The Bible and its Story: The Plague upon the Beasts

Pharaoh, in his first interviews with Moses, had shown only a haughty contempt, and an astonishment half amused, half resentful; but at these repeated proofs of the Israelite leader’s mysterious power, his attitude changed to one of dread, swaying between crafty falsehood and sullen obstinacy. When the plague of flies grew intolerable, he sent a second time for Moses and tried to bargain with him: the Israelties should be allowed to worship without leaving Egypt. Moses, however, insisted, as he had been commanded, on their going out three days’ journey into the wilderness. So Pharaoh yielded, “only ye shall not go very far away”; and Moses departed with a dignified reproof, “let not Pharaoh deal deceitfully any more.”

‎But Pharaoh did so. As soon as the plague of flies was removed, the royal word was broken a second time. Moses warned the monarch sternly, and the harsher plagues began. The first four had been attended by no permanent suffering or loss. Now came the blight of a disease cast upon the domestic beasts so that “all the cattle of Egypt died.” Here was a financial disaster, heavy and irreparable, and here also was the menace of death coming very close to the Egyptians themselves. “But of the cattle of the children of Israel died not one.”

He Came; He Is Coming — VCY America

This same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.

Acts 1:11

Many are celebrating our Lord’s first coming this day; let us turn our thoughts to the promise of His second coming. This is as sure as the first advent and derives a great measure of its certainty from it. He who came as a lowly man to serve will assuredly come to take the reward of His service. He who came to suffer will not be slow in coming to reign.

This is our glorious hope, for we shall share His joy. Today we are in our concealment and humiliation, even as He was while here below; but when He cometh it will be our manifestation, even as it will be His revelation. Dead saints shall live at His appearing. The slandered and despised shall shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Then shall the saints appear as kings and priests, and the days of their mourning shall be ended. The long rest and inconceivable splendor of the millennial reign will be an abundant recompense for the ages of witnessing and warring.

Oh, that the Lord would come! He is coming! He is on the road and traveling quickly. The sound of His approach should be as music to our hearts! Ring out, ye bells of hope!

December 10 – Spiritual drink — Reformed Perspective

“…all ate the same spiritual food, and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them, and that Rock was Christ.” – 1 Corinthians 10:3–4

Scripture reading: Exodus 17:1-7

If you have been to a desert, you know that you can get very thirsty in a short time. Now imagine a nation of hundreds of thousands, even millions of people, living in the Sinai desert for decades. The only way this was possible was that the Lord regularly provided them with water. At Marah, the Lord guided Moses to cast a tree into the water to make it drinkable. At Horeb at the beginning of their long journey and Meribah near the end, Moses struck the rock with his rod and water came out.

From this passage in 1 Corinthians 10, we learn that those two scenes were bookends to an ongoing reality. As Israel traveled with the pillar of cloud and fire in front of them, the “spiritual Rock” followed behind them. This is a mysterious truth. Through the Saviour and His work, they were always provided with and always within reach of life-giving water. None of the Israelites needed to be lost in the wilderness, none needed to starve and none needed to die of thirst. Every place they camped, there was water.

That scene, however, was not just about literal water. As believing Israelites went through those trials in faith, they were drinking of the living water. The Lord was supplying them with every spiritual need in Christ. What a picture of comfort this is! That the Saviour goes both before and behind His people, filling their every need! Jesus promised His people, “…whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst” (John 4:14).

Suggestion for prayer

Pray with thanksgiving for Christ our Rock! Pray that contentedness would take the place of complaining and that you would rejoice in the gift of living water

Pastor Robert VanDoodewaard currently serves the Free Reformed Church in Powassan, Ontario, Canada as a minister of the gospel.

Born into the World — Daily Devotionals by Thoughts about God

Where is my heart today: focused on the news around me or rested in the Savior of the world?

In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. (This was the first census that took place while Quirinius was governor of Syria. And everyone went to his own town to register.” Luke 2:1-3

Jesus was born into a world taken up with Caesar Augustus’ census. People were travelling to get to their own towns so they could register. Bethlehem was bustling with activity—all the inns were full—and I’m sure everyone was talking about the census. It shouldn’t surprise me that this is the time God chooses for Jesus to be born into the world. While everyone is focused on the seemingly important events of the day, Jesus, Savior of the world, is born in a manger.

There is so much demanding our attention in the world every day. Elections, climate change, economic fluctuations, war, natural disasters, personal struggles. It is into this atmosphere—this hustle and bustle—that Jesus chooses to be born into again and again. He pierces through our activity and calls us to come and adore Him … to see the wonder of His birth.

Reflect:  How can I invite Jesus into the activities of my day today?

Where is my heart today: focused on the news around me or rested in the Savior of the world?

Jesus, thank You for coming into my very own story and calling me to see You. Today I adore You and I thank You for the wonder of Your birth.

The Bible and its Story: Pharaoh’s Bitterness

After the third and fourth plagues there could no longer be any doubt as to the power of Moses, and very little doubt as to his divine authority. When the plague of lice came, Pharaoh’s magicians tried to imitate it and failed, and they confessed to him that they believed that Moses had the power of a god. In the plague of flies, Moses for the first time drew a dividing line: the flies did not come into the houses of the Israelites; they pestered only the Egyptians.

‎Strangely indeed must Pharaoh have felt his position. He, the absolute monarch who had always had his way in everything and been all powerful, who was called a god by his people, he was now told by his own learned men that there was another more powerful than he, that there was a real God acting against him, and that he must yield. Small wonder if he sulked like a spoiled child! He shut himself up in his palaces; he “hardened his heart”; the pleasure of life was gone from him. Secretly he began to scheme as to how he could grant and yet deny, let the Israelites worship, yet continue their misery, so as to revenge himself upon them.

Owatonna schools effectively prevent parents from seeing what their children are being taught
A group of Owatonna parents called the United Patriots for Accountability filed a data request (Minnesota’s version of a FOIA), seeking mentions of certain key words related to critical race theory in school district documents. Dickey told Alpha News that while his clients did receive two sets of documents related to their request, the information was “heavily redacted” and only pertained to seven of the 19 keywords the United Patriots inquired about.

Anthony Fauci Says People Need To Be Forcibly Vaccinated For The ‘Communal Good’ That ‘Supersedes Individual Choices’
In a move surprising no one, Anthony Fauci said on MSNBC yesterday “I would prefer, and we all would prefer that people would be voluntarily getting vaccinated, but if they’re not gonna do that, sometimes you’ve got to do things that are unpopular, but that clearly supersede individual choices…” And there you have it, Fauci telling you that even if Omicron doesn’t sicken anyone, and no one dies from it, you will be vaccinated for it because, well, they’re going to make you take it. This isn’t about a virus, this is about vengeance, and the soon-coming Antichrist.

Are You Ready for Nuclear War Over Ukraine?
“Do you know we don’t rule out first-use nuclear action?” So said Senator Roger Wicker (R-Miss.) while outlining what measures the U.S. could take against Russia over Ukraine, at whose border Moscow has been massing troops. The senator’s office later clarified that this comment related to American policy in general and not specifically to Russia. While this is actually believable (Wicker made a loose comment), what’s unbelievable is that we’re even considering a military confrontation with Moscow over something that does not at all involve a U.S. national interest.

Following Joe Biden’s Tuesday virtual meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in which he warned the Russian strongman of “a very real cost” should he move against Ukraine, the Associated Press reported (and kind of buried down in its story) something hugely significant: “Administration officials have suggested that the U.S. will press Ukraine to formally cede a measure of autonomy within its eastern Donbas region, which is now under de facto control by Russia-backed separatists who rose up against Kyiv in 2014.”

What is this, 1938?

Clearly, Putin wants control over Ukraine. Why? Our Mark Alexander answered that question Wednesday: “One reason is the threat that Ukraine could become a NATO country, providing a military staging ground on Russia’s western front. But more to the point would be that Putin, now 69 with some ailments, would like to see the reunification of Ukraine with Russia as his legacy.”

After the AP’s report, the White House was quick to assert that Joe “Neville” Biden was not entertaining a Sudetenland rerun. Press Secretary Jen Psaki insisted the report was “absolutely false” and that the administration’s diplomatic efforts to stave off a Russian invasion of Ukraine did not include pressuring Kyiv to cede any territory.

Yeah, and Joe Biden didn’t work out a quid pro quo with Ukraine, either.

In a contest between a lying administration and a dishonest media, who are Americans to believe?

Recall this is the same president and administration that repeatedly claimed any COVID vaccine mandate was off the table, with Psaki even suggesting a mandate would be unconstitutional mere months before Biden issued that very mandate. What changed? The Constitution certainly didn’t.

Biden clearly has no appetite for standing up to foreign adversaries — especially when the going gets tough, i.e. surrendering to the Taliban in Afghanistan. At the same time on the domestic front, he steps all over the Constitution in his efforts to exert draconian controls over the American people, threatening their livelihoods and freedom, as well as our national prosperity.

Biden kills the Keystone XL pipeline, and then turns and green-lights Russia’s Nord Stream 2 pipeline by lifting sanctions against one of Putin’s most obvious efforts to exert a stranglehold over eastern Europe’s access to energy. Policies aside, Biden’s personal history and family corruption vis-à-vis Ukraine compromises his position entirely.

Forgive us if we don’t believe Psaki’s denials regarding that Ukrainian territory. Until Biden actually shows some stones by at the very least reinstating sanctions against Nord Stream 2, no one should believe his “tough guy” rhetoric. We’re certain that neither China’s Xi Jinping nor Putin are taking Biden seriously. After he surrendered Afghanistan, why would they?

Biden Is Losing His Grip

Bad policies bring terrible results, and even many Democrats are starting to notice.

Nate Jackson

“Biden Is Losing His Grip on the Democratic Party.” That’s the headline for the latest fantastic analysis by National Review’s Charles C.W. Cooke. But Cooke could have stopped with our own title: “Biden Is Losing His Grip.”

Some of you might be asking the next obvious question: Did Biden ever have a grip? No, he didn’t. Indeed, we’ve written extensively already about Biden’s marked cognitive decline, and that’s a big reason for eroding confidence in his leadership, even if few are willing to say so.

Biden was rescued from a crowded Democrat primary field by James Clyburn in South Carolina and nominated because he was the least radical of the leading options. Yet he turned right around and governed like Bernie Sanders. As his radicalism goes up, his popularity goes down.

Cooke noticed that even Democrats are increasingly distancing themselves from their party’s dear leader. That includes rebellion on Build Back Better, the vaccine mandate, and Biden’s commie banking nominee — and that’s just this week.

“Increasingly,” says Cooke, “it is not a problem for a Democrat to oppose the president on any particular issue; it is a boon.”

Ironically, it is because Biden is such a loyal party man that his comrades are now abandoning the good ship “Let’s Go Brandon.” Biden doesn’t lead his party, he follows it. And over the last few election cycles, his party has become increasingly controlled by the radical Left. Those policies are unpopular, ergo Biden is unpopular, though most Democrats try to straddle the fence between distancing from him and stubbornly clinging to their policies.

Even NPR is sounding the alarm, and when you’ve lost NPR…

Democrats shouldn’t get away with hanging Biden out to dry.

No sooner had Democrats seized control of both ends of Pennsylvania Avenue than they set about to enact their fundamental transformation. While Biden carpet-bombed the country with executive orders, congressional Democrats passed the American Rescue Plan, which has done exactly the opposite of its Orwellian name.

You may have noticed that inflation is bad. In fact, just this morning comes the news that it got even worse in November — 6.8% on an annual basis. That’s the worst since 1982. The vast majority of Americans rightly suspect Biden is to blame, but they’re beginning to wonder if he even cares.

A big specific culprit is the American Rescue Plan. The Manhattan Institute’s Brian Riedl recently argued that the ARP is “the most damaging spending bill enacted in decades” precisely because it so badly distorted the economy. Labor markets and the supply chain were upended by the bill, all while it served to massively increase consumer demand via cash payments. Riedl says, “Washington may as well have printed $1 trillion and thrown it out of helicopters.” That’s a perfect storm for massive inflation.

Biden’s attempts to look like he’s addressing high gas prices, for example, are pathetic and counterproductive. Gas is nearly 60% more expensive than one year ago, and recently Biden called for a Federal Trade Commission investigation of oil companies for “price gouging” while he released three days’ worth of oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve. Democrats then ran out and touted two cents in savings.

In the face of the facts, Biden nevertheless insists that supply chains are great and that spending even more money on wealth transfers in Build Back Better will somehow do something the American Rescue Plan didn’t — cut costs.

The rest of Biden’s policies are no better. His aforementioned vaccine mandates are adding to the chaos, and they are rightly being rebuked by court after court. The Democrats’ war on cops and support of the Marxist pressure group Black Lives Matter has predictably yielded a terrible increase in crime. His surrender of Afghanistan not only left that country in the hands of the same Taliban we evicted 20 years ago, but it showed the rest of the world that Biden is weak. China and Russia have been quick to take advantage.

It’s a bad joke that Biden now thinks he can show leadership by hosting “The Summit for Democracy” this week. He claims he wants to stand against those who would undermine democracy with authoritarianism, while fighting corruption and promoting human rights, but he and his party are on the wrong side of those issues. He’s being criticized for inviting leaders from nation’s like Pakistan and Congo, but, again, Democrats are undermining democracy, so the guest list isn’t the real problem.

As we noted recently, some in the media think negative coverage is wrong and hurting Biden. The truth is that Biden was never the right man for the job, and confidence in him among even his own party members is perhaps beginning to reflect that.

The Stuff of a Singular Medal

There is nothing so essentially American as the Medal of Honor.

Douglas Andrews

Words work for most any purpose, but sometimes they fail us — for example, when the topic at hand is the Medal of Honor. So exceedingly rare are the men who’ve earned our nation’s highest award for military valor, and so utterly remarkable are their deeds, that they tend to defy a fitting description. Anyone who doubts this need only consider the actions of an awardee. You might start with Roy Benavidez.

For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty: This string of words forms the introduction of every Medal of Honor citation. Taken together, they set an incredibly high bar, and, more often than not, a posthumous one — especially for those in the enlisted ranks. An exact number isn’t available, but it’s estimated that 60% of all Medals have been awarded for actions that demanded the ultimate sacrifice.

Two such posthumous awards will be presented in the days ahead by President Joe Biden: one to Army Sergeant 1st Class Alwyn Cashe, who succumbed to his injuries after repeatedly rescuing fellow soldiers from a burning vehicle in 2005; and one to Sergeant 1st Class Christopher Celiz, an Army Ranger who in 2018 put himself between Taliban fighters and a U.S. helicopter that was evacuating his fellow soldiers.

In addition, Biden will award the Medal to a living recipient: Army Master Sergeant Earl Plumlee, a Special Forces soldier who almost singlehandedly fought off a complex attack by Taliban suicide bombers in Afghanistan in 2013.

Since its authorization in 1861, more than 3,400 Medals have been awarded in our nation’s history to men black, brown, and white — 1,523 of them during the Civil War, when the Medal was introduced, and far fewer ever since, as the criteria for awarding it became more demanding and the process more painstaking. Just 126 Medals, for example, were awarded for actions during World War I, and while more than 16 million Americans wore the uniform during World War II, just 472 of them merited the Medal of Honor.

As for those stringent criteria, the Congressional Medal of Honor Society spells them out:

All recommendations require thorough reports on the act itself, the battlefield and its setting; at least two sworn eyewitness statements; and any other compelling evidence that can be gathered. Recommendation packets must be approved all the way up the military command structure, ending with the United States president as the commander-in-chief.

By federal statute, recommendations for the Medal must be submitted within three years of the valorous act, and the Medal must be presented within five years. Any submissions outside of this timeline require an act of Congress to waive the time limits.

The Medal of Honor has three variations: one for the Army; one for the Navy, Marines, and Coast Guard; and one for the Air Force. These designs have been largely unaltered since their inception, and they embody those rare intersections of happenstance, heroism, and hell. The Medal’s recipients tend to think of themselves as caretakers of it, and while they may grudgingly acknowledge having earned it, they’ll never speak of having won it.

Consider the humble mindset of Navy Corpsman George Wahlen, who went from one wounded Marine to another on Iwo Jima while somehow managing to avoid being sawed in half: “In my prayer, I always asked the Lord, ‘If there’s anything at all you can do, please don’t let me let one of my buddies down.’”

During the course of your lifetime, you’re about as likely to see a man with that pale blue ribbon around his neck as you are a ghost. We see them on TV on occasion, at presidential inaugurations and State of the Union addresses, but that’s about it. Just 66 Medal of Honor recipients are still with us today, and only one of them, Hershel “Woody” Williams, who earned his Medal as a flamethrower on Iwo Jima, is a veteran of World War II.

These men, these heroes, are far fewer than one in a million. But they seem to embody a similar quality. As Nicky Bacon, a Vietnam veteran and Medal of Honor recipient, put it, “They never sought recognition, yet it came to them, often inexplicably, in settings where men all around them were being slaughtered.”

The man and the moment were of course essential, but what made these few so brave when all others around them were less so? “Pericles, the great Athenian statesman,” writes historian Victor Davis Hanson, “gives us further guidance about their valor, saying that true courage is the willingness to give up all that is dear when living is most precious.”

Pandemic Exposed the Dark Underbelly of Schools

COVID policies have driven teachers, parents, and kids to the brink and it’s getting worse.

Emmy Griffin

The COVID pandemic and consequent lockdowns have been a burden on many industries, but in the case of schools, they exposed how little those in charge care about the students.

Schools are shutting down again, though not necessarily because of COVID sickness. However, COVID policies are to blame. Teachers who were already trying to cope with the insufficiency of remote learning are burning out at a much higher rate than they otherwise would have.

Remote learning has been a disaster for everyone, most especially children. This isolation has driven them to greater anxiety. Teaching over the computer is a nightmare. It is incredibly difficult to have any form of classroom discipline under those conditions. Students cannot feel connected to one another. The blue light from screens gives a lot of them headaches. Then you add in the unreliability of the Internet and other technical challenges. When students have gone back to in-person learning, there’s been an uptick in violence and fighting. It’s a never-ending nightmare now that schools are going back to virtual learning because of staffing shortages. Schools have resorted to remote learning as a last-ditch effort to keep teachers from resigning.

Randi Weingarten, president of the American Federation of Teachers, claims the political attention teachers are getting from issues such as Critical Race Theory in the classroom, masking debates, and trying to catch students up is the real reason for the burnout. But she cannot be trusted except to exploit the situation to forward her agenda, which has always been to hold the children hostage to force the hand of the powers that be.

Some schools are choosing to solve the teacher shortage by not having school on Fridays. In Utah’s Canyons School District, for example, there will be no school on Fridays until March.

Then there are the vaccines and the policies that have been put in place to strong-arm everyone to get the jab, including children as young as five. A Los Angeles school district just terminated 496 employees that chose not to get vaccinated. What’s next? Banning children from being able to go to school if they are unvaxxed? It’s more Orwellian than that. School officials will vaccinate without parental consent and even encourage children to keep quiet about it. Let’s also mention how backwards it is to intentionally fire able and willing teachers during a teacher shortage.

Parents are furious, as they should be. Going back to remote learning or having no school at all is giving them serious flashbacks to the horrible days of lockdowns. They are scrambling to find ways to be home with their children or provide childcare if they cannot work from home. Those who are already stay-at-home parents are back to the struggle of helping their child navigate digital learning.

The real victims of this travesty, though, are the children whose education, social development, and sanity have been derailed. The pandemic and digital learning have already stunted their academics. Children are now almost two years behind where they should be in a lot of classes. Even U.S. Surgeon General Vivek Murthy corroborates this fact. In a new report, he said there has been an uptick in depression (25%) and anxiety (20%). Suicide attempts in girls have gone up by 51%, and in boys it’s up 4%. These children’s lack of community has caused them great suffering.

On a broader scale, this retrograde trend in our children’s academics has unrealized consequences for the future. Our children are the next generation of thinkers, makers, builders, and problem-solvers. Can we really call our education system competitive on the world stage when this current generation has lost so much ground on the academic front? Can we compete with China?

This teacher shortage has been a mixed blessing, though. The forced digital learning has exposed the dark underbelly of schools. It has allowed parents to see the tactics of the activist teachers and the agenda of the teachers unions to indoctrinate, alienate, and control our kids. Parents now know. They have seen firsthand the utter depravity that has infiltrated their children’s education, and they have acted accordingly.

Conservative podcaster Allie Beth Stuckey put it this way: “The truth is, our society hates children. From pervasive pedophilia in so many forms to abortion to gender experimentation to COVID policy, kids are constantly being placed on the altar of adult depravity. Only solace is a holy, just God who will one day pour out his wrath.”

She is right on the money. Our kids shouldn’t have to be the sacrificial lambs, our parents shouldn’t be forced to scramble, and our teachers shouldn’t have to be this burnt out.

Where Stands Our ‘Freedom in the 50 States’?

It shouldn’t be a surprise that red states are more free and prosperous than blue states.

Brian Mark Weber

Our Declaration of Independence says we were all created equal, but Liberty in these United States is not always equal. The Cato Institute has released its latest ranking of U.S. states according to personal and economic freedom and, as you might expect, there’s a theme of red and blue.

According to Cato, the survey looks at more than 230 metrics, including taxation, abortion, marijuana laws, state debt, health insurance, education, and others. Cato’s conception of freedom is based “on an individual rights framework,” it says. “In our view, individuals should not be forcibly prevented from ordering their lives, liberties, and property as they see fit, as long as they do not infringe on the rights of others.”

In terms of the personal freedom rankings, it’s predictable that Democrat states like Maryland, New Jersey, California, and New York rank at the bottom. Meanwhile, more conservative states sit in the top 10.

“Because of the Cato Institute’s libertarian leanings, a small portion of the index considers policies surrounding gambling, LGBTQ ideology, marijuana, and tobacco,” The Daily Wire reports. “After filtering out these categories and focusing specifically on economic freedom, however, the top five states are Florida, Tennessee, New Hampshire, South Dakota, and Idaho; the bottom states are once again New York, Hawaii, California, Oregon, and New Jersey.”

Florida is one state that’s been surging to the top of Cato’s survey in recent years. “Florida’s rise since 2009 has been nothing short of stunning,” according to Cato. “Most states have improved on freedom in that time if federalized policies are excluded; however, Florida’s post-2010 improvement has been the third greatest in the United States (after Wisconsin and Michigan).”

Moreover: “Florida’s improvement has lain almost entirely in fiscal policy, where the numbers tell a consistent story: government consumption, local taxes, state taxes, debt, and government employment have all fallen as a share of the private economy. Florida’s state leadership deserves great credit for making freedom a priority over the past decade, and it shows.”

There’s another area in which Florida now leads the nation: As of a few days ago, the Sunshine State ranks 50th when it comes to the number of new COVID cases. And, despite its high elderly population, Florida also boasts a relatively low number of COVID deaths per 100,000 residents.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) has balked at the Biden administration’s attempts to implement mask and vaccination mandates in schools and in the workplace. Other states that have largely ignored business shutdowns and mandates, including Texas, also report low numbers of coronavirus cases, whereas states with authoritarian diktats are struggling to combat the virus.

It’s no wonder that so many people are moving to states like Florida.

Not surprisingly, it’s a different story in New York. Cato’s survey notes: “New York also performs poorly across the board, ranking at or near the bottom in all three dimensions of freedom. Thus, New Yorkers feel the heavy hand of government in every area of their lives. Is it any wonder that people are fleeing the state in droves?”

In fact, recent trends indicate there’s an exodus from blue states as residents seek better economic opportunities and less regulation over their lives. Earlier this year, Forbes reported that “the top five states seeing a mass exodus are all Democrat-controlled.”

New York alone has lost nearly 1.5 million residents since 2010. All Americans should “pay attention to the collapse of New York,” cautions Liz Peek. “The willful destruction of our nation’s greatest city is not an accident; it is not an unhappy misfortune caused by COVID-19. Rather, it is the cumulative effect of progressive policies that may soon wash up on your shores, in your town, and that can undermine the neighborhood you love.”

Although there are some surprises in Cato’s survey this year, including Vermont as one of the leading states for gun rights, for the most part the investigation seems to back up the idea that America is becoming more divided between the two major parties.

But here’s the good news: More Americans are moving to states to take advantage of economic opportunities and personal liberty. If this trend continues, the blue states will no longer be able to compete.

In the end, if given the choice, people will follow the path to freedom, and Cato’s survey shows that’s exactly what’s happening.

A Guilty Gay Racial Arsonist

The Jussie Smollett trial ended with a resounding conviction, but the con man’s punishment won’t be nearly severe enough.

Douglas Andrews

Were our criminal justice system better at balancing the severity of the crime with the severity of the punishment, Jussie Smollett would be staring at a serious prison sentence. But it’s not, so he isn’t. Instead, this leftist, this narcissist, this shameless perjurer, this unrepentant racial and political arsonist will probably get probation.

Still, a conviction is a conviction. As The Wall Street Journal reports:

Actor Jussie Smollett was found guilty of lying to police when he reported being the victim of a hate crime early one morning near his apartment nearly three years ago.

A Cook County jury on Thursday found Mr. Smollett guilty of five of the six counts of felony disorderly conduct against him. Each count carries up to three years in prison, although he could also face probation based on his lack of previous felony convictions.

Mr. Smollett showed little reaction as the verdicts were read. The jury deliberated for about nine hours over two days before rendering its verdict.

Nine hours? They shouldn’t have been out for nine minutes. How long does it take to read six counts and say “Guilty” after each one? As the Journal continues: “Count six charged Mr. Smollett with falsely reporting that he was the victim of aggravated battery to an officer on Feb. 14, 2019. [The prosecutor] said he didn’t want to speculate as to why the jury had found Mr. Smollett not guilty on count six.”

If you’re just tuning in, the preposterous story that Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, Nancy Pelosi, Pete Buttigieg, Sandy Cortez, Gavin Newsom, Maxine Waters, Eric Swalwell, Cory Booker, Adam Schiff, Elizabeth Warren, and Bernie Sanders fell for hook, line, and sinker goes something like this: On January 29, 2019, two Trump-supporting, MAGA-hat-wearing thugs were out at 2 a.m. on the coldest night of the year in a trendy part of downtown Chicago, when they happened to spot a bundled-up third-rate actor from a decidedly non-Trumpy TV series emerging from a Subway restaurant down the street. So they called out to him with some racist and homophobic slurs as they approached, then they beat him up, put a noose around his neck, poured bleach on his head, and shouted that this neighborhood, which had probably gone 85-15 for Hillary Clinton over Donald Trump in 2016, was “MAGA country.”

Hey, what’s not to believe?

“What happened today to Jussie Smollett must never be tolerated in this country,” said then-candidate Biden, who would go on to abuse social media again later that year by defaming a 17-year-old kid named Kyle Rittenhouse. “We must stand up and demand that we no longer give this hate safe harbor; that homophobia and racism have no place on our streets or in our hearts. We are with you, Jussie.”

Are you still with him, Mr. President? Because we haven’t heard much from you lately.

Then-candidate Kamala Harris also weighed in, but she did Biden one better by dialing up the racial rhetoric and vouching for her friend’s character: “Jussie Smollett is one of the kindest, most gentle human beings I know,” she posted. “I’m praying for his quick recovery. This was an attempted modern day lynching. No one should have to fear for their life because of their sexuality or color of their skin. We must confront this hate.”

Well, Kamala? What say you now?

We could do this all day, but let’s take just one more: “Jussie is my friend — a very talented and beautiful human being,” said age-old race-baiting California Congresswoman Maxine Waters. “It is so hurtful that homophobic haters would dare hurt someone so loving and giving. I’m dedicated to finding the culprits and bringing them to justice. Jussie did not deserve to be harmed by anyone!”

It’s good to know that Maxine is “dedicated to finding the culprits,” those hurtful hurters who hurt Jussie. Perhaps one day, though, she’ll come to realize how foolish her friend made her look, and how much damage he did by making a mockery of hate crimes.

Ah, hate crimes. Sure, they exist, but they don’t occur nearly as often as those in Big Race would wish. In fact, the hoaxes far outweigh the real thing. Think about it: Were real hate crimes more prevalent, there’d be no need to fake them. OutKick’s Clay Travis put it in simple economic terms: “The demand for racist hate far exceeds the supply of any racist hate incidents.”

Columnist Victoria Taft has collected eight recent hoaxes here. They include the one at Providence College, the one at East Carolina University, the one at Emory, the phony “tortilla attack” in Coronado, California, and more.

What’s that? You hadn’t heard about any of these? We wonder why. If you’ve got a few days to kill, here’s a more comprehensive list of hate crime hoaxes.

After yesterday’s verdict was read, the legal team of the disgraced gay actor was mumbling something about an appeal, but that had to be bluster. No sentient being believes this guy’s story, and everyone knows he got a fair trial. Heck, if Smollett has a beef, it ought to be with his own legal team, whom he should sue for malpractice. It was those geniuses, after all, who let their idiotic client take the stand in his own defense.

In many ways, Smollett is like O.J. Simpson, but without the charisma, the acting ability, and the mad-dog murdering streak. He’s a pampered celebrity who thought the rules of decency didn’t apply to him. Maybe he can befriend The Juice and learn how to play golf. Better yet, maybe now he’ll just go away and never come back.

We can dream, can’t we?

SHORT CUTS

Insight: “There is no absolute knowledge. And those who claim it, whether they are scientists or dogmatists, open the door to tragedy. All information is imperfect. We have to treat it with humility.” —Jacob Bronowski (1908-1974)

“Since wealth is the only thing that can cure poverty, you might think that the left would be as obsessed with the creation of wealth as they are with the redistribution of wealth. But you would be wrong.” —Thomas Sowell

“China’s recent test of a nuclear-capable hypersonic missile was largely condemned, but few stopped to question exactly how China got its hands on this technology. For years, the People’s Republic of China (PRC) has sought to undermine American intellectual property by targeting our academic institutions, conducting cyber espionage, and forcing the transfer of technology. In a clear escalation of this malign behavior, the hypersonic weapon tested recently by the PRC appears to have been created in part with American technology obtained through a variety of shady business deals and technology transfer schemes. … Ensuring our sensitive information is not being transmitted to the CCP under the guise of academic advancement should be job one.” —Congressman John Katko

“A new Wall Street Journal poll contains some big news. Hispanic voters have moved significantly to the right, and are now evenly split in their support between the two parties heading into the 2022 elections. That’s great news, but here’s my concern: The GOP party establishment and its corporate wing will misread this news and argue that we need to be more open to mass immigration. That would be a huge mistake! … Contrary to the ‘conventional wisdom,’ we are seeing growing Hispanic support at the very time we are insisting on stopping illegal immigration.” —Gary Bauer

“We’re not going to surrender to those who are saying, ‘We’re going to burn down New York.’ Not my city. We’re not going to have a city where anarchists come from outside our city and go into a community such as Queens and destroy the community for their own selfish needs or desires.” —New York City Mayor-elect Eric Adams

Grand delusions: “New unemployment claims fell to their lowest level in more than 50 years. That’s not an accident — it’s a result of my economic plan.” —Joe Biden (What was a result of your economic plan was November’s cold jobs report.)

Belly laugh of the week: “I’m a good friend of Bernie’s, but we disagree. I’m not a socialist, I’m a capitalist. You should be able to make a million or a hundred million bucks if you can, but pay your fair share.” —Joe Biden

The BIG Lie: “We don’t have a crisis of lawlessness, we don’t have a crisis of crime, we don’t have a crisis of violence. It’s important that we don’t let this become mushy and bleed into the notion that there is some kind of big spike in crime. There isn’t.” —Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner

Swamp Doctor: “People should, if they invite people over their home, essentially ask and maybe require that people show evidence that they are vaccinated.” —Anthony Fauci

Non sequitur: “There is something clearly unique about a country engaging in chattel slavery that says it was founded on ideas of individual rights and liberty. And that was not Brazil. That was not Jamaica. That was not any of the islands in the Caribbean. They didn’t pretend to be a nation founded on God-given rights. We did.” —1619 Project author Nikole Hannah-Jones (“So in other words, she’s admitting that what made us unique wasn’t slavery, it was that we had founding ideals that argued in favor of slavery’s abolition. Which means we were founded in 1776 not 1619.” —Ben Shapiro)

And last… “When Democrats said in March that their $2 trillion spending bill would be ‘transformational,’ they were right. Inflation is now at a 30-year high, and consumer confidence is at a 10-year low. It’s clear that another round of reckless spending is NOT what we need.” —Senator Tim Scott

Advent, Thirty Days of Jesus: Day 14, Propitiation

The End Time

By Elizabeth Prata

Propitiation. A hard word to pronounce…and a hard word to understand, but we have to try, since the verse says this is the reason God sent His son.

that by which God is rendered propitious, i.e., by which it becomes consistent with his character and government to pardon and bless the sinner. The propitiation does not procure his love or make him loving; it only renders it consistent for him to exercise his love towards sinners. In Easton’s Illustrated Bible Dictionary. (1893)

An offering that turns away the wrath of God directed against sin. According to the NT, God has provided the offering that removes the divine wrath, for in love the Father sent the Son to be the propitiation (or atoning sacrifice) for human sin (1 John 4:10). Pocket dictionary of theological terms (1996).

The Easton’s definition uses the word ‘consistent’. God is able to do…

Key Moment in ‘Christmas With The Chosen’ That Delivers an Essential, Soul-Shaking Truth About Jesus

Filmmaker Dallas Jenkins says there are three words he’s hoping people take away from his record-breaking hit, “Christmas with The Chosen: The Messengers,” a film that continues to inspire audiences: “People must know.”

Jenkins, whose movie raked in a whopping $9 million last weekend and more than $11 million total thus far, said on “Edifi With Billy Hallowell” he is hoping to see the Gospel message reach as many people as possible.

The director and writer said the project, which gives audiences a look at Jesus’ birth through the eyes of Mary and Joseph, provides stunning imagery, illustrating the biblical narrative.

“There’s such a beautiful contrast between the raw humanity of what Jesus arrived in and how he really came in as one of us, as a crying baby to a scared teenager in the midst of a dirty pen where there were animals,” Jenkins said.

He then revealed one of the surprising moments that truly drives home the humble nature of Christ’s arrival — the inclusion of animal dung to illustrate the meek and unassuming elements of Jesus’ birth.

“I have a moment where Joseph scoops manure to make room for Mary to sit down to give birth,” he said.

Listen to Jenkins discuss this moment:

At the center of the film is a powerful message: Jesus was one of us.

“We really pound the nail of ‘Jesus was one of us,’” he said, noting how Christ’s own mother makes this point in the film. “Mary, as she’s telling the story 50 years later, one of the things she says to the person she’s talking to is, ‘We must never forget and people must know that he was one of us for a time and that this all began in such humble surroundings.’”

In many ways, “Christmas with The Chosen: The Messengers” is a return to the project’s roots, as “The Chosen” series was birthed from a Christmas special Jenkins created for his church.

Flash-forward a few years, and the resulting series is now an international phenomenon.

“It’s something we believe has a chance to be extraordinary,” he said.

‘Not Free?’ – CBO Reveals Biden’s “Build Back Better” Plan Could Cost Over $3 Trillion | ZeroHedge News

A month ago, we exposed the ‘gimmicks’ that Democrats were using to attempt to defend their narrative that this massive social-spending ‘Build Back Better’ plan was “deficit-neutral.”

Citing provisions to offset the spending, Biden has repeatedly claimed that the bill is “going to cost nothing.”

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has trotted out this argument with great confidence.

“It’s not about a dollar amount,” she told reporters.

“The dollar amount, as the president said, is zero. This bill will be paid for.”

And White House chief of staff Ron Klain also shamelessly proclaims:

“the net cost of Build Back Better is zero.”

And sympathetic journalists have picked up the mantra.

Turns out… that’s just not true!

It’s all a bunch of bullshit premised on what Manchin called “budget gimmicks… and shell games.” In fact, as CNBC’s Ylan Mui previously noted, “their strategy is to start as many new projects as possible and then build public support around them.”

And that is what The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) exposed today in a letter to Congress, titled: “Re: Budgetary Effects of Making Specified Policies in the Build Back Better Act Permanent”

This letter responds to your request for a projection of the budgetary effects, including the effects on interest costs, of a modified version of H.R. 5376, the Build Back Better Act.

You specified modifications that would make various policies permanent rather than temporary. The details are in the table below:

The Congressional Budget Office and the staff of the Joint Committee on Taxation project that a version of the bill modified as you have specified would increase the deficit by $3.0 trillion over the 2022–2031 period.

As Milton Friedman infamously noted: “there is nothing so permanent as a temporary government program.”

As Rich Lowry wrote at Politico recentlytrying to redefine the cost of a multi-trillion bill as zero must rank among the most shameless, patently absurd attempts to change reality through a talking point ever attempted. It’s mind-bending logic that would mystify Lewis Carroll at the height of his creative powers.

Well, if anything has been confirmed by the last 24 hours, it appears the American public is done believing in fairy tales and is rapidly transitioning back to the real world.

Vaccine Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (VAIDS): ‘We should anticipate seeing this immune erosion more widely’

‘If immune erosion occurs after two doses and just a few months, how can we exclude the possibility that effects of an untested “booster” will not erode more rapidly and to a greater extent?’

Lancet study comparing vaccinated and unvaccinated people in Sweden was conducted among 1.6 million individuals over nine months. It showed that protection against symptomatic COVID-19 declined with time, such that by six months, some of the more vulnerable vaccinated groups were at greater risk than their unvaccinated peers.

Doctors are calling this phenomena in the repeatedly vaccinated “immune erosion” or “acquired immune deficiency”, accounting for elevated incidence of myocarditis and other post-vaccine illnesses that either affect them more rapidly, resulting in death, or more slowly, resulting in chronic illness.

Corporate media trying to discredit VAERS reporting of covid vaccine side effects

 • Natural News – Ethan Huff

(Natural News) The plandemic purveyors have a new problem on their hands that they are trying to eliminate because it is causing many people to skip the “vaccines,” and it is known as the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS).

Bloomberg Wire put out a propaganda piece about how the Wuhan coronavirus (Covid-19) communications strategy needs “a makeover” because the data, which shows that the jabs are causing people immense harm, is driving many away from the injections.

Reports to VAERS, though minimal and highly manipulated, are skyrocketing so high that there is no longer any room for denial about the fact that covid jabs are the deadliest “vaccine” to ever be created.

The piece cites a University of Alabama epidemiologist by the name of Bertha Hidalgo who apparently has been giving people “too much information” about Fauci Flu shots, which is scaring them away from getting it.

Natural Immunity More Protective Over Time Than COVID-19 Vaccination: Study

Immunity people enjoy after recovering from COVID-19 is better than the protection bestowed from vaccination, according to a new study from Israel. Researchers analyzing data from the county’s health database from August to September found both COVID-19 infections and severe disease were higher among the vaccinated than those who recovered from the illness, also known as people with natural immunity.

Desperate Fauci: ‘We’ve Got To Supersede Personal Choices!’

 • Ron Paul Liberty Report

As Biden’s vaccine mandates continue to be smacked down by courts, as the Senate has held a bipartisan vote rejecting mandates, as even Democrats are – according to media reports – “souring” on vaccine mandates, Fauci was asked in a MSNBC interview whether it might be time to back down a bit. Not at all! – was Fauci’s response. If people won’t take the shots they must be forced to take the shots, he replied. Also today – are UK’s ICUs filled with the unvaccinated? Should we change the definition of “fully vaccinated”? Finally – how many Big Apple residents will DeBlasio put on the streets with his vax mandate?

Only 2% of Americans Cares About Climate Change But Democrats Bent on Destroying our Economy Over It — LifeZette

The democrats have never cared about making America great, better or even keeping things at status quo.

If they can’t destroy the economy, take away our freedoms or trample on the constitution, they are not happy people.

The global warming fraud was started by greedy people like Al Gore who saw it as a fantastical way to make money with climate offset money i.e. taxing everyone for emitting carbon dioxide.

Yes, we actually breathe out carbon dioxide in order to survive but I digress…

The leftists have used the global warming climate change fraud in America and other countries to try to rule over us even more than they do now.

It’s really the golden goose for politicians to enrich themselves and control every aspect of their economies.

You would think, by looking at the media push, that everyone was on board with this climate change fraud and everyone has been scared silly into agreeing with the leftists to do something about it.

But you would be wrong. The only people who care about climate change are the leftists.

In a recent Monmouth poll that shows just how much Biden sucks (and it’s a lot), it was revealed that only 2% of Americans rank climate change as a top priority.

In a sane world, that would stop the Build Back Better legislation in its tracks. Not to mention the billions of dollars of grant money and payoffs going to the democrats’ leftist green energy friends and family. It would stop all of the regulations on our energy production. It would re-start our coal plants and reinstate oil drilling everywhere in our country so we can be energy independent again.

But the democrats will continue to govern against the will of the American people. It’s what they do and it’s nothing new. It’s business as usual.

The Bible and its Story: The Plagues of Vermin

The plague of frogs was not so easily ignored by Pharaoh as had been that of blood. His magicians were able to demonstrate that they also could call up frogs from the river; but that was hardly what was wanted. The monarch desired not more frogs, but less of them. Finding that neither his wise men nor his soldiers could free him from the pest, he sent for Moses and Aaron and told them that if they could take away the frogs, he would grant their request; the Israelite’s should go out into the wilderness to do worship to their God. So, at Moses’ word, the plague disappeared.

‎Now began that strange struggle in Pharaoh’s mind between resentment and fear, between covetousness and weakness. The frogs being gone, he refused to keep his promise. At that, the third plague came. This time Aaron was bidden to use his rod; he “smote the dust of the earth, and it became lice in man, and in beast; all the dust of the land became lice throughout all the land of Egypt.” Imagine the discomfort of the people! But Pharaoh gave no sign of relenting, and the fourth plague followed. Again Moses stood by the river, and this time he called forth “a grievous swarm of flies into the house of Pharaoh, and into his servants’ houses, and into all the land of Egypt.”
