December 3, 2015 US and World Briefing Report

Dec. 3, 2015

The European Central Bank unveiled a range of measures to tackle too-low inflation, from a cut in the floor for interest rates to an expansion of its bond-buying program by at least 360 billion euros ($390 billion). The Frankfurt-based ECB will extend quantitative easing by six months until at least March 2017 at the current rate of 60 billion euros a month and broaden the assets purchased to include local and regional debt.

Applications for unemployment benefits in the U.S. rose last week, maintaining a see-saw pattern around four-decade lows that shows persistent strength in the labor market. Jobless claims climbed by 9,000 to 269,000 in the period ended Nov. 28.

The Brazilian economic crisis has finally hit the 2016 Olympics. Following a new round of cost-cutting by the Rio 2016 organizers, athletes will be asked to pay for the air conditioning in their dorm rooms. Stadium backdrops will be stripped to their bare essentials. Fancy cars and gourmet food for VIPs are out.

Cash-strapped OPEC nations from Venezuela to Iran are piling pressure on Saudi Arabia to reduce oil output, yet the group’s biggest producer remains opposed to a cut unless countries outside the organization join the effort.

Islamic State has released a video that claims to show the beheading of a Russian agent in Syria by a man speaking the language, the first time the terrorist group has released footage of such an execution, according to SITE, a U.S. research group that tracks jihadist sites.

The new world order is being fueled by Green propaganda
The 40,000 are in Paris not to honor the dead but to discuss strategies that will defeat the gravest threat ever to planet Earth: climate change. A reasonable person might think they would discuss the spread of ISIS or Turkey’s shooting down a Russian jet, an act that has put both the Kremlin and NATO on the road to war. Apparently, the most important task for world leaders is to plan strategies to defeat the weather at the U.N. climate change conference.

The Drought, In the Conference Room, With the AK-47
Geez, perhaps we really need a climate change agreement now. We have a terrible shooting in California at a Christmas Party. A group of Muslims were the shooters. It just has to be the California drought that led them to this. Clearly we have not rebuked terrorism enough and we need a stronger deal that forces everyone to give up their cars and electricity immediately.

Islamists Attack Christmas Party

By Mark Alexander

Barack Obama’s timing is impeccable.

As you recall, hours before the bloody Islamist attack in Paris three weeks ago, Obama offered these words of assurance regarding the metastasizing threat of the Islamic State’s terror campaign: “We have contained them.”

Apparently not.

Wednesday morning, Obama was asked in a CBS interview if an attack like the one in Paris could happen here. He responded: “We have to make sure that we keep a clear-eyed view about what needs to be done. ISIL is not going to pose an existential threat to us. … [O]ur homeland has never been more protected by more effective intelligence and law enforcement professionals at every level than [it is] now. If you look at the number of successful terrorist attacks that have occurred, you know, we have disrupted a lot of them…”

Apparently not.

Hours after that remark, two Islamists targeted an office Christmas party in San Bernardino, California, and murdered 14 people, wounding 17 others.

As for Obama’s claim about being safer now than ever, an hour before the attack yesterday, we published my column, “The Escalating Cost of Obama’s Foreign Policy Failures.” In that column, I refuted Obama’s absurd claim, and reiterated, “Make no mistake: The same sort of bloody mayhem we witnessed in Paris is coming to a homeland theater near you. Indeed, a timeline review of the frequency of Islamist attacks in the U.S. clearly shows a sharp increase beginning with Obama’s first year in office.”

Obama was asked about the California assault shortly after his CBS interview, prior to the apprehension and identification of the assailants. Unable to blame global warming for the California assault, predictably, Obama used the bodies of victims as a platform to advance his gun-control agenda, telling reporters, “There are some steps that we could take, not to eliminate every one of these mass shootings, but to improve the odds that they don’t happen as frequently — common sense safety laws.”

Actually not. California has some of the most restrictive gun laws in the nation (and even those don’t remotely equal the laws in France, where assailants used fully automatic weapons). And for the record, improvised explosive devices are easy to construct, and do a lot more damage than guns — as demonstrated in Paris.

While the details of yesterday’s Islamist assault are a bit clearer this morning, we thought you might want some perspective on how we analyzed this incident in real time, versus the 24-hour news folks at CNN and Fox. What follows are excerpts from my rolling analysis for our editorial team, followed by what we know now.

1645 (Eastern Time Zone): Astounding now, 2.5 hours after this assault, SBPD has not issued an official confirmation of how many assailants, what vehicle, etc. Fox and CNN ramble on with endless speculation about how many “shooters” and what vehicle.

1645: My LAPD contact confirms at least two assailants and black SUV. One assailant has an Arabic name — significant because this implies an organized assault and possible Islamist motive. As the MSM talkingheads continue with their claptrap, what none of them have said, but we all know for certain: This assault occurred in a “gun free zone.”

1745: CNN and Fox continued regurgitating the most inane garbage for the last 3.5 hours — stupid speculation about every aspect of assault. That’s totally disrespectful of the victims and their families. Dumbest remarks: “sending in a robotic robot” and a reference to “explosive bombs.” The only person who has less information than the MSM is the spokeswoman for the San Bernardino PD. Her statements are about an hour behind the handful of actual facts in the media coverage.

1915: LAPD contact confirms owner of vehicle is “Syed Farook” and second assailant not known. Still possible a third assailant. According to sources, assailant walked by a lot of people on the first floor, to target second floor meeting room, county employees at Christmas party. Clearly a connection between the assailant and the targeted group. Want to bet Obama turns this into “workplace violence” because of religious intolerance? Bad Christians intolerant of Muslim coworker?

2045: SBPD finally confirms two assailants dead, one suspect detained. LA FBI ASAC all but confirms “terrorism.” Name of assailant might be a clue… CNN braying jackass Don Lemon and “psychological expert” insists this attack fits Obama’s “mentally ill gunman” narrative, regardless of religion of assailant. Insists more gun control is the solution.

This morning, here’s more of what we know:

Fourteen people were murdered at a San Bernardino Christmas party by two people armed with handguns and semiautomatic rifles, a.k.a. “assault weapons,” as the Leftmedia nefariously dubs them.

The attack was the deadliest since 27 were murdered in Newtown, Connecticut in 2012. The Leftmedia, meanwhile, is hysterically reporting that it’s the 355th mass shooting this year. Their source? A small group of anti-gun malcontents running a propaganda website that purports to tally such incidents. To inflate the numbers, the group includes, for example, incidents involving pellet guns. Fully a third of the shootings they count left no one dead, and many of the others are gang-related.

Yesterday’s attackers were killed after a police chase, and identified as Syed Rizwan Farook and Tashfeen Malik. As you may have guessed by reading their names, they were Muslim. They were also married. Farook was a health inspector for the San Bernardino County Department of Public Health, which was hosting the party the perpetrators targeted.

“He was very religious,” Farook’s father said of his son. “He would go to work, come back, go to pray, come back. He’s Muslim.” Farook traveled to Saudi Arabia recently and began growing out his beard, which may signify religious observance. And a couple wouldn’t leave their six-month-old child with Farook’s mother to undertake what would almost certainly be a suicide-by-cop mission without a greater motivation.

The two had bombs and other such items at their home, and the tactical gear they used in the attack indicates planning, certainly not the Obama administration’s favorite standby, “workplace violence.”

Indeed, in a press conference this morning, Obama insisted, “We don’t know why they did it. … We do not know their motivations.” But he then launched his preferred assessment: “It is also possible this is workplace related.” He repeated that claim multiple times, along with references to “mass shootings” to keep the focus on weapons, rather than “mass murder,” keeping the focus on assailants. He concluded, “We see the prevalence of these kinds of mass shooting in this country. … We all have a part to play. … It’s going to be important for all of us — including the legislatures — to see what we can do.”

Notably, Obama did not mention the most relevant fact in terms of motive — the fact the assailants were Muslim.

Clinton Calls for Investigation Into Chicago PD

Wannabe elected official Hillary Clinton called for the federal government to investigate the Chicago Police Department after there were protests over the death of Laquan McDonald, who was killed by police in October 2014. The protests were sparked by the release of a video showing Chicago officers shooting the 17-year-old 16 times. It was released during the trial for the officer who fired the shots. Clinton spokesman Brian Fallon said in a statement, “Hillary Clinton is deeply troubled by the shooting of Laquan McDonald and the outstanding questions related to both the shooting and the video.” In making the statement, Clinton, currently only a U.S. citizen seeking the limelight, is trying to bolster her credibility with Black Lives Matter protesters. What is unique about Clinton’s newest position is that she burned one of her own supporters to do so. The Wall Street Journal notes that Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel worked as a staffer in the Bill Clinton administration and he, at least up until this week, supported Clinton. This is a way for her to distance herself from Barack Obama’s platform, and try to become a more attractive candidate for supporters of the Black Lives Matter movement, a potential constituency she insulted in August. This happened even though Emanuel (who, interestingly, planned on taking his family to Cuba for a holiday vacation) fired his police superintendent the day before. He’s just one more political casualty on Clinton’s scramble for power. Clinton advisers like Sidney Blumenthal should beware.

Long War Update: Whose Side Are We On?

Among the many consequences for Barack Obama’s myriad foreign policy screw-ups comes this tidbit from The Washington Post: “Iraqis think the U.S. is in cahoots with the Islamic State, and it is hurting the war.” Such charges are “beyond ridiculous,” insists Col. Steve Warren, the military’s Baghdad-based spokesman. “There’s clearly no one in the West who buys it, but unfortunately, this is something that a segment of the Iraqi population believes.” Perhaps it’s because Obama gives that impression, not only casting aside American blood and treasure, but reportedly having military units warn Islamic State oil transport drivers before bombing their trucks.

Charles Krauthammer observed, “The chairman of the joint chiefs was asked whether he considers the drivers of the oil trucks by ISIS — the ones who export it — as combatants, and he said, ‘No, they’re civilians, trying to feed their families.’ And that’s why we actually dropped leaflets warning the drivers three-quarters of an hour before any air strikes. This is a joke and it comes not from the Pentagon, it comes from the White House. This has not been a serious air war and all the promises … are a joke as long as this president is commander-in-chief.” Just so, and the average Iraqi can hardly be blamed for hearing rumors of such events and believing that the U.S. is supporting the terrorists.

Bill Nye Tells Another Whopper of a Lie

As hard as it sounds, someone actually managed to outperform Barack Obama for stupidest comment award at the UN climate summit. Bill Nye, who’s commonly known as “The Science Guy” — or “The Science Lie” in our humble shop — spewed more pompous rhetoric in an interview with the Huffington Post. “It’s very reasonable,” he asserted, “that the recent trouble in Paris is a result of climate change.”

“There’s water shortage in Syria, this is fact-based,” Nye went on to explain. “Small and medium farmers have abandoned their farms because there’s not enough water, not enough rainfall. And especially the young people who have not grown up there, have not had their whole lives invested in living off the land, the young people have gone to the big cities looking for work. There’s not enough work for everybody, so the disaffected youths … are more easily engaged and more easily recruited by terrorist organizations, and then they end up part way around the world in Paris shooting people.”

“You can say, ‘Well stamp out the terrorists,'” he concluded. “But if everybody’s leaving their farms because of water shortages, that’s a little bigger problem.”

This isn’t the first time Nye’s made ridiculous surmises. This is the same person who last November blamed anomalous lake-effect snowfall on climate change, absurdly suggesting: “Everybody, when Lake Erie’s warmer, more water evaporates into the air and it snows more. I don’t make the rules, people.” Only Lake Erie was sitting at four degrees below average at the time. Oops. Just two months later, in January 2015, he again blamed a major nor’easter on man-made global warming without a shred of evidence.

Any rational scientists knows that long-term precipitation patterns naturally fluctuate. What does Nye believe is driving Boko Haram, the Nigerian terrorist group whose country has been abnormally wet for the last two decades? But that’s the problem — he’s not a rational scientist. As meteorologist Joe Bastardi recently opined, “[T]he fact is [Nye] is not a man of science. He is an actor. That is his profession.” As are most politicians. And so far, they are doing a terrible job convincing the public that global warming is “our greatest national security threat.” And with comments like these, it’s no wonder.

Jonah Goldberg: “The Obama administration often warns that insulting Islam … can invite a terrorist backlash and help Islamists win new recruits. Question: If Islamic terrorism has nothing to do with Islam, why would insulting Islam invite more terrorism? As secretary of State, Clinton worked assiduously to cast the attack on our compound in Benghazi, Libya, as nothing more than the reaction to an Internet video. After the recent Paris attacks, her successor momentarily admitted that he thought the terror attacks on the French satirical weekly Charlie Hebdo earlier this year had ‘legitimacy.’ Kerry quickly corrected himself, saying that the attacks weren’t actually legitimate but that he could still see the ‘rationale’ behind them. You will be hard-pressed to find any such rush to understanding when it comes to the so-called Christian terrorism in Colorado. And that’s because progressives, from the president down, are much more comfortable talking about the threat posed by the white Christian Americans who happen to vote Republican and oppose Planned Parenthood than they are discussing the threat from people determined to kill Americans.”

And there are some steps that we could take, not to eliminate every one of these mass shootings, but to improve the odds that they don’t happen as frequently — common sense safety laws, stronger background checks. And for those who are concerned about terrorism, some may be aware of the fact that we have a no-fly list where people can’t get on planes, but those same people who we don’t allow to fly could go into a store right now in the United States and buy a firearm and there’s nothing that we can do to stop them. “We should never think that this is something that just happens in the ordinary course of events, because it doesn’t happen with the same frequency in other countries.” —Barack Obama (Thanks to his policies, mass shootings everywhere, like we recently saw in Paris, will increase in frequency.)

“Yo GOP, kinda hard to talk about ‘keeping people safe’ when your peeps are shooting up America.” —Daily Kos founder Markos Moulitsas

“Horrifying news out of #SanBernardino. Enough is enough: it’s time to stand up to the @NRA and enact meaningful gun safety laws.” —Martin O’Malley

And last… “When Robert Dear kills people, blame goes to all pro-life conservatives. When Syed Farook kills people, it’s the fault of the NRA.” —Twitter satirist @hale_razor

Obama’s ISIS Oil Scandal Deepens As Russia Produces Stunning Photographic Evidence

ISIS Oil Going Into Turkey - Photo from the General Staff Of The Russian Armed ForcesHow is Barack Obama going to get out of this one? On Tuesday, the Russian military produced an impressive array of evidence that clearly shows that ISIS oil is being smuggled into Turkey on an industrial scale. The evidence included photographs taken by satellite and during aerial reconnaissance missions. What the Russians have shown the world is extremely compelling, and it raises some very disturbing questions. First of all, how involved is the Turkish government in all of this? There is no way in the world that an endless parade of trucks carrying ISIS oil could have marched through Turkish border checkpoints without the cooperation of the central government. Secondly, what did Obama know and when did he know it? The U.S. military has far better surveillance capabilities than the Russians do, and so it seems absolutely absurd to suggest that Obama didn’t know what was going on. (Read More…)

Donald Trump Dares To Say That Turkey ‘Looks Like They’re On The Side Of ISIS’

Donald Trump - Photo by Gage Skidmore on FlickrDonald Trump just said something that he was not supposed to say, and it is something that Barack Obama will never admit. During an appearance on Sirius XM’s “Breitbart News Daily” on Tuesday morning, Trump stated that the Turkish government “looks like they’re on the side of ISIS more or less based on the oil”. This makes Trump the first presidential candidate to tell the truth about this to the American people. By now, just about everyone knows that ISIS is using Turkey as a home base, and I have previously written about how Turkey is “training ISIS militants, funneling weapons to them, buying their oil, and tending to their wounded in Turkish hospitals”. But a major U.S. politician, especially one running for the White House, could get into really hot water for saying these kinds of things about our NATO ally. You see, the truth is that the American people are not supposed to know that Turkey is actually on the same side as ISIS and has been facilitating the sale of hundreds of millions of dollars of oil that has been stolen by ISIS. Alarm Bells Go Off As 11 Critical Indicators Scream The Global Economic Crisis Is Getting Deeper

Alarm Clock - Public DomainEconomic activity is slowing down all over the planet, and a whole host of signs are indicating that we are essentially exactly where we were just prior to the great stock market crash of 2008.  Yesterday, I explained that the economies of Japan, Brazil, Canada and Russia are all in recession.  Today, I am mainly going to focus on the United States.  We are seeing so many things happen right now that we have not seen since 2008 and 2009.  In so many ways, it is almost as if we are watching an eerie replay of what happened the last time around, and yet most of the “experts” still appear to be oblivious to what is going on.  If you were to make up a checklist of all of the things that you would expect to see just before a major stock market crash, virtually all of them are happening right now.  The following are 11 critical indicators that are absolutely screaming that the global economic crisis is getting deeper… (Read More….)

Global Crisis: Goldman Sachs Says That Brazil Has Plunged Into ‘An Outright Depression’

Global RecessionOne of the most important banks in the western world says that the 7th largest economy on the entire planet has entered a full-blown economic depression.  Brazil’s economy has now contracted for three quarters in a row, and many analysts believe that things are going to get far worse before they have a chance to get any better.  Earlier this year, I warned about “the South American financial crisis of 2015“, and now it is in full swing.  The surging U.S. dollar is absolutely crushing emerging markets such as Brazil, and if the Fed raises interest rates this month that is going to make the pain even worse.  The global financial system is more interconnected than ever before, and the decisions made by the Federal Reserve truly do have global consequences.  So much of the “hot money” that was created by the Fed poured into emerging markets such as Brazil during the good times, but now the process is starting to reverse itself.  At this point, it is hard to see how much of South America is going to avoid a complete and total economic disaster. California Shooting: The Debate Starts Here

Republican candidates initially offered prayers for the victims and their families, as well as law-enforcement officers in harm’s way. At a speaking engagement, Ben Carson pointedly asked, “What happened to our country? Where did that come from? I will tell you where it did not come from. It did not come from our Judeo-Christian values. It came from something else.”

British airstrikes hit Islamic State oil fields, aim to deal ‘Real Blow’

Posted: 03 Dec 2015 07:09 AM PST

British warplanes hit oil fields that help finance the activities of the Islamic State in Britain’s first airstrikes following a vote in Parliament that authorized military action in Syria, its defense secretary said Thursday. Defense Secretary Michael Fallon told BBC that the Omar fields in eastern Syria were targeted to strike “a very real blow at the oil and the revenue” on which ISIS depends. The strikes came within hours of Parliament’s vote to attack the terror group.

Fallon confirmed that eight more jets were on the way to Britain’s base in Cyprus to join attacks and warned that military action against ISIS should be expected to continue for years to come. Four Royal Air Force Tornadoes took off from a British air base in Akrotiri, Cyprus, shortly after the 397-223 vote by lawmakers in the House of Commons. The RAF has been launching airstrikes against ISIS in Iraq since 2014. The decision to expand the campaign to Syria came after an emotional 10 1/2-hour debate in which Prime Minister David Cameron said that Britain must strike the militants in their heartland and not “sit back and wait for them to attack us.” READ MORE

Kremlin says NATO expansion to east will lead to retaliation from Russia

Posted: 03 Dec 2015 06:22 AM PST

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Wednesday that the continuing expansion of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation to the east would lead to retaliatory measures from Russia. The NATO military alliance on Wednesday invited Montenegro to join its ranks.

Peskov added to journalists that the sanctions that Russia had imposed on Turkey over a downed Russian plane were different from the ones the West had imposed on Russia over the Ukraine crisis, since Russia’s sanctions on Turkey were preventative and concerned the threat of terrorism. SOURCE

ISIS in Libya training to fly planes

Posted: 03 Dec 2015 06:16 AM PST

The Islamic State is training to fly planes in its stronghold in the northern coastal city of Sirte, an Arab newspaper reported on Wednesday. The terrorist group is using at least one flight simulator, which may have been seized from the country’s airports, according to Libyan military sources quoted in the Asharq al-Awsat report. “It’s a modern simulator, which may have arrived from abroad,” other sources stated.

A senior unnamed official, whose job is to track Islamic State activity in the country, told the newspaper that there is intelligence about their fighters training to fly civilian planes. The source added that the Libyan air force unsuccessfully attempted to take out at least one base where this training is occurring. The Islamic State in Libya has between 2,000 and 3,000 fighters and is the only affiliate known to have received support and guidance from the extremist group’s stronghold in Syria and Iraq, said UN experts who monitor Islamic State and al Qaida-linked groups for the UN Security Council. CLIMATE CONTROL! Now Scientists Say Climate Change Will Trigger Rise In “Terrifying Illness”

Posted: 03 Dec 2015 06:06 AM PST

As if rising sea levels, extreme weather and a host of other drastic environmental impacts weren’t enough, scientists are now predicting that global climate change will lead to an increase in ciguatera — a nasty and incurable foodborne illness. Ciguatera is caused by eating tropical reef fish (such as grouper, snapper and barracuda) that have been contaminated with toxins from marine microalgae. It can result in nausea, vomiting and even some neurologic symptoms, including tingling fingers or toes and a reversed sense of hot and cold temperatures.

In a new study published in the journal Ecological Modeling, researchers with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration found that expected increases in ocean temperatures in the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean through 2099 will likely lead to far more abundant and more diverse neurotoxins associated with ciguatera fish poisoning. The forecast is part of a larger effort to develop and implement strategies for managing the risk of the illness, NOAA said in a release. Marine in hot water for ‘Star-Spangled Banner’ at Trump rally

Posted: 03 Dec 2015 05:52 AM PST

A U.S. Marine who sang the “The Star-Spangled Banner” at a recent Donald Trump campaign rally is in hot water with military brass. Cpl. Jason Perkins, a reservist with Combat Logistics Battalion 451 out of Charlotte, North Carolina, belted out a rendition of the national anthem that went viral just before Thanksgiving. The Marine, who was in uniform at the time, was one of many attendees at a Birmingham, Alabama, event Nov. 1.

“Cpl. Perkins is now aware that his conduct violated long-standing DoD policy. [He] has been informed of the appropriate ways to participate in the political process as a member of the Marine Corps,” Marine Forces Reserve spokesman Capt. Andrew Chrestman said Dec. 1 in an email to Military.com. The Department of Defense forbids Marines from attending political events in uniform. The rule is defined in DoD Directive 1344.10, which the Marine Forces Reserve reiterated on its Facebook page Nov. 25. READ MORE

Newspaper mocks GOP for prayers following massacre, “God Isn’t Fixing This”!

Newspaper mocks GOP for prayers following massacre, "God Isn't Fixing This"! The New York Daily News couldn’t be blunter in its characterization of those in the Republican Party who turned to prayer after the San Bernardino shooting, rather than gun control, blasting out a headline that basically read: relying on God was stupid. The newspaper’s front page contained a headline in huge font that read, in all caps: “GOD ISN’T FIXING THIS.” Above, it read: “14 dead in California mass shooting.” Beneath, it read:

“As latest batch of innocent Americans are left dead, cowards who could truly end gun scourge continue to hide behind meaningless platitudes.” And what were those “meaningless platitudes?” Alongside the borders of the front page, the New York Daily News ran images of portions four Republican leadership tweets. From Sen. Lindsey Graham, who’s seeking the presidency: “Thoughts and prayers are with …” From House Speaker Paul Ryan: “Please keep the victims of #SanBernardino, California in your prayers.” READ MORE

The Irrelevant Majority – When The Minority Rule The World

Posted: 03 Dec 2015 05:38 AM PST

A constant refrain when discussing issues of radical Islam is that the overwhelming majority of Muslims is not radicalized. I agree completely. Even recently-published Pew research validates this point of view. The majority of Muslims in Muslim dominated countries does not support ISIS; they believe them to be an abhorrence. Almost all Western intelligence agencies support this picture up. Intelligence agencies are unanimous in their estimates that anywhere from 15 – 25% of Muslims worldwide are radicalized. That means there are between 180 – 300 million radicalized Muslim men and women in the world today. Therefore, it is quite right to point out that 75% of the Muslim Uma (Brotherhood) are not radicalized. An overwhelming majority.

The issue however is this; our world is increasingly beset by a new type of terrorism which is defined and characterized by horrors. Simply being appalled by ISIS is no longer enough, especially if they claim to be a part of the same faith. That the overwhelming majority of Muslims abhor ISIS is inconsequential because, in this case, the majority is proving to be completely irrelevant. During the 1930’s in Germany only a small minority of people were fully signed up members of the Nazi Party. Only a small number of disenfranchised ex-soldiers were with Hitler from the very beginning of his ascension to power, whilst he was agitating in the Beer Halls of Munich. Only a tiny minority of men such as Hess, Himmler and Goering followed him and watched his every move from the very beginning. READ MORE

Our Time is Short

Read: Recommitting Your Life To God and Jesus Christ – Restoration and Forgiveness With God and Jesus Christ (Updated Version)

What is The Gospel?

God made everything out of nothing, including you and me. His main purpose in creation was to bring him pleasure.

The chief way in which we as humanity do this is through loving, obeying, and enjoying him perfectly.

Instead of this, we have sinned against our loving Creator and acted in high-handed rebellion.

God has vowed that he will righteously and lovingly judge sinners with eternal death.

But God, being merciful, loving, gracious, and just, sent his own son, Jesus Christ, in the likeness of man to live as a man; fulfilling his perfect requirements in the place of sinners; loving, obeying, and enjoying him perfectly.

And further, his son bore the eternal judgment of God upon the cross of Calvary, as he satisfied the eternal anger of God, standing in the place of sinners. God treated Jesus as a sinner, though he was perfectly sinless, that he might declare sinners as perfect.

This glorious transaction occurs as the sinner puts their faith (dependence, trust) in the Lord Jesus Christ as their substitute. God then charges Christ’s perfection to the sinner, and no longer views him as an enemy but instead an adopted son covered in the perfect righteousness of his son.

God furnished proof that this sacrifice was accepted by raising Jesus from the dead.

God will judge the world in righteousness and all of those who are not covered in the righteousness of Christ, depending on him for forgiveness, will be forced to stand on their own to bear the eternal anger of God.

Therefore, all must turn from sin and receive Christ Jesus as Lord.

What Is the Gospel?

There is no greater message to be heard than that which we call the gospel. But as important as that is, it is often given to massive distortions or over simplifications. People think they’re preaching the gospel to you when they tell you, ‘you can have a purpose to your life’, or that ‘you can have meaning to your life’, or that ‘you can have a personal relationship with Jesus.’ All of those things are true, and they’re all important, but they don’t get to the heart of the gospel.

The gospel is called the ‘good news’ because it addresses the most serious problem that you and I have as human beings, and that problem is simply this: God is holy and He is just, and I’m not. And at the end of my life, I’m going to stand before a just and holy God, and I’ll be judged. And I’ll be judged either on the basis of my own righteousness–or lack of it –or the righteousness of another. The good news of the gospel is that Jesus lived a life of perfect righteousness, of perfect obedience to God, not for His own well being but for His people. He has done for me what I couldn’t possibly do for myself. But not only has He lived that life of perfect obedience, He offered Himself as a perfect sacrifice to satisfy the justice and the righteousness of God.

The great misconception in our day is this: that God isn’t concerned to protect His own integrity. He’s a kind of wishy-washy deity, who just waves a wand of forgiveness over everybody. No. For God to forgive you is a very costly matter. It cost the sacrifice of His own Son. So valuable was that sacrifice that God pronounced it valuable by raising Him from the dead – so that Christ died for us, He was raised for our justification. So the gospel is something objective. It is the message of who Jesus is and what He did. And it also has a subjective dimension. How are the benefits of Jesus subjectively appropriated to us? How do I get it? The Bible makes it clear that we are justified not by our works, not by our efforts, not by our deeds, but by faith–and by faith alone. The only way you can receive the benefit of Christ’s life and death is by putting your trust in Him–and in Him alone. You do that, you’re declared just by God, you’re adopted into His family, you’re forgiven of all of your sins, and you have begun your pilgrimage for eternity.

The Gospel on 5 Fingers

If you picked up a hitchhiker (not that I recommend doing that) and he saw a Bible on your car seat and said, “I’ve heard about this thing called the Gospel – can you explain it to me before you drop me off in one minute up the street?” What would you say?

Can you explain the gospel in 30 seconds? In one minute? In five minutes?

Here’s one way I have found helpful. The five main components of the gospel can be remembered on 5 fingers of one hand. Here they are:

1) Jesus’ birth
2) Jesus’ life
3) Jesus’ death
4) Jesus’ resurrection
5) Jesus’ ascension

Obviously each point can be elaborated on depending on how much time you have. Here’s the short version:

1) Jesus’ birth – Jesus, God himself, the creator of the universe, the Messiah, became a human being – took on flesh, and was born of a virgin.

2) Jesus’ life – Jesus lived a life of perfect obedience to his Father. Though he was tempted in every way as we are, he never once sinned.

3) Jesus’ death – on the cross, Jesus himself took all our sins and paid for them. God the father counted all our sins to Jesus as if he himself had personally committed them. Then Jesus bore God’s wrath towards sin – the punishment we deserved – as a substitute for us.

4) Jesus’ resurrection – within 3 days, Jesus rose physically from the dead, proving that his sacrifice for sins have been accepted by God, since the punishment for sin was death. Jesus was seen by numerous people after he rose including 500 at one time (1 Corinthians 15).

5) Jesus’ ascension – Jesus ascended physically into heaven where he reigns as King of kings and Lord of lords. And someday he will return to the earth.

That’s the gospel, the good news, and if we believe in Jesus Christ and this good news and call upon him he will save us from our sins and give us eternal life.

That’s a simple way to remember the gospel – five fingers. Even a child can do it. So ask God to give you opportunities to share his good news today.

Ready to start your new life with God?

Who do you think that I am?

With that brief question Jesus Christ confronted His followers with the most important issue they would ever face. He had spent much time with them and made some bold claims about His identity and authority. Now the time had come for them either to believe or deny His teachings.

Who do you say Jesus is? Your response to Him will determine not only your values and lifestyle, but your eternal destiny as well.

Robert Gagnon debates gay activist Jayne Ozanne on Bible vs homosexuality

I am tempted to say that this is the best podcast I have ever heard on the Unbelievable show. Do anything you have to do in order to listen to this podcast.

Prof Robert Gagnon has become a well-known voice advocating the traditional biblical view on sexuality. In a highly charged show he debates the scriptural issues on sexuality with Jayne Ozanne, the director of Accepting Evangelicals who came out as gay earlier this year.
