September 9: As the Lion Roars

Amos 1:1–4:5; Acts 8:26–9:19; Job 19:13–29

“Surely my Lord does not do anything unless he has revealed his secret to his servants the prophets. A lion has roared! Who is not afraid? My Lord Yahweh has spoken, who will not prophesy? Proclaim to the citadel fortresses in Ashdod and the citadel fortresses in the land of Egypt and say: ‘Gather on the mountains of Samaria and see the great panic in her midst and the oppression in her midst!’ ” (Amos 3:7–9).

It’s easy to make excuses when we don’t know or understand something, and it’s equally hard to admit why. Amos declares that God’s plan and His work in the world are known to us—if we wish to learn. If we’re honest with ourselves, we have to admit that we’re not trying hard enough to learn about Him and His work. God speaks through His prophets and through His Word in the Bible, so there is no reason for us to be unaware of how He is working and how He wants to use us in the process.

What was true for the ot prophets was also true for the apostles. Through Philip, we see how God intimately involves people in His work. An angel tells Philip, “Get up and go toward the south on the road that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza” (Acts 8:26). It took great faith for Philip to do as the angel instructed. The last part of verse 26 adds, “This is a desert place.” Few people have encountered an angel, as Philip did, but each of us has the opportunity to experience direction from our Lord.

If we ask, God will answer. If we seek to learn how God is speaking, our path will become clear. Often we make this idea more complicated than it should be, but the work of the prophets and the early church demonstrate otherwise: Amos continued to tell of a fate that indeed came to pass, much of it in his lifetime. Philip took that desert road and led an Ethiopian man to Jesus. There is great, enduring hope for us to be part of God’s work if we’re willing to seek His will, listen, and act in faith.

What does God wish for you to know today?

September 9 Attacks on God’s People

“Stand firm against the schemes of the devil” (Eph. 6:11).

✧✧✧

Satan wants to catch you off-guard.

Yesterday we saw how Satan attacks God’s Word. Today we will see how he attacks God’s people. Persecution, peer pressure, and preoccupation are three weapons he employs with great effectiveness.

Persecution should never take Christians by surprise, because Scripture repeatedly warns us that it will come. For example, 2 Timothy 3:12 says, “Indeed, all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.” Yet, such warnings are often overlooked in the health, wealth, and prosperity climate of contemporary Christianity.

As the greed perpetuated by such a movement continues its assault on Christian virtue, many professing believers have come to expect a pain-free, trouble-free life. When trials come, they’re caught off-guard and are often disillusioned with the church or with God Himself. Some prove to be phony believers, whom Jesus described in His parable of the four soils—people who initially respond to the gospel with joy, yet fall away when affliction or persecution arises because of the Word (Matt. 13:21).

Satan also uses peer pressure as an effective weapon. Many people never come to Christ for fear of losing their friends or being thought of as different. Even Christians sometimes struggle with peer pressure, compromising God’s standards to avoid offending others.

Another weapon is preoccupation with the world. Often the hardest place to live the Christian life is in the easiest place. For example, becoming a Christian in America isn’t the life-threatening choice it is in some parts of the world. Some who stand boldly against persecution or peer pressure might falter in a climate of acceptance. Often that’s when the danger of spiritual complacency and preoccupation with the world is greatest.

To guard against those attacks, remember that God uses persecution to mature you and bring glory to Himself. Also, make a conscious choice each day to please God rather than people. Finally, evaluate your priorities and activities carefully. Fight the tendency to become preoccupied with things unrelated to God’s Kingdom.

Suggestions for Prayer:  Ask God to keep you spiritually alert throughout this day, so the enemy doesn’t catch you off-guard.

For Further Study: Read Matthew 26:31–56. What might the disciples have done to avoid being caught off-guard?[1]

Sunday Talks: Maria Bartiromo Interviews Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte… — The Last Refuge

Bob Goodlatte is the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee; and also the lead chairman (w/ Gowdy) of the joint House Oversight and Judiciary Committee that is conducting the interviews of witnesses for the investigation into corruption by the FBI and DOJ.   The joint committee has interviewed: Bill Priestap, Peter Strzok, Lisa Page and Bruce Ohr; no transcripts released (likely to avoid coordinated testimony).

In this morning’s interview with Maria Bartiromo Chairman Goodlatte discusses the need to interview Nellie Ohr and Fusion GPS founder Glenn Simpson voluntarily or by subpoena.  Again, note the oft-repeated “sources and methods” declassification issue.

.

Think about it.  What were the sources/methods for the Steele Dossier?  What were the sources/methods for the FISA application?  It’s the sources and methods that were/are corrupt. Declassification is futile without un-redacting the sources and methods.

Mark Levin: ‘This is a silent coup’

President Trump reading NYTimes op-ed

Thursday on his nationally syndicated radio program, LevinTV host Mark Levin discussed the New York Times’ anonymous op-ed, which the paper claimed was written by a member of the Trump administration. The writer claimed that he or she is working against the president’s agenda, with others in the administration.

“When a president is undermined from within, it is very difficult for that branch of government to function as it should, even with all the successes,” Levin said.

Levin pointed out that the number of people on whom the president can rely is getting increasingly small, since so many in the administration would rather seek self-promotion in the media.

“If there are people around the president who never have a negative story written about them, or never have any story written about them and they’re relatively senior … chances are they’re leakers,” he said.

Listen:

“And of course, any successes that the president has had is not due to him; it’s in spite of him. So in other words, the president can’t win. Even when he makes decisions, they’re not really his decisions, you know. They’re the staff’s decisions. … This is a mutiny. This is sabotage. This is a silent coup, and I’ve been talking about it since day one,” Levin said.

Google: Appeasing China, subverting America

Not only is Google working with the totalitarian Chinese government to get back into the search business in a country where no dissent is tolerated, the U.S.-based monopoly also is recommending that consumers use a security key developed by a Chinese company that is part of an “IT-Military Alliance” between the Chinese army and intelligence establishment!

So, while Google refuses to send executives to testify to the U.S. Congress about political bias, thumbs its nose at President Trump’s public concerns about the spread of “fake news,” denies any accountability regarding its search engine algorithms in the U.S. and continues its invasive privacy attacks on American consumers, the company is doing everything in its power to appease arguably the most oppressive major power on earth.

“Don’t be evil”? Don’t make me laugh.

Here are the facts:

“Our goal is to make sure that any user facing an increased risk of online attacks enrolls in the Advanced Protection Program,” says Dario Salice, advanced protection product manager at Google. What is the “Advanced Protection Program”? It uses a pair of security keys manufactured in China by Feitian, a company that is part of an “IT-Military Alliance” with the People’s Liberation Army. According to Freedom House, China is the “world’s worst abuser of internet freedom.”

In fact, Feitian’s technology has been certified as “military-use information security products.” On the company’s website Feitian boasts it “will inevitably provide earnest service to the giant military market under the grand strategy of ‘civil-military integration,’ and thus do our bit to help the construction of the nation’s informatized defensive infrastructure.”

Perhaps recommending military-approved Feitian hardware is the price Google must pay to play in the burgeoning Chinese marketplace firmly under the thumb of the fascist state where “private” corporations are tolerated as long as they do the government’s bidding.

Should any of this really surprise us?

From its genesis in the U.S., Google has demonstrated its willingness to work closely with – even for – the U.S. intelligence state to find ways to track individuals and groups online in the U.S.

As revealed in a 2017 report: “The intelligence community hoped that the nation’s leading computer scientists could take non-classified information and user data, combine it with what would become known as the internet, and begin to create for-profit, commercial enterprises to suit the needs of both the intelligence community and the public. They hoped to direct the supercomputing revolution from the start in order to make sense of what millions of human beings did inside this digital information network. That collaboration has made a comprehensive public-private mass surveillance state possible today.”

That’s right. This is how Google was formed – with research grants from the DEEP SURVEILLANCE STATE of the NSA and CIA.

Do I need to remind you how that shadowy world of American intelligence agencies has been at odds with the results of popular elections in the U.S.? Do I need to remind you how the U.S. intelligence apparatus has gone rogue on the Constitution and how it forms the very foundation of what we have come to call “the Deep State”?

Let me state this plainly: If we’re to destroy the Deep State, it’s going to require dismantling Google. Nothing short of that will do. It needs to be broken up. It’s a monopoly that doesn’t respect the rule of law and the will of the people for privacy and fair play. It isn’t accountable to the people. Google believes the people are accountable to it.

I have told you about the many ways Google is currently at war with the precepts of a free society. I have written hundreds of thousands of words about how Google is destroying the institutions of the free press, free speech and freedom of religion. Now you are beginning to hear the rest of the story of why Google, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Apple and Amazon represent, collectively and individually, the gravest of threats to the American way of life, liberty and prosperity.
