July 20 Finding Your Focus

Scripture Reading: 1 Timothy 6:9–21

Key Verse: 1 Timothy 6:17

Command those who are rich in this present age not to be haughty, nor to trust in uncertain riches but in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy.

Admiral Arthur Radford once wrote, “In the Bible, and particularly in Jesus’ spiritual concepts of God and man, all men can find the key to victory, not only one evil system, but in the greater crusade against all falsehood. Mankind, however, appears to come slowly to the realization that freedom is not won and held solely by material means.”

Think about the truth of that statement in your own life. You have the key to victory, to ultimate freedom and triumph over all falsehood. Are you clinging to the hope of some material means to open the gates of freedom for you?

If you are, 1 Timothy 6:17 has a word for you: make sure that nothing becomes a stumbling block for you. True freedom comes when you fix the focus of your heart on Christ alone. Wealth, power, intelligence, beauty, status, politics, or even religious piety can lead quickly to bondage, especially when we desire these more than we desire Christ.

Turn to God and accept His principles for true freedom. He will faithfully supply all of your needs and give you victory over your trials. You will be truly free when all of your joy comes from Him.

Lord, I am so easily drawn to material things and temporal values that don’t last. Keep my mind fixed on You so that I may enjoy Your eternal riches.[1]

July 20 Peer Pressure

Scripture Reading: Romans 12:1–3

Key Verse: 2 Corinthians 5:9

We make it our aim, whether present or absent, to be well pleasing to Him.

We usually think of peer pressure affecting teens, but adults are just as influenced by the actions, dress, and customs of their associates. Fearful of rejection, we seldom venture beyond accepted norms. Seeking the approval of others is a tremendous motivating factor that influences even committed believers.

We should not think of this attitude as being strange. God tells us in the Bible not to be conformed to the world (Rom. 12:2).

Each day you must trust the Lord to keep you from being shaped by the world’s financial, moral, and relational standards. The battle against such conformity can be won only when you truly seek to please God more than you seek to please others.

Pleasing the Lord should be the fervent ambition of every Christian. Pleasing Him means trusting the Holy Spirit to enable us to follow the Word of God as our authority and our guide in every part of living. Pleasing the Lord means obeying Him at any cost—even if it means experiencing the disapproval of others.

Make pleasing God your priority. When you do, you will find yourself conformed to His image, not conformed to the warped image of the world’s empty and vain standards.

Precious Lord, I do not want my life to be shaped by the financial, moral, and relational standards of this world. I want to please You. I trust Your Holy Spirit to enable me to conform to Your Word in every area of my life.[1]

July 20 Faith for Today

Scripture reading: John 14:12–14

Key verse: Hebrews 11:1

Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

In an emotionally taxing time, has someone ever told you to just “have faith”? It sounds like good advice, but the meaning is hazy. In her book Glorious Intruder, Joni Eareckson Tada talks about her struggle to come to grips with the real meaning of faith:

“Have faith, Joni … one day it will all be better.” I can’t tell you how many times I heard words like those from sad-faced friends who clung to the guardrail of my hospital bed when I was first injured.

… If being a woman of faith meant sitting around in my wheelchair longing for pie in the sky, I wanted no part of it. What a colossal misunderstanding!

Faith, as the Bible defines it, is present-tense action. It’s taking God’s promises and acting on them today. This “right now” way of looking at God’s assurances is the stuff of which great people of faith are made … To them, faith is pulled out of the abstract, out of the nebulous nowhere, out of the syrupy twilight, and lived with concrete certainty in the here and now.

Somewhere along the line I realized that. On some dark night in a sterile room the words of Hebrews 11:1 began to seep through my stubborn defenses. I began to realize that faith means being sure of what we hope for now. It means knowing that something is real, this moment, all around you, even when you don’t see it.

Lord, give me a faith that is sure of what I hope for. Give me faith that is real, even when I don’t understand.[1]

Hymn Society Tournament Reveals ‘Holy, Holy, Holy!’ As the ‘Greatest Hymn of All Time’ — BCNN1 – Black Christian News Network

“Holy, Holy, Holy!” has been chosen in a March Madness-like tournament as “the greatest hymn of all time.”

The Hymn Society in the United States and Canada announced the winner on Thursday (July 18), the last day of its annual conference in Dallas.

“Some matchups were real nail-biters, while in others one hymn blew its opposition out of the water!” reads a Thursday post on the society’s Facebook page. “Yesterday was the final round and we can safely say that the Greatest Hymn of All Time — as chosen by you — is: Holy, Holy Holy!!!”

More than 800 people, mostly members of the 1,200-member Hymn Society, voted on the society’s website, on Facebook and, in the last rounds, in person at the conference during the competition that featured brackets similar to the springtime NCAA basketball tradition.

Hymn experts said it was fitting, if not surprising, that “Holy, Holy, Holy!” — which trounced “Amazing Grace,” 70% to 30% in the second round — defeated its musical challengers.

Christopher Phillips, author of the 2018 book “The Hymnal: A Reading History,” said “Holy, Holy, Holy!” is “something of a natural champion among hymns of various eras.

“The words and music have a stately, majestic quality, something many worshippers want to associate with the traditional hymn repertoire,” he said.

Migrant Death Rate Under Trump 20 Percent Lower than Obama Years | Breitbart News

Deaths of migrants who illegally crossed the border during the first two years of the Trump administration fell about 20 percent from the eight-year average under the Obama era. This is in sharp contrast to the political rhetoric of Democrat presidential candidates and certain media outlets decrying the treatment of migrants under President Donald Trump’s watch.

During the eight years of the Obama administration, 2,977 migrants died after illegally crossing the southwest border with Mexico — 372 per year on average, according to a report obtained from U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials.

During the first two complete fiscal years of the Trump administration, 581 migrants died — an average of 291 per year. Despite massively higher border apprehensions in Fiscal Year 2019, the number of deaths appears to be on par with the two prior years, according to the International Organization for Migrants’ Missing Migrant Project. This represents about a 20 percent drop from the Obama administration’s reported migrant deaths.

However, Democratic presidential candidates wasted no time in blaming President Donald Trump’s “inhuman and immoral immigration policy,” according to an article by National Review on Thursday.

The article cites tweets from several Democrat presidential candidates following the drowning death of a Salvadoran migrant and his 23-month-old daughter in June:

Several Democratic presidential candidates tweeted their outrage. Senator Kamala Harris, tweeted: “Trump says, ‘Go back to where you came from.’ That is inhumane. Children are dying. This is a stain on our moral conscience.” Beto O’Rourke tweeted: “Trump is responsible for these deaths.” Senator Cory Booker, tweeted: “These are the consequences of Donald Trump’s inhumane and immoral immigration policy.”

Former Vice President Joe Biden also tweeted about the tragic photo: “This image is gut-wrenching. The cruelty we’re seeing at our border is unconscionable. History will judge how we respond to the Trump Administration’s treatment of immigrant families & children — we can’t be silent. This isn’t who we are. This is not America.”

Former Vice President Biden did not mention the deaths of the 2,977 migrants who died during the eight years he served as Obama’s vice president.

Breitbart News reported extensively about the deaths of migrants during both the Obama and Trump administrations. During the Obama administration, Breitbart wrote 20 times about the deaths of 535 migrants who died in one Texas county alone — Brooks County. The county is located about 80 miles north of the Texas-Mexico border and is home to the Falfurrias Border Patrol Checkpoint on U.S. Highway 281. There doesn’t appear to be any record of Biden discussing the “cruelty” of the Obama administration or about its policies being “unconscionable.”

The CBP report on migrant deaths also indicates a shift in where migrant deaths occurred since about 2015. From 2002 until 2014, the Tucson Sector led the nine sectors that make up the southwest border with Mexico. However, that changed in 2014 when the Rio Grande Valley Sector became the deadliest sector for migrants seeking to enter the U.S. illegally.

“The demagoguery of left-wing politicians and media pundits created a false narrative that the policies of the Trump administration have resulted in these types of border deaths even though they have existed for nearly two decades,” the National Review concluded. “Americans deserve to know the truth about this topic.”

Wayne Root, Candace Owens

By Wayne Allyn Root

My last column was about “BLEXIT” and “JEXIT.” Those are the two movements by Candace Owens and myself to get blacks and Jews to leave the Democrat Party and support President Trump.

This is “Blacks and Jews for Trump- Part Duex.”

Thursday night I was honored to serve as host and Master of Ceremonies for “An Evening with Candace Owens” in Las Vegas. It was an honor to introduce the creator of “BLEXIT.” It was wild to have BLEXIT and JEXIT on stage at the same time.

And afterwards what a surprise. Las Vegas GOP Councilman Stavros Anthony jumped on stage to announce two proclamations declaring July 18th “Wayne Root Day” and “Candace Owens Day” in the city of Las Vegas.

As Don King would say, “Only in America!”

Meanwhile, last week was another great week for President Trump. That must be why the Trump-hating national media has turned a common sense (but controversial) Sunday tweet by Trump into the biggest news headline in America.

Because the achievements of Trump were so fantastic in the past week, they had to once again use a tweet to try to destroy him by taking it out of context, exaggerating and purposely misinterpreting the meaning, then calling him a”racist.”

What a surprise. YAWN. Same playbook. Another day. Another epic fail.

But I’m betting you’ve never heard a word about these Trump accomplishments in the mainstream news:

*The Dow crossed 27,000 for the first time in history and

the S&P 500 broke 3,000 for the first time in history.

*Food stamp participation is the lowest in 10 years (since before Obama became president).

*Border apprehensions reached the lowest level since March. Why? Because President Trump won his battle with Mexico. Mexican military troops are protecting the border. Mexico also agreed to keep the asylum seekers on their side of the border while their cases are being adjudicated. Trump won- again.

*The liberal 9th circuit court handed Trump a huge victory on withholding federal funds to Sanctuary cities.

*Trump announced new Asylum rules that force illegals to apply in another country first. No more open borders. Middle class Americans will cheer this news!

But I saved the best for last. I’ll bet you didn’t hear this one on the evening news. Robert Johnson, the legendary founder of BET (Black Entertainment Television) shocked the world. He’s disillusioned with Democrats.

The first black billionaire in America’s history is a lifelong Democrat donor. He supported Hillary in 2016. Johnson told CNBC, “The Democrat Party has moved too far to the left…the programs that Democrats are pushing are not resonating with the majority of the American people.”

Johnson praised Trump’s handling of the economy. He gave Trump credit for the lowest black unemployment ever. He admitted Trump’s tax cuts led to this booming economy. He gave Trump a grade of A+ for the economy.

Johnson’s summation, “I give the president a lot of credit for moving the economy in a positive direction that’s benefitting a large amount of Americans.”

Lifelong black Democrat Robert Johnson says he isn’t supporting any Democrat for President in 2020.

Many blacks and Jews are re-thinking their views on Trump. Democrats are panicking. That’s why a Sunday tweet is being twisted, contorted and blown out of proportion.

The point of both Candace Owens’ “BLEXIT” and my “JEXIT” is not to produce a majority of blacks and Jews for Trump. We know that can’t happen overnight. But just a few percentage points in Trump’s direction will turn 2020 into a Trump electoral landslide.

That’s the point of “BLEXIT” and “JEXIT.” And trust me, it’s happening. Democrats are scared to death.

University Study Finds US Less Racist Under President Trump than Race-Baiting Obama — The Gateway Pundit

A recent study by University of Pennsylvania reseachers Danial J. Hopkins and Samantha Washington found that America is much less racist under President Trump than under race-baiting, whitey-bashing Democrat Barack Obama.

The survey concluded that via most measures, white Americans’ expressed anti-Black and anti-Hispanic prejudice declined after the 2016 campaign and election, and we can rule out even small increases in the expression of prejudice.

Maybe Americans just didn’t like to be lectured by a pompous radical Socialist like Obama.

And this is despite the liberal mainstream media’s best attempts to accuse ALL Trump supporters of racism.

Via a May 2019 Spectator report:

Daniel J. Hopkins and Samantha Washington set out to measure the effect of Trump’s election on anti-black and anti-Hispanic prejudice, using a randomly-selected panel of 2,500 Americans whose changing opinions have been under study since 2008. The academics report that they had been expecting to measure a rise in racist opinions, writing: ‘The normalization of prejudice or opinion leadership both lead us to expect that expressed prejudice may have increased in this period, especially among Republicans or Trump supporters’. They had been led to expect this, they say, through an extensive reading of recent literature in social sciences which, they say, supports the notion that racist attitudes lie dormant inside many people, waiting to be triggered by certain events – of which the election of Donald Trump might be one. There could, after all, hardly be anything more calculated to awaken an incipient racist than the president calling Mexicans a bunch of rapists.

Yet the study found exactly the opposite. Americans, claim Hopkins and Washington, have actually become less inclined to express racist opinions since Donald Trump was elected. Anti-black prejudice, they found, declined by a statistically-insignificant degree between 2012 and 2016, when Trump was elected. But then after 2016 it took a sharp dive that was statistically significant. Moreover, contrary to their expectations, the fall was as evident among Republican voters as it was among Democrats. There was also a general fall in anti-Hispanic prejudice, too, although this was more evident among Democrat voters.

Congressional Investigators Seeking Nellie Ohr’s Fusion GPS Oppo Research Records on Trump’s Family — The Gateway Pundit

House GOP lawmakers are working to obtain Nellie Ohr’s Fusion GPS opposition research records on Trump’s family according to Fox News reporter Catherine Herridge.

Nellie Ohr told Congress in a closed-door hearing in October of last year that she investigated Trump, his wife Melania and his children as part of her oppo research work for Fusion GPS.

Via Fox News:

During her December 2018 closed-door deposition on Capitol Hill, Nellie Ohr told investigators she did the opposition research on the Trump family for Fusion GPS. Sources said her project predated the hiring of former British spy Christopher Steele, who compiled the dossier.

“I was asked to research Trump’s family broadly in connection with any – any Russian connections,” she said.

Nellie Ohr confirmed to investigators that she explored family members’ foreign travel, among other issues. “I did some research on all of them, but not in much depth,” she said.

She also said the purpose was to “see whether they were involved in dealings and transactions with people who had suspicious pasts, or suspicious types of dealings.”

At the time of her testimony, Nellie Ohr said she was still in possession of the research but was unclear whether it was hers to share, or whether it was owned by her former employer, Fusion GPS.

“Do you still possess the research that you performed?” a Republican investigator asked her during the interview.

“Yes,” she responded.

“Would you be willing to share that with the committee?”

“I guess so,” Nellie Ohr said.

Bruce Ohr was a top official in the DOJ working as an Assistant Deputy Attorney General and was ultimately demoted twice for his connection to Christopher Steele and for promoting the phony dossier.

Bruce Ohr’s wife Nellie Ohr was contracted by oppo research firm Fusion GPS to “assist in cultivation of opposition research on Trump” and her hubby Bruce passed along her Hillary Clinton/DNC-funded dirt to the FBI.

The phony Hillary-funded dossier was eventually used to obtain a FISA warrant on Trump campaign advisor Carter Page.

Congressman Mark Meadows recently criminally referred Nellie Ohr to the Justice Department after hundreds of new emails surfaced, contradicting her previous statements to Congress.

It is unclear if Nellie’s Ohr’s oppo research on Trump’s kids ended up in the phony dossier.
