Pride Is to Be Feared Even When Doing Right Actions
Matthew 6:1–7; John 12:43
Unless humility precede, accompany, and follow every good action that we perform, being at once the object which we keep before our eyes, the support to which we cling, and the monitor by which we are restrained, pride wrests wholly from our hand any good work on which we are congratulating ourselves. All other vices are to be apprehended when we are doing wrong; but pride is to be feared even when we do right actions, lest those things that are done in a praiseworthy manner be spoiled by the desire for praise itself.

“Always Reaching Forward”
John 15:12–17; 2 Peter 1:5–7; 1 John 4:12–16
A man who really has the love of God in his heart is always reaching forward to the things which are before. The more he loves, the more he wants to love; the more he is consecrated, the more consecration he longs for. He has grand ideas and grand aims, but they lie beyond him in heaven.
