President Donald Trump faces a test of his political influence on Tuesday in a special congressional election in Ohio that has become a referendum on his leadership and a last chance to gauge Democratic strength ahead of November’s midterm elections.

US Reimposes Economic Sanctions on Iran
“As we continue applying maximum economic pressure on the Iranian regime,” said Trump, “I remain open to reaching a more comprehensive deal that addresses the full range of the regime’s malign activities, including its ballistic-missile program and its support for terrorism.” The new sanctions on Iran prevent any transactions with the Islamic Republic involving dollar bank notes, gold, precious metals, alumni, steel, commercial passenger aircraft and coal, as well as ending imports into the United States of Iranian carpets and food. On Nov. 5, a second round of sanctions targeting Iran’s oil industry are also set to go back into effect.

The Mendocino Complex grew to span 283,000 acres (114,526 hectares) on Monday when two wildfires merged at the southern tip of the Mendocino National Forest, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection said. Astronomers In Canada Are Baffled By Mysterious Fast Burst Radio Signals Coming From Outer Space
An observation posted last week by Patrick Boyle from Canada’s McGill University finds a radio telescope called the Canadian Hydrogen Mapping Intensity Experiment (CHIME) discovered a fast radio burst, which are short bursts of radio waves coming from beyond the Milky Way Galaxy. IDF strikes two Hamas militants after gunfire exchange near border
Two Hamas militants were killed Tuesday after the IDF shelled a Hamas position near Beit Lahiya in the northern Gaza Strip after troops came under fire while on patrol. The two men were identified by the Palestinian Ministry of Health as Ahmad Morjan and Abed el-Hafeth el-Sillawi,, both 23 year-old and members of the terror group’s military wing the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades. Another six were reported to have been injured in the shelling.

Brazil has re-opened its northern border with Venezuela to those fleeing economic and political turmoil there, after briefly closing it. The Supreme Court overturned an earlier order to shut the frontier until Brazil could put in place the right conditions to receive the huge influx of people. Authorities in the state of Roraima in Brazil’s Amazon region say some 500 Venezuelans cross the border every day.

US President Donald Trump has issued a strong warning to anyone trading with Iran, following his re-imposition of sanctions on the country. “Anyone doing business with Iran will NOT be doing business with the United States,” the president tweeted. Some re-imposed sanctions took effect overnight and tougher ones relating to oil exports will begin in November.
