May 23: Fear: The Fight against It

1 Chronicles 12:1–13:14; 1 Timothy 6:11–21; Psalm 81:1–82:8

Fear is poisonous. When it drives our decisions, it will slowly destroy us—causing us to make moves that are against God’s will and detrimental to ourselves and others. The antidote to fear is complete reliance on Yahweh, our God, and His work through the Spirit.

David is the epitome of someone who sets aside fear in favor of God’s work. He surrounds himself with “feared” men, his “mighty men.” The descriptions of their skills show the caliber of these warriors and thus the incredible character and skill it must have taken to lead them (1 Chr 12:1–15). It takes courage to be a leader and valor to be a leader of leaders. David was a man of valor—a man empowered by the Spirit’s work.

It would have been easy for David to worry or be concerned as a leader—especially when the Spirit comes upon a smaller group of men who oppose him. People rise up around him, and they are being chosen by God in a way he had been. But David isn’t concerned or resentful; instead, he affirms God’s work (1 Chr 12:16–18).

The Spirit empowers David again when he seeks out the ark of the covenant, which had previously been with God’s people as they went into battle and when they worshiped (1 Chr 13:1–4). In this moment, when David summons the people to undertake this task, he shows that he is not just a leader of great men, but a godly leader of great men. He understands that his own strength and skill will not carry him and his warriors. Instead, they must be guided by Yahweh. They must recover the ark that symbolized Him and His work among them, His very presence.

Rather than let fear drive him, David drives out fear in the name of His God. We should be people of the same character, showing courage and valor.

What is God doing through you? How can you allow God to banish the fears you have?

May 23 Marveling at God’s Forgiveness (Matthew)

The twelve apostles included “Matthew the tax-gatherer” (Matt. 10:3).

✧✧✧

Never lose your sense of awe over Christ’s forgiveness.

Matthew describes himself as “Matthew the tax-gatherer” (Matt. 10:3). He is the only apostle whose name is associated here with an occupation. Apparently Matthew never forgot what he had been saved from and never lost his sense of awe and unworthiness over Christ’s forgiveness.

Matthew 9:1–8, where he sets the scene of his own conversion, tells us Jesus forgave the sins of a paralytic man and then healed him of his paralysis. When the Jewish scribes accused Him of blasphemy for claiming to have the authority to forgive sins, He said to them, “Why are you thinking evil in your hearts? For which is easier, to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Rise, and walk’?” He wanted them to know that His miracles testified to His deity. As God, He could as easily forgive sins as He could heal diseases.

Immediately after that account, Matthew gave the account of his own call. It’s as if he wanted his own salvation to serve as an illustration of Christ’s ability to forgive even the vilest of sinners. Matthew 9:9 says, “As Jesus passed on from there, He saw a man, called Matthew, sitting in the tax office; and He said to him, ‘Follow Me!’ And he rose, and followed Him.”

When the Pharisees questioned Jesus’ practice of associating with tax-gatherers, He said to them, “It is not those who are healthy who need a physician, but those who are ill. … I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners” (vv. 12–13). The Pharisees were sick with sin but thought they were healthy. Matthew and his associates knew they were sinners who needed a Savior.

Do you share Matthew’s humility and sense of awe at receiving Christ’s precious gift of forgiveness? I pray that you do and that you are continually praising Him for it.

✧✧✧

Suggestions for Prayer:  Thank God for the wonder of forgiveness. ✧ If you have lost your sense of awe over God’s forgiveness, perhaps you’re taking His grace for granted. Confess your apathy, and ask Him to give you a deep appreciation for the enormous price He paid for your salvation.

For Further Study: As a reminder of what Christ endured for you, read Matthew 26:17–27:56, which chronicles the events of His betrayal and crucifixion.[1]

SEKULOW: We Have Uncovered Thousands of Docs Showing Pay-to-Play Between Hillary State Department and Clinton Foundation — The Gateway Pundit

An attorney for Trump, Jay Sekulow announced Wednesday the American Center for Law and Justice uncovered thousands of documents showing Clinton Foundation pay-to-play with Hillary’s State Department through a FOIA lawsuit.

We have uncovered a ‘favor factory’ the ACLJ reported on Wednesday.

There was no firewall between the State Department and the Clinton Foundation as Hillary previously claimed to the public.

Via the ACLJ:

As part of our Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit against the Deep State Department, we have been informed that the State Department has located – and will be forced to turn over to the ACLJ – literally thousands of documents to and about the Clinton Foundation, its subsidiaries, and its senior operatives during the duration of Hillary Clinton’s time as Secretary of State.

The shear volume alone – some 30,000 emails – debunks the specious assertion that there was any kind of firewall whatsoever between Clinton’s State Department and the Clinton Foundation.

These documents, only now being uncovered through our FOIA request and subsequent litigation, show extensive communications exchanged between Clinton or her senior staff at State Department and Doug Band – a senior aid at the Clinton Foundation and creatorof the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI).

In recent court filings, the State Department has revealed that more than 8,700 documents exist in Cheryl Mills’ and/or Huma Abedin’s files which contain the single search term, “Doug Band.” It is possible, and indeed likely, that each document consists of several pages placing the number closer to 18,000 pages or more.

The ACLJ has also learned through our litigation that another 22,000 documents exist in Cheryl Mills’ and Huma Abedin’s files (not including attachments) mentioning or referring to the Clinton Foundation or a related term referencing the foundation.

Newly released documents show Doug Band served as a liaison for Clinton Foundation donors looking for favors and official acts from the Clinton-run State Department, the ACLJ reported.

Doug Band was the ‘go-to’ guy for Clinton Foundation donors. If they needed anything from Hillary Clinton, they would email Doug Band and within minutes he would forward the message to Huma Abedin and or Cheryl Mills to help expedite the favor.

For example:

An email dated December 6, 2010 (tucked away at the very end of the State Department’s most recent production) reveals that Secretary Clinton, upon receiving information that we now know to be classified from a State Department employee, forwarded the classified information via her private email account (HDR22@clintonemail.com) on to various individuals outside the State Department including senior associates at the Clinton Foundation – Justin Cooper and Doug Band. She writes in her email to “print for Bill.”

Of course most of the information contained in the email has been redacted (and won’t be unclassified until 2025) but it appears that the classified communications relate to the investigation into Nobel prize winner Muhammad Yunus’s alleged diversion of foreign aid from the non-profit Bank he chaired (a bank specifically fashioned to provide loans to the poorest of people on easy terms). It is of no surprise – given what we know about the former Secretary’s abuse of her office to grant favors to Foundation donors and supporters – that Yunus was also a donor to the Clinton Foundation.

The ACLJ stated they will be receiving Clinton documents at a pace of approximately 300-600 pages per month.

Jay Sekulow sounded off on Twitter. “You need to read this to believe it.”

EXCLUSIVE: Proof That Twitter’s Bot-Catching Algorithm Targets Trump Supporters — WITH VIDEO — The Gateway Pundit

In a video provided to the Gateway Pundit, a Twitter user attempted to create two different accounts — one for a Trump supporter and one for a Democrat who is “resisting” the administration.

The video was created and provided to The Gateway Pundit by Twitter user who goes by “BraveSaint1.” They have asked that we withhold their actual identity.

While attempting to create the first account, the person doing the experiment attempted to use the name “American Trump Supporter.” The account was immediately locked and they were unable to even use the platform at all.

Next, the user created an account with the name “Resist Trump Tards” and used the “top liberal hashtags” to create the bio. The account was not locked and was allowed to tweet, follow other users and be followed.

The accounts were set up using identical methods, VPN locations and throwaway email providers.

When asked why they decided to do this experiment, “Brave Saint” explained that they had attempted to make an anonymous pro-Trump account and it was instantly locked. This sparked their curiosity and lead to them conducting the tests.

“So, I stumbled upon this by accident, actually. I’m a fan of big data, analysis, all that sort of stuff. I wanted to run some little ‘tests’ to try and understand how the Zeitgeist of Twitter functions on a deeper level,” the video creator told The Gateway Pundit. “I made an anonymous pro-Trump account and got immediately locked out of my account before I was able to tweet anything or follow anyone. I got interested in finding out what tripped their systems, so I did the same thing with a liberal account.”

One of the fake liberal accounts they created was the first to publish the fake Starbucks reparations flyers that went viral.

“Not only did this account not get locked, but even after being in the spotlight of a major viral news story, that account was still not locked down,” they explained.

The Gateway Pundit has reached out to Twitter for comment and will update this story if one is provided.

A New York federal judge ruled on Wednesday that President Trump cannot block Twitter users over their political views because it is a violation of their First Amendment rights.

Trump Should Be Allowed To Block Whoever He Wants On Twitter — The Federalist

A federal judge ruled Wednesday that Donald Trump isn’t allowed to block anyone from his @RealDonaldTrump account on Twitter because it violates the U.S. Constitution.

“This case requires us to consider whether a public official may, consistent with the First Amendment, ‘block’ a person from his Twitter account in response to the political views that person has expressed, and whether the analysis differs because that public official is the President of the United States,” Judge Naomi Reice Buchwald stated in her opinion. “The answer to both questions is no.”

This is absurd. The whole case is based on a few whiny reporters who tweeted things critical of President Trump and found themselves blocked. The rest of us might make another Twitter account to follow him again or just tune into Fox News or CNN for five minutes to get a rundown of what he tweeted that day, but nooooo. These guys were peeved that they couldn’t @Trump, so they decided to sue and got the Knight Foundation to pay for it.

Trump is biggest loudmouth we’ve had as a president in a really long time, possibly the biggest one ever. And news outlets are #obsessed with his tweets. Even my grandparents — who do not have Twitter accounts and would probably require an explanation of the social media platform that’s longer than the six-page-long one in the ruling — know what @RealDonaldTrump is saying at any given time because no one can escape it. So knowing what Trump is tweeting and having access to his account, which is public, is not an issue.

These people are upset they got blocked because their replies to his tweets will not show up under his tweet or make it into Trump’s notifications. Every American has the right, as guaranteed by the First Amendment, to speak freely, but no one is guaranteed the right to an audience. Forcing Trump to unblock people is not a right guaranteed to me by the Constitution, and to pretend otherwise is absurd.

Alexander: Now It’s Op “Backfire Tornado”

Op ‘Crossfire Hurricane’ Is Now Op ‘Backfire Tornado’

The next chapter in how Obama’s Deep State principals have endeavored to take down Donald Trump.

Mark Alexander

“In disquisitions of every kind there are certain primary truths, or first principles, upon which all subsequent reasoning must depend.” —Alexander Hamilton in Federalist No. 31 (1788)

In the Rolling Stones’ hit song Jumpin’ Jack Flash, Mick Jagger wails, I was born in a crossfire hurricane. And I howled at the morning driving rain. I have no idea what that means, but a counterintelligence investigation of the Trump campaign under the codename Crossfire Hurricane certainly justifies a lot of howling.

Let’s review.

Last week marked the one-year anniversary of independent counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into the fake Trump/Putin collusion delusion, sponsored by ludicrous and unverified opposition research provided to the CIA and FBI by operatives of the Clinton-Putin-Fusion farce.

Clinton’s charade prompted months of FBI and CIA investigations into the Trump campaign, followed by the appointment of Mueller to widen the investigation.

Despite having stacked his investigative team with 13 Democrats (some overt donors to Hillary Clinton’s campaign) and zero Republicans, and having burned through 10 million taxpayer dollars (and as much in legal defense fees from those they’ve targeted), what Trump/Putin collusion has Mueller uncovered?

According to The New York Times — yes, The New York Times — A year and a half later, no public evidence has surfaced connecting Mr. Trump’s advisers … or linking Mr. Trump himself, to the Russian government’s disruptive efforts.

Let that sink in.

Instead, Mueller’s big fish indictment was Trump’s former campaign chief, Paul Manafort — with unrelated business practice violations that occurred years before Trump was even a candidate. He also obtained a couple of guilty pleas from others who were only remotely connected to the Trump campaign and a bogus perjury plea from former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn (even disgraced Trump-hating former FBI Director James Comey told Congress he didn’t think Flynn had lied), also unrelated to Mueller’s mandate.

Mueller has issued indictments for 13 Russians who plotted to disrupt the U.S. election in 2016 — not by swinging votes to one candidate or the other but by undermining confidence in the American electoral system.

For the record, the Russians have been trying to disrupt U.S. political stability since 1917, because that’s what socialists do.

Putin’s plotters have succeeded in their disruption goal beyond their wildest ambitions, thanks to a few rotten apples — most notably Obama’s CIA Director John Brennan, the Deep State boss who’s at the root of the Trump collusion setup, the aforementioned James Comey, their enablers within the Clinton campaign, and of course Mueller himself.

Currently, according to Mueller, Trump is not a target of his investigation, but he most certainly has been the target of Brennan and Comey. Despite the fact that the collusion narrative has collapsed, there will likely come other charges and indictments for infractions unrelated to Mueller’s investigative mandate in the months and potentially years ahead, as Mueller can keep his investigation open until he decides to close it — or is fired.

Mueller has veered so far out of his lane that earlier this month during the Manafort hearing, U.S. District Judge T.S. Ellis blasted Mueller’s investigation, charging, If I look at the indictment [against Manafort], none of that information has anything to do with links or coordination between the Russian government and individuals associated with the campaign of Donald Trump. So I don’t see what relation this indictment has with anything the special prosecutor is authorized to investigate.

C’mon, man! the judge added, dismissing the special counsel’s argument.

This week there are two more confirmations of Obama/Clinton political weaponization of the FBI and CIA.

First comes evidence of Obama administration collaboration with several corrupt FBI officials, who were protecting Clinton while using her campaign’s fake dossier to set Trump up.

In a text message between fired key FBI investigator Peter Strzok to his paramour FBI lawyer Lisa Page, Strzok declared that the Obama administration was orchestrating the investigation into Trump. The White House is running this, wrote Strzok.

Obama’s fingerprints were all over the Trump setup.

Department of Justice Inspector General Michael Horowitz has already issued a scathing report regarding the FBI’s former deputy director, Andrew McCabe, a corrupt Clinton supporter who, along with Comey, helped her avoid criminal prosecution for her lawless email communication subterfuge and subsequent destruction of evidence while she was secretary of state.

Horowitz is scheduled to release his second report this week, focusing more on how a few Clinton supporters in key FBI positions mishandled the aforementioned investigation to her campaign’s benefit. And a third report due this summer will provide some insight into another area of the Clinton Crime Syndicate, the corrupt Clinton Foundation and its pay-for-play fundraising schemes.

But Horowitz is about to have another significant investigation on his hands.

The second revelation confirming the Obama/Clinton political weaponization of the FBI and CIA this week came in the form of disclosures regarding a CIA and FBI secret counterintelligence operation investigating the Trump campaign.

In July of 2016, operation Crossfire Hurricane was activated to investigate whether the Russians were attempting to infiltrate and influence the Trump campaign. In effect, the FBI and CIA, using FISA surveillance, covert operatives and allied intelligence services, infiltrated the Trump campaign. The rationale was, ostensibly, to protect the Trump campaign from Russian operatives.

The CIA and FBI should have warned Trump about these threats, but the collusion fix was already set, despite no evidence of such collusion — none.

The first of the Crossfire Hurricane operatives to be outed was British professor Stefan Halper, who was paid more than $400,000 to contact and obtain information from at least three individuals associated with Trump’s campaign: Carter Page, Sam Clovis and George Papadopoulos.

Based on what we know about the events used to justify Crossfire Hurricane, when cross-referenced with the Trump/Putin collusion timeline, I predict that some of Obama’s corrupt CIA and FBI principals who seeded and manured the collusion investigation will also be key players in the counterintelligence operation.

Just a reminder — Richard Nixon’s Watergate coverup most egregiously involved the use of operatives within the CIA and FBI to obtain information on Democrats. Nixon had the decency to resign rather than put the nation through impeachment proceedings. No small irony that the Democrats are now talking about impeaching Trump, when it was the leaders in their own party who were coopting the CIA and FBI to do much more than just obtain opposition research.

Once Crossfire Hurricane became public, Trump protested: I hereby demand … that the Department of Justice look into whether or not the FBI/DOJ infiltrated or surveilled the Trump Campaign for Political Purposes — and if any such demands or requests were made by people within the Obama Administration!

And in a New York second, operation Crossfire Hurricane became operation Backfire Tornado!

But according to former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper (who lied to Congress in 2013 about whether the Obama administration was collecting data on all Americans), Trump’s concern about the counterintelligence campaign targeting his campaign is hyperbole.

Clapper claims: They may have had someone who was talking to them in the campaign, but, you know, the focus here, and as it was with the intelligence community, is not on the campaign, per se, but what the Russians were doing to try to instantiate themselves in the campaign or influence or leverage it. So if there was someone that was observing that sort of thing, that’s a good thing.

Now, for certain, Russian efforts to undermine the integrity of U.S. elections should be thoroughly investigated — as has always been the case.

And objectively, there’s a very thin argument in favor of Clapper’s assertion that the investigation was justified, though highly irregular. However, with Brennan, Comey and some of their key investigative gatekeepers, objectivity was AWOL. They were heavily biased for a Hillary Clinton victory over Trump and were colluding to use the power of their agencies to ensure she would defeat Trump, and in the unlikely event he was elected, ensure to ensnare him in the collusion trap they set.

Thus, President Trump’s concerns are fully justified, as was his call for a full investigation into the campaign probes.

Regarding Brennan’s politicization of the CIA, Trump’s social media staff summed it up: John Brennan … has disgraced himself, he has disgraced the Country, he has disgraced the entire Intelligence Community. He is the one man who is largely responsible for the destruction of American’s faith in the Intelligence Community and with some people at the top of the FBI, Brennan started this entire debacle about President Trump. We now know that Brennan had detailed knowledge of the (phony) dossier. … He briefs the Gang of 8 on the Hill about the dossier, which they then used to start an investigation about Trump. It is that simple. This guy is the genesis of this whole Debacle. This was a Political hit job…

Georgetown law professor Jonathan Turley (a Democrat) observed that, no matter how the Left and Leftmedia try to spin this operation, You can tell a victim that this isn’t a mugging, it’s a forced divestiture, but this is a mugging. … I know of no precedent to support this.

Not about to be content with this mugging, President Trump called Director of National Intelligence Daniel Coats and FBI Director Christopher Wray and ordered an investigation into the campaign probes with a full report due to congressional investigators. White House Chief of Staff John Kelly was assigned to ensure that Congress gets the information it needs to fully investigate the probe.

According to Trump Press Secretary Sarah Sanders, the administration believes the DoJ’s inspector general should expand its current investigation to include any irregularities with the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s or the Department of Justice’s tactics concerning the Trump Campaign.

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein has referred the case to IG Horowitz, and Attorney General Jeff Sessions has appointed a federal prosecutor, John Huber, to work with Horowitz to review the case.

And House Republicans have introduced a resolution calling for a special counsel to investigate the FBI/DOJ investigators involved in the Trump/Russia probe.

Game on.

However, I would caution Republicans to choose their words carefully when casting condemnations, because most of those personnel within the FBI and CIA honor their oaths to support and defend our Constitution, not their preferential candidate, and serve our nation likewise.

According to confidential sources within the FBI, there are special agents who are appealing for subpoenas to testify about the extent of the Deep State corruption in the agency in order to clean it up.

Former District of Columbia U.S. Attorney Joe DiGenova, who is well connected with rank-and-file FBI agents in Washington, says, There are agents all over this country who love the Bureau and are sickened by Comey’s behavior and McCabe and Holder and Lynch, and the thugs like [John] Brennan. They despise the fact that the Bureau was used as a tool of political intelligence by the Obama administration thugs.

DiGenova places the FBI politicization plot squarely at the feet of Comey and McCabe on the inside, and Holder and Lynch over at the DoJ.

One well-placed FBI agent declared: Every special agent I have spoken to in the Washington Field Office wants to see McCabe prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. They feel the same way about Comey. They know that it wasn’t just Comey and McCabe in this case. That’s too narrow a net to cast over these guys. There’s a much broader corruption that seeped into the seventh floor at the Bureau. They ruined the credibility of the Bureau…

Indeed, there are critical questions yet to be answered about the politicization of the FBI under Obama.

As I have previously noted, the corruption of FBI leadership has cast a long shadow on the 12,484 special agents and 2,950 intelligence analysts in the FBI, most of whom steadfastly abide by their constitutional oaths and live up to the FBI motto: Fidelity, Bravery, Integrity. Indeed, most FBI agents, whose reputations are being sullied by the corrupt actions of a few high-ranking officials, are deeply offended both personally and professionally by that corruption.

Finally, allow me to share an award-winning example of Democrat obfuscation in rebuttal to Trump’s demand for an additional investigation.

Senate Minority schmoozer Chuck Schumer (D-NY) did a masterful job of turning this situation inside out: That he would issue such an absurd and abusive demand based on no evidence shows just how little regard the president has for the rule of law.

Seriously, he referenced Rule of Law, claiming there was no evidence, which is precisely the amount of evidence that led to the Mueller investigation.

Schumer then added, President Trump seems to have the terribly misguided view that the Department of Justice is there to protect his political interests and prosecute his enemies. Ironically, it was Democrat Party leaders who weaponized the Department of Justice to take down Trump.

Schumer finally ran out of hot air with this summary: The president’s behavior is the kind of grossly autocratic behavior we’d expect in a banana republic, not a mature democracy.

Actually, the FBI/CIA probe is what one would expect when banana republic autocrats are attempting to take down their opposition.

As Mick Jagger’s song ends, It’s a gas, gas, gas, and more Obama/Clinton FBI/CIA operatives just got doused.

Tucker: Real Lesson From Russia Probe Is Our Ruling Class Is ‘Completely Out of Control’

http://www.dcclothesline.com

Monday during his show’s opening monologue, Fox News Channel’s Tucker Carlson said the “real lesson” from the ongoing Russia investigation was that the ruling class was “completely out of control.”

The “Tucker Carlson Tonight” host criticized the media for framing revelations that the Obama administration used an informant to spy on Trump’s campaign as doing so for Trump’s own good, as was done by The Washington Post and The New York Times.

“The people who wrote this crap should be ashamed,” Carlson said. “It’s not journalism. It’s partisan cheerleading. It’s also embarrassing credulous. Just transcribe whatever spin you got from your FBI source and call it a news story. How would these idiot reporters feel if the Trump administration read their emails or tapped their cell phones or sent a spy to spy on them and then claimed it was all for their own good? Obviously, they would be outraged, and so would we because we are not hacks.”

What Changed? The Same Media Who Excuse Bob Mueller Abused Ken Starr

Today’s journalists routinely assert that it is “extreme,” “dangerous,” and possibly even criminal for the White House – or anyone else, for that matter – to criticize an investigation into the President. But twenty years ago, Independent Counsel Ken Starr was savaged by the same liberal media during his investigation of then-President Bill Clinton.

MAY 23 BLAME SOMEONE ELSE

And the man said, The woman…gave me of the tree, and I did eat.

Genesis 3:12

In the earliest day of failure and tragedy in the garden of Eden, Adam came out of hiding, knowing full well his own guilt and shame.

Adam confessed: “We ate from the fruit of the tree that was forbidden—but it was the woman who enticed me!” (see Genesis 3:12).

When God said to Eve, “What did you do?” she said: “It was the serpent that beguiled me!” (see 3:13).

In that brief time our first parents had learned the art of laying the blame on someone else. That is one of the great, betraying evidences of sin—and we have learned it straight from our first parents. We do not accept the guilt of our sin and iniquity. We blame someone else.

If you are not the man you ought to be, you are likely to blame your wife or your ancestors. If you are not the young person you ought to be, you can always blame your parents. If you are not the wife you ought to be, you may blame your husband or perhaps the children.

Sin being what it is, we would rather lay the blame on others. We blame, blame, blame! That is why we are where we are.

Lord, help me to quickly acknowledge my sins and not try to hide them from You—which is actually impossible to do. I want to receive Your forgiveness and move on in my deepening relationship with You.[1]

“I said Israel should be ashamed – now I am the one who is ashamed”
Virtually the entire world condemned Israel for the Gaza protests. They were wrong. One man admitted it. Daniel Sugarman may be the only leftist Jewish writer in the world to admit he was wrong to condemn Israel after it came to light that the people killed at the Gaza border were not “innocent civilians,” but Hamas operatives. Sugarman is a good man to admit that he was wrong, but what about the UN? What about the international media? What about all the others who condemned Israel? Sugarman’s apology just illustrates how dishonest and antisemitic they are.

Condoms required at Scouts’ 24th World Jamboree

Posted: 23 May 2018 06:39 AM PDT

Condoms required at Scouts’ 24th World JamboreeThe Boy Scouts have decided to accept people who identify as gay and lesbian among their ranks. And girls are welcome now, too, into the iconic organization, which has renamed itself Scouts BSA.  So what’s next? A mandate that condoms be made available to “all participants” of its global gathering.  It’s among the demands of the World Scout Committee for any host country of a World Scout

Jamboree.  That would include the 24th World Scout Jamboree, scheduled July 21-Aug. 1, 2019, in West Virginia.  The Scouts say: “For the first time, a world jamboree will be hosted by three national Scout organizations: Scouts Canada, Asociación de Scouts de México, and the Boy Scouts of America. These three distinct cultures will join together to host the world Scouting community in a celebration of cultural exchange, mutual understanding, peace, and friendship.” With condoms. READ MORE

FALLING AWAY: Rev. Graham Slams Episcopal Church on ‘Marriage’ Change: ‘Caving to the Gay Agenda’

FALLING AWAY: Rev. Graham Slams Episcopal Church on ‘Marriage’ Change: ‘Caving to the Gay Agenda’Commenting on the Episcopal Church’s decision to change marriage terminology from “husband and wife” to “union of two people,” evangelical leader Rev. Franklin Graham said that to “change what God has defined” is “disobedience,” sin, and added that “all of this is caving to the gay agenda.” In a May 18 post on Facebook, Rev. Graham said, “I have many friends in the Episcopal Church and I was saddened when I recently learned that the church wants to remove the terms ‘husband’ and ‘wife’ from

their standardized marital vows. They want to replace the phrase the ‘union of husband and wife’ with the ‘union of two people.” “I’ve got news for them — just changing their words in their ceremony won’t make it right,” said Graham. “You cannot change what God has defined.” “Through the centuries, people have tried to reinterpret, repackage, or rewrite God’s laws to suit themselves and their own evil desires,” he said. “It’s nothing new; but the end result is always the same. It’s called disobedience—it’s called sin. And sin brings God’s judgment.” READ MORE

More Than 4 Out Of 10 Americans Do Not Even Have Enough Money To Cover An Unexpected $400 Expense

More Than 4 Out Of 10 Americans Do Not Even Have Enough Money To Cover An Unexpected $400 Expense(By Michael Snyder) The U.S. economy is not doing nearly as well as the mainstream media would have you believe.  A few days ago I wrote about a new study that discovered that nearly 51 million U.S. households “can’t afford basics like rent and food”, and just yesterday I discussed the fact that we are on pace for the worst year for retail store closings ever.

Now we have just gotten new numbers from the Federal Reserve which are absolutely staggering.  According to the Fed’s latest study, more than 4 out of every 10 Americans do not even have enough money to cover an unexpected $400 expense without borrowing the funds or selling something.  In essence, nearly half the country has no significant financial cushion whatsoever.  So what are all of those people going to do when the next economic crisis hits? Parents Outraged Over Transgender Book’s Inclusion in Statewide School Reading Competition

Parents Outraged Over Transgender Book’s Inclusion in Statewide School Reading CompetitionParents in Oregon have voiced outrage after a book about a transgender boy was included in a statewide reading competition for third through fifth grades, and at least two school districts have opted out of the competition because of the pro-LGBT book’s inclusion.  Over 1,000 people have signed onto an online petition calling on the state to drop the 2015 children’s book George from the

reading list for its 2018-2019 voluntary “Battle of the Books” competition.  The book, which is written by Alex Gino and published by Scholastic, focuses on the story of a biologically male fourth-grader who goes by the name Melissa seeking to play a female role in a school play. “We don’t feel that it’s an age-appropriate book for a variety of reasons, and more so than the transgender aspect, when they talk about dirty magazines and use the word ‘porn,’” Pete Cakebread, a parent of a second grader at Turner Elementary School told The Statesman JournalREAD MORE

Rare Jewish coins linked to Judea found in Temple Mount debris

Rare Jewish coins linked to Judea found in Temple Mount debrisFive ancient coins – believed to be among the first ever minted by Jews – have been found by a special project that is sifting through thousands of tons of dirt removed from Jerusalem’s Temple Mount by Muslims.   According Breaking Israel News, five coins were found. Three were in pristine condition and two showed signs of wear.

They have the letters “YHD,” or Yehud, which, the report said, is the Aramaic name for the biblical kingdom of Judea. They date to about the end of the fourth century B.C. They were found, the report said, “as part of the Temple Mount Sifting Project, an archaeological initiative started in order to sift thousands of tons of dirt illegally excavated and dumped in the Kidron Valley by the Islamic Waqf in 1999.” READ MORE

The Shocking Connection Between Everyday Items and Demonic Activity

Posted: 23 May 2018 05:39 AM PDT

The Shocking Connection Between Everyday Items and Demonic ActivityMost people today consider dolls to be collectibles or children’s toys. But Kimberly Daniels thinks twice about having one in the house. In her book, Breaking the Power of Familiar Spirits: How to Deal With Demonic Conspiracies (June 5, 2018), Daniels writes on how evil spirits operate under covers that make up our everyday lives. From fashion to furniture, from trends to traditions, and from rituals to dolls, Daniels shows how the familiar areas of our lives can harbor demonic influences. One of these areas is fetishes.  “Most idolatry is rooted in fetishism,” Daniels writes.

“Simply put, a fetish is an object with a spirit attached to it. If we’re not vigilant, we can open doors to familiar spirits in our lives and homes simply by the items we possess and the practices we keep.” In writing on fetishism and idolatry, Daniels goes back in history to when dolls had a spiritual value attached to them. In religions and occult practices, dolls were used as supernatural intermediaries to confer favor, represent gods and enact witchcraft. READ MORE

Mysterious Booms, House-Rattling Sounds In Pennsylvania Under Investigation By FBIFederal and local authorities are investigating mysterious booms being reported in Upper Bucks and Lehigh Counties of Pennsylvania.  Springfield Township police say there have been multiple reports of loud explosions, with the most recent one happening shortly after 4 a.m. on Tuesday.  No one seems to know the source of the mysterious booms. “I thought that somebody was making a tunnel or space

junk fell out of the sky,” said Susan Crompton, who lives in Haycock Township. “From poachers, gunfire, to explosions to a sonic boom,” said Jerry Hertz of the mysterious sound. Illinois High School Prohibits Valedictorian From Mentioning Jesus in Graduation SpeechOfficials at an Illinois high school recently prohibited a valedictorian from speaking about Jesus in his graduation speech.  Student Sam Blackledge, 18, told the Todd Starnes Radio Show that he was called to the principal’s office at West Prairie High School last week where it was outlined by school and district officials that he needed to take his religious references out of his speech. “They said they didn’t

want to make it a religious ceremony,” he stated. “They told me that if I took out Christ I could say everything else.”  Blackledge told the officials he wanted to speak from personal experience, but his request was denied. He was informed that his speech might come across as being an endorsement from the school district. Blackledge, therefore, offered to begin his valedictorian speech with a disclaimer. Beyoncé’s Family Buys a Church, Goddess Worship may have just Gone to a Whole New Level

Posted: 22 May 2018 10:47 AM PDT

Beyoncé’s Family Buys a Church, Goddess Worship may have just Gone to a Whole New LevelBeyoncé’s family reportedly purchased a historic church in New Orleans, complete with pews, a pulpit, and ready for service. The church is over 100 years old and located on the corner of Camp and 7th in downtown New Orleans.  Its uncertain if worship is what the property will be used for since the church is zoned HU-RD1, meaning it could be transformed into a small residence. City ordinance states that HU-RD1 zoning is, “limited non-residential uses such as places of worship, historic neighborhood commercial establishments, and recreational facilities that are compatible with surrounding

residential neighborhoods.” The Knowles family is also connected to a Garden District home about five blocks away.  The church was purchased on May 11, just weeks after a San Francisco church held a Beyoncé mass. Nearly 1,000 people showed up to sing Beyoncé songs and listen to a sermon by Reverend Yolanda Norton about the Biblical themes in the music. Broadly reports that the event was “to tell a story of empowerment for particularly women of color, but for anyone who happens to sing praises to the goddess herself, Beyoncé.”  READ MORE

On Paige Patterson and the “Boy’s Club” Mentality — Juicy Ecumenism

This morning the Baptist Press reportedSouthwestern Baptist Theological Seminary’s (SWBTS) trustees reassigned Paige Patterson to president emeritusafter a 13-hour executive session to determine his fate at the school. Jeffrey Bingham, dean of the seminary’s school of theology, was elected to replace Patterson as acting president. The executive session was seemingly prompted by Patterson’s resurfaced comments regarding domestic abuse and a teenage girl’s figure.

According to Baptist Press:

[T]rustees adopted a motion stating “evidence exists” that Patterson has complied with reporting laws on assault and abuse. Trustees also found “no evidence of misconduct” in the employment file of Nathan Montgomery, a Southwestern student who was fired from his employment in campus dining services after he tweeted an article critical of Patterson.

While trustees were still in session, the Washington Post’s Sarah Pulliam Bailey reported a woman who was raped alleges Patterson encouraged her not to tell law enforcement and to forgive her attacker.

For fear of adding speculation to the messiness to this unfolding story over the past few weeks, I’ve been hesitant to comment. But this morning when I reached out to Mark Tooley, President of the Institute on Religion and Democracy, he gave sound advice: “Share your honest thoughts.”

So that is what I will do here. I will share my honest thoughts not about Patterson specifically, but about the broader discussion of the value of women within the Southern Baptist Convention and men who offer a healthy example.

Behind closed doors, I’ve had countless discussions with young Southern Baptist women I know who are tired of the “boy’s club” mentality they encounter within the convention. No, we do not wish to be pastors. Nor are we radical feminists. The women I’m talking about, including myself, are mainly complementarians. We are advocates, authors, and fellow Southern Baptist congregants who simply wish for our thoughts and conclusions to be considered and appreciated by Southern Baptist men in the same way they do their male colleagues. And we want to be acknowledged when riding an elevator, as Beth Moore so aptly shared, or while sitting at a lunch or dinner meeting.

By the way, if my husband Eric ever ignored a woman while riding an elevator or sitting next to her at a lunch meeting, I wouldn’t think he is acting out of respect for me. I’d call him out for being plain rude.

A reporter recently asked me if I feel appreciated and respected by my male colleagues at the IRD. Absolutely! In fact, I believe it is because I work alongside faithful Methodist, Anglican, and Presbyterian men that my senses are heightened to the lacking treatment from some Southern Baptists in leadership positions. My IRD male colleagues value my input, trust my judgments, and they give me grace and direction when I get things wrong. They acknowledge me with respect, and I hope the feeling is mutual.

All this is not a judgment against all Southern Baptist men. There are many respectful, professional Southern Baptist men I’ve working alongside who welcome my perspectives and leadership. My sweet Southern Baptist husband has a servant leader’s heart. My local Southern Baptist church’s pastor, Sunday school teachers, and deacons constantly recognize the value the wives, unmarried women, mothers, and daughters of the congregation add to the universal body of Christ. If they didn’t, honestly I would not affiliate with the Southern Baptist Convention.

Still, the boy’s club mentality among some Southern Baptists—young and old—in leadership positions needs to be addressed and quashed.

Many of us Southern Baptist women have shared our feelings among ourselves, but we are starting to speak our frustrations out loud. I pray Southern Baptist men listen.

How Socialist School Teachers Brainwashed the Snowflake Generation — Christian Research Network

(Ileana Johnson Paugh – Canada Free Press) “The universe is made of protons, neutrons, electrons, and morons.”  –  Anonymous

While the left is busy demonizing President Trump for his remarks about the MS-13 gangs who enter our country illegally through the porous southern border, Congressional members, working against the safety interests of the American people and cheered by the leftist media and half of the voting population, are doing their best to stall, defund, and vilify any effort by our president to build a border wall and to deport the illegal criminal elements who are already in this country and have committed atrocious crimes.

As Senator Diane Feinstein said in a 1994 video interview, 40 percent of babies on Medicaid in California were babies born of illegal immigrants, and 17 percent of the prison population was comprised of illegal immigrants who committed felonies, costing the taxpayers $300 million a year. She called for the enforcement of our borders then but things have changed today.  The Democrat Party needs these illegal voters in order to stay in power.

The Democrat Party has locked up the votes of minorities, illegals, Millennials, the welfare underclass, women, low information voters, and rich liberals who live a good life no matter who is in control of the country, the media, academia, and pretty much anybody who attended public and private schools for the past 50 years and has been brainwashed by socialist teachers and administrators into becoming the snowflake generation they are today. Divide and conquer and race-baiting has worked well for the Democrat Party.

study found that Democrat professors outnumber Republican professors at 40 major universities by a ratio of 11.5 to 1. No wonder students, after having spent a fortune to be indoctrinated into progressivism, finish college as hard-core socialists. Hating capitalism, even though it provided them with opportunities and freedoms they would have never found in Castro’s Cuba or in North Korea’s prison state, they are adamant that socialism will bring them happiness and equality with a six-figure salary and five-star amenities.

The fact that academia is highly controlled by liberals (75% at Yale) has aided in shaping generations to be blind and unquestioning little communist sheeple.

Teachers unions like the National Education Association (NEA) and American Federation of Teachers (AFT) forced children in public education to take part in their professionally-organized protests.

Same teachers, administrators, and textbook writers, funded by billionaires like Bill Gates, Al Gore, George Soros and his many Open Society non-profit foundations shaped the thoughts and “feelings” of young and impressionable minds, young Americans who began to see themselves as global citizens even though they did not necessarily understand the issues clearly.

Our children worship at the altar of socialism, communism, and Islam, without really understanding why communism fell everywhere it was tried and why 100 million people living under communism were killed for wanting liberty and freedom of speech. View article →

Abiding: By the Rules, or In Christ — Gentle Reformation

English speakers and writers use the word “abide” and its kin far less than in past generations. Incidentally, the most common uses of this word provide a striking contrast in how we live. Remarkably enough, the word means “live.”

Yes, we may use the word occasionally in less common ways. Nostalgically and poetically we employ it when referring to a home as an abode or when it comes in handy for rhyming. It is also used with emphasis when we declare that we will not abide a certain behavior or decision. But these uses have dropped significantly over the last century.

The two most common uses of this somewhat antiquated word in our day present a striking contrast:

  1. We use the word to call people to abide by the rules. Similarly, consumers may be required to check a box on contract stating that they will abide by terms and conditions.
  2. Christians are called to abide in Jesus Christ. Because the concept is so prominent in the Bible, it remains common in our culture.

Seeking to create a better future, every person will live in one of those two ways. Either we try to abide by the rules (and force others to abide by the rules). Or, a person will abide in Jesus Christ. In biblical terms, each person seeks to live by law or by grace. Either a person tries to improve his lot in life by what he does, or he will rest in Jesus Christ.

Abide by the rules, or abide in Christ. What will it be for you?

Trying to keep the rules of other people or live up to their expectations will crush a person. How much harder to keep God’s law? Impossible! When abiding by rules becomes our guiding principle, we end up, at best, with legions of laws…and very cold hearts.

By contrast, what does it mean to abide in Christ? Jesus teaches us in John 15. In verse 6, Jesus says, “If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.” We are to live in him, his words are to live in us, and we are to pray to him. We are to live in union with him, the living God, as we receive and rest in Christ alone for salvation. Exercising faith takes time; there is no other way.

Recently, I informally polled friends about times in life when they have felt the most a part of a group other than their family. You would not be surprised to hear their experiences. People remembered times they had been on sports teams together, rising early for practices as they reached for a common goal. They recalled times with their military unit, as they fought a common enemy with discipline. People reminisced about tight-knit groups in college that burned the midnight oil together. They listed mission teams with which they’d served others. They thought about work projects with fellow-employees. In each case, their spent hours with their mates, often living together, as they strove for a common goal. They felt most connected and really came alive only when they spent time with others.

That should teach us something of what is required if we are to abide in Christ. It will require time in his word and in prayer. It requires time for those things personally on a daily basis and it requires time as we exercise those same callings corporately with the church.

As we spend time in Christ, in his word, and in prayer, our lives are shaped by him organically. It requires exertion and discipline, but abiding in Christ is worth it. The more we live in him, the more we realize is that our only hope is that he has lived for us. Then, we really live as we are united to him by faith and abide in Jesus.

Apart from that, we’re left with only one other option: abide by the rules.

7 Visible Signs of our Love to God | Monergism

by Thomas Watson

Before all else let us remember, our love to God is a sign of his love to us. ‘We love him because he first loved us.’ I John 4: 19. By nature we have no love to God; we have hearts of stone. Ezek 36: 26. And how can any love be in hearts of stone? Our loving him is from his loving us. If the glass burn, it is because the sun has shone on it; so if our hearts burn in love, it is a sign the Sun of Righteousness has shone upon us.

The First Sign. If we love God, our desire will be after him. ‘The desire of our soul is to thy name.’ Isa 26: 8. He who loves God, breathes after communion with him. ‘My soul thirsteth for the living God.’ Psa 42: 2. Persons in love desire to be often conferring together. He who loves God, desires to be much in his presence; he loves the ordinances: they are the glass where the glory of God is resplendent; in the ordinances we meet with him whom our souls love; we have God’s smiles and whispers, and some foretastes of heaven. Such as have no desire after ordinances, have no love to God.

The second visible sign is, that he who loves God cannot find contentment in any thing without him. Give a hypocrite who pretends to love God corn and wine, and he can be content without God; but a soul fired with love to God, cannot be without him. Lovers faint away if they have not a sight of the object loved. A gracious soul can do without health, but cannot do without God, who is the health of his countenance. Psa 43: 5. If God should say to a soul that entirely loves him, ‘Take thy ease, swim in pleasure, solace thyself in the delights of the world; but thou shalt not enjoy my presence:’ this would not content it. Nay, if God should say, ‘I will let thee be taken up to heaven, but I will retire into another room, and thou shalt not see my face;’ it would not content the soul. It is hell to be without God. The philosopher says there can be no gold without the influence of the sun; certainly there can be no golden joy in the soul without God’s sweet presence and influence.

The third visible sign is that he who loves God, hates that which would separate between him and God, and that is sin. Sin makes God hide his face; it is like an incendiary, which parts chief friends; therefore, the keenness of a Christian’s hatred is set against it. ‘I hate every false way.’ Psa 119: 128. Antipathies can never be reconciled; one cannot love health but he must hate poison; so we cannot love God but we must hate sin, which would destroy our communion with him.

The fourth visible sign is sympathy. Friends that love, grieve for the evils which befall each other. Homer, describing Agamemnon’s grief, when he was forced to sacrifice his daughter, brings in all his friends weeping with him, and accompanying him to the sacrifice, in mourning. Lovers grieve together. If we have true love in our heart to God, we cannot but grieve for those things which grieve him; we shall lay to heart his dishonours; the luxury, drunkenness, contempt of God and religion. ‘Rivers of waters run down mine eyes,’ &c. Psa 119: 136. Some speak of the sins of others, and laugh at them; but they surely have no love to God who can laugh at that which grieves his Spirit! Does he love his father who can laugh to hear him reproached?

The fifth visible sign is, that he who loves God, labours to render him lovely to others. He not only admires God, but speaks in his praises, that he may allure and draw others to be in love with him. She that is in love will commend her lover. The lovesick spouse extols Christ, she makes a panegyrical oration of his worth, that she might persuade others to be in love with him. ‘His head is as the most fine gold.’ Cant 5: 11. True love to God cannot be silent, it will be eloquent in setting forth his renown. There is no better sign of loving God than to make him appear lovely, and to draw proselytes to him.

The sixth visible sign is, that he who loves God, weeps bitterly for his absence. Mary comes weeping, ‘They have taken away my Lord.’ John 20: 13. One cries, ‘My health is gone!’ another, ‘My estate is gone!’ but he who is a lover of God, cries out, ‘My God is gone! I cannot enjoy him whom I love.’ What can all worldly comforts do, when once God is absent? It is like a funeral banquet, where there is much meat, but no cheer. ‘I went mourning without the sun.’ Job 30: 28. If Rachel mourned greatly for the loss of her children, what vail or pencil can shadow out the sorrow of that Christian who has lost God’s sweet presence? Such a soul pours forth floods of tears; and while it is lamenting, seems to say thus to God, ‘Lord, thou art in heaven, hearing the melodious songs and triumph of angels; but I sit here in the valley of tears, weeping because thou art gone. Oh, when wilt thou come to me, and revive me with the light of thy countenance! Or, Lord, if thou wilt not come to me, let me come to thee, where I shall have a perpetual smile of thy face in heaven and shall never more complain, ‘My beloved has withdrawn himself.'”

The seventh visible sign is, that he who loves God is willing to do and suffer for him. He subscribes to God’s commands, he submits to his will. He subscribes to his commands. If God bids him mortify sin, love his enemies, be crucified to the world, he obeys. It is a vain thing for a man to say he loves God, and slight his commands. He submits to his will. If God would have him suffer for him, he does not dispute, but obeys. ‘Love endureth all things.’ 1 Cor 13: 7. Love made Christ suffer for us, and love will make us suffer for him. It is true that every Christian is not a martyr but he has a spirit of martyrdom in him; he has a disposition of mind to suffer, if God call him to it. ‘I am ready to be offered.’ 2 Tim 4: 6. Not only the sufferings were ready for Paul, but he was ready for the sufferings. Origin chose rather to live despised in Alexandria, than with Plotinus to deny the faith, and be great in the prince’s favour. Rev 12: 11. Many say they love God, but will not suffer the loss of anything for him. If Christ should have said to us, ‘I love you well, you are dear to me, but I cannot suffer for you, I cannot lay down my life for you,’ we should have questioned his love very much; and may not the Lord question ours, when we pretend love to him, but will endure nothing for his sake?

Use one. What shall we say to those who have not a drachm of love in their hearts to God? They have their life from him, yet do not love him. He spreads their table every day, yet they do not love him. Sinners dread God as a judge, but do not love him as a father. All the strength in the angels cannot make the heart love God; judgements will not do it; omnipotent grace only can make a stony heart melt in love. How sad is it to be void of love to God. When the body is cold, and has no heat, it is a sign of death; so he is spiritually dead who has no heat of love in his heart to God. Shall such live with God that do not love him? Will God lay an enemy in his bosom? They shall be bound in chains of darkness who will not be drawn with cords of love.

Use two. Let us be persuaded to love God with all our heart and might. O let us take our love off from other things, and place it upon God. Love is the heart of religion, the fat of the offering; it is the grace which Christ inquires most after. ‘Simon lovest thou me?’ John 21: 15. Love makes all our services acceptable, it is the musk that perfumes them. It is not so much duty, as love to duty, God delights in; therefore serving and loving God are put together. Isa 56: 6. It is better to love him than to serve him; obedience without love, is like wine without the spirit. O then, be persuaded to love God with all your heart and might.

May 23 Wednesday: God Is My Fortress

By James Boice on May 23, 2018 12:00 am

Most people who live in the West today have little appreciation for the role of the numerous wild dogs of an ancient eastern city. For us, dogs are pets for the most part, or at least guard dogs that patrol an area but are not allowed to roam wild. It was not like that in the East. Occasionally people may have had small dogs as pets. Jesus’ words to the Canaanite woman seems to imply this: “It is not right to take the children’s bread and toss it to their dogs” (Matt. 15:26). But generally the dogs of an Eastern city were wild scavengers which roamed in packs, particularly at night when they searched the streets and alleys for garbage or other food that may have been discarded by the citizens.

May 23 Beloved Enemy

In Damascus there was a disciple named Ananias. The Lord called to him in a vision, Ananias! Yes, Lord, he answered. The Lord told him, Go to the house of Judas on Straight Street and ask for a man from Tarsus named Saul, for he is praying. In a vision he has seen a man named Ananias come and place his hands on him to restore his sight. (Acts 9:10-12)

Paul has been converted. Now he is a Christian. And what is the first thing he experienced as a Christian? The life of the body of Christ. That is wonderful, is it not? Two unknown, obscure Christians are sent to him. He meets them and is immediately helped by the strengthening that can come from the body, from other Christians. First there is a man named Judas. That is all we know about him. Saul is led to his house whom he has never met before. While he is there a man named Ananias is sent to minister to him.

Is there not a joyful, poetic irony about this, that the Holy Spirit has chosen two names which are tainted names elsewhere in the New Testament, Judas and Ananias. These names belong to two other people: Judas the betrayer of our Lord; and Ananias, the first Christian to manifest the deceit and hypocrisy of an unreal life. Yet, here are two people, bearing the same names, that are honored and used of God. It is just a little touch, but it seems so much like the Holy Spirit to use names like this.

These men come and minister to Paul. Ananias was understandably reluctant to come. Saul had been ready to drag people off to prison and put them to death because they were Christians, and so he is understandably hesitant. But the Lord reassures him, telling him to go because Saul is praying.

That is the first mark of a Christian; he begins to pray. He recognizes that God rules, and there is a relationship between man and God, and so he begins to pray. God says to Ananias, You needn’t be afraid of a man who prays. Go to him, because he is praying. Thus Saul of Tarsus began to experience the joy of body life through these other Christians ministering to him.

Father, thank you for this amazing story of Saul of Tarsus. Thank you for the impact his life has had upon the world as a result of this encounter with you on the Damascus road. Thank you for this wonderful picture of one like Paul being included in the body of Christ. Teach me to include others with the same spirit of love.

Life Application
Do we tend to think of non-believers as pariahs, enemies, adversaries? Have we forgotten our own state but for God’s saving grace? Are we available to be instruments of Grace to whoever God leads us?

Secretary Pompeo’s Iran speech: Tehran hated it. But most Arab & Israeli leaders loved it. So did I. Here’s why.

Joel C. Rosenberg's Blog

Pompeo-HeritageIranSpeech(Washington, D.C.) — Iranian leaders hated it. Most European leaders hated it. So did most former advisors to President Obama and Vice President Biden, and most of Washington’s so-called “experts.” But this is hardly news.

What’s fascinating is that most Arab leaders loved it.

I’ve spoken with two very high-ranking Arab officials in recent days about the speech delivered by Secretary of State Mike Pompeo at The Heritage Foundation on Monday morning. Both made it clear to me how deeply grateful and appreciative their countries are to the Trump-Pence administration for finally taking a bold, decisive, uncompromising position against Iranian aggression.

One Arab official told me privately: “It’s like the world is sane again.”

After watching Iran be feted and praised and rewarded and appeased by President Obama and his team over the past eight years, most Sunni Arab leaders are rejoicing that the U.S. is finally treating Iran as…

Where is all the contemporary evidence for Jesus?

Running The Race

image

If Jesus existed and was so famous, we should have heard a lot more about him in historical sources outside the New Testament and the Church Fathers. The fact that so little was written about Jesus indicates that he was the creation of the church.

On the contrary, the fact that we have as much information as we do about Jesus from non-Christian sources is amazing in itself. Meier [Meie.MarJ, 7-9] and Harris [Harr.3Cruc, 24-27] have indicated several reasons why Jesus remained a “marginal Jew” about whom we have so little information:

1. As far as the historians of the day were concerned, he was just a “blip” on the screen. Jesus was not considered to be historically significant by historians of his time. He did not address the Roman Senate, or write extensive Greek philosophical treatises; He never travelled outside of the regions of Palestine, and was not a…

May 23, 2018 Afternoon Verse Of The Day

The Privilege of the Mystery

in whom we have boldness and confident access through faith in Him. Therefore I ask you not to lose heart at my tribulations on your behalf, for they are your glory. (3:12–13)

When we put our faith in Jesus Christ we can freely come to God and share in all of heaven’s unfathomable riches. In Judaism only the high priest could enter the presence of God in the Holy of Holies, and that but briefly once a year on the Day of Atonement. For anyone else to come into God’s presence meant instant death. But now, Paul says, every person who comes to Christ in faith can come before God at any time and with boldness and confident access. That is the privilege within the mystery of the church. “For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and may find grace to help in time of need” (Heb. 4:15–16).

We are not to be flippant or irreverent but are to come to the Lord with an honest, open heart—in freedom of speech and freedom of spirit. Confident access is trust that knows no fear of rejection, because we belong to Him (cf. 1 Tim. 3:13).

In light of such great privilege, Paul says, I ask you not to lose heart at my tribulations on your behalf, for they are your glory. In and through every circumstance of His children, God works His goodness, blessing, and glory. Apparently many believers grieved over Paul’s extended years of imprisonment and over the almost continual suffering he endured because of his ministry. But “I consider that the sufferings of this present time,” he explained to the Roman believers, “are not worthy to be compared with the glory that is to be revealed to us” (Rom. 8:18). And Paul’s suffering turned out for the honor rather than the disgrace of those to whom he ministered (cf. Phil. 1:12).[1]

12 Though the connection to v. 11 is not obvious, perhaps Paul here explains the consequences of this divine purpose. Not merely expressing a future promise, the verb echomen (lit., “have”; GK 2400) occurs in the present tense and stipulates believers’ present, ongoing possession of two benefits—parrēsia (NIV, “freedom”; GK 4244) and prosagōgē (NIV, “approach”; GK 4643)—with confidence. The first outcome, parrēsia, has several possible senses: frank speech; openness to the public; or boldness, confidence, courage. (This third option is most likely here and in 6:19; cf. BDAG, 781.) Christians now possess a bold sense of courage in their relationship with God. They no longer cower in fear, nor are they any longer demoralized by their shameful pasts. Second, prosagōgē signifies “access.” (Recall Paul’s use of this word in 2:18.) Along with many commentators, we probably ought to see these two nouns—“boldness” and “access”—governed as they are by one article, as a hendiadys, meaning “bold access” or “access to God in boldness” (NRSV). “Access” has a prepositional phrase modifying it—“with confidence.” This reduces to “confident access” to God (the word for “confidence,” pepoithēsei, GK 4301, is a synonym of parrēsia). All told, Paul seems to say that in Christ believers possess the ability to enter God’s presence in a bold and confident way (NIV, “with freedom and confidence”). Not even hostile powers, as formidable as they are, can deny believers access to God.

How has this remarkable state of affairs come about? Paul answers with two prepositional phrases. In Greek the verse begins with “in him” and ends with “through faith [in or of] him.” First, as we’ve come to expect in Ephesians, only by incorporation into Christ do people possess this confident access. Faith is the second key (recall 1:13; 2:8). But it is literally the “faith of him.” The genitival case “of him” puts us in a familiar dilemma. If an objective genitive, then believers have confident access to God through their faith in Christ (the option adopted by the NIV, NRSV, and the majority of interpreters). By placing their trust in Christ as the object of their faith, they have obtained salvation in Christ. Alternatively, if the use is possessive or subjective (“his faithfulness”), then believers enjoy this access to God through Christ’s faithfulness to his calling and to his task to redeem. The KJV retains the unmarked original Greek—“the faith of him”—opting for neither alternative. Paul often uses faith in Ephesians with no object stated (2:8; 3:17; 6:16, 23), where believers clearly place faith or trust in God or Christ. Christ is often the object of faith in Ephesians (though admittedly Paul expresses it more clearly using the prepositional phrase “faith in the Lord Jesus” in 1:15; cf. Col 1:4). I slightly prefer the first option: we have access through our faith in Christ, though the alternative, Christ’s faithfulness, also has much to commend.[2]

3:12 / Lest the readers conclude that the God who worked out this eternal plan is somehow removed from the everyday affairs of mankind, the apostle turns to a practical concern and reminds them that their union with Christ grants them the privilege of communicating with God (in him and through faith in him we may approach God with freedom and confidence). The words in Greek are “boldness” (parrēsia), “access” (prosagōgē), and confidence (pepoithēsis). Parrēsia is used in the nt in the context of speaking, such as boldness in proclaiming the gospel (Acts 4:31; Eph. 6:20; Phil. 1:20) and confidence in approaching God (Heb. 4:16; 10:19).

Christians have that boldness in approaching God because their faith and union with Christ have given them confidence. In Christ, all barriers have been removed that would keep the believer from approaching God openly and confidently. Christ has revealed the Father as one who has forgiven his children and who loves them. B. F. Westcott aptly comments that “the right of address and the right of access are coupled together as parts of the right of personal communion with God” (p. 49).[3]

What happens if young people stop caring about truth?

WINTERY KNIGHT

Do young women understand how to get to a stable marriage? Do young women understand how to get to a stable marriage?

I noticed that young people are often unwilling to accept anything as true, especially when it interferes with their desire to seek happiness through an anything-goes sexuality. Often, opposition to abortion and/or homosexuality is an immediate deal-breaker. Nothing can be true if it contradicts the Sexual Revolution, including abortion and homosexuality.

Sean McDowell interviewed Abdu Murray about this problem.

Excerpt:

SEAN MCDOWELL: Why did you write a book called “Saving Truth”? What makes you think truth needs saving?

ABDU MURRAY: Thanks for the opportunity to share about the book, Sean. The title is meant to be a double-entendre. In and of itself, truth doesn’t need saving but it does need to be saved in the sense that we’ve lost our emphasis on it as a culture. We’re in a “post-truth” society, which elevates personal preferences and feelings over facts…
