June 16 The Faithfulness of God

Scripture Reading: Lamentations 3:19–26

Key Verses: Lamentations 3:22–23

Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.

The first verse of the hymn “Great Is Thy Faithfulness,” by Thomas Chisholm, speaks to God’s faithfulness:

Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father!

There is no shadow of turning with Thee;

Thou changest not, Thy compassions, they fail not:

As Thou hast been Thou forever wilt be.

These famous words summarize a foundational truth: God is faithful, and He does not change (Hebrews 13:8). Theologians call this God’s “immutability.” Have you ever thought about why it is so important to understand this aspect of God’s character? God’s unchanging nature is the basis for everything we believe about Him.

If God could change on a whim, then every promise He made in Scripture would be invalidated. He would be untrustworthy. He loved you unconditionally yesterday, but what about tomorrow when you really blow it? That is why God emphasizes His absolute, uncompromising faithfulness throughout His Word. We need that assurance in order to know Him as God and to place our faith in Him.

In 1 Corinthians 1:9 we read, “God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.” Your salvation is guaranteed, because He sealed your redemption at the Cross. Let your heart rejoice and say, “Great is Thy faithfulness!”

Father, Son, Holy Spirit—triune God—You have ever been the same, unchanging. Thank You for Your faithfulness. I offer You my heart to mirror that faithfulness.[1]

June 16 Conquering in Christ

Scripture Reading: Psalm 77

Key Verse: Isaiah 43:2

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, nor shall the flame scorch you.

The greatest truth the believer can cling to in time of need is that no problem, regardless of intensity or nature, can hinder the free, full flow of God’s love toward himself.

The love of God is not just sentiment. It is not just a warm feeling or a sweet Christian saying. The love of God means that He is working to accomplish His purposes in your life in every stressful situation.

There is nothing random about your problem. It is not merely the result of fleeting earthly forces at work. Before you were born, before the universe was conceived, God knew about and figured your particular trouble into His master scheme.

You may not be able to understand what is happening or why this problem has arisen. But you do know the God who has the answers and the power to bring you through.

Each time of testing is an occasion to see God work and trust Him for the results. It is an opportunity to grow in dependence on Him and discover His greatness for yourself.

You are a conqueror in Christ in every situation because the Conqueror, Jesus Christ, is in control of you and your circumstances. Nothing or no one can outwit Him or overcome Him.

O Lord, You knew me before I was born. You figured all my problems into Your master scheme. I may not understand everything, but You do. You have the answers and the power to bring me through each difficulty. I am more than a conqueror through You.[1]

President Trump on DOJ/FBI in 2016: “It was a set-up” … “I would say that President Obama had to know about it”… — The Last Refuge

President Donald Trump granted a three-day exclusive and extensive interview to ABC News ¹propagandist, and narrative engineer, George Stephanopoulos.

[¹You might remember Stephanopoulos was actually deployed by the DNC in 2012 to ask GOP primary candidates in an ABC debate about the constitutionality of requiring insurance companies to pay for birth control pills. A totally out of left-field goofy question that no-one understood until two-days later when the DNC trotted out Sandra Fluke]

Well, here’s Stephanopoulos again, somehow granted access (likely by a person inside the White House coordinating with Nancy Pelosi). The final broadcast will be heavily edited, manipulated and presented for distribution and maximum political damage; with the intent to assist Nancy Pelosi and the impeachment narrative at 8:00pm this evening.

In an effort to gain maximum publicity ABC has released some preview segments to stimulate interest by a national audience.

.

[Transcript at 10:38President Trump: “It’s very simple; very simple.  There was no crime. There was no collusion. The big thing is collusion. Now, there’s no collusion. That means they set — it was a setup. In my opinion, and I think it’s going to come out.”

Stephanopoulos: “Who set it up?”

President Trump:  “We’re going to find out very soon, because I really believe it’s going to come out.  When you look at Strzok, these FBI guys that were low-lifes. When you look at – because the FBI’s the greatest- but these top people were absolute low-lifes. When you look at Strzok and Page, and they’re talking about an insurance policy ‘just in case she loses’, that was the insurance policy.”

Stephanopoulos: “You know I’ve heard you talk about”…

President Trump: “George, I went through the insurance policy.”

Stephanopoulos: “I understand that, but if they were determined to prevent you from becoming president, why wouldn’t they leak it before hand?”

President Trump: “You’d have to ask them.”…

Stephanopoulos: “Have it come out before the election”..

President Trump: “Oh, they tried.  They tried – and you know what, had that gone out before the election, I don’t think I could have – I don’t think I would have hand enough time – to defend myself.”

Stephanopoulos: “You clearly believe there was a group of people working against you. Do you think President Obama was behind it?”

President Trump: “I would say that he certainly must have known about it because it went very high up in the chain. But you’re going to find that out. I’m not going to make that statement quite yet. But I would say that President Obama had to know about it.”

.

Reminder:

George Stephanopoulos always operates with an agenda.  Most have forgotten a Jan ’12 New Hampshire debate when Stephanopoulos asked Mitt Romney a very carefully worded and scripted question, seeming to come out of left field, about whether states have the right to ban contraception. Exactly two weeks later Sandra Fluke and the DNC 2012 campaign attack narrative “Romney’s War On Women” began.  WATCH:

.

The 2019 version of Stephanopoulos has all the same characteristics, purposes and intents as the 2012 version of Stephanopoulos.

In 2012 he set up: “war on women”.  In 2019 he is setting up: “Trump impeachment”.

How the White House did not know that George Stephanopoulos would be used to position the Pelosi impeachment narrative is beyond my ability to comprehend.

June 16 Rebuke and Restoration

Scripture reading: Psalm 51:1–19

Key verse: Job 4:8

Even as I have seen,

Those who plow iniquity

And sow trouble reap the same.

Can you get away with sin?

Sin is disobedience. Disobedience is a violation of God’s Word and ways. Violating His commands places you in confrontation with God’s character, which is the foundation for all His decrees.

Thus, when you sin, small or large, you sin against God Himself—holy, perfect, and just. In His righteousness, He is compelled to deal with your iniquity. Ignoring your sin would be tantamount to changing God’s immutable character and attributes, which He has declared cannot happen.

You can always depend on God to remain the same. When you obey Him, you can expect His blessings. Similarly, when you disobey Him you can anticipate His correction. God’s unvarying character is your cornerstone and compass. His chastisement for sin is certain and sure, but always given with loving discipline.

Your parents might have condoned certain actions when you were a child. In reality, they were not doing you a favor. God does not overlook any sin. His holiness is your foundation for Christian growth. His rebuke and restoration keep you on His course, protecting you from even greater disaster.

Dear Lord, thank You for rebuking my sin to keep me from greater disaster. I praise You for restoration through the blood of Jesus Christ.[1]

Fed Games

Clever markets. Many index charts have camped themselves inside tight key price zones ahead of the Fed meeting this coming week leaving potential for important breakouts or equally important breakdowns. The trigger to render the decision next week: The Fed of course.

Be very clear: What happens next week is a giant gaming exercise in expectations, confidence, control and reactions. But it won’t stop here for following next week’s Fed meeting markets will move straight onto gaming the upcoming G20 meeting at the end of June and its related potential for trade war progress or escalation. But the fun doesn’t stop there either as it’s then on to the next Fed meeting in July.

If you’re expecting a sleepy summer in markets let me disavow you of that notion. How these 3 events play will have a massive impact on prices, either to the upside or the downside.

But one event at a time.

This coming week markets will not only contend with the Fed, but also quad witch options expirations always a week for traders to expect the unexpected although OPEX weeks generally have an upward bias.

But make no mistake: This week’s about the Fed. In 2019 Jay Powell has bent over backwards to appease the market beast. First the stunning reversal in January following the December flush indicating flexibility on the balance sheet, then the March confirmation that QT will be ended in 2019 and then his speech following the steep May correction indicating readiness to act on rate cuts, all of which were cheerfully greeted by markets who want an interventionist Fed to extend the cheap money game that has dominated equity markets for the last 10 years.

But this move here is different. The Fed is on the defensive, not only having been forced to do a 180 on policy as the macro economic backdrop has deteriorated faster than they expected, but also because they have limited room to work with compared  to previous cycles. The implications are profound and I’ve discussed this in Global Fail and in Curveball.

And now that the Fed has shown itself again beholden to the beast they’ve been feeding for years it can ill afford to disappoint markets that expect, want and demand that the Fed pleases them with dovish action, talk and positioning:

The outcome may be binary here: A surprise rate cut or surprise immediate ending of QT may be dovish enough to force equity markets higher on to new highs or a market disappointment that may lead to a larger sell-off with grave uncertainty ahead of the upcoming G20 meeting. The calculus: Should the G20 disappoint then the Fed may again be seen being behind the curve rendering a July rate cut a desperate measure to catch up to volatile markets under pressure. Cut now, get the rally and be seen ahead of the curve, but then get a positive resolution on the G20 and appear to have wasted precious rate cut ammunition on a cut that was not needed and set markets on a path to a massive bubble blow-off perhaps creating larger financial market imbalances.

When in doubt count on the Fed to rather have a bubble then risk a sell-off?

One can game all this until the cows come home. Either way Jay Powell and the Fed will spend this week carefully weighing their options and crafting language to aim to minimize any market disappointment. It is all about confidence at the end of the day and the reaction may well be measured in how the US dollar reacts.

I’ll throw you another potential scenario: If the Fed cuts here it may well produce a quick spike higher, but it may not have the calming reaction the Fed would intend. Why? Because cutting here may ultimately send a very different signal. A signal that says the Fed is scared and knows recession risk is much higher than they are willing to admit. Don’t forget sudden rate cuts at the end of a cycle have seen recessions follow within 3 months on average during the last 3 cycles.

Even BAML, which is all bullish and is telling investors to jump into stocks and to sell volatility, has gamed wider price ranges as a result of the upcoming events:

There’s of course a 5th scenario that BAML is not mentioning here: One that says that a dovish Fed is not enough. One that says a global recession is unfolding into 2020 anyways, one that says central bank efficacy after 10 years of nonstop intervention is diminished. After all the current global economic troubles have come despite rates remaining near historic low levels, indeed negative rates are still in place in many places. Europe is in trouble despite negative rates and can only cut to more negative.

So while the Fed may manage to lift equity markets once again previous market cycle history suggests that initial Fed cuts are not a sign of good things to come, but rather are an opportunity to sell.

And so here we are coming into this Fed meeting and markets are at an interesting juncture, take the $WLSH the all market index:

The recent rally following Jay Powell’s “ready to act” speech has parked itself tightly between the January 2018 highs above and the 50MA just below.

An added twist: Many signal charts are neither overbought nor oversold, example $BPNDX:

…leaving plenty of room for both price expansion or contraction.

So then here’s a genius prediction: At the end of the next week we’ll either close below the 50MA or above the January 2018 price range in $WLSH.

If the Fed succeeds in appeasing the beast price will close above and may embark on another run at highs or make new highs. If the Fed fails the recent rally will fail and risk major topping structures to kick in.

Yes it’s that binary. Once again the central bank overlords will be the arbiter of price and many investors once again believe the Fed will succeed in keeping the troubles away.

Understanding the technical backdrop then is key to assess how to navigate the possible ranges.

Welcome to the Fed Games:

New Muslim threat: ‘Turn White House black’ | WND

Radical Islamists have for years publicly threatened the rest of the world, especially the West, with suicide attacks and worse. They promise Shariah law will be imposed and Islam will become the government.

Well, that’s all for the infidels they don’t kill.

The Christian Broadcasting Network even reported just days ago on a Muslim who fears his own faith’s extremists, and said, “If Christians don’t wake up, if Christian leaders don’t wake up, then we Muslims who fled from extremists can’t help you anymore. We tried warning you.”

Now the Middle East Media Research Institute, which monitors and reports on chatter in the media throughout the region, has found a new list of threats.

There’s now a plan to turn “the White House black.”

And start taxing Londoners.

And pray on the slopes of the Rockies.

The threats are from Palestinian Sheikh Abu Hanifa Awda, who addressed some people recently in the Al-Aqsa Mosque.

His threat list video later was uploaded to the internet.

He said, “Indeed, oh people of Jerusalem, this is the heartland. This is the land of the oath of allegiance. This is where the banners of the Caliphate will flutter. This is where the military convoys will gather, and this is where the brigades will assemble under their banners, heralding in a new dawn – dawn of justice – and the birth of a divine state: the Caliphate that will follow the guidance of the Prophethood.”

He went on: “Policies will be designed here. From here, armies will set out to conquer the world – the mighty army of Islam, with all its brigades.”

Then he listed the brigades he wants:

“One brigade will liberate Palestine. Another one will ‘ravage the homes’ [as is written in the Quran]. A third brigade will ‘destroy whatever would fall into their hands.’ A fourth brigade will take revenge against Bashar Al-Assad and Russia. A fifth brigade will liberate all the plundered Muslim countries. A sixth brigade will cross the oceans and put the enemy to shame. A seventh brigade will lay siege to Rome. An eighth brigade will turn the White House black. A ninth brigade will impose the jizya poll tax on London. A tenth brigade will pray to fend off fear and danger on the slopes of the Rocky Mountains and the Andes.”

Anti-Shariah campaigner Pamela Geller wrote online, “They tell us. We may choose to be deaf, but you can’t say they didn’t tell us their plans.”

MEMRI has posted the video online.

President Trump: Obama “Had to Know” About Spygate Scandal – Warns, “You’re Gonna Find That Out” (VIDEO) — The Gateway Pundit

President Trump told ABC’s George Stephanopoulos that Barack Obama must have known about the efforts to prevent him from winning the 2016 election.

“There was no crime. There was no collusion. The big thing’s collusion. Now, there’s no collusion,” Trump told Stephanopoulos in an interview that aired Sunday. “That means they set — it was a setup, in my opinion, and I think it’s gonna come out,” Trump said slamming FBI lovebirds Peter Strzok and Lisa Page over their “insurance policy.”

Stephanopoulos asked Trump if he thought Obama was involved in Spygate.

“You clearly believe that there was a group of people working against you. Do you think President Obama was behind it?” Stephanopoulos asked Trump.

“I would say that he certainly must have known about it because it went very high up in the chain but you’re gonna find that out. I’m not gonna make that statement quite yet, but I would say President Obama had to know about it.”

WATCH:

Of course Barack Obama knew about the Spygate scandal. Obama wanted his third term (Hillary Clinton) and didn’t want anyone to know about his 8 year crime spree in the White House.

Just weeks before Donald Trump’s inauguration in January of 2017, Barack Obama, Joe Biden, Susan Rice, James Comey, Clapper all met in the Oval Office and discussed the phony Steele dossier.

The very next day then-FBI Director James Comey traveled to Trump Tower New York to brief Trump on the salacious parts of the dossier and lied to Trump and told him he had nothing to worry about.

Trump is right. Barack Obama had to have known about the Spygate scandal.

The Difference Between RussiaGate and Watergate? Watergate Started With a Crime

If the impeachment hearings come, they will be seen for what they are: An attempted coup to overthrow a president by the losers of 2016 who are fearful they could lose again in 2020 and be out of power for four more years.

“History is repeating itself, and with a vengeance,” John Dean told the judiciary committee, drawing a parallel between Watergate, which brought down Richard Nixon, and “Russiagate” which has bedeviled Donald Trump.

Dr.Doom Exposes The Growing Risk Of A 2020 Recession And Global Crisis | ZeroHedge News

Authored by Nouriel Roubini via Project Syndicate,

Across the advanced economies, monetary and fiscal policymakers lack the tools needed to respond to another major downturn and financial crisis. Worse, while the world no longer needs to worry about a hawkish US Federal Reserve strangling growth, it now has an even bigger problem on its hands.

Last summer, my colleague Brunello Rosa and I identifiedten potential downside risks that could trigger a US and global recession in 2020. Nine of them are still in play today.

Many involve the United States. Trade wars with China and other countries, along with restrictions on migration, foreign direct investment, and technology transfers, could have profound implications for global supply chains, raising the threat of stagflation (slowing growth alongside rising inflation). And the risk of a US growth slowdown has become more acute now that the stimulus from the 2017 tax legislation has run its course.

Meanwhile, US equity markets have remained frothy since our initial commentary. And there are added risks associated with the rise of newer forms of debt, including in many emerging markets, where much borrowing is denominated in foreign currencies. With central banks’ ability to serve as lenders of last resort increasingly constrained, illiquid financial markets are vulnerable to “flash crashes” and other disruptions. One such disruption could come from US President Donald Trump, who may be tempted to create a foreign-policy crisis (“wag the dog”) with a country like Iran. That might bolster his domestic poll numbers, but it could also trigger an oil shock.

Beyond the US, the fragility of growth in debt-ridden China and some other emerging markets remains a concern, as do economic, policy, financial, and political risks in Europe. Worse, across the advanced economies, the policy toolbox for responding to a crisis remains limited. The monetary and fiscal interventions and private-sector backstops used after the 2008 financial crisis simply cannot be deployed to the same effect today.

The tenth factor that we considered was the US Federal Reserve’s interest-rate policy. After hiking rates in response to the Trump administration’s pro-cyclical fiscal stimulus, the Fed reversed course in January. Looking ahead, the Fed and other major central banks are more likely to cut rates to manage various shocks to the global economy.

While trade wars and potential oil spikes constitute a supply-side risk, they also threaten aggregate demand and thus consumption growth, because tariffs and higher fuel prices reduce disposable income. With so much uncertainty, companies will likely opt to reduce capital spending and investment.

Under these conditions, a severe enough shock could usher in a global recession, even if central banks respond rapidly. After all, in 2007-2009, the Fed and other central banks reacted aggressively to the shocks that triggered the global financial crisis, but they did not avert the “Great Recession.” Today, the Fed is starting with a benchmark policy rate of 2.25-2.5%, compared to 5.25% in September 2007. In Europe and Japan, central banks are already in negative-rate territory, and will face limits on how much further below the zero bound they can go. And with bloated balance sheets from successive rounds of quantitative easing (QE), central banks would face similar constraints if they were to return to large-scale asset purchases.

On the fiscal side, most advanced economies have even higher deficits and more public debt today than before the global financial crisis, leaving little room for stimulus spending. And, as Rosa and I argued last year, “financial-sector bailouts will be intolerable in countries with resurgent populist movements and near-insolvent governments.”

Among the risks that could trigger a recession in 2020, the Sino-American trade and technology war deserves special attention. The conflict could escalate further in several ways. The Trump administration could decide to extend tariffs to the $300 billion worth of Chinese exports not yet affected. Or prohibiting Huawei and other Chinese firms from using US components could trigger a full-scale process of de-globalization, as companies scramble to secure their supply chains. Were that to happen, China would have several options for retaliating against the US, such as by closing its market to US multinationals like Apple.

Under such a scenario, the shock to markets around the world would be sufficient to bring on a global crisis, regardless of what the major central banks do. With the current tensions already denting business, consumer, and investor confidence and slowing global growth, further escalation would tip the world into a recession. And, given the scale of private and public debt, another financial crisis would likely follow from that.

Both Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping know that it is in their countries’ interest to avoid a global crisis, so they have an incentive to find a compromise in the next few months. Yet both sides are still ratcheting up nationalist rhetoric and pursuing tit-for-tat measures. Trump and Xi each seem to think that his country’s long-term economic and national security may depend on his not blinking in the face of a new cold war. And if they each genuinely believe the other will blink first, the risk of a ruinous clash is high indeed.

It is possible that Trump and Xi will meet for talks during the G20 summit on June 28-29 in Osaka. But even if they do agree to restart negotiations, a comprehensive deal to settle their many points of contention would be a long way off. As the two sides drift further apart, the space for compromise is shrinking, and the risk of a global recession and crisis in an already fragile global economy is rising.

June 16, 2019 Afternoon Verse Of The Day

The Changes in the New Heaven and the New Earth

and He will wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there will no longer be any death; there will no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain; the first things have passed away.” And He who sits on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” And He said, “Write, for these words are faithful and true.” Then He said to me, “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end.” (21:4–6a)

Heaven will be so dramatically different from the present world that to describe it requires the use of negatives, as well as the previous positives. To describe what is totally beyond human understanding also requires pointing out how it differs from present human experience.

The first change from their earthly life believers in heaven will experience is that God will wipe away every tear from their eyes (cf. 7:17; Isa. 25:8). That does not mean that people who arrive in heaven will be crying and God will comfort them. They will not, as some imagine, be weeping as they face the record of their sins. There is no such record, because “there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus” (Rom. 8:1), since Christ “bore our sins in His body on the cross, so that we might die to sin and live to righteousness; for by His wounds you were healed” (1 Pet. 2:24). What it declares is the absence of anything to be sorry about—no sadness, no disappointment, no pain. There will be no tears of misfortune, tears over lost love, tears of remorse, tears of regret, tears over the death of loved ones, or tears for any other reason.

Another dramatic difference from the present world will be that in heaven there will no longer be any death (cf. Isa. 25:8). The greatest curse of human existence will be no more. “Death,” as Paul promised, “is swallowed up in victory” (1 Cor. 15:54). Both Satan, who had the power of death (Heb. 2:14) and death itself will have been cast into the lake of fire (20:10, 14).

Nor will there be any mourning, or crying in heaven. The grief, sorrow, and distress that produce mourning and its outward manifestation, crying, will not exist in heaven. This glorious reality will be the fulfillment of Isaiah 53:3–4: “He was despised and forsaken of men, a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief; and like one from whom men hide their face He was despised, and we did not esteem Him. Surely our griefs He Himself bore, and our sorrows He carried; yet we ourselves esteemed Him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.” When Christ bore believers’ sins on the cross, He also bore their sorrows, since sin is the cause of sorrow.

The perfect holiness and absence of sin that will characterize heaven will also mean that there will be no more pain. On the cross, Jesus was “pierced through for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; the chastening for our well-being fell upon Him, and by His scourging we are healed” (Isa. 53:5). While the healing in view in that verse is primarily spiritual healing, it also includes physical healing. Commenting on Jesus’ healing of Peter’s mother-in-law, Matthew 8:17 says, “This was to fulfill what was spoken through Isaiah the prophet: ‘He Himself took our infirmities and carried away our diseases.’ ” The healing ministry of Jesus was a preview of the well-being that will characterize the millennial kingdom and the eternal state. The glorified sin free bodies believers will possess in heaven will not be subject to pain of any kind.

All those changes that will mark the new heaven and the new earth indicate that the first things have passed away. Old human experience related to the original, fallen creation is gone forever, and with it all the mourning, suffering, sorrow, disease, pain, and death that has characterized it since the Fall. Summarizing those changes in a positive way, He who sits on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” The One who sits on the throne is the same One “from whose presence earth and heaven fled away, and no place was found for them” (20:11). As noted in chapter 17 of this volume, the present universe will be uncreated. The new heaven and the new earth will be truly a new creation, and not merely a refurbishing of the present heaven and earth. In that forever new creation, there will be no entropy, no atrophy, no decay, no decline, and no waste.

Overwhelmed by all that he had seen, John seems to have lost his concentration. Thus, God Himself, the glorious, majestic One on the throne said to him “Write, for these words are faithful and true” (cf. 1:19). The words John was commanded by God to write are as faithful and true (cf. 22:6) as the One revealing them to him (3:14; 19:11). Though the present “heaven and earth will pass away,” still God’s “words will not pass away” (Luke 21:33). There will be an end to the universe, but not to the truth God reveals to His people. Whether or not men understand and believe that truth, it will come to pass.

Also by way of summary, the majestic voice of the One sitting on heaven’s throne said to John, “It is done.” Those words are reminiscent of Jesus’ words on the cross, “It is finished!” (John 19:30). Jesus’ words marked the completion of the work of redemption; these words mark the end of redemptive history. It is the time of which Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 15:24–28:

Then comes the end, when He hands over the kingdom to the God and Father, when He has abolished all rule and all authority and power. For He must reign until He has put all His enemies under His feet. The last enemy that will be abolished is death. For He has put all things in subjection under His feet. But when He says, “All things are put in subjection,” it is evident that He is excepted who put all things in subjection to Him. When all things are subjected to Him, then the Son Himself also will be subjected to the One who subjected all things to Him, so that God may be all in all.

The One who sits on the throne is qualified to declare the end of redemptive history, because He is the Alpha and the Omega (the first and last letters of the Greek alphabet; cf. 1:8), the beginning and the end (cf. Isa. 44:6; 48:12). God started history, and He will end it, and all of it has unfolded according to His sovereign plan. That this same phrase is applied to the Lord Jesus Christ in 22:13 offers proof of His full deity and equality with the Father.[1]

5 Now, for the second time in the book, God himself is the speaker (cf. 1:8). From his throne comes the assurance that the one who created the first heaven and earth will indeed make all things new (panta kaina, GK 4246, 2785). This is a strong confirmation that God’s power will be revealed and his redemptive purposes fulfilled. Since these words are, in truth, God’s words (cf. 19:9; 22:6), it is of utmost importance that this vision of the new heaven and the new Jerusalem be proclaimed to the churches.[2]

5 The silence of God in Revelation is broken by his declaration, “I am making everything new!”24 The throne upon which God sits (cf. 4:2, 9; 5:1, 7; 6:16; 7:10, 15; 19:14) symbolizes his sovereignty and majesty. It is from this position of awesome power that he announces his intention of creating the new order. The renovation of the universe was a familiar concept in apocalyptic literature. Jub. 1:29 spoke of a “new creation when the heavens and the earth shall be renewed” (cf. 1 Enoch 91:16; 2 Bar. 57:2; 44:12; 2 Esdr 7:75; etc.). Through the prophet Isaiah God had promised, “Behold, I will create new heavens and a new earth. The former things will not be remembered, nor will they come to mind” (Isa 65:17). The transformation that Paul saw taking place in the lives of believers (2 Cor 3:18; 4:16–18; 5:16–17) will have its counterpart on a cosmic scale when a totally new order will replace the old order marred by sin.

Most scholars hold that the command to write in v. 5 comes from an angel, as in 14:13 and 19:9. The interpretation is based primarily on the changes in tense of the verb “to say” in vv. 5 and 6 (lit., “said … says … said”). It is argued that since the first and third utterances are from God, why would the second be altered if the speaker were the same? It is of equal weight, however, to argue that there is no reason why the second verb should not be altered for stylistic reasons and God be the one who speaks throughout. In 1:19 the glorified Christ had also instructed John to write. The content of what he is to write is contained in the vision of eternal blessedness given in vv. 1–5. He is to write it because the revelation is trustworthy and true.[3]

Ver. 5.—And he that sat upon the throne said; that sitteth (cf. ch. 20:11 and Matt. 25:31). Behold, I make all things new. As in ver. 1. So in Matt. 19:28, “Ye which have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory,” etc. And he said unto me, Write; and he saith, Write. Probably the angel (cf. ch. 19:9; 14:13). The change from εἶπεν to λέγει and the immediate return to εἶπεν appear to indicate a change of speaker. For these words are true and faithful; faithful and true. So also in ch. 19:9; 3:14, etc.[4]

5a καὶ εἶπεν ὁ καθήμενος ἐπὶ τῷ θρόνῳ ἰδοὺ καινὰ ποιῶ πάντα, “Then the One sitting on the throne said, ‘Behold, I am making everything new.’ ” This is a clear allusion to Isa 43:19, “Behold, I am doing a new thing.” The apocalyptic theme of cosmic renewal may be reflected in 1QH 13:11–12 (tr. Vermes, Dead Sea Scrolls, 199), “For Thou hast shown them that which they had not [seen by removing all] ancient things and creating new ones [ולברוא חדשׁות wĕlibrôʾ ḥădāšôt].” A microcosmic application of the apocalyptic notion of the recreation or renewal of the world is found in 2 Cor 5:17, where Paul says that those in Christ are a καινὴ κτίσις [cf. Gal 6:15]· τὰ ἀρχαῖα παρῆλθεν, ἰδοὺ γέγονεν καινά, “new creation; what is old has disappeared; behold, it has become new” (see D. E. Aune, “Zwei Modelle der menschlichen Natur bei Paulus,” TQ 176 [1996] 28–39). This is probably also an allusion to Isa 43:18–19 (cf. Isa 65:17). It is clear that the short speech in vv 5–8 is attributed to God himself and is the only such speech in Revelation, with the exception of the brief self-disclosure in 1:8.

5b καὶ λέγει· γράψον, ὅτι οὗτοι οἱ λόγοι πιστοὶ καὶ ἀληθινοί εἰσιν, “He also said, ‘Write, for this message is trustworthy and true.’ ” This is the last of several commands to write that apparently have the entire composition in view (Rev 1:11, 19; 21:5; cf. 10:4) rather than just the partial texts that are the objects of the commands to write in 14:13 and 19:9. The phrase οὗτοι οἱ λόγοι πιστοὶ καὶ ἀληθινοί, “this message is trustworthy and true,” occurs again verbatim in 22:6 (in both passages πιστοὶ καὶ ἀληθινοί, “trustworthy and true,” is a hendiadys, i.e., one idea expressed through two different words), while in 19:9 we find the parallel phrase οὗτοι οἱ λόγοι ἀληθινοὶ τοῦ θεοῦ εἰσιν, “these are the true words of God.” In Greco-Roman divinatory charms there is a major concern, as there is here, with emphasizing the truthfulness of the revelation, implying the obvious possibility of unreliable revelations (PGM I.320; II.10, 115; III.288; IV.913, 1033, 2504; V.421; VII.248, 571; XIV.6–7; cf. Daniel-Maltomini, Supplementum Magicum 2:65, line 67 [commentary]).[5]

21:5. In chapter 21 the first speaker was an unidentified voice from the throne. John now hears a second speaker. The throne is the great throne of heaven, first seen in 4:2, but most recently the place of final judgment (20:11). The Judge of the final reckoning was Christ. Now he speaks, as Creator rather than as Judge. Isaiah had foreseen this new creation (Isa. 65:17). During his earthly life Jesus had pledged, “I am going there [to my Father’s house] to prepare a place for you” (John 14:2), suggesting a process of creation. Now his statement that I am making everything new emphasizes both the process and settled determination of Jesus to establish this eternal reality.

The angel in charge of this vision had commanded John earlier to write a “blessed” followed by a solemn affirmation of its divine trustworthiness (19:9). Now Jesus himself urges John to write this down, apparently the entire vision sequence. An equally solemn affirmation follows, applying especially to the words just spoken. They are trustworthy and true words because they issue from the one whose name is “Faithful and True” (19:11; the vocabulary is identical in the original).[6]

5. And the one seated on the throne said, “Look, I am making all things new,” and he said, “Write, for these words are faithful and true.”

The phrase the one seated on the throne is a circumscription of the divine name that recalls the throne room setting (chapter 4). It is a recurring phrase in Revelation and Old Testament passages. Avoiding the use of God’s name, John allocates the origin of the voice to the throne. Now not an angel but God himself speaks and instructs John (vv. 5–8). Several times from his throne God directs a message to his people (v. 3; 1:8; 16:1, 17), but this is the last time in Revelation that he directly utters an announcement.

God tells the readers of the Apocalypse that he is making all things new (compare Isa. 43:19, which lacks the words all things). But here is the glorious outcome of God’s redemptive plan that Christ fulfilled: the renewal of all things. Notice that God calls attention to the fact that he is presently doing it, not that he will eventually do it. This utterance, therefore, is a direct revelation from God, who recreates, and as such it is one of the most important verses in Revelation. God renews sinful human beings through the work of Christ and makes them into a new creation (2 Cor. 5:17). In addition to human beings all things are renewed. This is God’s promise that points forward to the consummation, the transformation of heaven and earth, and the renewal of his entire creation (see 4 Ezra [=2 Esdras] 7:75).

Once again John is told to write (1:11; 14:13; 19:9), so that the content of Revelation may be preserved for countless generations. The reason for recording these words is that they are faithful and true. They are not hollow sounds, nor words that in time lose their meaning, but they express unqualified and lasting trustworthiness. God, who in Christ is the Savior and Redeemer of this world, will honor his word in bringing about a new heaven and a new earth. The words faithful and true are repeated in 22:6 (compare 19:9).[7]

“War On Tankers” To Exact A High Price For White House & Global Economy | ZeroHedge News

Authored by Elijah Magnier, Middle East based chief international war correspondent for Al Rai Media

Japanese Prime Minister Abe Shinzo conveyed a message from US President Donald Trump to the Iranian leadership, asking the release of 5 US prisoners and inviting Iran to sit around a negotiation table, adding “he [Donald Trump] would be ready to suspend all sanctions only during the negotiations”. No guarantee was offered to freeze or revoke the sanctions. Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei rejected the message and any dialogue with the US President and told his guest that he considers Trump unworthy to “to exchange a message with”.

Informed sources close to Iranian decision makers repeated the words of President Hassan Rouhani and the Iranian advisor to Sayyed Khamenei for international affairs, Ali Akbar Velayati, namely that “if Iran can’t export oil through the Persian Gulf, no-one in the Middle East will be able do this.

The source “expects further attacks in the future, given the US decision to stop the flow of oil by all means at all costs. Thus, oil will stop being delivered to the world if Iran can’t export its two million barrels per day”.

Two tankers  – Kokuka Courageous and Font Altair – were attacked in the Gulf of Oman on Thursday, putting at risk the supply of oil to the West and making oil tanker navigation in the Middle East very unsafe. “One more attack and insurance companies are expected to increase their fees. More attacks and no insurance company will agree to cover any oil tanker navigating in Gulf waters, putting Iran and other oil-exporters at the same level. Moreover, let us see what justifications Trump and Europe will offer their people when the price of oil becomes unaffordable,” said the source.

“Tensions in the Gulf can be eased only when sanctions are lifted on Iran. Otherwise, more objectives may be targeted and the level of tension will gradually increase. The US is selling weapons which are inadequate to protect oil tankers or to protect oil pipelines delivering oil to harbors. If Iran is in pain, the rest of the world will suffer equally,” said the source.

“The selling of oil was compared to a horde of wolves hunting together: when one is unable to hunt, others replace him. When Iran was under sanctions unable to sell its crude oil production daily, Saudi Arabia and Russia replaced Iran and increased their production and delivery. This is why Sayyed Ali Khamenei told the Iranian leadership to no longer consider any country as a durable friend and ally.”

Today, the Gulf of Oman has become the operational stage to attack oil tankers. The oil tankers suffered multiple attacks. Had the attackers aimed to sink the oil tankers, this would have created an ecological disaster in the Gulf of Oman and the Indian Ocean. Iran wants everybody to sit around the negotiation table, including the Gulf countries, but only once the sanctions are lifted.

“President Trump is betting on maintaining the status-quo. This doesn’t suit Iran, because its economy will suffer dearly. Binding the deep economic wound and holding on until Trump ends his first mandate is playing into Trump’s hand and this is not going to happen. The tension in the Gulf was generated when Trump decided to pull out of the nuclear deal (known as the JCPOA). Let him pay the price now. If Iran cannot export its crude oil it means the country must be ready for war,” continue the source.

Russia advised Iran to remain within the JCPOA and Iran promised to withdraw only gradually. The Iranian leadership believes Trump would like to see Iran pull out completely from the nuclear deal so he can accuse Tehran of moving towards a nuclear bomb.

It is a real war that is unfolding in the Middle East today, a war where oil tankers and oil delivery to the world (30% of world oil supply goes through the Gulf) are the targets. President Trump and his Middle East allies will have to bear the responsibility of the losses and the increase in the oil price worldwide due to attacks on oil tankers that are not likely to stop even in the face of US threats.

If Iran considers the sanctions detrimental to the survival of its population in the medium term, it means Iran is ready to go to war and accept the consequences. It is not possible to threaten a country that is already foundering economically. However, for Trump to lift sanctions would provide ammunition for the Democrats to attack Trump in his forthcoming campaign.

The other choice would be to lift sanctions and invite Iran to negotiate. And the last choice would be to challenge Iran, confront it and accept that the entire Middle East will go up in flames. After all, the Iranian leadership welcomed the US aircraft carrier coming to the Gulf and called it a “shooting gallery”. The ball is firmly in the United States’ court.

US, Israel and Saudis Pushing for War on Iran? | Stephen Lendman

What’s going on in Washington and the Middle East is eerily reminiscent of what preceded Bush/Cheney’s 2003 war on Iraq — weapons of mass deception the pretext.

All wars are based on Big Lies and deception, truth-telling the ally of peace and stability, why aggressors go all-out to suppress it, establishment media serving their interests.

Pretexts are needed to sell wars. When none exist they’re invented. Secretary of State Colin Powell was Bush/Cheney’s point man for selling war on Iraq.

He faked evidence in Security Council remarks, falsely accusing Saddam Hussein of “concealing…efforts to produce” WMDs. He lied claiming:

“(E)very statement I make today is backed up by sources, solid sources. These are not assertions. What we’re giving you are the facts and conclusions based on solid intelligence,” adding:

“The gravity of this moment is matched by the gravity of the threat that Iraq’s weapons of mass destruction pose to the world.”

No WMDs existed, no Iraqi threat “to the world.” Powell sold US aggression on Iraq based on bald-faced Big Lies and mass deception.

Mike Pompeo is Trump’s Colin Powell, falsely blaming Iran for last week’s Gulf of Oman incident and earlier regional ones in May. Despite no credible evidence proving his accusation, he said the following:

The Trump regime’s “assessment (about Iran) is based on intelligence (sic), the weapons used (sic), the level of expertise needed to execute the operation (sic), recent similar Iranian attacks on shipping (sic), and the fact that no proxy group operating in the area has the resources and proficiency to act with such a high degree of sophistication (sic).”

The above bald-faced Big Lies reflected his Colin Powell moment, compounded by falsely blaming Iran for “attack(ing) four (UAE, Saudi, Norwegian) commercial ships near the Strait of Hormuz” last month no evidence suggests it had anything to do with.

Despite the madness of war on Iran, risking the Middle East boiling more than already over if launched, rage by hardliners in Washington to transform Iran into a US client state could make the unthinkable reality.

On Friday, acting US war secretary Patrick Shanahan said he, Pompeo, and John Bolton are working on “build(ing)  international consensus to this international problem” — referring to falsely blaming Iran for the Gulf of Oman and earlier regional incidents no evidence suggests it had anything to do with.

Asked if the Trump regime intends sending more US forces to the region, Shanahan said “we’re always planning various contingencies…should the situation deteriorate.”

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif slammed false Trump regime accusations, saying the US “immediately jumped to make allegations against Iran without a shred of factual or circumstantial evidence” — nothing but Big Lies about incidents with US and perhaps Israeli fingerprints all over them.

On Saturday, Saudi energy minister Khalid al-Falih called for “a rapid and decisive response to the threat,” falsely pointing fingers at Iran.

Saudi crown prince Mohammed bin Salman turned truth on its head, falsely blaming Iran for the Gulf of Oman incident, urging a “decisive stand” against the country, adding:

“We do not want a war in the region (sic). But we won’t hesitate to deal with any threat to our people, our sovereignty, our territorial integrity and our vital interests.”

Israeli military intelligence-connected DEBKAfile falsely accused Iran of “pulling off half a dozen attacks on US allies in the past month (sic), peaking in the sabotage of two oil tankers in the Gulf of Oman on Thursday, June 13 (sic),” adding:

“Tehran managed to keep its plans hidden from the eyes of hostile spy agencies and catch them all by surprise.”

Israel and the Saudis are itching for the US to wage war on Iran. Haaretz is part of the propaganda war on the country, saying:

“Iran was responsible for Thursday’s attack on oil tankers in the Gulf of Oman, as it was for other incidents in recent weeks in the area” — short of evidence proving it, adding:

“…Iranian denials don’t sound convincing.” Netanyahu so far said little publicly about last week’s incident.

Former Israeli national security advisor Yaakov Amidror said it’s important for Israel not to (publicly) interfere with Trump regime policies toward Iran.

What’s discussed privately is another matter. There’s no ambiguity about longstanding Israeli rage for wanting Iran eliminated as its key regional rival, wanting the US to serve its interests.

Separately, the Taliban claimed responsibility for a May 31 Kabul, Afghanistan suicide bombing, wounding four US military personnel and at least three civilians.

Pompeo falsely blamed Iran for the incident, calling it one “in a series of attacks instigated by the Islamic Republic of Iran and its surrogates against American and allied interests” — adding another reason to sell war on the country.

Deputy director of the right wing Wilson Center’s Asia program Michael Kugelman was skeptical about the above accusation, saying:

Trump regime hardliners are “itching for a fight with Iran. Unfortunately, that sometimes entails making some accusations against Iran that are somewhat questionable.”

Blaming Iran for a Kabul attack “seems like a bit of a stretch,” his remarks a clear understatement about another incident no evidence suggests Iran had anything to do with.

Making accusations is easy, proving them another matter entirely. Most important is world community and public perception as well as consensus.

Clearly Trump regime hardliners are trying to build a case for war on Iran or at minimum gain consensus to isolate the country, including by getting Brussels to cease supporting the JCPOA nuclear deal even though Britain, France and Germany have done little to enforce it after Trump’s May 2018 pullout.

The US wants Iran brought to its knees, its oil, gas, and other revenues from international trade cut off, forcing it to bend to Washington’s will.

If its war by other means fails, what’s been the case for decades, war may be the Trump regime’s fallback option.

That’s why it’s crucial for the world community to unite against the greatest threat to world peace in the post-9/11 era.

Media Wrongfully Blame Iran for Likely US-Staged False Flag Attacks | Stephen Lendman

Despite no credible evidence suggesting Iranian responsibility for Thursday’s Gulf of Oman attacks or earlier regional ones in May, US establishment side with the Trump regime’s Big Lies against the country — what they always do against its adversaries.

They vilified Julian Assange, supporting his prosecution if handed over to Trump regime hardliners for the “crime” of truth-telling journalism the way it should be, ignoring their war on speech, media and academic freedoms, eroding en route to disappearing altogether along with other fundamental rights if strong action isn’t taken to halt Washington’s tyrannical agenda.

NYT editors lied saying “Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps is a likely culprit” for last Thursday’s Gulf of Oman incident, citing Pompeo’s Big Lie about the incident and dubious CENTCOM video proving nothing.

The US and Iran “are on a collision course,” the Times added, blaming both sides when clearly the Trump regime is responsible for what’s going on, waging war on the Islamic Republic by other means, wanting its legitimate government toppled.

The Times and other US media failed to denounce lawless Trump regime actions against a sovereign state threatening no one, how Washington operates against all nations it doesn’t control.

The Times: Iran “continue(s) working to thwart American objectives in Syria, Iraq and elsewhere across the region.”

Fact: Tehran is involved in aiding its Syrian ally combat US created and supported terrorists, what US and other Western media fail to explain, blaming imperial victims for US high crimes of war and against humanity committed against them.

The Times called for “American and allied intelligence agencies (to) thoroughly investigate the tanker attacks.”

What’s needed is an independent investigation excluding US involvement — though getting it may be impossible because of US pressure to blame Iran for what no evidence suggests it was responsible for.

Separately, the Times’ resident neocon extremist Bret Stephens headlined “The Pirates of Tehran” in an opinion piece, saying “(i)f Iran won’t change its behavior, we should sink its navy,” adding:

“(T)he evidence against Iran (for the Gulf of Oman attacks) is compelling” — despite no credible evidence suggesting its responsible for a false flag incident with likely US and maybe Israeli fingerprints all over it.

Maybe Stephens has launching WW III in mind, drawing Russia and China into a conflict — where things are likely heading if US rage for global dominance isn’t strongly contested by the world community.

The neocon/CIA house organ Washington Post said “Trump has backed himself into a dangerous corner on Iran,” adding: “(I)t appears likely that Tehran was responsible for the attack and for another strike against ships in the Gulf of Oman last month” — ignoring no credible evidence suggesting Iranian responsibility for any aggressive actions.

Not according to WaPo, falsely accusing the Islamic Republic of “aggression across the Middle East, against which the United States ought to push back” — getting things backwards, falsely blaming Tehran for hostile US regional actions, notably post-9/11.

Calling Iran a “dangerous threat to the United States” is a bald-faced Big Lie about a nation threatening no one. The US threatens world peace and societies safe and fit to live in — what establishment media never explain.

Pushing for war, hawkish Wall Street Journal editors lied, saying “(i)t is almost certainly true that Iran is behind the attacks, which makes it all the more important that the West unite in opposition to Iran’s aggression,” adding:

“(O)nly a nation with a sophisticated military could carry out” the attacks, falsely claiming Iran “sen(t) the world a message: Pressure the US to lift the sanctions or there will be more of this, and worse, to disrupt oil shipments in the Gulf.”

A previous article explained that more than any other nations, the US and Israel have the means, motive and opportunity to carry out sophisticated aggressive actions against nations and targets of convenience.

Their history of aggression is well documented. In contrast, Iran is the Middle East’s leading proponent of peace and stability, at war with no nations, threatening none.

No Iranian aggression exists now or earlier, what the US and its imperial partners are responsible for against one nation after another it doesn’t control, wanting them transformed into vassal states.

US history of false flag attacks is well documented. The Gulf of Oman and weeks earlier regional incidents have US fingerprints all over them, maybe Israeli ones as well.

No evidence whatever suggests Iranian responsibility for what happened. Trump regime hardliners, their Israeli, Saudi, and UAE counterparts are pushing things toward war on Iran.

It’s the world community’s responsibility to prevent things from going this far — what would embroil the region more than already and risk possible global war if Russia and/or China get involved to contest US aggression against Iranian sovereignty.

US Govt’s Entire Russia-DNC Hacking Narrative Based On Redacted Draft Of Crowdstrike Report | ZeroHedge News

It’s been known for some time that the US Government based its conclusion that Russia hacked the Democratic National Committee (DNC) on a report by cybersecurity firm Crowdstrike, which the DNC paid over a million dollars to conduct forensic analysis on servers they refused to hand over to the FBI.

CrowdStrike’s report made its way a joint FBI/DHS report on an Russia’s “Grizzly Steppe“, which concluded Russia hacked the DNC’s servers. Crowdstrike’s claim has drawn scrutiny from cybersecurity experts according to former Breitbart reporter Lee Stranahan.

Now, thanks to a new court filing by longtime Trump adviser Roger Stone requesting the full Crowdstrike analysis, we find out that the US government was given a redacted version of the report marked “Draft,” as reported by the Conservative Treehouse.

What makes the whole thing even more hokey is a footnote admitting that “counsel for the DNC and DCCC informed the government that they are the last version of the report produced.

So to be clear – the entire narrative that Russia hacked the DNC is based on a redacted draft of a report which Crowdstrike appears not to have even finalized.

And as the Conservative Treehouse notes: “This means the FBI and DOJ, and all of the downstream claims by the intelligence apparatus; including the December 2016 Joint Analysis Report and January 2017 Intelligence Community Assessment, all the way to the Weissmann/Mueller report and the continued claims therein; were based on the official intelligence agencies of the U.S. government and the U.S. Department of Justice taking the word of a hired contractor for the Democrat party….. despite their inability to examine the server and/or actually see an unredacted technical forensic report from the investigating contractor.”

The entire apparatus of the U.S. government just took their word for it…

…and used the claim therein as an official position….

…which led to a subsequent government claim, in court, of absolute certainty that Russia hacked the DNC.

Think about that for a few minutes. –Conservative Treehouse

Meanwhile, the Crowdstrike analyst who led forensics on the DNC servers is a former FBI employee who Robert Mueller promoted while head of the agency. It should also be noted that the government of Ukraine admonished Crowdstrike for a report they later retracted and amended, claiming that Russia hacked Ukrainian military.

In connection with the emergence in some media reports which stated that the alleged “80% howitzer D-30 Armed Forces of Ukraine removed through scrapping Russian Ukrainian hackers software gunners,” Land Forces Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine informs that the said information is incorrect.

Ministry of Defence of Ukraine asks journalists to publish only verified information received from the competent official sources. Spreading false information leads to increased social tension in society and undermines public confidence in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. –mil.gov.ua (translated) (1.6.2017)

Did The ‘B-Team’ Overplay It’s Hand On Iran? | ZeroHedge News

Authored by Tom Luongo,

Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif has a term of endearment for Iran’s enemies, “The B-Team.”

The “B-Team” consists of U.S. National Security Advisor John Bolton, Israeli Prime Minister (nee Dictator) Benjamin Netanyahu, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman and the UAE’s Mohammed bin Zayed.

When we look seriously at the attacks on the oil tankers in the Gulf of Oman this week the basic question that comes to mind is, Cui bono? Who benefits?

And it’s easy to see how the B-Team benefits from this attack and subsequent blaming Iran for it. With Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in Tehran opening up a dialogue on behalf of U.S. President Donald Trump the threat of peace was in the air.

And none of the men on the B-Team profit from peace in the Middle East with respect to Iran. Getting Trump to stop hurling lightning bolts from the mountain top the B-Team guided him up would do nothing to help oil prices, which the Saudis and UAE need/want to remain high.

Bin Salman, in particular, cannot afford to see oil prices drop back into the $40’s per barrel. With the world awash in oil and supply tight, even with OPEC production cuts, Bin Salman is currently on very thin ice because of the Saudi Riyal’s peg to the U.S. dollar, which he can’t abandon or the U.S. will abandon them.

Falling oil prices and a rising dollar are a recipe for the death of the Saudi government, folks. Iran knows this.

Netanyahu and Bolton don’t want peace because the U.S. fighting a war with Iran serves the cause of Greater Israel and opens up the conflict in the hopes of regime change and elimination of Iran.

Bolton, as well, is finally feeling the heat of his incompetence and disloyalty to Trump, according to John Kirakau at Consortium News.

Of course, a more rational person might conclude that Bolton has done a terrible job, that the people around him have done a terrible job, that he has aired his disagreements with Trump in the media, and that the President is angry about it. That’s the more likely scenario.

Here’s what my friends are saying. Trump is concerned, like any president is near the end of his term, about his legacy. He said during the campaign that he wanted to be the president who pulled the country out of its two longest wars. He wanted to declare victory and bring the troops back from Afghanistan and Iraq. He hasn’t done that, largely at the insistence of Bolton. Here we are three years later and we’re still stuck in both of those countries.

Second, my friends say that Trump wants to end U.S. involvement in the Yemen war, but that Bolton has been insistent that the only way to guarantee the closeness of the U.S. relationships with Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates is to keep providing those countries with weapons, aerial refueling planes, and intelligence support.

So, couple the attacks on these tankers with the timing of Abe’s visit and the vote on Rand Paul’s bill to end selling arms to the Saudis in support of their war in Yemen (which flew through the Senate thanks to this attack getting a number of senators to change their vote at the last second) and we have a perfect cui bono.

That’s the entire B-Team’s motives distilled down to a couple of drones flying in to create a casus belli which saves Bolton’s job, keeps the weapons flowing to the murderous Saudis and creates an opportunity for Netanyahu to feed Trump bad information via his ‘intelligence’ services.

The rush to judgment by the usual suspects in the Trump administration should be all the proof you need that we’re looking at a set up to get Trump to fly off the handle which he, so far, hasn’t done.

Remember, Trump wants lower oil prices. He wants a weaker dollar and lower interest rates. He needs the frackers in Eagle Ford and Permian to keep raising output but they keep bleeding red ink. He’s fighting the Fed as well as former directors of the FBI, CIA and ODNI via his new attorney general, William Barr.

His approval rating is high and he’s going after his political enemies now. But a potential war in the Middle East is a real problem for him.

And this is where Moon of Alabama’s Bernard comes in with his excellent analysis of the current situation vis-a-vis Iran. The whole article is worth your time but the money-shot, as it were, is right here:

To say that the attacks were provocations by the U.S. or its Middle East allies is made easier by their evident ruthlessness. Any accusations by the Trump administration of Iranian culpability will be easily dismissed because everyone knows that Trump and his crew are notorious liars.

This cat and mouse game will now continue and steadily gain pace. More tankers will get damaged or even sunk. Saudi refineries will start to explode. UAE harbors will experience difficulties. Iran will plausibly deny that it is involved in any of this. The U.S. will continue to blame Iran but will have no evidence to prove it.

Insurance for Middle East cargo will become very expensive. Consumer prices for oil products will increase and increase again. The collateral damage will be immense.

All this will gradually put more pressure on Trump.

Don’t forget that the U.S.’s sanctions on Iran make it difficult for Iran to insure its cargoes. So, even if a company or country wanted to still do business with NIOC, they can’t because they can’t get insurance on the cargo.

It’s been a real problem that Iran had to solve by having its own fleet of tankers which it also insures domestically to keep what oil it can export flowing. So it only makes sense to begin hitting the rest of the world via the same weapons being used against Iran.

But as Trump has ratcheted up the pressure he’s put Iran in the exact position that makes them the most dangerous. Acting through deniable proxies Iran can now drag this out as a low-grade conflict far longer than Trump can bear politically.

They don’t need to shut down the Strait of Hormuz. They just have to screw with its enemies’ ability to make a living. The political pressure that will come to bear on a global economy imploding because of instability in the flow of oil is not something a butcher like Bin Salman of Saudi Arabia is capable of handling.

Bernard calls Trump’s administration ‘notorious liars’ and that’s the key. People can look no further than the ludicrous and inept handling of the regime change operation in Venezuela and see the mendacity first hand.

That operation was so bad, culminating in the pathetic “Bay of Fat Pigs” coup attempt, that it has left every country that backed Bolton and Pompeo’s play there, including Trump himself, looking like morons.

You don’t embarrass the narcissists who inhabit high-level government offices and not suffer in some way. This is why I give a lot of credence to John Kirakou’s conclusion that Bolton being one approved candidate away from unemployment.

Firing Bolton and having Abe and German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas go to Tehran are good will gestures. But Trump has let his B-Team badly mismanage this situation in the same way that he let Bolton and Pompeo mismanage Kim Jong-un and North Korea.

No one believes he’s capable of peace or showing shame. He’s left himself in no position to climb down from this position without the help of Iran itself.

This is exactly the argument I made in April of 2017 after his missile strike on Syria over a “beautiful piece of chocolate cake.” He revealed himself to be both tactically and strategically incompetent.

He has to come groveling to them now. But he won’t. And Iran and its benefactors, Russia and China, have no incentive to come to him. He can’t keep his promises since he’s not really in charge of policy. As Ayatollah Khamenei pointed out on Twitter (oh, the irony):

Trump thought the B-Team was giving him negotiating leverage. But what happens to your leverage when the other person takes his chips, walks away from the table and says, “No. I won’t deal with you.”

So now the screws will be put to everyone. Trump pushed Erdogan of Turkey away over the S-400 and Putin called in his marker forcing Erdogan to end his support for Al-Qaeda in Idlib. That campaign will be slow and excruciating but it will eventually grind them out.

Iran has been handed all the cards they need to become the exact thing Pompeo, Trump and the B-Team have been accusing them of being but now with the cover of deniability and asymmetry. All of the things Moon of Alabama laid out are now going to happen even if Trump fires Bolton, pulls troops out and lifts the oil embargo on Syria, etc.

Netanyahu will scream bloody murder and up the ante until Putin slaps him down. Because now that Trump has made it clear he doesn’t want war with Iran we know there’s a limit to what Bibi can incite.

If Trump was serious about war with Iran it would have already been declared. The smoke, however, is blowing in a different direction.

Iran will retaliate here just to make the point that they can. They will make Saudi Arabia and the UAE pay the biggest price directly while Trump finally has to start thinking things through or his presidency will end badly next year.

The war of attrition against the fragility of the Western financial system will enter the next stage here. Iran, China and Russia will now, sadly, activate the weapons they have been holding back for years, hoping that Trump and his B-Team would come to their senses.

This is what happens when you let the B-Team overplay your hand for you against people who are 1) smarter and 2) more patient than you are.

And, frankly, I don’t blame them one bit. Because as the only thing that American power brokers understand is strength. And you have to hit them between the eyes with a stick to get them to respect you.
