A Contest of Civility: The Stakes of the Battle over the Equality Act – Public Discourse

There are far more egregious consequences of the Equality Act than its lack of protections for religious freedom. It celebrates and legitimizes a way of life that is fundamentally destructive, both on an individual and societal level. The Equality Act would not merely alter legal code. It would engender and nourish a burgeoning assault on any who publicly dissent from the new secular orthodoxy.

Laws reveal much about what a society values. Legal jargon is never just jargon: statutes and proposed legal amendments reveal foundational moral convictions about what is true, good, and just. It ought not to cause surprise, therefore, that when lawmakers propose new laws, a clash of worldviews ensues, and rhetoric emerges that reveals fundamentally disparate visions of how society should be structured.

The Equality Act is perhaps one of the clearest pictures of just how polarizing the legal code can be. One legislative act can thrust the nation into a divisive dispute over a priori moral and ethical questions—questions over what it means to be male and female, the institution of the family, matters of discrimination, and the issue of religious freedom.

The complexities of the Equality Act will continue to grip political discourse and debate in the months and, most likely, years to come. The act’s advocates contend that the Equality Act represents the keystone achievement of LGBTQ equality. As House Speaker Nancy Pelosi argued, the Equality Act resoundingly commits the United States to treating LGBTQ people equally not only “in the workplace, but in every place.” The act, however, also suffers its discontents, who rightly chide the legislative measure as an assault on religious freedom.

But is the argument about the lack of religious freedom protections enough? I think Ryan Anderson is right: religious freedom cannot be the only end sought by conservatives and especially for Christians. “The answer,” Anderson argues, “isn’t for our side to forfeit the fight about the truth by pleading only to be left alone.” Indeed, there are far more egregious consequences of the Equality Act than its lack of protections for religious freedom: it celebrates and legitimizes a way of life that is fundamentally destructive, both on an individual and societal level. There are serious matters at stake in the constellation of ethical issues connected to the Equality Act. Again, legal jargon is never just jargon. Codified laws flow from a worldview, and in the case of the Equality Act, the undergirding worldview is antithetical to human flourishing.

That is, perhaps, one of the more pressing and pervasive threats of the Equality Act: the freedom to think, to be offensive, to state publicly without equivocation or fear of retribution that transgenderism, as an example, is destructive. The editorial board of The Washington Post suggests that such views are permitted, but they must remain private—they cannot, for the sake of human dignity, have a place in the public square. Cancel culture devours dissent, as evidenced by Amazon’s removal of Ryan Anderson’s book against transgenderism, When Harry Became Sally. The Equality Act would not merely alter legal code. It would engender and nourish a burgeoning assault on any who publicly dissent from the new secular orthodoxy.

Civility of Conformity in Colonial Massachusetts

The impulse to silence and sideline dissent against a socially prescribed orthodoxy is not new. Indeed, the proponents of cancel culture and the advocates of the Equality Act embody an all too familiar impulse of the human condition. The inclination to gag society’s dissenters stems from what I call the civility of conformity, which is a political ideology that prizes moral and ethical uniformity around a socially mandated orthodoxy.

Civility of conformity made its way to America in the earliest days of the colonial period. As winter’s chill began to descend in October of 1659, the colony of Massachusetts carried out the execution of William Robinson and Marmaduke Stevenson, two Quakers who disturbed the civil peace and threatened the purity of the church with their blasphemies and idolatry. The authorities in Massachusetts feared the spread of Quaker heresy throughout its colony, and Massachusetts colonists believed that they must faithfully maintain the law of God. In the preservation of God’s ordinances among them was their security and peace. In other words, religious establishment in this early American colony created no space for dissent. Conformity secured peace, ecclesial purity, and social stability.

Throughout the 1630s and 40s, Massachusetts navigated the Roger Williams controversy, the antinomian crisis, the Samuel Gorton case, and the Remonstrance of 1646. The rise of Protestant pluralism, coupled with the unrelenting conviction of dissenters, continued to undermine the colony’s efforts at uniformity. Not only that, but the colony suffered in each of these controversies a public relations catastrophe with England. News began to cross the Atlantic of the colony’s departure from the Anglican model of church governance, which violated its charter. Individuals like Thomas Lechford, for example, detailed the harsh antics of a colony that had dissolved into a chaotic spree of violence against nonconformists. Lechford chronicled how the colony banished, whipped, and imprisoned men for theological crimes “without sufficient record.” The assault on the aspiration and vision of Massachusetts’s Puritan divines led men like John Cotton, John Winthrop, Nathaniel Ward, and Plymouth’s Edward Winslow to defend the colony’s actions as well as to reassert the necessity of civility of conformity.

April 21 Evening Quotes of The Day

It Is Treachery to Not Deal Plainly Regarding Sin
Leviticus 19:17; Proverbs 25:12; 27:6; Matthew 18:15

You would count him unworthy of the name of a friend who, knowing a thief or an incendiary to lurk in your family, with a design to kill, or rob, or burn your house, would conceal it from you and not acquaint you with it on his own accord. There is no such thief, murderer, incendiary, as sin.… Silence or concealment in this case is treachery. He is the most faithful friend, and worthy of most esteem and affection, that deals most plainly with us, in reference to the discovery of our sin. He that is reserved in this case is but a false friend, a mere pretender to love.

The Danger of Associating with the Ungodly
Psalm 1:1; 141:4; Proverbs 24:1–2

Nothing is more dangerous than associating with the ungodly; because, being more prone to follow vice than virtue, it cannot but be that the more conversant we are with corruption, the more widely will it spread.

What Is Providence? — Ligonier Ministries Blog

One way in which the secular mind-set has made inroads into the Christian community is through the worldview that assumes that everything happens according to fixed natural causes, and God, if He is actually there, is above and beyond it all. He is just a spectator in heaven looking down, perhaps cheering us on but exercising no immediate control over what happens on earth. Historically, however, Christians have had an acute sense that this is our Father’s world and that the affairs of men and nations, in the final analysis, are in His hands. That is what Paul is expressing in Romans 8:28—a sure knowledge of divine providence. “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.”

Immediately thereafter, Paul moves into a predestination sequence: “For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified” (vv. 29–30). Then Paul concludes: “What then shall we say to these things?” (v. 31a). In other words, what should be our response to the sovereignty of God and to the fact that He is working out a divine purpose in this world and in our lives? The world repudiates that truth, but Paul answers this way:

If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things? Who shall bring any charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies. Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised—who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? . . . No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. (vv. 31b–37)

One of the oldest sayings of the ancient church summarizes the essence of the relationship between God and His people: Deus pro nobis. It means “God for us.” That is what the doctrine of providence is all about. It is God’s being for His people. “What then shall we say to these things?” Paul asks. If God is for us, who can be against us, and who can separate us from the love of Christ? Is it going to be distress, peril, the sword, persecution, suffering, sickness, or human hostility? Paul is saying that no matter what we have to endure in this world as Christians, nothing has the power to sever the relationship we have to a loving and sovereign providence.

The word providence is made up of a prefix and a root. The root comes from the Latin videre, from which we get the English word video. Julius Caesar famously said, “Veni, vidi, vici“—”I came, I saw, I conquered.” The vidi in that statement, “I saw,” comes from videre, which means “to see.” That is why we call television “video.” The Latin word provideo, from which we get our word providence, means “to see beforehand, a prior seeing, a foresight.” However, theologians make a distinction between the foreknowledge of God and the providence of God. Even though the word providence means the same thing etymologically as the word foreknowledge, the concept covers significantly more ground than the idea of foreknowledge. In fact, the closest thing to this Latin word in our language is the word provision.

Consider what the Bible says about the responsibility of the head of a family: “If anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for members of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever” (1 Tim. 5:8). The responsibility is given to the head of the household to be the one who provides and makes provision; that is, that person has to know in advance what the family is going to need in terms of the essentials of life, then meet those needs. When Jesus said, “Do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on” (Matt. 6:25), He was not advocating a careless approach to life. He was talking about anxiety. We are not to be frightened; we are to put our trust in the God who will meet our needs. At the same time, God entrusts a responsibility to heads of households to be provident, that is, to consider tomorrow and to make sure there is food and clothing for the family.

The first time we find the word providence in the Old Testament is in the narrative of Abraham’s offering of Isaac upon the altar. God called Abraham to take his son Isaac, whom he loved, to a mountain and offer him as a sacrifice. Quite naturally, Abraham anguished under a great internal struggle with God’s command, and as Abraham prepared to obey, Isaac asked him, “Behold, the fire and the wood, but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?” (Gen. 22:7). Abraham replied, “God will provide for himself the lamb for a burnt offering, my son” (v. 8). Abraham spoke here of Jehovah jireh, “God will provide.” That is the first time the Bible speaks of God’s providence, which has to do with God’s making a provision for our needs. And of course, this passage looks forward to the ultimate provision He has made by virtue of His divine sovereignty, the supreme Lamb who was sacrificed on our behalf.

The Other Side of Me — Daily Devotionals by Thoughts about God

“…whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant… just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Matthew 20:25 & 28

Do you ever prioritize other people’s needs above your own?

Throughout my adolescent years, my parents often instilled in me the value of selflessness. Admittedly, despite their zealous efforts, my immature rebellious nature compelled me to believe that my desires were first priority. Today’s culture resonates a similar me-first-you-second attitude. Secular media relentlessly reinforces this mindset by indoctrinating us with enticing “me first” messages — cultivating an epidemic of narcissism and entitlement.

A common misconception among today’s believers is that God exists to serve us and to fulfill our every desire. Actually, when we decide to follow Christ, we inherit His counter-cultural mantle of servanthood. Scriptural servanthood, as modeled and asserted by Jesus, means giving life away and prioritizing His will above our own will. In opposition to today’s “me first” environment, following Jesus means purposely and prayerfully forfeiting personal plans and purposes in order to prioritize others needs.

Today, even as a mature believer, I still struggle to overcome selfishness. The enemy can exploit my propensity to prioritize self. To overcome self’s seductive appeal, I intentionally choose to set aside some time to prioritize the needs of society’s marginalized. Serving allows me to be the tangible hands and feet of Jesus in His absence. Giving myself away helped me discover the other side of “me” — the side redeemed for His glory — the side chosen for His purposes — the side that chooses to serve despite personal comfort, convenience, and cost.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for saving me to serve. Create in me a servant’s heart. Help me to step outside the comfort and confines of my church and to reflect and serve You in my community. Amen.

The Other Side of Me — Daily Devotionals by Thoughts about God

What About Me? — Daily Devotionals by Thoughts about God

“. . . whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.”  Matthew 10:39

Sometimes, I like to do what I want, when I want, how I want. Okay, that’s a lie. Truthfully, it’s most times. As much as my heart desires to serve and honor God in all I do and say, all roads seem to lead inward during moments of frustration or inconvenience, and selfishness rears its ugly head.

Yet, through meditating on today’s verse, not only am I convicted by the implications of my self-centeredness, but there is an equal and opposite force creating a keen revelation? my self-service is, in fact, causing a deeper passion to die.

No, not literally, but akin to foregoing my selfish ways because I truly love Jesus and emphatically want to live completely for him. Being a realist, I know this undertaking is a process but, more importantly, Jesus knows my deepest and truest longings. They revealed themselves the day I received Christ as Lord and Savior and, at the end of a particularly self-obsessed day, his knowledge of this yearning heart is all that matters.

Being a Christian doesn’t come with a promise of selflessness but it does guarantee a transformation that, inexplicably, changes the human heart. It’s a daily journey of living by his Spirit as he sheds the old to reveal the new and an ever-increasing hunger to cease saying, “What about me?” in exchange for, “It’s all about you, Jesus!”

May we, as followers of Christ, endeavour to, daily, die to ourselves in order to live for Christ and those in need of our help and prayers.

Precious Father, I struggle each day to put myself aside and pursue the interests of others around me who may be hurting. Yet, you know the deeper longing of my heart that yearns to live a life that’s all about you. Help me shed this selfish skin to reach out in action and prayer for those in need. It is in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

Thank God often for his Spirit, who is working in you to transform you more and more into the image of Jesus (2 Corinthians 3.17).

April 21 Afternoon Quotes of The Day

“Sanctified Afflictions Are Spiritual Promotions”
Genesis 7:17–18

Observe, 1. The waters which broke down everything else bore up the ark. That which to unbelievers is a savour of death unto death is to the faithful a savour of life unto life. 2. The more the waters increased, the higher the ark was lifted up towards heaven. Thus sanctified afflictions are spiritual promotions; and as troubles abound consolations much more abound.

Humbly Bearing Blame and Discipline
Matthew 5:11–12; 24:45; Philippians 2:15; 1 Peter 3:16

Blessed is the servant who bears discipline, accusation, and blame from others as patiently as if they came from himself. Blessed is the servant who, when reproved, mildly submits, modestly obeys, humbly confesses, and willingly satisfies. Blessed is the servant who is not prompt to excuse himself and who humbly bears shame and reproof for sin when he is without fault.

If conditions do not radically improve soon, we are going to have a major agricultural disaster on our hands.

Did Either Chauvin or Floyd Get Justice?

Thanks to Democrat race-baiting, the guilty verdict doesn’t mean justice was reached.

Nate Jackson

After just a few hours of deliberation, a jury on Wednesday found Derek Chauvin guilty on every count in the death of George Floyd. It’s understandable that the former Minneapolis police officer was found guilty of second-degree manslaughter, but it also reeks of political pressure and mob rule that the jurors so quickly convicted him on the more serious but questionable charges of third-degree murder and even second-degree murder.

As everyone in America knows, last Memorial Day, then-Officer Chauvin used his knee to pin Floyd to the ground by the neck for nine minutes. Everyone also knows that Floyd was protesting that he couldn’t breathe.

What many folks still don’t know, however, thanks to a Leftmedia that is a dishonest subsidiary of the Democratic National Committee, is that Floyd was high on drugs, fought with police, and begged to be put on the ground instead of the squad car.

So, what are the takeaways from this quick conviction?

As we already implied, it’s questionable whether Chauvin murdered Floyd. Second-degree murder involves felony assault, which means the jury had to conclude that Chauvin’s technique in subduing a belligerent Floyd crossed that line. Chauvin did continue to pin Floyd to the ground after Floyd had passed out and even persisted for a minute after the ambulance arrived, but there were key comorbidities involved in Floyd’s death, including fentanyl and meth in his system, along with underlying health issues.

(The indispensable Andrew McCarthy, himself a former federal prosecutor, has a must-read column delving into these questions regarding the verdict.)

We noted shortly after Floyd’s death that Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison was strategically overcharging Chauvin. For Ellison, it was a win-win — either nail the “racist” cop, or “prove” the system was hopelessly racist when the officer was acquitted or convicted only of the lesser charges.

That said, the jury almost certainly felt pressured to reach this verdict. On top of Ellison’s charges and pronouncements, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, Minnesota Congresswoman Ilhan Omar, California Congresswoman Maxine Waters, Vice President Kamala Harris, President Joe Biden, and a host of other Democrats all to some degree pronounced Chauvin guilty even before the trial began — or in some cases during it. The judge in the trial specifically rebuked Waters, saying her incitement of violence for anything less than a full guilty verdict could taint the trial and provide fodder for an appeal.

At least Biden waited until the jury was sequestered for deliberations to say he was “praying” for the “right verdict,” the evidence for which he saw as “overwhelming.” Waters made her disgraceful comments while jurors were at home over the weekend. Part of the blame for that falls on the judge, who inexplicably declined to sequester jurors for the trial’s duration.

On top of the political influence was the death of Daunte Wright in a Minneapolis suburb — a suburb where at least one juror resides and others have connections.

Chauvin clearly has reason to appeal on grounds that the trial was not fair.

Leftists will conclude, and not without reason, that they were right to say what they said, and that such a pressure campaign — including the Burn, Loot, and Murder riots — are the only way “justice” can be achieved in a nation rife with “systemic racism.” They got the verdict they wanted, after all, and many literally cheered in the streets.

Yet systemic racism wasn’t on trial here; Chauvin was, and not for racism at that. In fact, racism was not a focal point in the trial. That won’t stop leftists from claiming vindication for their bogus claims of “systemic racism.” Indeed, Biden and Harris used those words five times in discussing the verdict.

“Systemic racism is a stain on our nation’s soul,” Biden declared. Harris added, “America has a long history of systemic racism.” Worse, she said, “Black Americans, and black men in particular, have been treated throughout the course of our history as less than human.”

Then there was the grotesque statement from House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. “Thank you, George Floyd,” she said, “for sacrificing your life for justice.” It was “heartbreaking” to hear Floyd “call out for your mom, ‘I can’t breathe,’” she added. “But because of you and because of thousands, millions of people around the world who came out for justice, your name will always be synonymous with justice.”

Apparently, Floyd’s life was a sacrifice Pelosi was willing to make. Her political charade included infamously kneeling while wearing the garb of African slave traders.

Pelosi’s nemesis, the radical Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, was no less reprehensible. “This verdict is not justice,” she declared. “I also don’t want this moment to be framed as this system working.”

The real shame of this trial is that no one will ever really know if the system worked. If there’s anything “systemic,” it’s the dishonest corruption of Democrats who foment urban violence among their black constituents in response to perceived injustice. They sow discord and racism everywhere while blaming the other side. Thus, this case will always be tainted by the distinct whiff of mob justice.

Fake Jim Crow Gets a Hearing

The Democrats shamefully tried to make the case that today’s voter reform laws are the modern-day equivalent of Jim Crow.

Douglas Andrews

What a difference a couple of blown Georgia Senate seats make.

When you’re in the majority, you get to not only call and chair your Senate hearings, you get to name them as well — even if the name you choose is itself a lie from the pits of hell.

Thus, due to the Senate-flipping election of Democrats Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock in Georgia on January 5, we’re now treated to the likes of the taxpayer-funded farce that was Tuesday’s Senate Judiciary Committee hearing titled “Jim Crow 2021: The Latest Assault on the Right to Vote.”

Jim Crow 2021 — you know, because asking for a picture ID in Atlanta in 2021 is just as racist as trotting out the poll taxes, the nightsticks, the firehoses, and the German shepherds in the Deep South of 60 years ago.

“That title alone,” writes Fred Lucas at The Daily Signal, “prompted some lawmakers, black and white, to take umbrage at trivializing a violent and bigoted era of American history. The focus of the Senate hearing was Georgia’s new election integrity law, which requires voters to present identification in submitting absentee ballots, such as a driver’s license number; codifies ballot drop boxes; and expands weekend voting.”

Utah Representative and former NFLer Burgess Owens, himself a black man whose dad was victimized by real Jim Crow laws, had this charade sussed all along: “True racism is this,” he said, “the projection of the Democratic Party on my proud race. It’s called the soft bigotry of low expectations.”

Not quite content, however, Owens added, “President Biden said of the Georgia law, ‘This is Jim Crow on steroids.’ With all due respect, Mr. President, you know better. It is disgusting and offensive to compare actual voter suppression and the violence of that era that we grew up in with a state law that only asks people to show their ID.”

There were other truth-tellers, too, such as Utah Senator Mike Lee, who noted, “[Jim Crow] was a system of laws designed to hold black Americans back, hold them back in part because white Democrats in the South didn’t want them to vote and didn’t like the fact that they were voting as and being elected as Republicans. Let’s not compare a voter registration law — one that makes sure dead people can’t vote — to that.”

Republican Senator Lindsey Graham even got Georgia’s race-baiting Stacey Abrams to admit that she supported voter ID laws and that voting should be restricted to American citizens. Quite a feat, that.

All in all, it was a good day for the Senate’s Republican minority and a good day for what former Supreme Court Justice Louis Brandeis might’ve dubbed the disinfecting power of sunlight.

In his landmark civil rights book The Strange Career of Jim Crow, Yale University history professor C. Vann Woodward said the pre-Civil Rights South’s Jim Crow statutes “lent the sanction of law to a racial ostracism that extended to churches and schools, to housing and jobs, to eating and drinking.” He added, “Whether by law or by custom, that ostracism extended to virtually all forms of public transportation, to sports and recreations, to hospitals, orphanages, prisons, and asylums, and ultimately to funeral homes, morgues, and cemeteries.”

We would do well — all of us — to remember that the real Jim Crow is long dead and buried, and we should deride at every turn the Left’s attempt to tie today’s modest voting reform efforts to that dark period of the distant past.

Finally, when President Joe Biden calls legitimate voting reform efforts “Jim Crow on steroids,” we should denounce him for doing violence to language and meaning. Further, we should denounce him for cheapening the currency of the term “Jim Crow” itself.

Whether Biden knows it or not, he’s rendering that term meaningless — just as his party has done to terms such as “racist” and “racism.”

For Black America: Patriotism, or Self-Imposed Exile?

Millions of individual blacks have a clear choice between bitterness or belonging.

Louis DeBroux

It is a cruel and hateful thing the Left does to black Americans, working relentlessly to convince them that America hates and oppresses them, when in reality there is no place on Earth where someone of African descent is more blessed to live — including Africa.

Is America’s past regarding race unblemished? Of course not! America was founded in 1776 (not 1619), and it took nearly another 100 years, and a war costing 600,000 lives, to force Democrats to free their slaves.

And it took another 100 years after that before enough moral pressure was brought to bear on Democrats to the point where they finally relented and accepted the idea of civil rights and social equality for black Americans.

So, America’s past is not stainless. What makes America unique is not that we tolerated slavery but that, embracing the Western ideals of the Enlightenment, we broke with thousands of years of human history and declared the forced bondage of one man to another to be a moral evil.

Today, America’s race-baiting social arsonists declare that America’s past sins make her irredeemable. If so, where should black Americans go to escape such evil?

To Africa, where slavery is still practiced today, civil wars rage, and tribal warlords murder their fellow Africans by the tens of thousands? Where poverty is rampant, and individual and property rights are often nonexistent?

How about communist China, which America’s Left adores? It’s hard to imagine a country that not only casually produces overtly racist commercials but that imprisons, rapes, castrates, forces abortions on, and murders more than a million of Uyghur minorities would be a more hospitable locale for black Americans.

And for blacks, Europe seems no better.

Maybe that’s why Glenn Loury, professor of economics at the prestigious (and liberal) Brown University, argues there is no better place in the world for blacks than America.

In his recent article, “The Case for Black Patriotism,” Loury argues, “There is a fashionable standoffishness characteristic of much elite thinking about blacks’ relationship to America. … Does this posture serve the interests, rightly understood, of black Americans? I think that it does not.”

Loury continues, “Indeed, a case can be made that the correct narrative to adopt today is one of unabashed black patriotism — a forthright embrace of American nationalism by black people. Black Americans’ birthright citizenship in what is arguably history’s greatest republic is an inheritance of immense value.”

Acknowledging America’s initial participation in the evil of slavery, he notes it was hardly unique in that regard. Slavery has been practiced among all cultures and races nearly as long as man has been on Earth.

Yet after the aforementioned war, and the passage of the 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments, as well as the Civil Rights Act of 1866 (which Republicans passed and Democrats overturned), and later the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, black Americans became full citizens, integrated into the national fabric.

If the consequences were not so dire; it would be hilarious to hear the racial grievance-mongering Left act as if blacks have never had it so bad as they do in modern America.

Of course, no sane person would accept the idea that black slaves of 1860s America, or segregated blacks of 1950s America, were somehow better off than blacks in America today, where not only do they have every right enjoyed by white Americans, but they often enjoy preferential treatment by politicians and woke CEOs tripping over themselves to prove how not racist they are.

The race hucksters would have us believe that a nation where Oprah Winfrey, Kanye West, Michael Jordan, Jay-Z, and Tyler Perry are billionaires, where the overwhelming majority of multimillionaire athletes in the NBA and the NFL are black, and where black artists dominate music charts and grow extravagantly wealthy selling their music to white kids is a nation where blacks are still oppressed and second-class citizens.

But race-hustling is lucrative, and a few blacks are getting quite rich by coercing guilt-ridden white liberals and corporations into ponying up hundreds of millions of dollars to their racial extortion scheme.

For example, Black Lives Matter cofounder and self-proclaimed Marxist Patrice Khan-Cullors has been exposed for acquiring millions of dollars of real estate in predominately white, affluent areas of Los Angeles and Atlanta. This type of personal enrichment on their backs isn’t sitting well with many blacks, including the families of blacks killed by police who are the focus of BLM’s hustling.

And therein lies the problem. If you are a black American living in Democrat-run major cities and states, where crime is rampant, poverty is high, murder is common, and educational choice is denied to poor black children, it’s understandable that you would see America as racist and oppressive.

The rest of America is not these Democrat-run poverty plantations.

Professor Loury notes there are five times as many Nigerians as there are black Americans, yet black Americans have twice the accumulated wealth.

In closing, Loury states, “The central issue, then, is a question of narrative. Are we going to look through the dark lens of the U.S. as a racist, genocidal, white supremacist, illegitimate force? Or are we going to see it for what it has become over the course of the last three centuries: the greatest force for human liberty on the planet?”

For black Americans, the answer will determine which ones partake of America’s bounty and opportunity, and which ones remain in self-imposed exile.

Leftists Cancel Another of Their Own

The American Humanist Association rescinded an award given to atheist Richard Dawkins over his failure to toe the “transgender” line.

Thomas Gallatin

The American Humanist Association, a leftist group of ardent atheists, issued an announcement Monday officially rescinding its “Humanist of the Year Award” presented in 1996 to that most strident of atheists, Richard Dawkins. So, what happened? Did Dawkins suddenly become a theist? Nope.

The AHA explains, “Regrettably, Richard Dawkins has over the past several years accumulated a history of making statements that use the guise of scientific discourse to demean marginalized groups, an approach antithetical to humanist values. His latest statement implies that the identities of transgender individuals are fraudulent, while also simultaneously attacking Black identity as one that can be assumed when convenient. His subsequent attempts at clarification are inadequate and convey neither sensitivity nor sincerity.”

While this couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy (sarcasm alert), the fact of the matter is that Dawkins is being excommunicated as a heretic from the Church of Woke over his failure to adhere to the Rainbow Mafia’s “transgender” dogma.

You see, recently Dawkins stated on social media, “In 2015, Rachel Dolezal, a white chapter president of the NAACP, was vilified for identifying as Black. Some men choose to identify as women, and some women choose to identify as men. You will be vilified if you deny that they literally are what they identify as. Discuss.”

The irony is thick. The AHA, which literally declares itself the champion of “freethinkers,” will not tolerate views that don’t align with the Church of Woke. The “science” absolutists will not follow the science when it runs counter to their “progressivism.” This exposes the fact that the humanism of AHA adherents is just as religious as the theistic faith-based religions they love to ridicule as backwards, unenlightened, and subjective.

Much the same can be said of Dawkins. All his attacks against the major monotheistic religions of Christianity, Judaism, and Islam stem from his own fervent “faith” in humanism, that secular religion whose current leadership can’t abide his commitment to the “old” and ironically Judeo-Christian concept of truth being absolute or unchanging. Since Dawkins has failed to see the “light” on “transgenderism,” he must be canceled. This is the inevitable end of the Left’s commitment to woke victimology — eventually it will destroy itself because all it does and can do is tear down.

Upright II: “Reparations are both condescending and counterproductive, and to go down that path perpetuates a harmful racial stereotype and further divides our nation. … First, it is impractical and logistically impossible. It is also unfair and heartless to give Black Americans hope that reparations are a reality. Second, debates on reparations do not represent the rich history of a proud and tenacious community, who, like those of my lineage, worked, studied and overcame to live the American Dream. Third, reparations teach separation and convey a narrative that Black Americans are a hopeless, hapless and oppressed race entitled to handouts. More Americans Now Fear “Illegal Immigration” Than COVID, New Poll Finds | ZeroHedge News

Authored by Ben Wilson via SaraACarter.com,

A new poll from Pew Research reveals that 48% of those polled believe illegal immigration “a very big problem,” while only 47% consider the coronavirus outbreak to their most pressing concern, which was a lower percentage of Americans than those polled last year.

“The survey finds that, for the most part, the public’s views of major problems facing the U.S. are little changed from about a year ago,” Pew Research said.

“However, the share of Americans saying the coronavirus is a very big problem has declined 11 percentage points since last June (from 58% to 47%), while the share citing illegal immigration has increased 20 points (from 28% to 48%).”

Those polled appeared to give their findings based on what political party lines.

“While views of most national problems are divided along partisan lines, including illegal immigration, increasing shares of both Republicans and Democrats rate illegal immigration as a very big problem. Nearly three-quarters of Republicans (72%) say illegal immigration is a major problem, up 29 points since last June. The share of Democrats who say this is a major problem is now 29%, compared with 15% nearly a year ago,” the poll findings said.

Interestingly, the issue of the federal deficit has changed in which political party views it as a problem.

Over this period, Republicans and Democrats have moved in opposite directions in concerns about the federal budget deficit. Currently, 71% of Republicans say the budget deficit is a very big problem; about half of Republicans (49%) said this in June 2020. By contrast, just 31% of Democrats rate the deficit as a major problem, down from 45% last year,” the report said.

‘We are not going to restrict freedom’: South Dakota governor is latest to ban 'un-American' vaccine passports

South Dakota became the latest state to officially ban vaccine passports, with Republican Governor Kristi Noem condemning them as “un-American” and freedom-restricting.

In a statement on Wednesday, Noem announced that she had signed an executive order banning “government-instituted” vaccine passports throughout the entirety of South Dakota.

“Since the start of the COVID pandemic, we have provided South Dakotans with up-to-date science, facts, and data and then trusted them to make the best decisions for themselves and their loved-ones,” declared Noem, claiming that South Dakota is “stronger” for having resisted government mandates during the pandemic.

WHO rejects Covid passport schemes over fears vaccines don’t stop virus transmission

“I encourage all South Dakotans to get vaccinated against COVID-19, but we are not going to mandate any such activity. And we are not going to restrict freedom with un-American policies like vaccine passports,” she continued, before concluding that the people will rule “under God” for as long as she is governor.

According to the executive order, no “state agency, department, board, commission, or other executive branch entity or official under direct control of the Governor shall require an individual to present a COVID-19 vaccine passport” to enter a government building or do business with the state. Nor should any agency, commission, or local government order a private business to mandate vaccine passports, the executive order said.

South Dakota joins several other states, including Florida, TexasArizonaIdaho, and Utah, which have also banned mandatory vaccine passports.

Though some of the states allow private businesses to implement their own vaccine requirements for customers, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis issued his own executive order banning businesses from asking customers for their vaccination status earlier this month.

DeSantis argued that vaccine passports “would create two classes of citizens,” and that a total ban is “necessary to protect the fundamental rights and privacies of Floridians and the free flow of commerce within the state.”

New York and Hawaii have both decided to launch a vaccine passport system, while internationally, Israel implemented its own system in March. The UK is also planning to introduce vaccine passports in the coming months, despite criticism and a petition against the idea receiving nearly 350,000 signatures.
