The War Crimes of Obama and Hillary Clinton: Libya, Syria and Yemen – Global Research – Centre for Research on Globalization

“The crimes of the United States have been systematic, constant, vicious, remorseless, but very few people have actually talked about them. You have to hand it to America. It has exercised a quite clinical manipulation of power worldwide while masquerading as a force for universal good.” (Harold Pinter, Nobel Prize speech 2005)(1)

Many people thought that US President Obama, who was in power from 2009 – 2017, would be a huge improvement over President Bush when it came to foreign policy. They believed that he would be far less militaristic. However, this view was somewhat naïve. US Presidents from the Democratic Party have historically been involved in many wars, and Obama virtually boasted of bombing 7 countries.(2) He ordered a new bombing campaign in Iraq, extended the Afghan war into Pakistan, destroyed Libya, and sent US forces to fight in Yemen, Somalia and Syria. He also openly assassinated people, including US citizens, using pilotless drones. Not only is this a serious crime, but for each person deliberately killed, it is estimated that, on average, somewhere between ten and fifty innocent bystanders were also killed.(3)

Some readers will be aware of a sequence of events beginning in 2011 that were called the ‘Arab Spring’, where populations in the Middle East protested against their governments. These events highlight a number of the points that we have already explored. There were large-scale protests in Tunisia, Egypt, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, but these regimes have historically been supported by the US, so the US has not provided assistance to the protestors in these countries,(4) despite the fact that these countries have very poor human rights records. Various commentators have noted that British and US journalists misleadingly use the term ‘moderate arab states’ when they are describing some of the most extreme religious governments, such as Saudi Arabia and Egypt.(5)

However, Libya under Colonel Gadaffi, and Syria under Bashar al-Assad, were considered to be official US enemies, so the US, Britain, France and other countries have supported the protestors there. It is important to be aware that events in these two countries are rather different from events in other ‘Arab Spring’ countries. Elsewhere, the protests have mostly been ordinary people engaging in protest. In Syria and Libya, eyewitness accounts indicate that many of the ‘protestors’ have been extremists (in other words, terrorists) who have been much more violent.(6)

Libya

The US and their allies flew 26,000 sorties to drop bombs on Libya in 2011. The actions of US and British bombers, and the terrorists supported by the West, have led to “mass death, ethnic cleansing, mass displacement for millions of Libyans, and the destruction of the entire country.”(7) The US and Britain claimed that the reason for their involvement was humanitarian intervention, to avert a massacre, but this was yet another lie. An investigation in Parliament in the UK in 2016 showed that there was no evidence that a massacre would have taken place.(8) The US and Britain created other propaganda to generate support for the invasion. They claimed that Gaddafi was giving Viagra to his troops to encourage mass rape, but there was again no evidence for this.(9)

Wikileaks obtained over 250,000 documents about Libya,(10) and 10% of them referred to oil. Gadaffi had been concerned for a number of years that foreign oil companies had too much control over Libya’s oil, and was intending to change that. Wikileaks’ release of US Secretary-of-State Hillary Clinton’s e-mails has also provided good evidence about the real motives for French involvement in the military attacks on Libya. They show that the French President, Sarkozy, was motivated to support the war for the following reasons(11):

1) Access to Libyan oil reserves

2) For French firms to be rewarded with contracts

3) To ensure French influence in the region and to prevent Gaddafi’s influence in French-speaking parts of Africa. In particular, to stop the creation of an African currency that would replace the dominant French franc, and would help to unify Africa.

4) To increase Sarkozy’s reputation domestically

5) To assert French military power

Further emails indicate that a US motive for the war was to boost President Obama’s approval rating. The emails make it clear that the US government understood that overthrowing Gaddafi was likely to strengthen terrorist organisations in the region. They also understood that the people in Libya who were trying to overthrow Gaddafi were not moderate opponents, but were themselves terrorists committing widespread atrocities. There is one final issue that the emails highlight. Gaddafi’s son was actually trying to negotiate a peaceful resolution, but Hillary Clinton was not interested. Quite clearly, overthrowing Gadaffi in order to control resources, particularly oil, was the goal from the beginning.(12) The US government actively pursued another criminal war.(13)

The mainstream media have completely failed to acknowledge the importance of Gadaffi’s role in Africa. He introduced communications technology to Africa that gave the whole continent the opportunity to do telephone, television, radio and long-distance teaching without having to pay enormous fees to Europe.(14) He was trying to set up an African Monetary Fund, and African Banks, so that African countries could fund their development independently, without being exploited by the French or the Americans. The creation of an African currency (point 3 above) to replace the French currency that had effectively strangled development in much of Africa for many years, would be an enormously positive step. He intended that African oil would be traded in the new currency, displacing the US dollar.(15) The US considered this to be a serious threat to their ability to exploit the continent.(16)

It is worth noting that the quality of life in countries that the US attacks is often higher than most people realise (before the US start bombing.) The UN Human Development Index, which measures health, education and income, ranked Libya first in the whole of Africa before 2011.(17) Similarly, the standard of living in Iraq before the US began destroying the country in the early 1990s was close to the standard of living in advanced nations.(18)

Syria

In an article written in 2007, officials from the US admitted that they had worked with Saudi Arabia and Israel to create a ‘militant front of extremists’ (in other words, an army of terrorists) for the sole purpose of causing the destabilisation of Syria, with the aim of overthrowing the government.(19) This terrorist army has been supplied with huge quantities of weapons by the governments involved. The US spy agency, the CIA, has been training and arming thousands of terrorists, at a cost of $1 billion per year. Syria is an example of what is known as a ‘proxy’ war, where the US and British governments do not use their own soldiers in large numbers. Instead they provide support for other groups who do most of the fighting. However, they do use their air force to fire missiles and drop bombs. The exact details of who was doing what in Syria are complex, with different parts of the US government disagreeing with each other, and policy being changed repeatedly. The US attempt to overthrow Assad has failed, partly because the Russian government intervened to help the Syrian government from 2015 onwards. Over 400,000 people have died since 2011(20) and parts of Syria are now in chaos. US sanctions are making the situation worse.

The British government originally claimed that its military was not involved in Syria, but British pilots were ‘loaned’ to the Canadian air force so that they could participate in attacks. By 2017 there were over 1,000 British military personnel in Syria and “the government reported that RAF operations in Syria far outstripped the intensity of the UK’s operations in Iraq and Afghanistan”.(21) The British government also had an important propaganda role in Syria, where they funded citizen journalists to promote the UK’s strategic interests in Syria and the Middle East.(22) Many of these journalists in Syria had no idea that they were actually doing propaganda for the UK.

In order to justify their involvement in Syria, the US claimed that Assad was using chemical weapons. However, the evidence indicates that the chemical weapons were actually planted by the terrorists, to create a false justification for the US’s involvement. Chemical weapons are inspected by an organisation called the OPCW (Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons) but whistleblowers have come forward to explain that the OPCW has been politically corrupted and that their reports are misleading.(23) This story should be as important as the lies about Weapons of Mass Destruction that were used to justify destroying Iraq, but it has been almost entirely covered-up by the mainstream media. In fact, the media have gone further than simply covering this up. Where critics of the US and British governments have talked about the OPCW whistleblowers, the media have deliberately tried to discredit those critics.(24)

Yemen

Since 2015, the US, Britain and France have provided huge quantities of weapons to Saudi Arabia, which has used them to destroy Yemen. The three countries also provide logistical support, surveillance, and political cover – that is, they block the United Nations from investigating.(25) By 2016, 3 million people had been displaced. Out of a population of 27 million, 21 million needed aid. 58 hospitals had been deliberately destroyed and civilians had been targeted. Saudi Arabia blocked medicines from reaching affected areas and there is widespread malnutrition stunting the growth of children.

Whilst the Saudi Arabian government is doing most of the fighting, it is important to note that if the US, Britain and France stopped supplying weapons and maintaining equipment, the war would almost certainly end. Weapons companies from all three countries make big profits from this war. The details of who is fighting whom, and why, is quite complex in Yemen. The main point for this post is that Britain and the US are actively participating in serious war crimes, because they wish to retain Saudi Arabia as an ally. The British government repeatedly misled parliament over their role in Yemen. British people only became aware that British soldiers were operating in Yemen after newspapers reported that members of the SBS (Special Boat Squadron) had been killed.(26)

As with Afghanistan and Iraq, Libya and Yemen are now in chaos. Parts of Syria are also in chaos, although the Syrian government has regained control of some of the country with the help of the Russian military.

Fitting the Historical Pattern

The wars described in the last two posts are all separate events, but four of them (Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya and Syria) are easier to understand if we think of them as examples of an overall attempt by the US to control resources and trade, by overthrowing governments that were not sufficiently compliant. These countries had problems that were caused or made worse by a long history of outside interference.  Our politicians and the media presented the one-size-fits-all warplan of Taliban/Saddam/Gaddafi/Assad bad; US and British white knights must ride to the rescue to make Afghanistan/Iraq/Libya/Syria safe for democracy. The false justifications for each war were repeated without adequate scrutiny by the mainstream media. The true motives for war were rarely mentioned. The result is multiple failed states, whole cities destroyed by US bombing, chaos and lawlessness in much of the region, with violence and terrorism spilling over into neighbouring countries.

These actions enable us to see through the lies of the US and British governments. Both governments frequently claim that they have a ‘responsibility to protect’ others (this is known as R2P) but their support for Saudi Arabia’s destruction of Yemen, and their supplies of weapons to terrorists in Libya and Syria, show that they have no genuine interest in protecting others. International polls show that outside the US and Britain, most people recognise the US as the biggest global threat to peace.(27)

There are many other US crimes this century that could have been discussed in these posts. They supported the attempted coup in Venezuela in 2002, and again in 2019. They invaded Haiti in 2004 and overthrew the government. They were involved in overthrowing the democratically elected leader of Honduras in 2009. They were secretly involved in fighting alongside the Ethiopian military when it invaded Somalia in 2006, and they have been killing people there ever since, leaving yet another country in chaos.

Mission accomplished: Media hid Trump wins, Biden scandals from voters | OneNewsNow

Joe Biden & Donald TrumpThe mainstream media and Big Tech tried their best to hide bad news about Joe Biden and good news about Donald Trump before Election Day, and it appears to have worked just as planned.

Curtis Houck of Media Research Center says the media watchdog surveyed Biden supporters to gauge their news knowledge on three Biden scandals and five Trump campaign successes.

“Eighty-two percent of voters in these states – Biden voters in particular – were unaware of at least one of these stories,” he tells One News Now.

MRC used The Polling Company to interview 1,750 Biden voters in Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin, CNS News reported.

Among the examples, Biden voters said they were unaware of the Hunter Biden scandals involving Ukraine and China, Tara Reade’s rape allegations, and Kamala Harris’ famously liberal voting record.

The same voters said they were unaware of the booming Trump economy, which bounced back during the pandemic, and had no idea about the historic Middle East peace deals or the speedily-produced coronavirus vaccine.

“Seventeen percent of voters said that if they were told of either Trump successes or Biden/Harris scandals,” Houck tells One News Now, “they would have changed their vote.”

Had that have happened, Houck suggests we might not be in the middle of lawsuits and recounts right now. That is because MRC examined the poll findings and looked at battleground state results.

“In every case, with the exception of Nevada,” he advises, “it would have netted the president more than enough votes to put him almost 200,000 votes up.”

In other words, Houck adds, the national media that is currently reporting about Joe Biden’s dogs Major and Champ, and now a new cat, stole the election from American voters. That crime is just as bad, he insists, as dead voters casting ballots and doctored election software.

WATCH: First Look at This Year’s White House Christmas Decorations – Faithwire

First lady Melania Trump unveiled this year’s White House Christmas decorations in a video posted to social media Monday.

The theme for this year’s decor is “America the Beautiful.” In a tweet, President Donald Trump’s wife said her design is intended to “pay tribute to the majesty of our great nation.”

“Over the past four years, I have had the honor to travel to some of our nation’s most beautiful landmarks and meet some of the most compassionate and patriotic American citizens,” Melania Trump said in a statement. “From coast to coast, the bond that all Americans share is an appreciation for our traditions, values, and history, which were the inspiration behind the decorations this year.”

“Thank you to all the staff and volunteers who worked to make sure the People’s House was ready for the holiday season,” she added. “Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and a happy and healthy New Year.”

The decorations in the White House Library commemorate this year’s 100th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment, granting women the right to vote.

Other rooms in the White House are decorated with toy planes, trains, and automobiles, a recognition of “our monumental triumphs in innovation and technology,” according to The Hill.

The Red Room is specifically decorated to celebrate America’s first responders and front-line workers amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

America’s New Normal – Silent, Obedient Consent | Zero Hedge

“…a myriad of problems which conspired to corrupt your reason and rob you of your common sense. Fear got the best of you and in your panic, you turned to the now High Chancellor Adam Sutler. He promised you order… And all he demanded in return was your silent, obedient consent…”

Authored by Jim Quinn via The Burning Platform blog,

Yesterday we took advantage of another beautiful Fall day in Cape May. We decided to check out the Cape May Lighthouse State Park. It is at the very end of Cape May. It is an example of what the government can do right – Preserve a natural habitat without glitz or commercialization. It is just miles of wetlands and walking trails. The lighthouse, built in 1859 by the U.S. Army is still functioning today. Two previous lighthouses succumbed to the sea. It is a majestic structure, reaching 157 feet into the sky

On the beach, not far from the lighthouse, is Battery 223. It is a crumbling concrete structure from World War II which was designed to protect against invasion by German forces. The structure was built with six-foot thick reinforced concrete walls and a thick blast proof roof; the entire building was covered with earth. The 6-inch guns had a nine-mile range. It is an interesting relic from our past. The dilapidated condition struck me as symbolic of our crumbling empire.

Once you walked into the nature preserve, a feeling of calm and peacefulness overwhelms you. Swans and ducks glide across the salt water ponds enjoying a feast of minnows. It’s nature at its most pristine. Just quiet and beauty.

The walking trails wind throughout the nature preserve. They are well maintained and pristine. No trash. No beer bottles strewn about. Visitors are respectful of this place. A feeling of calm engulfs you as you venture along the trails.

But, alas, I couldn’t write a post without acknowledging the human reality I witnessed walking along these trails on a stunningly beautiful sunny 58 degree day in late November. The four of us were unmasked, because masks don’t work and certainly aren’t necessary outside while walking.

As we were driving to the park, I noticed a few bike riders on the side of the road wearing masks while biking. I thought to myself – WTF. That is completely idiotic. Then we began walking along the miles of trails. The park was moderately busy, but you passed someone every few minutes.

Sadly, I would estimate that 80% of the people we passed on the trails were masked and fearful of us unmasked hooligans. I can only imagine their thoughts as they wondered why we were risking their lives by being so careless.

I was disgusted by the lack of critical thought exhibited by these people. I might have understood if it was only people over 70 years old wearing the masks, but most of these people were young. They have virtually a zero risk of dying from this flu. They have virtually a zero risk of catching it on a walking trail at a State park. But, they obediently and silently do as they are told by their overlords.

I am saddened by how easily the totalitarians have been able to use fear, propaganda, lies and misinformation to turn the vast majority of Americans into compliant sheep. It is so clear to me that this engineered flu panic is nothing more than another chapter in the scheme to enslave global populations under the thumb of global elitist billionaires who want to control us and enrich themselves.

V’s speech to the citizens of London captures the essence of what is happening and will happen unless the masses come to their senses.

“Well certainly there are those who are more responsible than others, and they will be held accountable. But again, truth be told…if you’re looking for the guilty, you need only look into a mirror.

I know why you did it. I know you were afraid. Who wouldn’t be? War. Terror. Disease. There were a myriad of problems which conspired to corrupt your reason and rob you of your common sense. Fear got the best of you and in your panic, you turned to the now High Chancellor Adam Sutler. He promised you order. He promised you peace. And all he demanded in return was your silent, obedient consent.

V speech to London, V for Vendetta

These thoughts did not ruin my day, but they are constantly bubbling below the surface as I observe the downward spiral of this country. Hopefully, the Cape May Lighthouse beacon will represent the shining light of truth that will help us avert a historical shipwreck of epic proportions.

America’s Future Is Liberal Fascism Sporting A Smiley Shirt And Armed With A Syringe | Zero Hedge

Today, America’s famous battle cry – “give me liberty or give me death” – has been replaced by a masked and muffled gasp that advises, without hope of a second opinion, “give me lockdowns and keep me safe”…

Authored by Robert Bridge via The Strategic Culture Foundation,

The globalists responsible for engineering a medical tyranny across much of the Western world have something valuable to teach right-wing nationalists and would-be fascists, and that is you don’t sell your damaged product out of the barrel of a machine gun, but rather dripping from the end of a syringe that promises to end all pain and misery.

Patrick Henry, one of America’s more outspoken Founding Fathers, famously remarked “give me liberty or give me death” when the life of his nation was on the line.

Today, America’s famous battle cry has been replaced by a masked and muffled gasp that advises, without hope of a second opinion, “give me lockdowns and keep me safe.”

So terrified is the American public of catching a virus that comes with a 99 percent survival rate that they are willing to forego Thanksgiving, the great national holiday commemorating – with no loss of irony – their Pilgrim ancestors’ collective courage to overcome the wild, hostile conditions of their new land.

It must be said that no fascist party has ever been so adept when it came to sealing the collective fate of their people to a common enemy. That’s because the threat facing mankind today, or so we are told, is not some nefarious ideology, like communism, or even a terrorist organization that the masses can be rallied to fight. Rather, the threat is a microscopic contagion that is capable of invading every nook and cranny of our lives. Already the age of manly handshakes is over, replaced by an emasculated majority, while an entire generation of youth now looks at their fellow human beings as infernal germ factories.

And unlike a traditional enemy that can be seen, attacked and eventually defeated, the coronavirus – we have been oddly forewarned – will make landfall again and again, while regularly morphing with comic book abilities into an increasingly deadlier villain. In this landless battle, only the medical authorities are decorated as heroes, while the people, lacking the professional credentials, are forced to be passive and helpless onlookers, their freedom of movement severely constrained. More importantly, the forces of nationalism have become irrelevant; only a globalist, one-world-order response can defeat this pandemic.

There is very good reason to suspect, however, that either the science on all of this is half-baked, or we the people are being intentionally duped on a grand scale. In fact, it’s probably a little bit of both. First, relying on nothing more than empirical evidence, it does not seem unreasonable to suggest that there is no existential emergency confronting mankind. If there were, we would expect to see decomposing bodies piling up in the streets, like in the medieval times during the Black Plague. This would be especially the case among the homeless population, which is certainly not practicing social distancing etiquette as they pass around open containers on street corners.

Nor does there seem to be any massive queuing up at hospitals for emergency treatment. In fact, as early as April, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo told President Trump that the Navy hospital ship USNS Comfort deployed to New York City by the federal government to help fight the coronavirus outbreak was “no longer needed”. Cuomo said the need for the support vessel “didn’t reach the levels that had been projected.” And I am certainly not the only one who has noticed that Covid cases seem to fluctuate curiously with the political climate.

Let’s not forget that the overwhelming majority of Covid ‘victims’ recover nicely at home, according to no less of an authority than Anthony Fauci. At the same time, many people who acquire the disease are asymptomatic and never even knew they were infected. Children, meanwhile, seem amazingly impervious to the virus. That is not to say that there has been no sign of a virus this winter season. Of course there has been, just like every year. But while Covid cases may be on the rise in some places, and invisible in others, the death rate from this illness remains low and tumbling, predominantly hitting elderly people already suffering from comorbidities.

There are other reasons to be suspicious that what we are dealing with is not a first-class medical emergency, but rather something much more sinister. Like maybe an excuse for rolling out a Western-made vaccine that carries a microchip implant with tracking technology? Such a claim will sound less fantastic when it is realized that it has already been developed.

It is no secret that just one month before Covid-19 made its dramatic landfall in the United States, purportedly from Wuhan, China, MIT researchers announced a new method for recording a patient’s vaccination history: storing the smartphone-readable data under the skin at the same time a vaccine is administered.

“By selectively loading microparticles into microneedles, the patches deliver a pattern in the skin that is invisible to the naked eye but can be scanned with a smartphone that has the infrared filter removed,” MIT News reported.

“The patch can be customized to imprint different patterns that correspond to the type of vaccine delivered.”

Would it surprise anyone to know that the research was funded largely by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the same family venture that now provides the bulk of funding to the World Health Organization?

Then, in September 2019, ID2020, a San Francisco-based biometric company that counts Microsoft as one of its founding members, announced a new project that involves the “exploration of multiple biometric identification technologies for infants” that is based on “infant immunization.”

We could continue here with a long list of other disturbing technologies that would effectively turn people into walking antennae for the rest of their lives, but the point is hopefully clear:although many people might be willing to accept a vaccine against Covid-19, they probably do not want the extra technological add-ons that people like Bill Gates, a man with zero medical qualifications, seem extremely anxious to include.

So what can Americans expect next? How about ‘Freedom Passes’ that Britons may need before they are able to return to some semblance of normalcy?

According to the Daily Mail, “Britons are set to be given Covid ‘freedom passes’ as long as they test negative for the virus twice in a week, it has been suggested…To earn the freedom pass, people will need to be tested regularly and, provided the results come back negative, they will then be given a letter, card or document they can show to people as they move around.”

And this is what they call a “return to normalcy.”

Personally, I call those plans the approach of fascism. And for those who doubt that it could not happen in America should heed the words of the late sagacious comedian George Carlin, who once quipped that “when fascism comes to America, it will not be in brown and black shirts. It will not be with jackboots. It will be Nike sneakers and smiley shirts.”Had Carlin been alive today to see the tremendous mess we’ve inherited,he would most likely have included a syringe in the neo-fascist’s toolkit.

Doctors warn CDC to tell public about side effects of COVID vaccines, number of doses needed | WND

‘If this proves to work, people are going to have to toughen up,’ one study participant said after suffering side effects.

The first COVID-19 vaccines might be around the corner, but the side effects won’t be a walk in the park, doctors say.

That could be a problem given that both of the first vaccines likely to arrive on the market require doses to be given twice. This isn’t unusual for a vaccine, but it presents a logistical challenge for an inoculation intended to stop a pandemic.

“We really need to make patients aware that this is not going to be a walk in the park,” Dr. Sandra Fryhofer of the American Medical Association said during a virtual meeting with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices on Nov. 23, according to CNBC.

“They are going to know they had a vaccine. They are probably not going to feel wonderful. But they’ve got to come back for that second dose.”

Both Moderna and Pfizer have reported their vaccines are over 90 percent effective, but that’s if they’re given in two staggered doses. In trials, the doses of Moderna’s vaccine were given four weeks apart, whereas the Pfizer vaccine had two shots three weeks apart.

Some participants in both trials described having serious side effects, with one telling CNBC he had such bad chills he cracked a tooth and another saying he experienced “full-on Covid-like symptoms.”

A North Carolina woman in her 50s who experienced side effects said she didn’t have a fever but ended up with a severe migraine after the second dose. After taking pain relievers and getting sleep, she felt better — but she told CNBC drug companies should warn people they’ll need to take a “day off” after the second shot.

“If this proves to work, people are going to have to toughen up,” she said.

“The first dose is no big deal. And then the second dose will definitely put you down for the day for sure. … You will need to take a day off after the second dose.”

Both Moderna and Pfizer have said vaccine recipients might experience symptoms not unlike a mild case of COVID-19 — including a high fever, muscle chills and a headache. Participants contacted by CNBC said the symptoms didn’t last longer than a day.

Some patients, however, might experience what’s known as “reactogenicity” — transient, severe side effects from the immune reaction the vaccine provokes.

“As long as the side effects of eventual Covid-19 vaccines are transient and not severe, these would not be sources of alarm — in fact, they may be signals of an immune system lurching into gear,” Helen Branswell wrote in Stat. “It’s a simple fact that some vaccines are more unpleasant to take than others. Think about the pain of a tetanus shot, for instance.

“But experts say it makes sense to prepare people now for the possibility that Covid-19 vaccines may be reactogenic.”

Doctors say there needs to be education about side effects if the number of vaccine recipients needed to acquire herd immunity is to be reached. One doctor said companies should use language such as “response” instead of “adverse reaction” when talking about side effects.

“These are immune responses,” Patsy Stinchfield, a nurse practitioner with Children’s Minnesota and a former voting member of the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices, told CNBC.

“And so if you feel something after vaccination, you should expect to feel that,” she said. “When you do, it’s normal to have some arm soreness or fatigue, some body aches and maybe even a fever. It sounds like in some of these trials, maybe even having to stay home from work.”

While news that the COVID-19 vaccines from Moderna and Pfizer were over 90 percent effective had people excited, there have long been questions regarding just how eagerly any vaccine would be taken up by the public.

A Pew Research poll in September found that only 51 percent would definitely or probably take the vaccine, compared with 49 percent who definitely or probably wouldn’t. In May, those numbers were 72 percent who would definitely or probably take it against 27 percent who wouldn’t.

“There are widespread public concerns about aspects of the vaccine development process. On the heels of a pledge from nine pharmaceutical companies to ensure that a potential vaccine would meet rigorous standards, the Center survey finds three-quarters of Americans (77%) think it’s very or somewhat likely a COVID-19 vaccine will be approved in the United States before its safety and effectiveness are fully understood,” Pew Research said in a September news release.

“And when asked about the pace of the vaccine approval process, 78% say their greater concern is that it will move too fast, without fully establishing safety and effectiveness, compared with just 20% who are more concerned approval will move too slowly, creating unnecessary delays.”

Part of this has likely been the intimation, from both Democrats and the establishment media, that the Trump administration might rush the vaccines through the approval process without doing the appropriate testing.

The evidence for this was mostly specious, but it made for a fun news-cycle talking point.

A Kaiser Family Foundation poll published in early September found that 62 percent of respondents “are worried that the political pressure from the Trump administration will lead the FDA to rush to approve a coronavirus vaccine without making sure that it is safe and effective — including 85% of Democrats and 61% of independents.” Only 35 percent of Republicans expressed concern.

Considering this poisoning of the water, a vaccine might be a difficult sell, particularly if there’s significant reactogenicity.

Whether experts can convince a divided, scared America remains an open question, no matter how effective the vaccines are.

Strange “Coincidences” That Should Deeply Bother All Of Us As We Try To Put The Puzzle Pieces Together — End Of The American Dream

Whether you are a Republican, a Democrat or someone that doesn’t identify with either major party, you should care deeply about the integrity of our elections.  Because if we don’t have elections that are free and fair, our system of government simply will not work.  If we come out of the 2020 elections with about half the country believing that the race for president was rigged, that is a major problem.  Once faith in our elections is gone, it will be nearly impossible to restore, and that is why it is absolutely imperative that we try to figure out how this election went so haywire.

In recent days, I have seen so many people point out some of the numbers from the election that should be deeply bothering all of us.  In this article, I am going to try to summarize some of the most important points.

In 2012, Barack Obama cruised to re-election even though he received 3.5 million less votes than he got in 2008.

In 2020, President Trump was supposedly soundly defeated even though he received 11 million more votes than he did in 2016.

They are telling us that Trump was defeated because of a historic turnout by Biden voters.  But the number of counties that Biden actually won was a record low for a “winning candidate” by a very wide margin.  It is being reported that Trump won 83 percent of all U.S. counties, and Biden only won 17 percent

We are told that Biden won more votes nationally than any presidential candidate in history. But he won a record low of 17 percent of counties; he only won 524 counties, as opposed to the 873 counties Obama won in 2008. Yet, Biden somehow outdid Obama in total votes.

How in the world can you win the presidency by losing more than 80 percent of the counties in the entire country?

Yes, I understand that the major population centers are where the votes are.  But when Obama won his two elections, at least he was victorious in more than 20 percent of all U.S. counties both times…

Former President Obama ushered in the previous low in 2012, winning re-election with just 689 counties, or 22 percent – breaking his own record set in 2008, where he won with 875 counties, or 28 percent.

Biden underperformed Obama almost everywhere except in the urban population centers that were absolutely critical to Biden’s victory.

In those urban population centers, Biden supposedly piled up obscene vote totals that are very difficult to believe.

And it just so happens that those heavily blue urban population centers all seemed to stop counting votes at about the same time on the night of the election.  All of a sudden, voting came to a standstill in Milwaukee, Detroit, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Atlanta.

As many have pointed out, if you stop and wait to see how all of the other areas of your state have voted, you can figure out exactly how many votes you need to put your candidate over the top.

When counting finally resumed, there were four massive vote dumps in the middle of the night which proved decisive in some of the most critical swing states…

  1. An update in Michigan listed as of 6:31AM Eastern Time on November 4th, 2020, which shows 141,258 votes for Joe Biden and 5,968 votes for Donald Trump
  2. An update in Wisconsin listed as 3:42AM Central Time on November 4th, 2020, which shows 143,379 votes for Joe Biden and 25,163 votes for Donald Trump
  3. A vote update in Georgia listed at 1:34AM Eastern Time on November 4th, 2020, which shows 136,155 votes for Joe Biden and 29,115 votes for Donald Trump
  4. An update in Michigan listed as of 3:50AM Eastern Time on November 4th, 2020, which shows 54,497 votes for Joe Biden and 4,718 votes for Donald Trump

In the end, Biden won Wisconsin by less than one percent, he won Pennsylvania by just over one percent, he won Georgia by less than one percent and he won Arizona by less than one percent.

If you reverse the results in those four states, President Trump would be the winner of the race.

The voting behavior in the key midwestern states was particularly suspicious.  The following comes from Patrick Basham

Midwestern states Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin always swing in the same direction as Ohio and Iowa, their regional peers. Ohio likewise swings with Florida. Current tallies show that, outside of a few cities, the Rust Belt swung in Trump’s direction. Yet, Biden leads in Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin because of an apparent avalanche of black votes in Detroit, Philadelphia, and Milwaukee. Biden’s ‘winning’ margin was derived almost entirely from such voters in these cities, as coincidentally his black vote spiked only in exactly the locations necessary to secure victory. He did not receive comparable levels of support among comparable demographic groups in comparable states, which is highly unusual for the presidential victor.

There are countless people that have been looking into how vote totals in the most critical swing states may have been manipulated, but the big tech companies have been doing their best to keep such information from spreading widely.

In fact, it is being reported that Facebook applied an “emergency change” to its news feed algorithm right after the election…

In the aftermath of the contentious presidential election, Facebook reportedly made an “emergency change” to its algorithm, which resulted in the suppression of content from “hyperpartisan” outlets.

Employees at Facebook are now asking if the “nicer news feed” can stay in place long term, according to a Tuesday report from The New York Times.

This “nicer news feed” greatly favors mainstream news outlets such as CNN, the Washington Post and the New York Times.

The big tech companies are absolutely determined to shape how we think, and the power that they now possess is colossal.

They will determine what “truth” is allowed to be told in the years ahead, and they will continue to push our culture down a dystopian path that only leads to complete oblivion.

This election was a major turning point, and those that directed events behind the scenes are on the verge of totally getting away with it.

But this isn’t just a loss for the Republican Party.  This is a loss for all Americans, because our entire system of government is crumbling right in front of our eyes.

Your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you.—John 16:22.

I AM so thankful that I have a joy that the world cannot rob me of; I have a treasure that the world cannot take from me; I have something that it is not in the power of man or devil to deprive me of, the joy of the Lord. “No man taketh it from you.”[1]

He who has ears, let him hear. – Matthew 13:9

Scripture reading: Luke 15:1-3,11-32

Earlier, we noted that Jesus told parables to surface the heart condition of listeners and demand a response. His stories got under people’s skin. They hit close to home… and hearts.

How has the Master Storyteller spoken to your heart this month? Has anything gotten under your skin? Has any part of the story hit close to home or your heart? How have you identified with Little Brother or Big Brother?

How is Jesus calling you to respond? Maybe you need to confess your sin. Maybe you need to confess that you’re in a pigpen, far from home. Maybe you need to confess that you want your Father’s stuff, not Him. Maybe you need to confess that you do not share His heart for the lost. Maybe you need to confess that you’re so locked in your self-righteousness, resentment, pride and insecurity that you are unable to join the party.

Pray, “Father, forgive me.” Believe the gospel. Believe that your True Big Brother took your place to die the death you deserve. He removed your guilt before the Father. Believe that your True Big Brother took your place as the perfect Son, to live the life you should have lived. Your Father credits Christ’s righteous record to you. He receives you as His precious child.

Finally, Jesus calls us to share His heart for the lost. He calls us to go out with Him into the messy places of this world, to seek the lost and lead them home.

Suggestions for prayer

Thank God for the ways He has spoken to your heart in Luke 15. Ask Him for grace to respond to what He has said.

Rand Paul points to 4 wild ‘data dumps’ that put Biden ahead: ‘Fraud?’ | WND

U.S. Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., speaks at the Republican National Convention on Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2020 (RNC video screenshot)

Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., is urging Americans to take a close look at the early morning hours after Election Day when vote dumps in four states put Joe Biden ahead of President Trump.

“Statistical anomaly? Fraud?” Paul wrote on Twitter. “Look at the evidence and decide for yourself. (That is, if Big Tech allows u to read this).”

In fact, Twitter allowed the post but slapped on an editorial comment: “This claim about election fraud is disputed.”

But Paul only raised the question of fraud, asking readers to look at the detailed information from researchers and judge for themselves.

BizPacReview noted Paul was questioning the “statistical anomaly,” linking to an article on “vote spikes” favoring Biden that occurred in the early hours of Nov. 4.

The analysis by Vote Pattern Analysis explained the spikes decisively improved Biden’s position in Michigan, Wisconsin and Georgia.

“Much skepticism and uncertainty surrounds these ‘vote spikes.’ Critics point to suspicious vote counting practices, extreme differences between the two major candidates’ vote counts, and the timing of the vote updates, among other factors, to cast doubt on the legitimacy of some of these spikes. While data analysis cannot on its own demonstrate fraud or systemic issues, it can point us to statistically anomalous cases that invite further scrutiny.”

The spikes in question were in competitive states and were “unusually large in size and had an unusually high Biden-to-Trump ratio.”

“We demonstrate the results differ enough from expected results to be cause for concern.”

The analysis took its numbers from the New York Times, reviewing nearly 9,000 “vote updates.”

“We discover a remarkably consistent mathematical property: there is a clear inverse relationship between difference in candidates’ vote counts and the ratio of the vote counts. (In other words, it’s not surprising to see vote updates with large margins, and it’s not surprising to see vote updates with very large ratios of support between the candidates, but it is surprising to see vote updates which are both).”

The report continued: “Nearly every vote update, across states of all sizes and political leanings follow this statistical pattern. A very small number, however, are especially aberrant. Of the seven vote updates which follow the pattern the least, four individual vote updates — two in Michigan, one in Wisconsin, and one in Georgia — were particularly anomalous and influential with respect to this property and all occurred within the same five hour window.

The batch updates that raise concerns include, the report said:

  • An update in Michigan at 6:31 a.m. Eastern on Nov. 4 showed 141,258 votes for Biden and 5,968 votes for Trump
  • An update in Wisconsin at 3:42 a.m. Central showed 143,379 votes for Joe Biden and 25,163 votes for Trump
  • A vote update in Georgia at 1:34 a.m. Eastern showed 136,155 votes for Biden and 29,115 votes for Trump
  • An update in Michigan at 3:50 a.m. Eastern showed 54,497 votes for Biden and 4,718 votes for Trump

Essentially the “anomalies” are “more than the margin of victory in all three states — Michigan, Wisconsin, and Georgia — which collectively represent forty-two electoral votes,” the report said.

In other words, without the vote dumps, Trump would be on his way today to a second term.

The report suggests the vote dumps were “especially anomalous and merit further investigation.” They were, the report said, “more extreme than 99% of all updates nationally in terms of their deviation.”

Thomas Jefferson: Accuracy vs. Revisionism — VCY America

Some communist goals were written into the Congressional Record on January 10th, 1963.  Here are just a few:

  • Get control of the schools.
  • Discredit the American Founding Fathers and present them as selfish aristocrats who had no concern for the common man.
  • Belittle all forms of American culture and discourage the teaching of American history on the grounds that it was only a minor part of the big picture.

This kind of revisionism is taking place today and one point of interest for those behind such efforts is founding father Thomas Jefferson.  Jefferson was the 3rd president of the United States and author of the Declaration of Independence

Joining Jim to separate truth from fiction concerning Jefferson was Dr. Catherine Millard.  Dr. Millard is president of Christian Heritage Ministries.  She has a Doctor of Ministry degree in the area of Christian Education.  She’s the recipient of the George Washington Honor Medal sponsored by the Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge for excellence in patriotic and individual achievement and the Faith and Freedom Religious Heritage of America Award for significant contributions in affirming and strengthening the biblical principles in American life.  She’s the author of numerous books and has taught extensively on the subject in college, universities and schools throughout the nation and abroad. She’s author of Thomas Jefferson: Accuracy vs. Revisionism–An Expose.

According to Dr. Millard, attacks against Thomas Jefferson have been going on since the 1930’s when the Marxist movement began.  Why does he receive so much attention in this regard?  Dr. Millard believes it’s because he wrote the Declaration of Independence as well as the Statute for Religious Freedom in Virginia, documents that were the first of their kind in the world.  Such documents provided our nation with its civil and religious liberties and its his pen that stood up against the monarchy for the first time in world history.

What do we know about his early life?  What impact did Christianity and religion have on his life and writing?  How did Jefferson view the separation of church and state?  What do the Council on Foreign Relations and Karl Marx have to do with Jefferson?

As Dr. Millard addresses these and other questions, you’ll see how this information stacks up against the charge that Jefferson was an atheist, agnostic or unbeliever.

Crosstalk listeners were given an opportunity to present their questions and opinions as well.

Ugly Things Within the Church — The Watchman’s Bagpipes

The infection of false doctrine in the Church.

WARNING: Carl Lentz is trying for a comeback.  He’s getting counseling; psychobabble counseling which he will most likely claim has cured him and therefore he can be back in the pulpit.

Here comes the next Hillsong/Bethel-type church of apostasy and heresy.

Beth Moore – the woman really, really needs to be put out to pasture.

I saw this old video and decided to share it. It’s tells what Jehovah’s Witnesses teach about Jesus.

The Pope continues to prove that he has nothing to do with Christianity, is not a spokesman for God, but is a spokesman for Satan.

Francis Chan has really gone off the deep end. The man is a blasphemer as well as being a rank false teacher.

I previously linked to an article about “The Bible Project” and I keep learning more problems with it. Well, I learned it also has some theological problems regarding hell. Stay away from this “project.”

Where are all the discerning women?

Clint Adams has an excellent examination of rank heretic Richard Rohr, who also happens to be a major promoter of that horrid, unbiblical nonsense of the Enneagram.

Raphael Warnock is a false Christian leading a false church and now is trying to be a Senator. Just what we need in the Senate — another Demokrat, racist anti-Semite.  (I have yet to find in the Bible where we need to repent for our “worship of whiteness“, whatever that is.)

November 30 Life-Changing Moments With God

The Lord of peace Himself give you peace always in every way. The Lord be with you all.

Thank You, Lord, for peace from Jesus who is and who was and who is to come. Your peace, Lord God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard my heart and mind through Christ Jesus.

The resurrected Jesus Himself stood in the midst of His disciples, and said to them, “Peace to you.” Peace He leaves with me, His peace He gives to me; not as the world gives does He give to me. I will let not my heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

Jesus gave us the Helper, the Spirit of truth. The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace. The Spirit Himself bears witness with my spirit that I am a child of God.

God, You said to Moses, “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.” Then Moses said to You, “If Your Presence does not go with us, do not bring us up from here. For how then will it be known that Your people and I have found grace in Your sight, except You go with us?”

All praise to You, Father God, who gives us—by Your presence with us—peace beyond description!

Advent: Thirty Days of Jesus, Day 3- ‘Perfect Timing’ — The End Time

By Elizabeth Prata

We are in the section of the thirty day flow where we examine PROPHECY, ARRIVAL, and EARLY LIFE of Jesus.

In this section I chose verses that reflect the prophecies that predict His coming. Prophecy warns of coming judgment but it also comforts in that it foretells the holy and wonderful resolution of all things for the believer. This resolution didn’t begin with Jesus’ incarnation as a babe in the manger, it began before the foundation of the world when the God-head held an intra-council discussion and Jesus voluntarily chose to become the sacrificial Lamb.

November 30, 2020 Evening Verse Of The Day

21 Speech, consequences of. What people say can lead to life or death; “those who love it will eat its fruit.” The referent of “it” must be “the tongue,” i.e., what the tongue says. So those who enjoy talking, i.e., indulging in it, must bear its fruit, whether good or bad. The lesson is to be warned, especially if you love to talk. The Midrash mentions this point, showing one way it can cause death: “The evil tongue slays three, the slanderer, the slandered, and the listener” (Midr. Tehillim 52:2; see further James G. Williams, “The Power of Form: A Study of Biblical Proverbs,” Semeia 17 [1980]: 35–38).[1]

21 On its own this proverb could refer to eating (i.e., taking into one’s being) the speech of others but its close connection with verse 20 suggests it continues the oxymoron of eating the consequences in an exact correspondence to the way one speaks (cf. 13:3; 15:23; 21:23). By placing in the outer core of its chiastic synthetic parallels as word initial “life and death” (21a) and word final “fruit” (21b), the proverb clarifies and intensifies the metaphor of “fruit” in verse 20. Its inner core, matching “in the power of the tongue” with “those who love it,” clarifies that for speech to effect life or death one must earnestly desire to speak, to pursue it and to stick with it. This commitment to speech precedes the rewards of verse 20, as eating precedes being filled. The merism, death and life (see 2:18, 19; 5:5, 6; 8:35, 36; 12:28; 13:14; 14:27; 16:14, 15), comprehends all manner of weal and woe. Speech effects more than clinical death and life. The merism speaks of relationship within community or the lack of it. The deadly tongue disrupts community and by its lethal power isolates its owner from community and kills him. The life-giving tongue creates community and by its vitality gives its possessor the full enjoyment of the abundant life within the community. Are in the power of (beyad, literally, “in the hand of”) has the metaphorical sense, “in the power/care/authority of” (Gen. 16:6; 39:23; Num. 31:49; 2 Sam. 18:2; Job 1:12). Of the tongue is another common metonymy for good or bad speech in this book (10:20; 12:18; 15:2, 4; versus 10:21; 12:19; 17:4, 20), complementing “mouth” and “lip” in the proverb pair. And adds the parallel that qualifies verset A. Those who love it (i.e., “the tongue” [= speech], see 1:22) designates people who “are in love with language; they use it fastidiously, they search for chaste expression and precise meaning, and they have an end in view which they will reach because they know what language is for and how it can best be used to achieve its purpose.” Their objective may be good (i.e., producing life, cf. 4:6; 8:17; 12:1; 13:24; 16:13; 19:1; 22:11; 29:3) or bad (i.e., producing death, cf. 1:22; 8:36; 17:19; 20:13; 21:17). Each one will eat (yoʾkal) its fruit (piryah, see v. 20).[2]

18:21. Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit.

This proverb follows on the previous one, being tied together by the common word ‘fruit’ and the common theme of speech. Here, ‘Death and life’ are said to lie in the ‘power of the tongue.’ The reference to ‘Death and life’ reminds one of Moses’ plea in Deuteronomy 30: ‘See, I have set before you today life and prosperity, and death and adversity … I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse. So choose life …’ (vv. 15, 19). There, the reference was to obedience to God’s law, here it is the outcome of what one says.

Indeed, one’s tongue is attributed with ‘power.’ The word ‘power’ is, literally, ‘hand’ in the Hebrew. The expression reads ‘Death and life are in the hand of the tongue.’ The ‘hand’ is often used as a metaphorical expression for coming into the grasp of or under the power of another. The particular power attributed to the ‘tongue’ is the ability to bring ‘life’ or to bring ‘death.’ Are these benefits or liabilities seen as coming to the speaker of the words or those to whom he speaks? If a choice must be made, it is probably the former that is in view here. However, they cannot truly be separated. Part of the ‘life’ that well-spoken words bring to the speaker is their life-giving effect upon his listeners. Part of the ‘death’ they bring is the destruction wreaked upon the relationships of the speaker as his words come to others.

Proverbs stresses the life-giving effects of wise speech. ‘The tongue of the righteous is as choice silver’ (Prov. 10:20a). ‘The lips of the righteous feed many’ (Prov. 10:21a). ‘The mouth of the righteous flows with wisdom’ (Prov. 10:31a). The reverse is also true, however, and one’s words may destroy. ‘Words from the mouth of a wise man are gracious, while the lips of a fool consume him; the beginning of his talking is folly, and the end of it is wicked madness. Yet the fool multiplies words. No man knows what will happen, and who can tell him what will come after him?’ (Eccles. 10:12–14).

While the exact effect of one’s speech may not be determined exactly, the fact that ‘those who love it will eat its fruit’ is a given. We will reap the benefits or endure the pains of what we say. The word ‘its’ refers to one’s speech, the product of one’s tongue. Our words are seeds sown in the soil of other people’s lives. Those words never remain neutral. They yield a harvest either to ‘life’ or to ‘death’ for them and for us. The one who loves to talk (Prov. 10:19; 18:2; 20:19) will live or die by his speech.

James wisely warned us: ‘Let not many of you become teachers, my brethren, knowing that as such we shall incur a stricter judgment’ (James 3:1). The context of this warning is the dangers of speech (vv. 2–12; cf. 3:6–10). Jesus also warned us, ‘And I say to you, that every careless word that men shall speak, they shall render account for it in the day of judgment. For by your words you shall be justified, and by your words you shall be condemned’ (Matt. 12:36–37).[3]

Ver. 21.—Death and life are in the power of the tongue; literally, in the hand of the tongue. The tongue, according as it is used, deals forth life or death; for speech is the picture of the mind (comp. ch. 12:18; 26:28). The vast importance of our words may be learned from Jas. 3; and our blessed Lord says expressly (Matt. 12:36, etc.), “Every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.” Hence the gnome—

Γλῶσσα τν́χη, γλῶσσα δαίμων,

intimating that the tongue is the real controller of man’s destiny; and another—

Λόγῳ δισικεῖται βροτῶν βίος μόνῳ.

“By words alone is life of mortals swayed.” And they that love it (the tongue) shall eat the fruit thereof. They who use it much must abide the consequences of their words, whether by kind and pure and edifying conversation they contribute health and life to themselves and others, or whether by foul, calumnious, corrupting language they involve themselves and others in mortal sin. For “they that love it,” the Septuagint has, οἱ κρατοῦντες αὐτῆς, “they who get the mastery over it.”[4]

Ver. 21. Death and life are in the power of the tongue. The power of speech:

Of all the powers that man possesses there is scarcely any more awful than the power of speech. It is a God-like power. Human speech is no mere evolution from the cry of the animals. Speech became possible on the earth only when on the earth there appeared one into whom the Divine Spirit had breathed the breath of life, and made him a living soul. It is because the origin of speech is Divine that words have such awful power. Consider what a word is. From the materialist’s point of view, it is but a slight agitation of the particles of air around us. Nothing feebler, nothing more evanescent, can be conceived. Yet that word can make or mar a human life; that word can fill a home with gladness or despair.

  1. Death is in the power of the tongue. How significant it is of the fallen condition of our race that death should here be put first! To prove the truth of our text, let us take some illustrations of the death-dealing power of the tongue.
  2. Take the deadly power of careless, vain, frivolous words. They seem harmless. How much harm is done by the light and careless conversation even of Christian people about religion! How much damage is done by the far too common habit of jesting with Scripture! Such a habit induces irreverence, and lays the foundation for irreligion.
  3. Take the deadly power of mocking words. A gibe, a sneer, cuts many a man like a knife. By the mocking words of companions many a soul who has just escaped has been forced back into the bondage of sin, and driven to a Christless grave.
  4. As a graver illustration of the same thing, take the power of false words. While open and deliberate lying is reprobated by all, many have not a sufficient sense of the mischief wrought by falsehood and insincerity of speech. Every lie begets other lies; and from the thoughtless exaggerations of conversation to the deliberate perjury, which has in our day become so common in our law courts, the descent is quick and easy.
  5. A still more serious illustration of the death-dealing power of the tongue is seen in connection with slander. Says Robertson, of Brighton, in a great sermon upon the tongue, “In the drop of poison which distils from the sting of the smallest insect, or the spikes of the nettle leaf, there is concentrated the quintessence of a poison so subtle that the microscope cannot distinguish it, yet so virulent that it can inflame the blood, irritate the whole system, and convert night and day into a restless misery. So it is in the power of slanderous words to inflame hearts, to fever human existence, to poison human society at the fountain springs of life.”
  6. But the supreme illustration of the death-dealing power of the tongue is found in indecent words. The man of indecent speech may be compared with the murderer. The one destroys the body, the other destroys the soul. If we would execrate the man who in the time of pestilence would smear the walls of a city with plague-poison, what shall we say of the man who defiles the temple of the soul with his indecent speech? To thousands and tens of thousands indecent speech is the revelation of a world of wickedness previously unknown. By it the imagination is defiled, the corrupt nature set on fire, the barriers that guard purity broken down, and the soul led to absolute ruin.
  7. Life is in the power of the tongue. When the tongue is consecrated, when it is guided and controlled by a heart full of the Holy Ghost, it becomes a mighty power to destroy the works of the devil.
  8. Grave and gracious speech takes the place of careless, light, and frivolous speech. Our words lead seekers to Christ, in Him to find eternal life.
  9. Comforting and encouraging words take the place of mocking words. The power of words of comfort to encourage those who are sorrowing and desponding is simply marvellous. They literally bring life to the soul.
  10. Kind words take the place of cruel words. Every kind word that is uttered makes this world more like heaven. For where slander begets hate, kindness begets love.
  11. True words go forth to do battle against the falsehoods of which the earth is full. Every true word that is spoken binds human society more closely together, and makes the burden of life easier to bear.
  12. And then pure words go forth to enlighten and purify and cleanse lives darkened and debased and defiled by the evils of the world. Before the man of pure speech the indecent man hides himself Purity is like the sunlight. When it is let in upon the mind the evil and unclean things which dwell there flee, as noisome creatures under a stone flee from the light of day. But what is true of the tongue is true also of the pen. Literature to-day has a tremendous power. And who doubts that in countless instances it is a power making for death?

(1) Who can estimate the damage done by the innumerable frivolous and absolutely worthless books which are issued from the press? Even where they are not positively harmful, they waste time.

(2) And if these are hurtful, how much more so are the false and misleading books which are issued in such numbers in our day!

(3) But the death-dealing power of the press is seen in nothing so dreadfully as in its issue of impure and indecent literature. But if the press has such power, and if authors are using this power for evil, it becomes all the more necessary that we should use it for good. A good book entering a house may prevent the entrance of a bad book. A good book following a bad book may largely neutralise the mischief which the first has done. (G. H. C. Macgregor, M.A.)

The power of the tongue:

The faculty of speech is one of the very highest faculties with which we have been endowed. Great is its value to man as an intelligent and social being, and great is the weight of responsibility which is implied by the impression of it. Yet the Hebrew sage appears to have exceeded the fair limit allowable even to hyperbole when he says, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue.” Yet there is nothing but what is strictly accurate in this sentence. Literally the words are. “Death and life are in the hand of the tongue.” The author represents this faculty as a living thing—as the arbiter of good and ill, as the disposer of human fortune.

  1. See the truth of the text in its application to the present life. As a maxim of common prudence the words deserve attention. There are some persons who never speak well of others. And fatal often is their cruel activity. Reverse the picture, and see happiness smiling about the man who speaks of others in the language of justice, and gentleness, and charity. Wherever he can he will bear his testimony to the integrity and good character of others. But our proverb does not merely apply to extreme cases, such as these. When a man speaks in mere thoughtlessness, there may be those hearing him on whom his very random words may be falling as a balm, or as a poison If we set any value upon the happiness and comfort of others, it becomes us to set a watch over our mouth. What we say is a most important influence on our own condition in this world, because our condition is greatly affected by what others think of us, and we know full well that it is not easy to struggle against the difficulties created by a bad character. The estimation in which we are held is very greatly affected by our words.
  2. See the truth of the text in its bearing upon our spiritual condition. Spiritual death is the frequent and melancholy effect of the impious efforts of some men’s tongues. But life, too, is in the power of the tongue. The cause of God has never been without its noble band of witnesses. Important, however, as may be the effects of what we say on others, they cannot be greater than they are upon ourselves. A word may determine our condition for ever. Prayers, praises, and holy conversation, cannot be in vain—nor can curses, and railing, and idle talk, be in vain. It is greatly to be feared that we may find much that is amiss in ourselves, when we press our consciences with the question, Have we acted as those who believed that death and life are in the power of the tongue? (J. G. Dowling, M.A.)

The tongue, or well-speaking:

As in the physical, so in the moral, the tongue is the criterion of the hidden and eternal man. Self-government alone can conform men to Christ, and there is no self-government where the tongue is untamed.

  1. The tongue is a great blessing. The gift of speech is a valuable boon. The animal creation have it not. In man’s case, mind utters itself through matter. Spirit speaks through clay. Blessed boon, the gift of speech!—the richest melody of creation, the music of nature, the life of poetry, the vehicle of common sense, the incarnation of the soul’s contemplations.
  2. The tongue is the servant of the heart. Strictly, the tongue never speaks at random. The tongue is the criterion of the moral man. A diseased or healthy heart is thereby truthfully advertised. While the mind is the standard of the man, the tongue is the standard of the mind. The apostle James regarded a wholesome tongue in so important a light that he came to the conclusion, “if any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body.” With him it involved such mortification of nature, such growth in goodness, and such constant self-government, that he regarded the man who had mastered his lips as not far from perfection. Idle words betray a mind waste, worthless, and uncultivated; severe words, a mind savage and malicious; angry words, a mind set on fire of hell; whispering words, a mind cast in the mould of Judas; boasting or disparaging words, a mind stuffed with self-conceit; false and deceitful words, a mind which he who was a liar from the beginning has usurped as his pleasure-ground. Thus our daily sayings are our daily selves, and our words testify our inmost thoughts.

III. The tongue spoiled by sin is emphatically the stronghold of Satan. No member of the body has done Satan more service than the tongue. Through all generations, how many of the best and most useful men have been assailed by calumnies. The sensual tongues, the flattering tongues, the sceptical tongues of bad men, and the strife of tongues among good men, have shown Satan to be the lord of language. The tongue is God’s organ, but beware lest the devil play upon it till in death it cyphers and is heard no more.

  1. The tongue can only be cured by the habitual contemplation of Christ. It is by looking unto Him, the author and finisher of our faith, by closely studying His excellences, and getting full of His Spirit, that we effectually keep the door of our lips against every ungodly and unamiable intruder. The tongues of Christians should be eminently instructive. They should also be comforters. And they should be, at proper times, reprovers. Keep the door of your lips. Be slow to speak, slow to wrath. (Mortlock Daniel.)

The use and abuse of speech:

Religion requires much more than mere outward decency or refinement of manners. We gather from Scripture that we should order our speech with a view to the benefit of our fellow-creatures and the promotion of the glory of God. We must have regard to the moral character and consequences of our speech. Many people abuse the power of the tongue so incessantly that they cease to be aware what a depraved state of heart is thereby indicated. Inasmuch as God hears and notes our sayings, we bring good or evil upon our souls according to the manner in which the power of the tongue is employed. Speech forms part of character. There is an inseparable connection between what we say and what we think. Each man’s conversation has a distinct personality from which it cannot be divested. Thought awakens feeling, and feeling induces utterance. When a man speaks his character passes into action. By our words our own immortal future is affected, and we are continually exercising an influence upon the welfare of our neighbours. The power of the tongue is infinitely reproductive. Its effects are incalculable. And the guidance of our speech is a matter which deeply concerns us. Few of us can look back upon the past without a consciousness of having offended much with the tongue. The consideration of this subject shows the necessity of a gracious renewal of the heart. (A. B. Whatton, LL.B.)

The tongue an agency of good or evil:

The tongue is a member which God has used to produce great misery or great blessing. As soon as thought is embodied in language, it assumes the form of a living engine.

  1. The engine of counsel. If men be asked for counsel or advice, they can give it only in proportion to the knowledge they possess. Illustrate from the counsel given by the master of a family or by a public teacher.
  2. The engine of slander. Slanderers include the backbiter, the gossiper, the keen anatomist. The mind of man is by nature eminently fitted for becoming the engine of slander.

III. As the engine of flattery. Men are more ready to forgive an ill done to them than an ill said of them. Men often entertain a higher respect for individuals who flatter them than for those who confer upon them a substantial benefit. There is such a thing as religious flattery. Even an advance in spiritual attainments may engender spiritual pride. Where there is spiritual prosperity there is a risk of becoming spiritually vain. (H. Melvill.)

The power of the tongue:

Intellectual, spiritual, social, and political life and death are in the tongue. Apply the proverb—

  1. To the Christian in general. He prays with the tongue. He confesses with the tongue. He converses with the tongue.
  2. To the preacher of the gospel. The tongue of a true gospel minister produces life intentionally. The tongue of a true gospel minister may produce death incidentally.

III. To the Saviour of men. This is true of Him as a Teacher, as an Advocate, and as a Judge. Learn the awful responsibility attached to speech. Burnet says of the incomparable Leighton, “In a free and frequent conversation with him for twenty-two years, I never heard him utter an idle word, or a word that had not a direct tendency to edification.” (John Sibree.)

Partisan misrepresentation:

Three forms of misrepresentation may be indicated—

  1. The suppression of facts essential to a right estimate of character. This is perhaps the most usual and most dangerous form of the evil. “No lie is so dangerous as a half-truth.”
  2. The accepting of unverified rumour for fact. He who does this becomes an indorser of the rumour. A premium is thereby placed upon slander.
  3. Direct fabrication of known falsehood. The evils of such misrepresentation are lasting and obvious.

(1) It defiles the individual, blunts his sense of honour and justice, numbs his conscience, and weakens his moral influence over his fellows.

(2) It is a crime against one’s country.

(3) It is a sin before God. In the thunders of Sinai it was condemned. Christ Himself was the victim of partisan misrepresentation. (Homiletic Review.)[5]
