wants to go to Christ’s heaven. Not so with this criminal: he saw, with his eyes, Christ at his worst; but with the eyes of faith, he believed that Christ would soon be at his best, and so put his faith in a dying king.
Christ is always – always! – willing to save even the most miserable of sinners. A recognition of guilt (Lk. 23:40) and a confidence in him and not ourselves (Lk. 23:42) will always lead to the most assuring truth a sinner can receive: the Savior welcomes such into his paradise!
“One is saved, and we may not despair; the other is lost, and we may not presume.” Spurgeon

No Platform High Enough

When it is platform you crave, when it is the size or the popularity of your following that you use as the measure of your success, you will inevitably and eventually find that there is no platform high enough. No success will ever perfectly fulfill your ambitions.

When it is recognition that you are after, affirmation of your hard work, affirmation of your skills or wisdom or contributions, there can be no reward fulfilling enough. There will always be one more acknowledgment you want and one more you are sure you need.

When it is the size of your congregation that motivates your actions and serves as your goal, not even a megachurch will satisfy. There is no church big enough. Even if the church is packed to the rafters, and even if it expands to campuses around the city or state, you will remain unfulfilled.

When it is money that motivates and money that promises joy, your satisfaction in money will only ever be hollow. If joy promises that it is just a salary increase away, you will find that joy remains forever just out of reach. There is no wealth great enough. You will always crave just a little bit more.

Can Hipster Christianity Save Churches From Decline?

SCOTUS: Too Much and Too Little

The root of the tragedy of the SCOTUS decision is that sexual orientation as a category of personhood is both too much and too little all at once, too weighty for the soul to bear and not capacious enough to portray God’s power to redeem, transform, lay down his life, and live again in and through His people. We are a Galatians 2:20 people, having been crucified with Christ so that we no longer live, but Christ alone lives in us. We died. We stand only in the risen Christ. This is as true and universal for those among us who struggle with same sex desire as it is for those who struggle with other sinful distortions of the fall, other indwelling sin patterns.

How We Interpret Texts Really Matters

A small group meets and reads a passage of Scripture. They then go around the room and ask each person, “What does this passage mean to you?” The sincere Christians who are there to learn and grow have no formal training and not much knowledge of the Scriptures, so their response of “Well, to me, this means . . .” is very likely to be different from what Paul or Peter or Matthew or John intended when they wrote the text. But, who cares, right?

6 Reasons to Guard Your Eyes

by Erin Davis | 7/29/15

Caution: Contains explicit material not suitable for all readers.

Monday I waved a caution flag warning that porn is everywhere in our culture and is increasingly socially acceptable among Christians. That whole post might have felt like I was simply stating the obvious. You’ve been to the mall (bookstore, movie theater, etc.); you know that sex is everywhere.

What you may be wondering is why it matters. So what if porn is everywhere? Why does it matter if you go with the flow and watch, read, and listen to sexual content?

That is a million-dollar question, and one that is hotly debated. While no one would come out and call themselves pro-porn, many would argue that allowing yourself to be exposed to sexual content won’t hurt you. Those folks would be misinformed. Here are six reasons why exposing yourself to porn (remember porn simply means the depiction of erotic behavior) matters.

The Liberal Influence on Children and Karen Swallow Prior

Karen Swallow Prior has been under a lot of heat lately due to her affirmation of gays, and her reasoning for her abortion beliefs being grounded in social justice rather than Scripture. While she is probably best known for her position at Liberty University as an English teacher, she is also a Research Fellow at the left-leaning Ethics and Religious Liberties Commission (ERLC) for the Southern Baptist Convention. She is also been shown to be very influential among her students, her peers, as well as homosexuals. But it should be known that these aren’t the only ones she has the potential to sway towards the left.

As a teacher at a Christian university, with as much renown as Prior, her opinions are highly sought after. She writes for many publications on a regular basis, and has a clan-like following that would defend her to no end. While being tied up around the issue of homosexual affirmation, some of her other liberal ideologies have been overlooked, but should be given attention. There are at least two important issues that can affect your children; she supports the liberal Common Core education program, and she practices and defends authentic Yoga, a form of Pagan Hindu mysticism.

Why should we be worried about this? Because these things have already crept into our public schools, and even our private Christian schools.

Can atheists know right from wrong?

By Matt Slick

Yes, atheists can know right from wrong because the Bible says so.

Romans 1:14-15, “For when Gentiles who do not have the Law do instinctively the things of the Law, these, not having the Law, are a law to themselves, 15 in that they show the work of the Law written in their hearts, their conscience bearing witness and their thoughts alternately accusing or else defending them.”

The Bible tells us that everyone has the law written on his heart. The law is those do’s and don’ts of moral behavior. Consider the 10 Commandments in Exodus 20:1-17 which tell us such things as do not lie, steal, or commit adultery. Though not all unbelievers acknowledge all of the moral truths in those commandments, they sufficiently recognize moral truths and show they are written on their own hearts.

However, they suppress the knowledge of God and moral laws of God in their unrighteousness.

Romans 1:20-21, “For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse. 21 For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened.”

Hillsong’s Darlene Zschech Condemns Christians and aligns herself to Roman Catholicism

Churchwatch Central warns:

It is important for Christians to grasp just how dangerous Darlene Zschech has become in light of her allegiance to Rome and her condemnation of Christians who have spoken out against her worship for the pope. While this article is long, it will be worth your time reading to see how much Zschech has aligned herself to Roman Catholicism by examining her theology.

A FALSE SPIRIT

Darlene says she can see what “the Holy Spirit is doing around the earth” claiming it “is completely breathtaking.” However, she notes “His role in our experience of following Jesus makes us so very similar.” Notice that this is NOT the Holy Spirit as the Holy Spirit is called the Spirit of Truth. While Mrs. Zschech is not zschecking to see if this spirit is the Holy Spirit or another spirit at work, she is elevating this phenomena and “experience” as though it is.

Darlene also states,

“I relate it being a part of a family.. different characteristics, faces, tastes and giftings.. yet a DNA running through our veins that draw us together.”

Once again. No truth. No holiness. Just flights of fancy and delusion at best.

Mark Driscoll Confirms Move to Phoenix, Sparks Speculation of Church Plant

Christian Headlines reports:

Controversial pastor Mark Driscoll has reportedly announced plans to move to Phoenix Arizona. Christian Today reports the pastor confirmed his move but said there are “no concrete plans for ongoing local church ministry as of yet.”

In an email, Driscoll said church ministry, “remains a calling and desire, but my plan is not to rush into anything. Instead, caring for each member of our family, seeking the wise counsel of pastors we are walking with, and building local relationships with Christian leaders to help build churches locally and globally is our focus. Beyond that, we will see how the Lord leads.”

Still, some believe Driscoll’s move has to do with a new church planting endeavor.

Recently, Driscoll took part in Hillsong Church’s conferences in Australia and London through a videotaped interview with Hillsong founder Brian Houston. Critics protested the event, arguing that the pastor had not sought repentance for past sins against the former Mars Hill Church.

Shocking gender indoctrination in California: VIDEO

Do not be surprised, but  Young children are being taught that they can choose to be a boy or a girl — or both. Boys, for example, should be comfortable wearing girls’ clothes and nail polish, etc. And there aren’t just two genders, there can be a range. And, of course, the school does not allow […]

Even The Pagans Understood Marriage

They do not write a marriage contract between males: for though the pagans are assumed to practice homosexuality, and in fact, do practice it, they are not so far gone in derision of the commandment against it as actually to write a marriage contract.   —Rabbi Rashi (1040–1105 AD) quoted in Milton Himmelfarb, The Jews […]

Our children, confusion and clarity

The visible church certainly has some challenges these days with the legality of same sex marriage and a culture of sin becoming more acceptable in the pews, and even in some who shepherd the flock. But wait, there’s more. There is a dramatic push in our schools to indoctrinate boys and girls as young as […]

“I’m a Christian” Would You Define That Please?

Planned Parenthood: The Gift That Keeps On Giving

You gotta love it when one of the most sinister and despicable organisations in the world keeps outing itself. Any outfit that gets rich off of killing babies is right up there with the Nazi killing machine, and every new video released by the Center for Medical Progress is another long overdue nail in its coffin.

pp 6The latest video is an absolute shocker. If it does not make you feel utterly sick, then you are devoid of a conscience. This may well be the most damning video so far. Please watch it and share it widely. As one report states:

A third Planned Parenthood video was released Tuesday morning that features a whistleblower who says her biomedical company would compensate Planned Parenthood clinics for fetal organs based on their condition and quality after being extracted from an abortion. Holly O’Donnell is a former technician for California-based Stem Express, a company that contracts with abortion clinics for the tissue.
“The more valuable the tissue the more money you get, so if you can somehow procure a brain or a heart you’re going to get more money than just umbilical cord,” O’Donnell says in the video. “So I guess that’s incentive to try and get the hard stuff because they get more money.”
The footage shows medical professionals picking through trays of aborted fetal tissue for legs and other recognizable body parts. O’Donnell says that when she was asked to participate, she fainted. She also names Cate Dyer, the president and founder of Stem Express, saying Dyer makes “a lot of money.”
“It’s basically a huge trafficking of fetal tissues,” O’Donnell says. “It’s a pretty sick company.” The video also features Katharine Sheehan, medical director for Planned Parenthood Pacific Southwest, talking about procuring fetal organs with an actor posing as a buyer for a human tissue company.

Another report about the gruesome 11-minute video says this:

In a jarring interview, O’Donnell remembers learning that was part of her work routine. “I thought I was going to be just drawing blood, not procuring tissue from aborted fetuses,” O’Donnell said. But on her first day on the job in 2012, she remembers someone emptying a bottle of blood into a strainer, then placing its contents onto a plate.
Her trainer began pulling aborted babies’ body parts out of the mass of tissue. “She said, ‘OK, this is a head. This is an arm. This is a leg,'” O’Donnell remembers. Then the trainer asked her if she could identify the body parts.
“I took the tweezers. I put them in the dish. I remember grabbing the leg…and the moment I picked it up I just feel like deaths and pain…shoot up through my body,” O’Donnell says. “I blacked out, basically.” She says she had to be revived with smelling salts. Another worker tried to reassure her, saying, “Don’t worry. It still happens to a bunch of us. Some of us don’t ever get over it”
“I remember leaving that day [thinking] like, what have I gotten myself into?” O’Donnell admits. In time, she found that the business owners “weren’t looking for any compassionate individual at all. They were just looking for someone who could get as much money, as many samples” as possible. “They wanted someone who could get the numbers up.”
She said the main nurse from Planned Parenthood was always concerned that StemExpress procure the specimens they sought – not because of concern of medical research, but because the facilities were compensated for it.
“For whatever we could procure, they would get a certain percentage,” she says. “The main nurse was always trying to make sure we got our specimens. No one else really cared, but the main nurse did because she knew that Planned Parenthood was getting compensated.”
“If you can somehow procure a brain of a heart, you’re going to get more money,” she adds. “It’s a pretty sick company.”

It sure is sick. It comes straight out of the pits of hell. If anyone has any lingering doubts about the demonic world of abortion and the death cult known as Planned Parenthood, watch this video if you dare. It may be stomach-turning but it must be watched: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xw2xi9mhmuo

I have said it before and will say it again: many Germans did not know or claimed to not know what was happening while the Nazis were in power. Thus after the war the Allies forced them to tour the death camps and see for themselves what took place. I wrote about this here: http://billmuehlenberg.com/2014/08/25/make-them-watch/

In the light of all these recent revelations about PP, John Zmirak reminds us that things are no different here:

Planned Parenthood cannot rest at using taxpayer money to target the poor, the black, the disadvantaged unborn in America and simply leave it at that. Whatever spirits are guiding it, they goad it to go even further, and profit from the tiny dismembered bodies of its victims by taking them for parts. The sheer horror of the act makes us unwilling to face it, as Allied generals refused at first to believe what they saw when they liberated Nazi camps. But how else to explain those piles of carefully counted gold teeth, those shoes all neatly piled, lest anything go to waste?
My father served under General Patton in 1945, and he remembered how Patton reacted: He rounded up all the law-abiding, deferential German citizens of the nearest town, and forced them to walk through the camps, to see up close and personal what their Fuhrer had accomplished.
The Center for Medical Progress is emulating Patton, marching the flinching media through the medical waste bins and organ markets of America’s abortion industry. And Americans are following, tentatively, hoping that some rational explanation will be offered, so they don’t have to face the truth.

It certainly is time to face the truth. Jerry Newcombe rightly offers “7 questions for abortion supporters in light of the planned parenthood scandal”. Here are some of them:

2) Do the mothers undergoing the abortion know what is happening to the remains of their dead babies? In fact, how can one retain the maternal instinct and participate in the deliberate destruction of the unborn in the first place? As Mother Teresa once asked, “If we accept that a mother can kill even her own child, how can we tell others not to kill one another?”
4) If you say it’s okay to go ahead and sell human parts of the unborn babies for profit, where does society draw the line? Who’s to say an assisted-care facility should not sell parts from deceased patients for profit? Perhaps they could even speed up death in the interest of making money. There is no limit to the evil that could be done if this is acceptable.
5) If these aren’t little unborn babies being killed in the Planned Parenthood clinics, then how come someone at the clinic after each abortion has to reassemble all the parts of the aborted baby to make sure nothing is left in the womb, which could cause an infection?

There are good questions that deserve some solid answers. Finally, American pastor Douglas Wilson offers an ethical rationale for these undercover sting operations:

So what do I think of this operation? I think it is the best thing to happen to the pro-life cause since Roe introduced this bloody debacle into our national life. And I don’t just think this because God draws straight with crooked lines. In this case, He was drawing straight with straight lines. I believe that the next president should award the person who organized this operation with the Medal of Freedom. And prior to that, I believe pro-life activists should make a point of talking about this in superlatives. We should apply every accolade we can find.
So what about the deception involved then? I am glad you asked.
The Christian world has a long and checkered history when it comes to our debates about the ethics of deception. There are hardliners who want to say “no deception” ever. There are others who would regard lying to hide Jews from Nazis as a sin, but as a lesser sin than turning them over would be. So they lie in order to keep a clean conscience, and then confess the lie afterwards as a sin, in order to restore a clean conscience. Then there are others, like myself, who believe that Scripture fully allows (indeed requires) deception under certain conditions, while flatly forbidding it in others. If we want to tell the two situations apart, then we have to do some Bible study.
The view that Christians may never deceive in any situation whatever is exegetically and theologically indefensible, and rapidly devolves into silliness. Can a tank commander paint his tank to look like a bush when it is in fact not a bush? Is it all right, in a game of pick-up basketball, to fake left and drive right? When Jericho Homeland Security asked Rahab which way the spies went, no one thinks she should have said, “Thank you for this opportunity to come clean. They are up on the roof hiding under the flax.” And Rahab the harlot, brought up in a pietistic home, was justified by her scruples.
So back to the video sting. In my view, this situation is comparable to a combination of two different kinds of lawful biblical deception. The first has to do with the response of the Hebrew midwives to Pharaoh’s requirement of infanticide. In defense of innocent human life, they lied through their teeth, and God rewarded them by giving them families of their own….
Another scriptural category that I find helpful here is the category of deceiving someone in order to be able to confront them with the truth. The point is not to deceive, and then to sneak off to enjoy the fruit of the deception. The point is to deceive, and then to unveil the deception in such a dramatic way as to unmask unrighteousness that is being confronted. The point of such deception is to subsequently tell everyone what you had done. The point is to reveal, not to hide. The hiding is merely a preamble to a great unveiling of the truth — in this case, the truth that Planned Parenthood has far surpassed Mengele in cold-blooded, reptilian ghoulishness. This method is what the prophet Nathan did when he confronted David about Bathsheba….

Those involved in this exposure of PP say they have many more videos they will be releasing. This is terrific news and this is a group that deserves our highest praise. When Wilberforce and Co were seeking to expose the sordid details of the slave trade to their fellow Englishmen, they used every means possible to bring it to light.

They knew they had to show these ignorant folks just what was taking place in the slave industry. That in large measure is how they eventually won. It will be the same here. Most Americans and Westerners have no idea what is really happening in the abortion mills.

Well, it is high time they learned, and groups like CMP are doing a terrific job of removing the blinders from the eyes of so many folks.

07/29/15 He Was Wounded

 READING: Isaiah 49-53
TEXTS AND APPLICATION: Sometimes the Word of God just stops you in your tracks. You read it, and all you can do is meditate. You can’t comment because the Word is too profound; anything you say will be weak. You can’t choose a verse or two, because every verse matters in its context. Any devotion you write will be nothing compared to simply letting the Word of God speak.
Today’s reading includes the Suffering Servant songs of the book of Isaiah. Recognized by New Testament writers as ultimately referring to Jesus, these passages are gripping and amazing in their description of the One who suffered in our place. Here’s a place where the best we can do is the let the Word of God speak.
Read it. Read it slowly. Pause at every image of what Jesus did on our behalf. See the picture, no matter how gruesome it may be. Slow down, and read the words again. Highlight the texts that describe His sacrifice. Let the words be more than words you have heard before.
Weep. Be amazed. Be grateful.
Isa. 53:1-12 Who has believed what we have heard?
And who has the arm of the Lord been revealed to?
He grew up before Him like a young plant and like a root out of dry ground.
He didn’t have an impressive form or majesty that we should look at Him,
no appearance that we should desire Him.
He was despised and rejected by men, a man of suffering who knew what sickness was.
He was like someone people turned away from;
He was despised, and we didn’t value Him.
Yet He Himself bore our sicknesses, and He carried our pains;
but we in turn regarded Him stricken, struck down by God, and afflicted.
But He was pierced because of our transgressions,
crushed because of our iniquities;
punishment for our peace was on Him,
and we are healed by His wounds.
We all went astray like sheep; we all have turned to our own way;
and the Lord has punished Him for the iniquity of us all.
He was oppressed and afflicted, yet He did not open His mouth.
Like a lamb led to the slaughter and like a sheep silent before her shearers,
He did not open His mouth.
He was taken away because of oppression and judgment;
and who considered His fate?
For He was cut off from the land of the living;
He was struck because of my people’s rebellion.
They made His grave with the wicked and with a rich man at His death, although He had done no violence and had not spoken deceitfully.
Yet the Lord was pleased to crush Him severely.
When You make Him a restitution offering, He will see His seed,
He will prolong His days, and by His hand, the Lord’s pleasure will be accomplished.
He will see it out of His anguish, and He will be satisfied with His knowledge.
My righteous Servant will justify many, and He will carry their iniquities.
Therefore I will give Him the many as a portion,
and He will receive the mighty as spoil,
because He submitted Himself to death,
and was counted among the rebels;
yet He bore the sin of many and interceded for the rebels.
PRAYER: All we can do in response to this text is worship God and thank Him. Do both today.

Forgiveness of Sins is Not Enough

When we think about forgiveness, we usually think about three areas for which we need forgiveness: our thoughts, our words, and our actions. And each of these three areas can be viewed in terms of sins of commission and sins of omission, what we have done and what we have not done, and so on.

But even if God forgave us for all these sins, it’s not enough forgiveness to save us. We need forgiveness not just for what we have or have not done, but for what we are. We need forgiveness not just for our thinking/saying/doing but for our being. Even if I managed never to sin in thought, word, or deed, by omission or by commission, I would still need forgiveness for what I am.

To illustrate, imagine your sinful nature like a witch’s cauldron; a seething, swirling pot of disgusting, poisonous, and noxious mixture. When it heats up, it boils over now and again, and the contents of the cauldron spew out, spill onto the floor, and splatter anyone nearby. That’s what happens when we sin, our sinful nature boils over, and sin breaks out, injuring us and anyone else in the vicinity.

But what about when the cauldron is not boiling over, when sin is not being seen, felt, or smelled by us or others. The cauldron is still there; it’s still there before God; and it’s still offending Him and provoking Him to anger.

One of the things that happens in Christian conversion, is that we come to realize that our biggest problem is not our sins but our sinfulness, not the frequent or infrequent spillovers but the constant presence of a swirling, seething sinful nature in our hearts that revolts and offends a holy God. That’s what the Apostle Paul describes in Romans 7v7-14.

In Defense of the Historical Adam

Answers In Genesis tackles the Adam and Eve dispute — were they a myth, did they evolve from apes, was Adam the first man God made? Does it really matter?
Adam & Eve in the garden of Eden
By Terry Mortenson

The cover story in Christianity Today in June 2011 was “The Search for the Historical Adam.” The subtitle read, “Some scholars believe genome science casts doubt on the existence of the first man and woman. Others say the integrity of the faith requires it.” The number of professing evangelical scholars doubting or denying a literal Adam and Eve has continued to grow.

Some say the account of Adam and Eve is a myth, a symbolic story to teach us theological and moral truth. Others say that Adam and Eve were the first two humans but that they evolved from ape-like creatures and became human when God breathed into them. Others say they really existed but that Adam was merely the head of a clan or tribe: Adam and Eve weren’t the only humans at that time but were chosen by God for His purposes. Still others take Genesis 1–3 as literal history: the first man Adam was made from dust and the first woman Eve was made from his rib.

So what is the truth and does it really matter anyway, as long as you believe in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior? Good question. Let’s see what God’s inerrant Word says.

Are Christian High School Students Really Ready for College?

by Tricia Scribner

We have sent this year’s graduating seniors off to college hoping that we as parents and teachers have prepared them for the challenges of college life. We gave them the best education we could, prodded them when they wanted to goof off instead of study, made college visits, wrote recommendations, and helped them write admissions essays. But have we prepared them for the most serious confrontations to their faith that they will face on the university campus?

College can be a dangerous place for the spiritual life of Christian students. What if your child is assigned a Hindu roommate who sets up a shrine to his or her god in the dorm room? Or, what about the increasingly common situation in which your student ends up rooming with someone who self-identifies as homosexual? Showing Christ’s love to persons with whom we disagree is not the only issue. The question is whether your student is prepared to navigate the intimacy of a dorm room setting with a roommate of the same sex who affirms same sex attraction.

Peers aren’t the only source of pressure. Many college professors believe that Christian students are naïve and misguided, and see it as their job to disabuse them of their backward, bigoted Christian notions. How will your student respond when an English professor insists that a sentence has no inherent meaning but rather the reader endows the text with meaning? Will your student be swayed by the philosophy professor who insists truth and morality are relative to culture, or by the New Testament professor who argues that the gospels are full of errors and their accounts about the life and words of Christ cannot be trusted?

Just so you don’t think I am exaggerating about the frontal attack Christian students face a mere twelve weeks after high school graduation, let me share what a former student told me happened the first week she entered college…

6 Common But Mistaken Claims

by Darrell Bock

I’ve been hearing a lot in the public square about trajectories. In these conversations God’s Word is used to argue that the church needs to change its view on same-sex marriage, even though Scripture seems uniformly against it. This comes not only from newspaper columnists, such as Steve Blow in the Dallas Morning News, but also from evangelical commentators who claim the direction of the Bible takes them there. I understand this desire to love well, taken from the great commandment (Matt. 22:39), and I also see that one can ask such questions not out of a desire to rebel, clear a new path, or conform to culture, but out of sincerity.

Sincere questions deserve sincere responses. This article is designed to engage those who say the real thrust of the Bible is to joyously enter our brave new world with open arms and hearts. I’ll discuss various claims arguing that Scripture either doesn’t clearly address our specific contemporary situation or that Scripture is open and inconsistent enough to allow room for a category previously rejected.

Claim 1: Jesus didn’t speak about same-sex marriage, so he’s at least neutral if not open to it. What Jesus doesn’t condemn, we shouldn’t condemn.

This is an argument from silence, but the silence doesn’t take place in a vacuum. Jesus addresses and defines marriage in Matthew 19:4–6 and Mark 10:6–9 using both Genesis 1:26–27 and Genesis 2:24 to parse it out. Here Jesus defines and affirms marriage as between a man and a woman, a reflection of the fact that God made us male and female to care for creation together. With this definition, same-sex marriage is excluded. Had Jesus wished to extend the right of marriage beyond this definition, here was his opportunity. But he didn’t take it.

Jesus never discussed same-sex marriage because the way he defined marriage already excluded it. He was not as silent on the topic as some claim…

Applications from By the Waters of Babylon: Worship in a Post-Christian Culture

Ultimately, this book is not meant to address very specific application; rather, I have sought to lay the biblical groundwork that will allow church leaders to make informed, practical decisions regarding the relationship between worship and culture as they seek to reach an increasingly pagan culture. However, I will draw several general conclusions and applications from the arguments I have presented.

Christians should resist equating culture with race.

As I have suggested, the idea most likely associated with culture today is “race,” and any attempt to critically evaluate a particular cultural expression is, therefore, judged as racism. Yet as this book has demonstrated, race and culture are not equal. A race describes a group of people with shared ancestral and genetic roots, while culture describes behavior. Such behavior may be passed down through the traditions of a given race, but there is nothing inherently ethnic about any cultural expression. If Christian discussion regarding culture is going to move forward, especially as it relates to worship and evangelism, this misplaced connection must be rectified.

Churches should not start with the surrounding culture when choosing worship forms; they should start with Scripture.

So much of the missional contextualization posture finds its starting point in analyzing and appropriating whatever cultural expressions dominate the surrounding society. Yet this framework sets the culture as the authority in church practice. Instead, churches should begin with the authoritative Word of God, seeking to develop a unique and holy culture that flows from biblical values. A certain amount of translation may be necessary to communicate those values and behavior to people who do not share the same constructs, but even the translation must accurately reflect Scripture. In some cases, the target audience may be so foreign to a biblical system of values that nothing about their indigenous culture is usable; in those cases church leaders will find it necessary to explain to them the meaning of holy cultural forms and teach them to learn to appreciate those kinds of forms.

For this reason, church leaders, and indeed all Christians, must have a skilled knowledge of the cultural forms used in the Bible to express its truth. A certain amount of study of biblical literary forms, including how they shape their content, will help a church leader better discern which forms in his culture best communicate truth. Likewise, church leaders should study the kinds of sentiments and affections the Bible prescribes for worship and choose worship forms that accurately express those affections.

This will also require that church leaders know how to parse the meanings and values of the cultural expressions within their own culture to determine whether or not they are compatible with Christian sentiments. This may be one area where the missional church emphasis is helpful—churches must know how the people in their community think and the worldviews that influence their thinking as well as how this thinking and worldview is embodied in their cultural expressions. Christians do not necessarily need to immerse themselves in the culture of their community in order for this to take place—in fact, that might sometimes be dangerous for one’s spiritual well-being.

Corporate worship should make disciples.

Disciple-making is the church’s mission, and corporate worship must fit into this framework. Indeed, as I argued, making disciples and making worshipers are actually two aspects of the same mission. Thus, worship is not primarily about evangelism, nor is it an entirely vertical encounter. Corporate worship must contribute to the goal of making disciples so that they might worship God acceptably by leading people to draw near to communion with God through Christ by faith using appropriate cultural expressions.

This may be accomplished in public worship in at least three ways. First, corporate worship can proclaim the gospel in its very structure and content. Since corporate worship is the public acting out of the gospel—drawing near to God through Christ by faith—a liturgy structured to reflect that progression will both strengthen the believer and proclaim gospel truth to the unbeliever. Appropriating a structure such as that suggested in Chapell’s Christ-Centered Worship ensures that true worship takes place and that unbelievers are always confronted with the gospel message when they attend a service. Likewise, the content of particular elements within the service, because they are chosen to fit specific moments in the gospel progression, also help to proclaim the gospel to believers and unbelievers alike.

Second, if worship is to make disciples it must contain rich, doctrinal content. Corporate worship is not simply about “authentic,” “natural” expression of praise to God—it is about shaping people into disciple-worshipers. This means that teaching and preaching must be central in worship services, and the textual content of music must contribute to shaping people, both intellectually and spiritually, into worshipers for the glory of God.

Third, the aesthetic forms used to express that truth in corporate worship must be compatible with the content, for it, too, shapes the worshiper. Since form and content are not so easily divorced, and since the Bible’s authority extends not just from its propositional truth but also from how that truth is expressed, there are limits as to what kinds of cultural forms are appropriate for use in corporate worship. Only those forms that shape their content in ways similar to the forms of Scripture may be used.

Churches should rely on the Judeo-Christian worship tradition.

If churches are intent upon preserving and communicating the truth handed down from Scripture, both the truth’s doctrinal content and the way it is imagined, they would be wise to continue preserving and cultivating what might be called the Judeo-Christian tradition. Churches have at their fingertips a rich heritage of cultural forms that have grown within the biblical value systems of Judaism and the historic Christian Church—forms that were cultivated with the goal of expressing transcendent biblical values. Although the church/state alliance of the Christendom period was ill-advised for many reasons and caused serious theological and ecclesiastical problems, by the providence of God it did create a tradition that perpetuated and cultivated worship forms of the same character as the biblical forms. The forms through the early nineteenth century were text-driven, modest, and distinguishable from the pagan culture; those with Bible-informed imaginations nurtured them in order to communicate that imagination to others.[1]

This cultivation of the Judeo-Christian worship tradition continued until Revivalists in the early nineteenth century rejected the tradition in favor of the novelty and “excitement” of pop culture—they were among the first in church history to allow outside culture to shape the culture of worship. William McLoughlin observes that “[Charles G.] Finney’s revivalism broke the dam maintained by ‘The Tradition of the Elders’ (the title of one of his most pungent sermons) and transformed ‘the new system’ from a minority to a majority religion.”[2] From that point on, most of the evangelical movement has failed to cultivate this tradition but has instead favored more novel and “stimulating” cultural forms nurtured by secular culture. The Church is now ruled by what Loren Mead called the “Tyranny of the New”—a complete rejection of the Judeo-Christian tradition. Mead explains the problem with this rejection: “When the new way is considered the only way, there is no continuity, fads become the new Gospel and in Paul’s words, the church is ‘blown to and fro by every wind of doctrine.’”[3] Quentin Faulkner devastatingly summarizes the effect of this rejection of tradition upon the worship of the Christian Church:

Music (for that matter, all the arts) had become a theological orphan. In fact, no important theological movement, either in the nineteenth or twentieth century, has concerned itself in any profound way with the significance of harmony, order, or beauty in Christian life or [worship].[4]

Tradition is neither infallible nor authoritative in itself, but failure to preserve and accurately communicate God’s truth, in both its doctrinal and aesthetic faithfulness to the revelation of God’s Word, is due in large part to a failure to cultivate the Judeo-Christian worship tradition. In evangelicalism’s desire to preserve and communicate the truth, churches must realize that they cannot start from nothing; since fully orbed truth is preserved and communicated in large part through worship forms, churches must be committed to preserving and nurturing those forms that have been cultivated within the Judeo-Christian tradition.

Churches should actively pass on their worship culture to their children.

Since acceptable worship is something to be learned, churches should commit to teaching worship to their children at early ages. Unfortunately, most Christians do not recognize that before a child can even comprehend facts, his affections and imagination are already being shaped. In fact, most Christians never really even consider the moral imaginations of their children. They may be targeting their hearts, and by teaching them biblical doctrine their hearts are certainly influenced. But many churches fail to realize that a child’s imagination is shaped long before he or she has the capacity to comprehend doctrinal facts. In other words, long before a child can comprehend his need to love the one true and living God, before he or she can comprehend the concept of a god at all, the child learns how to love. Long before a child can comprehend his need to fear and reverence God, the child learns how to fear and reverence. Long before a child can comprehend his purpose to worship God, the child learns how to worship.

What happens with most churches, though, that see only the need to teach their children’s minds, is that in order to teach such truths, they are willing to use almost whatever means necessary to do so. So they use puppets to teach Bible stories, never realizing that their children’s imaginations are being shaped to view biblical truth as something light and trivial. They use cartoons to teach moral lessons, never realizing that their children’s imaginations are being shaped to view morality as something silly or “adventurous.” This problem occurs acutely in children’s music. Christian parents, educators, and publishers have the noble goal of teaching their children about God, his Word, and how to obey him rightly, but they set such truth to irreverent, trivial music, forgetting that long before their children learn those doctrines, they must learn how to imagine those truths rightly.

Children learn to worship God primarily through participating in rightly ordered worship. Children learn to love God by first learning how to love. Children learn to reverence God by first learning how to reverence. Children learn to fear God by first learning how to fear. If evangelicalism fails to preserve and accurately communicate the truth, both in its factual and aesthetic correspondence to God’s reality, it will be due in large part to its failure to shape their children’s imaginations in their desire to teach them the truth.

Churches should actively cultivate evangelistic outreach outside the walls of the church building.

While I have argued that the primary purpose of corporate worship is not evangelism, evangelism is the first step in accomplishing the church’s mission of making disciples. And while even public worship can aid in that evangelism through its structure and content, making disciples of all nations will require that individual Christians fervently proclaim the gospel outside the normal meetings of the church.

Unfortunately, for a number of reasons, some of which are helpfully identified by the missional church movement, many Christians today view evangelism as little more than inviting unbelieving friends to a church service. For this reason, church leaders must actively encourage the people in their congregations to change this mindset and strategically plan ways to reach people with the gospel at other times. The missional church movement may be right that churches today are ineffective in evangelism. The answer is not to reduce corporate worship to weekly evangelistic events. The answer is to encourage regular, relational evangelism in the community.

Churches should consider themselves strangers and aliens in the world.

Ultimately, the church’s relationship to the surrounding culture is very similar to Israel in exile or the early church in its Greco-Roman environment. The missional church is correct that Christendom lulled the church into complacency. But the missional church falls prey to its own critique when it does not recognize the nature of post-Christendom as essentially hostile to Christianity. Churches today should relate to their surrounding situation in ways similar to the Hebrews in exile or the early church. They should be initially suspicious of any of the world’s culture since in most cases the safe assumption is that the culture is an expression of unbiblical values. However, with that as the initial posture, Christians can be free to appropriate whatever culture happens to be, by God’s common grace, an expression of a biblical worldview.

How the Gospel Creates Ethics

Owen Strachan:

You love the gospel. Great! But a question beckons, one that must be answered: what, exactly, does the gospel now do in your life?

The message of Christ crucified for us is no minimalistic phenomenon. You cannot box it up. You cannot rein it in. If you believe it, it will conquer and consume you. Plant it in fertile soil, and you will reap a harvest of spiritual transformation and ethical conviction. You are saved for intimate fellowship with Christ; you are saved to boldly—publicly—testify to his glory.

But how does this work? How can ordinary Christians be public witnesses for Jesus?

I want to offer an answer by tracing how one Christian leader, a born-again ex-con named Chuck Colson, arrived at his own response to this vexing question.

4 Things It’s Okay to Say When You’re Hurt

Paul Maxwell:

Reconciliation is difficult because people dole out advice like lollipops at the bank—our pride is on the line, our safety is on the line. It’s also difficult because the gospel which teaches us we’re forgiven and reconciled to God sometimes feels empowering, and at other times like a looming and difficult example. But it’s important to remember as you reconcile, that while the gospel does empower you to perform some amazing relational feats, you are not God. These are all very human things to say—not sinful; just finite.

No Platform High Enough

Tim Challies:

When it is platform you crave, when it is the size or the popularity of your following that you use as the measure of your success, you will inevitably and eventually find that there is no platform high enough. No success will ever perfectly fulfill your ambitions.

A Right to Privacy Requires a Right to Life

Aaron Earls:

This begs the question, how does this “tissue” have a right to privacy, but not a right to life? Wouldn’t a right to privacy require a right to life?

If you consider life in the womb to be merely expendable tissue, what does it matter if someone shows it? Is your privacy violated if someone took a photograph of your blood in a vial (or “pie plate” as in the video)?

The Time I Said I Don’t Always Like Women’s Ministry Events

Christine Hoover:

She says no. She says it with absolute, total conviction, a “no” that feels like it’s answering all future invitations, a “no” that indicates it’s not busyness keeping her away, a “no” begging for explanation. So I gently probe. She describes past experiences of women’s events characterized by shallow conversation, girly crafts, and topics never veering far from marriage and motherhood. I tell her what we’re studying (not marriage or motherhood) and guarantee there will be no girly crafts and lots of opportunities to make connections with other women. She thanks me for the invitation, reaffirms her “no”, and moves off into the crowd.

As she goes, I am sad, not for me, but for her and for the “us” that is our church’s women, because we’re not going to know her until she lets us know her, and we’re probably missing something wonderful.

What is The Gospel?

The Privilege and Responsibility of Following Christ

The Reformed Reader

Who Am I?: Identity in Christ Being loved, chosen, called, changed, and kept by Christ is a privilege that comes with a responsibility.  Jerry Bridges puts it well:

Privilege: Our positions of being justified, adopted, and a new creation in Christ are ours, but they are basically privileges.  God has done it all through Christ.  We who used to be in Adam – with our guilt and bondage to sin – have died, having been crucified with Christ.  We are now alive unto God through his Spirit who dwells within us.  We do not have to sin.  We can say No to temptations from our flesh, the world, or the devil.

Responsibility: Our right and proper response is to believe these truths about ourselves, rejoice in them, and live in the reality of them.  We must not let sin reign in our bodies (Rom. 6:12).  When we do allow sin to get the upper hand…

Hillsong’s Darlene Zschech Condemns Christians and aligns herself to Roman Catholicism

It is important for Christians to grasp just how dangerous Darlene Zschech has become in light of her allegiance to Rome and her condemnation of Christians who have spoken out against her worship for the pope.

The Cripplegate: Only Two Religions!

I don’t know if you know this but there are only two religions in the entire world.

You might say I’m nuts.  There are hundreds if not thousands!

wearing masksBut there is one religion that likes to put on hundreds if not thousands of different masks on, and so ultimately there are only two: the religion of Human Achievement and the religion of Divine Accomplishment.

You see Islam, Mormonism, Buddhism, Catholicism, Judaism and every single religion that you have ever heard of, ultimately teaches some form of a works-based salvation. They say that you have to be a little more good than bad in order to make it to heaven. These religions encourage you to hand God a resume when you face Him one day. The resume will be filled with all your accomplishments. It will list everything you’ve done for other people, every penny you’ve given to charity and every good deed you’ve done. God will look over this resume and say, “Good job! You’ve made it into heaven”.

The problem is that if you were to enter into heaven because of a resume based on your accomplishments God would get no glory; you would be the one who gets all the praise. In fact, Ephesians 2:9 would say that salvation is not of works lest you patting-self-on-back-1should boast! Genesis chapter one shows us that God created the entire universe including you. Everything He created is designed to bring Him glory. The problem is that sin has entered the world, and from birth we all have replaced exalting God with exalting ourselves. Everything we do from birth is geared towards bringing us glory and bringing praise to ourselves. We all have a throne in our hearts that God should be sitting and reigning on, but instead we are born with ourselves sitting on it. We are so used to it we don’t even notice it to the point where we all think that our resumes are good enough to get us into heaven.

my mom thinks im coolOf course we are going to think that we are good people! Of course my mom is going to tell me I’m a good person! But what does your Creator think? He says in Romans 3:23 that we all have sinned and fall short of His glory. He also says in Romans 6:23 that the wages of sin is death. So if we stand before God and start listing accomplishments or hand Him a resume we might as well slap Jesus in the face because God is going to look at the resume and say, “I killed my only Son because you were not good enough to get to me!”

And that’s where the only other religion comes in.

The religion of Divine Accomplishment. God saw your situation, and decided that since man was so sinful and could not save himself, that He would come Himself and take the form of a man. He humbled himself, spent nine months in a womb he created, grew up with every temptation you and I face every day, but without sinning. He then died on the cross for our sins, and then rose from the dead and defeated death. He made it possible for human beings to stand before God one day and not hand Him a resume and condemn themselves further, but rather, tell God that they deserve His wrath but have placed their faith and trust in the work that Jesus did on their behalf on the cross and through His resurrection.

You see we need someone to be a substitute for us because no matter how hard we try, we can never bridge the gap between God and us. And the substitute can’t be merely a human.  It must be God Himself.

Do you see the difference between Christianity and every other religion?

GTY Blog: Guarding Sexual Purity

1 Corinthians 6:9-19; 1 Corinthians 7:1-16; Ephesians 5:3-6; Ephesians 5:22-33; 1 Thessalonians 4:3-4; Hebrews 13:4; 1 Peter 3:1-7

Code: B150729

by John MacArthur

Today’s culture is obsessed with sex more than ever. It wasn’t long ago that the sexualizing of society manifested itself largely through imagery and innuendo. But today you’d be hard pressed to find an aspect of public life that isn’t overrun by sexual talk and topics. There’s no discretion any more when it comes to sex—every new perversion and deviance has to be publicly celebrated, promoted, and explored.

Consequence of Sexual Perversion

The obvious, disheartening results of that trend are alarming rates of illegitimate pregnancies and births (and as a result the steady reliance on abortion to eliminate these “problems”), rapes and child molestation, and pervasive sexually transmitted diseases.

I believe God’s judgment is already on our society because of such wicked attitudes and practices. Consider the number of divorces, cases of domestic violence, dysfunctional families, and murders and other violent crimes when sensual urges go uncontrolled. People cannot continue to violate God’s standards of morality and integrity without eventually suffering terrible consequences.

When believers—or even professing believers—are immoral, the immediate consequences are especially bad because of the reproach it brings on Christ, His gospel, and His people. It is impossible for anyone to remain oblivious to the relentless media exposure of evangelical scandals and Roman Catholic pedophiles.

Condemnation of Sexual Perversion

Men and women engage in all sorts of illicit sex and perverse behavior before an affirming world. But the standard of God’s Word is clear: Sexual impurity is always a sin and will always be judged. The apostle Paul warned the Ephesian Christians:

Do not let immorality or any impurity or greed even be named among you, as is proper among saints. . . . For this you know with certainty, that no immoral or impure person or covetous man, who is an idolater, has an inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God. Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. (Ephesians 5:3, 5–6)

In 1 Corinthians 6:18 Paul tells all believers to “flee immorality. Every other sin that a man commits is outside the body, but the immoral man sins against his own body.”

The same basic Greek term is used for “immorality” in both of those passages. The writer of Hebrews uses the same root word (pornos, from which we get the word pornography) for “fornicators” as he admonishes, “Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the marriage bed be undefiled; for fornicators and adulterers God will judge” (Hebrews 13:4). The same sexual sin is condemned (implicitly or explicitly) in all three passages.

Consecration of Sexual Purity

God has provided the means for us to avoid such sexual sin through the institution of marriage. Paul says, “Because of immoralities, let each man have his own wife, and let each woman have her own husband” (1 Corinthians 7:2).

However, the Lord did not establish marriage as a mere preventative against immorality. He views marriage as honorable (Hebrews 13:4) and a glorious symbol of Christ’s love for His church (Ephesians 5:22–33). And He desires that we would esteem it just as highly. We can do that in several ways. First, we honor marriage when the husband fulfills his duties as the head: “Christ is the head of every man, and the man is the head of a woman” (1 Corinthians 11:3). Second, we honor marriage when wives submit to their husbands, as Sarah did to Abraham (1 Peter 3:1, 6). Third, we honor marriage when we make sure it is regulated by mutual love and respect, as the apostle Peter instructs us:

You husbands likewise, live with your wives in an understanding way, as with a weaker vessel, since she is a woman; and grant her honor as a fellow-heir of the grace of life, so that your prayers may not be hindered (1 Peter 3:7).

With the utmost sense of graciousness, love, and integrity, both husband and wife should have a selfless concern for the welfare of the other. Both should be focusing on what they can give rather than on what they can obtain.

God is serious about sexual purity. Sex is wonderful and fulfilling within marriage, but harmful and destructive outside of those confines:

For this is the will of God, your sanctification; that is, that you abstain from sexual immorality; that each of you know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor (1 Thessalonians 4:3–4).

Sexual purity is an essential part of our personal integrity. And as we will see next time, that integrity hinges on our ability to live our lives with godly contentment.

How did Christians lose their position in the academy?

thereformedmind

From Mathew Tuninga:

Rosaria Butterfield was a professor of women’s studies who specialized in Queer Theory at Syracuse University. A practicing lesbian, she was an activist in the gay and lesbian community until she converted to Christianity in 1999. She is now a Reformed Presbyterian.

Given such a story, you might expect Butterfield to have an interesting perspective on the relationship between Christians and the academy. And you will not be disappointed. Only seven pages into her book, The Secret Thoughts of an Unlikely Convert, Butterfield declares that she maintains her appreciation for the university and her respect for feminism:

Although I live my life now for Christ and Christ alone, I do not find myself in like-minded company when my fellow Christians bemoan the state of the university today. Feminism has a better reputation than Christianity at all major U.S. universities and this fact really bothers (and…

Obama’s Betrayal of the Kurds is His Most Despicable Act to Date

Zwinglius Redivivus

Stabs in the back don’t get much nastier than this. For the past year, Western leaders have feted the Kurds of Northern Iraq, praising them as one of the few forces gutsy enough to face down the death cult of Isil.

Now, those leaders turn a blind eye, or even worse give an active nod, to attacks on Northern Iraqi Kurds by the Turkish air force. Heroes one minute; fair game for massacre the next. In the long list of Western betrayals of former allies overseas, this one feels especially grotesque.

Last Friday, following months of negotiation with Washington, Turkey launched its first-ever air strikes against Isil in Syria.  A few hours later it started dropping bombs in Northern Iraq — not on Isil, but on the PKK, the Kurdistan Workers’ Party, with which Turkey has been locked in bitter conflict since 1984.

Can any of us be surprised…

Third video of Planned Parenthood doctors discussing organ harvesting

Here’s the third video released by The Center for Medical Progress:

And here’s the story from Anika Smith, writing at The Stream.

Excerpt:

The latest video exposing Planned Parenthood isn’t just an undercover lunch conversation; it’s a first-person interview with a clinic worker who knows exactly what she’s doing as she explains Planned Parenthood’s sale of aborted fetal body parts.

[…]It opens with Holly O’Donnell, a licensed phlebotomist who took a job as a “procurement technician” with the now-infamous fetal tissue company and biotech start-up StemExpress in late 2012. (As their website says, start with the source.)

O’Donnell explains what her job was:

“We’re asked to procure certain tissues like brain, liver, thymus, pancreas, heart, lungs, skin, pretty much anything on the fetus. It’s basically the trafficking of fetal tissues.”

And why was this happening? Well, for the…

Reading:1 Peter 4:10-11

It’s impossible to read Peter’s doctrinal and dynamic epistle and not be struck by the fact that he sought to encourage, comfort, and minister to believers who were going through a time of incredible suffering! This letter was written in and around that period in history when Christians were particularly hated.

During the reign of the Emperor Nero, things became almost intolerable for the followers of Christ. Nero has been described as a “monster of wickedness and one of the vilest men ever to occupy a throne.” He is probably best remembered as the man “who fiddled while Rome burned.” But there is much more to his callousness than that. That great fire that almost destroyed Rome broke out in 64 AD and Nero was immediately suspected of causing it. But when anger started to mount against him and people started to lay the blame at…

Possessing the Treasure

by Mike Ratliff

1 Now before the Feast of the Passover, when Jesus knew that His hour had come that He should depart from this world to the Father, having loved His own who were in the world, He loved them to the end.
2 And supper being ended, the devil having already put it into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, to betray Him, 3 Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into His hands, and that He had come from God and was going to God, 4 rose from supper and laid aside His garments, took a towel and girded Himself. 5 After that, He poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet, and to wipe them with the towel with which He was girded. 6 Then He came to Simon Peter. And Peter said to Him, “Lord, are You washing…
