The intention of Christ’s incarnation

Possessing the Treasure

by Mike Ratliff

5 When Jesus came to the place, He looked up and said to him, “Zaccheus, hurry and come down, for today I must stay at your house.” 6 And he hurried and came down and received Him gladly. 7 When they saw it, they all began to grumble, saying, “He has gone to be the guest of a man who is a sinner.” 8 Zaccheus stopped and said to the Lord, “Behold, Lord, half of my possessions I will give to the poor, and if I have defrauded anyone of anything, I will give back four times as much.” 9 And Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, because he, too, is a son of Abraham. 10 For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.” (Luke 19:5-10 NASB)

I can always count on my good friend Dina to be even more angry at feminists and feminism than I am – she has to deal with young, unmarried women behaving selfishly and irresponsibly every day, and sees the trouble they cause for others.

So when she sent me this article from the UK Telegraph, and told me that I needed to write about how men are going terribly wrong, I knew it was time to balance things out a little on this blog.

Here are the parts I want to comment on:

Something strange happens to men in middle age.

[…]Aches and pains used to disappear quickly, now they hang around for months. Hair no longer grows on the head, you can’t stop it growing out of your ears. You can’t sit down, stand up, or…

The Canadian dollar dropped to an 11-year low against its U.S. counterpart this month while the Russian ruble trades near a six-month low. Global oil supply has proven resilient. A 60 percent decline in U.S. dollar prices since June 2014 hasn’t curbed U.S. production, which is near the highest level in four decades. Iraq is producing at a record pace and Russian oil output reached a post-Soviet high this year. The world’s oil glut will last through 2016.

Democrats Poison the Water Hole

2015-08-13-22157211_large.jpg

Back in 2012, Nancy Pelosi attacked Republicans for having “an ideology [that says] we shouldn’t have a government role.” She went on, “And I say to them, do you have children who breathe air? Do you have grandchildren who drink water? … [I]f you could depend on the government for one thing it was that you had to be able to trust the water that our kids drank and the food that they ate. But this is the E. coli club. They do not want to spend money to do that.” Which brings us to the EPA spilling three million gallons of toxic waste in Colorado, wreaking havoc on a river system that flows in three states and is critical for the Navajo Nation. The American Action Forum estimates the cleanup will cost a bundle. “If we were to trust past agency estimates: between $338 million and $27.7 billion.” That’s quite a range because “[t]here is no direct precedent for the toxic Animas River spill.” Sam Batkins, American Action Forum’s regulatory affairs director, cautioned, “I think it is more likely to be in the millions [than billions] because the high-end figures are based off of oil spills in the Arctic (a close comparison), however the total volume for this is less than the average major oil spill.”

Regardless of the cost, does anyone doubt that such a spill during a Republican administration would yield ’round the clock Leftmedia coverage? But because Barack Obama “cares about the environment,” they’re content to look the other way. Just don’t tell Nancy Pelosi the government ruined some drinking water.

Sacked: Labor Board Declines Football Players’ Attempt to Unionize

The National Labor Relations Board blocked the unionization attempt by a group of football players at Northwestern University by saying it didn’t have authority to regulate state-run schools. While Northwestern is a private school, “every school in the Big Ten, except Northwestern, is a state-run institution,” said an NLRB statement on the decision. “As the NCAA and conference maintain substantial control over individual teams, the Board held that asserting jurisdiction over a single team would not promote stability in labor relations across the league.” While this decision overrules a March 2014 decision by an NLRB regional director, it leaves the question unresolved, as the board said it might reconsider the issue in the future. It used to be that college sports were the sideshow to the pursuit of knowledge. We’ve arrived at this point because we’ve elevated college sports so much that the players are athletes first, students second. Still, if you have the physical prowess and discipline, it’s a good way to get an education in the age of skyrocketing college debt. Such an opportunity doesn’t entitle unionization.

Romney Was Right: Big Bird Heads to HBO

“I’m not going to keep on spending money on things to borrow money from China to pay for it,” Mitt Romney said in the 2012 campaign. He was referring to public funding for PBS in the current media age — such funding is a relic of a bygone era, on top of the fact that funding a guy in a big yellow bird costume is about as far from constitutional governance as one can get. But Romney took it on the chin from Barack Obama, who blasted him for refusing to “get rid of regulations on Wall Street, but he’s going to crack down on ‘Sesame Street.'” It was a clever line, and the millions of Americans who grew up watching Big Bird felt the emotional heartstrings pulled. Fast forward to 2015, and Sesame Workshop, the company that produces the show, has announced it will team up with HBO to produce twice as many episodes for this season of the 46-year-old show, and then release them to PBS later. Oscar the Grouch meets Game of Thrones? Not likely, but it is a sign of the times. Sesame Street co-founder Joan Ganz Cooney said, “Over the past decade, both the way in which children are consuming video and the economics of the children’s television production business have changed dramatically. In order to fund our nonprofit mission with a sustainable business model, Sesame Workshop must recognize these changes and adapt to the times.” We realize that’s a novel concept for liberals still wearing capes and pretending to be Super Grover.

Obama Lied, Americans Died

By Arnold Ahlert

2015-08-08-afebda00_large.jpg

The scope of the Obama administration’s utter fecklessness with regard to the Iranian nuclear deal has widened considerably.

Earlier this month, it was revealed that Iranian Quds Force commander Qassem Soleimani made a recent trip to Moscow, where he met with a senior Russian official — for the purposes of conducting weapons deals. He did this despite the reality he has been subject to UN Resolution 1747 that froze the assets and restricted the travel of individuals engaged in Iran’s “proliferation-sensitive” nuclear activities since 2007. Soleimani was one such individual, and any country that abides his travel is violating that resolution. Since Russia is a permanent member of the UN Security Council, it is impossible for the Kremlin to feign ignorance in that regard. Nonetheless, the man suspected of orchestrating the failed 2011 assassination attempt on the Saudi Arabian ambassador to the United States met with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Defense Minister Sergey Shoygu.

During the Aug. 6 Republican presidential debate, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) reminded Americans of the far more germane aspects of Soleimani’s thuggery, along with Russia’s thinly veiled contempt for the Obama administration Soleimani’s visit represents. “He’s directly responsible for the murder of over 500 American servicemen in Iraq and part of this Iranian deal was lifting international sanctions on Gen. Soleimani,” Cruz declared. “The day Gen. Soleimani flew back from Moscow to Iran was the day we believe Russia used cyber warfare against the Joint Chiefs.”

Outgoing U.S. Army Chief of Staff Gen. Ray Odierno backed up that assertion. “Qassem Soleimani is the one who has been exporting malign activities throughout the Middle East for some time now,” Odierno said. “He’s absolutely responsible for killing many Americans. In fact, I would say the last two years I was there, the majority of our casualties came from his surrogates, not Sunni or al-Qaida.”

Soleimani was initially designated a terrorist and sanctioned by the U.S. two years before the UN resolution went into effect. His presence in Moscow completely undercuts Secretary of State John Kerry’s assertion that Soleimani and the Quds Force will continue to face sanctions from the U.S. Treasury after UN sanctions are lifted. “Under the United States’ initiative, Qassem Soleimani will never be relieved of any sanctions,” Kerry insisted on July 29, in response to a question posed by Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR).

Really? Soleimani arrived in Moscow five days before Kerry made those assurances, but 10 days after the nuclear deal between Iran and the P5+1 powers was announced. That deal includes the lifting of the Iranian arms embargo. Since Iran has freely acknowledged the visit, either Kerry’s assertion rings exceedingly hollow, or Iran is already defying the parameters of the deal.

And just in case Obama and company aren’t quite up to speed with regard to the contempt in which they are held by both nations, it should be noted that two Russian warships docked in Iran’s Anzali port on Aug. 9 for the purpose of conducting “joint naval exercises during the three-day stay of the warships in Iran,” according to a report in Iran’s state-controlled Fars News Agency.

The move follows other thumb-in-the-eye efforts aimed at the Obama administration, including Russia’s decision in April to sell to the world’s foremost state sponsor of terrorism an advanced S-300 air defense missile system in violation of a “red line” Obama established in 2010, and Moscow’s June decision to begin building a second nuclear power plant in that nation later this year.

Remember that when you hear Obama talking about how sanctions can be “snapped back” into place.

According to Politico, one of the Left’s most reliable media shills, Obama could “effectively halt many U.S. sanctions on Iran” [emphasis added] using his power as commander in chief to do so. Why would Obama do that? As Politico asserts, “to persuade Tehran to meet its end of the bargain.”

Translation: if Congress rejects the Iranian deal as Bob Corker and Chuck Schumer advocate, Obama is prepared to kick the legislative branch of government to the curb and pursue it regardless.

As bad as that is, it gets worse. According to the Middle East Institute for Media Research (MEMRI), Obama’s original assertion for pursuing this deal is also an utter fabrication. Obama sold this deal to the public based on the idea that Iran had transitioned in 2013 from hardliner President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to the far more moderate Hassan Rouhani, thus opening the way for negotiation. In reality, negotiations began while the Holocaust-denying, “Israel should be wiped off the map”-spewing Ahmadinejad was still in power. Worse still, the administration sent a letter to the regime written by John Kerry, then a senator and head of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, recognizing its right to enrich uranium on its own soil. That enormous concession was a direct contravention of U.S. policy and numerous UN Security Council resolutions underscoring the reality Iran had no such right. Even more infuriating, Obama chose to double down on his timeline lie in his Aug. 5 speech at American University.

In other words, while Iranians were killing Americans in Iraq with explosively formed projectiles (EFPs), Obama and company were negotiating with their murderers.

“I was blown up by an Iranian bomb. … [T]hat’s who we’re making a deal with,” says sergeant Robert Bartlett, critically injured while serving in Iraq in 2005. “Every politician who’s involved in this will be held accountable. … A vote for this deal means more money for Iranian terrorism.” Bartlett and his clearly scarred face are part of an ad campaign by Veterans Against the Deal. One is left to wonder if Obama believes men who have actually walked the walk are also making the same “common cause with Iranian hardliners” that he accused Republicans of in that same Aug. 5 speech.

In truth, it is the Obama administration itself that has come to an unconscionable alignment with Iran’s murderous mullahs, one best described by columnist Mark Steyn. “I’m not a conspiracy theorist, because conspiracies are generally a comforting illusion: the real problem with Obama is that the citizens of the global superpower twice elected him to office,” Steyn writes. “Yet one way to look at the current ‘leader of the free world’ is this: If he were working for the other side, what exactly would he be doing differently?”

OPINION IN BRIEF

Stephen Moore: “[W]hat is the solution to skyrocketing costs of tuition? First, it’s time to look under the hood of the ivory towers and find out where money is being wasted. Every state legislature should demand a full-scale audit of the public universities that they support. Colleges should be forced to open their books. … Another way for colleges to become more affordable is to start forcing universities with multibillion-dollar endowments — Harvard and Yale are at or above $20 billion — to use the money to lower tuition costs to students. There are dozens of colleges that could pay 80 percent of the tuition out of their endowments and not run out of money for many decades, if ever. Why do colleges have to be vast storehouses of wealth? … What is wrong with asking 19-to-22-year-olds to work at least 10-25 hours a week to help pay for their own educations? They’d probably get more out of their classroom experiences if they had to foot some of the bill. Many colleges do this already. … It’s a good bet that if the Clinton plan were implemented, colleges would respond to the rush of money by raising tuition even further. The days of the $100,000-a-year universities would be right around the corner. Someone needs to tell Clinton that, just as there’s no such thing as a free lunch, there’s no such thing as a free college education.”

SHORT CUTS

Insight: “The so-called liberals of today have the very popular idea that freedom of speech, of thought, of the press, freedom of religion, freedom from imprisonment without trial — that all these freedoms can be preserved in the absence of what is called economic freedom. They do not realize that, in a system where there is no market, where the government directs everything, all those other freedoms are illusory, even if they are made into laws and written up in constitutions.” —Ludwig von Mises (1881-1973)

Upright: “One lesson of the success of the Trump for president campaign is that as long as you are not making sense with great certainty and forcefulness, no one will care too much that you aren’t making sense. For now, it’s part of the genius of Trump as communicator.” —Rich Lowry

The BIG Lie: “I did what other secretaries of state have done. I was permitted to and used a personal email and, obviously in retrospect, given all of the concerns that have been raised, it would have been probably  smarter not to. But I never sent nor received any classified email, nothing marked ‘Classified.’ … [I]f I had not asked for my emails all to be made public, none of this would have been in the public arena.” —Hillary Clinton

Hyper hypocrisy: “It’s not about Benghazi. And you know what, it’s not about emails or servers either. It’s about politics. I won’t get down in the mud with them. I won’t play politics with national security or dishonor the memory of those we lost. I won’t pretend this is anything other than what it is: the same old partisan games we’ve seen so many times before.” —Hillary Clinton, who is guilty of exactly what she criticizes

Touché: “Can you imagine if after the bridge investigation began I came out and said, ‘Oh, by the way, I’ve done all of my business as governor on a private email server and I have deleted now 30,000 of those emails, but trust me, none of it had to do with the bridge.’ Give me a break.” —Chris Christie

And last… “Barack Obama wrote a book titled ‘The Audacity of Hope.’ His own career, however, might more accurately be titled ‘The Mendacity of Hype.'” —Thomas Sowell

The McAvany Intel Memo

Unforeseen at first by the political left and globalists, the Internet over a decade or so became a giant dispenser of truth and accurate reporting of events – indeed an instantaneous dispenser – on a global basis. The evil globalists had been functioning with their information monopoly for decades – in the dark – largely undetected by the masses in the US and around the globe. Now their schemes for wars, mega-market manipulations, financial and political empire, and world government were being exposed to the masses all over the world – in many instances only minutes after their acts of mendacity occurred.

It should always be remembered that evil only succeeds in the dark – that is, when undetected by the masses. With the global explosion of the Internet, their information monopoly came crashing down, and with hundreds of millions of people around the world now seeing their evil machinations, their plans for world control (i.e., a global dictatorship or empire – now exposed to the light of day) began to falter.

Thus it was predictable that just as the political left has to control guns and ammunition in America to prevent a public pushback against the emerging police state/dictatorship, they have to restore their information monopoly by neutering, cleansing, censoring, or closing down the Internet – which has been waking up people in America and around the world by the hundreds of millions. Such Internet censorship is already a fait accompli in China, Russia, most communist countries, and most Muslim countries. And now, courtesy of our Marxist president and the political left, it is now about to be launched in America. The political right, the conservatives, the Constitutionalists, Christian activists, and lovers of liberty must be silenced or the global/socialist plans of the political left could fall apart. They must regain their information monopoly at all costs….

The Russian Media Is Talking About What Is Coming In September, But The U.S. Media Has Been Strangely Silent

What Is Going To Happen In September - Public DomainWhy does the Russian media seem to be far more on the ball than the mainstream media in the United States much of the time?  Could it be possible that Russian reporters have more freedom to talk about important issues than reporters that work for the major corporate conglomerates in the United States do?  Of course the Russian media is far from perfect.  They put out pro-Russian propaganda just like the U.S. media puts out pro-American propaganda.  But I must admit that I often find that Russian news sources are willing to tackle controversial issues that the mainstream media in the United States would not touch with a ten foot pole.  This includes the critical events that are coming up this September. 23 Nations Around The World Where Stock Market Crashes Are Already Happening

Globe Earth World Planet Ominous - Public DomainYou can stop waiting for a global financial crisis to happen.  The truth is that one is happening right now.  All over the world, stock markets are already crashing.  Most of these stock market crashes are occurring in nations that are known as “emerging markets”.  In recent years, developing countries in Asia, South America and Africa loaded up on lots of cheap loans that were denominated in U.S. dollars.  But now that the U.S. dollar has been surging, those borrowers are finding that it takes much more of their own local currencies to service those loans.  At the same time, prices are crashing for many of the commodities that those countries export.  The exact same kind of double whammy caused the Latin American debt crisis of the 1980s and the Asian financial crisis of the 1990s. Iran and Russia use nuclear deal to boost military ties

Fox News National Security Analyst KT McFarland spoke to foreign policy experts John Hannah and Anna Borshchevskaya about Iran’s evolving relationship with Russia.

“We’ve seen the warming of Russian-Iranian relations ties for several years now … now that we have a new deal, they are simply profiting from it,” said Borshchevskaya, a fellow at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy.

Telegraph-UK: Doomsday clock for global market crash strikes one minute to midnight as central banks lose control

Profligate private-sector loans were moved on to the public-sector balance sheet and vast money-printing gave the global economy room to heal. Time is now rapidly running out. From China to Brazil, the central banks have lost control and at the same time the global economy is grinding to a halt. It is only a matter of time before stock markets collapse under the weight of their lofty expectations and record valuations. The FTSE 100 has now erased its gains for the year, but there are signs things could get a whole lot worse.

Iran sending nuke deal money to terror groups on border, Netanyahu warns

The Iranian regime is set to increase funding for terrorist organizations bent on Israel’s destruction, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned Tuesday from Israel’s northern border, days after the army said it had run drills in the area for a large-scale battle against Iran-backed groups.

Speaking during a visit to the IDF’s Northern Command headquarters near the Lebanese border, Netanyahu warned that the Jewish state was watching its borders closely and would strike at any entity that threatened its security.

“What we have said all along has turned out to be accurate,” Netanyahu said referring to his opposition to the nuclear agreement between world powers and Tehran. “The money that will flow to Iran-sponsored terrorist organizations will be used for one stated purpose — to destroy Israel.”

“I’m here to keep a close eye on the IDF’s preparedness for these threats. We are prepared for any scenario. Those who try to harm us, we will strike at them,” he said.

Dershowitz: ‘Inept negotiator’ Obama gave Iran green light to build nuke

Prof. Alan Dershowitz with President Barack Obama in the Oval Office (Courtesy)

US President Barack Obama is currently vacationing on Martha’s Vineyard, as he does every August. For the last six years, he has always invited law professor Alan Dershowitz, who also spends his summers on the picturesque Massachusetts island, to drop by. But then the Iran deal happened.

“I’m not going to be invited to meet him this time. That’s fine. He knows my views,” Dershowitz said in an interview, referring to his fierce opposition to the nuclear accord the US and five world powers struck with Iran last month.

“He knows he made certain promises to me when we sat in the Oval Office,” Dershowitz continued. “He said to me, ‘Alan, you know I don’t bluff. I have Israel’s back. Iran will never be allowed to develop nuclear weapons. All options are on the table.’ He changed his policy. And he won’t look me in the eye.”

But when it comes to the Comprehensive Joint Plan of Action (JCPOA), Dershowitz delivers a crushing verdict. “It’s a D-minus, with grade inflation. It’s essentially a failing grade,” he said. “I would not allow this president and this secretary of state [John Kerry] — both of whom I know well, I’ve known them for a long time — I wouldn’t allow these two people to negotiate a 30-day lease for me. They’ve proved to be inept negotiators.”

New Agers Back Socialist Sanders as Messiah

The huge crowds greeting socialist Bernie Sanders in his run for the Democratic presidential nomination cannot just be attributed to large numbers of left-wingers. There is a hard-core left-wing element to the Sanders candidacy, of course. But Sanders has tapped into what used to be one of Hillary Clinton’s key constituencies, the New Age Movement. A top Sanders adviser is the influential “spiritual teacher” Marianne Williamson, whose self-help books have been heavily promoted by Oprah Winfrey and sold millions.

Iran Prepares For Israeli Strike By Purchasing 4 Russian S-300 Anti-Aircraft Systems

Russia will finalize a deal to send an advanced air defense system to Iran next week, Tehran’s defense minister said Tuesday as the two countries shore up ties in the wake of a historic nuclear deal.

“And say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against thee, O Gog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal: And I will turn thee back, and put hooks into thy jaws, and I will bring thee forth, and all thine army, horses and horsemen, all of them clothed with all sorts of armour, even a great company with bucklers and shields, all of them handling swords: Persia, Ethiopia, and Libya with them; all of them with shield and helmet:” Ezekiel 38:3-5 (KJV)

EDITOR’S NOTE: Read Ezekiel 38 and who do you see there? Russia, Iran and Israel. Read Ezekiel 39 and who do you see? Russia, Iran and Israel. Read today’s headlines and who do you see? Russia, Iran and Israel. Coming to a military theater of operations near you soon and very soon.

The text of the contract is ready and our friends will go to Russia next week to sign the contract,” Hossein Dehghan said, according to Reuters citing the Fars news agency. Dehqan said that Russia will deliver the S-300 system after carrying out “state-of art technological changes” on the missiles, which will then be delivered to Iran, according to Iranian media.

The S-300 is an advanced system for intercepting fighter jets and is intended to protect sensitive ground facilities. It is capable of engaging several jets at the same time and is considered one of the most advanced systems of its kind in the world.

Israel sees the system as one of the hardest obstacles to overcome should it seek to attack Iran’s nuclear installations.

Russia initially agreed to sell the advanced system to Iran in 2007, but balked on the deal, saying at the time it was complying with a United Nations arms embargo. In April, shortly after the announcement of the Lausanne outline for the nuclear deal between world powers and Iran, Russia announced it was lifting the ban on selling the advanced missile defense system to Iran, despite US and Israeli objections.

The FARS news agency quoted Dehqan as saying that Tehran asked for three batteries of the system and recently added a fourth one to the order.

The system is slated to be delivered by 2016, Dehqan said, according to Iranian media.

The announcement comes a day after Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammed Javad Zarif visited Moscow in a sign of flourishing ties between the countries. Zarif reportedly discussed the S-300 deal with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov as well as the Syrian civil war and other issues.

The two denied a report that Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps head Qassem Soliemani had visited Moscow recently and met with high-level Russian officials despite a UN travel ban. According to reports, Soleimani’s visit was devoted to the S-300 deal.

In April, Israeli pilots flying F16I jets, the most advanced fighters currently in service in the Israeli Air Force, conducted a drill in Greece in which they practiced attacking S-300 batteries, according to a report in Israel Defense. According to the report, the Israelis conducted joint maneuvers with Greek pilots where they simulated attacks on the S-300 system deployed in Crete. The drill, according to the report, included 150 Greek jets and 10 Israeli jets.

According to the report, IAF commander Major General Amir Eshel visited his troops and even flew one sortie over the Aegean Sea side by side with his Greek counterpart. Eshel has described the S-300 as a very tough but not insurmountable challenge for the Israeli Air Force. source

The Russian Media Is Talking About What Is Coming In September

Posted: 18 Aug 2015 07:58 AM PDT

Why does the Russian media seem to be far more on the ball than the mainstream media in the United States much of the time?

Could it be possible that Russian reporters have more freedom to talk about important issues than reporters that work for the major corporate conglomerates in the United States do?  Of course the Russian media is far from perfect.  They put out pro-Russian propaganda just like the U.S. media puts out pro-American propaganda.  But I must admit that I often find that Russian news sources are willing to tackle controversial issues that the mainstream media in the United States would not touch with a ten foot pole.  This includes the critical events that are coming up this September.

Even after everything that has been said and written in the alternative media about what is going to happen during September, most Americans are still completely ignorant about the history changing events that are going to take place next month.

First of all, the most important template for global governance that the United Nations has ever dreamed up is going to be launched at a major conference from September 25th to September 27th.  The launching of this “new universal agenda” is such an important event that the Pope is going to be traveling to New York City to give the address that will kick off this conference.  This new plan is known as “the 2030 Agenda“, and it is being called “Agenda 21 on steroids”.  This is one of the most significant steps toward global government in the history of the world, and yet the mainstream media in the United States is saying virtually nothing about it. During the performance on ‘Amazing Chinese’, China’s answer to Britain’s Got Talent by China Central Television Station, she stroked each animal before laying them on their back. She then carried on stroking them for a few more seconds before lifting up her hands. Surprisingly, the animal remained completely still and appeared to be in a trance. HRC’s ‘Gender Inclusive Classrooms’ Guide: Say ‘Friends’ or ‘Students’ Instead of Girls and Boys

Posted: 18 Aug 2015 05:12 AM PDT

To help “create a classroom where students aren’t limited based on gender stereotypes,” teachers should address classes using words like “friends or “students” rather than girls and boys, the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) advises in a new back-to-school guide.

The first tip suggested by the HRC’s Welcoming Schools Initiative is for teachers to avoid using gender to “divide and address students.” The guide claims that separating students for activities according to gender “can leave some students feeling out-of-place, making them distracted or isolated and not able to focus on learning.”

The guide recommends finding new, inventive ways of dividing students for activities. “When lining students up for lunch, rather than saying, ‘Girls line up first,’ try saying, ‘Anyone wearing a green shirt can line up,’ or ‘If your name has an E please line up.’”

The guide also advises teachers to “prepare for teachable moments” linking to suggested responses for questions that might come up in class such as: “How can a family have two moms [dads]? Which one is the real one?” and “Don’t you need a woman and a man to have a baby?” FULL REPORT

Venezuela’s currency is now so worthless that people are using it as napkins

Venezuela’s Currency has been reduced to nothing but good napkins! According to Business Insider, There’s an image going round that sums up just how ridiculous Venezuela’s economy has become. A Reddit user uploaded a picture on Monday of a man using a 2 bolivar note to hold an empanada. According to Venezuela’s official bolivar-dollar exchange rate, the man using his money as a napkin is wasting about $0.31 (£0.20).

But on the black market, the reality is completely different. You can get 676.88 bolivars to the dollar, according to dolartoday.com. That means holding food with a 2 bolivar note costs the holder less than a third of one US cent. Dolartoday.com’srt shows just how the value of the bolivar has plunged, with more and more units of the Venezuelan currency required to get hold of a single dollar: FULL REPORT

All Out War As Russia Prepares To Deploy 50,000 Troops To Ukraine

Posted: 18 Aug 2015 05:01 AM PDT

According to a new report the second Ukrainian ceasefire appears to have fallen apart as reports from around the country indicate that heavy fighting has resumed. Though Western media has yet to report on activity that began Sunday, independent journalists and eye witnesses have been updating social networks with photos, videos and first-hand accounts.

It’s all-out war in the Ukraine with multiple Ukrainian cities now under attack by rockets, mortars and heavy artillery fire Other sources note that as many as 50,000 Russian military personnel have massed either inside of Ukraine or directly on its border, with heavy armor, including T-90A tanks making their way to the hot zones: Ukrainian activists on August 14-15 published photos of the Russian amour on their Facebook page. Military authorities in Ukraine believe the number of Russian troops within and close to its borders has risen to more than 50,000, raising fears of a substantial escalation in the conflict raging in Ukraine’s eastern regions. New set of global laws targeting Jews on horizon?

Posted: 18 Aug 2015 04:55 AM PDT

Are we about to witness history come full circle? The dehumanization of the Jewish people came to its apex during World War II and the Holocaust. The German phenomenon did not take place overnight, but rather was the result of an incremental yet constant persecution of the European Jewish community over the centuries. Hitler and the Nazi Party gained power in 1933 and within two years started to implement policies that would lead to the “Final Solution to the Jewish Question,” the infamous euphemism for the killing of 6 million Jews during the Holocaust.

The most notorious of these sets of laws was known as the “Nuremberg Race Laws,” or more commonly “The Nuremberg Laws” (not to be confused with the post-war “Nuremberg Trials” of the Nazi murderers). The Nuremberg Laws of 1935 were divided into two categories. One was “The Law for the Protection of German Blood and German Honour,” and the other was “The Reich Citizenship Law.” Both were based on the false science of Eugenics, or racial purity. In their entirety, The Nuremberg Laws were aimed at ostracizing the Jews from German society to the point of making work, life and socializing virtually impossible. They represented the foundation for the Nazi definition of who is a Jew, who is Aryan and as a result who deserved to live and who deserved to die. FULL REPORT

Iran to arm West Bank Palestinians for new Eastern Front to remove Israel

Posted: 18 Aug 2015 04:48 AM PDT

Are we seeing the “War of Psalm 83″ shaping up in the middle East? According to a new report Al Qods commander Gen. Qassem Soleimani, acting on the orders of Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, this week set up a new Iranian command to fight Israel, DEBKAfile reports exclusively from its military and intelligence sources. It has been dubbed the Eastern Command of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards. The Al Qods Brigades, which are the external terrorist arm of the Guards, are organized according to sectors, with commands for Hizballah, the Palestinians, Syria, Iraq and the Gulf.

Psalm 83:2-4 – For behold, Your enemies make a tumult;
And those who hate You have lifted up their head. They have taken crafty counsel against Your people,
And consulted together against Your sheltered ones. They have said, “Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation, That the name of Israel may be remembered no more.”

Their newest sector is the Eastern Command which, our sources report has been assigned as its first task to start handing out weapons, including missiles, to any Palestinian West Bank group willing to receive them. Tehran’s object is to transform the West Bank into a territory hostile to Israel on the model of southern Lebanon which is ruled by the armed Hizballah and the Gaza Strip under the Hamas and Islamic Jihad terrorists. In the first week of August, Tehran published a book of 416 pages written by Ali Khamenei entitled “Palestine.” The cover image was labeled “The flagbearer of Jihad to liberate Jerusalem.” FULL REPORT

The Associated Press (AP) reports that the toxic plume, which is believed to have already reached Lake Powell on the Utah-Arizona border, left in its wake extremely high concentrations of lead, arsenic, cadmium and various other neurodamaging chemicals. Marc Raibert, the founder of Boston Dynamics, talked about the research and showed footage of the project during a talk on Aug. 3 at the 11th Fab Lab Conference and Symposium in Cambridge, Mass. Several of the competitors on the DRC contest used the Atlas robot as a base, with teams adding their own software. However, Boston Dynamics says its own software has taken some major steps forward since. FULL REPORT

Only Two Religions!

I don’t know if you know this but there are only two religions in the entire world.

You might say I’m nuts.  There are hundreds if not thousands!

wearing masksBut there is one religion that likes to put on hundreds if not thousands of different masks on, and so ultimately there are only two: the religion of Human Achievement and the religion of Divine Accomplishment.

You see Islam, Mormonism, Buddhism, Catholicism, Judaism and every single religion that you have ever heard of, ultimately teaches some form of a works-based salvation. They say that you have to be a little more good than bad in order to make it to heaven. These religions encourage you to hand God a resume when you face Him one day. The resume will be filled with all your accomplishments. It will list everything you’ve done for other people, every penny you’ve given to charity and every good deed you’ve done. God will look over this resume and say, “Good job! You’ve made it into heaven”.

The problem is that if you were to enter into heaven because of a resume based on your accomplishments God would get no glory; you would be the one who gets all the praise. In fact, Ephesians 2:9 would say that salvation is not of works lest you patting-self-on-back-1should boast! Genesis chapter one shows us that God created the entire universe including you. Everything He created is designed to bring Him glory. The problem is that sin has entered the world, and from birth we all have replaced exalting God with exalting ourselves. Everything we do from birth is geared towards bringing us glory and bringing praise to ourselves. We all have a throne in our hearts that God should be sitting and reigning on, but instead we are born with ourselves sitting on it. We are so used to it we don’t even notice it to the point where we all think that our resumes are good enough to get us into heaven.

my mom thinks im coolOf course we are going to think that we are good people! Of course my mom is going to tell me I’m a good person! But what does your Creator think? He says in Romans 3:23 that we all have sinned and fall short of His glory. He also says in Romans 6:23 that the wages of sin is death. So if we stand before God and start listing accomplishments or hand Him a resume we might as well slap Jesus in the face because God is going to look at the resume and say, “I killed my only Son because you were not good enough to get to me!”

And that’s where the only other religion comes in.

The religion of Divine Accomplishment. God saw your situation, and decided that since man was so sinful and could not save himself, that He would come Himself and take the form of a man. He humbled himself, spent nine months in a womb he created, grew up with every temptation you and I face every day, but without sinning. He then died on the cross for our sins, and then rose from the dead and defeated death. He made it possible for human beings to stand before God one day and not hand Him a resume and condemn themselves further, but rather, tell God that they deserve His wrath but have placed their faith and trust in the work that Jesus did on their behalf on the cross and through His resurrection.

You see we need someone to be a substitute for us because no matter how hard we try, we can never bridge the gap between God and us. And the substitute can’t be merely a human.  It must be God Himself.

Do you see the difference between Christianity and every other religion?

“My Last Day” — the Jesus Anime

9 powerful minutes of animation that begins with a thief behind bars watching the scourging of Jesus, and it ends with the thief dying next to Jesus, and waking to see Him in a beautiful place.

The dying thief: What was so great about his faith?

There are many acts of extraordinary faith in the Bible. The one that has impressed me the most concerns the dying thief on the cross. We could take the approach that he had nothing to lose, so he decided to cast his lot with Jesus. But this makes absolutely no sense of the text and the context.
In this conversion we have a specific fulfillment of Christ’s first words on the cross. No sooner had Christ spoken the words, “Father, forgive them,” had the Father answered that prayer by turning a once-reviling criminal into a Christ-glorifying saint. While the soon-to-be converted criminal was not directly responsible for Christ’s death, he nevertheless joined with those who were and was thus indirectly addressed when Christ asked for God to forgive “them.”
Christ, the sinless one, was numbered with or counted among the transgressors (Isa. 53:12; Luke 22:37), all of whom have a bigger problem than the day-to-day sins they commit. They hate Christ, the God-man. Anyone who has a master other than the Lord Jesus hates him (Lk. 16:13; Gal. 4:8). That these two criminals loathed him is clearly manifested during the crucifixion: “And the robbers who were crucified with him also reviled him in the same way” (Matt. 27:44).
When the criminal who was converted was doing his worst against Christ, Christ was doing his best for this criminal.
The conversion of the one criminal was most extraordinary and testifies to the power of Christ’s prayer and the grace of God. Why?
This criminal’s faith did not come at a time such as when Christ turned water into wine; or performed miracles, such as walking on water, opening the eyes of a blind man, or raising Lazarus from the dead. No! The criminal believed on the Messiah while he was hanging as one cursed upon a tree. The criminal trusted in and boldly defended the one whose disciples had abandoned him. Jesus was at his lowest when this criminal asked to be remembered in Christ’s kingdom.
When he was on the cross, did anyone publicly cry out, as John the Baptist did, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!” (Jn. 1:29)? But this is essentially what the dying thief did. Little wonder, then, that Christ should promise him a place in his kingdom: “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise” (Lk. 23:43).
The criminal acknowledged he was guilty; he acknowledged that Christ was not (“this man has done nothing wrong”); he feared God; but, and here is the key: the criminal did not merely want to be in a better place. He wanted to be with Christ in a better place: “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom” (Lk. 23:42). The criminal believed “against all hope”.
Heaven is a better place because that is where Christ is. Everyone wants to go to heaven, but not everyone wants to go to Christ’s heaven. Not so with this criminal: he saw, with his eyes, Christ at his worst; but with the eyes of faith, he believed that Christ would soon be at his best, and so put his faith in a dying king.
Christ is always – always! – willing to save even the most miserable of sinners. A recognition of guilt (Lk. 23:40) and a confidence in him and not ourselves (Lk. 23:42) will always lead to the most assuring truth a sinner can receive: the Savior welcomes such into his paradise!
“One is saved, and we may not despair; the other is lost, and we may not presume.” Spurgeon

Sex is More AND Less Important Than You Think

In response to this radical downplaying of the seriousness of sex, the Church must step up and say, “Sexuality is far more serious than you think.” Casual sex is a myth. It is a radically diminished view of sex that kidnaps it from its covenantal home and strips it of its spiritual dimension. That’s why the Church must say and show how sexuality is a serious matter.

Delighting in the Trinity

“John Calvin once wrote that if we try to think about God without thinking about the Father, Son, and Spirit, then “only the bare and empty name of God flits about in our brains, to the exclusion of the true God.” Quite so, and that means that if we content ourselves with speaking of God vaguely or abstractly, without the Father, Son, and Spirit, we will never know the life, beauty, and comfort of knowing the true God.”

This is Why I Am Pro-Life, Not Just Anti-Abortion

Pro-Lifers….you’ve got to stop using the argument, “It’s life, so therefore it’s murder.”  It’s falling on deaf ears!  The real question is, “What makes a person?” And that question, right there, is the best one to ask in an abortion discussion.  Because guess what?  No one really knows the answer.  And that’s dangerous.

Conformity: Skilful Engagement

We behold God’s beauty and beautify it in creation when we wisely and skillfully use it and shape it. We can only act like Christ did towards the created order when we wisely, and therefore skillfully understands its use. Paul furnishes us with an example.

Eat whatever is sold in the meat market, asking no questions for conscience’ sake; for “the earth is the LORD’S, and all its fullness.” If any of those who do not believe invites you to dinner, and you desire to go, eat whatever is set before you, asking no question for conscience’ sake. But if anyone says to you, “This was offered to idols,” do not eat it for the sake of the one who told you, and for conscience’ sake; for “the earth is the LORD’S, and all its fullness.” (1Co 10:25-28)

In an apparent paradox, Paul uses the same verse about creation (Psalm 24:1) to back up two opposite courses of action. He explains that in one circumstance, believers are to eat, and then quotes ‘the earth is the LORD’s, and all its fullness”. He then writes that in another circumstance, believers are not to eat, and then quotes exactly the same verse ‘the earth is the LORD’s, and all its fullness.” The goodness of creation can be applied in opposite ways.

In the first circumstance, Paul speaks of buying food at the meat market. The food at the meat market often came from pagan temples, where it had originally been used in pagan worship. Paul says, don’t make trouble for your own conscience by asking, “Where did this meat come from? Was it sacrificed to idols?” You are a Christian shopping for meat, Paul says, and here is meat for sale. Buy it. Eat it. Why? Because “the earth is the Lord’s, and all its fulness” – food is part of creation, the meat is part of his good world, so eat it. That’s one way to use creation. We understand its use and use it that way.

In the second circumstance, Paul speaks of sharing a meal with an unbeliever. Once again, Paul says, don’t make trouble for your conscience by asking the unbeliever, “Where did you get this meat? Did you consecrate this to idols? Did you pray a pagan prayer over this?” No, Paul says. You are there to eat, and here is food. Eat it. However, Paul says, let’s say that before you eat, the unbeliever says something, perhaps to test you, perhaps to warn you, perhaps to taunt you. He tells you that that food was offered to idols. In that case, Paul says, don’t eat. Politely refuse for the sake of the pagan who told you of its former use. That man has now, as it were, invited you to join an idol feast. The food is still the same, but the meaning of eating it has changed because of what the pagan said. The pagan is now inviting you to fellowship with his gods. And Paul says, as testimony to him, as witness to him, don’t eat. Why? “The earth is the Lord’s, and all its fullness”, in other words, in God’s good world there will always be something else to eat, and that person is more important than your stomach. He is also part of God’s earth, needs salvation, God will meet your need out of his fullness, but abstain from the food. That’s a second way to use creation.

As verse 31 says, you need to eat to the glory of God, and you can also not eat to the glory of God.
You can love God in regards to food by eating, and you can love God in regards to food by not eating. What makes the difference? The meaning of that part of creation.

In the one occasion, the meaning is food for sustenance, food to be received with thanksgiving, food that will bring pleasure to send you up to God in gratitude, food that will remind you of God your provider. In the second occasion, the meaning is different. Now the food is associated with idolatry. The meaning has been changed by what the food has been used for. To eat in the second instance has a different meaning from eating in the first case. Isn’t the food just neutral organic matter? Yes, but nothing is neutral once moral agents use it. Once we image-bearers of God use anything in creation – food, clothing, art, the body, money, technology – we assign meaning to it. And that meaning determines how you ought to use it for the glory of God.

To love God in creation is to become wise about what the thing in question means. Piggy-backing upon the discipline of thoughtful examination, this discipline takes meanings and applies them to pleasing God. We want to skilfully engage with creation, not blindly partake of all things in the name of Christian liberty. Paul says, when you use creation, determine the meaning of what you are doing, or using, or partaking of, to see how to love and glorify God in it. Whatever cannot be done for his glory should not be done at all. Conversely, all that can be loved for his sake, or performed for his glory, ought to be done for His glory. Once again, God’s image-bearers are tasked with incarnating the order and beauty of God in the world in their engagement with creation.

Who Are You Not To Judge?

Skilful engagement with creation requires discernment. Discernment is another way of saying good judgement. The ability to judge, discriminate, sense what is appropriate and what is not – this is indispensable to conforming to Christ amidst creation. If we do not have this discernment, then we will almost certainly end up abusing creation (1 Cor 7:31), because we fail to properly judge the meaning of what we are partaking.

This judgement or discernment is not the same as biblical knowledge. Knowledge comes in the form of the propositions and the images and the principles of Scripture. Judgement uses that knowledge, but then does something more. Judgement has to understand meaning, and apply it skillfully. It must take the knowledge from the Word, and then also use knowledge in the world, and weigh things well to make decisions that glorify God and enable us to continue communing with him. To put it another way, Proverbs tells us to pursue wisdom. Wisdom is understanding all of life from God’s point of view. That includes understanding the meaning of creation. Here is why the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. We begin with a God-centred attitude, and we then read creation. We take in God’s Word and then read God’s world.

Judging, discerning, and skilfully making decisions is commanded by Scripture.

This is why Paul says Test all things; hold fast what is good. (1Th 5:21)

And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in knowledge and all discernment, (Phil 1:9)

Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy– meditate on these things. (Phi 4:8)

In fact, anytime we apply Scripture to some aspect of life that the Bible doesn’t explicitly address, we are using judgement. With every ethical issue we deal with – abortion, death penalty, war, economics, government, environment – we have to use sound judgement. With every cultural issue we deal with – music, dress, entertainment, technology, dating, art – we have to use sound judgement. The knowledge is given in Scripture, and then sound judgement must use and apply that knowledge.

Why Tolerance Is Different Than Acceptance

Here is a great article by William Ruger called Why Tolerance Is Different Than Acceptance.

Government Orders Christian Baker Jack Phillips To Receive LGBT Reeducation Training

Jack Phillips of Masterpiece Cakeshop said Christian business owners are under attack – especially those providing goods and services to the wedding industry.

“Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name’s sake.” Matthew 24:9 (KJV)

As many of you know, Jack Phillips bakeshop has been in court recently over his refusal to create a cake celebrating a sodomite wedding. But what you may not know is that his business, Masterpiece Cakeshop, was targeted by the LGBT Mafia because they knew he would refuse to make the cake. There are plenty of area bakeries who would gladly fill the order, but they chose his shop simply and only because he’s a Christian with a strong testimony for Jesus Christ. This is not about cakes, people, it’s about control, power, and LGBT Agenda.

jack-phillips-masterpiece-cakeshop-colorado-loses-lgbt-court-fight-reeducation-camp

“The ALJ found that Phillips had been a Christian for approximately thirty-five years and believes in Jesus Christ as his Lord and savior. Phillips believes that decorating cakes is a form of art, that he can honor God through his artistic talents, and that he would displease God by creating cakes for same-sex marriages.”

The court affirmed the Colorado Civil Rights Commission’s order that Jack Phillips, the owner of the Masterpiece Cakeshop, violated the Colorado Anti-Discrimination Act when he refused to make a wedding cake for Charlie Craig and David Mullins. Jack, a devout Christian who honors God through his baking, had argued that he could not participate in same-sex ceremonies because it would violate his religious beliefs. The appeals court ruled otherwise. Phillips lost on appeal. Now here is where it gets scary.

Phillips is not only required by law now to make gay wedding cakes, the government also has demanded that he and his entire staff be sent away to “receive training” in the LGBT agenda and policies. We are getting closer and closer to the rounding of dissenters and having them placed in the FEMA Camps that they swear don’t exist. About the order to attend reeducation camp, Phillips said this:

My mom is on my staff and she said she will not be retrained,” he defiantly said. “And I’m not going to make same-sex wedding cakes.” “A lot of Christians are under attack – bakers and florists, wedding chapels,” he said.

In Nazi Germany, the stain of oppression crept so slowly that most were not even aware until it was too late. America, in 2015 under Obama, is going in exactly the same direction. Each day we lose another mouthful of our liberties, not very much when compared to the freedoms we still have, but each new day returns less than the one before. At some point, perhaps when you are sitting on the train that’s taking you away, you will think back on this time and wonder why you did nothing about it. With tears streaming down your face you will wish to have this time back when you were still free, to open up your mouth and  say “no” to your governmental masters.

We are living in the time where the end is coming, why sit ye idle and do nothing? While freedom yet remains, open your mouth for Jesus Christ and BOLDLY proclaim the gospel to a lost and dying world. Yes, you will suffer financial losses. Yes you will be hauled into court. Yes you will be openly mocked and beaten down by the New World Order’s LGBT Mafia agenda. But if you’re a Christian, this is what you signed on for. These are the days of prophecy, now is the time. Order a box of NTEB Gospel Tracts, and strike a defiant blow to the heart of Satan’s plan. What are you waiting for?

Will Catastrophe Strike The Earth In September?
by Al Dager, 8/2/15

Will it be an asteroid, a comet or a meteor that will strike the earth? What of the Four Blood Moons, the Year of Shemitah, Jade Helm 15? Christians are hearing that prophets are predicting terrible things to occur this coming September, 2015. Some claim that God has given them prophecies about calamities that portend His judgment upon the earth and the imminent return  of  Jesus.  It  is  even  reported  that  the  Rapture will occur on September 23, 2015. Christians around the world are being moved to move. Someplace, anyplace, to escape God’s wrath. What to do? What to do? Even before John Hagee brought the message of Mark Biltze’s four-blood-moons theory to the forefront of Christians’ consciousness, there has arisen a new fervor of expectation that “God is about to do something!”

Heidelberg 113: Being Content

In a world in which we seem to be surrounded by death and corruption, it is most difficult to imagine what it must have been like to be without sin but we were created “in righteousness and true holiness.” We were not sinful. We did not have any moral, intellectual, psychological, or emotional corruption. We […]

Presidential Candidate Ted Cruz: The Body of Christ Must ‘Rise Up’ This Election Season

Christian News Network reports:

Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz is calling upon Christians and their pastors to “rise up” for biblical values during the 2016 election season.

“Nothing is more important in the next 18 months than that the Body of Christ rises up and that Christians stand up—that pastors stand up and lead,” he said in a recent interview with the American Family Association during a campaign stop in Mississippi. (Watch here.)

He noted that his father, Rafael Cruz, a pastor, has been encouraging other pastors to be salt and light in the nation.

“He will tell pastors, ‘Listen, God really laid upon my heart that no one bears greater responsibility for the condition of this country today than the pastors,’” Cruz explained. “Because if the flock stumbles into a ditch, you don’t blame the sheep; you blame the shepherd.”

Have evangelical voters lost their prolife priorities in supporting Trump?

A recent Fox News Poll says that Donald Trump is leading the field of GOP candidates among evangelical voters. Fox News reports:

The top favorites among the white evangelical Christians are Trump (27 percent), Carson (14 percent), Cruz (12 percent), Bush (10 percent) and Huckabee (9 percent).

At 27 percent, Trump nearly doubles his closest rival, Ben Carson. This popularity among evangelicals is quite surprising in light of Trump’s stated views on abortion. Trump has said in recent days that he is open to continue some federal funding for Planned Parenthood. Moreover, Trump says that he favors the so-called “health” exception that has given us legal abortion on demand throughout all nine months of pregnancy. Even though he says he’s prolife, these two statements are substantively pro-abortion rights.

So Trump is not exactly your typical evangelical pick for president. So what gives? Are evangelicals selling out their priorities for a celebrity candidate? Maybe not.

The support from evangelicals who regularly attend church is less than half that of “evangelicals” broadly defined. According to Reuters, Trump’s support is only 11% among those who describe themselves as regular, church-going born-again Christians (HT: Jacob Lupfer).

I still think it’s difficult to explain why even 11% would support a candidate whose position on abortion is indistinguishable from your average pro-choicer. But there it is. Support among those who are Evangelicals by conviction is much lower than those who are Evangelicals in name only.

Why an ancient Jewish king provides a powerful model for the next American President

By Joel Rosenberg

Choosing the right leader is not an easy process, but it is vitally important. After all, America is on the wrong track. We are going in the wrong direction. We are in deep trouble as a nation, heading steadily — perhaps rapidly — towards implosion. We’ve murdered 57 million babies. Five Justices on the Supreme Court have decided that the Bible is wrong and they know better what marriage should be. We’re taken on $18 trillion in debt with no end in sight. We are surrendering to Iran and ISIS.

5 Lies I Used to Believe About Following Jesus

I wonder sometimes how many people wake up every day, walk out the door and live a life filled with lies. How many people wake up believing the lie that they are unworthy, unloved and unwanted? How many live in the falsehood of legalism, constantly trying to “earn” God’s love? I wonder how many people have bought into religion and completely missed out on Jesus?

I know it’s possible to live life that way, because I did it. I lived a life of trying and doing, instead of a life of trusting and believing. Here are just a few of the lies I used to believe about being Christian …

1. Your behavior affects God’s love for you.

The truth is you don’t have to try to use your behavior to earn God’s love. He loves you despite your behavior. Christ died for us while we were still sinners. God’s love for you isn’t based on what you do or don’t do, it’s based on His Son, Jesus!

Romans 5:8

2. You have to ‘dress up’ when you go to church.

There is nothing in the Bible that says you have to wear a suit and tie or polished shoes to church. Don’t get me wrong; I’m not condemning the idea of wearing nice clothes to church. I’m just saying that your dress and attire is a personal preference, not a biblical command. God is interested in your heart, not your outfit. He looks on the internal of man, not the external.

1 Samuel 16:7

3. Church is a weekly event and just a building.

Living in the Bible belt, going to church can sometimes be seen as just something that everyone does. It’s often compartmentalized and sectioned off from affecting the rest of our week. The church is frequently viewed as just a building and not a body. In reality, we should see the church as a body that just so happens to meet in a building. The Bible talks about the church as a living and breathing thing, not just a meeting that takes place each week with some singing and preaching. We weren’t meant to love an event, we were meant to love people.

Ephesians 2:19-22

4. Raising hands or displaying emotion in worship is reserved for the super-spiritual.

I’m not the most outgoing or excitable person in the world, so for me to display emotion or raise my hands in church, it was extremely awkward … at first. See, I had no problem lifting my hands in excitement at a football game, but for some reason I saw church differently. I discovered that my problem with lifting my hands in worship was a thought-process issue, not a personality issue. There is scripture after scripture offering biblical examples of the practice (see 1 Tim. 2:8,Psalm 63:4,Lamentations 3:41,Psalm 141:2). The Psalms are full of gut-wrenching emotion in response to God. David even encourages the expression of your worship by clapping your hands, shouting in a voice of triumph and even dancing. Worship is a matter of the heart, and anything we do externally should  be in response to God moving internally. I do believe you can worship God quietly and solemnly, but if the only place you don’t feel emotion is at church then I would ask, “Why?”

5. The Bible is mostly about rules and regulations.

The Bible isn’t about rules; it’s about Jesus. When we view the Bible as a rulebook, we will lose interest quickly because there is no connection made. The Bible is designed to be used in the context of relationship. The goal in reading the Word shouldn’t be to get to the end of a certain chapter, but to meet Jesus along the way. If we know everything about the Bible, but don’t know Jesus personally, then we have missed the point!

John 5:39

I challenge you to ask yourself if you believe any of those ideas. You’re not alone if you do. The good news is there is hope, because there is truth. And the truth has the power to set you free (John 8:32).  Don’t trust in religion or ritual, trust in Jesus.

What are some of the lies you may have bought into as a Christian?

Five Small Group Lessons from Jesus

Pat and I were married just a few years before work moved us from Pennsylvania to Florida. Visiting a nearby church, we met Dave and Gloria who invited us to their home and introduced us to another young couple. As the holidays approached that year, Dave and Gloria invited us for Christmas dinner.

We were far from home, but people in that church were intentional about making connections. After Dave and Gloria connected us with others, someone invited us to join a newly formed small group. The group was to meet for eight weeks and go through material in a discipleship workbook. Pat and I had never been part of a group like this together, and so we jumped into our first small group experience.

Small group time prepares us to reach beyond ourselves and join Christ in ministry.

We’ve learned a lot about small groups since those early years. Small groups do not replace corporate worship of the church, and the lessons learned in small groups do not substitute for the preaching of the gospel from the pulpit. But small groups perform a vital role in the church as they provide opportunities for members to connect, learn, grow, and minister side by side.

Jesus showed us a model of a healthy small group when he called, taught, and sent out his group of twelve. As we develop small groups of our own, here are five ways we can follow the example of Christ with his disciples.

1. Small groups are formed intentionally.

Christ offered a personal invitation to each of his disciples.

After this he went out and saw a tax collector named Levi, sitting at the tax booth. And he said to him, “Follow me.”  (Luke 5:27)

As transplants in Florida, we didn’t seek out ways to get involved. We just showed up at church one Sunday, and Dave and Gloria made it their business to connect us with others. Without a personal invitation, we would have been slow to get involved. Their hospitality, especially at the holidays, taught us how to show hospitality ourselves.

2. Small groups break socio-economic boundaries.

Jesus gathered men from different backgrounds to form his small group of twelve. He regularly mixed with people that did not fit the profile of proper religious company.

And the scribes of the Pharisees, when they saw that he was eating with sinners and tax collectors, said to his disciples, “Why does he eat with tax collectors and sinners?” (Mark 2:16)

People are naturally comfortable with those most like themselves. But Jesus broke social norms by bringing people together who otherwise would never rub shoulders.

Likewise, he gathers people in small groups today who otherwise might never meet — laborers, surgeons, teachers, and stay-at-home moms. We share our struggles and watch God work in our lives.

3. Small groups are opportunities to learn God’s Word.

Not only was Christ deliberate about inviting each member of his twelve to follow him, he was deliberate about teaching them, too. The disciples enjoyed fellowship and meals with Jesus, but one of the greatest benefits of being among the twelve was that they could learn God’s Word.

Seeing the crowds, he went up on the mountain, and when he sat down, his disciples came to him. And he opened his mouth and taught them. (Matthew 5:1-2)

That first small group gave us a taste of small group Bible study, and we’ve been hooked ever since. Others have discovered the benefits of small groups, particularly Bible study small groups. A Church Leaders article refers to a 2011 study in Sociology of Religion:

“Any type of small group will benefit a church, whether it’s a Sunday School, a service group, or a basketball league, because of the belonging and commitment they foster,” added Dougherty. “But small Bible study and prayer groups are better at promoting discipleship and spiritual growth.”

We hear Bible teaching on Sunday morning in church, and then we get to apply that teaching as we share what we see God doing in and around us.

4. Small groups provide a place of refreshment.

Jesus recognized the need for rest and refreshment away from the crowds, and he offered his small group a retreat:

The apostles returned to Jesus and told him all that they had done and taught. And he said to them, “Come away by yourselves to a desolate place and rest a while.” For many were coming and going, and they had no leisure even to eat. (Mark 6:30-31)

In the midst of our hurried lives, small groups offer us a place of refuge. We miss our time with our small group. We’re eager to get back together each week, and we hate when circumstances force us to cancel a meeting.

5. Small groups reach beyond their small groups.

Jesus brought his twelve together for a season, and then commissioned them to go out and carry on the work of ministry:

And he called the twelve and began to send them out two by two, and gave them authority over the unclean spirits. (Mark 6:7)

Small groups are not just for the benefit of the members. They minister to others outside the small group. Our time together prepares us to reach beyond ourselves and join Christ in ministry. Sometimes this means that one small group must end so that others can begin. We feel nostalgic and wish to recapture the closeness we felt with our original group members, and yet we understand that the purpose of our small group was never just for us — it was to equip us to minister to others.

We left Florida years ago and have lost track of that first small group. Now that we are separated by many miles, years may pass before we get to see Dave and Gloria again. The lessons they taught us have made a lasting impact in our own small group ministries over the years. Pat and I have learned to be intentional about showing hospitality, starting small groups, teaching God’s Word, and being flexible enough to encourage members to move into new ministries when our time together draws to a close.

We still have much to learn, but for now, we hope to follow the example Christ left us as he led his small group of twelve.

A Biblical Perspective on Homosexuality

In light of the Supreme Court’s decision earlier this summer, here are six articles from The Master’s Seminary Journal that address the issue of homosexuality from a biblical perspective.

1. God’s Word on Homosexuality: The Truth about Sin and the Reality of Forgiveness

Abstract: Through following a distorted meaning of “love,” some in the present day have condoned homosexual practice, without realizing that biblical love excludes homosexuality because of its sinfulness. Christians can best share the gospel with homosexuals by calling their lifestyle what the Bible calls it—sin. Genesis 1–2, Matthew 19, and Ephesians 5 describe clearly the way that God has instituted marriage as a monogamous, heterosexual relationship. Genesis 19, Jude 7, and 2 Peter 2 illustrate how the Fall almost immediately eroded the purity of human sexuality, including a devastation of the divine institution of marriage. Leviticus 18 and 20 and Romans 1 lay out very plainly God’s instructions about how repulsive homosexuality is in God’s sight. Yet Isaiah 56 and 1 Corinthians 6 make plain God’s plan for homosexuals to find freedom and forgiveness through a life-changing faith in Jesus Christ. The door is wide open for homosexuals and lesbians to accept God’s invitation.

2. The Church’s Response to Homosexuality

Abstract: A tidal wave of immorality has inundated the United States and the rest of the world, demanding that the church respond to homosexuality in four ways. First, it must expose the sinfulness of homosexuality as depicted in the NT. Second, it must clarify that the grace of God and forgiveness extends to homosexuals also. The NT also makes this clear. Third, the church must expel practicing homosexuals from its fellowship. For them to remain a part of the church activities is a blemish that cannot be tolerated because it would indicate moral compromise, a lack of courage in confronting sin, and a failure to exercise the biblical prerogative of excommunication. Fourth, the church must resist the assault of homosexuality on society as a whole. The purposeful effort to sell the homosexual lifestyle is organized and dangerous and needs a concerted resistance to halt that movement.

3. Christian Parenting and Homosexuality

Abstract: The difficulties encountered in parenting, including that caused by children’s depravity, are best resolved through implementing biblical principles. In a society that is permissive and even positive toward the homosexual lifestyle, Christian parents should adopt eleven biblical goals in rearing their children. (1) They should do everything to reflect God and His glory. (2) They should help their children understand the gospel so that they receive salvation. (3) They should protect their children from physical and spiritual harm. (4) They should instruct their children in the truths of Scripture. (5) They should interpret Scripture so as to give their children a Christian worldview. (6) They should prepare their children for the responsibilities of adulthood. (7) They should prevent their children from falling to temptation by teaching them the consequences of sin. (8) They should correct any tendencies their children display toward sinful activities. (9) They should provide for the physical and spiritual needs of their children. (10) They should provide positive behavioral examples for their children to follow. (11) They should establish clear lines of communication with their children. These goals will help them deal with the same morally degenerate world as existed during NT times.

4. Cultural and Medical Myths about Homosexuality

Abstract: Three questions need to be answered regarding cultural and medical myths about homosexuality: (1) Is there a “gay gene”? In giving a positive answer, some sources cite two categories, nature and nurture. Behavioral genetics have sought and allegedly found a source for homosexuality, but many scientists have strong questions about behavioral genetics. Various studies have failed to prove conclusively that a “gay gene” exists. (2) Is it possible for a person to change sexual orientation from being homosexual to heterosexual? The current consensus in the mental health profession is that attempts to convert a homosexual to a heterosexual are too likely to be harmful. A possibility of change has been demonstrated, but worldwide consensus continues to view such a change as impossible because of biological and psychiatric factors. Studies by Spitzer and Jones/Yarhouse have identified examples of change without harm to individuals involved. (3) How have homosexual activists impacted modern cultures throughout the world? Various pieces of legislation, both national and international, have put at risk anyone who dares to oppose homosexuality. Even some ecclesiastical leaders have softened their tone in speaking against this sexual deviation.

5. The Source and NT Meaning of Arsenokoitai with Implications for Christian Ethics and Ministry

Abstract: Traditional interpretation of rsenokotai (arsenokoitai, “homosexuals”) in 1 Cor 6:9 and 1 Tim 1:10 refers to sexual vice between people of the same sex, specifically homosexuality. Some restrict the term’s meaning to “active male prostitute,” but stronger evidence supports a more general translation, namely “homosexuals.” More recently the definition “homosexual” has been opposed on cultural and linguistic grounds, the claim being that the term “homosexuals” is anachronistic. In addition, criticism of the traditional rendering says the term today includes celibate homophiles, excludes heterosexuals who engage in homosexual acts, and includes female homosexuals. A concern for acts instead of the modern attention to desires was the only factor in the ancient world. The foregoing opposition to the translation of arsenokoitai by “homosexuals” has a number of debilitating weaknesses. Finally, this study argues that Paul coined the term arsenokoitai, deriving it from the LXX of Lev 20:13 (cf. 18:22) and using it for homosexual orientation and behavior, the latter of which should be an occasion for church discipline (1 Corinthians 5-6) and legislation in society (1 Tim 1:8-11).

6. God Gave Them Up: A Study in Divine Retribution

Abstract: Isaiah speaks of the judgment inflicted by God’s wrath as His strange act and His strange work. The Pauline picture of human history in Rom 1:18–3:20 tells more about God’s judgment and why it is “strange.” His threefold use of paredôken tells of God’s giving mankind over to deserved punishment, which is more than a permissive divine action and more than a privative action—a withholding of common grace. It must be a judicial act of God in imposing His wrath on mankind. The devolution in human history is reflected in the more recent tendency of society to accept the sin of homosexuality and other sexual deviations as a mere sickness and not as sin. Civilizations throughout the world, particularly in the United States, are hurrying to their destruction by neglecting the righteousness of God in Christ, thus bringing on themselves the judgment of God as described in Rom 1:18–3:20. This is God’s temporal judgment which is preliminary to His eternal judgment on a rebellious human race. Retributive justice is an attribute of God and a necessary feature of His actions toward unbelieving humanity.

Where Is God Asking You to Take Him at His Word?

Taking God at His WordSo much of the Christian life comes down to this simple discipline: Taking God at his word. God speaks to me through the Bible and makes so many precious promises. The question is, will I believe, and will I obey? Will I take God at his word?

If I take 1 day out of every 7 and dedicate to it rest and to worship, will you still provide? Can I have confidence that I don’t need to work 7 days out of the week in order to survive? God says, “Consider the ravens: they neither sow nor reap, they have neither storehouse nor barn, and yet God feeds them. Of how much more value are you than the birds! Take me at my word.”

Have my sins really been forgiven? Am I actually blameless before the righteous Judge of all the universe. God says, “I have delivered you from the domain of darkness and transferred you to the kingdom of my beloved Son, in whom you have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. Take me at my word.”

If I refuse to succumb to this sexual temptation, if I walk away from the opportunity or refuse to give in to the desire, will you really satisfy? Can you actually satisfy? God says, “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from me, from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change. Take me at my word.”

Can God really use this painful situation for my good? Can he really bring beauty from these ashes? God says, “I work together all things for good, for those who are called according to my purpose. Take me at my word.”

Is salvation really all of grace? Isn’t there at least something I still need to earn? Isn’t there at least something I need to contribute? God says, “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. Take me at my word.”

Do I really need to stop this sin I enjoy so much? It’s such a little one and it brings me such joy. Does it really matter that much? God says, “If you love me you will keep my commandments. Take me at my word.”

Can I actually have confidence that I will not fall away from God? Can I have confidence that I will go to heaven? God says, “Be confident of this very thing, that I who have begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ. Take me at my word.”

The great enemy of the Christian is the sin of unbelief—the sin of refusing to accept what God says and the sin of refusing to do what God says. The great friend of the Christian is the joy of belief and the joy of obedience. Where is God asking you to simply take him at his word?

Six Major Barriers to Church Growth – Rainer on Leadership #151

On today’s episode, we discuss a recent post on what keeps churches from growing. While we cover the six main issues listed in the blog post, don’t miss the bonus at the end.

Some highlights from today’s episode include:

  • It’s much more difficult to lead a church to growth today than it was a few decades ago.
  • I don’t think most church leaders realize most attendance decline is due to less frequent attendance from members.
  • I love the theological resurgence we’ve seen in our churches.
  • Don’t be the leader who is so far out in front of your people that you’re mistaken for the enemy and get shot in the rear.
  • Conflict and disunity is a great Great Commission distraction.
  • Unresolved conflict in a church leads to disunity.
  • The most expensive church hire you’ll ever make is the wrong one.

The six reasons church growth is more difficult today are:

  1. Cultural Christians are much less likely to attend.
  2. More committed Christians are attending less frequently.
  3. An overcorrection to practical ministry.
  4. Activities replacing ministry.
  5. Growing conflict and disunity in congregations.
  6. Entitlement mentality among some church members.

Pray for God to Meet You

Pray for God to Meet YouWe learn to pray by reading the prayers in the Bible. This short series will look at David’s prayer in Psalm 141. In the first lab, John Piper asks why we pray for God to come. God is everywhere all the time, so what would it even mean for him to come to you today?

I am cautious about “pinning the tail” on the Antichrist and the False Prophet.  We cannot know ahead of time who these personalities are; however, Pope Francis comes close to “filling the bill” on the False Prophet. Or he may be but a “type” of that man just like there are many “types” of the Antichrist throughout history. I think the devil has always had a candidate for the Antichrist waiting in the wings as he doesn’t know when the final generation is.

The False Prophet is described in Revelation 13:11-15. He is also referred to as the “second beast” (Revelation 16:13, 19:20, 20:10). Together with the Antichrist and Satan, who empowers both of them, the False Prophet is the third party in the unholy trinity.
Pope Francis is revealing himself to be a blatant Marxist. He has also pulled back from issues Catholics have considered sacred. He apparently has replaced abortion with social justice and environmentalism. Most troubling, however, is his call for a “new world order” and that there be a global constitution, a global court and a one-world government. Scripture is clear that the Antichrist will be the head of a one-world government (Revelation 13).
Even conservative Catholics are sounding a warning that Pope Francis–the first Jesuit Pope–may be the most troubling Pope ever. He is raising apocalyptic concerns and some in the eschatological community feel that he, indeed, has gotten the nod to be the False Prophet.

Roger Oakland, a former Catholic, writes, “According to Bible prophecy, a one-world religion that will offer the promise of peace throughout the world is going to commence prior to Christ’s return. To most, this global body will seem like a wonderful thing and very possibly will be a pseudo-Christianity (coming in the Name of Christ); however, contrary to how the masses will view it, it will actually help establish and set up the Antichrist and his one-world government.”
He continues, “In order for this to happen, all religions must come together in an ecumenical plan. Today, as part of this Satanic scheme, the evangelical/Protestant church is being drawn seductively into the Roman Catholic Church, largely through what we call ‘the Jesuit agenda.’ Incredibly, while the evidence is obvious to some, the majority of proclaiming Christians are not at all aware it is happening.”

Oakland concludes, “So what should we expect if we are in the time when such a system unfolds? First, many who once were Protestant and Evangelical will become ecumenical. Second, all religions will unite in solidarity of purpose. Understanding the Jesuit agenda is essential if we are to understand how this worldwide deception will come about.”

“Understanding the Jesuit Agenda is essential if we are to understand how this worldwide deception will come about.”

Francis recently sent a video message to Kenneth Copeland urging reconciliation between Catholics and Charismatics, a move cheered by Copeland’s audience. The video’s introduction was delivered by a friend of Francis, Anglican Episcopal Bishop Tony Palmer, who told Copeland’s audience that “Catholic and Charismatic renewal is the hope of the Church.”  You can see some of that here.
Pope Francis is making a plea for the union of many faiths. He reportedly said recently, “Jesus Christ, Mohammed, Jehovah, Allah. These are all names employed to describe an entity that is distinctly the same across the world.” He opened the door to Muslim prayers at the Vatican.
Can you say one-world religion?
Pope Francis is headed for the White House, Congress, and the U.N. in a few weeks! He will be pushing climate change and “sustainable development” which is again all about global government! One has to wonder where he fits the gospel into his agenda. It doesn’t appear as though it does. One writer calls him a “wolf in Pope’s clothing.”
Put it all together: Marxism, environmentalism, new world order, global government, sustainable development, the Jesuit agenda, unity of faiths, a global constitution, a global court, a departure from Catholic traditions.
We live in interesting times. And the hour is very late.

Proposed minimum wage increases will lead to increased automation in restaurants

WINTERY KNIGHT

Basic economics: when you raise the price of something, people buy less of it Basic economics: when you raise the price of something, people buy less of it

This is from the leftist Washington Post, of all places. Not the place you would normally look for knowledge of basic economics.

Excerpt:

The [restaurant / fast food] industry could be ready for another jolt as a ballot initiative to raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour nears in the District and as other campaigns to boost wages gain traction around the country. About 30 percent of the restaurant industry’s costs come from salaries, so burger-flipping robots — or at least super-fast ovens that expedite the process — become that much more cost-competitive if the current federal minimum wage of $7.25 an hour is doubled.

“Weep with them that weep”
 –Romans 12:15

ONE leading difference between the system of ethics prescribed by the Stoics, and that inculcated by Christianity is, that whilst the former aims at eradicating the passions, the latter endeavors to regulate them, and direct them into their proper channels. The attempt of the first is as impracticable as is undesirable; the object of the last, is, by divine aid, in a good degree attainable, and in it consists much of the dignity, perfection, and happiness of man.

Sacred Balance

Unfathomable Grace

Many are they who are lazy. They are sluggards, and they are sinful. They could read in the book of Genesis how God created the perfect man to work as His image-bearer. They could then continue through the sacred text and read the will of God presented in the Fourth Commandment — a man ought to glorify and enjoy God by spending one-sixth of his time laboring on behalf of God and neighbor. The diligent one could then continue on to read God’s book of proverbial wisdom and be hit again and again with the fact that God condemns the slothful and commends the diligent. But frankly, such passive and self-indulgent  individuals will not read these texts and be moved to action. Why? Because they are too lazy to read, too lazy to repent, and too lazy to apply. All of this because they are too busy doing the least amount of work possible.

Friends, as we see ourselves…
