February 15 Shearing Suckers

Scripture Reading: John 15:1–8

Key Verse: John 15:5

I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.

Suckers are the small leafy offshoots on tomato plants. As harmless as they appear initially, they must be constantly pinched off from the main stems to produce healthy, abundant tomatoes. Permitted to grow, they divert the soil’s nutrients into leaves and stems instead of fruit.

As Christ prunes your life, He carefully removes habits, addictions, misplaced priorities, and other extraneous matters that deplete your spiritual growth. Divinely schemed, the purging is executed so that the life of Christ might saturate your soul. The more God prunes, the more you experience the power of the Holy Spirit and bear His pleasant fruit.

Do you not want more of the life of Christ? More of His peace, joy, kindness, and patience? Do you not desire to be made like Him? Know that His pruning is for this sweeping purpose.

Never forget this fundamental factor—you have been placed into Christ by God, and He has been placed into your life through the habitation of the Holy Spirit. This is the significance of Christ’s illustration of the Vine and the branches.

You are permanently and unalterably attached to the Vine. God’s shears of loving care don’t impair your fellowship with Christ. Instead, His using them is a sign of your vital union with the Vine, Jesus Christ. You belong to Him for eternity, and He has pledged Himself to constantly work for your good.

Heavenly Father, take the divine shears of Your Word and trim the suckers from my life. Strengthen my union with the Vine and make me more productive spiritually.[1]

Andrew McCabe Panics – Walks Back “60 Minutes” Remarks on Talks to Oust Trump Via 25th Amendment — The Gateway Pundit

Former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe is now walking back his remarks he made in a “60 Minutes” interview after conservatives accused him of plotting to remove President Trump from office via the 25th Amendment.

Melissa Schwartz, Comms Director for the Bromwich Group and spokeswoman for Andrew McCabe released a statement Friday morning claiming her client, McCabe, was “taken out of context and misrepresented.”

“Certain statements made by Mr. McCabe, in interviews associated with the release of his book, have been taken out of context and misrepresented,” the statement read.

McCabe’s spox added, “To clarify, at no time did Mr. McCabe participate in any extended discussions about the use of the 25th Amendment, nor is he aware of any such discussions. He was present and participated in a discussion that included a comment by Deputy Attorney General Rosenstein regarding the 25th Amendment.”

Andrew McCabe gave an interview to CBS’s “60 Minutes” which will air this Sunday as part of his PR blitz to get ahead of a potential grand jury indictment.

McCabe said in his “60 Minutes” interview that top DOJ officials were so worried over President Trump’s decision to fire corrupt Comey as FBI Director that they discussed invoking the 25th Amendment to remove Trump from office in several different meetings.

Andrew McCabe also ordered officials to open an obstruction of justice case after Trump fired Comey to see if President Trump was acting as an agent on behalf of Russia.

POLL: Should Trump Declassify The FISA Documents To Expose The Deep State?

Both of these revelations were previously reported by the media — The New York Times first reported that DAG Rod Rosenstein discussed wearing a wire to help oust Trump and in December CNN reported that McCabe opened an obstruction case before Mueller was appointed.

Rosenstein previously denied reports he planned to wear a wire and oust Trump from office as “inaccurate and factually incorrect” — on Thursday, the Justice Department released a statement reiterating Rod Rosenstein’s denial he plotted to remove President Trump.

“The Deputy Attorney General never authorized any recording that Mr. McCabe references. As the Deputy Attorney General previously has stated, based on his personal dealings with the President, there is no basis to invoke the 25th Amendment, nor was the DAG in a position to consider invoking the 25th Amendment,” a DOJ spox said on Thursday.

McCabe is walking back his remarks after prominent conservatives came out and called it what it is — AN ATTEMPTED COUP.

Senate Judiciary Chairman Lindsey Graham said on Thursday he is seeking testimony from both Andrew McCabe and DAG Rod Rosenstein to “fully explain how and why a FISA warrant was issued against Carter Page and answer questions about what appears to be, now more than ever, bias against President Trump.”

February 15 Drifting from the Word

Scripture reading: Hebrews 2:1–4

Key verse: Titus 1:9

Holding fast the faithful word as he has been taught, that he may be able, by sound doctrine, both to exhort and convict those who contradict.

A Christian song tells of a friendship shared between two people. In the beginning both had a deep, burning desire to serve the Lord. Yet two years later, one had drifted away from God’s fellowship.

The writer of Hebrews admonishes us to “give the more earnest heed to the things we have heard, lest we drift away” (Heb. 2:1). Drifting begins subtly and usually includes compromising the principles found in God’s Word. The movies you attend, the way you dress, the friends you associate with, or any number of other things could be a source of compromise.

Once we take the first step, Satan urges us to do it again. “After all,” he reasons, “nothing happened the first time.” Before we know it, our attitude has changed and our lifestyle reflects the shift in our commitment to Christ.

No one is immune to drifting. All of us have felt the temptation to let our devotion slide so as not to become too serious. However, Jesus gave up everything to come to earth and die in our place. We have eternal life because He took the principles of His Father seriously. By His grace, we are saved and set free from sin. Once realized, this should be enough to curb any notion of drifting.

Anchor your life to the Word of God and you will never drift.

Heavenly Father, anchor my life in Your Word. Keep me from compromise that will cause me to drift away from You.[1]

Do You Believe in the Deep State Now? — The American Conservative

Be afraid. Be very afraid.

That’s a natural reaction to the revelation of Andrew G. McCabe, the former deputy FBI director, that top Justice Department officials, alarmed by Donald Trump’s firing of former Bureau director James Comey, explored a plan to invoke the 25th Amendment and kick the duly elected president out of office.

According to New York Times reporters Adam Goldman and Matthew Haag, McCabe made the statement in an NBC 60 Minutes interview to be aired on Sunday. He also reportedly said that McCabe wanted the so-called Russia collusion investigation to go after Trump for obstructing justice in firing Comey and for any instances they could turn up of his working in behalf of Russia.

The idea of invoking the 25th Amendment was discussed, it seems, at two meetings on May 16, 2017. According to McCabe, top law enforcement officials pondered how they might recruit Vice President Pence and a majority of cabinet members to declare in writing, to the Senate’s president pro tempore and the House speaker, that the president was “unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office.” That would be enough, under the 25th Amendment, to install the vice president as acting president, pushing aside Trump.

But to understand what kind of constitutional crisis this would unleash and the precedent it would set, it’s necessary to ponder the rest of this section of the 25th Amendment. The text prescribes that, if the president, after being removed, transmits to the same congressional figures that he is indeed capable of discharging his duties, he shall once again be president after four days. But if the vice president and the cabinet majority reiterate their declaration within those four days that the guy can’t govern, Congress is charged with deciding the issue. It then takes a two-thirds vote of both houses to keep the president removed, which would have to be done within 21 days, during which time the elected president would be sidelined and the vice president would govern. If Congress can’t muster the two-thirds majority within the prescribed time period, the president “shall resume the powers and duties of his office.”

It’s almost impossible to contemplate the political conflagration that would ensue under this plan. Citizens would watch those in Washington struggle with the monumental question of the fate of their elected leader under an initiative that had never before been invoked, or even considered, in such circumstances. Debates would flare up over whether this comported with the original intent of the amendment; whether it was crafted to deal with physical or mental “incapacitation,” as opposed to controversial actions or unsubstantiated allegations or even erratic decision making; whether such an action, if established as precedent, would destabilize the American republic for all time; and whether unelected bureaucrats should arrogate to themselves the power to set in motion the downfall of a president, circumventing the impeachment language of the Constitution.

For the past two years, the country has been struggling to understand the two competing narratives of the criminal investigation of the president.

One narrative—let’s call it Narrative A—has it that honorable and dedicated federal law enforcement officials developed concerns over a tainted election in which nefarious Russian agents had sought to tilt the balloting towards the candidate who wanted to improve U.S.-Russian relations and who seemed generally unseemly. Thus did the notion emerge, quite understandably, that Trump had “colluded” with Russian officials to cadge a victory that otherwise would have gone to his opponent. This narrative is supported and protected by Democratic figures and organizations, by adherents of the “Russia as Threat” preoccupation, and by anti-Trumpers everywhere, particularly news outlets such as CNN, The Washington Post, and The New York Times.

The other view—Narrative B—posits that certain bureaucratic mandarins of the national security state and the outgoing Obama administration resolved early on to thwart Trump’s candidacy. After his election, they determined to undermine his political standing, and particularly his proposed policy toward Russia, through a relentless and expansive investigation characterized by initial misrepresentations, selective media leaks, brutal law enforcement tactics, and a barrage of innuendo. This is the narrative of most Trump supporters, conservative commentators, Fox News, and The Wall Street Journal editorial page, notably columnist Kimberley Strassel.

The McCabe revelation won’t affect the battle of the two narratives. As ominous and outrageous as this “deep state” behavior may seem to those who embrace Narrative B, it will be seen by Narrative A adherents as evidence that those law enforcement officials were out there heroically on the front lines protecting the republic from Donald J. Trump.

And those Narrative A folks won’t have any difficulty tossing aside the fact that McCabe was fired as deputy FBI director for violating agency policy in leaking unauthorized information to the news media. He then allegedly violated the law in lying about it to federal investigators on four occasions, including three times while under oath.

Indeed, Narrative A people have no difficulty at all brushing aside serious questions posed by Narrative B people. McCabe is a likely liar and perjurer? Doesn’t matter. Peter Strzok, head of the FBI’s counterespionage section, demonstrated his anti-Trump animus in tweets and emails to Justice official Lisa Page? Irrelevant. Christopher Steele’s dossier of dirt on Trump, including an allegation that the Russians were seeking to blackmail and bribe him, was compiled by a man who had demonstrated to a Justice Department official that he was “desperate that Donald Trump not get elected and…passionate about him not being president”? Not important. The dossier was paid for by the Hillary Clinton campaign and the Democratic Party? Immaterial. Nothing in the dossier was ever substantiated? So what?

Now we have a report from a participant of those meetings that top officials of the country’s premier law enforcement entity sat around and pondered how to bring down a sitting president they didn’t like. The Times even says that McCabe “confirmed” an earlier report that deputy attorney general Rod Rosenstein suggested wearing a wire in meetings with Trump to incriminate him and make him more vulnerable to the plot.

There is no suggestion in McCabe’s interview pronouncements or in the words of Scott Pelley, who conducted the interview and spoke to CBS This Morning about it, that these federal officials ever took action to further the aim of unseating the president. There doesn’t seem to be any evidence that they approached cabinet members or the vice president about it. “They…were speculating, ‘This person would be with us, this person would not be,’ and they were counting noses in that effort,” said Pelley. He added, apparently in response to Rosenstein’s insistence that his comments about wearing a wire were meant as a joke, “This was not perceived to be a joke.”

What are we to make of this? Around the time of the meetings to discuss the 25th Amendment plot, senior FBI officials also discussed initiating a national security investigation of the president as a stooge of the Russians or perhaps even a Russian agent. These talks were revealed by The New York Times and CNN in January, based on closed-door congressional testimony by former FBI general counsel James Baker. You don’t have to read very carefully to see that the reporters on these stories brought to them a Narrative A sensibility. The Times headline: “F.B.I. Opened Inquiry into Whether Trump Was Secretly Working on Behalf of Russia.” CNN’s: “Transcripts detail how FBI debated whether Trump was ‘following directions’ of Russia.” And of course, whoever leaked those hearing transcripts almost surely did so to bolster the Narrative A version of events.

The independent journalist Gareth Porter, writing at Consortium News, offers a penetrating exposition of the inconsistencies, fallacies, and fatuities of the Narrative A matrix, as reflected in how the Times and CNN handled the stories that resulted from what were clearly self-interested leaks.

Porter notes that a particularly sinister expression in May 2017 by former CIA director John O. Brennan, a leading Trump antagonist, has precipitated echoes in the news media ever since, particularly in the Times. Asked in a committee hearing if he had intelligence indicating that anyone in the Trump campaign was “colluding with Moscow,” Brennan dodged the question. He said his experience had taught him that “the Russians try to suborn individuals, and they try to get them to act on their behalf either wittingly or unwittingly.”

Of course you can’t collude with anybody unwittingly. But Brennan’s fancy expression has the effect of expanding what can be thrown at political adversaries, to include not just conscious and nefarious collaboration but also policy advocacy that could be viewed as wrongheaded or injurious to U.S. interests. As Porter puts it, “The real purpose…is to confer on national security officials and their media allies the power to cast suspicion on individuals on the basis of undesirable policy views of Russia rather than on any evidence of actual collaboration with the Russian government.”

That seems to be what’s going on here. There’s no doubt that McCabe and Rosenstein and Strzok and Brennan and Page and many others despised Trump and his resolve to thaw relations with Russia. They viewed him as a president “who needed to be reined in,” as a CNN report described the sentiment among top FBI officials after the Comey firing.

So they expanded the definition of collusion to include “unwitting” collaboration in order to justify their machinations. It’s difficult to believe that people in such positions would take such a cavalier attitude toward the kind of damage they could wreak on the body politic.

Now we learn that they actually sat around and plotted how to distort the Constitution, just as they distorted the rules of official behavior designed to hold them in check, in order to destroy a presidential administration placed in power by the American people. It’s getting more and more difficult to dismiss Narrative B.

American Christianity’s Slide Into Apostasy

This morning, Crash Connell interviews Mike about his latest powerful and provocative book challenging the direction of a growing number of churches in our nation. Mike discusses the demarcation forming between Biblical Christian Churches and “American Christianity” churches and how a growing number of churches and denominations are transforming churches toward secular culture, leading many into a false sense of eternal security.

You can pre-order Mike’s new book at biblicalanswerguy.com or at Amazon. It is a powerful, provocative book that will lead you to an honest self-assessment of your life as a professing believer and discover if the church you belong to is conforming to the world or the Word of God.

Deeper Faith, Honest Questions, Sharing the Gospel

Two fantastic guests on the program means #doubletruththursday. Is that a thing? Anyway…

Today, Mike and David welcome first-time guest, evangelist, Willie Herath of Ratio Christi in southern California and we discuss apologetics, deeper questions in the faith, and how to effectively respond to nonbelievers. How important is it for us to be ready to respond when people have questions or have objections to Christianity. We often find out that they really did not know much about the evidence for the Christian faith and the Bible.

We also talk with radio host, Mike Zander, from Utah’s Key Radio where he reaches out to Mormons in Utah with the gospel. He’s in town today and in-studio with Mike LeMay and David Fiorazo.

Are We Turning Toward or Away From God?

Mike and David look at a challenging article by Shane Idelman admonishing the Church to start living and acting like the Church instead of caving to the pressure and beliefs of secular society. And — breaking news — in case you haven’t heard:

The church is not a building or a denomination… You and I as believers are the Church!

The sad reality is that Jesus warned that many who think they are saved and going to heaven are instead headed to eternal hell. Paul tells us to continually test ourselves to prove that we are truly in the faith and have not fooled ourselves. The committed follower of Jesus Christ is willing to do this on a continual basis; the professing Christian who has fooled themselves never thinks twice about it. They have been lulled into a false sense of eternal security by the father of lies and a professing “church” that is afraid to offend people by teaching about sin, repentance and the pursuit of holiness. Together today we will examine ourselves.

In our first segment, we talk Biblical apologetics with Aaron Marshall of Ratio Christi Ministries.

Time for the Church to Turn Back to God

The world is what it always will be: Full of people who love self and power and despise God and His Word. Christians are called to stand out as a peculiar people full of eternal hope in Jesus Christ and sharing that hope with lost people. But many fear that as the “church” has sought compromise and common ground with the world that she has lost her moral standing and actually is contributing to the growing evil in society instead of opposing it and offering a solution.

It’s time to turn back to God with repentant hearts, asking His forgiveness for squandering our calling as light in this dark world. But do we as professing Christians, along with those who lead us, have the humility and strength to get on our knees and repent before God for our failures? Or will we continue to look more and more like this world Jesus said we were to hate and that would hate us?

Elijah Abraham, a former Muslim and now born-again believer, travels the world teaching the Word of God and equipping Christians in persecuted nations to share the gospel in the midst of danger. Elijah joins us to look at the tepid condition of American Christianity and what we must do before it’s too late.

The Church’s Dilemma with Israel

Paul is warning believers not to dismiss God’s eternal promises to Israel because many will be saved in the final days. But an increasing number of professing Christians are turning away from Israel and supporting her enemies.

Pastor and best-selling Author Carl Gallups joins Mike and David this morning to talk about his new book that in just a few short weeks is already a best-seller. It looks at how biblical Christianity is starting to spread in Israel and the controversy surrounding recently deceased Rabbi Zev Porat and a controversial message he left to be opened upon his death.

February 15, 2019 Afternoon Verse Of The Day

The Purpose: to Glorify God

Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven. (5:16)

The word (kalos) for good that Jesus uses here does not so much emphasize quality—though that obviously is important—as it does attractiveness, beautiful appearance. Letting our light shine before men allows them to see our good works, the beauty the Lord has worked in us. To see good works by us is to see Christ in us. That is why Jesus says, let your light shine. It is not something we create or make up, but something we allow the Lord to do through us. It is God’s light; our choice is whether to hide it or let it shine.

The purpose of letting our light shine and reveal our good works is not to bring attention or praise to ourselves but to God. Our intent should be that, in what we are and in what we do, others may see God in order that they may glorify [our] Father who is in heaven. Jesus’ speaking of the Father emphasizes God’s tenderness and intimacy, and speaking of His being in heaven emphasizes His majesty and holiness, as He is pictured dwelling in the splendor of His eternal holy home. Our good works are to magnify God’s grace and power. This is the supreme calling of life: glorifying God. Everything we do is to cause others to give praise to the God who is the source of all that is good. The way we live should lead those around us to glorify (doxazō, from which we get doxology) the heavenly Father.

When what we do causes people to be attracted to us rather than to God, to see our human character rather than His divine character, we can be sure that what they see is not His light.

It is said of Robert Murray McCheyne, a godly Scottish minister of the last century, that his face carried such a hallowed expression that people were known to fall on their knees and accept Jesus Christ as Savior when they looked at him. Others were so attracted by the self-giving beauty and holiness of his life that they found his Master irresistible.

It was also said of the French pietist Francois Fenelon that his communion with God was such that his face shined with divine radiance. A religious skeptic who was compelled to spend the night in an inn with Fenelon, hurried away the next morning, saying, “If I spend another night with that man I’ll be a Christian in spite of myself.”

That is the kind of salt and light God wants His kingdom people to be.[1]

16. Let your light shine before men. After having taught the apostles that, in consequence of the rank in which they are placed, both their vices and their virtues are better known for a good or bad example, he now enjoins them so to regulate their life, as to excite all to glorify God. That they may see your good works: for, as Paul tells us, believers must “provide for honest things, not only in the sight of God, but also in the sight of men,” (2 Cor. 8:21.) The command, which he gives shortly afterwards, to seek concealment and a retired situation for their good works, (Matth. 6:4,) is intended only to forbid ostentation. In the present instance, he has quite a different object in view, to recommend to them the glory of God alone. Now, if the glory of good works cannot be properly ascribed to God, unless they are traced to him, and unless he is acknowledged to be their only Author, it is evident, that we cannot, without offering an open and gross insult to God, extol free will, as if good works proceeded wholly, or in part, from its power. Again, we must observe, how graciously God deals with us, when he calls the good works ours, the entire praise of which would justly be ascribed to himself.[2]

16 Jesus drives the metaphor home. What his disciples must show is their “good works,” i.e., all righteousness, everything they are and do that reflects the mind and will of God. And people must see this light. It may provoke persecution (vv. 10–12), but that is no reason for hiding the light others may see and by which they may come to glorify the Father—the disciples’ only motive (cf. 2 Co 4:6; 1 Pe 2:12). Witness includes not just words but deeds; as Stier (Words of the Lord Jesus) remarks, “The good word without the good walk is of no avail.”

Thus the kingdom norms (vv. 3–12) so work out in the lives of the kingdom’s heirs as to produce the kingdom witness (vv. 13–16). If salt (v. 13) exercises the negative function of delaying decay and warns disciples of the danger of compromise and conformity to the world, then light (vv. 14–16) speaks positively of illuminating a sin-darkened world and warns against a withdrawal from the world that does not lead others to glorify the Father in heaven. “Flight into the invisible is a denial of the call. A community of Jesus which seeks to hide itself has ceased to follow him” (Bonhoeffer, Cost of Discipleship, 106).[3]

BREAKING: Docs Reveal FBI Cover Up of “Chart” of Potential Violations By Hillary Clinton: Judicial Watch — The Gateway Pundit

Once again Judicial Watch is doing the heavy lifting.

Conservative watchdog group Judicial Watch announced Friday it received another tranche of documents from a January 2018 FOIA lawsuit that revealed the FBI actively covered up a ‘chart’ of potential violations by Hillary Clinton.

The newly obtained emails came in response to a May 21 order by U.S. District Judge Reggie B. Walton to the FBI to begin processing 13,000 pages of records exchanged exclusively between Strzok and Page between February 1, 2015, and December 2017.

The FBI may not complete review and production of all the Strzok-Page communications until at least 2020, reported Judicial Watch.

Three days after then-FBI Director James Comey’s July 2016 press conference where he usurped the DOJ and exonerated Hillary Clinton, a July 8 2016 email chain reveals a Special Counsel to the FBI’s executive assistant director in charge of the National Security Branch, whose name is redacted, wrote to Peter Strzok and other officials that he was creating a “chart” of Hillary Clinton’s violations they found during the investigation and reasons to NOT prosecute.

Via Judicial Watch:

[Redacted] writes: I am still working on an additional page for these TPs that consist of a chart of the statutory violations considered during the investigation, and the reasons for the recommendation not to prosecute, hopefully in non-lawyer friendly terms …

Strzok forwards to Page, Jonathan Moffa and others: I have redlined some points. Broadly, I have some concerns about asking some our [sic] senior field folks to get into the business of briefing this case, particularly when we have the D’s [Comey’s] statement as a kind of stand alone document. In my opinion, there’s too much nuance, detail, and potential for missteps. But I get they may likely be asked for comment.

[Redacted] writes to Strzok, Page and others: The DD [Andrew McCabe] will need to approve these before they are pushed out to anyone. At the end of last week, he wasn’t inclined to send them to anyone. But, it’s great to have them on the shelf in case they’re needed.

[Redacted] writes to Strzok and Page: I’m really not sure why they continued working on these [talking points]. In the morning, I’ll make sure Andy [McCabe] tells Mike [Kortan] to keep these in his pocket. I guess Andy just didn’t ever have a moment to turn these off with Mike like he said he would.

Page replies: Yes, agree that this is not a good idea.

Neither the chart of Hillary Clinton’s potential violations nor the talking points drafted by the FBI officials have ever been released.

On May 15, 2016, James Rybicki sent Bill Priestap, McCabe, Lisa Page and others an email with the subject line “Request from the Director.”

Comey wanted a list of all cases charged in the last 20 years where the “gravamen of the charge was mishandling classified information.”

“It should be in chart form with: (1) case name, (2) a short summary for content (3) charges brought, and (4) charge of conviction,” Rybicki wrote.

A July 22, 2016 email exchange between Peter Strzok, Lisa Page and other FBI and DOJ officials show that Beth Wilkinson, a lawyer for several of Hillary Clinton’s aides, demanded a conference call with the FBI/DOJ and that she was “haranguing” the FBI/DOJ about the return of laptops in the FBI’s possession:

A Wilkinson Walsh attorney, emails [Redacted] FBI National Security Division Officials: We wanted to follow up on our conversation from a few days ago. We would like to schedule a time to speak with both you and [Redacted] early next week. Is there a time on Monday or Tuesday that could work on your end?

[Redacted] FBI National Security Division official writes: In the meantime, I’ll tell Hal that we will certainly schedule a call and will get back to him as to timing. Since he knows Beth [Wilkinson] personally, it could be useful to have Jim on the phone if she is going to be haranguing us re: the laptops.

[Redacted] FBI Office of the General Counsel writes: More…I guess this is [Redacted’s] rationale for why we need to have the GC on the call to discuss the fact that we will be following all of our legal obligations and FBI policies/procedures with regard to the disposition of the materials in this case.

Strzok writes: You are perfectly competent to speak to the legal obligations and FBI policy/procedures. We should NOT be treating opposing counsel this way. We would not in any other case.

President of Judicial Watch Tom Fitton had this to say about the FBI hiding a chart detailing Hillary Clinton’s violations of the law:

“Judicial Watch caught the FBI in another cover-up to protect Hillary Clinton. These records show that the FBI is hiding a chart detailing possible violations of law by Hillary Clinton and the supposed reasons she was not prosecuted.”

More from Tom Fitton: “This is an outrageous cover up”

If Socialism Is So Good, Why Are People Moving Away?

Authored by Dennis Miller via MillerOnTheMoney.com,

The mainstream media is citing reports, with widely varying percentages, that many young Americans prefer socialism to capitalism – and are supporting socialist candidates. The media provides extended coverage to politicians touting socialist programs.

The New York Times trumpets, “Mayor de Blasio Says Wealth Is ‘in the Wrong Hands,’ Pledges to Redistribute It.”

“Here’s the truth, brothers and sisters, there’s plenty of money in the world. Plenty of money in this city,” the mayor said… It’s just in the wrong hands!”

… He cast himself as an aspiring Robin Hood – aiming to take from the rich and give to the poor.

Politicos robbing and redistributing wealth; what could possibly go wrong?

Ask 100 people to define socialism, you would likely get 100 different answers. It reminds me of the story about blind people in a zoo touching an elephant for the first time. Each person has a different perception, depending on where they touch.

On one end you receive free food, healthcare, and daily treats. Who wouldn’t want free stuff? Those on the “bouquet” end, dealing with the mess, would have a different opinion.

If socialism is so good, one would think people would be migrating to the states offering the most free stuff.

The major moving companies issue annual reports regarding migration.

United Van Lines reports New Jersey at #1 (66.8% outbound) followed by Illinois, Connecticut, and New York (61.5%). Atlas Van Lines also ranked New York 4th (61.0%). Do the outbound migrants feel they are at the bouquet end, and fed up with paying for the free stuff?

Taxes Matter

How Money Walks uses IRS data in their tax migration analysis. The red states have lost billions in wealth due to outbound migration. People are heading to states with lower taxes.

I received a letter from a reader asking me to stop promoting Prescott, AZ. His reason? They are inundated with CA refugees; driving real estate prices sky high. We see the same thing here in Phoenix.

New York lost $99.49 billion in annual Adjusted Gross Income from outbound migration between 1992-2016.

Arthur B. Laffer and Stephen Moore’s Wall Street Journal article, “So Long, California. Sayonara, New York” concludes:

“We estimate, based on the historical relationship between tax rates and migration patterns, that both California and New York will lose on net about 800,000 residents over the next three years – roughly twice the number that left from 2014-16.”

Both states welcome immigrants looking for free stuff with open arms. That does not bode well for the remaining taxpayers.

I’m not debating the merits of socialism or capitalism, both have their flaws. In the early 1900s capitalists amassed fortunes and colluded to eliminate competition and create monopolies. The government broke up the monopolies and passed laws fostering competition. The extremes are what average working Americans should be concerned about.

In the 1960s two events changed America. The birth control pill was perfected while Lyndon Johnson’s “Great Society” included laws that ended up incentivizing out of wedlock birth.

The Washington Free Beacon references this 2017 study:

”… Trends in marriage by economic classes have sharply diverged, a marked change from just 40 to 50 years ago.

While poor and working-class Americans are less likely to be married or otherwise involved, they also have more children on average than their middle- and upper-class peers. Poor women have approximately 2.4 children on average; working-class women, 1.8; and middle- and upper-class women, 1.7. Poor women not only have more children but also start childbearing earlier.”

The producing members of society are declining while the poor are reproducing at a rate almost 33% higher.

The government made things worse.

“Attempting to account for this divergence, (they) cite a series of interlocking economic, policy, civic, and cultural changes since the 1960s in America combined to create a perfect family storm for poor and working-class Americans.

The marriage gap in America is also a function of policy decisions …. and a substantially expanded welfare state, including programs which actively penalize marriage. One survey found that 31 percent of Americans personally know someone who chose not to marry so as not to lose a means-tested benefit.”

A liberal immigration policy adds to the challenge.

What happens when those getting free stuff can outvote those paying for it?

Politicians focus on those who can vote them into power. If those getting the free stuff are the majority, that’s where they go. Ruling forever is the goal of every political party.

Politicos, regardless of their party affiliation, have turned buying votes with tax dollars into an art form. While Mayor de Blasio may preach about the 1% getting richer, why are the big banks and federal reserve exempt?

Wealthy pioneers like Henry Ford, Sam Walton or Bill Gates amassed fortunes by changing America. They created things the public wanted, including thousands of jobs. I’ve never seen a book titled, “Good things bankers did for America!”

We can’t get enough votes in Congress to audit the Fed, much less break up their cartel. Why? The smart 1% make the right political donations and buy protection.

In the Lincoln-Douglas debates, Honest Abe nailed it:

“They are the two principles that have stood face to face from the beginning of time; and will ever continue to struggle. The one is the common right of humanity, and the other the divine right of kings. It is the same principle in whatever shape it develops itself. It is the same spirit that says, “You toil and work and earn bread, and I’ll eat it.”

The ruling class consumes the bread produced by others. After taking their massive cut, they feed their armies to protect them and sprinkle the remainder to the masses to maintain their power.

Richard Maybury’s January U.S & World Early Warning Report shares a mind-boggling personal experience:

“…. In 1988 I met a college professor widely regarded as a dean of socialism in America. This economist wrote books and traveled the country giving speeches about the alleged need for ever larger government and more taxes and regulations. When the news media wanted the official socialist view on an issue, he was one of the first they’d call.

One day I found myself alone with him for several hours. Our confidential conversation drifted into a debate of socialism vs. laissez-faire capitalism.

Finally, I asked…. “Apart from the economic fallacies on which socialism is based, there’s the fact that a government’s decisions are backed by guns and prisons. …. How can you trust any government with so much power?”

There was a quiet pause, and then speaking softly so that no one could overhear, the old man looked at the floor and answered, “I’m not stupid. I know socialism is a crock. But being its spokesman is profitable, and I have no other marketable skill.”

Guns and prisons?

Fox News reports, “De Blasio pitches plan to seize private property of problem landlords, opponents cry ‘communism’.” How does one determine “problem landlords”? How long before political contributions factor into the decision?

In 2012, Chicago mayor Rahm Emmanuel withdrew support for Wrigley Field improvements. He discovered the owner’s father (in Nebraska) was “thinking” about donating to a political action committee the mayor did not like. Richard Maybury’s question about giving the government all that power is spot on!

Politicos pander to their base offering free stuff that will be paid for by others. Working class citizens no longer buy the 1% hogwash. They know every new social program ends up costing the working class a lot of money. If they cannot win at the ballot box, many are voting with their feet. Let someone else support the politician’s agenda!

What does this mean for baby boomers and retirees?

The first step in retirement planning is “running the numbers” to see if your money will last. While the numbers may work in the present, what about the future? When those receiving free stuff can outvote those paying for it, the game changes; wealth is confiscated by all possible means.

In 2010 Money Morning reported:

“According to widespread media reports, (the government is) planning to stage a public-comment period before implementing regulations that would require U.S. savers to invest portions of their 401(k) savings plans and Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs) into annuities or other “steady” payment streams backed by U.S. government bonds.”

While this didn’t come to fruition, don’t be surprised to see this again soon. Expect to see social security benefits means tested and 100% taxable in your lifetime.

The United Van Lines study looks at why people moved. Here is their analysis for NY:

Baby boomers are moving away from high tax states in droves – 51.7% of the outbound moves were age 55 and older. Almost 30% of the inbound moves are under 34 years old. The numbers for IL and CA are similar.

Don’t ignore the warning signs! On top of the federal government, individual states will be piling on, looking for money wherever they can. Running the numbers is only part of retirement planning. Protecting your wealth is an equally important consideration. Holding real (tangible) assets and residing in low tax locations must be considered.

Moving yourself and your money to a safer place might be the most important retirement decision you will ever make!

And finally… This week let’s look at some wisdom found on Facebook.

And my favorite:

Until next time…

Cortez’ GREEN NEW DEAL Straight from the UNITED NATIONS

Absolute Truth from the Word of God

I’m sure that many of you have watched Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) as the press have interviewed her.  It is actually painful to watch and listen.  She is, as they say, not the sharpest knife in the drawer.  She struggles to make a complete thought in a sentence.

So I ask you – Did Cortez co-write the GREEN NEW DEAL?   That’s rhetorical.

The Green New Deal originated at the United Nations during the reign of Obama in the U.S.  Obama got the ball rolling on this U.N. initiative.  He even lost Billions of dollars from our “Stimulus Package.”  Do you remember that? Well, keep reading because you will see clearly where that money went.

Brethren, Cortez is a U.N. Globalist puppet.  But those who are pulling her strings should have done their homework. They would have seen that this woman does not know how to articulate her thoughts……..actually the thoughts…

US, Israeli & Arab leaders agree in Warsaw: We must counter Iran threat together. Intel report finds Iran could get nuclear weapon in two years. Also, U.S. Mideast peace plan to be rolled out after Israeli elections in April. — Joel C. Rosenberg’s Blog

(Jerusalem, Israel) — This week, the U.S. convened a summit in the Polish capital of Warsaw that was important, and possibly historic, for three reasons:

  1. First, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu and Arab Foreign Ministers met together, sat together, ate together, worked together, and even did a photo-op together.
  2. Second, leaders from at least 60 countries — including Israel and the Arabs — agreed Iran is the number one threat and the best way to counter Iran is to work more closely together.
  3. Third, the U.S. indicated it will finally unveil its blueprint for a final, comprehensive Israeli-Palestinian peace plan after the Israeli elections in April.

As I’ve been reporting for several years now, intelligence and security cooperation — particularly against Iran — has been underway between Israel and her Sunni Arab neighbors for quite some time, but almost all of it has been purposefully kept hidden.

This week, it came out into the sunlight.

“The winds of change [are being] felt across the Middle East,” Vice President Pence said in his address to the summit, noting numerous examples.

I’ll be discussing these issues more as I release my new thriller, The Persian Gamble, on March 12th.

For now, though, I’d encourage you to read carefully through the following articles, or at the very least, browse these extraordinary headlines:

Atheist Requiring Evidence To Believe Anything Knows For Certain Trump Colluded With Russia — The Babylon Bee

CLIFTON, NJ—Local atheist man Michael Kent doesn’t just take so-called “facts” at face value. A self-described skeptic, he demands evidence for every assertion in his unending quest for truth.

He also is absolutely certain Trump colluded with Russia, even though years of investigations have produced little direct evidence of the claim.

“You can’t just make wild claims like that there’s some magic guy in the sky somewhere,” said the man who believes wild claims that Trump was involved in some kind of sinister Putin-funded plot to destroy America despite the lack of evidence revealed thus far. “It flies in the face of scientific inquiry to just believe stuff without evidence.”

Kent said that people just blindly believing things is what’s wrong with America. He called the “blind faith” exercised by millions of “religious sheeple” a plague on the nation.

Kent also demands that Trump be thrown in jail for collusion based on “pretty much no evidence.”

“I don’t believe in God—I am a man of science,” he concluded before returning to his Twitter account to tweet under the hashtag “#Impeach45.”

Obama Condemns Trump’s ‘Dangerous’ Use Of Unilateral Executive Action — The Babylon Bee

WASHINGTON, D.C.—In a statement issued Friday, former president Barack Obama strongly condemned President Trump’s “dangerous” and “concerning” use of unilateral executive action to build a wall along the southern border of the country.

A humble Obama said he doesn’t like to insert himself in modern politics. “It’s important to keep the focus off me so Trump can do his best job for the nation.” Nonetheless, he says he felt he had to speak out on this issue.

“Can you imagine if the president just ignored Congress all the time and used executive action to accomplish his agenda?” Obama remarked. “That would be incredibly bad for individual liberty and the separation of powers the founding fathers so wisely created.”

“The White House should accomplish its aims through the proper channels. The president is not a dictator who can just sign executive orders any time he wants,” he added.

Obama pointed out that if the president abuses executive orders, the country would run the risk of having a radical commander in chief who could just force through his pet agenda items, get the nation involved in countless foreign entanglements, or balloon the national debt without congressional approval.

“This is a dangerous precedent,” he concluded.

In a rare display of Islamic pluralism, a 2017 article in The Muslim Times noted that there is certainly room at the site to create a worship space, even a Third Temple, for the Jews. The editor, Dr. Zia Shah, suggested a multi-story structure to maximize the space. “Every Jewish, Christian and Muslim denomination that has a sizeable presence in Israel gets a floor in the plaza free of charge, as their synagogue, church or mosque and in return they provide a public relations campaign to make the project a success. For as long as life has existed on Earth, it’s been bathed in these incredibly weak fields, but they were generally not thought to have any real impact. But in the new study, scientists at Tel Aviv University found that these fields could be exerting influence on life after all… “The most important effect was that the atmospheric ELF fields actually protected cells under stress conditions. In other words, when biological cells are under stress – due to lack of oxygen, for example – the atmospheric fields from lightning appear to protect them from damage. “It may explain why all living organisms have electrical activity in the same ELF spectral range, and it is the first time such a connection has been shown.

February 15 A Time to Stop Waiting

scripture reading: Joshua 7:1–13
key verse: Joshua 7:10

The Lord said to Joshua: “Get up! Why do you lie thus on your face?”

The wise man Solomon wrote in Ecclesiastes 3:1: “There is an appointed time for everything” (nasb). Though not included in the list of appropriate seasons that followed, this principle rings just as true: “There is a time to wait—and a time to act.”

How do you see the difference? When do you hover over a situation, and when do you launch out?

There are two conditions involved in determining the latter course. If you have done everything you know to discern God’s leadership—praying diligently, gathering facts, searching the Word, obtaining good counsel, submitting totally to Jesus’ lordship—and if a decision must be made now, then it is time to move forward.

If you want to please God sincerely, you must not worry about the consequences of your decisions. If it is the wrong decision, then He will forgive you and steer you rightly. But when a course must be charted, your confidence, faith, and courage are fully cast on the God who knows the future and has secured your relationship with Him.

Wait on God when you can, but act boldly in faith when you must, entrusting yourself to a faithful God.

Heavenly Father, I need wisdom to know when to wait and when to act. Give me the confidence that You will use my decisions for Your glory. I rest secure in the knowledge that You know the future.[1]

Distinguishing grace

“For who maketh thee to differ from another?” 1 Corinthians 4:7

suggested further reading: Luke 22:31–34

If thou leave me, Lord, for a moment, I am utterly undone.

“Leave, ah! leave me not alone, Still support and comfort me.”

Let Abraham be deserted by his God, he equivocates and denies his wife. Let Noah be deserted, he becomes a drunkard, and is naked to his shame. Let Lot be left awhile, and, filled with wine, he revels in incestuous embraces, and the fruit of his body becomes a testimony to his disgrace. Nay, let David, the man after God’s own heart, be left, and Uriah’s wife shall soon show the world that the man after God’s own heart still has an evil heart of unbelief in departing from the living God. Oh! the poet puts it well—

“Methinks I hear my Saviour say, ‘Wilt thou forsake me too?’ ”

And now let our conscience answer:-

“Ah, Lord! with such a heart as mine,

Unless thou hold me fast,

I feel I must, I shall decline,

And prove like them at last.”

Oh be not rashly self-confident, Christian man. Be as confident as you can in your God, but be distrustful of yourself. You may yet become all that is vile and vicious, unless sovereign grace prevent and keep you to the end. But remember if you have been preserved, the crown of your keeping belongs to the Shepherd of Israel, and you know who that is. For he has said “I the Lord do keep it; I will water it every moment: lest any hurt it, I will keep it night and day.” You know “who is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy.” Then give all glory to the King immortal, invisible, the only wise God your Saviour, who has kept you thus.

for meditation: Those who think they can stand by themselves are taught by being allowed to fall by themselves (1 Corinthians 10:12; Ecclesiastes 4:10).

Releasing Fear to God

Into thine hand I commit my spirit: thou hast redeemed me, O Lord God of truth. Psalm 31:5

suggested further reading: Luke 23:44–47

Though many things may distress us all, scarcely one person of a hundred wisely commits his life into God’s hand. Multitudes live from day to day as merry and careless as if they were in a quiet nest, free from all disturbances. But when they encounter something that truly terrifies them, they are ready to die in anguish. They do not betake themselves to God, either because they deceive themselves with vain delusions, flattering themselves that all will yet be well, or because they are so stricken with dread and stupefied with amazement that they have no desire for God’s fatherly care.

As various tempests of grief disturb us and even sometimes throw us down or drag us from the direct path of duty, or at least remove us from our post, the only remedy for setting our fears to rest is to consider that God, who is the author of our life, is also our preserver. Trusting in him is the only way to lighten our burdens and preserve us from being swallowed up by excessive sorrow.

Seeing, therefore, that God condescends to take care of our lives and to support us, let us learn always to flee to this asylum. The more that we are exposed to danger, the more we should carefully meditate upon this.

This confidence will help us discharge our duty with alacrity as well as constantly and fearlessly struggle onward to the end of our course. How then can so many people be slothful and indifferent, and others so perfidiously forsake their duty? How can they be so overwhelmed with anxiety and terrified of dangers and inconveniences that they leave no room for the operation of the providence of God?

for meditation: Few comforts are as great as that which comes from committing one’s life to God’s hand. Regardless of what storms arise, peace is to be found in God. What do you most fear? Consider what comfort you may find if you release your fear to God.[1]
