Enemies Within

Communists, Marxists, Islamists and other radical subversives are gutting the United States from within, by embedding themselves into every level of our governments, intelligence agencies, and military positions. They are working in concert with the same goal in mind: to bring America to her knees and destroy us once and for all.

What is The Gospel?

God made everything out of nothing, including you and me. His main purpose in creation was to bring him pleasure.

The chief way in which we as humanity do this is through loving, obeying, and enjoying him perfectly.

Instead of this, we have sinned against our loving Creator and acted in high-handed rebellion.

God has vowed that he will righteously and lovingly judge sinners with eternal death.

But God, being merciful, loving, gracious, and just, sent his own son, Jesus Christ, in the likeness of man to live as a man; fulfilling his perfect requirements in the place of sinners; loving, obeying, and enjoying him perfectly.

And further, his son bore the eternal judgment of God upon the cross of Calvary, as he satisfied the eternal anger of God, standing in the place of sinners. God treated Jesus as a sinner, though he was perfectly sinless, that he might declare sinners as perfect.

This glorious transaction occurs as the sinner puts their faith (dependence, trust) in the Lord Jesus Christ as their substitute. God then charges Christ’s perfection to the sinner, and no longer views him as an enemy but instead an adopted son covered in the perfect righteousness of his son.

God furnished proof that this sacrifice was accepted by raising Jesus from the dead.

God will judge the world in righteousness and all of those who are not covered in the righteousness of Christ, depending on him for forgiveness, will be forced to stand on their own to bear the eternal anger of God.

Therefore, all must turn from sin and receive Christ Jesus as Lord.

What Is the Gospel?

There is no greater message to be heard than that which we call the gospel. But as important as that is, it is often given to massive distortions or over simplifications. People think they’re preaching the gospel to you when they tell you, ‘you can have a purpose to your life’, or that ‘you can have meaning to your life’, or that ‘you can have a personal relationship with Jesus.’ All of those things are true, and they’re all important, but they don’t get to the heart of the gospel.

The gospel is called the ‘good news’ because it addresses the most serious problem that you and I have as human beings, and that problem is simply this: God is holy and He is just, and I’m not. And at the end of my life, I’m going to stand before a just and holy God, and I’ll be judged. And I’ll be judged either on the basis of my own righteousness–or lack of it –or the righteousness of another. The good news of the gospel is that Jesus lived a life of perfect righteousness, of perfect obedience to God, not for His own well being but for His people. He has done for me what I couldn’t possibly do for myself. But not only has He lived that life of perfect obedience, He offered Himself as a perfect sacrifice to satisfy the justice and the righteousness of God.

The great misconception in our day is this: that God isn’t concerned to protect His own integrity. He’s a kind of wishy-washy deity, who just waves a wand of forgiveness over everybody. No. For God to forgive you is a very costly matter. It cost the sacrifice of His own Son. So valuable was that sacrifice that God pronounced it valuable by raising Him from the dead – so that Christ died for us, He was raised for our justification. So the gospel is something objective. It is the message of who Jesus is and what He did. And it also has a subjective dimension. How are the benefits of Jesus subjectively appropriated to us? How do I get it? The Bible makes it clear that we are justified not by our works, not by our efforts, not by our deeds, but by faith–and by faith alone. The only way you can receive the benefit of Christ’s life and death is by putting your trust in Him–and in Him alone. You do that, you’re declared just by God, you’re adopted into His family, you’re forgiven of all of your sins, and you have begun your pilgrimage for eternity.

The Gospel In A Nutshell

Now, with regard to this rule of faith—that we may from this point acknowledge what it is which we defend—it is, you must know, that which prescribes the belief that there is one only God, and that He is none other than the Creator of the world, who produced all things out of nothing through His own Word, first of all sent forth; that this Word is called His Son, and, under the name of God, was seen “in diverse manners” by the patriarchs, heard at all times in the prophets, at last brought down by the Spirit and Power of the Father into the Virgin Mary, was made flesh in her womb, and, being born of her, went forth as Jesus Christ; thenceforth He preached the new law and the new promise of the kingdom of heaven, worked miracles; having been crucified, He rose again the third day; (then) having ascended into the heavens, He sat at the right hand of the Father; sent instead of Himself the Power of the Holy Ghost to lead such as believe; will come with glory to take the saints to the enjoyment of everlasting life and of the heavenly promises, and to condemn the wicked to everlasting fire, after the resurrection of both these classes shall have happened, together with the restoration of their flesh. This rule, as it will be proved, was taught by Christ, and raises amongst ourselves no other questions than those which heresies introduce, and which make men heretics.

What Is the Gospel?

This post is adapted from the tract “What Is the Gospel?” by Greg Gilbert.

A Message from God

What exactly do Christians mean when they talk about the “gospel of Jesus Christ”? Since the word “gospel” means “good news,” when Christians talk about the gospel, they’re simply telling the good news about Jesus! It’s a message from God saying, “Good news! Here is how you can be saved from my judgment!” That’s an announcement you can’t afford to ignore.

Why Is the Gospel Good News?

So, what is the good news about Jesus Christ?

Since the earliest Christians announced the good news about Jesus, it has been organized around these questions:

  1. Who made us, and to whom are we accountable?
  2. What is our problem?
  3. What is God’s solution to our problem?
  4. How can I be included in his solution?

Christians through the centuries since Christ have answered those questions with the same truth from the Bible.

  1. We are accountable to God.
  2. Our problem is our sin against him.
  3. God’s solution is salvation through Jesus Christ.
  4. We come to be included in that salvation by faith and repentance.

Let’s summarize those points like this: God, Mankind, Jesus Christ, and Our Response.

The first thing to know about the good news of Jesus is that “in the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth” (Gen. 1:1). Everything starts from that point, so if you get that point wrong then everything else that follows will be wrong. Because God created everything—including us—he has the right to tell us how to live. You have to understand that in order to understand the good news about Jesus. To understand just how glorious and life-giving the gospel of Jesus Christ is, we have to understand that God is also holy and righteous. He is determined never to ignore or tolerate sin. Including ours!

When God created the first human beings, Adam and Eve, he intended for them to live under his righteous rule in perfect joy—obeying him and living in fellowship with him. When Adam disobeyed God, though, and ate the one fruit that God had told him not to eat, that fellowship with God was broken. Moreover, Adam and Eve had declared rebellion against God. They were denying his authority over their lives.

It’s not just Adam and Eve who are guilty of sin. The Bible says, “All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). Sin is the rejection of God himself and his authority over those to whom he gives life.

Once you understand sin in that light, you begin to understand why “the wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23). That’s not just physical death, but spiritual death, a forceful separating of our sinful, rebellious selves from the presence of God forever. The Bible teaches that the final destiny for unbelieving sinners is eternal, active judgment in a place called “hell.”

But . . .

Jesus Christ

The word “Christ” means “anointed one,” referring to anointing a king with oil when he is crowned. So, when we say “Jesus Christ,” we’re saying that Jesus is a King!

When Jesus began his public ministry, he told the people, “The kingdom of God is at hand. Repent and believe the good news!” As Jesus died on a cross, the awful weight of all our sins fell on his shoulders. The sentence of death God had pronounced against rebellious sinners struck. And Jesus died. For you and me!

But the story doesn’t end there. Jesus the Crucified is no longer dead. The Bible tells us that he rose from the grave. Jesus’s rising from the grave was God’s way of saying, “What Jesus claimed about who he is and what he came to do is true!”

Our Response

What does God expect us to do with the information that Jesus died in our place so we can be saved from God’s righteous wrath against our sins? He expects us to respond with repentance and faith.

To repent of our sins means to turn away from our rebellion against God. Repentance doesn’t mean we’ll bring an immediate end to our sinning. It does mean, though, that we’ll never again live at peace with our sins.

Not only that, but we also turn to God in faith. Faith is reliance. It’s a promise-founded trust in the risen Jesus to save you from your sins. If God is ever to count us righteous, he’ll have to do it on the basis of someone else’s record, someone who’s qualified to stand in as our substitute. And that’s what happens when a person is saved by Jesus: All our sins are credited to Jesus who took the punishment for them, and the perfect righteousness of Jesus is then credited to us when we place our trust in what he has done for us! That’s what faith means—to rely on Jesus, to trust in him alone to stand in our place and win a righteous verdict from God!

Ravi Zacharias explains the gospel in two minutes:

The Gospel on 5 Fingers

Can you explain the gospel in 30 seconds? In one minute? In five minutes? Here’s one way I have found helpful. The five main components of the gospel can be remembered on 5 fingers of one hand. Here they are:

1) Jesus’ birth
2) Jesus’ life
3) Jesus’ death
4) Jesus’ resurrection
5) Jesus’ ascension

Obviously each point can be elaborated on depending on how much time you have. Here’s the short version:

1) Jesus’ birth – Jesus, God himself, the creator of the universe, the Messiah, became a human being – took on flesh, and was born of a virgin.

2) Jesus’ life – Jesus lived a life of perfect obedience to his Father. Though he was tempted in every way as we are, he never once sinned.

3) Jesus’ death – on the cross, Jesus himself took all our sins and paid for them. God the father counted all our sins to Jesus as if he himself had personally committed them. Then Jesus bore God’s wrath towards sin – the punishment we deserved – as a substitute for us.

4) Jesus’ resurrection – within 3 days, Jesus rose physically from the dead, proving that his sacrifice for sins have been accepted by God, since the punishment for sin was death. Jesus was seen by numerous people after he rose including 500 at one time (1 Corinthians 15).

5) Jesus’ ascension – Jesus ascended physically into heaven where he reigns as King of kings and Lord of lords. And someday he will return to the earth.

That’s the gospel, the good news, and if we believe in Jesus Christ and this good news and call upon him he will save us from our sins and give us eternal life.

That’s a simple way to remember the gospel – five fingers. Even a child can do it. So ask God to give you opportunities to share his good news today.

Ready to start your new life with God?

Who do you think that I am?

With that brief question Jesus Christ confronted His followers with the most important issue they would ever face. He had spent much time with them and made some bold claims about His identity and authority. Now the time had come for them either to believe or deny His teachings.

Who do you say Jesus is? Your response to Him will determine not only your values and lifestyle, but your eternal destiny as well.

The Perseverance (Security) of the Saints

Notice all the Scripture references!

It is not just a handful of texts that teach the perseverance of the saints: the entire gospel sustains and confirms it. The Father has chosen them before the foundation of the world (Eph. 1:4), ordained them to eternal life (Acts 13:48), to be conformed to the image of his Son (Rom. 8:29). This election stands (Rom. 9:11; Heb. 6:17) and in due time carries with it the calling and justification and glorification (Rom. 8:30). Christ, in whom all the promises of God are Yes and Amen (2 Cor. 1:20), died for those who were given him by the Father (John 17:6, 12) in order that he might give them eternal life and not lose a single one of them (6:40; 17:2); he therefore gives them eternal life and they will never be lost in all eternity; no one will snatch them out of his hand (6:39; 10:28).

The Holy Spirit who regenerates them remains eternally with them (14:16) and seals them for the day of redemption (Eph. 1:13; 4:30). The covenant of grace is firm and confirmed with an oath (Heb. 6:16–18; 13:20), unbreakable like a marriage (Eph. 5:31–32), like a testament (Heb. 9:17), and by virtue of that covenant, God calls his elect. He inscribes the law upon their inmost being, puts his fear in their heart (Heb. 8:10; 10:14ff.), will not let them be tempted beyond their strength (1 Cor. 10:13), confirms and completes the good work he has begun in them (1 Cor. 1:9; Phil. 1:6), and keeps them for the return of Christ to receive the heavenly inheritance (1 Thess. 5:23; 2 Thess. 3:3; 1 Pet. 1:4–5).

In his intercession before the Father, Christ acts in such a way that their faith may not fail (Luke 22:32), that in the world they may be kept from the evil one (John 17:11, 20), that they may be saved for all times (Heb. 7:20), that their sins will be forgiven them (1 John 2:1), and that they may all be where he is to behold his glory (John 17:24). The benefits of Christ, which the Holy Spirit imparts to them, are all irrevocable (Rom. 11:29). Those who are called are also glorified (8:30). Those who are adopted as children are heirs of eternal life (8:17; Gal. 4:7). Those who believe have eternal life already here and now (John 3:16). That life itself, being eternal, cannot be lost. It cannot die since it cannot sin (1 John 3:9). Faith is a firm ground (Heb. 11:1), hope is an anchor (6:19) and does not disappoint us (Rom. 5:5), and love never ends (1 Cor. 13:8).

Ecumenical evangelical preacher Billy Graham meets
with Pope John Paul II in 1993[1]
“I am far more tolerant of other kinds of Christians than I once was. My contact with Catholic, Lutheran and other leaders—people far removed from my own Southern Baptist tradition—has helped me, hopefully, to move in the right direction. I’ve found that my beliefs are essentially the same as those of orthodox Roman Catholics, for instance….”
~Billy Graham[2]
“500 years are enough.”
~Pope Francis*
By Gaylene Goodroad

From Broad Way Billy . . .
Just as Pope John Paul II was the catalyst for the current ecumenical movement, evangelist Billy Graham was the inspiration behind many leading evangelical leaders flocking to Rome today in ecumenical solidarity.

In his book, On the Edge of Apostasy: The Evangelical Romance with Rome, Robert M. Zins quotes Billy Graham, who was asked by a Christianity Today reporter in 1981 what the most significant changes in the Church were the previous 25 years:

…the new understanding between Roman Catholics and Protestants. Twenty-five years ago we could hardly speak with each other openly. In Crusades today, thousands of Catholics feel free to attend. I have preached in Roman Catholic schools and have received honorary doctorates from them. This could not have happened twenty-five years ago.[3][bold added]

Zins commented on Graham’s unbiblical ecumenical stance and tragically impotent gospel:

How is it that the apostle Paul had a death sentence upon his head when he spoke the Gospel to the Jewish community, and Mr. Graham receives honorary degrees? Could it be the message? We have no doubt that it is. Somewhere early on Mr. Graham lost it, and there is not one indication today that he has retrieved the cutting edge of the Gospel.[4][bold added]

Billy Graham and Reset/Together 2016 founder, Nick Hall[5]

. . . To Broad Way Nick
Unfortunately, Graham has passed his all-encompassing ecumenical gospel down to many idealistic millennials. Nick Hall, the Reset Movement/Together 2016 founder, has been called by some the “Billy Graham of the next generation.” In an interview with the Christian Post in March, Hall could scarcely conceal his robust admiration for the elderly Graham, and for Graham’s model of large public (often national, patriotic) gatherings calling for Christian unity:

“Moments of historic change [are] often marked by historic gatherings, and so, for us, we really believe that this is a time to shift the nation back to what matters,” said Hall, citing other “defining moments of faith” as the women’s suffrage and Civil Rights movements.

Regarding the increasing division of the nation during contentious presidential elections, Hall added that while it’s easy to be critical and negative during election cycles, people really long to come together. “We can still unite, regardless of our differences, and we really believe that Jesus is the one that can bring us together.”

Hall sits on the leadership team of the National Association of Evangelicals and on the student advisory team for the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association. He’s even been dubbed by some as the “Billy Graham of the next generation,” and admires the famed evangelist’s ability to bring people together.

“Billy Graham is obviously a hero of many people. I think the way that he brought people together, the way that he always talks about hope and life, and kept the message on something that could unite. And so, obviously anybody’s going to be humbled and honored to even be mentioned in the same breath as somebody like Billy Graham,” he told Fox News.[6][bold added]

Hall has even posted his “commissioning” video online[7] that begins with footage of Billy Graham’s preaching at Explo ’72[8] at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas. The Billy Graham Evangelistic Association (BGEA) has also promoted Hall and his reinvigorated ecumenical message on its website—comparing Hall to a young Graham:

Hall is intentionally crossing ministry and denominational lines, calling on Christ followers to come together to reach the next generation.

The Billy Graham Evangelistic Association (BGEA) is one of several ministries partnering with RESET, which Hall says resembles the early days of Youth for Christ—a ministry that was born in the 1940s, with Billy Graham as its first full-time evangelist.

“At the beginning of Billy Graham’s ministry, he would go across the country and he was calling youth for Christ,” Hall said. “We were like, ‘What would it look like for a modern day movement to unfold today—a generation-defining moment in our day, with young people going ‘all in’ for God?’ That birthed the concept and the dream and the vision for RESET.”[9][bold added]

But Hall’s “generation-defining” movement called RESET is a false gospel, (see Part 1), that is leading multitudes onto the Broad Way apostasy bridge and away from the saving Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Broad Way Joel

Joel Osteen met with Pope Francis in 2014[10]

Besides Rick Warren (see Part 2), Pope Francis has also recently met with several other popular American evangelical leaders hoping to entice them, and their enormous flocks, onto the ecumenical and interfaith Broad Way Bridge to apostasy, including Joel Osteen (Positivity Gospel),[11] James Robison (ecumenical televangelist),[12] Kenneth Copeland (Word Faith),[13] and John Arnott (Toronto Blessing).[13] Charisma News reported some of the details concerning these recent Vatican visits:

The televangelists are among some wealthier U.S. evangelicals who have recently met with Francis, who has called for a focus on the poor and a simple lifestyle for clergy. In March, the pope met with members of the Green family, the Oklahoma billionaires whose company, Hobby Lobby, won their challenge to President Obama’s contraception coverage mandate at the Supreme Court last week….

[Joel] Osteen’s meeting with Francis on June 4 was part of a larger gathering coordinated by the International Foundation, also known as “the Fellowship.” Osteen was joined by Utah Sen. Mike Lee, a Mormon; California pastor Tim Timmons; and Gayle D. Beebe, president of evangelical Westmont College.

The June 24 meeting leaned particularly toward charismatic Christianity. Other guests were Anthony Palmer, a bishop and international ecumenical officer with the independent Communion of Evangelical Episcopal Churches; Geoff Tunnicliffe, the outgoing head of the Worldwide Evangelical Alliance; and John and Carol Arnott of Catch the Fire Toronto, which grew out of a Pentecostal revival 20 years ago.

The pope met with more than 50,000 Catholic charismatics in Rome last month, admitting he was not always comfortable with the way they prayed….[16][bold added, links removed]

Positivity Preacher, Joel Osteen, gushing about his 2014 visit with Pope Francis said, “I like the fact that he’s trying to make the church larger, not smaller. He’s not pushing people out but making the church more inclusive. That resonated with me.”[17]

But the Lord Jesus said to beware of false teachers pointing to the broad way that leads to destruction for many (Matt. 7:13). Instead, He taught His sheep to enter through the narrow doorway of the Cross.

“Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber. But he that entereth in by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out…. Then said Jesus unto them again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep.”
(John 10:1-3, 7)

Even a casual observer to these recent Vatican visits can see that this wayward cast of shepherds hosted by the Roman Pontiff hold to various strands of aberrant doctrines—erroneous teachings that even compete with Roman Catholic dogma. On what basis could all of these so-called Christian leaders unify? Certainly not upon the Word of God or the Lord Jesus Christ it proclaims.

“For I have not shunned to declare unto you all the counsel of God.
Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood. For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock.
Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them. Therefore watch, and remember, that by the space of three years I ceased not to warn every one night and day with tears.”
(Acts 20:27-31)

Although the Pope was not directly involved with the OneThing Catholic Ecumenical Track event in 2015,[20] the youth gathering demonstrates the concerted push for unification from all streams of Christianity, including the New Apostolic Reformation (NAR). Husband and wife team Iwona and Keith Major started a nonprofit called MajorChange,[21] a Catholic ecumenical organization, that now collaborates with Mike Bickle’s International House of Prayer (IHOP) in Kansas City.[22] Francis Chan was the event’s keynote speaker last year.[23] Chan was also a featured speaker at Nick Hall’s Together 2016 event in July.

Even the 2016 Republican presidential candidate, Donald Trump, called for Christian unity when he spoke at Liberty University in January.[26] But a short month later a public sparring match ensued between Trump and Pope Francis bringing an instant prickly disunity between the two of them. The discord began when the Pope questioned Trump’s Christian faith due to his border-securing immigration policy.[27] Trump promptly responded to Pope Francis[28] by issuing a statement[29] calling his critical remarks “disgraceful.” A Trump social media advisor later tweeted a barb (with a map),[30] suggesting that the Pope’s statements were hypocritical: “Amazing comments from the Pope-considering Vatican City is 100% surrounded by massive walls.”

There is no sign that the feud between the two men has been resolved, but among Trump’s cache of spiritual advisors[31] include Broad Way-ers James Robison and Kenneth Copeland. Will they will counsel the POTUS candidate toward reconciliation with the Pontiff in the weeks leading up to the election in November?

Broad Way-ers James & Betty Robison, Kenneth Copeland,
John & Carol Arnott, et al, pose with Pope Francis in 2014[34]

On June 26 2014, James Robison posted a glowing review[32] of his visit with Pope Francis at the Vatican titled, “Witnessing the Miracle Jesus Prayed for,” citing the Lord’s prayer for unity in John 17. The article is embellished with a photograph of Robison exchanging a “high five” with the Pontiff (posted at the top of Part 3). A few of the comments posted beneath the article were critical of Robison’s embrace of the Pope. One respondent rightly cited atrocities leveled against Protestant reformers because they refused to relent to Rome’s false doctrines. Note Robison’s glib and dismissive response to this concerned reader:

“Fortunately, we are not dealing with those people today. Nor the Jews who persecuted Christians. Or the Egyptians who slaughtered children. Or the Romans who beheaded the disciples. It’s nice to be in the present, with the old ways left behind.”[33]

But these reckless and insensitive sentiments not only betray the import of John 17, they also betray our Christian brethren who perished for the sake of the Gospel.

“I have given them Thy word; and the world hath hated them, because…. They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. Sanctify them through Thy truth: Thy word is truth.” (Jn. 17:14-17)

No one can be justly sanctified by Christ or truly unified with Him by aligning themselves with enemies of His Gospel, His Word, or His Body.

The Scriptures tell us that the Lord God remembers those killed for His sake, even if men posing as God’s workmen like Robison do not. The Harlot Church, “drunken with the blood of the saints and with the blood of the martyrs,” will one day give an account to Him for her abominations against God (Rev. 16:5-7; 17:3-6, 15-18; 18:4-8, 20; 19:1-2). The Bible also warns us that this ‘Whore of Babylon’ will be led by a religious global leader—a False Prophet—in cahoots with the Antichrist (Rev. 13:11-17; 16:13; 19:19-20; 20:10). God’s Word tells us that this unholy trinity, led by Satan (the Dragon), will ravage and attempt to destroy God’s Bride before Jesus Christ returns to the earth (Dan. 7:19-26; Rev. 12:17; 13:1-8; 16:6; 17:6; 18:24). Are we in fact witnessing the coalescing of the Harlot Church in this hour shortly preceding a day of inordinate tribulation on earth? Is persecution looming on the horizon for the faithful remnant—those who refuse to unify with apostasy?

“For He hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.
(Heb. 13:5-6)

The Gathering promo featuring NAR leader Samuel Rodriquez[35]

James Robison and Nick Hall were among a popular cast[36] of evangelical and NAR leaders, pastors, teachers, and authors who came together for a National Solemn Assembly September 21st in Dallas, called The Gathering, “to unite the Body of Christ in America– all believers, regardless of race, age, or denomination – in prayer for forgiveness, wisdom, and provision for our nation.”[37] Anne Graham Lotz, the undiscerning daughter of ecumenical evangelist Billy Graham, was among the many scheduled speakers.

Life Today (Robison) and Together 2016 (Hall) are listed as partners[39] as well as speakers for The Gathering event. Other speakers on the roster for The Gathering were also scheduled to attend Together 2016. Discerning readers might also notice that the chosen date for this Christian unity coalition event was on the same day as the United Nations International Day of Peace. Coincidence? The graphics below depict an unbiblical collusion:

Pope Francis appears to be ramping up his efforts to unify Protestants and Catholics in recent months.[43] Zenit News reported that the Pontiff gave an address to the World Communion of Reformed Churches in June. In it he quoted his now familiar refrain also being sung by accommodating evangelicals like James Robison:

Our meeting here today is one more step along the journey that marks the ecumenical movement, a blessed and hope-filled journey whereby we strive to live ever more fully in accord with the Lord’s prayer “that all may be one” (Jn17:21)…

There is urgent need for an ecumenism that, along with theological dialogue aimed at settling traditional doctrinal disagreements between Christians, can promote a shared mission of evangelization and service….

Dear brothers and sisters, in renewing my gratitude for your visit and your commitment in service to the Gospel, I express my hope that this meeting may be an effective sign of our resolution to journey together towards full unity. May it encourage all Reformed and Catholic communities to continue to work together to bring the joy of the Gospel to the men and women of our time. God bless you all.[44][bold added]

In order to unify all religions—and indeed the world—the Pope must first unify those identifying themselves as Christian under his authority. As a political[45] and governmental leader[46] with religious power,[47] it is imperative that the Roman Pontiff succeed in his ecumenical and interfaith endeavors in order to secure global religious control[48] and ultimately cross completely over the apostate Broad Way Unity Bridge.

Broad Way Pope
Is Christian Unity Coming through Pope Francis?[49]

Lamont Colucci, a political writer for U.S. News & World Report, posted an astute article on the ramifications of Pope Francis’ ecumenical initiative in June. Below are some highlights:

Those of us involved with foreign policy, national security and international relations tend to focus most of our attention on the immediate threat or short-term trend. Some of us involved more on the military or diplomatic wing rarely look at religion, except for the contemporary focus on jihadism emanating out of the Islamic world. Lost in this is the planetary view that attempts to identify titanic, or potential shifts, in world politics.

On Sunday, Pope Francis attended the Divine Liturgy celebrated by the patriarch at Etchmiadzin, the center of the Armenian Apostolic Church. He reiterated his much used word, “scandal,” to describe Christian disunity. Much has been written about Pope Francis’ attempts at reform, his possible views on immigration, climate change and economics. However, far above all of this are indications that this pope has a renewed interest in Christian unity. Those who watch and study this know all too well that we have seen this before, and it came to naught. However, there are signs to indicate that we may be witnessing a more fundamental desire…. Some have reported that a meeting and declaration like this has not happened since 1054 AD….

Should Francis’ efforts begin to prove successful and palatable to Orthodox and Protestant Christians, there will be no greater story in international relations in the 21st century. Those of us wired to the hard politics of war, diplomacy and trade forget that all of this pales in comparison to the power of God and the church. If Christendom were once again to have unified positions on all of these ideas, it would be an unstoppable force for good in a world rent by the evils of terrorism, human degradation and political tyranny. The shift would be incalculable to the current mindsets of international relations, to both theoretical academician and political practitioner alike. Perhaps we are bearing witness to the truly most transformative political story in centuries….[50][bold added]

While Colucci is correct to say that the Pope’s ambitious plan to unify Christians would potentially be a “titanic shift in world politics,” biblically, his conclusions are tragically wrong. When—not if—Christendom unifies in this way, it will not be “an unstoppable force for good,” but a deadly vehicle for the Antichrist.

In his article, Colucci also briefly mentioned Pope Francis’ public apologies to “various protestant groups for sins committed against them.”[51] These recent apologies will also facilitate bridge-building in order to “leave the old ways behind” (in the words of James Robison), and push on toward global unification. The next historic gathering[52] to this end for Pope Francis will be a Joint Ecumenical Commemoration of the Reformation on Oct. 31st in Lund, Sweden.[53]

A Broad Way 2nd Reformation?
500th Anniversary of the Reformation – Oct. 2017[54]

But this 2016 event in Sweden and other events held this year are merely a precursor to the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation in 2017:

Joint Ecumenical Commemoration
The Lutheran World Federation and the Catholic Church will hold a joint ecumenical commemoration of the Reformation on 31 October 2016 [Halloween, ed.] in Lund and Malmö, Sweden.  It will begin with a liturgy in Lund Cathedral and continue with a public event in Malmö Arena that will be open to wider participation.

Pope Francis, LWF President Bishop Dr Munib A. Younan and LWF General Secretary Rev. Dr Martin Junge will lead the common prayer service in Lund and the event in Malmö in cooperation with leaders from Church of Sweden and the Catholic Diocese of Stockholm.

The event will take place in anticipation of the 500th Reformation anniversary in 2017. It will highlight the solid ecumenical developments between Catholics and Lutherans and the joint gifts received through dialogue.[55][bold added, links removed]

Broad Way Europe
Screenshot of ‘Together for Europe’ trailer[56]

Not so coincidentally, 1,700 representatives of 300 Christian denominations met in Munich, Germany (Martin Luther’s home country)[57] as part of the ‘Together for Europe’ congress from June 30 to July 2.[58] Pope Francis sent a video message[59] to the participants encouraging the historic gathering,

“…Together for Europe? Today this is more than ever necessary. In a Europe made up of many nations, you bear witness to the fact that we are children of one Father and brothers and sisters to one another. You are a precious seed of hope, so that Europe can rediscover its vocation to contribute to the unity of all….”

The prevailing theme of the ‘Together for Europe’ gathering was that ‘unity is possible’ and that after five hundred centuries of ungodly separation, Protestants and Christians must come together. Gerhard Pross, organizer of this event opined,

“The division amongst Christians in Europe is a wound, but it does not have to be open forever.” Looking ahead to the 2017 commemoration of the Protestant Reformation, he concluded: “500 years are enough.”[60][bold added]

The Wittenberg 2017 Summit, scheduled to be held at the Castle Church in Berlin next year, will include Christian luminaries such as Leonard Sweet (Emergent),[61] George Wood (Assemblies of God),[62] and Samuel Rodriquez (New Apostolic Reformation)[62] cited above. James O. Davis, founder of the Billion Soul Network, which is sponsoring the event, will also be a presenter.[63]

A Broad Way Reinvented (“Reset” of) Luther?!
Wittenberg Summit 2017 poster[64]

On October 31, 2017, the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation, it is possible that Pope Francis might publicly apologize on behalf of his murderous Roman Catholic predecessors for the brutal atrocities committed against the martyred Christian Reformers (who suffered and died for the sake of the Gospel of Christ). But if he does this, it is likely he will do so without completely repenting of his false Gospel, false Christ, and the multitude of other false doctrines taught in his church. Will he posture global unity while affirming the title “Vicar of Christ”?[65] This appears to be the Pope’s modus operandi. By treacherously striving to undo (“reset”) the Reformation with feigned confession, counterfeit doctrinal transformation, and false promises for enduring global harmony the Pope, with his Broad Way ecumenical evangelical associates, may precipitate the greatest falling away from the truth the world has ever known (Lk. 18:8; 2 Thess. 2:3; 1 Tim. 4:1).

“Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, and with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.”
(2 Thess. 9-10)

The late Dave Hunt sounded a sobering alarm to the Church back in 1994 after the signing of the Evangelicals and Catholics Together (ECT) accord. His statements are even more relevant today as we witness the wholesale betrayal of the Christian Reformers, the sweeping betrayal of the Gospel, and the swift formation of the Harlot church:

A Flickering Candle of Truth

If we truly love the lost souls about us, no matter what their religious affiliations, we will increase our efforts to bring them the truth of the gospel before it is forever too late. Such was the passion of Bishop Hugh Latimer, England’s most powerful preacher in his day. He had dared to explain the errors of transubstantiation and of Rome’s false gospel even during the reign of Henry VIII, for which he was imprisoned in the Tower of London. Released when Edward came to power, Latimer continued his passionate preaching of the gospel of salvation by grace through faith in the finished work of Christ until, under Bloody Mary, he was imprisoned again and burned at Balliol college on October 16, 1555.

Bound back-to-back with iron chain at the same stake with Bishop Nicholas Ridley, Latimer was heard to call out to his companion in martyrdom as the flames engulfed them:

Be of courage, Master Ridley, and play the man. We shall this day, by God’s grace, light such a candle in England as I trust will ever be put out!

Such is the heritage of today’s Protestants, which evangelical leaders are now dishonoring and even repudiating. Christian leaders who likely would not have known the gospel but for the martyrs who bravely stood up to Rome are now joining in an unholy partnership with that very institution which shed the martyr’s blood!

Yes, the woman rides the beast, and part of that ride is an unholy alliance with those who ought to know better. Let us stand firmly against the descending darkness as that candle ignited by the immolated bodies of countless martyrs flickers ever more dimly in our day.[66][bold added]

This is How Moral Relativism is Winning – and Evangelicalism is Losing

Biblical Christians rightly affirm universal truth and absolute morality, while decrying the rise of moral relativism. We see the enemies of the faith – angry atheists, secular humanists, political lefties – constantly pushing moral relativism, insisting that there are no universal moral laws we all are subject to.

But let me tell you something: evangelicals can relax about what our enemies are up to, since we seem to be doing a great job of destroying the faith from within as we also shill for moral relativism in so many different ways. This has been going on for quite some time now.

The religious left has certainly been at this game, championing the immoral causes of the secular left, whether it is homosexual marriage or abortion on demand. They have trashed the faith as they have fully embraced moral relativism.

moral-relativismBut sadly plenty of conservative evangelicals are doing the exact same thing. This has been abundantly clear this year as so many evangelicals have made Donald Trump their human messiah to be defended at all costs. I have interacted with hundreds of these folks this year, and it has been one of the most painful and grievous experiences of my entire Christian life.

Everything Scripture has to say about such matters seems to be thrown out the window as the only thing that really matters for these evangelical Trumpites is getting Donald in and keeping Hillary out of the White House. That really does seem to be their driving passion in life, and it seems that everything is morally permissible to attain this end.

The means can be as questionable as all get out, but it doesn’t matter: Donald must win, or else. Thus ‘the end justifies the means’ has now become for millions of evangelicals the new standard of Christian morality. It is how they do Christianity now. It seems for many, “For me to live is Trump and to die is gain” has become the new Christian credo to live and die for.

And yes it really is that bad. I have experienced this first hand many hundreds of times now. It breaks my heart as it must break the heart of God. It is nothing more than sinful idolatry, and it must be repented of. And the perfect example of this has just occurred this weekend when yet another damning revelation emerged of just what a vile, despicable, immoral lout Trump is.

In case you are not up on the latest, he said such edifying gems as this:
Trump: “I DID TRY AND F**K HER.”
Trump: “GRAB THEM BY THE P***Y.”

Yet once again – incredibly – so many of these evangelicals have rushed to his defence. I have dealt with many dozens of such folks in just the past 24 hours. They will actually make excuses for sin, seek to cover it up, water it down, justify it, make it seem OK, and insist it really is no big deal. These are evangelicals we are talking about here, not immoral or amoral atheists!

“Oh it was just some boys’ talk.” “All men talk this way.” “It happened a while ago.” “It is not so bad.” Yes I have actually heard Christians say all this and more. On and on the excuse making machine goes. And this is being done in three main ways which I have seen so often now that it really makes me ill. They are: “Yes but…,” “No one’s perfect,” and “You are a perfectionist.” Let me examine each of these.

“Yes but…”

Yes he is crude and rude, but….
Yes he had the morals of an alley cat, but…
Yes he is not quite my cup of tea, but…
Yes he has pretty reprehensible character, but…
Yes he is no saint, but…

And the second half of these lousy excuses is always this: “But Hillary is worse.” Or, “But Hillary will attack the church.” Or “But Hillary will make bad SCOTUS appointees” etc. etc. Um, since when have biblical Christians decided that it is now perfectly OK to excuse and justify the gross immorality and sins of one person simply because another person is also guilty of such things?

Is that the depths that evangelicals are now descending to? Defending reprehensible filth and perversion because all that matters is keeping Hillary out of the White House? So that is now the sum total of Christian ethics and morality? Whatever it takes to keep her out is the summum bonum of biblical morality and Scriptural truth?

This my friends is nothing other than moral relativism: the very thing we claim to detest in the enemies of the faith. But now it is just fine? Really? As long as Trump wins, everything is of secondary concern?

These defenders of Trump insist that a Hillary win will mean a real assault on Christianity and will prevent us from freely speaking about Christ. Um, earth calling the Trumpites. Trump already is gagging all Christian voices by trashing the Christian faith as countless gullible and undiscerning believers throw all their support and faith in this immoral lefty pagan.

Sorry, that is doing far more damage to the faith than anything Hillary might do. Evangelicals who have become blatant moral relativists have already taken a sledge hammer to the church. Pagans like Hillary can just sit back and watch as we do the demolition job ourselves.

“No one’s perfect”

I have lost count of the number of times I have had this idiotic excuse thrown at me. Why not try telling me something I don’t know? Of course no one is perfect. That is completely beside the point. The issue is, does character, integrity, decency and righteousness count for anything these days, especially when it comes to leaders and the fate of our nation?

It did matter 100 per cent for the American Founding Fathers. But for millions of American evangelicals, the only thing that matters is winning, and everything else is just a distraction. Trump must get in, and whatever it takes to make this happen is now the moral thing to do. Hmm, sounds just like Marxist morality to me: whatever it takes to accomplish our goals is moral. Anything that prevents this is immoral.

Oh, and I thought Jesus actually told us to be perfect as his father in heaven is. I guess these same evangelicals would deride and mock Jesus as well for such impractical idealism. “Let’s get real Jesus – we have to make America great again, so we don’t have time for all these lofty and unhelpful principles and stuff.”

This my friends is nothing other than moral relativism.

“You are a perfectionist”

I have seen so many of these evangelicals savagely smear and vilify Christians who refuse to join the Trump cult. They viciously attack committed, principled Christians who stand on the word of God and their biblically informed conscience, smearing them as being hung up on “principles” and being “perfectionists,” wanting a Sunday School teacher – or Jesus – in the White House, etc.

No I do not want or expect Jesus to run for POTUS. But I do expect a candidate put up by the GOP to actually be a Republican, a conservative, and have some basic values and principles. If any trailer park trash will do, because winning is all that matters, then we have sold our souls to the devil for a batch of humanistic porridge. And then conservatism has died as well as our Christian witness.

And that my friends is moral relativism.

These “Christians” who are still vigorously defending what this immoral pagan says and does are doing far more damage to Christianity than Hillary ever will. They are dragging the name of our Lord and his holy reputation through the dirt. No Christian should ever be guilty of doing that.

This my friends is moral relativism, and these evangelicals need to repent. And they need to repent of their gross hypocrisy as well. If a Democrat was found guilty of such perverted filth, evangelicals would rightly howl him down, saying no true Christian could ever support such an immoral sleazeball.

But when Trump does the very same sorts of things we detested and condemned in Bill Clinton, they not only defend him and demand that we still vote for him, but they make appalling excuses for his sin and shout down genuinely concerned believers.

This my friends is moral relativism, and this is why the church is losing big time in America and in the West.

As usual Matt Walsh has far more biblical wisdom and common sense on all this than millions of deceived evangelicals who no longer can think straight or act morally. What he said this weekend echoes my sentiments exactly:

Don’t defend Trump on this one, guys. Please don’t do it. Whether you’ll vote for him or not, please don’t debase and discredit yourself by defending a dirtbag who bragged about sexually assaulting women. Don’t. Just don’t. It’s not worth it.
And yes, it’s sexual assault. In the tapes from 2005 (he was sixty at the time — not 15) he talks about being able to “do whatever he wants” to women because he’s famous. He said he tried to “f*ck” a married woman but she shut him down. Then he said he can kiss women or “grab ’em in the p*ssy” and they’ll let him do it because he’s “a star.”
Yeah, Bill Clinton is just as bad. Yeah, Hillary is still terrible. Yeah, sure, but so what? The badness of someone else doesn’t make the badness of Trump less bad. And it certainly doesn’t excuse us in DEFENDING the badness.
This was my fear all along. This is why I opposed Trump. This is what I’ve been saying for over a year now. Trump will lose in a landslide and take down the whole movement with him. He’ll take it down because so many of its members are sacrificing the integrity and credibility of conservatism for Trump’s sake.
And it will only get worse from here. They have more dirt on Trump. Worse dirt. Get ready. It will all bubble to the surface now. Already I’ve read that a former Miss Utah is prepared to go on the record about being sexually assaulted by Trump. It’s all coming out. Everything. Just like I said it would. Just like so many of us said it would back when we tried to warn against nominating Trump. Nobody listened. And here we are.
The Trump campaign is coming apart. There’s probably no way to stop it. But all I ask is that you — I mean my reader, who I respect and appreciate — please don’t lower yourself for this man’s sake. Vote how you see fit, but don’t start telling us that it’s not so bad for a married 60 year old man to brag about grabbing random women in the crotch. It’s not OK. And it doesn’t suddenly become OK because a Republican did it.
We aren’t moral relativists. Or we shouldn’t be. But what grieves me so much is that Trump has turned so many of us into that.

I am not a moral relativist. I cannot be, since I am a biblical Christian. But it seems millions of evangelicals have been willing to trash moral absolutes and universal truth as they shill for this human wrecking ball. They will not only cause Hillary to easily get into the White House, but far worse, they have dishonoured their Lord and brought shame on the cause of Christ.

Some thoughts on a presidential campaign going from bad to worse to nightmarish.

Joel C. Rosenberg's Blog

trump-hillaryAs the news from both presidential candidates goes from bad to worse to nightmarish to surreal (see below), I find myself grieving. There is no other way to put it. I’m not grieving as one who has no hope. But I am grieving all the same.

It is bitterly painful to see America arrive at this point, neck-deep in corruption and vulgarity, edging closer and closer, day by day, towards moral, spiritual, social and economic implosion.

We desperately need a revival, a sweeping spiritual awakening, to put us back on the right track. Will it come? I honestly do not know. I’m praying — pleading — for the Lord to give us one, and soon. I’m praying for each of the presidential and vice presidential candidates, and their families and advisors. I’m praying the Lord will supernaturally salvage this train wreck of an election and give us a surprise ending that will truly bless…

Jesus Always, the Sequel to Jesus Calling

Tim Challies has written many excellent book reviews.  This time he sets his sights on best-selling author Sarah Young’s just released daily devotional.  As in Jesus Calling, the Jesus in Young’s new book is clearly not the Jesus of Scripture but an impostor, as Challies makes plain in his review:

jesus-alwaysThis book is going to be big. Huge, even. Its predecessor has sold well over 10 million copies and more than a decade after publication has no less than 6 editions on the list of Christian bestsellers. Today, at last, comes the long-awaited sequel, releasing to great fanfare—a million-copy first printing backed by a huge $300,000 marketing spend. One way or another you will come across this book and so will most of your friends and neighbors. You will see it on Amazon, in Costco, in airport bookshops, and perhaps even at your church’s book table. It’sJesus Always, Sarah Young’s sequel to Jesus Calling.

Like Jesus Calling, Jesus Always is a little book—just 4.4 by 6.3 inches—and like Jesus Calling contains 365 short daily devotions. What makes Young’s little books distinct is her big claim: Her name is on the cover, but the words come from Jesus.

Can We Enjoy Heaven Knowing Loved Ones Are in Hell?

Blogger, author and pastor Tim Challies answers the burning question:

heaven-3Heaven is far too perfect, far too sinless, far too other for us to imagine in our fallen minds. Our attempts to put brush to canvas have led to depictions of cherubs on clouds, idyllic colors of dawn, Christ as a blinding light, a faceless adoring throng. Some of these attempts to capture heaven’s splendors are beautiful and even captivating, yet we know they are also incomplete. They are, at best, the barest reflection of what awaits. Our imaginations must always fall short of heaven’s glorious perfections.

Revelation 21:4 assures us that in heaven God himself will wipe away our tears, that there will be no death, no sorrow, no crying, and no pain. There is a deeply comforting certainty in our future—a certainty of joy, bliss, comfort, peace, love, and perfection. However, those of us with non-believing family members and friends can find this certainty an area of intense struggle. Why? Because we know that not everyone will be there with us. Many we love today will have an eternal experience of pain, torment, and separation. How could we ever enjoy heaven if our loved ones are in hell? R.C. Sproul tackled this question at a Ligonier Ministries conference years ago and I appreciate his answer.

Let him who boasts, boast in the Lord

Possessing the Treasure

by Mike Ratliff

8 For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; 9 not as a result of works, so that no one may boast. Ephesians 2:8-9 (NASB)

It is very common in the visible church in our time to hear preachers and teachers and people within local bodies of believers to boast about all sorts of things pertaining to their salvation or walk. They boast about their confirmation, baptism, church membership, Holy Communion, keeping the Ten Commandments, living the Sermon on the Mount, giving to charity, and living a moral life. It is not uncommon to hear some even boast about their faith, but all boasting is rooted in good works, not grace.
