April 3 At the Foot of the Cross

Scripture Reading: 2 Corinthians 7:8–12

Key Verse: 2 Corinthians 7:10

For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, not to be regretted; but the sorrow of the world produces death.

Paul wanted the best for the people in Corinth. He loved the church and worked for the good of its members. During a trip to Macedonia, Paul realized that the ethical and doctrinal problems in Corinth were so great that, without correction, they would result in the ruination of the church. So Paul wrote a stinging disciplinary letter to the church. Preferring the people of Corinth to be wounded in correction and healed rather than continue on the pathway of sin and death, he rebuked them.

It is the concept that one finds in cancer treatments. The manner by which cancer is treated is by radiation or chemotherapy, which destroys harmful cells. Though the remedy is often harsh and draining, it stops the cancer’s consumption of the body. In 2 Corinthians 7:10, Paul wrote that our sorrow produces repentance that leads to salvation.

God does not desire to see you face pain and suffering, but at times there are such destructive things at work in your life that He must root them out. His desire is that you would repent. He kills the cancerous cells of sin so that you might be able to enjoy the abundant life He has for you.

God invites you to come to the foot of the cross and confess your sins to Him. Acknowledge the sins that plague you so He can help you live the full life you were intended to experience.

Lord, the sting of correction is less painful than the cancer of sin. Search my heart and reveal to me the areas where my sin is hidden.[1]

April 3 The Cry of the Cross

Scripture Reading: 1 Corinthians 2

Key Verse: 1 Corinthians 2:2

I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified.

To some, a cross might seem an odd symbol for a religious faith. It does, after all, carry the same meaning as an electric chair or a hangman’s noose—death.

Yet this gruesome form of Roman torture stands at the heart of Christianity. An emblem such as the sign of the fish is a legitimate New Testament expression, but the cross of Jesus Christ is the authentic badge of Christianity.

You see, God so loved you that Christ died for you. There was no way around it. Sin—the state and condition into which all men are born—had carved an abyss between God and man that nothing but the Cross could traverse. The message of the Cross is love, God’s immeasurable, amazing love for man. The holy love of God sent His Son to earth in human form and placed Him on two pieces of timber.

When you think upon the cross and its painful accoutrements—nails, thorns, jeers, whips, and ridicule—think of the overwhelming love of God. God loves you. He died for you. He was raised for you. He saves all who trust Him for forgiveness of sin. He reserves eternity in your name. That is the love of God and the consummate cry of the cross.

Lord, thank You for Your overwhelming love demonstrated at Calvary. You died for me. You were raised for me. You saved me and have reserved eternity in my name. Thank You that I have heard the cry of the cross.[1]

April 3 God’s Immeasurable Riches

Scripture reading: Colossians 2:1–10

Key verse: Hebrews 1:2

[God] has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds.

The word heir evokes thoughts of money or property handed down from generation to generation, with some special person receiving a legacy from a parent or relative. The heir is granted full benefits and ownership privileges and has the gratifying knowledge that he is unique, blessed, chosen for honor in some way.

Not many of us will inherit a vast estate or get a surprise phone call from a wealthy relation. But with Jesus as your Savior, you are already an heir with Him of all God’s immeasurable riches. God the Father gave everything to Jesus, “whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds” (Heb. 1:2). He is your fullness and abundant supply for every part of your being.

Do you need strength? God has all power and gives energy for every task. Do you lack wisdom? He provides discernment and insight that cut through even the densest fog of confusion. Are you searching for contentment? Jesus gives you peace beyond human understanding.

A bank account can be depleted; a fortune can dwindle away; houses and property can be taken. But the inheritance you have in Christ is untouchable, unchanging, and inexhaustible.

Thank You, dear Lord, that my inheritance in You is untouchable, unchanging, and inexhaustible. You are all I need![1]

TV Star Praises Trump, Slams Obama over Prison Reform Legislation

Actor Isaiah Washington on Monday contrasted President Donald Trump’s successful implementation of prison reforms that have helped black Americans with the lack of effort put forth by former President Barack Obama.

Washington, who starred in ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy,” was among those invited to the White House on Monday to celebrate the initial success of the First Step Act, a package of criminal justice reform and prisoner rehabilitation legislation that Trump signed late last year, Fox News reported.

During the event, Trump praised the law’s progress and vowed that follow-up legislation he called the Second Step Act would increase supports to help ex-offenders get the training and education they need to find work when they leave prison.

Washington made no secret of his pleasure with Trump’s actions.

“I voted for 44 twice,” he tweeted. “I even checked my emails in his Senate Office while lobbying for Salone to be given another chance to rebrand. Not once in 8 years was I given any support regarding Africa or the Black Agenda, but 45 invites me to the WH to celebrate the #FirstStepAct.”

Border Rep.: ‘Every Gangster Coming Across Means Somebody’s Going to Be Raped…Going to be Robbed’

Every addition illegal alien gangster allowed into the U.S. ensures that more Americans will be raped and robbed, Texas Republican Congressman Louie Gohmert said Wednesday.

By diverting border personnel from border protection to care for illegal alien children and families, the U.S. is allowing dangerous illegal aliens into the country, Rep. Gohmert told Fox & Friends First:

“It is just outrageous. And, every gangster coming across means somebody is going to be raped in this country, somebody is going to be robbed. And, we need those people back on the border. It is just incalculable the damage the Democrats are doing by not helping our president.”

“Every single inch” of the Southwest U.S. border is being controlled by the drug cartels, Gohmert added:

“We know the drug cartels control every single inch of the border, and the president’s doing all he can. And, the threat to close the border should be taken as very real, because we’ve got to do something to stop these folks.”

It is crucial to use “non-lethal” force to keep illegal aliens from setting even one foot in the U.S – because, once they do, they get into the system and claim asylum to prevent deportation, Gohmert said:

“And, I think a very critical thing would be to say: use non-lethal methods to prevent people from setting one foot in our country – because, once they get a foot here, it’s a matter of then processing them. And, I think the president would be well justified to say ‘No more asylum until we get this under control.’”

Man Arrested While Attempting To Smuggle Chick-Fil-A Sandwich Into San Antonio Airport | The Babylon Bee

SAN ANTONIO, TX—A local man was apprehended today while trying to smuggle a delicious Chick-fil-A classic chicken sandwich into San Antonio International Airport.

The man was reportedly acting suspiciously as he approached a TSA checkpoint, looking around nervously and feeling something in his pocket. When he got to the scanners, he was called aside for a check, and sure enough, agents discovered the warm, moist, tender chicken sandwich. He was tackled to the floor and dragged away by force.

Later on, during questioning, the man reportedly claimed he just wanted something to eat on the plane, but investigators weren’t buying it. “It was obvious he wanted to bring hate and discrimination into this place in an act of terror,” said a member of the San Antonio city council. “It’s not ISIS or other extremist groups we need to worry about—it’s Christian sandwiches.”

The TSA was praised for doing its job heroically.

“We’re just doing our jobs,” said a TSA agent at the scene. “We’re not heroes. Any ordinary American would have done the same for us, to ensure the people at this airport are protected from bigoted, hateful, tasty chicken sandwiches.”

At publishing time, sources had confirmed that a TSA agent had confiscated the sandwich and devoured it slowly to ensure there was nothing illicit in the meat.

Facebook Under Fire For Demanding Access To User’s Email Passwords When Signing Up For A New Profile Page — Now The End Begins


Just two weeks after admitting it stored hundreds of millions of its users’ own passwords insecurely, Facebook is demanding some users fork over the password for their outside email account as the price of admission to the social network.

Facebook has become the social media version of the Mark of the Beast, and their latest attempt at invading your privacy will really anger you. Hundreds of thousands of new users, when signing up for a Facebook profile, were greeted with a popup box that asked them to not only confirm their email, but demanded their email password as well. This new ‘feature’ is called ‘password verification‘, and it was met with instant outrage.

For years now, we have be following the end times exploits of Mark Zukerberg and his One World social system called Facebook, and with each passing year things get worse and worse. We have gotten so used to communicating on Facebook that we no longer see it for the prophetical fulfillment it truly is. As of 2018, Facebook had 2,300,000,000 daily users posting and reading content around the globe, and is growing at a rate of 17% each year. Is short, it is the single greatest communication device ever conceived by mankind, second only to the Internet itself.

Remember years ago, when all these things were still yet future, and we were all so sure we would be able to recognize the One World System when it showed up and vowed to never be a part of it? Well…looks like we didn’t do so well with that one. It’s here and we’re in it.

‘Beyond Sketchy’: Facebook Demanding Some New Users’ Email Passwords

FROM THE DAILY BEAST: Facebook users are being interrupted by an interstitial demanding they provide the password for the email account they gave to Facebook when signing up. “To continue using Facebook, you’ll need to confirm your email,” the message demands. “Since you signed up with [email address], you can do that automatically …”

A form below the message asked for the users’ “email password.”

“That’s beyond sketchy,” security consultant Jake Williams told the Daily Beast. “They should not be taking your password or handling your password in the background. If that’s what’s required to sign up with Facebook, you’re better off not being on Facebook.”

In a statement emailed to The Daily Beast after this story published, Facebook reiterated its claim it doesn’t store the email passwords. But the company also announced it will end the practice altogether.

“We understand the password verification option isn’t the best way to go about this, so we are going to stop offering it,” Facebook wrote.

It’s not clear how widely the new measure was deployed, but in its statement Facebook said users retain the option of bypassing the password demand and activating their account through more conventional means, such as “a code sent to their phone or a link sent to their email.” Those options are presented to users who click on the words “Need help?” in one corner of the page.

The additional login step was noticed over the weekend by a cybersecurity watcher on Twitter called “e-sushi.” The Daily Beast tested the claim by establishing a new Facebook account under circumstances the company’s system might flag as suspicious, using a disposable webmail address and connecting through a VPN in Romania. A reporter was taken to the same screen demanding the email password.

“By going down that road, you’re practically fishing for passwords you are not supposed to know!,” e-sushi wrote in a tweet.

Small print below the password field promises, “Facebook won’t store your password.” But the company has recently been criticized for repurposing information it originally acquired for “security” reasons.

Last year Facebook was caught allowing advertisers to target its users using phone numbers users provided for two-factor authentication; users handed over their numbers so Facebook could send a text message with a secret code when they log in. More recently the company drew the ire of privacy advocates when it began making those phone numbers searchable, so anyone can locate the matching user “in defiance of user expectations and security best practices,” wrote the Electronic Frontier Foundation, a civil liberties group.

Facebook also has a checkered history when it comes to securely handling passwords. Last month the company acknowledged that unencrypted passwords for hundreds of millions of its users had been stored for years in company logs accessible to 2,000 employees. READ MORE

Alexander’s Column: On the Border — Never Let a Serious Crisis Go to Waste…

Democrats will hold the line, seeing the crisis on the border as a political opening to loosen immigration policy and grow their voter constituency pipeline.

When Donald Trump announced his candidacy on 16 June 2015, he made economic growth, fair trade, and border security/immigration reform the centerpieces of his campaign. In his now-familiar brash New York bravado, he declared, “I will build a great wall ― and nobody builds walls better than me, believe me ― and I’ll build them very inexpensively. I will build a great, great wall on our southern border, and I will make Mexico pay for that wall.”

After his election in November 2016, he clarified, “For certain areas I would [build a fence], but certain areas, a wall is more appropriate.”

On 25 January 2017, among his earliest initiatives as president, he signed Executive Order 13767, “Border Security and Immigration Enforcement Improvements,” giving direction to the Department of Homeland Security as well as U.S. Customs and Border Protection to enhance border barriers and security. He cited the Immigration and Nationality Act (8 U.S.C. 1101 et seq.), the Secure Fence Act of 2006, and the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996.

DHS estimated the cost of secure barriers, walls, and fencing along our southern border to be $21 billion — substantially more than the Trump administration’s estimate. DHS also estimated the project would take three years to complete.

In February, Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto canceled a state visit to the White House, protesting, “Mexico does not believe in walls. I’ve said time again; Mexico will not pay for any wall.” Clearly not. Generations of American politicians have campaigned on curbing illegal immigration, but did little or nothing about it, believing it would be unpopular with Hispanic and Latino constituencies and bad for business. (In December 2018, Trump declared, “Mexico is paying for the wall because the trade deal is billions and billions of dollars better than the old NAFTA trade deal.”)

That was the beginning of the border debacle that now pits Trump against Democrat Party leaders who gave regular lip service to border security — until Trump made it a centerpiece of his presidential platform.

So, how did we arrive at the current deadlock?

Given that Trump cut deeply into blue-collar Democrat territory in 2016, Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer adopted a strategy to flip-flop on border security in order to appease their Hispanic and Latino constituents. After years of advocating for border security on behalf of their lower- and middle-income constituents — because we all know that illegal immigration puts downward pressure on American workers’ wages — Democrat leaders have since calculated that the only way to defeat Trump is to redouble their appeal to Hispanics and Latinos. But Democrats don’t care about illegal immigrants and their children — beyond their usefulness as political fodder.

What followed was the rapid growth of so-called sanctuary cities, leftist-controlled enclaves advocating open borders and protection from deportation, which naturally invited illegal immigrants to swarm the border. Just over a year into Trump’s administration, there were more than 500 declared sanctuary zones. At the same time, Democrats encouraged the practice of anchor-baby citizenship to ensure a pipeline of future Hispanic voters.

In his 2018 State of the Union, President Trump clearly articulated his immigration and border-security policy, and he condemned the Left’s flip-flop against American workers.

Fortunately for Democrats, they were able to surf the phony Trump/Russia collusion wave during the 2018 midterm elections and regain control of the House.

I note “fortunately for Democrats” because, as it turns out, the efficacy of their flip-flop on illegal immigration is not as clear as they’d hoped. Many legal and illegal immigrants in the U.S. now know what blue-collar American workers knew in 2016 — that illegal immigration puts downward pressure on their wages.

In January, an NPR/PBS NewsHour/Marist poll found that Hispanic and Latino approval of President Trump surged 19 points in just one month to 50%. A McLaughlin & Associates survey in March confirmed the January surge.

Fortunately for the nation, the Demos’ fake collusion narrative, which provided them victory last November, is finally falling apart.

But the Demo House majority has created much greater obstacles for Trump’s border and immigration policy objectives. He responded in late December with a partial government shutdown, a flawed attempt to break the congressional logjam.

Responding to the shutdown, Pelosi declared, “The fact is, we all agree we need to secure our borders. … The fact is, the women and children at the border are not a security threat; they are a humanitarian challenge — a challenge that President Trump’s own cruel and counterproductive policies have only deepened.”

The fact is, Pelosi has that exactly backwards, and she knows it.

The Democrats have advertised to poor people in Central America that we have an open border, and this has cruelly encouraged the caravans flooding north and overwhelmed border-security personnel with immigrants who have been coached to falsely claim asylum. Democrats have thus created the humanitarian and security crisis on our southern border.

On February 15, in another tactical move to break the border-policy deadlock, Trump signed an emergency declaration in order to bypass Congress and fund his border-security plan. Emergency declarations have been issued more than 50 times by the last six presidents, and for matters far less urgent than this one.

The declaration calls for $8.1 billion from various sources, including $3.6 billion from DoD construction projects, $2.5 billion from DoD drug-interdiction funds, and $600 million from the Treasury Forfeiture Fund.

According to Trump, “The law is 100% on my side.” And Georgetown constitutional law professor Jonathan Turley, a Democrat, affirms that he is correct. According to Turley: “Congress expressly gave presidents the authority to declare such emergencies and act unilaterally. The 1976 National Emergencies Act gives presidents sweeping authority as well as allowance … to declare an ‘immigration emergency’ to deal with an ‘influx of aliens which either is of such magnitude … that effective administration of the immigration laws of the United States is beyond the existing capabilities’ of immigration authorities…. The basis for such an invocation generally includes the ‘likelihood of continued growth in the magnitude of the influx,’ rising criminal activity … and ‘other circumstances.'”

Predictably, Pelosi immediately responded with a legislative proposal to reject the declaration, which the president vetoed, saying, “As President, the protection of the nation is my highest duty. Congress passed a dangerous resolution that, if signed into law, would put countless Americans in danger — very grave danger.”

Pelosi couldn’t muster the votes to override his veto, so the declaration stands. Undeterred, Schumer and Pelosi then issued memos to Demos and their Leftmedia echo chambers to parrot their talking point that Trump’s objective was to “manufacture a crisis, stoke fear and divert attention from the turmoil in his administration.” And they all dutifully did just that.

On March 15, the president reiterated his defense of the declaration, saying, “The situation at the southern border is rapidly deteriorating.”

And indeed it has continued to do so.

Here, then, is a current assessment of the crisis Pelosi and company manufactured on our southern border — in the name of political expedience.

According to former Obama Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson: “When I was in office, in Kirstjen Nielsen’s job at her desk, I got to work around 6:30 in the morning and there’d be my intelligence book sitting on my desk — the PDP and also the apprehension numbers from the day before — and I would look at them every morning. It would be the first thing I looked at and I probably got too close to the problem. And my staff will tell you if it was under 1,000 apprehensions the day before, that was a relatively good number; and if it was above 1,000, it was a relatively bad number, and I was going to be in a bad mood the whole day. On [March 26] there were 4,000 apprehensions. I know that 1,000 overwhelms the system and I cannot begin to imagine what 4,000 a day looks like. So we are truly in a crisis.”

Johnson thoroughly debunked the Demo chorus that Trump “manufactured the crisis,” adding, “By anyone’s definition, by any measure, right now we have a crisis at our southern border. Four thousand apprehensions on our southern border in one day, 100,000 in a month, is a crisis.”

Nielsen, Trump’s DHS secretary, concluded this week: “The situation at our southern border has gone from a crisis to near system-wide meltdown. As the president has declared — this is a national emergency. … Late last year, we were apprehending 50,000-60,000 migrants a month at the southern border. Last month, we apprehended more than 75,000, the highest in over a decade. And now we are nearing 100,000 migrants per month. … Because of outdated laws, misguided court decisions, and a massive backlog of cases, the majority of those who do not have a legal right to stay in the United States will never be removed. Smugglers and traffickers know these weaknesses, and they are taking advantage of what they see as a ‘free ticket’ into America.”

Brandon Judd, president of the National Border Patrol union, said Tuesday, “This is the worst crisis the Border Patrol has ever faced in the history of the Border Patrol and we’re going back to 1924. In my 21-year career as a Border Patrol agent, I’ve never seen it like this, and I’ve worked in the busiest locations. … In the history of the Border Patrol it’s never been like this before. This is the worst it’s ever been and if we don’t do something it’s going to continue to get worse.”

Even the Democrats’ Leftmedia lemmings are acknowledging that the border crisis is not “manufactured,” including both the The Washington Post and The New York Times.

Fact is, by any measure there is also a crisis within our borders.

Illegal immigrants are net consumers of taxpayer services, costing federal, state, and local governments more than $8,000 per person annually. That’s more than $135 billion a year, primarily for “free” education ($46 billion), medical services ($29 billion), law enforcement ($23 billion), and welfare ($9 billion).

Illegal immigrants pay approximately $19 billion in taxes, and the net cost to American taxpayers is about $116 billion. The net taxpayer cost over the lifetime of a single illegal-immigrant laborer is approximately $231,000.

Of course, we really don’t know and won’t know the full extent of the illegal-immigrant cost and crisis within our borders, or where the greatest distribution of federal taxpayer dollars are being allocated to support illegal immigrants, because Democrats are blocking citizenship questions on the next census. If they are successful in the courts, they will succeed at artificially inflating the population demographics of “sanctuary” cities and states to increase their electoral representation.

Regardless, Pelosi and Schumer are standing firm in support of their open-border policies and the humanitarian crisis they’ve created.

Thus, President Trump fired an additional shot over the Democrats’ bow, announcing this week that his next step might be to shut down the border entirely until Democrats come around.

Trump declared, “Security is more important to me than trade. We’re going to have a strong border, or we’re going to have a closed border.”

The president says he wants action by both Mexico and Congress. “If they don’t, or if we don’t make a deal with Congress, the border’s going to be closed, 100%. We’re going to close the border … or we’re going to close large sections of the border. But it’s the only way we’re getting a response, and I’m totally ready to do it.”

Trump is taking considerable heat from both sides of the political aisle because of the projected impact of a total border closure. The administration is considering a modified border-closure strategy, leaving the border open to commercial traffic but shutting down all noncommercial and foot traffic.

Mexico got the message, at least temporarily, and authorities there are apprehending thousands of immigrants on their own southern border. Additionally, the Mexican government has promised to restrict migrants’ transit visas and deport those attempting to get to the United States who don’t have proper documentation.

Trump’s response: “We’ll see.”

But make no mistake, Democrats will hold the line. Adhering to the advice of Obama’s former chief of staff, Rahm Emanuel, “You never want a serious crisis to go to waste,” they see the crisis on the border as a political opening to loosen constraints on immigration and grow their voter constituency pipeline.

To that end, this week Julian Castro became the first Demo 2020 candidate to propose a border-crisis “solution” — claiming he is “putting people first,” but most certainly not the American people. His proposal is basically a Demo-voter open-border pipeline plan promoting unlimited immigration, extending citizenship and voting rights to illegal immigrants, and subverting enforcement of immigration laws.

I would suggest that the Trump administration add an additional tactic: Start every day by highlighting in the White House briefing the violent assaults and murders being committed by illegal immigrants — and hang those tragedies around Democrat necks.

Bottom line: The immigration policy debacle is not about “The Wall.” It’s about the abject disregard of U.S. sovereignty by elected Democrats and their media minions in order to ensure electoral dominance in the future.

Finally, for the record, it’s worth once again reviewing what Democrats said when they were in favor of border security…

Nancy Pelosi: “Do we have a commitment to secure the border? Yes. … While we need to address the issue of immigration and the challenge we have of undocumented people … we certainly don’t want any more coming in.”

Chuck Schumer: “People who enter the U.S. without our permission are illegal aliens, and illegal aliens should not be treated the same as people who enter the U.S. legally. … When we use phrases like ‘undocumented workers,’ we convey to the American people that their government is not serious about combatting illegal immigration. … I think it is illegal and wrong.”

Barack Obama: “We are a generous and welcoming people here in the United States, but those who enter our country illegally, and those who employ them, disrespect the rule of law, and they are showing disregard for those who are following the law. We simply cannot allow people to poor into the United States undetected, undocumented, unchecked, circumventing the line of people who are waiting patiently, diligently and lawfully, to become immigrants.”

Hillary Clinton: “We have to send a clear message — just because your child gets across the border, that doesn’t mean your child gets to stay. We don’t want to send a message that is contrary to our laws.”

Bill Clinton: “All Americans, not only in the states most heavily affected but in every place in this country, are rightly disturbed by the large numbers of illegal aliens entering our country. NYT: ‘Creepy’ Joe Biden May Be Sunk; 2020 Enemies Crank Out Political Ad Using Molestation Footage | ZeroHedge News

As the list of women coming forward with #MeToo claims against ‘creepy’ Joe Biden grows (we’re up to four now, including a survivor of sexual assault), the New York Times reports that the 76-year-old politician’s “tactile style” may put a damper on his 2020 ambitions in the #MeToo era.

The four women who have come forward detailing their uncomfortable Biden encounters are;

  • Lucy Flores, 39, who accused Biden of grabbing her shoulders during a 2014 political event, pulling her towards him, ‘inhaling’ her hair, and planting a “big slow kiss” on the back of her head.
  • Amy Lappos, 43, who accused Biden of touching her inappropriately at 2009 fundraiser when she was a congressional aide to Rep. Jim Himes (D-CT)
  • Caitlyn Caruso, a 22-year-old survivor of sexual assault who told the New York Times that Biden “rested his hand on her thigh – even as she squirmed in her seat to show her discomfort,” three years ago, before hugging her “just a little bit too long.”
  • D.J. Hill, a 59-year-old writer who recalled a 2012 encounter at a Minneapolis fundraiser where Biden “put his hand on her shoulder and then started dropping it down her back, which made her “very uncomfortable.”” according to The Times.

While Biden’s decades of creepy behavior has been well documented – and ridiculed over the years by late night comics and Saturday Night Live – everything changed after the October 2017 revelation that Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein had allegedly molested dozens of women.

The scandal sparked the #MeToo movement of women coming forward with stories of sexual assault – while feminists across the country made clear that unwanted male advances and condescending ‘mansplaining’ would no longer be tolerated.

Given the new environment, Biden’s once-ridiculed conduct has become serious and ‘problematic’ (as they say), as video after video of the former Vice President molesting women and children provides a montage of the very ‘toxic masculinity’ that social justice warriors have spent the last two years condemning.

And as Paul Joseph Watson of Summit News notes (PJW’s new venture), Biden’s adversaries, namely the Great America PAC, have already turned his grabby gaffes into a political advertisement. 

Of note, the Great America PAC has put MSM journalists on notice and are “geared up for any nonsense to come” from reporters who peddled the Russiagate narrative before Trump was cleared of collusion by special counsel Robert Mueller.

Any reporter who tries that will be hit with 30-second spots of all their ridiculous claims about collusion,” one source told The Atlantic on condition of anonymity. “Their tweets have all been screencapped. It’s all ready to go.

Biden’s defenders – including actress Alyssa Milano, who went from “Believe all women” to “Cut Joe some slack” – have mounted a vigorous defense of the former Vice President.

For starters, a Democratic source told the Daily Beast that Biden’s camp thinks Bernie Sanders is behind the new campaign – a charge the Sanders campaign has denied.

“Neither the Bernie Sanders campaign nor anyone involved in it, planted, planned, persuaded, cajoled or otherwise urged Lucy Flores or anyone else to tell their story. Full stop, period, end of sentence. I don’t want to hear it. We didn’t play a role,” said Sanders campaign manager Faiz Shakir.

“But this is why my blood boils,” Shakir added. “We have heard through innuendo and rumors that somehow this campaign was involved in Lucy Flores telling her story and it is deeply disrespectful and shameful that any time a woman comes forward to tell her story there has to be some kind of intimation or suggestion that that person is doing so out of some political agenda and or that the person may be lying… It is shameful.”

One Democratic operative in touch with Biden’s team said that aides “were ready for this,” since photos and videos of Biden walking up to, if not skirting, these lines have been publicized in the past. “But living it is a lot different than thinking it will come out,” the operative added. “Seeing the stories live is different than hearing, ‘Oh yeah, everyone has a Biden story.’”

Faced with these stories, Biden’s team has pivoted—operating much more as an actual campaign than a campaign in waiting, both practically and tonally. An email was circulated among the Biden faithful on Monday urging them to push back on any insinuation this will impact his decision making, after it took over 24 hours for the vice president to make an initial statement following the Friday allegation.

Some of the push-back has happened organically, however. Over his decades in public office, Biden employed numerous top female aides, many of whom have gone on to take top roles in women’s advocacy organizations and political operations. Those alumni quickly began putting out statements and testimonials vouching for Biden’s integrity and trumpeting the work he has done on women’s issues, most notably the passage of the Violence Against Women Act.  –Daily Beast

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), meanwhile, said this week that accusations of inappropriate molestation levied against former Vice President Joe Biden do “not at all” disqualify him from seeking the presidency in 2020.

Pelosi on Tuesday told Politico Playbook that Biden’s intention should be the determining factor. 

JAKE SHERMAN: You’ve known Joe Biden for thirty-something years, right? What is your reaction to these allegations? Now there’s two people who have said he made them feel uncomfortable. Is it disqualifying and what is your reaction to that?

NANCY PELOSI: I don’t think it’s disqualifying because I think disqualifying is what your intention is. I do think this about communication, in general, beyond this. I’m a member of the straight-arm club. I’m a straight arm-er. I just pretend you have a cold and I have a cold. But, I think that it’s important for the vice president and others to understand is it isn’t what you intended, it’s how it was received

Pelosi added that her grandchildren “love Joe Biden,” adding “He’s an affectionate person to children, to senior citizens, to everyone. That’s just the way he is.”

John Kennedy Responds to Biden Allegations: ‘This Is No Country for Creepy Old Men’ — National Review

Senator John Kennedy (R., La.) on Wednesday said the invasive behavior ascribed to former vice president Joe Biden by two women was “creepy” and suggested the country would no longer tolerate politicians who are seen to abuse their power.

“This is no country for creepy old men. And it needs to stop. Do I consider it inappropriate to smell someone’s hair? To get so close that I smell their hair? Yes! I mean duh! Somebody gets close enough to smell my hair they might get to smell my hair but they might lose some teeth,” Kennedy told reporters on Capitol Hill. “It’s inappropriate! But other than that I don’t know what to say. This is no county for creepy old men. And leaning in and smelling a guys hair or a woman’s hair is a little bit too close.”

Two women have now accused Biden of invading their personal space in a way that made them uncomfortable during his time as vice president.

Lucy Flores, a former Nevada state assemblywoman, claimed in a New York Magazine expose published Friday that Biden approached her from behind and “inhaled” her hair before kissing the back of her neck during a campaign event in 2014.

Amy Lappos, a former Congressional aide, told the Hartford Courant that Biden pulled her face toward his and rubbed his nose against hers during a fundraiser in 2009.

In a series of statements released last week, Biden vowed to listen his accusers but maintained that he had never intended to make anyone uncomfortable. Then, in a statement released on Monday, Biden’s spokeswoman accused journalists and “right-wing trolls” of taking innocent photos out of context to discredit Biden ahead of a possible 2020 Democratic primary bid.

“These smears and forgeries have existed in the dark recesses of the Internet for a while. And to this day, right wing trolls and others continue to exploit them for their own gain,” said Bill Russo.

New ‘Creepy Joe Biden’ Ad Is Devastating: ‘Our Children ARE Watching. What Example Will We Set For Them?’ — The Gateway Pundit

A top political action committee that supports President Trump has released a new spot titled “Creepy Joe Biden.” So far, the video has just 6,600 views — but expect that number to skyrocket shortly.

The 60-second ad opens with shots of dimly lit homes, then faces of children who appear to be watching something, perhaps TV.

Then it cuts to a shot of Nevada state legislator Lucy Flores, a Democrat, telling CNN host Jake Tapper about her creepy interaction with the former vice president, who appeared with her at a campaign event in 2014.

“It happened all so suddenly, very unexpectedly, out of nowhere,” she says. “I feel Joe Biden put his hands on my shoulders, get up very close to me from behind, lean in, smell my hair and then plant a slow kiss on the top of my head.” As she recounts the incident, shots of Biden doing the same thing with other women and even children play on the screen, again as children appear to be watching.

“To have the vice president of the United States do that to me, so unexpectedly and just kind of out of nowhere, it was just shocking. It was shocking because you don’t expect that kind of intimate behavior, to touch you and to feel you and to be so close to you in that way,” Flores says.

The screen then goes black, and the words “Our children are watching” appear. “What example will we set for them?” the ad says, then concludes by posting a web address — StopJoeBiden.com

The Great America PAC put “six figures” into the ad, The Hill reported.

“The recent accusations leveled against Joe Biden are particularly troubling when viewed in the full context of the history and patterns of the Vice President,” said Ed Rollins, the chairman of Great America PAC. “During the Kavanaugh confirmation, Biden himself said Christine Blasey Ford ‘should be given the benefit of the doubt.’ Sadly, Democrats are now being incredibly hypocritical by ignoring or dismissing these episodes, which they never do against our side. So, using the format of Clinton’s 2016 ad is the perfect way to detail this disturbing behavior by Biden as well as the Democrats’ blatant hypocrisy.”

On Monday, another woman came forward. Amy Lappos told The Hartford Courant that “Biden touched her inappropriately and rubbed noses with her during a 2009 political fundraiser in Greenwich when he was vice president. … “There’s absolutely a line of decency,” she added. “There’s a line of respect. Crossing that line is not grandfatherly. It’s not cultural. It’s not affection. It’s sexism or misogyny.”

Then on Tuesday, two more women emerged. “Caitlyn Caruso, a former college student and sexual assault survivor, said Mr. Biden rested his hand on her thigh — even as she squirmed in her seat to show her discomfort — and hugged her ‘just a little bit too long’ at an event on sexual assault at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. She was 19,” The New York Times reported.

D. J. Hill, 59, a writer who recalled meeting Mr. Biden in 2012 at a fund-raising event in Minneapolis, said that when she and her husband, Robert, stepped up to take their photograph with the vice president, he put his hand on her shoulder and then started dropping it down her back, which made her “very uncomfortable.”

Biden has said his touchy-feely ways are merely “expressions of affection,” and does not think he “acted inappropriately.”

“In my many years on the campaign trail and in public life, I have offered countless handshakes, hugs, expressions of affection, support and comfort. And not once — never — did I believe I acted inappropriately. If it is suggested I did so, I will listen respectfully,” he said in a statement Sunday.

“But it was never my intention. I may not recall these moments the same way, and I may be surprised at what I hear. But we have arrived at an important time when women feel they can and should relate their experiences, and men should pay attention. And I will.”

Policing, gentrification, housing, immigration, schools, and mental health are all issues that disproportionately impact queer and trans people of color, and Lightfoot’s stances in these areas have been heinous.

Being familiar with Scott’s work through Stand to Reason I was looking forward to this book with much anticipation. Scott is one of the most able, articulate, persuasive, and winsome pro-life speakers in the country and his book does not fail to deliver.

A Catholic asks Francis Chan to bring her and her church a message as evangelist…Chan’s answer is shocking — The End Time


Two weeks ago I wrote an essay about Francis Chan titled “Francis Chan is apostatizing before our eyes” and the next day I followed up with “A few further resources on Francis Chan“.

Mr Chan was big news in March, because he was participating in a conference called The Send, at which were false or heretical preachers including Bill Johnson, Daniel Kolenda, Lou Engle, Todd White, Benny Hinn, Jesus Culture, Hillsong, etc. These men are the rankest of the rank heretics, and many people have become concerned that Chan continually persists in attending conferences such as these, where heretics reign. The concerned ones cited the verse to Chan, Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness? (2 Corinthians 6:14). Chan revealed that many people spoke to him, imploring him to correct his course and stop affirming these people as brothers. His response? “Whatever.” (18:30-19:30).

For example, Chan first appeared as a speaker in 2013 at the International House of Prayer’s conference, OneThing, in 2013 with Mike Bickle. He repeated his attendance there in subsequent years. Chan explained in 2018’s conference that actually he initiated the first invitation to OneThing. Chan had sent an email to Mike Bickle, asking to participate in OneThing, not necessarily as a speaker but because he wanted to be a part of what was going on there. They made him a speaker. Chan accepted.

Chan did this because he said he’s impressed with Bickle having “led people into the presence of God 24/7 for 20 years, and I just want to be around…” and also “because of when the Lord speaks to Mike and tells him about things…there’s a trust I have in Mike. If the Lord has been speaking to you [Mike], and you have been learning things from the Word, I just want to come under that and I want to learn from that.”

With these statements, Chan affirms that he relies on charismatic utterances and believes that the Lord speaks today to individuals outside of and apart from the Bible. He said as much in 2019, stating on his We Are Church website, that his “theology leaves some room for hearing directly from God.” Chan must have learned well during these years of participating and learning from charismatic folks like Mike Bickle, because now Chan regularly hears from God himself, too.

In defending his decisions to tacitly affirm these false teachers and heretics, Chan has in the very recent past explained why he participates in them. Chan told Christianity Today last month that it is because he wants to preach the word. Oh. Again, why?

The short answer: to share the truth. … Chan warned followers that he plans to continue to accept invitations to conferences whose speakers fall outside his own beliefs. “I recognize, now more than ever, that sometimes my participation can give the impression that I align with every other speaker at the event. I’m not sure what to do about that other than to tell you that I don’t,” he said.

Oh, but he does. He absolutely does, more than he aligns these days with Protestant evangelicals. He said in the 2018 OneThing stage that he was intrigued by Bickle’s ability to hear from God and wanted to ‘come under that and learn from that’. This is the opposite of sharing the truth.

But wait, it gets worse. A friend recently made me aware of a video from OneThing 2018. It is the entirety of Chan’s session at the Catholic Ecumenical track of the conference. Did you know that the IHoP’s intention is to minimize the doctrinal lines between the Catholic/Orthodox/Coptic Church and the true Bride of Christ? That folks there accept and promote Catholicism as part of Christ’s church? That they consider the Catholic/Orthodox/Coptics as just another denomination, another ‘tradition’? At the sessions at OneThing’s Catholic Ecumenical Track, they sing Taize Chants and Lectio Divina, Chanting Liturgy of the Hours, they have Mass, and they engage in ‘new evangelism‘. New Evangelism is a program in Catholic church where they seek to re-evangelize Catholics who have fallen away from the Catholic church. And if errant Protestants are evangelized into the Catholic Church, too, all the better.

Back to Chan’s Catholic Ecumenical stream video. Catholic Musician Matt Maher introduces Chan, and Chan goes on to speak for a length of time about his wish that the ‘labels, boxes, and categories’ as Chan calls them, things that keep Catholics and Protestants apart, are just that, labels. Chan continually affirms Catholics as brethren, and affirms Maher as a brother.

But wait, it gets worse.

Before I write this next bit, please understand that this pains me greatly. When I watched the video and got to this part, it was a ‘crossing the Rubicon‘ moment for me. I realize that even though much material is available online that documents Francis Chan’s growing apostasy, many people are not aware, or haven’t looked, or refuse to put the pieces together that form the conclusion I have arrived at. That’s OK. We are all at different places on the discernment line, and everyone has their one moment when they step off. For me, Chan has stepped away from orthodoxy and aligned himself on the other side of the river where the false teachers and heretics are. To me, he is gone.

This moment in the video is my own jump the shark moment. Chan says he goes to these conferences because he loves the organizers, and he loves the people who come, and he wants to share the word. But this moment unquestionably demonstrates, he does not. Not any of it.

At the 52-minute mark, we see a woman at the microphone identify herself as Catholic. She asks Chan the following:

I wanted to thank you for being here as well. This is my one comment. This morning when I saw you and you started speaking I said ‘I just love his heart’ and the Lord said to me, ‘It’s because he has my heart.”‘

Ummm, Okayyy. She continues please note that her reference to reset is the theme of 2018’s conference,

I wanted to ask a question…as we’re in this church, (gesturing to their immediate location) I feel like this reset is also for Catholics and the whole church. This is a call for all of us to go deeper into the heart of the Lord. As I’m reflecting on that and as I’m trying to enter into some of the challenges in our own church, I just wanted to ask in your eyes…like, you gave a beautiful word this morning about being an outsider stepping in and having a word,

I wanted to see if you had any words for the Catholic Church and the time that we’re in, what you see as an evangelist in the church, the needs and the heart of the church as someone who loves the bride as well and what message that would be for our church today and the tensions that we face. [italics mine]

You see what she is asking. You hear her voice and hear the sincerity. You can practically hear her soul begging for truth. When she is finished you hear Chan go “Wow”. You hear the audience go ‘Whoa’. The audience laughs nervously then whoops. They know what she is asking. Here is the moment! The Rubicon River is flowing in front of Chan at his feet! Here is the very reason Chan says he comes to these places! To speak the word! To evangelize! At last, to proclaim Christ to those who ‘believe differently!’ She opened the door wide for him to share the seeds of the Gospel with lost souls!! To explain. What will he say?

Chan responds. “I don’t believe I’m supposed to answer that question. …” “I don’t believe the Holy Spirit wants me to answer that question.”

WHAAAAAT?!?!?!? Nooooo…


He begins his response by saying to the woman, pointing to her,

“It’s that spirit that I love”. He enters a 1 1/2-minute segue about his son-in-law and goes on a rabbit trail on the badness of doctrinal differences. Then Chan praises the woman for her seeking heart and her spirit of wanting to know, of the importance of wanting to conform to what is in the Bible (waves Bible). He thanks her for so earnestly “wanting to know.”

Then he keeps her in the dark.

He stops and looks up to the ceiling silently for 15 long seconds. That’s when he says the Spirit doesn’t want him to answer.

A Catholic woman asked him, as an evangelist, what message he had for those struggling in this day in the Catholic church. Chan had none.

Do you realize how repulsive this is? Do you realize how blasphemous this is?

He did the most unloving things a person, especially an evangelist, could ever do. He kept the Gospel seeds to himself. Worse, he co-opted the Holy Spirit in his repugnant answer.

I wept.

The session included four priests and Maher praying over Chan, to which Chan submitted. Maher washed Chan’s feet, also something to which he submitted.

When Chan responded that the Holy Spirit did not want Chan to give an answer to the lost person asking for a message from the evangelist, it was disobedience (1 Peter 3:15) and it was blasphemy. Why? It involves “blasphemy against the Holy Spirit” (Matthew 12:31-32). Though the blasphemy against the Spirit verse has been argued over and controversially understood, John MacArthur’s explanation has made the most sense to me over the years.

Those who spoke against the Holy Spirit were those who saw His divine power working in and through Jesus but willfully refused to accept the implications of that revelation and, in some cases, attributed that power to Satan.

The leaders of Israel committed the unpardonable sin, and what was that unpardonable sin?  It was attributing to Satan the work of the Holy Spirit. Remember that? It was attributing to Satan the work of the Holy Spirit, Matthew 12:31-32. What’s going on today is the opposite. Attributing to the Holy Spirit the work of Satan.

It is the Holy Spirit’s ministry to point to the Lord of Truth. To illuminate the Word to people’s minds. To draw them to Christ. The Spirit would never ever ‘tell’ an evangelist NOT to share the truth. Chan’s reasons for not doing so were meager and paltry “I don’t know you well enough”. “It isn’t the right time”. But mainly because “The Spirit doesn’t want me to”. It is satan who does not want us to share the truth. It is satan who delays the sharing of the word. It is satan who makes cowardly the supposedly passionate evangelist. What happened here is that Chan attributed the work of satan to the Holy Spirit.

Did John MacArthur hesitate when asked the question put to him by Jewish man Ben Shapiro? No. That is the work of the Spirit. The seeds were sown. The growth is given to the Spirit. But MacArthur was faithful to share. Did Justin Peters hesitate to share the truth at any time he was asked on his many travels? No, never. He turned up the volume, in fact.

Chan instead pretended to be hearing from the Spirit and attributed his failure and cowardice to Him. Shame on him for being ashamed of the Gospel.

Ladies, I urge you to mark and avoid Francis Chan. Absorbing his materials and speeches would cost too much. Following him would cost too much. What would it cost?

–to begin to see the canon as open
–to seek and accept personal revelation from Jesus or the Spirit
–to partner with heretics
–to wave away and gloss over foundational doctrinal differences that make the faith The Faith
–to call foundational doctrinal differences with heretical churches merely labels or denominations or boxes
–to drop out of church, calling it a problematic institution
–to avoid submission to orthodox elders but instead to seek submission to heretics
–to become an evangelist who will not evangelize
–to become a hypocrite

That last two are a logical end game to one who will not describe and adhere to doctrines that make Christianity what it is. If there are no doctrinal lines, all people are your brother. If there are no doctrinal lines and we’re all brothers, there is no need to evangelize. Sadly, one becomes a hypocrite who blasphemes the Spirit.

First computer-generated genome could lead to custom synthetic lifeforms
Scientists at ETH Zurich have created the first fully computer-generated genome of a living organism. The brand new genome, named Caulobacter ethensis-2.0, was built by essentially cleaning up and simplifying the natural code of a bacterium called Caulobacter crescentus. For now it exists as one large DNA molecule and not a living organism itself, but the team says this is a huge step towards creating completely synthetic life and medicinal DNA molecules.

17. But, in warning you as to this, I do not praise. For I translate it in this way, because Paul appears to have made the participle and the verb change places.2 I am also not satisfied with the interpretation of Erasmus, who takes παραγγέλλειν as meaning to command. The verb to warn would suit better, but as to this I do not contend. There is an antithesis between this clause and the beginning of this chapter. “While I have praised you, do not think that it is unqualified commendation; for I have something to find fault with, as it is worthy of severe reproof.” This, however, in my opinion, does not refer exclusively to the Lord’s Supper, but also to other faults of which he makes mention. Let this then be taken as a general statement, that the Corinthians are reproved, because they came together not for the better but for the worse. Particular effects of this evil will be brought forward afterwards.

He finds fault with them, then, in the first place, because they come not together for the better,—and secondly, that they come together for the worse. The second, it is true, is the more serious, but even the first is not to be endured, for if we consider what is transacted in the Church, there ought never to be a coming together without some fruit. There the doctrine of God is listened to, prayers are offered up, the Sacraments are administered. The fruit of the Word is, when confidence in God and fear of him are increased in us—when progress is made in holiness of life—when we put off more and more the old man, (Col. 3:9)—when we advance in newness of life, &c. (Rom. 6:4.) The Sacraments have a tendency to exercise us in piety and love. The prayers, too, ought to be of use for promoting all these purposes. In addition to this, the Lord works efficaciously by his Spirit, because he wills not that his ordinances should be vain. Hence if the sacred assemblies are of no benefit to us, and we are not made better by them, it is our ingratitude that is to blame, and therefore we deserve to be reproved. For the effect of our conduct is, that those things, which, from their own nature, and from God’s appointment, ought to have been salutary, become unprofitable.

Then follows the second fault—that they come together for the worse. This is much more criminal, and yet it almost always follows the other, for if we derive no advantage from God’s benefits, he employs this method of punishing our carelessness—that we are made worse by them. It usually happens, too, that negligence gives birth to many corruptions, especially on this account, that those who do not observe the natural use of things usually fall erelong into hurtful inventions.[1]

Paul uses the verb “to come together” (synerchomai, GK 5302) to denote assembling for worship; he uses it five times in this section (vv. 17, 18, 20, 33, 34) and twice in ch. 14 (vv. 23, 26; these are the only uses of this verb outside the Gospels and Acts). Paul is unhappy with what he has been hearing about the Corinthian experience of the Lord’s Supper and the meal that accompanied it.[2]

11:17 / Paul identifies and criticizes a problem or problems related to when the Corinthians come together. He takes a point of departure from the beginning of the previous section (11:2), where he had praised the Corinthians; now he says by contrast that he is unable to praise them for what they are doing in their meetings. Paul literally writes, “But this charging I do not praise.” This introductory line is transitional and, at a glance, ambiguous in point of reference. The niv rightly recognizes that Paul is looking forward at this point rather than back to the previous lines, so one reads, In the following directives. The subject that Paul is about to address is the meetings of the Corinthian congregation. In what follows he will take up a sequence of unpraiseworthy activities that include behavior at the Lord’s Supper (11:17–34) and the use of spiritual gifts in worship (12:1–14:25); he corrects the various misunderstandings and misbehaviors as he discusses these problems and then sets out guidelines for orderly worship (14:26–40).

There is an undertone of irony when Paul says that he is not able to praise the Corinthians at this point, because his readers would not have felt particularly flattered by Paul’s remarks in the previous section of the letter (vv. 2–16). In this section Paul is even more blunt. He says the Corinthians’ gathering is not for the better but for the worse; the results of the congregational assembly are negative. To paraphrase sensibly, one might say that the congregational assembly did more harm than good.[3]

Words of Rebuke (11:17)

Supporting Idea: Paul criticized the Corinthians for their disrespectful worship practices.

11:17. In the preceding section, Paul had begun with words of praise. But here he said, I have no praise for you. Paul’s disgust with the Corinthians focused on how their meetings, or public worship gatherings, did more harm than good. Paul did not condemn them absolutely and categorically—he had already praised them for holding to many of his teachings on worship (11:2). Yet, his assessment was that the harm of their worship times outweighed the good.

What kinds of things would yield this kind of condemnation? The Corinthians had corrupted one of the most sacred events in Christian worship: the Lord’s Supper. They had not given due regard to the honor of Christ, nor had they honored or edified one another in the celebration of the Lord’s Supper.[4]

17. But in giving these instructions I do not praise you, because when you come together it is not for the better but for the worse.

  • “But in giving these instructions I do not praise you.” Paul begins with the adversative but to separate this verse from the preceding discourse. Is the break with the previous verses complete or partial? The answer depends on the interpretation of the term these instructions. This term might look forward to what Paul is going to say about the conduct of the Corinthians when they celebrate the Lord’s Supper. Then the break is complete. Or the term looks back, so that these instructions relate to what Paul had been saying earlier. Accordingly, the break is partial.

The fact that the Greek text has the pronoun this in the singular, not the plural (which most translations show), gives it a general connotation. Some scholars aver that this pronoun normally refers not to succeeding but to preceding material (compare 7:6). They understand the pronoun to refer to Paul’s instructions on the proper conduct of men and women in public worship services. They add that Paul’s instructions for the correct observance of the Lord’s Supper (vv. 28–34) are far removed from the current passage. They, therefore, opt for a partial break in the context.

Considerations for a complete break predominate, however. First, the content of the passage itself reveals that Paul introduces a new subject: the Lord’s Supper. Paul places the verb I praise in the negative to contrast his positive statement at the beginning of the chapter (v. 2) and to repeat the negative in verse 22. In verse 2, he praised the Corinthians for guarding the traditions; here he censures them for unruly conduct which he must correct with pertinent instructions. Paul writes two distinct sections (vv. 2–16 and 17–34), which he begins with praise and censure respectively. And the second half of this verse (v. 17) is a causal clause that refers to the Corinthians’ meetings which, as the rest of the chapter shows, were unruly. In short, the forward look is preferred.

  • “Because when you come together it is not for the better but for the worse.” In these few words, Paul compresses what he has heard concerning his readers’ unseemly behavior. He has become aware of the disorder by which the church is despised and the poor are humiliated (v. 22). Furthermore, the unworthy manner in which the Lord’s Supper is celebrated is a sin against the body and blood of the Lord (v. 27). Christians failed to observe basic rules of courteous conduct. Paul mentions two extreme examples: some people remain hungry while others become drunk (v. 21). He had to rebuke the Corinthians by saying that their meetings did more harm than good.[5]

April 3 The Cross: Relevant to Every Age

This Man, after He had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God.

The cross of Christ appears unimportant to many cultures today mainly because of the time of its occurrence: “How could the death of a Jewish carpenter on a Roman cross two thousand years ago affect my life today?” This reasoning confuses the significance of the Cross.

When Christ died is not the central issue. In God’s timing He was crucified about a.d. 30, but He could have died in 100 b.c. or in 1943—had the Father so purposed. How Christ died is not the essential meaning either. He died on a cross, but had God desired, His Son could have died another way.

The timeless meaning of the Cross is that Christ, the Son of God, died there. Only God Himself was qualified to be our substitute on Calvary. It was who was executed that is significant. God in the flesh, Jesus the Messiah, was the single, sinless sacrifice who could bear our sins.

The death and resurrection of God’s only Son made fellowship with the Father possible again. Jesus did not have to suffer, but He had to die, for death was the penalty for sin. The Cross is relevant for every man, woman, and child in every age because there the eternal God died on our behalf so that we might receive His gift of everlasting life.

You were the sinless sacrifice, Lord. You died in my place. Thank You. Through Your death and resurrection, I can have fellowship with the Father.[1]
