“He that takes truth for his guide, and duty for his end, may safely trust to God’s providence to lead him aright.” – Blaise Pascal. "There is but one straight course, and that is to seek truth and pursue it steadily" – George Washington letter to Edmund Randolph — 1795. We live in a “post-truth” world. According to the dictionary, “post-truth” means, “relating to or denoting circumstances in which objective facts are less influential in shaping public opinion than appeals to emotion and personal belief.” Simply put, we now live in a culture that seems to value experience and emotion more than truth. Truth will never go away no matter how hard one might wish. Going beyond the MSM idealogical opinion/bias and their low information tabloid reality show news with a distractional superficial focus on entertainment, sensationalism, emotionalism and activist reporting – this blogs goal is to, in some small way, put a plug in the broken dam of truth and save as many as possible from the consequences—temporal and eternal. "The further a society drifts from truth, the more it will hate those who speak it." – George Orwell “There are two ways to be fooled. One is to believe what isn’t true; the other is to refuse to believe what is true.” ― Soren Kierkegaard
Do Not Fear; You Have No Life to Lose Matthew 10:38; 16:24–25; 19:29; Mark 8:34–35; 10:29; Luke 9:23–24; 18:29
Why should you fear to be stripped of that which you have resigned already to Christ? It is the first lesson you learn, if a Christian: to deny yourself, take up your cross, and follow your Master, so that the enemy comes too late. You have no life to lose because you have given it already to Christ, nor can man take away that without God’s leave. All you have is insured, and though God has not promised you immunity from suffering in this kind, yet he has undertaken to bear the loss, indeed, to pay you a hundredfold, and you will not stay for it till another world.

In military battles, it’s important to gather intelligence about the opposition. Shouldn’t we do the same in spiritual warfare? Listen to Truth For Life as Alistair Begg answers this question and more as we begin a new study in Ephesians 6.
Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not. (Jeremiah 33:3)
God encourages us to pray. They tell us that prayer is a pious exercise which has no influence except upon the mind engaged in it. We know better. Our experience gives the lie a thousand times over to this infidel assertion. Here Jehovah, the living God, distinctly promises to answer the prayer of His servant. Let us call upon Him again and admit no doubt upon the question of His hearing us and answering us. He that made the ear, shall He not hear? He that gave parents a love to their children, will He not listen to the cries of His own sons and daughters!
God will answer His pleading people in their anguish. He has wonders in store for them. What they have never seen, heard of, or dreamed of, He will do for them. He will invent new blessings if needful. He will ransack sea and land to feed them: He will send every angel out of heaven to succor them if their distress requires it. He will astound us with His grace and make us feel that it was never before done in this fashion. All He asks of us is that we will call upon Him. He cannot ask less of us. Let us cheerfully render Him our prayers at once.
The Southern Baptist Convention met and fought this week. Some who lost are talking about “leaving.”One person, seriously or in jest I cannot tell, proposed that Baptists and P&R churches should merge. This is impossible for many reasons:
The words Reformed and Baptist mean something and they are and always have been mutually exclusive. In the 16th century, the Reformed rejected the Anabaptists as “sects,” and “fanatics” for their reading of redemptive history (denying the unity of the covenant of grace), for their Christology, their soteriology, their view of the church and sacraments (of course), and their views of the Christian’s place in society.
The Reformed churches of the British Isles (and Europe) rejected the Baptist churches in the 17th century for many (not all) of the same reasons. The same problems with the reading of redemptive history remained, the problem of the church and sacraments remained. The initial response by many British Reformed theologians was to denounce the Particular Baptists (i.e., the wing that affirmed some aspects of the Reformed doctrine of salvation) as “Anabaptists.” That was not entirely correct but it is telling that they responded that way.
No one, certainly not the Particular Baptists, was calling the Particular Baptists (as distinct from the General Baptists) “Reformed.” Neither should we.
No one called the Particular Baptists “Calvinists” either. Neither should we. The expression “Calvinistic Baptist” implies that Calvin’s and Calvinistic theology can be reduced to some aspects of the doctrine of salvation. That would be a shock to Calvin, who confessed a great deal more than the “doctrines of grace.” The historical and theological reality is that the Baptists and the P&R traditions are distinct. They are not essentially one with, as many people assume, some minor differences.
As I compare the differences between the Second London (Baptist) Confession (1689) with the Westminster I realize that I have been mislead by the formal similarities between the two. I am not alone. When we compare them closely we will find there to be significant differences between them, which differences are illuminating of the substantial differences between the two confessions.
We know that both traditions realize that the words Baptist and Reformed are distinct when a Baptist minister seeks admission to the ministry of a P&R church without changing his views on the history of redemption (e.g., he still denies one covenant of grace, multiple administrations), church, and sacraments). He cannot be admitted and the same would be true of the P&R minister who, because he baptizes hitherto unbaptized converts, wants to call himself a Baptist. The Baptists rightly protest: “But there’s much more to being Baptist.”
I hope to address these in an upcoming series. For now see the resource page on defining Reformed.
The Bible does not condemn the occasional drink in moderation. Rather, what is condemned is excessive drinking to the point of drunkenness. Why do people overindulge? Some get drunk to fit in with those of the world, but in doing so they alienate themselves from God. Some get drunk thinking it will make them happy when it only brings an artificial happiness. Some get drunk to escape reality and the problems of life when in fact, it provides only a temporary escape. Some get drunk in an attempt to drown the sorrows or sins of the past only to compound their sin and misery. Every picture of drunkenness in the Bible is a picture of sin and misery. Sadly, alcohol addiction is a real and increasing problem in our Christian churches and families.
Rather than getting drunk or resorting to some other kind of addictive habit such as drugs, self-harm, pornography, sex, etc… God’s Word commands us to be filled with the Holy Spirit. As one author noted, “Be filled is passive, not active”. It is not something we can do. God must do it. But we are responsible to seek that state of fullness.” People who become drunk are ruled by the bottle unto ruin.
People filled with the Spirit are ruled by the Spirit unto a life of blessedness to the praise and glory of God.
Suggestions for prayer
Pray for those with addictive, destructive habits. Pray to be filled more and more by the Spirit to live a Spirit-filled, God-honoring and glorifying life in dependence upon the Spirit.

With summer here, the stormy winter and chilly evenings of recent months have quickly been forgotten. One morning, however, my heart felt like a lingering storm. Numerous needs “my own and others” were crashing in on me like an unexpected whirlwind.
Casting these burdens on the Lord, I was suddenly awakened to a scene quietly unfolding outside my window. Like a fitting backdrop, tall fir trees lining our neighbor’s fence stood motionless, being what they were created to be. Without a word, early summer flowers were telling of their Creator’s faithfulness and love for beauty. Soon, a sparrow entered to complete the picture, not planting seeds or gathering food into a barn, but happily discovering and enjoying what our heavenly Father had provided for him. This hushed scene struck me with its peacefulness – a sharp contrast to my stormy heart.
Distracted by this stillness, my thoughts turned to a particular storm in the lives of the disciples – one in which their Maker slept on a pillow. The disciples weren’t sleeping. With an unexpected storm crashing in on them, their lives were in turmoil. But when they woke Jesus, He commanded the stormy winds and waves to be still. And they obeyed.
Creation busies itself by resting in its Creator’s authority and by obeying the same command given to us: “Be still, and know that I am God.” (Psalm 46:10a)
He is God. And that’s all we need to know to be still.
Father, Thank you for rest promised to those who remember that You are God. Knowing who You are, we seek Your strength to be still. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
Considering Ourselves Righteous by Comparing Ourselves with Others Romans 3:23; 5:12
The generality make out their righteousness by comparing themselves with some others whom they think worse. A woman of the town, who was dying of [sexually transmitted] disease in the Lock Hospital, was offended at a minister speaking to her as a sinner because she had never picked a pocket.

The Biden White House is telling the new Israeli government how to control the Temple Mount It’s reversal of what has been the policy under the Netanyahu government over the past few years to pretty much allow Jews up on the Temple Mount. This was a real set back. The Knesset member wanted to go up, he has every legal right to do so he said and the police stopped it. Well this comes a mid reports that the Biden Administration is putting strong pressure on Naftali Bennett and Yair Lapid, the two new leaders of the new government to calm the situation in Jerusalem. To do nothing, to light up the situation was one quote. The Palestinians, Hamas we just talked about they of course ceased on this and said no Jews up there at all anymore, we’re going to defend Al-Aqsa. They continue to talk like that everyday. So that is the issue that the Palestinians and Muslims everywhere really use against Israel more than any. That is the most sensitive site on Earth real estate wise and indeed the situation there is also very very ruling.
Biden gets confused, struggles to speak for 28 seconds straight Joe Biden’s brain malfunctioned for 28 awkward seconds on Tuesday while he spoke at the European Union summit in Brussels, just a day before he is scheduled to sit down with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Geneva. Biden was addressing a roomful of EU leaders about the country being “back” when his comments slipped into utter nonsense for roughly half a minute. What began as a lucid but boring conference soon became a wreck when the president’s brain inexplicably misfired.
Biden Administration Asks Americans to Report ‘Potentially’ Radicalized Friends and Family Joe Biden’s administration announced their plans to create ways for Americans to report radicalized friends and family to the government, in an effort to fight domestic terrorism. In a conversation with reporters, one senior administration official explained the importance of stopping politically fueled violence before it started. “We will work to improve public awareness of federal resources to address concerning or threatening behavior before violence occurs,” the official said. The official cited the Department of Homeland Security’s “If you see something say something” campaign to help stop radical Islamic terror as a domestic possibility.
Lessons From A North Korean Defector: US Schools Have Become Brainwashing Center A long time ago, the left decided that one of the best ways to transform U.S. society would be to take over the education system, and that conquest is now complete. From the very top to the very bottom, the left completely and utterly dominates our system of education, and at this point our schools are little more than public indoctrination centers. I spent more than a third of my life in those schools, and so I know what I am talking about. Unfortunately, things have continued to spiral downhill since I received my last degree in 2003.
Netanyahu refers to new Bennett-led government as ‘Sodom’ On Sunday evening, Israel’s longest-serving prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, bid farewell. Facebook exec admits his ‘fact-checkers’ could be biased An executive for Facebook, Vice President Nick Clegg, has confessed that the company’s “fact-checkers” could be biased “and pursuing their own political agendas.” The comments from Clegg were reported by the Daily Mail, which said the United Kingdom’s former deputy prime minister made the admission to European Union officials during a discussion about misinformation online. Conservatives and Republicans have charged for months – even years – that the assembly of “fact-checkers” put together by Facebook is, in fact, extremely leftist in its political bent, and the results of those “fact-checking” escapades prove it.

Biden launches Domestic Terrorism Strategy targeting anti-gov’t ideology, white supremacy and more The White House on Tuesday announced President Joe Biden’s National Strategy for Countering Domestic Terrorism, a first-of-its-kind, four-pillared approach to improve how domestic terrorism is defined, identified, and combated. The strategy’s main aim is to target those with racist or anti-government ideology, which the administration says is espoused by domestic terrorists. The strategy says that experts and evidence have shown today’s domestic terrorists include those who espouse “racial or ethnic bigotry and hatred” as well as “anti-government or anti-authority sentiment.” However, anti-law enforcement ideologies such as those espoused by Antifa and Black Lives Matter were not mentioned. The administration official also added that the strategy will include enhanced partnerships with tech companies in the effort to identify and combat “domestic terrorism content” online.

“It will be worthy of a free, enlightened, and, at no distant period, a great Nation, to give to mankind the magnanimous and too novel example of a People always guided by an exalted justice and benevolence.” —George Washington (1796)
Charitable giving increased in 2020 by 5% over the prior year.
Despite a global pandemic that precipitated an economic lockdown resulting in millions of people losing their jobs, Americans and their generosity did not likewise take a downturn. Instead, because of the pandemic, the American people became even more generous. According to a newly released report, Americans’ charitable giving in 2020 increased over the year prior by more than 5%.
“Total charitable giving grew 5.1% measured in current dollars over the revised total of $448.66 billion contributed in 2019,” the Annual Report on Philanthropy for 2020 found. “Adjusted for inflation, total giving increased 3.8%.” Individual giving increased by 2.2% to $324.1 billion, setting a record for the highest dollar amount.
Interestingly, giving to churches only rose 1% over 2019 levels. Una Osili, Lilly Family School of Philanthropy at Indiana University associate dean for research and international programs, attributed this to physical restrictions imposed during the pandemic. Osili noted, “Reduced attendance often leads to less contributions.”
However, Osili also identified the rising number of so-called “nones” — individuals without any religious affiliations — as having a future impact on charitable giving as well. “Younger households are less likely to attend services and affiliate,” Osili points out. “A very large [part] of charitable giving overall is correlated with attending services frequently, and also [with religious] affiliation.” That could mean American charity wanes in the coming years.
Yet it’s refreshing to learning that Americans are still by and large very generous folks who are concerned with helping those in need. Even the growing numbers of irreligious Americans should serve as a motivating factor for religious ones, especially Christians, to reach out and share not only their wealth but more importantly their faith. That’s not so much to ensure that America’s generous spirit continues, but rather because the truest generosity is found in a willingness to love people, and especially those who may be the hardest to love.
It’s a day that ought to be unifying, but that many on the Left would rather use to divide.
It’ll be a federal holiday celebrating Republicans freeing Democrat slaves. That’s one way to frame the Juneteenth bill that just unanimously passed the Democrat-controlled Senate and is on its way to passage in the Democrat-controlled House and then Democrat Joe Biden’s signature. So why are Democrats so intent on memorializing a Republican accomplishment?
Many reasons, but deceitful pandering is chief among them.
Now, don’t get us wrong — Juneteenth is absolutely worth celebrating. It marks the freeing of the last slaves in America on June 19, 1865, in Galveston, Texas, and it was the real-world end of an evil institution in this country. Some 47 states, including Texas, already observe it as a holiday. It ought to be a unifying occasion for Americans of every race.
“Happy that my bill to recognize Juneteenth as a national holiday just passed the Senate,” said Texas Senator John Cornyn, the Republican author of the bill. “It has been a state holiday in Texas for more than 40 years. Now more than ever, we need to learn from our history and continue to form a more perfect union.”
Then-Senator Kamala Harris coauthored the legislation with Cornyn last year. It now has 60 Senate cosponsors, including 18 Republicans. Texas Democrat Representative Sheila Jackson Lee introduced companion bipartisan legislation in the House.
The unfortunate thing about a unifying thing like this is the divisive politics. Democrats have spent the last several decades falsely insisting that the parties “switched” sides, especially on the issue of race. The entire reason for this phony narrative is that Democrats see political advantage not in debating ideas but in casting their opponents as racists.
That’s a game these hypocrites ought not to play, given that the Democrat Party is the party of slavery, segregation, the KKK, and the modern welfare state, while the Republican Party was founded in large part to advance abolition and is the party of individual Liberty.
Reinforcing the narrative is why Joe Biden went to Tulsa two weeks ago and railed about how America has made virtually no progress on race since the Tulsa massacre 100 years ago. It’s almost as if Biden has a “race-bait calendar” and every notable date will be highlighted in order keep his “right-wing extremists” conspiracy threat alive and well.
This narrative is why Attorney General Merrick Garland said this week that “the top domestic violent extremist threat” we face today comes from “those who advocated for the superiority of the white race.” It’s why the U.S. military under Biden’s man Lloyd Austin is preoccupied with fighting the phantom menace of “white supremacist extremism” in its own ranks through the advancement of Critical Race Theory training. That won’t solve a problem that isn’t there, though it will torpedo morale and readiness.
And it’s why Democrats are busy pushing “equity” in everything they do, including pushing racist indoctrination in schools and working to revamp the entire American election system through HR 1 and HR 4.
Who knows — Democrats might even trot out their slave-trader garb to mark Juneteenth.
Americans could move beyond the racial divide if Democrats would let us. Nevertheless, if we do say so ourselves, something we said last year still resonates: We’re not naive enough to think that the better angels of our nature are always going to prevail, especially when there’s political gain in fomenting division. But what if all Americans of every race could celebrate Liberty together? If that’s the real aspiration for Juneteenth, it’ll be a day worth commemorating.
Two influential black men have had about enough of the scolds and the censors.
If ever a fat dude was impervious to thin ice, it’s former NBAer and current basketball analyst Charles Barkley. Sir Charles, as he’s known, can say just about anything, even today, and somehow avoid the wrath of the American Left’s Red Guards, the cancel cops. For example:
“Those jackasses who are looting? Those are not real black people. Those are scumbags.”
“There’s a reason they racially profile us. Sometimes it’s wrong, but sometimes it’s right.”
“I don’t know if there’s a gun culture, [but there’s] a crime culture.”
“I’m a black man. I use the N-word. … In the locker room and when I’m with my friends, we use racial slurs. … What I do with my black friends is not up to white America to dictate to me.”
“[It’s] probably not a popular opinion among most people but just looking at the evidence, I agreed with the [Trayvon Martin] verdict.”
“It’s a dirty little secret in our community. … We’re telling kids if you are doing good in schools, you are acting white. If you speak intelligently, then you are acting white. That is bulls**t.”
“There’s some big ol’ women down there [in San Antonio]. That’s a gold mine for Weight Watchers. … They can’t wear no Victoria’s Secret down there.”
Quick: name a white person who could’ve said all those things — or anything remotely resembling those things — and not been canceled tout de suite. You can’t. Because that person doesn’t exist. But Chuck, as he’s also known, does get away with it. Call it black privilege. And let’s be thankful for it — at least in this limited case.
Barkley isn’t a hypocrite, either. He understands the importance of being able to speak freely, to be able to communicate straightforwardly, without a filter, without the looming threat of being canceled. And he sees that freedom now being threatened. “We can’t even have fun anymore,” he said in a recent radio interview. “We’ve had fun all these years, and now all of a sudden in the last year and a half, everybody’s trying to get everybody fired, and it really sucks.”
Barkley went on to say that context matters, but that those calling the shots no longer care about context. “A lot of our bosses are cowards,” he said. “If you crack a joke the wrong way, they’re like, ‘Oh, no, no, no, no. You crossed a line.’”
Comedian Kevin Hart is of a similar bent. Recall that he passed on hosting the 2019 Oscars, when some of his old jokes and tweets seeped out and caused the Permanently Offended to take offense.
In an interview with the UK’s Sunday Times — no doubt because not a single American newspaper wanted to hear his opinion on the subject — Hart, the highest-earning stand-up comic in the world today, spoke about the backlash: “If people want to pull up stuff, go back to the same tweets of old, go ahead. There is nothing I can do. You’re looking at a younger version of myself. A comedian trying to be funny and, at that attempt, failing. Apologies were made. I understand now how it comes off. I look back and cringe. So it’s growth. It’s about growth.”
Growth, sure. But what about not taking each other so seriously? What about honoring mankind’s most important freedom — the freedom to express oneself?
“If there’s a message to take from anything I’ve said,” said Hart, “it’s that in this world of opinion, it’s OK to just disagree. It’s OK to not like what someone did and to say that person wasn’t for me.”
Good stuff, Kevin, but, sadly, far easier said than done.

Party players and activists will probably ignore a report indicating that something’s very wrong.
After Mitt Romney squandered the opportunity to oust Barack Obama in 2012, losing despite Obama’s “jobless recovery” and because of the less-than-enthusiastic backing of a Tea Party movement determined to overturn the still-nascent ObamaCare, Republicans commissioned a navel-gazing report in early 2013 to find out what happened. It told them, among other things, that they needed to moderate on immigration and social issues and improve their outreach to minority voters. The report was so effective that the party’s next presidential nominee ran on a get-tough border security platform and embraced the pro-life movement … while increasing the GOP share of both black and Latino voters.
Far be it from the Democrat Party to consider such a move after the ultimate party man won the 2020 presidential election, but three Democrat-allied groups scratched their collective heads enough about the lack of results at the congressional level that they commissioned a report of their own, asking why the success at the top of the ticket didn’t translate down.
In worrying about the 2022 midterms, the trio — the Third Way think tank, The Collective PAC, and Latino Victory — spent over 70 pages (and thousands of dollars) to learn that the Democrats had an excessively “woke” message that really didn’t sell and they were overly optimistic after success in the 2018 midterms. Heck, longtime Democrat consultant James Carville could have told them that for free. In fact, he did so about a month ago.
One key complaint in the report’s narrative was that Republicans (read: Donald Trump) effectively messaged them into a defensive posture, having to argue they really didn’t mean what they said about defunding the police and of course more lives mattered than just black lives. As political analyst Steven Hayward helpfully pointed out, “I am guessing many Hispanics, who endlessly hear Democratic leaders chant ‘black lives matter,’ rightly wonder — what about us? I doubt they are impressed by being ‘included’ in the broad BIPOC banner the left is offering them as a consolation prize.”
The report goes on to note, “Our assumptions about Dem support among voters of color — and the lack of differentiation in our messaging and outreach within demographic groups — cost us support in key races. … We heard that there were substantial Party and campaign misfires for engaging key demographic groups as a monolith — most notably Latino and Hispanic voters.”
Yet while the report concedes that the GOP is making inroads against “their” Latino vote, Democrats aren’t changing their stance on immigration. Moreover, blue states and cities are only grudgingly opening up their economies, which negatively affects the working class that’s most populated by minority groups.
On the other hand, the authors were pleased with an increase in black voter turnout, albeit this news came with a caveat that their support of Democrats dropped to some degree. Still, they determined that getting a slightly less overwhelming percentage of thousands more blacks to the polls was how they won the Georgia Senate runoffs.
Despite that resounding success, the progressive angst has continued past the election. As one major Democrat donor quoted in the report said, “The primary problem with Defund was not Defund, but the lack of an economic message. We became the party of shutting down the economy, the party of wearing masks, the party of taking kids out of school — not the party of solutions and science.” (And they still aren’t that party.)
And Defund is a problem because it tells the truth about the Left. Elites can afford their own private security, but a party that simultaneously tries to disarm the law-abiding while coddling the law-breaking will not appeal to those suburban voters who still turn out the most. Political analyst Rick Moran may have summed it up best: “[The report] was a waste. All they had to do was ask any Republican who didn’t live in New York or Los Angeles.”
“It’s doubtful that Democrats will learn anything,” concludes Moran. “Activists are already whining that the report blames them for the disaster. It’s true, but party leadership can’t point the finger at them and upset them even more. They need the activists to have any hope of winning in 2022.”
It turned out Republicans were correct in ignoring their 2013 report, but it took the right candidate to forcefully seize the narrative and those don’t come along every day. So it’s a sure bet that the Democrats — who think they’re smarter than all the rest of us — will be convinced that they can fool enough voters to stay in power for another two years despite ignoring any sound advice the report authors dished out.
Federalism, acquiring property, and funding will prevent any construction on a wall for some time.
Texas wants to do what Joe Biden and his administration refuse to do — put a stop to the nearly unchecked massive numbers of migrants illegally surging across the U.S. southern border. In that vein, Governor Greg Abbott last week declared that the Lone Star State “will immediately begin building border barriers in areas where migrants can easily cross the Rio Grande border with Mexico.”
Abbott further justified the decision by noting that “the influx cross the border is out of control, and the Biden administration has shown that [it] is not going to step up and do its job.” So, he continued, “Amidst reports of even more people coming in across the border, we know we have to step up and do more.”
Abbott’s concern is legitimate and his commitment to action is admirable, yet the “how” of the matter may prove to be very difficult. The crux of the issue is the long-running back and forth inherent within a federalist system, which has plagued U.S. immigration enforcement over the last two administrations.
Immigration enforcement has rightly been regarded as under the purview of the federal government — with notable exceptions. State and local governments reacted against the federal government when Donald Trump was president with the whole sanctuary city business. Before that, with Barack Obama and now with Joe Biden, red states like Texas pushed to unilaterally enforce U.S. immigration laws within their own states due to the feds’ lack of response.
Even with those examples, there is simply no precedent for Texas’s action here. Furthermore, there’s the question of funding, as Texas would have to acquire private and public property along the border in order to build — a prospect that has both private property implications as well as financial considerations. As the Washington Examiner notes, “Part of the delay with building a wall in Texas under Trump was due to unforeseen difficulties in obtaining privately owned and protected federal land in the Rio Grande Valley and Laredo.”
Indeed, Texas would not be purchasing most of this land from private citizens; rather, the owner of most U.S. border land is actually the federal government. In other words, Texas would be having to purchase land from the federal government, currently operating under the Biden administration. Just how eager would Biden be to sell land to Texas for the express purpose of building the very border wall Biden campaigned against as immoral and cruel?
Finally, if Texas is successful in acquiring the property, how will it fund the cost of building a wall? The most recent border wall construction cost was roughly $20 million per mile. By the time even the first post was set, years will have likely passed, due to legal wrangling and funding concerns. So, while we’re in complete agreement with Governor Abbott’s desires, the likelihood of border wall construction beginning anytime soon seems highly unlikely.
(Footnotes: Remember all those Hispanic-heavy border county elections Republicans just won? Border security is popular. Second, former President Donald Trump is set to visit the border at Abbott’s invitation later this month. What’s the over-under on him beating Kamala Harris there?)
A recently revealed email exchange shows just how malicious Michigan’s Dana Nessel can be.
Marlena Pavlos-Hackney knows statist tyranny when she sees it. As a teenager, she fled Polish communism to start a new life in a foreign land, the United States. That’s in large part why she has more guts, more moxy, and more Liberty-loving spirit than most of her fellow Americans.
It’s also why she was arrested before 6 a.m. on March 19 and taken to jail in ankle shackles and wrist cuffs. She’s the proprietor of a small business — Marlena’s Bistro and Pizzeria — in the West Michigan town of Holland, and she’d had the nerve to defy the draconian lockdown orders of Michigan’s governor, Gretchen Whitmer. Worse yet, she’d decided two days earlier, on March 17, to tell her story of resistance to Fox News’s Tucker Carlson.
Hackney’s defiance was clearly too much for the state’s leftist attorney general, Dana Nessel, who, after learning of her plans to appear on Carlson’s show, wrote in a March 12 email to her staff, “Do we know her whereabouts? We should just have her picked up before she goes on. This is outrageous.”
It is outrageous, because Nessel is a purveyor of precisely the kind of authoritarianism that Hackney warns us about. And were it not for a Freedom of Information Act request sought by The Mackinac Center for Public Policy, we’d never have known about the AG’s thuggery, even after three months. “Should I be prepared to respond to this?” asked Nessel in an email thread that followed. “I hope she gets the full 93 days [in jail] for this.” And in another exchange, she showed just how obsessed she was with this single private citizen in a state of 10 million: “Does [the Michigan State Police] intend to go find her? Or are they planning to wait until next week?”
Much to Nessel’s chagrin, Hackney was released a few days later. But that’s neither here nor there. Kelly Rossman-McKinney, a spokeswoman for Nessel’s office, released the following statement in response to the revelation of her boss’s brutish email exchange:
Ms. Pavlos-Hackney willfully violated the state’s food laws, public health orders and orders of the court — a dangerous act that may have exposed dozens of diners and employees to the virus following the discovery that one of Marlena’s customers tested positive for the virus within two days of eating there. Ms. Pavlos-Hackney’s decision to then go on national television and flaunt her noncompliance compromised the state’s ability to protect public safety during a global pandemic and likely emboldened others to break the law.
Someone should’ve told Nessel that arbitrary lockdowns and onerous masking requirements don’t work and aren’t legitimate — that all they do is crush law-abiding, Constitution-loving citizens and small business owners like Hackney.
Indeed, there’s a small sign that’s posted on the front window of Hackney’s bistro. It reads, “Welcome. We are a Constitutionally Compliant Business. We are not infringing on anyone’s inalienable rights. By law, we do not follow any of the governor’s, mayor’s, health department’s, or other government agency orders or suggestions pertaining to social distancing or mask-wearing.”
Dana Nessel will claim otherwise, but Hackney was thrown in jail for daring to speak out against what she saw as an oppressive and overreaching government. “This was never going to end with censorship on social media,” Carlson noted recently. “If they can control what you write, why can’t they control what you say and think and do? Why can’t they throw you behind bars if you disagree with them or criticize their policies? They can — and as Dana Nessel proved — they will.”
Leave it to Marlena Pavlos-Hackney, a grateful immigrant who fled communist tyranny and came to our shores as a child, to remind us that we have a Constitution and liberties well worth fighting for.

Conservatives defeated as denomination elects Ed Litton Ed Litton called Critical Race Theory a hoax.
While America tosses off the shackles of the new racism of Critical Race Theory and Intersectionality, the Southern Baptist Convention elected Ed Litton who claims CRT is a hoax. Ed Litton was elected by Southern Baptists during the Annual Meeting in Nashville. It is a dark day for the SBC and America. The Woke fanatics are now in undisputed control of what was America’s conservative denomination. This is the second consecutive election of a radical.
Turnout was high with 15,678 registered messengers. This is up sharply from the 9,632 messengers who turned out in Dallas, Texas during the last SBC Presidential election. In that race, J.D. Greear defeated Ken Hemphill and inaugurated the SBC’s Leftward Drift.
That drift is now a sprint. Three years of trustee appointments were made by the Woke J.D. Greear. Now, at least one if not two more years of appointments will be made by the even more radical Ed Litton.
One reason is that he is in violation of the Baptist Faith and Message. He co-preachers sermons with his wife.
As Al Mohler said, one cannot separate the function from the office. According to Dr. Mohler, “I believe that consistency with the Baptist Faith & Message means that someone who is understood to be ‘preaching’ and fulfilling that preaching task on Sunday morning where … someone holding the teaching office would be fulfilling that task … I think it would violate the Baptist Faith & Message in letter and in spirit for a woman to do that.”
Well, Ed Litton and his wife were doing that together. It was not a woman speaking—she admitted on tape that it was a sermon.
But as the rise of Critical Race Theory and Intersectionality showed, the SBC cares little for what the Bible or its confession of faith state. Pragmatism and pleasing secular elites are now the order of the day. This is the legacy of lifelong Democrat Russell Moore. It will linger for many years.
On to Anaheim for Conservative Southern Baptists?
The Conservative Baptist Network appears set to push forward toward a continued resistance against the Woke Southern Baptist Convention.
Rod Martin said on Twitter, “Tough beat. But it’s the work of a single year. We fought the entire denominational machine, plus all their MSM friends. We didn’t win. But this result shows we can. @BaptistNetwork @PastorMikeStone .”
Motivating this drive among conservative Southern Baptists is an attachment to the legacy of the SBC. These men feel it would be wrong to abandon what generations of Southern Baptists built.
The ship might be taking on water, sinking and filled with rotting wood—but it was once a good ship and they believe the effort to salvage it worthwhile.
And, perhaps it is.
Though, one is forced to come to face with the reality of the modern world—denominations no longer matter. Or, at least, no longer matter as they once did.
As Dr. Robert Jeffress pointed out in 2019, most Southern Baptists are indifferent to what the SBC does. People no longer care about denominations. According to Dr. Jeffress, all religion is local.
He told Todd Starnes in 2019, “They don’t pay any attention to it. I think we are living in a post-denominational age, and I think whether it is Southern Baptist or any other mainline denominations, I don’t think people relate any more to large masses of ecclesiastical bureaucracies. I think it is kind of like Tip O’Neil said one time, ‘All politics are local,’ and I think that is true about the church as well. I know our members are concerned about First Baptist Church Dallas and what we are doing to change the world for the better by introducing people to faith in Christ and I don’t know anybody under the age of 70 who cares about what is happening in the denomination.”
If this is indeed the case, conservatives should expect it harder to mobilize turnout at future Southern Baptist Conventions. Trends combined with the next convention sites favor establishment over grassroots conservative candidates.
Also, Critical Race Theory as both a national and internal issue may not have the motivating benefit in two years as it has today. If the perils of racial identity politics could not summon the SBC pastors to do their duty, what can?
I have a few ideas as to what must be done to achieve those goals. However, the question conservatives must ask themselves—is it worth it?
Certainly, the Woke and their Democratic Party enablers desire the SBC for its political value. They know how it can be used to suppress the turnout of conservative evangelical voters. In other words, the Woke takeover of the SBC was and is a net win for the Democrat Party and harms the Republican Party.
This is important. However, is it as important as it was in 1980? 1990? 2000? Or, even, 2020?
It might be time for conservatives to remember the caution of Bismarck, “Woe to the leader whose arguments at the end of a war are not as plausible as they were at the beginning.”
Or, Cardinal Richelieu’s dictum that methods must correspond to goals.
Not to put too fine a point on it, but will the expense of retaking the Southern Baptist Convention from Woke radicals be worth it?
More reflections and lots of commentary to come on the Battle of Nashville.
If 2020 was an eye-opening year for millions of Americans, 2021 is the year they are taking action. Over the past several months, leaders have emerged across the country and across the political spectrum to fight against divisive, racially charged rhetoric in American classrooms.
Toward the summit: The Biden administration pushed for a summit with Russia. Moscow agreed. What the Biden people hope to achieve remains unclear. We are told the White House wants to ‘restore predictability and stability.’ What could possibly go wrong?
Heritage’s Mike Howell joined Fox Business, Tuesday, June 15, to talk about the border crisis, Pres. Trump’s announced trip to the border, and why the Biden administration is actively making the border crisis worse.
The latest television and internet ratings reveal Nickelodeon’s efforts to promote the LGBTQ agenda to children may be backfiring as the cable network has reportedly lost two-thirds of its audience in the last four years.
Why? Some entertainment writers are saying a lot of parents don’t think it’s so great.
The independent entertainment blog Pirates and Princesses reported Nickelodeon YouTube videos were “downvoted to such a degree that they’ve now hidden the ratio.”
The blog says the Nickelodeon cable network has seen a major decline in viewers since it began overtly pushing the LGBTQ agenda to its young viewers:
“Since July of 2017, Nickelodeon’s viewership has dropped from 1.3 million average viewers per week to a June of 2021 average of only 372,000. In only four years, Nickelodeon has dropped more than two-thirds of its audience. That is catastrophically bad for the cable channel, but with cable on the way out, maybe it’s not so bad? The catch here is that it is, in fact, that bad and perhaps worse, simply because Nickelodeon seems to be the primary driving force behind new subscribers to Paramount+.
It’s thus easy to see why Viacom is leaning so heavily into older Nickelodeon content. Perhaps hoping to capitalize on what once worked versus what is rapidly losing audience, the company has resurrected Rugrats and iCarly (among other shows) to try to drive nostalgic fans to the service.
But there are signs that Viacom has not learned any lessons and is retrofitting these old shows with the same principles that have resulted in Nickelodeon’s huge loss in ratings. Even with a show about infants, much of the headlines have been about a retconned, now-lesbian character; whatever your thoughts on that issue, it’s hard to see how a children’s show about infants is best served in advertising when the news is all about sexuality.”
Megan Basham, writing for The Daily Wire noted: “This is particularly bad news for parent company ViacomCBS, which has been attempting to bulk up its streaming service, Paramount+, by adding several hundred hours of Nickelodeon programming to the platform’s library.”
Ratings are the life-blood in the television business. The more eyes watching a network’s show the more the network can sell commercial time at a higher rate, and make more profit. If the ratings go down, revenue goes down. And it works the same on YouTube and other streaming platforms. The fewer views a video receives, the less money it will make for the producer.
While many parents aren’t happy with the LGBTQ agenda at Nickelodeon, there is another factor in the plunge in viewers. Variety reports viewership for kids networks was down overall for 2020 as people shift away from cable, stating, “The steady decline of all kids networks went on overdrive this year, with Disney Channel (-33%), Nickelodeon (-32%), Cartoon Network (-29%), Nick Jr. (-17%), Disney Junior (-27%), Nicktoons (-42%), TeenNick (-35%) all down.”
Still, as CBN News has previously reported, it does coincide with Nickelodeon increasing its efforts in recent years to indoctrinate young children with LGBTQ identities and issues, while Disney and Cartoon Network have done the same.
During last summer’s June LGBTQ Pride Month, Nickelodeon and the Disney Channel aired on-air promos for the first time supporting the LGBTQ agenda to their audiences of children.
Comments about the networks’ on-air promotion on social media were mixed, ranging from outright approval to others saying “no more Nickelodeon” in their house, and that such ads about sexual orientation did not belong on a children’s network.
Also last summer, Nickelodeon tweeted a picture of Spongebob Squarepants celebrating Pride Month, leaving many wondering if the beloved character is supposed to be part of the LGBTQ community.
Last December, the children’s TV network collaborated with transgender actor Michael D. Cohen to help young transgender or “nonbinary” people become actors with a “Trans Youth Acting Challenge.”
Most recently, Nickelodeon announced it had cast its first openly transgender teenage actor to be featured in a live-action kids’ series.
Sasha Cohen, 13, who was born female but now identifies as male, will appear in the June 19 episode of “Danger Force,” according to Variety. Michael D. Cohen — no relation — co-wrote and directed this episode.
The announcement about “Danger Force” comes just weeks after Disney announced it is revamping its 20-year-old animated series “The Proud Family.”
As Faithwire previously reported, the rebooted show — “The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder” — will center on two multiethnic, gay dads and their adopted teenager daughter, who is a racial activist.
This past February, the network promoted LGBTQ pride to preschoolers with its educational show “Blue’s Clues & You.” The animated adventure series, which is a reboot of the popular “Blue’s Clues” show, featured a shocking twist during an A-B-C song that was uploaded to YouTube.
As each letter of the alphabet is highlighted throughout the song, the beloved dog Blue bounces from page to page of a book teaching children what each one stands for.
“P is full of Pride” Blue sings, while multiple flags representing the LGBTQ community are displayed including the transgender, pansexual, intersex, asexual, gender-fluid community, and more.
At the end of the song, Blue says “the alphabet helps me be me.”
CBN News has reached out to Nickelodeon, ViacomCBS, and Nielsen for comment regarding this story. We will publish their responses as soon as we hear back.
Jude goes into great depths regarding apostates and ungodly lusts, for a book that is only twenty-five verses in length. It’s amazing to read because Jude is actually describing our present age. The fallout from these apostates is seen in every type of institution today, especially churches.
An outline of Jude breaks down like this (from the NKJV):
Greetings to those called (vv 1-2)
Contend for the Faith (vv 3-4)
Old and New Apostates (vv 5-11)
Apostates Depraved and Doomed (vv 12-15)
Apostates Predicted (vv 16-19)
Maintain Your Life with God (vv 20-23)
Glory to God (vv 24-25)
For certain men have crept in unnoticed, who long ago were marked out for this condemnation, ungodly men, who turn the grace of our God into lewdness and deny the only Lord God and our Lord Jesus Christ. (Jude 4)
Apostates have crept into many conservatively biblical seminaries, Christian colleges and universities. They’ve ultimately taken over these same institutions/churches decades ago. Once there, they then slowly began inserting heresies into their teaching/preaching. Often these apostates have “loving” or “engaging” personalities.
This coincides with Antonio Gramsci’s writings in which he posited that it would take roughly 100 years to take over the institutions. The institutions he referenced were all major societal institutions: public schools, colleges, seminaries, government offices and churches.
Has society not been nearly completely taken over as we watch politicians, CEOs, AntiFa, BLM and other anarchists/Marxists push society to the brink of war? We are at a serious tipping point in society and I can only wonder what might push it over the edge? If the Rapture were to happen today, that would create the vacuum needed leading to the full societal reset globally ending in the final world government, wouldn’t it? We “malcontents” (authentic Christians), would be gone but are currently in the way.
But if the Rapture doesn’t happen today or soon, what event or series of events might be used to push global society over the edge? Secular companies are having “racial reconciliation” zoom meetings” or celebrating Pride month and “inviting” all employees to participate in zoom “gatherings” where DJ music, happy hour and discussion occurs. People are encouraged to introduce themselves using their preferred “pronouns.” The absurdity is causing major divisions in society, but that’s exactly how Marxism works.
It’s also happening in churches. It might be best for authentic Christians to try to insist their church returns to biblical standards if its off the mark, but failing that, leaving to find either another truly biblically-literate and obedient church or creating a home-based gathering for fellowship between authentic Christians. The spirit of Babylon is overtaking churches today as it is overtaking global society. Leaving those heretical churches may be the best and only option.
An article from the folks at Way of Life Literature titled, Psychology and End-Times Mysticism, by David Cloud is interesting. The article is from Cloud’s book titled, The God of End-Time Mysticism and can be downloaded free of charge at this link as a PDF.
What I found fascinating are all the big names who either started modern day psychology (atheists, agnostics, and/or mystics), or actual Christian leaders who have carried it forward continuing to endorse it in their teachings and sermons. People like Carl Jung, Abraham Maslow, and Carl Rogers, are known names within psychology because of their involvement in creating it or bringing it to the mainstream.
Cloud lists people like “…W.A. Criswell, R.C. Sproul, Christianity Today, National Association of Evangelicals, World Vision, Promise Keepers, James Dobson, Tony Campolo, Bill Bright, Paul Yonggi Cho, Jack Hayford, Ralph Reed, Bill Hybels, Paul Crouch, John Wimber, Ravi Zacharias, Lee Strobel, Chuck Colson, and Rick Warren.” These are just some of the well known “evangelicals” who have not only bought into the mysticism of modern psychology, but endorse it in their books and sermons. Some of the names just listed are not really surprising, though others may be a bit surprising.
But what exactly is wrong with psychology if anything? Is it really that bad or can it be used for good? Cloud outlines the history and background of those who invented modern psychology that is accepted as settledscience today and without exception, all come from either a completely non-Christian background, steeped in New Age mysticism in some form or from a Christian background only to fully reject it later in life, embracing instead the ideology of self-esteem,which is at the heart of psychology self-help methods.
Self-esteem is really just another expression for self-love. We know what Paul says about that, don’t we?
But understand this: In the last days terrible times will come. For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, without love of good… (2 Timothy 3:1-3 Berean Study Bible; emphasis added)
Cloud points out that Psychology teaches that people need to learn to love themselves more than they already do. Psychologists believe and teach that people who fail to love themselves (or they’d say, have the proper amount of self-esteem), are causing great harm to themselves and others because of their emotional bondage to a flawed ideology. That flawed ideology is the biblical concept of human depravity, sin and rebellion against God. This is actually the root of Satan’s first temptation, teaching Eve that she needed to love herself more, to take care of her own felt needs by rebelling against God because God was limiting her and Adam.
Psychologists argue that people who focus on their alleged sin and their unworthiness, etc., are doing the exact opposite of what God really wants for us (they say). They refer to the words of Jesus when He said to love your neighbor as yourself (Mark 12:31), and take that to mean that Jesus was actually teaching people to learn to love one’s self more and more. Of course, Jesus was not saying this, but was saying essentially, “as you already love yourself and take care of your body and your own needs, this is the way to love other people” (my paraphrase). Jesus was not directing us to love ourselves. His premise was that we already do that.
Jude defines three types of apostates in his short letter (who already deeply loved themselves), in verse 11:
The way of Cain
The way of Balaam
The way of Korah
As we know, Cain, the first type of apostate, murdered Abel in cold blood, because Cain’s sacrifice was not acceptable to God, while Abel’s was acceptable. In other words, this type of apostate literally hates their brethren. They only join in with them to overcome them, to turn them away from the truth, not to fellowship with them. Authentic Christians who remain true to the LORD are hated by these impostors as bigoted and blind. If led away, the result is spiritual death to the Christian who succumbs to this type of impostor.
The second type of apostate is after the error of Balaam. It is when a person seeks their own financial gain using religion to do so. This is exactly what Balaam sought to do, though God circumvented Balaam’s plan to curse the nation of Israel for the king, who hired him for that purpose. God’s vengeance was later exacted on Balaam, who was slain (Numbers 22-24). Individuals who follow in Balaam’s error are fully corrupt and use their position in Christendom solely as a vehicle for their own financial gain and fame, just like the apostate I refer to below. Their goal is enriching themselves.
The third type of apostate is patterned after Korah (Numbers 16). You’ll recall this man led a rebellion against Moses and his God-appointed authority. God sent judgment in the form of the earth swallowing Korah and those who followed him. As people opposed Jesus and His apostles, Korah also opposed God’s man Moses whom He specifically chose to gather the nation of Israel and lead them out of bondage from Egypt to the Promised Land. Korah’s high opinion of himself and jealousy got the better of him.
These three types of apostates have infiltrated churches and are doing tremendous harm to Christians because they detest God and His Word though the opposite appears to be true. It is clear that Christendom has been overrun by apostates who serve themselves because of their self-love. They don’t have a problem with self-esteem at all. They love themselves so much, working to capture the hearts and minds of people whom they can turn from the truth of God’s Word due to a lack of discernment with too many Christians.
The list of apostates and impostors seems endless today. Many websites attempt to keep track of apostates, but as you can imagine, it’s difficult. Here’s more information on Priscilla Shirer (daughter of Tony Evans), and here’s more information on Michael Brown and how Christians can and should take note of those who teach another Gospel. They should be marked and avoided (Romans 16:17). These people live to cause division within Christendom and do so for their own selfish gain and notoriety. Watchman’s Bagpipes has much more on many wolves who are nothing but apostates and impostors.
Here’s another one that I first wrote about back in 2015: Pastor James Staley, who interestingly enough, was arrested for fraud. He plead guilty and was ultimately sentenced to 7 years in prison and was released after 55 months. As I pointed out previously, Staley is a Hebrew Roots heretic, a modern day Judaizer, who, while preaching sermons that centered around a stated “passion for truth,” was busy ripping off elderly people to the tune of 3.3 million and pocketing nearly $600,000 for himself. Originally, Staley originally faced up to 30 years in prison for his illegal activities.
After being released, he went right back to his Internet church he founded and leads and continued essentially where he had left off. The Hebrew Roots Movement is tied into the modern signs and wonders NAR group of people that stemmed from aspects of the Charismatic Movement. It is also interesting how Staley now tries to liken himself a modern day Joseph. The problem? Joseph was guilty of NOTHING. Staley? Guilty of FRAUD. I wonder if he has paid people back as he promised he would?
The tragic thing the world is experiencing today is mirroring what Christianity faced in the first century shortly after the birth of the church in Acts 2. In fact, much of the New Testament was written in order to correct doctrinal error in many individual churches at that time.
The ungodly lusts that Jude refers to in these apostates (v 18), the sexual deviancy practiced (v 7), calling them grumblers and complainers (v 16), and who walk according to their own lusts, flattering everyone they can in order to elevate themselves (v 16), should cause us to separate from them. These apostates live to cause division (v 19). There is nothing good in them because they have rejected God and His truth, favoring the lies of Satan. How can Christians fellowship with people like that?
If we learned to properly fear OFFENDING the LORD, we will be protected from the lies and deceit of the enemy.
By mercy and truth iniquity is purged: and by the fear of the LORD men depart from evil (Proverbs 16:6 KJV)
