Glean today in the broad field of God’s promises — Possessing the Treasure

1 Now Naomi had a kinsman of her husband, a man of great wealth, of the family of Elimelech, whose name was Boaz. 2 And Ruth the Moabitess said to Naomi, “Please let me go to the field and glean among the ears of grain after one in whose sight I may find favor.” And she said to her, “Go, my daughter.” Ruth 2:1-2 (NASB)

My wife and I just returned from a trip to the Colorado Springs, Colorado area for some vacation relaxation. She had never been in that area. I had, but it was when I was just a child back in the late 1950’s. I had driven through the area to get to ski areas and a couple of years ago to attempt to climb Mount Elbert which is further north up by Leadville. In any case, I was looking forward to some rest and relaxation and some photo opportunities. We had a good time. I got some great shots. That part of the trip was great. However, as many of you know, when I am home I spend as little time as possible watching TV and when I do it never includes the Mainstream News Media, which is nothing more than propaganda for the political left’s narrative of whatever their agenda is.

Unfortunately, there were a few instances where I got exposed to the hate filled and radical left news on NBC and ABC before I had a chance to silence it and get away from their lies. I enjoyed my trip very much and I saw the greatness of our God and His creation in the Rocky Mountains and all the other things in Colorado that go with them. Yes, I enjoyed that very much and worshipped our God as I attempted to capture the awesome beauty the best I could. However, the closer we got to the day of our return trip the more I was troubled by some of the political things going on all around us.

Even though the Left is obviously attempting to rid our society of everything that God says is “good” and it appears that things are getting worse and worse all the time with the leverage they now have with the obvious corruption within the CDC and using the Covid-19 “pandemic” in an attempt to get full control of everyone, Christians must not in any way give in to their fear mongering. Who is sovereign? Who is in control of your life from the day of your birth to the day of your death? Why then are you living in fear?

I am attempting to retire and there is an evil spirit that is continually attacking us with the lies that we will not be able to live on the retirement I will receive. My response to that is always to pray and glorify God and place it all in His hands. The day we drove back from Colorado the following devotional from Spurgeon’s Day by Day was up for August 1st. What timing!

C. H. Spurgeon

“Let me now go to the field, and glean ears of corn.”—Ruth 2:2.

OWNCAST and troubled Christian, come and glean to-day in the broad field of promise. Here are abundance of precious promises, which exactly meet thy wants. Take this one: “He will not break the bruised reed, nor quench the smoking flax.” Doth not that suit thy case? A reed, helpless, insignificant, and weak, a bruised reed, out of which no music can come; weaker than weakness itself; a reed, and that reed bruised, yet, He will not break thee; but on the contrary, will restore and strengthen thee. Thou art like the smoking flax: no light, no warmth, can come from thee; but He will not quench thee; He will blow with His sweet breath of mercy till He fans thee to a flame. Wouldst thou glean another ear? “Come unto Me all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” What soft words! Thy heart is tender, and the Master knows it, and therefore He speaketh so gently to thee. Wilt thou not obey Him, and come to Him even now? Take another ear of corn: “Fear not, thou worm Jacob, I will help thee, saith the Lord and thy Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel.” How canst thou fear with such a wonderful assurance as this? Thou mayest gather ten thousand such golden ears as these! “I have blotted out thy sins like a cloud, and like a thick cloud thy transgressions.” Or this, “Though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.” Or this, “The Spirit and the Bride say, Come, and let him that is athirst come, and whosoever will let him take the water of life freely.” Our Master’s field is very rich; behold the handfuls. See, there they lie before thee, poor timid believer! Gather them up, make them thine own, for Jesus bids thee take them. Be not afraid, only believe! Grasp these sweet promises, thresh them out by meditation and feed on them with joy.

Yes, my brethren, let us keep our eyes firmly fixed on our Lord and walk in the Spirit as we abide in Him. This world is passing away and what it offers is trash compared to what we have in Christ. I loved those Rocky Mountains, but it was God who created them and it is Him I am deeply desiring to see in person soon.

Soli Deo Gloria!
