Why Sanctification Is Not Passive | Crossway by John MacArthur

God’s Will for Every Believer

Sanctification is absolutely essential to the life of faith—so much so that Scripture frequently treats holiness as the identifying mark of a true believer. Indeed, when the term saints (meaning “holy ones”) is used in Scripture, it refers not to dead luminaries whom the church has formally canonized but to living Christians—all the redeemed without exception. Paul writes “to those sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints together with all those who in every place call upon the name of our Lord Jesus Christ” (1 Cor. 1:2). Notice that he’s not talking about a special class of advanced sainthood. He’s underscoring the truth that all genuine believers are saints—holy people. A person who is utterly unsanctified is no Christian at all, no matter what verbal confession of faith he or she might make.

Sanctification Accordingly, in Acts 20:32, when Paul uses the expression “all those who are sanctified,” he is talking about the church universal. He first heard that expression from Christ himself, on the Damascus road, when he was commissioned as an apostle with these words:

Rise and stand upon your feet, for I have appeared to you for this purpose, to appoint you as a servant and witness to the things in which you have seen me and to those in which I will appear to you, delivering you from your people and from the Gentiles—to whom I am sending you to open their eyes, so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me. (Acts 26:16–18)

Thus Christ himself described Christians as those who put their faith in him and are thereby made holy. Scripture is equally clear that those who are unholy—unrepentant sinners, devoid of any desire for righteousness and lacking any true love for Christ—have no part with him. Real believers “strive . . . for the holiness without which no one will see the Lord” (Heb. 12:14). An unsanctified life is the mark of an unbeliever. The line of demarcation is clear:

Let no one deceive you. Whoever practices righteousness is righteous, as he is righteous. Whoever makes a practice of sinning is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil. No one born of God makes a practice of sinning, for God’s seed abides in him, and he cannot keep on sinning, because he has been born of God. By this it is evident who are the children of God, and who are the children of the devil: whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God. (1 John 3:7–10)

False Doctrine

Naturally, then, the New Testament is filled with exhortations, instructions, encouragements, commandments, and reminders for believers to strive toward holiness. Despite what you may have heard from the purveyors of popular deeper-life doctrines, we are never encouraged to be passive in the process of sanctification. Scripture does not tell us to “let go and let God.” The Bible never promises any easy, automatic victory over sin and temptation.

The notion that sanctification happens with no effort on our part when we passively surrender the fight is a popular, persistent myth—and it’s a dangerously false doctrine. In fact, it’s the very antithesis of what the Bible teaches. It’s reminiscent of the strategic error Moses made when the Israelites arrived at the Red Sea. He told them, “Fear not, stand firm, and see the salvation of the Lord, which he will work for you today. . . . The Lord will fight for you, and you have only to be silent” (Ex. 14:13–14). The Lord responded with a firm word of correction: “Why do you cry to me? Tell the people of Israel to go forward” (Ex. 14:15).

The notion that sanctification happens with no effort on our part when we passively surrender the fight is a popular, persistent myth.

Similarly, Scripture repeatedly urges Christians to move forward—“press on toward the goal” (Phil. 3:14)—in our quest for holiness: “Beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from every defilement of body and spirit, bringing holiness to completion in the fear of God” (2 Cor. 7:1). “For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you abstain from sexual immorality; that each one of you know how to control his own body in holiness and honor, not in the passion of lust like the Gentiles who do not know God. . . . For God has not called us for impurity, but in holiness. Therefore whoever disregards this, disregards not man but God, who gives his Holy Spirit to you” (1 Thess. 4:3–8). “Our great God and Savior Jesus Christ . . . gave himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for himself a people for his own possession who are zealous for good works” (Titus 2:13–14). After all, “now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the fruit you get leads to sanctification and its end, eternal life” (Rom. 6:22).

The New Testament is replete with exhortations like that. Yet despite the high priority given to the subject by Christ and by Scripture, sanctification is a conspicuously missing emphasis in today’s evangelical preaching.

May 7 Evening Quotes of The Day

People Will Either Worship God or an Idol
Isaiah 44:9–20; Ezekiel 14:4; Acts 17:22–30; Romans 1:22–23

If man does not give his highest respect to the God that made him, there will be something else that has the possession of it. Men will either worship the true God, or some idol. It is impossible it should be otherwise; something will have the heart of man. And that which a man gives his heart to may be called his god.

Wicked Actions Affect the Understanding
Romans 1:18–25; Ephesians 4:17–19; 1 Timothy 1:19

Those who do not serve God with a sincere and perfect heart but give a loose rein to wicked dispositions, even though at first they had a sound understanding, come to lose it altogether.

Self-Denial Leads to Happiness — The Fight of Faith

If anyone would come after Me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow Me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will save it. – Luke 9:23-24

This law of the dying of self, and the magnifying of Christ is the secret of Christian peace. When Christ is small, and self is large, life cannot be deeply restful. Everything annoys us. We grow impatient of whatever breaks our comfort. We grieve over little trials. We find causes for discontent in merest trifles. We resent whatever would hinder or oppose us. There is no blue sky in the ‘picture’ of which self is the center!

But when self decreases and Christ increases, then the life of friction and worry is changed into quietness and peace. When the glory of Christ streams over this little, cramped, fretted, broken life of ours, peace comes, and the love of Christ brightens every spot and sweetens all bitterness. Trials are easy to bear when self is small, and Christ is large.

This lesson has its very practical bearing on all our common, every-day life. Naturally, we want to have our own way. We like to carry out our own plans and ambitions. We are apt to feel, too, that we have failed in life, when we cannot realize these hopes. But this is the world’s standard! The successful worldling is the one who is able to master all life’s circumstances, and make them serve him.

But the greatest thing possible in any life is to have the divine plan for it fulfilled, even though it thwarts every human hope and dashes away every earthly dream. It is not easy for us to learn this lesson, that God’s ways are always better for us than our own!

We make our little plans and begin to carry them out. We think we have all things arranged for our greatest happiness and our best good. Then God’s plan breaks in upon ours, and we look down through our tears upon the shattered fragments of our fine plans! All seems wreck, loss, and disaster! But no, it is only God’s larger, wiser, better plan, displacing our little, imperfect, short-sighted one!

It is true, that God really thinks about our lives and has a purpose of His own for them, a place He would have us fill, a work He would have us do. It seems when we think of it, that this is scarcely possible, that each one of the lives of His countless children should be personally and individually thought about by the Father. Yet we know that this is true of the least and lowliest of believers. Surely if God cares enough for us to make a plan for our life, a heavenly plan; it must be better than any plan of ours could be! It is a high honor, therefore, for His plan to take the place of ours, whatever the cost and the pain may be to us!

What to Do When You Sin — Randy Alcorn’s Blog

How to handle sin in a God-honoring way isn’t often clearly addressed in the church. So what steps should I take in order to deal with sin? First, I must admit my sin to myself. I need to call sin what it is: sin, not just a mistake or a little slip. I must quit rationalizing and making excuses. Jesus died for our sins, not our excuses for our sins.

Second, I must confess my sin to God. Since He knows about it already, the purpose is not to inform Him. It is to verbally agree with God that what I have done is, in fact, sin. Proverbs 28:13 says, “Whoever conceals his transgressions will not prosper, but he who confesses and forsakes them will obtain mercy.”

Though we are forgiven by Christ of our past sins, including some we don’t remember, we are called upon to confess our sins as we become aware of them: “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9). (This article assumes those reading have already accepted Christ’s offer of salvation. If you never have, I encourage you to read more here.)

It may seem confusing that we must continue to confess recent sins in order to experience new and fresh forgiveness. But while we have a settled once-and-for-all forgiveness in Christ, we also have a current ongoing relationship with Him that is hampered by unconfessed sin.

Remember, God has seen us at our worst, and He still loves us. Arms wide open, He invites our confession and repentance, which He always meets with His grace and forgiveness.

Third, as a part of my admission and confession, I must genuinely repent. True confession is not a begrudging or flippant admission of wrongdoing, but an expression of guilt, regret, and desire and intention to change. It always points us to Jesus, our Savior.

I’ve had people tell me they were sorry for adultery yet refuse to quit seeing their partner in adultery. Actually, their sorrow is for sin’s consequences, not for sin. They admitted something—but they confessed nothing.

Fourth, there is a place in the family and church to confess my sins not only to God but also to others (James 5:16). Two cautions should be exercised in such confession: first, it is made to those who have actually been hurt by the behavior (this may or may not include a whole church body), and second, details should be shared only as necessary. God has no problem forgetting the details, but people do. Why etch on their minds images that will be hard or impossible to shake?

But once confessed and repented of, sin should be put behind us. We should embrace God’s forgiveness. David described it this way: “Happy are those to whom the Lord imputes no iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no deceit” (Psalm 32:2, NRSV).

When I was a boy, I had a golden retriever named Champ. Whenever we gave him a bone, he’d chew it until it was bare, then take off to bury it. But once it was buried, he would never let it lie. Every day, sometimes several times a day, he would make his rounds, going to every buried bone—dozens of them—and digging them up to chew on some more. Then he’d bury them again, only to repeat the process until the day he died.

Unlike my dog, God buries our sins and lets them lie; He never digs them up (Micah 7:18-19). Like my dog, however, sometimes we do. We dig up old sins, chew on them, confess them again, and bury them—but in a shallow grave whose location we memorize for convenient access.

We do this not only to ourselves, but others. We piously say, “I forgive you,” but dig up old sins to chew on at our pity parties, wave in front of others as gossip, or use as weapons of revenge or tools to barter and manipulate. In doing so, we become obsessed with sin instead of the Savior. We give more credit to its power than to His.

(One clarification: the Bible teaches not only forgiveness of our sins but also consequences of our choices. Forgiveness means that God eliminates our eternal condemnation and guilt. But it does not mean that our actions in this life have no consequences on earth. Forgiven people can still contract an STD or go to jail for drunk driving, for example. And forgiving those who wronged us does not mean giving them opportunity to hurt or harm us or preventing them from experiencing sin’s built-in consequences.)

Once confessed, our sins should be forgotten. We should choose to dwell on them no longer:

Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus (Philippians 3:13-14).

An evil man is ensnared in his transgression, but a righteous man sings and rejoices (Proverbs 29:6).

How secure are we in God’s love? Jesus said, “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand” (John 10:27-28).True happiness can come only in realizing sin, admitting it, and seeking the only solution—the forgiveness of Jesus based on His redemptive work. In forgiveness alone we can have relational oneness with God and, hence, enduring happiness

May 7 – The turning point — Reformed Perspective

I have trusted in your steadfast love; my heart shall rejoice in your salvation. I will sing to the LORD, because he has dealt bountifully with me. – Psalm 13:5-6

Scripture readings: Psalm 13Daniel 1:18-21

The experience of the people of Judah in exile was not a happy one. They would suffer indignities and distress. They would weep on account of their wrongdoings and they would watch as the temptations of Babylonian life swept away many of their brothers who left the faith.

Would they always be troubled? The experience of Daniel and his three friends declares quite clearly: no, it will not always be so! It is God’s sovereign will to save His people! Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah’s gifts from God are revealed to a watching world and He grants them all favour with King Nebuchadnezzar.

This is a turning point – a moment when the blessing is visible again for God’s people. They are in exile, but the Lord is now acting to deliver Daniel and his friends from the expected outcome of their time in the training grounds. In Daniel 1:9 we read that, “God gave Daniel favour and compassion in the sight of the eunuchs.” It stands out as a relief and a delight to read of the LORD again showing favour and compassion to His people after all that they have (deservedly) gone through! I’m reminded of the question of the psalmist who cries to the LORD in Psalm 13, “Will you forget me forever?” And the psalm reflects on the turning point we all face in our lives when we remember that, “He has dealt bountifully with me.”

The Shepherd’s Voice — Daily Devotionals by Thoughts about God

“My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.”  John 10:27

President George W. Bush commented that if you ever felt really special or powerful, try bossing someone else’s dog around. Unless you are his master, that dog could care less how powerful you are.

Sheep are the same way. They know the shepherd’s voice. Even today in the Middle East, a shepherd will go into a crowded sheepfold, and his own sheep recognize his voice and follow him. They know the shepherd will literally lay down his life for his sheep. They will follow him wherever he leads.

In this verse, (John 10:27) Jesus is comparing those who follow Him as the Son of God with the sheep who follows the shepherd. The shepherd knows his sheep. Jesus says, “I know My sheep, and am known by My own.”

Both the Shepherd and the sheep are aware of this, and it enables the Shepherd to lead His sheep in the best possible way, helping them to learn what He teaches and to do what He commands.

Being known by and knowing the Shepherd implies that, not only do they know His voice, but they have an intimate understanding of the way He thinks and are inclined to reflect His way of doing things. Their imitation of the Shepherd becomes automatic because the sheep anticipate his will. They become one with the Shepherd.

Sheep need to be led. Unlike other animals, sheep rarely find their own way safely. Since sheep go astray, their guidance and safety lies in the Shepherd’s leadership A thief, a robber, or a stranger may call the sheep by name and try to imitate their Shepherd’s voice, but through long usage and intimacy, they can discern a strange voice and become alarmed.

With a large number of sheep, the true Shepherd may shelter them in many pens, but they are still all His sheep and all one flock. The flock does not create this unity, but because the nature of the sheep is in harmony with their Shepherd, and because their relationship to Him is intimate, they recognize and obey His voice.

As Christians, Jesus is our shepherd and we are his sheep. In a world competing with many voices, we should listen for His voice alone and follow Him wherever He leads, guides, protects us and where He gave His life for our eternal salvation.

He Is Faithful To Lead Us — Daily Devotionals by Thoughts about God

“I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you” Psalms 32:8

Your life is like a treasure map, and you are on a journey of discovery. As you follow after God you will see that it is not a specific destination that is most important. Each stop along the way is created by God to show you more of Himself.

Be blessed as you follow His faithful guidance. He will teach you His ways and make you sensitive to His hand on your life. Be blessed with assurance that you don’t go anywhere today without your personal Guide. Be blessed with His open door before you that no one can shut, according to His sovereign will, and with closed doors that are outside His purposes for you (Revelation 3:7-8). May the blessing of His presence lead your spirit.

Wherever you go, God promises “Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, ‘This is the way; walk in it’” (Isaiah 30:21). Be blessed as you hear Him whisper direction, “This is the way. Walk this way.” If His word is to fight, let it be for His glory. If He says to wait, let it be with hope and grace, secure in His timing and sovereign hand. If His word is to flee, let it be with His permission and at His direction. If He tells you to offer a sacrifice of praise, let it be with thanksgiving that is sweet to Him.

Be blessed to be confident that He is working out all things for good, whether you see it or feel it now. His eyes are open to all your ways (Jeremiah 32:19). Let your expectation be centered in Him (Psalms 62:1&5). Receive His peace as He directs your paths. He promises that He will keep in perfect peace those whose eyes are fixed on Him, because you trust in Him (Isaiah 26:3).

Lovers of the Kingdom, Not the Cross
Matthew 10:38; 16:24; Mark 8:34; 10:21; Luke 9:23

Jesus always has many who love His heavenly kingdom, but few who bear His cross.

Adorned with Spiritual Ornaments
Luke 7:25; 1 Timothy 2:9–10; 1 Peter 3:3–5

Let us … adorn ourselves with spiritual ornaments, that is to say, with chastity, humility, meekness, obedience, patience, and charity. These form the clothing in which the soul will be pleasing in the sight of the Heavenly King.

Christian, You’re Engulfed In An All-Out Spiritual Battle. Are You Prepared? — Christian Research Network

“A growing number of professing Christians see themselves as social justice warriors. These folks embrace religious pluralism, the belief that each religion is equally valid, and that all roads lead to God (universalism). For over 2,000 years biblical Christianity has held that there’s one way to God, through Jesus Christ. (John 3:16) Let’s be clear. These people are progressive-liberals who say they’re Christians even though they reject historic Christianity’s long-held traditions, doctrines and creeds.”

(Marsha West – Christian Research Network)  For years I’ve been saying that America is in an all-out spiritual battle. Kids vs. Parents…Sexual deviancy vs. Virtue…Hollywood vs. Family values…Filth vs. Decency…Pro-death vs. Pro-life…Moral relativism vs. Absolute truth…Christian liberalism vs. Christian orthodoxy…Atheism vs. Theism…Evolution vs. Creation…Big government vs. Free enterprise.

You’d think that because of the downright wickedness we’re dealing with in our morally bankrupt culture, Christ followers would wear the whole armor of God 24/7. What I’m referring to is the spiritual armor Paul advises believers to “put on.” Based on this admonition it would seem only a fool would fail to heed Paul’s advice.  In Ephesians 6:1-19, he lays out how to arm ourselves to fight the unseen forces of evil. If we yield for a second, we give them the advantage.

This world is engulfed in an ongoing battle between the spiritual forces of good and evil, evil being Satan and his demons. Our enemy’s goal is “to deface the heavenly image in our hearts.” Therefore, we must be prepared to “stand firm” against them. Paul wants God’s people to understand that our enemy is not flesh and blood, we’re wrestling with the rulers, the authorities, the cosmic powers over this present darkness, the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Even though the battle will be ongoing for as long as we remain on this planet, Paul offers hope:

…in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him that loved us. For I am persuaded, that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 8:37)

Demons are under the power of Satan (Mat. 12:24). They have the ability to possess and control those who are unsaved. (Mat. 8:28-34) They can cause sickness (Mat. 12:22); insanity (Luke 8:26-36); bodily injury (Mark 9:14-26); long term infirmities (Luke 13:11-13). Yes, God has allowed Satan some powers; nonetheless, turncoat angels remain servants of God and can only work within the boundaries that God defines.

For those who are doubtful that demons exist, let me ask you a simple question. Why did the Son of God give the apostles power over evil spirits if they’re not real? According to Scripture, the apostles had the authority to cast out demons. (Mark 16:17,18Luke 10:17Acts 5:168:716:16-1819:12) Likewise, the existence of cosmic powers is testified to in the account of Satan tempting Jesus in the wilderness.

The Spirit immediately drove him out into the wilderness.  And he was in the wilderness forty days, being tempted by Satan. And he was with the wild animals, and the angels were ministering to him. (Mark 1:12-13)

And Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit in the wilderness. For forty days, being tempted by the devil. And he ate nothing during those days. And when they were ended, he was hungry. (Luke 4:1-2)

As you can see, the Son of God was fully prepared before facing down the enemy. Clearly, Satan isn’t imaginary!

Jesus is the ultimate authority on how to deal with demons.  How did He respond to Satan’s temptation? His weapon was the Sword of the Spirit – the Word of God!  Here’s what happened, in part:

Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. And after fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. And the tempter came and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, command these stones to become loaves of bread.” But he answered, “It is written, “‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”

Then the devil took him to the holy city and set him on the pinnacle of the temple and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down, for it is written, “‘He will command his angels concerning you,’ and “‘On their hands they will bear you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone.’” (Matthew 4:2-6)

Derek Thomas observes:

Christ, in his resurrection, proclaims his triumph, not only over death, but over Satan too. From the moment he began his public ministry, his intention to defeat Satan is announced by the Spirit’s (yes, the Spirit’s) driving of him into the wilderness to face Satan in three successive assaults. These temptations, whilst they may have something to say too us as we face temptations, must be understood primarily as a declaration of war by Jesus against the forces of darkness.  pp 51, Praying the Savior’s Way.

The account of Jesus facing Satan in the wilderness was a declaration of war!

Who’s Teaching You?

Now the Spirit expressly says that in later times some will depart from the faith by devoting themselves to deceitful spirits and teachings of demons. (1 Timothy 4:1)

What sort of things do demons teach us? Lies combined with truth. Evil spirits have convinced those who profess to know Christ to believe wolves in sheep’s clothing! (Slow-witted demons are superior in intelligence to a human “genius” because angles, even fallen angels, were created as an order of creatures higher than humans, which means they possess greater knowledge.)

It is clear from Scripture that a spiritual battle has been ongoing from the beginning of Creation – and most humans are unaware that a battle’s taking place. Because we can’t see what’s going on with the naked eye, we don’t take it seriously.  So I have a few questions…

Who’s the mastermind behind removing God from the public square?  You guessed it.

Who’s the mastermind behind the moral cesspool in America and Western Europe? Is there any doubt?

Who’s the mastermind behind seeing that Christianity is irrelevant?  None other.

For satanic forces to accomplish the cultural decay we’re currently observing they must control the minds of individuals who hold positions of power — and it is apparent that even some highly regarded leaders in the visible Church are under Satan’s control.

You may be thinking, “Rubbish!” That’s because even professing Christians cannot accept the reality that angels and demons are battling it out. Which is fine.  However, if my understanding of Scripture is rubbish, you’re welcome to share your view of what’s behind the moral collapse that is unlike anything our nation has experienced in the past.

Socialism In America

If progressive-liberals (including Christian Progressives) have their way, this country will soon be a socialist state. So I ask you brethren, how will a godless government that controls businesses, education and our healthcare system–and the minds of the masses—benefit future generations? Under totalitarian rule, and that’s what socialism leads to, what will our country look like 50 years from now?

Under the guise of “fairness” a bunch of Robin Hood do-gooders think they have the right to rob the “haves” and give what’s been stolen from them to the “have-nots.” This is commonly called redistribution of wealth. Redistributing wealth is unbiblical and it is out right theft!

Big Government is hell-bent on controlling our lives and our hard-earned money.  Big Government is taxing Americans to death — and unelected bureaucrats, not our elected representatives, determine where a great deal of our money is spent. I for one prefer to decide where my money is spent, especially when it comes to the arts, charities and healthcare.

Political Correctness On Steroids

America, Canada, and Western European countries are dealing with political correctness on steroids.  Woe to anyone who offends their fellow man’s sensibilities.  Correction!  Fellow person’s sensibilities.

Ever notice how individuals who utter a politically incorrect word or phrase are attacked and not given the benefit of the doubt?  Critics will set aside a rational and brilliant argument and go all out to destroy the offending individual’s reputation and credibility! It matters not if it’s just a slip of the tongue, which often happens.  The offender will be labeled a bigot, racist, homophobe, hateful or worse.  From then on Joe Blow is known as the guy who said____  You fill in the blank.  Both the Left and the Right are guilty of this, by the way.  And the “PC police” bully anyone—anyone—who refuses to conform.

A growing number of professing Christians see themselves as social justice warriors. These folks embrace religious pluralism, the belief that each religion is equally valid, and that all roads lead to God (universalism). For over 2,000 years biblical Christianity has held that there’s one way to God, through Jesus Christ. (John 3:16) Let’s be clear. These people are progressive-liberals who say they’re Christians even though they reject historic Christianity’s long-held traditions, doctrines and creeds. Moreover, Progressive (Social Justice) “Christians” celebrate unbiblical practices and ungodly behavior in the name of tolerance and unity. In our postmodern, moral relativistic, anything goes, live and let live houses of worship, even those shepherds who are supposed to guard the sheep are too cowardly to teach what the Bible says about heaven and hell.  So, if all religions lead to God, does that mean unrepentant tyrants, mass murderers, serial rapists, pedophiles, prostitutes, drug dealers and animal abusers will go to heaven? What about atheists and those who say they’d rather go to hell than heaven because that’s where their friends are?  Will God-haters go to heaven, too?  Is Judas there?

No.  Unrepentant sinners will not inherit the Kingdom of God.  If there’s one thing Christianity is not known for, it’s all-inclusiveness. What irks people the most about the Christian religion is its claim that it has the only truth.  Christianity also makes the claim that Jehovah is the One true God and that all other gods–and all other religions–are counterfeit. “He who has the Son has the life” said the Apostle John. “He who does not have the Son of God does not have the life.” (1 John 5:12)  According to Holy Writ, anyone (including good people) who do not believe that Jesus paid the penalty for their sins on the cross are going to remain separated from the Father in heaven – permanently.  “And you were dead in the trespasses and sins in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience…” (Ephesians 2:1-2)  Sin separates us from God, Christ reconciles us to Himself.

Religious pluralism is an oxymoron, brethren!  Diversity is not tolerant, in fact it’s just the opposite. It’s glaringly hypocritical.  Is it possible to have a personal God (Christianity) and an impersonal God (Islam) at the same time?  No.  Can a person “die once and after that face the judgment” (Christianity) and also die and be reincarnated (Hinduism)? No. Can Jesus Christ be the Son of God (Christianity) and a mere prophet (Islam)? No. Either Jesus Christ is God incarnate and rules the universe as Christians believe, or He was just a man. And if he was just a man, he was a liar and a nut job!

C. S. Lewis made the following argument in his bestselling book Mere Christianity:

I am trying here to prevent anyone saying the really foolish thing that people often say about Him: I’m ready to accept Jesus as a great moral teacher, but I don’t accept his claim to be God. That is the one thing we must not say. A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic—on the level with the man who says he is a poached egg—or else he would be the Devil of Hell. You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the Son of God, or else a madman or something worse. You can shut him up for a fool, you can spit at him and kill him as a demon or you can fall at his feet and call him Lord and God, but let us not come with any patronizing  commonsense about his being a great human teacher. (pp 55-56)

The point I’m making is that this is “doublethink.” Doublethink causes a person to simultaneously believes in two contradictory ideas. For example: same difference, spendthrift, perfect idiot, and my personal favorite, Southern Baptist Buddhist.

For the sake of diversity virtually everything society once thought of as perverted behavior is now seen by many as normal and acceptable.  Not surprisingly Christians are expected to go along with these societal changes. If they choose not to, they’re ridiculed and bullied.

The Bible is the roadmap that shows followers of Jesus how to live their lives. Believers are not to embrace the world’s wicked ways. We’re called to be holy, not to mimic society. We shouldn’t even want to fit in. But, sadly, ministers of God desire to be relevant. They want to be hip and trendy like Hollywood celebrities, so they get their body parts pierced and inked, wear ripped jeans, even use foul language. If the Apostles were alive today, would they care about being relevant? Um…no. Being viewed as relevant isn’t God’s plan for a shepherd’s life.

God’s people are not to conform to the world – we are to be the light of the world! (Mat. 5:14-15) We are here to glorify God in all we say and do. So, Christian, how are you doing right now?

Trevor Noah: “Why Are People Who Get The Vaccine Still Being Made To Wear Masks?”
Comedian Trevor Noah raged against health authorities in the U.S. insisting that people who have received the vaccine will still be subject to COVID-19 restrictions, arguing this will discourage others from getting the jab. The CDC recently released new guidelines outlining how even those who get the vaccine should still wear masks and practice social distancing in a number of situations. “The really frustrating thing…is that they’ve spent months, they’ve spent 5 months telling us to get vaccinated – ‘oh get vaccinated and this will all be over’ – and I was like great, I’ll get all four vaccines if it means I’ll get my life back,” said Noah. “But now they’re putting out a chart and it says even if you get vaccinated, you can only do two more things without a mask on – two!” “Guys, what the hell?

‘Oddball supernova’ reveals star’s death throes before exploding
Stars experience very violent lives that usually end in dazzling explosions, and scientists have tried for years to determine what happens to massive stars just before this bombastic finale. Now, an unusual supernova is helping researchers piece more of that stellar puzzle together. An international team of researchers used NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope to observe a massive yellow star 2.5 years before it exploded in a supernova. The star was located 35 million light-years from Earth in the Virgo galaxy cluster.

Government Funds the Labor Shortage

Lavish unemployment benefits (a.k.a. income redistribution) are creating economic trouble.

Michael Swartz

The U.S. added 266,000 jobs in April, which sounds great until you realize that economists were giddily predicting one million new jobs. Axios reports that is “the biggest miss, relative to expectations, in decades.”

If that wasn’t bad enough, March’s numbers were revised downward from 916,000 to 770,000.

All Joe Biden had to do was take the baton from Donald Trump’s stellar pandemic recovery and run with it. Instead, he’s stumbling up the stairs.

While the unemployment rate makes its slow recovery from the pandemic, rising to 6.1% instead of dropping to 5.8%, one aspect of the government unemployment benefits is drawing scrutiny because it’s exacerbating the problem.

After millions of Americans lost their jobs last year thanks to the China Virus-inspired and state-imposed lockdowns, the federal government adopted a relatively novel concept: Our Washington caretakers supplied the cash to supplement state unemployment benefits by $600 a week while expanding the universe of those who could collect unemployment benefits to include several classes of workers who previously would not qualify, such as those who are self-employed, independent contractors, or people who didn’t have enough time at the job. All of these people suddenly became the recipients of $600 a week from the federal government to go along with the benefits for which their state deemed they qualified. (Some states were more lenient in that regard than others.)

While that extra cash has since declined to $300 a week, initially there was some symbolism in the amount. It just so happens that $600 is the exact gross pay for a worker who toils 40 hours a week at that magical wage of $15 per hour.

That became a bit of a problem, however, since many of those who received these benefits were making less than $15 an hour at the job from which they were furloughed. The government was paying them more to not work than their job was to clock in every day.

Thus, the Wall Street Journal reports, “In a red-hot economy coming out of a pandemic and lockdowns, with unemployment still far higher than it was pre-Covid, the country is in a striking predicament. Businesses can’t find enough people to hire.” The anecdotal evidence is certainly there. Ask any restauranteur near you if he’s been able to find enough workers.

James Freeman, also of the Journal, says we’re in the middle of the worst worker shortage ever. Factors include closed schools and continued fear of COVID, but the elephant in the room is “supplemental unemployment benefits that discourage work.”

Naturally, there were studies last summer revealing that this additional payment would be a disincentive to go back to work, though others contended that most workers who returned to work were taking a pay cut to return to their job because they realized the benefits were temporary. (Again, it was relative since states often waived the requirement that recipients return to their old job based on self-reported health or family issues.) In the latter study, it’s worth noting that the author, Ernie Tedeschi, now works for the Council of Economic Advisers in the Biden administration.

Some states, however, have seen enough and are siding with those who believe the supplemented unemployment payment is a disincentive to work. Florida will soon require proof that residents receiving unemployment benefits are actually looking for work, a stipulation waived during the pandemic. “Normally when you’re getting unemployment, the whole idea is that’s temporary, and you need to be looking for work to be able to get off unemployment,” Governor Ron DeSantis said. “It was a disaster [at the beginning of the pandemic], so we suspended those job search requirements. I think it’s pretty clear now, we have an abundance of job openings.”

South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster is taking similar action to cease special COVID provisions regarding unemployment.

And the state of Montana announced this week that it will no longer add the $300 weekly subsidy after June 27. However, the state’s stick comes with the carrot of a $1,200 bonus for workers who are currently unemployed to find a job and retain it for four weeks. The funding for that program comes from federal COVID relief money allocated to states in March.

While Montana is taking a necessary step by eliminating the subsidy, one gets the sense that the side of rationality is losing the argument. If you think a little outside the box, ask yourself why the federal government came up with the idea of paying a direct and bigger subsidy to a larger group of recipients as opposed to shoring up state unemployment insurance funds and simply extending benefits for months as it did a decade ago during the Great Recession.

There’s a deeper problem, though.

You may not remember Democrat 2020 presidential candidate Andrew Yang, but his main platform plank — one that kept him in the race through the New Hampshire primary — was that of universal basic income. It’s not really a new idea, though. The stimulus payments sent out by both Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama softened resistance to the later checks from Presidents Donald Trump and Joe Biden — making it four presidents in a row who have sent out a special government stimulus check during economic downturns. Now add to this the enhanced unemployment benefits and we continue to build the expectation that one of Uncle Sam’s primary jobs is to assist people financially.

Thanks to the avalanche of government money, if there is a crisis and shortage in this country, it may be that of work ethic. Trust us, we all pray for a “prove us wrong” moment on that one.

The Six Trillion Dollar Man

Joe Biden’s spending schemes are aimed at restructuring major facets of American life.

Nate Jackson

The supposedly “moderate” Joe Biden is systematically enacting the leftist agenda of the most radical members of his party. CNN incoherently calls it “moderate radicalism.” Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez says he has “definitely exceeded the expectations” of the far Left. Indeed, if she were president, would the bill for federal spending actually be much higher, or would the agenda be any further left? It’s hard to tell.

Already this year, President Biden has proposed $6 trillion in new spending, above and beyond the normal budget. The Six Trillion Dollar Man and his party truly seem to want to remake the economy — from not-COVID relief to not-infrastructure spending to using his “American Families Plan” (AFP) to have the federal government replace the family. It’s cradle-to-grave government, and it destroys the fabric of our constitutional Republic — not to mention handicapping the jobs market.

How is Biden doing this? Well, for example, his AFP includes $200 billion to take young children from their parents even earlier, putting them in government preschools — for “free.” If you prefer not sending your rug rats to preschool, there’s money for childcare. Or, if you’d prefer to stay home, there’s paid family leave. And if you’d like to continue your child’s education after 13 15 years of government work, there’s $109 billion for two years of “free” community college. Anything for trade schools or vocational training? Nope.

Biden and other Democrats have so thoroughly redefined the word “infrastructure” that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is calling the AFP “personal infrastructure.” Others call it “human infrastructure.” We call it good old-fashioned income redistribution.

By the way, in order to bring on a handful of Republicans for the veneer of “bipartisanship,” or to at least assuage the concerns of a few nervous Democrats, Biden & Co. are pitching breaking up the infrastructure bill into smaller pieces so it doesn’t seem too radical.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell has a counterproposal: “We’re open to doing a roughly $600 billion package which deals with what all of us agree is infrastructure and to talk about how to pay for that in any way other than reopening the 2017 tax-reform bill,” he said. “If it’s going to be about infrastructure, let’s make it about infrastructure.”

Meanwhile, there’s one glaring exception to Biden’s spending binge and “infrastructure” redefinition: national defense. This is one of the few spending areas specifically authorized by the Constitution, yet Democrats regularly give it short shrift because it cuts into their voter-buying welfare state. Yes, there’s a 1.6% increase in the Pentagon’s budget in Biden’s proposal, but the intrepid economists inhabiting the Beltway keep telling us inflation is right around 2% (insert maniacal laughter here), which means the Pentagon’s spending power actually goes down.

It’s difficult in this limited space to encapsulate just how detrimental Biden’s spending plans really are. But Wall Street Journal columnist Daniel Henninger takes a stab at explaining the big picture. “The Democratic Party has given up on the American dream,” he says. “This isn’t about the culture wars or standard Keynesian stimulus spending. The Biden plan is about public policies that will redesign American society.”

Trillions of dollars spent to “eradicate” poverty since the Great Society haven’t worked. Yet Democrats keep doing the same things and expecting different results.

Ultimately, Democrats are also redefining the word “entitlement.” Well, not so much redefining it as refusing to use it to describe their big initiatives to create government dependency. That’s what this $6 trillion is all about.

What Crisis? Deportations Down, Illegal Crossings Surge

The border crisis is merely a media creation, Psaki disingenuously claims.

Thomas Gallatin

There’s no illegal immigration border crisis. At least that’s what White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki insisted again this week. She chalked up all this “crisis” talk to disingenuous spin from media outlets seeking to create clickbait headlines. “Really what we had to be focused on was what we were going to do about it, and to us it’s like, that wasn’t really a crisis, it was a huge challenge. But a really big driver was we understand and know the nature of some components of social media and media these days, and we just didn’t want to feed into that on this issue or really any issue.” In other words, it’s a made-up crisis, and there’s no “there” there.

If only that darn media were more favorable to the Biden administration. Oh, wait.

In any case, the Democrat senator from Arizona begs to differ with Psaki. Kyrsten Sinema called on the Biden administration to “do more” to address the surge of illegals crossing the border. “The reality is that this is a crisis,” Sinema asserted. “We all know it, and the federal government must do more to address this surge of migrants who are coming to the border with increasing numbers each year.” Sinema relayed from her own personal experience that she knows “firsthand how Arizona, especially our small border communities, have been paying the price for our federal government’s failure to fix our system over the past several decades.”

Meanwhile, even as the number of illegals caught crossing the border in March broke a 15-year record (more than 170,000 people), the Biden administration is decreasing the number of criminal alien deportations. The Washington Post notes, “The number of deportations carried out by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement last month fell to the lowest monthly level on record, a drop that comes as illegal border crossings remain at a 20-year high.”

And why has this happened? It can be tied to Joe Biden’s narrowing of criminal deportation standards. According to a February memo from Biden’s Department of Homeland Security, “If there is any question as to whether an individual falls into the category of posing a public safety threat, managers should err on the side of caution and postpone the individual’s removal until a full assessment … is conducted [emphasis added]. If there isn’t sufficient time to determine whether an individual was convicted of an aggravated felony or poses a public safety risk, the individual shall be removed from the manifest until such time as the review is complete.”

So, even though these individuals have already broken the law by illegally entering the U.S. (which alone is deserving of deportation), Biden’s DHS will refrain from deporting them if they’re not satisfied that the individuals have committed serious felony crimes. In other words, unless they can be proven to be really bad guys, then don’t deport them.

Due to Biden’s narrowing deportation guidelines, DHS has knowingly released thousands of criminal aliens back into the American populace.

Biden’s border policy “is actively helping organized crime,” insisted former Fox News host Bill O’Reilly. “When Joe Biden came in, he dismantled in 24 hours Donald Trump’s border policy that made it more difficult for migrants to come to the United States and more difficult for narcotics to be smuggled in here from the Mexican cartels. That’s a fact. No dispute.”

It’s not just the prospect of increased crime rates due to Biden’s disastrous border policy; it’s the impact that illegal aliens have on the struggling jobs market and wages. As the country seeks to recover from the economic damage caused by the pandemic, Biden is flooding the country with illegals, which only serves to diminish wages and work opportunities for working-class Americans. Yet all his press secretary does is blame the media for calling it a crisis.

Of ‘Birthing People,’ Mothers, and the Unborn

“Pro-choice” Democrat Rep. Cori Bush unwittingly gives a powerful pro-life testimony.

Douglas Andrews

This Sunday, Americans everywhere will honor the mothers among us. We’ll honor their singular, God-given ability to become pregnant and to give birth, and we’ll honor their innate gifts for loving, for protecting, for nurturing, and for telling us we grabbed the wrong chicken broth at the grocery store.

Nowhere, though, to the disappointment of woke leftists, will we be honoring “birthing people.” Nowhere will we be saying, “Happy Birthing People’s Day.” And this is as it should be, despite the best efforts of Democrat Congresswoman Cori Bush.

During her testimony yesterday before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, Bush did violence to the English language when she said, “Every day, black birthing people and our babies die because our doctors don’t believe our pain.”

First-term South Carolina Republican Representative Nancy Mace, herself a single mom, was among many who took issue with Bush’s weird locution. “‘Birthing people’ — you mean women or moms?” she tweeted. “The left is so woke, they’re stripping from women the one thing that only we can do. Leave it to libs to botch highlighting an important issue [people] in both parties can agree on by catering to the fringes.”

Bush also had a predictable defender: “When we talk about birthing people, we’re being inclusive,” tweeted NARAL. “It’s that simple. We use gender neutral language when talking about pregnancy, because it’s not just cis-gender women that can get pregnant and give birth. Reproductive freedom is for every body.”

NARAL’s anti-science contortion notwithstanding, we suspect Bush did indeed mean “black mothers,” and we’ll cede that the point she was making couldn’t have been more deeply felt.

But what ultimately came out of her testimony was probably not what she intended. Instead of an attack on white supremacy and institutional racism — elements of which were certainly in there — her three and a half minutes before the committee rendered a deeply moving and powerful affirmation not only of motherhood but of life. See for yourself, and try to look past the partisanship.

Bush spoke of pregnancy, warning signs, indifferent prenatal care, and of going into preterm labor. “At 23 weeks my son was born,” she said. “One pound, three ounces. His ears were still in his head, his eyes were still fused shut, his fingers were smaller than rice, and his skin was translucent. A Black baby, translucent skin — you could see his lungs. He could fit within the palm of my hand. We were told he had a zero percent chance of life. The Chief of Neonatal Surgery happened to be in the hospital that morning and saw my case on the surgical board and she decided to try to resuscitate him. It worked and for the first month of his life, Zion was on a ventilator fighting to live. For 4 months he was in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.”

Not long afterward, Bush became pregnant again, and she again went into preterm labor. This time, she says, “The doctor told me that the baby was going to abort. I said, ‘No, you have to do something.’ But he was adamant, and he said, ‘Just go home. Let it abort. You can get pregnant again because that’s what you people do.’”

It’s hard to believe that a doctor trained to deliver babies would say something so callous and racist, but that’s Bush’s story. In any case, she chose life, and her son is now 21, and her daughter, Angel, is now 20.

“Though it’s difficult to know the exact number,” writes David Harsanyi at National Review, “somewhere around 10,000 late-term abortions are performed on viable babies who could otherwise survive outside the womb every year. The number of near-viable babies — babies whom science will soon be able to save outside the womb — accounts for thousands more. This is properly described as infanticide. And no matter how many times the myth is repeated, the vast majority of late abortions are not performed to save the mother’s life.”

It’s worth considering that Planned Parenthood aborts 247 black children every day in America — and this despite its ardent support of the anti-family Black Lives Matter cause.

Still, when it mattered for Cori Bush, she chose life. She chose motherhood.

The Worrisome Drop in Fertility

It’s been a trend for years, but 2020 exacerbated a big problem.

Brian Mark Weber

With most of America shut indoors with nothing to do for the past year, one might think the birthrate would have skyrocketed. But it’s just the opposite. Whatever Americans might have done with their time since COVID-19 arrived from China, procreating wasn’t one of them.

On one hand, it’s understandable why some parents might want to put off having children. With all the social turmoil on our streets, coronavirus lockdowns, and uncertain economic conditions, it might be a good time to wait.

On the other hand, birthrates in the U.S. dropped last year to the lowest point in more than a century (and raw numbers were the lowest since 1979), signifying some important and troubling trends in our culture.

According to a Fox News report, “The U.S. once was among only a few developed countries with a fertility rate that ensured each generation had enough children to replace it. About a dozen years ago, the estimated rate was 2.1 kids per U.S. woman. But it’s been sliding, and last year dropped to about 1.6, the lowest rate on record.”

On the surface, some experts blame the coronavirus, but the downward trend was already occurring.

Janet Adamy of the Wall Street Journal writes, “Demographers say the data suggests that more fundamental social and economic shifts are driving down fertility. Births peaked in 2007 before plunging during the recession that began that year. Although fertility usually rebounds alongside an improving economy, U.S. births fell in all but one year as the economy grew from 2009 until early 2020.”

Adamy adds, “Millennials, born between 1981 and 1996, now account for the majority of women having children. In seeking to explain their lower fertility rates, researchers have pointed to the fact that they are marrying later in life, getting higher levels of education and are less financially secure than previous generations when they were the same age.”

Waiting to have kids doesn’t come without challenges, including some evidence indicating physical and mental health risks for mothers who wait until their 30s or 40s to become pregnant.

But there’s more to this trend than fears of bringing a baby into a pandemic or mothers putting off children to earn a college degree and establish a career.

Just last year, we identified a range of factors including women being pushed to have careers instead of children, men preferring a carefree lifestyle free of commitment, a culture obsessed with entertainment, the rejection of religion, and Hollywood’s penchant for mocking traditional families.

The media celebrate couples for having the “courage” to remain child-free, claiming they’re somehow shedding the shackles of a family-centered culture. Books with titles such as Childless by Choice and Regretting Motherhood have contributed to a mindset increasingly viewing the childless life in a positive light.

As a societal trend instead of the individual choice of a relative few, this will continue to have widespread, negative impacts on our society. For example, Social Security and Medicare will be harder to prop up with fewer workers paying into the system. Replacing an aging workforce will lead to more calls for increased immigration, leading to social and cultural instability. And America will be less competitive across a range of industries and fields when millions of unskilled workers are brought in to replace those heading into retirement.

But perhaps there are reasons to have children that cannot be quantified in a study. What could be more important than giving life to another human being born out of the love and commitment of two parents focusing on something other than themselves?

Sure, raising a child is hard work, but it imparts a level of compassion, forgiveness, selflessness, and joy that cannot be experienced in any other way. And on some level, a nation that values marriage and children might just be one that’s better equipped to deal with the challenges of the future.

Woke Supremacists Failed to Cancel Pence

Everything wrong with woke theology — in one letter.

Mark Alexander

In early January, amid the rude protests ahead of the incoming leftist Biden/Harris regime and the resulting Pelosi/Schumer political theatrics, a news item was largely lost.

As you may recall, Simon & Schuster canceled the publication of a book by Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO), ironically on The Tyranny of Big Tech. At the time, Hawley responded: “This could not be more Orwellian. … Let me be clear, this is not just a contract dispute. It’s a direct assault on the First Amendment. Only approved speech can now be published. This is the Left looking to cancel everyone they don’t approve of.”

The latest entry in the Leftmedia and BigTech suppression of free speech — the institutional redlining of foundational civil rights affirmed by our First Amendment — was an effort by Simon & Schuster employees to cancel the publication of a book by former Vice President Mike Pence.

Having previously set a precedent with the Hawley cancellation, a group of emotionally incontinent adolescent employees of the big publishing house thought it could cancel the planned publication of two books by Mike Pence. In a “Solidarity With the Workforce” letter to management, these employees outlined their objections to publishing anything from Pence.

That letter is a testament to the absurdity of the current manifestation of woke theology.

The employees declared: “By choosing to publish Mike Pence, Simon & Schuster is generating wealth for a central figure of a presidency that unequivocally advocated for racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, anti-Blackness, xenophobia, misogyny, ableism, islamophobia, antisemitism, and violence. This is not a difference of opinions; this is legitimizing bigotry.” They demanded that the publisher “cancel the two-book deal with Mike Pence and do not sign any more book deals with former members of the Trump administration” and “commit to ongoing reevaluations of all clients, authors, distribution deals, and all other financial commitments that promote white supremacist content and/or harm the aforementioned marginalized communities.”

The letter concludes, “We impart to you the sad and unfortunate truth that we are actively making history right now: people will look back on this one day, and see that through our complicity, we chose to be on what is clearly the wrong side of justice.”

Actually, what this letter imparts is the extent to which Trump Derangement Syndrome still manifests in leftist culture.

The Hawley cancellation notwithstanding, Simon & Schuster CEO Jonathan Karp responded appropriately (this time): “We come to work each day to publish, not cancel, which is the most extreme decision a publisher can make, and one that runs counter to the very core of our mission to publish a diversity of voices and perspectives. We will, therefore, proceed in our publishing agreement with Vice President Mike Pence.”

As for how this asinine letter, this juvenile example of Marxist cancel culture, will be viewed by people who “will look back on this one day,” it should be viewed then, as now, by those who actually support “Liberty and justice for all,” as yet another example of the current iterations of socialist BIG Lies. There is no “justice” in the absence of Liberty. Thus, Simon & Schuster’s response is on the right side of justice.

More Proof of Leftmedia Propaganda

Pew Research Center finds that media outlets are little other than fan boys of the Biden administration.

Thomas Gallatin

Given the way the mainstream media has covered Joe Biden since he’s been in office, one might have thought they were covering George Washington reincarnated. It’s more than just a feeling. No president over the last 30 years has received less negative coverage than has Biden. Notably, this data doesn’t come from a right-leaning organization but from the Pew Research Center.

Pew notes, “News coverage of President Joe Biden’s early days in office was modestly more negative than positive” by some nine percentage points. Adding perspective by contrasting that with Donald Trump’s coverage, Pew says, “While the negative Biden stories modestly outnumbered the positive ones, negative stories about Trump exceeded positive ones by four-to-one.”

The numbers may not be all that impressive, but that’s because of an underlying truth that viewers are picking up. The survey of more than 12,000 adults found, “The public’s sense of news coverage of the Biden administration is more positive than the study of the news coverage. 46% of U.S. adults say that the early coverage they’ve seen about the Biden administration offered mostly positive assessments, far more than the 14% who say they’ve seen mostly negative ones.”

We’re not sure how Pew is measuring its “modestly more negative” numbers, but, in our estimate, it’s painfully obvious that the Leftmedia is practically working for Joe Biden. That’s not perception; it’s reality. (For example, see the ridiculous fawning over the “professional, pleasant, [and] lovely” Jen Psaki.)

Perhaps this is because there’s also a huge political divide at play. Pew also found that conservatives were far more politically informed and aware of the news than were liberals. Furthermore, conservatives are following Biden and his policy decisions much more closely. “Americans who turn only to outlets with left-leaning audiences [are] least likely to be following news about the Biden administration very closely (16%) — and their counterparts on the right almost twice as likely to do so (30%).”

One fascinating tidbit is that survey respondents said the MSM is giving “too much attention” to racial issues and not enough coverage to the state of the economy and the ongoing border crisis. Maybe race-baiting is getting tiresome to most Americans.

Finally, Trump is still a boon for the MSM: “Trump himself was mentioned in about half the stories about the new Biden administration.” It’s not just the Leftmedia, either. There is “virtually no difference in the frequency of those mentions [of Trump in Biden stories] across outlets with left-leaning audiences (50% of stories), outlets with right-leaning audiences (47% of stories) and outlets with a mixed audience (47% of stories).”

In other words, Biden is boring — or maybe it’s just the over-the-top positive coverage of Biden that’s boring. If MSM outlets actually dug into the real and genuine scandals that have swirled around Biden (i.e., the utterly corrupt Hunter Biden), they would get more interested viewers. However, seeing as the Leftmedia is little more than the propagandist wing of the Democrat Party, such genuine investigative journalism won’t happen.

Nancy Pelosi’s Monumental Double Standard

At the height of cancel culture, the speaker refuses to talk about her late father’s kind words for Confederates.

Douglas Andrews

Ask House Speaker Nancy Pelosi about removing the historic Confederate statues from the halls of our nation’s Capitol building, and she’ll likely give you a spittle-flecked earful. But ask her about a certain Confederate-friendly former mayor of Baltimore, and she’ll suddenly have a plane to catch.

Perhaps it’s because that former mayor is her dad.

As The Washington Times reports, “Pelosi refuses to denounce her late father, former Baltimore Mayor Thomas D’Alesandro Jr., for supporting the erection of Confederate monuments in the city and perpetuating systemic racism by not stopping discriminatory practices, including refusing rental housing to black people in white neighborhoods. Mrs. Pelosi, who has made confronting the country’s past racism and combating systemic racism a cornerstone of the House Democrats’ agenda, refused repeated requests this week to address her father’s legacy.”

We’re not here to denounce the speaker for not denouncing her dad, though. We wouldn’t denounce our own dad under the same circumstances. What we will denounce Pelosi for, though, is her rank hypocrisy, which is there for everyone to see. It’s Pelosi, after all, who’s pushing the hard-Left’s racially divisive woke agenda through Congress — an agenda based on white guilt and black grievance. And it’s Pelosi and her fellow Democrats who encouraged the thuggery and mayhem of last year’s Black Lives Matter riots, and who said not a word about the concurrent statue-toppling orgy of their youthful Red Guards.

Check that. Pelosi actually did have something to say about all that. “People will do what they do,” she dismissively said when “protesters” in Baltimore, the city of her birth, yanked down a statue of the great Christopher Columbus, the first Italian American, and threw it into the city’s Inner Harbor.

Yet here’s what her dad said shortly after he took office, as he dedicated a Baltimore monument to Confederate icons Robert E. Lee and Thomas J. “Stonewall” Jackson: “Today, with our nation beset by subversive groups and propaganda which seeks to destroy our national unity, we can look for inspiration to the lives of Lee and Jackson to remind us to be resolute and determined in preserving our sacred institutions. We must remain steadfast in our determination to preserve freedom, not only for ourselves, but for the other liberty-loving nations who are striving to preserve their national unity as free nations.”

We can look for inspiration to the lives of Lee and Jackson. Far less inflammatory words than those will get a guy canceled by today’s Left.

Of course, we conservatives judge historical figures against the moral standards of their day, while unhinged “progressives” invariably judge those same figures against the outlandishly woke standards of 2021. Put another way, they vilify Thomas Jefferson for not having been John Brown or Bill de Blasio. And in this case, long-ago Baltimore Mayor Tom D’Alesandro is little more than a typical politician having done the typical things of the day.

So no act of contrition or even acknowledgment will be coming from Pelosi, the hypocritical, holier-than-thou pol who exposed herself once and for all last year when she refused to apologize for her San Fran salon scandal. Indeed, at the time she actually had the chutzpah to demand an apology from the salon owner. “I think that this salon owes me an apology for setting me up. … As it turns out, it was a setup. So I take responsibility for falling for a setup.”

As for this D’Alesandro dust-up, it’s only a story because it involves a do-as-I-say, not-as-I-do politician who refuses to condemn behavior that she’d otherwise condemn. As Power Line’s Paul Mirengoff writes, “Pelosi wants whites as a group not just to take responsibility for the complicity of some whites in racism, but to pay reparations to blacks. Yet, she won’t own up to her father’s complicity in racism — complicity that, for example, prevented blacks from obtaining housing in white neighborhoods. Call it white Speaker’s privilege.”

In any case, it’s good to see Nancy get a taste of her own medicine.

Insight: “I think that every true reformer, every real friend of liberty, will agree with me in saying that if we must erect safeguards, they should be rather for the security of the individual than of the mass, and that our chiefest care must be to train the majority to respect the rights of the minority, to prevent the claims of the few from being trampled under foot by the caprice or passion of the many.” —Sir Richard John Cartwright (1835-1912)

Political futures: “If the Right gives up the gender fight, then that’s it. It’s over. Once we’ve surrendered reality itself, what else is there to fight for? Tax cuts? I will die on this hill. If this hill is lost, there are none worth keeping after it and nobody left to fight for them anyway.” —Matt Walsh

Upright: “The late historian Will Durant had the definitive statement about what happens to nations that ignore traditions and policies which have worked in the past: ‘A great civilization is not conquered from without until it has destroyed itself within.’ An even higher authority preached: ‘For a time is coming when people will no longer listen to sound and wholesome teaching. They will follow their own desires and will look for teachers who will tell them whatever their itching ears want to hear.’ (2 Timothy 4:3 NLT).” —Cal Thomas

For the record: “Racism, America’s original sin, continues to plague America from making true progress as a united nation, free of racial division and bias. Just as one group appears to be making significant progress, another finds itself moving backward. The cause of this, I believe, is that many have a distorted version of racism. That is, rather than viewing racism as judging others by the color of their skin, racism has been modified to be about power dynamics; the powerful class is the only class that can be racist and less powerful classes cannot. … Race does not exist in any discernible way outside of the power we give it. At the most basic biological level, race has no significance in the actions of men, and yet we continue to use race to divide men into groups, a misguided practice that has had severe consequences since our great country’s inception.” —Armstrong Williams

Re: The Left: “Redefining language is nothing new for the left. When they can’t win public opinion with the truth, they change the meanings of words to trick the public into their way of thinking. Examples abound. Bill Clinton famously called taxes ‘contributions’ and talked about how the government needed more of them from you. But if you actually treated them like contributions and decided that they were voluntary, armed IRS agents would knock on your door and put a lien on your home. And when it comes to abortion, there’s no such thing as a baby growing inside her mother’s womb anymore; it’s now called a ‘product of conception.’ That’s the left’s way of pretending that abortion isn’t the destruction of human life. … And what about when a politician tells you that they’re cutting spending? In typical Washington-speak, spending cuts aren’t actually cuts in spending but cuts to increases in spending. So they’re still spending more money than they did before — just not as much as they wanted. … The American Jobs Plan is being used as a Trojan horse to hide an agenda that would cost American families, chase jobs out of the country, add trillions to the debt, and concentrate more power with the federal government.” —Kay C. James

Grand delusions: “I’m not a deficit spender.” —Joe Biden

Lack of self-awareness: “We are witnessing a surge in anti-Asian hate crimes in our country. I condemn anti-Asian hate and stand with our AAPI community members.” —Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler (“Between 2019–21, there have been two mob beatings of Asian Americans in your city. Both were committed by antifa. You remained silent both times.” —Andy Ngô)

And last… “Imagine what would have happened in this country without brave Republican governors. We’d probably still all be locked down. Thank god for federalism. It allows us to have 50 state laboratories & to see big state govs like DeSantis in Florida & Abbott in Texas were correct.” —Clay Travis

White House Press Secretary Admits Team Tells Biden Not To Answer Non-Preapproved Questions From Reporters | ZeroHedge News

Authored by Isabel van Brugen via The Epoch Times,

White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said on Thursday that her team at times tells President Joe Biden not to answer questions from reporters.

Psaki made the remarks during an appearance on CNN’s podcast “The Axe Files with David Axelrod.”

CNN Senior Political Commentator Axelrod brought up an incident from earlier this year when the president was put on the spot by CNN reporter Kaitlan Collins about whether a provision to raise the minimum wage to $15 would be part of the pandemic relief bill that was signed into law in March.

The president at the time was unaccompanied by his communications team and answered the question.

Axelrod asked the press secretary how she manages scenarios where Biden takes impromptu questions from reporters.

“He was right, but it must have given you a lot of heartburn and [made you] ask yourself, ‘Why are we allowing him to roll around in the hallways doing impromptu interviews?’” Axelrod asked.

“He takes questions nearly every day he’s out [with] the press,” Psaki said.

“That is not something we recommend. In fact, a lot of times we say ‘don’t take questions,’” Psaki told Axelrod, noting that at the time, she had finished work for the day and the president was on his way back to his residence.

She continued, “But he’s going to do what he wants to do because he’s the president of the United States.”

The president has only held one formal press conference, which took place 65 days into his presidency on March 25, after mounting pressure from critics and journalists. Biden waited longer than any other president in four decades to hold the formal briefing.

By contrast, his 15 predecessors held solo press briefings within the first 33 days of their respective presidencies. Former President Donald Trump took questions after 27 days in office, while former President Barack Obama held a formal press conference 20 days into his first term.

The president gave his first prime-time address on March 11 but took no questions afterwards.

Photographs taken during his first solo press conference showed that he consulted notes that assisted him with key policy points and data, and appeared to show numbered images of reporters attending the event.

The president took questions only from a list of reporters whose outlets and names were listed and numbered on a cue card. Biden took 31 questions from reporters, notably ignoring those from Fox News and The New York Times.

The White House didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.

The socialist Trojan Horse within the US Christian church | The Christian Post

Courtesy of Bill Connor
In recent years, the number of Christians identifying as “Christian Socialists” or “Christian Communists” has skyrocketed in a way not seen in over 40 years. Sarah Ngu, in her 2020 article “Why These Young American Christians Embrace Socialism” wrote the following: “Over the past three years, some American Christians have rediscovered this tradition and found themselves gravitating to socialism—in all its varieties, from democratic socialism to full-fledged communism.” Gary Dorrien, a professor of social ethics at Union Theological Seminary, writes “The revival (of Christian socialism) is a Christian flank of the current upsurge for democratic socialist”. For the most part, the orthodox Christian community has remained silent about this growing trend, seemingly oblivious to the dangers. It’s time we acknowledged how the Trojan Horse of Socialism entered the Church, and fight back.
First, doctrine and history make clear that Biblical Christianity and Socialism and/or Communism are in opposition on fundamental levels. The intellectual forefather of Socialism, Karl Marx, taught this about Christianity: “The social principle of Christianity preaches cowardice, self-contempt, abasement, submission, humility….” Marx further asserted “The more of himself that man gives to God, the less he has left of himself”. Like all future communist and socialist leaders who follow Marx, he believed: “Religion is the sigh of the oppressed creature, the heart of the heartless world, and the soul of a heartless world, and the soul of soulless conditions. It is the opiate of the people.” (Communist Manifesto, the Bible of Communism).

The history of the socialist war against Christianity is instructive. “The League of the Militant Godless” was developed by early Soviet leaders like Leon Trotsky and Lenin. Its slogan tells volumes: “The struggle against religion is the struggle for socialism”. In just over 15 years, the League boasted 3.5 million members and included a hundred ethnicities. This was while Soviets in the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) were executing tens of thousands of Priests, millions of Christians, demolishing churches and ruthlessly suppressing Christianity. The official literature of the Comintern (International Communist Front), stated “One of the most important tasks of the cultural revolution affecting the wide masses is the task of systematically and unswervingly combating religion – the opiate of the people.”

Ben Gitlow was a top figure in the early Communist Party (USA), and twice ran as Vice President of the US on the Communist Party ticket in 1924 and 1928. He left the Communist Party in 1929, and began hearings before Congress about Communist infiltration in America starting in 1939. According to Gitlow in answering Congress about the Communist “united front” technique of infiltrating America: “the tactic of the united front adopted by the Communists in 1922 after they realized that their militant policy for instigating a revolution in Germany and then throughout Europe and the world had failed…….. The united front tactic enabled the Communists to greatly increase the effectiveness of their infiltration activities.” The aims were to first build pro-Soviet sentiment in America. Second, to set conditions for Communists to capture trade unions. Third to “Spread Communist propaganda, incite discontent amount the people, undermine the loyalty of the American people and to divide them on religion, national, racial, and economic lines.”

Importantly, Gitlow said this about infiltration of the Christian Church in America: “the united front policy enabled the Communists to widely expand their infiltration activities on the religious field because instead of using the Communist Party directly (on Christian organizations)”, they used united-front organizations not directly connected to the Communist Party. Communist Party USA leader Manning Johnson told Congress that “deceit” about the anti-Christian nature was “a major policy of the Communist Propaganda”. According to Johnson: “(Communists) made fine gestures and honeyed words to the church people which could be will likened unto the sea nymphs luring millions to moral decay, spiritual death, and spiritual slavery. An illustration of this treachery, I might point out, is smiling, sneaky Earl Browder, for example, who was vice chairman of the American League Against War and Fascism, greeting and praising ministers and other church workers participating with him in the united front anti-war activities, while secretly harboring in his heart only contempt for them and for the religion that they represented.”

The Soviet Union collapsed in 1991 and no longer commands the worldwide Comintern. However, Communism as a worldwide movement continues. The ideology spawned during those decades made substantial inroads into the Church and academia (an estimated 18% of American Professors today identify as Marxist). United Methodist Reverend Lindsey Joyce provides a window into the modern infiltration: “Socialism gave me a politics that finally provided clarity….. It wasn’t about my individualistic faith or spiritual gifts.” Christianity centers around individual spiritual redemption, while socialism is about the collective and material. Communist “Christian” Dean Dettloff is indicative of the fraud being promulgated to soften and revive Communism within the Church. Dettloff claims “the worst abuses in history have actually been committed by people who are devoted to Jesus Christ”. This glosses over the upwards of 100 million people who died under 20th century communism, a number that dwarfs almost 2000 years of alleged Christian “abuses”.

The Church can no longer remain silent. The Trojan Horse of Socialism and Communism, wheeled in to the US in the 1920s, is a growing “enemy within”. Neither Communism, nor Socialism can be reconciled with Christianity, and it’s time to voice that truth boldly and loudly. We fight back with spiritual weapons and in Christian love, but against this threat we must fight back.

When Can We Expect That Apology From ‘Biden Republicans’? — Christian Research Network

(Issues & Insights)  In the run-up to the 2020 elections, we were bombarded with stories about Republicans who were not only opposed to Donald Trump’s reelection but were actively campaigning on behalf of Joe Biden.

These Republicans didn’t just express disdain for Trump, they sang Biden’s praises, calling him a uniter, a reasonable centrist, an honest man, someone who’d reach across the aisle “to get things done.” Now, after Biden’s first 100 days in office, we can see how well those promises have held up.

Our judgment in three words: Not. At. All.

Biden is governing as the most leftist president in history. He has shunned Republicans at every turn. He’s attacked the U.S. as racist. He’s been caught in flagrant lies. And so on.

So let’s see what exactly those “Republicans for Biden” were promising that a vote or Biden would produce. And let’s compare those with what the news tells us is happening now.
