July 11: Best Friends Forever

1 Samuel 18:1–19:24; James 5:13–20; Psalm 120:1–7This generation has more opportunities for communication than any before it, with email and social networking making it possible to interact with others 24/7. Yet suicide rates are higher than ever, and antidepressant medications have become almost standard fare. We have more connections than ever before, but they’re not relationships. We still feel alone. People need authentic community—a sense of communing with someone—to feel whole and healthy. The story of David and Jonathan portrays the true nature of friendship: “the soul of Jonathan became attached to the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul” (1 Sam 18:1). Jonathan could easily have been jealous of his friend; David was a great warrior and had just been brought into the household of Jonathan’s father, the king, as the king’s protégé (1 Sam 17:48–58; 18:2). Instead of being jealous, Jonathan responded with love and kindness, and the two became the most steadfast friends.Authentic relationship is built on trust, which often starts when one person sacrifices himself for the other. Jonathan made such a sacrifice: “Jonathan stripped off the robe that he was wearing and gave it to David, along with his fighting attire, and even his sword, his bow, and his belt” (1 Sam 18:3–4). Because Jonathan loved David as a friend, their relationship grew into a deep-rooted loyalty. When we share that deep trust and loyalty with a friend, we can grow in God’s will together. We all need someone we can rely on; David and Jonathan demonstrate how powerful such a relationship can be. They teach us what it means to follow Yahweh with someone else at your side.In the early Church, authentic relationships were not just an idea—they were a way of life: “Is anyone among you sick? He should summon the elders of the church and they should pray over him, anointing him with olive oil in the name of the Lord” (Jas 5:14). The early Church didn’t respond to sickness or pain by saying, “I’ll pray for you.” They actually prayed. Just as Jonathan, in one swift action, gave David the honor of being like the king’s son, so the early Church swiftly took care of their own. They made friends by being loyal, as Christ was loyal to them. They created community by showing love and kindness without requiring that kindness to be returned. But the return on investment was great: It laid the foundation for a worldwide movement. How can you show authentic friendship to others?John D. Barry[1]

Willow Creek Update: On Apologies, Bad Leadership and Trouble at The Global Leadership Summit —

“Never ruin an apology with an excuse.”– Unknown

Well, the summer is hot here in Raleigh and things are also heating up in the area of abuse and churches. In the next week, we will be dropping a bombshell that will include proof of our claims. Some of you have been following things on Twitter and have an idea of what might be coming. However, the proof of what we will claim is what is important. I would ask that you pray for us and also pray for the victim in this story. I can’t comment on anything until we post the story.

In the meantime, there are some stories were need to catch up on. There are all kinds of things happening in the Willow Creek world.

The apologies from Willow Creek

Scot McKnight posted Elders Acknowledge Bill Hybels’ Sin; Heather Larson Apologizes. You can read the apology from the elders and Heather Larson. It appears that they are beginning to use the *S* word…sin on the part of Hybels. Here is part of that apology.

The women showed courage in coming forward. In full transparency of what was going on in me, one of the hardest parts for me was that I did not agree with how the information came out in the media, and I allowed that to get in the way of focusing on the pain of these women. I am sorry. I should have listened more to why the women felt like they were forced to take that path.

It was wrong to host those first family meetings and to release those initial posted statements in the way we did. We should have started by listening. As I walked out on stage that first night, I realized that the humility and tone were not right, and I have deep regrets about even holding those meetings. I said things that hurt people, and I am deeply sorry.

Steve Carter, lead teaching pastor, released his own apology on his website: An Apology. Here is part of the apology.

I recognize that I am not blameless in this. I take full responsibility for my actions that contributed to the injustice that was done to these women. I should not have been on stage for any of the family meetings, to pray or lead any part of those nights. I believe now that what our church needed initially was to practice transparency and repentance, to grieve, and to reflect on what Jesus was inviting us into and to listen to the Holy Spirit. I wish I had done more to prevent the hurtful statements that were made, and to advocate more forcefully for what I believe would have been a more humble and Biblical approach.

For this, I am deeply sorry and ask your forgiveness.

Scot McKnight then wrote Willow: Why The Women Went Public? and referred to the apologies when he said:

By any account, these apologies and admissions at least call into question the counter-accusations by Bill Hybels (of women lying, of collusion) and these apologies get close to admitting complicity of Willow (Elders and WCA Board) as an institution in the public statements about the women.

Top-down management and autonomous leadership

McKnight hit the nail on the head when he targeted top-down management and autonomous leadership as contributing WCCC’s problems.

…top-down management promotes a lack of responsibility on the part of the people, often a lack of accountability for both leader and people, a clear absence of ownership by the people, a lethargic passivity by the people, and it creates spectators of the people and performers of the leaders. The leaders develop a persona made visible by public appearances. One does not know the genuine article; one knows the personapresented on stage. For most people there is no way to find the truth of the leader’s character. Many people are marked by allegiance to the leader rather than free-flowing giftedness set free to do the work God has called them to.

…The problem of autonomous churches is autonomy at the top: too much authority in the inner circle at the top and voicelessness for too many.

Autonomy at the top breeds powermongering, and that always leads to sharing authority with like-minded who think alike and behave alike and reinforce what is alike. Many of the “not likes” then are excluded, silenced, and even afraid to speak up.

The evidence of powermongering is silencing and bullying

He believes that this sort of power structure forced the women to go outside to the Chicago Tribune and various blogs in order to be heard. McKnight uses a term I haven’t heard before. He claims what the women did was *public prophetic speech.* I agree. He believes that the initial responses by WCCC made this response inevitable and necessary.

We would not know any of the truth of this problem at Willow (Association and Elders) had they not gone public. Four years of silence, four years of nothing being known, four years when others may have spoken up. We know what we know only because the women had the courage to go public.

Notice that they did not go public right away. Rather, following the guidelines of Matthew 18, Bill was first approached by at least two women (Julia Williams, Vonda Dyer); then a few went to both Bill and the Elders – for four long years of patient attempts to get Willow to admit what had happened, what the Elders have now described as Bill “entering into areas of sin.”

A new blog

On July 4, a new blog, Rob Sp8’s Blog, began. He focused on the trouble surrounding WCCC’s well known Global Leadership Summit. He has given me permission to post it here.

I hope this post helps to get our readers up to speed on all things Willow Creek. I know there will be more stories to come.

Trouble At The Global Leadership Summit

An Open Letter to Tom DeVries

Before you read my first ever Blog post, I need to introduce myself.  After graduating from seminary I was a college chaplain and then a senior pastor — both on the east coast.  I have been a member of Willow Creek for more than 25 years. During my tenure at Willow, I served as an intern.  I assisted teaching the spiritual gifts assessment classes. I have served as a marrying pastor, funeral pastor, small group leader, section leader and response pastor.  I have attended the GLS numerous times.  Over the years, my wife and I have hosted GLS attendees from the U.S., the Netherlands (2x), and Namibia (2x).  I have invited co-workers and family members to attend the GLS and attended with them.

I am jealous for Willow Creek Church!

I do not personally have a dog in this race.

I have written emails to the elders, the WCA, and the Elder Response Team throughout this crisis beseeching them to be forthcoming.  I have had 2 phone conversations with elders. I spoke to one elder face to face after the last elder update.  And I have had a face to face meeting with members from the Elder Response Team.

But as the days march on with no apparent resolution in sight, and considering the events of this past weekend at church and now the article in the Daily Herald about the GLS, I am compelled to share more publicly.  Let me encourage you to click on the link here which contains my emails in chronological order throughout April, May, and June 2018 so that you may understand my efforts to goad the leadership of Willow Creek toward resolving this crisis.  I have tried privately, and now I am trying more publicly.

Thank you.

WC Elephant in the Room

Tom DeVries, President and CEO of the Willow Creek Association, was interviewed by The Daily Herald newspaper July 2, 2018.  After giving accolades to Bill Hybels and expressing how he will be missed at the GLS this year, he states that they’re going to address the “elephant in the room,” at the GLS.

What is the elephant in the room, Mr. DeVries, President and CEO of the Willow Creek Association?

Mr. DeVries identifies the “elephant in the room” to be:  how men and women work together in professional environments.

So that is the monster issue everyone from around the country and world is dying for the GLS to address?  That’s the elephant?

That is the elephant that is causing
a cloud of malaise
and division
and heartbreak
and confusion
at Willow Creek Church?

That is the big issue that leaders from all over the world are eagerly anticipating the GLS to tackle?  Mr. DeVries, it pains me to say that you calling that topic “the elephant in the room” lacks wisdom and discernment and is not an example of exemplary leadership.

That statement is a deflection.  It unfortunately accurately reflects how the elders have handled the last 100 days since the Willow tragedy has gone public.

Willow Creek Community Church and the Willow Creek Association have not earned the right to address hundreds of thousands of leaders from around the world on this topic.

Mr. DeVries, we are willing to listen to you address your elephant because it actually does have value.  But there are dozens of elephants in the room bigger and more formidable that need to be addressed FIRST.

There are BILL HYBELS elephants.
There are ELDERS elephants.
There are WCA elephants.

Below I will list four elephants in each of the above categories.  There are many more, but I will limit it to four. First address these, and then you will have the credibility to address your elephant.

elephant-transparent-background BILL HYBELS

  • The elephant of Bill lying when he declared that all the women lied? And that they were all lies that they spoke.
  • The elephant of Bill lying when he declared that Nancy Beach, John Ortberg, Nancy Ortberg, Vonda Dyer, Jimmy and Leanne Mellado, and Betty Schmidt all colluded against him?  He was the victim? (This is the example of leadership that you want to extol?)
  • How about the elephant of Bill refusing to confess his sin and ask for forgiveness from:

Each of the women?
Each of the beloved former Willow leaders?
The congregation of Willow Creek Community Church?
The global partners of the WCA?

  • And what about the elephants of the missing emails and texts and his abuse of power and … ?

elephant-transparent-background THE ELDERS OF WILLOW CREEK

  • The elephant of the first family meeting when they explained away all allegations against Bill and declared him innocent of all charges.  The elders deceived and fractured the entire Willow family that night.
  • The elephant of refusing to hire a totally independent third-party clergy abuse investigator to listen to the women’s stories.  Mr. DeVries, what are the elders afraid of? What might that investigation uncover that the elders want to remain hidden?
  • The elephant of refusing to say Bill had sinned until they were forced to by the courageous voice of Steve Carter, Lead Teaching Pastor of Willow, when he came forward on behalf of the women utilizing his own blog this past Friday evening 6/29/18.
  • The elephant of how poorly the elders have led and cared for the congregation through this crisis.  They have disqualified themselves. They are no longer trusted to lead. Yet they have not been humble enough to resign and thus retain at least a shred of dignity and honor.

elephant-transparent-background THE WCA

  • The elephant of being a global megaphone for the elders’ narrative of this crisis despite boasting of the WCA’s independence from Willow Creek Community Church.
  • The elephant of obfuscation in the WCA’s communications with its global family and partners (I address this issue directly in my email number 6 to the WCA)
  • The elephant of deflection in the Daily Herald article which has spurred the writing of this blog post
  • The elephant of a WCA staff member slandering Vonda Dyer to a church in Texas to keep them from pulling out as a GLS host site and the WCA refusing to correct that staff member’s slander and offer a public apology to Vonda.

Tom, addressing “how men and women can work together in professional environments” does indeed have value.  But it is not addressing the real elephants in the room.

I am sorry, Tom.  This is not good leadership.  It continues the obfuscation that has defined the way the people involved have been treated for the last 100 days … and before, by the leaders of Willow Creek Community Church and the Willow Creek Association.

Tackle some of the elephants I named above, Tom, and then it will be worthy of being called The Global Leadership Summit.

July 11 Security in Christ

“This is contained in Scripture: ‘Behold I lay in Zion a choice stone, a precious corner stone, and he who believes in Him shall not be disappointed’” (1 Peter 2:6).✧✧✧Christ is the fulfillment of all Messianic promises, and in Him you are eternally secure.First Peter 2:6 is a paraphrase of Isaiah 28:16, which says, “Thus says the Lord God, ‘Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone, a tested stone, a costly cornerstone for the foundation, firmly placed. He who believes in it will not be disturbed.‘” Isaiah was speaking of the Messiah—the coming Christ of God. Peter, writing under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, applied Isaiah’s prophecy to Jesus. In Isaiah’s prophecy, “Zion” refers to Jerusalem, which stands atop Mount Zion. Mount Zion is sometimes used figuratively in Scripture to refer to the New Covenant of grace, whereas Mount Sinai represents the Old Covenant of law. Isaiah was saying that God would establish the Messiah as the cornerstone of His New Covenant Temple, the church. The analogy of believers as stones and Christ as the cornerstone would have great meaning for the Jewish people. When the Temple in Jerusalem was built, the stones used in its construction were selected, cut, and shaped in the stone quarry according to precise plans (1 Kings 6:7). Only then were they taken to the building site and set into place. The most important stone was the cornerstone, to which the various angles of the building had to conform.God used a similar process to build His New Covenant Temple. Its stones (individual believers) are elect and shaped by the Holy Spirit to fit into God’s master plan for the church. Jesus Himself is the precious cornerstone, specially chosen and prepared by the Father to be the standard to which all others conform. He is the fulfillment of all Messianic promises and the One in whom you can trust without fear of disappointment. That means you are secure in Him!Live today in the confidence that Christ cannot fail. He will always accomplish His purposes.✧✧✧Suggestions for Prayer:  Praise God for keeping His promises and for giving you security in Christ. For Further Study: Read Galatians 4:21–31. ✧ Who was the bondwoman, and what did she represent? ✧ To whom did Paul liken believers?[1]

President Trump Tears Into EU Spending At NATO Summit, Exposes Germany’s Backroom Dealings With Russian Gas Companies — Now The End Begins

President Trump was right, The EU statistics agency Eurostat says Russia supplies 70% of Germany’s gas

President Trump was absolutely on fire today at the NATO Summit, tearing into the EU and Germany on a variety of levels. He even went so far as to say, because of their financial dealings, that ‘Germany is a captive of Russia‘. The Liberal fake news media here in the States had a predictable field day with the President’s comments, but when all the smoke finally settled, news outlets across the EU admitted that President Trump had spoken the truth.

“Germany is a captive of Russia,” Trump said at a meeting with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg. “It’s very inappropriate. I think it’s something that NATO has to look at,” Trump said. “Germany is totally controlled by Russia.”

FROM THE DAILY MAIL UK: Donald Trump’s claim that Germany imports 70 per cent of its gas from Russia at a fiery NATO summit today is correct – and the country will soon receive even more. The EU’s statistics agency, Eurostat, says that Russia is responsible for up to 75% of Germany’s total gas imports. And experts say that figure could dramatically increase after a new pipeline between Russia and Germany opens in two years time. Germany already imports 55 billion cubic meters of gas from Russia via the Nord Stream pipeline and will pump another 55 billion cubic meters through the new Nord Stream 2 network. Most of the remaining 30% comes from Norway. Germany is the world’s biggest natural gas importer and needs to import 92 percent of the gas it consumes. Trump also claimed today that Germany spends ‘billions and billions of dollars a year’ on Russian gas. In fact, Germany’s bill for Russian gas last year was 17 billion euros ($21 billion) for some 87 billion cubic meters, according to Gazprom, the state-run Russian gas company. READ MORE

How great is that? Finally, America has a president that is not afraid to confront the oligarchs of the EU and Russia, and call it like it is. Did the President step on a lot of toes, make a lot of people mad? He sure did, and I don’t know about you, but this is exactly why he got my vote in 2016.

FROM YAHOO NEWS: U.S. President Donald Trump told NATO leaders on Wednesday they should increase their defense spending to 4 percent of their country’s economic output, double the group’s current goal of two percent. “We should first get to 2 pct,” NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg, adding that eight of the 29 allies were meeting that target, while others had a plan to do – turning a leaf on years of defense budget cuts. READ MORE

President Trump also told NATO that it is well beyond time for them to step up and start contributing their fair share to the defense budget. Go get ’em, Mr. President! Compare this to Barack Obama’s speech at the Brandenburg Gate in 2008 where he declared himself to be a ‘citizen of the world‘.

Jim Jordan Goes Off! Fake News CNN Contacts Over 100 of His Former Staff and Interns Looking For Dirt — The Gateway Pundit

Representative Jim Jordan was slandered over the past week for allegedly ignoring a now dead doctor’s advances on his wrestlers when he was an assistant coach over 20 years ago.

The story appears to be another hit piece from the slanderous left and media elites.

The law firm handling this case is none other than Perkins Coie; the same law firm that represented Hillary Clinton’s campaign and paid for the fake Russia dossier.

Rep. Jim Jordan has been hammering Rosenstein and the FBI over their corruption, Russia probe and Spygate.

The Ohio Congressman also just announced his House Speakership bid plans; he’s a Freedom Caucus founder and very popular with Trump supporters.

It’s no surprise the Deep State-Obama-Hillary-Fake-News hit machine is attacking him.

On Wednesday, Rep Jim Jordan said fake news CNN is now contacting over 100 of his former staff looking for dirt on him.

Jordan asked, “how can you ever trust such fake news?”

Jim Jordan tweeted: Now @CNN is contacting all 100+ of our former staff and interns asking for dirt on me. Getting desperate! How can you ever trust such #fakenews?

We stand with Jim Jordan; these attacks only confirm he is a huge threat to the Deep State and DC establishment RINO’s.

Members of the House Freedom Caucus unanimously committed their support to their colleague’s side. Jordan is one of the founders of the group of conservative representatives.

Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord.Genesis 6:8 Grace is the goodness of God confronting human demerit. So, grace is what God is—unchanging, infinite, eternal! This throws light on God’s dealings with men and women throughout the Old Testament dispensations and history. It is certainly the truth, and a proper concept for us to hold, that no one was ever saved, no one is now saved, and no one will ever be saved except by the grace of God.Before Moses came with the Law, men were saved only by grace. During the time of Moses, no one was saved except by grace. After Moses, before the cross, and after the cross, and during all of the dispensations, anywhere, anytime, no one was ever saved by anything but the grace of God!We can say this with assurance because God dealt in grace with mankind looking forward to the Incarnation and the atoning death of Christ. If God had not always operated in grace, He would have swept the sinning human race away. This, then, is the good news: God is gracious all the time, and when His grace becomes operative through our faith in Jesus Christ, then there is the new birth from above! Thank You, Father, that by Your grace—that is, the death and resurrection of Your Son Jesus Christ—we are saved and restored to a right relationship with You.[1]

HERE SHE COMES: Get Ready As Hillary Clinton Launches ‘Onward Together’ In Preparation Of 2020 Presidential Run — Now The End Begins

She’s Hillary Clinton, after all. Does anyone doubt she goes to bed every night with the phrase ‘Madame President’ haunting her dreams?

Her husband raped and sexually assaulted multiple women over many decades, and Hillary Clinton served as his defender and protector while mocking and belittling his victims. She ran for president in 2008 and got soundly defeated by Barack Obama. Became Secretary of State in 2009, and sold political influence in exchange for donations to the Clinton Foundation. Hillary stole the nomination by conspiring with the DNC against Bernie Sanders which enabled her to run for president again in 2016. She lost to Donald Trump by a incredible 33% margin in the Electoral College, and has spent the last year and a half blaming everyone but little green men from Mars for her defeat.

In short, she is old, tired, a proven loser at the ballot box and a liability to her own party. Time for retirement? Nope. Presenting ‘Onward Together‘ the Hillary Clinton political action campaign group that is ‘dedicated to advancing the vision that earned nearly 66 million votes in the last election.’

Meet the Onward Together Partners

FROM INSIDE SOURCES: “Hillary Clinton is up to something.” So says Michael Goodwin in the NYPost, who believes that all the political signs point to a potential 2020 run by the failed, two-time candidate. Goodwin’s case is pretty direct: There’s no clear front-runner, she’s got a seasoned campaign team, she’s raising tons of money and giving it to progressive groups (the same BernieBro’s who opposed her in 2016’s primary), and the large field would let her take advantage of the “Trump” dynamic in the primary: “A crowded, diverse field diminishes the chances of anyone knocking her off. Recall how Trump outlasted 16 GOP rivals by having a committed core of supporters that grew as the field shrunk. Clinton could be in a similar position — unpopular among many, but also unbeatable by a single opponent,” Goodwin writes. And perhaps most relevant of all: She’s Hillary Clinton. Does anyone doubt she goes to bed every night with the phrase “Madame President” haunting her dreams? As Goodwin notes: “Doubters should recall the line about pols who get the presidential itch: There are only two cures — election or death.” READ MORE

Hillary Clinton defended and enabled Bill to rape and assault women

In the #MeToo generation, there is no way Hillary Clinton can again run for president without acknowledging Bill Clinton’s sexual assaults

There is no doubt that Hillary Clinton has nerves of steel, but she sold her soul a long time ago in exchange for political power, money and global influence. It didn’t matter how many women her husband sexually assaulted, abused or raped because she knew he was her ticket to the top.

Do Bill Clinton’s rape and assault victims deserve to be heard?

FROM BUSINESS INSIDER: Juanita Broaddrick, who first made the rape accusation publicly in 1999, told BuzzFeed News last year that when Clinton arrived at the hotel he asked to meet in Broaddrick’s room instead and, after he arrived, violently raped her. Broaddrick said he bloodied her lip by biting it. “There was no remorse,” Broaddrick told BuzzFeed News. “He acted like it was an everyday occurrence. He was not the least bit apologetic. It was just unreal.” READ MORE

But the rise of the #MeToo movement waits like a ticking time bomb on Hillary Clinton’s path to the nomination. People once thought untouchable because of the wealth and power – Harvey Weinstein, Bill Cosby, Matt Lauer, Charlie Rose and others – have seen their careers and fortunes stunningly derailed by the Me Too people. How will Hillary spin it when it comes around to her role in making the sexual assaults of her husband possible?

Watch as the fake news media defend and cover for the sexual assaults of Bill Clinton

But at the end of the day, Bill and Hillary Clinton are Liberal Progressive Democrats, and that means that the fake news media will defend them to the death no matter how evil and diabolical their deeds are.

Hillary Clinton taking another run for president in 2020? Yep. Get your hazmat suits ready. Who will be the next Seth Rich?

‘What We Have Is a Genocide’: Calls for U.S. Congress to Investigate Christian Slaughter in Nigeria Intensify as Conditions Worsen — Faithwire

Christians in Nigeria are facing extinction as radical Islamists lead a religious cleansing against the country’s already diminishing population.

A radical Islamic group in Nigeria known as the Fulani herdsmen have been carrying out violent attacks on Christians over the past year, ramping up their efforts in recent months.

Jesus-Followers Caught With Nets, Killed With Machetes as Islamists Unleash ‘Cleansing’ in Nigeria

A few different lobbying groups and human rights activists have called on the United States Congress to investigate the crisis.

Human rights lawyer Emmanuel Ogebe has specifically called on the United States Congress to step forward and send an envoy to Nigeria to investigate.

“Nigeria is now the deadliest place in the world to be a Christian,” Ogebe explained in a recent interview with CBN News. “What we have is a genocide. They are trying to displace the Christians, they are trying to possess their land and they are trying to impose their religion on the so-called infidels and pagans who they consider Christians to be.”

Ogebe’s comments come just weeks after 238 people were slaughtered by the Fulani herdsman in a north-central Nigerian village. Among the dead were six of his own family members, who were brutally murdered.  Four others were from the village, and two were visiting.

He described the horrific fate of one couple:

“From what we have been able to piece together, the husband and his pregnant wife, he tried to take her out of the house to safety and come back for the kids,” Ogebe said. “But they ran into the herdsmen along the way and they shot him and his pregnant wife and they went into their home and they killed their four-year-old son and their six-year-old daughter who were asleep in their beds.”

Ogebe added that when asked if relatives could bury those they lost at private grave sites, the authorities said no, and buried all victims in one mass grave.

Heroic Nigerian Muslim Leader Selflessly Saves Hundreds of Christians from Armed Islamic Militants

Felix Oisamoje, CBN’s Nigerian director, also stated that the violence towards Christians has increased in recent months, and is only worsening.

“It’s happening more in the middle-belt of the country. The reason simply because the Fulani herdsmen take their cattle into people’s farmlands, they eat of their crops on the farm and when the people challenge them, then before you know they respond with AK-47s,” Oisamoje explained.

He added that the violence carried out by the herdsman is grotesquely inhumane, often involving the liberal use of AK-47s.

Ogebe argued that the herdsman are not paying for these weapons, but that they are getting them from those higher up in Nigerian ruling power. He pointed out that after Libya’s Muammar Gaddafi was deposed in 2011, weapons such as AK-47s, mortars and grenades were spread throughout Africa.

“Given what an AK-47 goes for, a Fulani herdsman would need to sell all of his cattle to be able to buy an AK-47,” he noted.

“But even more sinister is the fact that a lot of these cattle are owned by very rich Fulanis who are in government and who are in power. So, there is a strong belief that the Fulanis, the ruling elite are actually funding the herdsmen to conduct these attacks,” said Ogebe.

He believes that if the Nigerian elite are able to eradicate Christianity in Nigeria, then they can completely dominate both in terms of land ownership and politics.

Thousands of Nigerians have been killed in barbaric attacks from the herdsman, who, according to Ogebe are targeting Christians.

In February, 38 members of a United Methodist Church were killed in Taraba — the herdsmen were suspected in the village-wide siege.

In March alone, 225 believers were killed by herdsmen. Then, in April, 18 church members and a priest were killed at a Catholic church when the herdsman attacked.

Archbishop Benjamin Kwashi, of the Anglican Church of Josh, was also attacked at his home by the herdsman. Luckily the archbishop survived, but one person was killed in the attack.

Nigerian Christians Are Being Slaughtered: 19 Dead After Latest Church Attack

Thousands are dying, yet few are even acknowledging what is very clearly genocide.

Ogebe believes that Congress needs to get involved in order to stop the mass slaughter. He also believes that the United States should stop selling sophisticated aircraft to General Buhari’s regime as long as Christians are being killed ruthlessly.

Private organizations are also getting involved, trying to aid in the crisis. Ogebe stated that a team from CBN just returned from Kagoro in north-central Nigeria, where they delivered free medical services to those in need.

“We just came back from doing a whole week of free medical services to that area because a lot of people are suffering from no medical attention,” he said.

One thing that everyone can be doing to help the crisis is by praying for the people of Nigeria.

“I think one of the things we need the most is prayers… whatever is going on right now has some kind of spiritual underpinnings and I believe if we begin to deal with it from that point, it makes it easier,” Oisamoje said. “After all, the Bible tells us that we do not war against flesh and blood, so we know there are spiritual issues, so we need to pray.”
