November 16 Pruning the Branches

Scripture Reading: John 15:5–8

Key Verse: John 15:2

Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit.

Have you ever felt like God was removing things from your life? As if the trials and circumstances you were experiencing have made it necessary for you to reduce your priorities to a manageable minimum?

In the classic devotional by L. B. Cowman, Streams in the Desert, there is recorded a simple but poignant poem that asks the question, “Why must this lot of life be mine?” The answer: “Because God knows what plans for me shall blossom in eternity.”

God knows what opportunities await you. And He is preparing you so that His glory can truly shine through you. First, however, He must remove what is unnecessary. In John 15:2, He promised, “Every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit.” Understand that trials are never evidence that God has abandoned you. On the contrary, they suggest that God is molding you for great things ahead.

He has a place of service that is suited perfectly for you. However, He must first develop your trust in Him. Then you will see a great harvest and experience the joy of having the Lord work through you.

Thank You, Lord, that You have a place of service suited perfectly for me. Develop my trust in You. Prune the branches of my life, and then work through me.[1]

November 16 When the Timing Is Right

Scripture Reading: Acts 16:1–15

Key Verse: Acts 16:9

A vision appeared to Paul in the night. A man of Macedonia stood and pleaded with him, saying, “Come over to Macedonia and help us.”

Paul spent a lot of time seeking God’s guidance for his missionary journeys. In Acts 16 after revisiting the churches at Derbe, Lystra, Iconium, and Pisidian Antioch, Paul decided to continue westward to Ephesus. However, God stopped him. Scripture tells us he was “forbidden by the Holy Spirit to speak the word in Asia” (Acts 16:6 nasb).

This change had to be disappointing to Paul, who was prepared to go into a city that was in deep spiritual need. No one knows why God stopped Paul, but thanks to Luke we have a record of what happened next. Rather than becoming sullen, Paul turned northwest to the borders of then Asian territory, hoping to evangelize the cities of Bithynia. However, he was stopped once again. Therefore, Paul passed through the region and turned toward Troas. At any point, Paul could have resisted the Spirit of God and forcibly preached the gospel. However, his message would have been empty and without the power of the Holy Spirit.

In Troas, Paul had a vision that God wanted him to go to Macedonia. Because of his obedience, the gospel spread throughout Europe and later the Western world. Perhaps God is calling you to stop or wait before you make the next move. You think all looks perfect; Paul did too. Only God knows what lies ahead. Refuse to make a move until He says the timing is right.

Father, only You know what lies ahead on this road I travel. I don’t want to make a move until the timing is right. Help me watch for the stop as well as the go signs.[1]

November 16 Strength in Weakness

Scripture reading: Job 23:8–10

Key verse: Psalm 66:12

You have caused men to ride over our heads;

We went through fire and through water;

But You brought us out to rich fulfillment.

He knew he was a poor speaker. He always got so nervous standing up before a crowd that his voice quivered, his face flushed red, and he could barely remember what to say. When his manager asked him to give a product demonstration to some potential clients, he was less than thrilled. He was too embarrassed to decline the opportunity, and everyone was counting on him.

The night before his talk, he knelt beside his desk chair to pray and give the problem to God: “Dear Lord, You know that I am weak in this area. Like Moses, I don’t even want to try to speak before important people, but I’m trusting You for the strength and ability. Father, show Your power tomorrow through me. Give me the words. Fill me with Your calm and peace, and guide my every syllable. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

The next morning when he began the presentation, he could feel the Lord answering his prayer. He spoke slowly and distinctly, and his voice didn’t shake once. After it was over, a colleague gave him a slap on the back in approval. The man replied, “Hey, it wasn’t me—God handled this one.”

That is the truth of 2 Corinthians 12:10 in action: “Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong.”

Dear Lord, in my weaknesses today, demonstrate Your strength. Help me remember that when I am weak, You are strong.[1]

‘Far-Left’ Turns on Obama Over His Call for Democrats to Be More Moderate, #TooFarLeft Trends on Twitter — The Gateway Pundit

The “far-left” is not too pleased with former President Barack Obama after he called for the party to be more moderate during a fundraising meeting with donors on Friday night.

By Saturday morning, #TooFarLeft was trending in the top spot on Twitter as Democratic Socialists and more progressive members of the party mocked his comment.

“Even as we push the envelope and we are bold in our vision, we also have to be rooted in reality,” Obama said at the meeting, according to a report from The New York Times. “The average American doesn’t think we have to completely tear down the system and remake it.”

Obama cited healthcare and immigration as issues where certain 2020 Democrats may be taking things too far.

Among those who took offense to the comment was former Hillary Clinton aide Peter Daou, who began using the #TooFarLeft hashtag to talk about progressive policies that he supports.

“CONFESSION: I’m #TooFarLeft because I want kids to be safe in school. I’m #TooFarLeft because I want people to live in dignity. I’m #TooFarLeft because I seek justice and equality. I’m #TooFarLeft because I think healthcare and housing are human rights,” Daou tweeted.

The tweet quickly went semi-viral, with over 3,000 retweets and 10,000 likes in just four hours.

Other Twitter users copied the model and began snarkily tweeting their issues with Obama’s statement.

Republicans also began using the hashtag to talk about how Democrats ARE too far left.

The Free Money Bubble Is About To Burst | ZeroHedge News

Authored by Michael Pento via SafeHaven.com,

Recently, there has been a parade of central bankers along with their lackeys on Wall Street coming on the financial news networks and desperately trying to convince investors that there are no bubbles extant in the world today. Indeed, the Fed sees no economic or market imbalances anywhere that should give perma-bulls cause for concern. You can listen to Jerome Powell’s upbeat assessment of the situation in his own words during the latest FOMC press conference here. The Fed Chair did, however, manage to acknowledge that corporate debt levels are in fact a bit on the high side. But he added that “we have been monitoring it carefully and taken appropriate steps.” By taking appropriate steps to reduce debt levels Powell must mean slashing interest rates and going back into QE. The problem with that strategy being that is exactly what caused the debt binge and overleveraged condition of corporations in the first place.

Global central banks have abrogated the free market and are in the practice of repealing the business cycle and ensuring stocks are in a permanent bull market. Massive and unrelenting money printing is the “tool” that they use. The good old USA had its central bank cut rates to 0 percent by the end of 2008 to combat the Great Recession; and that paved the way for the EU to join the free-money parade by 2016. In fact, the Band of Japan had already been at the zero-bound range years before. This means much of the developed world has been giving money away gratis for the better part of a decade.

And now central banks actually want you to believe that multiple years’ worth of global ZIRP has somehow left asset prices devoid of any significant distortions. All is normal here, or so we are told. So, I thought it would be prudent to shed some light on a few of those glaring imbalances that should be obvious to all except a debased central banker. To be blind to them screams of incompetence or mendacity–or both.

  • Forty percent of Europe’s investment grade corporate debt offers a negative yield and there are at this time $15 trillion worth of sovereign debt globally with a negative yield as well.
  • The valuation of equities in the U.S. is now for the first time ever 1.5 times its phony and free-money-goosed GDP.
  • Yet, at the same time S&P 500 margins and earnings are shrinking.
  • The U.S. has increased its business debt by 60 percent since the Great Recession–it now totals $16 trillion, which is an all-time high in nominal terms and as a percent of GDP.
  • Much of this debt has been used to buy back stock and reduce share counts to boost EPS. Corporate buybacks, which were illegal in the U.S. before 1982, will breach $1 trillion this year. As far as the Fed is concerned, issuing a record amount of debt to buy back stocks at record high valuations is just fine.

According to the BIS, 12 percent of businesses in the developed world have become zombies–having to issue new debt just to pay the interest on existing debt—this figure is also at a record. The average interest rate on the U.S. 10-year Treasury Note prior to the Great Recession was about 7 percent. Today, this rate is a lowly 1.8 percent.

It appears central banks are completely oblivious to the global bond bubble even though they are its very progenitor. For further examples, back in the European debt crisis of 2012, the borrowing costs for the insolvent countries known as the PIIGS (Portugal, Ireland, Italy, Greece, and Spain) shot up to the thermosphere. The Greek 10-year Note hit a yield of 40 percent and caused the economy to crash under the weight of its mountain of debt and skyrocketing servicing costs. This led to an explicit and partial debt default of its obligations and a humongous European Central Bank bond-buying program that promised “to do whatever it takes” to bring down yields. The Greek 10-year yield is now just 1.6 percent, even though the country’s National debt to GDP ratio has actually increased from 159 percent in 2012, to just under 200 percent today. How can this be? The answer is, Greek debt is once again in a gargantuan bubble, but this time around it is now and forever on the life support of ECB counterfeiting. It is the same story in Portugal. Its 10-year Note yield shot up to an untenable 16 percent in 2012. But through the magic of the printing press it is now just under 0.25 percent. As incredible as that rate is, it exists even though Portugal’s National debt to GDP ratio is still over 120 percent; just about the same level it was back in 2012 when the market caused its rate to skyrocket.

The U.S. deficit increased by 26 percent y/y and is now $1 trillion per annum. The annual deficits are projected by the CBO to be at least $1.2 trillion for the next decade. That is, if everything goes perfectly fine in the economy and rates stay at historic lows–and there is never another recession. For Mr. Powell and company, all this is viewed as being completely normal.

In addition, history has proved throughout the centuries that once an economy has more than a 90 percent total debt to GDP ratio, its economic growth becomes impaired. The total in the U.S. is now 330 percent, in the EU it is 450 percent, and Japan has over 600 percent total debt to GDP. How did the entire developed world become so debt-disabled? The answer is simple: artificial interest rates provided by central banks have incentivized, facilitated and enabled governments to issue massive amounts of debt with impunity. Again, according to central bankers there is nothing to see here.

These are just a  few of the many examples of market distortions arising from central banks artificially pushing yields into the sub-basement of history. Now they have destroyed the market-based pricing of fixed income and equities across the globe. These markets have now become wards of the state forever and ever amen.

The sad truth is that the entire artificial and tenuous construct of markets is predicated on interest rates that perpetually fall and never increase. As long as this baneful dynamic is in place, asset bubbles grow bigger, and debt levels rise. Thus, making the economy increasingly more dependent on lower and lower interest rates. The problem is most central banks have already arrived at the zero-bound range and/or are in various stages of QE. Even the horrific Fed only has one and half percentage points from running out of ammo to reduce borrowing costs and is already printing $60 billion per month in QE. And yes, that is exactly what it should be called. Hence, when (not if) the next economic contraction begins, money markets will once again freeze and the record number of zombie companies will begin laying off millions of employees as a result of being shut out of the credit market. Then, the global bubble in junk corporate debt will crater and cause panic in equity markets like never before in history.

According to the Fed and the deep-state on Wall Street, all is completely normal.

The China stock bubble burst 12 years ago, and the Shanghai exchange is still down 50 percent from that high. Japan’s bubble burst 30 years ago, and investors are still down 40 percent. Global central banks have set the table for a record implosion of markets and the major U.S. averages are by far the most overvalued. This is why it is imperative to model the dynamics in credit markets to ensure you can participate in the upside of stocks while the charade lasts. But most importantly, also avoid getting slaughtered like a passively managed pigeon once interest rates spike and the global credit bubble finally bursts.

November 16, 2019 Afternoon Verse Of The Day

19:5 obey me fully and keep my covenant … you will be my treasured possession. By describing the covenant as “my covenant,” God indicates that he alone determines the conditions. This is not, as some scholars suggest, a reference to a previously existing covenant. After reminding the Israelites of what he has already done for them, God graciously invites them to become his “treasured possession.” The Hebrew term for “treasured possession” is used elsewhere in the Old Testament to describe treasure prized by a king (1 Chron. 29:3; Eccles. 2:8). Unlike Pharaoh, God does not impose his authority on the Israelites against their wishes. The people are at liberty to reject God’s invitation, for it requires exclusive loyalty; they must be prepared to obey God fully. While this is a demanding requirement, these former slaves are promised a wonderful prospect.[1]

19:5 — “Now therefore, if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be a special treasure to Me above all people; for all the earth is Mine.”

What an amazing thing to be called the “special treasure” of God! Obedience always brings blessing, and far more than we can imagine.[2]

19:5 a treasured possession The Hebrew term used here, segullah, refers to both inanimate objects and servants as personal property (Eccl 2:8; 1 Chr 29:3). In ancient Near Eastern covenant-legal literature, the term used here sometimes describes those in covenant with a deity—a context reflected here.

all the earth is mine Though all the earth and its nations belong to Yahweh, Gen 11:1–9 describes God disinheriting the nations of the world. After the Babel event, God turned the nations over to lesser gods (Deut 32:8–9; compare Deut 4:19–20). In the next divine act recorded in the ot, He called Abram and promised him a line of descendants that culminated in the sons of Jacob—the 12 tribes of Israel—who now stand before Him at Sinai.[3]

19:5 obey my voice and keep my covenant. Terms summarizing the proper human response to God’s gracious covenant (Gen. 17:2 note). The latter phrase (Gen. 17:9, 10; 1 Kin. 11:11; Ps. 78:10; 103:18; 132:12; Ezek. 17:14) always refers to fidelity to a previously revealed covenant. Since 6:4 has referred to the Exodus as the fulfillment of the patriarchal covenant, the revelation at Sinai must also be seen as an extension of the Abrahamic covenant.

treasured possession. As the following clause shows, God means that Israel will be His personal treasure within what is more generally owned (1 Chr. 29:3). Israel is separated by God’s election from the world that belongs to Him.[4]

19:5 The Lord wanted Israel to be known by what he had done as well as by what they would do. My own possession uses a word that is sometimes translated “treasure.” David used it to speak of his “personal treasures of gold and silver” that he had set aside for building the Lord’s temple (1Ch 29:3). In extrabiblical literature a king sometimes used a closely related word to speak positively of a vassal with whom he had a good relationship and where a king advertised himself on his royal seal as the treasured possession of a certain god.[5]

5. Now, therefore. God declares that He will ever be the same, and will constantly persevere (in blessing them), provided the Israelites do not degenerate, but remain devoted to their Deliverer; at the same time, He reminds them also, wherefore He has been so bountiful to them, viz., that they may continually aspire unto the end of their calling; for He had not willed to perform toward them a single act of liberality, but to purchase them as His peculiar, people. This privilege he sets before them in the word סגלה, segullah, which means all things most precious, whatever, in fact, is deposited in a treasury; although the word “peculium,” a peculiar possession, by which the old interpreter has rendered it, is not unsuitable to the passage; because it is plain from the immediate context, that it denotes the separation of this people from all others; since these words directly follow: “for,” or, although “all the earth is mine;” the particle כי, ki, being often taken adversatively, and there is no doubt but that God would more exalt His grace, by comparing this one nation with the whole world, as it is said in the song of Moses, “When the Most High divided to the nations their inheritance, when he separated the sons of Adam, he set the bounds of the people according to the number of the children of Israel; for the Lord’s portion is his people; Jacob is the lot of his inheritance.” (Deut. 32:8.) The sum then is, that whilst the whole earth is in God’s dominion, yet the race of Israel has been chosen by Him to excel all nations. Whence it is evident, that whereas the condition of all is alike, some are not distinguished from others by nature, but by gratuitous adoption; but, in order that they should abide in the possession of so great a blessing, fidelity towards God is required on their part. And, first, they are commanded to listen to his voice, (since no sacrifice is more pleasing to him than obedience, 1 Sam. 15:22;) and then a definition of obedience is added, viz., to keep His covenant.[6]

Ver. 5.—Now therefore. Instead of asking the simple question—“Will ye promise to obey me and keep my covenant?”—God graciously entices the Israelites to their own advantage by a most loving promise. If they will agree to obey his voice, and accept and keep his covenant, then they shall be to him a peculiar treasure (segullah)—a precious possession to be esteemed highly and carefully guarded from all that might injure it. (Compare Ps. 135:4; and see also Is. 43:1–4.) And this preciousness they shall not share with others on equal terms, but enjoy exclusively—it shall be theirs above all people. No other nation on the earth shall hold the position which they shall hold, or be equally precious in God’s sight. All the earth is his; and so all nations are his in a certain sense. But this shall not interfere with the special Israelite prerogative—they alone shall be his “peculiar people” (Deut. 14:2).[7]

Obama Left An Ambassador to Die, But We’re Supposed to be Outraged Over Trump’s Yovanovitch Tweet? — Christian Research Network

But what really gets me is how it’s been almost seven years since Barack Obama left one of his ambassadors to die in a terrorist attack on a U.S. consulate, and the same people who defended the Obama administration endlessly over that, are feigning outrage over Trump’s tweet expressing his opinion. Democrats have been crying “impeach!” over everything for years, and now every time Trump expresses an opinion, we’re hearing “intimidation.”

(Matt Margolis – PJ Media)  On Friday, as former Ambassador Maria Yovanovitch was testifying, President Trump made a series of tweets criticizing her performance as ambassador, which got Democrats so triggered, his tweets were read soon after they were made, and the narrative presented was that the tweet was witness intimidation.

“Everywhere Marie Yovanovitch went turned bad,” Trump tweeted. “She started off in Somalia, how did that go? Then fast forward to Ukraine, where the new Ukrainian President spoke unfavorably about her in my second phone call with him. It is a U.S. President’s absolute right to appoint ambassadors.”

“They call it ‘serving at the pleasure of the President,’” Trump continued. “The U.S. now has a very strong and powerful foreign policy, much different than proceeding administrations. It is called, quite simply, America First!” Trump also noted that he’s done far more for Ukraine than his predecessor than Obama. View article →

Assad likens ‘suicide’ of White Helmets founder to EPSTEIN & other high-profile mystery deaths | RT World News

Syrian President Bashar Assad has scorned the official story of wealthy sex predator Jeffrey Epstein’s apparent suicide, suggesting that people like him, or the late White Helmets founder, knew too much for the rich and powerful.

Epstein “was killed because he knew a lot of vital secrets connected with very important people in the British and American regimes, and possibly in other countries as well,” Assad told Russian channel Rossiya-24 in an interview Thursday.

Assad suggested that the convicted sex offender’s death was analogous to the unusual demise earlier this week of White Helmets founder James Le Mesurier, who allegedly jumped out of a window at his home in Turkey. Turkish police are treating Le Mesurier’s death as suicide.

They turned into a burden once they had played out their roles. A dire need to do away with them surfaced after they had fulfilled their roles.

‘Epstein didn’t kill himself’ is a FASCIST recruiting tool, establishment cries after meme goes mainstream in Congress

Assad was referring not just to Epstein and Le Mesurier, but also to Al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden – originally trained by the CIA to fight the Soviet Union in Afghanistan – and Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, who spent time in American custody in the notorious Camp Bucca and Abu Ghraib prisons in Iraq. All these “had been killed chiefly because they knew major secrets,” the Syrian leader argued.

While Epstein’s death was officially declared a suicide, celebrity medical examiner Michael Baden threw a wrench into the machine when he declared that the deceased pedophile’s broken hyoid bones likely came from strangulation. Le Mesurier’s death, tentatively ruled a suicide, proved too suspicious for Assad, who believes it is the “work of the secret services.”

Possibly, the founder of the White Helmets had been working on his memoirs and on the biography of his life, and this was unacceptable. This is an assumption, but a very serious one, since other options don’t sound convincing to me at the moment.

Leaked OPCW memo casts doubt on watchdog’s Douma ‘chemical attack’ conclusions

Le Mesurier was tagged as a “former agent of MI6” by the Russian Foreign Ministry just three days before his death, with “connections to terrorist groups” in Kosovo. His White Helmets group, Assad said, “are naturally part of Al-Qaeda” and have been caught staging “gas attacks” such as the phony event in Douma, used by the US as rationale for a strike on Damascus.

Epstein’s own links with intelligence agencies have been subject to much speculation, especially after Alex Acosta, the former Florida prosecutor who sentenced Epstein to an open-door prison sentence of just 13 months despite allegations he’d trafficked and abused dozens of girls, said he was told to “leave it alone” because Epstein “belonged to intelligence.” Former Israeli military intel officer Ari Ben-Menashe has claimed Epstein worked with Israeli intelligence as well, introduced to the business through his “girlfriend” Ghislaine Maxwell’s father Robert – a known Mossad agent.

Self-described ‘moderate Republican’ Obama tells Democrats not to wade TOO FAR LEFT, or else… | RT USA News

Who’s that guy telling the Democratic Party to be conservative about what they wish for from their next president? Wait, isn’t that Barack ‘Yes, we can’ Obama, the media darling that led the country before Trump ‘ruined it all?’

The cold shower poured on Friday by the former US president in front of a room full of wealthy donors in Washington was obviously directed at Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren, the progressive contenders in the Democratic primary race. The two senators have proposed a number of policies to radically change the way America functions economically and politically – for the benefit of the common people.

But according to Obama, Democratic voters don’t really want a candidate that would “completely tear down the system and remake it.”

There are a lot of persuadable voters and there are a lot of Democrats out there who just want to see things make sense. They just don’t want to see crazy stuff. They want to see things a little more fair, they want to see things a little more just. And how we approach that I think will be important.

Yep, the guy who got elected on a message of hope that America could achieve its dreams is now telling it to be rooted in reality. The bold vision that the party nominee should offer to the divided nation should presumably involve “a little less bankruptcies over medical bills, a little fewer ICE raids on immigrants and a lot less concerns from the corporate elites about their sustained profits in the foreseeable future.” Yes, we can!

Of course, the hope for change that Obama evoked on the campaign trail was in contrast to his actual policies. And frankly, the gauge that shows how left would be too far left in modern America is quite off. The president himself admitted that in the 1980s he would be considered a moderate Republican.

It’s no surprise that his advice to a moderate-right party that pretends to be left is to play center. After all, they both have the same constituency to answer to, and don’t mistake it for the regular voters. Democrats may put forward a candidate that cannot always remember Obama’s name or which state he is currently speaking in. Or a latecomer billionaire with a habit of flip-flopping between parties. Even a top-tier candidate” with single digits in the polls will do.

‘Arrogance of billionaires’: Bernie Sanders slams Michael Bloomberg’s potential run without campaigning in key states

But a candidate supported by a genuine public movement who dares to threaten the super-rich is a no-go, regardless of how electable he or she actually is. Even Donald Trump’s second term would apparently be deemed better by the blue establishment.
