May 2 Why Pray?

Scripture Reading: Matthew 6:9–13

Key Verse: Luke 6:12

Now it came to pass in those days that He went out to the mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God.

Have you ever felt like asking God why you should pray? Your world seems to be hanging by a thread. Emotionally, you feel empty. The future looks dim, and just when you think it cannot get any worse, it does. How could prayer help your situation? It is in prayer that we find hope and a solution for every problem we face:

  • Prayer readjusts the focus of our hearts and minds. In times of crisis, it is easy to focus on the darkness of the prevailing situation. Prayer causes us to look to a source of help that will never fail us. When we focus our minds on Christ and His ability, our hearts will cease to be anxious. Peace will reign.
  • Prayer gives us an opportunity to witness God’s involvement in our lives. His greatest desire is to build a personal relationship with each one of us. As we worship Him through prayer, He draws near to us and offers us His assurance and acceptance.
  • Prayer helps us understand the love of God. Prayer is our direct line of communication to God. True prayer begins with confession of any sin, and repentance.

There may be times when you wonder, Why pray? My world is crumbling all around me. This is the time when you need to pray the most. Prayer is your greatest avenue of hope, because it leads you straight into the throne room of God.

Lord, I thank You that prayer leads me straight to Your throne room. I have total access in time of need.[1]

May 2 When the Odds Are Against You

Scripture Reading: 2 Chronicles 20:5–12

Key Verse: 2 Chronicles 20:12

O our God, will You not judge them? For we have no power against this great multitude that is coming against us; nor do we know what to do, but our eyes are upon You.

The odds were certainly against Jehoshaphat and his men.

Surrounding them were the hordes of three armies—vastly outnumbering the Israelites. Jehoshaphat’s response provides all of us whose backs are against the proverbial wall with a godly game plan:

First, Jehoshaphat acknowledged God’s unequaled power: “Power and might are in Thy hand so that no one can stand against Thee” (2 Chron. 20:6 nasb). Whatever your circumstances, God is greater. His power is sufficient. His grace is adequate. His mercy is abundant.

Second, Jehoshaphat admitted his helplessness: “We are powerless before this great multitude who are coming against us” (2 Chron. 20:12 nasb). Your strength is limited. God’s might is unsurpassed.

Third, Jehoshaphat focused on God’s presence: “Our eyes are on Thee” (2 Chron. 20:12 nasb). Don’t dwell on your problem. Concentrate on God’s active presence and participation in the midst of your difficulty.

The battle is His to win as you daily trust Him. He will fight for you if you let Him. He has yet to lose.

Heavenly Father, power and might are in Your hand. No one can stand against You. I am powerless in the face of my circumstances, but my eyes are on You.[1]

Progressive Christianity (and How to Spot It) – Mama Bear Apologetics

by Lindsey Medenwaldt

Up until about a year and a half ago, I couldn’t have told you what a progressive church looked like. If you had asked me, I maybe would have told you that it was a liberal church, but that would have been about the extent of it. And then, I heard former ZOEgirl member, Alisa Childers, speak at the Women in Apologetics conference. As she gave her testimony, I shifted uncomfortably in my seat because I had no idea what she was talking about. Here I was, someone pretty familiar with world religion, and I couldn’t spot progressive Christianity in a line-up. That moment when I realized that I couldn’t spot Progressive Christianity in a world religions line-up…

Alisa explained in her lecture that part of the reason people can’t easily spot it is because progressive Christianity is sneaky. She and her husband were attending a church, and she found out that her pastor, whom she respected, called himself a “hopeful agnostic.” Before that, she didn’t see any warning signs. Her faith was challenged in that moment, and the situation eventually led her to apologetics because she wanted to know how to defend what she believed. You can listen to her story here.

Many of you may know Alisa’s story (she is a Mama Bear, after all), and if you do, then you already know that she’s the go-to woman for all things progressive Christianity. She’s an expert, and because of that, I am going to defer to a lot of her work in this article. I want to give you some basic information about how to spot a progressive church because I want you to be prepared to identify progressive ideas in case they exist in your own church.

So, just what is progressive Christianity?

Essentially, it is uber-liberal Christianity. By progressive, we don’t mean politicallyprogressive, though the two views often go hand-in-hand. Progressive Christianity doesn’t necessarily view the Bible as God’s Word and bases their theology on 1) personal conscience or experience and 2) cultural norms. But they still like to use a lot of the same words like inspired, so, well-meaning Christians like you and me are easily sucked into the progressive abyss. It’s a combination of agnostic beliefs with all the warm fuzzies of Christian-ish traditions, and far too many naive Christians are falling prey to it. What do you call a combination of agnostic beliefs with all the warm fuzzies of Christian-ish traditions? Progressive Christianity.

Let me ask you a question. Have you ever read anything by Rachel Held Evans or Rob Bell? If so, you’ve dipped your toes into the world of progressive Christianity. This doesn’t mean you are a progressive Christian, but you do need to know how to spot the inconsistencies with Scripture so you can be on guard next time you read something released as popular “Christian” non-fiction or self-help. (For a good example, check out Alisa’s article about the popular book, Girl, Wash Your Face by Rachel Hollis here.)

Way back in my first article in this series, I talked about how FBI agents spot fake money by studying real money. A person who knows the “real thing” can spot a fake instantly. (That’s why we started out this world religions series with a crash course in Christian theology! We wanted you to know the real thing before we started diving into other world religions.)

When it comes to knowing true Christianity, you need to start with your Bible. Get a reliable translation of Scripture, and study it. This is the best way to arm yourself against falsehood presented as truth.

On her website, Alisa outlines the top five ways to spot progressive Christianity. I’ve combined that list with her list of similarities between the New Age Movement and progressive Christianity and came up with the following things to look out for in your church

1. Redefining sin.

Hillary talked about this in her latest blogabout the “messy” church. Friends, we are sinners. That’s not us simply spilling our coffee on our shoes or having trash on the floors of our minivans. Our sin has eternal consequences (Romans 6:23), and we need to be able to confess that and realize we’ve all fallen short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). Thankfully, by God’s grace we are saved (Ephesians 2:8-9). He didn’t just give us a new pair of shoes or a detailing service for our vans. He died so that we may live (2 Corinthians 5:15).

In progressive churches, you’ll see a move away from using the word sin, or even calling sinful behaviors sinful. In a flurry of misguided compassion, the progressive Christian church has rightfully identified that the concept of sin has, in the past, been used to brow-beat people by screaming hellfire and brimstone preachers. However, instead of correcting this weaponization of sin, these churches choose to instead focus on the goodness of humanity. This is not a Biblical approach to sin and does much more harm than good because, as Hillary said in her “messy” church article, if we don’t understand why we need salvation, the good news of salvation becomes a moot point.

2. Devaluing truth statements.

If you ever visit a progressive Christian church or read progressive Christian literature, you’ll notice a theme: questions are more important than answers. While they don’t come right out and say that absolute truth doesn’t exist, why should we be totally content to simply ask questions? (I mean…isn’t the purpose of questions to find answers?) Have you ever heard someone say, “Your truth is yours, my truth is mine, and either truth is okay”? How can that statement be true?  It can’t be because that would violate the law of non-contradiction (a fallacy to add to your apologetics handbook)! Simply put, the law of non-contradiction says that A cannot equal non-A. Progressives reject putting Christianity in any sort of exclusive box or rigid dogma. One of the problems with this is that we can’t deny absolute truth because absolute truth does exist. Scripture is our compass, and once we start to sway away from what’s in the Bible, we start to accept non-truths. Don’t fall into this trap! Dear church, truth should never have a possessive pronoun in front of it.

3. Jesus didn’t die for our sins. He was killed because He was a threat to the current power structures.

A couple of years ago, Hillary and Rebekah responded to an article by Unfundamentalist Parenting called “The Trouble with Easter.” (You can listen to the Mama Bear podcast about it here.) In the article, the author says she doesn’t want to teach her children that Jesus died for their sins or that Jesus died to save them from God’s judgment. She also says “Jesus died publicly and grotesquely because he was a political and religious threat to those in power.” The truth, though, is that Scripture says that Jesus died to rescue us from our sins to reconcile us with the Father (see 1 John 2:2, 1 Corinthians 15, and Hebrews 2:14).

The author of the article, who says she is a youth pastor at a progressive church, seems more concerned that topics like the atonement are too confusing or troublesome for children to learn about. Instead, she recommends that Christian parents focus on Christ’s character, emphasizing to their kids that each person is responsible for their own actions. As I’m sure you’ve already realized, the problem here is that while it is good to teach about Christ’s character, leaving out Christ’s death and resurrection defeats the purpose of the atonement entirely. Where is our hope?! Who is Christ without His death and resurrection atoning for our sins? Somebody worth admiring maybe, but not someone worth worshiping.

Speaking of the atonement, some progressive Christians reject Christ’s blood atonement for our sin, and some even go so far to call it cosmic child abuse.1 Mama Bears, Christ died on the cross for you, for me, for all of humankind. Don’t let progressive Christianity fool you into thinking that God wouldn’t do this for you. He would, and He did. He also rose again on the third day. He did that, for you.

4. Redefining terms (aka “Linguistic Theft”)

This kind of goes along with #1 on sin, but it can be even more subtle than changes in doctrine. A common word progressives misuse frequently is love. Instead of love being defined like it is in 1 Corinthians 13, it is watered down to some namby-pamby concept of comfort. Making someone feel uncomfortable is unloving. Now, we’re all for not creating unnecessarily awkward moments, but Christianity inherently makes people uncomfortable. Nobody likes having their sin pointed out, and living in community is often… well… uncomfortable. We can’t use others’ level of comfort as the barometer for how well we are loving. We can’t use others’ level of comfort as the barometer for how well we are loving.

Other words progressive Christians misuse include biblical, gospel, and justice. One thing I’ve stressed in some of my other articles about religion is that you need to ask the other person what they mean when they say certain things. You’ve got to do this with progressive Christianity especially. Do not simply assume that you define words in the same way. Ask them what they mean by the words they say. (To learn more about the concept of linguistic theft, we have a whole chapter dedicated to this in the upcoming Mama Bear Apologetics book.)

5. The Bible is just a human book.

Rob Bell once called the Bible a “profoundly human book.”2 Many progressives will say things like “Although there’s wisdom to be found in the Bible, it was written by men. These men were writing what they believed about God, and they didn’t necessarily get everything right.” The problem with this perspective is that it gives progressives like Rob Bell the freedom to disagree with the Bible’s contents, keeping what they like and throwing the rest out with no remorse. If the Bible was merely written by fallible men, fumbling in the dark, cobbling together a book with the best information they had at the time, why trust it at all?

Did you spot anything in our list that you’ve seen in your own church? I hope not, but if you have, you should talk with your pastor to see where they stand on these issues. Be sure that you attend a Bible-believing church that stays true to Scripture and doesn’t muddy the waters with bad theology.

Chelsea Clinton Making Millions By Hardly Working, New Report Says — The Gateway Pundit

Chelsea Clinton once made $600,000 a year to produce a few “feel-good pieces” for NBC News — where she was a “special correspondent.” Somehow, the 39-year-old has amassed a huge fortune and now lives in a $10 million “luxury fortress” in Manhattan.

So the Daily Mail decided to take a look at the former first daughter’s income, and what they found was fascinating.

Chelsea Clinton, 39, took home just over $600,000 last year for her work as director on the boards of IAC and Expedia, according to records obtained by DailyMail.com.

The IAC board met just six times in 2018, while some members of the Expedia board were only obligated to attend two meetings last year.

Those two companies are both headed up by the family’s good friend Barry Diller, the billionaire businessman and longtime partner of designer Diane von Furstenberg, who is often spotted attending Broadway shows with Chelsea and her parents.

IAC is an American holding company that owns more 150 brands across 100 countries, mostly in media and internet and is headquartered in New York City. Expedia is an international travel website.

“These latest compensation packages also reveal that Chelsea will soon own just over $400,000 of Expedia stock and shares in IAC that add up to an astonishing $6.3 million, based on those companies trading prices when the market opened Friday,” the Mail writes.

Serving on boards is the way to quick cash. There’s very little work involved — often, the company just wants a big name on its roster (think former vice president Al Gore and all the boards he sits on). It’s hard to imagine what Expedia or IAC think Clinton’s expertise is, but hey, they can pay whomever they want, this is America.

Still, it’s hilarious that Chelsea is the daughter of Bill and Hillary Clinton, who both spent their political careers railing against the “1 Percent,” the wealthiest in America. What’s more, they claimed to want to force big companies to pay their fair share, but in the end they did little follow through on their pledges. Now, their daughter is a member of the former by working in the latter. The irony is delicious.

Chelsea also serves as vice chair of the Clinton Foundation, a massive non-profit set up by her parents that has been the subject of several federal probes. There, according to her Expedia biography, “her work emphasizes improving global and domestic health, creating service opportunities and empowering the next generation of leaders,” whatever that means.

And Chelsea lives like a modern-day queen, the Mail reported in 2013.

Chelsea Clinton’s new $10 million pad is New York’s longest apartment – stretching an entire block from 26th Street to 27th Street off Madison Avenue.

Described as ‘a luxury fortress‘ with one full-time doorman to the horizontal building’s four units, it takes almost 30 seconds to walk the 250-foot hallway, according to New York Daily News.

The former First Daughter, 33, bought the four-bedroom, 5,000-square-foot apartment with her husband Marc Mezvinsky, 35, after putting their nearby $4million pad on the market earlier this year.

Chelsea’s net worth is estimated at $15 million.

Nice work if you can get it.

May 2 Close to the Father’s Heart

Scripture reading: John 17:1–8

Key verse: Psalm 145:18

The Lord is near to all who call upon Him,

To all who call upon Him in truth.

The believer who lives close to the Father’s heart is free to express his feelings to Him. You do not have to be uptight with God. He knew every detail of your life the moment He created you. When you were saved, the Lord Jesus Christ understood all of your past failures and hang-ups and your future struggles.

Because you are now His child for all eternity, you can be completely honest with Him. You can pour out your hurts, your anger, your disappointments, your secrets, and your dreams to the Lord. He will never reject you (Heb. 13:5). You can never turn away His steadfast love.

There will be times when you do not understand what God is up to in your life. God’s presence may seem distant. Because you have God’s assurance of His presence and because of His unceasing activity on your behalf, you can still cling to Him and worship Him in the knowledge of His love for you. Refuse the advances of competing lovers—money, fame, power—and deny doubt and unbelief.

Have you the kind of intimacy with God so that the Father is your most adored Friend? Does your unswerving allegiance belong to Him? If not, confess your need for such a relationship, let Him gather you into His waiting arms, and worship Him.

Father, let me learn to worship You even when Your presence seems distant. Help me deny doubt and unbelief and refuse the advances of money, fame, and power.[1]

A COMMON WORD: In 2019, As Chrislam Continues To Grow At Lightning Speed, Let’s Check In With The Major End Times Players And See What’s New — Now The End Begins

Apostate Christianity, represented by mega-church pirates Rick Warren and Brian Houston and others, are preaching that Muslims and Christians ‘serve the same God’, and since we do, we should join forces. Welcome to Chrislam 2019.

From time to time, articles we have done in the past will be rediscovered by people and wind up getting shared with tens of thousands of people all over again. Such is the case with one of the first Chrislam articles we ever did back in 2012. Over the past 2 days, the number of shares on social media have exploded, going well past the 100,000 mark! That article is called Chrislam Founder Rick Warren Partnering With Mosques To Teach Muslims That God Of The Bible And Allah Are The Same, and it’s making people mad all over again.

“Now we, brethren, as Isaac was, are the children of promise. But as then he that was born after the flesh persecuted him that was born after the Spirit, even so it is now. Nevertheless what saith the scripture? Cast out the bondwoman and her son: for the son of the bondwoman shall not be heir with the son of the freewoman. So then, brethren, we are not children of the bondwoman, but of the free.” Galatians 4:28-31 (KJV)

When we first showed you how false teacher Rick Warren was creating an end times hybrid that we called ‘chrislam’, quite a number of his followers wrote in to defend him. They called us “liars” and said that we were ‘attacking God’s anointed’. But after they read some of his quotes about Muslims and Christians ‘serving the same God’, and leading prayer to ask forgiveness from Allah, even his loyal followers began to ‘get the picture.

Here is that quote with a link to Warren’s A Common Word site where the entire letter is posted:

“Before we “shake your hand” in responding to your letter, we ask forgiveness of the All-Merciful One and of the Muslim community around the world.” – Rick Warren, one of the main signers of the Yale Covenant For Islam and Christian Unity

The things we post may make you mad if you are a follower of an end times apostate, but I promise you this. What you read here on this site has been throughly researched, and to the very best of our knowledge is 100% true. We have never knowingly published a falsehood, and never will. So since people are once again showing interest in Chrislam and Rick Warren, I thought it might be edifying to see what Rick has been up to, and what other people are now also promoting this false teaching that Islam and Christianity can somehow ‘unite for the common good’.

Let’s start by defining exactly what Chrislam is.

So What Exactly Is Chrislam?

Chrislam is a term that has been coined to denote the joining together of Christianity, CHRI, and the Muslim religion of Islam, SLAM, forming the new word ‘chrislam’. The bible says in the end times the the professing Christian church will fall away and give heed to ‘doctrines of devils’, and that is exactly what we are seeing in the rise of Chrislam.

“Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.” 1 Timothy 4:1 (KJV)

The Catholic Church, though not a Christian organization, nevertheless plays a huge role because they must yet grow up into becoming Mystery, Babylon, the harlot of Revelation 17 and 18 that will come to pass in the time of Jacob’s trouble after the Pretrib Rapture of the actual Church. Catholics are not Christians, but since they claim to be, it is no surprise to see them deeply involved with creating Chrislam. Don’t forget, Pope Francis is the man who back in 2017 warned you that a ‘personal relationship’ with Jesus Christ is ‘dangerous and harmful‘. You can read all about the Catholic Church in the end times here.

Who Are The Major Players In The Chrislam Movement?

As far as our research shows, Chrislam was first promoted in the early days of the 21st century at a global level by Saddleback Church pastor Rick Warren. Warren gave an explosive speech at the 2009 ISNA, the Islamic Society of North America, meeting where he shocked the Christian world by claiming that Christians and Muslims ‘serve the same God’ while calling for a Muslim and Christian ‘interfaith coalition’ to ‘change the world’. And no, we are not asking you to take it on faith that he said that. Here is the only surviving copy of that event, watch it for yourself and hear the words that come out of  Rick Warren’s mouth as he promotes Chrislam.

The Speech That Started Chrislam: Rick Warren At ISNA 2009

Speaking to a crowd of nearly 8,000 Muslims at the Islamic Society of North America’s annual convention in Washington D.C., Saddleback Church Pastor Rick Warren called on Muslims and Christians to form an interfaith coalition to combat prejudice and stereotypes.

But the groundwork for Warren’s promotion of Chrislam had already been started 2 years earlier when he formed a coalition of ‘138 leading Muslim scholars, clerics, Christians, and intellectuals from around the world’ to create ‘A Common Word Between Us and You‘. In it, Warren makes the case that the Bible and the Qu’ran both teach about the ‘same God’, so Christians and Muslims should “find a way‘ to get along. The only problem with that is the Bible shows us the actual God who created everything, and the Qu’ran shows us the demonic counterfeit named Allah, who has nothing in common with the God of the Bible. So everything that Warren puts forth is based on a lie. Chrislam is based on a lie.

A pastor or preacher who believes the Bible will preach against Islam, and expose Allah for the fraud that he is. Islam is not even a religion, it is an ideological system of conquest developed by a man named Mohammed who had sex with 9 year old girls.

“Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son. Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father: (but) he that acknowledgeth the Son hath the Father also.” 1 John 2:21,22 (KJV)

Not only that, Islam teaches that ‘Allah had no son‘, and that Jesus Christ was not very God! So how on earth can you have a ‘coalition for good’ between Christianity and Islam when Islam seeks to destroy the very foundation that the Christian faith is based on? Well, you need a serpent mouthed false teacher with the slithery tongue of a good used car salesman to put that one ‘over the plate’. In Rick Warren, apostate Christianity has found such a man. The apostle John says that whoever denies that Jesus is the Son of God is antichrist! Guess what? Islam denies that Jesus is the Son of God, so what does that make them? Moving on.

Rick Warren Joins Force With Pope Francis

OK, so even if your conscience is so seared that you really don’t care about Rick Warren and Chrislam, or his ‘purpose driven plan‘ to destroy the Church, or his ‘storehouse tithing‘ heresy, or even that fact that he is/was a member of the CFR, maybe you will care about this.

After planting the seeds for apostate Christianity to join with the Islamic forces of Antichrist, Rick Warren then decided that he needed to not only join forces with the Roman pope, but to begin to get his followers thinking of Jorge Mario Bergoglio as their pope as well. Speaking in an interview on the Catholic propaganda arm EWTN, Warren speakings warmly and lovingly about the Catholic king, going so far as to call him ‘our pope’. Wha the…???!!?? But that’s what he did, see it for yourself.

Rick Warren Calls Apostate Roman Catholic Pope Francis “Our Pope”

Rick Warren is seen slyly referring to Pope Francis as “our pope”, and then going on to brag about what a great job he is doing. He wants you to blithely assume that of course Pope Francis is the “spiritual head” over all of Christianity and not simply over the Roman Catholic corporation. He slips it in like that’s what everyone already thinks and believes. This is nothing more than mental conditioning. A bible believing Christian under no circumstances ever would acknowledge that any pope in the Roman system had any sort of rule over them of any kind. But this is what Warren wants his millions of followers to believe. Why? Stay with me, we’re almost there.

Pope Francis Joins Forces With Islam

Is the classic cartoon ‘light bulb’ appearing over your head now as you read this, denoting you just had a light-producing revelation? Well, it should. Pope Francis, having received the end times baton passed to him by apostate Rick Warren, takes Warren’s work with Chrislam and now begins to connect it to the Roman Catholic Church. Here is a brief listing of how Pope Francis is working to merge apostate and counterfeit Christianity with Islam:

This is only a brief smattering of all the stories we have in our archives on how Pope Francis is wooing Islam to join forces with the Roman harlot. There are hundreds more, just type the words ‘pope francis’ into our search bar at the top right of every page, and see for yourself. But wait, there’s more!

Hillsong United Leader Brian Houston Now Promoting Chrislam

“They do blaspheme who say: Allah is one of three in a Trinity: for there is no god except One Allah. If they desist not from their word of blasphemy, verily a grievous penalty will befall the blasphemers among them.” Qu’ran 5:73

So you are a follower of Hillsong Church, are you? Like to purchase all their Grammy award-winning “christian” music to ‘support their ministry’, is it? Well, then you might want to know that the founder of Hillsong United, Brian Houston, believes and preaches that Christians and Muslims ‘serve the same God’. Oh heresy, thy name is Chrislam.

Now of course, after getting caught, Houston went on to say that his remarks were ‘taken out of context‘, and that he doesn’t preach Chrislam. Houston has also famously said that his NYC church didn’t have an openly-gay choir director, but they sure did. He denied it when he got caught with that as well. Now, would you really be surprised if I told you that Hillsong Church in Phoenix brought in a Catholic priest so the Hillsong worshippers could enjoy an afternoon of Baal worship with a Roman Catholic mass? Yep, they did that as well.

“Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;” 2 Thessalonians 2:3 (KJV)

As we conclude this 2019 Chrislam update, are you starting to see the ‘big picture’ yet? Because it is crystal-clear to me. Fulfilling biblical prophecy of the great end times falling away, apostate Christianity, represented by mega-church pirates Rick Warren and Brian Houston and others, are preaching that Muslims and Christians ‘serve the same God’, and since we do, we should join forces. Having sealed that deal with their followers, the natural, next step is to bring everyone to the childless “holy father” in Rome, and put everything under one roof including the LGBTQ+P for pedophile Movement.

Biblical Christianity and classic Islam are enemies, and will remain that way until the Second Coming Of Jesus Christ. There is no ‘common ground’, ‘common word’, or ‘coalition of good’ between the two. Except, of course, if you’re an apostate false teacher who has a role to play in the gathering end times.

National Day of Prayer: Trump Unveils Faith-Based ‘Protections of Conscience’ for Physicians — Faithwire

President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence hosted a Rose Garden ceremony for the National Day of Prayer Thursday morning, and the president spoke about the power of prayer while also announcing practical steps to protect religious freedom.

“Our Nation’s honored tradition of prayer has sustained us and strengthened our trust that God will continue to watch over and accompany us through the best of times and the darkest hours. May we as Americans never forget the power of prayer and the greatness of our Creator,” Trump declared in his day of prayer proclamation.

The president made news by announcing new conscience protections for religious health care providers.

“Just today we finalized new protections of conscience rights for physicians, pharmacists, nurses, teachers, students and faith-based charities,” Trump said. Watch that announcement BELOW:

“Every citizen has the absolute right to live according to the teachings of their faith and the convictions of their heart. This is the bedrock of American life. To protect this heritage my Administration has strongly defended religious liberty,” he said.

And he cited other important faith-based actions he’s taken, like working to liberate preachers from the IRS threats they’ve faced because of the Johnson Amendment, which bans faith leaders from talking about politics.

He further explained his support for religious freedom in his proclamation, saying, “Our Nation acknowledges that religious liberty is a natural right, given to us by our Creator, not a courtesy that government extends to us. The First Amendment recognizes the freedom of religion and safeguards this right against government infringement.”

The president went on to cite the success of prison reform efforts, and then turned to real-life example of the power of faith helping fight the drug crisis in America. He called up a recovering opioid addict named Ashley Evans, who briefly shared how faith has restored her life.

“Finding God saved my life,” Ashley said. “God has been with me every step of the way and everything has worked out.”

She said it’s only “by the grace of God” that she’s now free. And it’s also been through the help a behavioral health worker named Angie Dennis whom Trump called up to the podium as well.

Angie explained she helped Ashley by sharing with her, “It’s a relationship with Jesus, it’s not religion or a bunch of rules.”

As he thanked them for sharing their story, Trump declared, “Prayer works miracles and prayer saves lives.”

The president went on to cite the verse from Isaiah 40:31, that those who wait on the Lord will “run and not grow weary, walk and not grow faint.” He said that’s how he and Vice President Pence have survived two tough years so far in the White House.

“Today we pray for America,” Pence said in some prepared remarks. “And as we pray, let’s pray with confidence, as was inscribed in those ancient words millennia ago, that if His people, who are called by His name will humble themselves and pray, that He’ll do like He’s always done through the long and storied history of this nation: He’ll hear from Heaven and He’ll heal this land, this one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”

In closing, President Trump said, “We once again place our hopes in the hands of our Creator.”

Later, Pastor Paula White prayed the closing prayer, speaking God’s word over President Trump, citing Psalm 139:16 that God has ordained every one of his days. She also declared the White House to be holy ground and launched into spiritual warfare, asking God to watch over the president and his family.
