July 14: Surprise Redemption

1 Samuel 24:1–25:44; 1 Peter 1:20–25; Psalm 125:1–127:5

We often fail to be amazed at redemption. Perhaps we’re only dimly aware of our own failings—or (worse) we are blind to how amazing it is that God has shown us grace at all.

In Psalm 126 the psalmist describes the joy that should come as a response to God’s redemption. In the past God’s restorative work had cast Israel into a state of surprised shock—they “were like dreamers” (Psa 126:1). They were filled with laughter and praise. His glory was present, and His redemption was a mighty witness to both the Israelites and the surrounding nations (Psa 126:2).

But the psalmist quickly reveals that Israel is still in need of restoration. Likely taken into captivity, the people live in hope and anticipation that God will restore them once more: “Those who sow with tears shall reap with rejoicing. He who diligently goes out with weeping, carrying the seed bag, shall certainly come in with rejoicing, carrying his sheaves” (Psa 126:5–6).

In his letter to early churches, Peter speaks about the hope that the prophets had foretold and the things that angels were curious about—the grace prepared through His Son (1 Pet 1:10–12). Peter tells them that this savior “was foreknown before the foundation of the world, but has been revealed in these last times for you” (1 Pet 1:20).

This surprise redemption is unlike any other. Its hope—Christ’s sure resurrection—gives us incredible security: We have been “born again, not from perishable seed but imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God” (1 Pet 1:23). We should be awed by this incredible hope and respond with obedience, praise, and love for our neighbor (1 Pet 1:22).

Are you awed by God’s grace?

Netanyahu Says More Coming As Israel Unleashes Sustained Barrage On Hamas Militants On The Gaza Strip — Now The End Begins

Israel launched its harshest assault against the Gaza Strip’s Hamas rulers since their 2014 war, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said, in waves of airstrikes that drew barrages of Palestinian mortar and rocket fire.

UPDATE: The Hamas terrorist organization announced Saturday that it had agreed to a ceasefire with Israel following talks with Egypt and other international bodies after Palestinians fired more than 100 rockets into Israel over the weekend and Israel carried out dozens of air strikes. “The regional and international mediation has led to an end of the current escalation between the resistance and the occupation forces,” Hamas said. “Facts on the ground will determine our continued response,” a senior Israeli defense official said following the reports.

Two Palestinian teenagers were killed in an Israeli aerial attack, health officials said, and three Israelis were wounded by fire from Gaza that landed in a border town. Israeli and Palestinian media reported efforts by international mediators including Egypt to broker a cease-fire.

Israeli military spokesman Lieutenant Jonathan Conricus said the purpose of Saturday’s operation was to stop arson attacks, attempted border breaches, and assaults on soldiers that have grown increasingly violent.

“We will intensify our attacks as needed,” Netanyahu vowed in a video message.

Volatility along the border has intensified since Gazans launched near-weekly protests against Israel in late March. Almost 140 Palestinians, some of them unarmed, have been killed in the confrontations. Militants have tried repeatedly to break through the security fence along the border, attacked soldiers, and destroyed thousands of acres of farmland and nature reserves in southern Israel with kites and balloons outfitted with firebombs and explosives.

Underground Tunnels

On Saturday, Israeli aircraft pounded dozens of Hamas targets, hitting two underground tunnels militants dug to infiltrate Israel to carry out attacks, and other compounds including a training facility and a site used to prepare kites and balloons for airborne arson attacks, the military said.

The Health Ministry in Gaza said the teenagers, ages 15 and 16, were killed by shrapnel following an Israeli attack on the training facility. Projectiles fell next to a synagogue and in the yard of a home in the Israeli town of Sderot, the Ynet news website reported. One person sustained moderate injuries and two were hurt lightly, Israel’s Magen David Adom rescue service said.

Hamas spokesman Fawzi Barhoum said the militants’ swift response to Israeli attacks was meant as a deterrent and “to force the enemy to stop the escalation.” According to the Israeli military, at least 190 mortar shells and rockets were fired at southern Israel from the Palestinian territory on Saturday, and about 37 launches were intercepted by missiles defenses.

The hostilities followed a day of protests in Gaza that included arson attacks and the wounding of an Israeli officer.

Deadly Protests

At the latest protest on Friday, two Palestinians were shot dead — a 15-year-old who tried to breach the border and an 18-year-old who died of his wounds on Saturday. The military said soldiers were attacked during the protests with grenades, explosive devices and rocks. One was moderately injured, it said.

While protest organizers have said the demonstrations that began in late March are meant to be peaceful, Israel says Gaza militants use them as cover to attack. The confrontations since March have been some of the fiercest since Israel and Gaza warred for seven weeks in 2014, the last of their three conflicts. source

Queen of England Serves Sarah Sanders Tea — Something Liberal Red Hen Refused to Do… — The Gateway Pundit

Sarah Huckabee Sanders was fortunate enough to travel with President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump to Windsor on Friday to meet the Queen of England.

She was served tea by the Queen and her staff.

Sarah Sanders tweeted about the unforgettable experience on Friday.

And to think it was only three weeks earlier that Sarah Huckabee Sanders and her family were kicked out of the little Red Hen Restaurant in Lexington, Virginia and then stalked by the owneras they went to a nearby restaurant.

BAD NEWS FOR FACEBOOK: 70% of Americans Understand Social Media Giants Censor and Suppress Political Views — The Gateway Pundit

A new Pew Research Center survey found that seven in ten Americans see how social media giants censor and quash political views.

Reuters reported:

The study comes amid an ongoing debate over the power of digital technology companies and the way they do business. Social media companies in particular, including Facebook Inc and Alphabet Inc’s Google, have recently come under scrutiny for failing to promptly tackle the problem of fake news as more Americans consume news on their platforms.

In the study of 4,594 U.S. adults, conducted between May 29 and June 11, roughly 72 percent of the respondents believed that social media platforms actively censored political views those companies found objectionable.

The perception that technology companies were politically biased and suppressed political speech was especially widespread among Republicans, the study showed.

The Gateway Pundit has repeatedly reported on tech giant censorship of conservative content.

The Gateway Pundit (TGP) reached a record number of page views in 2017.

TGP readership hit an all-time high in 2017!

We reached more than 224 million page views in 2017.  This surpassed our previous record from 2016 of 182 million page views.

We thank all our readers for all their support.

This Was Despite Unprecedented Attacks–

On the other hand, 2017 was a very challenging year for TGP.  Facebook and Twitter have often altered their platforms to prevent TGP stories from being shared.  They have employed far left operatives who deem which stories are acceptable and others they kill off before they go viral.

Stories like ‘Hillary is going to win in a landslide’, ‘Hillary is not sick’ or ‘Trump colluded with Russia’ are considered accurate news reports.

These powerful tech firms act as gatekeepers and prevent conservative content from being shared online.

In 2016 we were one of the few conservative sites that supported candidate Trump – along with Breitbart, The Drudge Report, Infowars, Zero Hedge and Conservative Treehouse.  We are proud of our efforts to report the truth that led to Trump’s historic win.

In 2017 Harvard and Columbia Journalism Review found that The Gateway Pundit was the 4th most influential conservative news source in the 2016 election.

Because of this we were targeted and have seen our numbers related to Facebook and Twitter decline dramatically.

In every single Facebook category our numbers are down. In page visits our numbers were skyrocketing before the election. Then in three distinct periods our numbers were cut off.

This had nothing to do with the quality of our posts as we have proof that ourgeneric numbers are up and and continue to increase.

In all statistical categories provided to us by Facebook our current numbers are below linear projections of where we should be.

In February Facebook launched another algorithm change to their platform. With the changes we saw our traffic dwindle even further.

We weren’t the only ones to be affected. The algorithmic change caused President Donald Trump’s engagement on Facebook posts to plummet a whopping 45%.

In contrast, according to Breitbart’sAllum Bokhari, Senators Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) and Bernie Sanders (I-VT) do not appear to have suffered a comparable decline in Facebook engagement.

This is a criminal act. Facebook took our money for advertising and promised a fair playing field. Facebook lied to us and every conservative group in America.

Today Facebook shut down all of our stories. Facebook does not like our politics. We have 634,000 Gateway Pundit Facebook fans. We are getting no traffic from Facebook.

Facebook is doing this to a number of top conservative sites we are in contact with.

July 14 Elect in Christ

“You are a chosen race” (1 Peter 2:9).

Election is the spiritual privilege from which all others flow.

Unlike those who are destined to destruction because of their rejection of Christ (1 Peter 2:8), Christians are an elect race of people, bound together by God’s redeeming grace. That’s cause for great celebration!

First Peter 2:9 is an allusion to Deuteronomy 7:6–9, which says, “You are a holy people to the Lord your God; the Lord your God has chosen you to be a people for His own possession out of all the peoples who are on the face of the earth. The Lord did not set His love on you nor choose you because you were more in number than any of the peoples, for you were the fewest of all peoples, but because the Lord loved you and kept the oath which He swore to your forefathers, the Lord brought you out by a mighty hand, and redeemed you from the house of slavery, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt. Know therefore that the Lord your God, He is God.”

Like Israel, the church is the redeemed community of God, “chosen according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, by the sanctifying work of the Spirit” (1 Peter 1:1–2). Before the foundation of the world, God placed His love on you, then brought you into His Kingdom by granting you saving grace. That’s the doctrine of election.

Many people misunderstand election, but it’s a wonderful doctrine that brings marvelous benefits. It exalts God by demonstrating His love and grace toward miserable sinners. It eliminates pride by affirming that you are totally dependent on God’s grace. It should promote such gratitude in your heart that you long to live in holiness and serve Him at any price. It should also give you joy and strength, knowing that God will never let you go and His purposes will be accomplished in you. You can face any challenge with utmost confidence in His provisions.

Rejoice in your election. Worship God, and yield to His Spirit’s leading, so His choice of you will be evident to all who know you.

Suggestions for Prayer:  What has the spiritual privilege of being chosen by God meant in your life? Express your answer to God in prayer, thanking Him for His wondrous grace.

Israel Ranks 8th Most Powerful Nation in the World — Charisma News

“For its relatively small size, the country has played a large role in global affairs.”

A prestigious USA-based magazine said that Israel is the eighth most powerful nation in the world, ahead of international heavyweights such as the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Canada, and Singapore.

“Israel, the only Jewish nation in the world, is a small country on the eastern shore of the Mediterranean Sea. For its relatively small size, the country has played a large role in global affairs. The country has a strong economy and landmarks of significance to several religions,” wrote the U.S. News and World Report‘s annual ranking of ‘Best Countries’. “Israel has a technologically advanced market economy with cut diamonds, high-technology equipment and pharmaceuticals among its major exports. The country is very highly developed in terms of life expectancy, education, per capita income and other human development index indicators.”

Following Israel was Saudi Arabia, the UAE and South Korea. Topping the list were the United States, Russia and China, according to Arutz-7.

Chiefly them that walk after the flesh…and despise government. Presumptuous are they, selfwilled.

2 Peter 2:10

Throughout history, the philosophers have pretty well agreed on the conclusion that selfish personal interest is the motive behind all human conduct.

The philosopher Epictetus illustrated his understanding with the fact that two dogs may romp on the lawn with every appearance of friendship until someone tosses a piece of raw meat between them. Instantly, their play turns into savage fight as each struggles to get the meat for himself. Let us not condemn the old thinker for comparing the conduct of men to animals. The Bible frequently does, and humbling as it may be to us, we humans often look bad by comparison.

If we would be wise in the wisdom of God, we must face up to the truth that men and women are not basically good: They are basically evil, and the essence of sin lies in their selfishness! Putting our own interests before the glory of God is sin in its Godward aspects, and the putting of our own interests before those of our fellow man is sin as it relates to society. By the cross, Jesus Christ demonstrated pure, selfless love in its fullest perfection. When He died, He set a crown of beauty upon a God-centered and an others-centered life!

Lord, as I begin this day, I pray that in every situation I will put the interests of others before my own.[1]

Gay pride, feminism, anything but Christianity – the lessons forced on our children | The Conservative Woman

by David Kurten, The Conservative Woman:

As Christianity is deliberately marginalised from national life, the powers that be have created a whole host of celebrations to fill the void left by the absence of the acknowledgement of God. These centre around equality, diversity and inclusion. Instead of Christmas, Easter, Whitsun, Michaelmas and numerous other saints’ days, we now have ‘Winterval’ and multiple opportunities to celebrate groups with protected characteristics as defined by the Equality Act 2010.

Therefore, October is Black History month, February is LGBT History month, March is Women’s History month, April 22 is Earth Day and June is LGBT Pride month. This is topped off with School Diversity Week in the first week of July, which is timed to coincide with Gay Pride weekend. School Diversity Week promotes not just LGBT issues, but also multiculturalism, mass immigration and fourth-wave feminism – the kind of feminism which is about destroying the patriarchy rather than equal opportunities. It is so diverse and inclusive that the only thing you are not allowed to celebrate is anything traditional Christian or conservative, as that would be bigoted and xenophobic – the sins of the new liberal order.

Dem Rep Lieu: Russia Indictments ‘Intentionally Done Today,’ As ‘Poke in the Eye’ to Trump | Breitbart

On Friday’s broadcast of MSNBC’s “All In,” Representative Ted Lieu (D-CA) stated he believes the announcement of the indictment of 12 Russian officers for election hacking was “intentionally done today” as a “poke in the eye” to the president, and the DOJ is “telling the American people and the whole world that Vladimir Putin is not our friend and that Russia is our adversary.” Lieu said, “I want to talk about the timing of this announcement. There is no reason Rod Rosenstein had to do this today. He could have waited two weeks. I think what really was happening is the United States Department of Justice telling the American people and the whole world that Vladimir Putin is not our friend and that Russia is our adversary. This was a complete poke in the eye to the president of the United States, and I think it was intentionally done today, and I think it’s the entire Justice Department trying to send a message, not just to the president, but to the American people.” Follow Ian Hanchett on Twitter @IanHanchett
