We praise you, O God, we acclaim you as the Lord;all creation worships you, the Father everlasting.
To you all angels, all the powers of heaven,the cherubim and seraphim, sing in endless praise:
Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory.
The glorious company of apostles praise you. The noble fellowship of prophets praise you.
The white-robed army of martyrs praise you.Throughout the world the holy Church acclaims you:
Father, of majesty unbounded, your true and only Son,worthy of all praise, the Holy Spirit, advocate and guide.
You, Christ, are the King of glory, the eternal Son of the Father.
When you took our flesh to set us free you humbly chose the Virgin’s womb.
You overcame the sting of death and opened the kingdom of heaven to all believers.
You are seated at God’s right hand in glory. We believe that you will come and be our judge.
Come then, Lord, and help your people, bought with the price of your own blood,
and bring us with your saints to glory everlasting.
Phos Hilaron – A Song of the Light
Originally written in New Testament Greek, this is the earliest known hymn recorded outside of the Bible that is still in use today. Both Eastern and Western Churches use this hymn in daily worship.
O gracious Light, pure brightness of the ever living Father in heaven,
O Jesus Christ, holy and blessed! Now as we come to the setting of the sun,
and our eyes behold the vesper light, we sing your praises,
O God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. You are worthy at all times to be praised by happy voices,
O Son of God, O Giver of life, and to be glorified through all the worlds.
A PRAYER FOR HELP: Clement of Rome
“We beg you, Master, be our help and strength.
Save those among us who are oppressed,
have pity on the lowly, and lift up the fallen.
Heal the sick, bring back the straying, and feed the hungry.
Release those in prison, lift up those who falter, and strengthen the fainthearted.
Let all nations come to know you the one God,
with your Son Jesus Christ, and us your people and the sheep of your pasture.
Scripture Reading: Matthew 3:11 NIV
“I baptize you with[b] water for repentance.
But after me comes one who is more powerful than I,
whose sandals I am not worthy to carry.
He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.
Benediction; Based on 10th century blessing
As you go on your way, may the Lord Jesus Christ go with you.
May he be near you to defend you;
may he go before you to show you the way;
behind you to encourage you;
beside you to befriend you;
above you to watch over you;
and within you to give you peace.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son,
and of the Holy Spirit, God forevermore.
