Purpose Driven, Seeker Sensitive, Church Growth, Market Driven

Rick Warren is the founder and senior pastor of Saddleback Church, an evangelical megachurch located in Lake Forest, California, currently the eighth-largest church in the United States. His book, The Purpose Driven Church, spawned a series of conferences on Christian ministry and evangelism. He is perhaps best known for the subsequent devotional, The Purpose Driven Life, which has sold over 30 million copies.

This must-watch video represents extensive research on the teachings, activities and partnerships of Rick Warren:

Concerns:

  • Shortly before his retirement, Saddleback Church went against the clear teaching of Scripture and ordained three women pastors. (2021)
  • Joined a highly ecumenical event that did not differentiate between Christianity, Roman Catholicism, or any other sect of Christendom to bestow an award to a Coptic woman who is known as  “Coptic Mother Theresa.” (2019)
  • Protoge of Peter Drucker, to create consumer-driven mega-church model
  • Cited as the father of the Emergent Church Movement.
  • A strong advocate of contemplative prayer, and encourages pastors to use Centering and Breath Prayers.
  • Signed on to “A Common Word Between Us” that seeks common ground between Muslims and Christians.
  • Gave the invocation at the presidential inauguration in January 2009, praying to Isa of the Qur’an along with Jesus.
  • New Age proponent Leonard Sweet, who calls himself an emergent church leader, trained many of Warren’s church leaders and pastors at the 2008 Saddleback Small Groups Conference.
  • Uses The Message paraphrase of the Bible for much of his writings.
  • Promoted on the “speakers corner” of the Islamic Society of North America, an arm of the Muslim Brotherhood and a financier of the Hamas terror organization.
  • Supports the work of Tony Blair and his global spiritualization movement.
  • Supports the “Catholics Come Home” campaign.
  • In spite of photo evidence, denied his involvement in King’s Way, a bridge-building movement with Muslims at Saddleback.
  • Creator of the controversial P.E.A.C.E. Plan
  • As part of the P.E.A.C.E. plan, his top missions pastor was photographed teaching that Muslims don’t have to convert to Christianity to be saved.
  • Created the The Daniel Plan: God’s Prescription for Your Health to get the folks at Saddleback Church healthy.  To create his alleged biblical plan, he elicited the aid of unbelievers — Dr. Mehmet Oz., a Sufi Muslim, Dr. Mark Hyman, a secular Jew and New Ager, and Dr. Daniel Amen, a professing Christian who dabbles in Eastern mysticism.
  • Promoter of the problematic The BibleSon of Godand A.D. miniseries, and packaged church sermons and video Bible studies.
  • Gathered with the Pope at the Vatican, along with Russell Moore, Muslims and Mormons to promote unity around family issues.

Complete Deliverance — VCY America

But I will deliver thee in that day, saith the Lord; and thou shalt not be given into the hand of the men of whom thou art afraid. (Jeremiah 39:17)

When the Lord’s faithful ones are suffering for Him, they shall have sweet messages of love from Himself, and sometimes they shall have glad tidings for those who sympathize with them and help them. Ebed-melech was only a despised Ethiopian, but he was kind to Jeremiah, and so the Lord sent him this special promise by the mouth of His prophet. Let us be ever mindful of God’s persecuted servants, and He will reward us.

Ebed-melech was to be delivered from the men whose vengeance he feared. He was a humble… man, but Jehovah would take care of him. Thousands were slain by the Chaldeans, but [he] could not be hurt. We, too, may be fearful of some great ones who are bitter against us; but if we have been faithful to the Lord’s cause in the hour of persecution, He will be faithful to us. After all, what can a man do without the Lord’s permission? He puts a bit into the mouth of rage and a bridle upon the head of power. Let us fear the Lord, and we shall have no one else to fear. No cup of cold water given to a despised prophet of God shall be without its reward; and if we stand up for Jesus, Jesus will stand up for us.

June 22 Evening Quotes of The Day

Ministers Are to Reprove Without Naming
Acts 24:22–27

The minister is to reprove the sins of all, but to name none. Paul, being to preach before a lascivious and unrighteous prince, touched him to the quick, but did not name him in his sermon. Felix’s conscience saved Paul that labor; he trembled, though Paul did not say he meant him.

Not Contending to Overthrow
Matthew 18:15; 2 Timothy 2:25

Our endeavour is not so much to overthrow those with whom we contend, as to yield them just and reasonable causes of those things which, for want of due consideration heretofore, they misconceived.

June 22 – The manner of the Christian wife’s submission — Reformed Perspective

Wives, submit to your husbands, as to the Lord. – Ephesians 5:22

Scripture reading: 1 Peter 3:1-6

A wife’s submission to her husband is not conditional upon whether her husband is a nice guy, or that he loves her sacrificially and as lovingly as Christ loves the church. No, her submission is first and foremost “as to the Lord.”  She submits in all things lawful because she wants to be obedient to God’s Word in her role as a wife. In her submission to the Lord, she honors the Lord in her marriage and for His glory.

But then, how is submission possible under adverse conditions, with a difficult or unloving husband?  HOW? – Well, the key to her submission is “AS TO THE LORD!”  It is in humble submission “AS TO THE LORD” that she, as much as depends on her, maintains peace within the home. A godly woman will accomplish much more by her loving submission and service to her husband than by her constant complaining, nagging or fighting. A godly wife who submits to her husband does so first and foremost in submission to the Lord. In so doing, she and her household are blessed and God is glorified!

Suggestions for prayer

That the manner of a wife’s submission may always be as to the Lord; and that in so doing she brings honor and glory to God.

Rev. Henry Van Olst felt called to the ministry at the age of 32 after 12 years of working in the accounting field. He served the Parkland Reformed Church (URC) of Ponoka, Alberta from 1993 to 2005; served in several other churches, and upon retirement in 2020 moved back to Ponoka, Alberta along with his wife Mary, to be closer to their four married children and fifteen grandchildren. Rev. Van Olst remains active in preaching and teaching as the church is currently vacant. This daily devotional is also available in a print edition you can buy at Nearer to God Devotional.

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is img_1649.jpg

86:7 God will answer (Hb ‘anan) the prayer of the humble (“poor,” Hb ‘ani); see v. 1 (see note at 34:6).[1]

86:7 because you answer me The psalmist portrays his relationship with God as one of ongoing help. When the psalmist calls, God answers by helping him.[2]

7. “In the day of my trouble I will call upon thee: for thou wilt answer me.” A pious resolve backed by a judicious reason. It is useless to cry to those who cannot or will not hear; once convince men that prayer has no effect upon God, and they will have no more of it. In these busy days, and especially in troublous times, men cannot afford to waste time in entreaties which must be unavailing. Our experience confirms us in the belief that Jehovah the living God really does aid those who call upon him, and therefore we pray and mean to pray, not because we are so fascinated by prayer that for its own sake we would continue in it if it proved to be mere folly and superstition, as vain philosophers assert; but because we really, indeed, and of a truth, find it to be a practical and effectual means of obtaining help from God in the hour of need. There can be no reason for praying if there be no expectation of the Lord’s answering. Who would make a conscience of pleading with the winds, or find a solace in supplicating the waves? The mercy seat is a mockery if there be no hearing nor answering. David, as the following verses show, believed the Lord to be a living and potent God, and indeed to be “God alone,” and it was on that account that he resolved in every hour of trouble to call upon him.[3]

Ver. 7.—In the day of my trouble I will call upon thee (comp. vers. 1 and 14). The nature of the trouble is not distinctly stated; but it appears to have been caused by domestic rather than foreign enemies. For thou wilt answer me (comp. ver. 5).[4]

Jesus, the Champion — Daily Devotionals by Thoughts about God

A wonder of a Counselor, a divine Hero, a Father for all time, a peaceful Prince! Great is His authority, Endless is His peace. Isaiah 9:6-7 (Moffatt Translation)

Jesus is the Champion of all champions…no one comes close! All His titles are eternal…He has always held them, and no one in heaven or on earth has ever taken them away…no one ever will. His throne, His greatness, His glory, His dominion, His authority, and His kingdom are settled forever. Leave all with Him, place all before Him, trust all to Him.

A wonder of a Counselor: place yourself at His feet, hear His words, follow His wisdom, go with His plan, yield to His strategy. Do not set any limits upon what He can say to you.

A divine Hero: What a King! Warrior. Victor. Conqueror. Captain. Lord. Master. Without flaw or weakness. Clothed with glory. Crowned with majesty. Do not set any limits upon what He can do for you.

A Father for all time: He is the best. Kindest. Truest. He is full of compassion. Grace. Mercy. Loving kindness. Draw close to Him. Learn of Him. Walk with Him. He is always the same. Forever faithful. Do not set any limits upon what He can be to you.

A peaceful Prince: He is Peace. Perfect peace. He is the peace giver and He is the One who keeps you in perfect peace. He can use you as His peace maker in a restless and troubled world. Do not set any limits upon what He can do through you.

Jesus, the Champion — Daily Devotionals by Thoughts about God

Who is Your Hero? — Daily Devotionals by Thoughts about God

Say to Daughter Zion, ‘See, your king comes to you, gentle and riding on a donkey, and on a colt, the foal of a donkey.’”  Matthew 21:5

I like to think of a hero as being triumphant and in control. I want to feel that my life is in control instead of squirming about areas of my life I want to see differently. Some areas I cannot change, since they are out of my control, i.e., a loved one’s health, a misbehaving grandchild, a couple of quarrelling relatives.

What does a hero look like? When Jesus entered Jerusalem as king, he wasn’t on a huge horse wearing armor. Matthew tells of Jesus riding on a donkey into Jerusalem, which symbolized that he is the King of the Jews. Instead of conquering Rome and building a new kingdom, he died on a cross. Yet, Jesus did conquer. He conquered death and sin when he rose again. He is the King of kings, the real hero.

Imagine Jesus as the hero of your life. Are there areas in the areas of appetite, attitude or agenda in which Jesus could be king?

Appetites such as entertainment, social media, sexual desires, hobbies, food, alcohol and shopping. Attitudes such as pride, apathy, complaining, greed, bitterness and unforgiveness. Agenda such as time, money, career plans, theology, belief system, future plans, politics, and family planning?

What would be the benefit of following Jesus’ leadership in those areas? Are you willing to let Jesus be king over them? Is there something holding you back? What do you think it is?.

Lord, be the King of my life. I need a daily hero that will rescue me from myself, conquer the areas of my life that could benefit me as a result and please you.

Ask God to show you if there are any areas of your life that remain outside of his control. If so, invite him to help you see you as the hero freeing yourself from anything that hinders your walk with him.

No Better Rule of Reading the Scripture
Deuteronomy 17:19

I know not a better rule of reading the Scripture, than to read it through from beginning to end; and, when we have finished it once, to begin it again. We shall meet with many passages which we can make little improvement of, but not so many in the second reading as in the first, and fewer in the third than in the second: provided we pray to him who has the keys to open our understandings, and to anoint our eyes with his spiritual ointment.

The Power of Letters
2 Kings 5:7; 2 Corinthians 10:10

Letters are signs of things, symbols of words, whose power is so great that without a voice they speak to us the words of the absent; for they introduce words by the eye, not by the ear.

Christian Organizations Everywhere Should Brace Themselves For Weaponized IRS
Biden keeps saying “America is back.” But what he really means is Barack Obama is back. From the military and abortion to transgenderism and education, everything feels like a regurgitation of the 44th president’s worst policies. The shades of Obama run deep, right down to the IRS — the former president’s favorite weapon for crushing the opposition. Under Biden, the tax agency’s campaign of intimidation is back, and Christian organizations everywhere should brace themselves. It was like a recycled headline from Lois Lerner’s heyday: “IRS Denies Tax Exempt Status to Christian Group.” Lerner, who used to head up the IRS’s exemption division, turned conservative targeting into an Olympic sport in 2013. She must have passed along some of those tips to Biden, whose agency decided a Texas group didn’t qualify for a charitable status because its members read the Bible.

‘Israel’s patience is running thin,’ PM warns Hamas
Prime Minister Naftali Bennett on Sunday warned Hamas that Israel will not abide terrorist attacks of any kind. Speaking at the state memorial service honoring the 67 IDF soldiers and six civilians who were killed during Operation Protective Edge, a 50-day war between Israel and the terrorist group controlling the Gaza Strip that took place in 2014, Bennett said, “Gaza Strip will have to get used to a different Israeli approach – proactive, aggressive if necessary, innovative. We will not tolerate violence; we will not tolerate sporadic [fire]. Our enemies should know the rules, and they should know that our patience is running thin.

Not Satire: China Wants Nobel Prize for Wuhan Lab

Beijing deflects from growing consensus that the Wuhan lab likely unleashed a deadly global pandemic.

Thomas Gallatin

No, this is not a headline from our favorite satire site, The Babylon Bee: The Chinese Communist government brazenly claims that the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV) — the same lab most likely responsible for unleashing the global coronavirus pandemic — deserves to be awarded the Nobel Prize for Medicine.

According to China’s state-run media:

The award is mainly given to individuals or research groups who have made or demonstrated significant achievements in the past five years. … China’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson stressed at Thursday’s press conference that scientists working at the WIV should be awarded the Nobel Prize in medicine, rather than being blamed for being the first to discover the gene sequence of the novel coronavirus.

Why not the Nobel Peace Prize for killing at least 3.8 million people by lying about the virus in the early days when it could have been contained?

In its appeal, Beijing highlights the work of Shi Zhengli, famously (or infamously) nicknamed the “Bat Woman” due to her study of bat coronaviruses, as well as the director of the WIV biosafety lab, Yuan Zhiming. Shi recently claimed that “bat viruses in China could be studied in BSL-2 labs because there was no evidence that they directly infected humans.” For context, BSL-2 labs work with what are considered moderately dangerous viruses like hepatitis or HIV, whereas BSL-4 labs are the highest level of control and containment for those viruses considered most dangerous and contagious, such as ebola.

Political analyst Jim Geraghty observes:

Shi’s argument wants it both ways. Part of the argument in support of the zoonotic theory of SARS-CoV-2’s origins is that new viruses jump from animals to people all the time, and thus that is what most likely happened in this case. … [At the same time], it’s extremely unusual for bat viruses to infect human beings — which makes SARS-CoV-2 extremely different from most viruses found in horseshoe bats, suggesting something about the virus may have changed or been altered to make it more contagious among human beings. Or another option is that it isn’t so rare for bat viruses to infect human beings, which would suggest that these viruses shouldn’t be studied in BSL-2 laboratories. Pick one.

In other words, Shi’s assessment of the nature and danger of coronaviruses is a transparent attempt to deflect away from the growing international consensus for the origin of COVID being a leak from the Wuhan lab, and thus the accompanying blame put on the ChiCom regime.

Speaking of the lab leak theory, part of the explanation for the sudden about-face taken by both the Biden administration and mainstream media over COVID’s origins — going from calling it a fringe conspiracy theory to now entertaining it as the most plausible source — may have to do with a rumored defection of a top Chinese official. It’s being reported that China’s number two official in charge of the Ministry of State Security (MSS), Dong Jingwei, weeks ago defected to the U.S. and brought with him valuable information exposing Beijing’s knowledge of COVID’s origins.

Regardless, the deadly truth is that the ChiComs lied big and are now aiming to shore up the lie by boldly demanding a prize for it.

Senator Whitehouse’s White Privilege

The Rhode Island Dem’s membership in an all-white beach club is the embodiment of his party’s hypocrisy.

Douglas Andrews

With the possible exception of Arkansas’s John Boozman, the best name in the U.S. Senate belongs to Sheldon Whitehouse. There simply isn’t another member of the upper chamber whose name rolls off the tongue as smoothly and sweetly, or that conjures up such images of competence, sobriety, and dignity. Put simply, if Mitt Romney looks like a president, “Sheldon Whitehouse” sounds like a president.

Unfortunately for the Rhode Island Democrat, that’s as far as the comparison goes. When it comes to the important work of the Senate, Whitehouse is all hat and no cattle, and his colleagues know it. As we’ve documented before, he’s a hard-left hater of the First and Second Amendments, he routinely ascribes ill will to his Republican opposition, and he’s inclined to invoke the RICO statute on those who wonder whether global warming climate change is every bit the existential threat that he thinks it is. His infamous exchange with then-Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh showed the rest of the world just how unserious the senator with the serious-sounding name is.

Worse yet, but not at all surprising, Whitehouse is a hypocrite with a clear-cut preference for racial homogeneity. “As the nation prepared to celebrate Juneteenth and the end of slavery in America,” writes Andrew Stiles in the Washington Free Beacon, “at least one Democrat was pushing back against his party’s woke obsession with racial equity.”

That one anti-equity Democrat would be Whitehouse, whose been dragging his feet for years about his membership in an all-white beach club in the elite oceanside town of Newport. Last week, a local reporter finally caught up with him to inquire about his progress toward integrating Bailey’s Beach Club — a promise he’d made back in 2017 after having pledged to cancel his club membership 11 years before that. It didn’t go well.

“I think the people who are running the place are still working on that,” said the senator, “and I’m sorry it hasn’t happened yet.” But not to worry, he says, such clubs have “a long tradition in Rhode Island.”

Suffice it to say, Whitehouse’s word appears to be nearabout worthless, and he appears to be about as influential with his fellow lily-white beach-clubbers as he is with his senatorial colleagues. As Stiles put it, “Opponents of white supremacy will have to pry his Bailey’s membership from his cold dead hands.”

All this is of a piece, though, with the Democrat Party’s free pass on issues of race. Were Whitehouse a Republican, his Senate colleagues would be holding hearings by now. As commentator Lisa Boothe quipped, “Whitehouse is a member of a whites-only beach club, the Gov of Virginia either wore black face or a Ku Klux Klan robe, and Joe Biden said he didn’t want his kids to grow up in a racial jungle. But Democrats want to lecture about racism in America.”

That pretty much sums things up.

Nepotism in Biden’s White House

It turns out his “American Families Plan” is to hire his staff’s families.

Nate Jackson

The entire reason Hunter Biden’s profitable corruption was (or should have been) big news isn’t because it was Hunter Biden, but because Joe Biden was behind it. Scranton Joe was the “big guy” running the family show from the Senate and then from his position as Barack Obama’s vice president. Joe’s family found his “public service” to be quite lucrative. It shouldn’t be any surprise that nepotism continues in Biden’s own administration.

If you prefer, don’t take our word for it. Take the word of The Washington Post, which reports that despite Biden’s promises not to employ his family members, his “vow did not extend to his senior staff and their relatives” because “at least five children of his top aides have secured coveted jobs in the new administration.”

And take the word of Obama’s director of the United States Office of Government Ethics, Walter Shaub. Reacting to the Post’s story, Shaub had some strong words:

I’m sorry, I know some folks don’t like hearing any criticism of him. But this royally sucks. I’m disgusted. A lot of us worked hard to tee him up to restore ethics to government and believed the promises. This is a real “f-ck you” to us — and government ethics.

EVEN THE F-ING HEAD OF PRESIDENTIAL PERSONNEL, WHO IS SUPPOSED TO BE KEEPING THEM HONEST, HAS A CHILD WHO’S A RECENT COLLEGE GRAD WORKING IN THE ADMINISTRATION. AND THE SPOUSE OF THE WHITE HOUSE CHIEF OF STAFF, FOR CRYING OUT LOUD. This is ridiculous. What a f-cking failure.

At least it’s not as bad as Donald Trump’s White House, Shaub and the Post couldn’t help but saying.

Now, is this the end of the Republic? Hardly. We’ve survived far greater scandals than the director of presidential personnel having a daughter hired by the administration.

Yet it’s just one more sign of Biden’s hypocrisy. “No one in our family and extended family is going to be involved in any government undertaking or foreign policy,” Biden declared in January. “And nobody has an office in this place.”

Not from his family, at least, and not “in this place.” But his son made plenty of Biden bucks peddling influence in China and Ukraine.

Meanwhile, his press secretary, Jen Psaki, and her deputy, Andrew Bates, each took pains to defend Biden with the same refrain. “We have the highest ethical standards of any administration in history,” insisted Psaki. Bates added, “The president has instituted the highest ethical standards of anyone to ever hold this office.”

Sure thing.

On a final note, Hunter Biden is selling “art” for $500,000 a pop. Shaub doesn’t like that either, saying, “The notion of a president’s son capitalizing on that relationship by selling art at obviously inflated prices and keeping the public in the dark about who’s funneling money to him has a shameful and grifty feel to it.”

But hey, if a president’s former crack addict son can’t blow paint through a straw and cash in, what is the American Dream anyway?

No Wonder Grassroots Patriots Fear Election Theft

Leftists and Never-Trumpers are busy incessantly casting conservatives as morally evil.

Harold Hutchison

The Left has often claimed that the rhetoric of conservatives causes violence. For instance, take the false accusations over the years that Sarah Palin incited the Tucson shooting that killed six and left a dozen wounded, including Representative Gabby Giffords, critically so. But when it comes to incidents like the attempted assassination of Steve Scalise (and others) by a Bernie Sanders-supporting Rachel Maddow superfan, the Left and the establishment don’t say much, even when there seems to be a much stronger link between the rhetoric and the violence.

That’s why some recent comments on social media deserve notice. When Joe Biden took cheap shots at Donald Trump and the Republican Party at the G7, Jonah Goldberg of The Dispatch, among numerous others, rebuked him. But Matthew Dowd, a former ABC bigwig whose Twitter profile claims “Democrats are only vehicle today to save the Republic,” responded by claiming the GOP is “an antidemocratic entity,” going on to say that “our politics will only be detoxified if the gop [sic] as it currently constituted is gone.” Ron Fournier, formerly an AP “journalist,” added a comment implying that “terrorist-backing, anti-democratic forces” are fair game.

Those social media exchanges only reinforce what we noted when we called out David French, also of The Dispatch, for falsely claiming conservatives were lying when we said the Left hates grassroots Patriots and seeks to silence them. Our commentary in February, when left-wing “national security experts” openly compared the Republican Party to a terrorist cell that would be raided or bombed, also touched on the dangerous rhetoric coming from the Left. While we have said those who broke the law on January 6 should be punished, we also have said that the reckoning needs to extend across the board.

But part of that reckoning includes addressing the past. Grassroots Patriots who have seen themselves smeared as racists (or worse) over the years have every right to question what that rhetoric — and the Republican/conservative establishment’s failure to stand up to it — could lead people to do.

The smears continue, with an accident being falsely portrayed as a terrorist attack, and then Florida Governor Ron DeSantis facing phony claims he enabled it.

Dennis Prager has not been wrong to point out that the constant portrayal of Trump as an illegitimately elected Russian puppet who thought white supremacists were “very fine people” and was an existential threat to democracy could have not just had effects on the 2020 election, including the need to “fortify” it. That rhetoric also probably provoked violence against conservatives as well. Just ask the attendees of this year’s Western Conservative Summit and the journalists who covered it.

When a former media bigwig says the only way to detoxify politics is to wipe out the GOP, and another once-prominent reporter paints Biden’s political opponents as “terrorist-backing, anti-democratic forces,” it’s fair to question whether the Biden administration is scheming to weaponize the Justice Department against political opponents, particularly given the track record of abuses and lies grassroots Patriots have witnessed.

The Left and “Never Trump” types can try to gaslight about “norms and standards” all they want, and they can try to paint grassroots Patriots as paranoid. But the fact is, what comes out of their own mouths and keyboards often prove grassroots Patriots are right to fear what the Left’s hateful rhetoric can lead to — that things won’t stop with a “fortified” election.

Dems Lecture Catholic Bishops After Abortion Rebuke

The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops opposes communion for lawmakers who promote abortion.

Thomas Gallatin

The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops voted 168-55 on Friday in favor of drafting “a formal statement on the meaning of the Eucharist in the life of the Church,” which could be used by church bishops to deny communion to politicians who support abortion. Last month, we noted that the bishops planned to consider such a formal statement, and they voted overwhelmingly to do so despite the Vatican advising against such action.

The vote was seen as a clear rebuke of leading Catholic Democrats like Joe Biden and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who dubiously claim to uphold the teachings of the church while fiercely working to undermine them, particularly in promoting abortion — even to the extent of advocating taxpayer funding of abortion. The vote approving the drafting of an official statement is the first step. Fox News reports, “The new Communion document isn’t finalized yet and at least two-thirds of the bishops would have to vote to adopt the language at their next gathering slated for November.”

Predictably, Democrat lawmakers reacted with heavy condemnation, charging the bishops with “weaponization of the Eucharist” in order to target Democrats. In an official statement from nearly 60 Democrat representatives, they urged the bishops “not to move forward and deny this most holy of all sacraments, the source and the summit of the whole work of the gospel, over one issue.”

Democrats didn’t stop there. These lawmakers sought to dictate to the Catholic bishops how they should act and what doctrines they should teach and believe. “No elected officials have been threatened with being denied the Eucharist as they support and have supported policies contrary to the Church teachings,” the lawmakers said, “including supporting the death penalty, separating migrant children from their parents, denying asylum to those seeking safety in the United States, limiting assistance for the hungry and food insecure, and denying rights and dignity to immigrants.” In other words, according to these Democrats, the bishops’ failure to aline church doctrine with the Democrats’ leftist political agenda makes them hypocrites. Whatever happened to the Left’s often-voiced “separation of church and state” dogma? Evidently, that myth only flows one direction.

Unlike the other Democrats, Biden retreated behind the “it’s personal” bromide. “Joe Biden is a strong man of faith,” insisted his press secretary, Jen Psaki. “As he noted just a couple of days ago, it’s personal. He goes to church, as you know, nearly every weekend.” She added, “He doesn’t see it through a political prism and we’re not going to comment otherwise on the inner workings of the Catholic Church.” And he’ll keep attending Mass.

Political prisms? Biden is the same bad Catholic who as a candidate promised to keep attacking nuns over ObamaCare birth control mandates. That’s because, contrary to Psaki’s assertion, Democrats see everything through a political prism.

Meanwhile, Pelosi, one of the biggest offenders of Catholic teaching against abortion, was unwilling to identify whether a 15-week-old unborn baby is a human being. When pressed by a reporter, Pelosi responded, “Let me just say that I’m a big supporter of Roe v. Wade. I am a mother of five children in six years. I have some standing on this issue as to respecting a woman’s right to choose.”

The Democrats promoting abortion simply refuse to acknowledge or even consider the rights and lives of preborn children, which is exactly why these bishops voted to issue a public rebuke and warning to Catholic politicians advocating for the termination of innocent life in the womb. We certainly hope this serves as a wake-up call.

As a footnote, a new poll shows that three-quarters of professing Catholics believe that politicians who support abortion should be denied communion.

CNN’s Desperate Don Goes Race-Crazy

Don Lemon can’t seem to stop talking about Donald Trump, and about what a racist country we live in.

Douglas Andrews

CNN’s Don Lemon (pronounced lay-MOH) has some serious problems. He’s a first-class narcissist, a prime-time anchor for the worst-performing and most embarrassingly leftist cable news network around, and he can’t stop thinking about race.

Recently, he sat for an interview with The Washington Post Magazine — mostly to schlep his new book, This Is the Fire: What I Say to My Friends About Racism, but also to talk about what a horrible country the United States is for black people, and how there’s this “false reality that we’re living in a post-racial world after the election of Barack Obama.”

That whole twice-elected Obama thing was all BS, Lemon says.

If it’s BS, as he says, it’s because race pimps like him keep obsessing over race, and obsessing over the relatively rare instances of white-on-black crime and unjustified police violence against black men, while utterly ignoring the much more common occurrence of black-on-white crime and the black-on-black genocide occurring every day in our Democrat-controlled urban centers.

“We’re living in two different realities as Black and White people,” he complained to The Post’s Eric Easter last week. “We knew, as Black people, what was lurking beneath the surface. I still believe that [Trump] was the necessary wake-up for America to realize just how racist it is.”

Lemon laughably laments “five years of talking about Donald Trump for two hours a night. Growing sick and tired — as my mom and grandmom would say — of the bullsh-t and giving false equivalence to the bigotry, lies and hatred.” Of course, Donald Trump carried CNN for the past five years, and Lemon should thank him for it. No more Trump, no more hatefest, no more viewership.

Lemon then goes on to blame Trump’s America for the deaths of George Floyd and Ahmaud Arbery, and to decry the apparent lack of justice in a nation where more than 90% of murdered blacks are killed by other blacks:

We constantly see Black bodies being killed. How long are we going to have to hold Black bodies up to get justice? That is a constant struggle every single night. That is a journalistic dilemma that we have to deal with every night. How much do we show? How much should you hear? Should it be wallpaper? Does it diminish the impact of it by people becoming immune to it? We do struggle with those discussions — and we should struggle with them.

Setting aside the weirdness of the “black bodies being killed” construction, maybe CNN’s ratings would be a bit better if they struggled less with those types of discussions and struggled more with accurately reporting the news.

As for the “two different realities” Lemon speaks of, if he means one rich and privileged, and one poor and patronized, he’s probably right. He belongs in the former category, of course, living as he does in a $4.3 million home in tony Sag Harbor, New York. As Fox News Channel’s Tucker Carlson pointed out last night, “He lives in one of the whitest towns in America. In fact, 80%, Sag Harbor is just 3% African American. In the interview, Mr. Lemon said America needs to see more people like him. He regularly lectures America about diversity. What he didn’t tell The Washington Post is that in his free time he runs away from diversity.”

Lemon has a flair for both the idiotic and the melodramatic, as when he says, “I don’t know if America sees Black people and especially Black gay men as fully human, and as deserving of the American Dream.” But he also wants white America to know that he’s here for us, here to shepherd us through the racial thickets:

Whether we like, as Black people, being the teachers or helping to guide White people through racism — it’s uncomfortable sometimes, it’s tiring — unfortunately to some degree you have to do it, because otherwise they may take the wrong actions, and we want people to do it the right way. And the right way is by understanding and seeing our humanity.

What’s uncomfortable and tiring is to hear a rich, privileged, patronizing black man like Don Lemon lecture the rest of us on race. No wonder his network’s ratings are in the toilet.

SHORT CUTS

Insight: “American tyranny has come gradually, like a slowly rising river. Each of us does not realize the danger until the water comes in our door. Until then, it is merely someone else’s problem and a problem that we fool ourselves into thinking won’t reach us.” —Charley Reese (1937-2013)

For the record I: “I could make an argument that the first five months of the Biden administration have been the best of Vladimir Putin’s political life. Just from an economic standpoint, folks know that Vladimir Putin was 3-0 when it comes to pipelines. … But then Joe Biden gave him a political win. He invited the Russian dictator … to sit down with him. And, as a result of that, Vladimir Putin was on the world stage with equal billing with the leader of the free world, and he made no concessions.” —former Director of National Intelligence John Ratcliffe

For the record II: “Vladimir Putin got something that the American people haven’t gotten. He’s had four hours with Joe Biden and an ability to conduct really a physical and mental assessment, evaluation and differential diagnosis. And why that’s important … [is because] as intelligence professionals, when it comes to foreign leaders, whether it’s videos or pictures, I mean, we look at every tick, every tremor, every bobble. … Vladimir Putin … a former KGB spy, a seasoned intelligence officer, had four hours directly with Joe Biden … who we all know fell up a flight of stairs for no apparent reason twice, someone who couldn’t remember the name of his own secretary of defense, couldn’t remember the name of the Pentagon, and someone who has uttered more incomprehensible words and sentences than any American would care to admit.” —John Ratcliffe

Re: The Left: “Crime is a problem all over America. It’s going to get worse as some of it is driven by gangs and drugs, which are pouring across the border in record numbers. But it is most prominent in places where the left is in complete control. At some point the voters of these cities have to wake up. By the way, I couldn’t help but notice the irony of Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot declaring racism a ‘public health emergency.’ Not only is this the same bigoted mayor who refuses to grant interviews to white journalists, she had the audacity to declare: ‘At almost every single point in our city’s history, racism has taken a devastating toll on the health and well-being of our residents of color — especially those who are Black.’ Well, Democrats have dominated Chicago for decades. So, I guess we know who’s to blame for the city’s history of racism.” —Gary Bauer

The bottom line: “Critical race theory is bigoted, it is a lie, and it is every bit as racist as the klansmen in white sheets.” —Senator Ted Cruz

Stop digging: “It is essential as a scientist that you evolve your opinion and your recommendations based on the data as it evolves. … And that’s the reason why I say people who then criticize me about that are actually criticizing science.” —Dr. Anthony Fauci

And last… “Tony Fauci is not acting as a scientist or a doctor anymore. He’s acting as a Democratic Party activist in a white lab coat.” —Senator Tom Cotton

Physicist to Tucker Carlson: Climate Change Is ‘Fiction of the Media,’ Not an ‘Existential Threat’

False Teacher of the Day #26: Bill Johnson — Reformation Charlotte

Bill Johnson is the lead pastor of the notorious false church known as Bethel Church in Redding, California. Johnson makes number 26 in our ongoing False Teacher of the Day series. Johnson is one of the most dangerous wolves in sheep’s clothing because he is largely viewed as a gentle and kind person with a heart for people–yet, his deceptive tactics, nonetheless, deliver souls directly into the hands of Satan.

Like most false teachers, Bill Johnson is neck-deep in the charismatic movement that teaches that not only does God continue give us new revelation apart from Scripture, but that the apostolic sign gifts, such as tongues, prophecy, and healings can and must be performed by people of faith.

Bill Johnson’s heresies and false teachings are much deeper than that, however, and include serious and rampant idolatry, blasphemy, and, of course, a false gospel.

Obama Ethics Chief: Hunter Biden Art Sales Has ‘Shameful And Grifty Feeling To It’ | LifeZette

On Monday, former President Obama’s ethics chief criticized Hunter Biden for selling his art for a half a million dollars and more to anonymous buyers, saying it had a “shameful and grifty feeling to it.”

The former Office of Government Ethics director, Walter Shaub, made his comments to Fox News.

Shaub Criticizes Hunter Biden’s High Price Art

Shaub said, “The notion of a president’s son capitalizing on that relationship by selling art at obviously inflated prices and keeping the public in the dark about who’s funneling money to him has a shameful and grifty feel to it.”

Shaub also said that anonymous buyers could potentially include new ways to secretly send money to the Biden family.

“Just as hotel charges and real estate purchases created a risk of unknown parties funneling money to the Trump family for potentially unsavory purposes, Hunter Biden’s grotesquely inflated art prices create a similar risk of influence-seekers funneling money to the Biden family,” Shaub said.

Shaub: ‘This Smells Like An Attempt To Cash In On A Family Connection To The White House’

“But I also think it’s ridiculous that Hunter Biden is even going forward with this sale as a first-time artist,” Shaub added. “He can’t possibly think anyone is paying him based on the quality of the art.”

Shaub added, “This smells like an attempt to cash in on a family connection to the White House.”

“At a minimum, the president should be asking his son not to go through with this auction.”

The Political Insider reported last week, “Hunter Biden, son of President Joe Biden, is an artist – and it looks like he could be about to rake in a lot of money. The arts news outlet Artnet reported on Monday that this fall, New York City’s George Bergès Gallery will host a solo exhibition of Biden’s art.”

Biden’s $500,000 Paintings

“Getting your hands on a piece of Hunter’s art won’t come cheap,” the report continued.

It also noted,”Biden’s art dealer, George Bergès, said that price tag for the first son’s work will start at $75,000, but larger paintings could go as high as a half million dollars.”

Fauci Pal Daszak Finally Fired From Commission Investigating COVID Origins | ZeroHedge News

Authored by Steve Watson via Summit News

The scientist who funded the Wuhan Institute of Virology’s ‘gain of function’ research on coronaviruses, which many now believe to be the source of the pandemic, has finally been removed from a position of investigative authority.

As we previously reported, Peter Daszak – a noted friend and colleague of Dr. Anthony Fauci – was tapped to head up The Lancet’s UN backed commission to investigate the origins of the coronavirus that caused a global pandemic.

The British scientist was picked despite the fact that he was intimately associated with the Wuhan lab, had repeatedly dismissed the lab leak hypothesis a ‘dangerous conspiracy theory’, and created a pressure campaign via a letter published by The Lancet to force the scientific community into avoiding looking into the lab as a potential source of the outbreak.

Daszak was also the lead investigator for the World Health Organisation investigation that determined within 3 hours of visiting the Wuhan lab in February 2021 that there was no leak purely based on the word of researchers there.

Daszak was later employed as an ‘expert fact checker’ by Facebook when it was monitoring and removing ‘misinformation’ about the origins of COVID on its platform, much of which was credible scientific research. Facebook has since reversed the policy of banning any posts containing information suggesting COVID-19 was “man-made”.

It became abundantly clear that Daszak has the biggest motive to dismiss the lab leak notion, yet he kept landing roles in investigating it.

No longer it appears as The Lancet’s origins commission website lists Daszak as “recused from Commission work on the origins of the pandemic.”

At the beginning of this week, The Lancet also issued a statement saying it has invited the other scientists who signed Daszak’s original letter, several of whom are involved in the investigative commission, to “re-evaluate their competing interests.”

As we previously noted, other members of The Lancet’s task force are practically all minions of Daszak, some of whom helped him draft the letter that unequivocally stated the lab leak theory was dangerous, and others who either worked with him on ‘fact checking’ for Facebook, or were cited as sources during that activity.

The new statement also includes an expanded disclosure by Daszak in which he denies that he or his company EcoHealth received any money directly from the Chinese government.

It also states “EcoHealth Alliance’s work in China … includes the production of a small number of recombinant bat coronaviruses to analyse [sic] cell entry and other characteristics of bat coronaviruses for which only the genetic sequences are available… NIH reviewed the planned recombinant virus work and deemed it does not meet the criteria that would warrant further specific review by its Potential Pandemic Pathogen Care and Oversight (P3CO) committee.”

Essentially, Daszak is still claiming he had nothing to do with gain of function research, perhaps because it is now clear that this is the likely cause of the outbreak.

As Daszak also states, he is still currently a member of the WHO investigative team that continues to study the animal origins of the virus in tandem with China.

4 times as many US soldiers and vets died by suicide than in combat since 9/11 War on Terror – study | RT USA News

4 times as many US soldiers and vets died by suicide than in combat since 9/11 War on Terror – study

The forever wars that the US launched after 9/11 led to a surge in military suicides, a new study claims, with traumatized soldiers taking their own lives as they are repeatedly deployed in conflicts that have no public support.

A new report by Brown University’s Costs of War Project provides a new insight into what many dubbed an epidemic of suicides among the US military. Based on data from the DoD, the VA and secondary sources, the study found that at least four times as many military lives were lost to suicide than to combat in wars launched since the 9/11 terrorist attack.

Since President George W. Bush launched his global War on Terror in 2001, 7,057 service members have been killed in military operations. Over the same period, an estimated 5,116 active-duty personnel died by suicide. Between 2011 and 2020, 1,193 National Guard service members and 1,607 Reserve component service members also took their own lives. The suicide death toll among veterans of those wars was conservatively estimated at 22,261. The numbers totals 30,177 – more than four times higher than the combat deaths.

The estimated number of suicides is a minimum, the report stressed, as there was no statistical data available for Reserve and National Guard deaths prior to 2011. In addition, the statistics do not necessarily include every suicide, since in some cases attribution may be difficult. Overdose deaths, weapon misfires or single-vehicle crashes may not be conclusively linked to suicidal behavior.

Even so, the recorded suicide rates among both active-duty service members and veterans have surged and significantly surpass those in the general population, which itself has been increasing in the US, the study said.

This goes against historical trends. Active-duty personnel usually have lower suicide rates than the general public and these went even lower during wartime in every US conflict before Vietnam. More recent military suicide deaths continued to climb even after combat deaths sharply decreased after 2007.

The study says there is no single cause of the surge and outlines a number of factors that appear to drive soldiers to take their own lives. Some of those are the usual problems that members of armed conflicts face: exposure to physical and moral trauma, stress and burnout, military culture that requires soldiers to toughen up and hide what is perceived as weakness, and difficulties in adjusting to civilian life.

Other factors are specific to the kind of wars that the US has been waging over the past two decades. The wide use of improvised explosive devices against US troops has caused an increase in traumatic brain injuries and polytrauma. At the same time, advances in medical science and the sheer length of the forever wars allow soldiers to live and fight another day, even when they have to deal with chronic pain and other issues from their previous injuries. About a third of wounded soldiers go for at least one more deployment after recovering.

There is also sexual trauma that service members experience even when serving in any battlefield. Traumatic experience or threat of sexual assault affects over 23% of women in the military, the study said. That number is likely an underestimate, since a significant portion of the incidents of that nature remain unreported, partially due to threat of retaliation and the military’s proclivity to minimize them. Sexual harassment is experienced by an estimated 55% of women and 38% of men.

Another factor is that the US public is largely indifferent to the post-9/11 wars, and soldiers fighting them are well aware of this and often share the attitude. According to a 2018 poll, almost 60% of veterans did not think the US has clear strategic objectives in Afghanistan. Even more believed the war has not been a success. Another poll in 2018 showed that about 42% of American voters were either unaware of the conflicts in the Middle East or were convinced the War on Terror was over.

“As we come closer to the 20th anniversary of the September 11 attacks, we must reflect on the mental health cost of the Global War on Terror,” the report said. “The human cost for our veterans and service members far outweighs even the most crippling financial costs we have endured to send them to war.”
