July 11: Best Friends Forever

1 Samuel 18:1–19:24; James 5:13–20; Psalm 120:1–7This generation has more opportunities for communication than any before it, with email and social networking making it possible to interact with others 24/7. Yet suicide rates are higher than ever, and antidepressant medications have become almost standard fare. We have more connections than ever before, but they’re not relationships. We still feel alone. People need authentic community—a sense of communing with someone—to feel whole and healthy. The story of David and Jonathan portrays the true nature of friendship: “the soul of Jonathan became attached to the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul” (1 Sam 18:1). Jonathan could easily have been jealous of his friend; David was a great warrior and had just been brought into the household of Jonathan’s father, the king, as the king’s protégé (1 Sam 17:48–58; 18:2). Instead of being jealous, Jonathan responded with love and kindness, and the two became the most steadfast friends.Authentic relationship is built on trust, which often starts when one person sacrifices himself for the other. Jonathan made such a sacrifice: “Jonathan stripped off the robe that he was wearing and gave it to David, along with his fighting attire, and even his sword, his bow, and his belt” (1 Sam 18:3–4). Because Jonathan loved David as a friend, their relationship grew into a deep-rooted loyalty. When we share that deep trust and loyalty with a friend, we can grow in God’s will together. We all need someone we can rely on; David and Jonathan demonstrate how powerful such a relationship can be. They teach us what it means to follow Yahweh with someone else at your side.In the early Church, authentic relationships were not just an idea—they were a way of life: “Is anyone among you sick? He should summon the elders of the church and they should pray over him, anointing him with olive oil in the name of the Lord” (Jas 5:14). The early Church didn’t respond to sickness or pain by saying, “I’ll pray for you.” They actually prayed. Just as Jonathan, in one swift action, gave David the honor of being like the king’s son, so the early Church swiftly took care of their own. They made friends by being loyal, as Christ was loyal to them. They created community by showing love and kindness without requiring that kindness to be returned. But the return on investment was great: It laid the foundation for a worldwide movement. How can you show authentic friendship to others?John D. Barry[1]

Willow Creek Update: On Apologies, Bad Leadership and Trouble at The Global Leadership Summit —

“Never ruin an apology with an excuse.”– Unknown

Well, the summer is hot here in Raleigh and things are also heating up in the area of abuse and churches. In the next week, we will be dropping a bombshell that will include proof of our claims. Some of you have been following things on Twitter and have an idea of what might be coming. However, the proof of what we will claim is what is important. I would ask that you pray for us and also pray for the victim in this story. I can’t comment on anything until we post the story.

In the meantime, there are some stories were need to catch up on. There are all kinds of things happening in the Willow Creek world.

The apologies from Willow Creek

Scot McKnight posted Elders Acknowledge Bill Hybels’ Sin; Heather Larson Apologizes. You can read the apology from the elders and Heather Larson. It appears that they are beginning to use the *S* word…sin on the part of Hybels. Here is part of that apology.

The women showed courage in coming forward. In full transparency of what was going on in me, one of the hardest parts for me was that I did not agree with how the information came out in the media, and I allowed that to get in the way of focusing on the pain of these women. I am sorry. I should have listened more to why the women felt like they were forced to take that path.

It was wrong to host those first family meetings and to release those initial posted statements in the way we did. We should have started by listening. As I walked out on stage that first night, I realized that the humility and tone were not right, and I have deep regrets about even holding those meetings. I said things that hurt people, and I am deeply sorry.

Steve Carter, lead teaching pastor, released his own apology on his website: An Apology. Here is part of the apology.

I recognize that I am not blameless in this. I take full responsibility for my actions that contributed to the injustice that was done to these women. I should not have been on stage for any of the family meetings, to pray or lead any part of those nights. I believe now that what our church needed initially was to practice transparency and repentance, to grieve, and to reflect on what Jesus was inviting us into and to listen to the Holy Spirit. I wish I had done more to prevent the hurtful statements that were made, and to advocate more forcefully for what I believe would have been a more humble and Biblical approach.

For this, I am deeply sorry and ask your forgiveness.

Scot McKnight then wrote Willow: Why The Women Went Public? and referred to the apologies when he said:

By any account, these apologies and admissions at least call into question the counter-accusations by Bill Hybels (of women lying, of collusion) and these apologies get close to admitting complicity of Willow (Elders and WCA Board) as an institution in the public statements about the women.

Top-down management and autonomous leadership

McKnight hit the nail on the head when he targeted top-down management and autonomous leadership as contributing WCCC’s problems.

…top-down management promotes a lack of responsibility on the part of the people, often a lack of accountability for both leader and people, a clear absence of ownership by the people, a lethargic passivity by the people, and it creates spectators of the people and performers of the leaders. The leaders develop a persona made visible by public appearances. One does not know the genuine article; one knows the personapresented on stage. For most people there is no way to find the truth of the leader’s character. Many people are marked by allegiance to the leader rather than free-flowing giftedness set free to do the work God has called them to.

…The problem of autonomous churches is autonomy at the top: too much authority in the inner circle at the top and voicelessness for too many.

Autonomy at the top breeds powermongering, and that always leads to sharing authority with like-minded who think alike and behave alike and reinforce what is alike. Many of the “not likes” then are excluded, silenced, and even afraid to speak up.

The evidence of powermongering is silencing and bullying

He believes that this sort of power structure forced the women to go outside to the Chicago Tribune and various blogs in order to be heard. McKnight uses a term I haven’t heard before. He claims what the women did was *public prophetic speech.* I agree. He believes that the initial responses by WCCC made this response inevitable and necessary.

We would not know any of the truth of this problem at Willow (Association and Elders) had they not gone public. Four years of silence, four years of nothing being known, four years when others may have spoken up. We know what we know only because the women had the courage to go public.

Notice that they did not go public right away. Rather, following the guidelines of Matthew 18, Bill was first approached by at least two women (Julia Williams, Vonda Dyer); then a few went to both Bill and the Elders – for four long years of patient attempts to get Willow to admit what had happened, what the Elders have now described as Bill “entering into areas of sin.”

A new blog

On July 4, a new blog, Rob Sp8’s Blog, began. He focused on the trouble surrounding WCCC’s well known Global Leadership Summit. He has given me permission to post it here.

I hope this post helps to get our readers up to speed on all things Willow Creek. I know there will be more stories to come.

Trouble At The Global Leadership Summit

An Open Letter to Tom DeVries

Before you read my first ever Blog post, I need to introduce myself.  After graduating from seminary I was a college chaplain and then a senior pastor — both on the east coast.  I have been a member of Willow Creek for more than 25 years. During my tenure at Willow, I served as an intern.  I assisted teaching the spiritual gifts assessment classes. I have served as a marrying pastor, funeral pastor, small group leader, section leader and response pastor.  I have attended the GLS numerous times.  Over the years, my wife and I have hosted GLS attendees from the U.S., the Netherlands (2x), and Namibia (2x).  I have invited co-workers and family members to attend the GLS and attended with them.

I am jealous for Willow Creek Church!

I do not personally have a dog in this race.

I have written emails to the elders, the WCA, and the Elder Response Team throughout this crisis beseeching them to be forthcoming.  I have had 2 phone conversations with elders. I spoke to one elder face to face after the last elder update.  And I have had a face to face meeting with members from the Elder Response Team.

But as the days march on with no apparent resolution in sight, and considering the events of this past weekend at church and now the article in the Daily Herald about the GLS, I am compelled to share more publicly.  Let me encourage you to click on the link here which contains my emails in chronological order throughout April, May, and June 2018 so that you may understand my efforts to goad the leadership of Willow Creek toward resolving this crisis.  I have tried privately, and now I am trying more publicly.

Thank you.

WC Elephant in the Room

Tom DeVries, President and CEO of the Willow Creek Association, was interviewed by The Daily Herald newspaper July 2, 2018.  After giving accolades to Bill Hybels and expressing how he will be missed at the GLS this year, he states that they’re going to address the “elephant in the room,” at the GLS.

What is the elephant in the room, Mr. DeVries, President and CEO of the Willow Creek Association?

Mr. DeVries identifies the “elephant in the room” to be:  how men and women work together in professional environments.

So that is the monster issue everyone from around the country and world is dying for the GLS to address?  That’s the elephant?

That is the elephant that is causing
a cloud of malaise
and division
and heartbreak
and confusion
at Willow Creek Church?

That is the big issue that leaders from all over the world are eagerly anticipating the GLS to tackle?  Mr. DeVries, it pains me to say that you calling that topic “the elephant in the room” lacks wisdom and discernment and is not an example of exemplary leadership.

That statement is a deflection.  It unfortunately accurately reflects how the elders have handled the last 100 days since the Willow tragedy has gone public.

Willow Creek Community Church and the Willow Creek Association have not earned the right to address hundreds of thousands of leaders from around the world on this topic.

Mr. DeVries, we are willing to listen to you address your elephant because it actually does have value.  But there are dozens of elephants in the room bigger and more formidable that need to be addressed FIRST.

There are BILL HYBELS elephants.
There are ELDERS elephants.
There are WCA elephants.

Below I will list four elephants in each of the above categories.  There are many more, but I will limit it to four. First address these, and then you will have the credibility to address your elephant.

elephant-transparent-background BILL HYBELS

  • The elephant of Bill lying when he declared that all the women lied? And that they were all lies that they spoke.
  • The elephant of Bill lying when he declared that Nancy Beach, John Ortberg, Nancy Ortberg, Vonda Dyer, Jimmy and Leanne Mellado, and Betty Schmidt all colluded against him?  He was the victim? (This is the example of leadership that you want to extol?)
  • How about the elephant of Bill refusing to confess his sin and ask for forgiveness from:

Each of the women?
Each of the beloved former Willow leaders?
The congregation of Willow Creek Community Church?
The global partners of the WCA?

  • And what about the elephants of the missing emails and texts and his abuse of power and … ?

elephant-transparent-background THE ELDERS OF WILLOW CREEK

  • The elephant of the first family meeting when they explained away all allegations against Bill and declared him innocent of all charges.  The elders deceived and fractured the entire Willow family that night.
  • The elephant of refusing to hire a totally independent third-party clergy abuse investigator to listen to the women’s stories.  Mr. DeVries, what are the elders afraid of? What might that investigation uncover that the elders want to remain hidden?
  • The elephant of refusing to say Bill had sinned until they were forced to by the courageous voice of Steve Carter, Lead Teaching Pastor of Willow, when he came forward on behalf of the women utilizing his own blog this past Friday evening 6/29/18.
  • The elephant of how poorly the elders have led and cared for the congregation through this crisis.  They have disqualified themselves. They are no longer trusted to lead. Yet they have not been humble enough to resign and thus retain at least a shred of dignity and honor.

elephant-transparent-background THE WCA

  • The elephant of being a global megaphone for the elders’ narrative of this crisis despite boasting of the WCA’s independence from Willow Creek Community Church.
  • The elephant of obfuscation in the WCA’s communications with its global family and partners (I address this issue directly in my email number 6 to the WCA)
  • The elephant of deflection in the Daily Herald article which has spurred the writing of this blog post
  • The elephant of a WCA staff member slandering Vonda Dyer to a church in Texas to keep them from pulling out as a GLS host site and the WCA refusing to correct that staff member’s slander and offer a public apology to Vonda.

Tom, addressing “how men and women can work together in professional environments” does indeed have value.  But it is not addressing the real elephants in the room.

I am sorry, Tom.  This is not good leadership.  It continues the obfuscation that has defined the way the people involved have been treated for the last 100 days … and before, by the leaders of Willow Creek Community Church and the Willow Creek Association.

Tackle some of the elephants I named above, Tom, and then it will be worthy of being called The Global Leadership Summit.

July 11 Security in Christ

“This is contained in Scripture: ‘Behold I lay in Zion a choice stone, a precious corner stone, and he who believes in Him shall not be disappointed’” (1 Peter 2:6).✧✧✧Christ is the fulfillment of all Messianic promises, and in Him you are eternally secure.First Peter 2:6 is a paraphrase of Isaiah 28:16, which says, “Thus says the Lord God, ‘Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone, a tested stone, a costly cornerstone for the foundation, firmly placed. He who believes in it will not be disturbed.‘” Isaiah was speaking of the Messiah—the coming Christ of God. Peter, writing under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, applied Isaiah’s prophecy to Jesus. In Isaiah’s prophecy, “Zion” refers to Jerusalem, which stands atop Mount Zion. Mount Zion is sometimes used figuratively in Scripture to refer to the New Covenant of grace, whereas Mount Sinai represents the Old Covenant of law. Isaiah was saying that God would establish the Messiah as the cornerstone of His New Covenant Temple, the church. The analogy of believers as stones and Christ as the cornerstone would have great meaning for the Jewish people. When the Temple in Jerusalem was built, the stones used in its construction were selected, cut, and shaped in the stone quarry according to precise plans (1 Kings 6:7). Only then were they taken to the building site and set into place. The most important stone was the cornerstone, to which the various angles of the building had to conform.God used a similar process to build His New Covenant Temple. Its stones (individual believers) are elect and shaped by the Holy Spirit to fit into God’s master plan for the church. Jesus Himself is the precious cornerstone, specially chosen and prepared by the Father to be the standard to which all others conform. He is the fulfillment of all Messianic promises and the One in whom you can trust without fear of disappointment. That means you are secure in Him!Live today in the confidence that Christ cannot fail. He will always accomplish His purposes.✧✧✧Suggestions for Prayer:  Praise God for keeping His promises and for giving you security in Christ. For Further Study: Read Galatians 4:21–31. ✧ Who was the bondwoman, and what did she represent? ✧ To whom did Paul liken believers?[1]

President Trump Tears Into EU Spending At NATO Summit, Exposes Germany’s Backroom Dealings With Russian Gas Companies — Now The End Begins

President Trump was right, The EU statistics agency Eurostat says Russia supplies 70% of Germany’s gas

President Trump was absolutely on fire today at the NATO Summit, tearing into the EU and Germany on a variety of levels. He even went so far as to say, because of their financial dealings, that ‘Germany is a captive of Russia‘. The Liberal fake news media here in the States had a predictable field day with the President’s comments, but when all the smoke finally settled, news outlets across the EU admitted that President Trump had spoken the truth.

“Germany is a captive of Russia,” Trump said at a meeting with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg. “It’s very inappropriate. I think it’s something that NATO has to look at,” Trump said. “Germany is totally controlled by Russia.”

FROM THE DAILY MAIL UK: Donald Trump’s claim that Germany imports 70 per cent of its gas from Russia at a fiery NATO summit today is correct – and the country will soon receive even more. The EU’s statistics agency, Eurostat, says that Russia is responsible for up to 75% of Germany’s total gas imports. And experts say that figure could dramatically increase after a new pipeline between Russia and Germany opens in two years time. Germany already imports 55 billion cubic meters of gas from Russia via the Nord Stream pipeline and will pump another 55 billion cubic meters through the new Nord Stream 2 network. Most of the remaining 30% comes from Norway. Germany is the world’s biggest natural gas importer and needs to import 92 percent of the gas it consumes. Trump also claimed today that Germany spends ‘billions and billions of dollars a year’ on Russian gas. In fact, Germany’s bill for Russian gas last year was 17 billion euros ($21 billion) for some 87 billion cubic meters, according to Gazprom, the state-run Russian gas company. READ MORE

How great is that? Finally, America has a president that is not afraid to confront the oligarchs of the EU and Russia, and call it like it is. Did the President step on a lot of toes, make a lot of people mad? He sure did, and I don’t know about you, but this is exactly why he got my vote in 2016.

FROM YAHOO NEWS: U.S. President Donald Trump told NATO leaders on Wednesday they should increase their defense spending to 4 percent of their country’s economic output, double the group’s current goal of two percent. “We should first get to 2 pct,” NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg, adding that eight of the 29 allies were meeting that target, while others had a plan to do – turning a leaf on years of defense budget cuts. READ MORE

President Trump also told NATO that it is well beyond time for them to step up and start contributing their fair share to the defense budget. Go get ’em, Mr. President! Compare this to Barack Obama’s speech at the Brandenburg Gate in 2008 where he declared himself to be a ‘citizen of the world‘.

Jim Jordan Goes Off! Fake News CNN Contacts Over 100 of His Former Staff and Interns Looking For Dirt — The Gateway Pundit

Representative Jim Jordan was slandered over the past week for allegedly ignoring a now dead doctor’s advances on his wrestlers when he was an assistant coach over 20 years ago.

The story appears to be another hit piece from the slanderous left and media elites.

The law firm handling this case is none other than Perkins Coie; the same law firm that represented Hillary Clinton’s campaign and paid for the fake Russia dossier.

Rep. Jim Jordan has been hammering Rosenstein and the FBI over their corruption, Russia probe and Spygate.

The Ohio Congressman also just announced his House Speakership bid plans; he’s a Freedom Caucus founder and very popular with Trump supporters.

It’s no surprise the Deep State-Obama-Hillary-Fake-News hit machine is attacking him.

On Wednesday, Rep Jim Jordan said fake news CNN is now contacting over 100 of his former staff looking for dirt on him.

Jordan asked, “how can you ever trust such fake news?”

Jim Jordan tweeted: Now @CNN is contacting all 100+ of our former staff and interns asking for dirt on me. Getting desperate! How can you ever trust such #fakenews?

We stand with Jim Jordan; these attacks only confirm he is a huge threat to the Deep State and DC establishment RINO’s.

Members of the House Freedom Caucus unanimously committed their support to their colleague’s side. Jordan is one of the founders of the group of conservative representatives.

Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord.Genesis 6:8 Grace is the goodness of God confronting human demerit. So, grace is what God is—unchanging, infinite, eternal! This throws light on God’s dealings with men and women throughout the Old Testament dispensations and history. It is certainly the truth, and a proper concept for us to hold, that no one was ever saved, no one is now saved, and no one will ever be saved except by the grace of God.Before Moses came with the Law, men were saved only by grace. During the time of Moses, no one was saved except by grace. After Moses, before the cross, and after the cross, and during all of the dispensations, anywhere, anytime, no one was ever saved by anything but the grace of God!We can say this with assurance because God dealt in grace with mankind looking forward to the Incarnation and the atoning death of Christ. If God had not always operated in grace, He would have swept the sinning human race away. This, then, is the good news: God is gracious all the time, and when His grace becomes operative through our faith in Jesus Christ, then there is the new birth from above! Thank You, Father, that by Your grace—that is, the death and resurrection of Your Son Jesus Christ—we are saved and restored to a right relationship with You.[1]

HERE SHE COMES: Get Ready As Hillary Clinton Launches ‘Onward Together’ In Preparation Of 2020 Presidential Run — Now The End Begins

She’s Hillary Clinton, after all. Does anyone doubt she goes to bed every night with the phrase ‘Madame President’ haunting her dreams?

Her husband raped and sexually assaulted multiple women over many decades, and Hillary Clinton served as his defender and protector while mocking and belittling his victims. She ran for president in 2008 and got soundly defeated by Barack Obama. Became Secretary of State in 2009, and sold political influence in exchange for donations to the Clinton Foundation. Hillary stole the nomination by conspiring with the DNC against Bernie Sanders which enabled her to run for president again in 2016. She lost to Donald Trump by a incredible 33% margin in the Electoral College, and has spent the last year and a half blaming everyone but little green men from Mars for her defeat.

In short, she is old, tired, a proven loser at the ballot box and a liability to her own party. Time for retirement? Nope. Presenting ‘Onward Together‘ the Hillary Clinton political action campaign group that is ‘dedicated to advancing the vision that earned nearly 66 million votes in the last election.’

Meet the Onward Together Partners

FROM INSIDE SOURCES: “Hillary Clinton is up to something.” So says Michael Goodwin in the NYPost, who believes that all the political signs point to a potential 2020 run by the failed, two-time candidate. Goodwin’s case is pretty direct: There’s no clear front-runner, she’s got a seasoned campaign team, she’s raising tons of money and giving it to progressive groups (the same BernieBro’s who opposed her in 2016’s primary), and the large field would let her take advantage of the “Trump” dynamic in the primary: “A crowded, diverse field diminishes the chances of anyone knocking her off. Recall how Trump outlasted 16 GOP rivals by having a committed core of supporters that grew as the field shrunk. Clinton could be in a similar position — unpopular among many, but also unbeatable by a single opponent,” Goodwin writes. And perhaps most relevant of all: She’s Hillary Clinton. Does anyone doubt she goes to bed every night with the phrase “Madame President” haunting her dreams? As Goodwin notes: “Doubters should recall the line about pols who get the presidential itch: There are only two cures — election or death.” READ MORE

Hillary Clinton defended and enabled Bill to rape and assault women

In the #MeToo generation, there is no way Hillary Clinton can again run for president without acknowledging Bill Clinton’s sexual assaults

There is no doubt that Hillary Clinton has nerves of steel, but she sold her soul a long time ago in exchange for political power, money and global influence. It didn’t matter how many women her husband sexually assaulted, abused or raped because she knew he was her ticket to the top.

Do Bill Clinton’s rape and assault victims deserve to be heard?

FROM BUSINESS INSIDER: Juanita Broaddrick, who first made the rape accusation publicly in 1999, told BuzzFeed News last year that when Clinton arrived at the hotel he asked to meet in Broaddrick’s room instead and, after he arrived, violently raped her. Broaddrick said he bloodied her lip by biting it. “There was no remorse,” Broaddrick told BuzzFeed News. “He acted like it was an everyday occurrence. He was not the least bit apologetic. It was just unreal.” READ MORE

But the rise of the #MeToo movement waits like a ticking time bomb on Hillary Clinton’s path to the nomination. People once thought untouchable because of the wealth and power – Harvey Weinstein, Bill Cosby, Matt Lauer, Charlie Rose and others – have seen their careers and fortunes stunningly derailed by the Me Too people. How will Hillary spin it when it comes around to her role in making the sexual assaults of her husband possible?

Watch as the fake news media defend and cover for the sexual assaults of Bill Clinton

But at the end of the day, Bill and Hillary Clinton are Liberal Progressive Democrats, and that means that the fake news media will defend them to the death no matter how evil and diabolical their deeds are.

Hillary Clinton taking another run for president in 2020? Yep. Get your hazmat suits ready. Who will be the next Seth Rich?

‘What We Have Is a Genocide’: Calls for U.S. Congress to Investigate Christian Slaughter in Nigeria Intensify as Conditions Worsen — Faithwire

Christians in Nigeria are facing extinction as radical Islamists lead a religious cleansing against the country’s already diminishing population.

A radical Islamic group in Nigeria known as the Fulani herdsmen have been carrying out violent attacks on Christians over the past year, ramping up their efforts in recent months.

Jesus-Followers Caught With Nets, Killed With Machetes as Islamists Unleash ‘Cleansing’ in Nigeria

A few different lobbying groups and human rights activists have called on the United States Congress to investigate the crisis.

Human rights lawyer Emmanuel Ogebe has specifically called on the United States Congress to step forward and send an envoy to Nigeria to investigate.

“Nigeria is now the deadliest place in the world to be a Christian,” Ogebe explained in a recent interview with CBN News. “What we have is a genocide. They are trying to displace the Christians, they are trying to possess their land and they are trying to impose their religion on the so-called infidels and pagans who they consider Christians to be.”

Ogebe’s comments come just weeks after 238 people were slaughtered by the Fulani herdsman in a north-central Nigerian village. Among the dead were six of his own family members, who were brutally murdered.  Four others were from the village, and two were visiting.

He described the horrific fate of one couple:

“From what we have been able to piece together, the husband and his pregnant wife, he tried to take her out of the house to safety and come back for the kids,” Ogebe said. “But they ran into the herdsmen along the way and they shot him and his pregnant wife and they went into their home and they killed their four-year-old son and their six-year-old daughter who were asleep in their beds.”

Ogebe added that when asked if relatives could bury those they lost at private grave sites, the authorities said no, and buried all victims in one mass grave.

Heroic Nigerian Muslim Leader Selflessly Saves Hundreds of Christians from Armed Islamic Militants

Felix Oisamoje, CBN’s Nigerian director, also stated that the violence towards Christians has increased in recent months, and is only worsening.

“It’s happening more in the middle-belt of the country. The reason simply because the Fulani herdsmen take their cattle into people’s farmlands, they eat of their crops on the farm and when the people challenge them, then before you know they respond with AK-47s,” Oisamoje explained.

He added that the violence carried out by the herdsman is grotesquely inhumane, often involving the liberal use of AK-47s.

Ogebe argued that the herdsman are not paying for these weapons, but that they are getting them from those higher up in Nigerian ruling power. He pointed out that after Libya’s Muammar Gaddafi was deposed in 2011, weapons such as AK-47s, mortars and grenades were spread throughout Africa.

“Given what an AK-47 goes for, a Fulani herdsman would need to sell all of his cattle to be able to buy an AK-47,” he noted.

“But even more sinister is the fact that a lot of these cattle are owned by very rich Fulanis who are in government and who are in power. So, there is a strong belief that the Fulanis, the ruling elite are actually funding the herdsmen to conduct these attacks,” said Ogebe.

He believes that if the Nigerian elite are able to eradicate Christianity in Nigeria, then they can completely dominate both in terms of land ownership and politics.

Thousands of Nigerians have been killed in barbaric attacks from the herdsman, who, according to Ogebe are targeting Christians.

In February, 38 members of a United Methodist Church were killed in Taraba — the herdsmen were suspected in the village-wide siege.

In March alone, 225 believers were killed by herdsmen. Then, in April, 18 church members and a priest were killed at a Catholic church when the herdsman attacked.

Archbishop Benjamin Kwashi, of the Anglican Church of Josh, was also attacked at his home by the herdsman. Luckily the archbishop survived, but one person was killed in the attack.

Nigerian Christians Are Being Slaughtered: 19 Dead After Latest Church Attack

Thousands are dying, yet few are even acknowledging what is very clearly genocide.

Ogebe believes that Congress needs to get involved in order to stop the mass slaughter. He also believes that the United States should stop selling sophisticated aircraft to General Buhari’s regime as long as Christians are being killed ruthlessly.

Private organizations are also getting involved, trying to aid in the crisis. Ogebe stated that a team from CBN just returned from Kagoro in north-central Nigeria, where they delivered free medical services to those in need.

“We just came back from doing a whole week of free medical services to that area because a lot of people are suffering from no medical attention,” he said.

One thing that everyone can be doing to help the crisis is by praying for the people of Nigeria.

“I think one of the things we need the most is prayers… whatever is going on right now has some kind of spiritual underpinnings and I believe if we begin to deal with it from that point, it makes it easier,” Oisamoje said. “After all, the Bible tells us that we do not war against flesh and blood, so we know there are spiritual issues, so we need to pray.”

Rev. Graham: Jimmy Carter is ‘Absolutely Wrong,’ Jesus Would Not ‘Approve Gay Marriage’

Christian leader Franklin Graham said that former President Jimmy Carter was “absolutely wrong” when he claimed in a recent interview that Jesus Christ would “approve gay marriage,” and added that the Bible “is very clear, God destroyed the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah because of homosexuality.”

Over 6,000 People Have Been Murdered in Nigeria So Far, Says CAN

ICC Note: Over 6,000 people, mostly women and children, have been murdered by the Fulani Militants in Nigeria. Civilians have been demanding the Nigerian government to take a step in stopping the attackers to do any more damage around the country. The media has also been requesting international agencies to intervene in assisting communities in neighboring countries at risk.

07/11/2018 Nigeria (Christian Today) – Church leaders in Nigeria have reported that Christians in the country are experiencing “pure genocide” as 6,000 people, mostly women and children, have been murdered by Fulani radicals since January.

“What is happening in Plateau state and other select states in Nigeria is pure genocide and must be stopped immediately,” said the Christian Association of Nigeria and church denominational heads in Plateau State in a press release.

The church leaders said that “over 6,000 persons, mostly children, women and the aged have been maimed and killed in night raids by armed Fulani herdsmen,” which is prompting their cry to the government of Nigeria “to stop this senseless and blood shedding in the land and avoid a state of complete anarchy where the people are forced to defend themselves.”

The press release also pleaded with the international community, as well as the United Nations, to intervene in the Fulani attacks, fearing they might spread to other countries as well.

“We are particularly worried at the widespread insecurity in the country where wanton attacks and killings by armed Fulani herdsmen, bandits and terrorists have been taking place on a daily basis in our communities unchallenged despite huge investments in the security agencies,” they added, saying President Muhammadu Buhari has failed to bring attackers to justice.

There Are Fears of New Conflicts at One of Israel’s Quietest Borders
A reinforced deployment of tanks and heavy guns is parked along Israel’s frontier with Syria as the civil war that transformed the balance of power in the Middle East appears headed into its final stretch. The fighting in Syria has come full circle as its army sets its sights on retaking Daraa province, where the regime’s brutal reaction to anti-government graffiti on a school wall sparked the uprising against President Bashar al-Assad in 2011.

Muslim Congress this week in Florida includes antisemitic, anti-gay, Holocaust denying speakers
No one should be surprised by this. Islamic Jew-hatred: it’s in the Quran. The death penalty for homosexuals is also well-attested in the hadith and Islamic law. So these Muslims are just being Muslims, living out their faith. The foolish American authorities who assumed that Islam was a religion of peace and that only “islamophobes” opposed the rapid influx of Muslim migrants into the U.S. are the one who are to blame. They are the ones who have made this Congress, and many others like it that are certain to come in the future, possible. They are the ones who should be held accountable at the ballot box and in the courtroom.

Muslim Democrat running for Congress calls Israel “apartheid state” and blames it for “evil doings” in Gaza
It isn’t surprising that Ilhan Omar would think this way. She is a hijab-wearing, devout Muslim, and Islamic Jew-hatred is in the Quran. What is shameful about this is that her views are mainstream in the Democrat Party today. She should never have been chosen as a candidate for Congress with hateful views of this kind, but this is the way the Democrat leadership, and the Democrat base, thinks. They want candidates like Ilhan Omar.

‘I Don’t Believe In Luck’: Arkansas Farmer Describes ‘Miracle’ That Saved Him From Horrific Tractor AccidentEldon Cooper is a walking miracle and a testament to the power of God.  This past February, he was checking on his pond on his Arkansas property when his John Deere tractor went under water, trapping him underneath. “People have said I was really lucky; that I should buy lottery tickets,” he told AG Daily. “Let me tell you, this was not luck.”

Cooper believes with all his heart that his survival was due to divine intervention.  “It was all God, it wasn’t anything I did,” he explained. “I couldn’t have saved myself, and they almost left me. They almost left me and was going to come back the next day.” Ever since the incident, Cooper has made it his mission to tell everyone about his survival, including various church groups and organizations. He refers to February 28, 2018, as “God’s Miracle.” READ MORE

Man with 500-Year Prison Sentence on a Mission to Bring ‘Dead Things Back to Life’

Posted: 11 Jul 2018 06:05 AM PDT

Man with 500-Year Prison Sentence on a Mission to Bring ‘Dead Things Back to Life’“I believe in the law. I promote the law. I stand with the law,” explained Newsom, who is also an ordained minister through Christ for the Nations. “On the other hand, there’s a place for mercy built into our law.” State officials have embraced a similar focus on rehabilitation, which has helped to make the Lone Star State a leader in prison reform. Since 2011, its crime rate has fallen and fewer Texans are behind bars (down from 156,000 in 2011 to 146,000). Texas is now on track to closing its eighth prison

facility in six years by the end of September 2017, four of which shuttered this year saving the state a projected $49.5 million.  Yet when Ron Adkins appeared before Judge Newsom in 1997, he found no such mercy. Texas is a “three strikes” law state, which aims to keep repeat offenders locked up for life. As a serial offender during an era of “tough on crime” sentencing guidelines, the jury hammered him with a whopping 495-year sentence for a string of home burglaries: 99 years for each of the five counts on which he was charged. Baby killed and dozens hurt after tornado strikes North Dakota city

Baby killed and dozens hurt after tornado strikes North Dakota cityA newborn baby was killed and more than two dozen people were injured when a tornado whipped through a North Dakota oil patch city overnight, overturning recreational vehicles and demolishing more than 100 structures, officials said Tuesday. The storm moved through Watford City, in the northwestern part of the state, shortly after midnight, hitting an RV park the hardest, according to sheriff’s officials.

About 20 of the reported 28 injured were staying at the Prairie View RV Park where high winds overturned some campers and damaged mobile homes. The McKenzie County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release late Tuesday that a 1-week-old boy died from injuries sustained when the family’s trailer home flipped in the storm. The child’s name was not immediately released. CONTINUE

Smart technology sees through walls to track and identify people

Smart technology sees through walls to track and identify peopleA group of researchers and students at MIT have developed an intelligent radar-like technology that makes it possible to see through walls to track people as they move around, a development that could prove useful for monitoring the elderly or sick as well as for other applications — but that also raises privacy concerns.

Tests show that the technology, known as RF-Pose, can reveal whether someone is walking, sitting, standing or even waving — and can identify individuals from a known group with a success rate of 83 percent. Its developers say it could prove useful for law enforcement, search and rescue, and — perhaps most important — health care. CONTINUE

STD ‘stealth’ bug which makes infertile spreading rapidly…

STD ‘stealth’ bug which makes infertile spreading rapidly…A warning has been issued about a dangerous sexually transmitted infection which is spreading rapidly. The mycoplasma genitalium bug, known as MG, makes women infertile. One in every 100 British adults aged 18 to 44 are already thought to be infected with the bug. Experts are warning that this figure is set to double within 10 years as it becomes untreatable. A total of 3,000 women a year could lose the ability to have children, the British Association of Sexual Health and HIV (BASHH) said. BASHH has published

the first official guidelines on the management of MG on Wednesday. Paddy Horner, of BASHH, told Daily Mail: “MG has the potential to become a superbug within a decade, resistant to standard antibiotics. “The greatest consequence of this is for the women who present with pelvic inflammatory disease caused by MG, which would be very hard to treat, putting them at increased risk of infertility.” READ MORE

New road signs can detect mobile phones are being used in vehicles

New road signs can detect mobile phones are being used in vehiclesRoad signs that know when a mobile phone is being used in a moving vehicle are being installed in Norfolk, in a bid to tackle usage behind the wheel. The system, which can tell the difference between active phone calls and other activities based on the strength of a signal and how long it lasts, flashes up a red warning signal to drivers when it detects a call. The technology cannot yet log number plates or be used to help catch offending drivers, but it is hoped it will act as a deterrent.

Holding a phone while driving was outlawed in the UK in 2003 but 23% of people admitted to taking a call in last year’s RAC Report on Motoring. Inspector Jonathan Chapman from Norfolk Roads Policing said: “This scheme is a good example of how we can work with local authorities to make using a mobile phone whilst driving as socially unacceptable as drink or drug-driving. 60 Churches Bombed or Burned in Burma, Facing GenocideMembers of the interfaith tolerance group gathered in Washington, DC on Tuesday to detail the plight of the Rohingya, and to warn that the Kachin also face potential ethnic cleansing.  Roberts said he was alarmed to learn that the same Burmese military units that have burned villages, and have raped and killed Rohingya ethnics in Rakhine State, are now on patrol in the Kachin State. “When you radicalize

and you create such violence among soldiers that have been raping and murdering, you just don’t turn that switch off,” he said.  He said military units have bombed or burned at least 60 churches in the past 18-months. Last October, Roberts joined Rabbi David Saperstein on a trip to assess the plight of Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh. CONTINUE

The Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), the global chemical weapons watchdog, issued a report stating that it found zero evidence that sarin nerve gas was used in an attack reported by the dubious al-Qaeda-linked White Helmets NGO group in April. The US rained airstrikes on Syria following the disputed event, which nearly led to war with Russia. Trump has authorized $6.6 million to fund the White Helmets.

The Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), the global chemical weapons watchdog, issued a report stating that it found zero evidence that sarin nerve gas was used in an attack reported by the dubious al-Qaeda-linked White Helmets NGO group in Douma, near Damascus, in April. Russia and independent reporters provided evidence that it was a staged event. A young boy who was featured in a viral video that claimed to treat victims of the alleged attack testified that he has not been poisoned and he did not know why he was sprayed with water at a hospital.

The United States, Britain and France blamed Syrian government forces and launched punitive airstrikes, and nearly went to war with Russia. The OPCW did find traces of chlorine chemicals in two facilities, but said that there was no indication that the locations were being used to produce chemical weapons.

House Freedom Caucus and 14 Former OSU Wrestlers Stand in Support of Jim Jordan Against Revolting Liberal Smear Machine — The Gateway Pundit

Representative Jim Jordan was slandered over the past week for allegedly ignoring a now dead doctor’s advances on his wrestlers when he was an assistant coach over 20 years ago.

The story appears to be another hit piece from the slanderous left and media elites.

The Hill reported today that 14 former wrestlers have come to Jordan’s defense –

Fourteen former Ohio State University wrestlers have gone on the record to refute claims that Rep. Jim Jordan ignored allegations of sexual abuse while serving as an assistant coach more than two decades ago, according to a group set up to provide a public defense for the Ohio Republican.

The wrestlers are listed in a press release sent out by the group “Stand with Jim Jordan.”

The press release lists statements from 14 members of the team and a 15th person who spoke anonymously.

Some of the statements have been given to the media, and the group aggregates the results, listing their quotations. The names and quotations defending Jordan were compiled by Shirley & Banister Public Affairs, a conservative firm which Jordan has hired to help him weather the crisis.

Defenses from wresters Lenny Schork, Rob Archer, Cullen Waugh, Ferdinand Miller, Jim Picolo, Andy Stickley, Rick Burlenski, Matt Mondalek, Stephen Mendicino, George Pardos, Michael Alf, Dan George, Jude Skove and Andrew Skove are listed.

Members of the House Freedom Caucus unanimously committed their support to their colleague’s side.  Jordan is one of the founders of the group of conservative representatives.

As previously reported, the entire story appears to be another left-wing liberal slander job against a prominent and good conservative man.  Many others feel the same way –

Former Secret Service Agent Dan Bongino rightly calls it a ‘hit job’ against Jordan –

Unfortunately, current Speaker Ryan is all for interrogating Jordan over the hit piece.  This is one of the many reasons the 2-time NCAA wrestling champion Jordan has been identified as a replacement for #NeverTrumper Ryan.

It’s clear that the left wants to damage another great American by slandering them and making up fake news and allegations about them.  Americans are now seeing through this.  This is why Donald Trump was elected President.  Americans are tired of the lying left.

Biblical Contentment in an Age of Dissatisfaction — Founders Ministries

We are living in an age of discontentment in 21st century America. However, you could argue this should not be so. America is one of the wealthiest countries in the history of the world. We are living in a time where access to information and knowledge is unlimited. In addition, we are the most socially connected generation ever. If 21st century Americans have the money, the knowledge, and the relationships, then why are they so dissatisfied? The problem of discontentment is as old as humanity, and the solution is an ancient one.

The First Discontented Human

The first record of human discontentment is found in the hearts of the very first humans. After being created, Adam and Eve enjoyed a sweet and rich relationship with their Creator. While in the garden, the first couple had everything thing they needed. They had a place to live, food to eat, and a spouse to love and cherish. Most of all, they had God, Himself. They were truly content.

Then, disruption slithered into paradise. Satan tempted Eve to disobey the command of God by eating the forbidden fruit. What was so tempting about the fruit that led to Eve’s discontentment? It was not so much the fruit, but the so-called reward of eating it. Satan promised her if she ate of it, she would then have her eyes opened and become like God. In a short matter of time, Eve went from complete contentment to sheer discontentment.

The Opposite of Contentment

What caused this great shift in Eve’s heart? To answer this question, we must ask another question. What is the opposite of contentment? You may answer, “Discontentment.” Though there is truth in that response, there is a better answer. The answer is found in God’s moral law, the Ten Commandments. More specifically, the answer is found in the 10th commandment: You shall not covet. What is the relationship between contentment and the 10th commandment? The Baptist Catechism is of aid to us here. The Baptist Catechism Q 85: Asks “What is required of the 10th commandment? It requires full contentment with our own condition.” The 10th commandment could read: You shall be content.

The opposite of contentment is covetousness. Covetousness is the desire to want what one does not have. It may include money, possessions, popularity, romantic relationships, and prestige. To covet is to focus on one’s circumstances, and primarily on what one does not have.

In the garden, Eve coveted the thought of being like God. She became discontent because she believed God was holding her back from true joy. Discontentment began with believing the lie of Satan. It began by doubting the truthfulness of God’s word and the trustworthiness of God, Himself. In her desire to eat the forbidden fruit, Eve transgressed God’s moral law by coveting.

True Contentment

Though it is helpful to know the opposite of contentment, it is even better to know the definition of contentment. It is difficult to improve upon the definition written by the Puritan, Jeremiah Burroughs, from his book, The Rare Jewel of Christian Contentment: “Christian contentment is that sweet, inward, quiet, gracious frame of spirit, which freely submits to and delights in God’s wise and fatherly disposal in every condition” (19). Jeremiah Burroughs’ definition of contentment is rooted in the Scriptures.

At the heart of true contentment is trusting and resting in God’s providence. True contentment is inward because it is not focused on our external circumstances. Jesus’ disciples struggled with contentment by being anxious and by worrying. Worrying about the future led them to being discontent. Jesus responded by teaching them, “For the gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added unto you” (Matthew 6:32-33). True contentment is when our eyes are on God and the inward work of his Spirit rather than our external circumstances.

True contentment is quiet. It is a quietness of the heart that leads to a quietness of the tongue. Murmuring and complaining about the present circumstances of life lead to discontentment. One of the saddest stories of God’s people in the Old Testament is that of the wandering Israelites in the wilderness. They had just experienced the miraculous deliverance by God from bondage to the Egyptians which included the parting of the Red Sea. They grumbled and complained because they were bitter about not being in the Promised Land yet. They believed they deserved better than the wilderness. True contentment is a quiet spirit which acknowledges your neediness rather that what you deserve.

The Only Completely Contented Person

Biblical contentment can only truly be found in the Contented One, in Christ Jesus. Unlike Eve, Jesus trusts in God’s Word. Unlike Eve, Jesus obeys God’s law. Unlike Eve, Jesus is content. Of all people, Jesus had the best reason to be discontent. His external circumstances were an unjust death of crucifixion on the Roman cross. He is the only person who actually did not deserve what he received, God’s wrath for sin. He lived the perfect life (including keeping the 10th commandment), died the death deserved for us, and rose from the grave defeating death, sin, and Satan. True contentment is only found in Christ through faith. The way Christians can battle the sin of covetousness is by joyfully resting and delighting in God’s providence by the means of joyfully trusting and treasuring Christ’s sacrificial provision.

God’s Strategy

The angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; and for that reason the holy Child shall be called the Son of God. (1:35)In response to Mary’s request for clarification, Gabriel told her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you.” The Spirit plays a prominent role in Luke’s narrative of the Lord’s birth (1:15, 41, 67; 2:25–27), and would also be the power source throughout His earthly life and ministry (cf. 3:21–22; Matt. 3:13–17; John 1:32–34). That the Holy Spirit would be involved in the creative miracle of the conception of the God-man is not surprising, since He is God and was involved in the creation of the world. When “the earth was formless and void, and darkness was over the surface of the deep, … the Spirit of God was moving over the surface of the waters” (Gen. 1:2). The Holy Spirit, the original agent of creation, would again become an agent of creation, this time in Mary’s womb. There is not the slightest suggestion in this text or anywhere else in Scripture of human sexual activity involved in the conception of the Lord Jesus Christ.Restating the profound reality of the Spirit’s involvement to underscore its significance, Gabriel said to Mary, The power of the Most High will overshadow you. The familiar Old Testament title Most High (Heb. El Elyon) depicts God as the sovereign, omnipotent ruler of heaven and earth. (See the exposition of 1:31–33 in the previous chapter of this volume.) The God who made and upholds the universe (Ps. 104:30; Col. 1:16–17) through His Spirit (Job 33:4) would create life in Mary’s womb. The verb translated will overshadow (episkiazō) is also used in the accounts of the transfiguration (Matt. 17:5; Mark 9:7; Luke 9:34) when the glory cloud descended on Peter, James, and John. It means “to surround,” “to encompass,” or in a metaphorical sense, “to influence.” The creative influence of the Spirit of God would overshadow Mary to produce a child in her womb. That divine creative miracle guaranteed that two things would be true of Mary’s Son. First, He would be a holy Child, unlike any other infant ever born. Everyone who has ever lived, with the sole exception of the Lord Jesus Christ, has been born a sinner (Job 15:14; 25:4; Eccles. 7:20; Isa. 53:6; Rom. 5:12; Gal. 3:22; cf. Gen. 3:6–13). David illustrated that truth when he wrote, “I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin my mother conceived me” (Ps. 51:5). He was not saying that he was an illegitimate child, but that from the time of his conception he was a sinner. But Christ has always been the sinless Son of God (2 Cor. 5:21; Heb. 7:26; 1 Peter 1:19; 2:22; 1 John 3:5; cf. John 8:46).Some have erroneously suggested the reason that Jesus was sinless was that He had no human father. But there is no biblical evidence that the sin nature is passed on genetically only through the father. All men and women are born sinners because “in Adam all die” (1 Cor. 15:22), since “through the one man’s [Adam’s] disobedience the many were made sinners” (Rom. 5:19). In a manner beyond human comprehension, Jesus was fully human, yet completely sinless from conception. The explanation of how that could be is shrouded in the unfathomable mystery of the incarnation.Jesus had to be the perfectly holy Son of God because His nature is that of the Holy One Himself, God the Father. That rich title is uniquely appropriate for Him, and Jesus Himself (22:70; cf. 2:49; 10:22), God the Father (3:22; 9:35), Satan (4:3, 9), the demons (4:41; 8:28), and Paul (Acts 9:20; 13:33) all applied it to Him. The title has profound implications concerning the person and work of the Lord Jesus Christ (cf. John 1:49; 3:18; Rom. 1:4; 1 John 5:20, and the exposition of 2:49 in chap. 16 of this volume). Here, however, the term is used in a more restricted sense, signifying that Jesus is by nature the Son of God manifested in human flesh. In the words of the writer of Hebrews, Christ “is the radiance of [God’s] glory and the exact representation of His nature” (1:3; John 1:14; Phil. 2:6).[1]

35 Once again (cf. v. 15), Luke mentions the Holy Spirit, as he does six more times in his first two chapters (1:41, 67, 80 [TNIV text note]; 2:25, 26, 27). The word for “overshadow” (episkiazō, GK 2173) carries the sense of the holy, powerful presence of God, as in the description of the cloud that “covered” (Heb. šākan, GK 8905; NIV, “settled upon”) the tabernacle when the tent was filled with the glory of God (Ex 40:35; cf. Ps 91:4). The word is used in all three accounts of the transfiguration to describe the overshadowing of the cloud (Mt 17:5; Mk 9:7; Lk 9:34). Likewise, in each account the voice comes out of the cloud, identifying Jesus as God’s Son—a striking reminder of Luke 1:35, where the life that results from the enveloping cloud is identified as “the Son of God.” The phrase “will be called the Son of God” does not mean that Jesus will later be recognized by those around him as the Son of God. To be called “Son of God” means simply that he is “the Son of God” (see John J. Kilgallen, “The Conception of Jesus [Luke 1:35],” Bib 78 [1997]: 232).The child whose life is thus engendered by the power of God, which power is identified as the Holy Spirit, is himself called by Gabriel “the holy one.” Because of this connection with the Holy Spirit, and because of the ethical meaning of “holy” in v. 49, this word probably relates here to the purity of Jesus instead of to separation for a divine vocation.[2]

1:35. God’s messenger had the answer. The Holy Spirit would work a miracle. This child would be born through a special miracle of God—the creation of God’s Son in a human womb. This Son of God would be different from kings in Jerusalem. He would be the holy one.[3]

35. The angel answered, The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. Thus the angel makes very clear to Mary that her conception will result from a divine, not a human, action. The answer is cast in the form of synonymous parallelism, so that “The Holy Spirit” is paired with “the power of the Most High,” and “will come upon you” with “will overshadow you.” Resultant meaning: The personal Holy Spirit will bring about this wonder in Mary’s womb by exerting his divine power. The activity here described as “coming upon” or “overshadowing” is by most commentators brought into relation with the overarching Shekinah (cloud of light), by means of which Jehovah manifested his presence from a position above the ark of the covenant and between the cherubs (Exod. 25:22; cf. 40:34–38). See also Isa. 60:2; Matt. 17:5; Luke 2:9; Rom. 9:4. This reference is probably legitimate. Nevertheless, something must perhaps be added. The overshadowing or covering of which Luke speaks here is not static but active. It is creative, productive. It causes Mary to conceive a child. Our thoughts are therefore also—and perhaps especially—directed to the Spirit of God creatively hovering over the waters at the time of creation (Gen. 1:2). In this same connection see Ps. 104:30, expressed poetically in the line: “Thy Spirit O God makes life to abound.” The overshadowing Spirit, therefore, not only protects but also creates. It brings about conception within Mary’s womb. The conclusion is very logical: Therefore also the holy offspring will be called the Son of God. Not of Joseph but of God!Does this mean that Gabriel has now made everything “perfectly clear” to Mary? Of course not. As anyone who has ever taken a course in human embryology knows, even “ordinary” conception within the human womb is veiled in mystery. See Ps. 139:13–16. Therefore this unique conception, by means of which the pre-existing Word of God assumes the human nature, surpasses human comprehension all the more. Neither God nor Gabriel demands of Mary that she must understand everything. What is required of her is only this, that she believes and willingly submits. In order to strengthen her faith the angel now directs Mary’s attention to what may well be considered another “miracle,” in order that from the acceptance of “the miraculous but not unique” (verse 36) her faith may advance (verse 35) to the acceptance of “the uniquely miraculous”:[4]

Complementarianism Isn’t Complicated: Women in Ministry — Pulpit & Pen

Complementarianism is not complicated. Complementarianism has never been complicated. It’s so simple a learning-disabled chimpanzee could figure it out through sign language. The concept has never been befuddled, muddled, muddied, blurred or beguiled. Southern Baptists – who are always positive that they are well beyond compromise or progressive Downgrade – have suddenly decided that complementarianism is some kind of weird, ill-defined doctrine with nebulous meaning that now needs more study and explanation.

I’m calling bull-hockey.

But we are finding out that defining complementarianism is much more difficult than confessing it. Application of the principles we confession in real life can be tricky, leading to conflict and division. Certainly, that has been the case recently, as we have seen in the theoretical discussion of a woman serving as SBC president. – The Company Man, Dave Miller, at SBC Voices, Complementariaism and the SBC, July 11, 2018

Miller, the Grand Poobah of the blog echo chamber at SBC Voices, makes a claim that would have been both laughable and lifted to scorn prior to the Summer 2018 SBC #MeToo Movement. Without the ability to develop original ideas or demonstrate critical thinking, one is in the prison of second-hand notions, being force-fed to swallow propaganda like gruel doled out in Guantanamo. SBC Voices is the waste can in which those force-fed ideas are then vomited back up by a bloated and inflamed gastric paunch.

The reality is that no one – no one – at SBC Voices or any other second-string blog in the SBC would have raised the notion of a “blurry” complementarianism without being clearly marked as someone who better belongs in the progressive alternative to the SBC, the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship. The idea that ecclesiastical roles of men and women are muddled is one clearly demarked as progressive and liberal (those who argue the concept is muddled never choose to err on the side of caution, but liberality).

The secular #MeToo Movement – which almost everyone now agrees has gone too far – infested the Southern Baptist Convention when Paige Patterson’s presidency at Southwestern was scuttled (probably improperly) for what generally amounts to a lack of political correctness and gender sensitivity. Since feminist voices in the SBC like (wild-eyed prophetess) Beth Moore and (animal rights activist and gay-affirming English lit professor) Karen Swallow Prior coalesced to have Patterson fired, Identity Politics activists and Critical Race Theorists like Dwight McKissic saw it as an opportunity to promote “gender minorities” in the SBC. The popular kids who are now sitting at the cool table of Social Justice quickly anted up, with new SBC president, JD Greear, saying that we should now be promoting women to the highest levels of leadership in the church.

The fact of the matter is the leaders of the Conservative Resurgence, had they heard sentiments like this, would have dismissed these individuals from any boards or trustee positions from which they served and would have given them the left-boot of fellowship. But today, it’s suddenly in vogue to consider the role of men and women as “murky.” Even worse, the term, “complementarianism” is being redefined as acknowledging any difference between men and women whatsoever.

The strategy of asking, “Yea, and hath God really said” is called “deconstruction” and you can read about that polemics term here. As I defined this strategy in October of 2016…

Deconstruction is a common tactic among many cults or sub-Christian sects. Common among the Emergent Church, Sectarian Minimalists and Restorationists in particular, the error is not confined to them and permeates the thinking of many who deny the validity of Historic Theology. Most post-modern theology engages in some degree of Deconstructionism.

Deconstructionism involves questioning and confronting the theology of the historic church, which has traditionally been defined and understood for millennia. Deconstructionism questions the values, principles, major tenets, and doctrine of a religious system in order to define terms in a new way, and reconstruct the religious system.

Deconstructionists deconstruct Christianity in order to reconstruct it to their liking. Once the religious “system” is deconstructed to its most base values or teachings and the historic or orthodox understanding of the church is cast aside, the Deconstructionist then reinterprets those values or teachings and creates an ostensibly new religion, with the name of the old religion.

Deconstruction is exactly what the bloggers at SBC Voices – like Dave Miller and Brent Hobbes – are engaged in. I highly doubt they know it, because they have all the same capacity for original opinions and constructive thoughts as a potted azalea and are simply wafting along in the current of the age, totally oblivious to what it is they’re doing. But, the roles of men and women have been well-defined for the church since, well, the church began.

I’ll let you read the trifling tripe at SBC Voices for yourself, but consider it a test-case in Deconstruction. I’ll just center in on this one statement from The Company Man.

We must also define as best we can the breaking point of complementarianism. Where do we draw the line? It seems that we have drawn the line at senior pastoral roles and perhaps that is a good place for that line to stay. But in this shape-shifting world we cannot leave that line undefined.

Of course, complementarianism has already been defined ad nauseam. Complementarianism has been so well defined that there’s been very little if any argument as to what it means; it has never been an issue. The Christian Apologetics and Research Ministry (CARM) gives a clear, concise, universally agreed-upon definition of the word…

Complementarianism is the view that males and females complement each other in their different roles and duties. In the context of Christianity, men are to be leaders in the church and the home, where women are not.

Does that seem muddled, befuddled, nebulous, confusing or blurred? Men are to be leaders in the church and home. CARM continues with their explanation

…in complementarianism, when we look at what the Bible says about the difference of roles in leadership in the church, we find that women are not to teach or exercise authority over men (1 Tim. 2:12) based upon the created order (1 Tim. 2:13). Likewise, elders are to be male (1 Tim. 3:2Titus 1:6). This difference of authoritative structure is not based on culture, but on the fact that Adam was created first.

At its heart, complementarianism is the belief that men and women are entirely equal, but that they have different but complementary roles in both the home and the church. Men are to be leaders in these institutions, and women are to help serve in supporting roles that are not vested with authority.

Miller’s belief that the “line must be drawn” is the office of “Senior Pastor” is absurd on several fronts. Complementarianism deals with the very nature – the ontology – of being male and female. It makes absolutely no logical or rational sense to say “men and women are different…but only when it comes to the office of Senior Pastor.” If men and women are by nature created by God differently, then there is no reason to limit that difference to one particular pastoral title. Complementarianism acknowledges that men and women are different innately in substance or essence. There is absolutely nothing different in substance or essence from the manufactured titles of “Senior Pastor,” “Executive Pastor,” “Worship Pastor,” “Associate Pastor,” “Pastor of Teaching and Vision” or any other purely contrived, extrabiblical garbage-title assigned to 21st Century church bureaucracy.

The Biblical line is not drawn at a title but at authority. Chiefly, women should not have authority in the church (this is the historic and orthodox position of the Christian Church). This is why Southern Baptists have never ordained women, as ordination is a sign or symbol of imputed authority. This is also why the concept of a female “Children’s Pastor” or “Women’s Pastor” is asinine because a “pastor” is – by definition – one who has been ordained. You can’t be a pastor without being ordained. Unfortunately, Southern Baptists bought into the supposition that women can hold authority or authoritatively teach or preach to other women which is an idea not at all supported by the Holy Scripture. This grave error – the normalizing of women in ministerial authority over women – is what has put Southern Baptists in the position to make the next mistake in this logical progression of error, and is what will lead them to eventually accept women as pastors (even over men). The problem is that we’ve let Beth Moore and her fellow feminists throw their bony elbows in the way and jam their painted toes in the door of church authority long enough that we can’t turn back time and repent of ever having given them a lectern.

What anyone with a modicum of an understanding of recent history needs to grasp is that the compromised position of Dave Miller, Brent Hobbes, William Thornton, and the other SBC Voices bloggers is that they’re mindlessly repeating the talking points of the egalitarian mainstream denominations circa 1950.

The only discernable distinction is that Southern Baptists will insist on calling their egalitarianism “complementarianism.” It will help them sleep better at night.
