Therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.

1 Corinthians 6:20

We will never be delivered from the pride of our own selfish condition until we allow the Holy Spirit of God to demonstrate God’s own victory within us.

I have had disobedient believers assure me: “But, Mr. Tozer, I already know that I am bad. I am a believer in total depravity!” My reply: It is possible to be a confirmed believer in total depravity and still be as proud as Lucifer; to still trust in yourself in such a way that the face of God is hidden and you are kept from spiritual victory.

Our concern here is not with theological depravity. There is no argument with the fact that as soon as we are big enough to sin, we go directly into the business of sinning! But God is trying to reveal by His Holy Spirit the utter weakness of the child of God who is still putting his trust in himself.

Why does it take us so long to put our complete trust in God? He has made it so simple, so rewarding to yield what we are to Him!

Lord, enable me to yield myself fully to You so that I will experience spiritual victory. Excise any remnant of pride and self-reliance in my life.[1]

And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform.

—Romans 4:21

I must confess that in my ministry I keep repeating some of the things I know about God and His faithful promises. Why do I insist that all Christians should know for themselves the kind of God they love and serve? It is because all the promises of God rest completely upon His character.

Why do I insist that all Christians should search the Scriptures and learn as much as they can about this God who is dealing with them? It is because their faith will only spring up naturally and joyfully as they find that our God is trustworthy and fully able to perform every promise He has made….

God’s eternal blessings do not depend on how you feel today. If my eternal hope rested on how I felt physically, I might as well begin packing for a move to some other region! Even if I do not feel heavenly, my feelings in no way change my heavenly hope and prospect.

I dare not relate even a fraction of my faith and hope to my emotions of the moment and to how I feel today. My eternal hope depends on God’s well-being—on whether God Himself is able to make good on His promises. And about that there is no doubt. JMI081-083

Lord, forgive me for my faltering faith. Remind me constantly that my hope rests on Your good character, in which I have confidence. Amen. [1]

Eric Holder: Declassifying FISA documents is ‘an especially dangerous abuse of power’ – AC2 News

We have to wonder why Holder is so concerned?

That we have secret court in the United States is really a shame. FISA (as it is now) is a great example of the broad government power grab in the wake of the September 11th, 2001 crisis. FISA is part of the Swamp. A particularly dangerous part.

Why should the American people know what happened at the highest levels in the last days of the Obama administration? Better to keep things quiet, right Mr. Holder? No need to rock the crony Obama boat.

No. They cronies should be made to feel uncomfortable (at the very least) and the American people should get the full picture of what happened in the FBI and elsewhere leading up to and after the 2016 election. This MAY mean that people like Holder and perhaps other people are exposed. This could be potentially catastrophic for the Obama/Clinton crowd.

But perhaps not. The government guys, the high level government cronies, always seem to get away with it. We hear Lois Lerner is sipping Singapore slings on a cruise somewhere.

(From The Washington Times)

The 19 documents declassified would provide an insight to the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act application process, FBI interviews with DOJ official Bruce Ohr, and interview reports regarding the FISA application to conduct surveillance on former Trump campaign aide Carter Page.

Republicans contend that Mr. Ohr had a hand in organizing the Steele dossier, which they argue was the basis for spying on Mr. Page and the Russia investigation into the Trump campaign.

September 19 Daily Help

WE have each of us peculiar gifts and special manifestations; but the one object God has in view is, the perfecting of the whole body of Christ. We must, therefore, bring our spiritual possessions and lay them at the apostles’ feet, and make distribution unto all of what God has given to us. Keep back no part of the precious truth, but speak what you know, and testify what you have seen. Let not the toil, or darkness, or possible unbelief of your friends, weigh one moment in the scale. Up, and be marching to the place of duty, and there tell what great things God has shown to your soul. We too must bear our witness concerning Jesus.[1]

Ex-CIA Chief John Brennan Encourages Deep State to Defy President Trump’s Declassification Order — The Gateway Pundit

The Deep State is in an obvious panic mode since President Donald Trump ordered a number of documents relating to the Russia investigation be declassified. Joining the loud choir of those who are pushing for insubordination against the president is former CIA Director John Brennan.

Appearing on MSNBC on Tuesday, Brennan urged people in the intelligence community to ignore the president’s order. The former CIA head was stripped of his security clearance by Trump in August for his bizarre behavior.

“A number of individuals are trying to protect Mr. Trump and abusing their authorities and their powers, whether it be in Congress or within the executive branch,” Brennan said.

“And this is something that I am hoping that individuals of conscience are going to stop and prevent because I am concerned that this is just one indication that Mr. Trump is going to increasingly look for steps to take in order to further try to subvert the Mueller investigation,” Brennan continued.

Brennan joins Rep. Adam Schiff, Rep. Nancy Pelosi, Senator Mark Warner, and Senator Charles Schumer who sent a letter to the heads of the intelligence agencies demanding that they commit an act of insubordination and defy the presidential order.

“Your agencies’ review, and any communication with the White House on the substance of the material, should not proceed further until you have briefed the Gang of Eight in person,” the letter orders.

The intelligence agencies serve at the pleasure of the president — and this clearly crosses the line separating the branches of government.

On Monday, President Trump went scorched earth and ordered the DOJ to publicly release all text messages WITHOUT REDACTIONrelating to the Russia investigation from James Comey, Andrew McCabe, Bruce Ohr, Lisa Page and Peter Strzok.

On Wednesday, it was reported that the FBI and DOJ are planning redactions despite the order from the president.

“The Justice Department and FBI are expected to submit their documents and proposed redactions to the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, which will assemble all the material into a package and hand it over to the White House,” Bloomberg reports.

As the Gateway Pundit reported earlier on Tuesday, Congressional sources now fear intel agencies will slow-roll the process to frustrate President Trump and others who want these documents released to the public.

House Intel Chairman Devin Nunes said Monday evening that the FBI’s “insurance policy” that Peter Strzok and Lisa Page discussed over text message will be exposed along with other exculpatory evidence once the Carter Page FISA documents are made public.

Bill Clinton Accuser Wants FBI To Probe Violent Rape Claim After Hillary Bobbles Kavanaugh Question

Hours after Hillary Clinton sidestepped a question involving her husband’s rape allegations, one of Bill Clinton’s accusers, Juanita Broaddrick, demanded an FBI investigation into her claim that the former President committed a “forcible, brutal rape” in a Little Rock, Arkansas hotel room on April 25, 1978 in which she says Clinton nearly bit her lip off.

Broaddrick described the incident in a 2016 interview:

And he grabbed me again, very forcefully. And started biting on my top lip. And this was extremely painful. I thought he was going to bite my lip off. And that’s when he pushed me back onto the bed.

I was completely dressed. I had a skirt and a blouse. He tore the waist of my skirt. And then he ripped my pantyhose. And he raped me. It was very vicious. I was just pinned down… I did not know what to do. I was so frightened. -Juanita Broaddrick, 2016

The former nursing home administrator also claimed in January 2016 that Hillary Clinton “tried to silence” her:

Hillary dodges the question…

Appearing on MSNBC with host Rachel Maddow Tuesday night to discuss an 11th hour accusation levied against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, Clinton completely ignored the question over whether we have learned anything about “due process” in the aftermath of the Bill Clinton rape allegations.

Maddow questioned, “Your husband when he was president faced allegations that were not the same as this, certainly, but had connections to these kinds of old allegations from years ago. And I know you had concerns at the time. Your husband certainly had concerns at the time that he never really had due process to defend himself from allegations like this. Have we learned anything over the years about due process not just for the accusers but also for the accused?”

Clinton – who once tweeted that “every survivor of sexual assault deserves to be heard, believed, and supported,” promptly changed the focus from her husband to Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, who has accused Kavanaugh of an attempted rape 35 years ago – saying that Ford’s due process rights are paramount.

Hours later, Broaddrick tweeted: “If you want the FBI to go back that far @HillaryClinton @MSNBC to investigate Ford’s allegations…. let’s investigate my RAPE allegations against Bill Clinton, too.  Seems only fair.”

Broaddrick went on record in October, 2016 with Breitbart, during which the obviously shaken Clinton accuser offered vivid details of the 1970’s encounter with the then Governor of Arkansas that left her traumatized for decades.

Here are some of the vivid details from the interview.

BROADDRICK: And then as he points over my shoulder, he grabs me and turns me to him. And that was a shock. And I tried to push him away. And I only weighed about 120 pounds at that time. He was a very large man. And I kept telling him, “No. I don’t want this at all.”

And he grabbed me again, very forcefully. And started biting on my top lip. And this was extremely painful. I thought he was going to bite my lip off. And that’s when he pushed me back onto the bed.

KLEIN: He bit you at the top of your lip. He pushed you onto the bed. And then what happened?

BROADDRICK: It’s been so long and it is just so hard to go into. I need to stop.

BROADDRICK: You, know, why? Why is it still so painful?

KLEIN: What is going through your mind right now?

BROADDRICK: That I am afraid of him.

KLEIN: You are still afraid of him?

BROADDRICK: Yes. That I am still afraid. Especially if she becomes president. And I know it’s looking that way. So it’s frightening, Aaron. It’s frightening.

I was completely dressed. I had a skirt and a blouse. He tore the waist of my skirt. And then he ripped my pantyhose. And he raped me. It was very vicious. I was just pinned down… I did not know what to do. I was so frightened. I was only 35 at the time. And it was horrible. I just wanted it to be over with. So he would go away.

KLEIN: He got up?

BROADDRICK: No, he held me down for a long time. And then he did it again. I was so ready for him to leave me alone. When he started raping me again. And it was very brief… And he did get up and he straightened himself. And my mouth was bleeding and it was hurting. And he just straightens himself and goes to the door.

KLEIN: With you still on the bed?

BROADDRICK: Yes, crying. He straightens himself and he goes to the door. And puts on his sunglasses. And tells me to get some ice on that on my lip. And goes out the door.

He would push down on my left clavicle and it hurt so much I thought my clavicle was gonna break. And my lip was just ballooning out four times the size that it should have been.

KLEIN: While he was raping you?

So – FBI investigations all around?

Juanita Broaddrick, right, and

then-Arkansas Attorney

General Bill Clinton, 1978.

(CNSNews.com) — Commenting on Christine Blasey Ford’s allegation that Brett Kavanaugh assaulted her at a beer party some 36 years ago and that the FBI must investigate the matter now before she will testify about the supposed incident, Juanita Broaddrick tweeted that if the FBI goes back that far then it must also “investigate my RAPE allegations against Bill Clinton, too.”

“If you want the FBI to go back that far @HillaryClinton @MSNBC to investigate Ford’s allegations …. let’s investigate my RAPE allegations against Bill Clinton, too. Seems only fair,” Broaddrick tweeted on Sept. 18.

Juanita Broaddrick, a retired nursing home administrator, has long maintained that Bill Clinton, when he was the Arkansas Attorney General, raped her — a “forcible, brutal rape” — in a hotel room in Little Rock, Ark., on April 25, 1978. At the time, Broaddrick was 35, Clinton was 31.

(Source: Twitter.)

Clinton first met Broaddrick earlier that year during his 1978 gubernatorial campaign. Broaddrick wanted to volunteer for the campaign and Clinton invited her to stop by campaign headquarters in Little Rock. While in Little Rock for a nursing home conference, Broaddrick called the campaign office and Clinton said they should meet in the coffee shop at her hotel, the Camelot Hotel. Once there, however, Clinton suggested they have the coffee in her room to avoid reporters.

Once in the room, according to Broaddrick, Clinton chatted about some policy issues, then he forcibly kissed her.  She pushed him away, told him she was married, and that she was not interested in him.

As Broaddrick explained in an interview with NBC Dateline on Feb. 24, 1999, “Then he tries to kiss me again. And the second time he tries to kiss me he starts biting my lip … He starts to, um, bite on my top lip and I tried to pull away from him. And then he forces me down on the bed. And I just was very frightened, and I tried to get away from him and I told him ‘No,’ that I didn’t want this to happen but he wouldn’t listen to me.”

(Source: Twitter.)

“It was a real panicky, panicky situation,” she said. “I was even to the point where I was getting very noisy, you know, yelling to ‘Please stop.’ And that’s when he pressed down on my right shoulder and he would bite my lip. … When everything was over with, he got up and straightened himself, and I was crying at the moment and he walks to the door, and calmly puts on his sunglasses. And before he goes out the door he says, ‘You better get some ice on that.’ And he turned and went out the door.”

On April 25, 2018, Broaddrick tweeted, “On this morning, 40 years ago, my life changed forever. On 4-25-78, I was brutally raped by Ark AG, Bill Clinton. I have spent the majority of my life trying to forget….. and watching the Evil thrive. A timeline of that day follows….”

President Bill Clinton apparently has never denied Broaddrick’s rape allegation. His attorney, David Kendall, has denied it on Clinton’s behalf. Kendall on Feb. 19, 1999, said, “Any allegation that the president assaulted Mrs. Broaddrick more than 20 years ago is absolutely false. Beyond that, we’re not going to comment,” reported CNN on Feb. 20, 1999.

When asked about Broaddrick’s claim at a press conference, President Clinton said, “Well, my counsel has made a statement about the . . . issue, and I have nothing to add to it.” (See Washington Post, 2/25/99.)

Good, Bad, and Ugly — The Watchman’s Bagpipes

The Good:
Why did God create satan if He knew Satan would cause evil?
“Social Justice” is NOT a Gospel issue.
Laughter is Good Medicine.  Look closely at the memes!
The Bad and/or Ugly
Prayer, by Tim Keller.  More bad teachings from Keller; don’t buy the book.
Now it’s Satan’s fault that the Catholic bishops and priests were caught. I guess if Satan didn’t expose them, then everything would have been okay?!?s. Another take says it looks like the victims are being used as Satan’s accusers.
Teachings coming from The Gospel Coalition are getting worse by the day.
If your pastor does this sort of nonsense, find another church. This isn’t an issue which needs to be brought to anyone’s attention in the assembly.
I couldn’t care less about the issue of prayer in public schools; if you fight for prayer, then who’s God will be prayed to?  But homosexuality, abortion, as well as the “transgender” lie are indeed important moral issues. These “Baptists, Presbyterians, and Methodists” and Anglicans are all worshipping another god and a socialist, apostate “Jesus.”
Pat Robertson: another rank false prophet who leads people astray. Jesus will probably say to him at the end, “I never knew you.”
Matt Chandler just can’t keep to the Christian faith without attacking those who disagree with his politics; he is betraying Christ.  Chandler really seems to not understand what the Bible teaches! He is pure seeker-sensitive/market-driven mentality.
Eastern Orthodoxy — Don’t even try to tell me this is Jesus’ church!
Bill Johnson, and his ilk, betray Jesus by leading people into occult practices.

Department of Justice Responds to Latest Project Veritas Undercover Video Exposing DOJ Official ‘Resisting From Inside’ — The Gateway Pundit

On Wednesday Project Veritas released the second installment in their undercover video series unmasking the Deep State.

This video features a Department of Justice paralegal, Allison Hrabar, who reportedly uses government owned software and computers to push a socialist agenda and punish people she disagrees with.

Allison Hrabar talked about the ‘resistance from inside’ and bragged she ‘can’t get fired.’

Also featured is Jessica Schubel, the former Chief of Staff for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services during the last Obama administration.

The Department of Justice responded to Project Veritas’ latest undercover video Wednesday.

“These allegations are deeply concerning. Department policy prohibits misuse of government resources to advance personal interests. We are looking into this immediately and have referred this matter to the Inspector General as well,” said the DOJ in a statement.

FBI, DOJ To Defy Trump Order; Redactions Planned As Top ‘Deep State’ Dems Demand Insubordination

Despite President Trump’s Monday order for the “immediate declassification” of sensitive materials related to the Russia investigation, “without redaction,” the agencies involved are planning to do so anyway, according to Bloomberg, citing three people familiar with the matter.

The Justice Department, FBI and Office of the Director of National Intelligence are going through a methodical review and can’t offer a timeline for finishing, said the people, who weren’t authorized to speak publicly about the sensitive matter. –Bloomberg

Trump ordered the DOJ to release the text messages of former FBI Director James Comey, his deputy Andrew McCabe, now-fired special agent Peter Strzok, former FBI attorney Lisa Page and twice-demoted DOJ official Bruce Ohr.

Also ordered released are specific pages from the FBI’s FISA surveillance warrant application on former Trump campaign aide Carter Page, as well as interviews with Ohr.

The DOJ and the FBI are expected to submit proposed redactions to the Office of the Director of National Intelligence – which will prepare a package for Trump to sign off on.

“When the president issues such an order, it triggers a declassification review process that is conducted by various agencies within the intelligence community, in conjunction with the White House counsel, to seek to ensure the safety of America’s national security interests,” a Justice Department spokesman said in a statement. “The department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation are already working with the Director of National Intelligence to comply with the president’s order.”

The agencies are likely to cite national security concerns over revealing classified “sources and methods” pertaining to the Russia investigation – which will put them in direct conflict with Trump’s order. Trump, as president, has the power to override the agencies and declassify material on his own.

Trump’s order to release the documents comes after months of requests from GOP lawmakers, while the DOJ has repeatedly denied their requests for more transparency.

The FBI’s spy…

According to Bloomberg, the DOJ is interpreting Trump’s request to include information about the use of confidential informant (spy) Stephan Halper during the early stages of the Trump-Russia investigation. After taking in over $400,000 from the Obama Pentagon under the auspices of a research contract, Halper befriended and spied on members of the Trump campaign, including aides Carter Page and George Papadopoulos.

Top Congressional Democrats Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer, Adam Schiff and Mark Warner penned a joint letter to ODNI Director Dan Coates, Deputy AG Rod Rosenstein and FBI Director Christopher Wray demanding that the agencies defy President Trump.

In the letter, the lawmakers “express profound alarm” at the decision to “intervene in an ongoing law enforcement investigation that may implicate the President himself or those around him.”

“Any decision by your offices to share this material with the President or his lawyers will violate longstanding Department of Justice polices, as well as assurances you have provided to us.”

The letter then demands that the agencies brief the Gang of Eight before releasing the materials “to anyone at the White House.”

In short, prepare for fireworks

September 19, 2018 Afternoon Verse Of The Day

4 The NIV, probably correctly, identifies the unnamed (see MT) speaker as the “angel” of the Lord. The removal of the filthy clothes (apparently by angels—“those who were standing before him”) may connote that Joshua is thereby deprived of priestly office. If so, he is reinstated in v. 5. Theologically, however, there also seems to be a picture here of the negative aspect of what God does when he saves a person. Negatively, he takes away sin. Positively, he adds or imputes to the sinner saved by grace his own divine righteousness (cf. v. 5). The act of causing Joshua’s sin to pass from him (cf. Heb.) represents justification, not sanctification. It is forensic forgiveness that is in view, as seen from v. 9, which interprets Joshua’s cleansing by applying it to the land (i.e., the people)—another evidence that more than Joshua himself is in view here.

Next, Joshua is to be clothed with rich or fine garments—God’s representative clothed in God’s righteousness. God’s servant goes from filthy clothes to festive garments. The “rich garments” (the Hebrew word is used only here and in Isa 3:22) speak of purity, joy, and glory; but their chief significance is that they symbolize the restoration of Israel to her original calling (Ex 19:6; Isa 61:6). There is a contrast here: Joshua in filthy garments, representing Israel as a priest but defiled and unclean, versus Joshua in festive garments, representing Israel’s future glory in reconsecration to the priestly office.

“I have taken away” emphasizes the agent of the forgiveness. It is God who causes sin to be removed, ultimately on the basis of the messianic Servant’s substitutionary death. But here it was actually the Angel of the Lord who forgives sin, thus identifying him with deity (cf. Mk 2:7, 10), or at least as God’s representative.[1]

3:4 — “Take away the filthy garments from him.” And to him He said, “See, I have removed your iniquity from you, and I will clothe you with rich robes.”

God says, “put off the old man with his deeds,” and “put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him” (Col. 3:9, 10). We must wear Jesus like a garment.[2]

3:4 The removal of filthy garments by the angels (“who were standing before him”) depicted the promised future forensic justification, the salvation of the nation (cf. v. 9; 12:10–13:1; Ro 11:25–27). The High-Priest was symbolically clothed with rich robes, which spoke of righteousness imputed (cf. Is 61:10) and the restoration of Israel to her original calling (cf. Ex 19:6; Is 61:6; Ro 11:1, 2).[3]

3:4 The Lord also acts to cleanse Joshua from his iniquity. He commands his servants to remove the filthy garments, so removing Joshua’s iniquity, and to clothe Joshua in pure vestments, garments suitable for him to wear in the presence of the King of kings. Since the filthy garments represent iniquity, these “pure vestments” represent a new righteousness imputed to Joshua.

3:4 The removal of iniquity symbolizes justification in Christ (Rom. 3:23–26; 5:1).[4]

3:4 the ones standing before him Probably refers to other angels, though human associates of the priest are possible.

will clothe you with rich garments The priests were to wear specially consecrated garments (see Lev 8:7–13, 30; 16:4).[5]

3:4 Remove the filthy garments. God makes Joshua fit for the priesthood by giving new garments. In this way Joshua is a type of the coming Branch (v. 8), who will fulfill a priestly function and provide clothing of righteousness for us from His own merit.[6]

The world’s largest exporter has tried to keep crude from trading above $80 so far this year, in part because U.S. President Donald Trump sent several tweets in May and June calling for OPEC to rein in prices as they flirted with that level. During the exchanges of views, the Saudis expressed concern both about the impact of American sanctions on Iran and effect of emerging-market turmoil on oil demand growth.

Are the Washington Post and the New York Times trustworthy or fake news?

Why do people think that CNN are biased leftist clowns? Why do people think that CNN are biased leftist clowns?

If someone asked you to name the most prestigious national newspapers, you might be tempted to name the Washington Post and the New York Times. Both papers enjoy wide circulation, and they both used to have a reputation for honest journalism. But lately, people have been accusing them of publishing fake news stories in order to benefit the Democrat party. What is the truth?

Well, consider this article from The Federalist about two recent news stories, one from each paper.

The Washington Post is standing by its August 29 report that the Trump administration is cracking down on potentially fraudulent passports, although it is marked by a stunning number of reporting failures, detailed most thoroughly by The Huffington Post on Monday. Reporters and editors on the story got facts wrong, misled readers, left out key data contradicting the premise…

CLIFF KINCAID — Conservatives who backed Judge Brett Kavanaugh without examining his record are looking like complete fools. Before the sexual assault charges surfaced, he was already on record saying the atrocious Supreme Court decisions on abortion-on-demand and “gay marriage” were “settled law.” Now, his character is under assault as questions surface about the party atmosphere and secular nature of his Jesuit-run Catholic high school. Joseph Farah explains why the Pharisee’s question has much deeper meaning
JOSEPH FARAH — I have always found the story of Nicodemus, told in three separate passages in the Gospel of John, among the most fascinating stories in the Bible. Like much of Scripture, there’s a lot more to it than meets the eye. Here was a Pharisee and a member of the Sanhedrin whose very Greek name has two seemingly relevant meanings – – “Innocent Blood” and “Victory of the People.” With a name like that, Nicodemus might have been expected to be on the lookout for the Messiah who would restore the world to the way it was intended to be at Creation before the fall. Or maybe we read too much into some Bible names…. (more)

September 19 Bound to Obey

That the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.

Romans 8:4

Some people believe that since we are saved by grace and are no longer under the law, then we are no longer bound to the law. That’s true in this sense: we are not bound to the penalty of the law. Since we came to Christ, the law no longer has power to condemn or execute us. However, we are bound to its precepts, for God has not changed His morality.

The apostle Paul said, “There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus…. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death. For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending His Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh” (Rom. 8:1–3). The sacrifice of Christ freed us from the penalty of the law—He died in our place. So we are free from the law only in the sense that it cannot condemn us, yet we are still commanded to obey its precepts.[1]

September 19 Spirit–Filled Submission

“Be subject to one another in the fear of Christ.”

Ephesians 5:21

Spirit–filled believers will submit to one another.

To the world, submission implies personal weakness or the coercive dominance of one person by another stronger, more intimidating individual. Such perspectives, however, are unbiblical. The noted expositor Martyn Lloyd–Jones describes submission’s original meaning in a military context, which helps us understand its scriptural definition:

It is the picture of soldiers in a regiment, soldiers in a line under an officer … and if he [the soldier] begins to act on his own, and independently of the others, he is guilty of insubordination and will be punished accordingly. Such is the word the Apostle uses; so what he is saying amounts to this—that we who are filled with the Spirit are to behave voluntarily in that way with respect to one another. We are members of the same regiment, we are units in this same great army. We are to do that voluntarily which the soldier is “forced” to do.

In addition to Ephesians 5:21, the New Testament repeatedly expresses the importance of submitting to one another. Philippians 2:3–4 tell us how mutual submission ought to operate: “Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind let each of you regard one another as more important than himself; do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others.” And Hebrews 13:17 commands us to submit to our spiritual leaders: “Obey your leaders, and submit to them; for they keep watch over your souls, as those who will give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with grief, for this would be unprofitable for you.”

The only way we can possess any of those traits or exhibit any of that behavior is to be continuously filled with the Holy Spirit. Then we will be able to voluntarily and joyfully submit to the Lord and one another in love, just as the apostle John urges: “Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God; and every one who loves is born of God and knows God” (1 John 4:7).

Suggestions for Prayer: Examine your heart and see if your attitude has been a biblically submissive one. ✧ Ask God’s Spirit to reveal and correct any sinful shortcomings you’ve had in that regard.

For Further Study: Read Romans 12:10; 1 Corinthians 4:7; 1 Timothy 5:21; James 2:1. List comparisons and contrasts between these verses and what Philippians 2:3–4 says about mutual submission.[1]

White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders has defended her work for U.S. President Donald Trump as a Christian, insisting that the basis of the faith is that “we are all sinners.”

Sanders made the comments in a detailed profiled in The New Yorker, a hard copy of which is due to be published next week.

The in-depth piece looks at the press secretary’s upbringing, including being the daughter of former governor of Arkansas and pastor Mike Huckabee.

It points out that she and husband Bryan, along with their children, attend an evangelical church in Washington D.C. that is an affiliate of the Hillsong megachurch.

“I believe in the Bible,” Sanders said, explaining that one thing that is “non-negotiable” for her are her pro-life views.

“One of the things that makes Americans unique is that we value life. We think each life has intrinsic value and worth, whether you are a baby in the womb or an elderly woman,” she argued.

Sanders was asked how she reconciles her religious beliefs with working for Trump, who has received both praise but also strong criticism from  Christians on a variety of issues. Controversies that have dogged him include accusations that he committed adultery with a porn star and a Playboy model.

“I’m not going to my office expecting it to be my church. Frankly, if people of faith don’t get involved in the dirty process, then you’re missing the entire point of what we’re called to do. You’re not called to go into the places where everyone already thinks like you and is a believer — you have to go onto a stage where they’re not,” Sanders said in response to a question about the porn star allegations.

“You have to take that message into the darkest places, and the dirtiest places, and the most tainted and dysfunctional places. If you can influence even one person, that’s what you’re supposed to do,” she added, clarifying that she is broadly talking about her social duty as a Christian.

When it comes specifically to Trump and the views of many Americans that he needs the most help, she said, “We all need help.”

Sanders added: “That’s the whole basis of Christianity. No one is perfect. We are all sinners.”
