October 30 Successful Sanctification

Scripture Reading: 1 Corinthians 1:1–7

Key Verses: 1 Peter 1:1–2

Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, To the … elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, in sanctification of the Spirit, for obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace to you and peace be multiplied.

In many places throughout the Scriptures, we find the word sanctification. Sanctification means “to make holy” or “to separate from a common use to a sacred use.” When you trusted Jesus Christ as your Savior, He sanctified you, setting you apart for a very sacred purpose.

The process of sanctification begins at salvation, where those who believe are deemed saints (1 Corinthians 1:1–2). Every believer is a saint, because God has made it so (1 Peter 1:2). Positionally, we are saints, even if our conduct is un-Christlike.

This is because, at the pivotal moment of salvation, we changed positions (Ephesians 2:1–5). We were born again, our sins were forgiven, we were adopted into the family of God, and we are now living under the grace of God instead of under His wrath.

It is important to understand that this first stage of sanctification was done for us by God. No human is holy in himself. We are sanctified only by the blood of Jesus Christ, the work completed for us by a loving heavenly Father. Stop to thank and praise God for His purifying love and grace.

Praise You, Lord, for setting aside this ordinary human to be used for Your sacred purposes. Thank You that it is not accomplished by my work, but by Your grace.[1]

Throughout the “Solas,” the accent is on the qualifier alone. The created world is called to reflect the glory of God. The very fact that God makes a creature places that creature in debt to the Creator. And the only reason you exist and that I exist is for Him. There’s nothing inherently dignified about dirt, and that’s what we’ve been made from. The reason why you count is because God says you count. And the whole world is full of His glory. Only God can bind the conscience absolutely. The peasant armed with one verse of Scripture has more authority than a pope or a church council who does not have Scripture. This is crossed out by the Reformers. This is crossed out by the Reformers. And my inherent righteousness is crossed out. So that you have faith alone, grace alone, Christ alone. The divine prerogative for mercy and grace is “I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy.” That’s His prerogative. God does not owe saving grace to anybody.

I talked to my Arminian friends all the time about this and say, “look, let me ask you a question. Why is it you’re a believer, and many members of your own family or friends that you have are not believers when you both heard the gospel?” Jesus doesn’t say no man can come to him unless God helps it. He says no man can come to Him unless God, in fact, gives it to him. No one is saved just because they affirmed the doctrine of justification. What happens if you deny the doctrine of justification by faith alone? Now that’s a different matter because now you’re denying that you’re saved by Christ and by Christ alone, and that denial may be enough to damn you. Christ alone merits salvation in front of a just and holy God. Because He’s the only one who is sinless. The whole doctrine of justification by faith, the whole doctrine of salvation by grace rests on the principle that the law of God has been fulfilled by Christ. When I put my trust in Him, He computes or counts to me His righteousness. And on the basis of that imputed righteousness, God declares me just right now. So if I die right now, I go to heaven right now, because I have all the righteousness I will ever need to get there—namely the righteousness of Jesus Christ. That’s good news. You reject that you’re rejecting the gospel.

October 30 A Fresh Encounter with God

Scripture Reading: Isaiah 6:1–9

Key Verse: Psalm 139:3

You comprehend my path and my lying down, and are acquainted with all my ways.

Have you ever approached your devotional time with the idea of actually meeting with God? It is easy to reduce a quiet time to little more than a perfunctory Bible reading or study and a quick prayer if you forget the real purpose of setting aside that time.

God wants you to have a real and fresh encounter with Him each day. You don’t generate this meeting through any formula or particular method; you simply come before Him with a humble, repentant heart and a genuine desire to know Him more.

You gain a sense of His presence. Isaiah knew immediately that he was in the presence of the living God. When the meeting ended, Isaiah walked away a changed man. You cannot experience God’s presence and be the same; God’s holiness is life changing, and through the Holy Spirit, He lives inside you forever.

You are never without His presence. You sense your unworthiness. As you come face-to-face with God’s holiness, you realize your needy state. His awesome brightness eclipses even the angels in heaven.

The standard of His righteousness illuminates the sin in your life. You need to understand His forgiveness. The purpose of recognizing sin is not for condemnation and guilt, but for repentance. Christ forgives all your sins, but He wants you to confess them in order to experience His wondrous grace.

Precious Lord, I want to have a fresh encounter with You today. I want to know You better. Meet with me, and when our meeting ends, let me walk away changed.[1]

October 30 Praying for God’s Will

Scripture reading: Colossians 1:9–14

Key verse: Psalm 68:28

Your God has commanded your strength;

Strengthen, O God, what You have done for us.

The most powerful act anyone can perform is to pray for someone. Of course, the power is not in the praying, but in the release God gives in His perfect answer to our prayers. Paul provided an example of one of the most effective prayers we could utter. He prayed for the Colossian church:

  • to be filled with the knowledge of God’s will. What a wonderful gesture to ask God to make clear for family members or friends the precise, exact decisions He wishes them to make in every circumstance.
  • to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord. This means asking that someone’s life will have weight—will count eternally and not temporally.
  • to bear fruit in every good work. We should pray for loved ones to remain so Christ-centered that He through them determines their conversation, conduct, and character.
  • to increase in the knowledge of God. Can there be a more precious request than that of wanting someone to grow ever closer to our heavenly Father?
  • to be strengthened and sustained with the power of God. Within an evil world system, we need the supernatural power of God to help us bear up under the strain.
  • to give thanks for having qualified as saints of God. There is nothing for which we should be more appreciative.

Father, today I pray for those I love—that they will be filled with the knowledge of Your will and walk in a manner worthy of You. Let them bear fruit in every good work and be strengthened and sustained by Your power.[1]

Lecrae, Kirk Franklin Boycott Dove Awards For Not Allowing Them to Spread Racist Divisive Rhetoric | Reformation Charlotte

In 2016, “gospel” artist, Kirk Franklin, received the Gospel Artist of the Year Award at the annual Dove Awards — basically the Christian version of the Grammys. During his acceptance speech, Franklin tried to incite racial division by blaming white people for the death of two black men, Philando Castile and Walter Scott, who were shot by white police officers. The Gospel Music Association (GMA) who hosts the awards ceremony edited his comments out.

In 2019, rinse, repeat, the foul-mouthed pro-abortion “gospel singer” once again tried to use his platform to further a divisive and racist narrative. Franklin says the edited version, which aired on Trinity Broadcasting Network (TBN), edited out his comments on Atatiana Jefferson, the 28-year-old who was shot and killed in her home by a Fort Worth police officer.

Now, he says he will be boycotting the Dove Awards — and Lecrae will be joining him.

His post received thousands of comments including one from fellow woke rap artist, Lecrae. “I only came (to the Doves) cause you came,” Lecrae told Franklin on Instagram. “You know I’m out.”

Franklin says he will “boycott any events affiliated with or for the Dove Awards, Gospel Music Association or TBN until tangible plans are put in place to protect and champion diversity, especially where people of color have contributed their gifts, talents, and finances to help build the viability of these institutions.”

Hundreds Of Christian Denominations Scramble To Recruit Kanye West — The Babylon Bee

U.S.—After Kanye West converted to Christianity, Christian denominations across the country immediately began scrambling to woo him over.

Kanye West says he’s been flooded with gift baskets, swag, and monetary offers from Christian denominations looking to get him to join their church.

The Baptists sent West a gift basket full of casseroles, while a local Reformed church sent him a 12-pack of craft beer. A charismatic congregation sent a representative to speak in tongues, while the Catholics sent a priest to exorcise his house and also offer him a gift basket of crackers and wine.

“I am keeping all my options open,” West told reporters. “My agent and I are looking through all the offers to see what the best deal is, what the greatest deal of all time is. Of all time.”

“We love you, Kanye! Come check out Cityriselife Church! We have free coffee and a complimentary mini donut for guests! Visit us this Sunday!” one desperate pastor replied to a Kanye post on Twitter. All of his Twitter replies were filled with similar posts, with pastors scrambling to offer him all kinds of swag to get him to join up.

Representatives for these denominations deny they are doing this for West’s tithing potential.

Benny Hinn and Kenneth Copeland have each offered West a private jet to come over to their side.

Mere days before lawyers for convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein were about to release his list of over 1,000 names of famous people who allegedly spent time in his infamous ‘Lolita Express’ jet and went to his island for sex with children, Epstein shockingly committed suicide in his prison cell. In an amazing twist of coincidence, the guards assigned to him disappeared, the security cameras suddenly stopped functioning, and this man sitting in a high-security cell died. Oh, he had also been taken off suicide watch even though he had tried to ‘commit suicide’ a week earlier. Kind of reminds you of the ‘jet plane’ that hit the Pentagon on 9/11, doesn’t it? Security cameras suddenly stop working at the moment of impact, no trace of a jet plane, explosion consistent with a guided missile, you get the idea.

As she screamed “you have stolen my dreams“, the American people forgot all about Jeffrey Epstein and his induction into the Clinton Body Count. Amazing how that works, isn’t it? And it works every time.

FROM FOX NEWS: The body of disgraced money man and sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, who was found dead in his Manhattan federal prison cell in August, bore telltale signs of homicide despite an official ruling that he killed himself, a pioneering forensic pathologist revealed to “Fox & Friends” in an exclusive interview Wednesday.

The bombshell claim by Dr. Michael Baden, a former New York City medical examiner who has worked on high-profile cases during a five-decade medical career, is certain to reignite suspicions that surfaced immediately after Epstein, who was awaiting trial on federal sex-trafficking charges involving underage girls, was discovered dead in his cell on Aug. 10. Baden, who was hired by Epstein’s brother and observed the autopsy, told Fox News its findings are more consistent with homicidal strangulation than suicidal hanging. He noted that the 66-year-old Epstein had two fractures on the left and right sides of his larynx, specifically the thyroid cartilage or Adam’s apple, as well as one fracture on the left hyoid bone above the Adam’s apple, Baden told Fox News.

“Those three fractures are extremely unusual in suicidal hangings and could occur much more commonly in homicidal strangulation,” Baden, who is also a Fox News contributor, said.

While there’s not enough information to be conclusive yet, the three fractures were “rare,” said Baden, who’s probed cases involving O.J. Simpson, President John F. Kennedy, Martin Luther King, record producer Phil Spector, New England Patriots star Aaron Hernandez and many others.

“I’ve not seen in 50 years where that occurred in a suicidal hanging case,” the 85-year-old medical legend told Fox News.

Baden, who’s examined more than 20,000 bodies and hosted HBO’s “Autopsy,” explained that if a person weighed 120 pounds and their head weighed 10 pounds, there would be 110 pounds of pressure on the neck at the jaw during a hanging. But, if someone put a hand around a person’s neck and squeezed, that could double or even triple the pressure on the neck, Baden said.

There were also hemorrhages in Epstein’s eyes that were common in homicidal strangulation and uncommon, though not unheard of, in suicidal hangings, the forensic pathologist said.

“The prominent hemorrhage in the soft tissues of the neck next to the fractures is evidence of a fresh neck compression that could have caused the death,” Baden said.

Jeffrey Epstein was found hanging in his prison cell at the high-security Metropolitan Correctional Center in Manhattan and was later declared dead, investigators said.

Prosecutors alleged that the previously convicted sex offender paid girls as young as 14 hundreds of dollars for massages before he molested them in his homes in New York and Palm Beach, Fla., between 2002 and 2005. He was awaiting trial in federal prison, thus federal agencies — presumably the FBI and Justice Department — had jurisdiction over the investigation into his death, Baden explained. READ MORE

Nikki Haley Criticizes Those In Trump Administration Undermining Him: ‘The President Was The Choice Of The People’ | The Daily Wire

Speaking at the annual dinner of the American Enterprise Institute, former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley criticized colleagues of hers in the Trump administration “who believed that the best thing to do for America was to undermine and obstruct the president,” asserting, “The president was the choice of the people, in accordance with our founding charter. No policy disagreement with him, no matter how heartfelt, justifies undermining the lawful authority that is vested in his office by the Constitution.”

Haley’s speech was redolent with praise for America’s role in the world and optimism for the future as she stated, “I want to start by saying I am optimistic about America’s future. I know that for those who spend too much time on Twitter, it may at times look like it’s all over for the American experiment. Depending on which cable network you prefer, there is a sense that things are coming off the rails in America today.”

She continued, “But America has survived a revolution, a foreign invasion, a civil war, a great depression, the largest war in world history, and social unrest of a dozen different stripes. And we’ve come out stronger after every test.”

Haley noted, “We have lots of people who are attempting to reject the very things that set America apart. This is a real problem. And it’s one we should strongly resist. Our history is being attacked as a lie. Influential voices on the left claim America was founded not in freedom, but in oppression. The idea that we must be in control of our borders is dismissed as uncaring bigotry. Some are attempting to redefine American citizenship itself.”

Haley countered those perspectives, recalling her experience at the U.N. and comparing the American experience to those from other countries:

What I saw cut through the loud and polarizing voices in our country. I saw what sets America apart — what we must protect and preserve. When you’ve heard a South Sudanese refugee woman tell you about watching soldiers throw her baby into a fire — When you’ve seen Venezuelan families walk for hours in the blazing sun to reach Colombia in order to receive the one meal they will have that day — When you’ve negotiated with representatives of a Chinese regime that is building a surveillance state that would horrify Orwell — When you’ve seen and done these things, you see just how profound the gifts are that we have received as Americans.

Haley quoted President Calvin Coolidge’s statement on the 150th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence: “Amid all the clash of conflicting interests, amid all the welter of partisan politics, every American can turn for solace and consolation to the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States.”

She continued:

That statement is just as fitting today. Equality before the law. Freedom. Inalienable rights. These are not abstractions. They are our inheritance as human beings. The Declaration of Independence outlined them. The Constitution established them as a system of government. It is these sacred principles that make me optimistic.

Haley decried those who would call upon America to relinquish its role as an advocate of freedom and human dignity abroad, saying bluntly:

A world without United States leadership does not mean a world in which our values and interests peacefully coexist with other countries. If it meant countries could live peacefully pursuing their interests, there would be more to recommend the United States retreating from the world. Instead, it means a world with Chinese values devoted to Chinese interests. It means a world with Russian values devoted to Russian interests. It means a world in which radical Islam runs rampant. That is a dark place for American values and a dangerous place for American security.

Haley challenged those who didn’t agree:

If you don’t believe me, I invite you to spend a day in the United Nations Security Council. Some of its most powerful members not only don’t share American values; they actively work to defeat them. We faced a choice: either sacrifice our values in an attempt to win friends at the UN, or defend our values and fight some fights virtually alone. Freedom and human dignity aren’t just the right values to promote; they are our most powerful foreign policy tools. Which is why we fought for them.

She noted, “On Israel, after a heartbreaking betrayal by the previous administration, we once again embraced our friend and ally. At the UN, Israel is the clearest example of this worldwide clash of values. The only fully democratic country in the Middle East is routinely demonized as an oppressor … If America does not lead the way in stopping this nonsense, no one else will.”

She concluded, “I believe in the American people’s ability to find our way through any challenge by honoring the beliefs that define us. There will always be work to do to be a more perfect union. But we will always do better if we acknowledge the truth that the world already knows about us: Even on our worst days, we are all blessed to be Americans.”

Death Toll Mounts As Syrian Army & Turkey Engage In Heavy Clashes On Border

In an intensifying situation which could mean major war between two state powers is on the horizon, Syrian state news agency SANA has reported “heavy” ongoing clashes between the Syrian Army and Turkish forces since Sunday. Turkish authorities also confirmed the clashes on Wednesday.

Fighting has centered around the northern Syrian town of Ras al-Ayn on the border with Turkey, which initially broke out last last week, resulting multiple reported deaths of Syrian troops, according to ReutersAt least six Syrian military personnel were reported killed by Turkish fire on Tuesday.

Underscoring the reality of a crowded battlefield with multiple actors, from which US forces just partially extricated themselves, both pro-Assad and Syrian Kurdish forces have come under Turkish attack. There’s also been fighting reported around Manbij.

Turkey’s military has accused the Kurdish YPG of launching attacks on its forces using mortars, drones and light weapons, which has resulted in at least five Turkish soldiers wounded.

Early this week multiple videos surfaced online via Syrian jihadist accounts showing Turkish-backed ‘rebel’ groups bragging about executing Syrian soldiers, as many as 20.

Clashes at Ras al-Ayn illustrate the scramble to secure territory by each side in the wake of US withdrawal from the border area — Kurdish YPG forces hold the town under Turkish assault, while Syrian troops have reportedly been invited in with agreement of Kurdish forces.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday Turkey’s vice president condemned the passage of a US House resolution and a bill passed in the US House the day prior, saying it’s “against the spirit of the Syria agreement” brokered with Mike Pence and backed by the White House.

The House voted overwhelmingly to pass a resolution recognizing the Armenian genocide which began in 1915, an extremely sensitive issue for Turkey, as well as to pass new biting economic sanctions over its Syria incursion – the latter which Trump is expected to reject.

What’s the Difference between Halloween, All Saints Day and All Souls Day? | Crosswalk

Once Fall is the air across the U.S., department stores will entice consumers with discounts on costumes and candy. There will be carved pumpkins and bobbing for apples at holiday parties. There will be hayrides, hot apple cider, gathering around bonfires with friends. Then, on the 31st of October, kids dressed in costumes will go door-to-door to trick-or-treat for candy. Some churches also participate in what is known as “trunk-or-treat,” where children visit the church parking lot in their costumes to get candy and perhaps learn about the church.

For some churches, the celebration doesn’t stop there. October 31 actually begins a three-day observance and celebration of Allhallowtide, a combination of Halloween, All Saints Day and All Souls Day. Where did these holidays come from? Is there a difference between them?

According to dictionary.com, the word “Halloween” is a “direct derivation of All Saints Day” with “All Hallows” in Old English meaning “the feast of the saints.” To hallow is “to make holy or sacred, to sanctify or consecrate, to venerate.” The adjective hallowed, as used in The Lord’s Prayer, means holy, consecrated, sacred, or revered. The noun hallow, as used in Hallowtide, is a synonym of the word saint. So, there are some differences between Halloween, All Saints Day and All Souls Day, however they are tied together.

It is important to keep in mind that All Saints Day is also known as All Hallows Day, Hallowmas or Feast of All Saints in the Christian Church. The day November 1 commemorates all the saints in the church both known and unknown who have attained heaven.

What Is All Hallow’s Eve?

Though the original roots of All Hallow’s Eve aren’t certain, it has been traced back to the countries of Ireland, Britain, and France. The Celts of Ireland, Britain and France divided their year in halves: the light half and the dark half. The light half consisted of the Spring and Summer months when the days were longer and the nights were shorter. The dark half was the opposite. It consisted of the Fall and Winter months with longer, colder nights and shorter days. To mark the end of Summer, the Celts held a harvest festival known as Samhain steeped in superstition and fear of evil. It is celebrated on the 31st of October beginning at sunset and ending at sunset on November 1.

This ancient Celtic pagan harvest festival Samhain was also associated with human death. The Druids built bonfires in order for the people to make sacrifices of crops and animals. Those who participated in the festival would dance around a bonfire. Some of the dances were a representation of the circle of life and death. The Celts also believed that on the night before the new year, the boundary between the worlds of the dead and living became blurred. It was believed that fairies and ghosts of the dead could freely return to earth. It was believed these spirits could hide livestock, haunt the living and destroy their crops. For this reason, they concealed their real identities from the spirits through the use of costumes made from animal skins and heads.

Following the Roman conquest of Britain, British Celts adopted the Julian calendar and fixed the date of Samhain’s observance to November 1.

The holiday was Christianized as Halloween by the early church. Over time, it has evolved into a day of activities like making jack-o-lanterns from pumpkins, bobbing for apples, trick-or-treating and other festivities. In other countries as well as in Catholicism, one attends church services. Some Christians also abstain from meat, eating vegetarian foods including potato pancakes, apples and soul cakes.

What Is All Saints Day?

Around 609 A.D., Pope Boniface IV reconsecrated the Pantheon in Rome. He renamed it the Church of St. Mary and the Martyrs. He established the anniversary as a day of celebratory remembrance for all of the Church’s martyrs. Later, Pope Gregory III changed to date to November 1 during the dedication of St. Peter’s Basilica to “all saints,” in an effort to combat pagan worship.

November 1 became All Saints Day, otherwise known as All Hallow’s Day. Christians would come together on this day to ask for God’s protection from evil in the world as well as blessings. Patrons would dress up in costumes of evil spirits or saints in order to depict the battle between good and evil.

What Is All Souls Day?

All Souls Day commemorates the faithful departed. This day is observed in the Catholic Church as well as the Eastern Orthodox churches. Roman Catholics believe that the souls of the faithful who at death have not been cleansed from their sins and punishment could not attain heaven and are instead sent to purgatory. It was believed, based on certain books of the Catholic Bible, that these trapped sous could be helped by prayer. They could then be cleansed of their sins and receive full sanctification to gain entrance to heaven. The custom of setting apart this day for intercession was established by Saint Odilio of Cluny. This practice then spread throughout Europe and eventually to the Western Church.

As Christianity spread throughout the world, pagan holidays were either Christianized or forgotten. Samhain was absorbed into Halloween. Costumes and gifts and bobbing for apples were preserved, incorporated into the new holiday. They remain a celebrated part of Halloween to this day, many centuries later.

What Does the Bible Say about the Dead?

Now that you’ve been given a detailed history about the accounts of these three holidays, it’s important to keep in mind that the Bible doesn’t tell us to pray to saints (Matt 6:6), there is no discussion or evidence of purgatory, and we cannot pray our departed loved ones into heaven. The doctrine of purgatory is not a scriptural concept. We do, however, see much discussion in God’s Word about the only two destinations for those who have died: Heaven and Hell.

However we can turn to the Bible and allow the Holy Spirit to use the Word to spur our faithfulness. Hebrews 11 gives examples about the cloud of witnesses whose lives left a legacy of God’s grace and speak to us about our future in heaven with Christ.

Dr. Cyril Wecht joined Kennedy on FOX Business Network in August to discuss Jeffrey autopsy results.

Dr. Wecht, who is a doctor and lawyer, told Kennedy a Montreal study found only 2 of 239 hanging death resulted in a broken Hyoid bone — or less than 1% of those killed.

Top US inmate and convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein suffered broken bones in his neck and a broken Hyoid bone that is more common in strangulation deaths.

Wecht added that every prisoner in the MCC on his floor should be questioned about his death.

On Thursday Dr. Mark Siegel told Bulls and Bears on FOX Business Network that the hyoid bone might break in strangulation about one-third to one-half of the time. In suicide, hanging, it might break 6-10% of the time.

The state of New York later said Epstein’s death was a suicide.

On Wednesday morning famed pathologist Dr. Michael Baden went on FOX and Friends where he said evidence points to homicide over suicide in Epstein’s prison death.

Dr. Baden also pointed to the three broken neck bones were “very unusual of suicide and more indicative of homicide strangulation.

Dr. Baden was hired by the pedophile’s family to observe the autopsy.

California Has the Nation’s Worst Poverty Rate, New Census Data Shows | ZeroHedge News

The US Census Bureau released new poverty data this month, and California once again has the nation’s highest poverty rate, according to the “Supplemental Poverty Measure.”

According to the SPM, California’s poverty rate in 2018 was 18.1 percent, followed by Louisiana with 16.5 percent, and Florida, with 16.2 percent.

The states with the lowest poverty rates per the period were Iowa at 6.7 percent, Minnesota at 7 percent, and Kansas at 7.8 percent.

The 2018 report shows a slight general decline in poverty rates throughout the nation in recent years. According to the 2015 report, for example, California’s poverty rate was over twenty percent, and the state with the lowest poverty rate — Minnesota — was at eight percent.

The SPM measure contrasts with the old “official” poverty measure developed in the 1960s. The old measure tends to apply a blanket standard for poverty nationwide, but the SPM takes into account local housing costs and also ” extends the official poverty measure by taking account of many of the government programs designed to assist low-income families and individuals.”

Using the old measure, California ranks considerably better, because, of course, nominal incomes in California are considerably higher than in rural states and many other regions with much lower costs of living. Poverty rates in places like Mississippi, Louisiana, and New Mexico tend to be driven by low worker productivity, low-education levels, local corruption, and unfriendly business environments. But, the cost of living in these areas also tends to be relatively low, mitigating the effects of lower incomes.

The situation is different in California where relatively high wages are often negated by very high living costs. And not surprisingly, California often dominates lists of the least-affordable housing markets in the United States.

Homelessness

The homelessness data coming out of California is also among the worst.

When it comes to homeless persons as a percentage of the overall population, California is the fourth-worst in the nation, behind only New York, Hawaii, and Oregon. 0.33% of California’s population (or 33 people per 10,000) is estimated to be homeless on any given night, according to the Point-In-Time survey of homelessness.

And while California is not the worst in terms of the proportion of the population that is homeless, the state is among the worst in delivering state services designed to lessen homelessness overall. Among the top-ten states with the highest percentage of homeless, California has the highest number of unsheltered homeless.1 Nearly 69 percent of the homeless population in California is estimated to be on the street. Massachusetts, by contrast, provides shelter to over 95 percent of its homeless population. Unsheltered homeless are also far less likely to receive treatment for mental illness or urgent health issues.

Some may note, of course, that Calfornia’s warm weather, makes it easier for the homeless to be unsheltered. This is no doubt a factor, but if we look at Florida’s homeless population, we find that 43 percent of the homeless population in that state is unsheltered — a difference of 25 percentage points. It appears unlikely that a warm climate is the only factor.

The importance of housing costs to the issue of homelessness is made more clear when we note that chronic homelessness is only a fraction of the total homeless population. It is sometimes suggested that the cost of housing is a not a significant factor in homelessness because most homeless persons — it is claimed — are mentally ill persons incapable of paying even a small rental fee.

The truth, however, is that in most cases, well over two-thirds of the homeless population is temporarily homeless. Many of these are families, many of whom have been evicted from housing due to missed rent payments, lost jobs, and other temporary situations. These events are made far worse and longer lasting by high rents and high housing prices. In California, for instance, only 26 percent of the homeless are chronically homeless. Most homeless people are people engaged in a search for permanent housing.

Thanks to numerous land use, environmental, zoning, and building code restrictions imposed on builders in California, however, the cost of living remains extremely high in the state. The tax burden is among the highest in the nation, putting many middle-class earners far closer to the poverty line in case of temporary job loss. Even non-housing costs are well above most other states.

California may be the land of Silicon Valley billionaires, but thanks to the state’s regulatory environment, the prosperity is rarely felt by people of more ordinary means. Wealthy residents don’t want their views obstructed, and they don’t want to have to look at low-cost housing on their drives to work. So, they work to ensure that government regulations minimize new housing construction, thus further driving up housing prices and rents. New housing construction isn’t keeping up with population growth.

High taxes are a burden on the middle and lower-middle classes. Regulations make it harder to start and sustain a business.

Nor surprisingly, the result is a state with the highest poverty rate in the nation and the nation’s fourth-largest homeless population per capita.

Why the Cost of Living Matters

Although the SPM measure of poverty clearly provides a broader measure of poverty incorporating both social programs and housing prices into calculations, many leftwing columnists insist on using the older poverty rate measure — while ignoring the homelessness data — because the older measure makes states like California look better.

For example, wealthy investor Ken Fisher, writing in USA Today, claimed last year that the “poorest states have Republican legislatures, and richest have Democratic ones.” He writes:

“Eighteen of the 19 poorest states have legislatures where both chambers are Republican controlled. New Mexico (46th richest, fifth poorest) is Democratic. But there isn’t another blue or purple state until you get to purple Maine… But all five richest states have both legislative chambers controlled by Democrats – Maryland, New Jersey, Hawaii, Massachusetts and Connecticut. Overall, Democrats dominate the 20 richest states.”

Fisher was using rankings published earlier by USA Today, which relied heavily on the old poverty rate measure, and which used nominal median incomes not adjusted to local cost of living factors. If we do make that adjustment, things look very different.

Fisher’s analysis thus relies almost totally on nominal income numbers, and ignores how expensive it is to live in places like New York and California.

For most regular people, however, leaving California may be the best thing one can do to increase one’s real income and have a chance at a life that doesn’t involve working long hours to afford a fixer-upper that costs half-a-million dollars. 

There is, after all, a reason California is exporting its poor to places like Texas.

Trump rips Nancy Pelosi and endorses Kevin McCarthy for speaker at House GOP fundraiser | CNBC

President Donald Trump laid into House Speaker Nancy Pelosi in front of a crowd of top GOP donors and House Republicans during a fundraiser Tuesday night in Washington, D.C.

At the event, which took place at the Trump International Hotel, the president ripped Pelosi as she heads an impeachment inquiry against him. The focus of the investigation is based on a phone call Trump had with Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky in early 2019. During that conversation, Trump asked Zelensky to look into former Vice President Joe Biden, his chief political rival, and his son Hunter.

“We need to win back the House to retire Nancy once and for all,” Trump told the attendees, according to one of the organizers. This person declined to be named.

Of the almost 315 donors that attended, each have contributed over $35,000 to House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy’s joint fundraising committee, Take Back the House 2020. Over 115 GOP House members were expected to be in attendance.

McCarthy introduced the president. The gathering raised $13 million for a committee that will used to give a boost to Republicans in the next round of congressional elections.

Political analysts, such as Larry Sabato’s Crystal Ball, show at least 12 Democratic House seats are considered toss-ups in the 2020 election cycle, while only five for Republicans.

The affinity between House Republicans and Trump was evident in another moment last night when the president endorsed the California lawmaker to be the next speaker of the House. Trump, according to this attendee, said he’s fully behind McCarthy for speaker and called him “tough, loyal, and smart.”

The president also praised Rep. Devin Nunes, R-Calif., as a “great warrior.” Nunes is the ranking member of the House Intelligence Committee that’s taking the lead in the impeachment inquiry. He’s been a vocal opponent of the investigation since it was announced in September.

Trump also took aim at President Barack Obama for his handling of the captivity of two Americans: Kayla Mueller, who was killed by Islamic State fighters, and Otto Warmbier, who was arrested in North Korea and died after arriving back to the United States in vegetative state.

On the foreign policy front, Trump brought up the death of Abu Hassan al Muhajir, the ISIS spokesman that had recently been killed in Syria.

The observer at the party noted that Trump “joked that the strike killing Abu Hasan al-Muhajir was so effective and powerful that tires from the truck he was traveling in ended up six miles away.”

The Trump campaign declined to comment and the White House did not return a request for comment. A political spokesman for McCarthy confirmed the amount of attendees and fundraising totals for the night but declined to comment further. Representatives for Pelosi did not return a request for comment.

It is currently testing the top of this 20-year channel at (2). This area also happens to be the 261% Fibonacci price extension level of the 2007 highs and 2009 lows.

Is anyone telling the truth in today’s news? How to detect media bias — Denison Forum

Politicians frequently rail against the news media, but rarely has the criticism been as harsh as it is today. President Donald Trump has made little effort to conceal his contempt for the press, calling unfavorable stories “fake news” and the mainstream media “the enemy of the people.”

Research reveals that most Americans’ trust in the news media has declined, and conservatives and evangelicals show a marked lack of trust. But it would be a mistake to attribute the recent drop to any one institution, individual or event. “The conservative skepticism of the media runs deep,” CNN’s S.E. Cupp wrote. “Believe me, President Donald Trump didn’t invent it.”

Digital innovations have revolutionized the way the media distributes and people consume the news, often with unforeseen consequences.

“This has created confusion for users who are looking at ‘news’ on their phones — often sharing it blindly with their networks without knowing the source or where it came from,” said Jennifer Preston, Knight Foundation vice president for journalism. “It has also destroyed the traditional business model that has long supported the production of local journalism and news, leaving many people with fewer reliable local sources. At the same time, it has produced myriad opportunities for engagement — in fact, digital and mobile technologies are essential to engagement in the 21st century.”

The better you understand how the media landscape has changed, the better equipped you will be to separate the wheat from the chaff in this information age.

Growing public mistrust in the news

Fifty years ago, many medium-sized towns had two newspapers, one in the morning and one in the evening, as their main sources of local news. There were three major television networks, ABC, CBS, and NBC, with local affiliates, plus radio stations up and down the dial. For beautiful pictures or perspective on the news, people read weekly magazines such as Life and Time. With relatively few sources of news, most media outlets aimed to reach a broad audience with objective reporting.

But Vice President Spiro Agnew said too much power was concentrated in “a small and unelected elite” at the television networks and major newspapers such as the New York Times and the Washington Post. In two speeches in 1969 and 1970, Agnew said that they “allow their biases to influence the selection and presentation of the news.”

He immediately struck a chord with the public, particularly in his criticism of the networks. “The vast majority of the American people agreed 100 percent with us,” Pat Buchanan, who wrote the speeches as a member of the Nixon White House, told PBS. “The networks were inundated with telegrams denouncing their bias.”

Later, of course, the media exposed the Watergate scandal—a reminder of the need for an independent press—but public mistrust of the news media has grown since then.

A Knight Foundation and Gallup poll released last year found that 69 percent of adults—and 95 percent of conservatives—said their trust in the media had declined in the past decade. Although almost 70 percent of Americans said their trust could be regained, more than one-third of conservatives said it had been permanently lost.

And a Pew Research Center report released in September found that evangelicals lagged 10-15 percentage points behind the average adult in their trust of journalists. Of course, Christians believe in absolute truth; journalists, in their quest for fairness, have to tell both sides of a story, or even all sides of a complicated one.

“There is a mutual suspicion between secular journalists or secular newspapers and faith-based readers,” said Tim Morgan, director of the Journalism Certificate Program at Wheaton College and a former senior editor at Christianity Today. “Although church attendance has gone down, there are still many people who have a Christian worldview. Journalism attracts a lot of people, agnostics, atheists, and others who are not interested in religion. Religion is treated like a sideshow at the major papers.”

Americans trust local media over national

In the fifty years since Agnew first targeted liberal bias in the news media, the internet and social media have threatened to make newspapers extinct.

Not only has most advertising migrated online, information is often outdated by the time print newspapers are delivered. And many of the unique features that newspapers could provide, such as box scores, stock tables and movie listings, are now available on the internet.

Penny Abernathy, a journalism professor at the University of North Carolina and the author of the 2018 report “The Expanding News Deserts,” said that about 2,100 newspapers, the vast majority of them weeklies, have closed in the past fifteen years. Staff cuts have become the norm at metropolitan newspapers, and some have folded or cut the number of days a week that they publish. Giants such as the Washington Post, owned by Amazon billionaire Jeff Bezos, and the New York Times remain prosperous.

Interestingly, studies have shown that Americans have more trust in their local sources of news, primarily television stations and these endangered newspapers, than the national media.

“We now have what amounts to the biblical Tower of Babel: Hundreds of thousands, if not millions of news sources, many of which are simply repeating whatever they think might get readers or viewers to click,” Mathew Ingram, an expert on the news and technology, wrote in Fortune. “The click economy has driven even traditional, mainstream media outlets to focus on quick hits and ‘viral’ stories, even if they have little truth to them.”

Is objectivity possible?

In today’s 24-7 news cycle, more information is available, faster than ever before, but accuracy, complexity, and objectivity have suffered. The line between news and advertising, once as sacred in many secular newsrooms as the separation of church and state, has blurred because of new financial realities.

RealClearPolitics executive editor Carl Cannon, discussing public disenchantment with the news media, told Hill.TV, “What people hold against us is that we pretend to be objective and we aren’t. This is a big systemic problem. This exists in a business environment where the old AP [Associated Press] just-the-facts model doesn’t necessarily sell. You have a fiduciary responsibility to your publisher to be outlandish.”

In the digital age, anyone can be a reporter, with no formal training or ethical guidelines or editor to serve as a filter. Mistakes spread over social media, and sensational stories tend to get shared more often.

Against this backdrop, journalists struggle with ethical questions. At a meeting in August, New York Times staffers discussed whether it’s best to use words like “racist” or “lie” or just describe the behavior behind them and let readers decide for themselves. “The best way to capture a remark, like the kinds of remarks the president makes, is to use them, to lay it out in perspective,” Times Executive Editor Dean Baquet said. “That is much more powerful than the use of a word.”

Journalists have reevaluated traditional ideas of objectivity in the Trump era. “The belief that objectivity required giving equal weight to differing points of view began to erode,” former Times Executive Editor Jill Abramson wrote in her book, Merchants of Truth. “The ‘on the one hand, on the other’ style of reporting did damage by creating a false equivalency of arguments, especially when Trump was purposefully undermining the truth.”

The Washington Post runs a feature called “Fact Checker,” an “ongoing database of the false or misleading claims made by President Trump since assuming office.” Fact Checker also recently called out House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff for making a “flat-out false” statement on MSNBC.

Politicians vs. journalists vs. the public

Tension between politicians and the media is nothing new, but the public has been an unfortunate casualty of these wars of words.

“I complained plenty about Fox News — but you never heard me threaten to shut them down, or call them enemies of the people,” Barack Obama said in a speech before the 2018 mid-term elections. However, the Obama administration excluded Fox from interviews and a spokesperson told the New York Times, “We’re going to treat them the way we would treat an opponent. As they are undertaking a war against Barack Obama and the White House, we don’t need to pretend that this is the way that legitimate news organizations behave.”

Viewers tend to pick the TV networks that match their political biases, e.g., Fox for conservatives and MSNBC for liberals.

“Often they aren’t even reporting the same stories,” Nebraska Sen. Ben Sasse wrote in his book Them: Why We Hate Each Other—and How to Heal. “When they do, the coverage is so different that it is hard to believe they are describing the same set of facts.”

Most thoughtful journalists admit it’s impossible to avoid bias completely, if only in choosing which stories to cover and which facts to include.

How to detect bias in the news

But if you want to be well-informed, be wary of signs of bias in the news.

For example, does a news outlet interview people on both sides of a political story, Democrats and Republicans?

Do journalists make conclusions without facts to back them up?

Is a journalist’s choice of words a subtle indication of bias?

The Media Awareness Network, in a handout called “How to Detect Bias in the News,” noted that terms like terrorist and freedom fighter could be used to describe the same person, depending on your perspective.

Reporters usually don’t write the headlines on their stories or determine where they are played. Does the headline match the story, or does it seem sensationalized to grab your attention?

Do media outlets tend to put negative stories on the front page of the newspaper or website or near the top of a newscast? Journalists tend to emphasize the negative, figuring that most of the time when something positive happens, it’s expected and not news.

Ask questions like these, and don’t just follow the news on media outlets that agree with you. Be open to new ideas. That way, you’ll be able to thoughtfully take positions on the issues of the day.

FOX News legal expert and author Gregg Jarrett joined Trump-hater Neil Cavuto Wednesday morning on FOX Business Network.

Cavuto invited Jarrett on to promote his latest best seller, “Witch Hunt, The Story of the Greatest Mass Delusion in American Political History”, and to pepper him with questions on the latest Trump witch hunt.

Gregg Jarrett had this to say on the latest Democrat Party attempt to impeach the US president,

Gregg Jarrett: “In my recent column I call Adam Schiff sort of the “poor man’s Harry Houdini, an illusionist with cheap parlor tricks.” He’s trying to fool Americans that opinion is evidence and facts are not. The facts are contained in the transcript and the statement of the two participants in the transcript, Zelensky and Trump. There’s no quid pro quo, no pressure, no demand…

Neil Cavuto: (interrupting) But now there are people who believe that the transcript was maybe not entirely accurate?

Gregg Jarrett: Yeah, so if you have an auto accident with 20 witnesses, then you are going to have 20 versions of it. So Lt. Colonel Vindman says, “Well, that’s not how I remember the conversation.”

Cavuto: But he was listening in on the call.

Jarrett: Yeah, he was but he’s offering his interpretation. He’s saying I didn’t think it was proper. That’s an opinion. Opinion is not fact. Facts are stated in the transcript itself. And somebody came up to me in the train station and said, “I read this transcript. What’s wrong with it?” And that’s the fundamental question…

Neil Cavuto: Is your whole thing that if you fail with Mueller, you’re going to fail with this, Democrats?

Gregg Jarrett: I actually think this is twice as ludicrous as the original Trump-Russia collusion hoax and witch hunt.

Cavuto did not like to hear that. The rest of the interview was Cavuto trashing Trump and Jarrett sounding rational and calm as he refuted every attack.

ANALYSIS: Wall Street Journal reveals what Southwestern and Southern Baptist elites want — Capstone Report

A Wall Street Journal story on Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary shocks by revealing what is really happening at the seminary: betraying principle in pursuit of enrollment and dollars.

SBC elites pushing narrative of generational change and resistance to Donald Trump, but the evidence suggest young evangelicals remain conservative despite the efforts of the ERLC, Russell Moore.

When the Wall Street Journal writes about the Southern Baptist Convention it is worth reading. A story by Ian Lovett made news in two ways: It reveals the priorities of the new administration of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and it reveals how desperate SBC elites are to promote the idea that young evangelicals are drifting away from conservative politics. Both items are revealing and, sadly, dangerous.

First, the new administration wants to turn the seminary from its conservative roots into a bland culture-pleasing corporation. According to the new president, “My immediate predecessor envisioned this being more like Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show,” he said in an interview. “I want people to think more like Southwest Airlines. A happy place. A national brand.”

A national brand.

And what’s a national brand best at? Harvesting dollars from the public.

Oh, but the venal motives become clearer as you read the story. Declining enrollment sparked a crisis and the school is reaching out to women with a change in emphasis. According to the WSJ report,

“Dr. Patterson’s dramatic exit convulsed the Southern Baptist Convention, turning the school into a nexus of the continuing debate over women’s role in the church.

“Karen Swallow Prior, a Southern Baptist professor at Liberty University, said Dr. Patterson’s ouster was a step toward changing ‘the misogynistic, sexist culture of the SBC.’ She added that there is “’a dramatic shift” among younger evangelicals who are more eager “to embrace the idea of women as leaders, both in the church and in the culture.’”

And the WSJ makes it clear, that the move is already paying off for Southwestern and the new administration. It reports,

“New enrollment this fall is up 33% over the previous three years. One of the new students is Jacki King, a minister to women at her Arkansas church who transferred to Southwestern this year. She said the shifting tone on gender is what drew her.”

And that’s the whole point. Not to put too fine a point on it, but enrollment=dollars. That’s the future of your SBC seminaries. Only, this pragmatism won’t work out so well. It never does. It will come with consequences. Every compromise does.

Don’t miss the politics in the WSJ story. It is always about Donald Trump for evangelical elites who despise the president.

The Wall Street Journal article revealed the underlying political spin coming out of elite evangelicalism. The elites don’t like Donald Trump, so evangelicalism must change. The way it will change is that the youth provide the future. And that hope was repeated in the WSJ article:

“While older evangelicals have become a political force preaching traditional values, younger ones are deviating from their parents on issues like same-sex marriage, Israel, the role of women, and support for President Trump.”

Only, that’s not what is really happening. The data shows the opposite.

Young evangelicals seem to behave a lot like older evangelicals. Even Vox published an essay on this topic. Under the helpful title: “Younger evangelicals look an awful lot like older evangelicals post-2016: Despite some interesting recent anecdotes, surveys show young evangelicals to be much more conservative than others of their generation.”

Bible believing Christians don’t vote Democrat. And that is despite Russell Moore’s best efforts to undermine Donald Trump and the Republican Party.

Even on same-sex marriage, the data shows something far more complex at work. The authors of the Vox essay explain that young evangelicals are shifting on same-sex marriage, but, “Young evangelicals are much more conservative on same-sex marriage than other young voters.”

They suggest cultural change is driving this and not theology.

This may in fact be true. However, it might be time for conservative evangelicals to question if the embrace of libertarian principles is driving this trend. Has conservative commitment to the individual and markets gone too far and encouraged this shifting view of something as fundamental as the family? And, isn’t this shifting view dangerous for not only society but the orthodoxy of the church?

On the other issues, such as Israel, evangelical professors are doing their best to encourage the anti-Semitic BDS movement, but so far, that hasn’t manifested itself in changes for how evangelicals view the state of Israel or most foreign policy issues.

As for the role of women, that is a theological and not political issue. However, even the most confused on the matter like SBC president J.D. Greear who insanely tweeted about tearing down all hierarchy, doesn’t think women should hold the role of pastor.

Which shows most of this emphasis on women as leaders in the SBC is more about rhetoric than actually handing over power. It is an attempt to preserve power not share it.

In the end, the SBC’s elites are trying to compromise on politics and are making it clear they are sort-of compromising on the place and role of women. And doing all of this in the pursuit of dollars and numbers.

At This Critical Point In Our History Americans Must Stand with Our President, Country and Constitution! — The Gateway Pundit

Not since the great Civil War has our country stared down the face of treason and sedition to the extent we are today.  After the first Republican President, Abraham Lincoln, won the election, the Democrats broke from the country and our Constitution and started their own country so they could continue to enslave Americans.

Today we face a similar fate as Democrats bit by bit destroy our great country’s traditions, policies and Constitution, in an effort to overthrow another great American Republican President, Donald J. Trump.

Bit by bit the Democrat Party, the prior Obama Administration holdovers, the corrupt members of the Deep State and their corrupt and dishonest media are destroying the country we love!   Their criminal investigations and the corrupt actions of these characters are the opposite of what we stand for.

America stands for freedom and justice for all.  The Constitution provided Americans the Bill of Rights, and the Declaration of Independence avowed –

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.–That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, –That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness.

What the Democrats, the Deep State and their media are doing, is destroying the country and the Constitution that we love.  With Schiff’s sham impeachment of President Trump, the Constitution is under attack.

Representative Lee Zeldin described the sham today –

This is not the first sham investigation President Trump and Americans have faced.  We just stumbled away from the sham Mueller investigation, again created by Democrats and promoted by corrupt and criminal actors in their Deep State and media.

For three years candidate and then President Trump was under investigation, surveillance and attack.  Multiple criminal actions, including set ups of the President’s team and false crimes were propagated.  They attempted to take him down, have him removed and impeached based on false crimes, but they underestimated President Trump’s strength, courage and resolve.  To hell with the Deep State.

We put together a list of over 130 times the FBI, DOJ and/or the Mueller gang “Deviated from Standard Practice” or committed crimes in efforts to exonerate Hillary and indict President Trump.

The Deep State goons who go after President Trump do not care about policies and precedents, the law or the Constitution.

In both the Mueller investigation and the Schiff Sham there are no crimes that the President committed, only make believe crimes promoted by the corrupt media.  ‘Collusion’ was not a crime and neither is ‘interference with an election’, the current charge against the President.

Attorney David Rivkin and professor Elizabeth Price Foley point out that President Trump has committed no crime in regards to his actions with the Ukraine –

The effort has another problem: There is no evidence on the public record that Mr. Trump has committed an impeachable offense. The Constitution permits impeachment only for “treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors.” The Founders considered allowing impeachment on the broader grounds of “maladministration,” “neglect of duty” and “mal-practice,” but they rejected these reasons for fear of giving too much power to Congress. The phrase “high crimes and misdemeanors” includes abuses of power that do not constitute violations of criminal statutes. But its scope is limited.

Abuse of power encompasses two distinct types of behavior. First, the president can abuse his power by purporting to exercise authority not given to him by the Constitution or properly delegated by Congress—say, by imposing a new tax without congressional approval or establishing a presidential “court” to punish his opponents. Second, the president can abuse power by failing to carry out a constitutional duty—such as systematically refusing to enforce laws he disfavors. The president cannot legitimately be impeached for lawfully exercising his constitutional power.

Applying these standards to the behavior triggering current calls for impeachment, it is apparent that Mr. Trump has neither committed a crime nor abused his power. One theory is that by asking Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to investigate Kyiv’s involvement in the 2016 U.S. presidential election and potential corruption by Joe Biden and his son Hunter was unlawful “interference with an election.” There is no such crime in the federal criminal code (the same is true of “collusion”). Election-related offenses involve specific actions such as voting by aliens, fraudulent voting, buying votes and interfering with access to the polls. None of these apply here.

In American law you are not allowed to coach witnesses or prevent them from answering questions, which the Schiff Sham now allows.

Americans have the right to due process, the right to confront their accusers and the right to call witnesses that will help their case.  The Schiff Sham allows none of this.

We have never had courts with two sets of juries – one set of jurors who are able to call and interrogate witnesses and another who can only sit and listen.  The Schiff Sham does.

The Schiff Sham is a total abuse of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.  The precedents that this sham puts in place, like the Mueller sham, are destructive and against the American rule of law and the Constitution.

If the Democrats, the elites, the Deep State, the NeverTrumpers and their corrupt media believe that good Americans will allow this Schiff Sham to continue as it is, they are grossly mistaken.  Good Americans have a boiling point and this sham is it!

We will fight for justice and the rule of law.

We will stand up and fight for our President, our country and our blessed Constitution!

The Great Thanksgiving

But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. (15:57)

Because of Jesus’ perfect obedience to the law (Rom. 5:19) and the satisfaction He made for its victims, those who trust in Him “are not under law, but under grace,” having “been released from the Law” (Rom. 6:14; 7:6). Jesus has both fulfilled the law and fulfilled righteousness. Because His life was sinless and therefore fulfilled the law, His death conquered sin.

Paul gives thanks to the One who will give us the great transformation of our bodies and who has made the great triumph over sin and death. That which we could never do for ourselves God has done for us through our Lord Jesus Christ. We cannot live sinlessly and thereby fulfill the law, nor can we remove sin once we have committed it, or remove its consequence, which is death. But on our behalf Jesus Christ lived a sinless life, fulfilling the law; removed our sin by Himself paying the penalty for it, satisfying God with a perfect sacrifice; and conquered death by being raised from the dead. All of that great victory He accomplished for us and gives to us. “Christ redeemed us from the curse of the Law, having become a curse for us” (Gal. 3:13). He took our curse and our condemnation and gives us victory in their place.

How can we do anything but thank and praise God for what He has done for us? He has promised us an imperishable, glorious, powerful, and spiritual body for one that is perishable, dishonorable, weak, and natural. He promises us the heavenly in exchange for the earthly, the immortal in exchange for the mortal. We know these promises are assured because He has already given us victory over sin and death.

For Christians death has no more power (Heb. 2:14–15), because God has taken away our sin. For Christians death is but the passing of our spirits from this life to the next, the leaving of earth and going to be with Christ. Paul had only one reason for wanting to remain on earth: to continue his ministry for Christ on behalf of others. But for his own benefit and joy he had but one desire: “to depart and be with Christ, for that is very much better” (Phil. 1:23–24).

In Christ’s victory over death, death’s sting is removed; it is declawed, defanged, disarmed, destroyed. “And death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire, … and He shall wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there shall no longer be any death; there shall no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain” (Rev. 20:14; 21:4).[1]


57 Thus, not only has the sting of death (sin) been removed, but also the power of sin (the law) has lost its grip—all through the death and resurrection of Jesus. This is the message that Paul triumphs in v. 57: “Thanks be to God,” who has given us the victory through what he accomplished in Jesus Christ. It is Christ, and Christ alone, who has achieved the victory.[2]


57 As just noted, this final doxology first of all expresses gratitude that God through “our Lord Jesus Christ” presently gives his people victory over sin and the law, which lead to death. At the same time, however, it embraces the entire argument, especially as it climaxes in this paragraph. Thus, Paul exults in God’s victory over death through resurrection (v. 55) and now in the conquest of the sin that leads to that death (v. 57). As at the beginning (vv. 3–5), so at the conclusion, Christ is the one through whom God has wrought this triumph.[3]


57. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Paul’s jubilation is an appropriate climax to his lengthy discourse on the resurrection. In this climax he expresses his gratitude to God for the victory obtained through Jesus Christ. The key word in this verse is the term victory, which echoes the Old Testament quotations in the previous verses (v. 54–55).

What is this victory? Jesus died because of our sins and conquered death for us by rising from the grave. Through his death, he set us free from the bondage of sin and declared us righteous before God. On the basis of his resurrection and glorification, we look forward to being like him. By faith in Christ, we share his victory over Satan, death, hell, and the grave (compare 1 John 5:4). Conclusively, our risen Lord triumphantly holds the keys of death and Hades (Rev. 1:18).

While serving Christ, Paul repeatedly faced death. Even though he knows that death is still a powerful force on earth, he is absolutely certain that Jesus Christ has conquered death. Hence, he writes “God … gives us the victory.” Paul uses the present tense; that is, God keeps on giving us the victory in Christ. We may appropriate Jesus’ triumph and rejoice in the riches of salvation that are ours.

Paul clearly states that God gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. He notes first the work that Christ performed to set us free; next, he identifies Jesus as our Lord. We acknowledge him as our Lord and in gratitude serve him without distraction by doing his will. Christ is our victorious Lord and we are his grateful servants.[4]
