Sheol, Hades, and Gehenna: are there differences? — The Cripplegate

Sheol, Hades, and Gehenna are all terms the Bible uses for the location that people go when they die.  I’m often asked if those are the same place, and if so, why does the Bible uses different words for them? The answer is actually pretty straight forward, so let’s look at those three terms one at a time:

Sheol—The Old Testament speaks of Sheol as the “realm of the dead,” and this includes both the saved and the lost. For example, consider the patriarch Jacob, who thought of himself as going to Sheol when he died (Gen 37:35, 42:13, 44:29).

Sheol is not only where patriarchs go, but it is clearly spoken of as the realm to which those who die absent saving faith also descend. For example, Moses declared that when people die who “despised Yahweh” then they descend into Sheol (Numbers 16:20). Deuteronomy 32:22 speaks of Sheol as the realm of the fire of God’s judgement.

It is best to understand Sheol as the term for “realm of the dead,” where both righteous and unrighteous went when they died. The best proof for this inclusive concept of Sheol is that David thought of himself going to Sheol (2 Sam 22:6), and yet he also taught that the wicked go there as well (Psalm 31:17). Thus Sheol refers to the realm where the souls of all dead went at death.

You’ll notice I said “went.” I used the past tense because, for the righteous, Sheol was an Old Testament concept. Because Jesus is truly human, he experienced death as all humans do. He too descended to Sheol, and proclaimed victory over the grave by liberating the souls of the righteous and bringing them to heaven. Thus when church-age believers die, they do not go to Sheol, but rather to heaven to be with the Lord forever (1 Thess 4:17).

Hades is a New Testament (Greek) term that is used to refer to Sheol. Hades/Sheol refer to the same place, but there is a noticeable difference in the way the OT and the NT speak of Sheol/Hades. The OT speaks of Sheol inclusively, and even the righteous dead descend there. However, because of Jesus’ victory over death and the liberty he brings to the righteous in Sheol, Jesus does not teach that believers go to Hades, but rather that believers will be with him in heaven (John 14:2-3).

For that reason, the NT emphasis on Hades is a place of suffering and judgment (Matt 11:23, Luke 10:15, Luke 16:23). Even so, it is still the same location as Sheol and does refer to the place where the righteous OT saints went at their deaths. This is made clear when Peter says that Jesus descended to Hades when he died, while the OT speaks of him descending to Sheol (compare Acts 2:27 and 31 with Psalm 16:10).

Ultimately, Jesus has authority over Sheol/Hades. He “has the keys to death and Hades” (Revelation 1:18), which is another way of saying he can bind or loose people from there as he pleases. Of course he frees all the saints there at his resurrection, and then uses his keys again to empty Sheol by casting the damned souls there into the lake of fire (Revelation 20:13-14).

Gehenna is the NT name for a valley outside of Jerusalem. In the OT that valley was called the Valley of Hinnom, and it is where the Israelites sacrificed their children to Molech (2 Chron 28:3, Jer 19:2-6). By the time of Christ, that name was pronounced Gehenna, and it is said to be the place where trash and dead animals were burned. It was perpetually on fire, and thus Jesus uses it as an image of hell (Matthew 5:22, Mark 9:43-47, Luke 12:5). Many English translations recognize the place as obviously referring to hell and thus if you look in your ESV you will see it even translated “hell.” In fact, James 3:6 uses “Gehenna” as an obvious idiom for hell.

To summarize: in the OT both the righteous and unrighteous went to Sheol, which contained realms of suffering for the unrighteous, and rest/worship for the righteous. The NT refers to this as Hades. However, when Jesus rose from the grave, he emptied Sheol/Hades of the righteous, and now when Christians die they do not go DOWN to Sheol/Hades, but UP to heaven. Meanwhile the unrighteous are left in Hades until the final judgment, when they are then resurrected, given new bodies, and cast into the fires of hell/Gehenna forever (Revelation 20:14-15, 21:8).

People Become More Humble as They Prepare for Heaven
Isaiah 57:15; Ephesians 3:8; 1 Timothy 1:15; 1 Peter 5:6

When the corn is nearly ripe, it bows the head, and stoops lower than when it was green. When the people of God are nearly ripe for heaven, they grow more humble and self-denying than in the days of their first profession. The longer a saint grows in the world, the better he is still acquainted with his own heart, and his obligations to God; both which are very humbling things.

Dishonest Reasons for Going to War
2 Chronicles 35:21–24; Psalm 120:7; James 4:1

I am well aware of the excuse which men, ever ingenious in devising mischief to themselves as well as others, offer in extenuation of their conduct in going to war. They allege that they are compelled to it; that they are dragged against their will to war. I answer them, deal fairly. Pull off the mask; throw away all false colors; consult your own heart, and you will find that anger, ambition, and folly are the compulsory force that has dragged you to war, and not any necessity; unless indeed you call the insatiable cravings of a covetous mind, necessity.

The Problem of Forgiveness — Ligonier Ministries Blog

Forgiveness is a problem for many people due to their misunderstanding of what forgiveness involves and confusion about what forgiveness really is. Part of the issue is that sometimes we are unable to distinguish between forgiveness and feeling forgiven. Sometimes our feelings can get out of sync with the reality of forgiveness.

Once a man came to talk to me about feeling greatly distressed because of his guilt. He said that he had committed a particular sin and had prayed and prayed about it but hadn’t received any relief. He wanted to know what he had to do to experience God’s forgiveness. But since he had confessed his sin and begged God to forgive him, I told him that he needed to ask God to forgive him for a different sin—the sin of arrogance. God says, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9). When we don’t believe that God has in fact forgiven us when we have confessed our sin, we are calling into question His faithfulness. We are saying that God’s promise cannot be trusted. That is supreme arrogance, so we need to ask God’s forgiveness for our refusing to believe His promise.

There is more to this problem of forgiveness. When we sin, one of the most difficult things for us is accepting free, gracious, merciful forgiveness. We are creatures of pride. We think that God’s forgiveness is fine for other people, but when we do something wrong, we want to make up for it. However, this is absolutely impossible for anyone to do. God requires perfect holiness. Once perfection is lost, we cannot regain it. We are debtors with a debt we cannot pay. This is difficult for us to accept because we want to be able to pay our own way. It’s because of our pride and arrogance, both fruits of our sinfulness, that we refuse to accept the forgiveness of God.

Back to the distinction between forgiveness and feeling forgiven: forgiveness is objective but the feeling of forgiveness is subjective. I can feel forgiven but not be forgiven because I haven’t repented. I can excuse myself when God has not excused me, and that false feeling of forgiveness can lead me astray. But I can also not feel forgiven even when I actually have been forgiven. If God declares that a person is forgiven, that person is in fact forgiven. Our lack of feeling forgiven does not negate the reality of what God has done.

What is the authority in our lives? Our feelings, which are subjective, or the Word of God, which is objective truth? The Christian must live practically each day by the Word of God rather than by his feelings. The issue of forgiveness is not whether we feel forgiven, but whether we have repented. If we confess our sin and ask God for forgiveness through Christ, we can be assured that He forgives us.

Sometimes we don’t forgive ourselves even though God has forgiven us. But who are we to refuse to forgive one whom God has forgiven? What makes us so wicked that God’s forgiveness is not enough to cover our sin? In effect, we’re saying that we’re so evil that even the grace of God can’t help us. No, we’re so proud that we refuse God’s grace.

Now let’s look at what forgiveness is. The Bible teaches that when God forgives us, He forgets our sins. This doesn’t mean He erases them from His memory. It means that He doesn’t hold them against us anymore.

How many times has someone told you that he has forgiven a sin you committed against him, and then, the next time you have a fight, he brings up what you did the last time? That person has, in a sense, rescinded his forgiveness. God doesn’t do that. If I am pardoned by God, it is settled and is never to be brought up again. God puts those sins aside and will never speak of them. However, we often reopen old wounds. We allow them to disturb the relationship. If I have forgiven someone, I should never again mention that sin. Forgiveness means not bringing it up.

There is another issue to look at, and that is our obligation to forgive others who sin against us. If such people confess their sin and repent, it is our moral obligation to forgive. However, if they don’t repent, we are not required to forgive. We may forgive, as Jesus did for those who killed Him (Luke 23:34). But in doing that, Jesus didn’t command that we must always forgive those who don’t repent. You can go to those who have wronged you and tell them they have offended you (see Matt. 18:15). If they repent, you have won them. But you are not called to forgive if they don’t repent. You are not allowed to be bitter or vindictive. You have to be loving, caring, concerned, and compassionate, but you don’t have to forgive. You can still talk about it and seek public vindication.

Here is one last problem related to forgiveness that we deal with often as elders in Christ’s church. A husband or wife commits adultery, repents deeply, and then asks his or her spouse for forgiveness. In such a situation, the offended spouse must forgive the guilty partner. However, that spouse is not obligated to stay married to that partner. The Bible makes a provision for the dissolution of a marriage in the event of adultery. The person is required to treat the repentant person as a brother or sister in Christ but not as a spouse.

Another example is a man stealing from us fifty times in our office and repenting each time. We must forgive him, but we can ask for restitution. We don’t have to keep him in our employ, but we must still treat him as a brother in Christ. This situation is an important practical application of the concept of forgiveness. We can have forgiveness and restored relationships, but that does not necessarily mean there are no lasting consequences for our sin.

Who Are the Nephilim and What Is Their Origin? — The Logos Blog

Who are the Nephilim?

In the sixth chapter of Genesis, we’re confronted with a curious reference to the Nephilim. Who are they? Were they a race who came to be through the mingling of divine beings and the daughters of men? Were the Nephilim engineered by God’s enemies to thwart his plans for mankind?

Even more puzzling is how the Nephilim could show up in Numbers 13—long after the flood. Wouldn’t they have died out in the flood with the rest of humanity? How could they have shown up in Canaan? Is it possible that Noah himself was a Nephilim?!

In his book, The Unseen Realm: Recovering the Supernatural Worldview of the Bible, Dr. Michael S. Heiser (Ph.D. in Hebrew Bible and Semitic Languages at the University of Wisconsin-Madison) unpacks this controversial topic by looking at the passages where the Nephilim show up, exploring a few explanations for the Nephilim’s existence before—and after—the flood.

The following post is adapted from The Unseen Realm.

At war with the serpent’s offspring

In the third chapter of Genesis, God told Eve that her offspring would be locked in conflict with the serpent’s offspring (Gen 3:15). The serpent was actually a divine being, not a mere member of the animal kingdom. The divine being in the garden who rebelled against Yahweh’s desire to have humans rule an Edenic world is never cast in human form. Unlike the sons of God in Genesis 6:1–4 who are cast as assuming human flesh and capable of cohabitation, the divine rebel of Eden does not appear to Eve that way.

Consequently, the idea of a “seed” or offspring extending from the nachash (serpent) would not have been literal for the biblical writer. Instead, the notion is metaphorical or spiritual. And this is precisely what we see when the phrase occurs elsewhere in the Bible. The metaphor is perhaps most clear in the New Testament, when Jesus himself referred to the Pharisees as serpents (Matt. 23:33) who were “of [their] father the devil” (John 8:44; cf. Rev. 12:6).

Despite the metaphorical nature of the language in the Eden story, the idea of divine beings producing human spawn who would oppose Yahweh’s desires does appear in Genesis 6:1–4.

“When man began to multiply on the face of the land and daughters were born to them, the sons of God saw that the daughters of man were attractive. And they took as their wives any they chose. Then the Lord said, “My Spirit shall not abide in man forever, for he is flesh: his days shall be 120 years.” The Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of man and they bore children to them. These were the mighty men who were of old, the men of renown.” (Genesis 6:1–4, ESV)

The origin of the Nephilim

How are we to understand from Genesis 6:4 that the Nephilim were upon the earth at the time of the flood “and also afterward”? How do we process their original presence?

Any viewpoint that strips the account of its supernatural flavor must be discarded. The events described in Genesis 6:1–4 were part of Israel’s supernatural worldview. We cannot pretend they saw things as most modern readers would. Since the Nephilim were part of Israel’s supernatural worldview and their descendants turn out to be Israel’s primary obstacle for conquering the promised land, the conquest itself must also be understood in supernatural terms.

There are two possible approaches to the origin of the Nephilim in Genesis 6:1–4 that are consistent with the supernatural understanding of the sons of God in the Israelite worldview.

Are the Nephilim descendants of divine beings?

The first and most transparent explanation is that divine beings came to earth, assumed human flesh, cohabited with human women, and spawned unusual offspring known as Nephilim. Naturally, this view requires seeing the giant clans encountered in the conquest as physical descendants of the Nephilim (Num. 13:32–33).

The primary objection to this approach is the sexual component. The modern enlightened mind simply can’t tolerate it. Appeal is usually made to Matthew 22:23–33 in this regard, under the assumption that verse 30 teaches that angels cannot engage in sexual intercourse:

On that day Sadducees—who say there is no resurrection—came up to him and asked him, saying, “Teacher, Moses said if someone dies without having children, his brother is to marry his wife and father descendants for his brother. Now there were seven brothers with us. And the first died after getting married, and because he did not have descendants, he left his wife to his brother. So also the second and the third, up to the seventh. And last of all the woman died. In the resurrection, therefore, whose wife of the seven will she be? For they all had her as wife.”

But Jesus answered and said to them, “You are mistaken, because you do not know the scriptures or the power of God! For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels of God in heaven. Now concerning the resurrection of the dead, have you not read what was spoken to you by God, who said, ‘I am the God of Abraham and the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob’? He is not the God of the dead, but of the living!” And when the crowds heard this, they were amazed at his teaching. (Matt. 22:23–33)

Angels and sexual intercourse

The text does not say angels cannot have sexual intercourse; it says they don’t. The reason ought to be obvious. The context for the statement is the resurrection, which refers either broadly to the afterlife or, more precisely, to the final, renewed global Eden.

The point is clear in either option. In the spiritual world, the realm of divine beings, there is no need for procreation. Procreation is part of the embodied world and is necessary to maintain the physical population. In like manner, life in the perfected Edenic world also does not require maintaining the human species by having children—everyone has an immortal resurrection body. Consequently, there is no need for sex in the resurrection, just as there is no need for it in the nonhuman spiritual realm.

But Genesis 6 doesn’t have the spiritual realm or the final Edenic world as its context. The analogy breaks down completely. The passage in Matthew is therefore useless as a commentary on Genesis 6:1–4.

The modern struggle with the supernatural

Despite the flawed use of this gospel passage, Christians still balk at this interpretive option for Genesis 6:1–4. The ancient reader would have had no problem with it. But for moderns, it seems impossible that a divine being could assume human flesh and do what this passage describes.

The objection is odd, since this interpretation is less dramatic than the incarnation of Yahweh as Jesus Christ. How is the virgin birth of God as a man more acceptable? What isn’t mind-blowing about Jesus having both a divine and human nature fused together? For that matter, what doesn’t offend the modern scientific mind about God going through a woman’s birth canal and enduring life as a human, having to learn how to talk, walk, eat with a spoon, be potty trained, and go through puberty?

All these things are far more shocking than Genesis 6:1–4, and yet this is what Scripture explicitly affirms when it informs us that the second person of the Godhead became a man. God became a man from conception onward.

The truth is that Christians affirm the incarnation because they have to—it defines Christianity. Genesis 6:1–4 is set aside as peripheral. But belief in a personal God as the Bible describes means embracing the supernatural. For the Christian, the high point of the supernatural story of Scripture—its most dramatic and unthinkable expression—is the incarnation of God in Christ.

The appearance of divine beings in human form

The notion that the sons of God came to earth in fleshly form ought to be more palatable than the incarnation, since it is less supernaturally spectacular. There is no suggestion that any corporeal appearance of a divine being was accomplished through incarnation—becoming an actual human. All such instances are lesser than the incarnation. This particular supernatural approach to Genesis 6:1–4 derives from other passages that plainly have divine beings (angels) in embodied human form.

For example, Genesis 18–19 is quite clear that Yahweh himself and two other divine beings met with Abraham in physical flesh. They ate a meal together:

“And the Lord appeared to him by the oaks of Mamre, as he sat at the door of his tent in the heat of the day. He lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, three men were standing in front of him. When he saw them, he ran from the tent door to meet them and bowed himself to the earth and said, ‘O Lord, if I have found favor in your sight, do not pass by your servant. Let a little water be brought, and wash your feet, and rest yourselves under the tree, while I bring a morsel of bread, that you may refresh yourselves, and after that you may pass on—since you have come to your servant.’

So they said, ‘Do as you have said.’ And Abraham went quickly into the tent to Sarah and said, ‘Quick! Three seahs of fine flour! Knead it, and make cakes.’ And Abraham ran to the herd and took a calf, tender and good, and gave it to a young man, who prepared it quickly. Then he took curds and milk and the calf that he had prepared, and set it before them. And he stood by them under the tree while they ate.” (Gen 18:1–8)

Genesis 19:10 informs us that the two angels had to physically grab Lot and pull him back into his house to avoid harm in Sodom, something that would be hard to do if the two beings were not truly physical.

Another example we looked at earlier is Genesis 32:22–31, where we read that Jacob wrestled with a “man” (32:24), whom the text also describes as elohim twice (32:30–31). Hosea 12:3–4 refers to this incident and describes the being who wrestled with Jacob as elohim and mal’ak (“angel”). This was a physical struggle, and one that left Jacob injured (32:31–32).

Embodied angels in the New Testament

While visual appearances in human form are more common, the New Testament also describes episodes where angels are best understood as corporeal. In Matthew 4:11, angels came to Jesus after he was tempted by the devil and “ministered” to him (cf. Mark 1:13). Surely this means more than floating around before Jesus’ face. Angels appear and speak (Matt. 28:5; Luke 1:11–21, 30–38), instances that presume actual sound waves being created. If a merely auditory experience was meant, one would expect the communication to be described as a dream-vision (Acts 10:3). Angels open doors (Acts 5:19) and hit disciples to wake them up (Acts 12:7). This particular episode is especially interesting, because the text has Peter mistakenly thinking the angel was only a vision.

Were the Nephilim produced?

There is a second supernaturalist approach to Genesis 6:1–4 that takes the sexual language as euphemistic, not literal. In this perspective, the language of cohabitation is used to convey the idea that divine beings who are rivals to Yahweh are responsible for producing the Nephilim, and therefore are responsible for the later giant clans.

This approach uses Yahweh’s relationship to Abraham and Sarah as an analogy. While there is no suggestion of a sexual relationship between an embodied Yahweh and Sarah to produce Isaac and, therefore, the Israelites, it is nonetheless true that the Israelites came about through supernatural intervention. In that sense, Yahweh “fathered” Israel. The means God used to enable Abraham and Sarah to have a child are never described in the Bible, but Scripture is clear that divine intervention of some sort was necessary. The Bible’s silence on the nature of the supernatural intervention opens the door to the idea that other rival gods produced offspring to oppose Yahweh’s children.

Either the giant clans are the result of literal cohabitation, or the sexual language is merely a vehicle to communicate the idea that, as Yahweh was responsible for the Israelites’ existence, so the giant clans existed because of some sort of supernatural intervention of rival gods.

Both approaches therefore presume that the Nephilim and the subsequent giant clans had a supernatural origin, but they disagree on the means.

The Nephilim show up in Canaan

Israel was reborn as a nation in the exodus from Egypt. After receiving the law, building the tabernacle, and establishing the priesthood, they departed for the promised land. They soon arrived at the border of Canaan, where Moses sent twelve spies to reconnoiter the territory (Num. 13).

The spies returned with confirmation of the abundance and desirability of the land. Nevertheless, most of them were in despair. The land was occupied by people in walled cities—some of whom were giants descended from the Nephilim:

So they brought to the people of Israel a bad report of the land that they had spied out, saying, “The land, through which we have gone to spy it out, is a land that devours its inhabitants, and all the people that we saw in it are of great height. And there we saw the Nephilim (the sons of Anak, who come from the Nephilim), and we seemed to ourselves like grasshoppers, and so we seemed to them.” (Num. 13:32–33 ESV)

Understanding the trauma of Israel in Numbers 13 is essential to understanding the subsequent conquest accounts. Any Israelite or Jew living after the time of the completion of the Hebrew Bible would have processed the wars for the promised land in terms of this passage, since it connected Israel’s survival as the people of Yahweh with the defeat of the Nephilim descendants.

How did the Nephilim survive the flood?

Genesis 6:4 pointedly informs readers that the Nephilim were on earth before the flood “and also afterward.” The phrase looks forward to Numbers 13:33, which says with equal clarity that the oversized descendants of Anak “came from the Nephilim.” The sons of Anak, the Anakim, were one of the giant clans described in the conquest narratives (e.g., Deut. 2:10–11, 21; Josh. 11:21–22; 14:12, 15). The text clearly links them to the Nephilim, but how is this possible given the account of the flood?

The problem is one that has puzzled interpreters since antiquity. Some Jewish writers presumed the answer was that Noah himself had been fathered by one of the sons of God and was a Nephilim giant. Genesis 6:9 clearly wants to distance Noah from the unrighteousness that precipitated the flood—so this explanation doesn’t work.

There are two alternatives for explaining the presence of giants after the flood who descended from the giant Nephilim:

  • The flood of Genesis 6–8 was a regional, not global, catastrophe.
  • The same kind of behavior described in Genesis 6:1–4 happened again (or continued to happen) after the flood, producing other Nephilim, from whom the giant clans descended.

Was the flood a local event?

The first option, a localized flood, naturally depends on the coherence of the arguments in defense of a local flood, especially those arguments dealing with the wording in the biblical text that seems to suggest the flood was worldwide.

Many biblical scholars, scientists, and other researchers have marshaled the evidence in favor of this reading. For our purposes, this option would allow human survival somewhere in the regions known to the biblical authors (Gen. 10), specifically the ancient Near East, the Mediterranean Sea, and the Aegean Sea.

Did the Nephilim’s origin reoccur?

The second option is a possibility deriving from Hebrew grammar. Genesis 6:4 tells us there were Nephilim on earth before the flood “and also afterward, when the sons of God went into the daughters of humankind.” The “when” in the verse could be translated “whenever,” thereby suggesting a repetition of these pre-flood events after the flood. In other words, since Genesis 6:4 points forward to the later giant clans, the phrasing could suggest that other sons of God fathered more Nephilim after the flood. As a result, there would be no survival of original Nephilim, and so the post-flood dilemma would be resolved. A later appearance of other Nephilim occurred by the same means as before the flood.

All of this sets the stage for Numbers 13. Fear of the giant clans results in a spiritual failure that means wandering in the desert outside the land of promise for forty years. The generation who came out of Egypt is sentenced to die off outside of holy ground. The new generation under Joshua will wind up facing the same threat.

The Power of Choice — Daily Devotionals by Thoughts about God

Let not your hearts be troubled. Trust in God.”  John 14:1

It’s just the way I am. I can’t help it. I’m a worrier by nature. I’m too old to change.

Do any of those phrases sound familiar to you? Do you find yourself excusing your tendency to worry or your lack of discipline? Unfortunately we have too often allowed ourselves the Privilege of Excuse to mask areas in our lives which need change or improvement. We do not hesitate to challenge our children when they use excuses to cover their poor performance in school or their disobedience, but we frequently are far more lenient with ourselves when it comes to matters between us and God.

Jesus speaks to his friends in the hour of their greatest need, when they are about to witness their beloved Savior being beaten and killed. How preposterous of him to say they have the ability to not be troubled. Don’t they have every “right” to be agitated (the primary meaning of the word troubled)? Their world is about to crumble in front of their eyes. Their future is bleak. The one they have trusted to give them hope and a future is about to be murdered.

When Jesus uses the words “let not,” he is telling us that we have the power of choice. We need not be victims of our personalities or human tendencies or backgrounds. The road to victory is rocky and uphill, but God gives us the pattern for that victory:

Do not be anxious about everything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:6-8)

Precious Lord, I confess that it is much easier to make excuses for myself than to intentionally grow in faith. Help me face myself honestly, confess to you my lack of discipline, and then trust you to give me wisdom and strength to change.

Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you 1 Peter 5:6-7

Thought

You’ve probably had a similar experience to this one. Someone asks you how you’re doing. At first, they seem interested, but as you begin to share the burdens of your heart, you begin to realize that they aren’t really listening and aren’t really interested; they’re just being polite. Most people have so many burdens they simply don’t know what to do with more. Our Father in heaven, however, says “Cast all your anxieties on me. You can share all of them with me, because I genuinely care for you.”

Prayer

Father, I have been blessed in so many ways. Thank you so very much. I do have some really burdensome things, however, that trouble me. Please do with the following concerns what is best for each of the people involved and what brings you the most glory. (Please share your burdens and concerns with the Lord.) I thank you for listening to my words and my heart. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

What It Means to Love God with Heart, Mind, and Soul
Deuteronomy 6:5; 10:12; 11:13; Matthew 22:37; Mark 12:30, 33; Luke 10:27

As regards the love of God—it must have within us a threefold expression, so that nothing remains in us that is not given over to God. We are commanded first to love God “with all our heart.” This means that we must refer all our thoughts to God. We must love Him “with our whole mind”; and this we do when we direct our reason, with which we judge and understand, to the service of God. Then we are bidden to love God “with our whole soul”; that is, we must make all the affections of our soul tend to Him.

May 28 – Do justice, love kindness, walk humbly with your God — Reformed Perspective

Break off your sins by practicing righteousness, and your iniquities by showing mercy to the oppressed, that there may perhaps be a lengthening of your prosperity. – Daniel 4:27

Scripture readings: Daniel 4:19-27Micah 6:8-16

Many years before confronting Nebuchadnezzar through the vision of the chopped-down tree, the LORD sent Micah to warn the Israelites that they were also in grave danger of being cut down. Why? They also were acting with wickedness, violence, and pride. The LORD sent messengers to them – as He later did to Nebuchadnezzar – and yet they would not listen.

Daniel, as a servant of God, anointed with the Spirit of the prophets, brought word to the king with clear examples of what repentance unto everlasting life looks like. Similarly, we find in Proverbs 3:7-8 the instruction to,

“Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD, and turn away from evil. It will be healing to your flesh and refreshment to your bones.”

After all that they had done, the LORD was still willing to grant His forgiveness to those who had turned against Him and forsaken His Word, including a pagan king like Nebuchadnezzar. But the LORD’s instructions to the king went unheeded and he preferred to do what was opposite to what the LORD had told him to do.

When you remember who you are in Christ, you can marvel that the LORD does bring about a work of transformation in your heart so that you do become more ready to act with love and less inclined to hardheartedness and tightfistedness towards your neighbours. He has shown you what is good and He will guide you in that path as you walk with Him!

Suggestions for prayer

Gracious Father, we ask You to embolden us as Your witnesses in a world that constantly rejects You and Your Word. Sanctify us by Your Spirit. Make us ready for the coming of our

Lord Jesus Christ.

‘Born Alive’ Bill Passed by Alabama House & Senate
“There is no such thing as post-birth abortion. Think about those three words. That’s infanticide.” – “That’s what it is and what my bill does is in this situation where a child survives an abortion attempt and is born alive, it would require a physician to exercise the same reasonable care to preserve the life of the child that is born alive,” she continued. “When this happens, if there is any sign of breathing or any other sign of life … there would then exist a doctor-patient relationship between the doctor and the child so that he would be required to exercise the same degree of physical skill and care to make an effort to reasonably preserve the life and health of that child.”

Solar storm: ‘Dense’ CME from sunspot collides with Earth
A SOLAR storm collided with Earth yesterday as experts revealed a “dense” coronal mass ejection (CME) hit our planet. A slow-moving, yet thick, CME hit Earth yesterday. IN TODAY’S DIGEST

FEATURED ANALYSIS

Stop Lowering Your American Flag

Joe Biden is using American flags as political agenda rags.

Mark Alexander

In September of last year, driving by Chattanooga’s largest private school, an outstanding Christian school we have supported for decades with scholarships for at-risk kids, I was dismayed — outraged, actually — to see the enormous flag they proudly fly in front of the school lowered to half-staff. The school is a very well-managed organization, but administrators had never established a policy regarding when to abide by presidential flag proclamations. Thus, a staff person was dutifully following those proclamations when issued.

I was outraged because the flag was lowered in memorial honor after the death of Ruth Bader Ginsburg, the result of a proclamation by then-president Donald Trump. The school is now working on a policy regarding its flag.

Presidential flag proclamations apply only to federal installations, not to state and local government installations, and certainly not to private organizations — all of which may elect to lower their flags.

Trump’s RBG order followed the standardized flag etiquette proclamation for lowering flags set by President Dwight Eisenhower in 1954. Eisenhower ordered that flags should be lowered for 30 days after the death of the president or a former president and for 10 days after the death of the vice president or a SCOTUS chief justice or a speaker of the House. For an associate justice and other notable national leaders, the flag is to be displayed at half-staff from the day of death until interment. The flag is lowered for one day following the death of a member of Congress.

There are annual days when flags are lowered on federal installations: Peace Officers Memorial Day (15 May, sunrise to sunset); Memorial Day (last Monday in May, sunrise to 1200); Patriot Day (11 September, sunrise to sunset); National Firefighters Memorial Day (first Sunday in October, sunrise to sunset); and Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day (7 December, sunrise to sunset). It is appropriate and fitting that private organizations also honor these annual days for lowering flags, most notable among them being Memorial Day. To understand why ALL Americans should honor Memorial Day and reject the use of that day for commercial profiteering, read our latest veteran profile, “An Orphan’s Medal of Honor,” and visit our Memorial Day tribute page. Also see our flag etiquette page.

Legitimate reasons for ordering flags to half-staff notwithstanding, over Joe Biden’s first months of unprecedented presidential malfeasance, he has repeatedly ordered American flags to half-staff to align with his race-hustling and gun control political agendas. That prompted my first objection to this degradation of our flag two months into the Biden/Harris regime change: “Biden Uses Flags as Political Rags.”

Five times since then, Biden has ordered flags to half-staff to memorialize the victims of mass killings where the assailant used a firearm, the latest being the San Jose tragedy where nine of our fellow Americans were killed. In each of those cases, on the heels of his proclamations Biden has disgracefully used those incidents to promote his assault on the Second Amendment — an abject desecration of flag proclamations.

For the record, regarding such tragedies, only a sociopath would feel no sense of empathy for the families and friends of those who have been murdered or violently assailed by sociopaths. But for perspective, beyond the high-profile incidents where innocents are murdered, in 2020 there was a surge in the daily murder average, now estimated at more than 52 murders every day. Those murders occur primarily in Democrat-controlled urban centers, and arguably they’re a direct generational result of Democrat social policies. Of course, honoring those victims does not fit the Demos’ political narrative, and changing those policies does not fit their agenda.

Bottom line, America: STOP lowering your flags to comport with politically motivated flag proclamations.

The Democrats Are Tough on Crime?

James Carville is desperately trying to make the case that his party stands for law and order.

Douglas Andrews

James Carville is a shrewd strategist and a keen political observer, but he’s neither a hypnotist nor a magician. So, try as he might, he won’t be able to keep folks from spewing coffee all over their monitors when they hear him say, “The modern Democratic Party is flat-out better on crime than Republicans.”

No one believes that. Not even Carville himself.

A month ago, Carville took to Vox, a leftist news outlet, to sound the alarm about wokeism. He knows that while his party and its radical base have embraced the issue, no one else has. “Wokeness is a problem and everyone knows it,” he said with Carvillian candor. “Maybe tweeting that we should abolish the police isn’t the smartest thing to do because almost f—king no one wants to do that.”

This week, though, in a Wall Street Journal op-ed, Carville has chosen to be a lot less candid. He begins:

From 1993 to 2019, crime steadily decreased in the U.S. Every president since Bill Clinton inherited a declining crime rate and left office with a further decline in crime rate, until Donald J. Trump came along. During Mr. Trump’s final year in office, violent crimes and homicides spiked. Yet if you tuned into Fox News, you’d draw the conclusion that the Democratic Party is opposed to law and order.

No, James, we’d draw that conclusion because the Democratic [sic] Party is opposed to law and order. One need only look back on the past year to see ample evidence of it. The George Floyd riots, and the demonization of the cops, and the Democrats’ calls to defund the police — all of these things were brought to us by the Democrats. And all of them say the same thing: soft on crime.

Carville tries to distract us by disingenuously calling Donald Trump’s presidency “one long crime wave.” It wasn’t. “Eight of his campaign associates were put in shackles,” he writes, without saying a word about the Democrats’ three-year Russia collusion hoax that railroaded them into unrelated criminal convictions.

What Carville refuses to acknowledge, though, is that when the American people see footage of 72-year-old Paul Manafort being perp-walked for the crime of failing to register as a foreign lobbyist, they don’t think, Ahh, the Republicans are soft on crime.

But when they see footage of urban centers in flames, and widespread looting, and downtown shopping districts being boarded up, and statues of our Founding Fathers being defiled, and Black Lives Matter thugs harassing restaurant patrons, and leftist rabble chanting “Pigs in a blanket, fry ‘em like bacon” — when they see all these things, they absolutely do think, Ahh, the Democrats are soft on crime.

Nice try, James, but it’s not gonna work.

Carville calls himself “a proud Democrat,” but no one believes that. Oh, he used to be a proud Democrat, back in the ’90s, but these days he’s an alarmed Democrat, an anguished Democrat, because he knows better than anyone that his party has taken a hard left turn since the days of the more centrist Bill Clinton.

Our nation’s big-city law enforcement agencies have never before engaged in self-preserving pull-backs from the urban areas where policing is most desperately needed. But they do today. And the result has been widespread mayhem. Cops are quitting in droves. And they’re not quitting because of a lack of support from Republicans. They’re quitting because they’ve been demonized and defunded by Democrats.

Last night, Tucker Carlson covered the Democrats’ efforts to whitewash their party’s many calls to defund the police by substituting the word “reimagine” for the word “defund.” It’s a desperate ruse, and the American people will see through it.

James Carville is a brilliant dude. But he’s not playing it straight right now. He’s not coming clean. In his heart of hearts he knows that his party, the Democrat Party, is without a doubt the anti-cop party, the soft-on-crime party.

If crime is an issue in the 2022 midterms, the Democrats will be on the losing end of it. And no amount of reimagination will make it otherwise.

The Big Border Lie

DHS Secretary Mayorkas laughably tells Congress “the border is closed.”

Thomas Gallatin

“The border is closed,” asserted Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas during his testimony before the House Appropriations Committee on Wednesday. Despite the number of illegal immigrants crossing into the U.S. over the past three months hitting record highs, Mayorkas insisted that there is no migrant “invasion.”

Mayorkas made his reality-denying claim in response to the arguments of Republican Congressman Chuck Fleischmann. “Frankly,” Fleischmann said, “it appears that President Biden’s message to one and all is the U.S. has no limits to who can come because the administration will not enforce any of its immigration laws. Is that the message, that this country will not enforce its immigration laws?”

“No, it’s not,” Mayorkas insisted. “The president could not have been clearer in his articulation of this administration’s position, nor could I have been clearer and continue to be so, which is the border is closed, and this administration administers and enforces the laws of the United States of America — and that is not only the laws of accountability but also the humanitarian laws that Congress passed years ago.”

To be honest, it may be difficult to determine what was the bigger lie uttered by Mayorkas — that “the border is closed,” or that Biden could not be clearer regarding his administration’s border enforcement. What is clear is that Mayorkas is bending the truth on both counts.

When pressed on the massive drop in the number of deportations despite the increase in illegal crossings, Mayorkas essentially played dumb. Of the deportation statistics reported by the the Washington Post, he declared, “I do not believe it is accurate,” though he could not or would not provide any specific numbers himself.

His testimony was classic political spin and obfuscation. Another example: “Enforcement is not a quantitative issue; it is a qualitative one. The question is as to whom are we dedicating our resources and what will deliver the greatest public-safety results for the American public, and that is what I am focused on.”

Mayorkas’s obvious intent was to dispel the reality of the current border crisis by pushing the false narrative that the Biden administration has effectively “closed the border.” But Republicans weren’t having any of it. Representative Steven Palazzo insisted, “It looks like you rolled out a big welcome mat that says ‘send us your kids,’ and that is criminal. Because as long as they know if they get to our border we’re going to take them and turn them into American citizens and let them roam free [in] our country, people desperate in those countries are going to continue to take the risk.”

Meanwhile, Joe Biden’s border czar, Kamala Harris, has gone some 65 days without yet visiting the U.S. southern border, though she did famously find the suggestion that she do so quite hilarious. It appears that this strategy is because the Biden administration doesn’t want any media focus on the border crisis. Thus, Team Biden can play the game of blaming the massive illegal immigration problem not on lack of border enforcement but rather on the lack of funding for the Central American nations known as the Northern Triangle. Hence Harris’s announcement of a big “investment” to ostensibly address the problem at its source.

As Harris expressed to a group of Guatemalan leaders earlier this month, “I don’t need to tell you this — injustice is a root cause of migration. It is causing the people of the region to leave their homes involuntarily, meaning they don’t want to leave but they are fleeing. Women, Indigenous people, Afro-descendants, LGBTQ people are facing discrimination and persecution; families are living in fear of trafficking and gangs.”

The irony: They’re being trafficked into the U.S. by gangs.

If there is any clear message on the problem of illegal immigration coming from the Biden administration, it’s that it’s America’s fault people are illegally crossing the border in droves, because we haven’t “invested” enough in corrupt Central American countries. “Blame America First” is a particularly pernicious facet of Biden’s big border lie.

Moderate Joe’s $6 Trillion Tax-and-Spend Plan

Biden is anything but moderate, and he’s doing nothing to bring unity.

Nate Jackson

The Six Trillion Dollar Man is at it again. After pitching $6 trillion in new spending already in his short presidency, Joe Biden released his budget today and it’s — you guessed it — also $6 trillion. And you’re going to pay for it.

Now, first of all, presidential budgets are largely meaningless. Congress does its own thing, while the president merely gets to hold up a sign signifying his priorities. Yet Biden’s budget, which incorporates much of his already-proposed big spending projects in the American Jobs Plan and the American Families Plan, is hugely significant because it shows yet again that while voters thought they were electing a moderate, they instead got a less coherent version of Bernie Sanders.

We hate to say we told you so.

Let’s start with how Biden’s budget will be “paid for.” We put that in scare quotes for good reason, which we’ll get to in a moment.

Naturally, Biden calls for major tax increases. First, he wants to raise income taxes on households earning more than $400,000, which technically violates his campaign pledge to not raise taxes on individuals earning less than $400,000. Neither threshold sounds very “middle class” to most Americans, and “fair share” taxation polls well, so Democrats figure they can get away with it. Just remember that the initial income tax in 1917 was never supposed to hit the middle class either.

Moreover, Democrats intend for the 2017 Republican rates for everyone to expire in 2025. As even the New York Times admits, that means tax hikes for everyone.

Meanwhile, Biden and his progressive pal Elizabeth Warren want to boost IRS enforcement, hoping to generate $70 billion more annual revenue through catching tax cheats and closing loopholes. A bigger, more powerful IRS? What could go wrong?

Yet where Biden really wants to pick the pockets of Americans already faced with the Carter-esque malaise of rampant inflation is a hefty hike in the corporate income tax rate, from 21% to 28%. Anyone who doesn’t think businesses will raise prices to pay for that tax bill doesn’t know anything about economics.

As far as “paying for” anything, even assuming the unlikely event that these tax hikes will actually generate the projected revenue, deficits will explode.

When Bill Clinton infamously declared in his 1996 State of the Union Address that the “era of big government is over,” he then submitted to Congress his FY1997 budget, which totaled $1.6 trillion. Joe Biden’s deficit will be $1.8 trillion, and it will remain above $1.3 trillion each year for a decade.

“Total debt held by the public would more than exceed the annual value of economic output, rising to 117 percent of the size of the economy in 2031,” the Times also reports. “By 2024, debt as a share of the economy would rise to its highest level in American history, eclipsing a World War II-era record.”

Former President Donald Trump was no fiscal hawk. Spending grew yugely on his watch, and we criticized him for it. But Biden and the Democrats are doing what they always do — exploiting a crisis to raise the spending floor for their “investments” that greatly expand the welfare state and make government increasingly bigger every year.

No wonder Biden warned Republicans not to “get in the way” of his spending initiatives. Presumably he means to dismiss the GOP’s still-absurd $928 billion infrastructure counteroffer. Biden’s plan has come down a bit from $2.3 trillion to a mere $1.7 trillion, and Republicans made their pitch on Thursday to finally do something bipartisan.

Don’t hold your breath, because $6 Trillion Joe is no moderate bringing unity.

Cullors Takes BLM Retirement Package

A bit of scandal may have surrounded her of late, but she’s still sitting pretty.

Nate Jackson

Patrisse Cullors made her millions, bought her big houses in white neighborhoods, and is now taking — at age 37 — an early retirement of sorts. The Black Lives Matter cofounder announced yesterday that she is resigning from the organization.

“I’ve created the infrastructure and the support and the necessary bones and foundation so that I can leave,” she said with obvious self-satisfaction. “It feels like the time is right.”

Nice work if you can get it and retire to one of your four homes.

“I have never taken a salary from the Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation,” said the self-proclaimed “trained Marxist” when controversy over her real estate deals surfaced in April. “And that’s important because what the right-wing media is trying to say is, the donations that people have made to Black Lives Matter went toward my spending, and that is categorically untrue and incredibly dangerous.”

So, then, where did her money come from? At least in part through a side hustle consulting firm she owned. We’re sure it was completely independent from BLM.

Except, no, it wasn’t. She peddled her influence by swapping money from one hand to the other.

“There is another class of colored people who make a business of keeping the troubles, the wrongs, and the hardships of the Negro race before the public,” Booker T. Washington once said. “Having learned that they are able to make a living out of their troubles, they have grown into the settled habit of advertising their wrongs — partly because they want sympathy and partly because it pays. Some of these people do not want the Negro to lose his grievances, because they do not want to lose their jobs.”

Cullors may have given up her job, but she sure cashed in on fomenting misery for others.

‘60 Minutes’ of ‘Transgender’ Regret

CBS interviewed several people who very much rue their decisions.

Brian Mark Weber

The next time your teen child’s feeling a bit anxious about life, think twice about sending him to counseling. These days, he’s likely to be told he’s suffering from gender dysphoria.

Sadly, this isn’t an exaggeration. Instead of providing troubled teens and young adults with the support they need, so-called professionals often tell them the pathway to peace and happiness is through puberty blockers, hormones, and surgery.

From Hollywood to young adult fiction to guest speakers in your child’s elementary school classroom, the “transgender” lifestyle is portrayed as a panacea. And the very people we want our young people to trust, such as pastors and teachers, are now agents of an insidious gender-bending cult. The Rainbow Mafia couldn’t be happier to perpetuate the glamorous “transgender” lifestyle, no matter how many lives are ruined.

The Internet offers gender-questioning youth countless videos and websites about the rewards of supposedly transitioning to a new gender. Coupled with an ever-growing culture of affirmation, these sources of information drive our young people into the abyss.

Certainly, much of this comes from the entertainment industry, also known as the cesspool of American culture.

HBO’s documentary “Transhood” features real-life stories of parents forcing their children to accept and celebrate their new gender, even though some of the kids aren’t old enough to have any idea what’s being done to them.

One child is four years old.

Dr. Michelle Cretella, the executive director of the American College of Pediatrics, stated in an interview, “America is engaged in large-scale child abuse … and complicit in this is my field.” She adds that “14 states and 44 counties have banned therapies for transgender youth, essentially forcing them into this condition.”

Cretella is right. This is child abuse.

Age of consent laws are in place because children don’t have the emotional or psychological development to know the serious consequences of their choices. Yet kids far younger are being brainwashed into thinking they were born in the wrong body.

With that background, and just when it seemed the Leftmedia wouldn’t dare question the dark side of the transgender movement, CBS ran a surprising segment on “60 Minutes” this week featuring young people who reversed course after various stages of gender “treatment.” Each recounted how the initial process was made far too easy for them.

When asked by “60 Minutes” host Lesly Stahl about her therapy session, one of the victims revealed that the therapist didn’t “really go into what my gender dysphoria might’ve been stemming from” because “we only did a few sessions.”

In other words, No need for us to figure out what’s going on, kid. Let me get you some hormone treatments. By the way, are you free next Tuesday for surgery?

Another man-turned-woman interviewed for the program was approved for cross-sex hormone treatment after only two therapy sessions. That led to breast augmentation and castration within three months. Only then did he feel suicidal.

Of course, the “transgender” community is outraged at “60 Minutes” and Stahl. But to her credit, Stahl stands by her report.

We can only hope the “60 Minutes” program is a starting point about having real, honest conversations about the abuse of children and young adults taking place under the guise of embracing one’s “real” gender.

Finally, professionals across a range of fields in medicine and counseling are beginning to wonder if it’s all going too far.

And, yes, there’s plenty of research showing that what’s being done to kids is experimental. Thankfully, some lawmakers in states like Texas are taking bold action. And just last year, a court in the UK ruled that minors cannot consent to puberty blockers or cross-sex hormones.

These are all critical steps in the right direction, but the fight has just begun to stop the Rainbow Mafia from experimenting on our children and destroying their lives.

Lockheed Martin and the Woke Industrial Complex

Our nation’s largest defense contractor has thrown in with the woke supremacists.

Douglas Andrews

It’s perhaps just a sad sign of the times that a company called White Men as Full Diversity Partners (WMFDP) is not some satirical sendup by the Babylon Bee but rather an actual American business with dozens of employees — headquartered, just as antifa is, in the scenic cesspool of Portland, Oregon.

And if so, it’s an even sadder sign of the times that Lockheed Martin, our nation’s largest defense contractor, was suckered into spending good money with WMFDP. Indeed, as City Journal’s Christopher Rufo reports, Lockheed Martin sent its white male executives to what was labeled as a “white men’s caucus” — “a three-day diversity-training program aimed at deconstructing their ‘white male culture’ and encouraging them to atone for their ‘white male privilege.’”

This isn’t the first we’ve heard of this comically named outfit. Last year, Rufo reported on its white male training program for employees of the somewhat consequential Sandia National Laboratories, whose mission is to provide engineering and science support for our nation’s nuclear weapons stockpile. As Rufo writes, “That began a series of reports leading to President Trump’s Executive Order 13950, banning racial stereotyping, scapegoating, and discrimination in federal diversity programs. The Trump ban, however, was temporary; President Biden rescinded the order on his first day in office.” Thanks, Joe.

The Lockheed Martin program begins, as Rufo reports, with some Freudian free association, where corporate trainers rattle off terms related to “white men” — terms such as “founding fathers,” “guns,” “old,” “angry,” “racist,” “Aryan Nation,” and the like. You know — the run-of-the-mill things we usually associate with white men. Then the consultants ply the participants with promises of improving the Lockheed Martin brand and the reputation of the company’s white men, and they introduce a little fear by assuring them that a full-on embrace of wokeness might keep them from being replaced by a “full diversity partner.”

Finally, the execs are told to reflect on a series of “I’m tired” statements — “tired of you making more money than me,” “tired of black boys being murdered,” “tired of Black Lives Matter being disparaged,” and “tired of hearing how we need a wall on our southern border but not our northern one.” Nothing like a little infusion of white guilt dressed up as empathy training.

We wonder, though: Wouldn’t Lockheed Martin — and the Department of Defense — have been better served by convening a three-day summit of its entire leadership team (not just the white guys) to, say, tackle the colossal cost overruns of its $1.7 trillion F-35 II Lightning fighter program? (Asking for a taxpayer.)

Last week, we reported on Space Force Lieutenant Colonel Matthew Lohmeier, who was relieved of his command for having spoken out against Critical Race Theory and other Marxist indoctrination taking place throughout the U.S. military. And in February, we analyzed the Pentagon’s plan to investigate extremism in the ranks, by which military brass essentially meant “Trump voters.” Our military has been set dangerously adrift, and the saboteurs are the ardent leftists in Joe Biden’s White House and Pentagon. And with Rufo’s revelation about Lockheed Martin, we now know that the woke virus has jumped from the DOD to our nation’s defense contractors.

Why does all this matter? Because the more time our warfighters and their defense contractors spend listening to “diversity and inclusion” consultants and navel-gazing about how concepts such as hard work, rugged individualism, and striving for success are “the roots of white male culture” and are thus “devastating” to women and minorities, the less time they spend training for war and building better war-fighting gear.

Our military’s core mission is to deter or win wars and ensure our nation’s security. To this point, that mission has served us pretty well. But any activity that distracts or deviates from it only serves our nation’s enemies.

Zuckerberg’s Outsized Election Interference

The Big Tech tycoon spent hundreds of millions to support Democrat electioneering in 2020.

Thomas Gallatin

During the 2020 election cycle, Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg, along with his wife, Priscilla Chan, spent hundreds of millions in electioneering efforts backing Democrat candidates. The Zuckerbergs donated an eye-popping $350 million to the Center for Tech and Civic Life (CTCL), a leftist organization that in turn gave the money in grants to some 2,500 municipalities in 49 states.

Investigative journalist Steve Miller reports, “In exchange for the money, elections divisions agreed to conduct their elections according to conditions set out by the CTCL, which is led by former members of the New Organizing Institute, a training center for progressive groups and Democratic campaigns.”

Not only did Zuckerberg give money, he also used his social media platform to provide support for his favored leftist political agenda.

“Facebook, with the CTCL, was also part of the effort, providing a guide and webinar for election officials on how to engage voters,” Miller notes. “Included were directions to report ‘voter interference’ to Facebook authorities. The company also provided designated employees in six regions of the U.S. to handle questions. Together, the groups strategically targeted voters and waged a voter assistance campaign aimed at low-income and minority residents who typically shun election participation, helping Democratic candidates win key spots all over the U.S.”

As Hayden Dublois, a researcher at the Foundation of Government Accountability, observed, “This private funding has never been done before. We hear about dark money and corporations buying ads, but never have we seen hundreds of millions of private dollars going into the conducting of elections. And states didn’t have any laws on the books to stop it.”

One of CTCL’s biggest successes was pushing for municipalities to adopt the Democrats’ bulk-mail ballot scheme. One example Miller notes was that “the Zuckerberg-funded CTCL allowed elections departments to use grant money to buy vehicles to transport ‘voter navigators.’” He adds, “The election department in Green Bay, Wis., promised as part of its CTCL grant of $1 million that it would employ the vote navigators to ‘assist voters, potentially at their front doors, to answer questions … and witnessing absentee ballot signatures.’”

Some of these “voter navigators” engaged in a process known as “curing absentee ballots.” This apparently entailed “fixing” ballots that had been incorrectly filled out. Many states allow for voters to fix such ballots, though it is not mandatory that voters are contacted if their ballots need fixing, due to lack of time and manpower. CTCL took the opportunity to fund and operate the “ballot curing” endeavors, which tellingly focused on boosting Democrat voting demographics.

“In Georgia,” Miller found, “the grants were used to expand curbside voting and conduct ‘the necessary voter outreach … to promote absentee voting and encourage higher percentages of our electors to vote absentee,’ according to a grant application.”

The CTCL also focused on boosting Democrat voter turnout in Democrat-friendly areas in an effort to overcome Republican margins. For example, Miller points out, “President Trump took the reliably Republican state of Missouri in 2020, but Joe Biden increased the Democratic presidential vote and won Boone County by 7,000 votes. Hillary Clinton had a 5,000-vote margin in 2016.” Similarly, “In Webb County, Texas, which received $2.8 million from CTCL, voter registrations increased by 10,000 over 2016. The new recruits in the South Texas county voted for Biden by a two to one margin.”

The great irony in this is that Democrats have long decried private and “dark” money in politics. Yet somehow it’s no surprise to find that they are the party most guilty of engaging in the practice.

How to Keep Your Children Safe from Predators

Article Image
 • https://www.theorganicprepper.com, by Chloe Morgan

However, this world is full of predators and people looking to kidnap children for various reasons. Most days, we don’t think about it. But, it is a terrifying thought when we do. A few years ago, we shared a video about just how easily a child abduction can happen featuring children whose parents thought they knew the importance of stranger danger. It was an eye-opener.

To help decrease the risk of kidnapping, here are some tips on ways to help your children prepare and be more aware of their surroundings.

The Statistics

According to the NCIC Missing Person and Unidentified Person Statistics results from 2020:

543,028 kidnappings occurred last year

Approximately 67% of those kidnapped were children under the age of 17

In most cases, when a child is kidnapped, it is by someone they already know. There are, however, many cases where someone tries to abduct a child they do not know. And they will sometimes get away with it, which is truly tragic.

Ari Fleischer can’t believe press asking Biden about ice cream flavors: ‘I’m just shaking my head’

Fox News contributor Ari Fleischer said Friday that questions about President Biden’s ice cream flavor of choice was “embarrassing” and indicative of the soft coverage the White House has enjoyed in its first months in office.
