Senator Ted Cruz, known more for clashing with Republican leaders and assailing Obama administration initiatives than getting bills passed, can chalk one up in the latter category. A measure that would authorize NASA to extend the operation of the International Space Station through at least 2024 this week became the first measure sponsored by the Republican White House hopeful to win the Senate’s approval in the current session of Congress.

Models of both genders-waifish male models and boyish female models alike-were wearing silhouettes, fabrications, and items of clothing that traditionally appear in womenswear collections.

“The foundations of our national policy will be laid in the pure and immutable principles of private morality, and the preeminence of free government be exemplified by all the attributes which can win the affections of its citizens, and command the respect of the world.” —George Washington, First Inaugural Address, 1789

Lt. Cmdr. Tim White, the U.S. Navy officer who returned fire at the jihadi in the attack in Chattanooga, will not face charges, the Navy said Wednesday, contrary to some earlier reports. Military bases were on high alert at the time of the attack, and it’s possible White was viewed as taking his own initiative as the commanding officer. Such officers have more discretionary ability than their personnel do. As Mark Alexander noted, while the Navy will not be bringing charges against White, this does not preclude some other disciplinary action against him, and we will keep you posted. The ban on firearms at military installations is foolish and absurd, and given that Lt. Cmdr. White’s actions were heroic and saved lives we certainly hope the JAG review will determine no grounds for disciplinary action.
In related news, the FBI has issued an alert regarding threats to U.S. military families in Colorado and Wyoming. Reports indicate intimidation and harassment by “Middle Eastern males” has been a problem in the first half of this year. But we have an administration (and complicit media) more concerned with political correctness than identifying and countering the radical Islamic threat. Threatened families in Colorado should contact the FBI Fort Collins Resident Agency at (970) 663-1028. In Wyoming, contact the FBI Cheyenne Resident Agency at (307) 632-6224.
And just like that, the Obama administration assumes the kind of power that controls whole segments of the U.S. economy. Again. The Clean Power Plan will more than decimate the coal industry, as an American Action Forum report finds that this regulation will close 66 power plants, destroy 125,800 jobs and slash the coal industry by 48% by 2030. You’d think Americans would want some kind of input through Congress on a government decree of that scope, but that’s the creep of regulation for you. Already, the coal industry has lost 47,500 jobs since the beginning of Obama’s term. “These troubling figures are also static, one-time snapshots at industry employment,” writes AAF Director of Regulatory Policy Sam Batkins. “They hardly capture the true economic costs to the region and the local community of losing so many jobs so quickly. The PricewaterhouseCoopers study implying that one energy job supports 3.7 additional jobs hints at the total economic damage, but remaking an entire industry in one administration is no small feat.” But, to Obama, those union jobs are just collateral damage on his way to appease the envirofascists.
Here’s an interesting contrast. On the one hand, we have a Marine officer who argues he was trying to warn of dire consequences and was subsequently punished for communicating classified material via an unclassified email network. On the other hand, Hillary Clinton — for no other reason than political expediency — appears to have routinely communicated similarly sensitive (and probably even more important) information via unclassified means and thinks she’s above reproach. Her lawyer’s recent claim that “nothing she sent was marked as classified” is about par for her defense. Of course it wasn’t marked as classified, since emails generated and circulated on unclassified networks — particularly personally operated ones — don’t even allow the option of choosing a classified label, unlike the classified networks that allow you to chose anything from “unclassified” up to the highest clearance for that network (usually “secret” with caveats). That said, while the comparison is instructive, we’re not particularly sympathetic to the Marine major. There’s probably more to the story and we don’t believe a panel of officers would arbitrarily seek to “retaliate” against him (as he alleges) because of his views. If they recommended discharge, he likely communicated more than just a warning of a potential threat. Just as Hillary almost certainly communicated more sensitive or classified information (not just documents) than she’ll ever admit.

FEATURED RIGHT ANALYSIS
By Dan Gilmore
In the 1980s, the federal government’s nuclear energy program created a problem. In places like the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant in New Mexico, the government disposed its nuclear waste underground. Like any dump, it would eventually be sealed up and abandoned. But unlike a candy wrapper or a broken toaster, nuclear waste leaks radiation for hundreds of thousands of years before it reaches half-life. In the meantime, the government would post signs warning people away.
But what would the warning signs mean to humans 10,000 years in the future? Language evolves. Symbols change meaning. What could they use to communicate the danger that lay beneath? The urgency to warn future generations created a field called “nuclear semiotics.”
Contrast that to the flippancy with which Barack Obama approaches the Iranian deal supposedly ensuring nonproliferation of nuclear weapons.
Obama visited American University Wednesday to lobby for the Iran nuclear deal before jetting off to a Martha’s Vineyard vacation. He was ostensibly aiming to give the handful of undecided lawmakers something to think about over their August recess, but he didn’t appear to be interested in persuading anyone.
“After two years of negotiations, we have achieved a detailed arrangement that permanently prohibits Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon,” Obama said. Except his Iran deal makes two assumptions irreconcilable with human nature: That Iran doesn’t want the bomb and that weak-kneed bureaucratic oversight is a sufficient deterrent.
Iran agreed to halt nuclear research, allow some inspections and dispose of some of its nuclear reserves for 15 years in exchange for the lifting the economic sanctions levied against it. Iran will receive about $150 billion in sanctions relief over the next 16 months, which the mullahs probably aren’t going to use on education or building bridges.
Obama was divisive. To him, you either favor his deal, or you want “some sort of war.” It’s “not just the best choice among alternatives,” he boasted, “this is the strongest non-proliferation agreement ever negotiated.” Thanks to him, a Nobel Peace Prize winner.
No, sanctions are the alternative, not war.
If the deal falls apart, he warned, then Iran will have no check on its development of nuclear weapons. If lawmakers approve the deal, he promised, then Iran will comply. The world will be safe, he assures. He also told us if we liked our health insurance plan we could keep it.
We certainly know what Obama thinks of the domestic dissenters to his plan. “Many of the same people who argued for the war in Iraq are now making the case against the Iran nuclear deal,” Obama said. It’s more of the politically hostile, take-no-prisoners approach we’ve come to expect from this executive. His administration will sweat it out for two years across the table from Iran, but when it comes to people that have taken the same oath of office, the knives come out.
For Obama, the debate over this deal comes down to the enlightened moderates and the extremists. “Just because Iranian hardliners chant ‘death to America’ does not mean that that’s what all Iranians believe,” he lectured. “In fact, it’s those hardliners who are most comfortable with the status quo. It’s those hardliners chanting ‘death to America’ who have been most opposed to the deal. They are making a common cause with the Republican caucus.”
Not only is this a frighteningly new rhetorical low for Obama, Charles Krauthammer explains, “what is even worse here is how delusional he is.” Obama “is pretending that those who chant death to America are some kind of KKK fringe in Iran,” Krauthammer elaborated. “The people leading the chant are the Revolutionary Guard, the army, the parliamentary leaders and of course … the supreme leader himself in a speech he made just a few days after the signing of the agreement.”
This is the best Obama the Great Orator can muster. This is the speech that is supposed to highlight his legacy and mastery of politics. Seven years from when an Illinois senator wowed audiences, he’s reduced to conniving pot shots. The peace prize winner is virtually promising war. But then again, he’s not aiming for Republican support, or even skeptical Democrats — all he needs is a third of the House and Senate to back his deal.
Obama admits his deal isn’t perfect. Israel hates it. As for the billions of dollars released after the lifting of sanctions, he concedes, “[L]et’s stipulate that some of that money will flow to activities that we object to.” That would be supporting the terrorists of Hezbollah and Syria’s Assad regime, and generally extending Iranian hegemony. But what’s funding a little terrorism when Obama’s legacy is at stake?
And, by the way, the people getting that $150 billion are the people chanting “death to America.”
While Obama was strong-arming for his deal, Michael Singh, managing director of The Washington Institute for Near East Policy, was testifying to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee about it. Nuclear weapons development needs three things, Singh said: The ability to create fuel, a program to develop the weapons and a way to deliver the bomb to ground zero. Obama’s deal allows Iran to continue to enrich uranium, and it does nothing to curb the nation’s ballistic missile program. Furthermore, programs to develop the bomb “tend to be secretive by their very nature.”
Obama leaves America and the rest of the world with scant assurance that Iran will not pursue the bomb. For nonproliferation to hold, Iran has to have no desire for the weapon and the international community must be extremely vigilant for any violations.
In fact, the U.S. intelligence community says Iran is already sanitizing its military site at Parchin, a facility suspected of nuclear activity. And the State Department apparently has no idea what’s going on.
Obama made much in his speech about the courage it takes to pursue peace. But this isn’t courage; it’s the gripes and lectures of a petulant narcissist in pursuit of a legacy.

OPINION IN BRIEF
Victor Davis Hanson: “There are lots of strange paradoxes in the current frenzied liberal dissection of past sins. One, a historic figure must be near perfect in all dimensions of his or her complex life to now pass progressive muster. That [Thomas] Jefferson is responsible for helping to establish many of the cherished human rights now enshrined in American life apparently cannot offset the transgression of having owned slaves. Two, today’s moral standards are always considered superior to those of the past. Ethical sense supposedly always improves with time. However, would American society of 1915 have allowed a federally supported agency such as Planned Parenthood to cut apart aborted fetuses to sell infant body parts? … The past is not simplistic ‘gotcha’ melodrama in which we convict figures of history by tabulating their sins on today’s moral scorecards. Instead, history is tragedy. It is complex. Moral assessments are dicey. With some humility, we must balance past and current ethical standards, as well as the elements of the good and the bad present in every life. And we must avoid cheap, politicized moralizing that often tells us more about the ethics and ignorance of today’s grand inquisitors than the targets of their inquisitions.”

Alpha Jackass: “I know it’s easy to play on people’s fears, to magnify threats, to compare any attempt at diplomacy to Munich. But none of these arguments hold up. They didn’t back in 2002 and 2003; they shouldn’t now. The same mindset, in many cases offered by the same people who seem to have no compunction with being repeatedly wrong, led to a war that did more to strengthen Iran, more to isolate the United States than anything we have done in the decades before or since.” —Barack Obama
Demo-gogues: “I recognize that Prime Minister Netanyahu disagrees — disagrees strongly. I do not doubt his sincerity. But I believe he is wrong. I believe the facts support this deal. I believe they are in America’s interest and Israel’s interest. And as President of the United States, it would be an abrogation of my constitutional duty to act against my best judgment simply because it causes temporary friction with a dear friend and ally.” —Barack Obama (This from the man who thought exchanging jihadi terrorists for deserter Bowe Bergdahl was good judgment.)
The BIG lie: “Let me just tell you this. We have talked to the experts. There is no way to hide your development of a nuclear bomb.” —Dick Durbin (He’s right. Once it explodes, the whole world knows it.)
Non Compos Mentis: “I don’t know [if Iran wants to wipe Israel off the map]. … They’ve signed on to an agreement where they say they’ll never try and make [a nuclear bomb] and we have a mechanism in place where we can prove that. So I don’t want to get locked into that debate. I think it’s a waste of time here.” —John Kerry
And last… “Hillary Clinton is having a bad week. Actually, we’ve discerned an emerging pattern: Every time a week has seven days, it turns out to be bad for Mrs. Clinton.” —James Taranto

Will we soon see World War 3 erupt in the Middle East? Even though Barack Obama has made a “peace deal” with Iran, leaders in the region sure are talking a lot about war. And of course this “deal” is on very shaky ground. The Israelis hate it, a significant portion of the U.S. Congress hates it, and the Iranians have already been accused of breaking the agreement. The odds of this “deal” holding up over the long term appear to be somewhere between slim and none. But even if this deal does survive, that does not mean that everything will be okay in the Middle East. In fact, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is convinced that Obama’s deal with Iran will actually “lead to war”… (Read More…)
The list of nations around the globe that have collapsing economies just continues to grow. In recent weeks I have written about the ongoing saga in Greece, the stock market crash in China, the debt crisis in Puerto Rico and the economic meltdown in South America. But there are more economic flashpoints that I have not even addressed yet. For example, did you know that a full-blown economic collapse is happening in Iraq right now? And did you know that the economy of Ukraine is contracting rapidly and that it cannot pay its debts? Back in 2008, the financial crisis was primarily centered on the United States, but this time around it is turning out to be a truly global phenomenon. (Read More….)

It was obvious the fight over President Barack Obama’s nuclear deal with Iran would get very ugly, very quickly. And so it has.
It was obvious that it would be ugly because the fight over Obama’s appeasement policy toward Iran has been going on since he took office six-and-a-half years ago. And it has always been ugly.
Did Obama really ignore such obvious facts?

THE OBAMA ADMINISTRATION HAS ISSUED MORE THAN 7.4 MILLION WORK PERMITS TO FOREIGN NATIONALS FROM 2009 – 2014, BEYOND THE APPROXIMATELY ONE MILLION LAWFUL PERMANENT RESIDENTS AND 700,000 FOREIGN GUEST WORKERS ADMITTED TO THE U.S. EACH YEAR.
In written responses to the Senate Judiciary Immigration and the National Interest Subcommittee Republicans obtained by Breitbart News, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services reveal that the Obama administration has been approving work authorizations for immigrants beyond admission limits and for some categories of immigrants that Congress never intended to work in the U.S.Beyond those limits each year, these new and renewed work permit approvals amounted to about 1.23 million in fiscal year 2009, 1.08 million in FY 2010, 970,277 in FY 2011, 1.24 million in FY 2012, 1.68 million in FY 2013 and 1.24 million in FY 2014. |Is Divorce an Unpardonable Sin in the Kingdom of God?
Posted: 06 Aug 2015 07:24 AM PDT
A few years ago, I was listening to a syndicated Christian radio program. A survivor of the holocaust was being interviewed. She described the horrific conditions of the concentration camps and then made a statement I’d never forget. She described the emotional pain and the brokenness she experienced from her divorce as greater than the pain of the concentration camp.
Six months later, another guest on the same program described the pain of losing her husband to cancer. She spoke about how his illness devastated their lives after ten long months of suffering. I was again moved to hear her say that she would have rather lost her husband to death by cancer than divorce. Unbelievable! Two different women who had gone through more pain than many of us will ever know said that divorce is, or would be, more painful than death. My mind searched for understanding … why was divorce more devastating than a concentration camp, or cancer? FULL REPORT

|Massive, ‘incredibly thick’ toxic algae bloom in Pacific now stretches from California to Alaska
Posted: 06 Aug 2015 05:47 AM PDT
A vast bloom of toxic algae off the West Coast is denser, more widespread and deeper than scientists feared even weeks ago, according to surveyors aboard a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration research vessel. This coastal ribbon of microscopic algae, up to 64 kilometres wide and 200 metres deep in places, is flourishing amid unusually warm Pacific Ocean temperatures. It now stretches from at least California to Alaska and has shut down lucrative fisheries. Shellfish managers on Tuesday doubled the area off Washington’s coast that is closed to Dungeness crab fishing, after finding elevated levels of marine toxins in tested crab meat.
So-called “red tides” are cyclical and have happened many times before, but ocean researchers say this one is much larger and persisting much longer, with higher levels of neurotoxins bringing severe consequences for the Pacific seafood industry, coastal tourism and marine ecosystems. Dan Ayres, coastal shellfish manager for the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, said the area now closed to crab fishing includes more than half the state’s 252-km-long coast, and likely will bring a premature end to this year’s coastal crab season. |Kerry ‘Doesn’t Know’ if Iran is Serious about Destroying Israel
Posted: 06 Aug 2015 05:42 AM PDT
US Secretary of State John Kerry has claimed the nuclear deal signed with Iran is “as pro-Israel as it gets,” and claims he “doesn’t know” if the Iranian leadership is serious about destroying the State of Israel. The comments were made in an in-depth interview with The Atlantic’s Jeffrey Goldberg, which was published Wednesday following intense lobbying for and against the deal as it heads to a fateful vote in Congress.
Kerry warned Goldberg that if Congress voted down the agreement it would “be the ultimate screwing” of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei. “The ayatollah constantly believed that we are untrustworthy, that you can’t negotiate with us, that we will screw them. This will be the ultimate screwing,” said Kerry. “He will not come back to negotiate. Out of dignity, out of a suspicion that you can’t trust America. America is not going to negotiate in good faith. It didn’t negotiate in good faith now, would be his point.”
Kerry also claimed such an eventuality would lead to “moderate” Iranian leaders like President Hassan Rouhani being in “big trouble” for failing to secure a deal. The Obama administration regularly refers to Rouhani as a “moderate,” despite the fact that under his watch support for regional terrorism has increased, and the number of executions of political prisoners has skyrocket to record levels. |Obama Says Israel Stands Alone against Iran Deal
Posted: 06 Aug 2015 05:32 AM PDT
US President Barack Obama delivered a live address to the American public Wednesday, urging them to support the recently-signed deal with Iran over its nuclear program – and to lobby their members of Congress to vote for it at an upcoming vote. Obama began and ended citing former President John F. Kennedy, noting his role in facing down the Soviet Union during the Cold War.
“Less than 20 years after the end of World War Two, the prospect of nuclear war was all too real. With all the threats we face today it’s hard to appreciate how dangerous the world was. “Strength, in his view, included powerful armed forces and a willingness to stand up for our values around the world, but he rejected the prevailing opinion among many security experts which claimed security relied on a constant war footing.” FULL REPORT

|Glenn Beck Unleashes on Planned Parenthood Supporters in Fiery Rant: ‘What Is the Difference Between Us and the German People?’

Glenn Beck on Wednesday compared Americans who turn a blind eye to Planned Parenthood to Germans who turned a blind eye to the atrocities of the Nazis during World War II. “May I ask what the difference is between us?” Beck demanded on his radio program. “What is the difference between the German people and those of us who are alive today here in America with the slaughterhouses that are Planned Parenthood?” Beck said most Germans rationalized their inaction during World War II by saying: “It’s just Jews and … it’s none of my business.” FULL REPORT

|“The Market is Uniquely Crash-Prone”: Experts Fear Financial Collapse Imminent

Will there be a financial collapse in the United States before the end of 2015? An increasing number of respected financial experts are now warning that we are right on the verge of another great economic crisis. Of course that doesn’t mean that it will happen. Experts have been wrong before. But without a doubt, red flags are popping up all over the place and things are lining up in textbook fashion for a new financial crisis.
As I write this article, U.S. stocks have declined four days in a row, the Dow is down more than 750 points from the peak of the market in May, and one out of every five U.S. stocks is already in a bear market. I fully expect the next several months to be extremely chaotic, and I am far from alone. The following are 8 financial experts that are warning that a great financial crisis is imminent…MORE

|FBI investigation of Hillary’s emails is ‘Criminal Probe’
Posted: 05 Aug 2015 07:06 PM PDT
The FBI investigation into former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton’s unsecured e-mail account is not just a fact-finding venture — it’s a criminal probe, sources told The Post on Wednesday. The feds are investigating to what extent Clinton relied on her home server and other private devices to send and store classified documents, according to a federal source with knowledge of the inquiry.
“It’s definitely a criminal probe,” said the source. “I’m not sure why they’re not calling it a criminal probe. “The DOJ [Department of Justice] and FBI can conduct civil investigations in very limited circumstances,” but that’s not what this is, the source stressed. “In this case, a security violation would lead to criminal charges. Maybe DOJ is trying to protect her campaign.” FULL REPORT

|US pledges to defend Israel if Iran attacks, Or will they?
Posted: 05 Aug 2015 03:48 PM PDT
The United States will defend Israel in the case of an Iranian attack against it, a senior American defense official said Monday, asserting Israel’s right to self-defense and the administration’s commitment to the Jewish state’s military superiority in the Middle East.
The administration respects Israel’s right to self-defense and will continue to ensure the Jewish state’s qualitative military edge, the official told Israeli reporters, arguing that the nuclear deal that the US and five world powers signed with the Islamic Republic last month will make an Israeli military attack less probable.“We have an ally relationship. The word ‘ally’ means something to us. It means that if you are attacked, we will defend you. That is what an ally relationship means… We use that term sparingly,” the senior defense official said. |Hamas warns of new violence unless Israel lifts blockade

The Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas warned Wednesday of renewed violence unless Israel lifts its blockade of Gaza, at a ceremony marking the end of a military-style summer camp for 25,000 Gazans. “Today, our message to the occupier is very clear: We will not accept a blockade,” said Mahmud Zahar, a senior leader of Hamas which rules the Gaza Strip and has been holding indirect contacts with Israel over a long-term truce in return for an end to the nine-year-old blockade.
Citizenship and Immigration Services reveal that the Obama administration has been approving work authorizations for immigrants beyond admission limits and for some categories of immigrants that Congress never intended to work in the U.S.
Green card holders and foreign nationals on guest worker visas do not need work authorizations.
Beyond those limits each year, these new and renewed work permit approvals amounted to about 1.23 million in fiscal year 2009, 1.08 million in FY 2010, 970,277 in FY 2011, 1.24 million in FY 2012, 1.68 million in FY 2013 and 1.24 million in FY 2014.
Such categories of immigrants that received permits include: Illegal immigrants granted Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, immigrants granted Temporary Protective Status (TPS), spouses of guest workers, various types of foreign students, immigrants granted voluntary departure, parolees, as well as asylees and refugees.
The data comes on the heels of a Center for Immigration Studies report, authored by expert Jessica Vaughan, which also revealed 7.4 million excess work permits issued in what she described as a “parallel immigrant work authorization system outside the numerical limits and categories set by Congress.”
Vaughan’s data obtained, via a Freedom of Information Act request, yielded different categories of immigrants. USCIS explained in its response that the new data is an update to the data provided in the FIOA.
Of the updated data, Vaughan explained to Breitbart News that the numbers show the Obama administration has been “abusing what should be considered very limited authority to issue work permits.”
When Vaughan’s report broke earlier this year, the chairman of the immigration subcommittee, Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL), called for an investigation.
“This massive increase in the labor supply has occurred simultaneously with a steep drop in family incomes and a sharp rise in the number of Americans pushed out of the workforce. All jobs gains since the recession have gone to foreign workers, while the slack labor market has depressed median family incomes almost $5,000 in that time,” he said at the time. source
Only Two Religions!
I don’t know if you know this but there are only two religions in the entire world.
You might say I’m nuts. There are hundreds if not thousands!
But there is one religion that likes to put on hundreds if not thousands of different masks on, and so ultimately there are only two: the religion of Human Achievement and the religion of Divine Accomplishment.
You see Islam, Mormonism, Buddhism, Catholicism, Judaism and every single religion that you have ever heard of, ultimately teaches some form of a works-based salvation. They say that you have to be a little more good than bad in order to make it to heaven. These religions encourage you to hand God a resume when you face Him one day. The resume will be filled with all your accomplishments. It will list everything you’ve done for other people, every penny you’ve given to charity and every good deed you’ve done. God will look over this resume and say, “Good job! You’ve made it into heaven”.
The problem is that if you were to enter into heaven because of a resume based on your accomplishments God would get no glory; you would be the one who gets all the praise. In fact, Ephesians 2:9 would say that salvation is not of works lest you should boast! Genesis chapter one shows us that God created the entire universe including you. Everything He created is designed to bring Him glory. The problem is that sin has entered the world, and from birth we all have replaced exalting God with exalting ourselves. Everything we do from birth is geared towards bringing us glory and bringing praise to ourselves. We all have a throne in our hearts that God should be sitting and reigning on, but instead we are born with ourselves sitting on it. We are so used to it we don’t even notice it to the point where we all think that our resumes are good enough to get us into heaven.
Of course we are going to think that we are good people! Of course my mom is going to tell me I’m a good person! But what does your Creator think? He says in Romans 3:23 that we all have sinned and fall short of His glory. He also says in Romans 6:23 that the wages of sin is death. So if we stand before God and start listing accomplishments or hand Him a resume we might as well slap Jesus in the face because God is going to look at the resume and say, “I killed my only Son because you were not good enough to get to me!”
And that’s where the only other religion comes in.
The religion of Divine Accomplishment. God saw your situation, and decided that since man was so sinful and could not save himself, that He would come Himself and take the form of a man. He humbled himself, spent nine months in a womb he created, grew up with every temptation you and I face every day, but without sinning. He then died on the cross for our sins, and then rose from the dead and defeated death. He made it possible for human beings to stand before God one day and not hand Him a resume and condemn themselves further, but rather, tell God that they deserve His wrath but have placed their faith and trust in the work that Jesus did on their behalf on the cross and through His resurrection.
You see we need someone to be a substitute for us because no matter how hard we try, we can never bridge the gap between God and us. And the substitute can’t be merely a human. It must be God Himself.
Do you see the difference between Christianity and every other religion?
The Greatest Story Ever Told
God’s goal in all of His creative and redemptive work is to bring glory to Himself (Isa 43:7; cf. Eph 1:6, 12, 14).

“My Last Day” — the Jesus Anime
9 powerful minutes of animation that begins with a thief behind bars watching the scourging of Jesus, and it ends with the thief dying next to Jesus, and waking to see Him in a beautiful place.
The dying thief: What was so great about his faith?
There are many acts of extraordinary faith in the Bible. The one that has impressed me the most concerns the dying thief on the cross. We could take the approach that he had nothing to lose, so he decided to cast his lot with Jesus. But this makes absolutely no sense of the text and the context.
In this conversion we have a specific fulfillment of Christ’s first words on the cross. No sooner had Christ spoken the words, “Father, forgive them,” had the Father answered that prayer by turning a once-reviling criminal into a Christ-glorifying saint. While the soon-to-be converted criminal was not directly responsible for Christ’s death, he nevertheless joined with those who were and was thus indirectly addressed when Christ asked for God to forgive “them.”
Christ, the sinless one, was numbered with or counted among the transgressors (Isa. 53:12; Luke 22:37), all of whom have a bigger problem than the day-to-day sins they commit. They hate Christ, the God-man. Anyone who has a master other than the Lord Jesus hates him (Lk. 16:13; Gal. 4:8). That these two criminals loathed him is clearly manifested during the crucifixion: “And the robbers who were crucified with him also reviled him in the same way” (Matt. 27:44).
When the criminal who was converted was doing his worst against Christ, Christ was doing his best for this criminal.
The conversion of the one criminal was most extraordinary and testifies to the power of Christ’s prayer and the grace of God. Why?
This criminal’s faith did not come at a time such as when Christ turned water into wine; or performed miracles, such as walking on water, opening the eyes of a blind man, or raising Lazarus from the dead. No! The criminal believed on the Messiah while he was hanging as one cursed upon a tree. The criminal trusted in and boldly defended the one whose disciples had abandoned him. Jesus was at his lowest when this criminal asked to be remembered in Christ’s kingdom.
When he was on the cross, did anyone publicly cry out, as John the Baptist did, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!” (Jn. 1:29)? But this is essentially what the dying thief did. Little wonder, then, that Christ should promise him a place in his kingdom: “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise” (Lk. 23:43).
The criminal acknowledged he was guilty; he acknowledged that Christ was not (“this man has done nothing wrong”); he feared God; but, and here is the key: the criminal did not merely want to be in a better place. He wanted to be with Christ in a better place: “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom” (Lk. 23:42). The criminal believed “against all hope”.
Heaven is a better place because that is where Christ is. Everyone wants to go to heaven, but not everyone wants to go to Christ’s heaven. Not so with this criminal: he saw, with his eyes, Christ at his worst; but with the eyes of faith, he believed that Christ would soon be at his best, and so put his faith in a dying king.
Christ is always – always! – willing to save even the most miserable of sinners. A recognition of guilt (Lk. 23:40) and a confidence in him and not ourselves (Lk. 23:42) will always lead to the most assuring truth a sinner can receive: the Savior welcomes such into his paradise!
